EBay to Sell Classified-Ad Business to Norwegian Firm for $9.2 Billion
"EBay scored an even bigger price for its classifieds business than expected. The San Jose firm selling the unit to Norway's that had been to for $9.2 billion. More than a 1,000,000,000 above the widely reported price. Before the deal was closed, eBay will retain a significant stake in the classifieds business by getting a 44% stake and event as part of the deal. The move completes a serious paring down by eBay following a push in 2019 by activist hedge funds, Elliott Management and starboard value. Which also led to eBay selling StubHub to via Gogo earlier this year for $4 billion although that deal is being probed by regulators in the United Kingdom for potential antitrust issues,
Ebay Reportedly Getting Close to Selling Its Classified-Ads Unit to Adevinta
"The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ebay is close to a deal to sell its classifieds and division to added Vinter, which is a global marketplace business based in Norway. It is looking like a cash and stock deal somewhere in the neighborhood of eight billion dollars. A shares of ebay are flat on this report. Maybe the. Investors are waiting for confirmation, or maybe this is due to the fact that year to date shares of Ebay up. Just north of sixty percent so. It's been a nice twenty twenty in terms of ebay share price. It has they're continuing to divest the the non-core businesses started with pay. Pal and continued with stub and this will. Leave, as it's activist investors wanted Ebay, easier to understand and more its financials more transparent, and if the activists investors are correct Dave unlocked value by pushing this strategy and this is is part of a winning strategy for for the company in the Stock time will tell but you know I I like what they're holding onto and I. Think they're talking about getting you know. Eight billion issue out of this, and there's some talk about expanding their payments operation. So as you mentioned you go back to two thousand fifteen, they. They spent out pay pal. The end of last year they strike that deal to sell stub hub and. God bless them. They were lucky in the timing of that because. I think they got four billion in the deal to sell Stub, and if for some reason that got delayed. Deep into twenty twenty, there's no way they're getting that amount of money. It's absolutely going to be a lower price so. Ebay got lucky in that regard. Let's go back to the activist investors though so. The activist investors want Ebay. To be a business. It's easier to understand. That there are more parts to the business when they have the classifieds business when the when they had stubhub. That kind of thing, it never struck me as any one of those parts of being overly complex. If. This deal goes through their basically down to the marketplace business, which shouldn't be hard to understand, so the activists get their wish there. Is that a business? Has a particularly bright future I I'm not saying it's doomed. It's not a bricks and mortar. It's not like they're storing up stores all across America, but I just wonder if the marketplace business in and of itself. Is An exciting attractive. Multiples growing business over the next decade. Well, it's a business where they're the leader having. Acquired all the advantages of first mover and having done a lot of other things right, not everything right over the last twenty years, but I think it's it is attractive. They're. A very relevant, possibly more relevant as people need to sell some stuff to get get through this period of time and those with money. You're looking to add stuff to the houses they're. They're trapped in so I think that they're getting more traffic and I don't see what you know. There are other companies that have taken a stab at trying to go after that business. and. They've really failed for the most part. Be Interesting to see what happens with the stock when this deal gets finalized. Also Out of into is a publicly traded company it's it's not listed in the US. Did Trades over the counter as best I could tell the overall market cap. Of this markets play marketplace business based in Norway. is about eight billion dollars so I'm I always find it interesting? When companies are like? Yeah, we'll basically come up with the cash and stock equivalent of the complete value of our company. To make this deal work. Yeah well since it hasn't been announced. We don't know what they're gonNA come up with in terms of. Some combination of cash and stock so Ebay may still have. You know public share interest in the resulting company with. Speculation right now as as to what that might look like, but yeah, it would radically. Increase the size, the business adventist doing.
EBay Nears Deal to Sell Classified-Ad Unit to Adevinta
"Nearing a deal to sell its classified ad unit to Advanta, Advanta, Advanta, let's go ahead and enter. Whatever and Mike, they're valuing this $8 billion. I didn't even know this was a thing. It's the international Craigslist had never heard of their classified ads unit. Neither had I, frankly. So beyond other Sir, the investors and eBay have over the last several years kind of pushed eBay toe strip themselves and a lot of their other business units, which for those shareholders need bay. That's been a good thing. If you if you won't pay pal, for instance, that stock has done incredibly well. They struck a deal to sell off their StubHub ticketing division last year, and this is really the last big one that they had that wasn't really core to eBay's business. This classified ads, you know, think again. Think of it, as like a Craigslist or Facebook marketplace for a lot of non U. S markets. Wish again if you're competing with Facebook marketplace, I'm not really sure how you make money. EBay's classified ads unit, but that's not here, nor there, I guess.

