"How does ice determined bail? That's what I was. I was hoping you two could figure that out. It has to do with detainers. Here's what Here's how it used to work. If ice wanted somebody for any reason, if they had a criminal case against them, or they just wanted to put them into deportation. They would do what we called lodging a detainer and it's basically Hey, county jail. You've got this guy. Do not let him out until we come get him. All right. So what would happen is people would be totally done with their sentences and still sitting in jail, waiting for ice to come get him that was finally ruled to be unconstitutional. You can't incarcerate people. When there's no probable cause of the crime or whatever. So the bait is kind of bail. Part is really secondary to the fact that what was happening as people were being held past their time. That stopped. I I I think that we would lose lady. I would just lost way and Wayne. We just lost you. By the way. The lawsuit was filed back in 2012. This was under Sheriff Lee Baca. So this is this money is going to go, Teo. People clear back then, almost 20 years. I mean, sorry, almost 10 years. All right, Wayne. Let's see if I You're We're waiting. Him. He's trying to figure out we have a glitch. Glitch glitch. All right, why don't you go ahead? And while we're waiting for Wayne, all right, it looks like we now may know Or we may have a cause for the bobcat fire. This's the one that started in Azusa and has burned more than 115,000 acres. I wanted to talk about that situation yet again, if we're going to start looking at polling in order to determine what our leaders do in government you have to put your trust in someone in trying to figure out. What is the best course of action as it relates to moving forward? It's why I have the opinion poll it says if law enforcement supports the border wall would that influence your position on border wall. Sixty three percent of the respondents say yes, I mean, when you when you're in this business as long as any number of us have been in you, many of us have been down to the the border many of us have met with the cbp officers. I think it was icy and we met with law enforcement leaders around the around the country, and we sat in this room. And we're talking about our number one challenge and sheriff Lee was a sheriff then he got ill. So I went in his place and sat and listened. I was shocked that even that far back that the number one issue was immigration. The number one issue was the center law cartels. The number one issue was MS thirteen. The number one issue was the impact. They were having on their communities from a crime perspective and sat there, and it's like we didn't have that. Here. We really did. We didn't have that experience. And I was completely blown away that Richmond Virginia. I'll never forget the police chief there standing up and talking about the challenges that he was having a like Richmond Virginia how many Americans have even been to Richmond Virginia and couldn't figure out what the draw was to Richmond Virginia that they'd be having this big issue. Ultimately learned that human trafficking handgun trafficking in other in other up and down the eastern seaboard that Richmond was like Connor right in the middle of it all and it was a big issue for them. And I could just go state by state by state that had leaders there. There was not a single law enforcement leader other than myself that said something different than immigration, and I was completely shocked. Let's go to add online one. What say you at? Yeah. I know thanks for taking my call. Thanks for calling. I was listening to last caller, and it's obvious that person's politics definitely impacts. How you feel about this whole issue? However, a recent Harris Harvard poll indicated that sixty one percent of the respondents, which is a large number and by both parties support the president immigration policy, including the construction of a wall or barrier. Whatever you wanna call it. You're absolutely right about strategic leadership and five billion dollars in the scope of the federal budget is nearly pencil. And I can't believe that we're fighting over something. So valuable a famous economists said you can't have open borders and a welfare state at the same time. You just can't afford it. "This same taste and music and a of enjoyed listening to you and to wwl for so many years kobaa i'm just on i'm thrilled that you're not only gonna be on before me patino are also going be shaken office absolutely i figured you would have something in your contractor biden's there's no way of showing in office with that guy is it going to be difficult at times for you to honestly talk about the jefferson parish sheriff's department and the behavior of of deputies me because sometimes people make mistakes and sometimes things don't go smoothly as you would like them to go is that gonna be tough for you no not really i mean i think the reality is is that you always have to be true to the message and that's what i always tried to be a sheriff we're not perfect we we are fallible were not robots we make mistakes if you make a mistake of the heart were you intended to do the the right thing in it head ugly outcomes that's one thing when you knowingly and intentionally make a mistake at the head and and you you do something wrong that something else of called that out within my department as a leader that organization for a number of years and i've been really in the thick of this since 1995 when uh became the chief criminal deputy you're recall that i actually ran for sheriff 95 when when sheriff lee had decided to run for governor so is something whereas sat in the chair that's making these decisions day in and day out out and i think i'll be able to give an insight that most people can't give no question about that and in in the news today this just came across associated press before i came in the studio and minneapolis police officer who fatally shot australian woman in minneapolis has now been been given the right to have an authorized store he's gone unauthorized gofundme me out page the point is is that when when there are police shootings when something like this happens you're going to be a great source of information i hope so that i could bring a different perspective i obviously would want to be true as it relates.
