Deshaun Watson endorses Houston Texans' potential Antonio Brown pursuit, even if the franchise hasn't shown interest

"Brown now, so there was some videos of him working out with Russell Wilson earlier this offseason. We've seen Antonio Brown working out with Lamar Jackson. Now to the Texans, maybe have some interest. We know their quarterback DeShaun Watson looks interested. Shawn Watson responded to a tweet from former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson. And what Shad Johnson tweeted a B to the Texans would like a prayer. Emoji link, I guess praying it happens. And this John Watson's tweet was basically a Mame of you know, Drake looking like, Really, I'm intrigued. I got intrigued type of look. Here's the reality. But the Texan sign Antonio Brown, then shame on Bill O'Brien. You cannot justify signing a bee in the same off season that you shipped away DeAndre Hopkins for nothing for David Johnson's contract in a second round pick, You cannot trade away the game's best wide receiver and then bring in a guy like Antonio Brown. Who is a locker room cancer. You can't do it. You can't justify it. Let's ignore the off the field stuff with a B and the suspension that's likely coming to the guy. Let's just talk about what he did the last year and 1/2. From alienating himself in Pittsburgh and missing a winner Go home Week 17 game. You then going to the Raiders and hurting himself by freezing his foot off. So then having an issue with the NFL helmet rule. To getting into with Mike. May I threatening to punch the guy? You secretly recording Jon Gruden. And then releasing a video after the Raiders finally released him and maybe be like I'm free. I'm free as it playing for the Raiders, making $15 million was, you know being kept in, you know. Unlivable conditions that Antonio Brown was in such a terrible life situation. He's finally free. That's what you get on the field, or, I guess technically off the field with the Raiders last year. We all know about the alleged crimes, and this guy has committed the lawsuit she's dealing with, so he's facing a suspension and you're the Texans and you're going to sign Antonio Brown Anthea traded away, arguably the game's best wide receiver. Who has never been and off the field malcontent who has always done the right thing in the Houston community, You can't sell Texans fans on Antonio Brown. If you traded away, DeAndre Hopkins, you just can't do it. Why would you trade away Hopkins to take a chance on Abie, who's facing a suspension? And we all know at some point Something's going to go wrong because it always goes wrong. For Antonio Brown. I mean, you cannot At any under any circumstance signed this guy. When everything we've heard from Bill O'Brien is he wants character guys, Bill O'Brien's cliche lines in every press conference. I've been out with him smart, dependable, reliable, tough football players. That's what we want. Antonio Brown is the opposite of every trade Bill O'Brien says he wants to be the biggest hypocrite. GM Bill O'Brien signs Antonio Brown. You can't do it. You just can't I don't care. Baby wants to play for nothing that sends the wrong message to the entire locker room. You traded DeAndre Hopkins. You gotta live with that. You deal with brains and cooks. You have will fuller Let's go figure it out. Yeah. Kenny Stills, Kiki cuties motivated to come back and play well in his third season. You made your bed now you gotta lie in it. Bring in Antonio Brown when there's going to be a condensed training camp. You think this guy's gonna follow social distancing guidelines? No shot Antonio Brown. We had every strip club in Houston by week three. It's called for what it is. He's the last guy the Texans need right now. That's the type of signing that alienated the entire locker room.

"So you know, although I know, But what do you picturing 80 going on a scuba trip, then LeBron being 80. Let me borrow that. He's like No, no bronze can't know shit on and about the doubles Ping pong. Are they going to move the free throw line to the three point line so that everybody's 16 away when the rebound needs to be picked up, Dude, it's the most ridiculous thing, but I get it. It's They're put in place because it it sounds nice. Well, it sounds nice. And let's talk to the NFL, which I think is the biggest culprit here of hypocrisy and the most ridiculous rule here. Yet the No Jersey swamps and everyone's like no Jersey swaps. They're breathing on top. Each other there haven't pylons there, you know, Slap anus. They're high fiving. They're all around in the dirt together The Jersey swaps. How is that even an issue at that point again, the sport covering their butts and the way they describe it is it's just one more unnecessary risk. So if you can cut out any risk that's really the thinking behind it, although I've only seen that conversation sick, although it makes no sense at all at all. What? What? The Shawn Watson. I'm trying to look it up right now. He just simply said, like one word. You remember that? I want to remember. I don't read at the gate. What did he say? It was just straight up. Foolish is a vote that he wrote. It is it is, But you know, as a fan, it doesn't affect me whatsoever. I don't care if Watson's swapping jerseys that's all that's on them. As a fan. I just want to see the game. I don't care if they're not allowed to do that, or not. The shot, Watson said. Damn silly, his teammate, wide receiver Randall Cobb said. You know, it's got to be a joke, and Richard chairman from my San Francisco 40 Niners, said, it seems like the NFL's just thinking In a nutshell. It's not bigger thinking. It's like you're breathing. You're breathing on each other. You're breathing on each other, the largest Ramesh local contact Giving it would be like you have a tickle fight with all your buddies because I know you like to do that. Yeah. Okay. You know you want your bro's having a big casino, tickle fights and then and then saying Hey, you can't shake hands. Good bye at the end. These guys are on top of each other. Second, the quarterback loose balls pylons grab in Jersey. You could grab a jersey and it's ah, You know it's holding or pass interference. But you can't hand someone your jersey after the game. It's I don't that make zero so foolish I agree with wasn't but you know, you made me think of something else completely. Not related, but I have to throw it out there that rules that just vibe with me as a kid growing up. I remember I'd have like a neighborhood kid. Step into my home feel that I'm in the middle of a whiffle ball game, right? In my own home field, And you have your own home rules. Right? This is your lawn, Your driveway, Your rules. And I remember like certain kids, they would see the movement. I had my curveball like, Who is this? Master? Don And how does he do that? They would try to put their own rules on my case. All right, We're going to play six innings. No curveballs. Like what? No curveballs. But this's whiffle ball when you're talking about, But that is where the friendship ended. Like, I don't know if you ever again but that was just your way. Was that your way? Don't let the ESPN audience know that you have a good Wiffle ball crying, you know? Oh, yes. Yes, I think that's what it was. I think that's what made my mind. Go back many years ago and think about it like that. That role made no sense to me. I make weight. You're on my court. You're on my field, and this is whiffle ball. Dude, you're going to call out no curveballs like you could do that. And people used to do that video games Growing up. You give me what about what about this community in the world of Major League baseball, which we hope is starting up again. As scheduled. It looks like we're good to go. But no spitting now. Do you remember that classic scene in the movie naked Gun? That was a scene. I thought we had actual footage. We do. Just take a listen if you remember the scene from naked gun Maybe we don't have the same for me. All right. How about we could improvise it, But it's just part of the game. So, Teo say no spitting. I get it right, because again additional unnecessary risk. But it's gonna happen because it's just such a part of it and and they're going to do it by accident. It's just gonna happen. It's already happening. My favorite one is you can't argue within Six feet of the umpire. Which means if you're if you're in the batter's box, and you look back, and you're like, Yeah, that was a strike You then have to back before you yell the empire. You have to then space yourself before you yell, but you can't argue with it. Six feet, But you're standing two feet from the catcher and the empire. That's another ridiculous one there. You know what? Ah! This has become a big thing. As as the teams were getting ready for the baseball season. They talked to Ah, Kevin Smith from the Tampa Bay Rays on game night about players spitting and this is what he said. Have you seen anyone on your team? Spit the whole time that you got a call out one guy myself, But I mean, I'm telling you is One of the hardest things not to do. I mean, that is something that I'm consistently doing because I'm a catcher. So I'm getting dirt in the face, You know, sweating in my mouth. I mean, it's Ah, It's certainly going to be a habit that you really gotta think about not to do but just One of the many things we have to follow.

