You cover the Yankees extensively and you flesh out a little bit more on what's going on with Severina. What this means. This could be terrible news. We just heard the Louis Arena exited three, have assignment with Hudson Valley in the second inning after suffering an apparent leg injury after he delivered a pitch. He couldn't put any weight on this right leg. There's video of it. And this is it would be a huge loss for the Yankees. Severina was very close to actually maybe a return on the second half of the season after getting Tommy John surgery in February of 2019. Tough, tough news. Whether you're a Yankee fan or not, You never want to see that happen with the player right now. So Marcus Stroman back to work. Sorry. Did I cut you off until 2020 wanted to correct myself and that I'd like to forget anything to do with 2022 to nothing? New York. Stroman as Scattered three hits through three innings. But now he faces Machado to teach and Hosmer here on the top of the fourth. Right on right and Machado and ready open stance, and he goes after a low offering and bounces it foul. That splitter. Yes, swing in a lifted a lion drive over the shortstop's reach and into left field First hit of the day for Manny Machado. He took a big turnaround. First they throw back toward him. It's in the dirt. Alonso hustles to get it in the first base coach's box and Machado will stay right there, but a leadoff single for the San Diego Padres. Very good piece of hitting stain right there. Manny Machado. After fouling up the splitter just waiting on that ball. Well done, just really covering. It was right in the middle of the plate, so he didn't have to cover much. He's watching it on replay. I thought it was slightly towards the lower right quadrant, but it was not. It was just dead today. Medium medium medium medium Translated Middle Middle Middle middle Thank you. Machado was aboard. And this is where San Diego gets a little dangerous. They get the leadoff runner aboard, especially this portion of the order. And here's Fernando Tattoos, junior Over one and the pitch bounces in the dirt. Nice dig out there by the catcher McCann. Struck out his first time up, took a mighty hack, but came up empty. He's batting to 75 sitting on 17 home runs. Yesterday when.

"Strikes out. looking yankee. Third base coach. Phil nevin was irate. Got thrown out either way. We go to extras tied at four top. Ten at fluey sesa during the pitching and a three to count. That's called the ball. And gary sanchez can't believe it. The yankees are frustrated. And then they would like this. Even last two onto that zander bogart's a basic both run score and the red sox winning six four completing the sweep again. It's the first time. The red sox walk into yankee stadium and leave with a sweep in a decade prior to this series. Boston lost eleven straight away games against the bombers. Moreover the red sox have now won five straight extra inning games at yankee stadium. We'll talk more about that later. Meanwhile now let's talk about this. Tomorrow is a significant day. In the development of the aaron rodgers sodden it is the first of three consecutive days of packers mandatory minicamp in his monthly column. Packers president. Mark murphy at this to say regarding the impact of the predicament. Quote the situation. We face with aaron rodgers has divided our fan base the emails and letters that i received reflect. "Marley. You were there yesterday at Citi Field. And It's great to see the fans back and it's great to see the media back and able to be on the field. Thank you. So much for your interview with Fernando Tattoos, Junior, I have to ask you What was it like to be back on the field for the first time? It's so long. I got a chance to do it in Minneapolis to the New York Yankees starting on Tuesday. But being back in New York, obviously, which is my hometown is pretty special and being just back on the field with these two great teams. It's a different experience as a reunion for so many years, the 12 pitch. Swing and he popped it up left side. This is unplayable. New baseball for Stroman. Francisco Indoor comes up to me and he goes Marley. How does it feel, and I didn't know what.

How to Motivate Your Remote Team
"I wanna start today's lesson about busting meth when it comes to motivating any team physical or remote if you're using words if you're using speeches free using praise and charm and just trying to raw your team into motivation. This the only thing you do. That's not gonna work. Those things don't hurt. People need to hear kind word. People need to feel recognize. People like to know that they're valued but words alone. Don't move the needle. And it's not sustainable. You can't continually pump up your team always especially if you're remote. This is why. I recommend these three strategies all share with you today because it has nothing to do with what you say. It actually has a lot to do with what you do. So let's jump into strategy number one and this one is quite simple. If you wanna have a motivated team motivated players. Hire them from the get-go. Here's the thing i learned in business hiring people for the last decade people. That are motivated. People have a good attitude that are self starters that don't need external forces to do what they have to do. They're just ready to go. Get it every day. That's inside them. No one gives it to them. That's a choice. they make okay. It's really hard to train that to give that to someone. So why make your life heart as a business owner fine people like that already. An higher within you won't winners higher winters. That's how you get a winning team The yankees no this the major league baseball team that won so many championships because they know they get great players on the team. Chances are they're gonna win. The same thing goes with business and this is what. I mean by motivate players. I mean people that make you feel energized. After spending some time with him if you interview somebody and at the end of the interview you feel both arctic. You feel down. You don't feel motivated. That's a bad side. A lot of people hire people like that because really all the resumes. Great the great experience. But they're on the interview and they're not motivated you think they're going to be motivated and positive and be a great influence on your team day in and day out when you hire them.

"As Marcus Stroman with the lead, and he will face 45 and six in the Padres lineup. Fernando Tattoos, Jr. Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers. Scheduled a bad here, Jake Cronin, words will get a chance of any of those three. Get on as we Begin play in the second inning. Strawman got the help of the double play ball in the top of the first after Tommy Pham single to start the game must grow up. Not so lucky after allowing the leadoff runner to reach And Jonathan VR. In the bottom half of the inning. Have the double L's game today we do we have those PRG orbit. Pilar. You'll help me keep it straight. I appreciate that. Stroman's into the wind up here is the first and the second and that one tales in for a strike right at the thighs. 91 miles an hour, Fernando Tatis Jr. Let's dive into him to 76 average 17 home runs just off the lead in the National League in that category, one swing and a miss He went after that 91 mile an hour pitch belt high, and he's in a hole nothing into and hopefully people had a chance to listen to the interview, had a chance to speak to to tease junior, particularly about playing at Citi Field or his dad. His dad has so many memories to down it away one ball two strikes, so it's very fun. And obviously Luis Rojas, the manager of the Mets, Also managed Esko Hedo in the Dominican Republic. That's the team where Francisco Totti senior West Luis Rojas suspension. Coach connections are unbelievable. We're just going to keep going six degrees of separation. No. Just one Ronald Acuna Jr leads the NL in home runs. He's at 18. Here's the pitch swing. Any bounced it foul, wasting it off to the left side count remains the same one ball two strikes. Mhm. Talking to Jay's Tingler this week. I asked him, I said, How do you manage a player with so many skills? Such talent? So I find something I can sure about him about. One thing would be maybe some more consistency, especially on the defensive end of things as he takes this one down and away two balls and two strikes to be fair to Fernando. A lot of it happened early on, and we know the consistency has also been affected by some of the injuries, particularly severe dislocation of the shoulder. I mean, it's basically a miracle that we get the pleasure to watch to continue to watch the the strainer this season. There's no doubt We talk about his injury, Machado's injury the fact that Christian was gone it and for New York to here's the 22 pitch swinging. He bounced it off. His foot count remains the same. It's really quite amazing. How these two clubs have remained either at the top of their division or in the hunt. With regard to the injuries and absences of such key players. There's a little bit of a memory of the Yankees a couple of years ago when they set the new record, which was set by the Dodgers, and they injured.

All it's peppered with statistics about minor league major league the evangeline league which was really interesting to me. Because i didn't realize our background here. How important minor league baseball was in this part of the world. One of the reasons for writing the book was to keep alive. The legacy of the crowley millers the ballpark that they played in that still here. In fact it's looking better than ever and The storied past of the evangeline which was established in one thousand nine hundred eighty four and lasted until nineteen fifty seven. There was a little time out for world war two right but just a colorful league. In fact it was known as the best literally in baseball and of course that was before there was literally it was classed d and it produced a number of major leaguers a hall of famer named how new hauser who won over two hundred games in the majors and virgil firetrucks coach nicknames. In those days he was a teammate. Of how new housing virgil trucks. One hundred and seventy seven games in the majors and then you go on edlow pat. Who was a yankee great yankee pitcher in the fifties. He came out of the evangeline. So produced a number of major league players prior to the war after the war it didn't produce as many. It was then a class sealy but in the last two years the teams became affiliated with major league teams and so several major league players came out of the league. And i write about one of the book george

"Fan like tune into what's happening but i mean i sort of grown up. I sort of stopped playing baseball like watching as much. But i'd say i wonder casual fan so in that sort of knows what's going on enough that they could talk about like stats and players and stuff like that. I feel like if you can talk specifics. You're more than a casual fan. If you talk specific that's why that's why i said standings and like if they're winning or losing where you're definitely going to a game for more of a social thing or or so. You can post it on your instagram story. Or you know you're going to the chicken bucket or yeah well no because if you know if you know the food at yankee stadium now now we might be talking as a different level. My wife leeann knows about the chicken bucket jr. okay okay. food hold on. I gotta tell you the story. So dern corey kluber is no hitter as the eighth inning or something and leeann comes to the room like the yankees pitching no hitter tonight. And she's like what does that mean that means the team doesn't have any hits and she was like so. The yankees pitchers only thrown strikes. A mike know that means he hasn't given up hit. She's like buddies. Probably throwing a lot of strikes right. Well yeah and i got it down to the dumbest possible level that i almost second guess myself i was like she was. She technically what she said. I was thinking how is it a positive of normally high of strikes. How's it possible. You've you've known me for six years you've consumed so much secondhand baseball yet. No little it's like. She has i if you like you acquitted secondhand smoking. She's secondhand chain smoking baseball at this point and she still knows nothing about the sport. It's it's amazing for sport it if you're not paying attention to it if it's just on you you have no idea what's happened is you don't know what's happening. It's like another language. But i know more about the bachelor. Then she knows about baseball. I was just going to compare that. I was just going to make this comparison and i don't watch the bachelor okay. Okay i'll go next so so bevan's for the first date that bevin and i ever went on the first first date she it was We knew each other through like Like rex sports stuff like kickball volleyball. Things you play after college and you're just trying to be social. I knew her through that. So i new shoes athletic. I date was like a joke thing. We went and we hit ground balls to each other. You've told me this story and it's funny every time. Magin that bob date. What are you gonna do bring your gear. I wasn't really dating. Hey no i was like all goes. She played softball and college. So we went and she laid out for a ball but then rate their she dove for. God yeah what. This is ridiculous. And that's the moment you know. That was literally the moment. I knew it was like this has the now we're done here but seven have more to me. She duped me athletic. She played sports. She played she's good at softball doesn't she knows the game. She knows the game cousin watching goddamn second of it doesn't watch a second of it as wait a minute. So we're not watching. You're not gonna watch any of this. You're not gonna pay attention to any of this like the to. She knows the news. You know so. The people are she. She knows game. She knows the sport like she could talk about it. See that's important knowing if you know the game if you played softball replacements to be a yankee fan. I'd like i want her to be a yankee fan. So that we can just go said it'd be much easier for for for my household to have a kid grow up in it watching the yankees all the time. Even though i'm going to chain him down to the couch. And watch the yankee games but it would be easier but if you said to bevan the yankees are pitching a no hitter. She wouldn't come back with so they've throw it a lot of strikes.

