"Doesn't like a lot of a lot of faces to confuse them. Yeah well I think that you know there could be something to ultimately look. I'm not just bringing in players to have bodies it's difficult to manage all of that And maybe he just prefers a smaller group. Remember this to that when you go out to sign these players. The players have to WANNA play for you. That you're recruiting them you know. And and by the way you're paying them to in some cases in some cases these guys that get undrafted are getting guaranteed money equivalent to what to what a seventh rounder or sixth. Rounder is if there's competition bird for crying plenty of cap space but but Baltimore Baltimore Baltimore. Signed twenty two of these players over the weekend they don't know and the redskins signed four four. I just thought it stood out like Detroit. Signed seven that was the second fewest but it just stood out like you as you're scrolling down the list and you're seeing Oh my God just each team's got twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen Baltimore's got twenty two and other teams get nineteen hundred teams. Got Twenty and the Redskins have four. I'll ask him tomorrow. I'M GONNA ask him because I'm curious about it but anyway that was just an observation What did you think of the last dance We're not. I'm not draft you okay. I thought you're done with the draft. Did you see our here? Say Young Talk to reporters. Yesterday I did. I had him on the show Saturday. I had him on. Okay what do you think of this young man I like him. He's impressive yes. He is impressive. I like him as well. A handle themselves very well Said all the right things. You know Gave the proper amount of respect for how how much she had to learn along with the confidence in his own abilities And he's very impressive and seems like a very nice young man and with my second reaction is I feel so sorry for him because he doesn't know what's coming he doesn't know you know. I mean he seems so nice and so undeserving of.

"Don't think it matters at all. I think he's in the ring of fame at some point after he retired. Oh Man I'm surprised you missed on this. You missed why because the one person that will make that decision is the owner. You're right that it doesn't matter what fans think but it does matter what the owner thanks. And what's not been lost on me during this entire saga is not one word from the owner about Trent Williams not one note from the team from management the other day after the trade all of the expressions of this wonderful love he has for the owner have been one sided they come from Trent. Most people understand that Bruce Allen had a major problem with Trent Williams in the way this was described initially through. You know other people not directly and eventually through Trent In that there was a lot of anger in the organization. I believe that that anger extended beyond Bruce Allin. I think a lot of people including the owner were really disappointed and angry at what happened here and the owner will decide just like he had to with a guy like Lavar Arrington. Although Arrington doesn't in didn't have the credentials. I will grant you that to be in the redskins ring of fame but Trent Williams has overwhelming credentials to be in the redskins ring of fame. But unless the owner comes around and let's bygones be bygones down the road when Trent retires. I don't know that he'll ever get in. I couldn't care less to be honest with you. I I think he's GonNa wind up in in. I think circumstances will change over the course of ten years maybe and I think Trent will wind up in the ring. A saint. You do though concede or I agree with the point that I've made that over the last year. Not One word nothing from the owner about Trent Williams nothing after the trainer from anybody in the Organization the owner is child. It's just like a child. They bounce around with their feelings for one thing to another and as time goes on. Look at People who didn't have great childhood When they get older Some of them wind up still having these these Selective fond memories of growing up with their parents. This.

