Antone brings heat in push for Cincinnati Reds' rotation

"Reds played tonight and three hours against the kansas city. Royals perhaps not with these same amount of excitement as the night before her. Green and nikola delo pitched tj anton in relief last night against the dodgers and again that ended with a four four tie. I will admit to you. I get the purpose behind the rule that a team on defense can roll the inning over and basically ended prematurely as a fan. That's not much fun. Tony larussa has said as much. Tony larussa and i are on the same page about anything. That's saying something but above and beyond the outcome of the game which obviously doesn't matter. Tj antone pitch last night and he was phenomenal two innings. His fastball was ninety. Seven ninety eight ninety nine killer slider filthy curve five strikeouts two innings gave up. Just a hit. This is a guy who was a bit of a revelation. Last year made his major league debut with the reds early in the season started. Four games came in and relief and nine others and did a really really nice job. Here's david bell on what he liked from. Tj last night looks very lockton. Yeah maybe could've been the best basketball. I've seen include. Let's santa law so good last year. But his fastball of really good is everyone which means it just locked in a totally kind of grown accustomed to tj being very focused and determined so even those beverly in the spring doesn't surprise me at perching david bell last night talking about t j anto. I don't wanna make too much out of one. Spring training outing the didn't count. There is a lot of foolishness and doing that. But he is a part of a mix of guys who will ultimately answer one of the critical questions about the reds this spring. Which is who's gonna make up the back into the rotation right and even if he doesn't end up as a starter he could be a valuable member of a bullpen. that said goodbye to two quality. Relievers this offseason and rice laziest and archie bradley. But what role will tj antone bien after a good two thousand twenty. Here he is and what role he would like to be. Yeah i wanna start but wherever those. Tv's all right. Good short concise. It's the right answer. You don't get the sense just listening to that that he's going to be upset if he's not a starting pitcher but that is what he's been for most of his professional career one hundred and eleven appearances in the minor leagues one hundred and nine as a starter with different levels of success. I don't think there was anything about just looking. At his minor league statistical profile that would have suggested that he would emerge last. Year is valuable arm but he was. Era to eighty again pitched started four games when needed member wade. Miley had to miss some time. Sonny gray mr starr disc- he came out of the bullpen. Nine times and did a nice job. He'd really did a nice job last year. So now the question is does he factor into the mix a little bit more in the race to be the last starter.

Rush Limbaugh, conservative radio titan, dies of lung cancer at age 70

"One of the most dominant figures in talk radio in an architect of the conservative media movement. Rush limbaugh passed away aged seventy from lung complications lung cancer complications. There's been an outpouring of tributes along with a lot of criticism of his decades of controversial comments. So the question is how will you remember my start with joy. Well i did work. I worked at a radio station in. Nineteen ninety-one ish around that time. Wabc radio and he. I came on at ten. I believe and then he was on at eleven o'clock so i was engaged with him quite a bit in those days over the years. He's called me more bihar. Which i thought was interesting. I guess he was saying that. I was like b arthur in the in the show. Maude who was a raging liberal. I presume that's what he meant. And i consider that a badge of honor to be compared to maud. But it's interesting. I worked with him. I worked i've interviewed ann. Coulter many times Janine pirro has been on the view trump has been on the view. I went to his wedding for marla You know these people have gone through some kind of metamorphosis of of weirdness over the years and i was getting used to come on the show. She was actually fun. Ann coulter is basically. I consider her a comedian. I don't even consider her a pundit and we all know what trump was like before you know he was a democrat. So what's what happened to them. And i answer is money. Money is what happened to them. They have thrown at so much money at them at fox for example and various places that they could not resist the money so they go on the air and they spew their hatred their prejudices their lies as rush limbaugh for the almighty dollar and they fool americans into believing that they are authentic authentic. I know these people. They're not real right. So sonny what do you think his legacy will be. Well i been listening to to everyone. Eulogizing rush limbaugh. And i remember listening to him as a kid growing up and for me. He just normalized Hatred he normalized racism. And you know. I think he really weaponized. White male grievance and you know he sort of hard in these rural white listeners people sitting in their trucks and in the middle of america and in the south and listening to rush limbaugh and this is someone who called our president barack. The magic negro. This is someone who talked about an nfl football game as a gang match between the bloods and crips. This is someone who made fun of michael. J. fox's a parkinson's disease this is someone who likened a thirteen year old chelsea clinton to a dog. You know this wasn't someone who Was a nice person. This is someone that spewed racism and hatred yet. He is now considered. I guess the most influence the an influential person and building the modern republican party and conservatism. A to me. That's not something to be proud of. I mean how is that. A reflection of conservative values i thought conservatism was about small government and family values and if family values is making fun of black people and a child and a disease. I don't know where the the republican party is. I think his legacy is that he paved the way again for the modern republican party and trump is