"Triple play. Where do you rank that as far as exciting plays in baseball like i feel like inside the park home. Run triple play those those two. Because they're so rare that are triple play. You don't even you don't see coming. It takes the same amount of time really as a double play. So there's not as much anticipation in it. There's not a build up for a triple play like you'd never thinking it before the before the before it happens. No joke about it. Like a triple play would be nice. Exactly you're saying jasser screwed just talking shit. Whatever it's not like. You actually think anything like that's going to happen. The ball has to be perfectly hit and it was it was perfectly it was hit the perfectly to rochelle so that he made that turn and then turn it second like you got to have some mustard on that ball to and and there was mustered on apple. I mean the the fact that They turned it beautiful. Stretch by voight. It was gorgeous. It's exciting when it happens. It's exciting ship because when you're seeing it you're not expecting everybody is fired up. I mean the the cheese grin on chapman. After that thing happened like probably the ba- i it looked like it was the best thing he's ever seen in his entire life. So yeah inside. The park home runs there but just like exciting place. I don't know man a guy. I scoring from first base on a on a double late game. Okay but because this is he gonna do it as you are. They sending him. They're sending and there's a plate the plate. Let me let me say plays at the plate up or no longer thing. Because you can't block the plate you could still. It's still thing because it's still exciting because it still. It can last exciting now. It's this guy over anymore. Having you can't pull a pete rose anymore and that's what made it extra exciting. I'd say an extra exciting. I'd say home home robberies like really good homerun robberies where the guys like in the air well over the fence robs a homerun. Maybe if it's late in the game and it's an preserves the lead inside the parkers We're talking about when the yankees fan tries to block the the robbed run. Because that's what happened today. Wait what what are you talking. Frazier went off for the ball. It was at the age it was a it was a it made it a four three game. I think that homerun did and yankee fan in the front row caught the ball. He was behind the fence. But like right there. Frazier was the. They showed the replied. The angle was great but he had a chance at it. It was other going to glance off the end of his glove. Flop out of it or he was gonna catch. It was close enough where he was. It looked like he had a chance full disclosure. The game was on the ipad. And what i was doing at that point in the game was we were trying to see. Harrison would go in the pool. He didn't there you go. Clint frazier got got Got robbed robbing home run. I thought you meant there was a ball. Gio hit the game that went off the very top of the wall and a fan almost reached over and grabbed. It pulled the jeffrey mayor. But things a pissed missile. I when taken it's domino. This was this was all high. Fly ball it. Would you know it's an out in many places and it scraped just on top of the wall and dude caught. He wasn't looking. He wasn't paying attention. He was trying to catch the ball eye on the ball. Not nothing nothing. No awareness of what's happening with the plano awareness of frazier is yankee fan. Catches definitely impedes the catch as a yankee fan close to the wall and the other teams heading. You gotta know that first of all right field especially there's a monster playing right field and if there's not there's okay. It's clint frazier this time. But still those are catchable balls. You gotta you gotta let the guy play. I almost feel they do have these signs. Do not interfere with the ball in play but instead of those signs to explain like no the situation back the fuck up when the other team is headed exactly possible that rightfielder king catch it. That's a good thing for your team. You don think about. Who's who's at bat. Okay if if the yankees are about. This is what you do. It's like it's like one of those flow charts if this is literally you're supposed to react to the play. Not think while the balls in the air to make sure you're mentally prepared for what's going to happen so that you don't have that extra that extra time to think about it. Well the fans are less apart of that the on field action than ever because of the nets all around the foul territory. So you right field. There's no excuse there no but you can't have a A bar what's his name bartman. Yeah it was not. You can't yeah. I think so bartman. Yeah that doesn't sound right cubs thousand three. Yeah i know who you're talking about. Yeah far turtleneck. can you google that bob. Do you know what you were one. You know what we're talking about now. Google bartman two thousand three cubs. See what comes up. You're not going to like this next topic's scott. Dj lemay been looking like dj lemay. Who's not been looking like. An mvp caliber player is what which is what the yankees got in two thousand nineteen in two thousand twenty. So far is hitting two sixty with a sub seven hundred pius and a one oh one. Wrc plus so. He's basically been a league average offensive player the yankees offenses not been good overall. I'm not expecting some of these guys to if you're if you're going into a a game and you've got tyler wade in there and brett gardner cuyahoga yoga and mike ford. Like those guys are aren't going to be hitting digital. Who needs to start playing better. He needs to start hitting more. That's what they paid him to do. Start being dj lament. Who again and that. We haven't.

COVID Mask Guidelines From CDC Just Eased Up
"States across the US air lifting coronavirus mask mandates following new guidance from the CDC. A major turning point I can breathe again. I think that's fantastic. I think that's what everyone was waiting to hear the CDC saying fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors. In most places. I feel like a sense of freedom right now. I've already planned a mask burning party. So President Biden entering his Rose Garden briefing mask list, the White House confirming vaccinated staffers are no longer required to wear them A great milestone. Great day. Has been made possible. The extraordinary success we've had in vaccinated so many Americans so quickly on Capitol Hill. Some senators mid vote when the news came down, gleefully taking off their masks. But there are exceptions, the CDC saying fully vaccinated people should still wear masks in hospitals on Busses, trains, planes and if required by a state county employer or business in California. L. A County officials will not immediately follow the relaxed rules in Massachusetts. The mask mandate is staying in place for now. And there are still questions about what this means for places like schools, one of the nation's largest teachers unions planning to follow the guidance if everyone is vaccinated. In a classroom, Ben. It sounds like Everybody in that classroom could go massless, but you have to make sure everybody's vaccinated and you also have to make sure everybody's comfortable with it. The union representing retailing grocery store workers, saying in a statement it's confusing and fails to consider how it will impact essential workers who face frequent exposure to individuals who are not vaccinated and refused to wear masks. Kroger, the nation's second largest grocery chain, will continue to require everyone in their stores to wear a mask. Indoor mass mandates should go At some point, but not right away. We should just wait a little longer for more people to get vaccinated, also raising concerns news of a so called breakthrough outbreak among the New York Yankees at least eight fully vaccinated members, including Star shortstop Glaber Torrez testing
Cole Strikes out 12 in Eight Innings, Yankees Beat Rays 1-0
"Gerrit Cole is five and one after striking out twelve while holding the race to four hits over eight stellar innings of the Yankees won nothing victory Aaron Hicks hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Aaron judge had three of New York six hits call already has five starts this season with at least ten strikeouts and no walks breaking might be seen as T. mark set in two thousand one he's given up just three walks all season there will be a walk on at some point but just try to stay on the offensive there and we'll put ourselves in a good position to not have to have to have to be there quite as much Aroldis Chapman completed a four hitter for his ninth save the Yankees over consecutive wins over Tampa Bay for the first time since July two thousand nineteen I'm Dave Ferrie
Local Governments Promoting Incentives to Encourage Covid Vaccinations
"According to the centers for disease control just a bit more than forty six percent of the entire. us population. that's everybody has gotten at least one dose of covid vaccine thirty five percent is fully vaccinated but things are slowing down. Millions of people are still hesitant and herd. Immunity is for now maybe not looking so great so local governments are partnering with businesses to offer free stuff in exchange for getting a shot incentives matter that we know but do they work. Marketplace's kristen schwab has more on that. The mission to get more vaccines into people's arms is starting to take on a bit of an oprah. winfrey vibe. west. Virginia is giving one hundred dollars savings bonds to adults under thirty. Five main is offering free hunting and fishing licenses and in new orleans a pound of crawfish. Incentives are nice. Because they're the bronx near leading people toward something in a positive way. Knoll brewer researches vaccination behavior at the university of north carolina. He says incentives appeal to people across party. Lines and studies show. They increase vaccine uptake by about eight percent. If the incentive is of value mario macho is a behavioral economist at johns hopkins. There are costs and benefits to any any action and a person engages in the action if her perceived benefits exceed her received. The costs costs can be literal like to and from a vaccination site. New jersey is running a shot and a beer program macho says this can make a needle in the arm. Seem fun ause you. They might go without with a friend or a group of friends and get vaccinated together and then go out and get their free beer and incentives. Like new york's free tickets to a mets or yankees game. Also whisper freedom like. Hey remember when we high five strangers after home runs without fear gretchen chapman who studies vaccine behavior at carnegie mellon says incentives usually work on people who only need a little push and researchers. Don't know if they'll work for the covid vaccine like to have for others

That an appearance on saturday night live would give us something to talk about. Yeah it's definitely unusual. Snl typically taps entertainers to host the show. There are a handful of business people who have done so in the past including the late george steinbrenner who on the new york yankees for president. Donald trump hosted twice Including in two thousand fifteen when he was vying to be the republican nominee for the white house. We don't know at this point. Exactly how the hosting gig came together but elon. Musk has a super wide audience. This was the first time that snl expanded viewership and had live streaming internationally. And so you know. He certainly brought a lot of attention to the show.
Stanton Lifts Yanks to 2nd Straight Walk-off Over Nats, 3-2
"Giancarlo Stanton delivered a walk off single in the ninth inning to give the Yankees a three two win over the nationals leaving the bomber seventy two on their nine game homestand as big time I mean I love those moments and hi I had one earlier in the game that I did and they capitalize on so not too often you get to opportunities in the same game but you definitely better get the second one Brad hand walk Tyler Wade and pinch hitter Erin judge before Stanton lined a slider to left for his twenty fourth RBI and the Yankees fifth hit of the afternoon one of those five hits was Gleyber Torres a sixth inning Homer that put New York ahead to nothing Kyle Schwarber tied it with a two run blast on to Mingo Herrmann's final pitch I'm the ferry

