Autopilot is, in fact, a semi autonomous driving system that can guide a car under limited circumstances. More sophisticated version, due to be launched later this year, is called full self driving. Critics say this is misleading as a human is meant to be alert and in control of the vehicle at all times. They're all however, numerous examples on social media of people abusing autopilot, for example, by climbing into the back seat and leaving the driver's position on occupied or being apparently asleep at the wheel. Tesla has already been banned from using the terms autopilot and full self driving in Germany. I feel like it more at town hall dot com. Quick look at the stock tesla today finished up nine tenths of a percent to seven hundred and thirty eight dollars five cents that did trail slightly behind the nasdaq up. One point three percent and volume really fell off today for tusla about twenty seven and a half million shares traded today versus the pretty high volumes. We had yesterday and the day prior yesterday. Of course we did have that coin based direct listing. So i know a lot of people like to take a look at what is doing what they're trading. They did sell off some tesla yesterday. That always seems to get a little bit of attention on social media but definitely a normal process for arc. Tesla's diller top holding in many funds it has risen above ten percent in some of those funds and generally when that happens arc tends to sell down a little bit and on the coin based point arctic initiate positions there across funds at about zero point seven five percent weight so selling tesla would help provide liquidity for that new position. So nothing too surprising there. I just wanted to point out because again it gets talked about. And that may have been a little bit of pressure on tussle in general yesterday as tesla had a tougher day arc. Probably not the only one to make a move like that all right with that being said let's get into ai elon. Four tenths of a percent possible tailwind on the stock today from an upgrade from jet door shy of canaccord genuity on tesla stock now reading the stock as a by up from hold an increasing his press target by more than one hundred and fifty percent from four hundred nineteen dollars per share all the way up two thousand and seventy one dollars cameras on cnbc today to discuss the notes that oil down to three things number one. Volkswagen's Name Change Joke Didn't Land
"From brown and business wars daily on this monday april twelfth. Happy started the week. Everyone you know. Who's been having a tough april volkswagen matsue and as you may have that's mostly because they started the month with an april fools joke that fell flatter than a busted tire is started in the last days of march when the automaker quote accidentally unquote released a very serious sounding statement announcing that they'd be changing their name to volts wagon that's volts as in electricity. Now volkswagen's id for is the company's only electric model in the us market so far but the company is planning to build more and said that all future electric models would come emblazoned with their new name volts wagon now in eighty-three rolled company. Suddenly changing. Its moniker is suspicious right. But the name change announcement was so deadpan that it got picked up by the likes of cnbc. The bbc and the verge and all that publicity had an impact on the company's stocks. Volkswagen stock prices rose nearly five percent on the day the statement was released the ap reported but only hours later. A company spokesman confirmed that the name change was an early april. Fool's joke a joke. I should say that didn't quite land sea. Volkswagen isn't exactly held up as a model of corporate transparency. You may remember that in two thousand fifteen. The company installed deceptive software in its vehicles to cheat on government emissions tests that move launched a five-year fiasco. That cost volkswagen thirty. Five billion dollars led to the recall of millions of vehicles so volkswagen's been trying to dust off. Its image since then which makes this joke. Well puzzling to say the least and the us securities and exchange commission doesn't seem to have that much of a sense of humor. Manipulating the stock market is of course illegal. An even though it's not certain that manipulation was the intent behind volkswagen statement. The joke certainly swelled stock prices which could bring regulators knocking. But there's another automaker who's been there done that and is thriving that would be tesla which has in the past straight up to see the public in two thousand eighteen founder elon. Musk tweeted that. He had the funding to take tesla. Private stock prices surged ten percent. But it was later revealed that actually there was no such funding. Musket has company each over twenty million dollars in penalties to the sec. But today it seems like things are working out for tesla their social media the spotlight and their electric models are in last month. Wall street journal columnist dan. Neil took volkswagen the new. Id four for a spin and said tesla has nothing to worry about the id. Four is five years behind the comparable tesla you'll wrote and the engineering betrays a premature rush to market harsh words for volkswagen. Which of course has been angling of late to compete directly with tesla. Both automakers plan to open new european factories for their electric vehicles and volkswagen group
Changing Work Environments and Availability Bias
"Into start things off today. I wanna play a little game. I want you to mentally or even allowed as long as other people are not looking at you. Strangely to answer the following questions as quickly and as intuitively as possible first question is name a brand of computer the second question name a make or model of a car and the third question name the color of a piece of clothing. If you're like most people those three things that you named you have come into contact with very recently. Maybe you're looking at somebody with that piece of clothing on that's blue or maybe you own like i do an apple computer or maybe you just saw a commercial about one. Maybe it's possible that The car make and model that you listed was something that you own yourself or maybe you just read an article about tesla today for whatever reason. It's likely that you came into contact with those three things. Of course that doesn't mean that it's impossible for you to have recalled something that you haven't come into contact with but when your brain is given this task it fills in blanks with things that it believes. The Sound of Our Future Depends On Electric Vehicles
"The sound and volume of cars is definitely a bit of a controversial point as someone who lives in the city. I'm often annoyed by overly loud cars especially the ones that modify them to make them so loud that they set off all the car alarms on the block when they speed past my apartment usually while i'm recording this podcast. I do get that. The sound of the engine is a big deal for some car enthusiasts. Though i mean i know when someone mentioned to my dad that his motorcycle was a bit quiet. I found him drilling holes in the exhaust. The next day and i was taught when learning to drive manual that you should be able to tell when to shift gears based on the sound and feeling of the engine not just by looking at the tachometer and then there's of course. The safety element being able to hear an oncoming vehicle can be life saving for drivers and pedestrians alike and that is one of the bigger critiques of the mostly silent electric vehicles. Due to a lack of moving parts they tend to be ultra quiet but both out of a sense of preference and due to some regulated safety requirements. Most models are designed with a suite of sounds that can be adjusted in the car settings if you're ford. This means digitally produced engine noises on recordings from race cars electric guitars and power lines. And if you're tesla is a selection of half a dozen different fart sounds since apparently we can make electric vehicles. Sound like anything. L. hundred legarda rating in time says this presents an enormous opportunity for us to design. The soundscape of the future will garza painted in that macro and inspiring way. Most of the sound designers. He talked to were focused on branding figuring out a brands. Sound logo is a fascinating process.

