Volkswagen's Name Change Joke Didn't Land
"From brown and business wars daily on this monday april twelfth. Happy started the week. Everyone you know. Who's been having a tough april volkswagen matsue and as you may have that's mostly because they started the month with an april fools joke that fell flatter than a busted tire is started in the last days of march when the automaker quote accidentally unquote released a very serious sounding statement announcing that they'd be changing their name to volts wagon that's volts as in electricity. Now volkswagen's id for is the company's only electric model in the us market so far but the company is planning to build more and said that all future electric models would come emblazoned with their new name volts wagon now in eighty-three rolled company. Suddenly changing. Its moniker is suspicious right. But the name change announcement was so deadpan that it got picked up by the likes of cnbc. The bbc and the verge and all that publicity had an impact on the company's stocks. Volkswagen stock prices rose nearly five percent on the day the statement was released the ap reported but only hours later. A company spokesman confirmed that the name change was an early april. Fool's joke a joke. I should say that didn't quite land sea. Volkswagen isn't exactly held up as a model of corporate transparency. You may remember that in two thousand fifteen. The company installed deceptive software in its vehicles to cheat on government emissions tests that move launched a five-year fiasco. That cost volkswagen thirty. Five billion dollars led to the recall of millions of vehicles so volkswagen's been trying to dust off. Its image since then which makes this joke. Well puzzling to say the least and the us securities and exchange commission doesn't seem to have that much of a sense of humor. Manipulating the stock market is of course illegal. An even though it's not certain that manipulation was the intent behind volkswagen statement. The joke certainly swelled stock prices which could bring regulators knocking. But there's another automaker who's been there done that and is thriving that would be tesla which has in the past straight up to see the public in two thousand eighteen founder elon. Musk tweeted that. He had the funding to take tesla. Private stock prices surged ten percent. But it was later revealed that actually there was no such funding. Musket has company each over twenty million dollars in penalties to the sec. But today it seems like things are working out for tesla their social media the spotlight and their electric models are in last month. Wall street journal columnist dan. Neil took volkswagen the new. Id four for a spin and said tesla has nothing to worry about the id. Four is five years behind the comparable tesla you'll wrote and the engineering betrays a premature rush to market harsh words for volkswagen. Which of course has been angling of late to compete directly with tesla. Both automakers plan to open new european factories for their electric vehicles and volkswagen group

"Over. I've seen our boy. Brent decker and others Online and on twitter and inviting. You know about how golly they're getting hard to play against. That was the house from the very beginning. Bihar play against and through nine games they happen. And somehow they've scrapped their way to five and four so big picture thirty thousand foot level not the nitty gritty nine individual play. It feels a little bit like what we saw last year like man. These guys enjoy playing the pretty disciplined. They don't throw the ball all over the yard. Make a ton of mistakes. Gather overmatched it in some points. They're young guys are are not stepping up but just by and large big picture The playing the game the right way and because what they're five and four the bad. Vaccines vs Variants: Will They Work?
"Today on the show. Where pinning facts against visor and medina and johnson and johnson and astra zeneca. Yes more and more of us getting out shots and so we want to know. Will these vaccines save us or is the virus about to outsmart us again. Hey science versus. I got my first Ouchi a few weeks ago. We asked signs vessels listeners. What it was like to finally get the job. I received the first dose of my pfizer vaccine. My first dose of the moderna vaccine. Johnson and johnson one and john. When they gave me the shot. I was like tell me. When it's done in there like we already did it. And over and over again we had one word to describe how people felt relief relief. Just the relief and started crying in the waiting area. That just feels like word stepping out from under the dark cloud. I feel like i can actually breathe again. But at the same time there was a lot of confusion after all cases at taking up in the us and other parts of the world. I'm still nervous about that. Return to normal when they get full. Immunity is it safe to do exactly if i'm still nervous about possibly carrying the virus and giving it to someone unvaccinated and meanwhile we're hearing more and more about new mutations in this virus but some are saying can make it more deadly and help it spread foster and now people are wondering. Wait a sec if this virus is changing these vaccines we just got even gonna work.
Interview with Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky
"Talk to me about going forward and connecting people and the focus. You're putting on experiences but also on the lives you can create for your host. Who in part. I think are taking equity and becoming quite important for the brand. We've just heard in london here this week. That uber has said its drivers will become workers with benefits and minimum wage. So they're getting brought into the companies. So how do you sort of to advance the experience of your host but also the people that are using the platform to rent yet to great questions. Maybe i'll start with the second question host. And then i'll go to the first one the different like let's just take us versus uber. One difference in us an uber is the founders of uber created uber because they wanted to be writers another words they said it would be awesome if i could summon a black car so they started on the buyer side. We were totally opposite. My roommate and i weren't desiring to have a service like airbnb to travel because we were too broke to even want such a service. I mean we would have loved it but we were so broke. We just wanted to way to make money so we really started as host. So in that sense. I think this is a company of hosts by host for host and even if we have veered from that in the past. We're back there. And so i'm very proud of the fact that number one host have made one hundred and ten billion dollars on our platform since we started. That's pretty cool. The next thing. I'm saying i think it's cooler. Fifty five percent of that income has gone to women most ecommerce platforms. The vast majority economics. They're not evenly distributed on airbnb. The vast majority of income is outside the united states and more than half of it goes to women. it's a pretty diverse audience. We have four million host on airbnb. Ninety percent of our hosts are individual people so there is a question. How many of these are professionals. The answer is ten percent ninety percent of individuals. The most common careers are healthcare workers schoolteachers. In students these are the three most common professions that we've seen so these are truly everyday people like my parents. My parents are social workers. And it would make sense that people who need supplemental income would be everyday people for the most part one of the things we did before it went public. Is i got a piece of advice from somebody. They said. institutionalize your intentions. So that even as a public company you can minimize conflicts. Your vision and what they really meant was wants to go public. The cement of your company gets a little harden. What do you want to bake into the company before you go public. And i said one of the things i want to bake in is to create a host endowment. I want to set aside equity for host and so one of the things we did is we took nine point. Two million shares of airbnb equity and we put it into is essentially a airbnb host endowment kind of like a college endowment where it would grow every year but then some of the appreciation would get distributed into the host each year. So that was the idea that endowment is nearly two billion dollars today and growing. I hope it's one day. Larger than most college endowments and we created a host advisory board of seventeen host from fourteen countries to advise us on how to spend that money and reinvest it back to the host community. We also allowed host to invest in our ipo. And we had. I think it was fifteen thousand host. If i'm not mistaken who invested. They bought stock at sixty eight dollars. A share as you know the stock prices at the time of this recording around triple so those hosts have done really well and if i could allowed winning more host to invest in the whatever but we had some sec regulations that limited us and so these are just some of the many things we tried to do. But i just want to say like our commitment to host just beginning. Because i've committed to putting more than one hundred million dollars in my own equity into the host endowment and we're gonna continue to invest in our host because we are nothing without our host and in the end the day everybody's more of a community anything else i mean. Yeah we are a technology company in a sense but with people are buying isn't technology and they're not buying real estate we're not like zillow wh- senator of our company our host and our people and so that leads to the second question. What is airbnb about in. Where's it going when we started airbnb. Our first tagline was travel like a human. The idea was that you were like kind of treated for who you are. And you're seen for who you are valued for who you are and that was kind of the idea. I mean it was idealistic. But i can tell you. We definitely believed it in the early days and we realized that i had these two crazy ideas when we start airbnb. These crazy beliefs and people thought i was absurd. The first idea was we thought people were fundamentally good. That sounds kind of crazy because if you open any newspaper you wouldn't think they're good. People are good wise every headline about the worst of humanity. I think there was a famous quote by a former chief justice. The united states. You said i don't read the front page of the newspaper. I read the sports section. The front pages filled the man's failures. The sports pages. Filled man successes. I kind of feel like despite what we read in the news. People are funny. Good and i can tell you that we have the data to prove it. We probably more than anyone to prove what happens. When a hundred million people live together. Mostly good things sometimes bad things but statistically people are good and the second thing is true is that people are ninety nine point nine percent the same and you would never think that today given that we are so divided and yeah we spent a lot of time energy celebrating that point one percent. That makes us different. We call that culture in other things but let's not forget that we're mostly the same deep down and if you think people are good and their most the same then you'd believe that it's better to bring them together than divide them in separate them. That was the idea behind airbnb and so real estate and housing is just the beginning. We launched a few years ago. Airbnb experiences air experiences are essentially just three hour activities where you can have a host host. One other passions. You can go to tuscany. And make pasta with grandma grandma. Non an arena. Who's like an eighty plus year old grandmother who grew up during world war. Two and tells you about living in italy during the rise of fascism and then kind of what happened after and she tells you about her famous recipe and you make pasta in her house with and then you eat around the table this alternative to going to restaurants a pretty cool alternative so we have these like really interesting experiences and i think experiences is going to be a really really big product. I thought last year was going to break out year. But of course social distancing met we put on pause but we're looking at many new ways to try just connect people again. I think this is one of the loneliest times in human history right now. I think most people listening would probably say they felt some type of loneliness in the last year. We've been so separated. And i think in life we sometimes appreciate things when they're taken away from us and human connection and travels been taken away from us and i hope that makes us value at more than ever before and i'm pretty concerned about the amount of isolation happening and i don't think that social media and digital connections are fully nourishing. We actually do need real connection with real people. And i actually think it's good. Connect people are different than you. If you wanna like bridge the divide in any country. The best answer. I've heard is to just walk in other people's shoes don't argue over the internet. No one's ever changed. Someone's mind on a youtube comment section to my knowledge. But how could you not change your mind when you walk in someone. Just home live in their home walk. In their shoes do their activities. You may not agree with them but you will find that. Most of them are good and they're mostly just like you deep
Head Coach Eli Drinkwitz on Missouri Tigers' Past Season
"It seems like yesterday that we were talking. And i thought i think people agreed your season run very well. You may not have gotten quite the one the winds that you were hoping for but if we could look back for a second what did you take away from from twenty. Yeah you know. I think we exceeded expectations. I think there was a lot of people when we saw this. C- schedule all sec. Schedule come out with what we were dealing with the ncaa sanctions and all that stuff You know the to finish five and five in the league i think we exceeded the expectation But we didn't meet the standard obviously moving forward The goal of this program is to compete for the sec. Nobody plays Football to play for second. And we're in a really good division a really tough division. And i know you know at the top of that georgia and florida but We gotta make room for our self in the sec. And that's why i'm here They didn't bring me here to play for six or seven. We're we're here to try to play first in. So that's that's really the the standard This past year. Like i said we exceeded expectations. I think we're finished To to pick last or second to last in our division we finished third Finished six in the sec but We got to continue to improve. We're not going to get there. You know in one major step we got continue to take it one bite at a time and in bringing in coach wilkes on the defense side of the ball continue improve on the offensive side of the ball become more explosive score more touchdowns in the red zone. Be better than situational football. If we can make those steps. I think we can put ourselves in a position to contend you know if you look at the halftime scores against the two teams. The two top teams in the sec. It's twenty one to fourteen against georgia And then we didn't show up in the second half in florida we. We had a turnover right before half time to make it twenty two seven And we didn't show up in the second half we got gotta be a team that shows up in the second half and if we can do that and then we can make our place in the sec.
Episode 92 Its Raining Talismen - burst 02
"Called luck that which literally translates to child angels and people believe they are talismans that bring good fortune and protection and they are pampered by their owners as if they were children. I'm going to get into that. Also here in a little bit reminds me of those collectors that collect those lifelike dolls. And yes and these. Things are kind of creepy. And we'll post a picture of him well so you might ask then. How are these. Things supernatural well. They get blessings from buddhist monks of course after purchasing a doll the owner brings it to one of the monks who conducts a prayer and anointing ceremony known known as a public sec.