"yankees" Discussed on The Bronx Pinstripes Show - Yankees MLB Podcast
"The runs the yankees have scored. Is it gonna be twenty eight or more. So i'll go first this time that's four. That's four per game right seven games. My math is twenty eight. yeah. I'm smashing the over again. Peer parents you're confident smashing that over smashing you over. We're going to camden yards. You kidding me. If we don't score that if we don't score forty runs is gonna be a disappointment. Okay i will. I will take the under on this. Just because i'm not super confident and i wanna be. I wanna be different so we can have some severe actor. You want to be wrong. Glad you did that. I don't know why you're like. What has this offense shown you that you're there. You're confident they're going to score consistent. They've started to hit home runs and they're going to camden yards. That's it okay. Keep him loser up. I'm not confident in my pick. I just don't think you should be as confident in your pick. Don't tell me don't don't don't talk to me about my confidence level ta it's high very high is going to say the average of the The score the runs per game yet the answer averaging around three and a half franz per game so far that's been less than twenty eight. Yeah they've been terrible so it's a matter of if if the offense will kick continue to pick up or we're not i mean testimonials ditching. The the they'll probably have a game or two in baltimore where they score like like a ton of runs but then also not so sure. They're not going to have a game where they score one. Run over to see what happens. We will see what happens so the next one is who do you think will record. Moorehead's heads this week. Aaron judge or dj. lemay who. I said this last week and you. You just pooh-poohed me. Scott digital may not look good. He's not looking good. He's rolling over on ball to the shortstop and the third bass hitting soft ground balls. He doesn't look good okay. So what's your answer. I will say that aaron judge will have more hits this week than digital see is great for me. He needs to snap out of it. But i haven't seen anything for him to snap out of it so far this year. Judge is hitting to sixty six. Dj's to fifty nine and dj's hits a lot of dribblers in the infield that have gone for hits for him okay digital about all that dj lemay. Here's the right answer is the correct answer. Give one reason why because these ulama who was the The the batting champion. That's why we're playing. Let me remind you again. Replay the tigers accurately judge murders. The orioles you're right he does. He's he's going to have more. Rbi's probably probably driving more run. The production will be there for sure. R. j. will be a run scored. Are you at least admitting that. Dj has not look good. Yeah i think it's an early slump for digital lemay. You not worried about it at all. Like at all not even a little tiny tiny even a little bit and i think aaron judge is yes absolutely. We'll we'll feast. But i think this is going to be a going to be a team. Feast in camden yards. Nice so last. One is cool. Record more strikeouts debbie garcia. Who is starting tomorrow against the os or corey kluber. Who is expected to take them out onto that. This is so i on this one. I'm i'm taking davey davey garcia. Because i don't think kluber is getting a lot of strikeouts at all. He's just not. He's not he's not looking like he's a. He's missing many bats. He's not confusing. guys. It's david garcia because know. I think he's going to be fired up. They haven't really him. I don't know if these got into starting israel's or not it's been a minute garcia. I think it's a probably by two or three. Here's the only thing with garcia. Like are they gonna actually let him start or is he opening. Yeah that's the only difference if screwed if obviously he's not throwing you know four to five innings if if he's on the level playing field here and he's able to start a game like a normal pitcher then then yes he's going to have more strikeouts garcia's the right answer but i also would not be shocked if garcia is a one time through the order opener. It's just tough for me to see that against the baltimore. Orioles man like if they do that shit. It's it's pretty ridicules. He is he is not you stretch out. Yeah he's ready. He's ago he's thrown like eighty pitches. Okay that stretch out to me. That's not that's not an opener. That's not a guy that you're gonna you're gonna go out and and waste for an inning or two. That's not what that is the guy that they need to start. I hope so. But you know them and their chicanery with these with these bullpen opener situations. It's like every time you think we haven't figured out they do something sissel. What are you picking picking. I already said on picking every arsia. But i wouldn't be surprised if there's an opener situation with garcia and that that could negate although he could still pitch could still pitch one inning strikeout three and kluber ends up with two strikeouts. The food's not missing bats right now. Yes. that's true all right all right. Let's let's do mailbags. Bob take it away again again. I'm splitting them up with you. Man i i see the amount of text that's happening in these in these mailbags. I appreciate that from everybody. Who's listening. i'm not gonna. I'm not gonna leave you on an island like this though. I'm going to help you out. Yeah i mean. I also disabled my series this week so there shouldn't be any problem going to my ear. I'll read the first one. That was from from sean. He said hope you hope you guys are doing well. Outside of the gong show. That is the new york yankees. I came to a re revelation recently and it is the yankees business model seems to revolve around being consistently good but never really great. Even in the years with where they've made the postseason they almost always run into a team. Who either has a better lineup. Pitching staff or both. The defense i've heard from fans is that the yankees are trying to win multiple championships championships. Instead of just one with some fans that defend the yankees for this process don't understand is that it is. It only works if you have a constant park three or minor league system that prevents you from having to extend players like his who throughout his career has has no better.

"Oh yeah yeah. Glacier gary frazier show and then frazier or clint. Or if gardner's playing yeah gartner can also be a great night hitter like you said you. Just said gardner would be a great night's hitter. I just want you to notice that you said that you know a great nine hitter. He's a great night hundred. What are you talking about. I don't get is he. Is he a great nine hundred or is that a little too much as that or is that a little too much. A great nine hundred ninety a good hitter. I didn't say outstanding. i'd say great is more outstanding great outstanding outstanding. Just be like a moment of fleeting moment. The why did people should all his twitter. Because i called because you had to call it out. It was a thing. That's why you insensitive prick the second time calling you. Sob all right. Let's get mailbag questions. Bob you ready to read out loud. Yeah so the first one is from evan. Wrap this one is for dr scott. I just saw frazier in the dugout drinking of red bull general thoughts okay. I love it. Because i think a guy like frazier will lock in with a red bull. It's not even the energy it's more of like the concentration you get you get like some people i do when i drink caffeine or red bull it my i can see the ball better. I could see things better. I can concentrate harder. And i feel like that's a good thing for a guy like Clint frazier it's just a matter of not hitting too many. You think him drinking red bull has anything to do does him. Drinking red bull have to do with his. When was the red bulls scene was he. He's been i think he drinks red bull even when he's when he's not playing just to just to just do it. He's probably been drinking red bull since he's been playing yak since he's been playing in like middle school red bulls a good thing a good thing for sure so the next one is from daniel. No last name kinda like mclovin and super bad far more generic yes. There could be a lot of daniels. he says. Call this early season overreaction. I counter that. There's a two plus seasons sample size. That supports it yes. The yankees pitching hasn't been great but at least on paper. The offense should be good enough to score five plus runs on a regular basis. When when is it time to start to move on from some of these boomer bust three true outcome guys including stanton gary voight hex river and bring in some guys who ceilings aren't as high but would give you more consistent contact at the plate and consi- consistency in the field. I feel like two or three. Three more of these guys will help bring success because we are too heavy the other way we. This is a mailbag of topic of conversation that we've had practically every single show for the last two years. We can't keep beating it. I think everybody here is on the same page. We get it. This is not the ideal way to to construct lineup. You can't just have. I mean against some some will say some nerds. Obviously someone did say that. This is the way to do it. But we're also watching the people that are the teams that are winning the world series. The teams that you know you look past the last four or five years of contact. Lot of contact. Lot of baserunners lockerbie home runs too but a lot of baserunners included it. Because i wanted to ask you guys this question if the yankees flame out in the playoffs for the exact same reasons in twenty twenty one that they didn't twenty nineteen eighteen seventeen because they are incapable of hitting in key situations and the yankees afterwards in their post season. Press conference brian. Cashman aaron boone. Sit there and tell us how close we are. do you think event. Like what is the breaking point for them saying okay. This isn't working. It's now a five-year sample. I think it's all about where the contracts are right now to be honest. I think it's i think that's it's not a problem for when you have talented guys. But it's part of the problem because they can't move too many guys unless there's a just a big trade you could you could it but it would not be an easy you really have to. You'd really have to move a significant guy. And i just think it's easy to do to to get the value back in what you're trying to get. It's hard to do that now. I mean think thinking about the contracts that they have that are immovable. Non movable yeah in movable contracts state stands. Well then you get into the no you start getting into these guys. That are either guys like judge. Who's a yankee for possibly ever. Who knows but but again not also which is also not part of the problem. He's not the boomer sky. Judge is a guy that is. I know that but you don't have again. But he's not part of the problem. Don't have to keep sanchez. sandra contract labourers us. Andrew geos not central. You could change the but again you'd have to make sure that you got back exactly the type of guy that's going to change this and that's going to be hard. That's hard to do fine. That is hard to do. But but i don't agree with you in saying that they have a bunch of immovable. Guys only have a movable guys if they don't think there are a problem but if they think they're a problem they wanna get rid of them pretty much the entire positions. You're not gonna get a guy. Upstanding and hicks and i guess now lemay hugh because of his six again not part of the problem. You wanna trade with a guy like glacier. You're just going to get the return for the value of a player like labor because his ceiling is so high. And it's a that's a tough. It's a tough guy to move because you better damn well not miss on that trade. You better damn well not miss on that trade for a guy that's controlled and this young and all those things are true for a number of people. I think the opportunities could have been in life. You'll this year could have been a michael branly. It could have been that that could have changed the dynamic. I think of this lineup. a bit. it could've it could've been that way but again when you're looking at the way that this lineup is constructed rousers constructed with the salary cap in instilled here because it is in the name of a luxury tax. They didn't want to do that. And clint frazier. Being part of the whole solution because he's on this roster as well one of the guys that can make. You can make a difference in this lineup. he's not as boomer bust..

"Do i think that's how were you not expecting this. Of course this is going to be my first question. I mean i'll have to go with i. I like scotts. I do like scotts. Outside of the broad nick nelson. I like the optimism with judge. One hundred forty games fifty home runs. Mvp above that. Clint frazier big. Fan of clint frazier. I'm just swag got swag. I'd love to see him. Have a good season and german. I saw that one resonating in the in in bob. Turns is when i was saying to to win this question jer. Montgomery i'm optimistic for him as well. I'd love to see him. Have a really good season and yankees going. Seventeen in two orioles. I expect that. I don't know how bold it is because i think they should go seventeen into against the orioles orioles. Just go nineteen zero sugar. They should they should exactly what happened two years ago. Yeah i do. I do like scott set of right all right well. We also got some listener. Submissions to at inc podcast. Twitter wants to go through some of the good ones not the not the bad ones the ones that you deem to be bold enough to read on the podcast top for scott. React to the fight. Get into the top three. I'm going to say my one bold prediction. Which of course. I i think gary sanchez is gonna be the home. Run leader i. I'm i'm really pulling for gary comeback season. I'm i'm all over the the gary comeback train. I think he's gonna hit thirty eight home runs. I'm i am taking into account the fact that i don't think judge stanton gonna go this season without him. The i l. for a significant amount of time Obviously i don't hope that happens. I hope judge hits fifty home runs. I hope.