Hello and nicole eric's hello today we're taking a break from talking and complaining in obsessing and instead were shouting out things other people are doing that. We think you'll find is useful or enjoyable as speed you because his roundabout roundup and i'll go first because i learned something something and now i share <hes> earlier in the summer. My daughter bought a ticket to a concert two's very excited because as you may recall recall she has never been to pouncer and she that's rare yeah the about it so we got herself. A concert ticket touts very excited than and she realized that she had skating practice that conflicted with it and she had already missed several practices because is gonna camp and going to ecuador and she was like i can't i can't go you know i'm too is very very sad wounded of it <hes> but it was the mature decision that but here we are with this ticket that it costs one hundred thirty outs and so to ask your these asking her friends. If anybody wants it i i put it up on facebook and tried to sell it there ange side note i try to do facebook marketplace and and it said no you can't sell tickets on here so then i just made a regular post on my feed that was like piling this ticket and facebook book turned into a martyr assuming away so for those wishing to skirt the that's how you do it but anyway i it was getting closer and closer lever having no nibbles and i was starting to worry and my daughter said well you know maybe just put it on ebay and gosh. I haven't been on ebay in so long. I don't have any you know because i haven't bought or sold anything in years years right but then i thought well what about stubhub that's just for tickets <hes> but i thought you could only buy tickets on stubhub and now you can sell to its stuff cool so i did and i got the full full asking price <hes> immediately and it was bigger experience because you by the time i decided to do this. It was very it was like thursday and the concert was sunday so i had overnight the actual ticket the wristband that i had <hes> do their office so so that you know made it so that we wouldn't if someone did turn up and said oh i do want it. I wouldn't have it any. I wouldn't be able to sell it right right on. I saw it was a risk and had to be overnighted has had to be there by friday for a sunday concert and <hes> but i i did not to pay for the shipping place like as soon as it as soon as it went live it sold so i should have charged more thoroughly apparently but still will you probably made somebody's day by them being able to go to the concert i it wasn't somebody who's going to be scalping yeah. Also i did not know that. I didn't know that either him. Now i do yes and you do and she still has go to <unk>. She has she come out with and hang out with kristin nelson. We'll take her. She has been to the honourable. That's true it wasn't exactly a concert but it was fun to venue uh-huh counts so whether you have terry speaking of venues i <hes> recently had a day where i had to go and be in a town about half an hour away from me. My son works a works. There and he's working was working like seven to three shift. I thought you know what instead of driving half hour there in half hour back and then going out later and doing the same thing. I'll just go on. I'll stay down there and it was a sunday and so i i i spent some time in the library nearby where he works and i'll just go civil library for hours. It'll be fine so at google. The library and google told told me that the library was open at nine a._m. On sunday and i thought oh how nice that's i'm surprised it's open then early on sunday but okay so you know. I dropped my son off at seven a._m. There was a church nearby so i went to church and then i just kind of hung out in the parking lot of the library waiting to open and waiting and waiting and noticing there are absolutely no staff cars anywhere were nearby and so i went on to google again in this time i clicked to go on the website of the library where it says closed on sundays in the summer and as a matter of fact in the rest of the year doesn't open till one o'clock so lesson number one do not always trust google's starting hours <hes> as as i shared with another person who drove through clearly having mental by google. It will be open so some like we want to do. I need to be here eight hours hours. They need to be someplace where i can plug in in the library is really good for that. They have those tables at the plugs in them. It's perfect because i was gonna do some work on my work planned out that i was going to do but i need to be able to plug in my laptop so i thought log over there's a barnes and noble nearby barnes and nobles opening up so i stayed in the library parking lot until ten drove over there looked in the cafe no plugs anywhere luli they do not want people sitting there for eight hours plugged in no plugs in the cafe so i thought well this is a problem i found on one plug sort of in a corner where there was a chair and i thought worst come stores. I can use that but there was a fedex office in like the next little mall over so i walked over there and i walked in and i said said hey you know what i know. You guys rent computer time do you can i just come in with my laptop and plug in somewhere in my rent some electricity from new and they laughed and i so we don't charge for that and they showed me over to a little workspace that had plugs in it and i sat there for three hours and then i got everything all charged up and then i went over to barnes and noble headline shows internet move very nice day so i don't know fedex offices always do that. I don't know if they were supposed to do that or of just a slow day and they figured it wouldn't hurt anything. <unk> lady look sweaty and tired or what but it was a really nice place to work. It was nice and cool. I bought myself a bottle of water in some in headphones to like earn my keep but you know it was if you are ever in that situation where you need to be working somewhere for a space of time where you will need to to be plugged in and there is a fedex office nearby going to ask if you can sit in one of the little carols they have for people were printed stuff it. You know maybe it'll work out by. I buy a bag of chips or something to you know to cover the cost of your taking up space but <hes> thank you to the office in morris plains. I hope that i'm i am not getting you in trouble way talking that you on the ringing up. Did you just do kind deed for an old person but anyway. It was very nice very cool rawson line well. I know there's a lot of mummy blogs out there and <hes> sort of a lot of parenting logs and twitter accounts and instagram accounts but i came across lynn untwisted this morning that has just i haven't stop laughing every time like her. I think that's her main kind of <hes> avenue avenue or her. Social media is twitter but she's a little bit on instagram. I haven't checked facebook page yet but <hes> she calls herself sarcastic mummy but her <hes> twitter name is sarcastic mummy four the number four there must be there must be a site called sarcastic mummy dot com and she has me like rolling on the floor laughing. I mean it's just used it's dry humor. It's it's real. It's totally relatable. <hes> you know for example. When you're a mom of boys you get to say things like we can't visit the grand canyon because i'm afraid you'll throw your brother over a so <hes>. She's just got it. You know nails the nails as parenting thing to end <hes> a very sarcastic kinda tongue-in-cheek aspect to it so yeah i've been enjoying scrolling through her twitter account and and hurt vargas. Her site is a blog in it. <hes> the last couple of posts. I've seen have been the the story behind the tweet so so post the tweet and then she'll oh right about why she posted that tweet. You know it's a good way to do it so needing. Oh yeah yeah so anyway enjoying her. The shadows okay well. That's it for another week of parenting roundabout. If you missed any of our earlier episodes this week look them up on apple podcasts or wherever.

