"Of environmental justice. Work this is why katherine believes educating people of color is the next step in making the environmental justice movement more inclusive with people think of environment. They think of the green your pink of recycling or they we do see carbon to say that's what the environment has been maybe in the media so a lotta people are thinking. Oh you know this is how you know he will say in the earth and all of this. It's tied in but they're violence. Racism deals with making people understand. That are acting them on a daily basis everyday lives. We know that there's a large amount of leg in a lot of these apartments. In the inner city where black people people of color poor people live and they're not standing how this is affecting their children or just even the lack of trees being planted in certain areas which would improve the air quality helping communities understand how the environment can directly affect their everyday. Lives is a challenging effort but medicine says the organizations like arch city defenders in action saint. Louis involved with the report helps bridge the gap of intention that i think inherently comes when you have not only black organizations black let organizations that are actively working for Work than like. I feel like i assume that if i read a report from that lens i know that it's going to really be accounting for those who might not always be accounted for reports. I know it's not only going to be looking at one part of the city or the county. I know it's gonna really try and take this holistic view to show what's really going on. I think for people receiving it. If you see an organization that you know has been fighting for you helping you working for you. In a way is part of making this and then you start reading a read the stories of people that sound just like you are things that you're going through then it's easier for you to connect to that and easier for people to see themselves in an to realize that they can be part of this work and realize what injustices are being committed against the basically it really helps with education and bridging that divide that can sometimes exists between some forms of activism than like the people who are really directly experiencing problems. Were not always the people who have time to be an action or like to come to zoom meeting to do things people that are living at every single day. How can you continue to bridge the gap when the people you are trying to reach. Don't have access in. The pandemic is continuing to increase the divide. We already see. Colbert has taken people's voices away because we're in a situation where we cannot have community meetings. We can't go to the local church the correct center and talk about these issues and hear what people to have to say the things that you're doing before covert hit with the digital divides when we try to hold these meetings remotely. It doesn't it doesn't work. I mean we try. We do the best that we can when it's with the digital divide. We can't make it happen. There are too many people in this city too. Many black people in the city that don't have access to the computers to the high speed internet to everything that you need to make this a reality. So yes the people that we need to listen to our black people people. We need to listen to the people that are affected by it but for the past. I don't even know how long we've been in this now. For the past that's been covid. We have not been able to have these conversations or to hear these voices and frustrating in it's disheartening and the decades of disinvestment in specific areas shows us exactly who we need to listen to in prioritize. Speak about what happened. The areas of mike milkin value those heirs. These were areas that they knew that like people were occupying. When it's red redlining maps. These were were specifically told you know don't invest in these areas because there are black people in these areas so when we are speaking about the people that we need to listen to it's the people that occupy these areas into vast majority of the people in these areas especially these nord saint. Louis areas are black people for madison. Just listening to the average person's daily struggle can help with understanding environmental issues that can be intricate environmental justice language sometimes can feel exclusive for people like even for me like reading the report and go stephan like oh like this stuff does count as environments racism like i think this is death a lot of people just see as like mine normal tuesday like people who are in this situation. It is reality today. A lot of people don't necessarily realize like how great of an injustice is because people have been told that this is just the way it is your landlords. Not gonna fix anything. You just have to deal with it. This is where you live in the air. Quality is bad. there's nothing you can do. I think we have conversations about environmental justice. It's good that we're having these types in these times report in their have stories from people and then we have community meetings and stuff curry talk to people about what they're experiencing because like can take it away from academic sense where. I think some people can feel very disconnected. I study environmental justice. Anything about this. You like your do because it's life like every day you were living in this environmental racism. That has just been intentionally coupon you to hold you now. The intention of economic structural racism makes it even harder to balanced enforcement with equity especially when predominantly black communities. Have an over surveillance for years. We need to listen to the community to see what they want. Do you want these laws enforced more. Do you want more police looking for or not. And that's where we looked to our guidance. For what we would promote now changing the types of prosecutions once they're caught saying that illegal dumpers who are caught should face higher fines that has nothing to do with increasing policing it has to do with increasing prosecution against people that are harming minority communities for katherine a black woman who has lived in these communities and understands the issues from a personal perspective. It's about investment empower. You know always relate back to re envisioning what alex safety looks like and to me. It wouldn't be a distinction between the over police me because i don't even believe that's a job for the police. We don't need police to be out here enforcing code violations and things of that nature. That's the problem. I think that we have right now. Is having police in places where they're not needed so to me if we were truly investing in community and human services and things of that nature. We wouldn't have so much of a need for these things that we were investing in communities in north st louis instead of the investing in them. We wouldn't have all these you know vacant lots and we wouldn't have places where people feel. My there is no repercussions Dump neighborhoods with people that don't have a voice and it comes from us taking the power from the people in these areas in. They're not being listened to so no one cares what a black person in north st louis says because they don't believe that they have any power to say or.

