The Facebook Whistleblower Is a Pro-Censorship Czar
"I turned to. Cbs to see what was on. And it was this. Facebook whistle blower found the whole thing to be really strange very staged very scripted. And so you have this whistle blower going on sixty minutes and said okay. This doesn't seem right just the way she was answering questions it was she kept on saying i want what's best for the company wants what's best for facebook and i think they're getting in their own way. So that's strange whistle blower the keeps on saying that you actually want what's best for the company that's kind of a weird way to frame it and so then today all of a sudden the whistle blowers in front of congress. That happened quickly. So you go from sixty minutes to congress and forty eight hours thirty six hours not even who put all that together. Is there a democrat staffer. That wants her to go in front of congress and so this woman who is testifying francis how gin. She's a thirty seven year old former facebook product manager who worked on the civic integrity issues at the company. Now mind you yesterday. Facebook was down mysteriously for five or six hours. And there is a theory out there. And i just want to reiterate it unsubstantiated and purely conjecture purely speculative that all of this is tied together that there might have been some sort of algorithm ix system reset within facebook which is why facebook went down for five hours yesterday. Why none of the people in charge of facebook seemed that confused or irritated when facebook went down. Purely unsubstantiated and speculative but it's interesting and it would make sense in a certain particular theory of analysis so francis hogan gets in front of facebook and she says something repeatedly look in order to save facebook from the children in order to save facebook or save children from facebook. We need more government regulation to monitor the political discourse on facebook so basically she is a pro censorship.

Podcast on celebrating the second anniversary for those who don't know about this. Podcast tech. Started this to help die professionals with various topics and techniques. But it's not just for dive professionals. I remember listening to the first episode. So i'd encourage you to check out the dive locker podcast. There's a lot of great information and perspective on things that hopefully will give you something to think about. Scuba shack is a proud patron of the dive locker. By the way tech also hosts a podcast titled the league of extraordinary divers. Where you can listen to some of the giants of our industry. Great job tech. Keep it coming now. I don't know what it is. But i seem to be a sucker for a message in a bottle story. So here's another one this time. The story involves a bottle that was washed up on the shores of the big island of hawaii. The bottle started his journey thirty seven years ago from japan and it was put in the water by school children. As part of an experiment in monitoring ocean currents the number of bottles were cast into the ocean in nineteen eighty-four from choshi highschool hawaii's about six thousand kilometers or four thousand three hundred miles from the launch point now. The bottle was found by abbie graham while her family was visiting a beach near hilo. It is estimated that about seven hundred and fifty of these bottles were tossed into the ocean between nineteen eighty four and nineteen eighty five. The last time one was found was in two thousand and two on kake. Jima island overall. The bottles have been found in seventeen. Different locations including okinawa the philippines china and even the west coast of the united states. I just get fascinated by these stories and often wonder just how many messages in bottles are out there in the ocean now. Last week we got an email from the clearly clearly came in resorts and it wasn't good. News clearly came in resorts include cobalt coast on grand cayman. Little came beach resort and cayman. Brac beach resort. The news informed us that the cayman borders will remain closed until two thousand twenty two. Now that's tough at a recent press conference to premier indicated that phase. Three of the original plan will start sometime. In february given the rise in cove in nineteen cases the resorts are now planning on opening on february. Fifth two thousand twenty two. Now this has been a really tough situation. If you remember way back in april i reported that the plan was to open in late april or early may two thousand and twenty one. It's been a long and difficult road for a lot of places. Surely the caymans are feeling abroad. We hope it gets resolved before october. Twenty twenty two trip yet. That on certain there's been a great deal of communication coming from tom. Ingram the president and ceo of dima the dive equipment marketing association regarding the two thousand twenty one show in las vegas. Tom unequivocal be states. That the show has absolutely no plans. Of cancelling now they did indicate that accordance with the local health mandates. Everyone will be required to wear a mask on the exhibit floor. There are several large past exhibitors. Who are forgoing the show this year causing some to question whether it should even take place. I know we've been getting a lot of surveys from our vendors as to whether we plan to go or not right now matt and i will be there. Tom indicated that it would be extremely difficult to cancel at this late date. Given the contracts that are in place and that if it were cancelled it would seriously impact demon's ability to put on these shows in the future. So we're looking forward to a successful show this year out in las vegas and finally today. I wanna talk about a piece of underwater camera gear that you might just want to consider. There was an article from sport diver magazine by john widow titled great camera accessories for underwater photography. It was a scuba lab review of the products that the staff took diving at alexander springs in central florida. First on the list was a sea life. Sport diver smartphone housing. Now that's pretty cool. The housing is bluetooth enabled and his rate it to one hundred and thirty feet. The sea life sport diver smartphone. Housing comes with a vacuum seal and duly alarms when you purchase the housing. You'll get a free app that will give you access to most of your phones. Usual camera functions also included is a red filter. And if that's not enough to housing allows you to put in those sealife life color changing moisture. Munchers he i remember those now. The housing isn't cheap. It retails for two hundred ninety nine dollars and ninety five cents. Us but if you wanna travel light and still get some great underwater shots of your adventures check out the c. Life sport diver smartphone housing at sea. Life fash cameras dot com. Well that's it for this edition of wet notes here on scuba shack radio.