I really don't wanna go John. So you'll I'll give you my ticket stub hub comes through how about that. Yeah. How take an army women to protect me in Atlanta. I, you know, what's so funny. So yesterday we were talking member after the show yesterday. We're talking to the state troopers from Valdosta. Great great guy. So they brought all these police officers from all over the country to help protect and I wanted like part of me wanted to ask them. Hey, can you walk us out of the building? Like, we're like. Yeah. They would have done it through those are really. Excuse me. Excuse me. Like how crazy like how cool that a bit? Just like surrounded by status. I should look like we should be being walked out handcuffed. Walked out because they know how to put on the ally guys are important people like the pardon me part. You know, like we should have done. They would have done it. They were really nice guys next is still would've looked at the three of us have been like. Yeah. Those guys are no have been like. They would have been like who the hell are. I want your autograph is that Manute. Oh. Randi joins us in Jackson. Randy welcome to the Mark Arum show. Hey, mark. How you doing? I wanted to tell you. I held the story for two years. I was on Facebook. How I got scammed by company. Oh, tell me donate any names. I think about that. Naming names, but it rhymes with living. Real quick the thirty second story. Okay. Real quick. USC when playing Alabama Texas my wife bought for fifteen hundred plus dollars a year in half in advance. They told us that this company we were the first ones to buy tickets that was the game at the at the Jerry stadium. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So anyways, I kept calling where my seat. Oh, you got the best seats in house. Don't you worry? We can't tell you right now. But don't worry. Right up to ten days before the game. We finally found out where she threat they were at the highest level up against the wall in the corner means and how much did you pay for them hundred plus whatever the task a year and a half early. Did they make they make it? Right. Pull them. They tried to. But we still have pretty sorry. And the higher ups were like, hey, that's our policy. I think what they do if they sell your tickets, and and they take your money large sum of money. They buy a bunch of other tickets and then throw you a bone while they're using your money in the stock market. Yeah..

"A baby they tell you. They'll bring it to you at the hospital. Just give me the free political here. I mean, you know, just try. I mean, I guess I feel like you might just end up getting in trouble. How would you get in trouble? I mean, no, not like in any legal sense. But you know, what? I mean, this is this is this if if media gets this, you know, that you tried to fake your way into pizza. People would probably fake waiting the pizzas pretty funny. If you think about it because it's a it's free pizza for a year. And I don't know what that means exactly. What a week what a month or whatever it is. But it still I think this is the kind of thing look I've been screwed over so many times by life with people doing stuff, you know, the most hurtful thing that I think was ever what I got scammed. But other than Denver. We were. We wanna tickets the morning show wanna tickets for the for the Broncos when they're in the playoffs the playoffs. Yes, the playoffs. So we wanted to buy tickets, and then tickets, of course, worse astronomical branches. And I found somebody that had tickets for twelve hundred dollars a piece, and we need three tickets for the three of us on the morning show. So my boss said, he just put it on your American Express card will reimburse you for it. So I bought it from one of these sites. I think it might have been EBay Craigslist. And then turned out that was a scam. That they didn't have any tickets, but they took the money. So then we'd spent an entire morning talking about this at a company called stub hub heard about an in San Francisco, the vice president stub hub sent me an Email and said, we feel ope what happened is it made the local news the story of me getting scammed, and then somehow made national news. And that's how the company in San Francisco stub found out about it. The vice president of stubhub got in touch with me via Email and said, you know, we feel terrible. What happened to you? We'd like to offer you free tickets to replace the fate tickets, and we actually got not only better tickets. But I mean, it was just an incredible experience. So something like this, you know, could get some publicity. Yeah. But nobody's going to be like oh, sorry. You didn't get the free pizza. Here's free pizza. Yeah. But even even so I mean, there's got to be people that are going to search. The hashtag pizza Hut's special delivery and perished promotion. I think this has to be done like as soon as kickoff happens. Boom. Six zero three six zero four PM. All right. Let me know how it goes for you. I'm gonna I'm gonna keep these notes over here because I want to take that home with me. And and I mean, it's worth a shot. Don't you think? I think it's trouble for nothing. Would you be too scared to do this? I don't like being dishonest dunno. I don't think it's being dishonest. I think I think I don't look at it that way I look at it like being something there. If you're posting a picture claiming it's your baby, but it's not. But it's me. But that doesn't matter. It's it is dishonest. The definition of dishonest. But it's okay. If you're okay with saying the contest is a game. Right. So what you're saying is it's okay to cheat. A games. Well, yeah, sometimes, but it's not you could get some publicity for the Rick Steven show. I think it's okay to cheat of the game. If it'll gives you publicity sometimes. Yeah. Why not? All right. It's fine. If you think that I mean, what do you think? Eight seven seven eight fifty eight five hundred five eight seven seven eight fifty eighty five eighty five. I shouldn't have talked about this on the show. 