"steve byrne" Discussed on The Adam Carolla Show
"From Corolla one studios in Glendale, California. This is the Adam Corolla show that guess, today, the director of always amazing, Steve Byrne with Tina grad on news, vol, Brian on sound effects. And now. Snubbed again, for B T award. Adam corolla. Yeah, get it ought to get it on the treadmill. Tune in in things for sharing good day. Gina grad and ball. Lebron? I don't know how to put this lightly, but who cares? Always amazing the mazing Jonathan doc that Steve put together as great. And we'll talk to him about that. And what a crazy life, the amazing Jonathan has had and still has and had nice talk with Steve backstage comedy store, and all that good stuff. So the store, I mean, the store gotta tell you man in the realm of. What what time is what experiences? What is doable? What's not doable. You know, like flying helicopter would be impossible for me. But then at some point be easy to do at some point, or more. You could never do it. And, and I think some people have different skill sets lend themselves the certain things, but I bet you there's, whether it's Flamenco guitar or flying a helicopter some you could figure it all out. If, if you wanted to you guys, probably noticed it when we have people in here every once in a while, someone who's not a comedian or broadcaster or whatever and they're nervous, you can hear them their voice, and, you know, they haven't I remember that feeling when I started doing the morning, I was like, oh, yeah, it's nerve wracking get on a microphone for the first time. Yeah. Then you'd enough and just talk and that was to hardest part when I broke into broadcasting of like. Just interviewing or man on the street or just talking and not stumbling over your own words. It's not even dry mouth or stammering nervous or whatever it's just a rhythm that feeling Finley heirachy. Yes, that's not doable or it's very doable, except we have to have to do it. I we had our we had our barbecue fans barbecue Corolla barbecue on, on Saturday. I had booked myself to play the comedy store. Speaking of St. Byrne who I ran into a few weeks back. And he's like, oh, I saw the Newman. Doc. I really enjoyed it and blah, blah, blah. He also has the rarest of all qualities for, for someone in Hollywood, which is a rain into back stage two months ago. And he said, oh, has saw the twenty four hour war. The Ford versus Ferrari, doc, I really enjoyed it. And I said, if you really enjoyed that doc, I think. You'll enjoy the Paul Newman racing dock and he said all check it out. And then the rarest of all traits I ran into a week later. I love that doc. Yeah, because no one else does that. He's the one. Yeah, he's the one. So I watched his dock and I loved it. So we got that to talk about. But I was at the Corolla barbecue, and I had booked myself for the comedy store on Saturday night. And I was going to go up about eight five and. I was sold out and it Saturday night at the comedy store. So it's kind of like it's the big stage, you know, that's the hot high in happened in place, Dane, cook going on before me every time, I've gone out. I've been in a either seeing Dane cook or Sarah Silverman. Those are burn. But anyway, so I had a couple of beers at the at the barbecue. But I you know, for ten minutes, cut myself off, and, but I had a couple of beers, and I was by no means drunk, but that feeling of having a few beers in the afternoon and then wanting to take a nap that night, eating a bunch of burgers, and having some beers and then just wanting to kind of undo your pants stretch out. If I was going to go to stand up, then got to the comedy store, and I said to the Booker backstage, like, what do we need fifteen twenty and he went I got you down for twenty five. Considering I'm in unbuttoned, pants and turn on sportscenter mode..

Have you pick a category the menu? So here's the menu. We play a game called sevens. It's like twenty five thousand dollars pyramid. Okay. I'm going to give you clues. You have to figure out what I'm describing. Okay. And I just pick any of these categories any of those unless it's one of the ones that we don't want you to do them with we'll tell you that pride. Can I go with? Nineties music. Yeah. Boy, that's all right. Here we go. I'll do it. Yeah. Jimmy hates this one, because he has I suck at it true. Something else. No one hundred. That's fun. Now that said, you won't get on the leaderboard. We could play it again with media. That would be my what are you doing? I'm trying to put it somewhere. Give it to you. Honestly because I don't wanna take it. I think that's the smartest thing to do here hanging, I'm getting very glasses. These are Alabama valid ended my Babu. The bans nice. All right. So I'm gonna give you clues. You have seven seconds again, each one, but you wanna give them as quickly as possible. Okay quicker. You get the more points. You get I apologize. Elliot, we're about the play sevens. Oh, that's right. Okay. Yes, there we go. We're doing nineties music. Okay. Here we go. Yes. Boy band, not, not pass the boys. The other one boy band. Yes, they're a big band. Swing sort of thing from another one. Gimme another. I can't name any of their Boston, I think, next one, I dislike electronic music, three letters, electric, music, three letters. Yeah. We missed it. This guy had a play on Broadway. And he had a hit in the mid nineties. I can't pull his song, but he had a huge hit next one female country singer. Very, very sexy. Muddling producer nights. Yes. TLC's big hit waterfalls. Yes. All right. That wasn't atrocious in a strong. What was okay? Okay. I miss because I could be wrong show on Broadway. Or hey, let's go on to order, though. This was a one of those big band swing to the money, buddy, Boston. Anybody bosto- from Scott, though, right? Sorta. Yeah. But also, you said Boston, I don't know, if that would be considered a foul. I don't think it would know bus tone, tones..