Patriots sign QB Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady

"Tonight I think it's exciting to see what Newton can do a healthy Newton with Josh McDaniels and bill ballot check in this offense sieve juggernauts if you well and remember McDaniels they run a very innovative offense that Matt Werner ram mentioned it last hour in twenty ten they draft Gronk Aaron Hernandez they go to that too tight and sat before everybody else they have in the NFL did then it's copy cats city they hurried up shortly thereafter before chip Kelly was even hired by the eagles and now that's commonplace and this new read option type offense the Newton is a master of the patriots haven't done it given Tom Brady's obvious limitations in that category so this picture offense last year was a boring offense to watch it was a slog it was a struggle it wasn't exciting it was the first time where if you're a patriots fan you looked wistfully at the other teams and said why why can't we have Josh Allen yeah there is a ton of pics but always teases interesting to watch why why can't we have Lamar Jackson Pat Mahomes Ryan Tannehill why why can't we have to Shawn Watson why can't we have a quarterback who can move a little bit who can do more than the ball on the territory a five yard screen pass to a double covered Julian Edelman why well healthy cam Newton gives the patriots a more dynamic offensive attack I mean let's face it this was not a very good offense with Tom Brady especially in the second half of last season I think that there is that thirsty to try something new in belt check the is a really smart guy and smart people want new challenges and I think him new night I think introducing that element of offense which is going to come anyway because Jarrett Stidham is more mobile too so either way the patriots were gonna introduce more of that read option modern type NFL offense but and I think that excite spell check and probably excites McDaniels and in terms of where they're going as a running a running based offense Newton obviously is far more dynamic in that category the Brady too and if Sony Michelle returns to form a franchise and left guard this offseason me not to the patriots about their starting center David Andrews back healthy and they have three guys who can now play full back including two players who they drafted this year that's clearly the direction the patriots are moving find a really good and versatile defense and I Bella check as one league does this as the week goes this way Belichick is going that way and that you see that the roster construction of this team and I can even help

Fresh update on "shawn watson" discussed on Ken Broo

"Other people were dying and having horrible health issues and they want full steam ahead. Same thing with the draft. You know, it didn't matter that Roger Goodell had to do it from his engagement. They just went ahead and went through with it. Now I think it's getting a little more complicated because you're having to involve the NFLPA, and they should make sure that the players side is okay with everything but Unless something horrible happened like you said, and we start having players die. I think the NFL is probably going to go through with a face, so it's not just the owners that they want the money. It's the players too realistically. There's a lot of money on the tables. I don't think either side wants to walk away from that. We're chatting with Dallas Robinson. Pro football rumors dot com about training camps supposedly opening up here two weeks from Tuesday. I want to touch on Patrick Mahomes deal. We all know when it was in If you follow the NFL, you know that. What do you see? Thiss 10 year, $503 million or whatever it is 505 103. It's really it's really whatever Hey, gets in bonus money, and he has to make the team every year, which I can't envision him. Not in the immediate future. So 503 million is is, you know not not real dollars in this thing, but nevertheless, the first thing I thought about this Dallas when I saw it. $503 million. There are 350 million people in the United States. The chief's could've given everybody a $1,000,000 still have 150 plus 1,000,000 left over. Patrick Home isn't a certain number, is it? Not? It is, you know, A most NFL contracts have a lot of funny money and you know that these numbers are out there If they're usually given to reporters by agents, agents want to look good and say they have the new highest contract in the NFL. The contract length on this is what's crazy. You know it walks him Kansas City for 12 years, And when I first saw those terms, I thought, what is there? My homeland agent doing? This is the best player in the NFL. This is a guy who could have all the leverage in the world. He should be signing no short to three year contracts. Each ofyou resetting the top of the market. Every couple there are three years. Or he should get something where his salary is tied to the salary cap. Or he had a stipulation that makes it the highest paid player at all times. Something radical like that he didn't get that. But he looked deeper into the contract there. There is some interesting terms so Most players are really good players will get, you know two or three years fully guaranteed of their contract. No matter how long their contract really is looking to add three years fully get those contracts will become guaranteed the year that we're talking about Homes. You got his contract every year guaranteed the year before, So it's more Patrick Mahomes somehow is no longer good in 2026 the chieftain of them true. Taking him in March. But his salary has already guaranteed for that entire year. And he has these match of roster bonuses. You know, his cat numbers or 40 $50 million can get out about money that they wait till the third day of the league year. It's celery and laughter. Bonuses for the following year become guarantees. So there's really no out for the chief's unless they want to sacrifice $50 million in that money every year. Not that they needed out of political special bombs should remain one of the best players in the NFL. That is really a pretty solid contract for Patrick Mahomes, which now seems obvious he got $500 contract. But there's little details show that it's a really good contract as well. I don't sense there's going to be a rush, for example. By the Ravens to do the same thing with Lamar Jackson or the tack Texans to do it with Shawn Watson. I I don't sense that's going to be the case to you. Not to this level. No, I don't think so. I think watching probably will be the next person to sign. Maybe die crossed out. We'll see if he if he worked anything out of the next week. Ravens. I think they'll probably hold off a little bit. I don't believe we have more drugs and can even be extended for another year and then they should have another two years of contract control. After that, I think they would hold off. But Watson. I think we'll probably get the next contract that Texans are not exactly the most financially strict team. They kind of give Kim to get players what they wanted all times. Additional. Watson is the face of the franchise, so I think We will get a massive contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a little more conventional was a big signing bonus, and maybe lower salary is probably not something unique. And Patrick Holmes this contract Not a lot of love out there nationally for the Bengals. I think Vegas I've seen Cesar's I've seen the West Gate over under his 5.5 wins, understanding, of course, that that number is set to get action on both sides of the number. But pretty much if you just look around and you see people in journalism, various websites. They're not really buying into a rebuild here just yet in Cincinnati. Is there any case to be made? For the fact that this is defense has been upgraded. You have easily the most exciting player that this franchise has had in decades and Joe Borough. There's more buzz around him than any other player I can ever remember in the last decade, but Are the national or the national pundits, right? Or is this going to be something that might be a complete surprise here in Cincinnati this season? What do you think? I don't want to sound like a homer. But I do think there is a chance that they could compete this year. I think if the Bengals were in a different division if they were in the NFC east of the NFC North I think there would be some real buzz about them being up, maybe a playoff contender. I think a lot of it is that they're in a F C north. Where where I think you are the one really good team on the Ravens. There two pretty good team in the brown mm's dealers, and then we'll see what the Bengals are. I think there is a decent chance they could get at least closer to aid mate. Like you said. They spent a lot of money on defense. They have the number one overall pick it. Quarterback welcomes around him there. Obviously question March their question marks of the offense of blind. I think they're still question March the coaching staff on both sides of the ball. But you know it just interpolate a 16 game season..