'cause now give somebody else a freaking idea. That's what's going to happen. Quick on the finger. I think somebody else going to come. But the first thing I thought of what I was reading about this this morning that why couldn't they just do that. It just seems to easy, but I'm going to try it and just see what happens. Good luck. You know? Radio talk show hosts fakes contest, it doesn't really do with the radio station. Because we could never fake a contest here. That's illegal. That's against the law federal law. But this is Pizza Hut. It's a restaurant. You know, I'm sure it's against the law for them to fake contest to not that. They're faking. He wouldn't know. But that's the thing. That's very quickly. Find out how let's be honest. Your picture. We were a baby technology was not exactly up to date. So I'm assuming you have like an old like it's like a polaroid or like a printout like. I don't think I was born by four the eighteen hundreds before smartphones at the very least. Well, of course, I mean, most people are expecting I have pretty high quality baby pictures, but it's probably got a very different aesthetic or style to it. Oh, really? Yeah. All right. We'll see actually found I found some baby pictures last night of you were born not of when you were like at home in your PJ's. Well, yeah. But I think a baby the baby. Okay. I understand that. But if you're posting it a minute after the game starts, right? It would have to be in the hospital. That means yes in the hospital. But that means it has to look like the baby was literally born a minute ago. Well, there's there's one picture of my mom holding me right after I was born in a hospital. I think that'd be perfect. All right. I just realized that our moms hairstyle would have been different and just trying to think of all of my old pictures when I was a baby. And I wasn't born when you were born and all my pictures, I could very easily look at and be like that's not from today that is not even close. So let me ask you a dumb question. Okay. Just because we haven't done it yet. And I probably shouldn't say this either. But I just did a quick search on Google for just born babies. Don't you? Oh, come on. I mean, I could just take somebody else's picture. Your point there. Hold on hold on. How about if I do this? I win the contest and get the pizza for a year. And I share with everybody. I don't think it makes better. It's free pizza. Every time. What if you just steal a baby? Why can I just go into the maternity ward? Just take a baby just take a picture with your baby. Like today. But why would anyone I so this is my question. If you ask someone to go in and take a picture with their babies so that you can win this contest. I wouldn't say to contest I just say, oh, that's super easy to say that you got to win the contest. Otherwise, you look like a major creep. What about if I go into the hospital where they have all the cribs with the babies with window. You look. Why taking a picture of a baby? Yeah. There's nothing wrong. With that babies are beautiful depends on the baby. There are a lot of ugly. I'm sorry for every parent out there. I don't mean we're not talking about your baby in particular. But I promise you right now, there are a lot of people out there that will look at your baby and say that as an ugly, baby. It just happens babies are not they're they're beautiful to you. Because it's your babies are like puppies. They're all door. I don't know that all puppies horrible. And I know that that is also a controversial because like have you ever seen an ugly puppy? Yes. Oh my God. Yeah. It pugs. Maybe I don't remember. There's a baby where it just looks like a ball of wrinkles. And it's not it is not adorable. I'm sorry. People. I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble. And I know we're wanting to hate me for it. What what did you have in your breakfast today? I'm just just being honest, man. I don't know that. That's that's a good thing. Next thing. You're gonna tell me you want to cheat in a Pizza Hut commercial. I know that is not what I said that is what you said, I blame you. I have the tapes I will go back and play. There's no tape. Stop it already. All right coming up next. Speaking of breakfast breakfast, really good for you. But to be able to even just have that report and the way that he's treated in a little bit of dynamic and really interaction. We've had. By the way. High school quarterback in Atlanta. When patriots quarterback Tom Brady won his first Super Bowl against the Rams now as a skit as time has ever to buy a ticket for the Super Bowl. When the middle of a dip between the initial rush with the tickets go on sale on the late surge of the hours before kick-off as we get closer to the game. You start to see more and cops fans getting into Atlanta making the decision to be there. We Saugus would be college football championship as well. Where price start to pick up in demand starts to take up closer to the game. Cada with stubhub tells Canak said it's not exactly a dream matchup for ticket brokers Super Bowl has become pretty common for New England. I got to see a four thousand dollar. With the tickets that you bought for what the US open is that what you said. Correct. Yep. Okay. And you use two of them, right? No didn't use any of them. Because. Like, all right. Talking to second shut down. All right. Have you talked to stubhub? Have you talked to stubhub our media the next day because we had no idea we bought the tickets, right? They were hanging around talking to her husband, Greg. And he's like, we told them what happened, and, you know, great. And he said, you sure you didn't buy tickets. I know I sat down the app right away. All right. And what is what is? What is stub hub? What do they have to say? When you contacted that? We'll have nothing to do with it even though it's even though it's their it's their website. Yup. Okay. Let us talk to management. All right. All right. So now did you pay for it on credit card? Yes. Breath right away. Dispute it immediately disputed. And then you put in exactly what happens you explain on the dispute, and if you lose the dispute because what based on what you're saying stubhub is gonna say, oh, no she bought it. Here's a here's what happens. Then if you have to use sue stubhub in small claims court. That's where we're at because America breath can't do anymore now. That's it. So they went so they have denied your dispute, correct? Correct. Okay. Well, then that's all you have left is to go to small claims court and tell it to a judge. There's no other. There's no other avenue. That's the way. It goes. I tell you what Bill I talked to other people that have had the situation over seven hundred complaints in the Better Business Bureau. And then you bring then you bring that up in front of the small claims court if you can get those complaints bring that up you want the judge to see it. And if you're very very lucky the judge has been screwed by stop. I'll guarantee you you have a winner on your hands..

