"Don't you think they're getting a tad carried away. Great question yes i do. Football teams have never been refined in september. Andy reid sean. Mcvay matt nagy offensive coaches. They spend off season. Scheming new plays. So i do think offensive coaches have an advantage over. Defensive coaches in september defenses are rarely in great form early. There's a longtime baseball saying. An opening day pitchers are ahead of hitters the belief that hitters perform worse at the beginning of the season therefore pitchers perform better at the beginning of the season last week. The biggest numbers were put up by the saints. Sean payton cardinals cliff kings. Mary eagles nick. Serianni niners kyle shanahan. Rams sean mcveigh. September is for offense coaches. Consider that when gambling dear calling a team needs a quarterback right now who's a backup or unsigned who is the first guy. You'd call another terrific question. He's not high profile. Like cam newton. He doesn't have endorsements but it's remarkable to me how we always forget about nick foles. Who outduelled tom brady super bowl..

"No i did not okay. Well let's as far as the offense goes familiar. Face in jameis winston someone who is thrown many picks against the carolina. Panthers missing michael thomas. So that's not good for them Overall i mean it's as far as the defense goes. We're looking at last week. Compared to this week in carolina's should be an a-plus matchup but as we know when carolina's presented with plus match up. That's not always a good thing. I mean honestly the saints. Or just like the falcons you can throw every stat every matchup every analysis. Just throw that shit out the window because anything can happen. When these two teams play the saints do alvin kamara. I don't i don't think we should. Yeah alvin kamara players in the league. So yeah i mean. He used to run circles around. Keithly and thomas davis even when our defense was completely healthy so back when i was gonna say he used to He still does. I mean i was gonna say that was gonna be my says like he. He used to run circles around the grant. There's like i think he's still like actively run circles around. Yeah yeah he did that. Like three are six months ago. The other thing that's that people may or may not consider as fact drew brees was at least last year maybe even the year before that more limited as thrower where jameis winston can still jeep the ball down the field sixty yards. I firmly believe that. Sean payton is gonna turn jameis winston into an actual quality. Nfl quarterback. i mean. He looked like one last week. I mean look despite the stats like anyone looking at the stats says. Oh well you know he just got lucky with fill positions stuff like that. I watched a lot of his snaps. He looked good. I mean he was throwing the ball. Well he was taken. He was making good decisions running the ball. I mean he the first drive. He ran twice to preserve their the first down on third down long or second down along like jameis. Winston is not. i don't. I don't even think he's the same quarterback that the panthers saw back in two thousand nineteen. I think he's or grounded. Now i mean even with the buccaneers in twenty nineteen like he threw for five thousand yards. He turned the ball over time but he is like a good idea talented player. Any kind of lazic artery or something like that. Yeah yup did crazy. How much easier quarterback is when you can see who are throwing the ball to. Yeah and who's in. The way is run a little little do you know. So james listener five touchdown passes one of those such answer to a former panther. Oh that was brandon. Chris hogan yeah. I didn't know he was on the saints. I did not know that. Either till i till. I saw the boxer now because i'm sitting there like wait a minute which i thought they cut alexander ma but which other players and i did not know. They had chris hogan. I had no idea when they picked up chris hogan he showed up to the stadium on sunday. And they're like all right. Sean payton is like i whatever. I don't even think chris hogan actually played in the nfl last year. But i remember seeing report that he came in for a tryout. I guess he made it so he played for the jets lesser. They signed him on july. The twenty eight. I did not know that. I did neither like. He's been all training camp completely under the radar. Believe it or training camp. I had no idea to be fair. That wouldn't really be a widely reported signing at this morning it's clear. Yeah or eighty point of his career. I mean honest. He's never really been more like the fourth guy on a depth chart. He's he's their version of brandon zylstra basically. Yeah and that's not a dig on either one of them that's just who he is at your road. It was it was. It was funny like i said i had no idea. He was still in the league. Last i heard his name. He was like try out to play for the parole across league. Yup i thought he was at. Yeah and yeah and then and then it was like jameis. Winston passed looking through the scoring summary and it was like jameis winston yard. Pass chris hogan like chris hogan when d- at their bright with this crazy about they're like i mean they're wide receiver upstart. I mean even with michael. Thomas would be bad but like without michael thomas. It's like horrific-looking isn't the other isn't whether wide receiver suspended to I don't know not often get up. They have. I mean they're. They're starting to see reserved Smith marcus marcus callaway. I think misses the one who suspended. See eight that. Hey michael. Thomas is on the pup list apres kwan. Smith is on reserve slash hurt. He what they only have one player suspended. Its defensive tackle. So yeah such quantum. Smith's hurt too. So they're down. They're starting to wide receivers. They have kenny stills on their they decide practice squad so they could call him up to play and they still have alex. he's on their practice squad. They have have a guy in lil jordan. I was just looking at that. Little names actually little jordan which is funny. Because he's six four. Do you think he like people have to call him little jordan all the time or is that dislike. Hey my my name is little jordan. But you can just call me like regular jordan..

"But speaking of the saints so the saints are coming into carolina this week. Coming off a five touchdown performance by jameis winston. I think he only through for like one hundred. Eighty five yards though forty eight yards five touchdowns less than one hundred and fifty completed. Fourteen passes in james that ever. I mean over a third of his completions for touchdowns play. I think i think I think that's what you'd like to see. Yeah you definitely like to see that Let's just start off real quick with the injury report for them so they're dealing with a lot of right now. I don't think you can do their injury report quickly. Yes alexander hasn't practiced all week. Marcus davenport doesn't appear like he's going to be ready to play. Thomas is already out already know that he's also fun fact he's also been placed on the covert report even though he's on pup as well so while all of meal. So he's double out for this game here Marshon lattimore is hurt. Yep he brought her signing his hundred million dollar contract. How convenient yeah heater legitimately hurt his hand the same day. He signed a one hundred million dollars extension. It is funny. That like they announced. Like a marcus. Lattimore in the saints have agreed to this huge contracts. Like we're playing a game like thirty minutes ago. Our politico sheeting on the sideline. I know agent but like in my head like the. Gm is down there. They're talking between series like going over the final numbers. They're also missing. Eric mccoy center so they picked up a guy off of another team. Practice squad. I think it was the bears so that tells me that. They're preparing to not have mccoy. Yeah like it could be. I mean he might be able to play. Might not but they're they're making preparations if as if he's not going to play sex to be then real unfortunate. Well i'm not gonna talk too much trash. Because if i do they'll come in and they'll beat us like thirty one two three like they did. They do tend. They do tend to beat us every time we come on here and talk shit on them so yeah. They're their entire offense of coaching staff. Mina sean payton is on the cove list. One of their players is on it. I mean it's just all the worst possible shit that could happen to a team is happening to them at one time. Unless you're the cowboys yeah That said as real quick. I wanna put in perspective like who's all missing and it's pretty much all defensive players other than eric mccoy but it's their defensive end like their number three defensive end. They're starting weakside linebacker. And they're starting court their best corner and one of the main safeties because a c. j. garner johnson's didn't practice today. Yeah so imagine us. Having to play without brian burns. Germain carter just on burruss dante jackson. Yeah and yeah like it would be bad. And then i guess our third defenseman would be like morgan fox or yeah. Mark paintings bliss. Say markey's hanes. Yeah imagine playing without those guys. And that's what the saints are doing. Hypothetically doing hypothetically yes friday. The friday into report has not come out as of the recording of this podcast. So pretty cool if we had that information though. Yeah maybe sound like john..