How To Respect Your Kids

"You also urge parents to respect their kids some parents. This is huge. Because i think this is the relational breaking point when a parent can't developer chooses not to develop respect and there's maybe some good rationalization right if you if you saw the way. My child does not clean. His room does not do these things. I expect him. You wouldn't respect them either so speak to me. Is that dad with that attitude. Well absolutely so we like to say relative to the marriage relationship if if a man isn't respecting his wife he's in the process of destroying his marriage in. It's absolutely the same in with your kids. Don't learn to respect your kids. you're actually creating distance. And i wanna tell them myself so. We had a men's meeting yesterday morning in our church and my the older sons that are at home attend and we were going around offering prayer requests. But i've got we've got this. One is pretty stoic. Doesn't say much of anything. But he's a very loving child but he's just not very communicative. And i turned him and i said hey sonny he got something you wanna share anyway. I put them on the spot he. He's eighteen hundred nineteen. But i put him on the spot in front of all the other men the next morning we had a conversation and he said down. I didn't feel respected by you In that moment. And that's interesting and and so. That's the last thing i want. My kids to think is that. I don't respect them so i got to apologize to him. And ask forgiveness and so But it's it's super-critical to especially we're talking about those intervening years where they're transitioning to adulthood. They're gonna make a ton of mistakes and remember how perfect you were as a parent at that age number. How far along you were right. And so we shouldn't expect our kids to encounter life and respond to it as we do as mature adults. Yeah le- let me ask you real practical. What is that respect. Look like what. I mean again i could. I could easily fall into the same trap that you had. Because i'm trying to pull him out. I think i'm doing something good. I say to him. Hey do you have anything in front of everybody else. And maybe he'll step up and have the courage that i'm helping to develop To say something in front of a or ten twelve other guys so how do you matt. What is respect towards your kids. What does it look like. What are those things that we should the first the first thing that we would tell our kids you. You don't get respect because you walked in the room. You get respect because you earned it okay. So when they respond to maybe a large job that they're given when they're faithful with chores that they've had and damned out. They take care of him when they do really well on their schooling because they've applied themselves and they've studied and they've worked hard and achieve something that those are all moments big and small and and if it's a toddler and he said take the cup and put it in the kitchen you know you affirm him in that but telling your sons the word seat we all have these deep wonderful feelings for our kids right but they're not worth anything if we don't actually communicate to them those deep wonderful feelings so personally. I'm looking for opportunities all the time And if it's a specific compliment or if it's just a an analysis that one of the kids made of some news story they saw uh-huh. I'm affirming that i see some man i really respect. Tell you think. I really really love the way your brain works just looking for opportunities to give respect and one of the ways to give respect to. Your kids is to stay out of the way of their sometimes good and sometimes bad decisions.

It's it's a major concern dr keith. Norris's among an army of people ramping up efforts to ensure latinos african americans and other people colored. Trust the vaccine. He's hearing a wide range of concerns. Many stemming from a long history of racism in medical research concerned about being a guinea pig concerns about pharma and federal government. And then there's lots of social media messaging downplaying the importance of coronavirus. Norris works for ucla and is leading california effort funded by the national institutes of health to build vaccine trust. The strategy is to get clear. Concise information to black and brown communities with help from so-called trusted gers people with existing relationships in communities with high covid risk. People like tony. Wafer a longtime los angeles-based hiv educator in may he lost five close family members to covid. He's talked about that a lot as he's encouraged black friends and neighbors to volunteer for vaccine trials and now to take the vaccine is hard to say. Get getting this trial and these were people gonna help you win. These are the same white. Have been kicking your ass alway. You know what i mean. He says he acknowledges people's skepticism and meets them where they are. I tell people what are you. Won't they say well. I'm all blood pressure medicine. I'm taking central cholesterol. So you know before you've taken that pill clunk child out of thin air then they go really yeah. It was the clinical shelters. Ucla's keith. norris says this outreach. We'll take many forms in person on the airwaves and in virtual town halls. He says researchers will track. What messages about the vaccine. People respond to to see if there are certain areas that tend to have a greater impact moving people from being reticent to being willing. I'm not gonna go. Set is with sonny seattle health san diego clinic that serves a large mexican and mexican. American population fears about vaccine. Safety are compounded by language issues and concerns about immigration status. The clinic trained community outreach workers to answer questions about the vaccine the reason why this is working is because people are not relying on a government entity posed information especially due to the last four years. People rather i hear from someone that they already have a relationship with. Jobs have lost friends and family. Don't wanna see anyone else. Any other loved one. Have to go through that for these people. Houston, Wet Wednesday, A few strong storms possible throughout the day

