"In part of my property that reminds me there was a race track here once like a beer bottle or piece of concrete but Anyway that's an excellent movie i. It's a good movie Short track racing. It's not quite of the quality of board versus Ferrari in Grand Prix and rush the interesting thing about that. Is I feel part of that movie at Martinsville speedway as well in the media center Martinsville. There is a large black and white photograph of Jeff Bridges with many of the crew. Sitting there on the pit wall at Martinsville speedway now lemonde with Steve McQueen which came out in the early nineteen eighties. That's kind of a weird movie arts. Would starting of the twenty four hours of Lama it ends with the ending of the twenty four hours of Lama and throughout the movie? Steve McQueen is sitting there talking with a woman whose husband was fatally injured in a crash that had happened previously. Lamar and is Steve. Mcqueen had been involved with that crash so is kind of a weird racing moving another strange movie involving racing. It's not racing's not the focus. But it's called the last chase and it came out for saw it in the early nineteen eighties as well and Lee. Majors is in it. And it's about an era where some apocalypse has occurred and all of the cars in the United States have been destroyed or eliminated except in California California's. The only place where car still exist. And there's no gas stations. They're all out of business and everything but Lee majors plays a race car driver who wanted to keep his race car from being destroyed and he took it apart and buried it underneath the floor in his house. Will this young teenager finds out who he is and they decided they're going to put that race car back together and make it to California will. The government doesn't want them to make it to California because they're afraid if they make it to California people will want to go back to using their own cars in having their own cars and basically the car industry will return so this is kind of a weird scary movie all at the same time if you WanNa Watch one just for fun. That's cannonball run. There used to be honest to goodness a cannonball run from one coast to the other coast in this country and this movie again. A lot of license was taken in Hollywood but this movie is about or based on that that used to occur from one coast to the other coast many many years ago now. Thunder Road isn't erasing movie Per Se. But I mean let's face it. Stockcar racing did grow for Moon Shining and thunder road is about moon shining stars. Robert Mitchum is a classic is a lot of it was filmed in Asheville North Carolina. And if you're familiar with places in Asheville North Carolina you recognize Bo catcher tunnel. You WILL RECOGNIZE PLACES IN WEST. Asheville the service station that it blows up in the movie was filmed as you come across the Smoky Park Bridge. Think the name of it's been changed now. West Gate Shopping Centre. She come across the bridge. And you make the laugh like you're going on. I twenty six. What is I twenty six now? But that was the way we'd go to Asheville Weaverville speedway. That's where the service station blew up in every time my dad and I went to Asheville Weaverville. That's what he would tell me is. Oh that's where. They blew up the service station in Thunder Road. So Thunder road is definitely a classic. This is just a few of the racing movies that are out there. There's red line seven thousand which was made back in the sixties. I just a tremendous amount of rising movies years ago. Winston Cup illustrated did a feature on various racing movies that had been made and they're racing movies in there that. I had no idea one that really surprised me and I don't recall the name of it but it started Clark Gable and Barbara Stanwyck to people whom I never thought it would have been in a racing movie so if you get to researching. I think you'll find that it will take a lot of time and you'll be amazed how that will help. Cure your withdrawals from racing. Now if you really don't want to do anything else There's also got children. Pull out go to the of course now at this time. I've got two two. Promo five of my books Ray. Ever Him It talks about right Abraham early years. His modified Racing Amazon listed as being by Ray Abraham and not by me because ever Hams name is on the cover of the book but my name is on the and I'm listed inside is the author of it. Then you have. Ron Newman engineering speed. If you WANNA learn more about Ron Newman's engineering days in his early days in sprint cars and open wheel cars. I think you'll find it fascinating. He'll give you a lot of insight into run newman as a person and then there's the evolution of Nascar. There's a lot of items in there that I think will consume a lot of your time as you look and examine and there's ranging from Bill France seniors original business card to brochures from racism the nineteen sixties. Whitman Publishing. Did that book. And the design editor did a fabulous job of pulling the photography. And everything together. We spent a couple of days. Well actually more than a couple of days in the archives at Nascar pulling the photos and everything that's in that book and what we tried to do were obtain items that fans you. The fans would be interested in and had never seen before evolution of ask car. I've seen it still available on Amazon Dot Com. Then my latest two books are on Charlotte Motor speedway history. One is Charlotte Motor speedway granted gold. It's by the history press and it requires a lot of reading the one that came out in two thousand seventeen which is our Katya publishing and it's modern images of America Charlotte Motor speedway. It's the history of the speedway in photographs and it has lit the photo captions to it. So it's a quicker read and it's easy to start and then stop and then start again because it's not like losing your place in a paragraph or page or something like that so I have to give a plug for myself..