"And you have herbert just go absolutely bonkers on third down. The chargers converted fourteen of nineteen third. Downs i remember. We had this conversation. My response to all of that was like why are we in nineteen third down situations. It tells me you're not things well on first down in early downs. But i wanted to look into it. Here we are and joe lombardi dialed up. Seventeen runs in seventeen passes on. I doubt to balanced to have a quarterback of that stature. Just four point four yards per play forty four percent success rate. The chargers were twenty sixth in first down efficiency. They're the only team that managed to win in week. One that finished bottom ten in epa per play on early downs so kind of a little nugget. They're kind of rolled the dice and had washington in one of your survivor. Polls this week of bad there. Thanks buddy thank you thank god we expected more tempo from the chargers after just kind of reading and hearing what was coming out of their camp all fall eighteenth in first-half pace it didn't increase in the second half thankfully to an above average rate. We talked about you know the. Oc joe lombardi's previous stops two years in detroit. And then being with sean payton and drew brees in new orleans for five years so no doubt you want to learn from those two guys. Imple- met some of the things that worked so well for the saints offense in incorporate them into what you do with the chargers and four just in arbor but you also have to realize that just in. Herbert has a canon for a right arm. And he just launches absolute pissed missiles like. He's not drew brees at age. Forty two so. I just saw far too. Many routes that were were curls in comebacks and bubbles in screens justin herbert only through deep on six percent of his passes against washington. You have to open things up this week. It has to be more of a dynamic offense and my hope. Is you see this. Dallas defense that plays more aggressively with dan. Quinn that you start to take some of the shots downfield. And it's great fine austin at colorado the backfield on early down against dan quinn defense that struggles to stop running back passes over the last few seasons but i mean we just watched forty four year old. Tom brady pushed the ball. Downfield against al seven point six yards per pass attempt fifty six percent passing success rate with six explosives. If tom brady can push the ball down the field at forty four like justin herbert's got to be able to push the ball down the field. It looks like as as you mentioned that that herbert in the offense gonna catch a break. Demarcus lawrence terrible injury. Randy gregory is is on. The big see list. Mccarthy said that he's actually not hopeful that he'll be ready for sunday so you're to best end rushers for dallas appear to be out. I think herber probably has some extra time to push the ball down the field. Donovan wilson. The cowboys starting safety is dealing with groin. Injury has not practiced since the tampa game might be out. Let's check the to report today. I think the chargers are going to have success. Moving the ball here. Obviously that that's not really the question. They should be able to run it. That should be able to pass it to running backs on early downs. There shouldn't be much resistance anywhere else but this shouldn't be just a good offensive performance. This kind of needs to be the one more it's like. Hey this is our offense like we're on we're on the grand stage here like this is our coming out party and there should be fireworks basically all over the place. If joe lombardi is willing to open things up this right should have a heck of a lot more confidence in his offensive line. As well a group that didn't really take a single rep together during the preseason you would have known that by their performance against the washington football team last weekend allowed just twelve percent pressure rate. Six pressures on forty nine. Drop x ray sean. Slater looked every bit. The part of a first round draft pick and i have to imagine there is some cowboy fans who are looking at their offensive line. Going man would have been nice to have that cog to plug in for our group albeit not a jab at mike parsons who they needed to try and bolstering defense. That left a lot to be desired. But when you look on the other side the ball pain. We saw with the cowboys. We're able to do offensively in their season opener. A hat tip to kellen moore being extremely creative at least early on with some of his play calling dak prescott seventy six percent pass rate in the season opener that was the second highest in the league for week. One by only their opponent in the tampa bay buccaneers. But this could be a game. Where ezekiel elliott's given significantly. More opportunity is antonio hips in washington. Football team were able to find some mild success running the football against the chargers defensive front. I think that's the most interesting thing. Let's kellen moore comes up with. Yeah he had the perfect game against tampa right. Attacked their secondary. Did it with the right guys. you know. Attack the right defenders in the right positions on the field dow's went seventy one percent pass on first down right a and it paid off fifty eight percent passing success rate five explosives through the air. Now you have michael gallup out your strength at wide receiver does does dwindle a little bit with that lael collins. You're starting right tackle suspended. His replacement is a twenty twenty undrafted rookie. Inherent steel joey. Bosa lines up on that side of the field. He registered a sixty percent. Pass rush win rate in week one. That was the very best in the league and by ten percent. So i think you're gonna have to help turn steal not the best matchup that. Hey can we starting this week. Mom throw they believe. Ben see if the dude can swim not only is he getting thrown into the deep end. There's like two bricks attached to the bottom of his feet here. Let's see that is true so you kind of. Let's see what this looks like. You know what is. Moore's approach here. You hinted at this right brandon. Staley's defense has no issues letting you you run. The ball will dallas be willing to take that with with zeke especially with everyone in the media. Clamoring for more zeke usage. They're just apparently wasn't enough against tampa. Fortunately.

"Rich. Eisen show right here on our program. Look we've been talking about brady in the Last segment and and the box and were soon they gonna go to know you know what's a pretty big game this weekend that nobody's talking about just yet saints and panthers right underneath Who's gonna be the one to take. This is right off the bat the mantle to say we will challenge. We will challenge. We will accept the challenge. We will take the challenge. We are challengers. We are going to be lockstep until we see them ourselves. That's a big one janus on the road in division and the fact by the way that he's been through it individuals a starter. I think is going to be a nice little leg up that we're not talking about. Which what are you guys. Had sean payton for coach of the year. How's you right. tj. I mean yes. Okay so i am brandon staley and you had arthur smell who could easily get it to okay. Let's say let's say. Chris say you're not off to agrees not to start to start. I'll be into. Let's just say that fed ex is getting returned to sender so far to the long season but often long season That win for the saints just one week huge though jamus goes ahead and starts winning. Football games starts eating ws and you know he. He had that photograph of him holding up his hand. Like a. w you know. And i can't do the finger not too shabby here. Nice start this game against carolina. What carolina says okay. That's what i'm say more home. We saw what they just did. It's our it's our house. We can keep pounding. Matt rule goes to and sam darnold beats james. Yes james areo. And mccaffrey does this thing and darnold and no doug. You not know about now. A darnold and rami anderson do their thing now for second team and dj more. Who's on our fantasy team. Because brockman internet crapped out. And he was the best player available need wound up on our team. That's not a bad way to get off saying pretty good player. I'm doing the mike del. Tufo head scraped wants a matter. I i felt like the saints. Dis tough generally j is going to ball. And i don't believe in the panthers. And i got the saints in our power five as my number five so i'm rolling with the state. Look in the meeting ups. I mean he's got the double whatsoever. This is one of those games where it's a division. It's division and wouldn't that be amazing him. Eaten ws is now like a cool when we all made fun of him boy. Oh hard years ago for the we did we. And then the the the fame. Nfl films moment when he was in tampa and he did give this whole long speech. This wasn't. I don't think it was the eating w speech. It was another one where he gave his whole long speech. Trying to fire the tim up. And as it's going on you know it's gone on too long. And then you smash caught to him. Sitting next to fitzpatrick sit next to ryan fitzpatrick and fitz is like you know it's good I'm gonna cut down a little bit like the mike dobson. And those are the things is as as a as a when. You're a quarterback and you're starting quarterback in this league it undercuts you it undercuts you with your teammates. Your teammates sense that they feel it. It's a very very sensitive organism. That locker room in the nfl. Which is why. Marshall faulk came on yesterday and i asked him what you know. What do you make of the packers falling completely flat. And he's saying you know he's not totally don with the rogers offseason story it and he doesn't think that part of the people in the locker room either in our kept pointing out to him. You know hey you know the fact that he didn't wanna be there wasn't about. He didn't wanna play with his teammates. As a matter of fact the fact that he came back was an indication that he knew that this place was the best place for him. The win 'cause the other options about forcing his way out to screw with management wasn't feasible for him the even then there are some people that might not know you know and that video got posted at richeisenshow yesterday so i would say like you'd throw a poll question up there like which team has the best chance to challenge the bucks this year. But i think the saints would beat beat the rest of the competition. Yeah probably i think anybody who believes that. Chance to beat the bucks within the conference. This year's not the calls not coming from within their nfc south housed. It's coming from out west. Yeah right i think so. Even if you put a poll question up packers saints anyone from the nfc west anyone from the nfc west. I was going to say like which division is the but no one's going to pick anybody from the east right. It's going to be the west right and you don't have to say the north the division can't be the north you know. I think that's our poll question. Today is the biggest challenge to go bucks in the nfc. Yes saints packers anyone from the nfc. West is a good question cowboys. Just fun and put the cowboys. Sure how you doing over there. You're right yeah. There's one thing. I wanted to point out since we're talking about james though Brockman use to this summer. We got videos of janus work out. Remember oh yeah. And there's a lot of weird was in. He was in the poll. I remember specifically doing something. Shoulder is in the pool and you were going off like why. Can't you just be normal. Why can't you do normal workout workouts. Br okay so there was a touchdown. Pass that he threw. I wanna say it was either to deontay harris or maybe calloway. He threw a touchdown pass and he did this shoulder pump. Fake which through the secondary off and cleared open the lane. He threw a touchdown pass and it was exactly what he was doing in the poll. Working out so those things that we see and you go. Why can't you be normal enduring. Do normal stuff. He actually use that in the game. So james knows what he's doing. He's a professional he you what might look stupid to someone else. He clearly did that. Move in the game and threw a touchdown with it..