"Your quarterback in the draft chase young. I still think that young crazy. But that's exactly what I think know. Every conversation will be talking about it and going through all of the possibilities and I think it was yesterday or the day before he said still if I had to wager right now join. Haskins is the starter with a pure. Backup guy you know. Perception wise signed and they draft chase young and And the Trent Williams thing ten minutes right. Uber's coming now. I now have a show in in less than half hour and I'm sure the producers are thrilled. I'm not well. Just tell them you were talking to me and they'll totally understand. Enjoy your final day or whatever left in in Indianapolis and I'll talk to you next week. I cannot wait to get out of his. Yeah I hear Ya thanks. J. Thanks I good to catch up with JP lot there to sort of digest the Trent Liam stuff certainly sounds like j. p. is on the verge of sort of breaking some news on Trent Williams in the contract demands and how far apart he is with the team that's The twenty million. That's too much you can't pay him. Twenty million bucks. If you're the team you gotta look to trade him now. The problem with some of these dollars getting out there. If they're true entrance gonNA demand them period. It's going to lower the amount of compensation you can get back for him because he's going to cost a team so much and it may limit the number of teams that are even interested if that's what he's demanding look. He lost a lot of money last year. You know holding out cost him a lot of money and JP's line about they're going to try to make it up on a big contract extension. And I bet it's one of those things were that agent was telling him you hang in there you know we're either gonNA get traded and we're going to get a new deal will make up for what you've lost or when we get to next off season they're going to either have to trade your extended. We'll be able to make it up you know they're going for not only what they think is value is but what he lost last year. And that's unfortunately not something. Another team is going to feel compelled to pay for that. That wasn't their problem and really. It's not the redskins problem either anymore. Not This particular administration I think the chances now after talking to J P of a trade are higher with the compensation potential being you know at risk here. I would say what J. P. did and I said it on radio this morning. It's a second maybe a second and a fourth for Trent if you trade him And if he were willing to take a deal that's more in sort of the top five range in terms of average annual. I would probably be fine if the redskins chose to go down that path But remember the mode I am in. Which is I'm all in on Ron Rivera. At least for now the Ryan Kerrigan thing you know I do think that there is this feeling that the organization is always had in the thing that they focus too much on which is about you. Know Ring of fame and who's representing them at harvestfestival and who's the guy that they WANNA put up on websites and golf tournaments and all of that and it's never been about you know actually what happens on Sunday and Monday nights you know and and there's no doubt that Ryan Carrigan could potentially be a real good impact player for the next two to three years with really good coaching. You know I mean the Preston Smith. Lorenzo Alexander stuff remember when they moved and pressing. Smith'S CASE LAST YEAR. They moved his younger players. So if you think of like the new coaching staff is like a new restart for Ryan Kerrigan. That's great except that he's an older player But I'm not discounting the possibility at all that a four three defense with him as a defensive end With him as an inside tackle as a pass rusher potentially with good coaching. That we couldn't see you know some of the Best Ryan Kerrigan still to come in that raw Ron Rivera Jack del Rio. Feel the same way and that this is a one hundred percent their decision that after evaluating Ryan season last year which was cut short for the first time in his career where he actually got injured. Missed Games that after reviewing tape and they know who he is obviously anyway They they've played against him. They've coached against him in the past. They've watched him. They know kind of player. He is and they know kind of scheme. They're running and hopefully you know. This is all about men Ryan Kerrigan. You know two three year contract you know with sort of a a cap hit you know that's team friendly because it's spread out rather than the eleven point six or whatever he's got left for one year that's a bargain because we can really fit him in you know in early down distance here and on past situations here and he'll fit this kind of defensive scheme like they hopefully it's about what they think he can contribute to their defense and not about. Hey the owner saying hey ron. He's a redskin man. Ryan Kerrigan's true redskin. He is a major part of this community. I don't WanNa see him finish his career elsewhere. I hope it's not about that to hell with that. Who gives a crap about that? You know what the Redskins have one with Ryan Kerrigan Nada. Nothing zero and two. Jp's point we all notice fans some of our all time. Favorite players ended their careers elsewhere. Gary Clark Art Monk Dexter Manley you know the list goes on and on you know superbowl. Mvp Mark Rippin ended his career multiple different places. You know so. I don't WanNa hear about the you know true redskin. I don't WanNa hear about ring of fame. You can put him in all the ring. Fame's you want after he finishes career in Houston and with the rams. You know if you don't think he's a good fit so if they think he's a good fit and this is a Rivera Jack del Rio decision. I'm good with it on the sheriff thing. I don't want sheriff to go anywhere. I don't I think sheriff is incredibly effective and athletic You don't you don't see many guards. Run the way Brandon Sheriff runs. You don't see many guards move athletically. The Way Brandon. Sheriff can move athletically I would prefer a long contract extension. Rather than a significant one year franchise tag. You know our experience here. With the franchise tag is into good one You know with that said if they slap the tag on him here on him in in the next few days It doesn't mean that they can't get to a long term contract extension. They can continue to negotiate with the player and he can sign a long Contract extension even while on the tag All right I wanted to get to this thing. next Actually a couple one one last thought trump Williams If the money's too much and they move on by trading Trent Williams you still got come up with a left tackle. She no and now what you are potentially creating is a need to trade back in the draft and pick up more picks and I don't want losing Trent Williams to sort influence how the draft is handled at number two in what I mean by that is if chase young is by far and away the number one player on the board and he's there at number two and you think he is the next dominant pass rusher in the game. I want the Redskins to take him. I don't want the need corner. The need left tackle the needed tight end to influence the decision at number two and perhaps lead to a trade back with say. Miami is J. P. pointed out where you pick up number five overall and you're able to get Jeff Okuda if he's there the coroner to fill the corner a need and then at eighteen overall with Miami's second first round? Pick that you get. You're able to fill the left tackle need with Andrew Thomas from Georgia. Just throwing some of the guys that are going to be in that that range of the draft and then in the second round year like you know what we can get ourselves a guard. If we don't sign sheriff or flowers or we can go get a tight end there. I understand that there are many holes. I also understand the concept of drafting more players increases the the likelihood that you'll hit on more players that you did not as a percentage but because the percentage is so low if you assume that you hit on thirty five percent of the players you draft then it's better to draft more players than less especially if you can't pinpoint which ones are gonNA work out and which ones don't most can't they think they can they can with that said if chase young is their brother. I'm not passing unchaste young and he's going to be there more likely than not. And if you don't have Trent Williams it's going to potentially bring into the conversation. The trade back As sort of deemed to be more important. Because now you can fill the left tackle need you can fill the corner need okay. You didn't get the best pass rusher of the next ten years but you got yourself in elite starting corner and a really good left tackle that you think compla- filled two holes with really really good players. But you gave up on the sure thing. I don't want to go that route. I don't so that's the other just sort of potential fallout from trading. Trent which I'm okay with. I just don't want it to influence the way they handle number two. I think it could. I wanted to get to Something to more things in the show we're going to talk about Doug Gottlieb's tweet Yesterday and then Aaron and I are GonNA talk about Maryland Michigan State which is a game for the turps to clinch a share of the big ten title with a win tomorrow night against Michigan State. "You want it you need it. It's what everyone's talking about the Kevin Sheehan show now. Here's Kevin Ahrens here. I am here. Jp Finley scheduled to be on the program today We've got a lot to talk about their Trent Williams News There was a tweet put out by Doug Gottlieb about Twain Haskins which we will talk about. But I'm gonNA open with this. The combines underway. And there's a name you should keep an eye on an ear open for and his. Name's Michael Turk- He's Arizona's State's kicker and punter and at the combine Yesterday he put up twenty five reps at two hundred and twenty five pounds on the bench. Press it was remarkable. The twenty-five reps were more than current. Nfl players like Frank. Clark Judean cloudy and demarcus Lawrence put up more than Devon white put up last year at the combine in so far at the combine more than all but one tight end and all thirty three receivers. Michael Turk out performed on the bench. Press as a kicker-punter out of Arizona State. Now that aside the name may be familiar to you. Matt Turk was his uncle. Matt Turk was a longtime. Nfl punter seventeen year career including from the years. Nineteen Ninety five through nineteen ninety nine here in Washington where he was a first team all pro in nineteen ninety six as the redskins punter. But there's more to Matt Turk Matt's brother. Dan Turk was the long snapper in Washington. For a couple of seasons including the season in which Brad Johnson and the redskins offense led them to a division title in Nineteen Ninety Nine and into the playoffs. Were they beat Detroit? In a wildcard round playoff game and then traveled to Tampa for divisional round game. The redskins lead that game. Thirteen to nothing. It's the game where Brian Mitchell had a one hundred yard. Kickoff return to start the second half they were up thirteen. Nothing they were in total control. It looked like they were on their way to the NFC championship game to face the greatest show on turf right though those loss. Those Saint Louis Rams of Kurt Warner and company the year that the rams went on to win the Super Bowl over the titans In that In that Fr incredible Kurt Warner you know at a nowhere season well in that divisional round game to get to Saint Louis for the NFC championship game. The redskins gave up a thirteen. Nothing lead they trailed fourteen to thirteen. And with just over a minute to go the redskins lined up for a go ahead. Field goal from fifty two yards out with Brett Conway who a pretty good kicker that year and Dan Turk Matt Turks brother right in. I don't know if this particular Kirk at Arizona State. Is Dan Kirk son? I don't believe it is Matt Turk was one of six boys in his family. I don't think it was Dan Turks on because Dan Turk passed away He's no longer with us. But BACK TO THE PLAYOFF GAME. Dan Turk Botched the snap he sent a snap back to Brad. Johnson that rolled back Brad. Johnson had to pick it up and try to make a play. He could make a play. The game ended. They lost fourteen thirteen norv. Turner set after the game as the head coach. When you've gotTA makeable field goal you'd like to see the ball at least get up in the air Dan Turk was distraught. After that game quote Oh my God. Oh my God I am so sick. I didn't slip. I don't know what happened. I I've done what I've done for so long. I don't know if I short armed or what. The nose tackle gotta jump on me but nothing abnormal. I don't know according to the stories backed and Dan Turk didn't even get on the team plane to fly back to D C after the loss of that game with a chance to advance to the NFC championship game and less than a year later. Dan passed away. I believe it was from cancer. I didn't actually look that up and I probably should have but Dan Turk passed away less than a year later from I think. Cancer and And it was a very sad story. Yes it was. It was cancer rates. it was a very sad story. I mean that was. He was thirty in his mid to late thirties. At the time I believe so I my my guess is that if this could be his son but again there were several boys in the Turk family But when I saw this name pop up on a story about a punter setting you know records at the combine or or putting up impressive numbers at the combine. Say Weightlifter on the bench And I saw the last name It was part of the whole Turk family. Lot of kickers. Lot of snappers. But I'll never forget that Tampa game man. That's the closest the redskins have ever gotten under Snyder to an NFC championship game. They had a lead a double digit lead on the road to get to the NFC title game the other opportunities that they had the only other divisional round game that the Redskins and participated in over the last twenty one seasons was the year that they beat Tampa in wildcard game and then played Seattle in the divisional round game and lost the seahawks game. They were in had a chance early. If you're if you recall if Carlos Rogers hangs onto a sure pick six for and nothing lead somebody dropped it and the redskins went on to lose that game Rest in peace. Dan Turk of course and good luck. to the younger of the Turks Michael Turk the Arizona State You know a kicker punter Who is apparently going to be available in this draft and who knows may may may get drafted when just real quickly when you think about the playoff futility of the last twenty one years and you put it in sort of the context that I just put it in that. They've only played in the second weekend of the Post Season. Two Times in twenty one seasons under Dan Snyder. And actually it's two times since nineteen ninety two all right so you know there. There were several seasons obviously with the cooks and with Charlie casserly as GM that the redskins didn't play in the division around either but that has to be one of the worst runs of a professional football team ever. It's one thing not to win super bowls or get to super bowls. It's another thing to only participate in the second round of the playoffs. Two Times in twenty. It's twenty seven years two times in twenty seven years. Not Good Right. Jp P. Finley's GonNa join us So we can talk about the Trent Williams News And the Ryan Kerrigan News which he got from Ron Rivera. Jp is in Indianapolis and has been there all week for the NFL scouting combine And he had this story yesterday about Ron Rivera Sing Ryan Kerrigan's part of the plans for twenty twenty had some stuff on Brandon sheriff. We'll get his thoughts on the Trent Williams News as well. I'm first of all what what's the week been like there. I've been a couple of times years ago. I I'm not a big consumer of it on television really. I'll read about the different players that are performing well. What's it like to be there these days cold? It's been snowing all week. Hasn't really yeah. Yeah. I don't like the cold. Indianapolis is not my favorite place. But it's cool you know every year I've been out here. There's kind of been one dominancy. That is the conversation.

