Ida Lashes Northeast With Tornadoes and Severe Flooding

"As we mentioned remnants of hurricane ida have been spawning heavy rain tornadoes and life. Threatening conditions in the mid atlantic northeast. A tornado warning was even posted here in new york city. Major highways are flooded with cars and buses trap and the subways are shutting down in what the national weather service says is the city's first ever flash flood emergency. Several large tornadoes were reported north of philadelphia and in south jersey. As we mentioned new jersey's governor phil murphy has just declared a state of emergency. Some neighborhoods had to be evacuated cars and buses there were stranded in floodwaters and now thousands in the region are without power earlier this afternoon. What twister roared through. Parts of annapolis maryland pulling down trees and power poles and in louisiana. Where this same storm system tore apart the state's power grid. Some low lying communities remain largely underwater. Many hospitals in the state are still running on generators and again today. The governor warned evacuated residents knocked comeback yet. The water system is really poor. Electricity is non-existent. Communications actually started getting a little bit better today. We have not figured out the fuel situation. Don't come back before the paris tells you that they are ready to receive you because you're just going to create another demand on a system that can't withstand the demand that currently has for more. We welcome to the broadcast joe. Valenti is the emergency management director for jefferson parish louisiana. Now take a look at this map. Jefferson parish stretches from new orleans the new orleans shoreline with lake pontchartrain. All the way down to grand isle in the gulf joe. Thank you for being with us. How are you faring. And how are the people in jefferson parish tonight. Well i mean. District type of circumstances are not really new to us but doesn't been difficult when he completely lost the grid one hundred percent of the power. So it's made it very difficult process to affect any rescues

John Alite, the Mob's Enforcer

"The year was nineteen ninety. Carol alight was terrified the security alarms at their South Jersey home bled while the family rottweilers barked for Roche. Ously worse yet. She swore she could see armed men hiding in the woods from the window. She called her husband. John in a panic. Twenty eight year old. John Alight the right hand man of John Gotti. Junior was away from the house when he received the call without so much as a second thought. He ditched his friends and hopped into his corvette. As a lights raced home. He wanted which of his many enemies could be off to him that night. The most likely seemed Tommy. Karate patera earlier that year karate had killed one of a lights friends over a twenty thousand dollar dispute. Rumor around town was that a light was next on his list when I got home. He snuck in from the back and grabbed a revolver and an Uzi submachine gun. He slipped into the dark woods and lurked toward the men waiting to ambush him instead. A light took them by surprise unloading the Uzi like an eighties. Action Star and after a brief firefight. The attackers fled. It was too dark to see that night but the next morning a light. Check the woods to see if anyone had been killed though. He didn't find any bodies he did. See plenty of blood. He knew a message had been sent a few days later a lights boss. John Gotti called a light to a sit down with Tommy Karate. Godley declared that their feud was over. No more fighting when the meeting finished on the two men had its world cars. A light turned and said to Tomi. Nothing settled I'm still GONNA kill Ya.

