"They're not gonNA get what they want and when I say full size all sides, this four sided war you have al Qaeda in their youth rebel sorted by Iran. You have President Haughty. You also the Saudi coalition which is led by the E in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia UCF decided to go their separate ways within the coalition. There's still allied against who the rebels but the same time Saudi Arabia's fourth president haughty whose exile in Riyadh and they want to establish him to wreak take control of Yemen. Whereas the United Arab Emirates Sports Southern Transitional Council, which almost wants to separate from northern Yemen and create a war secular state and so the sailing transitional council does not like President Haughty. So them and and President Hunter Allied against the HUSKIES but in their allied with Saudi Arabian the E. But at the same time, they don't like each other and they have different views. So you you have even within the coalition, you have different political parties fighting in Saudi. Arabia tends to give support Ali Slough, which is a member, bother the Muslim Brotherhood, which was kind of terrorist group of as so they get funding to them and they WANNA see more. Conservative country similar to Saudi Arabia you know. A lot more Islamic principles. And so there's that divide there. So will they cheat peace? Will they need? They need to recognize that the No side is going to get what they want sihities, bombing Yemen, that's not helpful I. I don't understand what's going on trump needs to stop giving support to Saudi Arabia for this war specifically, I don't think we should I think we should still talk to religious stop funding the war because if we pull out in Saudi Arabia's take on Iran on their own, they'll stop in once that happens it'll just become ill actually civil war without any foreign intervention. In angles have to let it play out. I mean I hate to say it but I like the war. Libya, as long as there's foreign powers intervening, there's never never gonNa end you have lots of or play itself out you that ends True with every civil? War. Foreign powers to push its continuation than nets and you're GONNA be Greta see a continue So that signing do I think the Middle East will chief BCS eventually it will I think the Civil War I. Don't think it's GonNa last much larger Catholic Yemen can take much more of this war. Because it's already devastated. And Yeah, this I think I think if Iran. I think Iran, collapses at that line. The were also because Iran string lot andrew US sanctions. So if they if they do continue to struggle that way then. In A, they won't have money to continue to fund who the rebels is. So you might see Yemen, start to. Act, there might actually be peace. In your future really know about that. It's hard to tell..

Trump and Biden's Diverging Visions for American Foreign Policy

"In our ongoing election coverage were taking a deep look at how president trump and democratic. Presidential nominee Joe Biden differ on major policy issues. Today, we're going examine foreign affairs mark. Stewart spoke with the journals national, security reporter Warren Strobel. A lot of attention in recent days to the Middle East obviously president trump is touting success with peace accords with Israel. Let's talk about the trump approach versus the biden approach. Yeah I mean in the waning weeks of the campaign here Mr Trump has secured really historic agreements from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to make peace with Israel and recognize it diplomatically big achievement. No. Matter how you count it. I think most people would agree but there are fundamental differences between the Republican Democratic candidates particularly when it comes to Saudi Arabia Mr Biden has said that he would review relations with Saudi Arabia, which is probably the most important US ally in the Middle East that he would consider stopping arms sales he's been very critical of their killing of the journalist dissident. Jamal Kashogi Mr Trump on the other hand has declined to put pressure on Saudi Arabia. Really. In any significant way he sort of dismissed defining by the CIA that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman probably ordered the killing of Mr. Kashogi and he has vetoed congressional moves to limit arms sales to Riyadh. Saudi Arabia obviously issues in the Middle East but also Iran. Let's talk about the different approaches there. Yeah. Here again, that's quite a stark difference Mr Trump. Two thousand seventeen withdrew from the Iran nuclear accord known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on. He has launched a campaign of maximum pressure designed to limit Iran's ability to cause trouble in the region and try to force it back into talks. He's also by the way in recent days Mr Trump has said get reelected around will come to the table and we can make a deal real quickly. Mr Biden has said he would go back into the nuclear agreement. He would get the United States back into that agreement if Iran also returns to compliance. So again, Joe Biden is tough on Iran but he is much more. I think looking at diplomatic track to try and halt their nuclear program. Another region of interest is certainly Europe. Obviously there are economic issues, their political as well as military issues. When we look at Europe, how big of a role does the relationship with NATO play in this discussion? You know I think it plays a significant role. NATO's the probably the most important and one of the longest standing alliances that the United States has. Important economically in terms of the trade between the United States and Europe, and important strategically given its role in sort of countering Russia Russia intervention in places like Ukraine Belarus. Again there's differences here though Mr Trump has been pretty critical of NATO. He demanded that all the countries live up to. A promise they made to spend two percent of their GDP. Self. Defense, and there have been rumors that he might withdraw from NATO entirely or want to. This is Chris from Mr Biden who again stressing the importance of good alliances with Europe and other parts of the world. You. Briefly mentioned Russia, where are the distinctions in viewpoint and policy between the two candidates? That's a good question. I think the trump administration has been in terms of my reporting and analysis sort of a weird bee's when it comes to Russia Mr Trump himself. No has been quite friendly with and trying to strike a good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but the people in the middle and. Upper levels of US government agencies are taking much more dim view, Mr Putin, and actually you know the US has done a lot of sanctions and other actions against Putin during Mr Trump's terms. So there's sort of a kind of a bipolar aspect to his administration's dealings with Russia Mr. Biden. I think has been more critical. Putin personally and has said he would stand up to Mr Putin on things such as election interference the Russian incursion into Ukraine and other things like that.