"Prior to add gentlemen. Do you WANNA start at the start of the race at the end of the race because there was a lot to it. I thought start with the end. We heard Stephen Donald just address it. You guys have both had altercations with other drivers. What's what's your opinion on the antics. After the race by BUBBA walls above needed to collect himself right there I mean he you know what I mean. You walk up to a car and you see somebody getting medical attention. It's time just turn and walk away and and I'm sorry I can't I can't one big package right but so bubba walls these couple of eighty to learn something and that's there's a time and a place and I get it. You're mad. The Guy Spun out. Put you in a bad position. You got allies understand. He should be mad right but but you can't go around the racetrack for three laps flipping somebody off because that is behind. You and there's only so much of that. He's going to take no matter what happened right at some point wait. He didn't mean to do it. He didn't mean to record erect himself right so bunnies collect himself a little bit and not think world's APP getting understand that things things happen sometimes and not put himself in that situation. I will say this. I'm not going to give Alex moment of pass. I don't think you hook somebody in the right route a quarter panel as as a payback. There's there's a you want to spend somebody out. There's a better way to do that. You don't want them in the right panel and send them driver's side to the wall like I'm I he deserves. It's a predecessor for that as well so both of these guys needed to collect themselves a little bit and do a better job here in managing their anger and if it take somebody in Bubbas camp to help him in situations like this. There's no doubt fit when he went over to Alex after this race is over and seeing him sitting. Mary and he's getting medical attention. You do say hey. We'll Tom. You can be stirring and his firm. You WanNa be with that but you don't do what he did right there and again. You don't as a general rule. You don't turn someone the wrong way and I say the wrong way. This is going to send them towards the wall short-track racing whatever it is you don't do that so Alex Wong. I'm still questioning Alex Bomas in a car that he hadn't been in all weekend I would would've been backing all way before the signs ever started not knowing how this car is. GonNa Act and react as I get to this game for the first time to even put himself and Bubba and others others in that situation but that happens every drivers a little bit different and how they want to go about that so you know there's false for both of them but I will say this have to give Alex Bowman critic. He showed me something at the end of the race as a race driver and as a competitor that I wasn't sure he had any because four two thirds of that race he'd done everything as wrong as he could possibly do it to keep himself from moving on in the playoffs and then with the call to put tires on. He did everything everything right that he needed to do from that point forward well for two thirds of the weekend. Forget the race so let's go back and talk to you. I'm going to let the driver dispute end with the driver comm comments as a Coochie who chief I look at the performance of the eight and what they're trying to accomplish. They show up on Friday. They're good. They qualify in the front row. Everything on Saturday looks okay. I wish they probably had four speed. They wish it as well but they end up wrecking with thirty seconds to go and practice to get back of car out then insert your comments. After this accident practice you would think lab. One of the rover would be as as you could get not a tackle single corner. He spins out he then has to serve a penalty all day long. They continue to make mistakes aches but then in the end though the checkered flag for the end of stage shoe they all lined up in Stage three and I didn't see this drive out of Alex moment and I was wrong but the drive type of Alex moment matches the drive chase Elliott which was better. I don't know he was under the weather. You had the pressure of the playoffs. He had guys behind him. Every time they found on points they moved ahead of him and Greg was letting him know and at one point. I questioned if he was going to win the race. Could he chased them. It was a gutsy drive to a very messy weekend. They have to clean that mess up. That's not gonna be that easy and this round so so the moment too big for outstanding yeah. It look like there was too much pressure. It was too big a moment too much on the line and he wasn't he wasn't handling it well then. He got it together and when he got it together together he became a guy that I hope that Alex Bowman looks back on this and says this was a defining race for me because I wasn't at my best. I did not do my job and he didn't but then he got it together and made it happen and went and put Ryan Newman in a position to have to be overdriving happened to be pushing his this car right and so so own a day where he had his very very worst he also had very very best and that's okay they had he not gotten that best out of it though it could have been detrimental because emotionally you let your team down. You had a fast race car. You qualified about second with it like all that was great but then you wrecked it. Then you read your backup car then erected again I mistake obviously it could have been detrimental could have driven him in the ground but now now he can say I did it like I made this happen and I think that that can be extremely powerful for him and this team where you're talking about powerful moving