"It's very difficult to actually quantify that in a number. It doesn't really. It doesn't really add up to a quantifiable stat. You're talking about the eventually got you to say he's going to be behind the five best relievers in the bullpen. Before i get to my my my overall yankees team prediction. It's not an overall season team prediction. But it has to do with the team as a whole. I'm going to go back into the starting rotation and throw number out at you. And i know that this number doesn't matter and baseball as much but i'm gonna tell you why it matters to me. I got jordan. Montgomery winning fifteen games On the the new york yankees. And the reason i have in winning fifteen games is because when i'm looking up and down that rotation i see a lot of uncertainty behind gary cole and i i'd say go on a limb and say that jordan montgomery is probably the least of the uncertain when you're going through through those guys and that he's probably got the highest percentage chance to get through five innings. And when you're talking about the win. Statistic i actually think it's becoming more not including garrett cole what's that you're not include i'll take your across the other guys but fifteen wins is to an impressive feat because what that means is that you're out there for five innings eligible for a win and i don't think that's being taken into consideration as much when people are pooh-poohing and shitting all over the wind stat. Yes the yankees have to score runs. That has nothing to do with what the pitcher is doing. But that pitcher has to be out there for five innings and be able to give them the ability to score those runs. And also. Now i think jordan montgomery is such a crucial piece to the way that the the whole pitching staff lines up towards the end of the season for a lot of the things that you said. You mentioned that you don't think that the the you is going to struggle and i think in order for that not to happen. They have to have a like jordan. Montgomery going out there and throwing consistently five innings plus. Because if they don't if they don't have a guy like jordan montgomery doing that. Who else is going to do it. I don't see anybody else who really is going to be. That guy was going to go out there and consistently throw. Let's call it six innings. Corey kluber very. Well may not be that guy. You can't depend on that guy. Herman maybe her mind we've seen before you know. He gets that five inning mark he becomes a different guy. So he's got a show that to me. Jordan montgomerie has the repertoire. The amount of pitches to to really eat some innings. And i think he's going to have a much better year than i think. A lot of people are expecting. And i see him as emerging as as dependable guy in there Behind garrett cole. And i think that he's because of that. And because he's going to eat some innings and the score a local runs the residual effect. Fifteen wins fifteen. Wins is the new twenty wins. Because even i just looked at jordan montgomery and his twenty seventeen season in which he was second in was his second rookie of the year or is the second best rookie pitcher that you're right behind a former. He only won nine games and he. He was fantastic for most of the year. Kneeling stone didn't even win double digits. So it's really hard to get wind. So i guess yeah. That is pretty bold pitchers now. It's like you have a great season and you went eleven games. So everything's auto with the wind. But i think a lot of that comes down to his well when you're being pulled from the game and and the fact is that guys are getting a quicker hook now and that's how you get in any trouble though when you have to have patience with a couple of these guys in the middle and jordan. Montgomery i hope it jordan montgomerie has to be one of those guys because i just don't i don't see them doing it with own. No expert action. Cooper if cooper becomes If they see him as a as a guy that's that's that is seemingly healthy. Maybe they will write him a little bit more. Because there's really not that much to lose. But again i think they're going to try to protect him and have him at his best towards the end of the year which again puts now montgomery. Who's far enough away from that. Tommy john surgery where he's really getting back into that into that window. Where you see guys have Sustained sustained success. And really get back to you. Know having the same action on their On their pitches and from what we saw last year and early in spring. I like what i i like. The i like the velocity like the the action on his breaking stuff. I think he's poised for a good year my next predictions also about the rotation and it was spawned because of how they lined up for six games where they're going to go. Garrett cole corey kluber herman montgomery and then go back to garrett cole and five days s and then use tie. I think they are planning on. Managing tatyana includes workloads especially in the first couple months of the season that we talked about tehran's in a couple of weeks back and how he said. Well we didn't put a number on it but he also did mention one hundred and thirty innings as like a target. But if it's more he you know he's not putting a number on it but then he did put a number on it sort of thing so i don't see the yankees leaning heavily on either of those starting pitchers i think their plan is limited. Both of their workloads throughout the season so they can be healthy in september and october. At least that's their plan. That's how they hope it goes. So my prediction is that w garcia is actually gonna start more games than jameson. -ton corey kluber. Debbie garcia will make twenty four starts. Tawil make twenty three starts and corey. Kluber will make seventeen starts. I think mainly kluber will be lowest. Because he will spend some time on the injured list and i think photon it's going to be. They're going to be heavily managing his workload. He's going to get a lot of skip. Start throughout the season. I could see that. I definitely could. I think i think we talked about this. At one point and the way that i had in my head was that tions going to be more of an innings and pitch count per start guy that they're gonna keep an eye on rather than the actual starts because you know when you start skipping starts with a guy like that who's coming back with new mechanics like now you're playing with different different sets of risks. I think by adjusting the days off and All of those things getting out of a rhythm. But i could see on a on a given start like there's a. There's a limit. There's like a a very very hard pitch limit per start. I think that's a little miniature. More wouldn't be surprised if they skip to start here and there. But i think they are already kind of planning on skipping his. I know three days but then lighten how it lines up is. He's not gonna make another start for another seven days so just getting into the season thing. I think you're looking too much into that. But maybe you're wrong in the sense that they're going to manage those two guys for sure right so they hope that kohl's rock that like you said montgomerie takes a huge step forward and can be in every every five days type guy..

"Home. Run guy and let me tell you why last year when you look back at his numbers and i will use two thousand twenty as part of my argument here because it does help my case and also it was a a transition year for him. It was a development. So i feel like that's part of you could use if it's a short series and it's a guy whose developing like taking that next up you kind of have to look at it a little bit more. I guess for trends but not necessarily total impact. But when i'm looking at what he did last year and I was surprised by his on. Base percentage was was one that that really got me. And i'm really struggling to pull this frigging move to go. See richard rodriguez. Thank you very much Here we go the twenty twenty season. His on base percentage three ninety four. You're you're looking at a a guy who has drastically improved. I think the approach at the plate. We saw him going the other way a lot more. I mean you're you're talking about a guy who has an on. Base percentage very close to aaron hicks is doing clip. Frazier's a just you see the amount of walks he had. You could tell that. His his approach at the plate was very much different. It was tweaked in a way where he was not looking to pull the ball all the time. I don't know how many how many in two thousand eighteen when he came or nineteen when he came up and we saw glimpses of him. How many foul balls look like. They were gonna kill back kid because he's trying to pull a ball. That's you know. That was his approach the entire time that lightning quick bats that that's all we saw was the ball and foul. He's he's more patient. He's more mature. He's taking a better approach. The plate and i think he's going to because of that he's gonna see the ball fly over the wall a lot more and it's not just going to be the left field we're gonna see centerfield. We're gonna see right field. He's really taking that judge approach where he's going to spray the ball. I think lemay who's been good Influence on him. So i got. I got clint frazier. Thirty home runs. I think that is going to be a direct correlation of his plate discipline and the the pictures that he's swinging at because of his walk percentage i think is going to continue to increase and looking back at his on base percentage. I was really impressed. I didn't realize as high as it was too. That's very impressive. Especially because he had to sixty seven batting average should have a three ninety four. Ob is very impressive. I don't know if that sustainable for him because he's more of an aggressive type hitter but if he can be three sixty i mean. that's fantastic. Give i put the over under three sixty this year. Are you taking the over the under on that. I'm taking over. Because i think he's just a more disciplined player in general. I think he's he's really owning that zone. He understands where his strengths are and where his week. This is our. I think at this point or at least he's very much learning that and i think an owning it and not trying to be that Overly aggressive like you said overly cocky guy that has all the confidence in the world that he can do things but understanding that there are situations where he has to play to his strengths. More and not let the pitcher dictate what's going to happen. I think that was happening a little too much early on and again it's just i think maturity and discipline is a big piece of this and it's just a player coming into his own. I also made a clint frazier. Predictably dial and i could tell by the look on his face. I also made a clint frazier prediction. And it's not that different from yours. So i feel kind of kind of annoyed with you. i said. Clint frazier will lead the yankees in games played with one hundred and fifty five and he will hit twenty five home runs. That was my prediction. the reason name was twenty. Five home runs. You know what's that. Dj lemay who. It's twenty five home runs. The reason i said he will lead the yankees in games played is because i think there's going to be injuries to aaron hicks and to aaron judge so even if brett gardner is playing over one hundred games which will probably happy and clint frazier will still get significant playing time. And he's the youngest guy in the outfield and he's the healthiest guy in the outfield. Knock on wood. I don't know about thirty home runs. I think he's he's still probably more of a line drive hitter and if the ball is truly a little bit deduced we might not see thirty. Plus but really. What's the difference between twenty five and thirty over the course of one hundred sixty two games are in this case. One hundred fifty five game by. Thanks but it really. That's not that different for for for production. It's five home runs over. The course of six months to psychological barrier thirty home runs as much better than twenty five home runs. I guess so but at the same time thirty home runs was kind of desensitized to thirty home. Runs so i think if he hits twenty five or thirty home runs but the rest of the league is also mashing home runs because the ball still juice not that impressive but if the home run leaders on the yankees are forty four giancarlo stanton and he hits twenty five or thirty home runs. That's that's much more impressive type of type season from him. So i mean. I think we're a prediction from us. Well a it is different in the sense that i'm very surprised that you think he's going to lead the team in games played because of the way the outfielder so muddied up right now with the amount of guys that are out there. I understand. you're basing that on injury which is sick too sick sick pessimistic way to approach that but the fact that the fact that is out there the fact that mike talk men's on the roster jay. Bruce can play right field if needed. Stanton complain the outfield. There's a lot of guys that can play out there. So i'm just having any outfielder as the guy leading that charge to me is a is is is interesting and coming from you more interested in. It's more even more interesting. I i look at a guy like digital may as a no-brainer to to lead the team in games played because he can play multiple positions. He could play first base understanding jay. Bruce is there now no novoye. He could slide over to third base. He can play multiple positions and he's just like every day he's that guy that can go out there so dj limit. He was my second choice for leading games play. But that's not that bold. These are bold prediction. Scott are predictions there. It's a little like okay. okay. I think it's a little but do you think about that. One did you think would. Would you think that carry any weight. I didn't i mean. I think it's fair to take into account the injuries i think i think i think it's fair and i always have numbers for my predictions. Okay i'm i'm either putting a name to my prediction or a number two my prediction. I'm not predicting that. Nick nelson is going to take a step forward this year. I'm sorry but when you're talking about the bullpen..

"Has made the roster. I mean everybody that was going to happen as much as people didn't want that to happen. Everybody knew that was going to happen. Because but i will. There has been some We got a real five back over here now holder who also play shortstop who's known for his glove former believers a first round. Pick back in like he was. He was one of those. Those early picks that the yankees made on the infield that that had gloves but never really panned out on the offensive side which is exactly what they have. Three guys Ceo culverts another one. Who did that. It was over holder and weighed all three. All three guys could play defense. Offense was never there. And i think that's that's where you if you look back at the way that they've drafted shortstops. You see a pattern there but a guy that can that can play the field well and you know maybe he can handle the bat a little bit better than wade. It could be an option down the road For those guys commando though again it would have to be. I think it's a situation where you know. The time just runs up on tyler wade and there's a guy that does similar things in and that's what happened so who knows. It's kind of a long shot but yeah it was interesting. It was of note for sure. Yeah and dietrich. All accepted his option. Down to Alternate site and also robinson street us. They resigned him and he'll be added to the alternate site as he's rehabbing and his initially was a six week timetable so that kind of puts him sometime in late. April i believe and they just needed needed the catching depth as insurance. I think so. We thought torino's was never not going to be an option anymore because of the issue but turns out. We might see him at some point this year. And it's a good thing to have a major league catcher back there. I mean he probably just didn't want to understand rehab And get everything back right and play again. But so that's why he accepted that or the option. And he's he he he understands that this first month or two or go to be crucial for the yankees and the catching position. So having that that major league veteran catcher sitting in aaa is a good thing for us for sure. Yeah because if if it does come situation where. Gary sanchez loses his job. I don't know how he's going to be as backup catcher. They might need to figure something else there. Well that's the other thing just having death in the backup catching position. I mean who knows anything could happen with hickey. As well having a guy like that does provide good depth and and they were very thin without. I mean there are still very thin until he's healthy but it's a good option to have anything else from spring training final thoughts before we move onto bold predictions and finally get to the regular season feels like spring training. Took six years the the pictures of the guys flying back over new york at night seeing the lights and i think geo posted on his instagram. It's it's just a it's just one of those check marks. You know what i'm saying like it's cool to see that it's called the city lights with these guys flying over you know with the With them coming back to the bronx. It's a longtime common so glad glad that that that is happening. And that we'll we'll see some fans in the stands. Tomorrow's gonna be a fun day garrett cole. First time. he's pitching in front of yankees fans first time. It's going to be great. I guess return real real for real so he can as he as he said. The other ones were dry humps. It's great quarter. That's a lot of dry helping the Can we confirm if there were pods on that plane. We got that tweet from someone like they tweeted a picture of of the of the giant plane. It's like come on. Can we get twenty six pods for these guys. It's it's a three and a half hour flight. North just customize betcha gives some get some get some pods in there. Let's let's learn from our mistakes. I'll never forget picture. You've giants on your. You have literally a number of them now. there's more share from. I believe it was the two thousand nineteen season of aroldis chapman sleeping on the plane and he had his feet like crammed up against the seat in front of him. Like all the chapin. The dude six five whatever unlike. How is this a professional baseball team. That's how soft tissue hamstring injuries by being cramped up on a plane for four five three hours. Whatever it is getting up trying to walk it off and just doing something a little different walking down those stairs crisp you know Two am air. It's it's it's a. It's an opportunity for soft tissue injury waiting to happen every single time. I hate it. You've heard us talking about it.

