Wet Notes - 9-13-21

"This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio from monday september thirteenth. Two thousand twenty one first up today is in another idea for diving with a purpose in one of the most recent newsletters from the coral restoration foundation the coral chronicles. There was a report that cr f. is teaming up with the atlantis. Dive resort in douma getty to offer a unique opportunity to participate in a week long program at the result in helping them build and maintain the largest coral nursery endowing. Actually the town where. Atlantis is located. The program is being sponsored by the coral restoration foundation. The loveland living planet aquarium and the meat foundation. The program runs from september twenty fourth to october. First two thousand twenty two there are planned educational sessions on coral ecology along with restoration efforts and techniques. You also conduct restoration. Dives along with some fun dies. This sounds really fascinating. One of the pictures into newsletter showed the table coral at apo island. I vividly remember that area when we dove air in two thousand nineteen there wasn't any pricing available in the article and you'll have to contact the hotel directly if you have the time and desire to dive with a purpose check out this program and market on your calendar. Long time ago. Donna and i lived in hawaii that was in the mid nineteen eighties. At that time we got to experience. What was probably one of the first while in walls in honolulu. If you're not familiar with wilem walls you can check them out. The wall was a large mural of the humpback whale on the side of a building near waikiki. It was quite impressive. Well it might not be a while and wall but if you happen to be near brant rock in mansfield massachusetts you can catch a the view of a mural of a large shark painted on the side of an old restaurant according to wicked local dot com. The mural was painted by a local artist. Shane leonard. Shane was a former football player at boston college. Who has a passion for painting and a passion for sharks. Now the muros on the side of the former arthur and patch restaurant that closed back in two thousand fifteen. The shark faces divers as they head down ocean street which is a one way street. So you can't miss it say. Shane says he likes the way shark. Show emotion. the photo is pretty impressive. there's no guarantee that the building won't be torn down. Now that is unoccupied but according to shane. Even if it doesn't survive it was worth doing so if you happen to be near mansfield mass check out the shark mural on ocean street about a month ago. Patio wear foundation announced their fourth annual aware week. Now this year it will run from september. Eighteenth through september twenty six two thousand and twenty one the whole idea behind aware week is to empower the global dive community to lead or take part in conservation activities in courses focused on local action for global impact in the past aware has focused on two elements marine debris and vulnerable marine species this year in concert with patties blueprint for ocean action. They're adding three more components. Climate change marine protected areas and coral reefs. Some of the ways. That dive shops can participate or by conducting aware classes like dive against debris coral conservation or the aware specialty. Also like us. You can become a one hundred percent aware dive centre where you provide a monthly contribution in support of the patty certifications you award. We are very proud to be one hundred percent aware. But here's something that. Patty aware foundation needs to work on. We need more notice as to win. Aware week is happening. I wasn't sure what was happening this year and our calendar filled up and we weren't able to get things scheduled as i mentioned at the top of the show. We've already created are twenty twenty two calendar and it would be nice to know when aware week twenty twenty two is happening. I also mentioned at the top to show that the re photo contest results were in and that i didn't win while scuba diving magazine. Magazine's two thousand and twenty one through the lens contest is also complete. The winners were recently released at scuba diving. Dot com and the photos will be revealed in september october special photo issue. They received one thousand seven hundred and nineteen photos from around the world. The contest categories included behavior compact camera macro and wide angle. The entries were judged on beauty originality and unique encounters. I check them out and they are spectacular. I only wish. I had the talent impatience to do that kind of work. Now if you wanna get a jump onto twenty twenty two contests they will start accepting entries january third two thousand twenty two and you can submit your photos through may thirty first two thousand and twenty two and finally we recently received our two thousand twenty two aqualung buyer's guide along with information on all the new products coming down from aqualung apex. So i thought. I'd give you a little preview on what's on the horizon. I from aqualung. They are releasing a new regulator the helix pro and the helix it looks like the helix pro is a mid range regular and i think it's replacing their core. It is a balanced first and second stage in his environmentally sealed with four low pressure ports and two high pressure ports. It was built for cold water and has the automatic closure device or a cd. lower end. helix is not environmentally sealed. And it doesn't have