"More exclusive ticket. You don't need seventy three. Yeah. How much are you willing to pay better? That. And you know, there's always that the people like in now you can't get in. They said, well, yeah, I got in because I paid the money or I jump through these hoops, or I did this or that or the other, you know, you have all these epochs stories about even my family has epic stories about getting to the stadium for deal playoff games when we were playing. And when you say, for instance, if it's a downtown stadium, the next one what if it's only fifty five thousand seats, but you're sitting in a recliner, you know, oh, and you got you know, you've got an open bar, right? I mean what what's going to happen? I mean, how much how many amenities are we talking about certainly those are going to be that's a different kind of experience. It is better experience. It might not be a better experience. It might not be a better as good an atmosphere, but certainly. There's something in there where it says, you know, what if I'm paying this kind of money I wanna get taken care of. And the league is in the league or the teams are going to say, okay. Maybe, but we're only going to have like, you know, fifty thousand seats available or whatever. Maybe like stubhub. It's the only gonna be thirty thousand seats. It's gonna be like a theater where you can put your feet up. You know? I don't think that's where it's going. I'm not here. Okay. I think it's a long way away from that. But you know, you kind of start to think about stuff like that. Gary Myers, New York sports writer. He tweets this out about a game in LA this weekend. The coliseum. On Saturday night. Eight fifteen the home of the Cowboys Rams game. This is his tweet. I think there might be some exaggeration here. But Gary Myers says the L A calcium seats ninety three thousand six hundred. And I think this is hidden saying this at least fifty thousand will be Cowboys fan Saturday night. Fifty thousand of the ninety three thousand he says when the Rams were in Saint Louis for two decades, a whole generation of fans in the L A area attended Cowboys training camp and Oxnard. Why are they America's team read by book? It's a promo for his book, but more than half of the fans Saturday night and in LA are going to be Cowboys fans. Does that sound right? My maybe not because the training camp righteous. They are as much as it makes me want to vomit. This Admiral franchisee are America's team. They might have fifty th I don't know about more than half. But it's going to be a lot of Cowboys fans in the Coliseum on Saturday night. And it's been that way. Not just for the Rams. But obviously for the chargers. Yeah. I mean, both those. They went out there. And and it's a quintessential I can call the way you want. I don't wanna get ugly. It's a it's a money grab their new. It's a huge market for television. You've you can Jack up the prices because everything's expensive out there. People expect to pay you can have a whole spectrum of everything from a two dollar seat to a two thousand dollar seat or more twenty thousand dollars seat. And you can you can have your franchise enjoy the benefits of it. And now they got two franchises there. It's going to be amazing to see how that franchise does. When local people have to support it when it's not that big a deal to go out there anymore, when it's not the destination that stubhub center is you know, what I mean? I don't know. I. I know that the players, and the coaches, and you feel it you go. I mean, you've seen highlights the chargers in stub hub field is the most amazing spectacle. And its it is an absolute consequence of a poorly run franchise making poor business decisions with a poor relationship with the city that they were in since they were their inception ending up in a small soccer stadium with eighty five percent of their the people in the stands are for the other team and a home game. I mean, it's it's a total chain of consequences that have happened to the San Diego. Chargers that are now the LA chargers that is makes you look at it. And go. What the heck they will tell you. And I don't necessarily agree with us. They will tell you that. It's all going to be worth it when they get in that new playpen for three people gonna. For three people, and they and one of the analysts, and it's it's it's easy to say, you go out there and one of the analysts doing one of the charge again goes, where's all where's all the chargers fans? You're right. They're not in LA there in San Diego. Yep. So it's it's just. Here's Mike and Oakville with some thoughts on this, Mike Oakville, Ontario. Go ahead. Mike. Guys. Thanks for taking my call. Sure. Before I start. I love how active you are. And it comes from the bills fell. And I just want to add my vote Mr. Tasker in the hall, so patra Mike women my gear in Ontario. I don't think we count Canadian not registered to vote. I find that offensive. Go ahead. My brother lives in Long Island Casper's kid poison. So I called you know, what with the exchange. We'll give you like two thirds of a vote. Yadier ugly America thirds vote my partner, the ugly American. Go ahead. I don't take offence. My brother's the same way to born came. But now he's American I saw the light. Anyways. Anyways. The chargers do win the AFC championship game could be not host the game at LA Coliseum or other college stadium. Now, I don't know. I guess there's a chance for that. That's a good question. And if the league wanted to step in I mean, there's no question that the chargers have no historical allegiance to stub hub. And there's no question that they could go to another