And i'm sure we'll see some comments today arguing for the boring company as well but are those investors really going to be okay with some sort of merger that would effectively be swapping their stock in this individual company for a share in this larger company that potentially because of the size of a larger company has less upside personally. I don't think so. I mean even if you get a one hundred percent two hundred percent premium on the evaluation. I don't think a lot of investors are going to be super happy with that even if they still have you know ten tax upside in the new parent company so it's a really tricky situation. I think there are a lot of good arguments on both sides. And i think every individual probably falls somewhere on a spectrum in terms of whether they would prefer it or not so i would love to hear people's thoughts in the comments today personally for me approaching things primarily as a tesla investor. I would probably be more towards the prefer side of the spectrum but definitely still need to think about it but for me i do have a very long time horizon for my tesla investment. I don't care if that becomes even longer with the addition of space x the dish neuralink with the addition of boring company. With whatever else must comes up with. So i wouldn't mind what i expect to be. Tesla's berry abundant resources in the future going to help fund these other growth ideas and i think if they were to all merged today and even if there were premium valuations paid in terms of tesla stock versus these other companies stock. I still think those other companies are probably more undervalued than tesla especially neuralink because that is so early stage it would carry a relatively low valuation right now but potentially could be the biggest of awesome. If i were a neuralink investor though i would definitely not want this to happen. I'm not sure exactly what. Valuation is but pitchbook last year estimated to be around half a billion dollars. I'm also not sure what musk's stake is. It might not even matter what other investors think but even if under some merger scenario it carried a nominal value ten times that five billion dollars. While you've got next and then the parent company that would have to tax again to get you to one hundred x versus one hundred x on its own would just be a fifty billion dollar market cap even if it was half diluted still hundred billion dollar market cap if neuralink successful while they're definitely going to get that market cap and i think they could even get a thousand x. or more and that's just never going to happen if it gets folded into a parent company that carries evaluation of. Let's say eight hundred billion to a trillion dollars. Maybe at best that you know twenty x.'s. Way way down the road maybe more. But you're diminishing your upside and people that are invested in companies like neuralink are not super interested in diminishing. There may be wasted words though. If musk does own enough of the company he could just make that decision and it might not matter so let me know in the comments. If you'd be for or against this let me know a little bit of the reasoning behind that and try to approach it from not. Just a tesla investor perspective but from a feasibility perspective. If you see this ever actually happening all right. Let's move onto the next topic here and that is very important interesting news on solar so over the last couple of days. The united states congress has passed a covid relief stimulus package and as a part of that package the us solar federal investment tax credit would be extended for residential.

"But there could be sub ceos for the individual business lines so that kind of gets to the point on management gail gets to the point on organizational structure and then really that brings us into allegations and this is probably the primary reason. I could see something like this really making sense for you on moscow. I mean what has he said he wants to do. He wants to take his prophets from tesla to help make a civilization on mars if he wants to do that it's very capitol inefficient for him to try to sell out of his stake or borrow against his stake in tesla to fund that versus just having in apparent company or actually use some tussles balance-sheet directly to fund some of that stuff from musk's perspective. It seems to make complete sense to want to do that. The question then becomes okay. Does it make sense for other shareholders. That's a big conversation in and of itself and we'll come back to that one but let's finish out. These reasons here was independent operations. Obviously in the case of musk's companies those are already operating independently. So that would not be a benefit like it would be alphabet you'd actually be looking for more closely linked operations in a parent company here whether that would be through. Recruitment more flexibility of moving talent around within the various organizations perhaps greater collaboration on different projects. We know tesla and spacex already do quite a bit of that currently. So you'd really looking to simplify and better capture the synergies that may exist across these various organizations. The other one there was antitrust. I don't think that's going to be particularly important for tesla them automotive market even if tesla does capture massive cher even if they do deliver twenty million vehicles per year they're still only going to have twenty five percent share. I think the antitrust concerns would potentially come into play if tesla is the only autonomous vehicle network provider but even if it is monopoly type of situation there's nothing wrong with monopolies legally the only thing wrong with monopolies is if you're exploiting them and i just don't think that tends to be an tesla's nature so maybe they would face some criticism or something like that but legally i don't really see that becoming too much of a concern and again since these businesses all kind of operate independently already by bringing them altogether. You're really just bringing more merit to an antitrust case. I think so all things considered there quite a few benefits that could potentially attained. We'll go through a little bit of the cons as well but on one hand you actually have tesla having already done something like this with the acquisition of solar city and a lot of these reasons applied under that circumstance especially the shared balance sheet and capital allocation about that acquisition in elon. Musk's master-plan part. Do he wrote that. The intent was to quote create smoothly integrated and beautiful solar roof with battery product. That just works empowering the individual as their own utility and then scale that throughout the world one ordering experience one installation one service..

