Fresh update on "ronna mcdaniel" discussed on Steve Sanchez
"Just keeps me on demand with everything that's breaking out there. Now, as we've been discussing, well, the weekend CPAC how many of you watched CPAC or are you kind of like you know what? I'm just so done with politics. I'm so done. I'm so disappointed of what's happened with Biden being in office. The cognitive issues I'm so discouraged and disappointed about what happened with Donald Trump on day. How I believe he got cheated. I just discussed it. I don't want to watch politics. I'm just sick of it. I just want to hear you, Steve. I don't want to watch TV. I don't want to watch news. Don't be like that. That is exactly throwing the white flag of surrender. Which leads me to this next question. Donald Trump pretty much without announcing it stated that he's running in 2024. But should he many out there even the most highest committed loyal Trump supporters are saying Maybe it's just not the best move. For Donald Trump to run. He'll be much older. Much will happen in the country over the next four years. Do we really want to see gridlock again? These Democrats are evil. Do we really want to do that? Or do we need to put someone new? Someone fresh? And some what else that can actually take the America first, Mansell. So think about this for a moment. Think about this. And I guess here's my question for you and I'm gonna open the phone lines. Do you want Trump running again? I guess is the best question and it's OK. I'm not going to sit and get upset with you and say no, I mean, it's a serious question. I mean, this is the future of our republic at stake here. Do you want Donald Trump running again? Why or why not? And if he does run, which I believe he will, and if you want him to run, I know I do. I know I want Trump heading up the Republican Party. I know I want Trump to secure the nomination. Isn't it funny that Ronna McDaniel now is? Say no weed overwhelmingly. So supported Joe Donald Trump, and it was just two weeks ago. She's like, Well, we're just not going to support anybody right now. Even if Donald Trump throws his hat into the nomination process, we're just not prepared to put our backing your endorsement behind him. All of a sudden that's changed. But the blood follow me for a moment. If Donald Trump does run, should he not have a challenger? Should we just allow him to run forward? Should we just allow him to be the presumptive nominee? In 2000 and 24. Do you feel comfortable with that? Do you feel comfortable with not going through the process of raising money and going through all the challenges and the Republican National Convention are not the convention but the debates and all these things, or is that bad for democracy? Is that not a good thing for democracy? Do we need to have a Republican challenger that goes against Donald Trump? Or should he just be the nominee? You know, everybody's in agreement says Look, now, this is the guy we need to do this. We know what the Democrats are about. We know the kind of shenanigans they pulled in 2020. We need to have Trump and where I'm ready to support that, and I'm ready not to have any other Challenger. Would there be any other challengers? I guess that's the better question. If Donald Trump runs in 2024, which I believe he will It sounds like he will. It's what he said on Sunday made a very convincing that he probably gonna do that. If he does, friends, let me ask you this question. Should there be any other challengers? Because Now, Mitt Romney comes to mind because Mitt Romney has had his eyes on the White House for a long time. But Mitt Romney couldn't even be Barack Obama the second time around. What should have been easy to do because Barack Obama shoved that Obama care down our throats. And Mitt Romney couldn't do that. So it seems to me that there could be some Beltway Republicans that challenge Donald Trump. Do you think that's where the party is going to go? I don't think that's where the party is gonna go. I'm gonna open up phone lines Gonna allow you to weigh in on the program. I know we're talking about quite a bit. That we covered or at least that, um Now Trump spoke about it, Cpac, but I think it's extremely important because the things that he's speaking on her spoke on yesterday he talked about during the debates like fracking and guys to gas prices, getting ready to hit six or $7 a gallon, which I do believe will be coming. So I think it's extremely important to break down the real areas because friends I'm gonna tell you something, and there's no question in my mind. Get ready for a very rough, scary ride in the next four years, and I'm talking rough, scary ride. We have seen what we have been dealt with. Over these 40 days. So just imagine what we're going to be dealt with going forward in these months and years to come. It's pretty significant. It really is. So we're gonna have to be prepared physically to keep our stamina up to be able to be involved, and we're gonna have to keep our mental Capacity up because there is going to be a lot of depressing, discouraging situations that are gonna happen in these next four years. We're starting to really see a sign of that. Let me open up the phone life 70 to 2575396 years. My question once again, Did you catch CPAC? Did you catch former President Donald Trump? What did you think about the speech? He pretty much made it clear without saying it that he is running in 2024..