a cd and it's designed for warmer water. Also coming out in two thousand and twenty two is their new. Aqua fluck aqua flex men and aqua flex woman wetsuits. I think it's a redesign of their tried and true. Aqua flex line they also have a two millimeter. Free flex wetsuit now. The i one hundred computers going to come in a new color yellow and speaking of colors. They've added a number of different colors to various products including something called sand petrol red and orange as for eight packs. They also have a new regulator the xl four osha and it is billed as a totally sustainable regulator bay from post consumer waste it comes in grey or mint with some great etching. On the first stage. I suspect it's just like the xl four plus being an overbalanced diaphragm regulator with two hp and four l. p. ports. It looks pretty. Sharp and apex is releasing a new dive computer to the sx. It will be program can program up to six gases and monitor six transmitters. The has a titanium basil making it lightweight endurable but also has a color display. There's something more that require. Some more research It says it has in oh to analyze or onboard. But no to sell gotta check that out a little bit. There's a lot more out there and over time. I'll give you more updates from both aqualung and apex. Well that wraps up wet notes. Here on scuba shock. Radio for monday september thirteenth. Two thousand twenty one

Well then why are you getting rid of somebody with that kind of experience like sean has pours his heart into it dedicated. You know he's not doing that for prestige or money or title. "Canary speech technology is currently commercially available. It's practical and scalable. We range in population sizes from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands of individuals within the population that we're monitoring and scoring. We have a range of different human conditions, stress anxiety, depression, we've had probably the most extensive use with. We've done some work in PTSD as well. Second to that we have a lot of work done in MCI Alzheimer's and cognitive function and decline. In this particular case, we currently have four clinical partners in different locations in the world where we are doing validation studies on Alzheimer's and cognitive measurements. And then of course, employee burnout, things like congestive heart failure, autism and others are ones that are being worked on as well. I've talked about our patents, we have new patents we're applying for things that we've been learning through these studies. And then our speech analysis as we mentioned before is done generally on 40 seconds to a minute of speech. And we return scored through our system within three seconds of time. We also have a well developed set of APIs that allow us to do multiple things, of course. One is to connect to internal health medical record systems. "Kids probably shouldn't watch the never ending story by the way. Take it from a lifelong hand-wringing teeth. Gnashing certified anxious person who did watch the neverending story as a kid. Just take my word on this fun and enjoy not sending your tweens therapy when a field trip to a dude ranch leaves her in a six week existential cesspit. You are welcome anyhow. Let the calming familiarity of his emphatic. Instrumented pino man cover wash over me embracing it for what it was as i stopped doggy. In a windbreaker that i was going to sleep at best a grand total of three and a half hours before being hog tied like dracula and drug into the unholy predawn conscious awareness of yet. Another day i just said goodbye to a man who spent his adult life trying to iron out the kinks in his own childhood trauma to divorce the rigid metal ribs of distinct and convoluted slinky's between two issues. He internalized watched his parents struggle with them and his own one thing he said stands out to me not in the warm hug of some enlightening epiphany would that it were so clear or soothing or simple rather it glares at me like the endless parade of undimmed headlights on country roads. That forgive the hell out of me. But i think might be to social crisis. We've all been letting go unchallenged. way way too long. i find that when i'm president with my son. This person said after describing the frustration that has followed that terrible moment when a child realizes they can ruin your whole day with the right kind of wiggle. When you're trying to change their decayed diaper. He stops trying to get away. I find it so confronting. I think because it is for me as a mother. One of the most inconvenient truths about parenting. I will ever face. I have to actually disconnect from the world and just parent if i want parenting to be easy but most days for the past year but for what actually sometimes feels like as long as time itself. I am lucky to conjure the cognitive energy and compulsion toward self-preservation required to wash the world off me at the ends of them to consistently accomplish nothing at all other than grooming myself and appearing functional would be an improvement from where. I have been at certain points this past year. But then the person on the other end of the line clicks back into my world and a wake at that perfect perfect little. Pull off spot just outside watts. "Sixteen minutes and thirty three seconds. I've been a difficult customer this week. I've gotten frustrated on the phone with people from whom i've found it difficult to exercise their job or rather their employer if a company has kept me waiting or failed to show even the slightest