"Why in your opinion to think say like everyone didn't get it but there are a lot of analysts out there who maybe just didn't get it or just. Maybe i don't know if you didn't get it. Or if they were just emphasized if it says sizing the risks the current like risk two thousand eighteen two thousand nineteen at the. Did it like really factored in. You know what's going to happen this your next year following years or was it something else. What's your take on like how this story is misunderstood. Oh i think it's it's a combination of a lot of different factors like you. Have you have analysts that are forecasting tesla to be able to ever produce or sell anything close to multiple hundred thousand model threes per year. Which at the time. If you don't know a ton about tesla kind of makes sense it's like okay. This you know this electric vehicle and the market is less than one percent like this is not going to be the top selling car in at segment. That's a pretty easy statement to make. But if you fall tesla more closely and he you know you've talked to people that have driven tesla's or you've driven test of yourself you can't understand like oh it's cars like this game changer. And like obviously this is going to be the best selling car. Because it's you know at forty thousand dollars fifty thousand dollars. It's way better than anything else that you're going to get out there in terms of the value proposition. So you kinda have those competing schools of thought of why. Why would this car ever sell this well versus like oh clearly it's going to sell better than its competition so on the analyst side i think you have you know they fall more in that first category of saying like trying to use benchmarks and using the stopdown analysis like okay. Maybe tesla takes share one percent up to two percent or something like that and they sell you know fifty thousand one hundred thousand of these model threes and they put that in their model while. You're never going to get to profitability with that sort of what those order numbers some. That's a part of it and then you have them looking at okay the margins on the model s. right now our you know twenty to twenty five percent in general at that period of time and that's ninety thousand dollar car like okay. How how tesla gonna take that and go to this. You know slightly smaller car. And all of a sudden sell for thirty five thousand dollars and then make margin on that so you have them putting in super low margins you know maybe five percent ten percent gross margin which isn't going to be enough to cover operating costs so then you never have them flipping over. You have low scale you have low margins and that's never going to flip over in a profitability and to their credit like it's fair to be skeptical of those things. It was kind of a difficult thing that tesla has done. You know tesla fans kinda get it and it was sort of expected but it's unprecedented and this is like insane. What tesla accomplished so. I can't fault anyone for not necessarily predicting that you know especially with analysts that have to you know have to have something that is defensible in their argument from like air in their analysis from a numbers perspective and a lot of that stuff at that time..

"That's already after accounting for billions of dollars of capital spending so with this race or even without this race. I think tesla is in a great spot from a cash perspective but over the next ten years tesla's gonna spend a lot on. Capital expenditures will through the math coming out of battery day and it looks like about one hundred billion dollars that tesla's going to need to spend just on battery cell production not even accounting for vehicle production over the next decade. So yeah you can be as confident as you want. And the ability of the business to produce the necessary cash for that kind of an investment but if you can raise another five billion dollars at zero point eight percent dilution while it's probably not a bad idea to do that and de risk of it. This capital rate is also likely means that if tussle does want to tap debt market at all to raise capital they should be able to get that debt at a lower interest rate because of their stronger balance sheet due to this extra cash on a similar line of thought. This may lead to increase credit ratings from moody's or the snp all at so. What about the timing of this as we said tesla has actually raised this capital yet so we can look at the at the market offering a from early september to get a better idea of the timing tesla announced that on september first and they completed the sale of five billion from that offering on september fourth so announced on tuesday just like today and then completed on that friday. I would expect probably similar process here but what this does open. Up is some flexibility for tesla to have available if they do want to wait until the snp inclusion next week remember. We're looking at the index tracking funds needing to buy somewhere around one hundred fifteen million shares at seventy plus billion dollars in tussle stock. So this offerings not going to do a whole lot to satiate that demand but could help just a bit tussle says that if this offering had proceeded at the last closing price of six hundred forty one dollars per share the assumed five-billion-dollar offering would be about seven point eight million shares compared to one hundred and fifteen million in need doesn't go a long way but it does do something if we take a quick look at the stock. Of course. we'll have to see how things transpire throughout the day. But right now about forty five minutes into open. Tesla is trading down about two percent to roughly six hundred thirty dollars per share. My thought is that's just sort of that. Initial first reaction of oh tests raising capital. What solution every of tesla's raising capital at this price. They must think that this is a high price for the stock. So i think that's kind of the initial reaction..