There are over 150 Americans who voted in this election, and they deserve to know that their votes were counted accurately. By the way, this will is a federal lawsuit. 10 States attorneys general Have also filed into this lawsuit, including the state of Texas 6 30. Fours are time mainstream media's influence over the election. It cannot be overstated. You could start with the media's complete dismissal of potential voter fraud without any investigation. But Mollie Hemingway of the Federalist argues it was the polls which heavily favored Democrats all summer, much all Republicans face to this really unscrupulous and dangerously wrong polling that created a narrative that it was Joe Biden's race to lose. There's going to be a blue wave that Democrats were likely going to take the Senate that they were going to increase their margins in the house. The narrative continued on election night. The posture is that Joe Biden is just moments away from clinching victory and not what's actually happening, which is that this is neck and neck. Even now, as one analyst put it. "So a lot of these states are still up in the air. There's a lot of controversy because the Trump campaign filed a lawsuit. And now the appellate Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania has sided with team Trump rejecting a deadline extension for absentee voters to provide missing proof of identification. It's basically the Democrats wanted people they have, like, three weeks or a month or some extended period of time to show that they were who they said that they were. And that did not materialize. According to the RNC, in a huge victory for election integrity of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, sided with the RNC and Donald Trump in the challenge to Secretary booked bars unlawful Devil an extension for absentee voters to provide missing proof of identification. Court has enforced the proper statutory deadline and order that those ballots be segregated and not counted. RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said. The RNC is doing everything in our power to ensure these kinds of issues, our results and the letter of the law is followed again. All of this is worthwhile. The letter of the law should be followed. Also, a Pennsylvania court did mandate access to poll watchers. According to daily wire dot com. Tim Pierce reporting According Pennsylvania ruled on Thursday morning, GOP observers must be allowed to watch ballot counting across the state. Apparently, they ruled the GOP observers could watch the ballot counts from 6 FT away, but they had been pushed out like 16, or 100, FT. Away. Court order allows GOP observers to stand closer Previously they've been using binoculars. Trump campaign, of course, had preemptively declared victory in Pennsylvania, suggesting that the number of ballots is Too big for for Biden to overcome. We'll see whether that is, in fact, the case. Now as to the actual claims of election fraud in Philadelphia that have been made at this point. Some are somewhat substantiate able. Some are really not. They should all be investigated. As I keep saying. So President Trump's partisan Democrats have allowed the balance to be received three days after the election. We think much more than that. Well, Election officials will be counting ballots that we receive between 8 P.m. on Election Day and five him on Friday. Again. That is the big issue right? Because that Preliminary ruling suggested that as long as there was no countervailing evidence to suggest that the ballots were cast before election Day, they have to be counted. Unpolished, marked ballots could be counted again. That's crazy. That's crazy, and that will end up back in the Supreme Court. Presumably, there will be a ruling on that. Now. Is that tens of thousands of votes? Probably not. Is it hundreds of votes could be could be, And I'm sure that all of them will be for Biden coming up. We get into all the accusations of voter regularity.

