Why Are Vow Renewals So Meaningful?

"Vows by definition are very aspirational when a young couple vows to have and to hold whether rich or poor in sickness or in health you know hook goes to. They really know what they're in for. Of course they don't how could they often. They haven't seen enough of life yet of our renewal though is something else entirely. It's more than just a restatement of those original promises. It saying that after all these years of lived experience. I still love you. I'm still in this with you. And i stand here today. Ready to commit to all that. I love you. In spite of your beauty's in spite of your broken nece. I love you still. And i'm celebrating the fact that you love me still even though you know more about me than you did on our wedding day. That's reverend brian. Cockle he's dean of hendricks chapel at syracuse university. Which proud to say is my alma mater. Hendricks chapel is this sacred interface based on campus. The dates back to nineteen thirty on valentine's day. Brian was in the chapel presiding over a very unique very twenty twenty one kind of ceremony. It was a virtual group vow renewal for one hundred and fifty people at this time. I invite all of our participants to make. Sure your cameras are your microphones. And of course. This is the part where you repeat. After me courage you most of them were syracuse alumni or had some connection to the university. Like an and craig drum heller. They were married at hendricks chapel in nineteen ninety and returned on zoom for the renewal ceremony. Be your companion compan- your partner your partner. We somewhat successfully had everyone synchronize. Her it was we tried. And in addition to that we had musical selections. We had a nice surprise visit from ottawa. The orange our beloved mascot who brought some flowers who support you being with with it was our goal to say. Let's all in our busy lives in our lives filled with crisis in struggle. These days to stop pause. Look our partners in the eyes and say thank you for putting up with me. Let's keep at it.

Jimmy Boeheim Transferring to Join Dad, Brother at Syracuse for Final Season

"Jimmy, behind son of Jim Boeheim and brother of Buddy Boeheim will be joining his dad and brother and Syracuse Orange next season. After not playing this past season at Cornell, due to the Ivy League, not having a season, he thought it was time to return to what he called home. Here is his brother on how it came about. Once you started, the season came and their season was canceled and just based off this season and performance he had last year averaging close to 17 a game. 67 rebounds really improved and This summer. I just realized that you got a lot better and he could. He could help us. I thought even this year, but he was ready to the point of this level. And me and my dad kind of talked about here and they're just saying what he could do for us, and I think middle of this year he kind of had his mind up that he was going to come here and it was just Excitement, and I think he just can't wait to get here and get playing. But when people talked, you know about you around your dad's program. No one said like he was the coach's kid. Everyone said you were just another guy and that you're coaching your dad made you work like everyone else. How do you think that helped you develop under him? And how do you think that's gonna help your brother? I think it helped a lot right from the start. I told him this streaming like everyone else. I'd yell at me when I make a mistake, And obviously he's often coach so I know he's going to do just that. I don't have to tell him anything, and he knows what more Evades me how to motivate me, and he knows I'm gonna work as hard as I can. No matter what. So Jimmy's the same way he works just as hard. He's got that great mindset. He's tough, and he's gonna be ready to work from

