"That's a pretty major oversight. If that is. LEGITIMATE SO Yeah very interesting story, but the Lincoln and the show notes for anyone wants to check that out. And if you do happen to be somebody WHO's looking to escape from adobe, very funny video, which will put a link to in the show, nuts not safer work, but it's called breaking up with adobe and it goes for about. Three minutes and it is hilarious and it's made in the style off. I don't know if anyone saw the movie Sin City with Elijah Wyatt. That sort of fill nwe, why cod also the moment swells. That's the one that's the one. So it's made in that style, it's very good. It's well worth having a look at. The next thing I found was a guy in Mauritius. The Island Nation of the East Coast of Africa. was rather put out by the idea. The Google never sent the street view Carter Mauritius. He decided he would create not so much straight view, but basically he would photograph with he's drone a bunch of three hundred sixty degree panel images like you get on Google. Off the entire island of Mauritius, so he drove around the entire island, and he's created a there was hundreds of images and he set up his own website. Code, Rubens viewer rubes view or something because he's name was Reuben, but. Having a very sorry for look at it just before. We started recording tonight and I thought good earning. Just. Obviously, proud of his country thinks it's a beautiful photogr, photogenic location and has been slotted. Anyway definitely check that one and the last thing that I grabbed was. Sony have hinted that coming in the summer and I think that means the amount and some of which would be a winter. Is a new Sony. A seven s three, but what's interesting about this is? Saying it is a complete departure from the previous I seven S. The prison becky optical viewfinder. No..

EVO 2020 was cancelled

"Yvo Twenty twenty has been canceled due to various sexual abuse allegations. Yvo Is the biggest annual fighting game tournament in the world, and even with the covid nineteen issues plaguing everyone on the planet. The tournament was soldiering on with plans to make it fully online. Earlier this week, however that all fell apart, and in order to learn more about it, I called on Imran Khan to explain everything Imron. Come into the gaming ride home show again for having me Yvo was canceled. And I just want you to give me the full story. What happened? Why was it canceled? Everything start from the beginning, so ego is the biggest fighting tournament in America Kinda the biggest in the world. There's like some discussion about that at this point, but ego is basically where fighting games have been aspiring to for the last twenty thirty years and listening started in the ninety S. This year, obviously because of covid kit have their usual Mandalay Bay Las Vegas big gathering of fighting game players. So this year they ended up canceling I place. Eve Online Eve online was a different thing where the. Mainly, got games together with like Netco like mortal Kombat eleven and them fighting her indie game that was originally based on my little pony, but basically it was A. It has to evolve brand that could stay around despite not being the big mass gathering tournament that they expect over the last couple of weeks. There's been a bigger. industry-wide movement to out sexual predators in gaming and the gaming industry, and some companies have been hit harder than that are with that bubis off for example, but for the most part it's. It's not a huge thing within the FTC. Because the FTC's always kind of had a reputation of like. Being a bit more open with their sexual harassment and it's always like. It's never been to a level of. A mass critical mass. Joey quilter this past week yesterday in for yesterday in fact was outed by a player. Named He's just does mikey. He goes online and is after the tag is crack. Peron but George Taylor. Who is the head of the current? President Vivo who founded it with Tommy Tony Kanaan. was outed for experiences when he was. Close, to twenty, where they were southern golf land, which is an amusement park in l. a.. That mikey accused him of basically. Paying money to young kids to take their shirts. Germany polls mikey related experience where he said quarter. Paid him twenty dollars to see his genitals inside a restroom and bought him pornography so. It's IT'S A. It's a larger thing that when you look at it from the perspective of not a child who just thinks they're having fun. It's real creepy, but what is conditions came out. Other people's Front, also coming out of the woodwork, saying like more finding old chaser people were talking about doing these things, but not naming names, and now that it's out. The floodgates are broken out. Yvonne immediately went. No, WE'RE GONNA put on administrative leave and check this out, so I mentioned Tom. Tony Kennedy before their more famous like they are obviously co-founders of ego, but there are more famous right now for being developers of Product L. at riot games so. They had to step in for this and go okay. We're looking at this right now. We're investigating and seeing what happens. It did not take very long before nether realm. I believe the first one like say. Are Involved with ego involvement in that sense means we don't WanNA game there. We're not going to earn any money towards prize pools. We're not doing any advertising which is fairly big deal. Arguably moral combat was like the lead game for that tournament. Right for the online tournament. Yes, Merle come at usually has a hard time with like the in person tournament. Fighting community hasn't really take to that game too well, but as an online net code game like for example, smash brothers was canceled for Eve online because the net code. Isn't that good, so this is more time to shine. The actual like really arguably was streetfighter as it is every year. This year. Are Not meeting her, but a little bit. After another canceled COP CANCELED IN ONCE CAPCOM cancels gets away from ego. Then that's that's the ballgame lets. Everything goes away soon after main sex developers of them biting heard who this is their big chance to become A. Kind of a household name and if I didn't need community, they cancelled. Bay Namco canceled and ran into that ego are the canons came out with a message from as ego saying? Hey, we were cutting for joy color. He is not president anymore. In the future, he will have zero involvement with the organization this not he's going to not be on. He's going to be on the board, or he'll be the FCC or he'll still kind of tournaments. They're cutting it off completely. Shortly after that they also that announced, we can't under these circumstances and this change in organization also do evil online in a couple of weeks in August. A month or in August? I. Know that screws over a lot of people, but. It seems like honestly the best. Call right now of. You'RE GONNA have to go through with work. That joy has done or you're going to have to. Try It's from scratch. Cobble together in event that takes at least a year to actually set up and try to get together in a couple of weeks. Yeah, I mean they just they basically. Got Rid of the boss in the most public way, possible right I mean it's it's you can't just like recover from that in a matter of weeks. Really Yeah, it's. It is one of those things of a lot of this is. Probably high time for the funding community insert reckoning with a lot of these things, because it's an issue for a number of years, it was I. I don't know if you recall but a about eight years ago, there was a street fight across capcom across Tekken. Show online, and it ended up ending as a result of some sexual harassment claims, and those a big divide in the community about like whether sexual harassment was a just a part of the culture or not and. Stuff like this doesn't help that argument. No I mean I like you, said earlier I mean like. Feels like the right call to elevate it, and as disappointing as it is for Yvo to be cancelled like it's a big flag for like we need to address. This is if we're going to cancel this event because we need to look at ourselves internally and I think I. Mean Hope the hope is that they come out better on the other side. I mean it seems like this is one of those things where. I. Hesitate to say Covid kind of save them but. If. This were an actual in person things still at Mandalay Bay then they wouldn't be able to cancer that quickly an online tournament. Shuttered a lot more easily. The bigger question now is what happens next year.

Harassment Yvo Twenty Twenty YVO Mikey President Trump FTC Mandalay Bay Las Vegas Imran Khan Mandalay Bay America Joey Quilter Riot Games Netco Namco Germany Tony Kennedy Tommy Tony Kanaan. Yvonne

"How many men 12. None 00 Didn't begin effort life Well, there's your problem. That's why they're only showing you the female streamers. But from what I've seen in some of the stuff they get very graphic into describing some of the issues and toe why he's actually filing this lawsuit. Yes, well, I mean, OK to not be a total prude here. I don't think he's ever going to win this lawsuit in any reality that is also a serial lawsuit guy. This is not the first time he's brought a lawsuit onto a big Michael Sony Nintendo blizzard, all of them he's lives. Part of the conversation has to be had that there is even though they're a minority, a smaller subgroup of people on twitch that believe that there are some female streamers that seem to get away with a little bit more. You know, with some of those statements, you know, and as well as the fact that he's saying, Hey, you know you're doing a different kind of punishment system for men versus women like there've been prominent female streamers that have actually shown a nipple on, you know, stream before, and they didn't get a Ban. But then people that are painting nude figures would get bands. There's a kernel of truth wrapped in like sandwich twitch has issues with the way that it moderates. But I don't think that any one group gets the worst of it or or doesn't get the worst of you know what I mean? It's just really inconsistent all over the board. Are you considering leaving the council world behind and getting into PC gaming? We'll have some tips for you to get started coming up in a little over 10 minutes ahead. Next. Don't @ Me: The Story Behind Twitch's $25 Million Sex Addiction Lawsuit

