Keeping Kids Safe Around Water this Summer

"After you've had this experience what do you wish you would have done differently. I think leads really well into our second takeaway here. That was a great question in. You're exactly right so easy to just say. Oh well i was watch my kids. I mean i was on the couch. Though he was sitting on the couch. You know ten feet away from me. The room was filled with people young. Since read this line that everybody is watching the pool. The nobody's watching the pool and is usually the settings when it happens from there is a big people when we were just sort of all busy like just cleaning up in things in and it was so fast but the second takeaway. But i wish we'd really known with levi that we should have had layers of protection in place since toddlers most often drown when they aren't expected water. Those layers are so important looking back. There were so many things that we should have done differently. It was really hate to call it because there's nothing perfect about it but the perfect storm in a sense. The first layer of protection supervision. We weren't supervising and we were all in the room tons of supervision. Too much supervision. I guess really so but that layer failed. We did not see him. Slip out that back door. The door could have been dead bolted. It wasn't could have been door alarm but again we were on vacation. These more things that that we had now. Of course i could have even ordered portable amazon. Fifteen dollars brought them with could have asked my husband go sit on the balcony it till we go crap hunting. We didn't even realize. We thought kids john when they were swimming so it wasn't like something that was like really on our radar and going back to the supervision. Bet so what you're saying there is when there's all the adults watching. None of the adults are watching right. So when you're swimming when you're around water you need to have one adult that is in charge of watching one child or designated the toddler because otherwise you think everybody's watching the children s. This cannot be emphasized enough during the transition tons. I'm not even talking about when you're swimming. It is when you go inside to eat lunch. It is when you go inside for the birthday party to open the presence. It is when you're packing up the car. When the cookout is over and the two year old one all stories these are all the parents i know are the stories it. You're packing up. The car from the fourth of july cookout and the three year olds somehow makes her way back to the pool from the front yard where you thought they were helping. Load the stuff in the car. This is when it is happening

Have You Lost Your Edge During Lockdown?

"But i know for a fact that i had definitely lost some of my age during these various lockdowns that we've been through and for us are still going through a simple list of tasks that would once upon a time. They knocked off in an hour or two now seems to take me a week to get done. And that's not just because i'm stretching it out to try and fill in the week. It's because i'm lacking the motivation. The focus to get even the simplest tasks dumb. But i think that's to be expected. I think the k. Lesson out of that is not to beat yourself up over it first of all because a number of people going through the same think it's unavoidable. These are trying times. But the important thing i think is to make sure that you don't necessarily even maintain your edge just that you stay in touch with that age. Think about it like a football game or tennis match. No one side has ascendancy for the entire game. There's always in eben flow in that game the key when the tide turns against you is to make sure that you stay in touch with the leader so that when the tide and the momentum swings back your way you're able to claw back those losses and so in the context of your work i think the way to get around or to cope with it to get through. It is to sometimes submit a d. plus piece of work not an a plus piece of work like you used to. Maybe you actually have to submit something that is subpar. Not great not ideal. Your boss ain't gonna love you but it's much better in my mind to submit a d plus piece of work during these trying times than miss the deadline completely. And that's probably not the answer. A lot of you want to hear a lot of you would like to hear. I just go and do that. Motivation 'cause that time management course and then i'm sorted maybe can there may be a solution out there for you. I know i don't work that way. That sort of stuff doesn't work for me. I know what i need to do. I just after get down knuckled down and do it so to me if you're having trouble maintaining your age or you feel like you're losing your age during these difficult times. We're going through right now. Even obsessed and focus on maintaining that age focused on just staying in touch with edge just enough so that win momentum swim swings back your way. Then you're able to get that edge back you