amount of concern for the inconvenience. My last nerve has officially frayed. That company is now dangling like skywalker with one hand and one stub precariously from the dingle berry of the universe. I am not proud of the amount of patients. I lost this week with people who are just people. Same as i am people. I've had a couple of people lose their patients with me as well come to think of it. When does not equate flat. me with. Customer service intuitively. It is a facet of the job. You come to realize just a bit too late once. The tax forms are filled in and the direct deposits are setup and everything's just beginning to sink in the gravity of the commitment. You've just made not to mention the sheer number of social interactions. You've just signed up to experience every single day and it's okay at work for the most part. I'm fine with it. I had a long conversation with someone else the other day someone who struggles likewise with social interactions outside the house anxiety and a tendency to percent rate which is different from ruminating in that during ruminations. Something is accomplished whereas with precipitation you just keeps bidding the same soggy straw up from your guts and rolling it around in your mouth for a while before swallowing it again. Structurally unchanged from the last time. You worked it up and the time before that and the time before that time before it was. I suppose a sort of airing of grievances a month too late. I'm always relieved to hear that someone else's feelings same pressure as i am i'm given to relentless bouts of shadow boxing myself. Maybe it's not as bad as making it out to be anyhow. Maybe i'm just reading too much into it ono. She gets it to somehow. I maintain this delusional. Hope that i will one day attain the nirvana of complete social ignorance. I've been told by people that i'm unnerving to be around. Because i can hear the tones of their voices. Humans have evolved. It would seem to bottleneck all the subconscious awareness channel it into the content of their speech. Not the tone in which it's delivered because humans have also evolved. It would seem to be as deaf to the nuances in their daily interactions. As an eighty year. Old metalhead grandpa. I can see the little quirks and mannerisms that happen automatically magically taking up less than zero percent of persons conscious bandwidth. I'm not saying i'm special. Actually tuning into people isn't a superpower reserved for the highly savant idiot. Every single one of us has the capacity to develop it just as we would any other muscle or skill or habit you too could feel the texture of a voice for better or worse as it's tucked into your ear by gentle. Whisper or vomited at you across a four way intersection. It's knowing how to shut it off to me that may as well be some unholy alchemy of the highest order like algebra and the sports balls is someone who has shed much of the internalized expectation that i control what my face does. When you talk to me. It can be exhausting to try and shove myself into a little box. Behaviorally a narrow spectrum of appropriate reactions responses and initiations having worked in customer service. Try very hard to shove myself directly into that very box and keep all of my feelings to myself. In that context. I have not succeeded this week. I have also done ridiculous things. I have forgotten my idea for things. I knew absolutely that. I would need my. Id for even after having been reminded to bring my. Id with me to the thing that you cannot do without it. I promise that was neither exciting nor titillating. It was painful if that does anything for you. I have made appointments that. I have neglected to keep on more than one occasion simply because i forgot and i know that i'm fortunate to have the problem. I'm about to unburden myself. Up to you dear reader but i am utterly utterly burned out from the amount of work available to me in so many ways right now. Our world feels like an extended exercise in east or famine. All or nothing black or white for those of us. In america those existential conflicts are amplified deafening as those among us who have never been patriotic. Our lives have wept it images of people with whom we share a common resource one would assume a common goal of needs. Only the absence of antagonists to thrive and flourish desecrate ding are philosophical brains of told us for three decades hold one iota of actual significance other than that with which we choose to infuse it latent patriotism activated by coming as close as anyone has to actual domestic terrorism in generations is jarring in inconvenient little monster to be expected to grapple with at this time and place in the world and yet here we are sure. Life doesn't even matter at this point. Just stack it on top of the homeschooling and the looming. "Three two and later today Alan we're even going to talk about one great inventors go bad and that'll yeah I'm not going to give you any tease what folks you're gonna want to listen to this is it just you know catapults prison sentences all sorts of because I'm not going to tease yeah say that activity myself but Allen today we definitely got a hit on the weather I mean my gosh mom whether per how bout this Alan how about a running theme today might be right weather proofing your house storm proving to give you some peace of mind man we are is the enemy yeah we had if if you're listening outside of Memphis we had some nasty weather roll through here and but it was hit or miss it wasn't pockets like our house we dodged a bullet