"Oh, the gentleman's though, Joe, I love doing it. I love work with Gary. I think we have a fun report. But look, I was rapid up the amazing Jonathan doc. I'm wrapping up this feature that I wrote and directed about my earliest and stand up called the opening act. And so that's going to come out probably sometime early twenty twenty and it just got swamped. I mean, you know, I think it's one of those things where you like to write a script. Right. And then you write it, and then it's like be careful what you wish for because the minute they say, okay, you're pre-production, and then I was too young to play the headliner, and it was too old to play the MC and feature. So in talking to Vince Vaughn the producer he said, what do you want to do? I'm like, I don't I'm lose any place for me. He is. Once you just direct it, you wrote it. Okay. Little did. I know. I mean I read every book I could find directing for dummies everything I watched all those masterclasses online and nothing could prepare me for the non stop like hurricane that is directing not only just pre-production production itself, but even post, it's it's it's a lot. It's the hardest ever worked in on anything in my life. Yeah. That's great that you got to do that, though. It's it was great. And I think we've had a few test screenings towards the end of our test greeting where we've invited some comedians into see it and they're were like, you know, very complimentary in terms of the authenticity because I think I've seen so many stand up films, and I was just like man, it's just nothing really like nails this aspect of it. And so the whole film takes place over four days and the first half of the film, it's kids first time ever on the road. And he's got the safe kind of job. And he's, he's like I wanna pursue my bliss. We offered an MC slot at the improv. So the first half of the film is all the romanticism optimism blind faith in partying hanging out with the, the features that you for you being on the road for the first time, then, the backup film is all like this sobriety isolation and reality of this meek MC, finally warming up to this road weary veteran of the road, played by Cedric, the entertainer, and in these kind of diners. Scenes, the headliners distilling little bit information and fun way to them that he tries to apply over the course of the weekend in terms of becoming a comic and becoming a better comic. So I think I think we might have done it. But you never know what these things you. It's like a great joke you right? You think? Oh, god. This the best thing ever wrote the audience like the fuck outta here. Yeah. And then sometimes you write something that you think is, is. Okay. And they love it. So, but I think with this film, it took a lot of work. It took a lot of test. Screenings, and I think we finally got into a great shape where I think, comics will see it and go, yeah. That's pretty much how it is great. And it's entertaining. It's called the opening act. Yeah. And gonna be theaters are on streaming that we don't know about. There's we're finding a home for it. We, we, we haven't finished it yet. So we gotta finish it, and we'll find a home for, but it's like Jimmy Yang plays a younger version of me from crazy way. Alex Moffitt plays the head the feature Cedric plays the headliner, then it's like Whitney Cummings Elisa Slesinger Angela Johnson, Kathy. Again, Russell Peters, Ken Jong Bill. Bert Thomson gore Neal, Brennan, a sparce ROY wood junior, Idaho missing some names in there. But yeah, it's ton of great stand up south, right? Cool. That sounds great. Right. They had screenings down in the gun dough. That's right. Yeah. And Gary actually, so we had one day to actually film, the comedians, performing stand up in front of an audience, and the old grey, improv is where we film this thing before it shut down. So they moved to the next to the new Bray improvident kept the old grey, improv open force for one more month, which was like a godsend..

But I suspect that there weren't that many additional people there earlier, I think this was more of like this is communities service party where there are certain things that you do. And then that's what happened in one is show up on time. I mean, nobody seemed upset. I texted me to say, hey, are did you know what time it wasn't like that to know that you never going to happen, by the way, here's the thing, the person who organize it is the type of person who would do that? Okay. So, so the six would've Ables I honestly, probably like, I say, I've been to parties recently where I show up at six I'm still helping them set up said, you're not we're in. That's on everybody else. Sure that you. Yeah, it doesn't matter. Just don't want always be that guy, right sucks. If you show up too late, then you gotta help clean up. Yeah. You go the other way. Sure. Did you do that? I clean up after myself. I didn't it didn't seem like they. Thirty guests. Cup of water through away, actually. Dish wrist dishes. Yeah. Because there was like a little like a little buffet with very nice different kinds of food, and I didn't get the sense that this is the house where the where the hostess wanted that kind of help has a lot of us left at the same time and it wasn't a huge mess either. I mean it was like. Doesn't want to help says. Yep. Later. I would have said five thirty, by the way that. Showed up at five thirty, it's like, well, we're, we're not we're not on time, but we're also I think that's what I would have done. But I think six would have been six six probably wouldn't find and I thought about that. But I think seven might have not been bad either. I think almost five is what seven semes- seven seven looks like just your anything after six twenty. You're making this question marks thing, threw me off. That sounds that rave. You're not going to be going to. Honestly, I, I didn't know I didn't know what kind of what kind of party, they tuxedo. Seems to me that the palms neighborhood council are gonna throw some Rangers. It just means we, we don't really know probably seven forty five. About ten o'clock. Yeah. Probably about a law. And that's a long hours, a lot of talking no shit. You got a lot of listening on the other people's backs. Here's the I mean, they're all very nice people. When you run for office year, probably type person who has stuff to say, yes, so I did not actually talk that much. I don't believe that, but I will take your word for. That's true. All right. Garin question there, if you ever got an invitation for me from a party and you never will never have a party okay, says five till question Mark that probably means seven. Until seven I didn't want people that said, I will say, this, you two decades at my birthday party you to wandered into and a half hours late. Do you remember that? I don't remember that. Fellas. I love it. It's it was just talking to comic out of Chicago Vince Moronta. We were. Worked a lot with when we first started that we, he was in a hotel room, and I'm just as guilty, this will watch that Dean Martin roasts commercial. Yeah. Yeah, if it's an actual program, like, and then when it's over it's like now, our, our that, well that's the trick as. Yeah. By the DVD's, even the time life. Johnny Carson tonight show, the great little clips and bits. I bought it, it actually did it. I was like fucking bite. It's great. Yeah, it's fun. It's just like you realize not that not that model aren't fund these days. But I don't know. There was just just to know that, that was the epicenter of show business at that time. That's what I go in Burbank. And I go past the Burbank studios on olive, and you know that there was a time in our country, when show business funneled through that studio. Yeah. And now it's so fractured is so many talk shows, so many different options that you forget that Johnny Carson had the burden of responsibility of entertaining, everybody at that time everybody. So. So there's something warm about him. And I read all the books and you hear all the stuff about him off stage, but I don't give shit about that. I like what I saw. Yeah. Agree with that. And I also think it's interesting that when you re watch those old like some of the jokes like the ones that bomb, like, I remember as a kid going isn't a great when he's saving these, these good jokes. That didn't work. Yeah. They didn't work because they're not good jokes. Some really bad jokes logs that, I can't believe those are the ones that got pregnant. But I think even in that PBS special that, that ran about Carson. That was always like, even as a kid, I was probably like ten or eleven. I always love when he bombed I loved it. And so this not insert this. But I'm working on a new our that'll be filming later on this year and all these hours, look the same right aesthetically. So I thought I want to do something different. So I'm going to talk show, but I'm the only one on the talk show. Seven watching all these things out of research because I do twenty minutes. A monologue jokes that I've worked with artists Hamilton at the store twenty minutes, a panel twenty minutes to stand up and visually a look like you're watching an old time, talk show, but it's just three different ways and styles of writing. Which I thought it'd be fun. So we'll do that later on. But I I love. And even when we're structuring the hour long like monologue jokes. We.

