"So that one, I'll put up number two. I like that one a little bit better than the rockers. I think the spiders make the most sense, but if you're going outlandish, the KYW's not and I'm I'm saying that one's pretty good, but. Next up. Everybody's throwing it out there. A lot of the locals as well. The Cleveland Buckeyes this one I don't understand okay, 'cause I'm a big football fan. I'm a big college football fan, and the Ohio State Buckeyes pretty much own that nickname now I understand you have the lsu tigers and the Clemson Tigers in two big time programs or big time, organizations can have the same nickname. It's just. Just a color scheme with the scarlet and gray in Columbus or read and silver, whatever the heck it is there for the Ohio State Buckeyes I'm a little bit of a Michigan Fan so. That's why I say that ingest, so you will have state fans don't hate me out or do whatever they either way getting the comments. It's fine, but that's what ball we're talking. Baseball the Cleveland Buckeyes. The reason this place to is, it was the Negro. League it was the team in Cleveland for the Negro. League from forty two to fifty, so the Cleveland Buckeyes have been a thing in the city before and could be again. A lot of people would enjoy that more than the spiders. I think being so close to Columbus Ohio State Buckeyes. The Cleveland Buckeyes, both being in the same state I don't know if we want to. To overdo it there on the buckeyes nickname the next couple. I threw in here the first couple I've seen out there on social media bit more prevalent, these last, few or my own individual ones. That I'm looking to add here to this to the list. The first one would be the battle hawks I just like the XFL, these next to or from the xfl I was watching it. I enjoyed the nickname I don't really. Really like the roughnecks or the defenders or the renegades when it comes to Cleveland in baseball I really wasn't vibe and when it comes to those nicknames, but the Cleveland. Battle Hawks I. Kinda liked, and I liked it for the saint. Louis Battle Hawks as well I. think that's an underrated nickname. It could potentially get some buzz in Cleveland there. Let's go the Cleveland Battle Hawks versus the Minnesota twins yes, see that one's got. got a little bit of a buzz to it, so I liked that one above Buckeyes, buckeyes would certainly win in a popular poll next up. You've got the vipers. I like the Florida team from the XFL. The vipers thought that was good use of a nickname, not a lot of vipers out there. Maybe it's a little bit too far off. When it comes to a professional team, they tend not to go the animal route? Or you know the Griffin's. They don't go that way when it comes to professionals and kind of make believe style of things where you go. Vipers kind of taken a snake I thought about the dragons. The Seattle dragons from the XFL. CLEVELAND DRAGONS CLEVELAND VIPERS I like the Cleveland Battle Hawks. I like the Cleveland kyw's or the Cuyahoga hs, and then I liked the Cleveland. spiders potentially beam the top options there in Cleveland, so it'll be interesting to see if these conversations ultimately go anywhere. This is the first time that ownership has really been open and honest stated. Yes, we are going to have these discussions. Yes, this is something we're looking into potentially doing. Doing here once again. This isn't something that's going to happen overnight. There was a ton of financial responsibility tied to discussions and decisions like this. You have to re merchandise everything you have to remark it everything and you basically have to test if it's going to go well, because if you go from the Indians to something like the vipers that nobody likes you could potentially lose some of those common fans who just? Enjoyed the nostalgia of the Indians in the team. It's been since one thousand, nine hundred fifteen, so. It's interesting as well because the Atlanta braves. Haven't had any discussion they've come out and basically said Hey, they are not considering a name change at this time. Yes, we understand everything that's going on paraphrasing for the braves here, but at this time there are bigger problems. Bigger issues were not looking at the name. Change Right now as well as I wrote down here. The Florida State seminoles they've seen some pressure in the past, but it hasn't come back around yet. I haven't heard it. Be-. Become an issue as we're discussing NCWA. NCWA football returning this fall, the two of them that really are being pushed. Are the Cleveland Indians and the Washington Redskins in the National Football League. So you guys listening out there? Let me know in the comments. You guys got to let me know which one you like the best hit five star rating writer review say Dude I love the Cleveland Cuyahoga so I think that's great nickname or I hate you and I I hate Michigan so the Cleveland Buckeyes is the way we're rolling. I'm. I'm fine with either one I'll read them here. On the show. We can have some fun and interactive as well as on social media. If you WANNA DM me direct message me on their. Let's chat. Let's have some fun. Let's go back and forth, and let's see what nickname ultimately we think. Cleveland should use moving forward, but that'll wrap it up here. For the second segment of the MC. Baseball podcast brought to you by the MC podcast network. We'll pause now for word from one of. Of Our sisters shows one of our sponsors, but when we come back, we're going to talk about fantasy baseball and the impact that sixty games this having talked about some prospects who can make a difference now not only on the field, but as well in fantasy baseball they could impact fantasy maybe more than they could impact on the field, so that'll be a fun discussion here when we get back, but for now I'm your host Kevin Mahalick. We're GONNA pause. This is the GMC.

Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher David Price Says He Won’t Play In 2020 Due To Pandemic

"Pitcher David Price will not play this season because of concerns over the Corona virus pandemic. The five time All Star became the latest player to opt out, posting Saturday on Twitter that he wouldn't take part. In the 60 game season, scheduled to begin on July 23rd. His announcement comes a day after Angel Storm Mike Trout said he was not comfortable with the current climate and might not play trout on why, with a child on the way he has for now. Decided to come to camp and play. We want to play. It's gonna come down to how safe we're gonna be. If there's an outbreak, er something happens in the next few weeks. He definitely got it. I got it. I got it reconsider. You know, it's just there's a lot of questions I gotta do. Obviously, they saw I love baseball, but I gotta do is right for my family. Sometimes, you know, Majority Tiger, do everything with my family. You know, it's going to be tough decision. If something happens up down the road and like price, Braves right hander Felix Hernandez has opted out of the MLB. A season for the same reason.

Could 60 Games Mean a Bad Team From Last Year Will Be Your 2020 World Series Champion?

"What to expect with baseball's return, and that's where I start okay. Baseball's back and you are what you are angry. It took this long fair. You're indifferent because you already hated it or I guess that's really in different. If you hate the game and you don't care, it's even coming back and you just made fun of it the whole time during this public display of not being able to figure out okay I. Get that one, too, but there's probably a lot of us is gonNA. Throw it on now. The problem is baseball should have been back before. Let's say what a week before the NBA. NBA gets to sing rolling and I don't know how much crossover there is between NBA and baseball fan I'd imagine there's probably more crossover between the NFL and the NBA Fan, but who cares whatever we got this thing back and I. Still Really like baseball and I always thought it was going to happen. There's a specific reason. Why was finally work out? No matter what version of what we have get to that and a little bit because there was a couple of reporters that we're actually seeing like as it's probably over probably doomed. Okay then it's definitely coming back now. Because remember the rules when you're on television, it sounds a lot better. If you're an opinion, person sports saying it's the death of baseball, and I'm now going to write the verbal obituary in. It's never coming back. WHOA, that's a good clip makes a really good video. Good sound bite. Let's play that on the radio. Show a little bit later today, or you could be on the desk and say. They'll probably figure it out, and that's not as exciting, but it's the accurate on the. I would say. It's the lane that I've been in this entire time, so let's take a close. Look at what we have. 'cause look out, folks I the Internet last night and I looked up some baseball stuff. We got sixty games normal playoffs. Thank God good on that a little bit later. But what is sixty games me? Baseball's weird. You can have bad teams. Put together a decent sixty games and could team go forty and twenty. Sure, but I think a Lotta. These teams are going to be right around five, hundred, thirty, five, twenty five, and then you're going link. Think how little! The discrepancy could be look at how the playoff chase ends now in September with the advancement of you know the different kind of playoff alignments they have and I don't like some of the extra game stuff, but it all has been really really exciting. The last few years of what we've seen in more than last five years of what we've gotten out of the baseball plaster incredible incredible. Scenes, finishes and all sorts of drama. In scares me a little bit that the product has been great in the postseason, and if not really helping the rest of the months, but if you look at and I did this I look back at some of the worst teams in baseball interlock. Place all right Toronto Toronto. At one point was twenty nine and fifty two, and then they went twenty, two and twenty over forty two game stretch. That's a sixty seven. When teen played two games over five hundred for Forty Games San Francisco. You Ask all right here. You Go last year twenty six and thirty eight at one point, and then ended up at fifty, five and fifty three, so they want on that Mastro. That's a forty four game stretch were San. Francisco played twenty nine. Nine and fifteen baseball they were a seventy seven and eighty-five team, but more folks I tried the best I could find from their stretches, fourteen and thirteen. That was an awful awful baseball team. Remember Seattle last year against smaller sample. They started the year thirteen and to remember although Seattle tweets they were twenty, five and thirty five, and that was a bad baseball team. How about this one? Miami was ten thirty one on May Fifteenth, then they stretched it to forty one in sixty three. That's a bad baseball team that from Miami. That's a bad baseball team. That from the middle of May to the end July played thirty one and thirty two baseball. That's crazy, and then you have Detroit. Who was actually eighteen and twenty, and if you forgot how many games Detroit one last year I don't blame you because I did to the Tigers in forty seven games and I couldn't find anything that was thirty and thirty over sixty game stretch, but over forty they were two games under five hundred, so we could have some really weird stuff. Now you could have a cy young winner be six and four. You could have with the second base being occupied an extra inning games. The unintended part of that is we could just have a walk fest, and all these extra things, but I'm not sitting here clamoring for. For more extra innings, even though I used to like it when I watch the Games, I can also understand that basically these managers now don't even WanNa. Play them because they'd rather not burn out there. They'd rather take the loss that day. Burn out their arms for an entire week. At least that's what they tell us. All the time is somebody hits four hundred. No, thank you by the way nobody's hit three fifty cents Josh Hamilton like ten years ago. We've had four years over the past four years. Excuse me, five hitters have hit twenty home runs over the first sixty games, so look at maybe twenty. Twenty being. You're leading home run number, and there's all sorts of other things how you're gonNA. Use Your roster with thirty, two twenty eight to twenty six. You'RE GONNA. Call up different players, and how you're gonNA use your

Tightening your belt? How to decide which streaming TV service to cancel.