"Can can Louis a man michael king bia swingman but if their plan is still for five innings out of your four out of your bullpen. I don't know if that's gonna hold up of a season. It has never held up for house. Smells can hold up with one. Less bullpen are so. I think there's definitely some opportunities on the car racer that they're gonna fill. I i think that there. I don't think that they see the bullpen as a major place that they have to improve. I think i don't think it's a major recess. I think he'd take us up. I think he's been a much better than any fan in ever will give him credit for. I think that they They also i think nick nelson showed pretty well last year and i could see him taking another step up i. I think that they are going to look at him and give him an opportunity. The wiser they've really got to figure out whether it's you know him limiting the two two innings the him going one inning. I think that that's exactly what they should do. One inning guy. Perfect three pitches. Maybe just two pitches and go out there and dominate and then mingle hormones. Another guy. Potentially where you could see him coming out of the bullpen. So i want you to. I want to before we wrap up. our Was really focused on the kluber news for this episode i wanna do one mailbag question and it kind of talks about what we're doing right now with the rotation and the bullpen is from andrew sharrock from fairfax virginia. Set by. You know these got he says. Hey guy i thank god. Dj l. m. is going back to the bronx longtime listener. First-time mail bagger. I was reading an article on the athletic about d h two point. Oh the double hook jayson stark dubbed it. The rule would attach the spot in your lineup with your starting pitcher so a team would lose the d. h. When they take out their starting pitcher my two twofold question for you is one. Do you think this would be good for baseball. And fix some of the concerns over pitcher use and to do you think this will change would benefit or hurt the yankees. I think this would bring a ton of excitement to the game and bring back the importance of the starting pitcher and keep teams like tampa from using an opener. Three times per rotation. This is a rule that nfl teams would love. Alexxa would hate. But i think it would strike a compromise to see the d. h. In both leagues as well as maybe see a pitcher consistently pitched three times through. The order is for the yankees. Actually think this rule would be terrible at the moment. They're the only starter we have that we can trust pitch fast past the fifth inning is garrett cole all i can see with this rule are four to five days where stanley gets up bats because the soft tissue injuries are too great of a concern to play him in the field and guys like clark schmidt michael king are not going to give seven innings consistently in twenty twenty one. So i think is great ruled for baseball but terrible short term for the yankees. I think he nailed it. As far as it's good for the yankees. But i would actually a really intrigued by this rule this is a good little deviation from from what we've been thinking about here by How to fix baseball. Yeah this is interesting. So who did this jayson. Stark jayson stark lucia by him. To be honest. I don't know but you have a h. To start the game but as soon as you're starting pitcher comes out of the game you lose the designated hitter so your options are have the pitcher hit or do double switches for the rest of the game. Which is what they would end up doing. But it's still a deterrent from taking your starting pitcher out a double switch for the rest of the game it's You lose the. Oh yeah it is so you. You have to remember time. The pitcher comes up. You would have to double switch. Yeah that's super interesting I don't i don't hate it. The first is the first time i've heard it and i kinda like it. To be honest it does give you the the designated hitter in both leagues. I could see the national league people being okay with this because it's it's you know giving them an element of Still making those changes theoretically. We don't have to look at pitchers hit. We didn't want to write. There's an option here and there is bringing a lot more strategy into the playoffs and taking guys out. Just can't do it. You know at the drop of a hat like everybody does now. So i actually really liked this a lot and i do agree that it's shitty for the yankees because the way that their roster is stacked out right now on the pitching side on the rotation side specifically it's not good not good No sacrifice that in the short term to get this rule into baseball. I don't think they can do it immediately. Because i think this changes the way a roster is put together so i think this would be something that would be another one of these tests in the minor leagues if minor leagues are a thing anymore and then and then you know implement a year or two down the line. Because you definitely have to make adjustments for something like this you could change the complexion of roster could. Yeah another way instead of instead of just getting more starting pitchers that go deeper into games. You could just say we're going to have benched players that can hit more so we're basically going to pinch hit every time the pitcher comes up and still clint freight air In wwe for the tyler. Wade yeah yeah. There's opportunities there you'll have guys stole that your bench players will maybe not be as defensive. Maybe not as many defensive prowess guys out there because they're gonna hit once again. Rob center bill to get back in the league. This might be his opportunity here. He could do both great. He's loving this. So i i like it it's intriguing. It is of the newest baseball little tweaks that we've heard over the past couple years. I feel like this is by far the best. Because i haven't immediately shut on it or been been offended by it or like hated it. It feels like baseball. It does feel like baseball. It feels like a like a natural type of move that is blending rate now. Managers are like. Oh he's at eighty five pitches in the third time through. The order is coming up. Pull no questions asked but this would add some doubt to that decision. Yeah no i like it. I liked that wrinkle. I like the fact that they would have to think about that twice. And not just because there's a a brick wall at you know. Seventy five pitches. Eighty pitches whatever it is or x amount of times through the rotation earth through the lineup..