Balancing Being a Dad and an Ironman Triathlete With Russell Newell

"I would ask you how you juggle fatherhood and training but you make it very clear in the book that you seem to train very little for your events. I mean at one point you describe twelve mile run as your long training run for the season and later on you suggest that you sometimes run quote unquote only sixty miles during an arm training cycle. So i wanna i over know how much of this is sandbagging. And how much is true. And wherever the truth lies how do you manage the demands of helping raise young kids and swimming biking running. Yeah well my friends all teased that. I don't do any training. But i do. I've said this you can't have you can't go. Half-hearted into an iron them you have to you have to train or you'll you won't finish or you'll be you'll being a lot of pain anyway but you'll be an excruciating pain and i don't know how anyone could do it without training. I will say this year. I'm a little bit nervous. Because i have not my longest run. So far is thirteen miles and my longest bike is thirty. And that's not enough. I have been doing a lot of weight training. So i have a trainer and i found for past bones. That weight training in court training really helps in aerobic training. And that's early in the morning in my basement but that's an ideal a stationary bike at home in the basement early in the morning or when the kids are in bed and you find little pockets of time but it's not the same as going out for five or six hour bike ride to replicate what's going to happen in the ironman and it's not the same as doing in eighteen or twenty mile. Run to get your legs. Ready for an ironman. So it's it's going to be really interesting. The more kids. I've gotten the less i've been able to train through. The years somehow seemed to make it through. But i don't do as well as i'd like to do. But that's that's the ballots.

Nautical Names Quiz

"Were here in the game room with a game. We like to call names. There are all sorts of things in the sea with some pretty interesting names. So and i are going to say some names of things under the sea. And you have to guess whether it's an animal a plant or a geological feature and just to be clear a geological feature is a natural formation in the earth like an island or a trench. Okay let's get started. The first word is water wheel. Is it an animal a plant or a geological feature that sounds like a geological feature to me. Maybe some kind of rock that spends a plant. In fact it's a carnivorous plant. A meat eating plant. Yep it grows in freshwater wetlands and feeds on small insects and fish. Wow okay well. Here's another one. The word is slime head. Is it an animal plant or a geological feature well. I've done enough swimming and lake. We wound to know that seaweed can be not slimy. So i'm going to guess that a slime head is a plan actually. It's a fish. They live in tropical parts of the atlantic pacific and indian oceans. They're also called red fish or rough because some people think slime fish is the most appealing name. Okay last one. The word is the seamount. Is it an animal a plant or a geological feature. Oh i know this. One eats a geological feature. It's the name for an underwater mountain or an underwater volcano. That's not active anymore back iras. Well didn't your grandma. G force us to have vacation house on top of an underwater extinct volcano but it turned out that it wasn't extinct. Oh yeah so now. She needs a new place to spend her summer vacation and i told her she could bunk with you. And that's your prize for winning this. Round of nautical name

I love your stories. Woah yeah sure. So miami's omer based in israel and basically the first time. I got really amazing. Training experienced was in. The israeli military is israelis. We go through the military to Here and i had a really amazing experience learning a lot. In a very short period of time how to program and many other thinks and i got actually fascinated by how efficient teaching and learning can be And how much of an impact. It could have and i also got to teach a lot and train people in various places them in a program called israel challenge and i also get to lead a security academy checkpoint and to train a lot of people in many places and then i got to see them many times when they succeeded and also when they struggle when they get into new positions and they always shared with me the experience of on boarding at i to their new jobs and being thrown into the deep end of the pool. People telling them okay. You need to get going really fast. Learn a lot really fast and ever since then. I always had that in mind that someone needs to tackle that pain of people trying to get familiar with code bases really fast and really efficiently.