Vote counts continue in Georgia, Arizona; Trump mounts legal challenges
"Listen. Republican National Committee Chairperson Ronna McDaniel says she believes there is a path for President Trump to win the election despite the 2020 Democrat nominee Joe Biden of being six electoral votes away. From that to 70 count. Here she is. Arizona still has a significant amount of ballots that air out. They were election day or close to Election Day balance where the president had a significant margin and Pennsylvania So we feel like there's absolutely still a path. And we're going to fight in the states where we're seeing voting irregularities. Now. The Arizona secretary of State says Trump's campaign does not have a legal pathway of decides to sue the state over the voting count. During an interview on CNN, Katie Hobbs said, We're legally county valid ballots and there's no way to stop that. She continued. We have said from Day one that this is going to take some time. And we want to do it right. And that's the confusion. Right? There is some on the right. They say. Okay, what do you consider legally valid ballots? Yeah, that's that's that's a bit of a gray area is kind of the semantics. Yeah, and I don't blame Donald Trump. I I really don't is unfortunate is for the country right now to be going through this given everything he's been through for the past four years and the way he's been treated by the left and the media. I can't blame him for wanting to make sure that there's no corruption going on. I really cannot especially given the fact that it obviously it is doing a really, really whatever the result isthe. Night. You'll hear from the first lady, which would be very exciting. You're going have venue changes every day of the overall theme is this is the greatest country on earth. We love this country and we wanna have the opportunity and the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans available forever, and that's at risk. If we choose a Joe Biden or Kamala Harris now swing state polls have the president trailing just behind Joe Biden. And obviously we're still a ways out from Election Day. He's still within striking. District distance in these polls. But on the issue of the economy President Trump, according to the Wall Street Journal NBC news poll is up by 10% point. Despite some disapproval and handling of the pandemic. When you look at those two issues handling of the pandemic, as well as the economy, how do you reconcile that and and use the invention is an opportunity potentially to tell the Republican story on the handling of the pandemic. Well, you've seen Democrats really trained, politicized the pandemic and use that as a way to criticize a president and I think most Americans recognize this's never happened in our country. It's a global pandemic. The president Took decisive action, cutting down travel the China early on With the PPP loans with a P P that he's made available with ventilators with warp speed vaccines, So he's addressing that, But I think more than anything as we talk about the economy, Joe Biden just said I will shut down America again. I think that is such an elitist view. Not many people can afford to stop going to work right now. People live paycheck to paycheck. We don't see Democrats here trying to pass a stimulus bill and said they're trying to pass. Ah, you USPS bill to make sure that they get elected again. They're not working on behalf of the American people. And when Joe Biden says, we're going to shut it down again, you know who can shut down again. Hollywood celebrities and the politically elite. Most average Americans need this economy to continue growing, and that's what President Trump has done. Balancing health and safety with getting the economy open and on the issue of the economy. You look a state like Michigan, of course, share a woman that you're incredibly familiar with such a key battleground state in this in this election. You look at some of these suburbs in particular that our swing districts that had gone blue in 2018 that if Republicans want when they got a window back, how will the Republican Party tried to make some inroads in in those swing district? Is it school choice? Is it law and order? Both and the economy, school choice Lan Order and the economy are things that are going to help bring back suburban board voters, especially as they see Joe Biden embrace the policies of Bernie Sanders that are very extreme. There's a reason why they didn't talk about These policies during their convention because they know that they don't appeal to mainstream Americans. When you say we're going to give free how scared of people who come here illegally. What does that mean? It means it'll creative magnet for people to come here illegally, and it will increase the cost of health care when they say we're gonna give away four year colleges for your college should grease moms in the suburbs we know That's not true. That just means our taxes. They're going to go up and you know what? Why don't you focus on getting kids graduating from high school before we give away free college? There's so many things that they're putting forward that aren't being vetted. And I think suburban women are especially are looking at this and recognizing Joe Biden's policies will bankrupt this country. So that was RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel with Bloomberg's Kevin's Really speaking earlier and a programming note. Now we're gonna have live coverage of night.