"So recently twitch was served a twenty five million dollar lawsuit by Guy Dealing with a severe sex addiction. Basically he believes that the hundreds of women streamers he follows, makes his sex addiction worse in. It's all twitches fault. Yeah this story is as crazy as it sounds. Let's get into it. Guys were streaming over at twitter DOT TV. Slash the score e sports, and we're adding more and more content every single week, so whether it's talkshow clouded or the rotating Friday streams follow the channel, so you know when we go live, and maybe you'll catch me winning another absurd game of chess. I one call now wait what what kind of stupid game! I. Don't honestly I don't know how the first happened. Okay? Now back to the lawsuit on June fifteenth. A guy named Eric Estherville filed twenty five million dollar lawsuit against twitch lawsuit states that s still suffers from a bunch of health issues, including OCD, depression and a severe sex addiction, and the lawsuit goes on to say that quote. Because of these maladies he heavily relies on the Internet for all of his entertainment, purposes and quote. Quote and basically he suing twitch, because he alleges that women twitch streamers make his sex addiction OCD worse quote twitches severely exacerbated his condition by displaying many sexually suggestive women, streamers through twitches, twisted programming, and neck owed making it nearly impossible for the plaintiff to use twitch without being exposed to such sexually suggestive content and quote to be clear, and this is in the lawsuit s to below follows exactly seven hundred eighty six women streamers. Zero male streamers not only does the lawsuit named twenty popular women's streamers including. And pokey, Main in-includes, pages, and pages of photos of these women as evidence as I was going through this lawsuit looking through these photos, it just felt really weird. It didn't sit right with me. One other issue that s says exacerbates his sex. Addiction is the fact that you can't choose to break down streams by gender quote. There's no way for the plaintiff to filter streams. He'd like to. To Watch based on gender, male or female. Therefore, the plaintiff has to choose a game and or category to watch with thumbnails, showing these scantily clad women alongside men of being the only streaming channels available to him and quote now in reality you could manually filter between men and women streamers, depending on who you follow, but remember according to the lawsuit Esta follows exactly seven, hundred, eighty six. Six women, streamers and zero men again, according to the lawsuit, the twenty five million dollars estabilish, asking for is to be split between him in other twitch prime turbo subscribers with the rest of the money leftover going to charities of the courts, choosing on top of the twenty five million s Davila was asking twitch permanently banned the twenty women named in the lawsuit. Okay, everything we just discussed. Discussed makes up the front half of the lawsuit. The entire back half of a lawsuit is dedicated to multiple academic papers, breaking down the history in research done on sex, addiction and listen. This is a real medical issue in this guy deserves all the help that he needs. But blaming women on twitch is probably not the answer now. If you're thinking where the hell did this come from. Actually ESTHERVILLE. Oh has history of filing these kind of over the top lawsuits. It all starts back in two thousand nine after s Davila was banned from PS end for being a troll while playing resistance fall of man online and if you didn't know. Is Basically playstations online ecosystem similar to xbox live? Here's a quote from an interview. He did with an gadget when he originally filed the lawsuit quote. I sued Sony because when they banned me, they banned my whole console, which is like a five hundred dollar waste there because I can't go online anymore, which was one of my ways of socializing so when I sued for fifty five thousand dollars that was something called punitive damages. When you're trying to penalize a company, and that's what I was trying to do. Penalize them for banning someone and quote from there. He sued Sony again. Plus Microsoft in ten does over flaws in different console designs that he purposely tried to find that in. In Two thousand ten I Japan gamespot could talk in a bunch of other gaming websites did their job in wrote about the lawsuits that Estella had filed against Sony Microsoft and Nintendo and he really didn't like that like as in he filed one giant lawsuit against thirteen different websites, because he was upset about the fact that they were writing about him. estabilish became so notorious that he was given all sorts of nicknames, the plaintiff the serial sewer. The list goes on. Also he wants sued blizzard, because apparently walking in world of warcraft took too long and in the lawsuit he tried to rope in actress, Wynona Ryder to explain the significance of alienation in Catcher in the Rye and quote. Rider, catcher in the Rye world of warcraft lack. Of and you probably won't be surprised to hear that. All eight lawsuits were either dropped by Estella himself or dismissed by the court outright now the complaint against twitch was filed on June fifteenth, while the summons was served to them on June nineteenth meaning legally now they have to respond in court, and while twitch hasn't made an official statement on this situation. It's only a matter of time before the core proceedings become public and hey, maybe this case will farther than anyone else was expected. What? He said all the haters. I'm not trying to zag just because everybody else is going in one direction, but I honestly don't understand. A lot of the complaints like people are really upset about the story, choices and things like that and it's just like. Why why are you upset that somebody told you a story that. You didn't agree with the choices like it's not your fucking story to tell. And I get that we have connections to characters, and when certain things happen. It makes you upset, but. Really. I fundamentally do not understand how people can be upset about somebody else's narrative created in Britain.

"Level five from the Game Willy Wombat a Saturn composed by Masayoshi Ishi. Takeshi Sato. And this is an interesting. Interesting game. It's nice detail. Game. It's three, but the characters are all two. Sony Changed Perspectives. It just a rotates this. Get different doesn't rotate the SPRITE. You just get different. The sprite changes different perspectives X is symmetric kind of you. So and it's not super exciting looking, but it's interesting. Is that crash bandicoot original name was willie the wombat. and. Because Sega released actual. Willy Wombat Game I naughty dog. The developer of crash had to change the name, and they came up with the name crash bandicoot and You know! What which character do you remember more Willie? The wombat crash bandicoot well I'm just happy, because thanks to that name does know nowhere to plan. CUDE is yeah. I mean I. Guess I guess he looks looks kind of like a wombat. The character of the actually changed. Right nothing? That's probably why they went with something. Ridiculous abandoned Kudos was similar enough to a wombat. that. We can go with this. They probably change them a bit though because I to remove wings. Yeah, so. At least remove wings. I wanted to choose on. This is A. List that I had this kind of complimented the one you picked I. The most is like kind of dark and slow and dreamy. It's just I don't know it's got that style. Ah, looks like some great games. It also came. I'm happy to say that I thought Sonny wasn't going to do this with a with a blue ray Uhd player. So now that's my excuse. Oh, honey. I need a blue Ray Uhd player so we can watch movies on our TV before K TV. He's a special player, so I haven't excuse now. And those games look good, though. What's interesting is the technology that's going into these new video gaming systems. Microsoft will have its updated Microsoft Xbox. Siri's X Around the same time. It also is pretty darn impressive. These things are more powerful in many ways in a computer effect. It's the easiest way to play a game. Most of them now no longer will have this just be downloaded. Microsoft talked a little bit about that this week as well. Digital downloads the future. People have a lot of Lot of band with so they could do that. And these games. They're so vivid. You don't even have to put on the v R. Although, of course Sony has its PlayStation Now you're really in there. You're in the game. You're in it. Can't get up there you can see has stay seated. Patriots sign QB Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady

"Tonight I think it's exciting to see what Newton can do a healthy Newton with Josh McDaniels and bill ballot check in this offense sieve juggernauts if you well and remember McDaniels they run a very innovative offense that Matt Werner ram mentioned it last hour in twenty ten they draft Gronk Aaron Hernandez they go to that too tight and sat before everybody else they have in the NFL did then it's copy cats city they hurried up shortly thereafter before chip Kelly was even hired by the eagles and now that's commonplace and this new read option type offense the Newton is a master of the patriots haven't done it given Tom Brady's obvious limitations in that category so this picture offense last year was a boring offense to watch it was a slog it was a struggle it wasn't exciting it was the first time where if you're a patriots fan you looked wistfully at the other teams and said why why can't we have Josh Allen yeah there is a ton of pics but always teases interesting to watch why why can't we have Lamar Jackson Pat Mahomes Ryan Tannehill why why can't we have to Shawn Watson why can't we have a quarterback who can move a little bit who can do more than the ball on the territory a five yard screen pass to a double covered Julian Edelman why well healthy cam Newton gives the patriots a more dynamic offensive attack I mean let's face it this was not a very good offense with Tom Brady especially in the second half of last season I think that there is that thirsty to try something new in belt check the is a really smart guy and smart people want new challenges and I think him new night I think introducing that element of offense which is going to come anyway because Jarrett Stidham is more mobile too so either way the patriots were gonna introduce more of that read option modern type NFL offense but and I think that excite spell check and probably excites McDaniels and in terms of where they're going as a running a running based offense Newton obviously is far more dynamic in that category the Brady too and if Sony Michelle returns to form a franchise and left guard this offseason me not to the patriots about their starting center David Andrews back healthy and they have three guys who can now play full back including two players who they drafted this year that's clearly the direction the patriots are moving find a really good and versatile defense and I Bella check as one league does this as the week goes this way Belichick is going that way and that you see that the roster construction of this team and I can even help

Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Trailer

"Sony had a big event. Abra field the play station five. PS five is out and a couple of games That are going to be a launch before we get into what it looks like because it's kind of a neat design, looks kind of like a sculpture. One of their launch games will be. This is either a sequel or spinoff of the twenty eight. INSOMNIAC AWESOME SPIDERMAN PS four game. It's called Spider Man Miles Morales gig wounded Holy Shit. It's coming to the playstation five this holiday twenty twenty. In they had a trailer in fucking looks amazing. This. Here's some spoiler. The about the first game, which is two years old in that game, you do get to play miles a little bit here and there he's in there. He also gets his powers during the game. And there's little clips of Peter Training him so by the end of the game. His story is that he's got powers at so this looks amazing. What this trailer Anthony! I thought it was awesome. I mean I haven't owned. A system since playstation three three. Yeah, I don't know if I had. Maybe two! I don't know if I even had. Not GonNa. Look what a playstation three looks like. Forget what the three looked like. It was black with a right with the playstation three three thousand popular yeah. So, but I haven't own I'm not a big Gamer, not because I don't think I would like I, think I get to win to it. But this trailer was freaking amazing the way they cut it with a music. I don't know there was a good fun i. mean the Mo the first off. It looks great at. The move the the music. The R&B or Hip hop that the playing with it. I don't know they have. They do a really good job of fitting it with miles, rallies and just. was pumped watching the miles model like the way he looked is great, and it looks a lot like the Spiderman game, so I was like Holy Shit. This is great except I. You have playstation four against patron saint of awesome. So you know what I can wait wait. The PS five is backwards compatible that but I also wonder will there be a sequel to the other Spiderman, game is the sequel I still want another one with Peter and like venom. Because they didn't introduce the kind of hinted at it at the end, we'll have to have rugs on and to really like dive into what is cool about the playstation five well. Let's click that link. Take a look at. It looks like isn't so. It's white and black stormtroopers. Like start. Vertical it's it's two toned. It's got these. It looks like retro futuristic like what the future looks like in the sixties. Design but it's pretty sick. It's like it's not flat. It's very organic. Will have a version with a BLU ray, drive and one. That's just digital. So I guess it might be cheaper. They did not release any prices. What's the difference what I'll digital without a disk drive? So you download and install your games off like the playstation store? And of course, the dual sends controller is enhanced wireless headphones in a remote in HD camera, but I like the way this looks it's. Dated, not the only thing they said was when it's coming out now if they're saying, this game comes out holiday twenty twenty, I would imagine. There's probably coming up for Christmas. If they're ready, showed this now. This is going to be like Christmas launch. I mean I have to say the trailer for the Spiderman. Just going back to that was. Really

"Right now I'm here with Tina Amini Sam, claiborne and Lucille Brian. WHAT'S UP, everybody? Hey. Hello, there Thank you for joining me on this. Very special edition of Games cube part of June simmer gaining. We've got to talk about Sony's playstation, five future of gaming event yesterday and I give me serve overall impressions. Would you think of the show? Let's start with Tina. It Yeah I. Mean twofold right like I thought the Games were really amazing. They had thirty seven games, which is really impressive There's something exciting about every single one of them. We got to see the actual console design finally just a really big news drop their, and honestly I was just overall impressive with the production value general, especially given you know work from home mandates and working and living through the quarantine, so I thought they did a really good job. That was exciting to watch. Lucy era, a regular cast member of our place in podcast podcast beyond and I know you. did a bunch of pre and post show coverage of yesterday. What were your overall impressions okay? Festival beyond second of all. I thought that the show is great. I think as Tina said that was a great lineup of games. it. Really Tony Really positioned itself as like this is the holiday console these other games. You're only going to get up to get on playstation. Five of them were very family friendly I. Really think that that was a smart play on their part. And you know the console itself. It's wild. It's ridiculous I. Love it I think it's just like it was just really really fun Shar and I. Think Sony is kind of in the late now when it comes to this console racism. I tend to agree with that Sam I know you've been doing a lot of game on xbox. This generation did the conference yesterday. Do Anything to sort of change your mind about where you'll be spending your time. There! There's so many games across both systems that are awesome I think you're gonNA be fine with either system at this point, but man I really liked yesterday's show because I always say this I. Don't really care how the console looks. So there's this looks Kinda goofy and I don't really want it outside of my home console. I kind of want to put it in a cabinet. We'll see how that goes, but I do think. The Games are really important focus on demand. There are such such A. A huge variety of games and one thing that I need to do is start like seeing the previews of these games, which we're doing and stuff like that because I want to see what they look like Super High Rez. Glorious Four K. because I've seen is like my best youtube up. You know and like I can't really see if they look different next Gen, but they look fun and that's awesome. Like. What was it Tina thirty seven new fun games to check out now that so exacly? That's really I can't wait. I was I was a little bit shocked. At how many games there were in the conference yesterday? Also just. It's crazy to think that you know Sony backed out of the three last year. They weren't planning incoming this year, but then gets cancelled and now Sony's back with a three level conference. The Week of Winnie three would have been in like Microsoft is nowhere to be seen. It's disagrees when. Is a wild ride all statement. I. Are So good. They're like they're like so like. Did you just show the trailer? Show that there's nobody walking around and pacing. Honestly I was a little bit amazed that they were able to get. People cut out on black backgrounds for the interviews that they had like. I don't really know how they pulled that off. They look at our crazy steph back here, but they literally pro and I think they did a really good job. Just showing the important stuff and I liked that. So as as the event was going on, and we just kept seeing game after game after game I started to wonder if they were going to show, go the hardware, but of course at the they did at the end revealed the places to five hardware, and it has been It's been. It's been a talking point for sure. If a wildly different council design I'm in the camp I think it's a little a little gaudy and I much prefer the sort of. Silence Classy xbox series design, but I know that a apparently I'm in the minority there. Sixty eight percent of I, raiders say love the playstation five council design. Sam Seems to agree with me. Lucy is a little bit more in favor of it Tina. How do you feel about it? I think I'm in the like ten, or whatever other remaining percent of Jan polled readers that just don't really care. I'm fine with either way. It's going to be the system that I play hopefully the amazing games that they showcased in the conference the other day, and that's the thing that I have my mind most on, and then the controller, which looks comfortable and maneuverable. 'cause. That's obviously the vehicle by which we're experiencing the game, so the console I'll I'll throw it up next to my TV I. Don't mind either way. Yeah it's pretty cool. Very different. That is very different I like the design of the controller a lot. But I think the council. The council's pretty ugly to me. We have a quote from Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan explaining the design choice today said the playstation sits in the living area of most homes, and we kind of felt it'd be nice to provide a design that would really grace most living areas. That's what we do and you know. We think we've been successful in that. Jim. My wife would beg to differ with you. There's no way she would let me have. But, like what? What does Jan Ryan's Living Room? Look like if that is kind of like. Just said like an easy thing to slip into it I. Mean I i. just think this design is bonkers. It's basically the of the gaming console equivalent of racing stripes on a car. It's just so silly and I love it. I love it because every other game console the. Being conservative with its design and this is just so ridiculously out there.