The Science Behind That Fresh Rain Scent

"Von. First time shortwave reporter. We're talking geos spin which we associate with the smell of fresh rain fresh oil and you said it comes from a bacteria yet it primarily comes from a big group of bacteria called tina may cds and the men in soil mostly comes from a single genus called streptomycetes streptomycetes. I love that keep going. Streptomycetes have evolved an uncommon survival strategy for bacteria. I mean you're a microbiologist. Indeed what bacteria do when conditions are good. When they're happy well it went. Bacteria are happy. They make more bacteria that's their whole vibe. So one cell splits into two. It's called binary fission right and if you're a type of bacterium that can swim sort of wiggle around before you divide you'll maybe try to situate yourself somewhere with a lot of good food for your offspring but for most of its lifetime. Streptomycetes isn't mobile. So if it's in a location with not a lot of food or if it starving it has to do something else to be sure. Its offspring have a good shot at survival. This bacterium is actually very weird. That's mahmoud abbas. He's a researcher. At university of california san diego and he worked on the same study as close as the starves to make sure that is offering will survive it start to produce doorman cells and these doorman sales can withstand dryness Lack of food and then once the environment is favorable so they have food they have water. They can grow again dormant cells. Okay that that means. We're talking bacterial spores. Which is very exciting. Basically win some. Bacteria are stressed they can produce these tough little cells called spores and those can withstand things that normal bacterial cells probably couldn't survive

"Do kinds of people are listening to this. Guy's right now one of the guys be blown giving us an army and second other kinds of people who are also ground. Doing abby the outs so dirty in this episode shannon experiences learn swimming and some swim face. So let's begin without any further. What's time in six. I would say when. I was made that board membership to this local club and it's not been blunt benfleet club right without studies like a semi this stuff name so that they get accessed restaurants league on gym swimming pools and their body was right so i was in global nodded methods access. The swing i live very very by our have been also to have this small town membership to this excellent ziegler so lewis and then the thing is even bigger back later. This guy the book which was the rally he had this love. This love had membership in a club so is always used to go with by the dialogue and go to this kind of stuff right to swear busy in the lab wreck so non thing is i know this now i dose right so he could be illegal magic art right on the lovely this because they go down to swim so being. I'm the one. So the thing is timely. Six hundred dollars. Why did not a word. I was always above the water. That was not the the the pool right that this thing also the was like this kind of this was only seven feet dollars on mostly kind of stuff so i was on the and then the event like this. This was the so since i was three. I didn't on this end of the line late this florida's towards this site. That didn't have been close this right. This was like some like nine. It was the only thing is to look at that. There should be a little bit of flooding. To look at is is to go to the debate. Going into other people must be going. Because i i don't assume positive bill brown and sometimes what happens when it used to happen. Is that time. My dad used to leave the club swimming so are so used to come and leave but sometimes used to go to sit outside on benches that someone might or might have seen the field in my lafayette is look at the end of the boom. So once he got ready did badge will do you push to me of will he do can go by the regular that went to that and then i'm working. This is the who big right. And then you go on low end of polling we just uncovered and you to the front end like almost like a bit of different so he said that it was that the boom expect magic. Whatever this is not possible. I'm including on the flopping helping you latest so what happens is almost immune is laughing on the outside and starting the all round they may last the last. Co oxygen doing implicitly. Mad was the you see what happened there. You not swimming and you will down so what you need to do. Now sticks linked. So what does it makes me and in the molding those when she decided to join the swimming classes to business born but at a different time when those was not open public soviet types of all the and then struck us now. This guy did swimming to other people here. A body of software awesome something. I have no idea what he does is. He was an enormous handsome handsome. We will answer. Let god that have swimming job. So this guy he begins with. Mcknight was the in the region salons. Go to the day. It will not too shabby that. He's basically just doing. The basics is giving bidding exercises. Some flooding inches is very busy day. Second or doing the business. I'd be getting used to a after that was being we began at wants level. Maybe longer breathing. You need to exterminate swimming. So what happened. Was this law does right. Florida's zero of this along with a threat used to overtired. You're busy style. Like i'd be obvious idea and billboard on the water and that is what they made us and we're still on the floor you know the first thing is just and your body was like you're in florida now your body's going down so you need something folded on top of the water. So that's what basically gives the body voters even have the audience relied on the dog. And you can just focus on. The motions. amulet putting in arms across so we did that they can be cleaning. The doesn't obvious how does well and them washington without the brownies. That if you have good without get his because maybe the with the move is probably because they're are drowning right so was necessary then. What happened was very simple. It was very short on the even the formula and then assumed tavern. That's back and then come out from this end of the quarter or that was the talented anyways. So i'm make minor these pessimistic thoughts they believe in. You made this village. Don't will you miss what did happen so again. All the best domestic talks might from violence negative thoughts on over her menu. Being called anxious has done. So i just have a guy who might have were and i go to the humility to jump in and allow anyone. That's action they go to job and then you go go go ahead. Debit almost due. I'll i'll say okay standard on back. And then they start doing and the woman and going back to that after fish.