Aligning Your Money & Values With Kathleen McQuiggan of Artemis Advisors
"Women are known for spending their money focused on helping others and the community as well as making more money. Men tend to just focus it on making more money. Women have always been values based investors. I remember this. When i worked at bear stearns and american express deloitte by the way i did campaigns on women and well women have always been values based investors and now the rest of the world is catching on it's called. Espn investing for environment society and governance focused investing basically designed around the un development sustainable development goals or the sdg in fact the sec the securities and exchange commission now has its first head of es g an investing is outperforming other strategies including even in this economy. So how does it work. I'd like you to meet cathleen mcguigan. She is a wealth advisor at artists financial group and a woman. Who's been in my world about these issues for several years. Previously she was in the packs. World investing as head of global women's investing and ran global women's index fund and prior to that. She spent thirteen years at goldman sachs welcomed green catches radio kathleen. Thank you for joining us. Finally thanks for having me and it's great. It's great to finally have this conversation. I appreciate it. So let's start with defining some terms so that people are were were were not losing people define investing for people who aren't familiar with it and talk about the power. Sure angie investing. And i i should do the disclaimer. I feel like you know the financial services industry we use so much jargon acronyms and you know i think sometimes people just get overwhelmed by not understanding some of the inside lingo and you know. I think it's important that people realize that you said earlier right you. Your money is power and women need more of both and sustainable investing which is how we refer to it at artists. And i think this is an emerging sort of language. It isn't bit of alphabet soup. But if you think of sustainable investing what back in the seventies was known as socially responsible investing what is sometimes being referred to now as impact investing. You these things are starting to mean different things. But i'll use sustainable and responsible investing is kind of a general framework for explaining how in the investment process in addition to looking at the traditional financial. Metrics that most organizations would use in making investment decisions sustainable and responsible investing ads. On what i say as an additional layer and it adds on looking at a accompanies in mental. Which is the social. Which is the ass and governance. Which is the g so these. E s g factors as are commonly referred to to be incorporated in the overall investment process or Analysis environmental social and governance factors are additional things that get analyzed and looked at for people to make decisions as to where they want place their buddy so i think of this and i tried to explain it to people as think of it as adding more of the things that were looking at to decide what is good company that we may or may not want a purchase or use an additional set of factors in analyzing investments.