"It tells of landlords who asked residents to paint over or even serve eviction notices when they speak up about black mold on their walls and ceilings and it explains how electric companies offer little help when bills are so high that residents avoid using a heater during winter or avoid using their stove or oven to cook meals for their family. Even though these stories weren't surprising to the advocates who contributed to the report terra was taken aback by some of the policies. That underlie the us. What surprised me. Frankly in in researching wide mold was an issue at what can be done about. It is that mold is not an issue in the occupancy code so it is not a code violation to have an entire wall full of malt. So open inspector walks into a house season entire walls. mold cannot do anything about it cannot four selenium or fix. It cannot do anything. It's just. It's not an issue for the housing inspectors so regardless of what they would want to say or would want to do. They don't have the legal power to say or do anything about it. If it were a code by elation to have mold in a home then people would have to fix it that people that own the property would have to fix it but instead the people who live there the tenants just have to make the choice to either live with it or break their lease lose their security deposit in ruin their credit similarly. What i found shocking was with respectable legal dumping of very very simple basic thing with illegal dumping their statutes on the books that allow the us circuit attorney and in some cases the attorney general's office to prosecute illegal numbers with up to a twenty thousand dollar fine instead of using those statutes. The only person that enforces illegal dumping is the city attorney's office those the only people that enforce it and under the under our constitution they are prohibited from assessing fines for over five hundred dollars. Which means it is often less expensive too dumb and risk of fine if you if you do get rich again is low risk then to pay the fees to actually dispose of your waist properly. So there's actually a financial incentive to dome and their statutes on the books to change that but they're just not being enforced and that's wild to me in. The legal dumping is rampant in the city. So that's not in the report but it stems from the report. And i find that shocking personally but just as policies can contribute to neglect of housing neighborhood. Conditions policies can also strengthen code enforcement antennas rights so for legal dumping. They could enforce the laws using the statutes. That actually have t. I know that if i was at risk bird. Twenty thousand dollar fine. I'd be a lot less likely to take that risk than if it was just a five hundred dollar slap on the wrist with vacancy legal services of eastern missouri has an amazing program to combat vacancy in saint louis. Our clinic actually works with them on that as well where we use existing statutes on the books to bring suit against Landowners who owned big properties and we use nuisance a recievership and abandoned housing acts laws to use the course to take the properties from those from those negligent land owners at put them in the hands of neighborhood associations and others who are willing and required to fix them up and make them useful properties. These are just some examples of policies approaches that can be implemented sooner rather than later other issues like air. Pollution might take more time to address but tara suggests the solutions are within reach. Could the city get more editors and put them around the city in various places in various areas including majority black areas. We can figure out exactly what the air pollution levels are very shares the city and what toxins were looking for so that we know what to do to make the city safe replace yes. Can we improve greenspaces. Can we take a lot. Since for them. Into greenspaces create urban farms and incentivize urban farms to bring fresh food well cooling down to your privileged greenspaces. There are a whole host of things that can be done. Catherine says the action saint. Louis is building power to achieve similar changes by proposing agenda called. The people's plants saint louis one of the platforms that have been in. There is making saint. Louis home is universal housing environmental justice and liveability for all saint louis planned dot org and get the information behind then it's about fifteen to twenty grassroots organizations that anger is a coalition of all of them. The plan just grew out of use of findings. Roseau's shared visions. Racism in saint. Louis is one of the reports that is included in the eagles. Plant the making saint. Louis home platform draws inspiration from the mental racism in saint louis report with demands such as increased air pollution monitoring conduct a citywide dumpster survey to ensure equitable placement and designate mold as sub-standard condition within the building or health and safety codes when we interviewed catherine and madison on january twenty fifth. These said that the report had received as much attention from local officials as they'd like but on january twenty eighth missouri democratic congresswoman corey bush reference the report in a press conference when she introduced the environmental justice mapping data collection act of twenty twenty one. A bill that she cosponsored with massachusetts democratic senator ed markey and illinois democratic senator. Tammy duckworth the statistic. Corey cited from the report. Black children and saint. Louis are ten times more likely to visit an emergency room for asthma and two point four times more likely to have lead in their blood than white children. The new federal bill is meant to be a tool to prioritize the forty percent of biden administration environmental funding that is allocated to communities most impacted by environmental racism. Tara says the local policy changes will also require that saint. Louis city officials make environmental justice a priority by allocating funding towards these solutions. It's too expensive not to do. The problem is more expensive than the solutions will. These kids going to e. r every every year when we don't provide access to easy healthcare and it's the hospitals that are bearing the costs because people without money can't afford good the er. The problem is more expensive than the solution investment. Butuan it always pays itself back. That's what i would say. Madison and catherine agree. Saying that the money is there but might me to be redistributed. What would it look like. If we took the chance to take that money reallocated into things that have been proven to work in places that were results have been seen to happen. You know and that is. That's millions of dollars. Spent over two hundred million dollars to the karsh schrool system policing jails courts etcetera yet. A lot of people argue that they don't feel any safer at all. We keep pouring money into things that don't work so when people tell me there's not enough money i feel like i have very little patience. Sometimes i apply really because i was looking at the city budget and i see her some of this money. Is i think a lot of us do it. Just you know you if you're gonna listen if you're not going to listen to the people into office and a lot of what they want and you're instead of going to allocate money other way incidentally then it's not necessarily a problem with the money not being there. It's just a problem of not really listening to the will of the people who are really impacted. How decisions that are being made..