New Orleans Saints to Use Interim Facility for First Month of Season

"The new orleans saints have picked their starting quarterback jameis winston. Jeff duncan covering the team new orleans times. Picayune sports columnist. Let me start with that season opener given the weather and we still have some time. Here is their contingency plans. If the saints can't host the packers that opening weekend jeff dan. They're working on that right now. I mean the situation is so fluid as you can imagine in new orleans. The power outages catastrophic. The entire city is still out of power. And so there's so many other priorities right now in the city beyond the football game and we stopped the sean payton this morning. Big look like the saints are going to set up shop in the dallas fort worth area. Absurd least the next month or so and he mentioned that they'd even looked into possibly playing their home games over in dallas and. At and t. stadium. I think that's one of the ideas they're not going around with. There's so many moving parts here other trying to make roster cuts today get players out of there and they got families members all in the hotel move hotel so it's a it's a crazy situation very unprecedent.

"Head coach of the Saints. He says he's disappointed with the timing of Michael Thomas's surgery when it happened in June, and it could have happened a whole lot earlier than that disappointing. And we'll work through it with the other players that are here. Um, but the surgery took place and obviously You know, we would have liked That to have happened earlier than later. And quite honestly, it should have Can you explain? I mean, was there a lack of communication in between work? Nope. I'm gonna leave it at that.

There's going to be an nfl playoff games coming on peacock. We know that Also the premier league now the. The super league is toast. That was that was a great april moment. Right for two days when the entire world and go to use a dp phrase gas by the way. It's happening right now in golf walk through that. There's something called the premier golfweek. Okay which is basically the super league for golf. And they're trying to lure players to play in this premier golfway big money big purses a big events. And if you join you're not allowed to play on the pga tour and major says. Well i believe so. Bruin i want. I'd heard this. Did that happened while. I was in the nfl draft cave. Net's been something in the last couple of days. I mean wow roy mcelroy come out like condemning it like what are we doing for he says no. I mean who's going to be the first to do it. They have big offers into dustin johnson. Justin rose brooks kept going phil mickelson. I just like how many how many how many yachts do they like. You know what i mean. I guess you could say that about all these billionaires owning the the super the super league teams wow. I don't know that's why i told you. People are looking at what the what the premier league teams were doing with the super league thinking. Maybe we could do. It also told you college football might go in that direction as well never know. Eight four four two four riches the number to dial right here on the rich eisen. Show love this guy. One of my favorites that i've gotten to meet in all my years with the nfl network. He is the head coach. The new orleans. Saints sean payton. How're you coach rich. I'm doing well how are you. I'm better for talking to you. How's that draft. How what number draft is like grand total drafts That's a good question. Ninety seven was my first one coming into the league. Is it as an assistant I think twenty. I'm bad at math. By if i. If i wasn't holding the phone i'd be using my left fingers. The twenty-five quarter century. Twenty five in court century drafts. Congratulations i know what you get somebody for that. I guess it's a silver anniversary. Get you something silver. How 'bout lombardi trophy. That's like another one would be great. I i i don't think they're just handing those out no i. A lot's happened. This was this was unique Relative to the draft process that compared to other years You know for players as well as scouts and teams without the combine per se. You know the season. A lot of interrupted seven game schedules. Five game six games so some players not playing The most notable thing for us when the draft ended. You're on the phone with a number of college free agents. Each team is signing A number of players that turn out to be real good football players that that number was almost down two thousand. No kidding just because of players returning for another season So the the size of the draft class was smaller. And i think conversely next year when when we have our next draft. I think we're going to see a large much larger class. Sean payton here on the rich eisen show Let's let's talk. The number of reports. I saw before the draft that you're trying to trade up into the top. Ten quarterback minded or potentially as jones is falling to middle of the draft to get them But you stayed put Walk us through. What happened on draft night. If you can yeah it was pretty simple. Look we. we felt. There were a couple of players that we'd move up for and for us. We we have you know a must've corner and so that there were two corners graded Both horn and thirteen with real high grades in very quickly. You know early in the week. it's pretty common for teams to say we have an interest you know. Everyone's basically open for business but ultimately There wasn't a team wanting to move out of the first ten picks and so. I think that lasted all of you. Know half an hour maybe the morning of reaching out to these teams and the cost would have been if we found a trade partner. Too high so You know at that point. Our feeling was You know it's gonna come to us at twenty eight and let's make sure we have our our cloudplayer's ready and it's exactly what happened. So the top ten possibility was targeting a corner in mind because of a it was a corner. But i would say this if you make a trade while you're well while you're not on the clock or the or the club that you're trading with is not on the clock you you do have to have some contingency plans in the event that let's say both those corners were taken before nine or eight. Where wherever that trade took if you if you make one on the clock you you you know your players available so i think it was looked beginning of this draft so much time spent on the beginning of the draft and everyone discusses it predicts. It went fairly smoothly. I think The first pick that people were split on or not split but hey what was cincinnati gonna do they gonna take left tackle the receiver and of course. They took the receiver so. I don't know that there were any real real hiccups. Certainly a three would quarterback were the forty niners gonna take and then after that it went fairly smoothly but But yeah there there. There really wasn't much interest at all In in anyone moving out in in our mindset at the start was was for a corner you know and we. We saw that. That wasn't going to happen quickly. Then we we just stayed right where we're at so a man sean. If if the saints had gotten jc horn you had a nail the pads and the goalpost down shut. Wouldn't you right. Well he He's a tremendous player. Unfortunately in our division ethics good pick by carolina's right real. He was a real competitive player. You saw it on film and You know did so many things well at that position.