"And you're with Casey or W. It's morning edition from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep, and I'm no well King. Good morning. The Republican Party was planning a big convention in Jacksonville, Florida next month, but its scaling back chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said the party is adjusting to comply with state and local health guidelines. Cove in cases, of course, are surging in Florida. You might remember. The convention was originally supposed to be in North Carolina, but it was moved when the governor there insisted on restrictions because of the virus. NPR's Tamara Keith is covering the Trump campaign. Hatim. Hello. So what's the new convention plan in Jacksonville Look like yes. So, as you say President Trump had wanted so badly to have a big indoor convention with no masks and no social distancing. So badly that he moved it to another state to another city, Eso instead. Today, a McDaniel announced in this email to RNC members reality, they acknowledged reality. It will be a vastly scaled back convention that will not fill in arena or an outdoor stadium that will allow for social distancing and masks will be required. Because of city mandate there in Jacksonville. So even though they were venue shopping, trying to get more favorable rules, the virus struck back because of Jacksonville's mass mandate. Also, the state of Florida is under an executive order that says venues must operate at under 50% capacity. You know they had been talking about 20,000 people in an arena. Now the most they're talking about is 7000 on the night that Trump accepts his nomination. That is roughly the number of people that were in that rally in Tulsa. That was deeply disappointing, and that last light last night likely lead to the demotion of campaign manager Brad Par scale. Yeah, I know that. There's very little that surprises you at this point. But is this a surprise Given how Duggan the president seemed to make this a big, big event? No, you could have seen this one coming miles and miles away. The president even acknowledged in a recent interview that cases were spiking and that they needed to be flexible on a call with reporters yesterday. Vice President Mike Pence, essentially previewed what was to come said that the convention was a work in progress. There's consideration being given to having the convention, an outdoor setting and On also putting the kind of measures in place that put the health of all of those that are participating. Our delegates of visitors and in anyone else. That's president. What will put the health of everyone participating first? Yeah, Remarkably. In her email to party members, McDaniel still argued that North Carolina's Democratic governor had been playing politics. It turns out, he may just have been reading the writing on the wall with Corona virus. It's also worth noting that some of the business of the convention will still happen in North Carolina so that they aren't in breach of contract. You know, she has said that they hoped to have had a traditional convention. But we're being made to comply with local health guidelines. What? What are the health precautions that Vice President Pence mentioned in that clip? We just we just we just played. So she McDaniel is saying that they will have programming every night in the evening. Some daytime events and festivities probably won't have a lot of people partying in bars, though, on DH there going to be using a bunch of different venues. They've contract ID with both the indoor Vie Star Memorial Arena but also outdoor venues. They're going to have health protocols, including available P P E on site, temperature checks, aggressive hand sanitizing protocols and available covert testing. But we don't know exactly what that will look like what it will mean because right now testing is taking 7 to 10 days to come back in many cases. NPR's Tamara Keith, covering the White House 10. Thanks so much. You're welcome. Parts of New York City are opening up as covert 19 numbers improved there, and that reopening includes the high Line an elevated park that stretches across Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. It has ticketed entry starting today, and Camille Peterson reports on what that means for local businesses. The Highline used to be a train track. Now it's a park with a paved walkway, benches, greenery and art exhibits. When you walk north on the high line, you can see the Hudson River to your left. And the neighborhood of Chelsea to your right. Chelsea streets are usually packed on a summer weeknight. That's not the case tonight. It feels like a Sunday evening. Quiet. Yvonne Rodriguez biked here from Brooklyn for a few reasons for the jerk chicken wings, but also to be healthy. Explore. You have very limited options now, but Take advantage of his friend Michael Fenton told him they had to get chicken wings from a Jamaican spot in this New York City neighborhood, and Fenton thinks the highland reopening will start drawing other adventures like them back to Chelsea. It'll mean more business so likely help. He spoke to a lot better. Inside the Jamaican restaurant they ordered from Coney. So Makayla is handling take out and pick up business has been slow for him and his neighbors, he says. A doughnut shop next door tried to reopen but wasn't getting enough customers. So it ended up closing again so I can see only me every day. Soumaila says the highland reopening will send a message. Chelsea is open because right now people things are everything is this Crozier Joanne Kwong also tried to reopen her business in Chelsea. P. it is Ronna McDaniel always appreciate the time you know what's interesting is the economy was something that was beyond reproach when it comes to this president and I do believe in market I talk about there's a thoroughbred up personal stuff about this as well the economy being in such good stead probably is helping us to get through this better than we might otherwise you don't get through it there are those on the left bill Maher on down who have been begging for a bad economy for a long time because of the