The Future of Professional Relationships with Andy Lopata

"Does the professional relationship strategist actually do? I guess the answer is pretty much in the title but I'll work with organizations and individuals within those organizations to help them look how the professional relationships they build Com charge their business And Charlie career If you look at most to the challenges and the skill sets the leaders and Successful business people focus on that that that powered by relationships whether you're looking at change management leadership in itself business growth. You can list challenges and pretty much. Everyone could be made easier. I'm better if you have the right connections with the right people in the right place and strong relationships with them but we tend to leave that to chance and what I try and do is encourage those people to think about the most strategically. Well if you're asking someone to do something that will involve change or is uncomfortable. You WanNa be asked by some on you actually like you've got to lock them in that. Yes I would do that for you because we have a relationship at some point down the track on my need to ask you to do something. And it's equipped Park Roy. Something really struck me Back in January I was Speaking events event organizers before Mytalk I listened to the opening plenary session and it was a lady called name. Ray Who's the COO of I make switched? One of the biggest event organizers in the world. They run you know mixed they run events of fifteen thousand twenty thousand people in in Las Vegas And in Frankfurt and non Emory was talking about how they making their event sustainable and she had three key points in. The second point was collaboration and she threw out the talk. She talked about the different stakeholders she needed to have on board in order to make the event sustainable. And I since I had the chance I rushed out. I got to the slides and I created a brand new slide for my presentation listing stakeholders and the point I made is you had in the started with the team. But she didn't say the team it wasn't the IMAX team. It was they Finance team the sales team the delivery team so you had all the teams with an I. Max You had all the different suppliers so you had. The people that build exhibition stands the transportation on ground level to cleaners to the cleaners. Caterers You had the clients and bring the clients on the journey and I listed about twelve or fifteen of just from my notes from the talk and and my opening to my presentation that morning and it's become the opening this new presentation. Now anyway was what's the one thing that's going to make your life easier in bringing all of those stakeholders forward and it's professional relationships strong relationships on and I had a quote from now lamb. Ris At the end of that which said If you have your partners on board you multiply your impact. So that's what I try and help people and I think people don't recognize the power of professional relationships will go into more detail but we think networking is. I have connect with you on Lincoln sidewalk and his whole story around that you actually for years were known as Mister Network But you start to move away from this. So is networking now a dirty word networking word and I've always said that if I could find the replacement for it then I'll make my fortune I. It's it's not as dirty words it used to be Two thousand eight changed that you know when when people started losing their jobs linked in activity might experience absolutely spiked People were maybe on it but weren't really using it. Two Thousand Eight nine sort of sea change as people either looking for new job or felt their jobs under threat And I saw massive change. In the way people engage with networking from that point to the point way up before the crash I was at an event for women in technology. I did the bravest thing I've ever done in my life and I've parachuted and jumped so on abseiled. I put my hand up and asked a question of a panel An event could women technology where they were one hundred ninety nine women in the room where man and I wasn't even in technology I ask the panel about the the difference for a woman to a man networking corporate space. Because at the time I was moving from running a network for small businesses and knowing that I wanted to move into working with corporates and one by one. Shut me down They said you know we don't do that. We don't have time to go to the POB after work. We manipulate Everything that they said about networking was negative. Even though everything I would define networking is was represented in advice. They gave presentations One year two years later I was at an event for another women's event. It was European professional women's network. I'm one of the speakers of hundred fifty women in the ordinances time. How many of you think networking is important? Your career every hand went up. That was a huge change in a short period of time. So I don't think networking is as dirty word as it was in the you know before. Two thousand eight having said that it still misperceived misunderstood undervalued. It still seen as a soft skill is seen as a sales tool a saint something for junior levels. And it's it's all of those things and none of those things And and the reason for my shift from a focus on networking to a focus on professional relationships of which networking forms a part Is the I was getting pigeonholed into how to work a room You know my friend. Susan Susan Rohan wrote the book how to Work Room probably thirty years ago. Now it. It's a word is a phrase that's really stuck in the popular vernacular and we do need to know how to make the most of networking events but they set tiny percentage of what I do and when you talk about professional relationships conferences and events are just one tool. And I've been preaching that message for a long time but I think it took the shift a wife and talking about networking and talking about relationships for people to get that then. If you want to build professional relationships you can at how networking events and conferences. Sit into your took