"Syracuse with the basketball 20 minutes to the elite 8 30 to 20. Houston with lead and here we go moving from left to right. Gerard will start it up for the Syracuse orange popping up top his behind Juro on him on a bounce to Griffin Griffin. Attacking left side of the lane feeds it to Gloria Gloria in the paint. Gotta try the right hand hook but a foul first. Contact as he caught the pass on. That's Reggie Cheney, who picks up the personal, his third personal foul good misdirection play by Syracuse right there. They went away from Allen Griffin, and he ran a double screen for him bought him over the top. He made a good decision, he would have had a forcing off balance shot. Instead, he found Quincy Gloria, who does not make the first free throw one more to go that cold shooting foul on Cheney, his third Doria. Well for one, The nineties, got five points a 68% free throw shooter, and he makes the second use a lot of rim. But accounts is 19 Point. Ballgame. 30 to 21. Houston first offensive possession of the second half. Sasser all we've to Grimes and not a hero who under hands it back to Sasser, Sasser at the top of the key on the perimeters where they're staying. It's zone on this first possession, Grimes bouncing it inside ball tipped around euro able to secure it in the right corner, but eight on the shot clock. Ciro penetrates dishes. Baseline. Guram, two hand jam Ball movement, exemplary for Houston, 11 point lead. Gerard will walk it up finds Gloria at the top Korea looking left looking right now, Gerard to the free throw line, feeds it back out to bay High jump past Ola John Villas. I spins drives to the rim, and he lays it in with the right hand. Easy bucket for Dole, Ajai back to nine. 30. Nice move by Mirek. He's a very good passers So far. You haven't seen evidence of that this evening slowed by that foul trouble in the first half, we didn't see much from his first two points of the ball game and The first field goal for Syracuse since the 78 mark of the first half. 32 23. Houston with the ball inbounds, Gero all have been kicked 15 on the shot clock now his crimes of working around crimes. Top of the key feeds to the foul line. Gero puts it on the deck troubles to the right side. This Sasser Sasser penetrates foul line off balance. Jumper off the hell rebound. Boeheim, Syracuse from left to right all started up down nine. Ripping, attacking, trying to drive down the baseline, feeding two doors. I in the paint ball fake drives inside off the window. No, and there's a foul gonna be called. It will stay on this end of the floor Polish. I got rid of the shot. Then, as the ball was rebounding, a foul is going to be called on Houston and Justin Gore. It's a Gloria did a good job. He was working toward the offensive glass and they got tangled up. That was one of those that could have gone Either way, Kevin They will. Inbound Will Syracuse left baseline bounce into the corner? And back it out now the behind behind will drive inside. Got his defender in there, miss the shot from point blank range on the left blocking fouls called Kelvin Sampson. Hands on his head. Can't believe it. Pacing around the arms outstretched now on his knees, throws his mask A pulls his mask down. He is absolutely beside himself with the foul call underneath on Jiro. Adams has his back to us, and he put the mask on to speak to govern. Sampson and I think the conversation was something along the lines of that's enough. Calvin, Sit down. We made the call. Time makes one of two his second Miss of the night at the line. He's an 87% shooter. Syracuse creeps to within 82 minutes gone second half of those opportunities. They cannot afford that and you're a runner right down the middle of the lane drops it in from five. Ft. And Houston up 10 34 24 zeroes on the board. Gerard Deep three rattles home and just the second made three and 11 attempts for the orange. They're back within seven. Maybe that will light the fuse for the Syracuse long range offense. Sasser up top to Gero back it ghost assassin. On the left wing of bounce into the corner to grind ball tipped out to the sideline. Sasser has it for Houston seven to shoot here's form into the corner. Grimes, three left sides that won't go rebound tipped up in the air and out of bounds off the leg of a tumbling Justin Gorham, who tumbled into the Houston bench and it along to the Orange down seven. Good look there from Went Grimes, but Syracuse have gotten their hands on two passes and couldn't come up with the turnover crimes. Now, just two for eight from the floor both makes from three eyes that trouble getting started because he's been in and out of the game trouble saddled in early in that first half those eye at the top, feeding it now the Gerard Gerard on the attack driving inside. Thanks it off the glass, No rebound Gorham for Houston. One and done as Houston's Grimes of bringing up top of the key. It's been thrown out with Houston up 7 34 27 staying on the perimeter 15 to shoot crimes feeds it to the foul line Extended Gorham, leaving it for Jerome. Left elbow floater rattles all the way around the rim and drops 36 27 Houston, stretching it back to nine. Warm doesn't necessarily have an assist on a lot of those passes he's made from the interior Kevin, but he's made some really good decisions. Some of those missed opportunities inside will result of good passes from Justin Gorman. Right to walk it up now from left to right. Syracuse down nine Griffin at the top of the key driving on Grimes gets caught in traffic and threw it away. It's a turnover pushing up the floor Is Houston, leaving behind in transition, its crimes. Syracuse got reorganized. Defensively, You still set up in the half court, Jerome's to the foul line and Gorm rotation around Grimes, three Right Wing Got it. Cash it in For Grimes, A 12 point, Houston lead 39 27, matching their largest lead to the ball game and a Syracuse time out Houston looking very comfortable moving the ball very well. And it's Quentin grinds gets going. It's gonna be a huge No, we're Syracuse declined. 15 54 remaining in this second half. Houston 39 Syracuse 27 from the Westwood one N C. A a radio network. "Kim welcome to to professional troublemaker. Oh my god. It's also thrilled to be here. This is a long time coming long time coming too long to low. Always start off by asking my guess. What did you wanna be when you were growing up. fun fact. I actually wanted to be a sports medicine doctor really so i have a passion for sports. Okay and really for me. was very curious about medicine. And actually my undergraduate degree i went to syracuse made and so everything by way of my preparation was to go to medical school so sports medicine. So how old were you when you realize that. That's something that you wanted to be. So here's what i'll tell you. I think i feel like. I thought i wanted to be a doctor. Probably as early as junior high. Not quite as young as elementary. But i think i'd junior high. I kinda develop that curiosity around medicine and then i played sports in high school so i played volleyball and basketball when i got to syracuse. They ask them okay so listen. This had a scholarship for basketball to yale. Oh did not go to your obviously to this day. My father does not let me live that down. Okay i'm gonna bring you way back because this is fascinating okay. So five year old. kim. How was she. Okay let's back that up okay. So kim started school at three years. Old ooh okay. And so for. Kim went to montessori school. I started early. Kim was also advanced a great. So i tell folks. Nothing i do or have done has ever been conventional started school early advanced. The great graduated fairly young. I pledged in my teens. Alpha kappa alpha. Oh yeah it's like so but going back to your question. I think five year old cam actually still has a lot of the characteristics of forty something year old count. I think i always was a people person. Okay i think i was always operating from a position of excellence. I put pressure on myself. And i remember this even as a child i wanted to beat you in everything that we play like kick ball. I want to win. Like and i want to win. Not by you know two kicks but by ten So i was very competitive. i think as I looked to areas sort of where i tried to kind of position myself. As a team player. I think even the end and having played soccer as a toddler to montessori school so i was kinda raised in that environment of like you know we have. We didn't sit desk with chairs we were taught to be. Free are thinking won'- the room with blocks and all that good stuff. We call it our teachers by their first name. Gianna oh no i'm burn. No i will never forget him. John berno and it was. It was really cool. My my parents like you know my mother's educator. So you know grew up. In the fact where my mother started as a schoolteacher and so you know we will come home to kids. We didn't know sitting in a diner on the table because my mother really kind of operated like you know it takes a village and though our who is it you know but i think i develop that sense of community and responsibility to community by saying my mother embodied that early age and so she was an educator teacher there became an administrator retired as the superintendent on my father was in public service I grew up where he had been on the council city council but even before that school board So we would have kids. We were sasha malia without knowing way bag win do on parades my were you oldest oldest of three. I'm the oldest. Three pitchers like my dad was the mayor you know. And so they're big plaques with you know his name and we're sitting on his lap and council chamber. My dad is pretty well traveled. He you know has served as an ambassador. Un ambassador he served as undersecretary hoods all. That's where i got a lot of my service responsibilities.