"Moving onto the european battery conference interview with elon. Musk then that's was overnight about two. Am pacific time about a twenty minute interview and you did share quite a few things one of the things that caught the most attention at least on twitter today was elon. Musk's comments on long-term battery cost goals for tesla. So of course we heard at battery day. They aim to reduce those costs by about fifty six percent per kilowatt hour. So you on here. Finally gave us a dollar target. We had not heard that before he says quote the long term goal would be to try to get to a cost per kilowatt hour of perhaps around fifty cents or fifty five cents at the cell level for a long range battery and quote so you may have noticed the reason part of the reason this got so much attention today on twitter was because he on said fifty cents or fifty five cents per kilowatt hour at the sea level considering most estimates today put tesla above one hundred dollars per kilowatt hour down fifty cents per kilowatt hour obviously would be pretty insane so he llanos pretty clearly misspeaking there. Just run through a little bit of math year in case anyone has just a wild theory that maybe someday that would be possible. Nealon stock really long term. No that's not the case so to demonstrate that we can look nickel content in the battery pack for the model three that contains around thirty kilograms of nickel a kilogram nickel. Today costs about fifty dollars per kilogram. A little bit more. But let's just round down the scale discounts. You know whatever the case may be so. That's four hundred and fifty dollars of nickel in a battery. Pack for the model three assuming that seventy five kilowatt hours that works out to six dollars per kilowatt hour just for the nickel content in tesla battery so yeah that's just raw materials. There's no way they're ever getting down to fifty cents or fifty five cents per kilowatt hour. He also says at the cell level so even if you misinterpreted that and said that's a purse l. price of fifty cents or fifty five cents. Which will never make sense to quantify it that way. But let's say the new forty six eighties. There's going to be you know. Eight hundred nine hundred of those per mile three pack if each cell were fifty cents. You're then looking at a total battery cost of four hundred and fifty dollars but again just the nickel content alone costs around that much so pretty clearly ilan just misspeaking here any means fifty dollars or fifty five dollars per kilowatt hour so that shouldn't be too surprising with the math that we had worked through from battery day that fifty six percent cost reduction most estimates today. Put tesla at the pack level. You know somewhere around one hundred and five to one hundred and fifteen dollars per kilowatt hour so we can use these long-term targets and combine those with the battery percent reductions that we heard on battery day to get a gauge for those current cost estimates. But it's important to remember. That on here is talking about the cell cost and during battery day that fifty six percent per kilowatt hour reduction seven percent of that was actually four. Sell to vehicle integration. So i don't think we should be. Applying that percentage on this base cost here. So let's say than just at the cell cost level. They're targeting a forty nine percent reduction there if that's an accurate assumption that means yawns numbers here would imply that. Today's prices are somewhere between ninety eight dollars and one hundred and eight dollars per kilowatt hour at the cell level. So i don't know how much the additional cost to go from. Cell to pack would be per kilowatt hour but these do seem to line up pretty well with what estimates have been and can give us a lot more confidence in where tesla is currently and then of course. We're they intend to get to longer term with you on confirming that in this interview. So that means longer term you could be looking at a seventy five kilowatt hour. Pack costing just three thousand seven hundred fifty dollars versus today may be somewhere around seven thousand seven hundred so that's obviously very exciting for them locations for the car but one thing that i do also think is really interesting. Is the marginal impact of that as you. Add battery capacity because at that price. It just doesn't cost that much to add additional range adding twenty five kilowatt hours. There would only cost additional roughly twelve hundred dollars so in the case of a model three for example you could add an additional say hundred miles of range for only a final cost to the customer if you apply twenty percent margin on that of about fifteen hundred dollars. Obviously the batteries have to fit in the car. So there's going to be a limit. But i think as better costs come down. That limit is going to be more physical constraint versus pricing constraint.

"I think there are probably some funds that specifically don't hold companies that are in the s. and p. five hundred More potentially growth oriented funds. Maybe they just filter those companies out because at that point you know they've already made it. I guess quote unquote but obviously you can see significant appreciation in companies happen after the s. and p. five hundred ads them You know tons of for companies and if you look at the rate of return on the s. and p. historically It's been good so. I don't think there's going to be a huge contingent of funds that would want to sell now based on. This will probably be a small little drunk but Probably anything too significant. Especially knowing the fact that they're not tussles not getting promoted from the from the mid cap fund So where does the fifty one billion go. Is this cash to tesla. No this is nothing. There's not gonna be any purchase of new shares from tesla unless tussle decides to do an additional cavalry's off of this. The fifty one billion is just the total amount of assets that need to be held in terms of actual tussle stock. So like if you own one share of tesla you have four hundred. Fifty dollars invested in tesla. This is just the same thing. It's just saying these funds need to own one hundred fifteen million shares of tesla and the value of the shares. That they own is going to be around that fifty billion dollar level. So it's just an it's just a matter of where where the value of those tesla shares. Sit there's nothing new there that value already exists. People are already holding that it's just they'll have to sell that you know. They'll sell their fifty one billion dollars of shares to this purchaser of fifty one billion dollars of shares It's just a transaction. There's no no benefit tesla other than the fact that presumably the shares are going to be locked up by term holder. Now that sort of the snp and all the tracking funds are You know in theory going to be. That's a real question though are had. So here's one from moran at says the stock splits again down the road to the indices need to hold those as well. It seems like the small quantity of shares and float might make things more volatile A little bit confused by the wording of the question. I think i think what you're getting after his. Would there be any impact on you. Know the one hundred and fifty million shares that need to be held by the asam mpn tracking funds. If there were another stock split essentially the answer you know from at the best that i possibly could understand it. Is that when there is a stock split. It really doesn't change too much in that. There's some theories out there that may be. It affects people that have naked short positions open which we haven't gone into detail on that but largely i think for our purposes. We can consider that a split wouldn't another split one really have too much of an impact And certainly not on the funds. They would just they still need it. It's waited on market cap and a split doesn't affect the market cap so it doesn't affect the waiting which means that there's no effect on the share count that needs to be held by these funds so really that would be a non event in terms of the snp you know index funds and the level that they need to hold our. I think that's about sorry if i missed any questions..