"With me, senior editor Shelby Brown who was a nice run down to the various streaming services out there, and why should drop each one of them? Thanks for joining me shelby. Thanks for having me again so before we get into the different services We can get the details in a bit Do you have any general suggestions for how you would approach things when you know balancing your budget with all these various streaming services because? For a lot of people, there are different shows that we like. Those shows are found on different services. So there's no. There's no one size fits all options. So, what would you suggest a folks? Generally looking at this landscape. I. Definitely examined why you want that service Aaron. What's appealing to you about that service Lake I had to stop myself from immediately subscribing to HBO. Max Number One just because of the giant explosion of publicity around it when it first came out and kind of the the foam. Oh the fear of missing out I think that can be a big drought services. Especially the new wines I can imagine. That's GONNA. Be when peacock comes out. They'll be a huge drama that 'cause It's new and attractive, but with HBO Max I wanted to subscribe to it. Because, I immediately fell in love with their classic films collection, but I have to ask myself if that's all that I am going to watch, there is always stat worth my money so i. think that that's a question that you should ask yourself before you subscribe to something Dutch. I think that's a that's a good concept to keep in. Mind is considering there are only so many hours in the day and so much time we have to watch stuff so even if in principle it's something you WanNa. have access to your right. It may not be something you'd necessarily need. so let's let's. Let's run through the different service. Let's start with the granddaddy of the mall in the one that is basically ubiquitous, and that's net flicks. It almost is it conceivable to drop athletes. Are there reasons why you'd WanNa? Drop this service on. I think that Netflix's kind've where we started with that. You know binging idea, and whether actively watching it or it's just on for background noise of course there are Netflix's originals which typically Garner a lot of buzz on social media like tiger king came out recently so mostly I think if you're not interested in staying on top of new shows, Netflix's might not be for you or watching the old classics like the Office or Parks and recreation or win. Friends was on there before Hbo Max. And, some of those shows have disappeared from Netflix so that you Kinda lose access to some of that old library. Right All right well, what about Disney plus? As simple as it sounds. I think you should access me, plus you're not into Disney or marvel. Disney plus is a mistrial Jake ride with the vaulted films and the Disney channel original movies from the late nineties early two thousands, and the Buzzword, the original shows Lake Amanda Laurean and the Star Wars films again the marvel films, but again if you're not a fan of the Disney or the marble films, you might not want to invest Disney plus. That's the thing. There could be something he said about subscribing to the services. Timed with shows. You love right like what we know. The mental Lawrence coming back with. Subscribe to it for Laurie Withdraw Fortunately for one of the for these services, there are like cancellation fees. It's not as sticky as it used to be with cable service. You can hop on hop off and that's that that's a good benefit. You can sort of time out if you really want to be strategic about it. These different services right and we've seen those trends win. Game of thrones was on with with HBO. We would see the spike in the viewership. Go up right before the season started, and then we would see plummet after this season would go off so. That and as transition HBO match what? Why would you WANNA keep. Why would you WANNA trump? Hbo Max Hbo Max Really came out swinging at lines with a huge catalog. Of TV shows movies. Its price is on the higher side though compared to other services. It's fifteen dollars a month. so I win necessarily invest in Matt if you're looking for more budget, friendly option an. An Hbo Max Might Not Be the one that you want to subscribe to. Because you can't stream HDR, yet or on Roku or Amazon devices, but it's still new, so that could change in a couple of months or next year. The Amazon Prime Video Amazon. Prime video is kind of a two for one because you get the discount with ecommerce site as well. The platform more centered around movies that you can rent by watch for free but the service definitely puts a focus on its original shows like flea, bad marvelous Mazel and modern love, so if you're more fan of mainstream TV shows, you might WanNa drop trends at you. This is like the one that is kind of default to your point. Right like I am a prime member because I did the shipping services and the videos Kevin Extra. About who is probably one of the more pure play, TB streaming services out there I. who if you don't care about keeping up with? The current mainstream shows one of my favorite parts about the service is. how quickly uploads new episodes after the air on cable, but you can also get the live TV plan for fifty five dollars a month that acts like a capable replacement to watch shows in real time. A downside to that for example, if you wanted to catch up on all the seasons of Grey's anatomy, only season sixteen available on Hulu whereas all the seasons are available on Netflix, so that's kind of a catch, and then lastly apple. TV Plus Apple TV plus has a lot of original shows that were a significant drought of the service like the morning show and. You can like all your streaming services to your apple TV apple TV plus doesn't have a library of license chosen movies. It all so doesn't always release full seasons of shows at one. So, J, if none of the new shows clear interest after the fruit trial. Don't keep it. I subscribed to TV plus for the free trial and watched the servant. I thought it was really good. I'm probably will pick it back up when a second season comes out, so that's always option.

Will Brinson on the PGA Tour

"Well with the PGA tour. Starting tomorrow wanted to bring on. My Guy Will Brinson as promised at will Brinson on twitter. He's host of the pick. Six podcast I've been on that. It's an excellent show. I enjoy it tremendously, but he also is really into Goff. He's really into baseball. Is really you know a lot of things before we get to the PGA tour or golf? Stuff will let me just ask you this. The I don't remember what it was called, but Tiger Woods Phil Mickelson you know. peyton manning Tom Brady. The ratings that did and the money that it generated I. Guess my first reaction was how much of that is because it's the only thing going on during the virus, and how much of it is because people thought it was cool. Just Watch one group of. Football players and a couple guys go like I. You know I almost thought of like if I'm tiger woods and Phil Mickelson like, why do I need to play these other events like every like three or four times a year? Get a couple, musicians, or you know movie, stars or athletes do one of these deals and a boatload of money from it. Yeah I mean I think. The ratings are definitely Ross a result of the pandemic to to a larger extent I. Mean Look at you know even like. The the last dance was awesome, and it was absolutely must watch television, but the ratings were not. I don't think like real last dance ratings if we actually have sports going on, we're not all sort of cooped up in the house so I i. think that does make a difference. People are itching for some real sports, but yeah, we look you're talking about putting four of the biggest sole celebrity athletes on the planet in a in a in a golf match. People are going to be interesting to see what happens. so so from that perspective I think it's something that that those guys will do more of and let's not forget I. Mean for all the you know the ribbing and like Oh like look who want etcetera etcetera. These guys are pocketing huge piles of cash, and so a lot of you raised a lot of money for charity, too, but I mean these guys are pocketing here's pile huge piles of cash when they do an event like this, this is not a not entirely out of the goodwill of their of their generous hearts. Did you. Bet on it will, and did you. Did you love it? I was I was actually. I missed the early part of it because I was actually playing golf myself. We can play golf in north. Carolina. and I didn't bet on it. Because I was I like. I didn't think there was enough value in the favorites if I if I didn't sitting at my computer and watching the the first part of probably prop bets Anything A. full-blown degenerate, but just because I was playing golf and didn't have the early part. and I didn't like the I like I like the I thought the favorites. The. Phase GonNa win. And but I, I thought that the best value was on the dog, and so I didn't I I. It was like a tough spot for me. I didn't love the price on it, and so I figured out playing golf myself. Maybe just stay away on this one. It's actually rare thing I'd bet on oddly enough. Steve I'm curious I didn't even ask you. Did you watch that? Did you get involved in it at all, did you? Did you like it? Do you think it could be sort of the future for Golfer? At least more have more of them in the future for golf? What about four holes do some strong opinions about? This golf is horribly flawed right now because the players are boring. And Dairy. I just I can't watch golf all the players. Basically I have no interest other than tiger woods. Who I like following because he has a personality, shows emotion and I think that that what really stood out how great that exhibition was is with you, know Phil, needling tiger back and forth, and and the like, and you know Brady struggling big time early. It was just it was riveting I. Think I would have watched it. had been full sports on and I. Don't watch golf because I'm I. I'm sorry I'm just bored in terms of betting. I'll tell you this. Thank goodness. There was no live betting that I saw on this event because after six holes when woods and manning up three, I was convinced they were GonNa win by seven. This was going to be one of the. The greatest blow outs of all time. It's woods home. Course he's hitting. Every fairway and Brady can't play a lick so I guess a little warning and live betting things can change because obviously, this match got very close at the end,