"Is i. Don't see anybody on the on the market. Not named trevor bauer. That's gonna come in and alleviate those concerns that's where we know there were probably guys so i think a mistake was not going harder after landslide overtures that would fit in. We agree with the luxury tax. He was making ten million dollars. This year you just don't pay corey. Kluber his eleven million. And you get lance lynn. I'd much rather have that and give up prospects. Yeah so you're trying to win a world series. I i agree with you. I thought was a perfect fit for this roster. He's a perfect fit. He's adorable. I we know what he is. He smells like hotdogs. It's a good deal for the new york yankees. That that kind of guy you can rely upon. That's a hawse. Give me that guy. He doesn't have to be the number one. You know one of the best pitchers in baseball which he was showing last year but he can do years in a row. He was showing. He can show that. He's you know a good pitcher a two three guide. That's that's what you would need him to be in this in this rotation and he fits that beautifully and if you get more than that great and that's a guy who showed it recently so yes. I do agree with that. I think that's that's one of the miss on on their end. Although you could argue that cashman did identify that talent correctly the first time and then and then screw it up. And then he wasn't sticking to his guns with it. I guess who got fooled andrzej happen the hell knows. That's i can't go back down that that path but there's nobody else today. Taiwan walker is not gonna make me feel better no but also the padres traded for joe musco flake yesterday trademark and. I'm talking with the free agency. Market the trademark shakey's heavy. Why aren't the yankees more active on the trade market. Maybe maybe to your point that maybe cashman is a little gun shy in that and they're just identifying these situations and i don't know talent they don't agree with what was given from us growth that they didn't want to go to that level or they don't have. I don't know what the reasons are. It's clearly there are attached. I'm sure cashman's having conversations with gm's that are making these guys available and for whatever reason whether it's a deal it's not as good or they don't believe in the player they're not there so you got to believe that that they're this castio. Rumor mill has some some legs to it. Right there smoke. There's usually fire so there were conversation. Come back around. it could come back. I until the playoffs are so far away but we sit here today. It's not even february and we know the yankees don't have enough pitching. Maybe that'll change between now tober but if it doesn't change between now and october we're going to be sitting here seven months from now talking about the same shit. The same thing that bit keeps biting this team in the ass year after year. Why do they keep getting bounced from the playoffs. Because they can't make contact enough and because they don't have any starting pitching your after year after year. Do you see an opportunity. Here where the yankees identify the fact that they can't stay under the tax threshold and then make a move. Or because let's say that let's say for instance if they if they were to trade. Clint frazier for A louis castio or another player. Like louis castio right now. You have avoid in left field. You can do one of two things you can stay under the luxury tax gogi brett gardner and have him platoon out there again. With whoever talk men and you know enter player here you can. You can do that right. Your offense will still probably be good. Your defense will be a be fine with with garner or you. You could go after you know a couple of guys that are still on the mark. There's george springer still out there Your boy branly still out there who would fit that beautifully and this team beautifully. So there's there's opportunities still to go over the tax threshold to make the team better. Do you think they're willing to do that. No because i think that's what if they were willing to do it they wouldn't have signed. Dj lemay who to six years part of kluber deal with the eleven million is making me think that maybe maybe for the right opportunity that they would cause they're why do you even bother signing. Dj mayhew to six years. That's not a smart. If you don't care about going over the luxury tax now you do not want to have to pay him. Fifteen million dollars in two thousand. And i told you this is a matter for four years or six years you just. He doesn't have to play if he's not good at that point. Like who cares. You're still paying. You're just eating fifteen million dollars on your luxury tax in two thousand and twenty five. I still believe that the the deal is spread over six years. But that's not based on the total amount less. I if if dj said no. I'm not doing six years. The deal would probably be pretty damn close to four or five years. Same amount of money. I don't think the money would have changed too much very involved with the way that it's spread out very very conspicuous that his deal lines up so they were able to add corey kluber and still be just under the luxury tax. This you cannot tell me. This is not premeditated. No i look. I think that's that's a very huge possibility. My thing my other side playing devil's advocate to look at another opportunity here because that's what we're doing is saying publicly the don't want to handcuff themselves that much by signing corey kluber a guy who just came off of a shoulder. Injury hasn't pitched in two years and is gonna be thirty six years old. Hopefully they didn't just handcuff themselves. Because of that role of the dice with an old man so back in two thousand seventeen the yankees did not want to pull the trigger on justin verlander. Because one of the reasons was because they didn't want to take on his salary and they wanted to eventually reset their luxury tax. I don't know if they will be that gun shy again this year. If there's a move where they could add just money and get a really quality player to add to a world series run. However i don't expect them between now and the start of the regular season to add payroll to what they currently have. I think they're going to try and subtract payroll okay. that's possible. I mean. I think it seems like they. They made their to moves and A barring trade which doesn't add payroll in my opinion the way that the the the type of player they're gonna go after is not really going to add payroll in fact it might reduce it depending on who. You're getting rid of right not a lot but some of the arbitration numbers mean if you got rid of frazier. He only makes two point. One million dollars voice could be a trade kennedy. He makes four point seven million dollars. Yup so i mean you're looking at those guys. As probably the ones that that i would i would circle or shell said gio a shallow but i would much rather trade lou voight the jewish shell at this point. I don't think your shell has much trade value to be honest. But he's a good player on your team but it's not like a big not be trade. I don't think that value actually trials void for or neither voight or shall have good trade value void a little bit more but but yet the Especially if there's a d. h. i generally don't have good trade value. That said there's just a lot of money to be shed so not there. What are you gonna do eat half of atom out of the nose contract. Wouldn't you rather just see if he can turn into another equality reliever again like because they also need bullpen help. It's not like this team is stacked in the bullpen anymore. They'd kind of have gotten thinned out in the bullpen. A little bit. Chapman's a year older britons a year older chad greens. A your older. They lost time kaley they have. They lost jonathan holder. Some may say by subtraction. I do think you're talking about johnny lasagna. How can you be bridge guy. Johnny lasagna be a swing..
"yankees" Discussed on The Bronx Pinstripes Show - Yankees MLB Podcast
"And that's what i want to talk about for for the remainder of the episode is that what do the yankees have. What do what are they capable of pulling off understanding their goal of staying under the luxury tax with before spring training or before the season starts. So we're talking about the full salary. Yeah who knows what they're going to be going to do. Midseason that's going to the season and how it's progressing and along the season is all that kind of stuff is is going to factor into midseason acquisitions. I'm talking about now as we sit here. It's january nineteenth. Spring training is supposed to start mid february and then the season is supposed to start april. First what can they realistically do in that time to improve this team even more because this team as it stands right now is not good enough to win a world series. The team at the beginning of last year at this time was better than the team this year. Well it was better on paper. It was so what we're talking about. All we do is on paper but james paxton was a guy that we were looking at his getting excited about potential because he got injured but the the on paper. There are different things so on paper. Yes when we see the names. We're like okay. We can get excited about that. That's that's a better team because that is what it is on paper but when you're looking at what the yankees have right now. It's just they haven't been in this type of position because there's a lot of what ifs but also they're not injury. What if there are those two but there are young guy. What if on the pitching side and we just haven't been in that situation in a while we're counting on you know a good amount of young guys to to to come out and pitch and i think that that's a better unknown then. Then the injury side of things grated. Injuries can happen to anybody but the ability to be a number three guy. We haven't seen anything from him As far as the potential we've seen him flash that's to me is a A more optimistic upside a more optimistic uncertainty then Going into the season with you know a guy. That's like corey kluber. Who we've seen it before. But if he can pitch for long enough time for even get close to that. The last time the yankees went into a season with this many question marks as far as young guys go in a rotation was two thousand and eight when they went into a rotation with a young phil hughes a young java chamberlain and a young in kennedy and that didn't work out too. Well not saying this is going to be a repeat of two thousand eight. Our hope not because they didn't make the playoffs in two thousand eight but you cannot just. You can't even assume one of them is going to pan out. Well i think jordan. Montgomery is is if we're talking about him and lumpy him into that category he's loving him in. I'm not saying you're good with jeff. Montgomery as as a guy that we depend on. Yes a two years out from tommy john. I'm confident that jordan. Montgomery can give you a very very solid season and you can rely on him to be a very steady three four in the rotation. He's not going to be a number two though right. Yeah i mean sure. That's fine okay. So then were looking at the back right now and Garcia schmidt are the two young question marks. And i think schmidt is even more of a question mark in garcia just because he's not really pitched in the major leagues based on skills. What do you know you mean based on skills. I mean coming up and what we've seen of him. So far david garcia. You know there are people that are would say that. You know durability is a concern for him sure. But i saw i saw with my own eyes. Pitch good major league starts. I saw that. Yes we haven't seen clark do that yet right so it was really doesn't vacuum m- be good. But yes until. Clark schmidt pitches on a major league mound a good start. That's a that's a huge unknown. Sure okay at least every garcia can take a a handful of of regular season starts last year into next year as building blocks. Clark schmidt is starting from from the ground floor trying to work up. Debbie garcia's a couple of steps ahead of him. I don't mind that because if he's just not that good Then you know we have time to figure it out especially with young guy and we know he's got good stuff we know. Aircraft was just gushing over the two of them both of them being major league. Ready gushing gushing. Gotta love erik kratz. But i'm not so sure. I could trust his opinion because i just feel like he's i love everybody kinda guy and no matter what. He's going to have a nice thing. He's going to have positive things to say about everyone. He meets cortra- bet has has risen the ranks. He's overcome the injury. He's proved that he's healthy. It does feel like this is the year for him to take the step like now's the time he's done. He's done what they needed him to do in the minor leagues. He's proven that he can come back healthy and and be that you know stable guy in a rotation. He just needs it. Now do it on the the major league level. And there's a skill level thing there and i think the yankees believed that he has the ability the skill level for his pitching those numbers to translate into the major leagues. And maybe he gets off to a rocky start. But if we're looking at a guy like that who's staying healthy running the course getting out up throwing six innings. I'm fine with being patient with him. If we're going to be patient with corey kluber on an innings from an innings perspective. We should be. We should be patient from a youth's perspective with With clarkson david garcia. Here's they're gonna be bumps but we yeah did definitely patients eighteen months and they're no longer rookies. You let them go through garcia's not a rookie. Whatever to close amuse next year but yeah you let them go through their growing pains. Sure that's fine. Because i think you can still win regular season games with that. My concern again. Goes back to the playoffs because i don't care about the regular season anymore but the concern because you haven't seen it that's it that's it it's just 'cause you haven't seen it from those guys. That's it yeah. It's not the fact that we want a young guy to be good and we want a young guy to take next level and we want a young guy to have the opportunity to take it and now they have it. Here we go. Let's go do i do. I work the because we haven't seen it. But do we want to be impatient for for maturity to happen and for them to actually figure things out and go through the motions there or do we have to like some through four innings. Five innings of corey kluber three runs. Because that's what we're going to see which is worse all day long. I'll take the young guy. I'm fine with having a couple young guys that you roll the dice with and see what you can get on the upside. But when you don't have steady guys other than one pitcher garrett cole that's a huge concern everyone else is a roll. The dice they have four. Roll the dice pitchers in their starting rotation of five..

"Were really excited about launching. This is our intro show. So in the show. We're gonna introduce ourselves sort of who we are. How we got involved with the site. Were both huge yankee fans as. I'm sure everyone listening is so just sorta talk about what what we do what we wanna do at the show and take it from there so scott you started the website bronx pinstripes dot com about four years ago. joins us talk a little bit. About how you started that and why you started that. Yeah for sure. So i'm first of all. I'm glad we could finally do this. We've been talking about it for a while and getting the podcast off the show off the ground so He's going to be fun. Talking yankee baseball pretty much all year as far as the the website itself i i started the site where we say four years ago when when it was actually ny universe right If you were actually the first person to come on and right so you're You're employee number two. If you will do anything for that. I get like yeah. I'll give you a high five next time. We go to a game options or anything like that. I'll buy you a beer. I will buy you a beer. The next game all right. I'll take to celebrate that but yeah so we started out as a universe and then i got a very nice polite letter from a major league baseball in the new york yankees saying that they didn't like our name that it was a little too close to a couple of their Their their trademark. So we changed it to bronx pinstripes and I think for the better. I mean bronx. Pinstripes is a kinda fell in love with the with the name and the website has really progressed. Since i mean started originally was for when i was away because i left the new york area to school and it was a way for me to really keep up with the team Not being around the local media and just just you know an another opportunity for me to keep up with the team as much as possible. I mean an absolute szeswith yankees love yankee baseball. I grew up in North jersey and Bergen county about twenty twenty five minutes from the stadium. So i used to go to games. Thomas kid and yeah just Ever since ever. Since i was a child man been been completely Entrenched into yankees. I think we share that I grew up in rhode island and actually right now. I live in boston. And i know you know that but So you can imagine how difficult that is Being such a diehard yankee fan living in boston with all those mass whole red sox fans who sort of gimme shit. All the time in the last year wasn't bad because they sucked but the year before when they that world series was just brutal. But i sort of started after college. I was As i'm sure most people are just bored at work i wanted to talk about baseball rather than excel spreadsheets and stuff. So i started a tumbler in a twitter account. I think goes like may actually spring training twenty eleven and i saw your site and i saw you were looking for writers. I just shot you an email and sort of just evolved from there and it's funny. You mentioned the new york yankees university forgot. We were once called that yup and moons ago. Yeah many terrible graphics home. God but i think like you said it's good now. Bronx pinstripes dot com. it's more. It sounds more like a fan driven thing which we are rather than an actual affiliate affiliated site but the mlb sticklers for their for their property. yeah i mean absolutely they they They definitely protect it with everything and you know. That's that's their right to do that. So we we just tried to Minor ps and qs. And and do everything the right way as much as we possibly can. So yeah we definitely respect the fact that they have their trademarks and and that they owned us. You know we move forward as best we can. I think we've Bronx pinstripes evolved from that. And i think it's actually Yeah like you said man. It's a really good thing. I think the name suits us a lot better. Yes and so again. Just what we're gonna do here in this episode Get into what what we're going to do with the show. It's going to be a weekly show Different topics each week. Talk about what happened. You know how the yankees did over that last week breakdown. Some prospects breakdown you know some managerial decisions. I'm sure girardi will do. Some stupid shit will will get on them for and take it from there. So another thing we're going to do. We're going to have guests come on. you know. we have a bunch of writers on the site. It's not just the two of us and we all have different personalities So we want to get those guys on and talk about their opinions about the team in about baseball and You know everyone doesn't different. You know You know one of our guys rich on site. He's a huge fan. So i'm i'm sure that'll be fun when we have him on. ryan's a really big in a fantasy baseball and he watches every game. I think he watches every major league game. If that's possible. So he's unreal Brian he likes to talk about some of the historic stuff Current stuff so it should be really fun show. We got going on here. Yeah definitely. I'm really excited to bring a lot of those guys onto and like you said everybody brings their own little element to to the yankees and to the phantom if you will and And to the show for sure We have some guys that only people from the site that we're going to bring on but we're definitely going to be looking to bring on other people to talk baseball. Guys who are very much in tune with the minor league systems I know dan pfeiffer one of our guys does some stuff with trenton. And we're going to have him on to talk about a lot of our prospects And then you know. Maybe we'll get crazy. Invites a mother opposing fan fan sites onto to get a little bit of little bit of a back and forth. Yes that'd be awesome. I don't know however go but that'd be awesome. Maybe i can get stoned. My buddies up here in boston at come on us at sox fans yeah i would love to talk and have a lot of things to say to them so Another thing i wanna to do sort of get to know us is Talk about what are walkup. Music would be for baseball. Whether you walk up to the plate or enter you know from the from the bullpen. Like mariana. or something like that and we're going to do this with all the guys that come on the show you know. Just get into their brain a little bit about Personnel what type of music. So scott put you on the spot. What would your walk up. music bay. like i've never thought about my walkup music right. So i probably do one of two things and and maybe mixed in you know throughout the season if i were if i were the starting shortstop for the new york yankees but why starting shortstops. That's true that's true. I can feel the bar about hitting maybe a recent mendoza line but highly doubt it The two things that would be. I i have to i have to that..