"Everybody Rob our here and today we are primarily talking about Tesla Energy Tesla has officially launched its energy service in the United Kingdom, , and with that they've shared a lot of interesting details on their plans in that market. . We then also have an update on delivery for Tesla's latest product or add. So . starting off with Tessa Energy, , tussle today, , updated their website in the UK you can actually access this from I believe any country as long as you just go to the drop down and ginger location. . So in the UK on Tesla's homepage there now, , featuring a new product quote, , the Tesla Energy plan designed for homes with solar and Power Wall. . And Quote Tesla also has a nice little two minute video. . They're sort of running through the entire process end to end. . But basically what this energy plan does is utilized tussle power walls to create a virtual power plant in which Tesla will utilize their audit or software to manage energy storage levels in different distributed energy storage products such as the power wall. . This adds value in a number of different ways, , but I think the simplest way to understand it is to think of it as somewhat balancing the grid out Tesla can purchase energy when it's really cheap store it in the distributed network of power walls and then resell it when energy prices. . Are High that's all managed in real time automatically by auditor software that helps balance out the grid and then tested profit from the differences in though selling prices. . This is, , of course, , in addition to the normal benefits of having a power wall, , which would be to store your renewable energy so that you can use that energy when your power production is not that high, , and then of course, , having backup energy in case of power outage, , what that virtual power plant functionality enables is for tussle to partner with an energy retailer in this case, , octopus energy in the UK to provide tuskers that have a power wall with a much cheaper energy plan. . Than, , they could get anywhere else tussle on the website says it can be up to seventy five percent cheaper for energy than any other available rate. . So we're going to go into the details on that but I there are a couple of unique things we have to understand about the UK energy market, , the first of which being the terminology. . So in the UK essentially, , each energy plan is known as a tariff I think generally, , we think of tariff as being attacks, , and here for the UK energy market, , it does involve pricing, , but it's broader than that. . Basically, , an energy tariff here is equivalent to saying an energy plan. . So the tariff involves pricing. . It involves whether you're power costs are fixed or variable your provider, , the energy source that you're using whether that's renewable, -able , or something else all of those details fit under what would be described as your energy tariff. . So if we focus in on pricing, , there are a couple of different charges. . The first is what's known as a standing charge that is a daily fee they are paying basically for actively and UK power dot co dot UK says that the average staining charge for electricity in the UK is twenty point, , five, eight , pence per day twenty, , point five pence is equivalent to twenty seven US sense. . So that doesn't sound like a lot. . But over the course of the year, , that adds up to one hundred dollars on average. . So that's the standing charge and there is a unit rate. . So you're paying per kilowatt hour. . Think we're operating used to that and on average that is fourteen point four pence per kilowatt hour sources vary on this, , but it looks like the average home in the UK uses about four thousand kilowatt hours per year, , which would lead to you `electricity costs five, , hundred, , seventy, , six pounds per year. . That's about seven hundred, , fifty US dollars. . So all in standing charge plus the actual payment for the electricity you're at about eight, hundred, , , fifty dollars per year and probably higher. . If you have to charge electric vehicle. . So with that context, , let's look back at tussles energy plan and affect you. . It says, what , are the tariff details? ? Tesla says quote no standing charge on your bill, , a twenty four, seven , import rates of eight pence per kilowatt hour for current Tesla vehicle owners and eleven pence per kilowatt hour for non Tesla vehicle owners the lowest flat rate tariff available on the market as of October twenty twenty. . So at eight pence per kilowatt hour and no standing charge over the course of the year at four thousand kilowatt hours you're looking at three hundred, , twenty pounds or about four, , hundred seventeen, , which will, , of course round. . Up to four, , hundred, twenty , US dollars. . So under that example, , you're saving more than fifty percent more than four hundred dollars per year or about thirty five dollars a month remember though that's for the average around four thousand kilowatt hours. . If you have an electric vehicle charging that, , let's say that's double eight thousand kilowatt hours that should get you ten thousand fifteen thousand miles per year from your electric vehicle. . Then your annual electricity costs go up to a little over twelve hundred pounds or about sixteen hundred US dollars under Tesla's energy plan that same amount of energy would cost about six hundred and forty pounds or about eight, , hundred and thirty, , five. . US. . Saving about seven hundred and sixty five dollars per year or sixty, , five dollars per month so that all sounds great. . The energy on this plan is all renewable but where the rub comes in as you have to actually by the power wall and in the UK that cost eight thousand pounds, , that's a bit over ten thousand dollars. . So if you're saving sixty five dollars per month while the payback period on that is about thirteen years. . So on the surface, , this looks pretty attractive and if you happen to already have power while. . In the UK it seems like a no brainer. . But unless I'm missing something on the math here, , this is a complicated subject to me. . It's not clear that this is something that everyone is immediately going to be scrambling to adopt where things get a little bit trickier to understand her on the math on is when we switched over from purchasing electricity actually selling electricity. So . in the UK, , there are a couple tariffs on that. . There's a generation tariff and an export tariff. .

"So really it's just catching up with the previous model s updates. So I wonder if maybe Panasonic had been testing an earlier version of that new battery cell with the five percent energy density increase in just the Model S. but then it wouldn't explain why the performance model which would presumably have the same pack as the long range is seeing a similar increase. On the model here as the Model X. so I think no matter where we slice this equation, there is something that's confusing which my intuition says is likely due to some software rather than hardware think Tesla, probably just did not update one of these things before whether that was the Model X. Long-range version or the ranges on these performance I don't know, but it seems like. Something just isn't quite fitting from a hardware perspective on those vehicles, and then we of get into that same situation. Now again, with the model three where we're seeing that ten percent increase on the long range but only a five percent increase on the standard plus and the performance, and again, the long range and the performance should really have that same battery pack and I can't. Imagine. They both don't have the heat pump same with the standard range. So it's unclear what is causing that variants for the all wheel drive long range compared to those other versions somehow model why actually looks like the simplest update here we see three percent improvement on the long range on performance of four percent improvement on the performance. So that could be explained by Yoursel but. Then maybe you're looking at the heat pump only giving one to two percent improvement for the model three standard range and performance, and that doesn't add up. So it's all very confusing. I would love to have your help I feel like the more I talk about this, the more I get confused. So let me know what your take on all this is in the comments. I think we can just safely sum it up by saying Tesla has improved the lineup today I. Think this is GonNa pull a lot of people off the fence that have maybe been waiting for an update and just like we talked about what the Model S. I think this is going to basically secured the demand required for this quarter especially for the s the three and. The axe with depending on battery constraints should seem to have at least a little bit of extra production capacity. So again, let me know your thoughts just a quick scheduling update here to close it out. The next episode will be the earnings preview episode most likely. I'm not sure exactly when I complete all the work I need to do for that. So I'm hoping that episode. Will come out later on Monday, but it might push into. Tuesday if that takes a little bit longer, but I will get that out as soon as I can. So that's why I recommend subscribing signing up for notifications and make sure me on twitter at Tessa podcast but that'll do it for today and for the week and I'll see early next week earnings week. Thank.