"I love that show. You loved family matters. I did. I did. I like sitcoms Sirois I'll give you that. I'll give you that phone. Here's the thing single cams. Get all the notoriety and all the press. But when you do a single Cam, you film, the Juki I think we got it when you do a multi came in front of a lifestyle, it's like you either got it or you didn't. You gotta keep going until you do. So I don't know. I, I have a lot of respect, but, like married with children, as my like literally one of my favorites of all time. Cheers, I love all those. We're gonna thank you for coming by. Children with cheers next time you know what? I, I think they're all terrific a show. It was not my Cup of tea. But what is your multi, Cam, my mom always like choice with? It's a great question. What would it be? Friends was French, not yet. I guess friends, friends. Okay. Yeah. At the end of the day, friends was friends, the last big multi camp show. Big bang, Raymond. Thank you. Bastet who's that? How I met your mother was pretty big. I thought those pretty I don't think as big, though is CBS shows CBS, the only. Oh, the mall, taking yesterday multi Cam drama from. Gary just got a call back. Dizzy channel shows are all multi Cam. Yeah. But like the network shows have largely given that up aside from CBS. You're right. Yeah. I guess, all time, would you all in the family would be my my all time? That's great. I love that. Yeah. Girls, obviously up there for me, right? Of course it is right? By the way, if you want your half golden, girls shirts that pride. Go to target. Racks and. At the target I was out over the weekend. It's like, well, that's a lot of pride is half off gum rainbow colored Sophia. Issue the target and Culver city. You will be able to save some money actually a pair of this win trunks. That looked not golden girl. But pride that again, we'll be half off today that look like half of yesterday. Fuck about those quotes they go past. That's what they Jim. That's all do. I saw Philadelphia. Going to a movie without those guys trying to fuck you. No doubt my mind. Somebody my Facebook page someone thought that's what Philadelphia was about to our fuck. Behest. I'm sure that's all they saw the close-minded big any sex in that movie. There might be one. They go into the movie through that. How we go? I don't. That's how it started. That's kinda. That's how he got eight. Okay. Yeah, it's the first ever masturbated to. Sorry. That was funny. But swing swing. All right. Let's, let's check in anyway, this, I believe it's gonna be a net flicks. The between two oh, it's not the ethical. I think it's is it Netflix or theatrical, I think something's Netflix next produced it. But I think sometimes yeah, sometimes we go see it. Yeah..

"So what are they change in the name of it? I don't know you'd have something to do with. It's called noble Elliott. Well, everyone's immediate reaction is get your resumes, ready and you're gonna be job. Van year going to close the is often what happens when a company like that. But we need somebody that's like sporting good stores. We need you need to go somewhere to try the mid on you can't just based nine baseball gloves, and Hopi, and then return eight you have to try them out why we can't close. Every Boehner says they're not gonna do that, that this because they change. Okay. Okay. So they're on board with the book. All right. We'll see good luck guarantees gonna suck deaf to go through that fucking job searching. Once movie the first time. By the way, just your luck that you finally find a job in Barnes and noble lacks up radio shack, or the yellow pages. Circuit city. State of the art there. Oh, that's point. Bit boring weekend Circuit City to make a comeback. I heard they were true online sort of thing. This is a while ago. And it hasn't materialized maybe. I used to, like, Circuit City circuit suburbs. I you can't turn it off. Just gonna keep. Could you try to? A Mexican remember. A hardworking people in this country. I get it. Good for you. Well, we're gonna throw some tariffs your way that'll slow eat. Hey, let's over I meant to mention this yesterday. Oliver Albert's my eleven year olds not Steve. Yes, we went to see I am not allowed to give a lot of details because of an NDA. But we went to see a screening of the, the between two ferns movie. Oh, we went to see that. And. Lafley crazy, close great lots of fun. That's a funny and it's got to augment of courses. And even a lot of say this directed it. You are. There's a lot. That's now I was told so. No cast information. Okay. That's exactly right. There's no cast information. You know why there's no, caste interesting holograms? Really, really funny. Great. Really, really funny. What's that? He took Oliver. I asked Scott advance. I said, you know, a good gauge would be spinal tap. He likes that I give some other examples, where's this land adult wise? And he said he counted the Fs. He said, hotel Rwanda. That's all got the poster on the wall. He loves done Cheeto. Goes Don Cheadle because I can't tell you the cat. So we he loved it. Oliver loves disgrace Oliver loved it. There's, there's not really a content that there's some Fs but otherwise the content is very very if they took the out. It'd be very kid friendly. Yeah. That'd be exciting for him to get to go to at Vance like see. He was excited about it the result. So a gentlemen there again, I don't wanna give at can't say anything, there was a gentleman there that excited him and then Oliver when he met the young man who came over to us, it's a gentleman when he came over, and I said, hey, Oliver and hovers is lit up. And he goes out, you for, you know, this gentleman from blah, blah, blah, and I explained you know, Oliver's been watching that. And then Oliver pulled out a another credit. Another credit that then this his eyes open. So Oliver pulled the one A and then it was. So that was cool. So what was it to, to mute? Julia white from Jimmy matters. I can't pull this. Catchphrase. That he's a talent to gentleman who got a bad rap. So I'd free shit. If you would be my, my sister, ROY. Yes. Movie last year. Right. And was pretty good in it. Oh, that sounds great. On that show. It was. I mean he Royce fucking phenomenal..