virus because certain states is not attached to the presidency or the administration or Republicans in general the economy is tanking it didn't is it the feeling of the RNC that it will rebound quickly or actual actually quicker than it would have otherwise because I was in such good shape beforehand and do you think that the left as soon as there is a moment to breathe will pounce and Stacey has a county really does think it wasn't as good it was a false economy that was good before he would even gonna happen yeah I think the the lack of trying to navigate how they get attacked the president and I don't have any doubt that they will do that from an economic standpoint we'll send our whole globe has been hit basically by natural disaster brought a virus the pandemic it's something none of us could have ever foreseen that ramifications this would have on our economy hourly wage workers losing their jobs restaurant the entertainment industry the travel industry tourism the list goes on and on and on so the president by having us in such strong economic shape it's gonna help us weather the storm Congress by putting together the actions that they need to to stimulate the economy hi to me get money to people who are hurting it's going to help the but I just want to say one thing sure the president came into office and he said we need to take on China we cannot have our supply chains only in China we cannot continue to have this trade deficit and boy was he right yeah now you look at how China was not forthright with information on how many supply chains have been disrupted especially from the pharmaceutical side of things and this is a president who had the foresight to recognize that also the border issue because we have to know what's coming in the country and this pandemic show that more than ever and then he shot down traveled China in January and Democrats recalling that racist and xenophobic and because of that action we are not where it'll be us right now illegal who lost six hundred people just yesterday to this to this pandemic so we are ahead of the curve and innovation and the the spirit of the American entrepreneur and scientist and everybody coming together I think we will get through this and as the president said be stronger and better prepare for something like this in the future such great poise Republicans conservatives we all want to manufacturing to stay here it didn't it went overseas even businesses like Burger King we're going to Canada to get away from the horrible tax situation the president comes in lowers taxes on almost immediately you see manufacturing coming back act if all manufacturing were here like you used to be we probably wouldn't be feeling this right now but you're right we're so reliant on China when it comes to so many things that were finally waking up and I wanted to hit or miss the fact that were energy just about energy independent and we were we're the largest exporter of oil now for god sakes you know around the world that doesn't hurt either I mean we we're now seeing gas prices that are unbelievably low because the supply has been stopped because this pandemic yeah the president by reducing regulation by good tax policy has put our economy in a position where we will recover but he was ahead of his time and and I'm gonna stay ahead of Republicans and Democrats right he said we are not going to let China do this to us anymore and he kind of held the line what a lot of people are drawing criticism that we have way and right now we are seeing why he is the president for our time yeah he was exactly right and and China was not forthright as they travel through Wuhan and they didn't give us all the information and it's shameful because as Mike Pompeii affect your date that today we still don't have all the data we can have so much more data from them about how they treated their people who their patients were well you know what were the demographics what were their underlying health conditions we don't have that because China has not been transparent and it's preventing us from fighting the virus right now in our own country is run again you'll the G. the GOP chair and just do an amazing job but let me ask you one more and I know you're gonna run here pretty quickly you're in big demand today thank you for making time for my audience and for me but but one more with the present I think it's gonna be okay I think it's getting better some stunts gave his leadership is beyond reproach and beyond question by anybody who's got a brain so I think that those were going to vote from gonna vote from anyway and maybe he's even wanting some other people over how down the ballot how about the house how about the the Senate how do you feel about that I think we felt pretty good about it because the house really made a mess of themselves with impeachment Russia collusion all that garbage they kept throwing at the present that didn't stick what about now though because these representatives have the ability to say look I lead you through this corona virus issue and the incumbents I think we're gonna be working as hard as they can to at least give the face or the facade they've got an amazing thing what about the down ballot stuff how do you feel well that's the hardest thing for down ballot candidates to be Frank as they can't fundraise right now that is putting a kink in their operation you really can't be campaigning and so it's almost like at a halt so I think for people who are going to be challenging incumbent that's going to be a harder thing for them however the RNC had the best ground game in place that we've ever had we argue had staff on the ground in twenty three different states we are not pulling up any of that staff so based on the operation we had on the ground earlier than ever I think that's going to help us win back the house and Senate these are our keep our strategy I'll be reading other fingers cross runway shows your show whenever you have an opportunity to come on please do so thank you for the time today thanks for having me Joe you're very welcome we're back after this on the Joe pags show star writer.

