Atlanta: Governor Brian Kemp announces coronavirus task force
"Here's governor can everyone thank you so much for joining us this afternoon I'm here with doctor Kathleen Toomey Georgia's chief medical officer the commissioner of the department of public health to give you an update shortly but first give me a list let me give you a little bit of background on what we've been doing so far earlier today I spoke with vice president pence as a former governor I believe he's a great choice to lead the national effort to address in the crown of ours I'm thankful to the trump administration for their leadership including a takes HHS secretary I use our CDC officials as well as the department of defense and homeland security the trump administration's been working seamlessly with states across our country including Georgia to keep Americans safe we're working to ensure that we're prepared for anything Georgia as you know does not have any confirmed cases of the clone of ours well we remain very vigilant we're asking everyone to remain calm and to follow guidance that we're getting from federal and that you'll be getting from state officials as well with daughter teams team we we have been in preparation mode for weeks now we've had multiple calls with federal partners women organizing state agencies and developing a strategic plan earlier today announced the state's coronavirus task force with public and private sector leaders as well as key stakeholders although several members have already been working hand in hand this task force will hold its first official meeting in a little under an hour here at the state capitol to reiterate we do not have any confirmed cases in Georgia what we want to be prepared for whatever comes our way I'd like to close by saying a few words of finance the doctor's home who is chairing our state task force her team has been working around the clock for weeks now their experience and I have a detailed plan to ensure that our state is ready so thank you again for coming today Animal Planet over to doctor Welton S. live from the state capitol state officials are talking about the corona virus leadership this is your leadership has given us a fourth we needed to do the work that we're doing moving forward and that as you heard we have no cove in nineteen cases in Georgia and race for transmission here in Georgia remains low but I know that the question you have today is will there be cases we have no way of knowing when or after we will have code in nineteen cases what we do know is that we have a robust plan in place a plan initially developed for this type of outbreak pandemic influenza and we're currently working with other state agencies and state wide partners to ensure we have all the systems in place to respond we're communicating regularly with right with medical providers and hospitals as it is critical that we continue to work together to identify possible cases and successfully prevent new cases in the community this is not the first time public health is just one of the outbreaks with the introduction of new or unusual infections H. one N. one was in two thousand nine the borough's virus became an issue for us in two thousand fourteen it was west Nile Zika virus and even our everyday recent responses to more routine infections including including seasonal influenza measles demonstrate our capacity to respond quickly to prevent the spread of infection in the community and rapidly coordinate with medical providers and hospitals we will build on these capacities for any covert nineteen response these activities have been going on in Georgia for many weeks are we are literally in daily multiple daily contacts with CDC and working very very closely with them part of our work is been to coordinate with CDC identify returning travelers and monitor potentially at risk individuals who are coming back from travel in China and and now other areas we also have staff answering phone calls twenty four seven as we receive enquiries from providers and how rules to ensure a coordinated response and facilitate testing the most frequent question I'm getting in my office is how could we prevent infection and I will say something that said so many times before the best way to prevent infections trying true measures the report for everyday health Z. Aug prevent novel coronavirus wash your hands wash your hands frequently with soap and water if not available hand sanitizer avoid touching your mouth and nose avoid close contact with people who may be sick stay home when you are sick cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and double insure that others are put at risk but most of all get a flu shot and we are still in the flu season we just had nine additional deaths in Georgia reported today also our total for this year's been sixty six deaths from flu your flu shot won't prevent you from getting a call within the cover nineteen but will potentially reduce your risk for a flu infection or minimize the intensity of your floor affection it keep you out of the hospital

"All about i think like alec they have realized that lots of people are doing similar things around the country and they might as well get on as close to the same page as the can and to do that they will learn from legislative initiatives around the country and evolved their agenda over time so what they've done here is they've looked around and they've put together twenty model bills generically because every state is so different you know i around christian nationalist teams in education like posting in god we trust in public buildings in the public schools on a second category of proclamations and resolutions that governors and state legislatures can put out commemorating you know everything from the year of the bible to religious freedom day and a third in various disturbing category that every packages in friendly language sort of the discrimination kinds of bills that we've been seeing around the country like there to that in the news right now in oklahoma state legislature passed a bill that would allow adoption agencies to refuse service to lgbtq couples if they have a religious or moral objection and a similar bill is going through the kansas state legislature right now those bills not exactly like these model bills and they have a different providence but they're the same idea as these bills and it's a it's a wealth of what the christian right agenda is all about and and welton all framed under the rubric of religious liberty so would you say as a generalization that they are subverting democracy or they are trying to bring about a christian america.