Notable Developments on the College Basketball Coaching Carousel Scuttlebutt
"A lot of movement on the coaching carousel. Over the past couple of days the big. One of course was indiana firing archie miller. After four seasons. We talked about that on a previous podcast. So go find it. We're not going to spend any time on that here but let me walk you through the other notable developments richard patino out at minnesota and as up tuesday morning. He's the new coach at new mexico. State has quote parted ways with steve. Prohm depaul finally took. Dave laid off the hot seat list. Boston college hired earl. Grant penn state hired mike castrucci berry dead leg spin a pretty good right now. It's spinning man. Yeah listen we give the. We are gearing up for this tournament. We got we got more than forty eight hours till. We're gonna tip the first game here so as expected. We've had some movement on the carousel. So we'll let's get into a little bit of this This scuttle but here kind of take it job by job. Best job openings indiana. Let's kind of go in order. I guess second best job. That's open. I would say iowa state is a better job than minnesota steve. Prohm gets fired late monday night. His jamie pollard was on the selection committee so he traveled back as he should have to meet with promo person and do what he what needed to be done You and i both seven the podcast in january. We expected steve prone to return next season. But we also didn't expect iowa state to never win a game like he just got to an irreversible point. so he's done. He put out a classy statement on tuesday morning. And i don't know whether or not steve prohm will land somewhere else head. Coaching position this coaching cycle but he will be a head coach again. He did take iowa state to three inch tournaments he was really good prior to that at murray state and certainly qualified for. It's just a matter of Is there anything out there. That he would be offered or anything out there that he would want as for the job. The candidates we're early. But i'm told that this is certainly a coach that you know quite well as well i'm told jamie pollard definitely will be considering. Unlv head coach. Tj burger near the top of his list. I can't say that he is the favorite. I just think that it's objectively true. That tj also burger will be under consideration for the iowa state job along the likes of. You're going to hear puerto moser connected to multiple jobs on this podcast because let's face it especially if he wins at least one tournament game. He's just a hot name. And he's going to be attached to iowa st paul minnesota. I i don't know if you'd be a favorite for state. But i think his name makes sense. I think utah. State's craig smith might make sense and then a high. I do have a wildcard one. Uab's andy kennedy has gone to the sec. Good job at ole miss. He's just one year and at uab but he had he had a really good year. In fact i think he won more games in his first season. This past season than just about anyone. Maybe all of all of the first year coach coaches. So i think that's a fact no first year coach at a new program. One more games this season than ak i. It's just i'm lobbying out. There is a name that should be considered. And then i did see fran for shila tweet this and i do. I do think there's something to it. Like a baylor is a one seed could be in the final four. Hey first time since bill henderson all that good stuff tang is a is a high level power conference assistant that is deserving of an opportunity would come at a power conference level. I don't know. But i think it's only a matter of time before jerome tank. Its job as well. So i'm just tossing him in knows the league as potentially someone that They should consider or at least at the very least interview sets an initial pool of
2021 College Basketball Bracketology With Jay Bilas
"Feels like you might be the busiest man in america right now. So thank you for making some time for me man. I appreciate it but busiest mannered. America's this is the best time of year. So i'm happy to be busy. Jay bilas is literally and figuratively towering. Figure in the world of college basketball so it is about nine forty five pm eastern on selection sunday. You've been on tv all day. I've seen you offering wisdom's. I've seen you gas bagging as you yourself from time and again i'm curious jay. How long does it take you to fill out your bracket while we have to do it in about two minutes one. We're on the air during this brattle. G selection show. So i it's sort of the the first thoughts that you have and and you wind up picking an upset or to In each region in the first couple of days. But then i wind up going pretty chalky after that and And then i'll i write an article called the more than five minute bracket where i think about it for more than a couple of minutes and And i don't do any better. So i'm not sure that my My first instincts aren't are just as good well. I'm glad to get you somewhere between the first and second drafts of history. Because i'm staring at an empty bracket you have hastily filled out yours and i want to get into this because we have the top four seeds gonzaga baylor illinois michigan their top lining the four geographic regions jay. That aren't really geographic regions this year. Because everybody's gonna be crammed into indianapolis in something that feels bubble like is there one team among those four top seeds. That seems feels the most vulnerable to you. Yeah michigan Because of isaiah livers You don't know what this stress reaction and his foot whether he's gonna play and if he does play whether he's going to be the same. I mean machines a good team without him but they're elite offensively with him Because of how skilled he is He's a good passer. Good cutter good square. He's a terrific scorer but without him I think there are a lot more beatable if you will And they have a different. I i do think they have somewhat of a difficult path. alabama is the to in their region and And i think alabama has got a very good chance to to reach a final four What's what's the best thing. I think bobby for the the big ten teams as they're out of the big ten now and they don't have to they don't have to beat each other up and they can go take a swing at somebody else. And i think they're all gonna like that. So i wanna get into the alabama thing. You just mentioned it. They're sitting right below michigan as the two seed and jay. I'm still staggered by. I guess the following collection of words second-seeded alabama versus fifteen seeded. Rick pitino and iona. So let's take the first half of that matchup. I people know alabama obviously as a football institution the football institution. What they know about their basketball team. Yeah alabama is is really talented and really good This year in basketball. Their coach nate. Oats is a math guy. He is an analytic sky. So last year they shot ton of threes. He believes in free throws open threes and layups and And so they're not a lot of mid range shots taken But this year. They're they're excellent defensively. That may be the best part of their team is. They can really guard their long armed and athletic on the wings. They've got a player named herbert jones. who has always been a really good defender. He's six eight He's really kind of a point guard at six eight and he does everything. He's kind of a triple double type player and defensive player of the year. In the league in the sec. And the player of the year in the league And i think he makes them different. So they're legit. They could have been a one seed worthy of it but because of how good baylor gonzaga have been they were they were locks and then And then how. How good michigan wound up being and then illinois. I don't think anybody would argue with those four is number one seeds but alabama was the clear Fifth overall so the other

"It's ncaa tournament time we had championship. Week was absolutely spectacular. You had a championship game. That wasn't so spectacular in america conference by the big twelve was tremendous big. Ted was tremendous. Because you know what those two leagues are tremendous all season. Long games aren't games. they're events the acc was anti climactic but great for josh passenger and the greatest shield in the history of life. The big east to me was phenomenal. I mean patrick ewing. Not only does he no longer needed credential again but he got into madison square garden and walked away with four games in four days and his team played like an old vintage georgetown team. Pac twelve stolen a bid which was really cool. Wayne tinkle's got it was who was on the hot seat. It was so cool is good coach. A good person attack boil. Who's another great guy still going tournament. So i thought championship week was absolutely spectacular. Your take oh. I thought it was great. I look. I'm gonna tell you houston's legit at chance due to their games including the championship game in the ac. That is a legitimate. I was happy that drake dot in. I was happy that twenty five and four guy in. I thought that was terrific. I love the fact that the drew brothers are in the tournament. The demolishing of creighton shocked the living in. Hell on me. And says i'm telling you i like when you lose guys mclaughlin aquino record and next thing you know man. What are you doing better. The next year matt pain and getting himself in the top four seeds after losing two guys eastern and harms but overawe a look championship. Week was the sec. Tournament was off the charts with the championship. Game and college basketball delivers it delivers every damn nights. Let's go to the west ready. Let's do it all right now. Let's do this number one seat. I was thinking what games in the upper half of the west. Are you looking forward to see. I wanna see what. Oklahoma can do eight nine game now. Maybe it doesn't matter because you're gonna play gonzaga. But i think this i think if you're gonna play along krueger team whether you're konso martyn missouri. Who has struggled or whether you're gonzaga. You know you're going to play a very very good basketball team. And i had them earlier in the year they can shoot it. They defend it. They play hard. I don't think they're overly talented and the kid to get something done but lon kruger is so good at dictating pace. That if i'm sitting here with gonzaga i wanna lesser coach in my second round game assuming that they win. What do you got. Well you know i actually. I think missouri can win that game. A jeremiah tells me he's going to have to go out guard on out on a primitive 'cause they're playing brady at the five and they've run them all over the place on the other side though rate mattis gutter guard that dude on the block to is become a good player control martin's team when they're older and more mature and her physical they are talking tournament. Think about what he did tennessee. So you know this is going to be really good game because you've got a tough physical team in missouri. You've got a team that attacks match ups plays almost four guards in oklahoma. I'm actually leaning towards missouri in this match up. Well you're going to be wrong and that's okay you can be. It's okay. I can be wrong. It will be the first time won't be the last time and you know that's right. I don't have either. We'll on from barry. I but i touched on that but also got to say tony bennett said that most of his team is in quarantine south. Now i don't know about you but that preston kid that plays at ohio university. Ooh yeah he can go and all of a sudden. You're talking about a team that wait a second. I know i know. Virginia's good. I know virginia came on. I know they ended up with the one seat in the acc tournament. But seth you're playing against a hot as hell ohio university team. A team led by jeff bowls. Who frankly he's the perga- guide ohio you because he loves ohio you. He played there with the with the shock of the mac. But when you're playing a team in quarantine sat that tells me they're not practicing. That tells me this is gonna be a hats. This'll be a good game regardless.