"You from the Tesla. So the big question Chris. How're entrepreneurs like us? He didn't cheat and take on venture capital for spending money for our own pockets. How do we market in a way the lets us get our products addicts in our services and the things that we believe in out to the world and yet still remain profitable? That is the question in this. podcast give you the answer Brunson in welcome marketing secrets all right. So got Tesla is all excited. Fa most part's pretty cool. I'm not like a car day. Typically Tesla's pretty cool except for the fact that this is the third time now my kids all the school and then I pushed the Falcon from the come up and kids get out and the doors. Don't come up. They're just stuck and it's like obstacle detectives. They're obstacles around here like well. Well we can't send up and so the pilot the windows and stuff is super versing so Musk screwed me my kids in front of their own school again. Why do you do that? Just make a car noses no obstacle obstacle there. Anyway I digress. What we're here today to talk about? I WanNa talk about something that I think is kind of fun to talk about Hopefully gives jacomb mindset shift I actually had a friend yesterday yesterday. He messes me and he's like trying to figure out a way to make some more money and Concerned by this house and one of the money from them payments stuff like that and and I mess him back and I was like. I think you're looking at this differently. I said Dan Kennedy who you know. Probably the person quote the most on this podcast and he he Used to always say he's like if you want to buy some things they send the send the bill to the heard. If you listen to any candy stuff he'd always refer to like your your list. You're following your tribe. Your people whatever as you heard and he does say yet you WanNa go by the senior. Didn't send try. Send the bill to the heard is what he meant like. He'd have made it for something he'd go. Calendar go by this new houses new car go on vacation or whatever. I'm not going to pay for that. I'm GonNa send the built hurt. So what's an offer. I can create. That could send out there to the heard they will buy it and they will bear F- therefore fund the thing I want actually get and so I remember hearing him say way back back in the day they always think that every time I wanted a new thing like we'll send send the send the bill to the heard and It's funny because would Clinton I I I Got Married. I guess we're in our pre made a year honey two years this point as about time that I'm learning this whole Internet marketing game in a member because it was Christmas time and she wanted these new couches. There were like three or four thousand bucks and I was like. Oh my gosh like I'm unemployed. I don't have the job. We sell them some stuff on the Internet Hudson every once in a while but I was like. I don't have money to fight this couch that she wanted. But you know I want to be able to buy a four and so I remember. I made this little promotion news during Christmas time. And I called the grinch sale and in it was like I told them the story about the greenhouse heart grew three sizes and cut up little sales page together together and they put together a really good offer and remembering the office that you know One of the lessons about copies to justify why you're doing so in the copy has like the reason want do this insane cells because my wife wants his couch sentence like thirty six hundred bucks. Whatever it was and my goal is to have this promotion pay for it and then You know whatever and and that was kind of like part of the reason why doing the cell and I did launch and And it was crazy. 'cause we think we sold like the numbers but it was like thirty six thousand dollars ten times what we were expecting. I had never made that much money ever. It was just insane. I remember people buying in this letter like I hope he either way. You're right thank couch and I didn't even want to help support. You can get your wife couch and say this is crazy of all these people that bought the thing to help. Help support my wife getting this couch and a member was funny. 'cause I because After Kisco by the school by your dream couch and she's like that's a a lot of money Mike I'm like. He's just an email way like we sent him a lot to listen paid for and I learned. That was a really bad thing to teach all those years ago because ever since then not always but every once in a while when I want something crazy. She's like we'll send an email to your list because he's learned you. Just send the bill to the heard another another really fun story kind of relates back to this From the B over Paul McCartney It was funny the they said that he says John Lennon be said the one time before I believe help but I might be wrong but and before a song. He said he was the swimming pool because he wanted to build a swimming simple but obviously couldn't didn't want to pay for it so we send the bill to the hurt he Minnesota Shanty Mayes. Sorry about that anyway. So he said the school right ourselves swing pulley sat down and wrote a song and then launched it and it made enough money more than enough to pay for their swimming pool case of what was less than he sent the bill to the herd. So this this lesson this podcast episode implies a couple things one is you gotTa have hurt folks and building a list and building a following and building and building people like. That's that's problem number one. I'm talking talking of that for a long long long long long long long long long time. Many many many of our podcast episodes about list building in folks building your tribe in and the expert secrets book is all about that. So if you have a new net like that's the first step you can't send the bill to you heard unless you've got hurt. You got to build your tribe guilty people upsets. That's the first part of the second part is they shifting your mindset to that so like oh I can't afford that it's thinking how can I afford that. If I make an amazing offer provide a lot evaluate increase them the awesome the my list will like and then they will finance the thing. I'm trying to get into becomes a symbiotic relationship between your your list. You probably the value. They've read your money and died in there. You're able to kind of get whatever it is you remember before moving this house I didn't episode on. This is probably way back in the archive somewhere. If I I can't remember off the top of my head I remember I WANNA by his house and it was a couple of million bucks and I was just like It's so expensive. The down payment was going to be on whatever it was going to be. It was at the time was just like crazy and so I was like I if if