we didn't get anything so but it you know I like to go from you know that could go from protecting your foundation to your roof to you now talk everything so we're gonna we're gonna touch on that and now I'm I'm hoping you can talk me through this is it wrong that I hate my pecan tree yes okay we're gonna maybe you can help me love it like it a little more because that's it's just it's just bugging me yeah maybe in a bit and I think you've got a thirty years a stupid story that rightly because we've not because I thought now what we might be able to do since is our last week of of October we've kind of been a little negligent with our home improvement horror stories but I think we're gonna make up for all today get out your Willys here we go yeah while and you know so this this nasty you know this this rough weather rolled through and honestly I think you know now personally we used to have this leak in my we had a flat area of my roof that was an ongoing problem wait you know for years and it just every time the the it rained I was just nervous I'm like oh my gosh what's going to happen next eventually we got it fixed it cost a little money but now it's I don't even think about it anymore and I've got a certain sense of peace you know certain peace of mind and I feel like why don't we try to help people with that honestly it wasn't I should have fixed it like ten years ago but I you know whatever but yeah these things don't heal themselves right and of you know with the Memphis or basically any place in the south I'm I'm really gonna throw all of us in the same category here yeah you know whether can come pretty much from any direction right and like you said at your house you didn't get that much rain at my house yeah it's it's frogs city we got absolutely pounded and I don't live all that horribly far from you now and so you know welcome you know welcome to the rain bands and how they lay out and especially in the final the slope of your roof there you go so much to do with whether or not you're gonna get a leak yeah of because that rain it I would love to say that it always comes in from the west and we all know that it doesn't now if you got it yeah because it could circle around it depending on where you know you get a push back yeah get straight line winds you know you might have thirty forty mile an hour winds coming from the south literally blowing water under your shingles yeah yeah or up over the sighting and oh my gosh so Alan so that you know so I guess let's just start on the roof so it's not the fault it's not the most fun thing to do but you know there's tar up there there's flashing there's things that can go that can you know the the the sun can drive him out and everything so what are some good things to do maybe once a year just to so that when this big brain comes you're not going to be stressed out about it and well number one is yeah I always say you don't go get a couple of friends the only bright bubble with pizza yeah and well I say that because you always want have a safety person yeah if you're going to get up on the roof I you know a understand the roof that you have if you've got a you know steeply sloped roof you may want to call a professional yeah of mostly in the south we have twenty degree thirty degree thirty five degree slope proves and you can walk around on this perfectly safely yeah where some good tennis shoes and they're even they even making specific roofing **** all out can I chime in on that the you're you're absolutely right about that there's because sometimes we don't think about that we were like okay well I'm just gonna put my boots on our management my whatever I have these converse all stars those are the worst things you could wear on a route those single slide but then I've got these other shoes that have just the right kind of rubber to him and they grow up really well and so you got to really think that out and you know also some boots don't let your ankles move very well I know you know you need you need some flexibility when you're on a roll it is you definitely I think there are issues yeah yeah if you get up there and you feel like you're sliding stomp on down yeah I I I know you know being being of the male persuasion we occasionally have that we'll all go ahead and do it anyway you know yeah as you slide off of there you're gonna noon now you're lucky you're gonna regret that yeah of biggest things to do is of course look at any age it and get enters regions are yeah get rid of debris and of behind chimneys one of my favorite pet peeves and of places like Memphis Vicksburg Jackson where you get a lot of a lot of leaf not a lot of trees close to the house yeah you can have some leaf piles behind those chimneys the size of Charlie Brown specials yeah he's good run twenty feet beyond where they what they start on the roof yeah you're absolutely right that and it's just one of those design issues I mean there's really nowhere else to put the Japanese so you have to have it there but I know what you mean it will theory has it though if the leaves were nice and dry they would just blow off the roof around you know around everything but the trick is like a day like today where it's buckling down water yeah and we got good wins well let's turn leaves off the trees and literally plastering them to your roof right yeah so it's a big a big wet a big wet key word wet pile it is now pushed up against the flashing around the roof yeah those holding the water there it's keeping stuff moist and I've even seen small forest yeah growing up on