NCAA Men's Basketball SEC Tournament Update
"Let's give you an update on what is going on right now and what has already gone on. Florida and tennessee are locked into a matchup. And it's starting to look like the other day when they met in knoxville tennessee where they thirteen point lead both are safely in the ncaa tournament. This is really about seeding. Tennessee could could move. Move up a little bit and the gators right now are somewhat on that eight nine line so if you missed it earlier. Alabama just destroyed mississippi state at time. I think it was like forty nine to seventeen at half leading stewart. Kansas splits with athletic director Jeff Long two days after parting ways with Les Miles
"Get you updated on what is happening in lawrence kansas. Where less mild was let go the other day and then this afternoon the man who hired him and presumably let him go has also been shown. The door crisslow joining us on that story and others. Chris thanks for the time. Always good to have you on and give us the latest. How did how did how did this happen. So quickly with jeff long. It's great to be with you. Always i I really felt like we heard the news about less miles that this was just it was going to happen with jeff law and just did not senior way. He would survive. I think what happened in a lot of donors a kansas at the end of the day. The president a chance to learn. Douglas giradi heard from several influential donors that they just did not want to be the guy to hire the next head football coach and i think when you look back sort of having all the down with less weight ended there that The more that they thought about it. And i think jeff athletics look long enough to know he said in a statement. Today was going to be a huge distraction more hung around and and they wanna make a clean break. Bring somebody else in to hire the knicks head football coach. Oh by the way they got issues the basketball program. Well they certainly do. And i saw her. Danny manning announced that he was a contender for the ad job. But as we. I don't know whether tennessee is the template but you do need an athletic director to get in there. Fairly quickly don't you. Yeah you don't the what's your proverbial tail wagging the dog. So yeah you gotta bring somebody else somebody. And it's going to be the ad someone that's that's gonna be the football coaches boss. I tell you name to keep in mind. Travis goff and northwestern we went to kansas undergrad. There how highly respected and sort of in the world. And he's a guy that you're going to hear a lot of push for from donors from influential people there k you to bring in to come in higher this the next head football coach. I think a guy will be certainly equipped to deal with. What's going to come their way on the basketball front as well talking to crisslow chris. Let me just take a step back and go back in time time to lsu and unless miles and after this information dumped the other day and learning much more about what happened down there and what didn't happen. I'm curious as a reporter who has covered so many scandals in so many so many big stories in college football just your your takeaway from from the progression of that program with with joe alita and less miles to to really where it is now and where does it go to try to clean up a rather tattered reputation. Yeah you think back to two thousand eleven ten years ago paul. Lsu's on top of the world now. Granted they lost alabama national championship. But that was a great football team In in a team that was is elite as it gets and now here. We are ten years later and they won the championship last year. But a lot of things off the field. A lot of things going on you know you. You always felt like there at the end of his tenured. Lsu that there was a lot of people. They're out to get him. When i say out to get him that wanted to move on. I just felt like they could do better. But as you know you know the sec. As well as anybody yeses. He thinks they can do better. Except for maybe in tuscaloosa And i think the some of the political forces around lsu sorta helpless. We're on his side to leave. Certainly it and four games the sixteen season they got it in. You heard jimbo. Fisher's name all sorts of aim. Tom herman the end up with a lot of people felt like that was never going to work with all the old winter national championship last year and really a great job assembling people going out and getting staff around in but now here we are off the field with this complete invested in investigation. As some of the way things have been handled with sexual assault domestic incidents going back before was head coach So you're right. There's there's a lot on their at lsu Just like kansas. You've got issues with the basketball team as well So it's It's a mess right now. We'll see where it all
Kansas Coach Les Miles Out Over Behavior With Women While at LSU
"And hello and welcome back. We continue to talk about the situation in kansas Formerly lsu were less. Mild is under employed in case. You missed it earlier. The headlines of course have been screaming since last night that les miles in kansas have mutually parted ways. That's a rather benevolent way of putting less were shown the door. He had a disastrous. Run there but it was what happened. In two thousand thirteen at lsu that ultimately got him fired. Reuss feldman has covered less miles for a very long time in bruce. Thanks so much for the time shafran we want to talk to you about including your pizza just hit about the the nfl mock draft. But let's start with less miles not a surprise. But what do you think Finally pushed kansas over the edge and And did away with less after what has been coming out for days if not weeks from baton rouge untenable this the idea. Kansas jeff long's the ad there obviously sec. Fans will remember from his time at arkansas. It's just been an abysmal run. And the fact that has searched process get less miles there in the first place was kind of a jolt in kind of a head scratcher but now after what had come out from Over the weekend. And friday from the lsu part of this. I don't know how in twenty twenty one kansas could say. Oh yeah we're okay with that just even if you look at the wording on how jeff long explained the move last night it was just like we got to win more games. It was like wait a minute. There were some really Disgraceful actions that are alleged against less miles from his time at lsu. And i don't know how they could look the other way with a straight face and say okay this a guy who the lsu administration had clearly put some you know unique situations around him and stipulations in dealing with people and some of those allegations are so troubling and so disturbing. I really think they had no choice but to move on. And the wording parted ways whatever they just had to make a change and get him out of there. And i'm suspect at some point in the nazi just future an after avenue. Ad as well. Yeah that was. Obviously a lot of people are going now and you know jeff. Long didn't exactly distinguish himself at arkansas. Were shown the door there and surprisingly or maybe not. Surprisingly the program has been on fire under hunter year. Check but i mean how can you. How can you possibly keep jeff long on the job after mean and football's only part of the problem. The basketball program has been under fire for years. Exactly i mean there's issues with the ncaa and the basketball program ac- basketball is a bigger deal there than football. But i think in this. It's so many issues. That are layered together. And i think it's the tone-deaf aspect Jeff lungs long relationship with last miles The allegations in the things in those investigations about less. They are really disturbing. Act act especially as they relate to student workers there. I think it's really troubling and the fact that k. You in jeff. Along the way it was explained. Even if you look back i think over the weekend. Less miles attorney gave us gave a statement that i think makes may kansas look quite honestly even worse that they kind of knew about it and that they were okay with it was almost like well because other people were alarmed by now that it was that it was something that was like shouldn't have happened just because of the perception on it i just think it all of it is made that tenure. Look so sketchy. And i just don't know how your kansas how you don't kind of rip the band aid off at this point and say hey we gotta make a different a different move here. I just think right now you look at it yes the. Ncaa extended the dead period much longer. So they don't really have to rush in through this coaching search process. But who's going to be making the new head football coach higher in this. I mean this is a lot of stuff for the kansas administration to sort out as they move on not just from last miles but i think as they move in a different direction for. Who's in charge of the parliament.