"I do like baltimore's defense not as much as i liked it last year and i think the offense is a big unknown. I'm going to be intrigued watching them play but i think they go seven and nine step back year from a year ago. I get the bengals bringing up the rear in that division at foreign in twelve the a._f._c. south has my first surprise team of the year. I think jacksonville is gonna win the division in the a._f._c. south good god or they'd still so talented on on defense. You take a look at that jacksonville defense when healthy if especially if they've got an offense that's halfway professional which they haven't had in recent years. You have in gakugei who i loved coming out of the draft from maryland. He's turned into one of the best pass rushers in the n._f._l. You still have marcell dareus callejas campbell and miles miles jack miles jacks one of the you know think about that injury that he had he in both <hes> jalen smith right. We're both sort of injured coming out. Perceived need to be potential star players linebacker but had the serious injury coming into the n._f._l. Miles jack is a beast of a player and and then they've got the secondary with the two corners jalen ramsey and i love jacksonville's defense i loved it last year and now you get nick foles offensively a professional national quarterback certainly more professional than the one they had jacksonville to go ten and six. I'm sorry eleven seven and five and win the a._f._c. south. I think the texans and colts both have a chance to be competitive. Jacoby percent fan colt steak and take a step back in this first year with him. Maybe they're better next year. They go eight. I've got the texans just one game better at nine and seven despite these trades in recent days. Houston's houston's roster is still pretty. Damn good..

"Fired. In arizona defensive coordinator cleveland's got a lot not that you have to be impressed with they take another jump forward and go ten six tie the steelers for the a._f._c. north but i've got the steelers winning in a tiebreaker after that division and the browns not making the playoffs as a wildcard. I'll get to that in a moment the ravens. I've got seven and nine now. Here's the thing about the ravens. There may not be a more interesting team in the league to watch this year because john harbaugh's already told you we're going to play offense of football the way it's never been played in the n._f._l. And what that means is their quarterback. Lamar jackson is a running back mark to go by the way with mark ingram in that backfield. You'll you'll see trace mcsorley on the field as a runner as a receiver. They have few offense of weapons. I liked the the hayden hayden <unk> hearst pick from last year. Apparently he's not really they're they're goto tight end quite yet willie snead from last year but what they really lost was was a lot of players off that defense from a year ago that defense a year ago erin. I thought was one of the best defences of the last five ten years. No oh more terrell suggs no more c._j. Moseley no more eric weddell. I'm forgetting somebody to that. They also had a defensively <hes>. They've made a lot of changes inches defensively. I still think they will be good defensively in two thousand nineteen but not as good as they were a year ago gino who's starting at outside linebacker occur for them this year pernell mcphee so that goes to show. They lost some stuff from last year scene. They added earl thomas to the secondary marlon. Humphrey free is hopefully back in healthy tony jefferson's baller..