Battle of The Brews Live from The Landmark In Glassboro

"The reason why we're here today is that we have a battle the bruise news and we've invited her kyle's invited us to be here and we also have the people from three threes eighty sand. Taco brewing company and ax narrow now and we're going to have a beer off. I guess what we're having more than one. I assume the battle of the beer's battle the beer so we're going to anybody. WHO's trying to beers out there. We're going to see which ones are favor one at two o'clock. I think we're GONNA it will cub cut the two o'clock. You know there's no hard times here not in fact. We're currently forty five minutes later than we thought we were wrong. Jersey time. It's a Sunday. What do you expect. It's a I think it's probably one of the last Sunday's before football so a before Labor Day yeah well. That's true. That's when you know Ostlund. Where most of us live we get our city back. We get our city back but that's okay doc kyle. This is a pretty interesting idea that you had here so tell me a little bit about marketing Americana and their affiliation with craft craft glass bro landmark been here forever. It's really went through a lot of changes since its inception but you know the crab craft beer scene really flew up probably ten years ago and I think that the concept here's all along with that we went from having hope nope twelve fear of domestic threats twenty total realize that there's a huge demand here and we expanded that to be forty draft beers and to have a strong focus towards the area what South Jersey Breweries Tristate Breweries Philadelphia's obviously twenty five minutes away feels local to me. US Asfaw lived there as well so very local but that's really been our been a big part of that. We are going to be a beer. I lace harmonies float around beard. You know we want you to have some beers control the food you know spirits. They have a place here as well but you know I think that the heart of what our concept is is it is about the beer. It's nice to see because one of the things that's happened in the craft beer landscape is that you guys were early adopters this obviously this is. How many years is this for the festival. This is the seventh year so there was kind of a whole here for a long time with people that would have craft beer and I guess with the Robo Abo- innovation that's happened here. There's been influx but you guys one of the early adopters and do a great job with it. I noticed that you have a good representation from all over the state in Philly here which is nice and you know they do have they do have some big name beards that you know that need to have which were not averse to. We are Bir see not script but it's nice to see somebody as big as you guys. It has such a force here in Gloucester County and surrounding area really adopt the craft and kyle. You have a great list of local beers share. A great tap list of WHO actually decides on which Beers on tap is that you have a committee. I'm not that involved in the beer selection here to give a lot of the credits Nikki Nado who is here today he was the one running around getting all this stuff organized for us he does most the selections dealing with the Reps and the local guys play into his taste buds so a lot of credit on that Mitzi great job nick so when you guys are when you start to craft beer one of the things that is a not an issue but is your servers and I know that I've been here a bunch of times your servers actually know how to describe era so as the director of operations that something you guys put in the plan for your for your locations Yep. It's executed properly. All of our staff has to go through a relatively relatively rigorous training all what we offer terms of not just food spirits opinion beer and being able to actually describe the different styles is pretty very important and being able to lead people in the right direction a lot of a lot of novice beer drinkers are looking for certain flavor and you have to be able to know the list we talk yeah. We talk about this all the time so key tell me what tastes like coors light and then direct them to the Water Fountain then but there is. There's something here for everybody. Craft Beers expanded to such a point nine Clark. Even we have an article coming up or would have been out already on non alcohol beer is that are really making a big splash thing. It's against my religion the not Alcohol Beers but what's Nice is I think the breweries all making something that can get the entry level here drinking and looking your tap. Lets you do have those as well for sure. I as I've gotten older. I've appreciated that Craft Beers evolved with my tastes now. I feel like he used to be. How crazy can we make the sphere top going to beat a drink Takao happy. Can we make it. I think a lot of that now is more. What can we make that people are going to drink a lot of lottery. You know six seven beers used. BP had six arrogant bastard. You wouldn't taste for weeks now now. There's there's enough craft beer out there that they're they're making products. That are fun to try. You can have a much of different things and enjoy your enjoy summer day Zoya Winter Day whatever it is and I appreciate that they're they're bringing it down a little bit but keeping the flavor there that's true I mean I like to see a lot of five five and a