people are drawing criticism that we have way and right now we are seeing why he is the president for our time yeah because he was exactly right and and China was not forthright as they travel through Wuhan and they didn't give us all the information and it's shameful because as my Comcast actor date Saturday we still don't have all the data we can have so much more data from them about how they treated their people who their patients were right you know what were the demographics what were their underlying health conditions we don't have that because China has not been transparent and it's preventing us from fighting the virus right now in our own country is run again you'll the G. the GOP chair and just do an amazing job but let me ask you one more and I know you're gonna run here pretty quickly you're in big demand today thank you for making time for my audience and for me but but one more with the present I think it's gonna be okay I think it depends on stunts gave his leadership is beyond reproach and beyond question by anybody who's got a brain so I think that those were going to vote from gonna vote from anyway and maybe he's even wanting some other people over how down the ballot how about the house how about the the Senate how do you feel about that I think we felt pretty good about it because the house really made a mess of themselves with impeachment Russia collusion all the garbage they kept throwing at the present that didn't stick what about now though because these representatives have the ability to say look I lead you through this corona virus issue and the incumbents I think we're gonna be working as hard as they can to at least give the face or the facade they've got an amazing thing what about the down ballot stuff how do you feel well that's the hardest thing for down ballot candidates to be Frank as they can't fundraise right now that is putting a kink in their operation you really can't be campaigning and so it's almost like at a halt so I think for people who are going to be challenging incumbent that's going to be a harder thing for them however the RNC had the best ground game in place that we've ever had we argue had staff on the ground in twenty three different states we are not pulling up any of that staff so based on the operation we had on the ground earlier than ever I think that's going to help us win back the house and Senate are keep our sanity I'll be reading other fingers cross runway shows your show whenever you have an opportunity to come on please do so thank you for the time today thanks for having me Joe you're very welcome we're back after this on the Joe pags show star writer.