We put together the report force. We were also able to speak to kathryn finishing in for action. Saint louis in madison roscoe community collaborations associate for art city defenders about the importance of working on their environmental racism. Report and catherine says the mission of action saint louis is the reason why it makes sense for them to be involved in compiling a report that directly affects the communities. They serve actress. Save louis we exist to build a future where every life can thrive in. We're communities are free of oppressive institutions. That have caused us harm again. It was founded by politicized. After the killing of mike brown in ferguson arising so we are constantly fighting to build power for by people in st louis the report outlines virus injustice but the justices actually disproportionately endanger of health for people of color and low income individuals in saint louis. And this is the work that we do. We are all about empowering and assisting the most marginalized people in saint louis which are black people and this coincides. Exactly with the type of work that we do and Roberts racism right into that even though our city defenders is a legal advocacy organization. Madison says their holistic approach. Is the reason why they wanted to get involved with the report. That means we're working with direct representation. Yes and civil rights litigation. Yes but then also media policy advocacy work in the community collaborations which department that. I'm a part of and that is really about building partnerships that are working to change saint louis building partners that are working to really address the issues mma things that the people that we are representing facing people like those who representing are facing answer. You know the environmental justice work. It's really part of this community collaborations in building partnerships. And we just recognize that all of this is so connected extra. Saint louis in city defenders. Were just two of the four local non working on the report with their main focus being community outreach and engagement catherine says coalition building and collaboration is important in change making work when we worked together these organizations. There's always you know plan but we've never forget about the people that were fighting four and you know so we get community engagement. We it's gonna take all of us to engage. The community is gonna take all these organizations to let people know. There are people on their team. So i think that's one of the reasons why you can't handle something as big as this. something stomach. is this by ourselves. So we're always about building collaborating and the dedicated students at washington university's interdisciplinary environmental law. Clinic are pushing everyone to work together to make saint louis in environmentally friendly place to live. We come back together semester after semester to work with students from the clinic in there's always a kind of renewed sense of understanding. This is why we're all here together and this is what we want to accomplish together and we need each other because we all bring different strengths. We all bring different. Skill says different knowledge to france and so being together on that team that makes us all stronger. The report was released. The end of twenty nine thousand nine hundred and in the following year the covid nineteen pandemic debated environmental issues and put a sense of urgency behind tackling them. Tara points to the differences in how white and black people live in saint louis an example of why it is important to pay attention to the information they released just months before the pandemic eight will if you looked into there have been a lot of studies done as of late about the between environmental racism and covert facts of the matter is is that black people all over the country but at and frankly a lot in saint louis have been being infected at rates higher than like people. The severity has been higher with black people and white people and they've been dying significantly higher rates that might people and that is because long term exposure to air pollution tumult to lead to all of this stuff has left people in a weakened state their bodies are less able to handle respiratory disease. People who are are aren't healthy are less able to handle getting sick there've Less able to recover from getting sick and they're less able to hand out the new or new diseases like covert so be set system where certain subset of people in this city are less healthy And less able to things like covert and it's not it's not fair frankly But it's not only just the disease itself even if you take into account the different ways than wiping people and black people live in the city of saint louis and the different ways whites and blacks live in saint louis are clearly shown through. The sacrifices people have had to make in order to stay employed. During this time. i've been working from home. I have a nice home to it. I'm able to do my job through a computer. And i've been able to keep myself safe. I'm not a frontline worker. I'm not essential worker. I'm able to keep myself safe. So many people aren't and when you even considering Ferry there there's also another spare those people that are staying home if you're staying home in a house where your neighborhood is surrounded by illegal dumping bacon properties where your home has led or mold or what have you in. That's where you're staying.

And DAVINA tells us up marrying a or like a hundred percent team Chris Shell and that's fine by I have met Justin before and he was nothing but warm and kind to me. He was a gentleman. I use jacket I hung up abroad him drink so like whether you didn't expect them to file that day Barron hops. You can say you didn't expect that and it's not believable but you probably knew that things weren't going well. Okay. Cure someone Israel this just like I understand what she's saying like were probably worse than she was leading off bud like also. For Right now we just support her. So Matt, you're being so vile goop pose awkwardly over a log in a like crazy little girls lay stress for instagram. Okay. So a man's is like, well, she feels the ameliorated. Why would she feel humiliated and heather goes because it's out there her husband divorced you that's embarrassing I mean, could you imagine being in a wedding amend marriage that fails? That's awful that won't happen with me and talk at all at all I mean, could you imagine everyone's out there texting you and messaging you on social media? It's like. That sounds really good actually. I realize bucking famous now. Thanks for divorcing me Liz there. She doesn't even have a Kaban to go back to like thoughts embarrassing like I got an a does like It should be embarrassing for him Chris like well, I just feel like Justin as a stable predictable guy I mean listen he was on a TV show and he showed up every single week on TV. Like, he like took care of his abs and he still has his ads after like twenty years like that's like the definition of good man. Okay. So so I'm GonNa Party and Mike even when Chris Shell wasn't talking to me like he wasn't talking, she wasn't talking to me Davina but like she was like, no, don't talk to them and he's still came over to us and was very nice and warm and endearing Manson's like that doesn't sound like a highly supportive i. that's what my thought was I was like he went out of his way to still talk to you even they'll crucial said, don't talk to them. I was like what an asshole that's such A. Move you know. and to me like well, the little that we know of him has been very positive like she used to