Marvel's Spider-Man followup on PS5 features Miles Morales

"INSOMNIAC tweeted today. Spider Spiderman Miles. Morales is the next adventure in the marvels. Spiderman Universe we will reveal more about this. Stand alone game at a future date Hashtag. Miles, Morales ps five Jason Schreier of course from Bloomberg still doesn't feel right to say added this on Twitter News Spiderman Miles. Morales is not an expansion or enhancement or re master. Despite a Sony executives comments this morning, a source tells Bloomberg News Nor is it Spiderman to it is a brand new standalone game similar in scope to uncharted loss legacy. which makes sense is exactly what I wanna hear I think that's exactly what we all expected. They announced were now state yesterday right like it. Being called Marta Man's spider man miles, morales it, not necessarily having a to in the title and it also like showing off that trailer that had if had no Peter Parker to. Where if you finish the first game, you'd understand why that feels off in terms of Peter Parker being nowhere in the game or in that first trailer. He's probably going to be in the game. that does that doesn't necessarily feel like a spider man to like feels like some some sort of spinoff. Offshoot title, but like not off shoe or spinoff in a bad way right like my brain Amelia went to try to las. Vegas I think that's where we all kind of done to if. Out and it's like a forty dollar thing and you get like what like ten to fifteen hours worth of story and Gameplay and like New York and even if it is the same, New York from spider man twenty eighteen. That is maybe slightly altered it in some ways to bring up the speed like that's all i. that's all I really expected. I think that will be like a really good satisfied experience. All I want more hours in this in the. Went Back and watch the trailer again last night. Right seeing miles. play a far different than what spiderman does seeing him. PS5: Sony gives first look at PlayStation 5

"Episode is going to be all about the playstation. Five and the PSI reveal event that Oh my God showed so much. I'm joined this week by Brian. Town Hey beyond beyond Lucy O'Brien. Beyond. Mexico Bill. Larry Station. Guys We. We have so much to talk about. It's a meeting like the pipe was finally unblocks. Yeah I like. The number of episodes were even like playstation. Games are coming soon. They're coming soon. We're GONNA get into Oliver Reactions the biggest game some of the. Gains in some of the stuff that we didn't see in this place type reveal event I. If you haven't watched it, we'll have some of the bureau going, but please go check out all of these really cold trailers. But I do want to start off of course with the consulate self We were all watching the show together. We were listening. and talking over dischord together, and throughout the whole show we all like. Are they leading up to the console, and they lead up to the council. They showed the design of the PS five. In fact, they should to designs. We have one with the disc drive in it, and then also an all digital edition much like xbox one Saturday. We didn't get prices for this or released, but we did. Get a designed so I want to know everyone. What did you think of this designed Lucy? Let's start with you since I. Know The design has been a big thing for you. Well I mean I as I said on livestream like I've always wanted Sony to go like stupid crazy with this, because like console designs have gotten increasingly conservative over the years, and I've just. I said all along like make this like home is car like just at a whole bunch of we to it? Make it strange like heaven. You know strange shape, and and all that and you know I gotta say they really delivered on this one I mean it is oh, it is a weird looking console. I mean the means already starting as we speak. The names the main factory is generating. It's I love it I have absolutely no idea how it's. GonNa, work, aesthetically might apartment. By afternoon photos of it horizontally I will say there are photos that show you can put it in your. You know which is which is good I, can't I can't think of the district is a little like a little hernia. Mainland China like it's like it's like it's pregnant, but that on the side, so it's like a little hernia on the side Damn. Had On. It would probably look like like the the disc version is off before we went into quarantine. And then there's the other version where we have A. You know we've gained the covert. We have. Got Exactly where my thoughts went to, but yeah Taylor Pooch. You know needs you can work off. You can lose weight in like a week or two. You just gotTa. Just clean eating, no beer for a couple of days. But why would you WANNA do that? The My? Now wants to chow down after snacks. I I'm totally I. This is probably one of the more surprising looking council reveals ever honestly in terms of the first impressions, just in terms of like being something that is so completely nontraditional while immediately screaming video game console at U. obviously a lot of people being incredibly productive, being like it looks like a router I'm old enough to know that this is the same stuff of intend to. We I think. Think, people like they they they get really bored when they just see a big black sideways boxer vertical box but they also don't want it to go to strange in another direction I'm actually all for it. The interesting thing to me is that people have started to lineup using the drive size and the USB size in the front. Exactly how much bigger taller it would be than the series accents obviously sinner. What it is about five to six inches taller with. Is is pretty is pretty sizable I honestly maybe could be four inches, but it's either way it's this. This is a significant size taller than the series x, and it got me looking at my entertainment center, and wondering. Where is GONNA work near to put it sideways. Put it vertical but you know we the second controller I think we kinda hoped that it would aesthetically match the bizarre weirdness of how kind of like weird future future they went with that and the white black color scheme, and they delivered, and I'm all for it. I we're you know we've got to see if there's any other colors that will see for but. I remember when the series came out. People were immediate like Oh. You can put stickers on it. You Skins on it and I. Don't know if I want to do that. This like at all like it feels like putting a bumper sticker on a Bentley. It really feels like just by looking at it that it went through so many different iterations that someone to said okay light lace just like just tear up history books and start afresh in like. Just go not so that like just a as crazy as you want. And then we'll kind of like lower it from there and I really love to see some of those other designs, because it does like we did this on the last show I think Otani use it like it does feel like it could have been a mock-up from a fan.

Top Stories From The Balkans

"We're going to get around above stories making news in the Balkans now I'm joined to buy our correspondence in the region at guide to Lauraingraham. Good afternoon to you. You are in the Slovenian capital. What is happening there? While we're opening up a bet here, marcus in fact, as Britain is going in the direction of putting arrivals and quarantine fourteen days, which is caused a great deal of Cathal over there. I'm here in Slovenia it's exactly the opposite. The country's just opened up. To arrivals from fourteen other European countries, and that's ranging from Switzerland to Iceland and Germany the Baltics, and that's in addition to its neighbours, Croatia Hungary and Austria. Restrictions on rivals from those places had already been lifted Italy those going to have to wait for a little while, but probably for about a week longer, and it's very bad news coming from north Macedonia Marcus, it's a compulsory fourteen day quarantine arriving from that, and that's because of a recent increase in a number of covid nineteen cases. Luckily I'm not coming from us. Part of the world's continuing to the neighboring country Croatia. What's making headlines over there now? We'd like railway journey Sony Marcus on Monocle, twenty, four and I. This is warm, which sounds to me? Like a railway journey that that I'd like to make, and it's one from the Czech Republic through to the Croatian coast, and this is being run by the Czech railway operator regular I think you pronounce it regular jet. Should we go with that? And they are running trains that I think we'll go with that the plan anyway as whatever they could they. However you pronounce that they're going to be running night. Trains from the Czech Republic from Prague directly through to the Croatian coast to be precise, the city of the reactor, which is actually one of the European capitals of culture this year, and from they'll be able to get connections to any of your coastal destinations, and this is a big deal. It's a big. Big Deal for people in the Czech Republic because eight hundred thousand of them every year. Go on holiday in Croatia apparently, the the advertising in in the Czech. Republic refers to Croatia as aw coast so quite proprietorial about it. They are number seven in terms of tourist arrivals in Croatia, so it's not an exaggeration, really but it's also a big deal for Croatia. Because twenty percent of their GDP is generated by tourism I'm said they're going to have to. Find ways of getting people from places like the Czech Republic that key tourism markets. If that is salvage any kind of a summer season at all, and this is exactly the when people are talking about corona corridors between countries which have low infection rates of which. Croatia and the Czech Republic A to well I think that A. Colorado, because let's face it this. This trains conjugate three tunnels Marcus that raw appeals to me I in terms of both an elegant solution and the word play, and the fact that it'll. Be a very beautiful train journey. Sony fined $2.4 million over illegal return policy in Australia