"To check in with Terry Smith. All right, Terry kind of a wet day. I doesn't look like it's coming in all day rain, but at some point I'm just about everybody around here is going to get wet, aren't they? Yeah, I think we're just about everybody's going to see celebrate. Today. We've got this. It's a very slow moving cold front that's making its way. Toward us and a very strong flow of moisture off the Gulf of Mexico. So it's the perfect combination not only for rain, but there's this slight risk of a strong maybe even severe storms today may concern being Some gusty winds with some of those storms. But there's even a slight risk of a tornado. So it's something we'll be keeping an eye on through the day. Mainly just be ready for the rain temperatures today in the mid sixties to low seventies Still, some scattered showers around this evening will dry out late tonight. Now, some cooler, drier air shows up tomorrow and Friday were Sonny. With high temperatures tomorrow and Friday in the mid to upper fifties. It does get warmer, though over the weekend the weekend stride with plenty of sunshine and highs in the low to mid sixties. Saturday and Sunday.

"The streets us meaning very possible. Yes yup yup and my friends is gonna take us into genocide of epic proportions epic proportions. I'm talking for generations to be remembered and people will seek revenge. People seek to even the score people. His other choice is the one that you mentioned. Jeff and and i hate the toilet of. Us limited on the streets possibly for months to come. If he doesn't do that the sick -tarian ism will become almost genetic fucking level for generations to come out with no no choices so pilot ship or pile of diarrhea. Which will you want. Sonny sonny sonny in our last conversation now. Here's here's the important part. Is that you know. We spoke about civil war and we spoke about global war. And you were very clear to say that america can survive and come back from civil war but the world does not come back from global war right so and i agree with you on that stance so look. I think. There's three million over three million veterans who are ready to go to work if we have to look. I'm i'm just a dumb caveman. I know how to operate a gun. I know the dangerous. And and i know the states i know i can shoot okay and i know that i'm a fighter at heart. I don't want this to come to this but if it does i'd prefer civil war over global war right absolutely i. I'm with you on that because look if if if biden's administration becomes a reality i'll tell you things that are going to be happening. We're going be full force back in syria. We're gonna buy a full voice openly and not not in some kind of a small scale but on the scale supporting new ukrainian government do to resolve the issue with the eastern ukraine jerk. Buddy that draws a so close to irreversible on the global scale that. It's not even funny right when it doesn't even have to be mutually exclusive right. We could still have civil war and global war. It's not like you know we might have one without the other we can easily and that's what people are saying that the racial war the civil war that we're seeing is gonna merge into a larger class warfare in someone who's very familiar with communism and socialism. What are your thoughts again. You know what i think. Actually the class warfare is a point has been excluded as a as a manifestation of what's going on class warfare for right now is basically is just the fucking demagoguery is just people yeah. We have very very quickly within a few months..