half's to have a lot of flavor that you can have five or six out and still mo the lawn in a straight line. It's not going to ruin your day. Hey No long sessional. Beers is the big the big new thing we're seeing a lot of cultures a lot of fully flavored. Ip as that are coming coming up forty five percent founders kind of broke the mold on that with all day. I Ta Nea Ri Billick Seven Breweries just off of that brand we see dogfish coming out with the same thing and all all the major brewers following in suit so just natural evolution. I guess to see ready was trying to make some stuff in fact one of our friends at Tom. Foley just has a low calorie one hundred Ed coury. Ida says that he just came out with and so as the market has evolved. There's not just ten breweries. You have to be able to to bring some frog consumers so I'll glassware beer festival. That's one of the reasons that we here as well so tell us a little bit about what's going on with this year. I know that you have a big qasis on Jersey beer yet this year. I think we're we're getting close to half of the total participants being from Jersey. I think a great weekend when you can do it is to go to a town. Check out the breweries that are there. They'll give you a backbone for your trip. Yes really give you can capture that into the the festival where you're like. Why a never gets a you know all these different places from your down to the tip of Cape May up to the up to the North Jersey side the validation kind of give a good representation while those monthly's emphasis sample what they have to offer. I think that's that's good. That's experienced driving towards is trying to grade their like that impossible. We'll road trip in a day yet and done a good job this year. You have a forty five plus breweries. I believe this year. They're coming last minute adults less well. That's that's the nature of the business and the Nice thing guys do too is it's a great area but tickets really reasonable so you had the VIP package that runs from twelve to five that gives you early initiative. That's one of fifty bucks. I mean that is that is a great price. Fifty dollars for a pours two was too. We're doing according to the ABC and that report is exactly two ounce. You have no more and you're you're able to come in an hour earlier to beat the crowds a little bit. I mean that's a great great. Price for forty bucks even income from one to five last four forty five and still be able to sample a bunch of beers. VIP ticket though that's the one absolutely that's a great deal and a lot of people not take my advice but I always say that he should probably start with the food exactly and they may not with a couple beers. You get the food because 'cause you whenever knows wants to eat. There's GonNa be lines there and get the food. Go the way of good base you know cruise the rest of the day. It's all about the base rallied the beating up Tom Claver Day of an article about eight things to do when you're preparing for a beer festival and that was one of them in that was definitely one of them and there's a bunch more. You can get that on the site. Sap or seen dot com but I feel like the people that come in here that power drink for the first twenty minutes to thirty minutes running around. I think they're day gets shorter. Oh yes I think they're ruining the ruined. All the other beers ability. My mind wasted what he just says a Patriot beer festivals right down the ones you want to try after about ten of Milstar taste better yeah especially with all these people are bringing these gigantic cop toward Beers speaking of yours. WE WANNA try coming up to the stage roses Caraba Callahan of Taco brewing company. Everybody here knows him fund bobby and he brought a some beers here today.

But now they used to if I try to releasing northeast IP that was clear. I would probably think you're off your rocker. Yeah. That's a really nice way to put it. I mean, you said you're active on nj. Let's talk craft beer. They'd be all. How much of a bully mentality can go on weight. Or would you be creating a Central Jersey? I. Just be the people in the imaginary land known as central. Go with it one. Last thing before we start wrapping up Richard had mentioned sours before. Favorite's mother. What's what's your take on sour do like sour sharing? And I'll I'll go to include Goza in sours. Okay. So in that case, there's definitely some showers. So I did a collaboration with dark city burning Asbury this weekend's actually their bursary. We did a what's loosely based off of yacht use so northeast that they kettle soured who absolutely loved it. It had everybody northeast IP, and it had that mouth feel the big fruity citrusy flavours going on wall to same time being tart, I love that favorite. Favorite salary of all time is a cartons monkey chase a weasel. Okay. Which is a what a mobile area Berliner area and just so balanced well-being sours, right? However, some of these over the tops hours, I can't deal with they just wants to pure pucker heartburn going. I get everything. I had one of my favorite and least favorite sours happened in the same company and back the back. I drank cascade sang to our and cascades creek and back to back that was the best one of the best one of the top five and absolutely worse hours. I've ever drank in my life back to back. I believe it. It was like so