Drew Brees, Saints rework contract to save almost $24M in cap space

"And Drew Brees agreed to a restructuring of his contract. You're probably thinking, Oh, man, he is coming back when they don't know they restructured his 24 plus million dollar contract down to the veteran's minimum of like a million and change. Why would they do that? Well because he's going to retire. And so that way it opens up that cap space and they've got that available and ready so that they sort of know where they're at. And so that, so that was just a sign an indication that Drew Brees. He's done there already, you know, going through the motions, and it's over. Is anybody surprised that Drew Brees because also, Sean Payton said he expects a for a decision from Drew Brees next week. Anybody all that surprised that Drew Brees is waiting until after the Super Bowl to make his decision on his retirement?

"Drew brees tom. Brady eighty five years worth of quarterbacks second quarter at six three saints and then dan fish huge mistake by brief. Yeah first of all the internal pressure and second of all the physical. Play at the line of scrimmage by murphy bunting getting physical with the receiver michael thomas undercutting that outraged by drew brees. That throw was a huge tone. And that. I love the to mike evans big body in the red zone. Stay in between the quarterback and defensive back touchdown tampa bay for cash in ten six tampa ensuing drive seats trying to respond. This is james winstons. First career playoff past and dan take a look at the triggering. Yeah love the beautiful design and then trey smith leaking down the middle field. But this is really about everyone paying attention to alvin kamara. Watch the tailback in. How many blocks defenders run that way. They lead tricon smith on blocked out here. You big cat. Take great play designed by matt. Nagy that sean payton carries over to yesterday saints thirteen. Ten is the advantage there. Bucks get a field goal. So we're tied up at halftime first. Possession of the second breeze to smith again beautiful. Throw we've seen so much by drew. Brees that incites thought. Fade carry into the sideline touchdown new orleans but then later in the third dan. This play changed the entire game. It's incredible winco junior yet. Tampa new orleans wins. The right they get that slant because it's man coverage but just watch that right hand come in on that back side punch to finish that playoff for tampa bay's defense. That ball bounces right to their defender to huge turnover for them saints turnovers and the bucks cashing in. That was the story of the game. Here's brady that's leonard. Four bucks tied up at twenty cook knows. That mistake was critical. Comes another one dan. Although this one clearly seems to be miscommunication yeah really. It's really just trying to get a vertically route to evan chimera out of the backfield but what happens is never liked. Does a remarkable job of playing with vision onto drew brees patient and then no wasted movement snaps drives on that football before kamera ever turns around and drew knows that was a terrible decision. Saints third turnover leads to this brady takes it himself. Tom brady giving the bucks a thirty to twenty lead. Only the rap isn't excited about it and one last chance now. Desperation time for freeze. That is tipped in the air. And that is all she

Turnovers Doom Saints in 30-20 NFC Divisional Playoffs Loss to Bucs

"Bill. I just want to dive into it here. Because there's a lot to get to after watching the bucks. Beat the saints. Thirty to twenty so new orleans had been in tampa bay twice this season in week. One about four hundred years ago and then again in november. So what was the difference in this game vs those other two. I really simple pablo the saints. Just didn't protect the football. In the two regular season games between these teams the saints won the turnover battle. Both times there are plus three in the week one victory and then one up in the rematch. Tom brady threw five picks across those two games. Only seven in his other fourteen games. That really felt like the saints had his number and they were gonna have to flip that to win in new orleans. Well they flipped. It didn't turn the ball over the saints coughed up. Four times including three interceptions drew brees. The bucks turned the first few takeaways and two touchdowns and use the fourth to wrap up the game and kneel down. It's virtually impossible to win a playoff game. That sort of margin the saints will just sloppy in this game. Mean breeze could have thrown four or five picks. He threw an awful interception under pressure for the first one and on the same page with alvin kamara on a scene route for the second interception. The third bounced off jared cook. Who also fumbled away a completion on a drive where the saints were looking at. Go up to scores. They lost the ball and proceeded to give up seventeen unanswered points to end their season. So clearly the bucks had a formula of sorts for stopping breeze in it seemed like every aspect of this game. But it's not just that they stopped him instead. They made him look straight up terrible really often and i'm wondering how did they do that to that degree. Well i really think that todd bowles bucks defense. Look the tape from last week's game against the bears look how drew brees was playing. Look at how pal those receivers were moving and just didn't think there was anybody in that lineup who could reliably win against man coverage or beat them down field with their speed. This was especially true. After the saints lost deonte harris who had two long punt returns early in this game to a neck injury the saints did get a long touchdown but it was not with brees on the field. It was the lone snap for one jameis winston who came in and use the same trick. Play the bears ran against them last week. For a long touchdown coming across his sanders they handed to them. Refers goes to jameson mega man. Wide open trade smith at the twenty five fifteen ten five and a touchdown saints and jameis winston. What a touchdown pass against his former overall when breeze on the field it was pretty clear at the game plan was to dare him and his receivers to try and take shots towards the sidelines and get downfield and the game plan worked the bucks used heavy doses of twists and stunts upfront create pressure and then just smothered breezes receivers. I honestly it really felt the only reason. Sean payton didn't bench breeze for winston on the last drive. The game is because it was probably a last few snaps of drew brees his career.

"Stravinsky, one n v. P from Nickelodeon. First assignment in the Barracks ain't here and I saw Sean Payton got slimed in his Concorde Elevens. By the way, A lot of people on Twitter were a gas that he was wearing Concorde 11, Jordan's and allowing that's Nickelodeon slime to get all over those crispy, fresh pair of Jay's Those are my favorite That's hurt reflected itself because I'm sure he's got. I'm sure he's got a Jordan. You got more coming home. Okay, confidence. Sean Payton is that he is hook up for her during they're still going to be there. On this time next week. I respect that Sean Payton with that confidence, Okay, let's look ahead to the next round. And we'll assume, although I think assuming anything with the Browns is dangerous business everything as the Steelers air once again inside the 10 yard line, threatening to score, But let's assume that we have all the matchups for the next round set up and it's the Browns that advance out of this game and not Pittsburgh. What matchup? I'm gonna let you kind of free form this What matchup intrigues you the most. And why in the divisional round, whether it be a S E a N ISI. I'm gonna pick that chief. Let's go, right. And then the last thing I was not expecting to be the Steelers. I was not expecting him to be this good. And I mean, it's not just that quick start. They look good. This entire game. Now they're gonna have some yardage and the Steelers here like you have a touchdown. Something awful could happen in this Cleveland. I don't want to rule that out. But in terms of Ravens cheese look at what the Chiefs don't do well on the defensive side of the ball pit stop the run. One of the Browns wanted doing often. They want to run the ball down your throat over and over and over again, so That to me is a magic where if the Browns do get ahead early, like they did this week..