Senate defeats motion to call witnesses in Trump impeachment trial

"A fifty one forty nine split. The Senate has blocked emotion to subpoena new witnesses in the impeachment trial. The trial is now in recess. Senator Susan Susan Collins and Mitt Romney were the only Republicans to cross party lines and vote in favor of hearing witnesses. After days of arguments and questions from senators a vote on whether to acquit president trump is still outstanding to discuss where things go from here as Wall Street Journal reporter Natalie Andrews from the capital Natalie. Now that this motion the Senate has failed to pass. What's next Senate leader Mitch? McConnell and Chuck Schumer are working to negotiate some sort of resolution to end and the trial would democrats have power right now. They have leverage to bring in a lot of motions which could result in a late Friday nights and given the partisan nature of the Senate. Most of the motions aren't likely to pass so Mitch. McConnell is trying to negotiate a deal that gives Democrats something they want on timing and also oh results in Democrats yielding. Maybe on the floor control that they that the resolution gives them Hong Timeframe. Are we talking about potentially aides. It's around the Senate and senators themselves seemed to be thinking that the trial will end on Wednesday. The schedule that has kind of been pitched to them would be that Monday in Tuesday could be speeches. The senators could give up about the trial on the floor and then the final vote could be Wednesday but that is not set again. That is why the leaders are shading. Isn't the mood likely to become more partisan than ever. Now that this vote has been taken again. It was very interesting to see the reasoning of that. A lot of senators put out about why they opposed the witnesses. Senators like we. We him Kawasaki. Who is considered an unknown possible? Swing vote. She said that she didn't have confidence. That Congress could give the president of fair trial so she was was voting to end the trial early by not voting to bring in new witnesses and information. She's a member of Congress so for her to acknowledge that Congress can't give the president a fair trial. It's striking Republican. Senators have acknowledged. The president has done some wrong. Doing but say the impeachment will be harmful for the country or that. The offense doesn't rise missile of impeachment. So certainly the reasons that we're seeing on. Why Republicans want to end? This trial are broad and speak to the partisan. Addison divides in the country out of the timing work. And all this there are a lot of things happening over the next week What were the state of the Union speech and campaigning? Having vote on Wednesday means that you could break in Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders Mea Culpa. Michael Bennett all presidential candidates will probably go to Iowa this weekend and campaign. Because they're looking at the Iowa caucuses on Monday and then you would have Donald. Trump's stated union speech each which is scheduled for Tuesday and then acquittal. Vote or vote that will likely end in acquittal of the president on Wednesday so pretty big weaken American politics next week. We're looking at

"You know the bible talks about being double-tongued and that basically means that you are going to god for for for grace forgiveness and you're expecting that forgiveness from him because that's what he tells you in his word word but you're walking away from it not forgiving yourself so therefore it's making you feel like that. You didn't receive the grace that you went to god far so so what you have to do. Is you have to drop your hands. Once you've asked for forgiveness you have to drop your hands and you have to say god. Thank you for your grace and know that you're forgiven given i am pro-life but i am also of the belief that it is not my right. I don't have the right to judge a woman for a decision that she is going to make with her body. It's not one that that i would do. It's it's not one that i would ever want julie to do or that. I would want my daughters to do but i would have to accept that my daughters have that right so what i i would say to you is. You don't need to spend any more time thinking about what could have been what should have been 'cause. That's not happening. All you can do is focus on what happened from that day forward because that is your life and know that that unborn child the soul of that unborn child is in the arms of guide and that's and that's the safest place that child can be in so please all you callers out there. Do not think that i'm sitting here saying that. It's okay to go and have an abortion worship because your child's going to heaven. I'm saying that my belief is that i believe that when god takes a child that he takes that child to heaven even so i hope maggie that that helps you and i want you to say every day looked in the mirror everyday and if you have to say at ten times a day just say i i forgive myself because god is next caller place hi julie. I'm gonna go by an anonymous name today. So i'm gonna go buy soon so i am twenty two about to be getting married <hes> my fiance and i are we have one of the the best relationships i could ever imagine this happening but there's one thing we can agree on so his father and his stepmother are are both kind of horrible people. We're not close with them. We've probably seen them twice in the past year but here's where it gets really bad. His father is a known molester but it's not within the family. He molested his sister in my fiance's step brother so so that being said i do not ever want my future children to meet this man. Don't want it not okay with it. My fiance and they're gonna hand still has a small relationship with his father like i said i'll super close but they're still talking. He thinks that we can suck it up for the one to two the year and just say hey my thing is. I don't want my children around anybody that i don't feel safe with so. What do you guys think. What should i do here. Shy just suck it up for the two times here. Hold my kids close to let them go near him. What do i do think you guys so much. I love love you guys as my favorite. I'm upset by. Hey susan susan. I'm going to give you this answer coming from someone who was molested as as a child. I was molested by care by dr that my mother took us to and you know i was brought up to believe that you you trust doctors. You trust.