forward. Dj Aw finished second in all three of the tracks in the in Dover Talladega Kansas second second second first trip there in the Spring Eric unroll a year ago uh-huh tied advanced deep into the playoffs after the adversity in the first round. How far can Alex Bowman take this Spring Board of the Robo. How far or can he take him into the playoffs okay so I hope they gave him the day off to rest up. I would have him on tomorrow if I were greg is and Rick Hendrick and I would say look you are tremendously sleep talented but when you overdrive R race cars you're not so good you make people mad. You make bad decisions. We have good enough race cars for you to use use your talent which you did once we got you in a position and you calm down and kind of realized that hey this might not happen but I'll go pass as me got overdriving driving the race car and ninety percent of the time it's just going to get you in trouble and make other people mad and when he didn't do that he just drove that race car to his potential and the cars potential he passed a lot of race cars fast all but one and I was sitting down and had that conversation and say we can go a long way because these are three really good places. You have coming up. I think they can do that if if they calm him down and I would add in call bubble walls and call Austin Dillon. I don't care you're in the playoffs. They're not gonNA have to be the bigger man because guess what we have more to lose the next three tracks. You don't have to apologize you but we're not. GonNa let loose say on said. We're going to have a conversation about it. It's too late with Austin yeah yeah because he kind of doubled down. Kinda double down this weekend so yeah those are lessons that unfortunately are generally learned the hard way and and you hope it doesn't come back again. Well Alex Bowman did move four but it was a tough day for Ryan Newman who was unable to advance to the next round. We're GONNA take a look at his very eventful day. When we return they're Nice cruiser seventeen. You just have to put him on somewhere. He's record where he's asked. Who may have the staff need about five four. Yes be all four tires outside of the curve. We were right outside the curtain. You had to be outside the curb your tires around the curve in have to pass through. You're going to have to argue the rest of the checkers checkers checkers job there by five and five eighty eight per second last year we we came out on the good side leaving the Robo and went on to have a great rest of the playoffs and finished fifth in the points I'm still really proud of this race team. we've you know we've we've achieved a lot. certainly not the way we wanted to go out of the playoffs but as part of it sometimes we fought hard today didn't implode might have made a couple of guys upset but don't much matter to me. We'll just keep digging. brought everybody routes fenway and not the way we wanted to finish our day but it is part of it and we knew coming in. We're at a big deficit and just didn't have the race car. Learn racecar driver today that we need. I'm GonNa Start with that. One Ryan Newman Eric Amoah Ryan Newman both missed the second round of the playoffs. I was very critical on newman throughout the year. I just hadn't seen the improvement out Arash friend white. Perhaps I had hoped to see and I think that maybe they just didn't show it because there were they were running trying to build their stuff up inventory right because when the playoffs came this sixteen was a new team decent Las Vegas and practice not as good in the race outstanding at Richmond. I didn't give them a chance to run as well as they did and at times on Sunday I was pretty confident. Ryan Newman who's GonNa make me eat my words and he was going to move through. Do he ended up making that mistake. We saw it and they're missing the chicane but I think that was just the final touch of what he said. I don't think they had the car. He blames himself. I think a little a bit of overdriving because he's trying. He's trying to put this team on his shoulder and take them into the second round. I don't ever blame the guy for that. No I mean my gosh. I've said in a number of times that that if you had to vote right now that Martin true ex junior would be the driver of the year and Ron Newman would finish a close second in my book and my voting way that I would do it but taking a eighteen that really has lou business being inside the top twenty the way that they started the season and what we've seen over the last couple of years and for what Ron Newman was able to do it was just phenomenal but it's another example that when you get put in the situation and have to overdrive your race car didn't think you're going to happen because you're trying to charge every corner when something often happens in front of you could see that car just beat up especially the front end of it and you can't blame the guy for trying you know he was doing what he had to do. At that point time it's been a tremendous year huge strides big gains with what we've seen recently for that race thing so that means good things for a really talented robber that that spot that he gave up quite possibly was the reason I mean it's it's all worked out. Eddie finish their he moves on but admiral behind him on new tires cars all torn up and they don't stop as well as you want to do like that and I'll say something else so if you're Ralph in way and you're trying to dig out of the hole that they're in Dan. How much effort can you really put into a rogue horse bro. Yeah you're right so you go to Charlotte on the role. You're disadvantaged because everybody you're racing with.