Is Drew Brees no longer the elite quarterback of the past

"Think it's time to sound the alarms on drew brees who was uncharacteristically erratic with his accuracy yesterday on top of of the week one game where he couldn't move the ball it's definitely too bad back to back weeks for drew brees. But I think this week them not having Michael Thomas out there I mean Alvin Kamara he's still look good but obviously, they need more than just him. He can't just be the Alvin Kamara show out there. So drew brees I. Think. Yeah. You have to be a little concerned at this that we're not seeing what we should be seeing out of him because Derek Carr put up the numbers that drew brees should have last night. It's another game where you know you look at breeze his average depth target is just over five yards, the vast majority, and this was obviously true with Michael Thomas to the vast majority of yardage that he's gaining is coming after the catch it's a different type of quarterback that they have to play around. Like Luke are my son, it became a saints fan a year ago, and my concern was like, well, you kind of jumped on this one a little late in the game had you been born earlier that might have been more profitable for you but he asked last night like is drew brees look so sad and I thought like like on a micro right like on a micro level it's because you're losing to the raiders on Monday night football and you're frustrated but like on a Matra level like the something in the is a breeze. Through me down the stretch like you can kind of get in the is well, you've seen this with Peyton manning to like in that last year and. First of all small sample size. Let's see what happens the true breeze but there are concerning distressing signals out there were seen it on the field and I thought that there was a look in the eyes of drew brees last night that sort of new something's changed here. It's not the end, but something's changed and heap maybe shares a little bit of the concern that we share because he had. You did and he. Does face. It makes me think about retirement. Remember he almost consider retirement. And players always say like once you think about it you're you're already you're already there. What did you see colleen last night? No. The same thing that's US did there was one shot in particular of through breezes face that he just you could see it was written all over his face. It was just pure dejection I. Guess to like He. He looked so sad in the moment time for that Viking funeral just put him on the wooden rafts now and push them out into the Gulf of Mexico start firing those arrows Taylor swift. They've got Winston. I Love Patras tweet where he said, we're like four weeks away from breeze coming down with a mysterious injury and Winston getting a little bit of a test drive. I mean listen that would be wild and I. Think our boy that boy wolf the number one saints fan on. Twitter pointed out that Winston had killer training camp, and and you know we also have, of course chastened Tatum Hill the twenty one, million dollar man who really has not been involved the offense too much through two weeks. Sean Payton is a guy that is if they continue to struggle you imagine it's going to be hard for him not to think about mixing things up or perhaps making a big change, but it still thinks I still feels a little premature especially the Michael Thomas. Out. Emmanuel Sanders had had a bad game yesterday. He's obviously not his straight he's in the. Chakwal Smith. IS THEIR NUMBER ONE RECEIVER So a lot of the states have a lot of work to do both in strategy and play and discipline. And now they got the packers. So that's going to be a games. Look forward to

New Orleans Saints agree to terms with QB Winston on one-year contract

"Yahoo Sports is Charles. Charles Robinson reports at Norrland's is finalizing a one year deal with Winston. The former buck coming off a five thousand one hundred nine yards season thirty plus touchdowns three interceptions and immediately eyebrows. Raised the idea that Winston would stay in the division. Go to the Saints. Backup drew brees. He enters the mix with Tatum Hill. Who IS SUPPOSED TO BE? And maybe still is the heir apparent To breeze so it just leads to a lot of unsolved mysteries in its own right greg your thoughts when you heard the news that Winston may be and quite possibly is headed to the saints I I wasn't shocked because I I what I did. This hashtag setup into your own comet with a big way. Why why you made your Greg sounding you often. I got it. I wasn't gonNA say anything but then mark reacted to it and I can't help myself but go ahead. I did this Saints Twitter Pot. Podcast just knew that way wolf as podcasts. Him into my buddy Adam and they were saying they were hearing. This was going to happen before the draft so they got sources on the inside and and they ended up being proven right and it makes all the sense in the world of your Jameis Winston and makes sense of. You're the saints too. I think you get a chance to get Jameis. Winston in the building for a year probably drew brees his last year. We haven't heard any financial terms the Jameis Winston deal you know was reported on before the Taste Hill extension Came out and the money that was involved. That extension came out. Part of me does wonder. Is this deal for absolute sure does did Winston know about that before he he came determines but either way he? He should do the deal. Because if he can somehow impress Sean Payton or if he can end up getting in the lineup and being as backup like Teddy Bridgewater What better place to possibly learn because damis Winstons still has a lot to learn but he also has a lot of talent a guy that throws for five thousand yards can do things in the NFL and like there's no better place to learn. Other than to undo. Breezy and Sean Payton.

Sean Payton informs New Orleans Saints no offseason program this spring

"Sean Payton told players Wednesday will they will not have any type of offseason program this spring virtual or otherwise is the quote from Peyton. Take care of your families your health and be ready this summer completely wipes it out. He had A. He had a tweet with A. I believe it's a game of thrones ref of kind of mocking the setup of whether virtual meetings are like with all the players and coaching staff. I wonder if this GONNA be pains and influential Guy A domino or a lot of teams are like the stupid. Like I know what we're trying to do here and stay in touch with the players and start installing layer of what the twenty twenty game plan is but maybe we're better off just clearing the decks and waiting for everything to settle. I would add that there that does need to go through some channels in terms of the the league in the NFL. Pa and how they want that stuff to be handled on that came from our newsroom on some level. But secondly that. That's that's maybe more of a luxury for a team like the Saints. Where the coach? The quarterback in many of the players are embedded in know each other. Well that's not a luxury. A first year coach Matt Rules Approach things that way I can guarantee you wondered what rule does rule or any of these first year. Coach is really think a lot's going to be accomplished in this. I guess dating with players you've never met. I would think it would. You'd want to establish some I D of WHO? You are as a coach with as many players as you could. That would be my approach if I were first year coach. I was stunned to see this. Because you just don't see. Nfl coaches give up control like that that they're saying okay we could be. We could have you two hours a day for a month and a half. But we're going to say no we we're going to trust you to show up to camp and you just don't see them giving up control and this is a different time. Obviously I think New Orleans is one the hardest hit cities too. I think maybe that's a factor because a lot of the players live around there Sean. Payton had corona virus. Or maybe it's hitting him a little. There's a lot going on and to your point markets a veteran team. So it's not the same but I I can't remember coaches doing anything like this. I I'd be. I'd be Kinda surprising. Other teams took the approach. I mean he's not doing this if he thought it would hurt the team. You must not think they're you know something. Here's the next move though you do that. You say that. Then you create a trend around the league or other saying you know what the Saints Are. Smart. We're going to do the same thing. Then the saints secretly are meeting for two hours a day and they are getting that little bit of same said. That's good that's like two point three mark little a new pink pony operation. Perhaps in a way maybe

S. last five days historic frightening unprecedented impactful I love the idea of release in the bracket I really do because you know that would give us if they did it Sunday night my thought was when I heard the stories that they should have done you know maybe they not CBS the network but they gonna use CBS sports network the television side and they would have done an hour and they would discuss what the bracket would have been like and we all want to tune in and it would have been a nice break from everything connected to the coronavirus in sports that needs to be discussed please to be talked about needs to be in the updates with Jon Faddis but just release it and let us talk about it on Monday like we normally do on the Monday after selection Sunday at all this team got rob look at the easy path Duke has a all the usual conversation because everything has been so unusual I love the bracket release idea I really do I hope they do it but I don't trust the NC double a all the time to make the right call I just don't I'm pessimistic for a reason because when I look at Rick Pitino coming back to college coaching and I look at the history from the F. B. I. wire taps and Arizona Kansas L. as you go about their business in college hoops I look at Jim Tressel became president of Youngstown state university with Ohio state I had sanctions and I think Trussell had a show called his penalty you could come back to coach buddy give me president of university I I'm not surprised Patino is back in the U. L. B. at Iona for a year or two that's a buffer school he's not going to finish his career at Ionia ahri owner he'll finish at a Big Boy basketball school now I mentioned that CBS sports bracket where they had Dayton Duke Zager in Florida state in the final four in Atlanta good Soghan date during the championship game that was interesting who's in the final eight cancers due date Michigan state Baylor Florida state in San Diego state Gonzaga Sweet Sixteen Gonzaga Oregon BYU San Diego state Baylor Ohio state Maryland Florida state Michigan state Villanova Louisville Dayton Creighton Duke Kentucky and Kansas see the reason you wanna release bracket this was an abnormal year in college basketball we're schools that were known as mid majors could have done some damage in were highly ranked most of the year like Dayton like San Diego state not unlike BYU those going to be one of my sleeper teams they should be honored they should be recognized why not the greatness the Dayton's mid majors have been one of the great storylines in NC double a tournament history how many people agree that the bracket should be seasonal selection committee has all the seasons and summer say well you don't play the tournaments no you just would go back to the end.