people's well I've seen that yeah especially in in gutters and things like that so yeah yeah you're just tuning in we're talking about protecting yourself from this nasty weather that we've had this week and really just giving yourself peace of mind with a lot of things are just maintenance in there is getting up there and doing it but I and then of course our when you get up to those intersections those those are really the vulnerable spots like we have a Bally's or if you have any any flashing or you know any type of tar that comes in contact now let me ask you this because on some flashing I've spoke to roofers because I'm not a roofer but you know I know you've you've got enough experience with this and but are they told me don't go nuts with the tar because it can dry out and exit you know there's some areas where the flashing is just doing its job and leave it alone is that right like don't go nuts and in Pyle things up because they can actually make it worse or don't create a dam where there's not one exactly yeah season people get up there like all we're going to slap this an and it'll never you know of all right remember the trick to a roof of roof isn't actually amazing piece of engineering yeah not making they work on a slate is honestly of it you know basically it is designed to not prevent water but just aim it exactly yeah yeah it's so push it that way if your roof is working fine if your roof is working fine and has no damage and that's really all you're looking for well and maybe the brittleness of the shake shingles things like that course you know how old is your roof yeah how many rooms do you have on the house right that's another one yeah of you know these are just things you just need to be aware of so if you've got let's say on average about a ten year old roof so you really don't have any issues you're really not going up on the roof to do a lot of work you're just going up there to get again get rid of the debris yeah kind of look at your junctions look at the spots that do have taller or call yeah make sure that's in good shape yeah and of course we're looking out for your favorite buddies and the whole time now I knew it yeah Hey you know we were going you know squirrel said to go in there well that's true but yeah but Alan I would see for this you know like that let's call it a a roof tune up like once a year because you know maybe it's worth a few hundred Bucks to just get a roofer over there and they can hit any vulnerable areas and it doesn't mean they have to you know read everything we're not really talking to getting up there and doing serious work we're just taking a look right making sure nothing's come loose yeah of nothing's been added and you know and guys will you don't ever really look at your roof on a day to day basis yeah so a good one to your check up not a bad idea yeah absolutely so okay so we're gonna yeah so I I think what we'll do today on what kind of work our way from the top to the bottom you know on this stuff but we got a ready rich on the line and apparently rich has an update Hey rich Hey rich we're gonna we're gonna be coming up on a break soon but we want to we want to tease this a little bit so what's going on it says it says you have an update on your car on your construction project absolutely well I have dubbed this the product as the the geriatric general contractors lament there's a limit now okay well of course the problem with this is getting it yet subcontracted to work for you is is a trick the if you if your product is too small yeah not really interested in coming in and doing it because they need to make money and you know if it's too small project they say once you have a handy man course manner not all heavy men are capable of handling the kind of think that they need to be done however yeah we have complex fully completed the outer project which was the the hot tub inflation and the billion over the top of it that is completed this working of operational lovely and now it was an important milestone yeah yeah I need to be able to so can comfort yeah did all of that who is delayed the the implementation of the Florida room type when doing at all around the living a billion yeah so now we've got a design that going to work it's easy to implement we've got the windows all worked out with the supplier we know exactly what we're gonna do we got the sizes worked out we just need to get someone to come and build the the the framing for it yeah here we go Allen this is where it's gone okay now rich no no no no Rick recriminations now before you throw me under the bus you told me that we're waiting on the windows because I don't want to build anything to the windows are in is that I mean it's all they tell they arrive so I know exactly what size were dealing with so have they arrived they can be here in a week now okay so that's not an issue gotcha okay I've been working with a group in the airport area who are longtime supplied to the thing they gave me exact mentioned this is it'll what's that the act okay so them perhaps excellent if you're interested in that sort of thing they can give you a an exact I need a commitment from well if you're interested that's fine whatever contractor decides he wants to do is send you to commit but update when they can do it for now gotcha we'll be there okay the windows but then I don't want to have to sit around for two weeks in two weeks trying to schedule someone to build things and this is where the the general contracting headache begins yeah because you're the general contractor on.