"Everybody, , Rob Power here, , and today we haven't exciting episode. . We have updates from Tesla on almost every single vehicle in the lineup. . So we're going to go through exactly what has changed because there's a lot here to keep track up. . So tell normally doesn't make these broad sweeping changes across the lineup they sort of just update each vehicle as they have changes to make. . This then is pretty unique for Tesla and it does seem like they're making these changes right at the same time that they're changing the model year. . So even though on tussles website, , they don't necessarily designate what model you're. . The vehicle is the vehicle identification number does still indicate that and from those Vince we've been able to see. . That Tesla has just now started producing those twenty twenty one model year vehicles over the last couple of weeks we'll talk a little bit more about that later but let's get right into the changes here. . Predominantly, , the changes have come to the model three but again, , there are updates to all the vehicles which every captain a chart here. . If you are watching on video, , we'll go out of the traditional order here of as three X Y and switch it up. . We'll start with the model three. . So the standard range plus originally had a two hundred and fifty mile range that has now been increased by thirteen miles two, , hundred, , sixty, , three the long range version saw the most significant bump for the model. . Going from three hundred, , twenty, , two miles before now to three hundred and fifty three miles of range and the performance jumped up by sixty miles from two hundred, , ninety, , nine miles before now to three hundred fifteen for the standard range plus and the performance that's about a five percent increase in range. . But for the long range, , it's actually about nine and a half percent. . Unfortunately at this point in time, , we don't know what is driving that significant variance between the long range, , all wheel drive, , and the other trims were just going to have to wait and see once he's actually start being delivered to customers aside from the range. . The long range and performance versions are now quicker zero to sixty. . The Long Range non-performance has been updated from four point four seconds before to four point two seconds now, , and the performance has gone from three point two seconds to sixty down to three point one as for other changes we've talked about quite a few of these earlier this week about the big one here is the heat pump house actually able to confirm that the new version of the model three does have the heat pump. . This was just from one source at Tesla. . So it is possible that that source was misinformed but from my knowledge, , the model three now does have a heap like the model why that should improve the efficiency especially in colder climates we know that the model three has Now been updated from chrome to have black trim instead a power trunk. . There is a new steering wheel electric is saying that the steering wheel is heated I have not seen that confirmed anywhere else though. . So I think that's a question mark at this point in time, , there's new updates. . So the air wheels and the sport wheels have been updated to a new look, , and then the performance model three has been updated to the Uber. Turbine . wheels that are currently on the model y though on the model three, , they're an inch smaller at just twenty inches rounding things out are I believe updated mirrors though I think this happened earlier sometime around September to add a heating element to the side mirrors. . And then I believe there's also now an auto dimming rear view mirror for the model three. . There has been updates to the windows apparently for better soundproofing, , and then of course, , the updated center console. . So the fingerprint trap that was the piano black glossy console is no more at least for the model three does still remain on the Model Y. . so speaking of the Monowai, , let's move on to the updates there these are just range focused. . So the long range model why has improved by ten miles from previous EPA rating of three hundred, , sixty miles to a new rating of three hundred and twenty six miles three percent increase there, , and then the performance model why has gone from two hundred ninety? One ? miles up to three. . So twelve miles there or an additional four percent we'll come back to that for a little bit more analysis but just around things out for the Model S. The long range range actually stayed the same at four hundred and two miles. . So no change there. . But the performance had a significant increase from three hundred, , forty, , eight miles before up to three, , hundred, Eighty, , , seven, , thirty, , nine miles incremental or eleven point two percent of course, , the other big news on the Model S. This week has been the price cut. . So the long range has been reduced by fifty five hundred dollars while the performance reduced by three thousand as for the X. No price cut here so. . There is a pretty big spread now between the US on the ex but the long range version did see a range increase as we talked about earlier this week when we had seen that, , Maroni sticker from a new delivery, , it's gone from three hundred, , fifty one miles before now up twenty miles to three hundred, , seventy, , one about six percent increase, , and then the performance seeing similar level of increase to the performance model s from three Oh five before now up to three, , hundred, , forty, , one about a twelve percent increase or thirty six miles. . So to the best of my knowledge that captures all the changes across the entire lineup. . But of course, , as these vehicles start to be delivered, , we may still. . Uncover some other minor changes but to summarize all this, , if we look at the average here across the entire lineup, , not using any waiting by sales or anything like that destroyed up across the board previously tussles average range three, , hundred, , twenty miles per vehicle. . Now it's three, , hundred and forty. . So a twenty mile increase for the average vehicle tesla sales or about six percent. . So how is Tesla able to achieve all this? ? Well, , back in July? ? We had heard that Panasonic had already developed technology that had resulted in a more than five percent increase in energy density on Tussles twenty-one seventy battery cells and Reuters reported that they would quote start converting lions at Gaggenau Vada from September so I think now. . We're mid October were starting to see the results of those updates in the lineup, , and we're also seeing improvements and s an ex and those were to use the eighteen sixties from. . Japan not the twenty one seventies from Geena. . Vada but if Panasonic was able to improve the twenty-one seventies while they were probably able to improve the eighteen, , six fifty as well I think it's tough to find another explanation for the roughly six percent increase in the Model X. range other than updated cells. . But the confusing part is that zero percent increase on the long range model s remember though when the Model S. increased from somewhere around three hundred, , eighty miles up to that four hundred to rating the model extra. . At all. . So really it's just catching up with the previous model s updates. . So I wonder if maybe Panasonic had been testing an earlier version of that new battery cell with the five percent energy density increase in just the Model S. but then it wouldn't explain why the performance model which would presumably have the same pack as the long range is seeing a similar increase. . On the model here as the Model X.