The Craigslist Photographer Returns With a Report

"Hustle is over ACIS photography, and I was featured in a really early episode episode number nine. The way started with the side, hustles I always a visual person and I've always enjoyed the arts, and in doing the tiger free, since I was really young and over the years. When you're young, you're still learning photography and you start off in the days, and you don't have a job to pay the bill you basically just. kind of stopped, but then what happened with this particular side Hustle in college, a gained the reputation, being known as the guy with the camera, and in my senior year I got asked by a friend to photograph for wedding, and so I said yes. At that time. I didn't really know it didn't even start doing any waiting at that point, but I knew I was excited to try. and. When I kinda sat down, and excitement stopped the realization of all. My Gosh I'm a photograph. My friend's wedding and I've never done this before, so instead of calling my friends saying. Hey, I don't think I can do it. I decided to go with it and I made a post on craigslist, saying hey, I am starting autocracy and any writing the groom's that are looking for Harper, an inexpensive dog of her, and suppose it up on craigslist, and a couple of days later got a reply and bride and groom hired me really quickly off craigslist I still have the day job and I'm still loving. This stay job up to this point just celebrated my twelfth year employment with my current employer so I'm really happy with that, so I I am still a civil engineer and still loving it to this day sense being featured on the show, a lot of things said change in. With the weddings I've slightly increase my prices from the thirty five hundred one. I did the episode to just about a little bit over four thousand at this point, and that was primarily because I started getting a little bit more business, but then I also wanted to concentrate on other parts of the business, and so I thought okay. Let me raise my prices. Maybe they'll slow it down. It did slow it down to a point where I could start. Investing more time in other parts of the business, and so now I am dependent on what hat I'm wearing. I'm either still a wedding photographer, and that's usually primary marks through September, and then throughout the year I can either be doing commissions for landscape, and now with the newest thing with architecture. I'm slowly getting into trying to work with architects and engineers on photographing. Photographing their projects for anyone wanting to start their business, the most important aspect is know how to use camera because the thing is as photographers were basically trying to problem-solver, trying to capture an image given the conditions whether it's like conditions, weather and you are being paid to photograph that given whatever it is. I mean sometimes. It is going to be your call. Hey I cannot get that shot for you today because of a B and C and if you don't know to use your camera, you can't tell your client confidently that you can't make that happen. And you know lastly the best thing that anyone can ever do as the target for is just go out photograph every day. you know practice that skill set because there's always a lot of new technology and all the techniques. There was no one way to get an image. There's multiple routes to do it so always trying to keep fresh with your skill set, and understanding how things go and evolving I think that helps you start off in that business. Well, there are a lot of photographers out there a lot of them who are struggling trying to get their first clients and such. If. That's you if you know somebody, you want to go back and listen to Oliver's original story. If you missed it. Basically, he offered to do his first gigs to strangers on craigslist for a very low amount of money

A match competed national hard court in two thousand and two to start the season both sisters. Boycott Indian Wells for the first time following the racists incident in two thousand and one. So they went out it on social media so Wanda was defending Joe Biden so ended up being a whole political thing that I'm not going to get into because we don't talk a Lotta politics on this show. There's a reason for that. We want to give you a break from that but Scott ended up calling Wanda a hack liberal. Gosh and then Wanda explained her position and she's like oh I'll let you get back to whatever it is you do. Nobody knows do anymore so she was kind of coming at him and I think he was trying to be funny or he was trying to really jab her inches like oh good for him. Made a joke. Comedy AIN'T EASY. Can't fight wander me. That's funny so what does He. What is he doing. I mean I'm sure he's made you know money with Happy Days. Charles in charge and Charles. "One. Frankie and jess show podcast here on iheartradio. We get into what we're talking about, so this is a story I heard about it yesterday and saw a little bit more of it this morning and you know you take. The some of these stories with coronavirus grant salt, but there sounds like there's something to this. It's a study that they've done with men and they're talking about the length of. A man's ring finger actually. Has Something to do whether you're more likely or less likely to die from growing virus. So the same with this study, men who have longer ring fingers have a reduced chance of death from the coronavirus infection. They're saying that are more likely to face mild symptoms. Researchers analyzed I guess about two hundred thousand men. And women forty one countries, measuring the ring fingers in relation to their index finger The research showed that a ring finger longer than the index finger met longer lower fatality rate. So has something to do with. The womb right? Yes, exactly something some type of A. Protein or something in the Yes. With the in the womb, see if I can find that. It was so connected to more testosterone exposure. So the theory is that longer ringer long ring longer. Ring fingers are connected more to talk to saas to on exposure in the room that creates a compound that helps fight the virus so. In a weird right? That's really interesting story so a little bit more with Mary Kate and her soon to be ex, oliver or Olivier I. Don't know how you say his name one of the two Oliver. Maybe IT'S A. Fresh. Yes, so maybe. so they're getting a divorce and it sounds like it was over kids. Yeah, and it sounds like she wanted to have babies, and do they have kids together now he's he's done, so he's older kids from his last marriage. So I didn't wanted to have more kids, so it sounds like she wanted to have kids. Yeah, he's done, and it just got bad and it got really bad something. That's very common with with people just in general in a relationship you know whether you're not on the same page with having the kids who are like adding to the family. You know where people you were saying that you know some people that fall into this as it right now that they're. They're of dealing with this well and and I've statistically who knows, but the people that I know in the you know stuff that I've gathered. If the woman wants the kids depending on who she's married to, she ends up getting him because I have a friend. Her husband's one kid and we're done one now. They have four cheese and she just kept talking into. Issue would alter her birth control. Games alter the birth draw. Yeah, so. That's what's messed up about that as if she's doing that. The husband probably doesn't know in girl friends and family members. Do know you know that I. Bet I'll bet that he doesn't house. clueless didn't know she's running the show. Lewis that's messed up and there was another couple..