Tua Tagovailoa's Recovery Shakes Up the NFL Draft

"Time last year to ten goodbye. Loa was the consensus number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft but when a devastating hip injury in November ended his season at Alabama his NFL future was cast into doubt now with new reports. That too is recovery is on track. Teams are debating whether his elite talent is worth the risk and the entire draft. Looks like mystery? I mean at times? It's Tuesday February. Eighteenth this is espn daily presented by ADT. Todd Todd mcshay is an NFL draft in college football analyst for ESPN so todd. The last time we saw Tunga Velo on a football field. He was getting started off with a hip injury and it ended his season and Alabama title hopes along with it. News broke last week regarding the status of his recovery. What we know now well first of all I was there that day and it was brutal to watch behind. He's down to us. Down Helmet came off. This is exactly what you did not want to see happen and I was probably ten. Maybe twenty yards away from him as the to. Mississippi state defenders converged on him. And you could just tell right away. Something was wrong but then I saw the bloody nose at first and they said the trainers got. The plastic wraps in there has the gloves on their hands and and I just thought all right. They're they're just taking care of his nose and he'll be done for the day and then he went to stand up and you could tell just how deep his knee drove his leg into his hip that something was seriously wrong so it's good to hear that he has passed his first test. If you will sources confirm to ESPN at the most recent tests show is healing well and has good range of motion to what could get back to football activities in a month if he continues to progress well and is now moving onto the second phase of of the Rehab and recovery stage. There's still a lot left to determine and there's still a lot of rehab to go so that's going to be the biggest thing in terms of his evaluation between now and late. April's draft is where is he? And what are the doctors really? Think about the long-term WanNa talk to you about his injury and the draft. And you know the time line for all of that but I I wanNA talk to you. About what a good football player he is because prior to that injury he was the base star in college football. And you've been watching him for a long time wind it I strike you. This guy's got this stuff how `bout that throw in the national championship talk. He had never started a game and now he's in the National Championship with the game on the line he was coming off of a bad play was able to shake it off. He's keeping his is down the middle of the field and he's working that safety just a little bit to the right. He's trying to move the safety as much as he can because if he does. He knows that he has Smith's breaking down the sidelines. The is move the safety just enough for him to go back to Smith and make the throw of the year. I mean he just knew the spot that he had to get it to and to come in the second half and to have the confidence to lead Alabama to a victory. That kind of told me everything about him. And from that point he kept developing. But if you go back and just really study his tape the things that make him special his deep accuracy is as good as you're gonNA say he's so quick twitch he's like a drew brees from the left handed side you know just how how works in the pocket and goes from one read to the next but keeps his is married to his feet. He fits what you want in today's NFL. But is he going to be healthy enough to with that hip recovery to to have that quick twitch nece and and the ability to to move as quickly as he has tie? You're around these players but also these programs. What did you hear about how to? Oh was handling the injury in his rehab process. Everyone loves him. There's a calmness and a poise about him that you rarely see with with college quarterbacks or any college player so. I'd like to leave you with this from one of my favorites McGraw songs. When you get where you're going don't forget turn back around and have the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind so confident but so humble talking. Nfl SCOUTS IN GM's not a negative word about him. He's a special human being and wherever he winds up going. He's going to be the face of the franchise obviously but he's kind of a culture changer if you will and and. I think that's part of the draw in part of his value. It's not just this injury right. He's had other injuries that have caused him to miss time. He broke a finger sprained. A knee injured his quad. The ankles even before all of this. How much of a concern with that? It's a big. It really is a big concern and the problem is if you study the history of it if you look back. I think it's the last ten years or seven quarterbacks that had college injuries there were first round draft picks that all of them have had some varying kind of durability issues in the NFL from Rg. Three to SAM. Bradford Shawn Watson Marcus Mariota Carson wentz Teddy Bridgewater Jake Locker. All of these guys have gone on to have injuries now. They're not always the same injuries. Some guys are are just injury-prone and just knowing. Nfl teams in the amount of time and the amount of studies that they do. Especially at this position. Especially with first round picks. That are going to cost you. When you're talking about quarterbacks in the top ten twenty to thirty five million dollars in guaranteed money they're doing the research on this and they all know this. You know your job over the course of these college football seasons you're not just evaluating these players you're thinking about where they'll be drafted if to ahead gun her at that point in the season where do you think he would have gone. I think he would be the first overall pick. I think if two was healthy Cincinnati would be taking to a number one overall. I really do if he didn't suffer that injury. We would be having a great debate between two a ton of Iowa and Joe Borough but ultimately my guess is that too would probably be the decision at Number One and knowing Cincinnati. They'd probably they do something to maybe move out of that spot. Make a mistake and let Miami or the chargers Carolina come up and get that pick. If I'm being honest he's he's better than Joe Borough and I love Jober but if you tell me these two guys are going to have ten year careers with no injuries. I'm taking two but then I've got a measure. R Joe Borough has been durable. Jost has shown the ability to kind of fight through pain a little bit more and to stay healthy and so. That's really the deciding factor. In my opinion I have to ask you know. Why do you think he's better than borough? I mean rose coming off of arguably the greatest season we've ever seen by college quarterback. What is it about two as game that you prefer? If I knew he was going to be healthy I think he just kind of fits a little bit better in terms of what what the NFL is today. Terms of getting the ball out quickly and being decisive and then also when you take shots down the field. But I I love Joe Borough to if I WAS CINCINNATI. I would take her over to because of the durability issues. Borough is worth the the first overall pick and I think Cincinnati would be making mistake if they didn't take jober tied. You have to take proof your analysis because you're gonNA get clipped saying to us better than Joe Borough and that's GonNa Follow you forever. You've been spending too much time around.

Eli the Elite?

"Of course we will start with the news that came late yesterday and that is Eli Manning's decision. Chew retire he calls it a career after sixteen. NFL seasons the official announcement will come at a press conference tomorrow morning. He played his entire career with the giants. Why is he won? Two Super Bowls and let the franchise in every passing category. Here is now some reaction to his decision from around the league allows a great fierce competitor man and to be able to play hollow for sixteen seasons. It's a really tough. It's really tough. He's a super bowl. Champion are playing him my rookie year. He almost got me benched because he was lighting up and taking advantage of my. You know my my rookie. Youth is consistent steady throughout his whole career and obviously have a ton respect more. Aw Man he's got so much to be proud of and two super bowl championships. You know with two clutch drives the game. You know to win though so he deserves. I think a ton of accredit successor that time and also just a ton of respect from all of his further career he was able to hop. I mean he's got to be in the top ten in most every meaningful statistics when it comes to quarterback play. Okay so you know I got to play against a lot in the NFC east and really observed him. When I came in as a rookie he had just won the Super Bowl? And so I I enjoy it even when I was at the back of watching just observing high went about his business because I said Kay. That's that's the goal. That's where you want to get to. You can't write the NFL store without Eli Manning well said they're manning one of only five players in NFL history to win multiple super bowl MVP's he seventh. All Time and touchdown passes and passing yards arts and start at two hundred and ten consecutive games for two thousand four to two thousand seventeen the third longest streak for quarterback in NFL history. He was always there if the best ability is availability. He had plenty of that Victor. I'll start with you of course as Eli teammate and friends what's the one thing you remember most about. Eli Manning the player just being an iron man just being accountable just being there when you needed him the most we needed someone to make a play when you needed someone to carry the weight of the team on his shoulders. He took it and he never pointed a finger at anyone on the team. Never pointed the blame at anybody else. He always made sure that when loser draw he's GonNa take the pressure and take the heat off the team and bring everybody better and I think that made us respect him. It made us raise our level of play and it and it just made us go out there with a certain Passionate that certain disciplined to go out there and play with this guy because you knew that he was gonNA bring all he had each and every time he stepped out on their football fields and you knew the preparation was where I remember times where Sunday Hyundai after games that Monday morning already in luxury. Mind you that's off day. That's not even a that. We're supposed to be there. He's there studying getting ready for the next game. Getting Ready for the next opponent opponent and just tackling this thing on and commend you e for just everything for this league for the giants and and you know I know you're only gonNA accomplish more things posts a poster right. That was the first chapter. It's interesting perspective because we have teammate and we have opponent I always a different way to look at things. You have some hardware because the things that he was able to do in that super bowl playing against him a few times I could just say this. He's a constant professional going back a couple years ago even last year having to go up and down on with being a starter then being benched not being there you never saw him complainer or have any. Ill will towards his teammates. He was always trying to be the best teammate. He could be So that just represents his character. The type of team eighty is. It was always just trying to do to do the best for his team and congrats on a heck of a career and let's not forget he did it in New York or science which is not the easiest place to for that length of time with that kind of grace and I know you had a chance to talk to a lot of players today and late yesterday about what else legacy bid. Yeah I gotTa Tell You. It's probably one of the easiest questions I had to ask players about because the answers just came to everyone so quickly because everyone has so so many good stories about Eli and everyone loves to throw in there that he so unassuming he's unwavering and it's it's sometimes I think looked at I and some of the players said this as maybe perhaps a negative connotation because he's not flashy He's got this ability to go out there and running offense and not look physically scary when he does it put the respect is there. I talked to Shawn Watson for almost fifteen twenty minutes about Eli Manning specifically and he said you know I remember number for me going to the manning camps and getting the award and he taught me so many different things about football but he pulled me aside right before I got into the League and talked me about highs and lows and how many I'm about to be part of and in order for me to have six. I gotTA figure out a way to stay in between like I've I just thought of that. I thought of that conversation in moments when things have gotten really bad for me. So I if manning obviously having a tremendous effect on young quarterbacks in old ones as drew brees talk about it there's there's no question is he a hall of Famer absolutely. I think that when you look at obviously the two superlatively fees Only one he's one of the five people that have to Suba. MVP's and you know. I just think his legacy and the things that he left out on their football field. I mean it has to be have to take that into account and I just think he is all of Famer in in my book. I watched the Guy Work Day in and day out. He put the work into a hall of Famer and he put the work in to be even the conversation to be in the hall of fame. You know to this day so I think he absolutely gets Gets a deserves I. Yeah I think so as well look. There's a lot more variables that go into a team and you look at some of the years that they struggled in New York. It's not all allies fault right. There's other things in place there that make a team successful. So with the time he was there he was very good and he brought to Super Bowl so that organization an MVP two times. That's impressive so his body works speaks for itself. I think those players teammates journalists were so close to it. We we constantly talk about how great he is is and he's such a professional and and I think for fans it's hard to understand what we're talking about because we're in it with him. Were in the locker room. You guys are out on the field and you're just a significant -nificant difference when you put together a career the way he has dealt with good in the bed in New York with those cameras in his face and always be the same guy. After all these years I think for me he gets in Beeson the character the man. He isn't of course the fact that he was able to bring the I tell you what I liked that he got that one last start to. I'm not going to lie. It's really nice to be able to walk with the. He deserved that. I still get. I get chills and so Congratulations Eli Manning.