have frost tips in the two thousands and the two thousands in a few weeks ago. That's great like he's a great guy. He's a great guy and sent him many letters informing him that too. And a memphis like, yeah. asked somebody not to speak to my enemies and then they go out of their way whether deck. And so she's like you guys we're not talking about Justin. There is no justin right now and Christine like you know. I just think that there's like two sides to every story and maybe they were just having problems for a long time and maybe he's just like had enough of that. You know I mean you never know yeah. You never know what happens behind closed cabins is not the right use of cabins say that right? So He has to have Assad the story. an mirrors like I don't know why did we not getting involved if she hasn't even met Justin, which is funny because Venus said that she had and a man's like well, she's a friend and the judgment call is team Chris Shell team Chris Shell. Oh, they do have a cool water slide. I mean it looks pretty fucking fancy to me but I guess everything really looks fancy to listen if they WANNA if they wanna be our sponsor and want to sponsor a trip for us from to Atlantis. With that, I'm just saying you know one thing I love being in a swimsuit. Give us a call. I love traveling during a pandemic. I'm into it. Yeah. Now, definitely, the time to get a deal at the I don't know why I'm during this stand about fantasy I really have no skin in the game and no one was even art making argument that it's like the height of luxury just like. I just listen if we can't make twenty minute show an hour and a half long three we're not doing our jobs I just felt like taking a stand about that. Atlantis may not be quite as luxurious as as they think and I have nothing to back that up. Okay. So Jason's like girls, girls gather all the couches listen you guys all know the situation with panel headed fat. Now. I don't like I. Don't like it. Was it was it like make up your mind? So they had to sell that house immediately because you know concere service and all of that, and we sold three hours we have three offers in the first forty eight hours and I got three point six, spot, million escrow and. I'd have to do it by today's standards. Yeah. He's like, yeah I have to bring it up to today's design standards unlike you have Gilda radner hair don't talk about. Today's designs they look like, Paula poundstone was. For a cable ace award. A He's probably a very nice person I'm just. because. He's person who looked at the at the bucket Zillow of this house with all the Pixel. Ninety pictures. It's hideous. There's no, there's no disguising this. Stupid. You know went to rip it apart on national TV he's. He's not nice so that then you hear this song extras, can you feel it shake shake? Gone I, keep it going through the feeling breaks and that's just a man's face timing from like a coffee shop. Music. So she's talking to breaker. And then Patrick shows up and there being there big price dinner you know where they talk about their deal. Putting. One foot in front of another as a whole separate challenges, knits is an end. So then they her and she's like, oh. My God I almost flashed you. I must flash you Shawna's like, yes. Did you do that to Justin? Did you ever do that just Justin I think that might have helped so So then we have a new song this basically about Mary's feet. You're going left I'm going graduate. Mary's dislike. Mary's like so I'm on a new listing here. It's in the Beverly Hills, flatlands. They didn't trust me with anything beyond flatlands on account of my walking issues. So I'm here is not like normal place, but it's your on Alpine drive and and. I'm just basically creating intermodal from area. She walks into the door because actually all we're seeing is The song trixie going like you can't slow me down watch me now and was like Mary opening a door like. Faces her greatest challenge. You can't slow me. Ding Dong. So she goes to answer and it's all of Mary's client in a black TURTLENECK and long hair. Oh, fuck off with these guys walking. Around la with their black turtlenecks and their their blazers. Kylo Ren meets Richard Lewis right like he. was like the most ridiculous. Or Adam driver I should say that's that's a better reference. But yes, actually, yes like balch playing Adam driver. With some Richard Lewis. Also, he is a great sneak preview of what my quarantine hair will look like soon, enough like give it another month and I'm GonNa have Oliver here looks like a poof up here and then like a triangle down here. Voyeur is kind of ridiculous the houses ridiculous. It's ridiculous and listen. I don't know who signed to be on the house or Oliver. They're all stupid I'm on married on T. Mary for sure and that's why because he is stupid the house stupid. You would think they would they were probably judging each other. And he goes out to the backyard and there's like this pool that's like shape i. think it was like a squirrel or something like that. But he's like that is the weirdest shape pool. And vinas like Oh, well, like it's nice that you like invite her because unlike what I through with Mary like I mean that would have been nice to know I guess Davina. That's what this whole scene is about. Okay, I mean. Every two seconds. For example, time I wasn't invited to that aid that was hard. Yeah and so Christine's like, yeah I think that like. WanNa go out and like be with friends like dance and drink and have like a fucking stake, and then like a cocktail shrimp. Round something that reminds her of her greatest failure in life like why wouldn't you come to my wedding? Of course you would. Mother's like I. Don't know what I would do like. I'd probably want to spend time with family until the media goes away in my cabin which Tareq Bob What's amazing thankfully, Target IRA forever couple and double thankfully even if we weren't I, do have that mountain cabin where I can stay away from the media, which will be definitely banging on my door because everyone cares about me and talk. Yes and speaking of I'm worried about little heather now I know, I gather I, do like her heather. Christina just dumped aunt from Christine only coast. And that means that Tarek is GONNA be like. Christine is available again, and he's got is fake Christina yet as he can go back to Real Christina. I mean, they are engaged like new Christina's engaged at Tarek. But I I I thought to, which is like This could be bad for heather she's going to have to. Be. Really. Bad for heaven who she better put in more time with nine year old really make sure that kid goes the bat for her otherwise. Yeah. You better better cement that best friendship ma'am. So yeah she's like I spent time with my family to other media goes away and Christine's like Oh. Yeah. She's so famous climates are all over her yeah. Like. Oscars probably on hold Tolsey COMBOS. "New Jersey and seven games to win that cop in that year. You guys had lost the devils. I remember. You told me that that was one of the toughest ends of season you ever had because you thought if you you guys beat the devils you were going to win the Stanley Cup. Yeah I do remember that. Actually Team was Pretty Good Group of players And we seem to have this thing. We couldn't beat the devils for whatever reason And we really believed that you're if we do not series we're GonNa win the Stanley Cup men. For whatever reason the devil just had our number we just couldn't get past them and it was. It was a hard hard fought series every time we played them any other went six or seven games and the two times a point but I think that was the year we went. Seven Games wasn't wasn't yeah. They'd seven