"Eight hundred eight in the a._f._c. East patriots win it at eleven five dolphins. Bring up the rear. I've got them as the worst team in football finishing two and fourteen. Let's move to the a._f._c. north. I just mentioned it to scott. I like the steelers a lot. I think they've got talent. I think losing antonio brown will ultimately be more beneficial for the team sure they're missing out on one of the most explosive players of the last seven eight years in the n._f._l. But they've got smith schuster. They've got james washington. They have have dante moncrieff now. They have james connor and i'll tell you what jalen samuels the kid from n._c. State that was drafted last year is a guy they love and a guy. Are they played late. They also drafted the guy from kentucky benny snell junior the big back. I liked him a lot and you've got ben. Still i liked the steelers a lot offensively. I think they're going to be much better than people thinking than defensively. I'm hearing nothing but rave reviews about devin bush junior. They picked him at michigan. He was not a guy cooley liked it all but apparently he has shown really well so far. Bud duprey is a star in the making t._j. Watsa baller. I like their team. I think pittsburgh wins the a._f._c. north with a ten six record now. I liked the browns too. Don't get me wrong. I do not have them making the playoffs. Yes i do however. Have the browns going ten in six. I think they're going to have a very good season and just barely missed the playoffs which i guess is sort of what happened last this year's well but you look at their roster right. Defensively you add alleviate vernon in sheldon richardson to a d line or a situation where you all already already had myles garrett. Myles garrett is in n._f._l. Defensive m._v._p. Type player. They're going to be really good defensively not mentioned mentioned denzil ward who is one of the best young corners in the game authenticity o b j jarvis landry and david juku together. I mean that's pretty damn good you know as a receiver core with tight end. Nick shove in the backfield and baker mayfield. You look at their roster. The only thing you question is is there coaching staff. Freddie kitchens you know is the head coach they hired. Steve wilks are after he got fired..

"You've seen it fifty five or something yeah fifty four and a half fifty five. What is the biggest ever ever. I don't know it'd be new mexico. Stink at beat by washington state like fifty eight seven so i guess they figure if you get beat by ben by that. What's alabama going yeah yeah i. I know we've seen fifty something before. I don't know that we've seen fifty five before. Maybe we have <hes> typically. When bam has it's been a huge favourite like this that you know they win like forty one to nothing or something like that like they don't even scored the total. These games are interesting because the over under total is sixty sixty. Four in the line is fifty five right now. That's a tough fit. You know if you want the if you went bam in the under <hes> it's tough tough puff squeeze there but i bet i bet the easiest bet his new mexico state doesn't score. Did you find erin biggest point spread over yeah. I believe savannah state played florida state in what year was this looks like twenty seventeen and it was seventy and a half really yeah. We'll savannah. State wasn't a division one team so we've been right exactly exactly i if you could find offshore lines when they like f._c._s. or what would like all right all right. Thanks for doing this appreciate it. I'll we'll talk to you later. Maybe we did. We lose him there. We lost him perfect timing though we lost him just in time for a guy that that you know has been so gracious with his time over the years coming on radio and on the podcast with me and how i mean how many times have we had issues with his phone many times over the years years. We didn't have one issue with his phone and when he finally did have an issue with his phone. We were done with them so perfect timing. I wanna finish up the show with the with some picks <hes>. I did this on on radio earlier. You just heard one of my picks with scott <hes> but i'm going to do a._f._c. Today i'll do n._f._c. n._f._c. tomorrow and when i finished with the n._f._c. we'll have our super bowl matchup and i'll give you my super bowl winner but here my a._f._c. picks all right. Let's get to these picks start in the a._f._c. The patriots are gonna win the a._f._c. east lebanon five is the record they lose gronk. They're still the best team team in that division but what i want to mention about that division or to other teams that i think are worthy of keeping an eye on. I think buffalo's got some talent and i think the jets have some talent first of all these were good defensive teams in two thousand eighteen buffalo in particular they at oliver from houston. I've heard nothing but rave. We've reviews about as oliver remember aaron. He was a guy that dropped a little bit because of attitude work ethic some of that stuff no one no one doubts he's talent as an interior defensive lineman you put him next to low to layla and jerry hughes you still had by the way to x. ex- redskins on that roster and alexander and trent murphy and then tremaine edmonds the first round pick in two thousand eighteen out of virginia tech..

"That's the best combo edge pass rushing threat in the league. They were good defensively last year. They just couldn't do anything on offense. I i of course now. That's why that's why. I was picking up denver. Mike asi draft pick up denver elsa kinda kinda kinda intel used to treat to win some leads pittsburgh it too. I think pittsburgh's going to be good. I agree i agree. I think i mean is <music>. As i'm sitting here talking to you i'm seeing tonio. Brown decided to tweet out something finds he got for for <hes> during training camp and <hes> he said the devil is ally. Everyone's gotta pay. I mean that guy is my god. You can have you can have them and and and and i'm not saying that rothlisberger like is it. I have no idea what role he played in. What went on in that relationship there. I mean braun has just teachers her many things that are just just not what adults do and there's no one that can tell him to stop like no l. He'll listen to no one no one. He's ungovernable the no. He's in charge of him. He's gonna tweet what he tweets. He's going to say what he says and so- pittsburgh. You get better when you lose a game like that will no. You're not as talented but i mean it's the situation better because you don't have somebody that makes everyone nuts pro. Maybe has to help elp. That's that's where it helps and the and the truth is they have talent wide receiver. They've got james washington. They got patty. Hi it'll be it'll be interesting. It'll be interesting to see what he does and and they're gonna chuck it all over the walk because that's what they do so. I don't know i mean it. Just it it. There's starting tomorrow. We've got games. You know that's that's all we want. Thank god yeah i i. I think that the raiders are the team that i watched. Some of the hard knocks. I haven't seen the last episode. It was insufferable to watch him by the way jon gruden was insufferable to watch but i think that's the team this year. I'm rooting for the most to lose at love to see them. Completely early fall flat on their ass including in that <hes> opening monday night game against our favorite team this year <hes> not including the redskins denver broncos who well. I'll be rooting for in the a._f._c. this year i. How did you do in winter's last week. I know we had a couple of the same games. I think i went one and to you do well. Two and three <hes> i gave out in nevada who won outright against purdue but <hes> i had liberty against syracuse they managed to fumble look inside that twenty which didn't help a team getting seventeen who else i gave georgia's southern. Their quarterback got hurt and they got beat by billion by l._s._u. Issue so it was. I made the point on the show. I don't love any of these kind of mandated to give picks 'cause as we do on thursdays so i'm looking at the board this this week. I don't love the board this week. Either be honest. We see i i. I'm surprised to have you. I i went through it last night there a couple of them that that reek like st friday night you know boise with that comeback and they're laying ten and a half to marshall that numbers come down from twelve marshall looks right to me missouri three who got <hes> who got beat <hes>. They're playing west virginia who barely beat j. m. u. In their land fourteen that seems like a lot yeah yeah. I mean look i mean i am getting a lot from clemson but clemson beats people billions. Did you see ah either one of you errands. You see the alabama line this week..