"Sony, been, find three point five billion dollars misleading. Australian consumers into your question. Where does that money go? Fund Jordan. At. Legal. Exactly who writes Sony Europe? which which controls Sony's operations in Australia has been find three point five million. Australian. You Know Australian dollars. I was GONNA. Say Australian US dollars while I was like that doesn't make sense. Dollars for misleading Australian consumers over it's refund policy. The company has been ordered to pay this amount in penalties for making false and misleading representations regarding Australian Consumer Law Rights. The court case that led to the settlement involved a series of consumers who contacted Sony over a game. They deemed faulty. There were refused refunds for two reasons The game was purchased digitally, and it'd been fourteen days since they made the purchase. These responses from Sony do not align with Australian consumer law, so the case went to court. Another breach of acl came as Sony Sony told a consumer that it could not provide a refund unless the game developer. It and another told another that the refund would have to be issued using digital currency only usable on the PS store the place. It's just store. Consumer guarantee rights do not expire after add. Digital product has been downloaded that. Certainly do not do not disappear after fourteen days or any other arbitrary date claimed by a game store or developer reads a statement from Robertson's chair of the ACC. Well with Sony told what Sony told. These consumers was false and does not reflect the consumer guarantee rights afforded to Australian consumers end quote. According to the release from the ACC Sony Europe's terms of service implied that users quote did not have consumer guarantee rights, regarding the the quality functionality, completeness, accuracy, or or performance of their purchase digital. Games and club between October two, thousand seventeen, and may twenty nineteen. So, this is one of those ones one of those where I. Don't really have a take on it like it seems like everything happened the way it should happen right leg. Sony violates guidelines Australia right like doesn't give people the refunds that they should be getting based on those guidelines and yeah, it gets find the way it should happen. Yeah, I. Mean It. kind of sheds a light again on how digital purchases! In that being more of a thing, now are going to have more scrutiny because of the way that you know kind of archaic systems have kind of pushed against it in the long way like I remember some years ago. I had a issue on this. with a refund that I needed to do, and they were like look you have to produce. Documentation that tells us when you purchase a saying how you purchase staying. What time in Dayton did you do all this stuff and so that we can verify that you may think I was like. Isn't it your job? Don't you have a spreadsheet somewhere when I made that? Purchase that you should be able to go and find that thing. It's hours and hours like goes through my pin purchases throughout to a really bad back in to find out what some of that stuff was I think. We see really really good examples of how companies are doing some of that work that people can kind of mess around with in use for various reasons like steam where you can refund, the thing basically played it no less than ten hours or something like that I forget what the actual number was, but. You know. I think I think this is going to be the part where consumers have to use their power which I'm happy to see that these consumers did. Is Bring up the fact that inequality happened or something that was wrong happened in unusual your voice to two buck- against that because I think again. We're checking the systems in a lot of ways were saying look this thing that you've made and you produce for us? You've made for us to be able to get the things we want. You have flaws in. Let me tell you what these flaws are. And then we can make me. Get that system to better sadly. Wanted to being three point, five million dollars or Australian. Dollar lawsuit, which is Bobby Kodak. Dollars I don't know we have to figure out how much that is translates, but aaliyah. Yeah, but again like this is again. Use your wallet like as a consumer understand the power of the consumer to to to fix things that are actually wrong in the space so. I'm happy needed that that's really smart.

Apple and Paramount to make a deal for Martin Scorseses next movie

"I'm Kim Masters and this is the Hollywood breakdown joining me as Melanie and Matt. The streaming wars as you know as many people who are listeners know are underway. Hbo Max Coming out onto the field of play this week. A lot of people finding it a little including me a little tricky to figure out how to get that even though as a spectrum customer I should be able to access it but it doesn't show up on my TV. Because I have Roku so it's some people can't find it. Some people like it but we are seeing apple seeming to up its game with some big high profile deals. They are spending money. It's a little reminiscent in some ways of the Netflix strategy. Where we seen them angling for high profile expensive awards movies awards prestige movies apple is now throwing. Its hat into that ring. You know backed by the might the economic might that wealth of Apple. Yeah and this is a big project. Martin Scorsese Film. Sources are saying it's between one seventy five two hundred million dollars depending on who you believe probably will go much higher than that given scores as he's track record. It's got Leonardo DiCaprio. It's called killers of the flower moon. And this is a really really interesting play for Apple. Because you saw Netflix's get a lot of attention for the Irishman last year. Whether it was good or bad you can debate that. But it got them into the Oscar conversation in a meaningful way. They didn't walk away with best picture but they were in the game and apple will likely be in the awards game when this movie eventually comes out. What's interesting here? Is the deal structure. You've done some reporting on that because it was originally paramount. Paramount got cold feet and it ended up at apple after a bidding war. After you know it was shopped around town and this is essentially. What I think is going to happen with a lot of movies. Going forward where they get developed at the studios than the price inches up inches up inches up studios where once upon a time they might have taken a risk on a big movie from a big director are now going to get cold. Feet and income streamers just clarify something about that. Paramount is not out of this game. Scorsese has his deal there and they did release them to shop this around but they own the property the underlying novel and this is a very dark period piece set in Oklahoma in the nineteen twenties. Leo DiCaprio originally was supposed to play a good guy. Paramount was really interested in that version. Then he changed it so that he was playing a kind of a villain character and I am told that paramount felt this is now a less commercial movie with the same budget which point they did say go ahead and shop at around and there was a really long pause and apple did step up but it is still a question of a deal with paramount because it is expected that paramount will at least get some sort of a percentage at pop probably released the film in theaters. Which is what. Scorsese did not get with the Irishman with net flicks so having explained all that. Let me say I would pay money? Actually to see tensor Endo's at Netflix's sit down and explain to me. The cost benefit analysis of having spent which I think was certainly over two hundred billion dollars on the Irishman. Yes they got nominated no they. Didn't you know we? They have all the data. How many people sat through it. Did anybody subscribed because of it. It's a black box for people like us but this is this is something that apple is now saying. We're in it. We're in it in a way that will make Scorsese happy with theatrical release and ironically make paramount happy because paramount will have its name on this movie and we'll probably get a good chunk of some kind of a piece of whatever box office it generates win it can get made because we're all stuck now waiting for protocols and an insurance policies to make filming possible so we will see. I will note. This isn't the only movie they bought. They bought Tom. Hanks's movie Greyhound from Sony for supposedly around seventy million. That movie was done studios will sell as you suggest Matt with movies. That you to bring in cash right now I would say many cases. It is not a great vote of confidence. When you see these deals made in the movie itself but it will be high profile. It is Tom Hanks and for Apple. They obviously decided it was worth