bizarre did in the Saint company in like, oh my God. And then put the other my mouth, and I'm like, this is the most heart most disgusting. Most vile thing about the dump dumb. I think but as much as I hate sours. I love funk right all Belgian beers can get pretty fun of Belgian funky beers. Yeah. I can do funky Cezanne's farmhouses all day, which is definitely growing that love for a place referendum, which is out in west jersey that sickle real part of the state, right? And Gus it was actually right by the ferry like literally two minutes from the ferry gusto brewing. And coho guests. It's up a little further north in Cape May court house, and you got a lotta good breweries up there too. You have you have Ludlum up that way slack tied up that way as well as bucket brigade up in that area where Kojo is so really a very happening. Brucie's down in Cape May county, which is weird because widows comes on and Cape May county right now. But breweries an antique stores, there's wineries there to really remember the last time we talked about we talked about Hamilton. We had all the guys from Hamilton on. And you had the little town of Hamilton you have three breweries there. They got wineries around there. Then we sit in it had a distillery to their disorder from vinyl is there, really right across from vinyl. So, you know, so that's happening. Cape May county happening county who new beautiful beautiful County Down place to go down to a lot of nice nice towns down there doing well. Doing very well. So in very well. Okay. Now. "South jersey beer scene podcast. Another episode. Follow another episode, south jersey bear seen podcast. One of the hose route tally. I'm going by John tonight. John thought here John here, but I got victory night. Yes. And it is raining again in and we're in the beautiful new tally studios in the same general vicinity, but stated the studio that we have here in tally land here in maple shade. Where once again as we recording podcast, it is raining. Of course, it's got a ring cutlery K. Okay. So So. thank you, rob for having us here. And I want to introduce some of our guests here, and we'll get into some discussions with them as we're going on here. Oh, we got some delicious food. Good here for in trouble. Thank you so much. We got some Turkey Turkey, eggrolls guess Turkey. And they looked Alicia. After thanksgiving leftovers now, no one can eat them until until we say, you can eat them. So I want to introduce our the guests that we have we have Eric Schmil who is president of brew jersey Homebrew club as well. As owner of fermented food beverage and Bruce supply shop, did I get that pretty much gyp episode the shops based in Hammonton New Jersey right by the expressway. So nice to get to. I'm actually phasing out of president here at the end of the year and will actually be the vice president brew jersey for the next year. Twenty nineteen shuffling of our exact port. So that's coming down. We tried doing the shuffling in ocean county home brewers which on the president of when it doesn't work. You know, every time the election. They push me forward and everyone else steps back. So also, we have with us is Mike Geller who is the head brewer at three threes in Hamilton. The union over here. It's sure is absolutely for sure. And we'll talk a little bit Terek and Mike later, and also we have royalty with us here. We have a home brewer extraordinaire Doreen Saunders who did not win just one Homebrew competition, but actually one to Homebrew competitions over the last month. We had a Tri county cereal competition which article just came out on south jersey beer scene with with members of brew jersey as well as Monmouth county Homebrew on ocean county home brewers Dorian won that competition with his pumpkin spice, life, cereal, beer, and just recently. There is a competition that was directed by Eric Ed fermented and with the beer being brewed at three threes. Mike's brewery and Dorian won that competition. Also streak, right? So very very. Thank you. So we'll talk more about those beers about the process and really geek out a little bit on brewing because this is going to be sort of like a home brewing. And and grew and grew episode here. But don't don't disconnect everyone. It's not going to be boring. It's going to be we're going to keep it very exciting. So little bit of news. First off Sierra Nevada is producing a beer to benefit those who have been victimized and by the wildfires in California campfire, the campfire called resilience. So I know there's a lot of breweries here in south jersey, as well as the rest of the state that are that are participating in that. So you know, I know that we had posted an article that death of the FOX, but I know there's a lot of other breweries participating in it. Also, a human village was going to be participate. There is a lot of them. And you know, if there's one thing in especially this time of year this season that are local breweries and businesses. Do it. It really is give back to the community and not only are in a media community here, but really the world community as a whole. So it's always great great to see that. So we may talk a little bit more about that later too. So one thing I want to touch on is most recent episode most recent. Issue of craft beer and brewing magazine, which I know a lot of you who are home brewers out there..