It's exactly a little one. And then we talked about this on Tuesday that Lori Loughlin and her husband Masato pled guilty finally in the collegiate scandal and that she was going to serve. What a few months in prison and then he was going to serve about five. That's what we're hearing. She told the sentencing comes down I'm hearing as of this morning because of Cova Ed and that their offenses aren't extreme. They might not even serve time a really. Yeah they might end up how you know doing the whole ankle monitoring which is what she wanted and then doing the fine which is a pretty hefty fine for both of them. They're being charged separately. They're not a package deal. And then also The community service with that too which is hundreds and hundreds of hours but yeah because of COVID. They're trying to get people out. That aren't violent criminals in certain state. Well let it heard. Their sentencing was supposed to be some time in July and he was angry because now they pushed it to August. Yeah you're right so it's like a month later. But mean he's he's such a control freak this Massimo guy and I've been a fan of his brand for years and years since I was a teen beyond just hearing some more inside scoop for people that know them and that have been talking to the tabloids. "It is time for after balls many segments ago. We're talking about Lsu in Alabama. I said that the thirty three points that all she scored in the first half against Bama on Saturday were more than they had scored in the whole game and eighty one of the previous. Yes eighty three games in the series one of the Games where they scored more than thirty three was and two thousand seven when Lsu National Title Forty One to Thirty Four Matt Flynn Two thousand and one was the other one L. She'd Alabama thirty five twenty one and the quarterback and I came was Rohan Davey and this was the greatest passing performance server and Lsu Game Stephane he literally five hundred and twenty eight yards passing literally. And there's a receiver in that Game Game Josh Reed. Who went on to be at first-round's? NFL Pack who had a two hundred ninety three receiving yards. Ron Davies was Such a fun one player to watch. Did he have. He was rafted by the Patriots. Either not have much of a professional career if any But he was fun in college and that's Okay Rohan Davey. We celebrate you on this joyous day. Stephan was your Ron Davey Jason Lockenfora. Yahu reported over the weekend that Amazon. Founder Jeff bezos is interested in buying NFL team and the NFL is interested in having him by one. The billionaire has apparently been getting palsy with various. NFL owners and with Commissioner Roger Goodell no teams appear to be for sale right now but the seahawks and the broncos could be on the market after the deaths of their longtime owners owners Paul Allen and Pat Bolan. The fazon of excitement. Here isn't that America's number one guard is looking to join America's number one oligarchical sports league after all. NFL teams are so expensive. At this point that there are few potential buyers. No the Fazon is that Amazon is opening a second headquarters outside of DC and bezos moving into a mansion on St for which he bought and his renovating for a total of at least thirty. Five million dollars. Now let me pause. Here Josh rushed to say that the spruced-up place is to have according to the Washingtonian magazine twenty-five bathrooms five lounges. Two elevators and a sizeable ballroom. Oh Room plus one thousand six light. Fixtures six dishwashers and forty-eight smoke detectors and for gas fireplaces five bathtubs dubs five refrigerators thirty one bathroom basins twelve kitchen sinks. Ten showers and two urinals also to elevators former textile museum. Take Museum represent baby so it follows that the NFL team that beltway bezos should own is the one with Washington in its name Abass. Zona ship would solve one problem getting rid of the worst owner in professional sports. Dan Snyder and it could solve. Another bezos owns the Washington Post which under his ownership has editorialized editorialized. That the football team's name is quote hurtful offensive degrading and a racial slur end quote and should be changed but one of the NFL owners bezos has befriended apparently. Is Dan Snyder. Jason Lockenfora story says that Amazon's new office hub could help Snyder. A new stadium built inside the city because Amazon might be willing to sponsor it that would really suck. So I'm going to invent a tastier scenario. The bazo says buttering up Goodell and Snyder to get Intel so that he can pivot and make an offer that goodell would force snyder to not refuse and Goodell should undertake this plan. Not just to finally get the incompetent snyder and his racist team name out of the League he should do it for a third reason to fuck with with Donald Trump. I trump hates basis and the fake news lobbyists Amazon Washington Post. He's threatened empty to charge Amazon more in taxes. The Canadian Television Network Sports net fired Don Cherry for what it described as divisive remarks the do not represent our values or what we stand for. Those divisive remarks were broadcast during the eighty five year. Old Cherry's coach's corner segment on Saturday. which runs on the show hockey night in Canada in that segment he talked about how shameful it is that? People don't wear poppies on remembrance. Day To commemorate the sacrifices Canadian veterans actually. It's not that people don't wear poppies. It's that you people don't wear poppies specifically the people of Toronto with with its large population of immigrants. Let's listen to Cherry's rant. I was talking to a veteran. I said I'M NOT GONNA run the poppy thing anymore. Because what's the sense I lived in Mississauga autobody. Wears a very few people where poppy downtown Toronto Forget it downtown. Nobody wears the poppy. And I'M NOT GONNA wait. He says wait a minute Hobo running and for the people that buy them. Now you go to the small cities and you know you know those roles unrolls you people love you come here or whatever it is you love our way of life you love our milk and honey at least you could pay a couple of bucks for a poppies or something like that. These guys pay for your way three of life that you enjoy in Canada. These guys paid the biggest price the day. After those comments aired the stars. Bruce Arthur wrote a piece headlined aligned. It really should be game over for Don Cherry this time after toxic you people rant. I'll confess that when I saw that headline. I assume that nothing was going to happen. Don Cherry sorry. That's pretty clearly. What Don Cherry seem to in the video version of Cherry's rant? You can see hockey night in Canada. Host Ron Maclean. Who like Jerry is wearing a poppy on on his lapel? He's good he's got the poppy. McLean is a standing there. mutely a nodding along it was McLean. Ultimately who apologized saying being done made comments that were hurtful and prejudiced and I wish I had handled myself differently. Cherry for his part told the Toronto Sun that he would not apologize and that he'd had his his say this has always been the pattern with cherry the one time. NHL Coach of the year slash Canadian national treasure slash Canadian national embarrassment. He says something dumb or gross or offensive and other people do the apologizing the first referendum people usually say about cherry saying something controversial and and the long lists of Cherry saying things that are controversial offensive probably better worthy controversial anyway He mocked a Finnish coach. For for the Winnipeg jets. The coach's name was Alpo. Suen by saying Alpo. Isn't that a dog food. According to a eighteen ninety article and the Montreal Gazette this happened happened in eighteen. Eighty nine Ron Maclean. Who was As now then the host of Akhenaten Canada turn to Cherry on coach's corner gave me a chance to apologize college is I said no Cherry said proudly recounting the event. Although it's hard to summarize everything he said and done and his long tenure on the telly Bruce Arthur's summary of cherry as good as any Arthur rates that in two thousand seven Ron Maclean said indigenous people felt they were not treated equally in Canada. Cherry Cherry said fair shake when you go out and get your own fair shake in life and work for it. Don't give me that stuff in two thousand thirteen cherry said female. Journalists don't belong in locker rooms and for over a decade Arthur rates. Jerry has complained that climate change is a scam because a winter still happens last month. Jo Pack wrote a piece for Vice Hotline to Don Cherry's dangerous legacy in that piece pack. Ask Day couple of rhetorical questions. Why despite has many expressions of sexism homophobia phobia and xenophobia? Is he still tolerated. Why haven't major sponsors of coach's corner pulled their advertisements? Why this is outdated behavior? Continue to provoke mostly asleep shoulder shrugs from some fans media academics before Monday. I would've answered those questions by saying that Canadian broadcasting authorities have been afraid to call Don Cherry out because these CNN is speaking for the good white people of Rural Canada. Maybe they thought he was just an old guy who represents old timey values. He loves fighting in hockey hockey. For instance we've got a respect our elders even if they're idiots but now after a decade upon decade of similar behavior the institution of Don Cherry is has no more and I'm extremely surprised. I must say this is a really huge thing in a sign that if you're a raging asshole for a very long time maybe eventually at some point point your bosses will figure out that you're not actually load bearing structure. They are just.