"Stocked. It has been short short that i i <hes> just on principle. <hes> outside of that like i don't know like i have no idea what garoppolo is with the niners. I'm just trying to go with teams. I don't i feel like our necessarily talked about the team. It will be the most interesting is cleveland just because how they went from being the the punchline of hard knocks a year ago to the favorites to win the a._f._c. north is just astounding <hes> but that guy kitchens their coach. I don't know if you pay attention to him. He's awesome. He's he's funnier than hell and he'll say anything. I haven't paid that much attention to him <hes> other than that one you listen. You'll like that one moment where he basically. We said if if anybody leaks anything to the media they'll be. They'll be fired no matter who they are so i. I'm wondering maybe i i don't. I think we've had this conversation together which is fine but i have been you. Don't call you. Don't call me. You have called me recently. I've been on denver forever. That is my. I just did my a._f._c. A._f._c. picks <hes> on the radio show and i'm going to do him here. When we get done denver's making the playoffs this year and i've already met their over a total. I bet i bet that as a future our <hes> this year <hes> i like. I don't know if they win the division but i think they'll they'll be in the postseason fangio. This was something interesting the john kind did this story about some of the former redskin assistance that are now head coaches that were on the shannahan staff la- flers mcveigh a kyle and then zac taylor off of mcvay staff and they were all asked about the guy that was the most difficult guy to game plan for and into beat with their offense. All of them said vic fangio and that team defensively has ridiculous talent chub chub and ron miller as you mentioned..

"Feel like he's going to be a valuable pass catcher and that redskin offense. We both always said that because we you bet sports. We actually had a perspective that people who didn't bet it just didn't have and it was it was it was an edge in sort of you know analyzing using in talking about sports. I've always felt that way and look. I've been in fantasy leagues forever. I had to be at work and i think i've told you i've won it twice. With auto picking the original roster now i tweaked the roster's after they were auto picked <hes> but ended up but but cared enough to tweak a week rosters well i mean i don't wanna be completely humiliated by starting five guys that are on a bi week. You know but three guys that were injured injured but i've i've never quite it's never come close to the the rush in the pleasure. I get from actually wagering on a game. I'm like it's not comparable. Don't tell me that they're kind of parent idol well. When i won the league that i won last year for the <hes> you know for the whatever i got for. It absolutely did not really okay. What did you win how much we could talk off line about the check that i got like. I'm not gonna i think he told me and you don't wanna share. That's gregory christmas. That's great. You know what let's try. Let's try to hit a little two or three team money line partly on sunday and see what that pays <hes>. Who do you like in the n._f._l. This year is there. I mean other than the usual suspects. Is there a team that you you like to. I mean we know every year. They're going to be four or five of them that nobody's expecting thing to be good. That will be good. Who do you like denver. Go my god. We haven't talked about this. That's my team denver. I think their defense events is going to be nasty fangio get he gets there that guy chop that they <hes> you team him up with miller. I think flacco is a perfect quarterback in a team has got had a good defense. <hes> like denver denver denver's the team that that no one will talk flat goes become he's talking about. He's <hes> <hes> a bomb in. I mean we've you and i've talked about this for years. Whether it was on the various shows we've done <hes> that he's actually actually quite capable. <hes> you know superstar quarterback now but he's he's quite capable denver's a team that i think nobody has said boo about that. I that i think could be good. I think i interested in in what percent does in in a second shot with this coal team that i think talented not as <hes> more talented that people probably realize keep took all the reps in the off-season frank reich made that point so it's like all of a sudden oh i guess t. Why hilton what he's not going to catch a pass because jacoby presents the quarterback that they've been working together the entire off season. <hes> i feel like the colts are stocked..