"From CBS news. This is the takeout with major Garrett. That's me. Welcome to city tap, a great little pub right near DuPont circle. Western Washington, DC, our special guests, this week, Tom Perez, Democratic National Committee chairman, as I said, in the main show, Ronna McDaniel aren't see chairwoman invited to these microphones. She's been here before we wanna back for this election season as soon as possible to deal with whatever Tom Perez has been saying in the last hour and Brad, par scale chairman, the president's reelection campaign, that would be Donald J Trump forty fifth president Sates are both invited here. So just to make sure my audience knows they're all welcome. And we're going to have the same thorough in depth conversation with them as we had with Tom Perez. Tom, I won't ask you a little bit about the calendar. For the democratic nomination process twenty twenty there is a significant change in it this year in that California is much earlier in the process, and it has storage has been California's now the primaries on March third four hundred sixteen delegates at stake. Tex. Was there before Utah? Also in addition, North Carolina addition. But the biggest is California, how does that change from your vantage, point, what the candidates have to do what caliph what role, California will play in this process? And how does that alter the landscape? If you're if you're a democrat seeking the nomination, how do you wake California differently than you did before? It's, it's not only California major, it's also early voting. So when right in Iowa on February third. In california. We'll be receiving their ballots for early vote in California. And there are a number of other states that have early voting rights early voting in those other states will be occurring as the first either caucus or primary ballots are being countered in registered in Iowa. February third New Hampshire February eleventh, Nevada caucuses February twenty-second, South Carolina primary February twenty ninth. And by the way, one of the thing, we did major, which I think is really important in our goal was we want to increase participation. And so we took steps through our reform process to incentivize more primaries and less caucuses because more people participate in primaries. There are six states that had caucuses for years ago. They'll have Mary's this time, and those states that have caucuses. So it has to take stand are taking steps there's early voting in the Vata jewel caucus caucus in Iowa. What does this do this means if your shift worker in Nevada, you don't have to win the boss lottery to be able to vote or if you're deployed in Iowa? Nevada you can participate in the process Virgil. So what it also means in the in overall. And this gets to your broad question is that. You have to you. It's much harder to simply focus on one St. and hope you catch fire and one of the early states because by Super Tuesday, roughly forty percent of the delegates will have been allocated. Right. And so you've gotta have. Fifty state strategy early. Let me give you the math, ladies and gentlemen..

"This is all things considered from NPR news. I'm Mary Louise Kelley, and I'm Ari Shapiro. The controversy over Virginia. Governor Ralph north has managed the near impossible in politics. These days it has United Democrats and Republicans across the political spectrum. There is almost universal condemnation of a racist yearbook picture and revelations that governor Northam used shoe polish Darkin his face for a party back in nineteen Eighty-four. Meanwhile, here in Washington, Democrats and Republicans are gearing up for one of the key rituals of the political calendar. The state of the union we're going to put questions about both. These topics to our next guest Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel Ronin McDaniel welcomed all things considered. Thanks for having me. Great to be here. Great to have you with us. I saw your tweet today. You said it's time for them to face reality and step down. You don't see any path forward for him. I doubt I think even with leaders of his own party calling for his resignation. It's just going to be hard for him to heal his state, and he's had a past to this isn't just one isolated incident. We saw him remove Fairfax from his literature when he was running for governor. We've seen other instances from north them. And I think it's time for him to go. I want to allow you to respond to something that DNC chair Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez told me when I interviewed him today. Here is one thing we have done as Democrats is we have not hesitated to hold accountable people who violate our values, whether they're Republicans or Democrats, he's suggesting runner McDaniel that there's a double standard that Republicans have been a lot quicker to call for a democrat to resign than they have for any of their own. Why would disagree with that completely? When we had a candidate in Illinois. He was running. He got on the ticket. Clearly did not exemplify Republican views we've found. A third party candidate to run against him. Steve king was stripped of his committee ships with his agreed just comments, but continues to sit as a member of congress, but we have acted immediately. When you see with the Democrats national sorry, I'm just trying to raise she'd had to leave and well with Rashida to leave and and others in the Democratic Party with Keith Ellison, for example, the DNC co-chair as they have engaged with Louis Farrakhan, who is a known anti Semite who has called the Jewish people. Termites Dave continued to sit in their nation of Islam. Yeah. And not be removed. In fact, you have many Democrats have engaged with Louis Farrakhan. He sat on the stage next to Bill Clinton recently at a funeral. I mean, this is somebody who should be