CEO/Co-Founder of Anywhere.com, Zach Smith, Discusses His Business' Mission
"So i'm zac. Smith and anywhere dot com is my business and a professional pursuit. I've been at for many years. I'm currently living in los angeles. And how old are you. I'm thirty seven years old. And so what is anywhere dot com. We try to make it easier for people to explore really fun. Places generally thought to be more complicated places. Costa rica peru ecuador. and what have you. Yeah our goal is just to make it easier for families and couples to go explore the world and your website. Anywhere dot com. So i mean that sounds like a pretty generic name so it must have been connected by the domain. Yeah it was an investment in our brand. We really needed to centralize who we are. And what we do in the past. We were really focusing. On one market not was costa rica and as we steadily expanded into other markets such as anywhere panama anywhere peru etc were just juggling multiple domains and so bringing all of that content and our brand into one unified website just became a long term investment in our real vision for what we want to do and accomplish and so new people will work in your company and revenues from last year. We have around fifty people that contribute daily to the business. Some of them are contractors or partners. A number of employees but actually in the united states we only have three employees are revenue was just north of ten million last year. So i guess you're thirty seven years old and it sounds like pretty cool job that you have here. I guess you're trying to make people have a better vacation. Is that the idea. Yeah really the world. We live in right now. We believe that experiences are kind of social currency of today so that means going to new exciting destinations and travel in general becomes a big heart that our goal is to assure that the experiences go flawlessly. Take away a lot of the headaches. Disappointments that can happen so people spend a lot of time anticipating a trip but really the only have seven or ten days when they're actually there and if there's even one thing that goes wrong or a couple of things go wrong it can really sour the entire experience so we're accountable to that and we do a planning process that ensures that there's no regrets

Hendrick Motorsports Nears Petty Win Record After 1-2-3-4 Result
"Hendrick motorsports the first one two three four finish for hendrick in its team history. Only the fourth time in cup history. That's been done in the first and the cup series since rosh benway racing team. You have some knowledge of two thousand five at the season finale at homestead miami speedway so just to give you a little context henrik has only been a four car team since two thousand and four so i one two three four finishing essentially seventeen years. I that they've been able to do that but you know what's your first reaction to that. When you hear the hendrick motorsports for the first time ever in what thirty. Seven years of history has a one two three four finish. Well i think about is two years ago when we were talking about. What's wrong with hendrick right. And we we. We had this expectation level of hendrik. That's pretty high. We expect to see them contending for championships winning the lottery to me to me. In the era that i raced in hendrick was the most dominant team out there and that faded faded over time and it was. They didn't jump right back into it. They had to work themselves back into it. And now here they are and they also invested you. Think about what they did. They invested in a lot of youth right so took brought a lot of young drivers and that has cultivated into a very young team with a lot of winners on it heading into right direction. This is the opposite of what we were talking about. Two years ago. I think hendrick motorsports is repositioning themselves to be dominant force. They won the championship last year. We chase elliott now chase elliott. That hasn't wanna raise this year and alex bowman's want to i know chase elliott fans. Think well that's not good but it is good if the guy that won championship you last year is the guy. That's not winning this year and everybody else has stepped it up. That's a good thing. Now they've chase elliott rezoning twentieth every weekend. That what that's not chase elliott's running okay. He's not been winning expecting to do. But but that's a good problem for a team to have. It's almost impossible to have all four clicking. You know what i mean. It's really really difficult. But i just i just i think a reversal of where we were two years ago. That's the first thing that pops in my brain

A look back at Grindstone's career
"By woods. Tiger tiger is back on woods. The two thousand nineteen masters champion and breathtaking performances. Here's how you count eight. Three two time college basketball's still championship. Trophy is coming home to kentucky. But behind every great hero there are others individuals who play a crucial role in the achievements of those we read about in the headlines the ultimate team players content to stand behind the curtain embracing their place as a vital part of a sports success in horse racing. These are the unsung heroes horse racing full of unsung heroes including my special guest here. This morning lena lori l. who is the longtime exercise. Rider for hall of fame trainer. Shook mcgahey began working with sugar and nineteen eighty-four after moving from her native sweden. She is still with him today. Shook says she is an integral part of his success in his hall of fame career. And lena this week's unsung hero. Lena thanks for taking the time. Appreciate the visit. Our you know thirty seven years is an awful long time to do anything but to be