venue. If the league could make it happen. I mean, let's face. It the league's the eight hundred pound gorilla if they wanted to flex their muscle. I mean, they got a game in Detroit. They gotta buffalo home game in Detroit in the matter of forty-eight hours. But you know, what I think I'm wondering what see things I don't think it matters to the league. How many people will be there? I really don't it's about TV ratings. It's about who's gonna if you ask the powers that be at Park Avenue NFL officers right now what what are you looking for this Sunday from these matchups? They're gonna say we're looking for this game because this will have the biggest TV ratings. And you know, what you if you if you if you ask the owners of the chargers, they wouldn't have any issues going to LA Coliseum. It's more seat unles might be more seats. But in the Coliseum think about this for thirty five thousand seats, you could charge a thousand dollars a ticket for an AFC championship game. And in the Coliseum. It's only thirty bucks a seat. You might get the same bump in revenue by staying stubhub. And just jacking the prices up because somebody's gonna pay it. No, you're right. Steve such a good point. I mean, they can charge whatever they want for those seats because it's not a set in stone thing yet. You know what? I mean. No doubt guys great show. I'm gonna continue to listen. Thank you, Mike. We appreciate it. Even though I insulted his country of origin twice. Well, you didn't. You were. You were good natured. Jess, jeff. Right. That's my middle. Name is nothing nothing. There's nothing sinister. Fill on the line from Rochester. Hello, phil. Go ahead. Are you doing great? This year I last year playoff. Yeah. Yeah. Phil, do you think this team this year would have beaten last year's team if they played? You ever really? I think this. I think they would I think they might. I think it might. I think they would actually actually what else Phil. About every every. I hope they do all those guy. Over. Laura win last year that's legitimate, fill one three more games. The bottom line is they didn't win as many games that did a year ago and intimate and they're they're six and ten team because that's what they earn. So you can you certainly were not here saying, hey. The greatest franchise ever. And they've now they're proven it. They ever six and ten, but they did do things that are necessary. I think for a lot of people moving forward to move away from a seventeen year drought in the play offs from a team that has continuously washed through coaches who were not successful to a franchise that looks like not only would it be a franchise that has a chance to be competitive every year, but be a playoff team most years and also be one that year in year out has a lot of optimism both moving forward and in the current in the current season. So I think they did lay the foundation for a lot of things going forward. Even though on the field. They were just a six win team. Thanks for your call. Let's go to Bob in cheektowaga. Hello, bob. You're on the gentleman high two things to start with. I'd like to put Stephen the hawk without a out. And I didn't me I didn't bring this up. He's looking at me like I started this exchange. This vote. We're gonna take that off. Go ahead, Bob, and I'd also like to see car Williams on the wall of fame. And we can start that. My big thing is this stadium issue is largely keep the politicians out of it. They're fine. Steve Waugh remember, but I'm sure Murph well that years ago Eddie Cottrell was going to build a stadium on his own. Yeah. There's all money caster. Yup. And the politicians turned it down, and we ended up giving any control sixty three million dollars. Anyway, you know lawsuit. That's right. Because they yeah. They signed a deal. It wasn't done. Yeah. Go ahead. Yeah. So it's ridiculous in downtown is absolutely insane. I mean, you can't get downtown in the good weather during the bad weather. You can get downtown come on, Bob. You can get downtown. Where do you live anywhere? You want? You come on Bob you can get from you can get from orchard park to tunnel Wanda in thirty five minutes. Yeah. Look they got that stadium. A survey out there. I haven't seen it. You took a look at it. I don't know what it says. I don't know what it means. I don't know. What impact it has? Everybody's got an opinion about the stadium. You can't keep the politicians out of it, Bob because you're gonna need some some public money, and they're the people who control the public purse strings. So I think look survey or not. The community is going to have to come to some sort of consensus. Right. This is what we want. This is where we wanted. This is what we're willing to spend. Is that survey move down the road a little bit in those in that regard? I don't know. I don't know what they do with the results. I don't know where they go as I said I haven't seen. I it's got to be a public decision all elements of the of the public, right including politicians the people who determine where the public money. Well, let's here's the thing. I think this poll that they're out there with this this that they're putting out they're gonna try and find out how much money fans are gonna be willing to spend week to week year to year on tickets, and and therefore get an idea of how much debt they can put into this stadium and pay off without dipping into other parts of of the of the revenue so they're gonna find out how big a stadium they can build given what their revenue streams are going to be and how much they can pay off. And how long it's gonna take. It's just like building a house. What are.