"Somebody's going to step up. And you're always gonna get the stuff from cue. Morrison gabby connolly so that's constant that's got. Yeah they against ole miss most. Recently they found balance to your point with the depth at least six players scored eight points. That was seventy three to fifty. Seven and ole miss is having a better season this year but the big test is coming up and you guys will be calling georgia's bout with a south carolina coming up on thursday. Do they have shot a mean in in the gamecocks looked great. Let's we aren't even gonna talk a lot about south carolina. Do that on our last pocket. We'd know what they have coming in and it seemed like they have really been stepping up to the play on the national stage as recent away way they have the teams The way that elliott. Boston is playing. But does georgia have shot near lynn At at pulling a big upset laterna thing. It's going to depend on how the post game for georgia place. Because they got to deal with. And i call her baby alien boston inside. And that's not just on the blot. Emmy she has expanded her games. She shooting a three mid range. She's a monster on the glass right so now. How is georgia going to either genus. Mallory bates javon. Nicholson or morgan. Port of those four. Can they bring a solid post game. Because that's where south carolina likes to get their points from is in the paint so george is to have to really shut some things down. And we know in the sec. You kinda gotta pick your poison. You go okay. I've got to stop everything. I'm going to have to give up something and you would've fought coming into this game that georgia might think i'm gonna pack the paint. I'm gonna make greet bill shoot the ball. Well have you seen her stats in the last two games. That's not an option anymore either. Nineteen points per game. There you go. So that's where you know georgia's going to have to number one rebound with south carolina and that's a tall task and then you've got to control the tempo and then score against their stingy defense. Yeah lots of talk. Go ahead cordoning. I think it's gonna be a big test for genus stadi- because we've seen her against a big inside presence of tennessee. It didn't go that well so now you're going to go face it inside presence of a lien boston. Who's better than tennessee's posts. So what can jinnah stayed. You can step up to the challenge. That's a big question for georgia. And i know that ep is always talking about the battling to paint. She loves it inside. But so your point. I mean i don't know if i've seen two more impressive performances against a ranked team this season as we've seen a south carolina both against number fifteen arkansas and beating kentucky at kentucky. Pretty handily. Detonating anderson is the player that has really stood out to be with her speed and her fearlessness at how he plays the game attack the rim. I mean i coming into the season. Everyone's okay south. Carolina is going to be number one but we knew that they were missing some pretty important Wnba first round draft picks last year. So you don't just come back. Missing hair is missing. Kiki in north into exactly where you were so i think it took some time to get into a flow but I'll be curious to see what happens in that contest. Now elsewhere in the sec. L. you really turn some heads taking down texas. A&m which. I thought the last minutes of that game. I thought pointer made some really T-bone defensive and offensive stops that was. Lsu's third straight win over texas cnn. They kind of have their number a little bit though to me. This is the best texas an emt might seen in recent years and lsu weld them to sixty one points taxes stadiums lowest lowest point total of the season their lowest one against top five for a little while in corny. You think this is the lsu. Make some noise look. Lsu makes you play ugly. And that's that's a direct quote from tennessee head coach kelly harper. I mean they are a defensive team. They come in. They take the air out of the basketball. We saw that. We had them against missouri. On monday we saw them. Take control of that game that way. So i think that gives. Lsu fighting chance in any game. What most impressed me about the texas a&m when they out rebounded texas. We're talking about a team. Who has sierra johnson and india jones who is one of the best rebounders i have ever watched. And they got out rebounded by lsu. That was the thing that was most impressive to me. Yeah india jailed reminds me of a tall are mentally price. I don't know about you caroline. But she's got that kind of athleticism but just in a bigger body in energy. Yes andy energy as well any concern or did you see anything happening with lsu their cpa that they need to address moving forward. Excuse me texas a&m. While taking care of the basketball and turnovers was a big issue in that game. And you've got to look at you gotta compliment nikki argus She finds a way to defend you and more times than not. She is keeping her opponents below their season average and one is because courtney said take an era of the ball but her defensive strategy that she uses because she will play a match up zone. There will be times that she may switch within a possession going from zone to manda band and then offensively she. Allies teams spend a lot of time with their scouting report. Trying to figure out what is. Lsu running you know what lsu's running they're finding mismatches in isolation they're just running things to get who'd i want guarding a particular player. And then they take advantage of that and now the roles are being defined for lsu early on by loss games because it was a free for all everybody was pulled the trigger. Now they understand where the basketball needs to get a team in the sec. That wants to play lsu china. There's not a team that wants to play lsu. Hey muck it up. And as to caroline's point when you start changing those defenses. I saw this yesterday was syracuse. We thought they were gonna play is almost of the game. They ended up playing. Man totally messed up north carolina's whole mindset. They didn't know what defense they were in. They didn't run their long enough to figure it out. That can be a scary place to be and we also may see the movie cardinals. Do a little bit of that too on thursday night on. Espn two because that's one thing that jeff walls likes to mix up those defenses but lsu has south carolina and georgia coming up next. That's all. I have a feeling that will find out a lot about the tiger last but not least as we are talking about some of the emerging teams in the sec electronic robinson here with carolyn peck and courtney lyle mississippi state is having some trouble. They've averaged sixty points per game. Shot eight thirty eight percent from the field in their two recent losses to alabama and texas. Am their forty one points. In the loss to an was their lowest point total since march twenty six teen twenty seven percent field. Goal percentage against am am was their lowest since january. Two thousand fourteen. Now those numbers are deceiving because we have a new head coach different players. all the above. Is there reason to be concerned in in starkville. I don't think there's a reason to be concerned. I think that like you said having a new coach. Nikki nikki mccray. Pinson is her first year. Coaching as the head. Coach.

"That's used to document that. This eight k is just notifying the sec. End investors that. Look we know. It's not our ten q or our ten k filing period right now but we just had this significant event occur. So we're going to tell you the sec. End our investors about so. That's what the ak forum does it. It notifies people about significant events that occur take for example the company salesforce recently acquiring slack then within four days of that acquisition salesforce and slack were required to fill out eight k forms. Officially notifying the sec. Ender investors of the aquisition. Okay let's recap. We talked about three types of scc forms today. Scc forms are forms required by the securities and exchange commission of the united states that regulates publicly traded companies or companies that publicly sell stocks in the united states. The first two forms with the ten forms each company has its own fiscal year. And every quarter of that fiscal year it reports. What's happened in the business and for the first second and third quarters. The company's given forty five days to file a ten q but at the end of the fourth quarter whenever the fiscal year is ended the company's then given ninety days to instead file a ten k report which is full of financial statements and summaries but of course as with any business there will be significant events that occur in between those quarters so the form that serves to report. Those events is the eight k for him and all of these forms that are filed with the sec can be accessed by anyone by just going over to the sec website and searching for the company just by entering its stock symbol or its company name and then searching by form time. I hope you enjoyed that episode and learn something from it. If you're looking for recommendations for good investing and business books. They finished at fourteen and sixty so. That's a huge huge joke and they were turned nine players. So when we look at that you know that kind of that path to success that trend upwards. This is a team that is doing just that so of those nine returning led by their senior guard chelsea hall. She led the team in assists last season. Just under four game and coil. "One fan vote and we'll shift gears to the pac twelve. Finally saw the pac twelve open their season over the weekend. And greg what's your key takeaway. Well with the disappointing performance. See until the last two minutes. I gotta go with with the fact. That oregon is kind of illegal their own. I'm looking at a team. That's really good. Along the line of scrimmage they lose panay soule best left tackle. In america they continue just pound stanford into submission i know stanford was without some of their key weapons and key pieces because covid but all things considered man. I wasn't real sure about oregon at this point. Thought they would around themselves in the form as the season goes along because of how they want to control. The tempo patrol the line of scrimmage but for them to start this strong with that kind of momentum. That's a scary thing for teams that are going to be facing that physical bunch there the oregon ducks i was really surprised at. Usc surprised with the amount of players. They have coming back. Keaton slow in his second season after throwing thirty touchdowns last year. Saint brown outside vaughn's outside top couple. Running-backs bag an experienced defense. Return at eight or nine guys. I've really expected you to come out in at least be explosive on the offensive side and they weren't as a lotta underneath rose It was a lot of it and when you look at it honestly the things that happened in the game the tip pass on a fourth down touchdown to kick an onside kick and get that in the perfect pass on fourth down to score and win that game. You don't see that very often so they'll build on that. But i was really surprised where they looked in their opening game. And now we have all power five conferences underway. I will tell you three. Sec games postponed this weekend. Just as we start at lsu alabama the headliner. See you tomorrow. Everybody have a great night..

