clean of all its nineteen tell let's shift gears for some important health information with Jim beau Hannon it is difficult to believe but a disease once believed Iraq in this country measles and that was by the way in the year two thousand is now back let's find out why with Peter pits former if the A. associate commissioner president of the center for medicine in the public interest and a visiting professor at the university of Paris the card medical school why are we suddenly seeing this outbreak of measles of this country I think it can come down to one word which is ignorance people don't understand the incredible public health value of getting people vaccinated already getting measles and mumps of chicken pox and looking call the probably the biggest public health benefits and sanitation and yet people think that thank you because autism which is completely incorrect people think that they can have their kids not exactly in the dog problem for everybody else that that's not true thank you to reach the point now where government is almost required to step in and mandate mandatory vaccines and then also dial down quite significantly and exemptions based on personal preference a religious needs we might as well go over some of the gauntlet that you ran when you appeared on bye bye time talk show first of all vaccines contain mercury and cause autism almost no research that shows there is a problem totally conduct research by incredibly important institution that show that they are safe and effective zero link autism and the preservative but merece all the people said call doctors in the for vaccine as an adult acting for quite awhile so that your problem is gonna get with the program of there are adverse side effects and it's simply not worth the risk yeah the risk is death the risk is life long diseases the risk is affecting your community and the personal risk is maybe you have a fever a couple aches and pains for a couple days it's it's well it's well worth the download the up sides are spectacular this one was really not much of an objection but I'll bring it up because one person called in so maybe a lot of people are worried about this the caller was suggesting that vaccines exist only to make millions of millions of dollars for big pharma and they went off to do a little the of the the flaws of the big pharma and as I said at the time I can agree with a good many of those that that there are some problems with the the pharmaceutical industry of the and their shall we say undue influence perhaps in affecting public policy having said that it doesn't say a word about the effectiveness or the safety of the vaccines they produce so for what it's worth since it was brought up your comments about that aspect if you don't want to save lives with you don't like the manufacturer's business practices I I question you you're you're thinking there by the end of the day support your number that they're very few companies to make texting these days you don't make money on that for the government has had to step in and identifies companies to actually even invented manufactured actually so nobody's getting rich off of vaccines the American public schools public help being significantly increased by the lack of these horrible diseases so the the money that that big pharmaceutical companies make it tends to come off of drugs as opposed to vaccines rolled into the conversation yeah good business practices I don't want people to you are not get actually to be they don't like the business practices of vaccine makers it is if there's no connection or make no sense to me at all yeah are and I would thoroughly agree then we also come to what would be I suppose in the arguments that were put forward the amazing coincidence that after the introduction of a vaccine and I of course was live for the introduction of the polio Salk vaccine poly polio a terrible scorch of my youth and if the vaccine came along and the incidence of polio dropped right through the the state of the of the base but I mean it just does almost disappeared overnight the if the incidence of polio was vastly cut back and that that can't be a coincidence there was no magic wand that work there there was nothing else that had changed except that kids were getting vaccinated if you want to get your children vaccinated that's a conversation but no one can ever deny that back these are hugely state an extraordinarily effective that's just a fact and there's nothing you can say that's gonna make me believe otherwise and that takes us to a final point and that is the laws that exist in some states other trying to tighten exemptions regarding requiring vaccination especially of children and how mandatory should this be a where should the state to be in a position to fight or even incarcerate parents who will not have their children vaccinated or at the very least to ban their children from public schools I'm not getting your child actually he was a child abuse at the at the molecular level and your kids vaccinated you shouldn't be able to public school or private school right the boss go to restaurants or even stuck outside for that matter and tightening up on exemptions and the message that this is serious business and that if you don't you could actually do better have a rock solid reason that's extraordinarily rare and uncommon otherwise and do the right thing and get your kids vaccinated its former FDA associate commissioner.