absolutely reviled by the democrat party. He is a known anti-semites. He has said horrific things about the Jewish people. And yet the democrat party continues to have their leaders engage with this gentleman, but just to press you on this. And then as you want to move onto the state of the union, I'm asking you a question about whether Republicans would be as quick to ask a Republican to step down. And you're giving me Gentles of Democrats who should resign. I'm saying Republicans have been quick to remove people from committees. We've been quick to denounce candidates running for office who don't ex- exemplify. Our values were quick to denounce candidates who say bad things. That's that's what we've done what you've seen from the democrat party is free passes. And you don't get enough media attention on these members of congress like Keith Ellison like Rashida to leave who say. Antisemitic things as. The the congresswoman now from Minnesota who has said terrible things about the Jewish people. And not only that they get committee chefs given Plum committees I'm going to jump in because we could go back and forth on this for our time. And I do want to get to the state of the union with you the state of union, which of course, follows the longest government shutdown in history. And I shut down that exposed deep fractures within your party. What are you hoping to hear from the president tomorrow that might go get us to the starting point of starting to heal those fractures are party agrees with the president that we need border security. We see the increase of drugs coming across our border. We know that ninety percent of the heroin, for example comes across our southern border. We have three hundred deaths from heroin week. We know human trafficking issues. We know asylum claims up seventeen hundred percent in eight years. So our party agrees on this. Democrats used to agree on this too. Many of them voted for common sense immigration reform under President Obama. I think it's time for us to come together and really solve problems that get kicked on the road far too often in the president's going to strike a bipartisan tone and extend his hand to Democrats come work with him on these issues. So just in the moments that we have left we've got about thirty seconds. Are you expecting to hear a message from the president that will reach beyond his base? I do I think the president has worked in a bipartisan manner, even with the shutdown. He said Nancy Pelosi. Let's put DACA on the table. Let's find a fix their this is something. He's. Demand for a while. Well, he given. No, first of all, I think some of that's been misrepresented. He has said a barrier. He's taking his he's taking his lead from the ice agents in the C BP P. Most of us would listen to the experts on the front line. That's our NC chair Ronna McDaniel, thanks so much. Thanks for having me, and you can hear my interview with Tom Perez chair of the DNC elsewhere on today's program. A new study published today in the proceedings of the National Academy of sciences says a woman's brain tends to remain youthful long after a man's brain has started to slow down NPR's John Hamilton reports a prison in their sixties may have the body of someone much younger and scientists at Washington University in sT Louis thought the same thing might be true of a person's brain. So they studied the brains of more than two hundred adults special scans revealed. Each brain's metabolism something that decreases with age Manu Goyal neuro radiologist says the team was hoping we could perhaps predict the age of the brain using that metabolic information. The scientists had a computer study. Metabolism changed with age, then they reversed the process and had the computer estimate a person's age using information on brain metabolism and goal says the approach worked. It's quite accurate. It's about maybe ninety percent accurate. Even so for some people. There was a big difference between their brain age and their chronological age and goal says the team wondered whether this difference was more pronounced in men or women when we looked at sex when we looked at males versus females we found in fact that females had a younger brain age relative to males about four years younger on average Goyal says it's not clear why women's brains remain youthful. In makes us wonder our hormones involved in influencing brain metabolism. And how ages or is it something else? Like genetics. Goyal says higher metabolism may give male brains and edge when it comes to learning and creativity in later life. But he says all that youth will vigor also could have a downside, the might also. Set up the brain for certain vulnerabilities, like Alzheimer's disease. But Roberta Diaz Brinton who studies brain aging at the university of Arizona has a more optimistic. Take on the results. It's great news. For many women Brinson says the great news is for the majority of women whose brain metabolism remains high as they age her research shows these women have a low risk of developing Alzheimer's, but Princeton says around menopause, a small proportion of women experience a dramatic drop in brain metabolism. This transition is actually an energy transition in the brain Brinton says women who develop metabolic problems tend to carry a gene that increases the risk for Alzheimer's. There are also at risk for type two diabetes. It's those women who will begin to develop the pathology of Alzheimer's disease. Earlier Brinton says as brain metabolism decreases in these women, there's an increase in the clumps of sticky protein associated with Alzheimer's. This is a process that starts very early in the aging process in some women, and we can intervene. How Brinton says it's a lot like preventing diabetes. The key is diet exercise and drugs that help the body and brain metabolize.