"I think the one thing that I will say is one of the defining features of the original is Robin Williams being Robin Williams. He's like super funny. I mean it's even watching now, you're like, okay, he's just kind of doing whatever, but it worked in the context of the movie at the time was, like this is bringing something new to an animated movie. He's just he's improvising. He's being crazy. And I feel like Will Smith has the ability to be funny and I just feel like he wasn't really super funny. Like you know what, you know what the problem was? And I know exactly what it was. You can't laugh at a dude that shredded. And so, like, all I can't dumping. Yeah, you're super skinny or meakers. Right. She nobody. Let's laugh at jacked. I I've been saying that for for years. I'm sure you've whenever there's way too handsome of comic. That's not to say that you were not a handsome guy. I'm talking about two handsome. Nope. Not you've not had a hard time in high school dude. John Mayer was doing comet the seller, Mike, beat it. You got you got the tar on stage you might as well just make candles to and be. Get outta here. Let us have this ours go fuck at ten. By the way, I don't understand that. John Maher thing I know ladies love him. But he's, we're he's kind of creepy. Franken a handsome guy plays guitar with you voice. I get it. I Lisa is in love with him, like in her top five musicians of all time way too high also like one of her dream I get it. If I can understand the music, seducing a woman sensitive, and whatever. But just the just the look of him is I don't know. I don't get it. But I'm with you who is a guy you see that you like I get it. Brad pitt? In person once damn, I get it. Fucking just like a steady like yeah. Guess I'm suing my parents. Can't some Clooney ham, clearly. Yes. I mean, these, I'll tell you how good look and John Hammas, boy, I went to after EMI's party, and he came over to talk to my buddy who's. College. Oh, strike comes over to this group of people that talks to Colin Jost. So it's calling me three girls. Another dude and Jon Hamm. So John and Colin are catching up. Right. Colin gets pulled away by his girlfriend fiance, Scott Johannesen. So now Jon Hamm is stuck in this circle with these people, right? He doesn't even wait he I'm sure this happens to them all the time, but he goes, he just looks at everybody takes a sign. He goes, well, I gotta take a shit any walks away, he walks away within a second. The one girl goes Gotti. So hot. I was he said he's got a. Could care less. That would be in this other do just said he gotta take a shit. Still. It's still winds. Still is still win. Godless, and by the way, let's Colin Jost. He's east up there to get some guy, head of hair on paid smart. The other day on the show on paper, I should hate everything about that guy. Because he's handsome. And he's obviously been handed everything. But he's a great joke writer and he's very funny. And I'm with you. Scrammed. But he is also this book called he works as azoff. He's a very hard worker. He's earned everything he's ever gotten. It's why we did radio one time together Nashville. And this is when you realize your place in the world, right his because he goes, so he's just jazz, talked to Colin call..

"Was not Steve. I look at your direction to respect for you. As my guest just happened to be in the line of fire. I'll take that more than my next guest steep. This guy. Guys, don't let that own Benjamin talk confused, Steve's, a funny man. And he's got some good ideas. I wouldn't worry about on, don't listen to you that bullshit. He's wrong about everything. He just said. Now, listen yes, say the name of the documentary, and, and they're willing on until about. Ship. But let's get the the actual name of it out. Always always amazing always amazing. It's amazing Jonathan. I the pleasure of opening four and may and maybe you can speak to this little bit. I opened for him way back in the early nineties a catch a rising star in Saint Louis and truth. Be told off the stage couldn't stand the guy could not stand him at all. That said, I watched every show now that's the reason I bring that up. Is it points out how great he was on stage was no matter how much of a dickhead, he was to me off stage. He was so great onstage that I that I had to watch every show talents superseded the personnel, and sometimes it's tough is a comedian. Because there's guys we all know we're like I can't stand that guy and you can't get over you like I won't even laugh at that because I know hundred hundred percent where's with Jonathan was like I wanted to be in the room, every second and is still didn't vary. All that much. Sure. There was enough little. Differences, and what he was doing the nightly basis was phenomenal. Yet, look, he, it's so easy for any of us to look at magic, that's kind of corny but it's still kind of cool. Right. But Jonathan took it to a to another level where everything he did on stage was rooted in failure. So the jokes fail the magic fails. But in the end, it kinda worked out. Yeah. So to me, it's almost like there's a lot more creativity to craft a magic trick that at the end of the day is going to suck but be great as opposed to just straight. No, it's got a cool. And I think that, that's what endeared Jonathan many fans the fact that he he's, he's not, he's, he's legitimately crazy as you experienced. I mean, there's a really, really warm soft side to Jonathan that we encapsulate, represented the film. And then he's, he's the first to admit you know that sometimes he's, he's not the greatest. I think he's absolutely accepting warts, and all of who he is the life. He's led. And I think that the films are great representation of him, and that, and it's on YouTube, and you don't need you to read or anything like that for it. You know we didn't even monetize it. We just put it up for free because when I finished the film. We tested a few times. We went to ATC festival in Phoenix. Got a great response and my goal when I I did it was I wanted to complete the film before Jonathan is it with a sunny logger because that's always rumor right that he rumor on the internet. Like, oh, the amazing Jonathan died. And then somebody would know he didn't, and then six months later. Oh, no. He did. Like, why is that is he is horribly unhealthy no well, well, or she's drugs note for pranks? He's a self admitted prankster. He loves pulling pranks on people, but essentially, Jonathan was one of the first guys to pop off a comedy central in the nineties early two, thousands, and made a killing off at internationally, Australia everywhere. And then he got tired of the road became a Vegas headliner posted up at the nugget broke Sinatra's record for most consecutive sold out, shows downtown at the nugget, and then is diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which is essentially a degradation of your heart. So his hardest. I think operating now fifty five percent. Capacity. Maybe even less. And if you know him, he's got a he's got a rapid fire energy, kind of presence on state, so it's not good. So he retired from stand up. He said, I'm done performing,.