And you know what we did last week, we let them back the big ten. We welcome back the big ten. It's almost like that's that's a good idea. So you spoke of tidal waves. Let's go ahead and start welcoming back some of the SEC teams. We'll just welcome back off the top.

"Our SEC what changed corrected it I mean it got real overnight flown here seven hundred WLW of course the corona virus first and foremost here were at a higher alert level this morning after a crazy day yesterday and especially crazy evening last night the corona virus pandemic hitting home earlier in the day we knew there was a fourth case but we learned it was a case of community spread and what that means is this guy north got it without a direct contact with someone who is known to have covert nineteen or even traveled further I had no idea how he picked the virus up and yet he has it so that kind of change things markedly and then in quick succession as the president spoke last night announcing that traveled from most of Europe outside the U. K. has been suspended opening day Saint Patty's day parade cancel the N. B. C. N. B. A. season was suspended there's no fans allowed at high school tournaments college chairman in March madness is well now governor to line declaring a state of emergency mayor Cranley did it as well and that now all health professionals in Cincinnati are on the highest alert possible and one of those include Dr Lakshmi Sammarco who is the head of the county coroner Dr morning how are you good morning are we prepared as a country but more specifically as a county for this you know we've never seen this in our lifetime right this is a pandemic of proportions we haven't seen that happen you're really be prepared but that being said I think that we're in a good position I think these early actions put is in a much better position than just sort of sitting there saying well let's just see how it goes because the ending the mass gathering is going to prevent in a huge explosion of cases like we've seen in Italy we time China wary yeah I think that if the had been worried about it a couple of weeks or three weeks before and just said Hey no map gatherings maybe the outcome would have been different but you know either lessons are learned and I are community leaders are learning them and taking appropriate action and I totally support what governor no one is doing I think that is you know I I realize there's going to be huge economic impact that you know my concern is the human impact and that's what we're trying to lessons yeah and that makes sense I think this would be a great question for you because a someone is on the front line of this is all it is the fact that we have a severe PPHS personal protective equipment shortage things like masks and gowns and that the average person is buying this stuff up that's got to be concerned for health care professionals because if healthy people are buying and holding on importing that stuff and I get why they would do that but if they're doing that that means those people who are at the most risk for contracting this or spreading this aren't going to have the equipment they need well I mean it is a good point in this is kind of why I made the comment I did yesterday but first of all is the average person is buying masks do they even know how to use up to name their whiny should use the mark who should use them I mean I think the CDC has been pretty clear in saying if you're sick or you think you're sick and you don't want to contaminate people around you wear a mask there are a lot of people that are wearing masks trying to prevent themselves from getting sick from other people but unless you're within three succeeded somebody coughing and sneezing that math is not going to help you from getting sick if you continue to touch your face with contaminated hands dancing in the touch that mask from the outside with their hands and then touch your face the protection of the map so you know insurances are you gonna be mass with the mass because their damn I mean I I use it when I'm standing or what you know to run it and they're uncomfortable yeah and and that makes people think it the trees it's uncomfortable so you know you can do it unconsciously just grabbed the mask and try and reject it so and the you know the people that are they really need and the people in the trenches the people in the health care workers at hospitals and hospitals will get them I mean they have to be creative looking for suppliers sometimes because it's not as maybe their main suppliers out may have to look for other suppliers but the state of emergency also makes it easier for government institutions to be able to purchase those kind of things without having to go through a bidding process so it makes that a little bit easier but in the end you know you want your health care workers to be protected because if they're not in the hospital waiting for you when you get sick going to be there what is your role doctor smarts America in in what's happening right now because it is I understand it if someone dies because a corona virus it's not like you're going to perform an autopsy because I guess that would be a natural cause are you a consultant on there what what's your role and I want you know most people think oh my gosh pork elektrische markers to be busy as hell and and that may not be the case is going to be another things right is it what's your role models you're absolutely right coronavirus staff are considered natural death and so they would not be corner cases however we are all part of the learning from that and learning from disease and trying to assess and prevent death so I think that the coroner's offices around the state have a crucial role in epidemiology and recognizing the severity of some diseases and where we're not what we're doing is not working and I think that's where we come in for me personally looking at my community I'm trying to see what I can do to bring people together to to learn and also to approach this as a team I think every hospital system needs to be at the table with the insurer and the county health leaders and say what we need to come together and come up with a plan one plan and that we can all you know an act and we all help each other and in any way shape and form and there's none of this well that's that hospitals within this hospital system that's not part of our network that's not part of it now I mean this whole thing of in network out of network that does not apply to a pandemic and that's the message that you know I'd really love to see the insurance companies in our area step up to the plate and say we're going to do what it takes right right I think that's going to be the case you know we often bemoaning you know yeah I know you're running for re election I think you're on oppose your gear slam dunk but but it's a political season everyone's at it as a stress I I think that this takes that edge off because these are the worst times politically in my lifetime when people at each other's throats and now the sun we have a common enemy here much like nine eleven and what we know it's changes of lease and a brief in the short term what we're about and now we're starting to see hopefully going to start to see Republicans and Democrats work together in this well I think I think you will I hope you will it's this is never been a political you know eight years in this office I have never seen this as a politically real charge office or what we do to be political and I then I still maintain that this is nothing to do with it but you know what can we do to save as many lives as possible and to prevent the disease from spreading so you know all of these actions stopping the the major get together is you know Hey I'm a huge red pants and I've been at those opening day parade I've been in the parade I've been at the opening day games and it's very disappointing to me as well as you know hundreds of thousands of other people right the first trading lines first and if that means that we put aside a hundred year old tradition that we do and and you know right now we have to concentrate on the vulnerable populations and each other I'm trying to keep each other safe and do what we can for not just our families for our community and for those that can't take care of themselves and you know we we have a lot of elderly people in our communities and we have to do our absolute damnedest date trying to keep them safe and not exposed yeah I agree and I think along those lines to the elderly is also the the homeless in jail population because I mean you could imagine it if we have a case of coronavirus actively working inside the hamlet county jail let's say okay that is going to spread literally like wild flower throughout the jail anses among the homeless population I would think as well how do we protect the that that that segment of society you know we are we we had this discussion yesterday actually the homeless population are in shelters and I knew and some of them don't go to shelters they need to be able to access them sanitary area and so they need to be able to get to sink wash our hands in water and do the best they can not to huddle in tight spaces with a lot of other people because they're really going to spread the disease and in shelters that's a very difficult thing not to do and you know there's going to be a shortage of shelter volunteers and you know I have a real concern that some of the shelters are going to be able to stay open and that presents a huge problem so I know that other states have looked into doing portable testing I know that other countries have had national like tents set up of the word triage and and for testing and when it comes down to it it's not something that's remote you know it's it's there in our minds and if we have to do what we have to do it and I I I get that but the problem is this right is it's not like well the homeless or people in jail and I think if people don't well who cares about people in jail what about you know what about people who didn't break the law well the problem is if it gets in the jails we have all sorts of people everything is working in the jails are now that spreads disease so it's not just you you gotta love the most vulnerable populations because that's gonna affect the rest of us yeah actually here yeah your available as the most vulnerable person in your community right because we talk about the rate limiting step or the the least common denominator however you whatever you wanna call it it's still one person they can spread the disease to thousands of people and and that happened in other communities and so that's what we need to.