How "Lil' Ol' Clemson" Overcame the Odds

"Here today to talk about Little Clemson. First of all where where did that name come from. Davos swinney has been using it basically since he took over as the head coach back in two thousand eight and I know we're not supposed to be here. We're does willow beer but we about the Tigers man. I'm so proud and just quickly remind us. How much has little clemson accomplished in the last five years? And how do those accomplishments stack up against some of the all-time great teams. This will be their fourth national championship game in the past five years and obviously they have won. Two of the past three national championships backpedaling Lawrence flips absorb open wide open just native. Where's the pen strengthens? Its the championship game really witnessing one of the all-time great runs right. After or maybe you know in conjunction with the dynasty that Alabama has had attack territory with very likely a victory formation and a fifty fifth win but this clemson senior class. The Tigers Tigers reclaimed their crowd by four Alabama. We are really truly talking about one of the great runs. We've seen in this sport and yet they seemingly get no respect at least if you listen into what Dabo Sweeney has to say we win to the team that beat South Carolina. And it's we we get clemson out. It's the dad gummed state so it's big because you know they can't vote us out. I mean we gotta we gotTA WE GOTTA go thirty. You know I mean we got no choice forced but Stewart I wanted to talk to you about some of the things Clemson has had to overcome to get where they are today because in some ways it makes her accomplishments even more remarkable. So let's start with the schools location. This is a school that is in the tiniest towns announced in college football. The main drag is a half mile if that they have one of everything and only one of everything one starbucks Fox Walmart. You've got this eighty thousand seat stadium hundred fifty thousand people rolling into the town on the weekends. it's incredible bull and but then they all leave. You know Monday through Friday. We kind of have our own world and it's named Clemson. It's not named university. University of their state and Frankly University of South Carolina has a much bigger fan base in that state. CLEMSON's not even the biggest Followed team in their own state. And I imagine it's harder to build that fan support when you don't have the state name in your school's name 'cause fans can identify so strongly with the state there from. Yeah I mean obviously the one big exception in College Football History Notre Dame that has a true national following but that goes all the way back to the nineteen twenties and and new rockne is taking them on the train and playing games all around the country. It's truly unique when you think about the kinds of programs that we're used to seeing at the top of the polls the Alabama is the Ohio states. It's the US's these are schools with big huge national fan. Bases Clemson truly is still even with all the success mostly a regional school well and a lot of people might not realize this but clemson has had to recruit locally for the most part I mean. It's remarkable if you look at their roster. How many of the guys as our from North and South Carolina Georgia in Tennessee every program? You know the the core of their recruiting class is going to be in their backyard. But clemson's up until recently. He was almost entirely from their backyard. And really that mirrors Funston as a school their alumni base something like seventy percent of the alums live in three states South Carolina North Carolina and Georgia. This is not the kind of place where anywhere in the country you go. You're going to find clumps in Bar And one other big thing. That's working against Clemson. Is They play in the ACC weaker conference where where they don't really have a rival and it's almost like people forget about clemson during the regular season because you know they don't have very many marquee games. Yeah everybody watched. Trevor Lawrence and Travis E. T. N. and and T- Higgins in last year's national championship game and saw how great they they were and then the season starts in people. Stop watching the game. They played against Texas. Ain't ammon week to was the most watched game they played this season A little over six million viewers. That was not even one of the top twenty most watch games in college football this season. And if you look at that list of the top Twenty Games Ohio Hi oh state was in five of them. LSU was in four of them Michigan. who wasn't even all that good was in three of them? When talks about lack of respect the thing that bothered him most is this year? was that none of those star players Trevor Lawrence WHO everybody assumes will be the number one pick when he's coming off his junior season travis? CTN has been one of the best running backs in the country the last three years. None of those guys made the heisman ceremony. And none of those guys were even finalists for the award for the best is player at their position in. That's not because they're not great players. It's because nobody watched them this season. How has clemson been able to overcome some of these kind of systemic? Systemic challenges. The fact that they aren't this historical powerhouse. The fact that they're in this tiny town in the middle of nowhere South Carolina would have been the keys to to them building this program into what it's become. Yeah well it really all starts Dabo swinney. He is a extremely unique personality in college. Football one moment along the way that I think have stuck with everybody was Dave beat Notre Dame in practically a monsoon in twenty fifteen regular season and they interview him after the game on. ABC what nine listen. We're giving scholarships give you stipends in tails in a place to live. We're giving nice uniforms. I give you good service tonight. It was big. Well Gee Bring Your own God put some dads and to me that personifies daboh like. That's not something. Most coaches coaches would say in a post game interview and kind of set the tone I think from their Dabo. Swinney is the fun coach. He's the coach who when they built their new football facility. They put in a PUTT. PUTT course welcome to the outdoor pavilion miniature. Golf Renfro just happened to catch the game winner in the National Championship Against Alabama. We'll see what he's got here. Your place on Punsalan rest for the weary. We'll at hunter and so that became their brand there. The Fun School there the place you want to go if you WANNA play college. Football get an education education and have a lot of fun doing it and to amplify that message. Clemson was really ahead of the curve. I think With how they used social media to appeal to recruits they are constantly putting out videos And other images that show exactly that that show that take you inside side. The Locker Room and inside the facility in show you how much fun they're having Show you Dabo swinney dancing in the locker room after a win Stewart. How would you describe Devil's dance? Moves dance moves are about a clunky and awkward as you'd expect from a middle aged dude but but certainly in keeping with his his personality. There's also a video that they posted of Disney filming a football ball movie at Clemson last night. Any five thousand people here. We have to shoot three plays and the entrance from valley in a half of a half time. Half time the real players went off the field and a whole bunch of actors and Clemson. Uniforms came running onto the field and the and the the crowd cheered them on. And and you know made it seem like a real football game and the footage is going to be spectacular. It's one of the three loudest crowds in Clemson visit history. And what role has the rest of the Clinton coaching staff played in the rise of the Tigers when Dab oh I started getting a going at Clemson they weren't a national powerhouse yet. They were starting to get better. He did something that was a little unusual at the time and basically took a lower salary for himself in order for them to spend more on. assistant coaches. Because at that time. They weren't necessarily rolling in money like some of the programs that they were trying to compete against. They they were paying their coordinators top dollar money and those coordinators played a huge role. I mean they were the ones that certainly Chad. Morris was the one that recruited and coach Sammy Watkins Skins and certainly does Shawn Watson. The guys that got this run started now. They are rolling in money. An data was making nine million dollars a year. And that's you know that there's no longer a disadvantage for Clemson. But they were very smart about how they went about managing that in the early years of this run.

Is Homefield Advantage Dead?