"So it's what we're saying the fiber of being a new york sports fan it just in until the yankees win a championship again. There's going to be something that they can be doing better. And even when they win. Then i will. I will continue to point that out. I'm glad keeps that as mice on all akita out of purgatory At least do is my promise to the listeners. It it's been my mom fulfilled for five. Hundred episodes in is what i will continue to fulfil for the next five hundred. If we do reach thousand you think we're going to reach thousand. Yeah why not. Why not okay. It depends how many planes we got in front of us. That's true and now they playoffs are expanded afghans. Lot of play all right so we're going to be playing that episode to take you out again. I just want to reiterate. Thank you guys so much for for listening. Five hundred episodes strong. Let's get another five hundred scott anything else. You wanna stay. Just a little teaser. Coming up to This is going to be an interesting. I'm i'm really excited for this conversation. I'm actually having later. Forgot your day. Yeah i'm talking with Tenor swanson who is in charge of the yankees catching situation. So he's he's the the the guy who's leading the charge for for all of yankees catchers so we're going to have a really good conversation. Obviously he's the one who is a very big believer in the in the one knee down. I'm to talk to them all about that. Get his perspective. I'm very curious to hear how he started on this this method and you know how he teaches at how transitions have happened. So i love the mechanics and the nuts and bolts Talking about the development of players and things like that so. I'm super excited for this conversation. We'll release that you. You're going to drill. You're going to draw them on the gary sanchez. It's definitely gonna ask him. There's no doubt about it. I'm i'm going to ask him about it because it's it's certainly top of mind. There's no doubt so. I wasn't shy to. I told him. I wanted to talk about the situation there. So he's So we're gonna have a good conversation. That will be out thursday thursday morning. That'll be out today. Today's wednesday. That'll be out thursday. Yeah so again. Thanks guys everything. "Not if you're new to the show or if you have a review for some reason cleaver review in the apple app store The pakistani we'd appreciate it. But if you look through that you could that that sentiment is. I think shared i came across. Yea definitely your and it had to take time and we appreciate everyone. Who's maybe stuck through us in those first couple of episodes. That were a little rough. And i think you're right because the of the first episode we talked about the yankees and what our expectations were for the two thousand fifteen season and it became more natural right. Well that's the thing man when you start talking about the you know the topic of passion because that's what it was it was it is. This is a topic that we both know very well. It's just ingrained in our brain no matter what and and it's a when you start talking about something that you're passionate about something you're knowledgeable about it. Just conversations happen more frequently more more easily and there's a couple of funny things i know so at the eleven minute mark. You've for the first time. State your hatred of alex rodriguez. I'm glad we got that out of the way in the beginning in less to be fair hatred a strong word. You hated him at that time. Hatreds because he didn't have the erotics yet yes he was a piece of shit. Two thousand fifteen was era since pre two thousand fifteen all we knew he got so got busted again cherokee easy storms in he. Storms into mike. Francesa wasn't jokes. He the shining moment of the beginning of your friend. Sassa to to be honest. Do you lost a lot of that. Was bullshit interview. That's actually point. I don't really know friend sesa enough to say when he is decline really started. But i would say it's run. Then when did he retire. Friend sounds like he's reverse sides to your a year and a half ago. Two years ago doesn't matter. I thought it was like more like two thousand seventeen but anyway and then less than a minute after you state. Your hatred for era is the first ref snyder reference and profess my love for for rough cider. Because stephen drew was on the team which. I'm sure if you listen to those first thirty. Forty episodes scott find a way to mention rob ross center at least three times every episode. Yeah until we got him on the on the horn. And i had my one on one with rob. Was that late twentieth. Fifteen or sixteen remember. It was when it was and it was Look the whole point of rough snyder at that. At that time were stephen girard that his name was not stephen. Drew was complete trash. Absolute trashy was a trojan horse for the red sox. He was a piece of shit. I hated him and rob rough center. Was the number one yankee prospect of that time was you know though you wasn't the number one in all of our hearts and is and he was mashed the only guy who was majorly mashing well theoretically mash in in aaa classic for a player yeah very classic for a player unfortunately and then at the fifteen minute mark is the first time that i kind of should on brett gardner and i feel like that's been a tradition the last couple of years we're talking about how brett gardner was the face of the franchise back in two thousand fifteen and that was a big problem we also say couldn't steal a base so some things never change the oven mitt know why can't they can fast steel a base guy let's go it's amazing it's amazing how how reserve he's been over. His career was stealing basis with the speed. That he has really is i. The memories came back as i was listening to the episode of us recording it again february eleventh we recorded i think two or three episodes that day. I can picture myself in my bedroom of my boston. Apartment recording that episode and i was twenty six years old at the time. I don't know if you remember that day. Recording it was we had planned it. We had planned it like the couple months leading up to it. And i was nervous as hell. You hear my voice. I was nervous as hell. You should have been like dude you you sound nervous. Go get a beer. We're gonna resell now. It's on me now. You're blaming so this is where we've got. You're the guy who had fifty podcasts. Under his belt because you had already done a pot navy. I was thinking that it wouldn't get better until we just got reps. You needed the reps. That's it there's no other there's no way to fake it. You just need reps. It sure we were talking while you need of sure as we were talking before it were. I was natural and finestone when i press recourse. You told me you weren't recording. Because i think that's how we're doing it at first. I don't think we were doing our local audio. Where i don't know we must have because i live know what we i think we've been using quarter from from almost a jump. I was just i was just. I can't say enough. I was so bad and i apologize for what you're about to hear but it really has come. It's been a long road since two thousand five hundred episodes. Thank you so much to everyone who out there is listening. If you've listened to every episode like standing ovation for you thank you. I know some people found us at different points. Some people have found us over the last couple of years. As we started doing more episodes it would not be. We would not be sitting here. Recording are five hundred episode. If people weren't listening. I mean that goes without saying because if you're just putting it out into the ether and no one's listening and there's no way you reach five hundred and the other thing is is that we've one thing it's really important for us is that we've taken a lot of the the relationships that we've had online and and now we've taken them offline we've taken them to in real life when with the with the game experience so a lot of people that listen to the show with met. We've met a lot of a lot of fans at the games and become very friendly with them You know many many people so that it's been so cool in that sense because this this has been a community from from really the beginning and it's you know we've taken it You know offline and there's been a tremendous amount of people who are involved with that now too so it's up. It's been really cool. She spent a lot of fun. And i really really really really really hope that we can get back to these In in real life things actually watch a game because that to me talking every week Yankees baseball with you as fun..

"The last. two years have been better than any organization at extending championship windows. They took the mid. They took the ninety dynasty through two thousand twelve. That's unheard no and the reload to brian cashman's credit. Although many people will not give him credit for anything pitching related but the the reload that he did in two thousand sixteen was impressive. And i thought gutsy because it was not the not. The yankee thing to do is not something that was. There was really much of a precedent for but he did he do on the pitching front though he owned he has away. The reliever is saying there's a lot of people that shit on him pitching which is doing. That's fair yeah. I think very fair here. We are here. We are in two thousand two hundred twenty two thousand twenty one off season. We're talking about the yankees have won starting in. You know we're about to talk about the fact of potentially going going out and trading for sunny freaking gray. That's what we're about to talk about. No so so lindsay. Add the wrote that in the athletic it about reunions with yankees previous yankee. Starters you mentioned jay hap- lance lynn. Who now we know is what the white sox we she mentioned gray. And i forget the other what James paxton the sunny great thing. Bloomington ockers in the in the mix of of these conversations. Were talking about the yankees. not even. there's there's there's talk that the yankees aren't even interested in extending him so or bring in. That's what andy martino reported in. S n y although. We've seen caspian do this before lurk in the darkness. not no. He's in he's in ninja in the offseason cashman's indonesia you like to hear honesty from him. I like to hear nothing. Or or i like the mystery. Because he's playing a game it's he he strategic when he's honest because he last offseason was very honest they were in on garrett cole right. You almost can't be honest. you can't get i about that. No i know but when it's when it's when it's on the obvious and it's in your face. Yeah he's going to be like okay. Fine yes so but when but he what. Brian cashman has behind. Him is the yankees engine. Which which can spend more money than anyone even more money than the dodgers even though the dodgers have outspent them in recent years so what he can do when he's in on garrett cole he can scare off some some some teams so he can tactically say. Yeah we're going. We're going in big donald trump. When he but other guys tanaka or james paxton or maybe a trade for lance lynn. All these other when he knows he's going to have tons of competition and he knows that he doesn't want to drive the price up because he's not willing to go over the top for these guys. He lurks darkness. He's like bane he lives. He was born in doctors. There's a bunch of There's a bunch of scenarios we could look at the other side of that two. Gm's or you know. He's he's playing chess. And i like it so it's it's good. I think good things. I don't want my gym to be completely honest with me to be to be to be honest. But if if these this reporting is right and the yankees are not looking to add to their starting rotation. They're in deep doo doo for twenty twenty one. Yeah we're doing the same thing we did. Unless unless the kids come up and and And completely shine and george. Montgomery returns the form which. I do believe that he can. I think he's gonna be. I next year is the year that We're we're looking at jordan. Montgomery as as as you know being a solid number. Three number. Four pitcher i. That's that's where i think he's ceiling is and i think that that's the and that's great but that's not going to win you a championship. It certainly can help you need that. You absolutely need that. You need a guy like that. During mccomb has got the ability to go deeper in games. I think he's he's he's a very good fit for the rotation so i think that they believe that he will be fully healthy and akkad point. Here's here's what. Lindsey wrote in the athletic in her article about the yankees. Bring back sunny greg. James paxton the reds appear to be salary dumping this offseason particularly evidenced by the trade. They made on monday to send closer. Russell iglesias to anaheim for light return would gray be available on the trademark. It seems likely know. Would he even remotely be a candidate for return to new york. Conventional wisdom says no by a lot can change in a few years. And i just have two words for you. Have your vazquez yet. they're different though. Because sunny grades. A bitch and javier vazquez didn't smile at all of us and didn't didn't do the off off the field. I don't even remember what he did off the field but no. He didn't do anything but the point is that he did not perform in new york and then he he performed before new york then he didn't perform in new york and then he performed after new york and then he didn't perform in new york and then he performed after new york some guys. Jj said this before. They have doodoo down their pants immediately when they see the empire state building. I believe that as well. I believe there is a lot of things that go beyond the the actual pitching in the mount. Everybody is blaming. Larry rothschild at this point because now that we've seen what sunny gray done in cincinnati. Oh by the way with his pitching coach from college. The guy that has to be with him for him to have any success but they see that and now we're like okay. This guy is would be an addition that would be positive for this team. We want him back. So there's there's a lot of you know blind faith that those skills those numbers are going to now translate when he's in the bronx in the in the in the pinstripes and i just maybe it's maybe no fans in the stands will help him so maybe that maybe this is an opportunity for him. Okay so then what happens what happens twenty gets on the zoom calls and so this is actually starting sunday. Grapevine loves this whole scenario no touching. He doesn't have to get near..