"Last year to some plans we had for relief that we were going to try to do for some brothers sisters, North Carolina, except Carolina this year. Now we have to sit and think about how. How we're going to do it without hurting something else we already planned. It's it's, it's almost going to be like a shell game. What can we do? But who do we have to say no to? And that that is a big hit to local and statewide community involvement issue. And hi, this is this is Vick from south jersey beer scene also president that Yoshi county home brewers. We've had a lot of discussion about how it affects, you know what we do and how it's gonna affect other Homebrew club's also, I know on the community side that this is really going to hamstring you on what you can do with the community, how you can raise funds, raise funds at cetera. Now I know you did an article awhile ago about some of the friction between there, so I know you were if you were intimidating this coming down the pike, it's cetera. Maybe maybe you can touch on that a little bit. Well, actually, kind of kind of glad you're leading into this. So I wrote a. Couple articles on the lower force page about some issues friction. We had. But the way that was solved wasn't through government, interference regulation. But we did is we showed the value to our neighbors. You know, we had to retailers in town. They didn't like the idea birds. They absolutely did not. But what we did is by working with them over and over tourism, attracting traffic for all of us bringing new blood and people into town. I'm not proud to say that we partner with those retailers and that friction is in the past, and that's really the success story that this completely stopover. So here you had what might have been the poster child for resisting brewery tap room's in the activities. Partnering with Burris within eighteen months of that friction partnering with breweries to not only better their own business and and better our entire community and bring people in. Let's face it. When somebody comes to town, they're going the one. Oh, hey, let's check out the brewery. And then I'm gonna go shop at this store and then I'm gonna go over here for dinner and cocktails shawna's everybody amazing where this one you're talking about made a big old stink and just totally went crazy on south jersey and and now modem ahold, he's actually figured it out and he's working with you guys now and he actually bettered his business and and I just wish that the rest of the guys would know that as well as the ABC and it can happen. Yeah. I mean, that's the key thing. And that's been one of my biggest messages. Smart retailers will get it smart retailers. We'll see crashed beers great up. So we're profitable. Him for smart retailers and our culture in the culture we develop in our tap room's that we develop it with our presences only serves the benefit them at a greater level. And you know what, even if it's somebody that I may have disagreed with in the past, they're smart enough. They get it and now glad to call them a business partner. Hey, I got Richard here from. He's also fear your planet, and he's our producer and I think that he has a, I'm sure, very, very deep question for you. Do I just I, I'm sure. I'm sure there's obviously good and bad things on both sides of this decision, but a lot of it just to me out a little bit only here now. Verizon can hear me now. Oh, I'm sorry. So. It just feels somewhat political just because the way they worded some very silly things like they actually wrote the words in no menus, but they didn't ban smartphones or the internet. So people could still sit on their phones and look at food orders..

"Welcome. You are listening to the south jersey beer scene podcast. Leaving everyone, south jersey beer scene, rob tally John cashew, what up yo? I didn't think you're going to answer. That's my jank stir voice here in the gangsta town of beach haven. I was just going to say we're not in the confines of the tally studio, so I don't really know what to do out of my element. Yeah. Vick finally talked me into getting out of the house. It's very interesting. John welcome to ocean county. John. Why did work here for quite a long time? You know. Ocean county is part of south jersey. Just lynching are now. It's on the website that I had it. I position longtime ago about a year ago anyway. So we're here live that ship bottom brewery with Richard Hello house, rich going pretty good. Fantastic richer is also one of the co host of fear of a crappier planet podcast. On the science network. You guys are killing it lately. I mean, they get no fence to our guests here today, but you know, they get to talk to like. Talk to this week. Just did Greg cook from stone Friday tomorrow. Twenty-second second tomorrow. Okay, exciting. That coincides with my birthday. That's awesome. And also here with us tonight is fixed Baylor, the president of the ocean county home birds sociation, and thanks Victor, putting us all together at a really, really cool spot. I'm glad it's our first. This is really first out side one, but it is out of burry this. I think this is the first one county brewery, at least for south jersey beer scene, south. And I gotta tell you a fantastic smelling ready as he gets come off the street with. Very nice. So who do we got here today? Vic today we have owner and founder of ship bottom brewery. We have rob Zarco and we have the head brewer, Jake stay lean. I said that correctly, you can just into your boss. Hey, guys. We are here to talk about Chabad them brewery brewing in ocean county and other interesting things as they may unfold. So rob, you've been Homebrew and sunshine since nineteen ninety five. So nine hundred ninety five. I read somewhere that you had a bucket, a paddle and a couple of bottle caps and you made some beer. First of all, do you remember how you acquired the kit? This is a real important thing. If you ever podcast, we always want to know how everybody started. Well, I'm from Pennsylvania and. I'm sorry. County. They actually had a place to go to make the beer. My brother and I decided not to do that. We started out together at a shop. Keystone Homebrew of Montgomery Ville. So he found the kit- decided to do on weekend down at my in-laws beach house and ship autumn. So there was straight. He made it. We had again of malt extract poured into a bucket, some water sanitize water left laid off. We didn't know where we're doing. It was to hot nice bath. We'll have two hours came back after a couple of drinks, but wait on the east end press assists. So what's the question we is now Vic. What do we ask after they make it? How was it actually turned out good, which I was surprised about because if it didn't, none of this would have been here, you'll probably gave up on it. We talked to a lot of people in either it's really bad, and that's a good thing or it's really good insight. Good thing. Like a lot of people talk to like it was awful and I knew I wanted to fix it. We hear that quite a lot we. Yeah, I just need because I knew I could do this. Brewin- beer is never a bad thing. It's always good. You learn from whatever you do wrong in the first place, so. So you're brewing at home and then you open up a burry Pennsylvania's. Yeah. So yeah, I was growing for years. It's doing different mess at around, and I started to get more automated where the system had a computer controlled more money into it and has put more money into it and doing fermentation, control the beer. Scott better said on people start telling me I should start doing something with it and just thought about as a tax write off and open a small brewery at the time. That's where I met Jake. I'm at the owner..