And that's what kind of caught the headlines, but what is he supposed to say right now like, Sean, what are your thoughts on this job that isn't available right now. You know, I mean until until either. Jason Gerdes a contract extension or somebody else's the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think that rumors will exist that he wants that job. I mean they've existed for a long time for a reason. But even if at the live room or they don't comment on anyway. Right. So I don't know how prudent the, you know, the news is. But I think I think it's very entertaining. Think that he's got to fill the question about that. And this fact that he just needs to give the vote of confidence to the fans, I think that's a good way just to to to put the put this news out. Yeah. It's it's some water. And I think it's yeah. Let people run with what what the response also think, Sean. Let's let's get real here. He's saying I've got tattoos that can't be race. Rex Ryan had a tattoo of his wife. When a Mark Sanchez jersey. I mean, you know, he he got that fixed. I think still there all he got it changed. Okay. I thought in my on. Yeah. In the tattoo. She was wearing a Mark Sanchez jersey. And he got the color changed when he became the bills head coach. So the jersey was like Bill definitely changes. But like even then like the tattoos like I mean, I feel silly getting this deep on a tattoo. But I mean, do you can have that saints tattoo forever? You want the freaking Super Bowl? They're like, even if you went and coached a Jaguars at some point in your life. Like what you did in New Orleans is still amazing, and you should still remember it forever..

Where will Antonio Brown land?

"And Tonio Brown. I'm seeing a lot of different names. I theorized yesterday. Carolina could be interesting. They've got their lebian bell and Christian McCaffrey. They've got a defensive coach what they don't have with Cam who's not a great precision thrower. But he does throw a great deep ball is get them a big time home run threat. Do you think there's a place and it could happen? Very quickly. We're in Tonio Brown lands. I wanna make your podcast, which which is on overnight or whatever. And I'm worried that we're going to say something now, and he's going to be traded in the next two minutes. I'm going to try to give us a vague enough answer. So we can live online, Colin. I would say this don't just believe all the teams that are not how this works. There's going to be a surprise team. I love the Carolina fit. I actually think that's a really good one out of the conference another team. I would give you the New Orleans Saints. And you might be saying, oh, come on the saints have no money to spend. They've got all these guys. They've gotta take care. Mike thomas. There are ways to make it work. And if you think about what would Sean Payton has been about the last few years, it's making a splash going and getting the guy trading a first round pick for next year to get Marcus Davenport signing Dez Bryant, he denied it at the combine because his name was linked to it a little bit Sean say that we're not I wouldn't be shocked at the. The saints are making some phone calls right now. The question is can they get into Neo Brown for a second or third round pick? They don't have a first round pick.

"Game over the weekend. We're just learning about the incident happened at Marymount junior high during a youth league basketball game the school district been quick to point out that this did not happen during one of the schools sanction games. But the group was renting the gym apparently to undefeated teams came together a fourth graders west Clermont taking on Mary Mont team. The west Clermont squad ended up winning and police had to be called after the game. When a group of about ten parents got into a fight there. Two women who were arrested and facing charges and are in court early next month, according to a channel five they obtained the nine one one call from some people who are coming out of the next game and said that I guess people were shouting things back and forth after the west Clermont. Kids won the game. And I don't know if they were taunting her parents for taunting. The Mary my parents as they walked out barely this has been quite the problem for the Cincinnati premier youth basketball league spokesman for the league tells W W T that they changed their rules last year. And it'd be tougher on bad behavior during the games, and they objected forty five parents last year last year forty five parents during their youth basketball says this year, they've only had to inject six they had thought things were getting better the parents involved and their children have been kicked out of the league. They will not be allowed to play anymore. As I said, the women were facing charges are headed to court premier youth basketball says that they continue to work on crowd control, they require now, I guess that anyone who hosts these events have to has to have a monitor in the gym try and help control the problem to assist the referees. And what I don't know if the league's got somebody else or maybe a retired refereed doesn't want to ride down the floor anymore. I'm not really sure. But imagine this the league says that they've had a real problem keeping and hiring referees to do their games. Then was it the. "We'll get his take on the all star selections. And if he thinks it's a bad thing to have the draft made public is going to draft guys. Eric Mangini continues to join us. What did you think of how Sean Payton coached in the NFC championship game? Some of the some of the play calling. Did you do you have any negative reaction to it? I thought overall he he did a good job. I thought Wade Phillips nice show of taking away some things that were problem in in the first game. And and he made some adjustments to what they're doing with with KOMO or out of the backfield. They started to push them out of the backfield. You know, the the call we we've all talked about the call over and over again, and I get it. And we've all been frustrated by calls that were either missed or made that affected our lives. But that's that's part of what happened and maybe they'll change the rule. The only concern I have is they had a chance to go win the game. They had kids play defense. Then they got the ball. I just like New England did and overtime. So they had a little bit higher percentage of an opportunity to win the game. And they didn't. And then they had a chance to play defense again. And the Rams kick a fifty seven yard field goal. So you just wonder if that call got everybody's so preoccupied with with that moment that they weren't able to move on to all the other moments that would have given given them opportunity to even have to worry about about the call. Look I've been critical, and I think other people have as well of not running the ball. First second third down to take away the chances for the Rams take away their timeouts. I know they checked out of a run. On first down and even the past which is a pass interference that boat. Wasn't that both onto the inside she'd been during the outside? He here's what I'll say about that is over and over again. We celebrate Coty takes chances. Remember in the Super Bowl kicked in onsite kid. He takes chances. So to criticize the guy for putting the ball in his best players head in drew Brees is hands any critical moment, I have a really hard time with and even if they'd run the ball three times, there's still would've met I think fifty seconds left in the first game. If they don't get a first down you are allowed to get a first down when you're on the football. You are and you're allowed to get stopped and you're allowed to get a penalty. And you're allowed a lot of bad things can happen. But in the first game there are twenty six seconds left in the first half. When the Rams got the ball back and they walked down and kick a field goal. So to say that they couldn't do that in fifty seconds. Well, that's not true. We we saw it happened in the first game. So I just I think it's very easy after the fact that say he should have done this. He should have done. That but he put the ball in his best players hands. He checked out of a bad play into a good play. And look they got a penalty. It should have been a penalty. So to criticize him for that. I I don't feel good about. I don't love the way things were handled after after eight moments fair. Breeze. Hasn't looked the same is have we reached that point with Brees? Or is it a year the attrition of a season? And that's what happens with older players. They wear down at the end of the year like it breathes was not nearly as dynamic end of the year as most people think breeze should be well, this this this offense was was shaped a little bit differently. They had two running backs that we're really effective. And it was it was almost run I approach, and I I didn't see breezes performance later in the year as as a as a decline, I think sometimes the the scheme dictates, you know, more running than than passing, and it may may look a little bit different than what we've expected from that offense. But I don't think it was different because his performance had declined substantially would you consider the Cowboys if you're Payton? Why I I don't know why you hit hit hit reset with a better younger roster..