"Right. It's it's been going on forever so this is this is just the newest incarnation attention again yeah. The holdouts always been a part of sports in the n._f._l. In particular i i i think that what you're right you. Have you have to fill the content requirement if you're doing a show if you're doing programming <hes> and you can't just sit there the entire time and say hey remember that incredible edible kansas city rams game on monday night last year. Let's go back and watch some of that together even though personally i'd rather do that on youtube than sit there in watch you know somebody report on whether or not melvin gordon's going to report but <hes> but i think <hes> i think you and i are cut from the same cloth when it comes to this we just love the games and we like talking about the games that we've just watched or the game that were about to watch each that sports and i also think that you get to a point in life. Where all the other stuff. It just seems like silly that people are all wrapped up into it. I couldn't agree more. I mean it's it and it becomes difficult. If you're if you're guys like you and me because i mean the games the game and and you know look there's there's stuff about it. That's interesting the ansari things but it's just it win. That's all there. Is you know that is the entree. I mean that is that is the you know the garnish or something that's fine but if that's all there is on the plate it becomes it becomes harder really conjure up appetite for it yeah i. I mean none of it. You know we've had to deal with the trent williams situation here all summer. What's gonna happen with that. Well dangelo hall who just launched a podcast with aaron hawksworth last week said zero chance talked to trent zero chance will ever play for the team again and then the next win yet as in yesterday talked to trent and there's a you know i think he'll be back sooner rather than later what he's done in two podcasts i think they're doing are they doing air in a weekly podcast. Ask the two of them together something like that right yeah. I believe it's weekly so he's gotten headlines for both of his podcasts good for him. I don't know if he's right or wrong <hes> but but at that situation it's weird scott in that a lot of these situations that happen. You have a sense of each side's position. There's been not one comment from trent williams or his agent and not one comment from anybody in the redskins front office during this entire standoff standoff not one you can't find bruce allen sang other than back in june i thi i've talked to trent. I know what trent thinks. I know what he's what would he thinks in what he feels. Nothing's come at trent melts. Come through surrogates like d hall like santana moss <hes> we've we've heard some of that <hes> <hes> but nothing directly from any of these people so it's really hard to figure out what the hell's going on you here from williams you know surrogates the people that <hes> you essentially think that he's speaking through its this you know tragic medical situation that the team has and yet when you talk to people behind the scenes at redskins park there seething because they don't think they have a medical staff problem in fact their training staff won the award last year for the best training meaning staff in the n._f._l. So it's been hard to figure out i. I don't know i would have traded him. I would've taken the offer if the patriots were interested in offering. I i would would've waited <hes> i. I wouldn't taken that one but i would have waited for whatever houston offered. I think houston probably went to the redskins. I <hes> before going going to miami for tunsil and given what they offered tunsil they. Probably you know we're talking. I in third or something like that to the redskins. I would've taken it. Yeah i mean i it's a clearly i mean houston. It's been fascinating..

"They have the right to make that decision. I think they would have mistake. I think it would have been a mistake to do that. I think it would have been malpractice not to listen listen. That's that's really what i think with respect to the the front office if they weren't listening to offers. I can't imagine that if houston called up and you're on the other end and what are you offering. Why wouldn't you ask that question. You're not accepting anything. Why wouldn't you want to know what someone's offering. The fact that houston got tunsil. Maybe the reason these stories started to come out yesterday that now trent realizes he ain't getting traded like the texans were the last the the the patriots were possibility but but isaiah wind started to show something early in camp and then they dealt for two backup tackles so they were out the texans needed somebody they did not have a left tackle. They've got to shawn watson and once they made the deal for tunsil. Maybe for trent. He's like will now. There's nobody to trade me to even if they were willing to trade me <hes> in even if they got a great offer. There's nobody left. I don't want to miss out on game checks and maybe that's accelerating rating the process of a return or at least initiating the process of return dangelo hall said something else on this podcast that i didn't hear until actually after the radio show today. I wanna play it to you because it's insight <hes> into a conversation. He claims he had with bruce allen about the possibility that the redskins could have traded trent williams listen to this part. Yes so many different layers to this. <hes> that that like. I said what made his team better <hes>. I will give you lips into bruce's mind right now. I asked him those questions. Questions and bruce simply said you don't ask for trade and many games you ask for trade in january february. You know before agency before the draft you know that's when you as a trade so that was his his comeback. If that's catch true and i have no reason not to think that it isn't true <hes> that's a bad answer man. That's a bad answer. In fact some of the craziest blockbuster trades the biggest fleecing happen this time of year from now until the trade deadline where teams get desperate desperate and they end up overpaying for players. If you cut off the possibility of trading a player when you know the draft ends and you get to mini camp and you get to teasing you get to training camp and you got a player. That's holding out and you're you've got some sort of you. Know <hes> uniform policy policy of we only make trades you know between january and april well. That's stupidity. That makes no sense to me. Look at what miami just got back for laremy tunsil. Are you kidding me. Tonsils a good player. He's a potential really good player down the road. My god did they strike gold there. Look at what what the raiders got from the cowboys last year for amari cooper before the trade deadline if the redskins were offered a first and third or first third and fourth for trent brent williams from houston. Do you think they were going to offer that in january or february. I don't think they would've i think you get closer to the regular season. They think they've got a team that can contend and and they don't have a left tackle they get desperate and they over pay and they essentially get fleeced by the dolphins. The redskins could have been in that position of fleecing the texans. That's a bad policy man bad policy. You only make sure you don't ask for trade at mini camp. You don't ask for trade in training training camp..

Trent Williams wants to be traded

"Okay so this situation with Trent Williams apparently he's upset with the way the medical staff handle them and maybe part of it too is this contract but he's looking for a trade out of Washington and the fact that part of it has to do with the medical staff how bad is this to look for that Washington franchise the really that I mean not that they've had too many good books over the years but it's you know this is a guy who's been their best player probably during his entire career there and to not be able to keep them in town for a really any reason is of that book and it's an especially that look when you consider how many injuries there that just along the top of the line over the past years I mean they haven't done a year without a serious offense one injury and I can't even remember how long is this something that's known around the league because you had former players coming out sticking up for Trent Williams is it known that the Washington Redskins medical staff is I I mean I don't want to criticize them because I don't know them personally but is it kind of like known around the league that maybe it's a subpar staff I don't know the anyone on the medical staff personally either but I think just observationally you can say it's a subpar staff the sun the amount of injuries that they've had over the past years and especially along office want doesn't seem like they can keep those guys in particular