"Grand opening is happening. So it's like I'll see what dissolve it was like eight o'clock on a Thursday couple of weeks ago. So I launched it, and it was Bob Eiger, the president of Disney comes out. He standing on a stage in front of the millennium falcon and he's makes them awkward stilted comments. Then they bring out George Lucas, which I was kinda surprised that George was there because he's kind of he's not a hermit, but he doesn't seem to he's not doesn't. He's not part of it anymore. He sold the company. So it was interesting that. Elliott's Elliott's up at about. It was interesting that he was there. And he's just kind of a grump. And so he just kind of made some, some comments that weren't very inspiring. It was going. Okay. Then they bring out more gambling. Wow. Holy. Oh, no, no, I'm sorry. Then they brought out. Billy Dee Williams as like damn. Billy, Billy Dee Williams is here. That's cool. Yeah. It was like, okay that's going to be the level, and then they bring Mark Hamill. You're like holy shit. Mark Hamill is here. Then they point up to the cockpit and shoebox in the cockpit, and they're like, let's fire it up, and the falcon, and he's like ends like food Nunu, and the whole bit is that it won't start because it's a hunk of junk, and then Bob Eggers, like, Mark, do you know anyone who could help with this, and he was like, oh, maybe he does not? And then you hear Jim may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts and fucking Harrison Ford, walks out, and you're, like, are you shitting me like how when was the last time these people were standing together, I was crazy as a fantasy it. But then, of course Harrison Ford being Harrison Ford, the there was a there was a thing that was supposed to happen. He was supposed to walk under the falcon and hit it. And then it was supposed to start. So he walks over lifts. Tsa's arm up. But then turns around and goes this one's for you. Peter, which is a very nice sentiment for Peter Mayhew. But of course, the people running the thing probably didn't know he was going to do that. And so they're like, did you hit it? Did he not it? So they pressed the button and it goes. And then he like it starts up as he saying this is for you Peterson, you can barely hear him, then he turns around and hits it but it's already started like this is a fucking train this worst run than podcast. This up. It's Disney then he'd reached hackenberg. Yeah. They really be diverse that or something. It was it was painful to watch and yet also very cool. Yeah, but south doped up, right? Isn't it just higher than a kite, course? He's still thinks that airings a good call. You know, the amount of THC that guy's system, given day got to He be could good. bring him out. Make a tincture out of. Put some drops under your tongue that'll help you out, whatever you need so mad. I, I have a question if I'm so I haven't seen the photos I could show you many. If you. I imagine you. What did you did you do any like, Disney bounding? Did you wear your Boba fett sweatshirt and like that? I did not. I worry, I warmly volunteered. Zoe had. Buns like like not Princess Leia buns, because they're smaller more like actually, Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lord isn't as sort of an extra kind of glorified extra and enforce awakens, her hair. It's like the smaller version of the Princess, Leia hair. That's what Zoe was doing. But no, I, I honestly felt like I don't wanna be that guy. Like I felt like I'll wear Delware t shirt, but I'm, I'm here to enjoy this not to pretend I'm going there by we'll say like walking through the tunnel to get in. I didn't get a little joked up. And I got I got I got goosebumps. And I, I mean I really I was saying this to the kids on the way down there on Friday. Bit goes back to is my earliest memories of being three years old and going to, to see the first movie it's like a dream..

"With. I don't eat. Yup. Sure, Jimmy, you don't know they'll the lore of Star Wars. But the thing that makes lightsaber go is called Khyber crystal and depending on which color, Christly have, that's what controls the color of the blade. So you pick out your Khyber crystal you pick out different components. And then you build it with, with help from someone everybody, there, everybody who works. There is play acting as if they're in Star Wars. Nothing has stores branding on it. It's all unlike the rest of awesome. Unlike the rest of Disneyland, it's a completely different approach, which is once you're in there, you are, in your in there, you're in the movie or whatever, you know, it, it, it sort of takes place, after the most recent movie after last yet, I 'cause there's stuff going on that, you know, the, the Ray is there, Kylo Ren shows up all the we didn't see him. What about Darth Vader, does he show up or is that going is world? Yeah, he does not show up because he Darth Vader. Well, you can see Darth Vader in Tomorrowland stone now wants team this. You're a hamburger stand. Yeah. Well, there's, there's a meet and greet area in Tomorrowland where you go into a room and you can meet him. Oh, that's right. Hand. Your there's another you can eat. There's there's him. Kylo Ren Chewbacca. And Ray the beauty of that, by the way, is always the line for Darth Vader is out the door. He wants to go on the head. You got your time. Yeah. Yeah. You can see all three of those in the time we would say one person see very popular. Yeah, yeah. But we did see tobacco we that we met you Charlie again, like the merch I, I will say, ninety percent of the experiences shopping like that's there's one ride a second ride's gonna open later this year. And, and then there's the, there's food and the canteen, obviously, but most of it is walking around and seeing the crazy details of how they built it. Which is it's beyond anything I've ever seen in, in a theme park like the Hogwarts thing that universals pretty cool. This is like ten times more impressive than that. It I mean easily the everywhere you look there's some cool little thing, you're like, oh my God. That's K us from rogue. One is like behind it like his parts taken apart. He's like stashed in, in a cage in this droid thing that where you there's a droid factory where you can build your own droid. That sounds fun. So the, the lightsaber thing you can only you put your name in, and then you have to commit to spending two hundred dollars always that different than they, you could build that, like saber outside that it's star tours towards re could walk by. And I think it's obviously, it's probably better quality so yeah, it's a fancier, although I saw, you know, I expected it would be like the handle would be medal and everything 'cause it's like so expensive, but that's still plastic. It's just a nicer, I don't know what I don't know what the difference is you're paying for the experience. Probably on some level. I saw video actually where they there's like a ceremony. They do the explain all the parts in WI with a significance and suffered leg. Like you're actually a jet I a trainee who's, who's building their lightsaber, and that's what everything is. Like when you interact with the cast members there, everything is like, you know, they're talking to you, as if you're visiting two, which is the name of the planet, which is cool a little weird, you know, because especially because it's new, you're just kind of like, where's the bathroom, and they're like many moons like shut up. I just want to. David. Fair something. No. Where was he at the like, Tony tina's wedding? Low. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Eight it probably looks good. Right. Yeah. But if you like Star Wars it's mind league great. I mean, I don't know what it would be like, if you don't really care about store..