an exercise rider for a man of the stature in an operation the stature of shook mcgahey boy what a ride. This is ben Yes i mean. That's the. I'm so lucky because i get to work with some of the very best horses. Then we have all the best resources so that makes my job easier to the come from the yes. Go ahead. I'm sorry to interrupt you. Go ahead no you go. How does a girl from sweden ended up working with such prestigious operation like shook mcgahey as far as I traveled in europe for a couple of years with a girlfriend and then my girlfriend need to go to america to so i said okay. I'm gonna go for six months. And then when i came over here As far as i freelance for a couple of months and then shook needed somebody to go to florida. And that's why i approached him about coming to where the job while still thirty seven years later the relationships still stands and still going strong. He sings your praises when i reached out to him and asked him if there was anybody who could think of that deserved to be an unsung hero on this particular segment He immediately sent back to me and gave me your name and your number. And he is so proud of you lena. While i'm proud to be part of the things that we can work together and the have because it seemed work. Everybody's important has to design work and that of course you have to have good verses to get to the top level which is why we like to be. How do you describe your role as an exercise rider. I'm a little bit of teacher like you. Work with the horses. Like young children and my job is to get them ready for the racist. Now some of them. You can see them in bombay. You just show them one time and they know exactly what to do and some of them you have to practice over and over and over again just like that like how children can be not everybody learns the same way so my job was something going on. Yeah it's such a great way to put it. I love that being a teacher working with these young horses. Getting them to to develop mentally and physically i i would imagine. It's about both of those right. Oh absolutely and that's i think that's the biggest difference between regular horses good horses and really great tortoises that great horses have special mind they have a special mindset. They used it really enjoy their work. They understand what you wanted to do. So a lotta times my horse. My job is easy because they already wanna do right now and out the other horses that you really have to practice with and have to do the things a lot more slow as it's as more of a challenge because towns on if you are yeah yeah there has to be more development. If you're the teacher tell me about some of your your price pupils if you will.
Ryan Braun's Tainted Legacy on the Eve of His Retirement
"Ryan braun told some reporters who cover the brewers that he is almost certainly going to be retired. It's not a surprise. He's thirty seven years old This is someone who at three hundred and fifty two home runs in his career to ninety-six average and mvp award nine thousand nine hundred sixty three hits eleven hundred fifty four rbi. But i don't think. I saw a lot of what really to me is going to be a big part of his legacy. When his baseball you know epitaph is written along with the mvp award. His legacy is going to be about what happened with his positive drug test and his suspension that he had for. Pd's it was one of the worst cases of a professional athlete in the united states. And i know of along with lance armstrong for someone who just flat lied. He one point you remember. You tested positive. He contested it. It went before an arbitrator and he won that a he won that arbitration decision and then he did a victory dance with the press. Conference at the brewers spring training camp. And you remember how during that process. He dumped all over the specimen collector. Who who's calling other players suggesting to them that the specimen collector was anti semitic and then push came to shove in the end. He was determined that yeah. He cheated accepted a suspension I don't know how you get away from that. It was one of the ugliest situations that i've seen in the thirty two years at a covered. Baseball tim must've ask him to be in the first paragraph of his retirement wherever he goes ear. There's no way around. I'll never forget us watching afri- i was in the espn bostering screw training and we were watching in. All of us. Basically said the same thing that was impressed with the way that she presented this. I believe i'm a little naive about some things. But i believe every word he said that day because of the passionate he used and the waiting presented everything then to find out. Later that he was lying was more than letdown. For a lot of people at it's just acknowledged right away. I don't say a may not be in the first paragraph of his retirement story but it will be because of how adamantly was and how through someone under the bus that i didn't do this. This guy did this to me and then to get caught. That really hurts ryan. Bronze legacy mood for