"In three two two over the New York Rangers Tom gave me this stat. And it leads to a question. I'm gonna ask both Tom and paulie on the other side of the glass, and then we go right back out to your telephone calls. One eight seven seven three three seven six six six six to one. The last time the Metropolitans had a player with over a hundred RBI is twenty ten David Wright, eight years without somebody getting to one hundred RBI is. So let me ask the two guys on the other side of the glass who were just going back and forth with Dominic Smith and Lonzo among those two has a better chance of getting one hundred RBI's before the other Alonzo or Dominic cement, it's Alonzo. Not even. Ali. I mean, listen judging on what you've seen is probably Lonzo. But if Dom Smith is up here for a month, and he has a month head start over lines zones. Probably Dominic and how about this one Alex Cora says Peter Lonzo might be the best hitter in Florida not for the Mets in Florida, obviously hyperbole, but still it shows you that this guy is a guy that people will fear something the Mets haven't had in a long time could change the culture of the line want that I want that. I want the fear, but everyone just wanting to give up on Dominic Smith right now at twenty three is absurd to me. It's absurd. Well, you could carry both. If the if the Mets, they probably will a flowery doesn't is not healthy. Correct. It's not healthy because the Mets are never healthy. Right. No, right. To the phones. Dave is calling from Komag. And yes, Dave dowries? I know I know how you are Stevie. I basically try to keep it in perspective because the oldest debates the imploded anytime the way things are going well earlier today, and they won't mention his name to protect the guilty. There was somebody who was really surmise saying that there is a very looking at the glass half empty that. There is a very good chance. The Icelanders will not make the post season. I brought I brought the comment from this individual up to Michael Carver who is on this tenth floor of three forty five Hudson street where wins, and we're WFAN and where the CBS sports radio network is located Michael Carver diehard Icelander fan. Since birth and thinks that it is absolute baloney hogwash that the Icelanders from anyone will not make the playoffs. He thinks not only will they make the playoffs. They're going to go further than round number one. Your comments day by comments are like I said the lawyer Reuben last night before I cut off because of the twenty twenty. Yes that. I don't think they're making it that in the first round. I think the island is are are basically a potential colossal failure. Because of the fact that right now that no discipline. No.