game seven. We lost in Game Seven Jersey but And we had the opportunity to win game. Six at only lost. Two one would've won the series but his we won game five I think. calculates scored with like thirty seconds left to win game five in Jersey three two series series which was kind of crazy. We were coming home thinking we'd wanted already out of all those people teams that you're on and you mentioned like listen. It's tough to get out of the building. There's forty five minutes to get out of the driveway and everywhere you go every restaurant every grocery store every jogging. You're getting questions and when you're getting you know there's a barrage of of of requests and information about you this out there Who Do you think out of all of your teammates was treated the worst? Like the look that you said you know what what they're saying about. This guy is in fair. I know this guy. And he's not being treated right while I think the fans fans of Toronto find one or two guys in the course of time and his tough right gives probably Brian McKay would probably be come. The mind He played thirty two three three minutes. A game him cabriolet together each day each and every game like. I'm sure that they love to have a defenseman Brian on the team. You know he's he's easy was just a minute eatery shoot. He could fight. He was smart individual Any and you know. He's one of our great leaders on our team that we had at that time. So yeah you got a little bit of the brunt of some of the fan stuff You know he's always pick a defenseman by the way. I historically always a defense. uh-huh wingers can hide tougher defensive at the height on the UH swingers. We can get away with a lot of stuff to the defense good and for sure but Yeah I don't know for whatever reason from the time of the Larry Murphy days to rate on through. They've always seem to find you. Know One of those guys On defense to uh-huh maybe pick on a little bit but Gosh I I really found Brian to be a outstanding defensive for this Organization for a long period of time you know one of the great moments at at the Air Canada Centre now Scotiabank Arena was your return and that ovation. I think anyone that saw it. I will always remember it. Anyone that was there. Air Probably can still remember the goosebumps. was that like for Darcy Tucker Yeah that was listening to. I think I cried the whole national anthem. I couldn't pick like my hat up the tears running down my face because my wife and my two older children came to Toronto. It was Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and they came to have Thanksgiving with my mother-in-law brother-in-law so they came to the game that night. And I kinda see them out of the corner of my eye where they they were sitting in the stands and not tears. Roll face it. I think when you're Here as long as I was here as a Toronto Maple Leaf kind of. I think think I left a piece of me here when I left to go to Colorado to begin with and then to come back and I didn't play my first year. Back here We played in Toronto that year and then to come back my second year It was emotional. wasn't easy and It was a hard time but then they did. The the funny thing is they did attribute on the Jumbotron and then I scored. I think you've got an assistant next shift and I think scored the shift after after that and I started the game so I heard right after that burkey put a stop to few of the things that went on on the jumbotron I think they put it was like a two minute lake clip of me just running over people scoring goals and I went crazy and then you know I got kind of fed off the emotion of dot and and we ended up winning game four one so I don't think there's many those attributes After that I think Matt Scott One when he came back and maybe Thomas but I think there is a period of time there where they didn't actually do them so I put a stop to that for a while. Anyway so your kids ever like Youtube your highlights or anything like that Probably in private they do and then they go. Wow that's crazy bugger was but I mean yeah I think they do you think sometimes from time to Time I. My older boy plays Tier Two here in Ontario. And I'm sure youtube it from time to time because I tell him he's got to be a little bit more physical youtube my hits but I think they do from time to time. Yeah you know the last one for me Darcy is I'm not surprised that you're Erin. This Scotiabank role and the reason is that like you know we joke. When you were a player you always said yes if the media had talked to you to the point where some of your teammates would kid about got it but you always said yes and You know it's one of the things I say like you know. I know some people have seen you out at the Scotiabank events and They they talk about how approachable you are and I said that is the one thing about Darcy Tucker whatever he felt or whatever he felt felt towards reporters or anything. You always said yes whether it was media whether it was fans whether it was You know we're at a charity event. The family feud viewed for Maple sports entertainment where you cheated during the game by looking up answers on your smartphone. The fact is you never said no to a request quest. I think that's pretty amazing. Yeah I think listen I. I've always been the someone who didn't mind being in the spotlight it did. It didn't bother it didn't make me feel Shire I wasn't one of those guys that would back away from any of that And I've learned a lot of life lessons through hockey And then my biggest life lessons have been probably taught by Lanny Lanny. He's One of the most humble genuine approachable individuals visuals. That I've ever been around and he's taught me a lot about how to interact with people. It's it's sometimes. It's not the hockey player. They they want to know more about vote. What you are as a person and and those sorts of things about your own kids your own family? So it's that moment or that two or three seconds or maybe even just a handshake That somebody somebody you can leave them with a lifetime of memories. Oh I met or this is where I was when I met him. It's I think it's important and I think it's part of What makes hockey hockey players? So special is I haven't met very many hockey players. That aren't you know genuine people and just down to Earth guys you know for the longest time and then we'll close on this one nursing and we thank you for your time today. Look forward to Bush Hockey Day in Canada for the longest time in your life when people ask who are you you would say. I'm a hockey player. Now that you're in your second life life when people ask who you are. What do you say I think I frame it two ways? I'm a father family man and I'm a Scotiabank teammate. Because we do so much across candidate with Scotiabank and and meeting people and individuals were touching so many different Generations of kids that are going to last a lifetime at hockey and and to get that opportunity to do that. I feel very fortunate. I actually do and to spend time with the people that I get to spend time with Lanny and Cassie and and you know Austin Matthews is a teammate of ours to Scotiabank and PK and we get these opportunities to spend time with generations of kids and show them what hockey's about I'm I'm I'm pretty proud of that hero. Fives are going to draft beer. More pressure on the kids are more pressure on the coach. I got no pressure. I don't just stand there and blow the whistle man. I don't have to to do the skating. So there's no pressure on me You know as a dad you always feel like You'RE GONNA try to help your Children do the best they can in life and Yep I don't worry necessarily about them playing hockey I I worry more about.