"But we came back later into the second time because there's different jobs is six people per thing, and you can be the pilot or the engineer the governor, so it's funny, people can go on at one time. Well, there's there's, there's multiple, you know, places so there's more than one ship inside the thing, each each cockpit has six chairs so many concerned, it's like a rollercoaster with thirty people can go at one time. I don't know. You don't see anybody else. So I have no idea. It's more like I guess it's like I don't think star tours is like this where there's multiple cars. It's obviously better than star tours. Yeah. Yeah. I mean it's it's because you're controlling your actually when you steer left. Everything goes let the motion control thing that you are controlled great, which is very cool. And it looks yeah, it looks amazing. Now when you go, there with children, as I assume you did, or I don't know you. Yes, we did. Do you let them steer? Charlie didn't want to Zoe d. Good. So. Yeah, the first time on me and Zoe were the two pilots, and then the second time Elision Zoe where the pilots Charlie just wanted to be the engineer because all you have to do as a button. Okay. He's like, didn't want a lot of responsibilities. So he was like I'll just be engineer both times. And so, yeah, his job was when the every in every situation, things light up and just have to press them. But the steering the one pilot goes steers left. Right. The other pilot controls up and down. And also that pilot which I didn't get to do the best job, which is you get to pull the lever to go into hyperspace. He's like that child do that. Yeah. But the but the cockpit every just like everything in this whole crazy place. Looks so real it looks exactly like the movie, you really do feel like you're like somehow got onto the set of Star Wars. It's, it's the detail is insane it every control. Looks real blending falcon, and you're also seeing it fresh. Yeah. This isn't two years of Bill found there and yeah. Yeah, that's what my mom said when I was talking to her last night. But what's weird is because the whole world and Star Wars in general is kind of like this. Everything is kind of worn on purpose kind of beat down, so, like brand new everything. But they're still, you know, like if you go into the bathroom, which is insane. Like it's a they put a lot of thought into what a bathroom at star in, in the world, and was would look like, but you look up and there's like, you know, rust stains on the ceiling, but it's not real. They painted strains which is kind of funny, but everything's like that. So the cockpit, there's wear and tear everywhere, because it's supposed to be the, you know, the millennium falcon supposed to be like a clunky old rape. But you said difference between wearing tear and then yes and wear and tear. I like the real actually fifths. Button's been touched four thousand time. I've million kids come through here with lakes sticky ice cream hands. Yeah. Right. Yes, we didn't have to deal with that, which is very how long have you been open a week and a half. So that's it. Yeah, we were there on the eighth day. Great. That's when God created rock and roll. Yeah. Yeah. So the one thing that happened because we didn't immediately get in that line for the Cantina is that then when we came out, and we kind of I didn't really think I was just too busy, like, taking it all in which I'm not I don't, I'm I, I don't regret like, you know, experiencing it and being in the moment, but we kind of were just kind of looking around we got some blue milk, and, and then we and we're like, let's get in the line for the Cantina just to put our names in and we got in that line..

What's he doing though? He. Just directed like goosebumps too. And he's, he's making movies. I mean bless him. He was dating one of the fucking smoke hottest checks. I'd never seen by with a greater resume than are essential that girl, he dated lives right around the corner. Just had her second kid. I think she'd married to someone else still smoking hot course. Ari send L was. He he. So for those, you don't know ours was friends with you Neal Brennan, like you guys had a little bit of a group at the store at the time, like well, are would come into the show is because he is great friends with a med, and I met, I met Ari through med and Ari. Obviously through Peter and Vincent, everybody else. So. Yeah. And so green guy good looking guy, really dialed into the business. Yeah. He did. He would just they just give him money to shoot. Whatever he wanted. He did like travel, log. Yeah. And one time he just goes, I went to Boston standing about Boston. But this is my travelogue, finding a bar and he just showed video tape. He shot a fistfight at a bar and Boston. And we were it was like watching bugging vite videos on YouTube television, light each other up, and we were like we just watched a bite. The did he, he was great. But yeah. God, dammit. I remember looking at video, you guys dead or pictures. You guys had a trip guys all took to resort to some lake house. Something, I'll yeah are sent all his parents own a lake house out there. He's got a boat and we went out there. I think for the fourth of July and like we've been parties, where, you know you go in. I mean I like I literally felt like the ugliest human being on the facing. I just went to always Christmas party. It was like am. I, I wanna sue my parents. This is crazy like they all fucking stunning. The guys looked stunning. And then the girls whose like Jesus Christ, man, dude, I, I look at that. Now, leeann just got laser treatment yet on. And she looked really young for. But, you know for her but. But we got into a fight last night. So I got high on rose Ouston. Yeah. Stings spiraled, and I walked in and I had a good news. And she didn't receive it. I got a bag a turmeric. It's called tomb, Rick said, no. It's turmeric trust me. I learned today. No tomb, Rick and fucking. I don't even know where this story is going. But. Liam Lance face looks good. That was my whole fucking point of my story. Well, what were telling and by the way, I think your wife is so down to earth. And I think especially knowing industry and everything else. Look, what one of the nicer things ever had happened in all my years, I only got offered a ride home from the airport wants from another comedian was you and your white, you had your wife had pulled up. And she said, getting we'll drive you home and always remember that. So thank you. But, but your point was recollecting upon your shows about the great man. I never really I never really I never really appreciated them until they were gone. And then I think when I got fired from travel channel there was so much long like a like a real emptiness that I was like I wonder if I put this love back into stand up, and that's why the right now I'm like, I'm so dialed into like everything should be a blast. Everything should be fun. It this is only live this once I'm not going to get to do this, again this way. It'll never be as. Fun in two years. It'll be considered work again. It's you know, but wait. Then what when it got cancelled. How did you find out cancelled? Okay. So the three seasons we were on. I mean, no acknowledgement that we even existed all this talk about diversity and all this stuff. But, like things fucking frustrating with a second Asian American like sitcom ever on television. Nobody gave a shit, but gyp shin guy an Asian and a white guy like three Asians, and we nobody gave a five but, like we're the highest rated original program on TBS at the time and a new president comes in, and what I learned learned all about the business understand why it's not profitable for them. So they just asked us, it's part of the business, but I always knew at some point. It's no, it never happened. I was remember that. So I just try to enjoy every day. So I was over in Israel doing this, this entertainers like trip where they invited a bunch of people that I do things in entertainment over there for this trip. And I went over there and yeah, I found out I got cancelled