"Flooded with us. Welcome into Wednesday beyond the headlines now, this morning's Mike Gavin is here with a look at some of the other stories you'll be talking about this morning. Good morning. There are plenty of reasons why couples fight, but I don't know how often poor chicken selection makes the list is the first time for everything. However. And that's what apparently happened in Wisconsin where women called police on Sunday after she got into an argument with her husband when he brought home the wrong type of chicken, according to Brown deer. Police they received a call just after seven thirty pm from a forty year old woman who reported a verbal argument with her Thirty-seven-year-old husband police later found out the couple got into an argument after the husband allegedly purchased the wrong piece of poultry the man later agreed to stay with his father for the night. Let things cool down. Unfortunately, there are many questions that we still eat answered as it's unclear from the police report what part of the chicken the woman needed. What did she was cooking, and what piece of meat the man alternately box? This could be a big problem. So she needed she likes white meat. She wanted chicken breasts. You know, he comes home with drumsticks. I guess she can be perturbed. But in his defense, you need to be specific when it comes to chicken. There are many many different variations. He had to say go to the store and gave me some chicken. And just assume he's gonna know what you're talking about. I can relate because I do this fairly frequently. Yeah, we're my intentions are good. I go to the grocery store pick up some items. Sometimes my wife is not specific with exactly what she wants to come them home. I didn't get dark roast coffee regular coffee, right? I was getting cold cuts. Senate got the wrong type of Turkey coal cuts. But the most reasonable has had a lasting impact is I bought the wrong floor cleaner for the wood floors about the concentrate. Yeah. Instead of the regular diluted, right? So I decided to mop the floors while she was gone and the floors now two weeks later still squeak because I use the wrong solution on the floors despite her best efforts to corral sticks. What happened to the floor? It's gone. Mom, one of those not specific with me. I definitely wander off the beaten path. So hopefully, intentions were good. And that's what we were trying to say. And Gordon we love to talk about food in this segment. Pink insulation on a doormats while others said that the burger would be great. If it wasn't covered in cotton, candy, one person thought that maybe the team posted the pick a day late assuming that it must have been in April. Fool's day joke tremendously clever. "Perfect transition. Exactly washington. Order. Let my mom owned a salon thirty seven years. There was so I've seen it done. Yeah. Some deep seated maybe I didn't even realize it to be honest. Yeah. So when I got into it and love day on I just kind of started doing it on the side. And then it just built organically since two thousand ten hour when we moved here in Las Vegas, kind of opened my first little location out of salon and just one or two clients a day that was a interest built it from there. So it was kind of one off it. I need something to do. Yes. Unless they've decided that they were gonna regulate it. I had to go to school to go and get my life. Then so to do lash extensions in Nevada, you have to have an aesthetic or cosmetology license. So I had to go to school. And when I did that I hired my first employee, and I trained her, and that's kind of where lash academy and was born just from that first time and also just my love of coaching and teaching and helping others like I really enjoyed by first experience with my employees. And so it kind of just happened organically with that as well. I'm just like imagining like before it was regulated backrooms and like Chinatown happening, lots of damage, lots of bad reputation. There's like numerous articles about like how not to lash extensions because they were causing so many issues things like that. And then as people started realizing that it's not going away the science behind the industry had to come up. And it's it's changed the game term medically everything that we used to do in the past is like archaic, and you wouldn't even think about touching those products anymore. Awesome for early. Oh that makes you feel really good for those poor clients. They want to reach out to them and Toronto and be like my gosh, come to Las Vegas. Last last year entire lash cycle. So you're one last say on for anywhere from sixty to ninety days shed. So they shut individually so over the course of like two or three weeks you'll come in and get a refill, and then you just kind of fill them up. I know you don't get acrylic nails. But if you did you'd understand the process a little bit better for the ladies kind of get at their nails grow out same thing with their hair, their lashes. It's all kind of on the same cycle. I now know wash cycle exactly hotel party ladies. Oh. There's also backed up. So you just went off doing it got the license and decided to actually like start your own. I did. I did. Yeah. So it really started hanging off in two thousand eleven when I received my license, and I kind of sock it not going away. I really wanted to have it just be more than me. Because at that time. My husband went overseas to play. And so for me, I was working so much, and I really just kinda needed time to go home and see my family, see him. But I couldn't leave my business because I had a clientele now, which was super awesome. So I kind of had to figure all of that out how to get my company running while I wasn't there. So making money when I'm not there on that way. I could kind of keep those personal relationships that were important to me when you first started did you have like a salon? Did you rent space somewhere? Granted I rented space on it was called flawless, and there are no longer in business right now by the owner, and I are extremely good friends. She's still clients of mine. She's a lovely person. She believed in me and gave me my first location. I actually helped manage her salon at the time as well. So it really kind of gave me someone to look up to and kind of see how she was doing as well here in Las Vegas because we didn't have a social circle here. We didn't have friends or family. So I had to go out and get all of these clients on my