"Three two one. Movement is. Ben Shapiro show. And you can right. Right. Welcome. This is the Ben Shapiro show. A lot coming up for you this hour, we're going to get into the illegal immigration surge at the border weird. The media are suddenly reporting it, plus the Democrats ignore anti-semitism to build their durable coalition. But we begin today with Michael Jackson. There's been a cultural shift that's been happening. A cultural moment that's been happening surrounding Michael Jackson. It's way past due. And it is testament to the innate ability of human beings to cover for people that they consider talented. There's something in psychology called the halo effect, the halo effect, essentially suggests that if you think somebody is good at one thing. It means you think they are good at all things tend to think the beautiful people are smart. You tend to think that people who are smart one thing are smart at all the things. We tend to think that rich people know what they're doing when it comes to everything. And this is a normal human tendency. We tend to make snap judgments about people. And then we take those judgments too Farley generalized, more broadly. Well, Michael, Michael Jackson, immensely talented human being. Evil pedophile. Those things are true of Michael Jackson. At least if the allegations are to be believed, which all evidence suggests they should be and people are having a really tough time. Connecting those two they're having a really tough time, overcoming the cognitive dissonance of I like, Michael Jackson's music, and I was a big fan of his when I was ten with Michael Jackson was an evil human being who preyed upon children. Now. Both of those things can be true. And this new documentary leaving Neverland on HBO, which I've been watching is indeed extraordinarily upsetting it demonstrates. How depraved Michael Jackson was there's a piece in national review by Kyle Smith talking about this. He says debut in March third and fourth after a previous series of screening at the Sundance film festival. This enraging film by John Reid inspired a lawsuit against the pay cable channel from Jackson's estate which desperately wants people to see a story that may significantly diminish. The value of his brand. It's a wonder there's any brand left to defend given that four men have now made detailed credible claim. The Jackson sexually abused them as minors over extended. Periods of time Tim save chocolate child actor I met Jackson at nine while filming a famous nineteen Eighty-eight Pepsi commercial in which is excited leagues. Examining Jackson's dressing room when singer pops in the commercial save Chuck says generally captured his first glimpse of the celebrity around the same time ropes and then five Matt Jackson after putting on a dazzling performance in a dance contest in Australia, causing the senior to bring the boy on stage for concerts and invite him to show his moves in front of a huge crowd on the Australian tour will entail Jackson invited the boy to look him up in LA sometime driven by his mother joy, the family managed to make contact with Jackson on vacation when the boy was seven Jackson immediately invited the Robeson family to stay at his huge rash. Neverland weighed in his ten year old sister were allowed to sleep in Jackson's room days, later, Jackson, talk, the family into allowing way to stay behind with him while the rest of the family went to the Grand Canyon you and I were brought together by God. Robeson recalls Jackson saying we were meant to be together. And this is us showing each other that we love each other. This is how we show our love Jackson and fondled the boy and guided the. Child to his own genitals and Jackson initiated oral sex and guided the boy to follow suit Robeson recalls Jackson, telling him other people are ignorant and they're stupid. They never understand if they ever found out what we were doing. We'd be pulled apart hit. I would go to jail for the rest of our lives later at Jackson's coaxing after Jackson called weight every day for two years and kept him on the phone for up to seven hours at a time. Try simply moved with Wade entered daughter from Australia to so Cal her husband other son behind a move that ultimately destroyed the family. Wade's father would later commit suicide. Save trucks story follows a similar pattern recalls being lured quickly into Jackson's bed at age ten his mother Stephanie was disarmed by Jackson fouled like demeanor and began thinking of the popstar as her own son. Save trucks memories of Jackson sexual abuse are familiar to Robson's Jackson staged a mock wedding ceremony. Robeson recalls in which the singer presented the boy with a ring lined with diamonds reward me with jewelry for doing sexual acts for him. You'll remember the nineteen nine hundred he settled civil suit for twenty three million dollars after being accused of sexual. Abused by Jordan Chandler, who was arrested in two thousand three again on charges of molesting a thirteen year old Gavin thirteen year old Gavin our visa, a cancer stricken, boy, he had met through charity during his criminal trial Jackson, urge both save try and Robeson. Now Dulce testified he had done nothing. Inappropriate with them safe truck, simply declined and in his silence, he incurred Jackson's wrath. He threatened me with my with his warriors and said I had perjured myself years ago. He recalls the lawyers would get me. He says Jackson told him at the same time ropes recall. She was still somewhat attached to Jackson he panicked at the thought of the singer in prison, and what might happen to him there. Perhaps Jackson would even be murdered behind bars. He thought so he lied offering false testimony that Jackson had not done anything sexual to him for Gavin. I wish I was a place where I could tell the truth and be a comrade with him Robeson says now I just