"WANNA start here eight and I think this allows us to get in week fifteen you mailed me some stats last week And now we saw again today. Road teams were nine and six against the spread. The road teams won all nine of those games outright for the season road teams against the spread. One twenty five ninety three three and five there thirty two games over five hundred while home favorites Through fifteen weeks or fifty seven eighty one in five twenty four games. That's amazing right there. And we have had over and over again these double digit losses. We just had it today again with San Francisco cousin. Sal I ask you this homefield advantage dead. It might be there might be. I think you said you said it in basketball you were saying was dead. It's funny yesterday on text exchange. But yeah if you're looking through your pools and you have to pick sixteen games a week if there are no bison. You're going six and ten every week it's because you're taking home favorites. I know I know it's hard hard. I know when the better team is laying six at home. It's hard to not circle the left side but stay away. It's very bizarre an extremely bizarre week. The raiders was ending that Falcons ending the Vikings first half cost people money the way that ended obviously the Redskins Eagles. That might have been the worst ending if you had if you had the redskins the plus points Or if you're going against Cooper cop in your honesty semi funky you hold. That thought we were talking about that. I think what's interesting to me. I I remember I wrote about this at the end of last decade ironic. I think Oh eight zero nine I wrote about this trend with with the NFL where it didn't see my homefield matter the way it did and then we had settled into this eight nine year run. We're homefield still mattered. But not like a date when we were growing up where it was like. If you went into somebody else's house also really hard to win and then you get to this year and I think we're seeing it with basketball to serves texting boat this weekend. I think there's three reasons I think the first reason is the secondary market. And the fact that you just don't have stadiums anymore words just completely fans for the home team yet so it it always seems to be more splintered than it used to be. The tickets have gotten way more expensive so I think that's that's Priced out some of the crazies. You know like some of the friends wrens. You had grown up some of the friends that I had back in Boston. It's just harder for them to for tickets and then I think the third thing. There's been so much talk about civility ability at games and you know fan behaviors. Just been a huge spotlight on how people behave and what they're allowed to do and yell. Oh and all that stuff and the crowds just seem Tamer and we saw today with the raiders. Blew a game late to Jacksonville Euro and this was the last I Oklahoma Game. It was on those on that. They're not gonNA lose their last home game and frigging g Menchu when right down the field out and then we saw it again today with Buffalo. It's like Ow Josh. Challenge when push comes to Shove Jiaxuan is not GonNa be able to get points in Pittsburgh. The crowd will take him out of it their defense no Josh Allen right down and scored. I don't know who has the great home field advantage anymore. So we'll Josh Allen didn't have a great game no thirteen completions. That was just an. I'm sorry I Pittsburgh Burke might still make the playoffs and I pray that they do because I have. They're the only team I could see betting against in that first round like I have a feeling on any other first round match unless Pittsburgh goes to Kansas City. I mean they've they've got in the last five games in which the supposedly hot they scored fifteen points a game. It's just Mike. Tomlin did as much much as he could. He can't do what you can do for this offense. You can't fake punt from his own twenty eight every week. I'm sorry but I think you're right. I think it's all the things you said. I also I think. Road teams coaches management has figured out the exact amount of time a team should spend in the opposing city. You know it's easier to travel now all that kind of stuff so there's not that much The jet lag isn't as big a concern. But you're right. We used to see division winners at seven and one eight eight. No now aside unless you like the packers this cowboys eagles four and three Kansas City foreign three at home like even the really good teams. You know Houston only five and two at home. Buffalo's GonNa make the playoffs only four and three at home i. I don't know what the reason is but trust us. These home teams are not. They're not better than they were five ten years ago. Yeah and I think that Tennessee Games are good example right. Yep didn't really seem like it mattered. Where that game was played and I don't think it's GonNa Matter Week? Seventeen either right now. The crowd was was good. They were into it but it wasn't like wasn't like the Shawn Watson was going to be affected by the crowd. We left out another reason that I think matters maybe Charles back to our childhoods. But you know the headsets the head facing the helmets and the and the QB being able to hear the offensive coordinator being able to move faster and the the even somebody like trubisky you know they were in that game that I know the packers won by eight. And if he didn't see the game you just assume The packers they were up double digit second half but the bears were lingering in that game and there were a couple of moments era when it seemed like they had a chance maybe to force overtime and I didn't think h Bisky who I don't think is good then look scared but he. He certainly wasn't rattled by playing in Lambo. So I stopped when when you know the we've been doing million dollar pegs you and I have been. We've been betting all season. I've really stopped looking at home field. They're very very few times. Do I say to myself. Oh my God that teams home. I really really love having the home team here even even tonight I bet on Buffalo. Hello at Pittsburgh. And as you said Josh Allen wasn't great but they were still able to move the ball and they needed to and their defense certainly traveled. It didn't seem to matter to them where they were playing. And I just think we throw homefield out. I don't know where it really matters anymore. Well if we go into the playoffs saying I just can't see so and so winning at ax EXC. There's not that many of those anymore right right. Then probably win their game at home and you know the niners or or or award seahawks over wax or they'll have a by but you know those some of those row teams near Green Bay will probably win at home but you can't say unless it's dot co dot com is going to Kansas City. I can't really say Buffalo. There's no way they're winning in Houston right or anything like that especially when you get to the one to three seeds when they match up so do you think is Seattle place that you feel like homefield battered team in the playoffs That's probably top three but not as much Chisato did eight years ago when Tony Romo had to go there or something like that. I don't think it's slow because think about what are they foreign to Yeah about about their last couple of games whether seven and one on the road I mean it is scary arose team right there. Last couple of games Minnesota went in there and put thirty autumn atom. Yep and then the game before that James Put thirty four on them in that game went to overtime I don't know I I wanted to start. The season isn't yeah. It's not the

Kevin Nash Among Those Picked For the WWE Hall Of Fame

"So we got hall Nash Hogan and Ex Pock going into the hall of fame in Twenty Twenty as the N. W. O.. All are already in Spin Your wacky and Batista is also going in and that leads to this person's question here. I find it weird that out of everyone that was in the N. W. O.. Only Hogan Hall Nash. And Chandra being inducted in the hall of fame might get the first three guys are important because they're the founders but sean being the only other one added his weird especially since guys like Diaz in big show joined before him. Listen really listen my friend. The hall of fame is a Gimmick. The hall of fame is a Gimmick television ratings and to get people to buy tickets. And you do that by presenting big stars and on top of that even if you consider this a real hall of fame which it's not yes. DB OSCE was in before xbox but was a manager who did nothing in one day just disappeared like there was nothing nothing hall of fame worthy about the end of the the big show was in there as in and out in and out in and out he turned fifty five times. Seems like the core of the group Shaan Waldman was a core of the group. He's actually one of the guys you think about when you think of the show as well more so than the big show but at the end of the it doesn't matter Shawn's available and they want the four guys all their. They want to sell tickets based on their names and Batista's name the fact that the announced everyone so far in advance tells me they probably weren't happy with how things went last year. So they're getting all these names out here now to sell a whole bunch of tickets and I'm sure that someday big show is going to go in as has the big show the pregnant. I want to do that when I and then later they can put him in with this faction that faction but I don't think it should over think who's going in they want and stars to be given rings that's it and obviously they got a quota so you can have a woman this year. You can have a legend this year you you can have whatever their pioneer wing is this year. I mean that's just the way things are going to go. It's a payday. It's a rang that later on. You can pawn if you need to you. You know that there's it's hey it's it's a celebration and it is what it is. So is Shawn Watson not in as a member of the X louden they deacs not lou the wwe hall of fame takes win last year. So shall Walkman in with that yes so there's a possibility now that he's in with the end of Yo that we can still. Oh get the one-two-three kid inducted into the hall of fame and Shaul Maltman can get into the hall of fame three times maybe we can give him some lightning kid as well tube. At least the one two three kid has got a chance to make it into the hall of fame. That's what you telling me. Yeah they're multiple people in Multiple Times. I'm sure that's what's the record. I want to see him. Go in. I mean could bury layers twice. He's probably go in three times. You may be in three times by now. I think he's only emphasize though we'll never run out of people people I know you think that we will because they have to bring in so many people. We've already ran out of Michael. No no we're repeating. Listen to me very dr so can make it in the repo man can make it in a demolition smash can make it in Who else was it? The Golfer could make it Mike. You're you're you're missing my point my putting in the a Golfer you've already ran at a people by putting people in twice you've already ran at a people. We ran out of people. The Madison Square Garden Ring. Bell is actually should be in the hall of fame. It's in my own personal hall of fame. That distinct Rengel should be in the hall of fame. That's the direction we're going with this thing actually is we're going to get nanometer objects objects into the hall of fame because we've already got gimmicks going in concepts like the end of your show groups I I guess that's how you're calling this but like why not just have random things things the gobbledygook egg could be in the hall of fame soon.