March Madness recap: NCAA Tournament is off to a historic, upset-riddled start

"We are here to talk through the third full day of the two thousand twenty one. Ncaa tournament is a wild. That'll be remembered for a number one seed losing to an in state opponent and for three double digit seeds advancing to the sweet sixteen. We'll get the top seeded illinois lose loyal chicago in a bit. But i want to start with the double digits. In that one on sunday number eleven syracuse upset number three west virginia. Jim bejon against all odds is in the sweet sixteen number twelve oregon state upset number four oklahoma state wayne tinkle against all. Odds is in the sweet sixteen in number fifteen oral roberts upset number seven florida. Paul mills against all odds is in the sweet sixteen dead-leg makes sense. What in the world is going on in indiana. You want me to make sense of this. No shot and need you to make some sense. I'm not gonna make any sense of this. It's been a gloriously. Chaotic and we are knocking on the door of historic and double a. tournament so with these Upsets in addition to others. First of all eight teams from eight separate leagues are now into the sweet sixteen and with the other obviously on monday The most is that could If that could happen Also we have had so the instable a and shops the david warlock who's obviously the media coordinator of all the stuff. He tweeted this about twenty five minutes before we started podcasting so we define an upset as a team seeded five spots or more lower than their opponent we've already set the record with eleven such occurrences were midway through the second round. We have the so another way of saying that is. We're not done the second round yet. The already been eleven games in which a team separated by. At least five seed lines have seen the team lower seeded when it is history. And it's it's just wild man. I actually think we're also on pace. I haven't had time to research this but are. Cbs sports hq team is researching it. I think we are probably on pace. Because of this to have the highest collective number for all the seeds meaning like we've got fifteen in their plus a twelve and oregon state plus eight with loyal. If you get what. I'm saying like when we get to the sweet sixteen. If you add up all the seeds it's going to be the highest total we've ever had there and i can't make any sense of it. I don't know if because like if we'd had this enormous setting with fans and stuff would it be the same. No i mean every single tournament x exists unto itself. If you played this thing again you're going to have all sorts of different kinds of results but is it because it's happening in the pandemic in one location in the venues it's happening at is that allowing for more chaos. I'm i can't say that. It is and i can't say that that's not the reason so i'm loving this parish. Get enough of all of this. Although i will say Oregon state is maybe the most random and congrats to the beavers man. It's the most of sweet sixteen. Maybe ever this team was nowhere. Near the bubble it has not been relevant in its own conference for most of the past four decades and has come out of nowhere to get into the second week for the first time since one thousand nine hundred to

Yeah i mean you can access the the find the information about this survey the report and certainly some data highlights about it through The link through our website I've ems dot syracuse dot edu You can go a letter or contact us out. The one thing that i do want to stress is that this isn't going to be just a survey that we did one time This we're not a one and done shop here It is our effort to understand in monitor these issues in these trends or we've done a bit of data collection. This is the result of of this year. We're going to be doing this again next year. We're going to be able to compare from year one to year two And we're really going to be talking about it in a way. That new else has talked about it. In a consistent manner as well it's gonna make his database publicly available so practitioners. Researchers policymakers have access. Little let's say the sba in texas is trying to improve the services in exodus that can tap into this database in seriously. What are the specific challenges for texas based veterans immerse. Also what i love about as cadaveric researchers that as as more and more than likely search issues in published formation abedin spinner ship is going to become a tink into into school management. And now you're gonna have professors teaching students about veterans inertia so hopefully five ten years from now. You're gonna have bankers you're going to have people provide technical systems. The serb veterans understand it challenges in various in the standard really veterans enterpreneurship. Make sense veterans and understand like there are these resources sooner better yes so so I want to hear what both of you have to say this. If you're talking to somebody who's still in the military getting out soon or recent veteran with everything you know from a research perspective in some of the programs you guys. You're putting on their somebody or or a military spouse. Somebody that's from. The military commission was looking to get started and entrepreneurship. What are some of the big immediate things that come to mind in terms of advice so i have to be look into the ivy math programs that he have few and service or they look at the boost. The business definitely cake is free to. It's a great source enterpreneurship Also don't chase the money. Obesity entrepreneurship usually the ones that successful are the ones all the ashes so would have passion. You have focused on the passion and create value death so deftly lookout Of israel says there's also via Resources such a small business development center of the be box veteran business altri centers. All them have amazing. Resources look dumpy shy donkey along. There's nothing wrong about asking for assistance. And that's one thing the As they tried to do themselves in the one half assistance this shy. No these resources for you and they can't wait to help you grow your business in their free. I know you mentioned free. But i want to emphasize that. They're all free like free. Trample room and board on the on the in person. Staff and many of them Military spouses are eligible. And the view is is is for women owning so You have to take advantage and oftentimes yet for somebody that's still in. You can take leave. Or they will grant t pab tampa stipe transition. Leave to go to some of these programs. Right if you're thinking way ahead and you're still in you can be transition program so rosy what about you mentioned i guess the best advice that i have is start. Arming yourself with information. Knowledge is power. And i think it's through the connection and through going through our website and connecting with resources and networking and talking. You're going to start getting that information. It's better to collect the information first so that you know what steps need to come knocks the last thing you wanna do is like just start in something you have. Nothing no familiarity with or anything like that Certainly i think through these connections. You can certainly get advice. Get a lot of knowledge in particular. So that's awesome immersion rosie. He's a very good friend of Marcus of Mike McCarthy, the head coach. And a lot of cowboys reaching out. He actually played with Moose Johnson, the former Dallas cowboy fullback at Syracuse. He also played with Washington's head coach Ron Rivera, in Chicago in the NFL back in the eighties, So it's I hate having to start the show something negative. Thanksgiving. Dallas Cowboys Strength And Conditioning Coach Markus Paul Suffers ‘Medical Emergency – Undergoing Medical Tests’