"They did something really good Highlight reels things. We really as coaches tried to break it down to small segments of plays at happened that led up to the goal. Not just a goal Because for the guys on the ice with you and they had to do something good for you to score a goal may had to be in the right position or had to make a great eight pass or maybe they blocked a shot. The other end that led to your chance on that. I think. Sometimes it's just too much of the instant gratification as opposed to you know. Maybe there's other things that happened before that did you can show the kids that maybe led up to that play Making a goal. There was one thing you said there that really concerned me in that so that you left the TV during the intermissions. I hope that's not the case absolutely. Watch your intermission. The most important part of my my watching trust me. Ah I do. This is very important here. I needed. I needed that self. I can fully understand that. Yes I do watch The intermissions more now than I did when I was a kid okay. I just want to make sure that was. I going to figure out what's going on around the league. I don't have the insights that you have so I figure out what's going on a lot more than I do but I remember there was one time I did Leave trip and the game was in Calgary and I didn't realize it but I sat down in the stands for trump morning skate in your family was there and you know Darcy e. Oh you're young guy grew up in castor Alberta the odds were against somebody from there making the NHL. When when you were a kid what did you think you were going to do with your life? Gosh got a great question. Elliot I as a kid I thought. NHL Hockey was a movie to be honest with you. I didn't take it was real until I got the opportunity to go to my first. NHL Game and I tell Lenny this all the time I met Lanny And was able to actually touch them so for me as it went from. He's just a movie star to he's an actual person that plays hockey so it Kinda give me that. I goes nine or ten years old at the time and it Kinda give me. That thought that I can do this I. He's from close to where I grew up and He's from Hannah about twenty five minutes from where I grew up. Yep so I got that feeling like I could actually do it And I believe that moment time and I was gonNA play in the national hockey but I you know I grew up watching my dad senior. Men's ends hockey me. I sat in the penalty box. Not The penalty box but timekeepers box and I listen to you know the guys at had jobs every day point senior. Men's hockey at night going at it or yelling at each other in the penalty box. They take away softness is just like NHL. Anyway I'm I'm I'm seeing. I'm seeing firsthand best hockey in the world but it was just my dad senior. Men's Guys out there but you know I learned a lot from being around my family. My family was you know a huge part of my life and that's how I live my life now is That's why I want to be on the bench with my both. My boys got to coach my older guy for a couple years after I retired and Getting the opportunity to coach Kane and be around him rate from time starter airplane hockey Has Been Pretty special for me. So and family's been a big part of my life. My parents are are the big reason why I am who I am today. When was the the first moment because your path wasn't easy? When was the first moment that you said yourself as an NHL or holy smokes? I'm GonNa Stick Dick. How yeah that's Well I had a great belief in myself I did like. I think I had to In order to be in. NHL From the past. That I had coming from a small community so add great belief that I was going to be there. I guess it would have been We're planning in San Jose and and Mark Bureau and Saku Koivu blowtorch. The knee ligaments that night in a game and I was a healthy scratch for the first time in my career that night and I was like like wow I can't send me back down now. I get after place so that was kind of moment where I went. Wow I think I think I got it now because it might contract turned into a one way deal and the two way part of it went away after forty games so I had played thirty nine and I'd been a healthy scratch. I was thinking to myself going to send me down. I didn't know what was going to happen. But they both got hurt in that night and the rest is history but even before that I can remember watching. You played junior hockey and you. He played on that Blazers team. And that line with Shane tone drama gala and yourself is probably one of the greatest lines not just of that era era in the history of junior hockey darcy. Yeah like you guys just played puck on a string with everybody and said there are three guys that are going to be stars in the NHL. All all three of them. Yeah it's one thing to get to a certain level and then it's another to dominate and that line dominated. What did that feel like? What was that like for you? Playing Blazers team yeah. It was a scary scary group of players that we had not just that line. But we had You know defense it was really good. Nolan Baumgartner Jason Strudwick Bride Luke Oh Jason Holland All guys that had you know careers played NANTEUIL A- at one point or another so we had a pretty good defense And then blaming Jerome and Shane was look to captains played and The National Hockey League over. I think both of them played over. Twelve hundred games In their career great leaders great individuals The the story of how Shannon I got to callups is kind of crazy at a guy by the name of Tim Arnold Took a you know you have those big hand held video Jio cameras Back then it's not like a little phones at the now came to our small rank and chain and our plan on the same team For a couple of games that you're you kind of play together are in in certain events in guy took Tim took the video of Shannon. I send it to the cameras. Blazers and they Put Us both under protected less at the time and and the rest is kind of history Neither of us even knew what was going on I went ahead of Shane and played The year before and then Shane Fall with me. The year after so Ended up being a pretty good deal to have on your team with two memorial cups for sure. Did you know we're Kamloops was on a map like when they called you. The the only reason I knew where countless was on a map was because we went to the Kamloops International Bantam tournament the year before and We played in the tournament. There and So Oh yeah I knew where it was only because of that otherwise no one had a clue. When did hockey start to feel like job or did it ever feel like a job I would imagine I just some points that must my last year my last year was in Colorado and have these kind of moments in your career where you kind of know? It's it's almost over it's there it's time to pack it in. I was driving the airport a couple times a year and my older boy was starting to play hockey and You Know Joe. SAKIC had retired retired a year before and he was coaching helping coach. The team and I was missing those moments. I was so it's feeling like do I really want to the always becoming a fourth line. Guy Wasn't playing that much more of kind of a mentor for O'Reilly Duchenne As opposed to an actual hockey player anymore so I kind of felt like that was a time when it was becoming more of a hassle to get yourself up for a game I was spending more time at the rink any treatments and I was actually playing the game. So that's when if you kind of feel like Oh man this job man. This is hard. This is getting really to the point where you know. It's time to pack it in. You know as a member of the media the thing I learned about you and not long after you go try like I really enjoyed the interactions with fiery. No no I they were fiery I knew you that if I asked you a question I was getting an honest answer whether I liked it or not. I realized very quickly that you watched and read almost everything that it was said about. You and I wondered like when you were in Toronto and you come here and it's a big trade and I wondered how you handled all that thirsty because I couldn't imagine being a maple leaf and watching and reading everything that said about you. Well I say this to the young guys Now now a little bit the fact that Beena Toronto Maple Leaf is all encompassing for me. I think you've got to enjoy every aspect of it too. Good bad All of it. It's what I tried to do I loved being a Toronto Maple Leaf. I love playing in the city of Toronto You get everything here. You get the grocery store questions you get the you know the the newspaper articles you get the highs you get the lows You know you're you're recognized everywhere you go in the city and there's something to be said about that but I think as a player you gotta you gotta be able to enjoy all of it and not get so wrapped up in Not Enjoying it and Sometimes I got fiery and that was my personality but I'd rather be that way then the guy that was hiding in the back and not talking about it. I'd rather be talking about it. Then you know when they stopped talking to you. That's a problem. Well there. There's two Jeff. There's two interactions with Darcy. That I I remember the most and he'll remember one. I don't know if you'll remember the other but the one and I went back actually not long after rewatch it because I didn't phrase it very well but it was in the plastic installed awas and who hit you on the boards Alfredsson Yuck and they scored the winner right later. Yup and the way I reported it after the game there were people in Joe. Bowen was one guy who really came after me. He said you made it sound like Tucker deserve to be crushed in the ACC and bringing Elliott Friedman and then the question I wanna ask you. Eliot is what the reaction was like at the time. The Air Canada the center. You're there get in there what happened. It was pretty shocked. I think a lot of people were very surprised to see what happened. And you know what the initial feeling is down here. Steve is that it's a reputation. Mutation call because of the number on the back of the player involved Darcy. Tucker that the call was not made. Initially you'll have to remember. There's two goals tonight. Were issues. Work concerning turning talker and his own zone on the I read and one he was taken out of the play by Shawn mceachern and that allowed US situation create where red and had an open shot at one.