Ross of video game press events because he was very calming and very articulate and people found it somewhat reassuring because this was in the early phases of people not knowing what to do about cove nineteen anyway. He talked a lot about the. Ps fives specs in are very very technical way which was super cool but probably not the jazzy sort of thing that a lot of video gamers were hoping for one big thing about the. Ps Five is that it places a new emphasis on loading speed so as Games. Get more complicated. They require more computing assets. That's kind of a no brainer. And that often means that they put a lot more stress on consoles memory. Game Systems load information from hard drives or disks into ram or random access memory. That's like the quick pick part of a computer systems memory. The system can consult that data rapidly as players work through a certain section of a game. And there's no delay because the information is right at hand but unless the game is incredibly simple there will come a point when the player maneuvers to a point that requires the system to pull new data into memory. So it's got rid of the old stuff at Poland new stuff. Memory is a finite resource. Right so they can just pull the whole game in their the pull the bits that are important at that moment and the whole process of pulling new info dumping old info takes a little time and typically that manifests in game as a load screen and. Sony's details about the five seem largely geared toward getting. That downtime minimized as much as possible. And this is going to be really important because we have to remember that as consoles get more complicated game developers make more complicated games. So we're going to see game. Developers really put these new consoles to the extreme. So one of the solutions Sony hasn't including a solid state drive or SSD into the PS five and for a long time s dis. Were super expensive. They have come down in price over the years. This is typically the way we see technology move from Expensive and hard to get to ever present and cheap but solid state drives can load data into memory much quicker than older platter based hard drives. And if you wonder what those are. I've done episodes about it but it's kind of similar to think of like a record player or a CD player that's literally information stored on a platter and moving parts have to move to the rights spot on those platters to pull data. Sst's have no moving parts. They are lightning-fast the PS five will have amd's Zen to microprocessor and this is going to be one that has eight cores operating at a clock. Speed of three point five gigahertz. That's three point. Five billion cycles per second it will also have a crazy powerful graphics processing unit or GPU that can operate at ten point. Twenty eight teraflops. Sounds like something that doc brown would say in back to the future a flop just to remind. You is a floating point operation per second. You know that's what flops stands for floating point operations per second flooding points referred to decimals. It's when you boil it down. It's a really easy way for computers to handle calculations that could include very small and very large numbers The this particular. Gp You can handle ten point. Twenty eight million million of those operations in the second. Yes million million. That's incredible the. Ps Five is also supporting three D audio capabilities which will help developers make even more immersive gameplay experiences. I'm particularly excited by this. Because I think games have really good. Sound design are incredibly impressive. I Love Games that that do that. The company is also working very closely with game developers in general just to make sure that the system is going to be one that game developers are going to want to develop for and another kind of nod to the troublesome past of the PS three which again ultimately turned out well but initially was a bit of a problem and reportedly it's going to be backwards compatible with ps four games though. They may not all be playable right at launch. The Sony's been very careful to say that that some titles will be supported with more titles supported down the line. The new dual shock. Five controllers will likely be similar to dualshock four controllers but reportedly will include a built in microphone which suggests that that he has vibe will have a voice activated assistant akin to something like Alexa or Siri my apologies. If I just activated those and there's a lot of speculation about the console design it's rumored to have a sort of v-shape motif to it. So if you've seen any of the mock-ups or some of the photos that are purported to be of. Ps five developer kits. They have sort of this V. design incorporated into the console itself. That kind of makes sense because V is the Roman numeral for five. There's an equal amount of speculation about the console's sales price. Sony hasn't given one as the recording of this episode. Most guesses fall somewhere between four hundred and five hundred dollars in the US. And that's about all we know about the PS five as of the recording. This episode there. There's a lot more speculation I could talk about but I find that road not really worth traveling down. We can just wait to get more info later and if there's enough then. I can dedicate another episode just to the playstation five. Talk about that but for now. I think it's time to say goodbye to the playstation and turn our eyes to some other tech topic. I hope you guys enjoyed this. Exhaustive exploration of the history of the playstation consoles. Obviously there are other things I could have talked about like the PSP. I didn't even touch on that but honestly I think of that as sort of a side thing to the playstation consoles so I might do an episode in the future about different hand-held systems and that would obviously take a very important place in that particular discussion as with the Nintendo switch. Now I think about it so maybe in the future I'll cover that sort of thing but for now we're going to leave it And we're GONNA move away from the Games for a little bit just because you know I don't want to turn into a video game podcast. There's plenty of those out there and they are all really good. I love you the best. Ease you guys are fantastic. That's not a plug. They don't know me I just love that. Show a lot of fun Had A lease Williams from funhouse on recently and if you have not heard that episode of them talking about doom you should go check it out. Again Free Plug. "Now, what this means in a practical sense is that developing games for the PS four was more straightforward. It was easier than developing them for the PS three and taking full advantage other PS threes capabilities. It was also easier to develop a game for multiple platforms because the differences between the PS four and the xbox one weren't so great that it would be an enormous strain on a game development company, so for companies that were looking to maximize their sales by reaching as many gamers as possible. It was much easier to port title over from one platform to another in this generation. On the downside, this would mean that there would be fewer features that really distinguish the PS four from. From its chief competitor, and it's also why the research organizations that have been using PS three consoles didn't show any interest in using the PS four in the same way, because the new consul didn't offer any substantial benefits over a standard PC, so if you wanted to link a bunch of machines together, you would just go out and buy regular computers. There was no real advantage with the PS four now. The PS four is Sony's contribution to the eighth generation of video game consoles. Consoles, Nintendo's original console in this generation was the we. You but Nintendo would actually have to consoles in this generation, the second one being the Nintendo switch. Microsoft's entrant is of course, the xbox one the PS four was the second console to debut in that particular generation of games that followed the we you, but it came out a week ahead of Microsoft's xbox one and this generation is perhaps the most difficult to define from a distinguishing characteristics perspective. The new consoles were not a huge. Huge departure from their seventh generation counterparts apart from the fact that Sony chose to go with more straightforward microprocessor architecture, the PS four and the xbox one were undeniably more powerful than their predecessors, but otherwise it's Kinda hard to point out like big defining features for these consoles over the course of their production lifecycles, which by the way is still ongoing as of the recording of this podcast, both Sony and Microsoft would release updated versions of their consoles the not only slim things down. which was typical? We've often seen. Later versions of the same console just get smaller and more compact. But they also upped the ante on performance. So in some ways this makes the eighth generation of consoles more like traditional PC's. You can't really do those upgrades yourself. You can't break open a playstation for or an xbox one and swap out components I. Mean You could, but you're not supposed to. You have to purchase a whole new console to benefit from the enhancements. Really, know what you're doing, and you don't mind the fact that you've voided all warranties and potentially set yourself up for heartbreak, if if games start relying on code that detect if if a consoles been altered anyway, this includes these enhancements include the ability to send four K. resolution graphics to a compatible television. Both Sony and Microsoft would launch updated consoles capable of doing that, but the launch versions the original PS. Four and the original xbox one did not have four K. capability, which means both my ps. Four and xbox one are totally outdated. I have the original versions of both. Both of those so I can't run four K. resolution staff from those consoles to a television, but that's okay because I also don't have a four K.. TV So I wouldn't be able to see it anyway anyway back to the time line. Sony gave some early details on the PS four at a special press event in New York City in early, two, thousand thirteen, and at that event they didn't actually show off the console. They rather gave some overall specs on what it had going on, and a big part of that actually had to do with it. Controller the dual shock four. All right so I've talked a lot about dual shot controllers in this series. So what sets the four apart from the earlier controllers for one thing Sony built in some of the features found in stuff like the move controllers, the dual shock four has motion detection sensors in it. It also has a capacity of touch pad on the controller. itself mounted towards the front. Front of the controller in between the two thumb sticks, and just a quick reminder that capacity touchscreens have electric field that's essentially running underneath the screen, and we humans are conductive, so if we touch a surface like that with our bare skin, we change the nature of that electric field, because some electric current can flow into US capacity touchscreen devices detect the point of. Of contact doing this. There's like a grid pattern underneath it and the disturbance of that pattern is what quote unquote tells a machine where you touched a touch pad surface, and then you've got a processor, and you've got some software that determines what that actually means within the context of an application so it might be like a on a touchscreen smartphone that when? When you touch something, it activates a particular program right, or if it's a gesture like swipe, it might mean. Let's move to the next photograph or whatever the dual shock for also has a three and a half millimeter headphone. Jack, and honestly I almost forgot what those are! 'cause phones have been dropping support for them for the few years. I'm just really exaggerating my. Computer. My laptop has a three and a half millimeter headphone Jack. It's just a regular headphone Jack. Also connects to PS fours wirelessly via Bluetooth two point one. You could also have a hardwired connection if you bought a special, don't WanNA special but a a long enough gable for it. The cables that came on the PS four were notoriously short long enough to be able to charge your your controller, but that was about it unless you were going to have the consul in your lap as you played Sony and Microsoft would do something similar leading up to the launch of their respective eighth generation video game consoles. Both companies began to promote some stuff in their consuls that fell outside the realm of video games both Sony and Microsoft position there consoles as kind of an entertainment and social networking center, sort of a key component of a home theater, system or computer system, so features like sharing stuff on social media or watching livestream content or creating livestream content and accessing services like Netflix became a really big part in the promotional efforts, both for Microsoft and Sony. However I will say Microsoft leaned into this way harder than Sony did in fact to the point where fans. Fans of video..