We're celebrating the ninetieth birthday of Tenor Saxophonist Sonny Rollins by listening back to an interview from our archive recorded in nineteen ninety four. Rollins who has not performed in public since twenty twelve is regarded as one of the greatest improvisers in the history of Jazz. When we left off, we were talking about how heroin was part of the jazz scene when rollins was starting out as a teenager and how he started using. It must have been your parents worth nightmare when you entered the jazz world and then started using Oh yeah. Oh. Yeah. Well, you know my mother was pretty since I was a baby my mother really. She's stuck by me regardless of what I did see what is really In my corner but I had a lot of problems from the rest of my family, my father, my grandmother. really were pretty down on me and the and my siblings. They didn't really understand where I was coming from anyway so but. I have to say that my mother really. Believed in me all the way and I'm really happy that I was able to get myself together. Before she left the scene. So she kinda saw me make start to make wreckage and so unlike black bats site sort of made her. Feel that It just wasn't exactly all in vain. You know were you ever arrested Oh? Yeah. Oh. Yeah. Resurrect soon. Fortunately I had to. Get involved with the justice system and all of this stuff you know, but I was always lucky because. I was able to get involved with me programs in prison right? And in those days, there were other. Musicians there you know so. Did, it scare you when you imprison yourself, what? What, what, what am I doing here? Yeah. It scared me a lot. It scared me. Ludd but again, I was lucky because I could play an instrument and and. A lot of the other prisoners new of May. So I immediately had respect from them. But of course you know being locked up is is is no is no joy reid. How did you straighten out? Well It took a little while but I slid back a couple of times and everything. But I eventually had gotten down to the complete bottom. So I couldn't have gotten any worse. You know I mean I was really in in complete What was the bottom while the bottom was was sleeping in Park cars and in garages knowledge stuff. And what we used to call in those days carrying the stick. Carrying this. Meant that you were homeless I. Guess Today they would just say guys homeless. But I did this mainly when when when I was in Chicago. Chicago is was where I sort of. Reside there on my own in New York even though I was. Persona non grata at home I always perhaps Get by Sneak into house at something but when I was really away from from home I really. Had, to Pay. A lot of dues as we used to say, how would you protect your horn during the periods when you're homeless role in protect my haunt I mean i. Didn't have a Hawn really. Will you barring other people's Brian Other People's Yeah. What did you learn about yourself during that period? Well. What I learned about myself well, I learned that I had the strength to. Get over something which was really Deep. and. I think one of the things that I'm always always feel good about myself was that I was able to. Overcome. That because I really had to struggle, you know when I came came away from the hospital when chime and I went back to the nightclub, it was really the classic scene of the old jug pushes standing there saying come on man come on you know and this is good and I really went through the classic scene of getting myself. You know saying well, Gee, if I go with them wouldn't be so bad it's just one time and Maybe. I should do it and. Why not and this, and then the other part of me saying no, don't do it. You know I mean the real classic. Battle between good and evil right and wrong whatever you WANNA call it. but anyway I one out. And that's one one thing that I really feel good about myself. You know I really went into the lion's den. And came out alive, and then after that, it increasingly got easier and easier. To say no to Jugs, which which really had a debilitating. Thing for people that do. Once you found that strength and knew that you had it. How else will you able to use it in your life? Well. Then I felt I could do anything you know and And I could get back to what I really wanted to do, which is my Music how does that strengthen your music? Well, I don't know I. Think Actually I think I always had Had strengthened my music even when I was a kid and I used to. Practice for hours and hours and hours at a time I mean I I always had something within myself which. Enabled me to be alone and play and get into what I'm doing and not. Think about anything else in really get into stuff myself so. Actually, by getting rid of these negative elements averages.

"Sonny Sonny they're they're Geraldine. Why don't we go sit down or get you some tea? No I need to see him. I need to know know what Geraldine Sunny. Happen to you sunny. Can you tell me what happened to you? Do Oh dear. Come on now. Geraldine Geraldine had voiced. A thought several had begun to express. Sonny's death was undeniably strange. It came out of nowhere. Suicide seemed unlikely as he was making plans for his future and noted by all around him to be in good spirits. The overdose theory seem suspicious as well as the only drugs that had been found in the house after his death might well have been planted. There seemed to be a very real possibility that Sonny's death occurred via unnatural circumstances bought on January nineteenth nineteen seventy-one. The corner published his report. It is my conclusion from my findings. That Sonny Liston died of natural causes. A poor supply of oxygen to the heart led to congestive heart failure. Something perfectly reasonable for a man of his age. I also found traces of morphine and coding in his system. But not enough to have killed a man of his size thus they have no importance in determining the cause of his death. Police quickly wrapped up their investigation concluding that there was no foul play involved in. Sonny's death they issued a statement saying much and that because he was a known heroin addict his death was likely the unfortunate result of an overdose. But many of Sonny's friends had a problem with this. They claimed vehemently that Sonny was afraid of. Needles and this claim was substantiated. Not only by one or two people. But by a whole slew of the late boxers acquaintances. It was confirmed by his dentist. Who had trouble doing dental work on sunny because the boxer was too squeamish for administering anesthesia? It was confirmed by Sonny's friend. Dave Pearl the same Davey Pearl. He'd had breakfast with shortly before his death who knew him intimately. It was also confirmed by father. Edward Patrick Murphy. Who had known sunny for a good portion of his life and had performed his funeral service. But it was most tangibly confirmed by Sonny's former trainer Willie Reddish who said that Sonny had actually cancelled a planned tour of Africa to avoid getting the necessary. Vaccinations if Sonny was afraid of needles heroin would have been tough drug of choice for him. There are other ways of taking heroin. But in order for a dose to become lethal it would generally have to be taken intravenously. Sonny's friends were not convinced that sunny died of a heroin overdose and they certainly did not buy that. His death was from natural causes and they had good cause to think so. If sunny wasn't injecting heroin into his veins that rules out the possibility that his death was an overdose. Which meant that someone in Las Vegas new something? They weren't sharing something that suggested that Sonny liston death was really a murder..