over there. So that was tough not being home. It was tough hearing, these phone call. Calls from my friends, because everybody was kind of, like feeling like we got a real legitimate shot at getting renewed. So it was kind of defeating, but I always I was always prepared for it. I knew someday. You're not gonna get to come back. So when it happened, it was like, okay. Well didn't happen. And then once it got cancelled like I'd done late night. Talk shows before, then and the minute I got my sitcom nobody wanted anything to do with me, like I couldn't get on late night. Talk shows. I didn't have a manager at the time. And my agent reached out to all the top management companies, a tier level Beecher, no one would even meet with me. And I was like you had sold in son. When I had I my third season of a show on my third hour specialist coming out, and no one would meet with me. And I'm telling you, Bert, like I'm not making it up as Schuler you know, because I was asking him for advice. No one would fucking meet with me, and I went into a deep. Depression, when the show got cancelled because I was just on my own, you know. And I had I film this hour and it went to Showtime, and like nobody gave us shit. I couldn't get on anything to promote. It was this the joke are there's a joke. You had one of the I think of this once a month. I'm going to by the way, this was never near special. And you just said it once and it was something you'd want to hang your hat on. Okay. Just say, I don't know that Joe you're talking about, and wink at me. Okay. You go enough with the holocaust movies. Oh, that was in a special. Can you imagine if they made to gigantic movies? Yeah. Yeah. Like you go into pitch them and it's like okay I wanna make a film about Jack and about about the Titanic. It's like have you heard of Titanic is the biggest ever, but this one's a little different? It's like how's it different? We know the story, Jack and rose. This is store of a couple of doors down from jacket. I love that joke. I was in the back of that, sir. For that's what stopped me from working. I joke made me laugh so fucking hard because, you know, this is a couple to them. Story. Holocaust. How many we're gonna make those all right? But, but anyway. So all this stuff comes out, and nothing's clicking. And I've always been somebody that's like. The industry has no you shit. Nobody owes you shit. Nobody does you flying fuck. So you're going to sit here and fucking cry over spilt milk, or you're gonna pick yourself up by the bootstraps, and get back on the sat on force yourself to worse than doing the world the hardest thing. But I wrote the opening act out of all that depression, I was so run into the ground, I said to myself, I'm gonna do the one thing, no comics ever done. And that's right. The most proper authentic film, about stand up comedy and I think I compost it. I can't I can't say whether I did or not because it's always up to the audience is always up to the legacy of what these films do on their own or how they received. But I think everything I did for that film, that will come out probably twenty twenty I think, I think I may have cracked it. How do you say, how do you make a movie? This is the simplest question, but it's so complex and tricky. Well, look, I did the, the asinine thing of doing a documentary. And as that was kind of wrapping up. Yeah. You started your was starting already started always amazing. Yeah. And I knew that was in. That was what you're you're working on. And then all the sudden, like waving before that even was ready to come out. I'm making a movie also. Well what happened was I was doing. The doc on Jonathan, and I'd written opening act. Again, I gave it to vents and he read it in a month later. He goes, I think you really have something here, Steve. And so, so for six months, I was writing retooling it on the road. But the other half of the time I was working on the stock. So when the dock was kind of, in its tail end of like shooting and getting together that's when I found out that we're making the opening act. So how do you find that out how who decides it? Well, we we'd beaten the script into good enough shape and the script the whole process probably like a year and a half where taking my initial script, and then really honing it in and getting it in great tight shape. We can take it out to investors Vince, had just on a show called brawl and cellblock ninety nine that is fucking phenomenal. And it's an independent film. I think I complete departure from anything ever does. It's fucking phenomenal. And the financier that film said they were looking to do a comedy in Vince goes. I think I got something for you. All kind of like good, timing course gives it to him and within a month. It's like art wrong. I was like, oh shit. So he's like, what do you want to do? I was like, well, I'm too young to play the wise sage headliner, and I'm too old. To play the MC and feature. Like I dunno invents goes direct it, you know, this, and I was like, yeah. Yeah. Y'all do outdoor directed. I fucking read everything I could every book I could read I reached out for big Leah who's, who's the only comic. I know that's done like y'all directed. A bunch of phenomenal with me wait. Being. Yeah. Sleepwalk with me and, and don't think twice both films. And I knew I could ask him and he was he was so kind and giving up his time to me, and I watched masterclasses Werner, Herzog's Scorsese, the Ron Howard won was beyond my favorite master class. I took. And I watched that three or four times, because he was the most kind of, like accessible in terms of being a great conduit, or the information, and I'll tell you, I read, directing for dummies bird, everything I could get and nothing still prepared me for the absolute. You know, storm that hits you day after day for twelve hours, a day of directing it's all encompassing..

"Brand new podcast. And I am on my way to Auckland June fifteenth June twentieth. I'm in Sydney with two shows the twenty second in Melbourne, a notes Melbourne, but I say melborn because I grew up in Florida with a Melbourne Florida and then Brisbane and Perth there's a show left in Brisbane. I think all Perth shows are sold out or vice versa. That's the twenty six twenty ninth and thirtieth respectively. Respectively. Learn that when I was in high school on the twenty seventh of July, I am at the met in Philly, make sure tickets for the met in Philly that that will sell out. It's really close right now. So make sure your tickets, I can't promise that we're going to do another show. Come riding a bike to Atlantic City, the very next day. Yes. So stupid, why you doing that? I like challenging myself. How many miles is that seventy something that is dumb? You're not gonna make that. Are you really going to do that? UPC shit. Being serious Bihar baby. I take spin glasses. Oh my God. You this may be the dumbest dumbest moment ever really. You're going to really consider riding a bike seven hundred sitting signed up for it. Are there any hills? Philadelphia saw downhill you go to the beach. Everything leeann everything goes to see level. Zero right? So we're going to Atlantic City. My god. Everything goes to zero your, it's all downhill eventually. But there's hills in Philly. Leeann the whole point of this country is everything goes up from sea level. So if you ride to the beach, just going downhill, you know, I don't know how you tested in the twentieth. Percentile highest Intel intellect in this country. And you're having this conversation with me that is the dumbest thing ever heard note is not a downhill slope from Philly to see though. No, it doesn't make sense. All you need to accomplish your goals is to rationalize it in your head. Okay. That's all you need in life is rationalization to believe you can achieve things also might start a self help podcast. I'll my where just give little you know, we're going to do that. We're going to do that today. Allston Burke rice yourself help. And it's going to start with this once called blind. Ignorance. It's gonna go. We're gonna take this today. My number