"Do you feel that that has brought more clarity? The opposite, the framework that the SEC has most recently discuss. I don't think makes it possible for someone to know in advance, which side of the line, they're falling on it, it is a very large number of different factors that the SEC says it will consider in making judgment, but it doesn't actually tell anyone where the line is in. So I don't think that guidance actually helps people know in advance whether a given offer or sales won the SEC's say involves an investment contract. And I also wanted to ask in general about this choice to go to court. Do you think that this route would be antagonise kit, antagonistic regulators and sort of negativity predisposes them to this industry because I know you know, there are these. Other options where you could push for a kind of a clearer framework or an exemption of some sort or something where essentially, you kind of work with the regulators more. Totally fair question. And, and as we said, in the wealth response, we have certainly, tried to find a solution that doesn't all litigation. And we have been able to do that. And the fundamental problem is that the that in our view. The SEC is. Extending its regulatory reach to things that are not within its statutory authority. And to some extent, that's just an issue that has to be resolved. And I think just to add to that, I think the point where we're at with industry. What's become? So dangerous is the entire industry is operating under this cloud of fear of what will the SEC thing, and we're now starting to see the real impact of that of the industry in the US starting to fall behind, you know, it's, it's one thing to go and try to educate the SEC. We spent a lot of time doing that. It's one thing to produce all these documents, do all these subpoenas do all this testimony. 'cause millions of dollars. That's another thing that at this point. Now, what's the most worrying thing is we are falling behind. You know, I I look at. Coin base. In the come out, they build this amazing product or early building amazing team..

"So does the road team start winning again and end this this is a series that I think other than the your man's L came in and just clobbered Auburn, I think it's been pretty close most year. So and that's your that's your intro to SEC play. And then it just sorta rolls there. So and then you gotta go to Athens late in the season. Like, your final two games are at Georgia an at LSU brutal. Brutal. I'm excited to say. Yes. That said in a vacuum. I think there are better team than they were this year. I think that's JIMBO Fisher's gonna do a good job there. And I think you're to Mike Alko is going to be enormous. Yes. Yes. I mean, you know, getting them back with the kind of athletes that they can recruit getting them back to playing good defense. I think that is a bigger key to consistency than anything else for him. Now. I think that's right. I'm excited to see him one four ten eleven. All right. Eleven eleven here. Here's your woo pig. This is the easiest question, or at least the most simple question, simple thought Arkansas was very bad in two thousand eighteen is there reason to believe they'll simply be bad. I know what to get an average American conference quarterback lose familiar with their off does the offense. I guess. Yeah. And he was he was pretty average. Can they ascend to just below average? I don't know because they're still trying to remake the roster into what Chad Morris wants to look like because that you know, Bret bielema didn't have a roster like that. But I I don't know. 'cause AM's like I said Adams better LSU's, probably almost will be better Alabama's Alabama. Auburn is you know, we're predicting Auburn and not be good, which means they'll kill everyone. That's rough. I don't know where the winds are. I just don't I we're we're we're where who do you be? I'm pulling up their schedule right now. Yeah. They play Missouri at the end of the season. We know what Missouri does teams at the end of the season. This is true. They can win. God. This is rough this this. You're right. I'm not a good enough detective, Portland state, Colorado state, ole miss San Jose State. Yeah. Like, you should beat Colorado state this year, should San Jose State. Yeah. But in the SEC, I don't know. I mean, and they they actually could be a little bit better than they were. And I still don't know. What happens? I still I still don't know where Windsor there's a chance that they have to beat get better. They could start for no and finish for eight. It's entirely posits a rough way to go through life. But yeah, I mean they recruited relatively well. All things considered the recruiting to and what you have to replace there's opportunity certainly, and it just does not feel like twenty nineteen is a okay, we're going to be frisky and nobody wants to play us which. Is certainly the first step for a competitive. Arkansas team will that that's the thing at what point now this is this is the year when when Morris was immu when we looked at it and went I don't know where the winds are and they wound up beating Houston, I think going four Nater five and seven and then the turnaround was completed the following year. So maybe maybe he just has some your to magic that. We don't know about it's possible. I it's waiting for me. And I don't think when Arkansas clean house and got rid of Jeff long, Bret bielema. I don't think the people in, you know, making decisions in writing checks. We're fully appreciative of how hard the job is. Yeah, I think that's right. One four or ten ten. Let's go ten I love this off season. I don't know if it's going to do anything. I don't know if it's gonna be fun. But I love it so far onus had a nightmare of year on defense. They win one SEC game. But make probably the splash. She assed duo of coordinator hires. Enrich rotted, Mike, MacIntyre least, I guess name. Are they those two in a position at all? To succeed. The. The. Here's the thing there. There have been athletes on all MRs defense chill recently. And I realize it was going to go. Well, you know, that's why they have NCA violations. The they got athletes pretty much across the roster. It's been a case of putting those athletes in the in the proper positions defensively. So maybe mcintyre's that guy..

"What else? Do we got on here? The end of Mizzou's game against Kentucky for sticking with the wildcat. Where Mizzou definitely should have one. Okay. What about Alabama? Aside from the national championship if we're just going to stick with the the SEC season for Alabama the first half of the Georgia game the SEC championship game. I mean, it's painful to watch to a hobbling around getting hit getting blitzes. Not get picked up throwing interceptions. Right. First half of that. I mean, the thing with Alabama for trying to compare it to dental work is it's never serious dental work where you actually need novacaine. Right. Like all of their problems and being cosmetic lose like tennis system. Coaches. Doesn't matter have a quarterback who's hurt for pretty much the entire second half the year doesn't matter. Right. You're really splitting hairs if you're trying to find things at Alabama fans are going to treat as root canal, Georgia special teams, play calling is the root canal for Georgia and the swish and spit for Alabama. That's right. So thanks for that, call swishes spit could be our new thing. It's it has to be in a very specific way to this show. Georgia ends up being the Georgia root canal is probably the first half of the Texas game that game was it was rough. But losing in death valley is not it's nothing that is going to feel consistently terrible. And give you nightmares. I was a very good Ellis. You'd think I I'm looking at Arkansas Arkansas had a very bad year. Oh, and it was a weekly root canal schedule to and ten tough schedule. I think they were disappointed in Fayetteville by the quarterback play especially with Morris coming in. I don't know. I at least had an expectation that we would look better than it did. And that was that was a problem all your wishes spit was signing day. Yeah. Nice class coming in swish and spit was signing there. I talked about the ending of the Mizzou Kentucky game. I think we. I mean vandy. You know, you're going into a vandy season that you have some crack teeth. There's an expectation of there's a work's going to be done low point. I mean is probably Georgia. But that's not Seru canal root canals probably watching the end of the Notre Dame game. Because that game was there for Vanderbilt. Yes, it was there for this thing. And they could've beat Notre Dame in south blue that game was in south bend. It was it was. So that you know that was there, and they weren't able to capitalize. Who are we missing? Ole miss Mississippi State. I'll miss was root canal. All it was sort of beginning to end for all miss there. Exciting moments with that receiving core. But you know, you just get the what the one win is over Arkansas. Mississippi State on offense. I expected more tempers Mississippi State offense was one prolonged allow this tooth is green ass-. And I know we have to drill here. Right. Yes. That I think it was it was either thirteen or fourteen combined points against Kentucky and Florida to totally good teams. But with that site of experience and talent returning you have three points against LSU, seven Kentucky, six Florida and zero Alabama. If memory serves swishing spit was I mean, the ultimate swish and spit is the Bill. Ultimate it's America's swish and spit in so many different ways. I think that about covers it I think that covers. So we're going to we're going to cut over to the interview death, Andy we'll be back after but you did a cool thing on the ACC show. You did with a friendship Patterson from CBS. You're basically having the guest pick a number between him one in fourteen has did last week again this week with the SEC. And then you talk about those teams all too often. We just go in order of finish or in reverse order finish. This was a little bit more of a democratic way about going about it. And I think held interest pretty well at least through one conference autopsy. So we're gonna kick it over to Andy Staples from Sports Illustrated, aside dot com, Sirius XM, and we'll be back. Shortly enjoyed the interviews. All right. I don't make promises. I can't keep. So here's Andy Staples from Sports Illustrated..