"A man in a Steelers jersey, choking a pregnant woman. Watch chargers jersey. Really? Yes. Neither that man, nor that woman has been identified. So a few questions. Stubhub was filled with Steelers fans. How do you think that plays a role Mace Kim was in Pittsburgh? Oh, you're right. That game was in Pittsburgh. Yeah. Okay. How do you? Let me just drop that part of the question. Then for some reason I thought that game was in in. They won that game on the road. Okay. What is happening to us as a country where something like this happens or even something like a fan in Dallas, yelling, your mother. F your mother had Patrick Beverley. I mean, really philosophically what is happening to us. I think that one thing is is is people the evolution of social media has made people crisper sard has has the same for this. Make people have Twitter muscles. You know, they'll say anything to anybody online. And so it's almost crossed over into real life people feel emboldened. Yes. That thing. Go ahead and say, so I think that's one part of it. And social media has brought on a culture of outrage. Secondly. And maybe I should have mentioned this. I I think the political climate contributed to it. I think it would we live in such divisive political times that if you you really if you think back to Charlottesville, the fact that anybody could say that. And I remember the president was saying, you know, there were people doing wrong on both sides. There were good. I mean, I can't we all admit that choking a pregnant woman for any reason at a football game is unacceptable. No matter. What spin we put on it? Yes. We think the political climate has contributed to do you agree with that? I think that we live in a binary culture where it's either this that black and white you're on that side. Or you're on my side. It happens all over the place. There's also such anger in the world right now. And I do think it's partly true partly part of that. But part of it is also reality TV people behave badly unreality tiv- each or if I see one more woman grab a we've off another woman's head. It's it's like it's so ugly. And it's given people permission to behave badly this week on Vander pump rules. Poor James Kennedy DJ James Kennedy my nose business behind the deejay booth. Let's see what the product looks like I I think we'll learn something from the the alliance league that will start in February see how they do it and see if the XFL can can do something as well. So I guess I am correct. Right. This is going to start the week after the Super Bowl. Just like the American alliance is doing right now. Yes. In two thousand this is go this is going to go head to head with this American lions league. Then we'll have one year head of them. And the XFL is is playing in football stadiums and soccer stadiums one last question for you here. Do you think the XFL team in LA can sell more tickets in the chargers at the stubhub center? I think it'll be close. Oh my goodness. I think it'll be very very very well. It's something to think about all right? Let's move over to Green Bay. "You know, and take advantage of every single one that comes along because life is short the reality is we're in the fabric of a category that's growing, and I'm saying this getting reinvented. Right. I mean, there's a distinction that people use to make between, you know, the person who originally sells you the ticket in the person who sells you the ticket that distinction has gone people. Just want a great ticket like people just want to get to an event easily and friction free, right? People want access to uniquely more and more unique experiences. Right. So I think stubhub increasingly has to think about how do you give people access to stickier and unique experiences that they can't get elsewhere. How do you think of that technology? I mean technology in our category is changing a lot people often. Ask me gosh. What? What happens when you think about, you know, arenas and amphitheaters around the world going to presence or authentication by fingerprint like, you know, what happens to your business? So there's all sorts of technology disruption. You've got a consumer the more than ever wants to spend their dollars on not to be forgotten experiences. And you've got I think we have the benefit and the privilege right now of having built the largest fan fan marketplace. But yeah, do I feel a huge obligation to, you know, serve those customers while more importantly, the fun figuring out what are kind of be the next places that we need to go for the consumer keeping in mind the category. I'd say that countries we play in and also the technology. They're gonna come to bear on access overall. Yeah, that's a fun combination. And there's still a ton of disruption ahead. I think the technological piece of authentication and fingerprint and by metric seems like a big change. How tickets are going to work. I mean, you said a piece of paper, and that was it that was all he needed a removing to a place where you're gonna face ID or. Away into the the football game possibly. I mean, right now, we're already a place where I think I wanna to say something like forty percent of our tickets are fulfilled Moberly. I mean, it's an insane amount. But it's such a beautiful and friction lists experience. Now, look, I think they will always be people who wanna use paper tickets to get into events, and you know, that's just the comfort of holding a paper ticket, but accesses one piece for sure as I said, I think another key pieces unique experiences, and how to give people even more than just the ticket. And I think a lot about that as well. So when it first started was kind of a user experience win, right? Here's something that was hard to do. I've actually bought fake Packers jets tickets when I first moved to New York on Craigslist. It was horrible. We're at the stadium and the jets really nice to us. They're like, oh, you got scammed. You can just like wait over here and watch the game. So they were very nice to us. Oh, that's nice. Yeah. I think we just looked like such sad little puppies. So they didn't know what to do. And so now, here's a better user experience. You're not gonna meet some stranger in a Starbucks, and they're not going to sell you a fake ticket. You're going to buy this thing online. So nice marketplace, we've got. Your credit card. We can give you a refund all these things that was the first big disruption. But we were always talking about these great ideas that makes something easier, but to make them work, you need to go get deals right out in the industry have partners the NFL needs to care about you. And not try to kill you. I don't know Verizon needs to not to whatever it is the present us to stop things, you know, apple and Google run big platforms integrate with them. Are you still like the I need deals mode or stop hubs? So big that you can really just work on user experience over and over again. You know, it's interesting I think that we're both. Of course, I think about how to innovate the user experience, and you can't not he can't think about what else this is person want besides the ticket as I said, and how do we make it easy for them? But the converse is now I think less about deals, and I think more about the unique things we do with content rights holders to really give better experienced fan. So right..