Lamar vs. Deshaun: Dual-Threat Duel

"Dummy Foxworth is a former. NFL Player in a writer. At the undefeated undefeated Dominique Texans at Ravens Shawn Watson versus Lamar Jackson. I M extremely pumped to watch this football game name I mean how could you not like their playoff implications about like the first round by then you have to. MVP caliber quarterbacks going face to face race is not even that they are officiant are exciting. Like Lamar Jackson is spending people out of their shoes back. And I got a touchtone school into Shawn Watson taken feet to the face and throwing touchdown passes swatted. Betty goes down. We stay so to speak. This might be the most exciting game of the year. Well let's back up. This is not the first time these two quarterbacks have played what happened during their last match up as they played against each the other twenty sixteen in college we have a QB dual death Valley Malabar Jackson sensation in the sport but Shawn Watson. Is this delete veteran. Lamar Jackson Accent was at Louisville. A Lot less talented Louisville going up against Clemson and it was everything that you wanted Jackson Jackson. What's the pocket staff? Lived up to the. Both of those guys had great games. I think Jackson had nearly the three hundred yards passing any at one. Hundred sixty yards rushing touchdowns rushing one passing. Scores Standing at Louisville is walk. You're right back in this game and Watson won the game with over three hundred yards passing and five touchdowns through the air. In Ninety one yards rushing fires back the open it was a great game was close. Lamar Jackson and his team came this short of the end zone Jackson. Listen it go back then in two thousand sixteen. What was the perception of both of these quarterbacks like I mean Lamar was Ryan? Pretty high ended up winning the heisman trophy. That year and does Shawn Watson didn't do too bad himself want a national championship that year. I think people were very very the high on both of them right. well as I mentioned Sean went out and won the title. That year seemed like a no brainer that he would be A starting caliber. NFL quarterback a sure thing and yet the draft comes around and he falls to number twelve. He was picked behind. Mitch Trubisky and Dan Patrick Mahomes what happened. I don't know it didn't make sense because he didn't just win the National Championship. He came from behind throwing the ball through the air. Picking apart art the Alabama defense which was loaded with NFL talent. It seemed like what more do you want and then the very next year. Lamar Jackson also faced faced skepticism. When it came to his prospects in the NFL there were some respected people at this network and elsewhere who thought that maybe his best chance at succeeding being in the NFL was to play receiver which just made absolutely no sense? heisman trophy quarterback who wasn't running the option in college. He was running a pro style offense essentially at least a passing place. Where pro style? Why anybody would think that he needed to switch? Physicians was dumbfounded. You and I washed him very closely closely. Dominique ahead of the draft. We actually wrote a piece together about what it would take for him to succeed in the NFL. What was your conclusion from doing that? We look more deeply into a player's background in on field performance than I had with any other player and I remember being surprised at how developed a pocket could passer he was because all his highlights highlights that resonating. Your mind are him running so you think well maybe. He's like a running quarterback but no the criticism about him was not at all about his ability to read defenses or run a pro style offense. The criticism about him was about his accuracy which is fair but he was much further along as far as being. NFL Pro Ready Ready quarterback than most guys will get kind of tagged with that dual threat right. I went to his day in Louisville for our peace to do some reporting what did strike me about being there was during his throwing drills seeing how bad his wide receiver rose war they were dropping passes right and left. Yeah and I would think that. Having living bad receivers frankly or just generally mediocre talent would bode well for him in the draft process. That people would recognize that he was that entire program. I am all the success that they had while he was there was because he was great. And it's interesting that you bring that up because somehow teams looked at him and didn't appreciate that and then they looked at Shawn Watson in maybe poverty why he slid was because they had so much talent at Clemson. So like People looked at Shawn Watson and they might have seen maybe a guy who was just orchestrating a bunch of great talent and not a great talent himself. I'm not sure how they could watch the film and come to that conclusion. At the time I remember being kind of confused by but I don't understand Dan. How else do you select him behind? Somebody like Mitchell trubisky. Dominic what do you remember from watching the two thousand eighteen draft Well first of all I remember I remember watching it in a dark room with you and Bristol doing some sort of live show. It was really fun. And I remember Lamar Jackson showing up in that beautiful green suit and and feeling optimistic about him landing on a team early because I frankly thought he was the best quarterback in that draft and then watching him slowly. Sit there and all the time passing by and I remember thinking that. There's no way that they're going to let this heisman trophy. Winning Uber towns at quarterback. Go into the second day but the ravens swooped in and grabbed him with thirty second. Pick in the two thousand eighteen. NFL draft the Baltimore. Ravens Select Lamar Jackson in Louisville Right. Meanwhile I'm sure that he was uncomfortable in that moment and he did not enjoy sitting there in the green room with the cameras. Keep checking on his side face but it worked out because I don't think that he would have the success as in many other teams. You use the word confused to describe your reactions to watching these quarterbacks drop in the draft but really I I think you have some thoughts as to why it happened now. Oh Yeah I wasn't confused. Shocked said that because I seem like the right to say hey. I'm black man. I'm very aware of the the unconscious. Or maybe sometimes conscious bias that that goes into the decision making that happens in football and sports beyond that it just as difficult when you assume that there's so much riding on making the right decision that people have a difficult time getting past whatever biases. They are to try to succeed. So I'm not surprised. I think those those players that are brought up earlier like the contrast I bear I think makes it more glaring than anything else is like when you look at Lamar Jackson Deshaun Watson. Why are you more prone to see someone like rg three your career path? That's not successful than you are to see a career path of a quarterback who did succeed. There's just kind of faulty narrative out there that I think a lot of people whether knowingly or not kind of ascribed to is that mobile or athletic dole thread are or frankly just black quarterbacks. Don't don't pan out when they get to the

"Let's get into the Games for Sunday pain we can start at Lucas oil stadium we're we're looking at Indianapolis a modest one point home favourite total in this game forty seven at Fox but of course to Houston Texans have been dynamic of late F one four out of their last five covered the last four have a little bit of playoff revenge on their minds for a game that they were dominated by Andrew Luck in company to the tune of twenty one seven season ago and in a unique scheduling quirk or call it what you will both teams actually enter Sunday's game fresh off a victory against the Kansas City chiefs interesting did not know that why Chins I didn't know I didn't really realize that listen I think when we look at this matchup we look at this game we're starting to see what the Texans offense has the potential to be right with a little help up front we've kind of seen flashes the last few seasons of you know in the lead offense when it's healthy Wendy Shawn Watson has it rolling and he's confident is a passer which you look the last two weeks Houston's had the best pass protection in the Watson air and I think that's pretty important moving forward the ground game has also been on fire something that the Houston Texans could not do last year was run the ball consistently would fizzle out constantly in the red zone and it's because I think they found some consistency upfront finally right you found your five guys as the talent is playing spots I think that suit them best in you're looking through the last two weeks eight pressures fifty six percent of runs of grades so now let's see if that continues because it's it's it's a two-game sample it's a byproduct of probably facing the chiefs and Falcons defenses and I think also the right is Howard injury at right tackle could shake up some of that piece of this that I've kind of been alluding to their other thing in this match up that's kind of caught my attention and it kind of is a a broader point a topic that we've discussed Ad Nauseam ruin knows at this point we liked the coach's coaching staff of the colts were not fond of it for the Houston Texans and I think coaching tends to matter when the opponent is familiar and everybody kind of knows what each other wants to do and it's the coaching staff that comes out and has the power Henschel or ability to make adjustments and make changes and I think the team that does that rise probably the colts and you look last season these guys play each other three times in the I meeting which was the first time Frank Reich saw this team Shawn Watson has seven point one yards per pass in week four that number tumbles to five point three per pass in week fourteen and then you had the quick turnaround Wildcard Game Watson was held a four point two yard pass at home and I think that's interesting it's something that you have to talk about here there's another element play and it's one we've talked about I think we talked about it on the Monday night breakdown of the new CBA about home teams coming off the bye and they generally haven't performed overly well it's you know about forty one percent of the time they're covering think it's positive if you've done some reading this week Frank Reich iterative that this was not a time to vacation that this was rest recover and mentally focused on the bye week there was no vacation time no one was allowed to travel so it would make me nervous in a pick em game choosing bill over Frank Reich and you know it just it that becomes magnified when you have two weeks the game plan

"Brown you remember him. The former her rounds executive vice president who during his brief tenure there <hes> tore down the franchise built up draft picks they went one in twenty seven passed on Wednesday <unk> Shawn Watson Watson but then after he was canned all those picks lead to things like myles Garrett Baker Mayfield Denzel Ward and now the browns are on the up well. He got a job wondering we're just talking about where Sashi he's working with the wizards organization in the N._B._A.. <hes> they have some type of new program called monumental basketball new newly formed collective <hes> between the wizards and mystics or the W._n._B._A.. Version of Washington's franchise anyway and also the capital city Gogo with the G. I think that most browns fans already would look back on Sashi Brown and say a lot of pain that went along with his plan but it was successful and to go to another sport doesn't concern me at all because it's not like football or front of analytics well. That's Paulie DEEPA DESTA WHO still with Brown quietly behind behind the scenes. How important is hand size for Kyler Murray?

"The biggest deal his hand size. Which is the big deal. Not just grasping the football throwing the football. But also holding onto it when you're running you get hit or you're standing in the pocket, and you get hit the bigger your hands the easier. It is you to hold onto the football column. Murray's hands measured at five nine. I'm sorry nine and a half not in half inches. So ladies and gentlemen, in other words, considering all the measurable 's. He's in good standing and as a result. Now, we get to lean on his talents. We've seen a guy that primarily to pocket we see a guy that can run with the football. The likes of which we haven't seen since Michael Vick. Although Michael Vick was a more violent and different runner. The bottom line is we haven't seen anybody that can run the football like column ary outside of Michael Vick. Shawn Watson and there. I guess is debatable. I don't think. So. And as a result. The question is should column. Ary beat a number one overall pick any NFL draft. My answer's