"Paul the cowboy strength and conditioning coordinator was rushed to the hospital early yesterday after collapsing in his office at the team's frisco practice facility about seven thirty yesterday morning and he was of course they They called they called medical emergency responders and was was rushed to a hospital right away and the cowboys didn't release a lot of information. I decided that it happened. You know and that he was undergoing medical testing and and that while even even mentioned the testing errors that was part of what led to the problem. A rumor that that spread that that he had died and a lot of outlets published that he had passed away out. Part of the part of the problem was the fact that they had. They cancelled practice yesterday. because of this and no explanation was given so people thought. Okay this is this is more than just somebody not dislike covid nineteen or something or somebody somebody who had a heart condition and had to be taken the hospital. Now we're now we're wandering into You know rumor and speculation but apparently some of that came from one of the cowboys players. CONFERENCE PREVIEW: The ACC has Virginia in the catbird seat, with Duke, North Carolina, Florida State and Louisville all giving chase

"So in our rankings, it goes Virginia North Carolina like you pointed out after that it's Florida State Louisville but you had those in The Opposite Order Louisville Florida State I. I think you can argue either way, but you mentioned you talk to the North Carolina staffer. Recently, I talked to somebody at Florida state. Within the past week and they were openly wondering if they if this team. was going to be better than last season's team and last season's team of course, won the ACC, and so I take that for whatever it's worth but. In Tallahassee they think they've got a they think they've got a team that's going to finish. Fifth in the fourth or fifth in the ACC. What's interesting here is I know and Louisville's also. I think quietly really in on their roster I. think There's a line after Florida State and Louisville another tier if you will. When we get to the teams after that? I listen. I. Have Been Wrong about FSU LIKE I say it was good humor here but be tournament picks or general projections I have been off on Fsu more often than been correct. Efficacy was twenty, six and five when the ACC last season and lost Trent forest loss Patrick Williams lost Devin for cell I mean those are the teams four best players they're not that it doesn't still have talent but. That would be just a hell of a deal there. If Leonard Hamilton could make that happen to combine them with Louisville, real, quick I I actually think. It's I think that Louisville can be close to what Lewis last season it was ninth and Ken Palm. It went twenty, four seven it loses all five of its starters but. I just again legit because we're doing this in real time like just like David Johnson Samuel Williamson are are two names that are that in my opinion need to be on our top one, hundred one players and then they bring carly. Jones in from Radford who apparently might be their best player and You know it could be a twenty two point. Game Guy. is going to have a different look to them this season. The top of the ACC is totally fascinating I. Really do think it's Virginia and the other four we've mentioned. Almost, put them in any order. I can't quite see Louisville being top team in the league I can't get there but I think it could be super competitive and everyone below Virginia they're is GonNa make for an interesting race we had in our voting Miami coming in at six and then Syracuse at seven and it's interesting like. Last season I remember talking about this briefly and then you know pain. Democrats and everything's over. So whatever. But. Here's Syracuse. Again picked seventh in our preseason poll ACC poll. In terms of the panelists, some people had them as low as nine. I think you had eight I had him seven. So I'm more of a believer than most but. How many times do you think Syracuse has finished in the top five in the ACC in the past six seasons? Trivia Thanh. Say Zero Zero is the answer two, thousand fifteen eighth two, thousand, sixteen, Ninth, two, thousand, seventeen seventy, two, thousand, eighteen, tenth, two, thousand, nine, hundred, seventh last season six, zero, top. Top five finishes in the League Past Seasons there are twenty, eight and twenty, eight in the. Past. Three seasons they had a surprising final four in two, thousand sixteen and a surprising sweet sixteen in two thousand eighteen. So that Ma- ask some of this, but it is undeniable that. For, one reason or another you know that's one of the biggest brains in college basketball and it hasn't been operating like one of the biggest brains in college basketball lately,