"Teams peak all the time a joy, the news. Well, that's the news. Thanks for stopping by. Let me let me defend Sean Payton people were on him because he had a fourth and goal and you decide to kick a field goal. But there there this was later in the game. And everybody said go for it. But there's a genius behind this. You just gotta hear me out on this. So Sean Payton and said instead this decide sound McVay excuse me, Sean McVeigh, Sean McVay decides I'm gonna take the field goal because that's guaranteed points. Okay. So guaranteed point still matter in this league hate to break it to you. But games are still always twenty six twenty three that's the league average. So a field goal kicker is guaranteed, and it gives us momentum. But there's also an advantage. A you could go for it fail and lose all momentum imply the game. But if you score a touchdown there, you think because you have a lead. It's a great thing. But it also tells the saints you're in four down territory the rest of the game. Good luck stopping drew Brees on four downs. When you feel goal it just ties the game. Meaning if drew Brees and Sean Payton, get the ball. They are less willing to go for it on fourth. They don't have to they don't trail, and they are more willing to punt it now they did drive down the field. But in that instance, he went for the guaranteed points and the tie because if you don't get the points, you have really created chaos for your team and lost momentum. But the other thing is when that game tied drew Brees and Sean Payton have the ball tie game. There's a high probability that I can stop them over the next. Four five six seven eight plays. Get them out on third down and get the ball back. What you don't want is to never get the ball back. And if you take a lead the chances are you'll never get it back. So you always think that the feeling and football is always go for it field goals. Still mad her go. Look at the games this week. This idea that every game is forty five when you get to the play offs. I'll take guaranteed points almost every time and he took guaranteed points, which creates a tie creates momentum. And then you just put the game into your defense his hands to make one stop and get the ball back. But if you score there, which by the way is no guarantee to score down there in the end zone and the Superdome where you can't hear a darn thing. So that's a much harder. Play that a neutral field or a home one yard line play on the road in the end zone Superdome. That is a tough place to have absolute officiency. So this idea. That you know, if you take the lead if you take the lead they're going to go four downs there never putting it to you New Orleans. And I think breeze is hard enough to stop and the Superdome. I mean, they have been great this year on these eleven play eleven minute drives if it's just about I get four downs and drew Brees four yards three yards for you. It's hard enough to stop on three and out forget foreign out. So I this idea that you have to score touchdowns is a bunch of baloney. It's a bunch of baloney. The the average NFL score. This year was twenty six twenty three. It wasn't forty six forty three. This idea that feel goals? Don't matter is dumped anytime, I can take points. That was a rule in the sixties and football the seventies eighties nineties. Don't tell me that matter anymore. Take the guaranteed points. Get a game tied rely on your defense. It makes the other team less willing to go for it. So there's he may not have thought about that. But there is a subtle genius to in. That instance, taken the guaranteed. Thai instead of rolling the dice on the lead, blah, blah, blah, took a long time to say nothing. All right. Try and dopers around the corner. I'm not gonna waste any time. Let's get to him. I want him to break down these two games yesterday. Be sure to catch live editions of the heard weekdays at noon eastern, nine AM Pacific..

"Dive, you know, I don't think that running the goal was what he wanted to do. There's a face mask. Once he got outside the pocket here. We could've just gone after it. Oh, you didn't mean that one because that one actually took points off the board that would have been a first and goal for the Rams at the one and the refs lifted, but Colin you could barely see that since when in pro football. Do you get bonus points for an agreed GIS with a whiff as a with that was a whiff call and that took four points away from the Rams who settled for a field goal. They went had first and goal to one. But it's called recency bias. That's what psychologists call it. It's always the last blown call. The most recent that is outrageous cost us the game. So let's talk about this blown call which got everybody worked up. Quick snap. Breeze. Passes and completed no flag for Tommy Lee. Lewis mckell Roby Coleman delivered a hit and the two officials talked to each other crowd's going crazy as there's no flag right on the Saint sideline that should have been a penalty in Sean Payton is justifiably upset. Yes. He should be. That was a blown call two and the one America's freaking out about. But the Rams previous to that would have taken a twenty four twenty lead. Instead they settled for a tie, which probably actually changes this drive again in psychology. It's called recency bias that last blown call. That's what lost it for us. Wasn't the fact that the saints peaked in November that Brees was outplayed and he was by Jared Goff that Sean Payton in one of the strangest moves ever even questioned by Buchan Aikman pass the ball on first down, Sean at that point in the game. You're not facing the Rams you're facing the clock. Sean Payton was out coach drew Brees was outplayed. By the way, it should be noted after that. Agreed just call in for some reason fans thinks agreed just calls matter more than just previously with calls. You had the ball and threw a picked and got it first in overtime and couldn't score. You had multiple opportunities in that game. But you go ahead you blame the wraps on that final call. But those settling for field goals early fifty yards rushing out played out coach late. The better team won the Rams traveled three thousand miles. Couldn't hear themselves. Think for the first hour wizard completely discombobulated. But as we said Friday. Over time the team peaking now and not in November not against the Cowboys would win this football game. Be sure to catch live editions of the heard weekdays at noon eastern, not an Pacific.

Yeah. It's sometimes that's the case. But I think we both in offensively collectively we always try to go back to the technique of simple routes to begin with. So because oftentimes we'll say, you know, he might be ready for like the fifth level. Calculus class. And yet you get a young player like trae quantities a rookie. "This section of the podcast. I really liked to tell you a little bit about what the meeting was like between drew Brees and Sean Payton in which they go over the game plan, and it's like to John Nashes from Beautiful Mind talking to each other and talking a language that I certainly couldn't understand the same way. I would not have been able to understand John Nash and his mathematical formulas, but what I thought what I thought was was interesting overall and just a little bit of inside football here. During the course of the evening, obviously, there's some sensitive stuff that's being discussed and exactly what they're going to do in the game plan. I thought it was amazing. How free they were with their information. The saints coaches and players, and and I think that one of the reasons is that they're going through this football nomenclature so fast. And it just you know, and they go, and they go, and they go, and it's a language like, they're speaking Flemish, and I just can't understand a damn word. They're saying, but the interesting part of it. I think is and I think the reason why Peyton isn't worried about me leaking anything anybody. I mean is what what would I know when they say snug left Y fly P thirty five stab dog f rail. Everybody got that. And everybody says, yeah. And. And so, but I I don't know what any of those any of those words are symbols or herb reveal mean. So basically, I think there's no need to worry about it. I could hear that all day. But it's like if I was sitting in a room for the first day hearing, some different language, obviously, I'm not gonna have any idea what they're saying. So I found that to be really really interesting. The one thing that will tell you before I get into the breeze part. That was very interesting is that Peyton is. Just this crazy mad scientist when he's thinking of plays to this point. He started thinking he was said he was doodling Thursday night. And he started thinking why do we have to have a quarterback in a formation? Why can't we have a totally empty backfield? No quarterback, no running back. And obviously at some point. There's going to be somebody there to take snap. But why can't we have a totally empty? Backfield where we'll have five ofensive linemen. And what I'm gonna do is. We're gonna have a bunch formation on the right with two wide receivers and our backup quarterback tastes them hill who also plays sort of jack-of-all-trades role form on the left hand side. We're gonna have to wide receivers in drew Brees. And so we're gonna come up to the line of scrimmage and the play clock will be going down twelve eleven ten nine. And I asked him about it. And he said now my goal is for there to be eight Philadelphia Eagles all looking at their their defensive play collars, Malcolm Jenkins. My goal is to have them. All looking at Malcolm Jenkins saying what do we do? Because you know, if you don't have a quarterback are running back back there. What do you do? And so and I said, okay. Well, what do you do? And he goes, well, eventually, either tastes them hill or. Breeze is gonna come back. He's gonna take the snap. And do whatever the design was when that happened tastes them hill was gonna come back, and he was going to take the snap for max the center, and he was going to run around right end. And hopefully run at their target of the day. Sidney Jones a cornerback who they don't think tackles will. So anyway, I thought that was sort of the darndest thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm watching this play. And I am saying somebody forgot to play quarterback there. So that was that was pretty pretty interesting. So let's let me go to the the meeting now between breeze and Peyton that. I thought was so I thought one of the really really interesting parts of it is just the realisation that a coach are smart coach is now. Not an autocratic, man. A smart coach is a bit of a democrat. He's a bit of a collaborative person much more. So than you would think in the days of Lombardy, and and even in the days of Bill Walsh. I once was able to sit in on a week of the Green Bay Packers in it. And I do remember I in the Saturday meeting that Brit farve in Mike Holmgren had. Honglin said, here's the place..