"They attend the attempts to sideline football player. Chase young among of Ohio state and basketball player James WISEMAN OF MEMPHIS among if not the most highly rated prospects in their respective sports for what appear to be Banal international transactions are just the most prominent illustrations of the NCAA's increasingly desperate ause like behavior as it defends itself against attacks acts on its very existence in courtrooms and state legislatures. Slate staff writer. Joel Anderson is here he is the host of season three of slates podcast justice series. Slow burn about the murders of two pock Shukor and the notorious B I g which is amazing he also used to cover college sports for ESPN. It's up Joel. Hey Stephanie. I'm good thanks for joining US and congrats on the podcast. Thank you very much. I know somebody that's been assisting me much in the way that C. P. Three eustis Tyson Chandler on this on this podcast. But I'm not gonNA say who it is but he's been very helpful to say that Eh but I guess great. I concur with Mike. Yeah Dude listen all right. So I did a pretty broad splenetic introduction there but let's focus on chase young on James Wiseman really simplified backgrounds. A young accepted a loan which he paid back from a family friend so that his family could attend last. Season's Rose Bowl Weisman's men's mother accepted moving expenses from a high school assistant coach former NBA star Penny Hardaway. Who would later be hired as head coach at Memphis and end recruit wise men to the school? Joel broadly. What are the connections that you're seeing in these two cases? Well I guess when I think about this like the stepping back from it all what does this have to do with the academic experience like. What does any of this have to do with college college? You know what I mean. Theoretically College sports supposed host to be a diversion on a college campus. It's not supposed to be a separate entity of supposed to be integrated roughly into the college experience and I'm just wondering how would other student on campus couldn't call in a favor to a family friend. Would other student on campus could not if they were in some sort would have dire financial straits. have their mom reach out and say hey look I need some moving expenses or I would like from my girlfriend to come visit me or hey. I would like to wear a suit to a heisman ceremony. Whatever whatever like I mean you? What does this have to do with college? And it's just really unseemly that the idea that when these financial transactions that are alleged to have happened between swing James Wiseman and chase young people who weren't even under the auspices of the NC Double A.. They have to establish like all these different things. They have to turn over their lives and show. Hey Look I knew this person at this certain time. This is what this money was for. This is the circumstances that I had to ask you know. Ask for the money. I mean it doesn't make any sense to me and it really. It's just really really nasty. That people's lives are being thrown open like this to determine eligibility because it doesn't have anything to do at school that's kind of would always come back to our colleague colleague. Ben Mathis Lilley when we were talking about this news Joel. I'd put it aptly when he said. NCAA reaching out of the grave to be annoying the thing that's so funny to me is that the NCAA and its model are if not dead dying and rather than try to save itself by adapting to the growing consensus of everyone in the world that rule enforcement enforcement like this is backward and wrong They just seem to be going along like business as usual. Doubling down even yeah yeah and wise men and young are two of the best prospects to potential number one in the NBA and NFL. You're there respectively effectively possibly the Best College Basketball College football prospects in the country. Yes and so you would think that an organization that was focused on self preservation would would want to accommodate these talents. And maybe look the other way or you know not even look the other way. Say this is fine And and yet the NCAA has done the exact opposite and this seems like only accelerate to me the eventual destruction of the NCAA right right. That's what's so ironic about this. Is that the. NCAA thinks that it's doing right by its members by the universities by its rulebook when in fact all it's doing is accelerating the antagonism that the general public and people who can maybe do something about out this state legislatures and the Courts as I said in the intro it's increasingly antagonisms. They are going to have toward the NCAA and the NCAA's always. I think assume that the general public is behind it because Oh we can't have shady recruiting and Oh we can't can't have kids on the take. We need to make sure that all of our rules are enforced in these rules are important to maintaining the integrity of the institution of amateurism and and more and more people are recognizing that this is a farce. Well the chase young thing in particular Joel seems perfectly calibrated to demonstrate the moral bankruptcy of these. NCAA rules because it's not just the small dollar amount. It's not just the fact that chase young paid back the money for the ticket. It's the fact that he did this so that his family could see him. Play football game right and he didn't have the money to do that. And so what the. NCAA wants incest to believe. In order for us to think that this is a fair and just decision is that players shouldn't just have a right to have their families. Watch them play and a ballgame that it's wrong for them to want that if they can't afford it and so you know this feels like a classic example of winning the battle to lose the war except they're not even GonNa win the battle right right. Yeah I mean it. Under what circumstances could I guess I would like to know right Because chase young happens to be good at football because he happens to play for a high profile program but he still has a family he still has obligations back home in Maryland. Like let's just say that. And if he needed money if somebody in his family needed money under what circumstances could they get money that would be okay with the NC Double A.. And that's really really disgusting. Do you know what I mean. The fact that if she needed help with the light bill or she needed help her car broke down and she lives in a place. That doesn't have public transit. Where could she get help the NCW saying anybody willing to step in and help you under these circumstances is suspect and that relationship is suspect and it just doesn't feel like the NCW should be able to have the right? I to tell people that know you can only stay broke. You could option does it. You can only stay broken. The thing is is that they only do this with certain players from from certain backgrounds. If you come from a fluent background if you already come from money then they're not going to question you on that you know they'll just say okay what's five Johnny Zell shows up Pity Mavericks Game Front Row seat. That's fine because he's rich already. You know the narrow irony in the chase young story is that if Ohio state had been playing in in the College Football playoff and not in the rose bowl his parents expenses or his family's expenses would have been covered to attend the game because there's a special fund in the College football all play offs. Generous Yeah Right. So maybe it's just state's fault for not being clearly right right. Yeah I mean they only lost one gang last year to write was it the purdue game so I guess that they lost one game it is a result now. All this nonsense happened. Yeah Man I just think it's why would the NC double ebola like in a time when you're right. Public sentiment is changing. Why would you tag nice people in what we want to see these people played? Don't they want chase young to play. Don't they want James Wiseman to play in. It is like this antithetical to their own survival and you know as Dan Wetzel pointed out in a column and Yahoo Coaches can coach when they're under investigation players can't play and so what Memphis is doing if we want to transition. That story is considered to we openly antagonistic to the NCAA. Now which is that. Wiseman played wisemen played a lawsuit filed. They said you're telling us that he's not eligible. Well the screw you. We're GONNA play anyway. We're going to get a temporary restraining order. And you know we'll sort this out later but we're not going to presume he's guilty not and have him set out and Memphis risking it season. It's eligibility for for the season Penny Hardaway the coach. Thank you wrote a profile about him for ESPN Joel He is assembled this unbelievable recruiting class better even than any other classes that John Calipari put together when when he was at Memphis and they seem to be you know going with the approach of direct confrontation and unwillingness to a seed. Dan You know what wise men is accused of here and not even really what Wiseman is accused of. It's his family. Got These moving expenses from Penny Hardaway. wiseman reportedly Ridley didn't know about it. It is like a lot shadier chase young dead. I mean the coach of the team currently gave Like like five figure sum to the mother of the Star player. Now they're all sorts of circumstances. Hardaway wasn't the coach back then Wiseman was just a kid. It was the assistant coach for the High School. And of course he was recruiting him to come play for his high school. And maybe who knows. Maybe and you would know this better than either of US would Joel All. Maybe Hardaway figured I'm going to be the coach at Memphis in a year's time but even if that were the case that's about intent and supposition him and that's not what we're talking about here and what they're digging. Well my wife. My point is who cares my points to and if you want to drill down into into the absurdity of the NCAA's actions here. It's not just that his family got moving expenses is it's that penny. Hardaway is considered sittard. A booster for the for Memphis because eleven years ago. He gave a million dollars to the university to build. What was it a hall of fame or Athletic Athletic Center? Right famous basically a monument to his his career to by the way and as I've read it in some places it wasn't a donation into the athletic department it was a donation to the university. So if you WANNA start splitting hairs about these rules hardaway might not have broken any rules. He should not be considered a booster Mr in perpetuity. That fucking ridiculous. I mean the thing is is that penny was always going to challenge the Current College Coaching Paradigm Bright. But you know other other hires in this Vein Clyde Drexler Chris Mullin Patrick Ewing those dudes parachuted in from the NBA. Or do they work their way up the benched him to they got to the top seat right but with penny like this is very much a professional play like he's hired NBA guys. The school president is like. Hey I'm totally cool with him selling recruits recruits on the idea that I can get you to the NBA. He was the first guy to get somebody to be commit from Kentucky so he is like a direct challenge to with the system has always been in in terms of what coaches are allowed to do who they've been. He's a product of grass roots basketball culture which everybody is always suspicious about anyway. That's where he got his footing in coaching thing in the game right now so it was inevitable that penny was going to end up here one way or another. Even if it wasn't James Wiseman it was always going to be somebody else because people have always been whispering about this the whole hollway and in fact I mean Tennessee Tennessee High School Sports Governing Association. I mean this was a battle. They fought over. James Wiseman eligibility in high school. So there's nothing new here the issue is like are they going to allow college coaching to be like this..