"So. How are here so you? Holding up in the midst of all this madness. I, you know in the grand scheme of things. I feel very lucky but that doesn't mean that on a daily basis I'm not like pulling my hair and. Try to remember Hala game but definitely, it's been a little crazy I. don't know if you feel this I was thinking about this recently like it just it's weird that it's Gotten Kind. Of normalized on. So many levels with what's going on. It's like we've just adjusted. You know how you need. I think it also involves a certain degree of denial. Yeah. There's a lot of. Yeah. Because I think he caught up to me emotionally about two three weeks ago. I'm constantly busy with things. So and then one day, I couldn't be busy enough. Credibly fatigued. And there was nothing happening in terms of my health, my life to sort of explain it that I think he just like. It was just so much constant noise. Yeah. That I felt like I couldn't escape. It was just like Oh my God I just need to. decompress I spent a couple of days disconnected reading Brooke, taking long naps. Like I didn't realize how much I needed it until I needed it. It's just insane what's happening it's just it's so crazy the politics right now are just it's so upside down and then at the same time, there's this undercurrent of trying to. Just live logic just the logistics of it you know. With life staff and then your lake in the new the noise and what's happening to is just so the upheaval is insanity. So I'm with. But I haven't had that moment. Me We. Finally, we went camping on our land couple of weekends ago we bought land up Nevada on duck sweep made husband myself three-year-old. We all moved to Syracuse New York mayor for new job that I got as a tenure track professor at Syracuse University. So that's like a massive change but. With living in Syracuse it was like, okay. We're going to get at least get landed on exit. WE'RE GONNA move out stay he'd. Have some sort. It's to have rumors, but they going out and camping was the I. Guess that resonates with what you're talking about like just kind of shutting down a little bit was very helpful. The quiet that's for sure I find these conversations give me at least an hour respite. I can. I get to talk shop with interesting people and. Usually am left with. Not usually almost every time. Left with A feeling of positivity positivity in hope. So I hope that that's what listeners to take away from it when they when they listen to the show. Oh, yeah and I think just like a segue from the evening with the masters I think that that was an I'm making my way through the talks right now video. Again we three year olds I just I didn't make to a lot of them over the summer as the timing of it for the East Coast. It was bedtime every time it was happening. So you didn't go over very well with timing, but now it's amazing to listen to it so. It. It gave me an excuse to find out more about you because I knew of your work. But that was the first time. I've ever really had a chance a good chance to sort of take it in. And I really enjoyed your presentation thought it was wonderful but. Look even more look forward to having an hour with you today. So thank you again for for doing this. In in doing my research, I saw presentation that you did in which you and several other photographers were working with. Like Somali the offers African photographers sort of a project with the. National Geographic or. At. Least National Geographic distributed the video for it was it. Was it. National. Right I mean I've done a lot of camps. So was it in Kenya or was it in the United States with similar because we are to Somalia there was photographer called Chill Mel mayank yeah. Amazing photographer. You're sitting down with Catherine Simone. Krona. Yes. Oh. That's okay. I know what you're talking about now we did. So it was really cool. They came to. DC. Yeah. That's what you're talking about. There are south Sudanese