"As well late in the holiday season as all the lights in the trees are down. But we'll do that later on this hour. Well, we did not have many shows together Taza myself due to vacation a through the month of December. But the Saturday games, you know, let's start with the game. That was kind of a snooze our first, and I get to the damore intriguing one which was the the Cowboys in the Seahawks game, which went Dallas's way as they marched on. But. L the Houston Texans. And to Shawn Watson got outplayed. And and really got their butts handed to Indianapolis Colts and late Saturday afternoon down in Houston. And that is a disappointing loss for that. Texans. Franchise who started the aero three one nine straight in the regular season Watson got healthier better as the season went along. And I thought I a couple of headlines for me when I come out of that game. As the reason why number one is luck is is just right now, he's playing back in the national. He really is. Draw when that game was being decided in the first half. Luck was brilliant through you know, he had twenty twenty one nothing before at six minutes and forty eight Mark of the second of the second quarter enroll purposes that game was over the colts came out like a team on fire. They took advantage of mental and bad penalties mental mistakes and bad penalties by the Houston. Texans on their opening drive to punch it in seven nothing. So I look at it. The texans. I thought were sloppy the colts were Kris Burley the game was decided early to Shawn Watson even with that game being barging game ties. There were throws for schol Watson make that he just missed. He was downright terrible. And I thought it was a big game player and on Sunday on on Saturday afternoon. He came up quite small play. Sean did not play good awful. And you're right. The the colts. You know, what I saw Matt you know, they win the game. Twenty one seven. Right. So so they set a tone from from the first series and had the ball. Just like we discussed on Friday. And that's exactly what happened is the offensive line for the Indianapolis Colts. They set a tone. They set the table that we're going to push you, Texan de linemen and linebackers off the ball. And what this is all a lot of scrimmage. We're going to own it, and we're going to own it every series, and that's exactly what that old line. Did they they were spectacular as advertise? They kept JJ quiet JJ watt. They kept cloudy, quiet. They kept the Texans. Defense quiet. And and we had a feeling that was going to happen. That's shores. How what happened MAC? Also ran the ball. Great for the colts here close a hundred fifty yards rushing. So he played really well. I mean, so TY Hilton's just been clutches. Heck, I mean, so you know, what you're right. Andrew luck is just really he looked spectacular. I mean, I still can't believe that he's back play into this level at the super high level after the layoff. He had and how long he was out. Very impressive. It is the touch slows the t y Hilton just off the charts and a gift Frank Reich and his staff credit the offensive line, set a tone. No question, it's been a huge issue. It's been a strong point to that team all season. They got Ryan Kelly backed the former Alabama crimson tide star center back at Senator dealt with a neck injury this year, which caused him to miss some games. And the colts are a better football team right now, I thought Bill O'Brien in Romeo. Cornell got out coached. I didn't exactly know what cornell's defense was trying to do where you saw colts colts receivers run free..

"With Amy Lawrence. It did not win RTD of the week though. It was a close candidate. But deandre Hopkins with the game winning touchdown the Houston Texans rallying passed the New York Jets. They got to ten wins that if I'm not mistaken. Diop hop is now at eleven touchdown catches on the season. The Texans have a righted the ship. And most of what a old then the last couple of years was devastating injuries. But as JJ watt likes to say every week after a win. They can beat you variety of ways, they will do whatever it takes. And now they're on the cusp of an AFC south championship. They're up by two with two games to play. Colton titans. Both at eight and six and how about this little nugget there also currently sitting in the two seed in the AFC that would mean a buy it would mean hosting a home game. It would mean playing on your own turf with all of those crazy fans instead of having to travel. This could be the Texans. Breakthrough in the NFL postseason. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio Marc Vandermeer with the call on the Texans radio network, Wisconsin. Oh my gosh. Seriously. Could I do any worse this hour Seth save me? Although I just called you an offensive lineman on the air. So you know, I'm like over to in the last five minutes. I get that a lot. That I take it as a compliment because those guys tend to be a little bit smarter than. Because I as much as I said. Just for me to clarify, really quick. Marc Vandermeer is the voice of the Texas that was Scott Graham on Westwood One. You are Seth Payne former defensive lineman for the Jags and for the Texans. And I gotta know how much excitement and buzz is there around the Texans. Now, maybe looking like they're a team that has a legit shot home. I'm gonna tell you honestly, it's a little bit more subdued than you would have expected her team. That's ten and four right now with a quarterback. Shawn Watson in in in some respects looks like Michael Jordan, like dabbled Sweeney said when he was in college, but another respect looks like a young quarterback. So there's there's a healthy amount of skepticism just because the Texans have been aided by a pretty easy schedule. And you know, we're not debating college football playoffs here anything. But when you look at some of the strengths of the Texans team, they haven't necessarily been tested like you'd like to see, you know, they don't have a they don't have a strength a strong win the way you see when you want to get a team into the college football player. Offs. Right. So we don't have to worry about quality wins and losses. But what would you say their weaknesses are there? Achilles. Heels. This point their weakness on defense because they have a very solid defense except for when they're faced with speedy wide receivers, which playoff teams tend to have because they're gonna play zone. The defensive line has a good pass. Rush got cloudy. You've got JJ watt. You've got Whitney mercilus windows guys. Don't get to the quarterback. They struggle with allowing big plays in the secondary beyond that they play solid defense where they'll keep things in front of them don't make tackles they just play old school sound fundamental football. It's what you do versus the t y Hilton. Where's the jets? What do you do versus the Robbie Henderson? You know, if they have a guy on their team that runs a sub four four forty detect me they're a little bit nervous about that. What about the run game? How would you evaluate it at this point in the season? If you look at the standings, the Texans are about six or so in total the run rankings a lot of that's just based on volume and what we saw early on this season was that the Texans pass the ball lot. Shawn Watson turn the ball over Lodhi through a lot of interceptions early on. They started being much more conservative. They started running the ball a lot, and they're only averaging three point six three point five yards per carry. But they ran the ball so much that they accumulated a lotta yardage these last couple of weeks when they faced teams that just flat out could shut down the run. And it put them in a lot of third and longs situations and at that point the offensive line needs help to running backs and tight ends and pass protection. Team started blitzing realizing that Shawn Watson didn't have that many options to throw too. So really right now, it's a matter of can forum. The second year player who's who's coming back from injury. Achilles tendon surgery last year can helping the run game is Lamar Miller is injured and can really more than anything..