"One prospect. If you don't include dominguez who's fifteen years old with the body of a twenty eight year old. I get what you're saying. So so but what you're saying is clark schmidt or deputy garcia is more important to the yankees than to the white sox and that might be true but as far as quality of prospect goes there basically essentially the same yes as far as the rankings. Us so from a league wide perspective from an outsider. Looking in if it was clark schmidt or debbie garcia not both or four lance lynn. That would be exactly comparable trade. And i think a what i thought in my gm plans was was what was going to happen. I had clark schmidt in a mid level prospect for for lance lynn. You had Mcgowan and dimicco. Her ma for land slid a little bit different. Actually probably depending on what you look at. If if you're looking at major league ready talent you gave up way too much in that trade. But if you're looking at prospect talent then then i give up more in the trade. Yeah i mean kind of but not really again if you're looking at the total pipeline um numbers than then not really that much to be honest there there again very very close. you know. that doesn't really also way what's happened in the major leagues. So there's a there's a world where i think some gm's will Rank dave david garcia higher than what you see in the pipeline rankings. Those are not refreshed rankings So you know they usually do them mid-sized but i'm saying now david some experience under his belt. He's shown that he can handle the. Here's a postseason start cash. It does yeah. I don't even know if a qualified anything it does. It's the star is a start under his belt so he So i think that you know. Put a little higher cartwright. We saw struggle at the end of the year as well. So you know that's fresh in people's minds at the same time but yet look the rangers. I think we're looking for the best opportunity to to give it up. They should treated him last year and they would have gotten much better. They screwed up who years two years in a row. They've screwed up trading their pitching prospects and have gotten to no. I'm not saying he's not not much. That's that's something. It's a major league ready arm. But that's really all they got for. You know him. And mike minor two guys that they traded for much higher stakes. They got one pitcher. Who's probably a ceiling at a number four. Three three to four max so overwhelmingly yankees fans did not wanna make this trait. 'cause i put out. A poll should the yankees traded concerns. Let's just make sure we're talking about that. And they represent the worst of the worst. But i put out the poll. Should they have traded schmidt or garcia in a package for lance lynn and eighty two percent. Hell no okay. So i don't know where you land. I would have done that trade. Because i had it in my gm plans. Because the way i look at it is. You're not hurting both. So that's good so you try. And if you think clark's mundell arcia are comparable in prospect With they're going to be in their major league career. Then then you have confidence that either could be a good major league pitcher. You don't care who you give up. May maybe the yankees favor one over the other and they would try and push the rangers towards towards one. I know a lot of people. Think ceus size will eventually hinder him in the major leagues. So that could be one thing. And that would lean the yankees to favor. Clark schmidt fine so if you would rather trade garcia than schmidt i get it but lance. Lynn can help you win the world series in twenty twenty two. He has been he twenty one. What is twenty twenty. I'm losing track of the years at this point as he's just twenty twenty the whole goddamn ear in twenty twenty one because he believe it or not has been one of the best pitchers in baseball for the last two seasons. Yes in the top of the yankees rotation right. Now is very much in flux. There's one guy who's dominant. They have an ace and four question marks so and for anyone who thinks luis severino is coming back this year. He's coming back from. Tommy john surgery hopefully in june or july. Who knows what he is. You cannot count on. Luis severino being a number two pitcher. There's a lot of guys really find them selves getting back until the second year they get back so that montgomery i kind of one that i you know that first bit when you when you're when you're back on the team It yeah we'll see what happens with them. But i'm not expecting you know vintage seven art even what that is but peaks of reno you know. That's two thousand eighteen major seen. We've already seen it but two thousand. It's very. I think it's more realistic to understand. And to set expectations for two thousand twenty two which is actually not next year is the year that severino is. I'm circling dot year as as his. You know we'll see what he is at that point we'll see if he's fully doubt if do you What do you think the yankees window to win. A championship is realistic window to win a championship. Well i think it's look we. We talked about this in the gm plans. And i i the next two years and the reason. I emphasize the next two years. Because of what's happening in arbitration guys are going to be signed guys are not going to be signed. The they've got some decisions to be made in that time guys are aging. Guys are aaron judge. He earned judges not. He's not a mid twenties guy anymore. He's gonna be in his thirties that being said if they're able to if some of these pitching prospects. Let's say david garcia and clark schmidt both just for conversation conversation sake. Become very good. Major league pitchers now you have a rotation of garrett cole luis severino coming back and then a couple of guys and then who knows what they do if you have a pitching staff. That's that's formidable. Like that and you young pitching staff. You could build around that so if the next two years are working and possibly because of injuries you know for whatever reason it's not it doesn't mean that the yankees can't add onto what they have and and be very very good but different different guy so like it's take talking about the window it's with the with a grain of salt for sure because the yankees will go out and make moves and make themselves competitive and potentially theoretically. That could be better. It could be for the better of the entire team. Maybe who knows. So if you're if you're looking at the at the current roster of what we have now to me this kerr rosser has a window of two years. Yeah maybe it's a little longer. Because i kind of compare to two thousand nine when the yankees went out and signed c c sabathia and they got four years of peaks. A bath you as their prime window. Nine ten eleven twelve. They went to the in two thousand twelve so of course they were still in the championship window. But then the wheels fell off so the achey sign garrett cole to a massive contract in two thousand twenty so twenty twenty one twenty two twenty three maybe twenty four. But it's really maybe just till twenty twenty three so three more years. I mean i think i think peak garrett cole okay fine but i think it's going to be taking more than that. That's kind of my point. It's gonna take more than just gary cole. We have pekar call right now unless you're adding on or you're building the team around him. It's not gonna matter. Garrett calls not enough he's great he's and more things happen than just tabatha not being good and thirteen mark. Teixeira alex rodriguez derek jeter every clip and hit. The this is different. This is a different sense because different. It's about contracts rather than age right but it might be also injuries could be interest so so many guys on this team have dealt with injuries in their twenty s. Imagine what they're going to be like in their third. I would no i don't want to. I don't wanna. I don't wanna go down that road but you're right there can be. There could be a cliff in that sense or it could drag out in like they'll sprinkle injuries like we've had over..

"Will maybe no. After these qualifying offers are decided on. Does that change your opinion on how the yankees should approach this offseason. Because there's other guys that they've been you know we didn't mention charlie morton and our off season plans and other was vesting option on his contract that i guess is not gonna get kicked in But he's a free agent Balsamo think i think a lot of these free agents that are happening right now when we were talking about this. I mean so much happened in a week. We probably should have waited a week but the fact that there were so many offers that were not accepted or not. They were not picked up at all. There are no coughing offers. Were not not not well. You mean you're talking about your options. We're not picked up on the options. Yeah team option. They were picking. It's been the no one. Has six players received qualifying offers. I don't think anyone has said yes or no yet but two years ago a look it up. All of those vesting options are probably picked up Two to three years ago. They're picked up the like but like we talked about chris archer less lhasa. Apso see going to be getting them. He hasn't been good. I you can't put martin Same category at all been early. Morton has been mourns. Morton's wasn't a team option. It was a vesting option. Which so he he. He didn't reach the qualifications to get his option. Picked up. okay. I thought there was a team. There was some team decision within that within that point anyway so i guess bauer has rejected the quote ridiculous. Qualifying offer just said the so. This is the year. This is the era in this the that robbie ray contractors assigned to me that these these deals are not going to be where these guys think they are. So ed so. They're going to do two things they're going to try to get one your deal and then what wait to the. Why but why are you gonna say a one year deal right now. You want to send a multi right. That's thank but the one year deal. Just happen to eight million dollars for a guy. Like robbie ray i know robbie ray is not the talent bar that anybody wants to see but he is a bar somewhere and by looking at that eight million dollars okay. Rut robbie ray two years ago. Probably get a if he sends a one year deal probably close to seventeen eighteen million dollars close to that i'd say right average have got so eight million dollars. That's insanely low when you look at that. That means why we're at the yankees in on robbery rape because speakers you know what they saw that and they're like i don't robbie ray power because it's like when you see something on sale. You're like that couldn't possibly be good. Yeah well you look at that. What else is on sale. If that's on sale that that the the the car that i've been looking for okay that things are going shopping. You might as well go for the high stuff and and go to tj maxx and get something that's named named brand. Don't don't don't settle for the generic shit. Go get trevor. Bauer now and pay pennies on the dollar for a multi year deal. Now he's only ever. Yeah we've never seen so we've seen in when free agency has been out of wack. We've seen guys like robbie race very million bucks. Maybe a guy like Ahsan we'll sign stock assigned these guys but then the top guys still get what they're worth. 'cause you're still you're still trevor. Bauer yourself cy young. there's a lot of. There's a lot of of haziness around. Trevor bauer enough to to not be that confident to be there. There are things to doubt when it comes to him. So i'll tell you this if trevor bauer and subsiding somewhere for a discount repairs if the yankees weren't there the thing i mean sure you don't know what i it wouldn't surprise me if it was up to a one year deal and he's already teased this. You would on your forty million taiwan because if you're one of these guys this year you're like well there might be a lockout. After next year. They might neither side. Could get unsafe. Page signed the one year her pop next year. Dj lem who take that one year qualifying offer. I just wanna play. I just i just need to put some. I black on and and field some grounders. I'm going to japan baby. Yeah so there's going to be an interesting market but The i think the savvy gm's are going to be poised and ready to go for this this strange market and if i'm looking for signs just that's that's i see a new market. I'm looking for signs in which it's going to go so i can try to be ready for all directions but but also tried to make calculated Guesses on on the way things might go and looking at trends. And when i see that. I contract side. Eight million dollars for a guy that's been relatively coveted at the trade deadline for the past four years. That's a sign that we're not seeing big deal. I saw an at in a small market. So one thing. I wanna go back to. That thought small-market a medium size market saw smaller. Get to the question that i meant to mention so alex said can we move. Dj first base. Where do you stand on that. Because that doesn't really get the most value out of deejay lemay yet. I know but here. Here's one of the things that that you've mentioned quite often about first baseman at this conversation has happened. A lot with within the topic of gary sanchez. Gary sanchez value behind the behind. The plate with his offense. Is you theoretically used to be out of this world right. He's the best offensive purely hypothetical. So we're talking about gary sanchez the best offensive catcher. When you move into a different position now those those offensive numbers. Don't look as good when you compare them when you compare him to first baseman right compared to d. h. Is it's not the same. I feel like we need to get away from this model because this model to be does not make a lot of sentinels. That's okay so that's not where i was. Go but right now where we are today. This model to doesn't matter for the new york yankees the new york yankees have to make sure that they have a complete team. I don't really give a shit..