"It's a time in a quiet place to start by answering some introspective questions and focusing on self awareness. What opportunities have I accepted bid? Fire me up. Am I taking anything or anyone for granted. What goals of I said? Am I achieving those goals. When did I last push the boundaries and step out of my comfort zone? Do I have control over my life or am I letting things stress me out that I don't control then allow yourself to zoom out dig a little deeper and tap into what matters most. How do I define success? What values I use music to me? And what experiences have made them so important. Are there any relationships that I want to repair improve. Where do I find my support? And have I express my gratitude to those supporters. What are three amazing achievements that I've had in the past year? There's an old saying that. Echoes Sonny's point about acknowledging the good and the bad the saying goes without rain or the chill of the wind. You can't appreciate the warmth of the Sun getting to the right answers takes time. But once you've taken account of the good and the bad you can determine what influenced your perceptions your core values and your circle of trust with Out The filter of bias. Which makes me think of the expression without rain? Nothing grows when I think about where authentic internal and external gratitude converge. I can't help but feel that one can't occur without the other. There's an interwoven. Reliance there if you're working to appreciate more of Your Life's journey you're going to naturally find people and things you'll feel a need to express gratitude toward and if you're taking the time to say thank you to others for their work the ways they make you feel deal or how they had your back you're going to end up. Fostering greater internal gratitude so it's circular in. Its own way what I find. Most amazing thing about these cycles of gratitude is how they naval our capacity to enrich the lives of others. I think this is because it's natural to want to share the positive feelings that stem stem from gratitude. It's as if when you feel appreciative. You WanNa share that feeling with others so you give what you can to enrich their lives and pay those. Those feelings forward Sonny briefly brought up the example of mentorship but there are countless ways. You can pay it forward. The great news is that there's really no wrong way to pay it forward. What matters is that your genuine and the way you want to give back and the action is kind and grounded in making a positive impact on the world that aligns closely with the Hebrew concept called to coon along which you can look forward to hearing more about.

O. a dot com and you can send your questions and if they don't stop me I'll try to answer on the air but if I don't answer that I will use. it's too hard other when it bears myself on the radio I want to do that okay next I think we'll talk about this week is as you know as I mentioned we work primarily with the people who are retired or retiring soon and we believe that taking losses. is one of the most dangerous things that someone who's retired can experience and so what can cause you to experience losses well bear markets is one of the biggest things that can do that to you and so if you're invested in in the market so we want to we want to address that and we have I wrote a book called by hold and sell okay and in case you're wondering and in it I described the various myths that I think are associated with buy and hold which is the notion that you buy a diversified portfolio of quality investments and you re balance it and then your job done and you go to somewhere he said a hammock and you sent it to a new set of mint juleps okay and you're not well that's not the case and so by old myth number one in my view is the market always comes back so you don't have to worry about it just close your eyes don't don't think about it and it all take care of itself and everything will be fine so just by hold forever and I'm at the bank that one for you because I think that is one of the most dangerous mess of all of them and it's been sold to a lot of people it as if that I've seen so I want you not to fall for that one if I can help now you know what Jack most shows would stop right there most does say you know what if we did just that we've done more than our listening audience could possibly want from a financial show..