"Residents of Baton Rouge is that she was the founder of a organization called Cadaver which is a community against violence right and so that Kinda stood out to us I mean she was a leader in this community. She was an activist in this community and and we are just appalled by the fact that someone would take her life was she. I mean if she was an activist was she. In agitator which she have made enemies absolutely not this quite the contrary she was <hes> she would march she would speak out a gang stace but she would do it. In a very comments way you could ever possibly be an activist. She was very very mild. Mannered on noncontroversial would speak to you about your history wanted everybody to know where they came from. One of her favorite things is if you to say if you didn't know where you came from <hes> you wouldn't know where you're going and so he was an advocate advocate about educating African Americans about their history. You know she had a museum where you could touch and feel things. She had a garden outside of her museum. She wanted people to know what cotton loops like growing. She wanted us to be aware of black inventor but she was also recently a part of the Louisiana Civil Rights twelve with our lieutenant governor so no I I don't think she would've made. I don't know of of an enemy that she had I mean everybody is puzzled. When I say she was soft-spoken her voice I can hear it in my head was just so very soft and just doesn't make any sense you mentioned the museum <hes> <hes> again exhibits about growing cotton a nine hundred fifty three bus from the period of civil rights boycotts and Baton Rouge as you said hands on for people <hes> one of eleven siblings sadie Roberts Joseph grew up in Woodville? Oh Mississippi before moving to Baton Rouge with her family. Her sister said she'd stopped by her house every day and she had come over on Friday because she'd mixed up some corn bread butter oven was out so she brought it to her sisters to put it in the oven on Friday and and then we don't know where just kinda disappeared after that but one of the things that the family certainly wants to highlight is the fact that we don't want her legacy lost and so they're gonNA start a foundation Ryan and people can give to the foundation so that the museum can go on. She carried this museum with not a Lotta help from organizations or municipalities or the state she had some funding but it was very small funding so she carried this museum on her back pretty much and so it was because of her love for it that it still exists so we're we're asking asking you know the community states in the nation to just come out and support the museum wants that information is released by her family of where those funds should go. We're certainly wanting her legacy to live Yvonne. We don't want this museum to close. We realized that her compassion for the museum and the tenacity that she had and sharing this information must live on and so the only way we know to do that is to raise funds for the Museum Louisiana State Representative See Denise Marcel Remembering her friend Sadie Roberts Joseph founded on Friday outside Baton Rouge will link people to the..

"It's gluten free. I'm doing it without having a little piece of the Bungee. The yeah the pure experience. I think that's a good idea. Oh No I don't like Oh yeah but you know this actually has some better ingredients and you can pronounce most of them but is it delicious us through all these on the grill. I decided okay try the last one that tastes like just like a piece of bread. I can't even taste didn't say it. The third ones from Morningstar farms. It's called a griller prime again into that one is trying to and that has we water soy protein bunch of stuff. I listen at because we know you're a solutions oriented person so also late here of Veggie Burgers burgers that are not these new fingle impossible burgers so so I haven't made Veggie burgers myself and we will also have a Veggie Burger on the website they tend to take about fourteen to twenty four ingredients and they take a lot of time and they tend to fall all apart. I thought what have I just used real vegetables so I took a block of extra firm Tofu and I put up wait. I put a soup can on top of it overnight so I was pressing all the moisture out of it. I cut a Nice Burger out of that block of Tofu and I put it I love by the way does not fake. I really think that's pretty good victory. That is a piece of Tofu that has been drained and I brushed it. You can do a homemade barbecue. Sauce your favorite bottled and the barbecue sauce. This caramelized is on the Tofu on Holy Bun with some pickles and lettuce. That's one solution number. Two are the Portabella mushrooms I- marinated those overnight in some soy sauce rice wine vinegar little bit of olive oil grilled them and cut them into thick slices again on a burger all all your toppings. You know what I will say about. This Portabella Mushroom Burger is that I've started to sometimes when making tacos instead of using me like barbecuing Portabella mushrooms and then putting them and there are a very good substitute as they are in. This birth seems to me much more the type of food that you could use the word healthy with and the third one simply took an eggplant small Japanese eggplant a plan put it in my oven to soften it so it didn't have to have any salt and I brushed it with hoisin sauce out of a bottle through it on my grill. I really love that got a Japanese flavor yeah exactly well that Hoisin and again caramelized is on the grill. All these are three very simple solutions to serving vegetarian.