"Sabin Crazy Naji Harris has really really good And those receivers are really really really good. They're incredibly hard to stop offensively like you have to cover maybe a first round. NFL Guy with your fifth coroner. It's it's it should be illegal but Alabama's did some dumb stuff in the first half the game two at dropped the ball. Nobody hit him The punter dropped the ball nobody hit him and Lsu made like one good defensive. Play where Patrick Queen dropped into coverage and intercepted a two. And they got an extra touchdown and the last ten seconds the half. And that's really what won. The game just came down to which team made mistakes that were not really caused by the other team. Not The Not that I particularly care there that that was the case but that was the deciding factor. There's one cool thing to point out here too. There's a strategic thing that happens at the. NFL is well at that level. which is their leading leading receiver? LSU's leading receiver in the guy. Who touched the ball? The most both in rushing and in terms of the passing game was Clyde retailer. The running back. What Nick Saban had to do defensively? Offensively is play out of nickel putting five defensive backs on the field. which is a lighter? Look okay cool if you're going to go five or even six defensive backs as a common thing we city. Then I'm going to take a very stocky fast and mean guy with hands and I'm going to put him in the passing game as either my outlet or as the primary receiver on every single play. What does that mean? That means that somebody who is lighter than a linebacker who Alabama doesn't have anyway there little thin at linebacker this year which is shocking for them. You'RE GONNA have somebody who is basically a nickelback going up against a guy who is two hundred fifteen pounds of rock-solid malice With the ball. And that's not gonNA go. Well you saw by the way. Clyde ritzy layer breaking tackles and throwing people off. That's not because you know quite a ritzy layers all of a sudden bigger than he was the guys. He's facing are like marginally smaller because they have to cover all of those wideouts by formation. So that's just like one little chess piece that I thought was really cool to watch the whole time time that you know it goes across all football at this point congrats to everybody on. LSU's when do we want to Nazi Alabama play Lsu in the College Football playoff. And is there a genuine threat that Alabama won't be in the top four assuming everybody wins out because Alabama ain't playing in the SEC championship game in all likelihood. Is there a riskier in. Is that bad for college football or are you happy to take your win over Alabama and and just leave it at that. Oh let Spencer field this because any kind of flashbacks ax from two thousand eleven. which caused me to start screaming which we don't want on our air? The ratings would probably be really good for that so the committee would one hundred percent be in favor of saying an Lsu Alabama rematch. However I don't WanNa see it? I just from a personal bias. I don't really care to watch that game again because I think the results will be pretty similar. I don't think that Alabama can move their personnel into a position. That's going to yield results. which are dramatically different? I also think that they're going to be a number of teams. We're going to have a better claim on that than Alabama and I think there is like some fatigue because there's enough of a data set there's enough of the recent memory of Alabama making the title game despite not being conference champion. We're going to get a logjam. Most likely going to get a logjam this year of teams with really really good strong cases that are I think topped by a Conference Championship Game Conference Championship Games. Do not exist to decide died. One team's position in the national hierarchy. Because there is no system of determining who gets into the top five or six slots in college which football. There's no organized way of doing it. We just kind of eyeball it at the end and come up with ever more elaborate solutions on how that eyeballing is done. I don't I think when push comes to shove that a conference champion is going to be denied especially if it happens to be the big ten champion or if it happens to be The ACC see see champion. Clemson will likely go undefeated. Ohio state will likely go undefeated. LSU will go undefeated. There's a good chance that you could get a strong one loss team there who is really really going to have like. What if Oklahoma is sitting there? Do you tell them no. Is that how it goes. So you can let Alabama in. What if they've got the conference championship enhance? What if they're still standing there with one loss? Did you tell a one loss. 'cause they lost the Kansas State. But do you tell them no. I don't think you do. I think Oklahoma gets gets in over Alabama at this point. You could tell the exact same story and just say the only thing that needs to happen for Alabama to get in as for like Oklahoma lose another time time and then yeah. They're not going to get an over big ten Champ River Clemson but There's another spot and I don't know Oregon who lost a Auburn is going to get in over Alabama and and you know PAC twelve champ might have two losses to you know right on time Gary Danielson as soon as Lsu gets the clinching punching. I down like the clock doesn't even go down to zero. and He's already talking about how Alabama should get into the playoff talking about Allahu about Alabama tethered dench the like ESPN ESPN college. Football prognosticator is thanks. She thinks Alabama's done come on get real did like there is no universe in which Alabama's done they're going to be in that fourth slot slot. They're going to lockdown that force lot. I'm telling you right now. We're all in the most dangerous position in SCC football strategy which is depending on offered bird. This is where everyone is at if they say. I really want some clarity in a playoff race. I need there to be an actual obvious choice for the fourth lot in order for that to happen. I Need Auburn to do something predictable right. I need the money beat Alabama. Good luck the entire history of Auburn is being either either wildly underrated or overrated with no warning about which when they're going to be all right one last thing Spencer Donald Trump trying to get his Nixon at Texas Arkansas in nineteen sixty nine nine moment. A few students standing up with shirts that spelled impeach a lot more people who did the opposite of that what do you think of. Trump's move to try to ride the wave of southern football showed up and they lost. That's all anyone that's all anyone. One should remember about this whole thing he inconvenienced. Everybody probably made Nick Sabin infuriated at even a minor inconvenience of his schedule and Alabama Alabama lost. Your thirty one game home. Winning streak came to an end on the same day that Donald Trump showed up at your door. Just remember that I don't really. I can't tell you how to live your life. I can only point out correlations. Maybe a preview of twenty twenty lost by five points on the scoreboard probably won the Electoral College Though Spencer Hall Banner Society Thank. Thank you for being here and revelling with us. "Learn more a normal now dot com on Saturday in Tuscaloosa Lsu beat Alabama forty six to forty one and it really felt good. Didn't it at dead. It was the Tigers first win against the tide since two thousand eleven. Lsu scored more points the first half thirty three than they'd scored in the full game. And I did this research on Wikipedia. Then they'd scored in the full game in eighty one of their eighty-three three previous all-time meetings against Alabama. I was happy. Louisiana was happy coach. Oh was happy. Let's hear at around had to say in the locker room after the game in Houston that we did recruiting asked. What fuck you WPRO? Joining us now is Spencer Hall Editor At Large for Banner Society and our senior Cajun. Locker Room expletives correspondent. Welcome Spencer that that wasn't just the LSU team cheering. That was America. Oh yeah the entire nation behind our beloved by Bengals who should they maintain this level of dominance for three years will become the village. That's fine. That's absolutely fine. I understand if you haven't been to. Lsu for the full tailgating cultural experience orients that is game day there and that is the LSU cosmos. You might think that eventually they will become the villain. I will never regard them as such. I don't care they they can beat me by forty and I'll leave there with a smile on my face because they take great joy in everything that they do sometimes even losing and they took great joy and dismantling Ling Alabama's defense to extent that no one else has done. I know we've seen them lose. But we've never seen anybody any single player score four four times on them which is what clydes Rudy layer managed to do against them three on the ground Bladed cop one as well. No one's done that. That's never happened to nick. Sabin team at Alabama. Yeah and the motivation here was just insane. It's been since two thousand eleven since they got humiliated in that national title game they have scored gored mostly zero points and a lot of these matchups but I thought that coach. Oh after the game we thought it was just joe kind of the on field stuff. There was really driving this. But he told Ross downdraft sports illustrated editor Toronto. I might get to go to a seven eleven and get me a monster. Red Bull without people saying gotTa beat those guys while I beat coach editor on will now be able to go to a seven eleven while getting his red ball and not be harassed like that is a strong strong motivator evader. It's practically a knighthood Louisiana to go to a convenience store and leave on harassed end at peace that seems to me to be the bare minimum citizenship ship in the state of Louisiana and yet or had over on paid billions of dollars to get harassed at seven eleven which I would happily do by the way right. You'RE GONNA pay me three million dollars colors and one of the job requirements is. I have to have a thick skin when I encounter service people. That's fine on the other end of you can get paid five or six million because you've done well and it's not get harassed at the seven eleven when win the Lsu job has unique benefits and unique drawbacks and one of the unique benefits is I think beating Alabama. Emma is going to give him a little more peace and a longer term of that piece than it would for say the coach at Alabama or Auburn. I think you get along. Released released their particularly in a state. where I mean you think Sean Payton is ever going to get fired from the saints? No he leaves when he wants to. They can have like five or six losing seasons in a row they might go man shot kind of lost his edge a little bit. You know I think Ed is probably on a different scale. But it's going to be like that for him. It's a big deal like I know that people we'll say. Oh you know like you know. That's that's something. But how about the playoff. I don't care about the playoff in frankly. I don't know how many other people do agree they want to. The playoff is still largely largely a construction of TV. That's used as bragging point right. It's not what people really care about. You know in their heart and soul when they decide to roll up on Thursday and show up for an Lsu tailgate and yeah they're gonNA show up on Thursday sometimes maybe sometimes Wednesday. I do know one person who showed up on Wednesday. This is a massive deal. It is a massive deal for them and absolutely massive do yeah the level of postgame insincerity with a were taking it one day at a time we got it all mess next week that was it. It was epic levels of of insincerity. There People Forget Stefan people forget LSU wine nine of twelve games in this series between two thousand two thousand eleven. Some of those wall knicks him. Coaching Alessio Nick Sabin With Coaching Alabama. It encompassed both but last miles was doing well against Alabama for a minute and the difference in this series was that Nick Sabin and Alabama realized that in order to win in college football in this century you need to have a good passing game and it spread offense. Less miles was like still thought that he had Jacob Hester on the roster for at least ten years after Jacob Pastor graduated and saving modernize first miles didn't Lsu fell way behind and you know what it took for them to catch up was four at around who I think people caricatured is being from not this century. A different different century recognized that we have all this talent. We have all this scope. All these scope session players. Let's get a coach. Who knows about the forward pass? Let's get a transfer who knows how to throw the forward pass and that seems like it's is all it took as Lsu deciding that they wanted to be an offense which makes the other losses kind of retroactively frustrating. But I'm not mad. Not Mad at all. took him seven years. Here's what six or seven years to change what they do. There are a couple of lessons in here. One is that it is very rare for coaches to change what they do for football programs to change they do it really is and one precedent for this comes from P Carroll at USC who has spoken pretty openly about changing everything. They did in the way that they did things going into that job. And it turned his entire career round and at Osha when he was at old miss in a wildly unsuccessful. Ethel tenure at Old Miss. He's not alone in that but it should be noted was a hard ass was a guy who was the disciplinarian was the guy who you know challenged everyone. We wanted to fight him in the locker room shirtless. I'm not making that up by the way. Don't ever think that I've told a joke he really did that. You know yelling wild boys and asking everyone else to take their shirts. It's off get stopping so he could get the program motivated hype that was that was his approach and it was miserable so he went out to. USC in suddenly became became kind of a player's coach. Right just hey you guys you guys did. Well have Popeye's waiting for you in the locker room right you guys. You guys had a good practice. Here's some cookies but gentler chieter and gentler eddoes you're on one of the funniest. They Kinder Gentler F. now punches himself in the base repeatedly before games that it's it's all about context this is kinder gentler for him growing into his voice to he's terrifying. If you've never really listened to Ed odor on like if you were teleported and Tuscaloosa on Saturday and dropped into the locker room. That's a scary scene. Imagine him whispering. That's my challenge is what what does it. Sound like Ed Whispers it probably sounds a lot like the rock monster in the never ending story. It's gotta be the weirdest most disconcerting sound because if he sowed you heard the clip the different now is by the way he cusses in the other people's direction not at you know his coaches or players so not that much has changed he's just redirected that he also if you want to know like the craziest fact about him that at his age I believe he's fifty six earned that neighborhood. He's still squats. Three fifteen for sets and then goes for like a two or three mile jog after that. Yeah he's not human. We say that about people at sports all the time you know at the managerial or playing level that they're not human but but that's what he does and he he doesn't have to do that. y'All it's not part of the job description. Can I ask football question please please. One team scored forty sixpoints. One team scored forty one points. Those are a lot of points to give up for the other team or their defense is just not good enough or is it. Just that Joe Borough is a NFL NFL quarterback right now to playing on a surgically repaired probably in advisably warrior. Stephan let seem pretty dumb that he played aid but whatever still managed to throw for a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns in this game are these just the two best teams in college football and defense. Be Damned armed or does this sort of harbinger. Some problems in the next five games did use. Harbinger is a verb. Like I like it. I will say this this Alabama Emma defense is not a traditional Alabama defense. They've had a bunch of injuries. Dylan Moses who spurned Lsu A. Recruiting battle and become one of Alabama's the best vendors. He is out for the year. They have a bunch of other for the air. They have a bunch of freshman. Starting usually you can plug and play those guys and even if they're like eighteen they're still making kingly twenty five tackles a game but this Alabama defense just isn't super duper great and this. LSU offense is amazing Joe Borough comes into the game like if if the season ended now he would have the NCAA record for highest completion percentage and a season and he bested that against Alabama. He's basically a professional quarterback in that he transferred to Lsu as a grad transfer. He does not go to school. Essentially he takes a couple online classes and so he's studying film all day long in addition to being awesome at playing quarterback and so he's going to pick these guys apart and then on the Alabama side. Yeah they've got like the best set of receivers ever in human history and one of the best quarterback so these defenses have no chance. Yeah this is just one year. I think we're the sliders editors are all skewed towards offense. I think because of the way that Alabama has had to recruit you know they just ended up with this glut of insanely talented wideouts. One of of whom devante Smith was matched up for much of the game on a freshman on. LSU's defense and we're praising the management skills of the LSU staff. I don't Know Oh man you play a man. Press with a pretty slim lead late in the game against the most dangerous wide receivers in college football and a still deadly to Taco Vilo playing on one leg and you played man press with the freshman. go off Dave Randa those check those he check to check it. Guess what you got bird those eighty five yards with with like a minute left in the game. 'CAUSE devante Smith can run very very quickly and your guy is not quite as fast as as he is. Also I kind of think what they you did was like a hilarious strategic thing that I hope somebody points out on. TV which they're very deep flat out. And I think they just decided. Hey Man someone's GonNa have a bad bad night. It's you kid issue like that's it we're going to have somebody who's GonNa have a bad night. Somebody's GonNa ever receiver who just embarrasses them all night. It's going to be you but I think Alabama's lost defensive Lineman to draft. Their next wave of monsters is still on the way but this is a permanent ship because if LSU's putting their skill players who have forever ever been lauded as all being running back disguise right that's the thing with L. issues that their skill players have always been ridiculous. They've been strong. They can break tackles they they you know they are all outrageously athletic and they all end up in the NFL putting up numbers that they've never dreamed of putting up Lsu because of the way things have been run on offense there that's over over. It's not like you're going to see oh. Bj Out you know the next oh BJ come out in the draft go bad. What were they doing with him in college? Now man march chase gets all the chances he wants one on one and Egypt. You a pair. That with Joe Borough go look by the way the jump in his numbers and what he has been asked to do go look at the variation between what his completion percentage was last year. And what he's done this year and the fact that a lot of those completions they're not the sort of like GP screens and like lateral stuff. Where you get high completion? You know what I would call the Tim. Couch factor right where you go. Oh Wow this. Guy Is like completing eighty percent of his passes and you go well most of the win about five yards like five yards that way not forward. No Joe Joe Borough has just been. It's unreal it statistically a parent what he's managed to do one thing. That's very weird with this Alabama team by the way is this. There are only hitting home runs. They're not getting a whole lot of of like pole. Holda pulp production in terms of moving the chains with the run game. which I know has to drive nick?.