"For free. That's what we do here. We talk college football now twice a week as we gear up for the college football season. Today we are doing a very important show. It is. Our s. e. c. west preview show. Dan. We've been going through division by division conference by conference and talking about all the relevant factoid that may only interest you and I, but nonetheless are somewhat important and we did what big ten Easter week ago. Yep. That was a big one tonight. We've got a huge one, a lot of interest for sure. In the SEC west. Absolutely. It is the best division in the southern part of the United States. That is something I am willing to confidently say in state that is objectively true. Yes, yeah. I'm excited for this one. I don't have a nickname for the SEC west. We've given nicknames to other divisions, the SEC vast SEC vest terms. I don't know the SEC chest. I'm not very at tie. We need a little. We need a little skin from Nick Sabin before we go see chest. That's true. There is a lot to talk about this is probably more fun for me to talk about than it has been these past few years just because I like novelty tie. I like treating college football like a TV show, and I enjoyed that it's a new season a couple of stars left and we're getting a new blood, you know, in hopefully it's like, did you watch Friday night lights? Yeah, of course. I'm hoping it's an east Dillon west Dylan situation. Yeah, where we have some new stars. We have some new storylines. I am excited for what I think is because you know, traditionally these past few years, it's been sort of. Alabama LSU. Then Auburn here and there allburn you know is comes along and has a great season and goes like six, six, or you have a year or two of the Mississippi schools jumping up making. A lot of noise then obviously, after making a lot of noise, you get tight and need a massage out. But there is something very exciting to me about Arkansas rebooting and we do miss you, Bert. We miss a whole lot. We do. I still have the sound on the board by the way people we did a Reddit. AMA on, yes, Reddit dot com. Slash are slash solid verbal or sub read it, and I did get a very specific question about soundboard would we be expanding the soundboard to include sounds for other coaches, and there was a call out in there for the Bret bielema sound, which is never gonna lead that's ever gonna go away just because he's not a coach part of our fabric. We have JIMBO Fisher in a pretty sensible move in terms of, we expect. A lot of success both on the recruiting trail on the field with tech saying them. I don't know if that means anything beyond nine and three, but in the SEC west, that's pretty good. And there's I think that the nearest and dearest part of the the novelty of the SEC west, and that's very first person to ever work in both the Bronx and starkville Mississippi out. It's a weird van diagram isn't. It has become a thing and Matt Luke with a really fun offense at ole miss. And then you have the sort of more familiar stories at Alabama, Auburn, and listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, I'm writing, don't preview it. All right. Out of the chute Ari. I'm just it's sort of like when you read one of those articles on on the internet tie. Yeah, where they got a couple of highlights up top gotta dig down to find all the juicy stuff will you are excited you're. You sound about as excited as you were the last time you drank cold brew. So I hope you're Hedda ahead of green tea. I've got some ginger tea right now. It's all flowing. All right. Well. Thank you for downloading the show for listening to the show were excited as you can probably tell the talk about all things SEC. We are also very excited for a big deal. We've got going on this weekend now. Look, we've talked about this for several months and weeks running, but it is down to the nitty gritty. Yeah. "The best best of the paul finebaum show podcast john just update the audience could i have i missed a little bit what what else were you you heard jimbo he certainly has been the biggest story so far today what else have you heard what was i to stick with jimbo he also talked about the he was asked right about his comics at heb desert year ago exactly and last year he was quoted saying that it's the best conference of college football which you towing the company line at the acc media days and his response to that today when he was asked about it was quote i think the progression to what it has become is because of the see a rising tide lifts all boats that sorta never heard that cliche before i haven't yeah so i mean the idea that jimbo's now in the sec he talked about at florida state being so close to georgia talla bama to florida just being in in the other words jimbo last year was was in one political party he switched or now he's completely not disowning but qualify what what he said a year ago and that was one of the bigger statements are the summer spot on jimbo said that he certainly did that was something that stood out to me and and poke he could afford to say since what is ten ten and two against the sec at the time nine ten and one at the time he made that statement and i think what that statement proves more than anything is that these conferences are proud and they ask their coaches to to say things like that and i don't know if juba was asked last year samuel surprised if you've ever was singing from the same hymnal last year i one thing i'll say about the sec the commissioner and the people that run this conference don't have to ask the coaches to say things like that right because everyone knows her true so jimbo had when i thought was interesting press conference i was in the press conference room and the reason why i wanted to because it felt like new blood her six new coaches in the sec this year a lot of high turnover so it just felt like gave this twenty eighteen version even though we're in a different place a new fresh feeling as far as kentucky and mark stoops is concerned paul the quarterbacks ish situation in lexington to me is possibly one of the biggest unknowns gunnar hook and terry wells wilson those names mean anything to you not much no they don't mean anything to me either and that's who's fighting for the kentucky quarterback job steven johnson did a heck of a job for big blue nation remember that epic gain more kentucky beat louisville lamar jackson he really put that program on the map with that win but the problem here is paul now this is stoops's six sec media day how much longer will he remain the kentucky without taking that next extra step they've gone to bowl games but as far as competing in the sec east and that losing streak against florida how long is that dirty one years now it's it's gotten to be too long you're right and it's week to something to look forward to and if kentucky get smoked again by florida on week two and we talking about thirty two straight losses to a division of ponant with every year.

"You had a plan looks like it worked congratulations and good afternoon thank you paul i mean greg's the one who should get the credit and he's the one who had to do all the heavy lifting but it's it's been a lot of fun tall i mean as i remember the first time you and i talked which was almost two years ago people were sort of beaten down and depressed about sec basketball it's it's it's been a lot of fun seeing this level of success and the pride that i think our coaches and our fans and our administrators are having with the successively mike certainly a lot of things go into helping and aiding i mean there's only so much you can do from an administrative standpoint the coaching in the plane has to be done but take us through your process of trying to help this league elevate its game well pauling when greg hired me he asked me just to look at everything and then come back to him with what i saw and you know and i came back to greg and i thought there were some internal changes need to make in the office one of them being a fulltime basketball person we have to address officiating any hard mark whitehead who served in that capacity for the last two years but i told greg i thought the culture was just awful i just thought people were making me paul i like to have a dollar for every person that said to me you can't win in basketball in the sec because it's a football lake and that is the most utterly preposterous thing i've ever heard if in fact sec football can only help you win win in basketball i it enhances the image and reputation of school and it helps to attract kits and the good thing and i know.

"So that's but that's pretty good so uh spell is i am and it ahmed is officially the most qualified a c c lass expert on our that thought average of like were like four hours each like well all share of were county if we're counting spencer going all the way back to the seventies well or go spite led by lights let's also be clear the most sec thing you can do is talk a thorn tate of lay about an sec team without any preparation or knowledge or insight whatsoever yet just assume assuming know a whole lot i i have a question for amanda as an sec east representative even though twothirds of the podcast already is how badly do you really want to win the sec this year for any year well i'm trying to remember what that feels like um uh i would say like pretty badly because then at least it makes the jokes little a little easier to take because it slightly he i don't know i'm talking theoretically here because i don't think we're going to those those i mean it's a charge question because there are two ways to win this he sees you can either be good or there's the other way which is however ready allseam civilities days were all donor also the trash heap you don't you don't feel good about it necessarily it's sort of like being the survivor of a plane crash you don't look at that and be like that's his son about me i pr that's all the hard work i put into it just like your man i hata i'll seat and that paid off that's it right and then there's the inevitable like you even if we did in the sec lethem we have to go to the sec championship game and play probably alabama and i remember the last time that happened.