"You caroline on the way to winning you beat Roy Williams in the final four. Don't don't beat him blow him out. Roy Is then wearing the Jayhawk wearing two thousand. Three hundred percents doesn't happen if Kansas wins. The national title in Two Thousand Three and then Roy wrote lineup. He's not wearing the Jayhawk he's lying. I don't feel bad. Whatever the only reason he did that is because Kansas fans were so upset when he left that he felt that bad. That he's like you. Kinda overdid it Roy. You should put your foot down with like L. With all the I give you fifteen. Good years you not accept the kiss my ass. But he's too nice but then not only all of that but then the way. Kansas eight ended up being perfect. Because it was the missed free throw by Memphis just like a teamwork missed the free throw Syracuse. And there's the scramble. They need a three to send it to overtime. Instead of getting shot blocked they make it. They win over time. It was all perfect. I don't think he's got a scripted or any barriers fan so it all worked out for Kansas. It was just crazy. The the the wheels that went emotion when Roy left and they started turning on d do like Kansas fans. Dean Smith probably not anymore but I I was digging up all these articles that are written about how held Roy. Dean is a Kansas Guy Dean from Kansas play. Kansas Kansas through and through. Why would he? Why would he stabs all modern the back like this just to get Roy Williams North Carolina? The whole thing the whole thing was juicy but it worked out for everybody. Everybody says well. It's funny because like just the the drama behind at the Kansas. The Kansas connective tissue North Carolina with fog Allen with Dean Smith with Larry Brown with Roy Williams and all those guys basically being able to pick and choose their loyalties. So it's like a and they have the two best backyards to pick you. Don't I mean it's like you want Lawrence Wilt Chamberlain and all in fog on all these guys deeds method? You Are Frank. Maher or the list goes on. And on Ron Leaning Rosenthal is people end is because Dean Smith obviously like became the North Carolina person at that point but he still had such an affinity for Kansas. That he didn't want them to like he knew how they all know how fickle situation is and how much it will blow up and it's just so funny that they tried to do it all behind closed doors in secretly and like you know trying to get the all the cards and all the ducks in a row and this is the year. Roy should leave. North Ron's ready to get rid of met thirty this year. It's like all these things were just like being decided behind closed doors but they were also getting leaked and it was time on. The Internet wasn't around like it is today so it was all rumor mill. It was all just like folklore and I think that's why I was so dramatic when it all happened because it didn't even feel real like when ruined it came out of the Roy. Williams is here as a kid. It took you know some days for that to be like. Are you serious? Jawad Williams is going to have its coach. What we're going to be the has to be. The biggest is that the biggest higher in college basketball says since then has has there been a bigger. I'm trying to think of a moment that was bigger than that. Like when you said like Oh man this is Ms Calipari or Roy Area Kentucky. I mean but I don't really think that's that's maybe it is. I guess it's sort of the same thing ish but yeah I don't know but but Memphis wasn't like it was more defensible because like he's leaving Memphis using conference. Usa At the time Memphis Day. Just like hiring the hottest coaches. Yeah this one is like Oh my God. Someone's leaving Kansas right after going to the national title game. That's crazy but it all worked out for everybody. The wheel motion bill self goes to Kansas. Bruce Weber gets the Illinois job. If Bruce Waiver. If that doesn't happen Bruce Weber doesn't inherit. Bill Secretes go to the title game. Maybe Bruce Weber like when he gets fired from Illinois. He doesn't end up at Kansas state and may be yeah like he ends up Kansas State which actually helps Kansas fans as well right. Right is the rebel receiver for fans. Did Not want to listen to this. If you listen to this now you understand all this head. It was all it was all. It was inevitable enough about Kansas. Though we gotta talk about Syria I could I could just subconsciously feel Syracuse fans getting mad at spend time talking about the damn champions the aftermath of Syracuse so Carmelo goes pro. Obviously we all know his story. I guess I guess I'm looking back on a date. Carmelo Anthony. His what's wild about. This is that he spends one year in college and we've made this point before his one year in college has overshadowed he's had a hall of fame MBA career. He's going to go to the hall of fame. He's one of the one of the greatest. Nba players ever. Even though he's never won a title. People say this is all whatever the guys. The guys unbeliev is one of the best players of his generation. Whatever and yet he still arguably not even arguably to me but like arguably to the the greater picture better known for his one year Syracuse because it was just that magical he was. He was that good. That's pretty crazy to think about. Is that people still to this day. Talk about Carmelo Syracuse Carmelo in the Olympics in NBA Carmelo NBA Carmelo. Is everyone favor version of carpeting? Say It's like Olympics in Syracuse. Carmelo battle it out for the top and then it's like a long drop. It's like yeah. Nba Mellow and the guys. Like one of the greatest scores. He's unbelievable and when he was on the Doug it's unbelievable when they could have gone the finals a few times. But somehow we forget about all that sort of stuff I don't so let's the Carmelo. Aftermath is like his legacy will endure forever as the guy who We've been joking little tongue-in-cheek about like inventing the one and done thing. But even if even if he didn't invent the one and done it's just like he he is forever. The model of using one year of college basketball to boost your profile to submit your legacy and then in hit the ground running as a as a bonafide star and then gay Jerry. Go ahead oh I was GONNA say forget that if he gets drafted by the Pistons would have won a championship. Most likely unless he took all the shots away from teacher on prints or something but they probably wanted Jamie. Then everyone would say Carmelo. Anthony Bajic Johnson Larry Brown would have ran out of NBA basketball basketball actually Gerry McNamara aftermath. We all know he finished his career. No six with the legendary big tournament run where Syracuse wants. Four Games of four days on all of them were basically possession of title game. If you pick by four ends up stuck in the Stadium in the first round McNamara just completely runs out of gas but He he becomes a legend in his own right host. This like that's that was what was cool about. Mcnamara's like it wasn't just he had this. One Ron faded into oblivion he. He was great throughout his entire career. Of course we get the Bay We wouldn't win ten fucking Games Without Gerry. Mcnamara the legendary rant. That will always always think about what I think Gerry. Mcnamara behind saying we wouldn't have won ten fucking games and I think a string cheese but for McNamara to book in his career with the national title and then of course they lose in the first round of his senior year that the tournament. But that.