I created one hundred thousand dollar offer suld five people. I've covered the down payment and so I went and put together one hundred thousand dollar offer. We pitched it and we had a bunch of people to take it and that paid for the down payment right and and so it's like it's it all comes back down to that like all right. I've gotTA follow. We gotta heard you gotTa people got to try that whatever you WANNA call them right Kennedy calls. It heard his as appropriate hit. But that's Kennedy for you In fact it's funny They they used to do that a day. They're super conference. Call the heard building which was how to build your own heard how to build your list and I believe head this his company by them seven eight years ago and the company was like very politically correct. They went through all the courses and they tried to pull out things that they thought were. Disrespectful and make heard building was disrespectful. He pulled it out of all dance courses which is insane because that's like him is personnel. Being who he he is and what he teaches people. But I don't know why I told you that story I comes down to political correctness is funny as I'm writing this new traffic secrets book The editors wanted to be allowed the word tribe because same talk about building a tribe Because I guess apparently -fensive something some people or something and it's like it's funny now. slits always caveat preface. Yes, to welcome to the show album, much Oprah, short race, pace training now swim. As do the hall jolts forward. You get up at some silly IRA in the morning and go to the polling. That's what you do. This changed when you decided to enter the arena. How did you. You work towards achieving this kind of training method? Physiology actually is not new. Okay. And a strategy away will using ultra short training of type with the Carlisle school swimming in the early nineteen sixties. Oh, wow. And we're very successful and having four Libyan's the floor, youngest Olympia NHS on the ustralian team in sixty four where all from our club, it then what very well in notice Gosheh when I was the head coach of the Nova Scotia scientific swimming squad. We had an age group swimmer van who went away to an age group, meet and broke world record write one of these Jemma Jim women's will record switch was quite an achievement. And I've been in and out of swimming and my love of sport really is rowing. And so if I get hooked up with rowing did with Cal Berkeley and the national team and that then I was spinning mainly for four or five years or so that particular tone. So the my reason for being swimming was late foods. Cow who catch many will records and was sloop on as being the the, the actual mouse Kutch around the world. "Switzerland and still it's super extremely clean and you basically can drink the water if you want to end you can jump in on one place and then just float along and then somewhere else you get out exactly and there's lots of places where you can climb in on steps for example this walk down the steps and then get in quite easily you can also get in anywhere that you can kind of find a path through the trees and climb down a few stones if you won't see and then when it's time to get out this lots and lots of lots of different small steps along both sides of the river basically and you're looking out for them and they have a red pole and you'll be swimming towards it then you grab the pole and climb up yeah that's like you explain that sounds more simple than it is i think before you jump in the river of the hour you just have to make sure to at least contact someone who was made it already a few times or even better go with that personal don't go alone without information before where you must you must be informed beforehand yes dangerous i think mm lots of kind of tourists of newcomers to the city common see people tons of people like today on a hot day swimming in the river and they may be thinking if they can do i can sure but i can tell you from personal experience when you're standing at the side of the river for the first time you think that looks fast how on earth am i going to get out so i would say definitely go with someone who's been before if it's your first time and if possible if not possible what come back to that in a minute and i would also say it sounds getting out sounds harder than it is but you have to be a little bit aware and you have to know where to get out especially someone must tell you here you get out and the best way to do that is when you're in the water with a person and the persian says let slowly swim towards the edge we can tell quickly how it is a typical or a swim how we would do it i said what happens is something like this it's boiling her outside and one of our says let's case summing yeah and if you live close to the honor like luckily we do live very close so we just go in our swim stuff swimming stuff all the back the arabic they sell lots of different ones here in ben it's waterproof back and you can buy different handles for them and you put your stuff inside maybe a few closing items you can even take your phone it's safe trust me some flip flops towel maybe some money and then he folded over at the top of times sling across the body so it's waterproof supreme and you can take it in the boat if you never knew bring inflatable thing like i kind of long cheese something inflatable that you can hang onto you basically you don't have to actually swim you just go and woke up the river and then somewhere or you think that's good place and or depends also how how hottest water how hot is it outside how long do i want to stay in the water based so a new champion and you float tell you go out and then you go out and try and do the same thing again you walk up float down the river and then move back up again and like on a day like today it's basically a cute to walk up its massive massive people are that's people every was really nice and also boats are coming that's the other thing yeah if you didn't fancy swimming downriver you can go down in an inflatable dinghy you can rent them in tune that's a bit more up the river and then you can flow down to ben down the river and leave it there so it's quite i mean it's it's really nice but it's also i think it's like a round one hundred eighty two hundred francs or something so that's also not cheap trade them now the best thing is we put some links to help you on our website i think exactly and it will find them on swiss and chips dot com exactly of course it's not just river swimming in switzerland dessel site plenty of lakes waking swimming subtly trying to think names like geneva legs eric like like today without swimming stuff that was.