"Get out to see all these but i don't rob goes quite a few victims law the a lot of the stuff up in ocean county not nearly as many as i should rich richard does a lot of taping all over the place here planet so they do some stuff but i will say this some of them came out of the gate with a lot of promises that they're going to not going to mention names with big systems and how they were gonna take the whole area and i think what people are finding out now is that that's not how it works people have become more discernible what beers they're going to drink and just because you build a big beer factory in their backyard doesn't necessarily mean that they're not going to make the trip to monmouth county to drink some michael gains beer and stock their fridge with rather than coming to your place so and john i want to talk to you about this and quality of beer in south jersey has gone through the roof and i think that one of the things that's done that is this competition but i think the brashness from the new people coming in just like with a new restaurant comes in and gonna shut everybody down down they quickly learned that that's not always the case absolutely i i think you really i think you know we started the two thousand eight you know any new jersey like we all are pompoms out okay now it's it's like it's like okay you're opening nothing new you know what what you have what you offer and i think the you have to especially you know me person just me when i go to a new and i look they have eight to ten taps and six ripe as medium like really right really honestly you know we have all these great choice now can throw punchline as at us it's like new anywhere right but you know unfortunately ip as driving the market and that's gonna you know we can talk about that topic now it's almost like it's almost like when you have a vote of the best beers in america and aided a top ten or as it's like that too i love ipa's fixed going to get it at ten i know those made up no for say but i'm saying even in that kind of proportions how much variation can you get an ip that drive your children if you wanna make two or three or three or four really good ones fine but if more than half of what you offers to me that's like i dunno i should juicy this kind of juicy sort of juicy juice it all very west coast this kind of west coast robin i've talked about this and you know on and off the air and they have you know we forget that their business short and that's that's something that we forget so mcdonald's makes shitty food and has been in business for up teen years this is the same argument.

"So that was a stop the awkward little moment of silence they're so so now you have this distributorship and you're sure we mainly in south jersey can you distribute out of state at just in new jersey we were actually i've been up to mercer and essex and we're in total wine and more and wagmans for honor brewing wow that's so we basically go north for them and we're trying right now to get into bottle king up there that's like fifteen stores so we can do the whole state we were originally only going to do mercer mama th south but honor wanted to hit all the wagmans and most of the wagmans were north of that we were initially atlantic cape may and cumberland county only and then we kept creeping creeping and i think there's talks about creeping a little bit more at some point so yeah i mean where the demand is so you have this stable beers you get people calling you still to talk to you about you know hey i got this beer and what he wanted work we do i have a right now actually have a couple seitaridis that call all the time i don't think we're ready to take another fulltime brewery on or or cider until we get this nail down and get our base of our customer base and everything but we are open to what we're trying to do is some of these breweries that can't distribute all the time like a hard to get re like bring in a palette of it for one time and that's what we can do because we don't contract so just give us one hundred cases of some crazy hard to get beer that's beer traders are all love and four and we'll put it out throughout the state alchemists started doing that very recently you can see it's shown up in philly and it's going to be showing up in california here i mean that's a beer trading thing is really they had their own their little tour they started up in waterbury and made their way down the miami and dropped off beers at all the distributors that will be distributing you know the atmosphere is at ease the fobel's goals i mean that must have been out of the office that day stop.