"Research search on value that ice or does says senior director of Policy Lauren Nevis but it also has concerns insurers may use the ice reports to deny coverage for treatments it considers overpriced and not just private insurers but Medicare and Medicaid as well as already using ice reports to assess the value of drugs for veterans. She says we're just concerned that interferes with the veteran in that case or the patient their ability to decide with Dr What treatments right for them basically allows ice or or the government decision I president Steve Pearson says it's work is not meant to get in between patients and doctors but rather to determine whether a drug price is fair. He says I series challenging the status quo against five bigger forces in the country's three and a half trillion dollar healthcare system and sometimes we feel like we're the small mouse and yet the big elephants tremble in many ways and sometimes it is with fear because what we are producing does threaten some people's business models I sir recently assessed a drug at its highest price ever two point one million dollars for a one time gene therapy that seems to save babies lives the drug company Novartis referred to answer last month when it set the price at two point one million dollars. Steve Pearson takes that record setting price tag in stride. We're not a blunt tool out to say that the prices are too damn high. We're here to say that we in the United States often get tremendous value from the innovation that we fund and we are getting ripped off and we've just been really bad distinguishing between the two recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll found. And Eight and ten Americans they survey finds drug prices unreasonable but that's public opinion. I Sir offers data. I've argued that <hes> they're doing something challenging and needed and by large they do it. Well all Dr Peter. Newman is a health economist at Tufts Medical Center. WHO's not affiliated with Ice Sir going forward? Newman says I think.

"Officials said they're targeting about two thousand unauthorized immigrants with <hes> final orders of removal on but they're also looking at not only dangerous individuals but they're also looking for <hes> families or at least when they come across families they will <hes> they will grab them as well and just briefly the trump administration announced today. It's preparing a new policy that would limit the ability of people to seek asylum at the U._S.. Border tell us more the trump administration has moving forward with this new tough asylum rule basically they want <hes> people who are seeking asylum to do so in the first country that they arrive in rather than at the U._S. border but I can tell you it's definitely GonNa meet met with a legal challenge. Everyone tells me it's N._p._R.. White House correspondent Franko or Donas. Thanks RECCO thank you well. We've reported here on the trump. Administration's attempt to lower the cost of prescription drugs by requiring that companies put the baseline prices in T._v.. Ads not the copay that ensured people pay but the full rate in hopes of shaming drug companies last week. A federal judge blocked that plan but outside government. There's a small nonprofit. That's growing reputation as the nation's drug price watchdog it estimates how much a drug should cost given how much it actually helps patients W._B._Z.. Carry Goldberg reports the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review or Eiser occupies a quiet office in an unassuming being building in downtown Boston but this independent nonprofit is a powerful player in the increasingly furious fight over American drug prices. No matter how well we work with people this is a contact sport Dr Dr Steve Pearson and his ice or colleagues crunch. The numbers on whether a drug is cost effective whether it's worth its price for example when a powerful new drug to lower high cholesterol came out in two thousand fourteen priced at fourteen thousand is in dollars a year. I served calculated that it was worth more like three thousand that put pressure on the drugs maker to lower the price which it later dead Pearson says looks into topics ranging from cancer to peanut allergy prevention where the evidence it's hard to understand and the question about the value to patients in the system is going to be something where our research can help make it more transparent. I share uses a complex economic model in the simplest terms. It considers a drug cost effective. If it costs no more than one hundred fifty thousand dollars per year of quality.