"Here, and today we haven't exciting episode. We have updates from Tesla on almost every single vehicle in the lineup. So we're going to go through exactly what has changed because there's a lot here to keep track up. So tell normally doesn't make these broad sweeping changes across the lineup they sort of just update each vehicle as they have changes to make. This then is pretty unique for Tesla and it does seem like they're making these changes right at the same time that they're changing the model year. So even though on tussles website, they don't necessarily designate what model you're. The vehicle is the vehicle identification number does still indicate that and from those Vince we've been able to see. That Tesla has just now started producing those twenty twenty one model year vehicles over the last couple of weeks we'll talk a little bit more about that later but let's get right into the changes here. Predominantly, the changes have come to the model three but again, there are updates to all the vehicles which every captain a chart here. If you are watching on video, we'll go out of the traditional order here of as three X Y and switch it up. We'll start with the model three. So the standard range plus originally had a two hundred and fifty mile range that has now been increased by thirteen miles two, hundred, sixty, three the long range version saw the most significant bump for the model. Going from three hundred, twenty, two miles before now to three hundred and fifty three miles of range and the performance jumped up by sixty miles from two hundred, ninety, nine miles before now to three hundred fifteen for the standard range plus and the performance that's about a five percent increase in range. But for the long range, it's actually about nine and a half percent. Unfortunately at this point in time, we don't know what is driving that significant variance between the long range, all wheel drive, and the other trims were just going to have to wait and see once he's actually start being delivered to customers aside from the range. The long range and performance versions are now quicker zero to sixty..

"You know hour and a half long presentation about battery and manufacturing technology, all these things that Tesla went through. But soon as battery that happens, they need to have their article out like that if Tesla can pull. Together a super clean, super simple press release for some of these things I. think that's GonNa go a long way in terms of getting better coverage anyway getting back to the interview Ilan did talk a little bit about the stock price. Again, as I said earlier, he says quote I think some critical mass market as concluded that Tassell Win I. Guess I mean I've gone on record already as saying, I, think, the stock price is a bit high that was well before its current level. But if you also ask me do I think Tesla will be worth more than this five years i. think the answer is yes and So again, it's a bit of a paradox I think when you launch talks about these things but I think essentially what he's trying to get across the point he's trying to make is that a lot of execution risk still exists he made that point a few times during the Battery Day presentation there is no certainty that Tesla will be able to achieve all of this be able. To generate a trillion dollars a year in revenue, be able to earn enough money on that revenue to be valued as one of the most valuable companies in the world which they to some extent already are. But at the same time you on is confident in the roadmap put in place. If they can execute on that road map, which yawn believes they can do well then in five. Years The stock price probably will be higher as far as the fundamentals of Tesla's business go you did say the Tesla is not in mortal danger now, like they were three years ago and saying like they pretty much have been since their inception. So we've heard you talk about that in the past saying the model three was sort of the last bet the company type of move and. Now, Tesla has a clear path to free casual flow positive going forward. So from there, let's put a pause on the interview. We will come back to a portion of it later in the episode though, and let's move onto some tweets from Ulan few days. The first couple here are on the total market for electric vehicles and the growth that is going to happen over the next five. To seven years so Ilan in reply to a tweet from Kathy what at ARC, which suggested that electric vehicle sales could go from about two million vehicles per year now to about.

"When explained like that I think you can start to see how all these little seemingly little things can be combined into very powerful tangible improvements to both vehicle and the value of the vehicle to the customer yuan on has set at best a couple of times. Now, I decide the pace of innovation is what matters and then today if you listen very closely he. said that pace has actually been accelerated tesla right now is innovating more rapidly than they ever have before and their past. These are the details that make me extremely confident that Tesla will have the best value proposition in automotive and stationary storage. Now, it's just a matter of how fast, how fast can tesla do these things that they have set out to do so far Tesla has said one hundred gigawatt hours in twenty, twenty, two, three terawatt hours by twenty thirty. But even just that first milestone one, hundred gigawatt hours again, that's about two and a half times Tesla's today. That's one point three, million, seventy, five, kilowatt hour. Battery Packs, and that's just from tussles internal production they will continue to scale with their external partners as well. Meaning could easily be targeting some number above two million vehicles for twenty, twenty two. That's about the size of BMW I. Think Tesla with the advancements that they announced today to have no problem selling at those volumes. So I think there's a ton to be excited about here. There are a couple of things that we still need more details on Tesla to acknowledge. Didn't really talk much about cycle life I. Don't think they said anything about a million mile battery. This is just a matter of the Tradeoff Tesla wants. To make though again, they already have that capability that technology already exists and being utilized and tussles energy storage products. So if and when Tesla feels like the value of that is such that it should be included that can do that. But hopefully, we'll get to hear more about that at some point in the future, and then the question that I was going to ask our next in line before they switched over to the say questions was about charging rates they didn't really talk about this I. Think they should be able to either improve the charging rates. Again, they said two hundred and fifty kilowatts plus at Cyber Chuck. Unveil. So my guess is that Max rate does eventually come up and I also believe that the curve the charging curve should move..