wasn't ready his testimony, and that of actor MacAulay Culkin another who spent a lot of times Jackson as a boy, probably swayed. The jury acquitted on all councillors Jackson in two thousand and five and died, of course in two thousand nine the the final forty five minutes. Or so of the documentary does delve into the depression and torments as well as that of their mothers, each room searches are sold excruciatingly, they're bunch of lessons to be learned here. Well, some of those lessons include again our capacity for cognitive dissonance. Blinding us to the reality about human beings. Second the worship of celebrity that we have in our society, the rise of and entertainment culture that put celebrities before our faces all the time makes us think that we know celebrities used to be the people who are very famous felt distance in far off now people who are very famous you'll very close to us. And so it's very difficult for us to believe that those people could actually be evil and participating in acid evil that sort of stuff is is something that we all ought to keep in mind, whether we are talking politics or entertainment, when we're when we're engaging with public world that is deeply important for us to recognize that human beings are still human beings, even if they are rich powerful and famous, and maybe even more so than because rich because fame and wealth and power these things allow people to gratify the worst urges and lead other people to to basically, give them the okay to do. So. So thinking, of course, that the person wouldn't be rich powerful and famous unless they were also morally good now also has raised sincerest issues about pedophilia itself. And it demonstrates what we have lost as a society when we decided that biological urges on any level. Our incentive to are basically an excuse to do what we want. We have a very weird divide in the in the western psyche right now when it comes to biological urges on the one hand, we believe the biological urges. Give us moral impetus to do the things that we want to do. So if you wanna have sex before marriage of a biological impetus to have sex before marriage that means it's okay to have sex before marriage at the same time, they're obvious biological urges. That people don't want to give the go-ahead to because they're in fact evil, so if a man has a biological urge to rape a woman, then we say, no, you're not allowed to do that your evil your biological urge does not overcome. And yet it's that broad blanket statement that biological urges are somehow an excuse that and the lady Gaga morality born this way is somehow an excuse for behave this way, that's deeply troubling. Now. Getting I'm not comparing homosexuality to pedophilia because they are completely not the. Same thing. One consenting relationship between two adults and another is the exploitation of child the point that I'm making is that as a general rule society that fails to draw more lines around things like consent, and instead draws more lines around things like biological drive or biological urges a society that is going to fall apart at the seams. And it seems that we are moving in that direction that we have failed to allow morality to guide our views of personal behavior. And what once we don't start setting human limits to the biological urges that we have we got ourselves into very serious. Trouble. The reason I'm bringing this up is there is a column from Dalia Lithuania quiz, a legal analyst, very famous legal analyst actually writing over at slate dot com in which she has a piece called is pedophilia a crime or an illness. We've never quite known whether child molester should be treated as sick people are punished as criminals. She says on Sunday HBO, premiers finding Neverland again for all the wrong reasons, we can't take our eyes off Michael Jackson, whether or not the allegations are substantiated. The question is in the air is pedophilia. A disease to be treated or crimes to be punished are people who seduce minors sick or evil are currently medical systems. Blurb both us we call for the most Konia punishments life imprisonment castration permanent exile, precisely because we've you these axes morally heinous yet also driven by uncontrollable, biological urges. If sex with children is truly the product of freely made moral decisions than we deal with it for the criminal Justice system. But if it is genetically over determine impulse in uncontrollable urge nestled in our DNA, then punishing pedophile must be morally wrong this with Alli Olympic rights as science and culture. Increasingly medical is is bad behavior. Finding a neurological component to everything from alcoholism to youth violence. We run the parallel risks of either absolving everyone for everything or punishing criminals or no guiltier than cancer patients. What science has revealed says about the moral medical roots of pedophile is of course. I am big use. What is clear is that the binary choice laid out above an over-simplification the medical community, which started to view pedophilia as a disease rather than a crime in the nineteenth century has amassed evidence that at least some violent and antisocial behaviors have genetic links. Signposts researchers have been unable to isolate a biological cause for pedophilia or even to agree on a personality. Profile not to mention the terrific confusion within the medical community and defining what this disease really involves until a few years ago. For example, the DSM for the psychiatric associations diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders defined pedophilia. As only if the sufferers fantasies sexual urges or behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social ocupation or other important areas of functioning in other words, non impaired remorseless pedophile was apparently perfectly healthy, by the way..