UN Fails to Pass Palestinian Resolution

"In the news stunning move from the Arab League failed to pass a proposed Palestinian resolution, which would have condemned the normalization deal between Israel and the United Arab. Saudi Arabia and more a senior League official was quoted as saying discussion around this point was serious and comprehensive, but it did not lead to. Agreement over the resolution proposed by the Palestinians. Steve this is a big deal the Palestinians. If you think about this, the Palestinians probably have more friends in the United Nations than they do in the Arab League where they actually have full membership status, the Arab countries believe this is what the Arab countries are saying to the Palestinians. They believe that normalizing a relationship with Israel is more important than their complaint. Now I do believe that this is going to take the Palestinians in a certain direction I. I believe that there's one way out for the Palestinians and it's not through the Arab League it's actually to go into the arms of Iran. This is something that I think the Israelis are looking toward something that two countries are looking toward as well to make sure that the Palestinians don't go in that direction they already are shaking hands in many ways, but some of the PAL with the Iranians. So we gotta keep our eye on that, but we'll have to wait and see ultimately what happens in the end but continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

"Says it's fighter jets struck militant sites in Gaza in response to rockets being fired at Israel. NPR's Daniel Estrin says the rocket fire began during yesterday's White House signing ceremony involving diplomatic agreements reached by Israel and two Arab nations. Israel's military says Palestinian militants launched 13 rockets towards southern Israel Tuesday to Israelis suffered light and moderate wounds. Then Israeli air strikes targeted militant sites in Gaza with no injuries reported. The Islamic Jihad group said it fired the rockets to protest the deals. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed with Israel. Palestinians accused those countries of betrayal for rewarding Israel with diplomatic ties while the Israeli Palestinian conflict continues. Those Gulf Arab states never fought a war against Israel. For years, they had covert relations. The Gaza Israel violence was a reminder of the Mideast peace that still has not been achieved.

President Trump presides over a reshaping of Middle East power dynamic

"The White House was trying to resolve the Israeli Palestinian conflict with the quote deal of the century, but the Palestinians were not among those signing the so called Abraham Accords today. It was the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates in Bahrain, agreeing to open diplomatic and economic ties with Israel. President Trump's staged an elaborate ceremony to mark the occasion were here this afternoon to change the course of history. After decades of division and conflict, we marked the dawn of a new Middle East. Neither Bahrain nor the United Arab Emirates were at war with Israel. They had been working quietly together to counter Iran. Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, thanked the the US US president, president, You You have have unequivocally unequivocally stood stood by by Israel Israel side. side. You You have have boldly boldly confronted confronted the the tyrants tyrants of of Tehran. Tehran. You've proposed a realistic vision for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, Palestinian see the deal's as a betrayal by their Arab allies and an effort by the Trump administration to undermine the Arab peace initiative. That plan calls for normalization with Israel after the Israeli Palestinian conflict is resolved. The Trump Administration took a different approach, says Aaron David Miller of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. They reserved all the honey for Israel in the key Arab states and all the vinegar for the Palestinians. The idea is that as Arab states normalize ties with Israel and get big arms deals with the U. S. They will put pressure on the Palestinians to make peace with Israel on terms more favourable to Netanyahu. Miller says It's known as the outside in approach, and he recalls numerous conversations about this with Trump's son in law and advisor Jared Kushner. It was just easier for them. It was more attractive for them. It was much more in keeping with the pro Israeli sensibilities both for political reasons, and in the case of Mr Questioner and others emotionally To align themselves with the eyes outside in approach. It's starting to pay off. But the Trump administration is still short of its ultimate prize, Miller says. Getting Saudi Arabia on board. My only concern is that they have hyped and Who plotted to the point where That may not yet be wanted. But if other Arab states join the party, particularly the Saudis, then I think you've got something that will be much more enduring. The Arab foreign minister say they're not turning their backs on Palestinians and Moradi Abdullah bin Zayed, speaking through an interpreter reminded Netanyahu that he agreed to suspend plans to annex parts of the Israeli occupied West Bank. You can look after dark cell. Um thank you for choosing peace and for halting the annexation off Palestinian territories at position that reinforces our shared will To achieve a better future for generations to come. In this time of a pandemic. The men didn't wear masks as they signed their deals with Israel. They did, however, avoid a public handshake. And while the ceremony was taking place at the White House, Palestinian militants in Gaza fired two rockets into southern Israel.