"I can't bring this up enough times. Maybe because I'm always consumed by it, and that is the cold. We just went through with the national weather service is projecting an Arctic blast. We're talking about. One of these legendarily cold games cold his game ever in Kansas City. How if at all do you believe that impact Mahomes? Well, you know, obviously played in the cold game this past weekend and seem to to handle it. Well, you know, a lot of guys greenie win. It gets cold. They want to go to a glove. You know, we've seen people do it in the past. In fact, Tom Brady, you know, did it early on in his career would not be surprised to see him. Do it again this week? And the reason guys do that is listen when it gets that cold the leather on a football just gets slipped. It's hard to to handle. Sometimes, you know, the other thing that you know, you got to do. So when you've got to deal with that you then are saying, okay. Well, now, I'm doing something differently that I haven't done all season long. And then you have to ask yourself like is that guys control and command with where he wants to put the football the same if he decides to wear glove. I wouldn't expect Mahomes to do it considering he didn't go to it last week. How it affects guys it affects guys differently. I mean, she Tom Brady basically wears a wet suit, you know, underneath his unit. Perform to deal with the cold temperatures. So everybody does it differently. I I have to say after seeing homes play last week. I don't think it ends up being a big issue to me. Thanks you million for this. You'll jump back with us a little later this morning. We'll do some more football. But back to what we lead with this morning. Our top story of the day. Again, a really significant injury for the number one college basketball team in the country Duke lost at home last night against Syracuse. But that's not the headline. This is that's true Jones, maybe the least known of their four freshmen, but a very important part of what they do. A key integral PC is sort of the reader of that group and down. He goes it's at suffered a sprained shoulder. I he thought it was a broken collarbone. It appears not to be that. So that is a very tough injury for him in DJ Bilas is whether it's called the game last night. And thank you for jumping in with us here. Jay, how would you put into context? Just how significant that injury is to do. Greenies potentially devastating to dukes championship hopes if trae Jones cannot play going forward, he is the most important piece on that team. He's the best defender in the country in my judgment, a little early to say he's the best defender I've seen in a Duke uniform, but he certainly the best freshman defender I've ever seen in a Duke uniform. He does so many things with his pressure on the ball early in the game. Syracuse had to turn their facts, and they were running their office wait further out on the floor out of an operating area. Duke at five steals in the first six minutes with trae Jones in there when he went out. I think they had only one steal the rest of the way in Syracuse could face the basket and attack from their normal operating areas, and they were much different team. They may have won the game. Anyway, who knows I'm not saying that's why they won. But it's a big factor in the game. And how it was played and trae Jones with his leadership with the ball. But more importantly with his defense is pressure on the ball the way he plays off the ball allows his teammates to get into passing lanes. It's a totally different team. Different feel without him in there. Yeah. And again, I'm not a doctor and neither you, but the athletes tend to know things like this. I mean does this feel to you?.

"He's an amazing athlete. You see him? Get back in transition swapped the offensive player tries to maintain under two minutes ago. Syracuse is down one tightest battle has. Other ideas. What am I this kid at not sit down? He was scored thirty to Syracuse the lead eighty five eighty four just over twenty seconds to play do still down one. We're going to get it desire on Zion flick it inside and they call the foul you like the call I like to call. Syracuse planner trae Mark Zoll Zion. Does a terrific job of continuing to force it to the bucket when we get to the line especially late in the basketball game. You got to step up and knock them down. The first misses the second Zion thirty five points, ten rebounds. What we're going to overtime where do is down five. RJ? Barrett knocked down three Baruch twenty three point sixteen boards, nine dupe still alive. Coach K calls a timeout. Ensuing possession, Eric guns. Syracuse the drive. No. But Yuka was there. He's the vendor called the how they call the foul on earlier on the plate was I on he drills that one ensuing. Do possession desperation time Zion. No, they're gonna get an offensive rebound then kicking around Alex O'Connell. And this is sort of the theme of the night Duke would shoot just nine forty three from three. Point range at the top contested shot there. And in the end is Syracuse stunning. The faithful at Cameron indoor ninety five ninety one. The orange win it for their hall of fame. Coach Luke's great team. They don't have two of their key guys. It's just breaks of the game touch. It was just you know, they have those two guys the whole game. Not that we are. But you can you can assume that everything is always going to be great and life happens wife happened to our team tonight. This was a very difficult night for our basketball program and our team, and we'll you know, we'll figure out ways of handling it. I historic loss for Duke entering this game. They were ninety all time as the number one team against unranked opponents, not only have they won those games. They'd won by an average margin of twenty eight points. But it really does feel to me like the story line. Here is Trey Jones, and here's the deal. He's the least heralded of the big four freshman. He's certainly the least talked about. But if you really pay attention, everyone talks about him being the glue of this team. He's the guy who helped put it all together, and that's a bad injury. What does this mean for do? It's a horrible injury do blue devils, but we're not going to act like they don't have arguably the greatest coach of all time. We're not going to act like they have to at a top three or four lottery. Picks in this year's draft. We're not gonna act like they don't have a team full of all Americans right because Syracuse still went on a roll play the trademark zone may do re perimeter oriented without Cam reddish. They took away left. They took away. Don't they forced them out of their office out of your comfort zone? That's a huge loss. However, but trust when when you have. Coach gate, they'll find ways to respond. No question about it. I heard it's entire press conference after the game. He said that when I went down Jones study at broken his collarbone, and they were able to do an x-ray immediately. And it isn't that? So that's good news a broken collarbone. He'd be done for the year. Clearly, it does appear from this. I'm not a doctor and he come back and play some you're gonna come back having AC joint answer. I actually had a shot before a game in an AC joint to play. So I think what's deterrment starts to get a little bit closer and conference play continues to progress if they're going to need him. He probably could go in a pinch. But ultimately lowering the he'll he'll be healthy before the season. Yeah. The madness of marches two months away. We'll see what winds up happening there. So Duke goes down. That's our first basketball note of the night. The second comes from a guy who right now is flat out on stoppable James harden, and the rockets no Clint Capella his team into falling around like flies cappella out four to six weeks with a thumb injury..