"Be N._F._l.. Teams are in training camp but that doesn't mean every player is we've got hold doubts in key spots Saints Michael Thomas Chargers Melvin Gordon who else Yana can gakugei Jacksonville Trent Williams in Washington and of course Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas the big one big name that everyone's watching out there in oxnard California all guys that <hes> are heading into either the final year of their deal or wants some sort of adjustment on their contract before camp or the season starts so we gotta go through all these the person who helps us make sense of all this stuff is our own Adam schefter so Adam Una make this pretty simple. I will give you a name and you tell us the latest on that player. Start with Ezekiel Elliott of of the cowboys will Zeke Elliott has not shown up in Oxnard California side of the Dallas Cowboys training camp and they're going through physical today. They are basically supposed to be attending a team meeting and there's no sign of Zeke right now which tells you soup that it looks like at the very least Zeke Watch is underway and it certainly feels like this is going to be a hold out while the two sides tried to see if they can come up with a new deal for Zeke Elliott but no signs of him California this yet and no signs as of November by the chargers camp right now then this one is going to go on for a while the two sides basically have their own stances. There have differing pains. Nobody Gordon's value. I don't see this getting south anytime this summer I I think this one looks like it has a real chance to go into the regular season. It's time for Austin Ecuador and Justin Jackson and no Michael Thomas in New Orleans still you take the reading receiver off that team. The saints have offered to make them the highest a wide receiver receiver in football. It sounds like he wants to get to a very high threshold north of twenty million dollars a year. We'll see what they can get there where the saints a willing to budge but Michael Thomas wants to become not just a highest eight wide receiver in football but the highest paid wide receiver football by a long shot right now while we wait for Julio Jones deal to potentially come in later this summer Adam sit tight we we'll come back to you as as needed. We're going to go back and talk about Ezekiel Elliott though how important is even to the cowboys he's led the N._F._l.. Rushing yards per game in each of his first three seasons the only other players to do that in the ninety nine year history of the N._F._l.. or Jim Brown and Earl Campbell perhaps you've heard of them. Both of those guys are in the hall of fame name safe to say that few running backs have ever had a better start to their careers then has Ezekiel Elliott

"I, I would prefer them to actively try to trade him if he was Encino that he didn't wanna play under the current deal. Let's, let's by the way, just both for the purposes of this conversation because it sounds like we're in agreement say that we think this is more about a new deal than it is about how a medical situation was handled. None not suggesting that he was. Exaggerating, or making it up. It may have been part of a long list of reasons that he wants you know, something new, but the money the new deal is at the center of this. We both agree on that, right? Yeah. I think the medical stuff. I I'm certainly not discounting it. I I don't know that he would really vow never to play for the Redskins again. I think if we get this temper, and he's still on the roster. And the and the yes to play to get his game. Check one. I would expect them to be on the field. I guess, before we completely you know put push the medical stuff to the side. I'm extra. I don't wanna push it away. I think it's important port of the story, but, but I do think the money is the bigger part. Yeah. So I wanted to just so we can focus on like the conversation about how this gets resolved. But one thing that I'm curious about as it relates to the medical part of this. And I don't know if you have an answer to this, or not, what exactly what specifically is the thing that made him unhappy if something really legitimately did make him unhappy or uncomfortable. About the way the tumor on his scalp was handled. Don't have that answer. I don't believe anybody. Trent Williams, does gig Rudin Jagran talked about maybe a problem with the diagnosis, or maybe the timing of the diagnosis, I, I kinda have to working theories, and they're completely speculative by me. One is that. Tread doesn't understand why nobody saw this growth and Phil became a bigger deal required surgery. That's one two is that none of this was talked about until the combine and the only reason it became a topic was Trent posted a, a Instagram story of picture of himself going in for surgery with the on his scout. And, and that's what tip myself and other reporters ought to asking Jay Gruden about it at the combine and gruden's comments were, I don't wanna say dismissive, but, but not they didn't make the matter, seem overly serious. And I wonder if Trent didn't think that team. Was was putting this in the in the medical capacity deserved. And you know, if I was about to get something on my head operated, I would care greatly about that issue. So those are my two theories. I truly don't know. I am not a doctor or a medical expert, but those are the two things that look easy enough for me to point at you like, oh I could see that bothering somebody. All right. So let's get back to Trent Williams wanting a new deal would a modest extension something that is far from a blockbuster headlining deal. Would that satisfy him? Extend you're talking about adding years, adding more money to the remaining. Yeah. Adding a short extension with more money more Garrett. You know what, let me make it easy. Adding more.

"And I think that one part of the quote where he says, quote, Trenton has been a valuable play player for us, and that's why we signed him to the contract. He has. I think that says a lot, and it says a lot. I don't know what the tone was, and we'll get that from JP. But this would be in line with what I heard he's not interested in talking new deal with Trent Williams. And I would guess that Trent. Williams. Isn't that pleased that the team doesn't want to talk to him about a new deal and perhaps the medical frustration, which was reported by Jason lockenfora last week is a legitimate frustration. I'm not suggesting that it isn't. But it also could be a convenient add on to the bigger frustration which is wanting more money. And you know, from Trent standpoint, the more you throw in there that makes the team look bad. Perhaps you either. Get your deal or get somewhere else where someone is willing to give you a new deal. My personal opinion. On this hasn't changed either. I would not give him a blockbuster extension, if it's a modest extension, maybe but I'm not giving him a huge new deal. If I really believe that he won't report to camp and this is all about, you know, you know. A new deal that he feels like he deserves. I'm trying to trade him trying to train them right now. Actively trying to trade him, you know, if this is more than him just letting out or letting off some steam, you know because of the new deals that were signed in the off season. I you know, that, that's one thing if I believe, if I believe it's about letting off steam that I'm gonna sit back and I'm going to be patient. I'm gonna be patient anyway, if on the team, but I'm actively putting out there that Trent Williams is on the trade bloc. I'm gonna find out what he's worth now and I'm also going to obviously simultaneously worry about replacing him which is not easy who replaces him to good question. We talked about Donald Penn being available, but between now in mid training camp someone with experience, playing left tackle will become available. It's not going to be Trent Williams. What could you get for Trent Williams? I'm not sure I can't imagine though. I cannot imagine it would be less than a second round pick Cooley said initially on Friday, a third rounder. I think I talked him off that I can't imagine it would be less than a second teams that might be interested. Well, first of all, anybody needing a seven time Pro Bowl tackle would be interested in a thirty one year old before this next season starts Cleveland could use a left tackle. They believe they're a bit of a contender. They have cap space. The bears could use a left tackle. There are other teams out there that don't have as much cap space, but would love Trent Williams. You know there are teams out there that drafted offense of linemen that aren't sure about their rookie offensive linemen. And some of those guys like Dillard and Howard tightest Howard Jonas Williams. They might be right tackles to start their careers. So maybe Trent Williams would still be a possibility for those teams one more thing on this, and I don't know that I've said this so far. The Redskins weren't prepared for this if they had been. They may have addressed free agency differently. They may have addressed the draft a bit differently looking for Trent Williams's replacement. Eric flowers was not an answer for the off chance that Trent Williams may have wanted a new deal this off season. Eric flowers, more likely than not isn't an answer to anything right now. He's not a tackle..