". Today we are talking about Tesla's possible equity distribution of people have been calling the capital risk today and it may very well be, , but we'll go into the details on that. . Also, the , implications that that may have four, , S&P five hundred inclusion, , and just a quick update on how that looks after the stock split, , and then we have a been a news on model y out of Shanghai as well. . So Tesla stock on the. . News today was down four point, , seven percent to four hundred and seventy, , five dollars, , five cents but a pretty steep drop from the after hours trading yesterday in the pre market trading today where tussle actually peaked around five hundred and forty dollars per share still though even with that drop today. . TUSLA still up post split remember the split happened around four hundred and forty two dollars per share. . I've gotten a lot of questions on why it would drop. . Today I never know you know you can't you can't know for sure but it did drop on the news of the potential capillaries, , which will obviously go into more detail on here. . But many brokerages have seemed to have some issues with handling the stock split, , which has made in some cases trading unavailable for some people. . So there may have been a decent amount of shares locked up yesterday seems like a significant amount of that has been freed up. . Today so many of those people in those circumstances may have decided to take some profit off the table after the run that we've seen the last couple of weeks, , there's been some theorizing around the Internet that may be some of those brokerage issues were caused by naked short selling, , which essentially means your selling a share short that you have not actually borrowed from anyone. . You're just sort of creating your little share to sell to someone with the expectation. . Being that if you would need to actually deliver that share at some point, , you could go and borrow one. . But the theory is that the split caused some problems for people in that position because of the need to deliver the four extra shares which has then resulted in some of the scrambling that has caused some of the share lockup for this period. . Personally I am relatively skeptical of that theory the only reason that I really bring it up. . Is because number one I've heard people having issues with their brokerages the last couple of days and number two to provide an example of things that may not necessarily be known. . That could also influence the stock price rather than just the news of the equity distribution today are getting into the possible capital raise. Then . I'm sure by now most people have heard that this morning tell disclose in a filing that they have entered into an agreement that will. . Allow them to raise up to five billion dollars in cash through a follow on offering of Tesla stock. . So that means Tesla can sell share of the market they keep the money for those shares and use that for their business purposes those shares if and when they are sold our newly issued shares. . So that ends up increasing the outstanding share count deluding existing shareholders but for the exchange of the new cash coming into the business which can increase. . The value of the company. . Now in this case was particularly interesting is that normally when capital raises happen, , follow on offerings happen there is a fixed price fixed number of shares. . So company is going to say, , okay, , we're going to sell twenty million shares for one hundred dollars a share and raise two billion. . That is not what Tesla is doing here. . So this is an equity distribution agreement also known as an at the market follow on offering which means. That . Tesla as the issue or can work with the banks that are helping facilitate the transaction ten for banks to decide based on the price that day if dessel wants to sell any of this offering all tesla spells this out very clearly in the filing saying quote, , we will designate the maximum amount of common stock to be sold through the sales agents on a daily basis or otherwise as we sales agents agree and the minimum price per share. . At which such common stock may be sold and quote. . So Tesla could end up raising zero dollars from this. . If they don't like the price that they're getting from the market that could also raise five billion or any amount in between and they to make this decision on daily basis or even more frequently as they say, they , are if they agree to that with the banks facilitating this offering, , Tesla just set the minimum price that they'll take and. . If it doesn't hit it. . Well, , that's fine. . Tesla doesn't need to raise capital them. . Tussle highlights this point in the use of proceeds section. . In the filing saying quote, , we may issue and sell shares of common stock having aggregate sales proceeds up to five billion dollars from time to time because there is no minimum offering amount required as a condition to close this, , offering the actual total public offering amount commissions and proceeds to us if any are not. . To terminable at this time and quote as far as what Tesla would actually use any capital wrist four, , they say quote, , we currently intend to use the net proceeds from the offering to further strengthen our balance sheet as well as for general corporate purposes and quote. . So personally I am thrilled with this Tesla now has the ability at any given point in time any single day to raise up to five billion dollars if the stock price surges in any. . Particular Day for whatever reason Tesla can offer some shares opportunistically raise some money maybe they decide they wanNA raise a billion or two billion. . They have that flexibility. . The only real disadvantage of this kind of structure that you're not getting that fixed price you leave yourself vulnerable to a falling share price. . So if you actually need the capital, , sometimes those fixed prices can be better because you're assuring that you will get that capital, , but if you don't need. . It and you're just trying to raise opportunistically than this is a perfect structure. . My point of view has mostly been that tussle doesn't really need to raise capital. They've . got a lot of cash on hand and I think free cash flow is about to start to really ramp up is next few quarters. . So even with the market cap being what it has been, , I've basically been of the mind that if dessel feels like they need to raise the. . Capital all support it, , but it doesn't look to me like they need to. . So I'm just as happy if they don't and this seems like a perfect middle ground, , I liked the amount as well. . Obviously could be anywhere between zero and five billion dollars. . But even if it is maxed out at five billion and even if it's roughly around the share prices that were at today, , let's say five hundred dollars a share. . That's ten million new shares Tesla. . After the split has about nine hundred and thirty one shares total outstanding. . So that's about one percent dilution only that you're looking at to raise possibly five billion dollars even if you don't think Tesla needs capital Beth such small delusion having cash on hand as Tesla said, , would improve the balance sheet that can go a long way in improving their credit ratings that can allow them to access cheaper debt there can be a lot of benefits of that cash. . I wouldn't advocate for it, , but they could use that to pay down some of their outstanding debt, , cut those quarterly interest payments that we talked about last week, , which would lead to tesla retaining more of their cash better profitability whether they just let that flow through all the way to the bottom line or reinvested elsewhere in the business.