"Now some months you'd say wow, this is incredible. I got a great game or a couple of games on this month's playstation plus some months. You'd say wow I never wanNA play that game ever but I guess I've got it now. Same thing's true with a Microsoft's service. By the way it's not like Sony's alone. In this a year later in two thousand eleven, the playstation network was the target of an intrusive hack, meaning an unauthorized person or group of persons managed to penetrate Sony's network security, and they gained access to an enormous amount of information, including the personal data of around seventy. Seventy five million playstation network users. The attacks started around eight seventeen two thousand eleven Sony would shut down the network on April twentieth so three days later, and it would remain offline a total of twenty three days the longest outage in the network's history, making matters worse was that Sony admitted that while credit card information was encrypted, other personal identifying information wasn't. which meant the hackers potentially had access to millions of users personal information in plain text data as for who committed the hack today that still remains a big mystery according to Sony, the company had reason to believe that the people connected with the online activist group anonymous were responsible, but anonymous denied responsibility. However, this is incredibly tricky because. Anonymous is a largely decentralized or innovation. In fact, calling it. An organization might be a little bit Misleading, because anonymous has historically more like a group of hackers and activists, anarchists in troublemakers who share some, but not all points of view, so there's not even a unifying ethos or philosophy, an anonymous other than you know. Big companies and big organizations shouldn't have that much control over everybody. That's generally. A kind of unifying theme, but there's a lot of splintering within that group. At the time, the general wisdom was that anonymous had a motive to hack Sony because the company had recently filed a massive lawsuit against a hacker named. George Hotz Aka Gio huts. He had found a way to alter a playstation three, so that it would play pirated or unauthorized software, and then he published. Tell to do it. It and anonymous was largely on the side of the hacker. However, the entire matter had been settled out of court by the time the playstation network hack happened, and as far as I can tell, no one has ever been positively identified as truly being responsible for that hack, so that person's identity remains a mystery or those persons identities, because it could be multiple people, the hack and corresponding data leak. Leak would prompt the US government to call upon Sony. Executives to explain what the company would do for all those who are affected by the breach and Sony arranged to offer identity theft protection policies, essentially insurance policies against identity theft with a company called all-clear. Ide- to everyone affected the hack set. Sony back a pretty penny. The estimates on law says went around the hundred and seventy million dollar range. Interestingly, it wouldn't debut in Japan until early. Two thousand fourteen, so might have been because of PS. Three sales in Japan and Sony didn't want to hurt a good thing. Now I would imagine that had Kutaragi had a large influence in the development of the PS four. It would have taken further steps down the same path that the PS three had established, but instead the PS. Four architecture was much more like a standard personal computer. In fact, it'd be extremely similar to the architecture used in Microsoft's xbox one and here's where yet again I complain about Microsoft's naming conventions. The blaze station is sensible because Sony just adds a higher number with each generation, so it's very easy to talk about them. Meanwhile over at Microsoft. We get X. Box. The xbox three sixty, the xbox one the xbox series X. Knock it off. Microsoft there's no way to meaningfully talk about generations of consoles with these sort of names, and I say that as someone who tends to play more Microsoft consoles than Sony Consoles. Get. Together all right also what happened to Windows nine? Why did we go from eight to ten anyway? An episode about Microsoft. I'll get back to the Sony. Now! This design decision was deliberate by Sony. Engineers and executives. The company used components manufactured by microprocessor company amd so under the hood. The PS four is similar to a typical personal computer, but during development it did have a more mysterious code name at least.

"To play, cooperatively are competitively online needed to pay. Pay for a subscription to xbox live playstation that work was advertised as being free of charge. You wouldn't have to pay extra for the services and that would allow for online play. However, when it launched the playstation that work had several features that only had limited support indicating that even at this stage, the online capabilities of the console were more of a reaction to Microsoft rather than A. Designed Sony Project and we're going to talk a lot more about the playstation network a little bit later in this episode, so one thing that was still going on even as late as two thousand seven. When Ken Kutaragi would leave. The company was that Sony was still producing the playstation two that console originally debuted way back in two thousand, the PS three came out in two thousand six and Sony would keep making the PS two until two thousand twelve, essentially, just before Sony would unveil the PS four. That's the point when manufacturing facilities finally stopped rolling off freshly. Freshly built PS two consoles from the assembly lines. So even as I wrap up the PS three story, we should keep in mind that the PS two's tail wasn't over yet. Either it kept going strong, and just because the PS three had a rocky start doesn't mean Sony would abandon that console quickly. Either Justice Sony had supported the original playstation and the PS two for a decade or longer, so to would support the PS three one thing I didn't touch on in the last episode has to do with people finding a good use for the cell processor. Processor. That's the processor that Sony to Sheba an IBM AKA STI developed together for the PS three specifically, and if you remember from my last episode about the playstation I mentioned Kutaragi intended the cell microprocessor architecture to serve as the foundation for lots of other Sony products well, that didn't really happen in a big way, but other groups found uses for the tech that went well outside the realm of video games. This is all about how researchers managed to Kluge together a network of playstation consoles to act as sort of cluster computer could perform calculations at such. Such a high rate that it was like having access to a genuine supercomputer and this idea wasn't a new one. Folks had tried doing it even back in the old PS. Two days with that consoles emotion engine processor Sony had released a kit that allowed developers to install Lennox. That's an operating system on the PS two for the purposes of coding, Games that meant that you could code lots of other stuff, too, and engineers at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications or NC, a tried to turn a bunch of PS two game systems into a computing cluster..

The kind of helpful fool thing that they do man yes you did favorite act it hanging on. Maybe you missed the word. No I just want to underline. That's the issue with Wiki leaks for me right. It's not so much that they're trying to share information is that they put people in danger. Embarrass people are victims by not redacting that information. They put out an all kinds of innocent personal. Communications would include people emailing them. Mums at work water talking about their cancer diagnosis employees like HR messages right. Yeah so if you had sent me a message for example. Complaining cleaning about Roberto's trousers that day. He would know right because he would see it. He could go to the go to the huge archive. And I'm on the habit of making trouser complaints. I'm sure if I had then yes that would now be up wikileaks right okay. So nightmare for everybody at Sony that had been impacted by this everybody. Everyone who's the you know the the amount servers do you want to hear about another slight problem. Yeah because another piece of data which God leaves. Oh Yeah I forgot got how big it was. I mean this was absolutely fantastic. If you will work in the tabloid press because every day there'd be some other revelation or tittle. TATTLE got to law element of this Sony pictures breach which would just feed the headlines once again but that the next one is security related because there were databases and spreadsheets which leaked out which contained. Pulse were dumps of their internal password. So they would have a little word document or whatever containing tainting the passwords for all of their different applications inside the it department just just for our listeners. Just know that even five years ago which can seem like a lifetime in technology space ace. It was still considered bad to put passwords into plain text into some database or to have a cat one two three. So we've been bagging on about that for a long time in the industry right so surprising. How many of Sony Pictures Servers and APPs were protected with the same password passwords? Like I've got them in front of me. Actually bubba seven. They used that one a few times. Banana one was very popular. They never changed it to banana to banana three handle and again. I don't know someone was really independents. A whole variety of password which are surprise surprise password honestly days of the week. But we've seen this. We've seen gene this by now. You're on my site now yes I am on your side tick tick tick people potentially Chan potentially of course this could have an impact millions of dollars while the gardens of peace the the hackers. Who did all this? They then began to leak movies movies which had not it yet been released thus potentially costing Sony hundreds of millions so what they were putting out the whole movie or just put it like putting you you could go and download movies. Someone down very to write love on her arms upset King titles any of course any little orphan annie so they must be making a remake of Annie and that was leaked by the hackers. have so this sounds to me like they are desperately. I'm trying to get Sony executive attention. What a pay off right that they want money? Why are they doing this? Are they just trying to torture them. Or is there a financial -sential play here well. This was the thing in the communications that have been released to date is wasn't really incredibly clear as to what these hackers were often now. No it did turn out because Wiki leaks and others had released the email archive that three days before the actual hack. Somebody had what's sent an email to Sony electives which they hit ignored saying something bad is about to happen and you're going to pay for it and we have the capability to destroy you. You've and cause all kinds of problems so okay. So did Sony Piss somebody off and here she or they decided okay. We're GONNA teach them a lesson and embarrassed. There's the effort of them clearly. This isn't a random attack. It sounds like someone is particularly upset. So it's not a ransomware play. No no no. It wasn't ransomware. They why did lock the computers and they did install a Chamoun which was wiping data from Sony systems as well but he didn't seem to be a traditional ransomware kind of play. It seemed that they might have some kind of motivation. And this is where things begin to get particularly ought okay because fingers fingers began to be pointed in the direction of hackers coming from North Korea. And why might North Korea haven't entrusting hacking Sony pictures no idea well the theory. That was maybe Kim Jong Il is a real fan of any right and he wanted to see the movie five me. "Actually bubba seven. They used that one a few times. Banana one was very popular. They never changed it to banana to banana three handle and again. I don't know someone was really independents. A whole variety of password which are surprise surprise password honestly days of the week. But we've seen this. We've seen gene this by now. We've seen it before but still it makes me want to Bang my head against the wall and safe and get this sake. Just when you're Astra Password. It just choose a better one. You generated inside of Piney ticket breath because it's unfair just because you live in the nucleus of Password and cybersecurity world ask. What do you understand about your car? Nah right even though you drive one and take it to get fixed and all that they tell you to do oil changes and stuff and I bet you never the yes. But this wasn't the head of marketing at Sony who was choosing these. This was the IT security team. The people. What they they didn't have any stops in place to stop people from choosing so the passwords that they had set up for people and they will keep a record of for real banana one? Wow Right now. You're on my site now yes I am on your side tick tick tick so people potentially Chan potentially of course this could have an impact millions of dollars while the gardens of peace the the hackers who did all this. They then began to leak movies movies which had not it yet been released thus potentially costing Sony hundreds of millions so what they were putting out the whole movie or just put it like putting you you could go and download movies. Live got littlest tend to be honest. I haven't heard of most of these Mr Turner Still Alice doesn't have were exciting. You've and cause all kinds of problems so okay so Sony piss somebody off and here she or they decided okay. We're GONNA teach them a lesson and embarrassed. There's the effort of them clearly. This isn't a random attack. It sounds like someone is particularly upset. So it's not a ransomware play. No no no. It wasn't ransomware. They why did lock the computers and they did install a Chamoun which was wiping data from Sony systems as well but he didn't seem to be a traditional ransomware kind of play..