"How much of the conversation in Saint Louis on the weekend end was about the future of women's hockey? It was quite a bit like you heard Ron and cassie talk about it Ron talked about it with the Commissioner. Can I have the legal question. which would be with the NHL fearful of some kind of antitrust? Obviously I shouldn't have another league. I don't WanNa get into a legal discussion. There are a whole host of issues before you start a league any sport with any gender that you would have focused on going there now. We don't have enough time at. I don't thinking in terms of the discussion. We're having it's really interesting. It's got a little testy reminded me a little old so I kind of liked it. It was good to see that sparring back. I think that's good to to watch the Iran and Gary Spar against each other. A little bit. We talked about this Adrian Right. who asked the question tonight as the question on the podcast a couple of weeks ago? I don't think anything has changed. Locked the N.. WHOL was unhappy with some things that were said? They released a statement the other day I think that just outlines the land mines that are still there And I think a lot of the general public looks excited like okay. NHL Step up and give us a league. I think we all feel that way. By the more you dig into into the story the more you realize the complex and deep rooted feelings and how difficult that makes it and The divisions visions between the players on both sides are very deep. And I don't know if those are easily bridged the city of Saint Louis and the blues as an organization As hosts of the All star weekend I mean I was on the other side of the magic eyeball watching this thing off. Great Fridge I. It really died out when the central division loss to the Pacific like. I don't know if you can fix these kinds of things somehow abide that was. We're kind of lost it a bit. The seeds worn is full for the championship game. But the FA- I mean the Saint Louis loves their hockey. It was great I think in the people were really liaise with the they love seeing the alumni. Come out I was really happy. Brett Hull did not fall off the platform. Think of Oh do not fall. I was listen. I was happy to see Bernie Fredrika what they're feeding Alex Patricia McKenna's Keith Chuck It was it was fantastic. It really was I mean to me the wildest all star weekend I've been to I think national was up there. I think Montreal was really good. That was the cavalier mania two. Yes that was that weekend was crazy but it's Montreal you and they and they voiced the four Canadians there but you know. Recently I think national was the one that really stood out to me. St Louis has fans. They were great. They were really into it. And I'll tell you I know. They lost in Vancouver. And they won the other night and Calgary in a shootout at at Saint. Louis team is really good. Let's get. They think they have a shot to win it again. I was GONNA say and could they be getting even better now with the news at Vladimir Tarasenko. Oh maybe out a little bit longer freeing up some room for Doug Armstrong to do some so. I've told this story before but when Alex Stein was injured several a years ago I think it was the year after Patrick Kane and I would have done. Exactly what the Blackhawks did I would totally hit him on L.. Tr got out and my guy say magic one of the well. Patrick Kane is healthy pulling out of his sleeve I totally holy would have done the same thing if it was me and I am King Curtain so the next year that happened with steen and Doug Armstrong I asked him. Would you do that and he said No. I I I believe if a guy is ready to play you put him in. Tarasenko was begun to skate. I don't think he's anywhere. Close that I to me is one of the biggest decisions remaining on this. NHL Season do the Saint Louis. Blues Hold Tarasenko Tarasenko out for the rest of the regular season. And because I'll say this I believe the blues will try to add but I don't think they will want to subtract. They don't WanNa take anybody off their active roster who's a significant part of what they WANNA do. They want to add it to their team. Not Make it go sideways. Where well I think crowder's and obvious one but I will tell you forwards or Lords? I think it's forwards top six forward at the All star weekend. I had a couple of guys tell me players. They don't think Kreider wants to be traded. Now they think he prefers to stay as a ranger now that may be out of his hands of the Rangers. Get a good offer but I do think the Rangers are going to pitch and I think as I wrote if if they come in five years somewhere are just below seven between six and a half and seven they wonder what Kreider is GonNa WanNa do. They think he really likes being a ranger. It's out of his hands right. If the Rangers get a great offer offer they take it and maybe they try to bring them back in the summer but I think the blues are going to want to try to do something and I think other teams are wondering leg lake is is one. GM said to me if I was Doug Armstrong. I wouldn't have the same scruples. I head back thousand sixty. I mean. How often often the chance to win twice never mind once Anything more with Alex portraying jlo passes Brian Sutter For third all time time in assists by Saint Louis blue anything more there. I mean. He's just chasing Holland for this point for assists. Let's get a shot. The pass them first of all. I don't get the sense. There's any talks going on but the thing I think about portraying joe is I think he's mature her like I think he's looking at this right now like the way he's playing you don't get the sense. He's screwed up by what's happening. He's just like focused. This is what I'm worried. Read a boat at the end of the day. I have to feel that. Somehow it's going to work out but it's GonNa Work Workout at eight times eight and a half for Saint Louis. I could see maybe him wanting more I could see his his agents wanting more he could definitely probably get more an AV at least but I think what the blues are gambling is does he wanNA relieve Saint Louis to me that guy's blue so we had Darren Pang hockey central on Tuesday. Yup and we are talking talking about this and Darren Pang talking. I believe the exact quote was something along the lines of you know if he ends up with the Saint Louis Blues the rest of his career He gets statue in front and he'll go down as the