"Eight hundred four thousand Tigers left in the wild. Where? As the beginning of the twentieth century there were one hundred thousand yes. Yeah. And they were mostly the reason for that genocide or whatever is basically hunting poaching, primarily a lot of it was hunting and poaching. I mean, it's incredible to see that, you know, certain individuals in India kill twelve hundred Tigers in their lifetime. Four hundred Tigers three hundred Tigers the numbers are staggering. Yeah. And but with that said, this film, I really you're focusing on the conservation on the people who love the Tigers more. Yeah. It was destroyed them when when I was first asked to possibly do a film about Tigers. And if I had any ideas about it. I didn't want to do another poaching film. Right. You know, and there's some amazing films about poaching. That have done great things and really had a positive effect. But I wasn't interested in that. I didn't know what I was interested in. And I went home and told my wife that radical media production. In company and discovery and Fisher Stevens, Wami know, come up with an idea and pitch them. I thought when you're going to do about Tigers. Yeah. Honestly. I just said to myself. I was I was going to blow it off. And my wife said, no, you're going to think about it. It's a good paycheck and. And when not least think about it. So I thought about it a little bit. And I guess because we were talking about my six year old son was cutting paper Tigers and clearing them. And then picking them up and showing them to me and telling me all about the tiger. He knew facts, which I was sort of a standard by and then I have an eleven year old, son. And like, why do they know everything credible now he's into Bowie? It's crazy. But yeah. And I just thought would if we sort of look at this a little differently one. If we concentrate on that childlike wonder, and the beauty and the Reverend man had for the tiger, you know, throughout the ages and to make something gorgeous and beautiful. Yeah. Like the tiger not to over-focus on the killing in the poaching. But it is in a way. Like, I mean to go back to that thing. I was saying about all it's like the things that scare us for a lot of our history. We seem to have had this impulse to like dominate and destroy them when possible as if we could radically that fear, you know, for sure, and it was to me it was fascinating. Because you know, when I was researching my producers are researching and the tiger. So ubiquitous in our culture, and the thing one of the things that draws us to the tiger. Is this power is now or it has and that's an that's exactly the thing. That's creating. The extinction of the tiger. Because people want that power let the medicinal qualities of the tiger, the magical qualities or why we're killing the tiger. Right. We either want to overcome it or we want to somehow ingest it, it's mazing how people can kill everything. Beautiful. Yeah. Let's do it. Let's do a quick discography of the tiger in culture..

"This isn't going to be throwing money at at trying to fix problems like it was and there was very very good with this driving. The Tigers really were more successful during that that stretch where they didn't win a World Series between two thousand six and let's say two thousand fourteen and they'd ever been at any point in their their franchise. I mean like I said it was deep run in the playoffs. It's g for deep run in the playoffs. It's I'll putting to remember that. There was a rotation with Justice Burland or next I or David price for porcelain. I mean, you list goes on the Tigers aren't going to be going that route. And I think there's some question in my mind as if they will be able to deflect their financial muscle again in the years to come. And if they do. You come watch. Because I firmly believe that if you wanna be a legitimate World Series container for whatever year window you want. You're gonna have to throw some money behind that. I think the the brewers small-market teams at a wonderful job as season of had of upping their aggressiveness to to really benefit the market and keep their team is one of the best in the National League. And the Tigers that at some point. But we we which was down here. He was asked pretty point blank. If that's part of the process, and he didn't give a a a straight. Yes. Or no answer on the payroll say that the the resources will increase as as time goes on you could take from whatever whatever whatever angle, you want insiders really tried to catch up an analytics and player all the stuff that they really Nord during his dad days, and they were just giving out hundred fifty two hundred million dollar contracts to every guy and trying to. Win the World Series with a functioning bullpen, which didn't go. Well, I think he's buying into the front office is doing terms of like, he's profits. But I wouldn't say he's an impactful owner at the he's more behind the scenes more of a business. And I do think that we went to talk about owners, they really hold you to this whole thing in terms of how much they want to push the needle to get their team better. And in many cases, I think it helps to have a guy way Mike Illitch who was a fan and cares about the product view. But I I don't think he would stand for rebuilding process. But that's that's where we're at with the Tigers. It's interesting in years to come. If they start know somebody's everyday guys up there in kind of at the point where they need to spend how much they're going to spend. But I I don't think he's really huge guy. Yeah. Yeah. I have definitely spent the past decade or so thinking of the Tigers is a big market franchise with with one of the two or three biggest payrolls in the American League. And I don't know how much of that is the actual true market size or or illegit perogatives when they come out of this rebuild how big a market are. They are they truly a big market franchise right now. No, I think that they're I firmly middle market. I think they're like middle market with maybe you could put an asterisk on. Because Detroit is great baseball. And I think that's been stab with over that that stretch from os six to fourteen. I mean, the difference between Detroit and Cleveland is kind of I opening to me because you see for the past three years. It kind of teams at the Indians of put out there yet you go to their ballpark. What ten times a year, and it can't sell the place out? And we when this was when we were in Detroit eleven twelve thirteen pick year commercial. Mark would be sold on every night. And I think that the the city of Detroit in their sports fan as put a winning team on the field of fun team Tigers had been for the past decade. They're gonna come and I think they're gonna up that market value. But I think market wine. It's a middle market..