"It really is amazing how fragile those moments were, and what a foundation you and drew Brees have been able to build and build upon at the time, Sean Payton. Here on the rich Eisen show knowing it's your first shot at being hce in this league like this, right. Knowing what system you wanted to bring in scheme you wanted to bring. What did you see in breeze that you thought this is my guy? Well, there were two or three traits that you just couldn't. You couldn't ignore smart, tough, accurate bedded, followed him, man all through college, and you knew. That he had the the grit, some of those other essential things that we're going to help him in in his re recovering his rehab. In other words, if he couldn't recover from the shoulder injury, then it's probably likely that no one would have been able to because it was something that there was no precedent relative to the injury he had. It wasn't like, well, he had an ACL. This is the here, the percentages, or he had an ankle or whatever. This was a fully torn rotator cuff shoulder injury for right handed passer, so all those intangibles, but but the athletes ISM, the intelligence and the accuracy. I think we're things that it stood out in. You know that the challenge for us was, you know, recruiting, you know, with the city that was still having you in Chambas. And it's interesting. We had Reggie Bush on yesterday coach where he said that he didn't. He wanted to get a trade to the to the jets and instructed his. And that you were having none of it and told his guy Oranje was as we all know legend in the NFL and the football world, you told him that's not happening. It's what he said. It wasn't quite that. That wasn't quite the language. But it was all happening within a month and we were able to secure drew and move move towards the drafts then with a little bit more freedom with that, pick at number two in hopefully take the best available player in. So as you start getting ready for that process and Reggie fell, that first night fell. I mean, you know, obviously Mario was taken by the Texans. Now we're on the phone with with him and they were making this election and orange his marketing guy. So it's rare that he gets even chance to get on the phone conversation. But if anyone doesn't know Mike Ornstein, he'll find a way to get on the conversation in any number, forget the condescending coach, you know, look, I know you're gonna do great job in this league, but the kid doesn't wanna come and play there. So you need to get this trade to the jets. Worked out. He went on for about five minutes. It's and then quickly we put that to bed..

"Jimmy was the guy, and he seized total autonomy. He did. He wasn't giving it. He just took it. Thank you. What what they had in Dallas, Jamie, and that young roster begged we to. I might be over here having a different discussion. I might just have one re Boorda cowboy with loaded. Again. I've defended Jerry on this because he did go get Charles Haley. That was Jimmy, that was Jerry, and he did go get Dion. So that was in that one Barry Switzer ship. But I'm gonna say it again. This is back in the early nineties, maybe ninety one the great and light front before did a big profile on Jerry Jones for Vanity Fair in in it. Jerry was quoted as saying, I could coach the, you know what out on this football team. And he still believes believes that with all his heart and soul, that today he could coach the you-know-what out of this football team. He also said the night that he fired Jimmy Johnson, five hundred coaches could coach team and win a championship with it, and he hired the five hundred and I coach on the list Barry Switzer to do that. And he did. Jimmy said, you better start auditioning tonight. This piece, but here's the thanksgiv- and those were q. huge signings, Charles Haley. And the time put that team was built. I got it because Jimi had come from the college level. He tried to recruit a lot of those guys. They ended up being on the Cowboys Ross and they won't load it. Yeah. So at this stage in age of his life, I think just once business as usual, he doesn't wanna turn it upside down and start over with Sean McVay because you'd be hard man or Sean Payton or pay. Can you imagine what the Cowboys would be would a Sean McVay or Sean Payton with their creativity and that offense, oh failures. It would there be some clashing going on behind closed doors? Yep, Debbie, a law. Jerry doesn't want that. And Jason guarantee will clash nothing. He's sitting there making three, three and a half million dollars clamp. Let Let me me lap. lap. Skip. I love beta, but somebody paid me three being to go clap. I gotta do shocked. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Over here all the team when I watched him now, it's the only thing I looked at. You've kind of ruined it for me to see this and him chewing gum. That's all I look for. So you going to tell you go, you wanna challenge, get it wrong and get. "G force because he's actually going to be flying in the plane why they're filming like this is all going to be real i'm pumped watch it and then sean payton coach of the new orleans saints sean pays great guy no idea why not is like the cutest i think he's cute he's a good looking man he looks good and so we we got to play golf and then jim mcmahon and jared allen jim mcmahon you guys you may not know who he was i didn't know who he was quarterback for the bears back in the eighties and we're watching and jared is like that's jim mcmahon he's a maniac i go why is he a maniac and then he shared a couple of stories my dad when i told him about you play with man was like oh yeah one time he stabbed his i if the fork i don't know the snow but you have a great story i love jim mcmahon i think he was the nicest friendliest man to me but he has a crazy funny story that a few years ago in at this tournament he he pooped his pants on the sixteenth hole expression guys but no he actually did and this is the funniest part yeah in white pants but the best part about this story is that he has so much confidence and he just doesn't care that he went out and jumped in the lake tahoe on national television to clean himself up and he liked in the middle of the golf tournament and people he's no everything was great today until i wish yeah exactly yeah yeah he doesn't care i'll i'm sorry beep this one's pg thirteen but so jim mcmahon was incredible journals i just got to play with some great guys but then the whole tournament is full of a bunch of retired athletes and celebrities that wanna come out and hang out play goff compete against each other and so this is a great event thank you american century for inviting me i hope to come back next year all the girls are freaking out over ban on the golf course and you met garrett today tournament so let's this so the whole seventeen at american since championship has about one thousand people that kind of line up the beach in their pontoons the big party loud music yeah it's it's wild it's a big big party so i t off and all of a sudden this guy ios been been in so i look back and he's a good looking fella and i'm like he's like hey you know me and i was like i don't know you at all i don't think i do and so then he's like no no no you know who i am and he had sunglasses on and a half so i really don't know how gary thought i knew who he was but then he then it's me gay but then but then he goes hey it's me garrett and i go oh and so i went out and we took a picture together i talked to him exchange numbers i haven't got to talk to you but he came for the turn because he saw that i had posted i'm out here and he lives in reno so we you know it was it was awesome the siyam we got two to hang out for just a quick bit but i will definitely be giving him a call just to catch up on life i have is number it's a it's a big deal i have garrett's number and as we know gear is still around in the running so as solicitor on the podcast we have a spoiler alert okay so everybody out there listening you can't yell at us this time this is a spoiler we're going to have the contestant that got kicked off tonight's episode of the bachelorette it's a big land for us this is a big interview we got a lot to break down with this guy it's it's going to be crazy subjects to brush with him a lot of course okay so here's my question for you ashley another spoiler geared still around yeah right so if so here if he he's either going to end up with becca and say he doesn't do you see him being the next bachelor out of these out of these four guys in order let's rank who could be the next guy okay so i think might be the front runner i disagree i do really okay he's like very boy band you know he's very approachable cute yeah okay dating man you know he's.