"This is swiss on chips you'll british guy to switzerland and working with them chips i'm jay thank and i am seeing on and in this episode we just got back from swimming in the river so we thought why not let's talk about wild swimming but it's completely true no because we did a poll in our facebook group and asked you which topic do you want us to talk about today there was a choice of three and you guys picked wild swimming so here we are if you'd like to join facebook group then you definitely should its place where you can swap advice of of the people you can influence our show today and you can say ask questions as well check it out on facebook it's called switzerland for english speakers yeah it's really nice and tiny still so you can influence our show you can only vote once they clear anyhow while swimming it's absolutely baking outside it's roughly thirty degrees right now i think we came home from england last weekend and there was already topic everywhere of the heat wave and now it's it hits switzerland's exactly really nice basically the thing to do and it gets really hot it's to head down to the water wherever it is it might be a river it might be a lake might just be an openness swimming pool but really swimming is nothing switzerland i think yeah in the time you feel a little bit oh it's it's now it's really summer when everyone is taking the back with them with swimming stuff and you feel like kind of on weekends you feel everyone is kind of close to a river or shades i mean it's not every everybody's thing but loads of people at least like to go swimming so extend yeah the other day which is talked and i said how is it in england though you also just going swimming wherever you can can you go swimming in lakes and so on and yeah that's why we came up with the topic yeah it's basically a little bit different i think here it's really kind of accepted and kind of how can i say it's kind of part of the coach here i think going swimming at lunchtime or going swimming after work and not to swimming pool but to an actual crystal clear lake in where you can see through down to the stones at the bottom the woods is beautiful and clean as no rubbish this no weeds fleeting in it well at at least where where you can it's not everywhere that you have crystal clear lake sons all otherwise you just go to swimming pool exactly yeah so i guess what we're talking about is kind of wild swimming basically we call it in england and the water is also clear i think not so much we'd or seek gross do we have secrets maybe in the feet and you don't really have that because it's so cold i think as well it's quite cold water so and warmer lakes that are not so deep like the lake of morton for example is not so deepen usually a bit more more has also been more seagrass floating on top them not so nice when you have to swim three green stuff so i think this may be sort of three types of wild swimming you can do varying degrees in switzerland now you've got the bodies the swimming boss which sort of them and we have police say bodies again supervised swimming areas in naturally occurring water that's my personal definition as normally a lifeguard there and it's either in a lake fricks onboard but it's kind of coudn't off or something like that it's kind of the lifeguard there and their facilities changing rooms and you probably have to pay to go in those lots of nice facilities like a bar and sun lounges and those kind of things and you also have sometimes.