"Yeah. It really is. And then, you know, you've got obviously, you know, we're stuck with this Jordan Zimmermann contract. And you know, when Jordan Zimmerman's neck, isn't flaring up on him. He's he goes out there. And he looks a little, you know, a decent amount. Like, the Jordan Zimmermann. You saw with the Washington nationals. You know, like really, you know, just excellent command fastball slider. Curveball carbon people up really really, you know, really good pitch ability really smart at setting up hitters, but you just don't know what you're gonna get and the contract was untradable. So he's he kinda tends to just be an afterthought. You know? He's kind of a veteran leader in the clubhouse. It feels like, you know, like kind of the guy who, you know, the younger guys will go to. But you know, how much value does that have really waiting for this? And and then you know, the Tigers signed Matt Moore anti-state Ross this off season. And probably elevators kind of had a tendency to do this where he comes out like really early in free agency and overpays for a couple of guys that he wants to fill positions and then by the end of the off season. You know, you're seeing better players go for even less than the Tigers paid. And and that's kind of where we're at. You know, we're seeing like Tyson Ross making five million dollars. I think Matt Moore Jordy Mercer. I know got the, you know, five million dollars. And now we're seeing better options go for two or three that they could awaited on which is a little bit little bit frustrating, but Tyson Ross is going to have a starting role almost almost certainly as as long as camp goes reasonably well for him, and he's healthy. And he's a couple years removed now from the threats outlets syndrome surgery, and he pitched really well in the first half last. Year, but cata fell apart in the middle of the season. Right. When they were looking to trade him, and then the cardinals just picked him up on the waiver wire and used them in relief. And you know, we didn't really see a whole lot of them from that point on. So that's just a question. If he you know, he swears that you know, the durability is back. He's finally gotten himself back in, you know, the kind of condition he was before the surgery and all that. And if that's the case Tyson Ross could still be pretty good and would probably probably will love pitching and Comerica park. Because he's a guy who you know, can use the big part of the field with a high fastball. And yeah, you know, I could see him having a decent year. Matt Moore, I didn't really like that. They got him in the first place, and that has a lot to do with just I don't really want to see them blocking Daniel Norris for a guy who's twenty nine years old has been wracked with injuries and hasn't really been effective since you know, twenty fourteen twenty fifteen. So, you know, I don't know they added him in there. And you know, it's it never hurts to pick up a lefty. But the Tigers already have Norris. They have Blaine hardy who was absolutely masterful last year kind of going between starting and then long relief and then middle relief, and then spot starting again, and was really great, you know, in every capacity. So they kind of got three left these like that who none of whom really assured a place in the in the the rotation..

"Probably the instincts to in the first step to play shortstop. But really just just lacks the range and has gotten has really kind of filled out early which I think is one of the reasons why a lot of lot of the the prospect lists haven't had him very high or haven't even had them in the top one hundred is that a lot of people seem to think like he's already, you know, basically, he's just a dude who was really advanced at a young age, and he's he doesn't have that much ceiling left to fill out, but you know, the dude mashes and and he can play the infield. And the Tigers need all the guys like that that they can get. So he probably will end up moving to either second base or third base down the road. But you know, you look at the Tigers top ten prospects or whatever and see him with the shortstop next to him. That's probably not the case. So I wouldn't expect him to to come up and be the Tigers next shortstop unless he really gets in just incredible shape and pulls off some kind of Johnny Peralta renaissance with himself as a young, man. Johnny Peralta had to do it when he was a little bit. Older. So yeah. Those are kind of options, and that's that's really like the key positional weakness that they have if the Tigers head, you know, Fernando Tateishi junior might even be just asking way too much in general. But if the Tigers had a good shortstop prospect, I think the entire system would look a whole lot better. Hell if you just one of the one of the pirates infield prospects at this point. I mean, they have eighty five of them. They got plenty. Yup. Just like give us one. You know, it's like a it's like a lending it, Anna, Anna. hoarding exactly and we just call San Diego. They have eighty five pitchers to. Yeah. I would like to call San Diego L of Hewlett better. We call on sandy zeal prowler Prenton loves making deals to that's for sure he does. And you know, you guys are there right now, they put the money down. So it's still seems like you guys could use yourself a nice starter. You know, maybe a maybe an extreme fly ball pitcher like Matt Boyd or something who really durable, and you know, develop the new slider last year. You know, I'm not saying we bought that much. I don't expect release your AS or anything, you know, thinking about it though. Okay. This is like a dip into your prospect pool is not even a dip in if you take one prospect out of there, it's like taking like just a milliliter like it's just ridiculous. But you know, I gotta ask because you know, Jim Leyland was there forever. Did you see a change in the team at all between how ran or anything when Gardenhire stepped in? I know it's got to be kind of weird having a guy that you went. Ahead with for so long now in the manager spot in the manager's office in Detroit. Yeah. I mean, it felt a little weird last year. You know, the thing is like Ron Gardenhire was just a very likable, dude. You know, obviously, a really really sound baseball, man and stuff. So it wasn't that awkward. It was what was jarring was going from Jim Leyland to Brad office for a couple years, and then, you know, having everything just flame out, and then we go to Ron Gardenhire, and we're talking about the future. But we've basically got Ron Gardenhire bringing in like the two thousand five Minnesota Twins staff. We've got Rick Anderson fishing hunter. Yeah. Exactly. You know, torii hunter is going to be in a special assistant to Darden her at some point here unless you got. Which you might might find a better gig. But yeah, you know, I really wanted gave Kappler. And if you know when the when the decision time came up my feeling on it was like the Tigers are going to suck for a couple of years. We all know that they've got to catch up in a lot of areas of the game. Like, why wouldn't you hire? Gabe Kaplan, who was head of player development for the fucking dodgers. And try some things because if things don't work out, you know, it doesn't matter..

"Tigers are going to be headed to California January seven to play Alabama. And alabama. I hate to tell you. And I know we have listeners in Alabama. I'm sorry to tell you this. I'm trying to brace yourself for the inevitable. Clemson's gonna win. Alabama the crimson tide will roll no more. But good regardless win lose draw. I'm sending mica to California to see the game. That was the big. And you know, what it's a great Christmas gift when you're. And it's hard to believe this when I say thirty four year old son. No way. Yeah. Thirty four no thirty six. Yeah. Yeah. Thirty six they're going to the twins are going to be thirty six this spring. And you talk about your kids growing up. Eric my kids now thirty six term is going to be forty. Trevor will be forty in February. April April, April early April. Anyway, when you're thirty six year old jaded knows everything about everything in the world. Sun breaks down and cries at the gift that you got him. And that's a trip to San Jose to watch the Clemson Tigers in the national championship. And I said Michael you deserve it. You've got you've just done great. I'm proud of you and the and the man that you have become and he is working to help others through the Salvation Army and Robin Heather take take such good carry him look out for him in Anderson, South Carolina. So it's a, but he did he broke down. I gave him I printed out the airplane ticket that I bought for him to go to San Jose this weekend because it's coming up this weekend. They played next Monday. And it was just the airline the printed out airline flight from Greenville to San Jose, which for the record ain't cheap. The airlines know how to figure out oh lot of people in South Carolina are going to want to go to San Jose. So we're going to add flights. Yeah. Well, they aren't adding bargain-basement flights. I told Mike I said not for nothing. I fly first class. I don't pay this much for a coach ticket. Like, I paid for you to go to San Jose. But he's all set. We're going to work out all the details. But he's going, and it was it made me very very happy to be able to to give mica that gift after he did a great job being interviewed by me over the over the holidays for his experience with the Salvation Army. All right. Let's get down to business a lot to cover one eight hundred six five five, Mike. The Democrats are promising to obstruct President Trump's desire promise mission to get border security with the wall. Now, they're down to say they won't give him one. Time for the wall. Did you hear what happened over the holidays? The young police officer tried to pull over a bad guy, the bad guy shot and killed him. Bad guys name is Peres Ariaca. He was in the country illegally. He had had previous arrests. He was taken into custody on charges of killing Newman. Police corporal, Ron L sing he was a thirty three year old husband father of a five month old boy. And since this happened over the holidays, my fear is that Americans aren't paying attention as I'm reading here at Fox News. The officers death has rekindled a national debate over California's sanctuary policies. Well, has it sheriff Adam christianson who led the investigation into the corporals death blamed California's sanctuary law for preventing the local authorities from reporting Peres Arriaga to US immigration officials for deportation after two previous arrests. Sheriff also said this guy had gang affiliations. Now the law. SP Forty-five or Espy fifty four whatever it is prohibits local law enforcement from notifying ice when they get a bad guy in custody. This is a complete. Losing position on the part of the Democrats full stop the Democrats are wrong on this. And they're gonna lose on this even though as they take control of the house tomorrow. And we're in for a rough rough few months and a year or more the president cannot waiver. And so far, he's not. That's why we need this guy in office. That's why President Trump is the right person for the right job at the right time in our nation's history. What a welcome you into the first.