Kreischer today's lesson on self help with Bert rationalizing goals. On July twenty eighth. I'll be riding my bike from Philadelphia to Atlantic City this by yourself. Where are you getting this bike? You don't have a bike in Philly there. You're taking that by Philly how ship it. You are. This is the this, this is really a cockamamie idea star. It's actually a brilliant idea. On june. Twenty eighth of July twenty eighth. I'll be riding my bike from Philadelphia Atlantic City. A lot of people say that's going to be tough. All you have to do as rationalize your goal. It's downhill, we're just going to see level people Philadelphia is what's check check the altitude of Philadelphia eventually, you'll be zero. But you have to go down on the way Philadelphia halston altitude elevation of. Proving my point. What's the altitude? Thirty nine thousand feet. So eventually, you'll be fair planes lie about that was the altitude of Philly. Oh my. Oh my. The altitudes thirty nine feet. That's only forty thousand all my God. So it's so flat. Boy, I love your rationalization. It's really working out for you. Oh my God. You to have to peddle you're gonna have to push that Bert Kreischer. Fucking feed halston. Yeah. You can't even downhill you can't even go in four stories. Downhill fucking kidding me. Over seventy seven miles, this was a great plan? Who came up with this plan. Of course, there are is, as part of Apalachee as a runoff edge of Appalachia in mountains. I mean, you know, alot. There's a McDonald's drive-thru with a really steep hill about that. You may have to walk the bike up the drive through ramp. Joy twenty-seventh at the met in Philly. And then the next day we're driving, our bikes to Lennox city. So if you wanna sign up, I think it's might be too late. But if you really, really, really wanna sign up for doing it for a good cause plus the cost, actually. No, I wasn't listening and some orthopedic surgeon, you're gonna need someone done when you blow out your knees or go to spin class all the fucking time. What was the last time you went spanker little while because I was sick because I was it was like March is now June. This is a crazy FILA grew. Siggia Silla goose from don't be calling me to rub your back. That's a dumb dumb. Dumb L option. We gotta ride our bikes back. Back. No, maybe I'll just rent a bike out there. I don't know how you're going to get that bike to Philly. How do you ship a super easy actually haven't resource center was going to say, how do you know, and, you know what's going to happen, I will have to ship the dam by what happens? Can you fly with the bike? What happens in my brain is you can't carry it on what happens in my brain. Is just blind confidence. Yeah. I know. Oh my God. Twenty two hundred miles is a tour to France. How many stages in how what's an average day on the tour de France to go tickets shit. My stomach's bothering me now. Is it like is it really fucking far, especially when it is relatively flat, or hilly go, that's going to be like, seven hours of bike riding a yeah. Listen that no. I wish you hadn't said any of this? Leeann. I wish you hadn't said any of this, you know, bay, there's a reason that we are a team I live in reality. I do. And you know, is really inspiring to be married to a dreamer. But sometimes I don't know. Sometimes you might your dreams may be little to let's, let's workshop in new podcast called blind confidence. Okay, there's a new podcast with Berkeley's her called blind confidence. It's myself help podcast. Okay. Maim something that you think is unbelievable. And I will tell you immediately why I can do it. What is something you do the names, name anything, and I'll tell you why I can do it. Oh, it's blind confidence. It is the rationalization that goes on in my head with any feet of, of, of endurance. Minimal skill endurance, aptitude intensity. Gimme from halston skydiving without a parachute. Now, hold on a second. I if I- tiny Kelly. No. Travis Pastrana, did it di- is Sam do you want me to latch onto someone or do you want to do it like a man, however land on a slope a graded slope could land on a graded slow and just slide him? Yeah. That's how it works. And so it was a woman in Germany, who's in a plane crash. Everyone died except for her. She was a flight attendant. She was in the back of the fuselage and the plane landed on a mountain and slid just get down amount. She skidded down the mountain. So I probably do that. Listen, I'm not saying, like I've you go and get up out of a plane jump out and do it. But I'm saying what I'm saying is in the event of a plane crash fuselage opens up. I am now skydiving parachute. I would definitely. Look for some vantage points to the right into the left below beyond work, my way over and try to slide down a mountain. That's why people wear those squirrel suits. Yeah. Same exact reason same. Exact thing. I believe in you. Thank you. Allston leeann give me a feat. I don't know. I don't I don't I don't live in that world of like extreme stuff. So I don't know enough about. Fifteen years ago today? Yeah, that was terrible. You could never did that you don't have a uterus. No know you can't give birth to a child. But I definitely, by the way, I definitely just could not get Birtwistle that, that's something I could not if you're hearing this, we are in Bali, but happy birthday to our daughter, Georgia is her birthday today. She turned fifteen today today, and it's been a fun fifteen years for has she's gonna grow by so fast has she's been a great fifteen years ago today. I was making seven hundred dollars on the road as how much money I was making a featuring. Stay years ago today, I was sitting in my own shit, piss and blood immerse walked out of the room and turn the lights out on a left me there shaking an shock it was terrible to Georgia into the receiving room where Leone there were supposed to was going to be the ends room. And I waited with my family and my sisters and crowing came in and we all wait a few show up someone after twenty minutes goes, where's Lianne like oh, shut away. Now you wanna go check on her nose. I can but but he's zone away. And like maybe go check, so I went and you are interim one help I was I gave birth right before shift change happened at the hospital, and so like shift change happened at like seven, and I think Georgia was born at seven twenty five so they literally cleaned her up and like somewhat they stitched me up, and then walked out of the room and said, someone will be back to help you clean up and get to the rim. And the last nursed out turn the light. It's out on me and left me. I was literally whole body was shaking because I was having a bad reaction. I had a botched epidural. So my, my whole body was like shaking, and nobody came back, and I didn't have the button, you know how they give you the button to press I didn't have the button. So I just sit sat there and shake started going help anybody they never came back for me footing soldierly, they must've knee, and they eventually would have needed the room. I guess I to deliver another baby and found me for dehydrated shaking him own juices. It was awful. Speaking of reflecting that is a lot of what happens on this podcast today. Today's podcast was Steve Byrne. I've known Steve for twenty years. There's things I didn't know about Steve because we're gonna be dead honest. I'm not that good of a friend, and I barely listen to people, I don't answer my phone. I don't reply to texts. I am really frustrating friend, Steve talks about that attack bit, but, but I didn't know anything about Steve, getting into comedy. I didn't know how quick it happened. I didn't know his relationship with amazing Jonathan known amazing Jonathan for about nineteen years, almost maybe, maybe almost less than that. Little bit less than that. But mazing Jonathan Steve made a movie. Steve may has made a couple movies. He's had a sitcom. He's a really inspirational guy in our business. Is that he just blaze? His own path did a documentary called always amazing about amazing Jonathan amazing. Jonathan was at death's door.