Later, Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump indicated more countries will be getting on board. I call it going around the spark door coming in a different way, and we have many other countries going to be joining us. They're going to be joining us soon. We'll have. I mean, I think seven or eight or nine we're gonna have a lot of other countries joining us, including the Big one. Today's ceremony is part of an initiative being pushed by the Trump administration is a key foreign policy win during the president's reelection campaign. As Israeli leaders attended a ceremony at the White House to establish diplomatic ties with the two countries. Militants in Gaza fired rockets at Israel, medics say At least two Israelis were wounded. NPR's Daniel Estrin reports from Jerusalem. Medics say the two men had moderate and light shrapnel wounds. The rocket fire hit the southern Israeli town of US dude Video on social media showed a crowd gathered near shop with shattered glass on the sidewalk. Palestinians opposed the two Gulf states agreements with Israel as abandoning the Palestinians and their conflict with Israel. "Such a fuss over the murder of US journalist Jamal kashogi by agents of the Saudi government was killed in a Saudi consulate in Turkey one way that the US government has been considering trying to calm down the Turkish government about this murder is by giving turkeys. Authoritarian president the thing he wants most in the world from the United States wants the United States to hand over to him an exiled Turkish cleric was a legal permanent resident of the United States. He's lived in Pennsylvania for twenty years. Turkey's government blames this guy for an attempted coup in two thousand sixteen as well as everything else that has ever gone wrong and Turkey ever. It's a pretty good bet that nothing good would happen to him. If he were sent back to Turkey, and the United States government has rejected. Previous requests by Turkey to hand him over now, though, the Trump administration has reportedly been asking Justice. Department and other federal agencies about ways that we can maybe hand this guy over give them to Turkey in order to get Turkey to stop complaining about the murder of Jamal kashogi Jamak Shoghi lived in Virginia. He was a US resident he wrote for the Washington Post. He was a journalist here in the United States, why on earth with the United States be most concerned in the circumstance with shutting down criticism of the country that murdered him. Joining us. Now is Wendy Sherman? She's former under secretary of state for political affairs. One of America's top ranking diplomats. She's also the author of not for the faint of heart lessons, encourage power and persistence and master Sherman. It's great to have you here. Thank you for being to be here. Thank you. I understand as much as the next newspaper reader understands about this. Can you give us some insight into why the Trump administration might be doing what they're doing here? I think the Trump administration had this theory, and it went something like this. If we can create an alliance with Saudi Arabia. Israel, the United Arab Emirates. We can get together with Israel and make sure that we get a Middle East peace agreed Jared Kushner's famous plan that we're all waiting to see and we can all work together to push a Ron back out of the region. After all I did with Saudis wanted me to do what Israel wanted me to do. I got rid of that bad Obama Iran nuclear deal that may be stopped nuclear weapons, but it was an Obama deal. We should get rid of that make the Gulf make Israel happy, and they will then cooperate together. And anything that throws that off of the path that the president had in mind is a problem for him. Because after all we are all still waiting for this vaunted Middle East peace plan, which is supposed to solve all problems. Meanwhile, nothing has occurred. We have not in any way pushed Iran back out of the region. We have a horrific war in Yemen. That has been led by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. We have an Israeli government. That is under pressure. The prime minister just had to push back a possible no-confidence vote in his own country because of what's happening in Gaza. We have a meltdown with cut her between Saudi Arabian cutter, we have political prisoners in Saudi Arabia. We have what my former boss, and friend and partner have said Madeleine Albright. What we call him diplomacy, a mess in terms of this vaunted plan if this plan is a the big idea of the Trump administration on foreign policy and be in the meantime, it's something that will excuse even the most horrific behavior by our supposed allies in this vaunted plan is it worth it is that plan remotely realistic. Is there any reason that the United States should be doing the kind of stuff that they're doing right now in order to prop that out because of some larger larger game in mind? Well, you know every administration has to walk and chew gum. This administration seems to walk and gain money, and we. Don't know what all the personal financial pieces are to this puzzle. We also have a situation much like Putin's interference with their election. Where the president has said Putin told him he didn't do it in the crown prince's told him, he didn't do it. So I guess he didn't do it..