"Hi there i'm dorothy will once again we're swimming upstream and death in swimming upstream we meet a lot of interesting people that you wouldn't have the chance to beat any place else and today we have somebody very very special for you to hear about it here from a you know for me this is especially exciting because those all the way back to when i was a little girl log long ago when the world was new my uncles and one of my aunts were professional wrestlers and they were called the battling franko wrestle all over the country what i didn't know was at the same time my special guest was also was the world wrestling champ but he wrestled octopuses gary kepler three time octopus wrestling world chaff right right you may speak eke now welcome thank you but what is certainly hope i'm not gonna ask you not ask me i don't think i can think of anything we could not ask me about it i i know a lot of octopus i don't know everything well let's start with the pack because it you know this is also going this is going in my book that octopus wrestling was very very big into coma in the rested way tetlow part what is now to be drained low beach does why well that area is one where they multiply and live in numbers more than most places because food chain there is there's enough there to keep them fed and taking care of an octopus live in caves and it was a area that had a lot rocky caves and stuff along the head some ledges and stuff where they could live and this wasn't just a small activity thousands of people would turn out or did barrels for the world we contestants who get a hundred hundred ten twenty not not huge but we had a lot of people come down going to hear what was going on to see what was going on and i know it's on television the ad gotten television we got on wide rows sports and we we had what we did is the local cosponsored and all the clubs around sent people to compete and it was starts out when you get there you go out in you go out in two heats on heat is holding your breath so you have to go down and hold your breath and catch the octopus and you second heat was with tank go down a catch you got more points for the brenton because it was extremely harbor and we were breath holder i was a breadth on this year the champions i the i spent the my breath today's of led to a lot of different things i started out diving breadth loading because we did have a of cards so we had to use amazon nineteen sixty three was were world championship whatever made you think you wanted to do this anyway i mean where you just you're diving and you're seeing the i know you've said how beautiful the octopus is our which is that we've mostly not thought of the other very graceful occurred e they don't they move very slow like in slow motion and they are they're not too harmful on the under very extreme circumstances could ever heard anybody the local locally here we get twisted shallow water which bigger than anyplace else in the world really and they grow bigger here an average size when i would have to say would be seven eight maybe nine feet across way maybe forty five fifty pounds because they're not too much to them there's this like all there's no bones in there all gristle hurricane that's why there's fluid they go through a hole big night that goes to he'd intial they can they can squeeze and squeeze it around his light through the whole and so they were at out pretty amazing and they can change color and you can tell when they're mad because what we did a lot of time you could come up and when you see nop sitting on the bottom up your slap on the head change cutters they'd throw her tentacles up in anger and then you can grab them where the tentacles meet the head and that's how you control when you hold him and hold the tentacles tentacles flowing behind you you don't wanna let the twisted holy your arm or your leg or anything because they do have a beak up underneath that they feed with and i i don't know anyway got it but they do try to to.