"That can't afford to lose leadership because every time they sign a free agent or trade for somebody, they become the new leader in the locker room. Trent Williams is legitimately one of the leaders of the team and they just can't afford to lose much leadership. I agree with that. I mean right now, there are a handful of players that you look at your like they as a fan at a team. I think they make me comfortable. You know, Jon Allen. Mattaya Nitis Brandon share Trent Williams on that list. No doubt. But, you know, you don't have a lot of them on the team yet, that you're comfortable, you know, like you said the other day, how often the new guy ends of being the leader team leader red cells you that they don't have any wash was counting on Reuben foster to be one of the leaders of the team. That's that's, that's so absurd. I'm surprised on social media. The reaction after the news broke yesterday. What was I'd say I mean in my social media accounts, I'd say the majority Redskins fan said, get rid of them trade him. I don't want him. I think I mean that's where I was on social media just checked some of my responses because I we, we didn't have. This story when we finish the right warning the lockenfora piece, and I think the, the significant majority is, they should have moved on. You're, you're right. You're they should move on with him before the draft will the draft. But now they've got to move on from him if he really and truly doesn't wanna play for the Redskins. You've gotta train them. Yeah. You know you don't want him to be holding out. He doesn't want to hold out. I don't think you would. I mean again, I don't think he told out. That's a lot of money to leave on the table. I agree. I do agree. But I think the Redskins the Redskins it's one of those situations where they could get this is the time if he's not a big part of your long term plan, now's the time to try to get something for them. But there is no long term plan for Jay Gruden. Yeah. This, this season is just going to be so interesting. There's so much like, are we entering J gruden's final season? If so why is he the guy? That's developing Haskins or not playing Askins. What's Kevin o'connell's role is going to be the next head coach. What about the personnel department? What about, you know, there's a lot, I mean, and then just the individual, you know, this should be the year, the third year that Jon Allen turns into a monster, if he's going to turn into a monster this should be that year Doron pain second year, he should be significantly improved. I as has the new deal like defensively. I can't wait as I've mentioned over and over again to see Montas wet play because apparently he is just embarrassed flowers day in and day, I was at that saying anything I was at. And I know you call me told me did you see anything interesting? Well, I could tell you what. It's wayne. Haskins case keenum, they look like NFL quarterback exudes will. I mean I mean when they throw the. Ball. Haskins just a big dude. Yeah. But when they throw the ball, they look like NFL quarterbacks house at, you know, I'm not the quarterback for like so many people who covered his team are you can tell you all the nuances about how good they are. But twain Haskins looks like an NFL quarterback. So this case keenum, but there are players this year. I mean, I'm excited to see Landon Collins play. I think he's a really good player. I enjoyed watching them play in New York. I'd like to see..

"He's going to be healthy for sixteen games, which is probably the answer to that is probably no or not, you need him for the twelve games that he's gonna be healthy, desperately, you need them. But you can't put him in you. You can't with two years left on a deal you can't succumb to the pressure in the lack of leverage for a guide. It's gonna turn thirty one years old with an injury history. I just think it's bad precedent. And again, he's got them right in the crosshairs here because they don't have to your point. It's a good one, and I made it earlier, it's part of his leverage that they've got a rookie quarterback. They've also again, let's not underestimate the fact that while they have a veteran quarterback and keenum, he's totally new to the system, you know in. Assist them last year where he was new took thirty four. Sacks fifteenth in the league somewhere like that. Not top ten worst, but took a lot of big sacks. Remember a couple at the end of big games and you have to you have to protect them. But I personally at this point in maybe I am. I am influenced by my longer term view on this team where it was at the end of this year, or end of twenty eighteen in the beginning of this year where I would prefer a start over strategy that if you invest a bunch of money into Trent Williams, and now the deal goes until he's thirty six years old, and he's the highest payed left tackle in the game and his cap hit his eighteen nineteen million for the first couple of years or, or towards the middle in the back end of the contract. It's a lot of money for a player who isn't guaranteed to be there, every Sunday. He tries, there's no doubting that he tries to be there. Unusually usually is there even if he's banged. Up. But who you also have to say, you know, he's gonna miss a couple of games is going to be hampered a couple of games and turning thirty one years old. Not that at thirty one thirty two thirty three he still can't be one of the top two or three left tackles in the game, you know four or five left tackles in the game. But towards the end of that contract, maybe not, I think it would be a dangerous precedent for them. I think that they should I do think they should stare him down on this. I don't think Trent Williams wants to give up an eleven million dollar based salary for twenty nineteen. I think that they certainly stare them down into training camp. And see how you know how steadfast how much he can. He can really do it. I you, you certainly before you pay him a record breaking a contract extension. You certainly explore the trade market, you absolutely explore the trade market. You also by waiting and not succumbing right now. You may have other options in the tackle market as you get to training camp. I mean, here's the big thing he sitting out OTA's right now. Well, it's many excuse me, minicamp. If he doesn't show up at the end of July, then I think you start considering it right now, let them lose a little bit of the OT money or whatever, it's not that big a deal and you certainly don't panic right now, based on now you can't you gotta you gotta you gotta hold tight here, and work through it in look, maybe, maybe somewhere in the middle between a record breaking contract extension, and something that would be truly less truly impact without impact. Maybe there's something in the middle that would work for the team and worked for him. Maybe it's also shorter term extension. That's one thing working for him. Apparently the aligned did not look good yesterday who they have, they don't have anybody really exact sheriff isn't worth, right? Exactly apparently. Eric flowers just looked absolutely pathetic. Made everyone. Look pro bowler against him is what the reports were out of camp yesterday. Yeah, I mean I this is part of what he's obviously seeing right now in that provides a lot of leverage for. All right. Thanks to Aaron, thanks to Brad Johnson for joining us Tommy's with us tomorrow, have an NBA game three recap. We'll do a lot more Friday..