"And the message was this time. Having a go at Sony Entertainment's it's chief executive officer a chap called Michael Lynton said he will surely go to hell and calling them criminals and say nobody can help you and so is your immediate reaction action must be personal or why is that unusual that they would go after a CEO like that. It feels a little bit to me. Don't you think well. Yeah I think so but you no more but these things because you re remember. Well I remember for instance when the Ashley Medicine breach happened. Yeah which felt a little bit personal as well okay. How sad the extortion? Message Against Ashley. Madison was sort of specifically targeting a few employees as well as claiming that they were destroying lives. It felt like it wasn't just a breach which was designed to make money or something like that. It was someone who really disliked the company and had a grudge against it. And if you start mentioning by name Chief Executive Officer of the company that you've hacked does begin to make you think we could this be an employee. Could this be someone of a grudge. Someone who's you know maybe met Tim Cocktail Party and throttle meadows. Don't know's going to be something with that again if I were an employer I got some kind of communication that mentioned that. CEO of my company. By name. I I would actually think it would make it more serious for me because a when you work in a company often an echo chamber in you think like you're the Naval Universe and your company in the CEO is really really important even. Yeah no no one really knows where they are right on one side but also it means they know a lot about us and they may have a lot more information. I mean it's easy to know who the CEO always slow to raise. Yeah it's not hard fun done. Yeah I would find that ravage you see and I think all good this rights to my first plane so you like rubbing your hands together. Now McLean popcorn. The microwaves spinning around spin the popcorn. Round okay well sauces at Sony. Pictures told the press that eleven terabytes of data had been stolen by the hand that communicated at that time that leaked that leaked out from Sony. Pictures Sony pictures themselves were only describing it as they were experienced a system disruption which they were working diligently to resolve but of course their the network really came to a halt the puck of rain so so when you're applicants they were so yeah so so they. They knew that something really bad had happened but they were trying to hold back before telling everybody because they didn't they didn't have a whole picture. Got Exactly I think when a hack I occurs when he first discovered. You don't know the whole picture and so so you can be quite nervous about what you say to the press until you know your facts because you don't necessarily want to say oh there's been a problem against one sub domain and one one hundred records were stolen if you then discovered at a much much bigger. That's a harder message to go out to the media unless you are forced by some kind of regulation Russian. You know to tell everybody I think a lot of companies with think fairy carefully before the announce it because you know it's really hard to the reputation right. It's it's hard shareholders. It's hard on stock prices yard and a lot of things you and your partner. Some people are doing business with you. I mean you literally company of this size I if you lose the day's work you are losing millions. Aren't you so most companies in this situation would be completely. STF You unless they were obligated to go forward. There'd be a tiny handful that would come forward board but they would be few and far shut the front umbrella. What what is that slimline? Exactly so within a couple of days however it became became very apparent that the hackers had stolen a significant amount of data from Sony pictures because some of it began to leak onto the Internet far so ask I remember that a bit..

"I'm great thanks. How are you not too bad? We don't have a guest this week to week but but we thought we would do something a little bit special. We thought we'd talk about one particular topic rather than having different topics. We don't have a guest especiall- yeah and we won't do pick pick the week. But we'll look back on a momentous period of cyber history our particular hacking incident and rummage through it it and see what comes out because it is the fifth anniversary that grows the fifth anniversary of Sony. Pictures Getting hacked. It's been in just about two weeks since word broke of cybercriminals hacking into Sony pictures and each day seems to bring more damaging embarrassing or worrisome. Revelations the hat when you first suggested doing this I was thinking. Oh let's bit lazy right doing a five year old hack but the thing is when attacks happen. You don't have the full picture at all. You're in crisis mode. If you're the one being attacked you're reacting to the press you reacting to your customers you reacting to the employees. You're trying to lock down systems and you have no idea where it's coming from or what it's doing or what they want you know. It's pretty high energy and in this particular case. It's a bit of a tangled tale as well. The big hack. It suddenly an interesting story. What would do is? We'll tell the story from the beginning more or less and that'll be really useful for me because as you know. I'm quick on my feet but I have a sieve for a memory. So you say I'm not quick on my feet say we've worked together before and No but you have a much better memory than me. I think that's why we work well together so you go through and I I actually what remember many things so I'm GONNA ask a lot of questions that's okay five years ago this week. Crow November the twenty fourth twenty fourteen. Just before American Thanksgiving holiday employees. Sony pictures went to work that Monday morning. They tend on the computers and they were greeted by an image. And the image was of this sort of Ghoulish Skeleton Leering at you out of the screen alongside a claim that the company's data had been stolen and would be released if undisclosed demands were not met and it claimed that the computer's has been hacked by a group could the G. O.. P. So okay. Can we pause for a second here so say this happens to average Joe shmoe employees. If you put yourself in their head not you think some of them are going to go. This is going to be an exciting day today. Oh yeah get the camera out. Screen shots posted on twitter. What's going on at Sony me today? You may well do that. That's right because because if it was happening in your house you'd be in full fledged panic mode. Oh yeah it would be horrible if it happened. I mean it's a bit like getting rent somewhere. I although ironically I think actually that would be a bit silly of employees to think that because obviously many people use work email and works to send private stuff true but you probably also I think all thank goodness. I won't be able to get to my email. I won't have for life. Yeah exactly busy. It's a bit like when it snows. A lot in school is closed stick. Apparently when people were arriving at their offices in London. This was a sign in the lift saying. Do not turn your computers on when you get to your desk and do not connect to the Wifi. Because they didn't career and look at the Walter White further instruction okay so everyone gets into panic right so the message said that they had been hacked by group called. Gop Not to be mixed extent with any other GOP who may be causing mischief. This was the guardians of the peace. And what do we know about them while this was the first time that we had heard heard of them but they also hacked a number of Sony twitter accounts it when they have a new movie to promote they quite often was set the twitter account specifically for the movie and it was those accounts which seemed to get hacksaw message again was displayed..

"In the a9 with sony lenses and the a9 was signal entous because the a9 with sony lenses like i said that order focuses like crack so if this is coming close to that but you're getting more affordability at of the sigma us and you get the sigma art look which is a slightly different look than the sony look may be is a little creamier um and that whole thing but it works with the autofocus system in the insane speed of autofocus you get out of sony that will be a really appealing combo and even if it's not quite there anytime you're adding more choice to a platform i think that's good for everybody so do you think that will see the a9 dhs to focus in the asem and three whenever it comes out so i asked sony about that uh when i was at the thing i was like oh my god are we can have this to focus me at seven s and they said because of the sacrifices they make to make these have in a so good in low light um the feature like it's sensor level technology that drives the ought to focus on sony and so the sensor in the a9 is never going to be the center in the seven s because they need that low light which is what filmmakers love 'cause still photographers are not as low at obsessed because they can always do a longer exposure but since we gotta shoot 24 for him to second they're not a like we need that low light ability we need the highest seo in the sensor more than still photos do um which means that the sensor design is a little different and the sony rap who's a super nice guy uh at the event last year was saying the autofocus tech is going to improve in the seven three but it will probably still not be quite a nine level.