high scoring defense in of all time and I think you know his legacy will be right there that could be the legacy. This guy carves for himself in Saint. Louis you know worth to you you know. Here's I like when you request request when you look back at. What is that worth to you to have that outside marina four ever for me? I'm talking about myself when I retire whenever that is maybe next week. If you have your way. What's his retirement you speak? I'M GONNA be a ghost. I'm going to be a rumor. But there's there's there's a body audio work in a legacy to leave behind. I personally don't believe in legacies hanging but athletes do. Yeah yeah athletes who you may not personally but you know it drives drives these guys and you know what they're all about and you know where they want to be in the pecking. Order of this game they've grown up adoring see I portray Angelo as much as other people do. He doesn't strike me as a guy that would really care if there was a statue. I mean I might be totally wrong. But here's the thing. This is the way I look at it. If the Saint Louis Blues believed that Alex Pa- transload deserves a statue. That shouldn't change if he leaves them in Free Agency. That's my opinion if his body of work deserves a statue because he captained the first Saint Louis team to win a Stanley Cup. Ever if he chooses to go somewhere else the summer that shouldn't change yes it might be hard feelings. Yes he may go play somewhere else but you know what I'm a guy who believes the Toronto Raptors should retire Kawhi Leonard Number. Kyle lowry I Leonard. Second and I don't care that Coli Leonard played only one year in Toronto To me if you do if you leave something special. That's all that matters. And if it's about the statue Should be getting it already. I agree with you because I just didn't Donovan with Eric. Lindros for you can play this past weekend with Brian Burke and Paul coffey. Oh Yeah how was that. Oh so much fun. It was a great time. We had a ball great stories. Some of them are even true. Wonderful that the point that I've always made about Eric Lindros because when we look at history look at Hall of fame we always focus on longevity. I look at peak peak performance. How long were you the best or were you ever the best? And if so even if it's only for one year or two years or three years if you can say that you were the absolute best in hockey for one year two years. Whatever it is you go to the hall of fame for me even if careers five years long you were the best day on you know hard? It is to get to the top look at Eric Address as a peak not the entire career but does a peak performer. It was Eric Lindros and the rest of the lieque. There was no one like him. How many years was like that two or three? No Oh I think it was more than the no like the ultimate the ultimate peak performer. See I forget Yager was in the heights. Yes I I understand that but to me he he had a longer stretch than two or three years. That made him a hall of Famer. Maybe two or three. He was the bashed in the league. But Overall Hall of Famer it was much longer than that best in the world. And the thing Eric Lindros through there was no one like him before. And it's interesting one of the questions we took from the audience Someone asked Who would you compare yourself to and Paul? COFFEY had a couple of you know really good skating defensively if you compare himself to in the game right now and even even before Eric could answer burkey said well Bobrov. You're a unicorn like there's nobody like honesty. There's nobody nobody you can compare Eric. Lindros to there are elements. But there's no one you can point to and say he's like Lindros Nobody Buddy and he was on top for s when you look at the total body of work. There's only a scant few years. He was on top but he was on top like lapping the feel he was dynamite. For that you get in and you earn yourself the hall of fame nod one final thing on St Louis here and we'll get the Darcy Tucker interview that game against Calgary. Some.

"A great call Martin. Berkshire be invited next year. Did you look at that a little bit sideways. When it happened like doesn't did you see Brett Sutter's tweet no shoot so bread sutter replied to the H. l.? Tweet we have a new record. And he says quote I soaked one right between the nipples this year. I had a heart attack. Not One bit surprised by this. Marty has a Canon. Yes I should be one hundred percent invited. Yeah but all those specialists and you mentioned a second ago. Oh yes that guy should be there. Even though these aren't the guys that you might expect to see at an all star game they do belong to all star. Competition is the interesting. I think part of a skills competition the players that are involved or the results. It's the spectacle yes in one of the things the Meyer talks about when I spoke to him is does everybody need to participate for example. NBA All Star weekend or Major League Baseball All Star Week or whatever it is like not. Everybody participates in the homerun competition. Not Everybody participates in the three pointer dunk competitions. NBA bring specialists. You don't have to put everybody there. You know what you can do is you can have players involved in other things just is being there kissing babies as I like to say but I also like the fact that Meyer mentioned that they're gonNa talk with some players about what works and what doesn't like he said. Patrick Kane told them for the accuracy bring back the Styrofoam. Oh I told this that sound that. That makes that little pop. Those things go off Oh Yeah give me that day now. I know it's messy is a long stick explodes so great and and I think it's always like you you give your players a better chance to feel better about it. If they feel like they're invested in it. How would a pros vs joes theme they do however a pros vs Joes in this way and maybe only for the hardest shot and this is some of the? NHL Can do with a sponsor throughout the year. So you think you can beat Shea Weber so you think you can shoot harder Chara because a lot of menzies guys out there that can wrap it not great players but they can you know. Oh you. Men's league guys yeah. I had an injury or the coach was bad. That's why I'm not in the NHL. I know you're out there. Yeah this is like the NHL hardest shot competition version. Asian of bells making the cut. I got no problem with.