own, and you know, seeing that done by her a kind of helps drive me in the right direction. Think it's always an interesting piece when you start a business, you're usually really good at whatever it is that you do your awesome at doing lashes. People don't realize that there's an entire different component. Right. The best lashed technician lash artists, lash art. Started the greatest lash artists. You don't have client. Yeah. Just like the world's greatest lash artists. I think the biggest question is how to get clients and how to keep clients and how to make yourself different from the. I mean, there's a lash studio on every corner. Now, it is the hottest trend in beauty for women. And it is just continuing to get more and more popular. So you have to kind of set yourself out. What are you doing differently? What are you offering to the clients that you know, someone else is in our how're you doing it differently? It's like something that is always on the back of my mind was was the business development. You were you anticipating that when you started the business? Absolutely not. It's been a lot of like doing things in a different type of pattern that maybe just a circle. It's like, oh, I have to go back and do this like rebranding making sure that everything stays on brand. And you know, those things that I didn't know about in and had to learn about as I was already kind of in the business deeply, so I've I've kind of done things differently. But it's been working, which is which is great, and I'm very hard worker. So I work almost too much. And so I really just put the effort in and put the time in and I make it a big point in teaching my students for the lash academy. I kinda give them the right path. Now, I've done it this way. Don't do it this way go instead in this direction. Do these things first, and then do and that way they can be as successful or even more successful down the line teach from the mistakes, you made we'll be back with Molly O'Brien, the owner of a touch of lash after these messages on Las Vegas money resource. You get the scatalogical which is implied in is that bullshit. But today we're going to go forward and go for it hard. 'cause we're talking about the Squatty potty with the aforementioned Maria Konakov. Thank you for joining us again Maria. Thanks so much. This is going to be the shittiest. Is that bullshit segment? That's bad. That's right. And then, you know, if the listeners crap all over us, we don't know if that's tribute or condemnation. So let us talk about the Squatty potty is this device that exists only because it rhymes that. By the way, is my theory about soap on a rope. You know, it's actually so true that devices that rhyme and things that rhyme. You're better. Yeah. And there have been studies on this on things that I I wasn't even planning on talking about this. But there have been things that so for instance, if you're choosing the name for a new company, and you're choosing your stock market, ticker symbol, the ones that do best companies tend to have better IPO's and actually end up doing better when it's a real easy to pronounce one and like a cute one. And when you have rhymes people remember the name, and they remembered jingles, so so, yeah, I think that part of its success is the fact that it's Squatty potty. You're absolutely right. I do think I wanted to do a cross cultural survey to see in languages where soap does not rhyme with rope. If that's even offered and as proof of concept what other kinds of narrow besides purple to people every even talk about. I think we rest our case. And now, I think that's the end of the segment we figured out. Why Squatty potty is doing wrong through the Squatty potty, and it is doing well. So this quarter potty is mullets define the device. Right. So the Squatty potty was invented by this guy named Robert Edwards? When she pooped and put her feet on it because it helped her be constipated, and she would always carry this with her and her family would make fun of her and get really annoyed and then he's like, okay, mom. I'm also he's a contractor designer is like let me make one for you. That's a little more inconspicuous. So they made one for for her, and it was working well and the rest is history, especially when they introduced the Squatty potty unicorn, and that's when it went from eleven thousand sales a year to millions. So so I've seen one but how big. Are they you put it? What do you do? You put it sort of on top of the toilet. Now. You put it around the base of the toilet. Yeah. So it's permanent. It's hard to travel with. No, no, you it moves. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So it's it's this little thing. It's kind of like a half circle. So that it fits around the bottom of the toilet. And then you can just slide it in and out. But you can also just keep it there. Can you put your feet on top of it? And then you poop poop. No. Are you really standing up or squatting? Okay. So so here's the thing. It's saying that you're squatting, right? Because it's called a Squatty potty. And it says that it's it makes a lot of claims that it's scientifically based because it scientifically proven that. It's easier to poop when you're squatting as opposed to when you're sitting normally. And that basically. Yes that we are pooping all wrong. Yeah. So the Hillary normally in that sense. Right. So so basically, the Squatty potty a Hommant if if if you if you will I call it the notion the no ship. Yes, it comes from three major insights. It's one we all have to poop. So average insider. Yeah. An average adult poops about three hundred pounds a year. Really? Yeah. That I've learned so much by the way, researching the segment this this one was definitely eye. Opening insight.