Accounts as, if they were you, but that's what's known as a pretext that's a that's a fake Email looking like it an official correspondents coming to you from whatever Bank it is that each of these from and. They're just on a fishing expedition that has a, couple of. Different forms one is where when you click on that link. It would it would dump Potentially a series of? Viruses. On your computer the other is? Where they try to do is get you to think there's an account that's opened in your name and they have you contact them and they say, well what's your social security number what's. Your this, what's your that and, then they have the information needed to do full blown identity theft but more often than not it will be the first not the second they're trying to get you to click on. A link and load a virus have you clicked, on any. Of them no Because You're doing exactly the right. Thing can I make another suggestion to you Are? You running a PC or a. MAC or are you running a Chromebook Suffice Okay and are you running antivirus on? That MAC But I do Just as long as you're running antivirus that will not, provide ironclad protection but it's a a layer of protection. You should do and I can't even begin to tell you what a help you've been to other Susan just by, bringing this up Because you've warned other people away from clicking an opening any attachments, to these fake Bank emails That, my address my Email address is just all over the. Place now 'cause I know no they they send, these blind to millions and millions of addresses a lot. Of them will bounce back to them but they're doing all kinds. Of combinations sending these out, just hoping they hit somebody since they don't even know your name. It's just a blind hit not one that they've. Really thought through or done any deep digging so it's not like they were specifically targeting you they're targeting everybody Julianne is with us on the Clark Howard show. Julianne you had a light pay that is twisting. Your credit nuts Well I think so here's what's going on My husband and myself, we had one late payments a year ago and then.

"Entrepreneurs collider's joining me right now you're an investor yourself and you talk about, something the horse in the jockey in which one do you bet on. Could, you elaborate on that for us investor yes so a real estate specifically as angel investing. I love people like, you have ideas to come to. Me and ask me, for the seed capital of the first round to take your idea to whether market or whatever. It is and so the question and, the angel investor community is debate on the jockeys or the jockey with horse. Gimme and so that is the CEO is the jockey the horses the company and so a perfect example right well Uber yeah so Travis who. Founded Uber was an awesome CEO and Uber was a fantastic course right yeah fantastic product and so, the question is And I would say if. I had to pick. One or the other it's the jockey I? Know CEO's, man of the, mutual friends who aren't, necessarily the, greatest CEO's who their businesses fail. But would have been a phenomenal idea somebody else would have been running on the. Contrary I don't people are phenomenal CEO's who just outworked everybody. Out hustle everybody who might not have the. Best product that they're taking the market. They might be inferior to someone. Who already has market share because that person works there frigging but off the business goes, off to be success, so the question is do you bet on the on the horse or the jockey on the? Company business model in the industry and how? It. Might disrupt existing industry or create a new, one already about on the person running it and for me it starts with the person running at first anytime someone comes to me and asks for money I literally have a place. On a website that says pitch me I literally get thousands a year of people asking me to consider investing. In their business I they look at us who, are you, and washed. I invest in you okay let's. Talk, about. Your. Business so let's do that then what is the ideal scenario look like we've got. Let's? Say. Susan Susan. Comes to you and she He's got this idea pitcher to and. You could care not as much about the idea as, much you. What about Susan initi- the right fit to execute the idea so what do you need. To, hear and fee and believe about Susan to investment, so she as the. Entrepreneur. Needs to have.

"Time every show so my answer the questions you senen throughout the week i had a a guy i work with the critiques the show every week i have somebody i'd pay to basically rip apart the show every week he's genius he's been doing this for ever and he was laughing at me last week as you said you call the lightning round but you only got through to question last week so i apologize i sometimes i get really end of the questions and then you know how many i cover is questionable but i love this because i feel like people really asked whether you know what's actually going on with you i'll just want to talk about what seems like it'd be interesting i wanna know no what are you thinking about so you gascony question you went through a website again it's my life is more dot com and we will either answer the question on the show if i am not longwinded or we'll get back to you directly via email via phone call i will talk with you about this issue but but we love those questions come in okay first question day comes from susan susan says i've always thought i should pay off my mortgage my dad always taught that's what you were supposed to do but me and my husband just locked in a 30year mortgage at a fixed four percent should i work to pay this off or is the interest rate low enough that it's to our advantage just to keep it susan thanks so much for the question that's a fantastic question okay first of all i'm going to caveat and say there's no wrong answer here and i hate when i say that because people are like just getting out of the question there is no wrong answer but but it's that classic dilemma others a mathematical answer excuse me.