"It's time to get up on a Tuesday. With James harden at this point. Are we surprised by anything? He does wait until you see vs highlights. They're coming in less than five minutes. Plus a decision made by a man who couldn't really go wrong. But I will tell you why he actually got it. Exactly. Right. And this morning goats versus goat is eight straight more impressive for the Braun or Brady. We'll have that debate in this hour of get up which starts right now back and better than ever lower Manhattan. And thank you for starting Tuesday morning with us greenie Jalen Ryan, Clark, ready to go gentlemen, were fired up already. You, sir. Do this because we're going to start with the number one team in college basketball, and it was a very bad night insult and injury for Duke against Syracuse. Do get home already playing. Without freshmen can't read issue won the game over the weekend. He had the flu early first-half. We're going to seize ion no Zion. Yes. Looking good early. Twats? Here's the moment. Duke is fourteen to six trae Jones, a critical freshmen in his group. Jalen is going to go down and go down hard. That's a big time entry for the Duke blue devils. He's a lockdown defender. He's their point guard. He's their distributor if he's going to miss an extended period of time, you'll see more loss of the blue. He suffered what appears to be an AC joint separation in his right shoulder. He is out indefinitely back to the action. Three seconds off in the hat. Syracuse seventy five that's a lie Hughes throwing up a prayer. And it is answered at the halftime buzzer. Pretty sure they be Derrick Coleman Carmelo Anthony all replaces that shearing for their orange as that big time seventy five footer when Syracuse could forty eight points in the first half now second half because quite a lively huge rejected by he gets up and gets it out of that..

"And I actually thought I might have incorrectly had them lower than most. But I did have them lower than most. And one of the things I pointed out is. Yeah, they're bringing back. I think it was their top six guys or something like that. But it wasn't the top six guys from how far they going to turn it last year. Sweet sixteen. Yeah. Okay. So that's what circus would always say we got top six guys back from us. We'd sixteen team. And you got us in the twenties. And I'm like you got the top six guys back from team that was a borderline top forty team last year 'cause they finished forty first at compa they weren't one of the sixteen. Best teams in the country. They were one. The sixteen last teams to still be playing. And so I'm always aware of that that it's honestly same thing happened a little the Chicago loyalist Chicago was was a borderline top thirty team at the end of the season. They weren't really one of the four best teams. But people that voted for them in the preseason. Eight people were like, well, they're bringing some good pieces back from final fourteen. They gotta be good bringing some good piece. They're bringing three of the top six back from a borderline top thirteen. They could be good. But they might not. And I do think they're going to be good. But I don't think they're top twenty five and was Syracuse. We might find out that same thing maybe bringing back type six guys from top forty teen doesn't actually make you a fifteen quite possibly. That's it perish. Fran for shila was on the call for this game. And he laid out a fairly damning valuation of O'Shea Brett, which I agreed with the second. He said he said percent is playing for the NBA and the scouts in the building and not for Jim behind and Syracuse. He's seventeen of his twenty one three pointers. He has not looked this season. Like the player he was last season as a freshman. In fact, I think Recep at his best is better than Thais battle and more talented. Syracuse just isn't getting enough from their Jalen carries a freshman. He's been promising overall. Jalen Clarice played relatively well. It's been nice to see. But Syracuse was. It wasn't just Bobo who was who was fun to watch. An and by the way, he he is very much. Easing into that expectation enroll of Bobo being just a different kind of big man can handle the ball pass shoot. We'll have plenty opportunities this season to get to him. And I know that we will. But just a quick note on him and Oregon like Oregon needed that win more than Syracuse back twelve isn't as good as the organ, finish this Owen to and gone home. It would have just put the Pac twelve in that program in a little bit of a tough position. Skews camping a big wins. Bobo look nice but Syracuse overall perish defensively zone. Kind of let them down. I don't think this team is deep again as behind wants it to be so yes, it's too into Nova's the other notable too and two team coming out of this weekend. And if you're Syracuse in the fan base, obviously, you're you're let down in a major way because you were thinking that you'd probably be able to get out of their winning both you would've thought the chances of you losing both were particularly low. But if you take that first loss in the expected happens where ll be to Oregon now. Okay. You're suddenly going up against a fellow ranked team couldn't. Handle that there. So we'll see what happens last note on Syracuse is this they get to rebound and get well at home against Colgate. The annual the annual Kogi Syracuse game, I think they've played each other literally every single season of coaching tenure, which makes sense because the geography didn't they go to Ohio State pairs at the end of November. And then everything else is home games in nonleague play. So will the Georgetown win actually age? Well, will you beat buffalo at home? You probably will. But as fans, no they lost last season at home to a Saint Bonaventure team that maybe might not have even been quite as good as this year's buffalo team. So Syracuse will be favored to win that game. But if you don't beat Ohio State on the road, and you drop by their home to Georgetown, home to buffalo or homed northeastern who I think will have a resume probably that.