Discussion of the happenings at the MLB Winter Meetings 2018

"Yankees. Mets Marlins deal that would involve JT real Muto Noah Syndergaard Miguel and do Har. I'm Ed Rosario. Couple other moving parts real Muto into any with the Mets. The. Yenkey would end up with Noah, Syndergaard, not sure really what the Marlins would get besides Ahmed Rosario would have to be a lot more than just that for them to give up JT real Muto. I mean, no question about that. So it just comes down to just what's fun going on there at the winter meetings. We're going to check in in Las Vegas momentarily. But I'll tell you what it's just always fun to see the rumors, and how about this one, Lance Lynn. Gets three year thirty million dollar contract. I must be getting old here, but the amount of money that teams throw around on mediocre players is stunning yesterday. We talked about Andrew mccutchen whose past his prime getting fifteen million dollars a year. Now, you're talking about Lance Lynn getting ten million dollars a year. Now, it's a step back from the twelve million you made last year, but still he's not crying poverty making ten million dollars a year as an average pitcher coming off a season with a four point seven seventy IRA. Lance Lind's were ten million dollars. You can't be serious. Producer Shawn Watson Makia. Lance Lynn's a ten million dollar player in today. You're getting from the Yankees this year. Eight and a half is it. So then yeah is worth ten million dollars. Yeah. Is he worth more than of course, a bath is thirty eight and going on thirty nine these finished. But still had a better here than Lance Lynn. Right better longer. That's true. That's true. I wouldn't give in ten million a year if that's the case. So here's what I don't understand yet. What's the market going to be like for the closers like these relievers? Right. What's the market gonna be like for them? I think the market has gotten bigger and bigger for relief pitchers. And I just think that honestly like when you're the Andrew Miller's of the out of venos- or the kimbrough's or the David Robertson's Zach Britain's of the world, what's the money to be like for those guys because are they more valuable than a Lance Lynn in today's baseball. Right. Yeah. Right. I mean, are they more valuable? They are right. Well, let's in is reliever. Well, don't forget that. Well, but he's more starter. Right. He can do both. He could eat. Yeah. But I think they're bringing them in to be a starter. I would think. I think that's why you're gonna pay Lance Lynn ten million bucks. It's not my money though. That's the funny thing it's not my money. But it's just always like unfathomable to me when I look at the amount of money. Some of these players end up getting it just really incredible. I don't think we'd have the law jam like we had last year. You remember Lance Lynn didn't sign too late. He was one of those guys that was taking part of that crazy camp in Bradenton Florida the free agent training camp. Remember the spring training for the the free agent players. So he at least has signed early it. Seems that look I think what's interesting is when you talk about Manny Machado, and you talk about a Bryce Harper. You could eliminate ninety five percent of the teams in baseball from being involved in that. Right. I you know, that there's going to be ninety ninety five percent teams that are not gonna get involved. And those guys are already shopping in that bargain-basement been they're the ones that look at a Lance Lynn and say, hey, maybe there's good value there. That's the market for those guys. So I think the question's going to be for the big market teams. That may be interested in a Bryce Harper. Manny Machado when are they going to put some pressure on? The Scott Boris is the world saying, look, we gotta get something done here. Because in the meantime, other guys are signing elsewhere, right? If you're looking for an outfielder and Bryce Harper's who you've looked at and you end up not getting Bryce Harper who's going to be. Left on the market in two or three weeks, depending on when he's going to decide to sign at some point. You say, okay, we got a pivot away because we haven't gotten any word. Do we sign the Andrew McCarthy since the Phillies, frankly, did they make a statement by signing mccutchen? Which is. Yeah, we'll go and get ourselves the infielder Machado. But maybe we're not going to go after Bryce Harper. Like a lot of people say we are. Or are we going to now go out and spend another ridiculous amount of money and get Bryce Harper. We've brought in two new outfielders into the mix with Andrew mccutchen. And Bryce Harper. That's the interesting thing to me when you look at what's happening because I think teams don't wanna be used against each other. Right. Nobody wants to be put into a bidding war, and that's exactly where Scott Boras makes his money. He wants a bidding war for Bryce Harper. He wants a bidding war first clients. And the fact is a bidding war, though takes time. And if you have a bidding war teams going to get involved, and because the money is going to be so incredibly large. Then if you're willing to go thirty to thirty five million dollars a year on Bryce Harper, and you don't end up getting him. And then you have to pivot quickly away the warriors what's still left on the market by the time. I'm eliminated from the Harper competition or what's going to be left. If I'm looking for a shortstop slash third baseman wants Manny Machado signs, and I'm left holding the bag and the other names out. There are Freddie Galvez, and I'll Sita's Escobar and a Denny hetch of Iria guys who can't hit a lick. So I think that's what teams have to weigh here. Sean in terms of what exactly they need to do and getting involved with the big names, and how long are they willing to sit there and kind of have that money sitting there in escrow because they don't want obviously go out and start using it on other players to Bryce Harper makes a decision. They might be like crap we spent too much. We can't make that deal for Bryce Harper. Well, I mean, that's a possibility. But I don't see that happening. Because teams have an idea about Bryce Harper. They're talking to Scott Boris. They know if he has interest, so they're going to save the money until they hear his final answer. Yeah. But then they may hurt themselves. That is true. That's the problem. They may be hurting themselves. See I think the Phillies as much as I think they overpaid for Andrew mccutchen. Right. I think what the Phillies are looking at is. Look we need to outfielders. We're going to be in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes. Because we have a lot of money to spend. We got fifteen million dollars on the books this year and outfield with Andrew mccutchen. We can still fit another thirty thirty five million with Bryce Harper. Maybe another thirty million with Manny Machado, whatever it is. And maybe they can go out and make a big splash with everything. Right. That's the team that I think is going to be intriguing because if there's any team that potentially will go out and we'll get not just Harper, but also Machado. It's the Phillies. There's no other team in baseball right now, you can see spending money to bring in both Harper Machado and adding sixty to seventy million dollars payroll. The only team that can absorb that type of hit is affiliate because their payroll number isn't very high for next year. That would be fascinating, Sean. If the Philadelphia Phillies come out of the winter meetings or come out of the two thousand eighteen year, and they have signed Harper and Machado. And by the way, it's not crazy to think they could do it. Seriously. Heard that too. It is crazy that signing both of those guys. Why not? Why not six million? In two players for the next ten years. Yeah. They got the money. Got the money crazy. Seriously. They got the money to do it. Why not love to see it happen? I seven hundred million. Yeah, they're not doing that. I don't remember the Phillies are about to start their own regional networks soon to okay. They have a terrible TV deal. They're about to start their own regional network. To me be interesting to find out what that means financially. Because I thought there a big market team people show up at citizens Bank park, the Phillies, you know, are they make money. The question is if they get their regional network, they can be making a heck of a lot more money. If that's the case. Yes. Seven hundred million dollars over the next ten years from shadow and Harper, and you know, how packed the stands. No question about it for ten years going with those two big names. All right. So what did Tony LaRussa say backing up Harold Baines for a hall of fame induction? We'll tell you next going deep. Dan, Schwartzman, NBC sports radio in the NBC sports radio mobile app.

"You know, I think he's right around that nineteen or twenty range. But I know again, we're, we're in the fantasy era where everything's about stats and quarterback rating, and that's all that people look at. I think that at least half the league have thrown twenty eight interceptions twenty eight touchdowns and seven interceptions playing quarterback for that Rams team was Sean McVeigh's offense. So I don't always look at stats and go, oh yeah, that's a great year. No, it's the context of that stats. I'm not gonna give Jared Goff a whole lot of credit when he throws a ball behind the line of scrimmage, the Todd Gurley and he runs for an eighty yard touchdown and go, oh, what a play. By Jared Goff. That was unbelievable. Oh, it's third and fifty. One hundred two screen to the house by Robert woods. What up play by Jared, don't say what to play by Jared Goff they might, I know, but that's where it gets lost in context because after the game people go look, Jared Goff played pretty awesome, and I'm not saying he didn't play. Awesome. I'm saying he played good. Yeah, but he played a full season though. Chris Garoppolo is played seven games. I, I get that. I just, I, you know, again, I'm just going off of, I think pure talent. And of course what I think that potential can be Goth is going in the right direction. I just I've always thought Garoppolo was a little more talented than a Jared Goff. I wasn't incredibly high on Jared Goff coming out in the draft, and I think you're going to see an explosion like we saw what Jared Goff. I'm Jimmy Garoppolo this year in that Kyle Shanahan offense. That system fits the skill set. So well, people are going to rank Jimmy Garoppolo higher than he should be at the end of this year too. Because his stats are going to be like thirty touchdown passes and eight interceptions and everybody go, wow. One of the best quarterbacks in football, and I don't care if he throws for forty touchdowns and five interceptions. He's not one of the five best no matter what happens at the end of the year, but he is going to inject himself into that conversation because people are going to look at stats and people don't always pay attention to context at this time, Jared Goff or does Shawn Watson, I go to Shawn Watson. Yeah, you're talking about? Well, I am telling you Watson, has a chance to be like I if we, if we went to two three years down the road, I wouldn't be shocked if you and me are on on the radio. Having a conversation about this Shawn Watson being the best quarterback in football. I think he has that type of potential. And I think what he did his little four and five game run last year, man, that was some Aaron, Roger issue type stuff. I saw out there with him making magic happen with his legs as arms, his leadership. You know, all of that. So where I thought, ooh, that is very, very special. And I think he's only scratching the surface of what he can be. I don't leave you with this Todd Gurley got paid. Is he the anomaly or running backs now going to get? Are they gonna move up now, the pay scale here, I do think they're gonna move up in the pay scale? I do. I think with the two running back committees that were in the running back by committee, we're seeing throughout the NFL. We're going to start seeing some of these top tier running backs. You know, be able to play a little bit longer because they're not going to be ground grinded into the ground like they were in the eighties and the nineties and early two thousands where they had such a short shelf life in the NFL girlies the best running back in the sport to me. So this is what I find it interesting is where it becomes we're Levy on bell..

Jared Goff Shawn Watson Todd Gurley Jimmy Garoppolo Chris Garoppolo football Sean McVeigh NFL Roger Rams Kyle Shanahan Aaron Levy Robert woods two three years eighty yard

"Just gotta keep that chemistry going and believes throughout the whole team a message team better in one of the things about the shawn watson watson that strikes me is in the last draft there was so many guys who thought he was the best qb and there are so many guys who come on the show who thought he wasn't gonna be able to transition to the next level and it reminds me of we're talking about darnold we're talking about roseanne we're talking about mayfield it's real easy to assess these guys after the fact it's real hard to do it in real time on draft night trubisky which i hate bringing up a bears fan obviously bears move up to get him to chase move up to get mahomes was ten and we'll see what mahomes is i'm pretty i'm pretty high on the guy we'll see and obviously the texans move up to twelve to get to shawn watson and so i wanted to ask the texans qb on the interview i did on the show the the tv show about this quarterback class about this group of guys about how you sort of try to see your way through this crowded field and find some separation and i asked him i asked to shawn watson in this upcoming draft class this next crop of quarterbacks who can be the most impactful the first guy out so like whatever team decides it's the take him he's gonna get an air surprised about a lot of coaches and also teammates i like he's a smart individual is smart quarterback has a tangible is around the ball and throw the ball make the decisions and of course there's gonna be things that you know he's gonna have to learn and be patient with continue to doing that myself and that every quarter i regardless of what system you come from i'm at this level but whenever he starts on a field he has said that he can't be stopped in that's what you gotta do especially at this love you'll have the right mindset and perform about.