"If you call my peer Cheryl Sandberg at the time was running Atwood's online. And we had a virtual presence where advertisers could sign up right in any geo, effectively and publish ads on Google, but we had no physical presence. And you say, we'll why do you need a physical presence in these countries? And you need it for one of two reasons. Number one, you want to go get all the money, right? Like all the money. Go. Medium and large advertisers in countries. Not just a smaller, advertisers that you self serve. You want to get all the money and all the currencies against all the demand on Google search platform and the number to you expand into countries like, you know, C J, China, Japan Korea where inherently the consumer value proposition is different. And you may need a localized product and engineering team to think about how to build demand. And then, of course, go get the money, and so Larry and Sergei time of circa two thousand three basically said international, I think was less than fifty percent of Google's revenue, and they had an ambition for it to be more because they saw that search demand was already larger outside the United States and in it. And so they basically said go forth and multiply faster get us all the money faster, get us there faster. And at the time, I was responsible for Google, local and maps and a bunch of other business initiatives that Google and was asked to move over and build a. It out. So what did I do on the day after I got the job? Well, first of all on the day. I got offered the job. I went home and had a rather long few weeks negotiation with my husband because I was married a year with ambitions of starting a family, and I was like so they want me to run international. What do you think and won him over with Google to think I remember saying that I'm like I'm going to bring my husband on a couple of trips this first year, there's just to get him sold. And they were like, okay. There's a long negotiation actually, but not that long few weeks. And then my first my first job was actually believe it or not traveling to countries opening up Regis offices renting space in Regis office and finding are on the ground either country manager or CFO those are the first hires you make it any country. And you say we'll why in your like what you make sort of a finance in any country because it turns out that there's no point in opening up an office and hiring sales people if you.

"That ZipRecruiter dot com slash ZipRecruiter, the smartest way to hire. Everybody on this week's interview episode we have Suk in their sing Cassidy who's the president of stubhub. I'm just gonna come out and say, it's kinder- is a bad ass. This conversation was Superfund that she is incredibly smart. She's been a founder in entrepreneur, she's run big thing. She's run small things importantly, she was the president of Google Latin America and Asia, she built Google's businesses in Latin America and Asia, we talked about how she did that you might know that about two weeks ago fifteen thousand twenty thousand Google employees walked off the job to protest sexual harassment and discrim. Nation Koogle seeking there has a huge perspective on that. She runs. The foundation called the board list that places women onto the boards of companies, and we talked about how to build better companies with more diverse cultures. How to get started? How to think about starting company, and we all start about stub hub? A new president. She has a lot of ideas. But how a company like stop hub which started out as a disruptor now has to behave as part of the fabric of the economy, and where mobile ticketing can go next, which is surprisingly interesting. So check this out. There is a bad ass. This was a super fun conversation. All right. So I'm joined by seeking their sin. Cassidy who is the president of stubhub, welcome. Thank you. Thank you for joining us. So you and I met a few months ago, right? As you took over, it's up hub. And I'm just going to be honest. You I didn't realize it some of it was part of EBay, which is much bigger company. But you have this long history of being a founder of being CEO. How'd you end up at SABA, but what was your path to there? So I think ended up at stub hub for a couple of reasons. Number one, a big part of my career was spent Google, obviously, where I got to build a pack in latte and got had this incredible journey to scale, but still got in in many ways beyond Japan aerial way. So that's Asia Pacific and Latin America. Yes. So I. Is shipping Latin America at has? It was called a Google and got to build that into a multibillion dollar business, but he was very much an entrepreneur's journey and before and after Google I was an entrepreneur, I was the founder at yodel and after Google I started coming joyous. And then I started coming called the board list. But you know, from my time Google, I really learned that I love scale as much as I love entrepreneurship or scaling. I love kind of growth when you're already at scale, and it's meaningful and I loved the journey of creation. And so as I had started the board list, it was leading no circa two thousand sixteen thousand seventeen and I was in the midst of selling joyous. I really was thinking long and hard about what was next and realizing that as much as I love the last seven years of being an entrepreneur, I really missed scale. But I wanted a job that combined both with the consumer brand that I really could identify with in some sort of lifestyle category. And lo and behold, I was touting with executive recruiter about what my next job would be. But it looks like this. And she said what about stubhub and within a couple of months, I had the job which was great. So it was really a chance to combine. I think my love of creating an entrepreneurship with my love of leading scale and to get that to do that uniquely for a brand. I love in a category. I love answering. I want to say a lot actually. But I'm really interested in these kinds of journeys, especially the people who started in help build the big companies that we take for granted. So you were actually the president of Asia Pacific and Latin America, Google it. And so it didn't exist before and then it did exist and you're along long journey. What was that like like, how do you say? Okay. I'm gonna take Google to Latin America, what was the next day. Like, you know, it's interesting. So when to be fair when I inherited Asia Pacific Latin America, it was a sixty million dollar business. It was mostly virtual so Edwards online..

"Course l a just based on proximity they did very well but as we got towards the playoffs you know we ultimately decided okay that's the regular season now it counts and so we put a different process in place and ultimately we're very creative in terms of how we went to our members and really just encouraging them that hey this is the stanley cup playoffs and we incentivize them financially to to make sure that they were you know give them the best value through what we call the nights vow program to not resell their tickets but if they weren't gonna resell you know sell them through our exclusive marketplace with stubhub but also they were going to pay a higher price for their stanley cup playoff tickets and we really thought like it was a win win our members that weren't going to sell their seats they got a great value and a great price and then those that still wanted the option to resell their tickets through stubhub they could but they were gonna pay higher price and the result was 'cause we were really trying to you know make for the best home ice advantage we could not have as many visiting fans and they're literally were no kings fans in the building hardly at all and a few hundred at best and i was really really proud of our market and proud of the effort and it really made for an even you know we had we had playoff games every night during the regular season it was even more amped up when we got two games one and two last week visiting fans i would imagine a portion of that is obviously the attraction of the city that you guys playing there also seems to be the attraction of the games itself i keep hearing from people i haven't been out to mobile radio keep hearing.