"That's what's going to happen. If if he goes firsthand racism, he's not really competing and challenging for a win. And especially if he's making mistakes that cost him a win. He's going. I think he'll be under the gun. Who else you're looking at Jeff. I really don't have anybody else right now. Besides I mean, he's number one on my hip parade. And I hate to say that because I think the other organizations are have made some adjustments already one bit surprised to see chip-making adjustment over there. As far as Jamie Murray is concerned, no matter how good and solid. He is. He was not able to hit wins and his teammate was up there. You know, challenging leading almost winning or winning. Those are the kind of things that you gotta start looking at when you got multi year group here, Ricky Stenhouse junior I think he's got to be feeling some pressure right now that you know, with all the changes in the always got Ron Newman coming there. Oh, yeah. Random it Ron Newman needs to make something happen. So you got a couple of guys over that rash Fenway that need to make something happen. So there's not just Denny Hamlin. It's it's basically under the microscope, but he isn't one of the best positions. One of the best sponsors and one must recognize talents. That we expect to perform we can and week out. So he's kind of like number one. I say Stenhouse and Ryan Newman or second third at least on much on my list. That's exactly what I was gonna say is route Fenway as a whole, you know, two thousand eighteen I would argue that for the Fords were probably the best in the business absolute and rows Fenway was nowhere to be found and they were running Fords. Okay. Well, now, you're switching to a new body which Ford believes is going to be better than what they were running with the fusion. So you've got that going for you got a new rules package. So we're leveling low. Allegedly were leveling the playing field for everybody. Everybody starting from scratch. And this is a company that we talked about earlier used to have five cars and was running over the competition. They put off five cars in the playoffs at one point. They've won championships in trucks, they've won championships inexpensively and they've been out to lunch. The last couple years. They've changed crew chief team drivers they've changed personnels and pick. They've probably chain. I know they have changed a ton over there and nothing has held. They have got to turn it around. I mean, I not only do they have to turn it around for their fan base in for themselves. But I wonder how much longer they can keep going at this pace before. Before affects their livelihood. I mean, they've they've struggled a little bit with sponsors Stenhouse, sometimes doesn't always have a fully funded. You know, he's running the Ford logo. Right. Same thing with the six they had to shut down their xfinity program. So not only do I think they have to turn around because this is rouse Fenway in. It's Jack roused for for how far those names go. But I just how much longer can you run like this before you just have to throw your hands up in the air and try and do something different. Very good question. And I don't have a really good answer because I have got the utmost respect for Jack, Roush. Absolutely. And that they have definitely got at one time. They got off off base and in conversation with Jack Jackson was real simple. It was a math equation that had the wrong numbers in the wrong places that through all our geometry off. And we thought it was right? And we had to go back to ground zero start over the amazing thing is and this is where I'll call out the manufacturer. No different. Not call at Toyota based off of what they did in my opinion. Barney Visser Ford mazes have come in there and say look Jack Roush was carrying the banner for forward a longtime. He in the wood brothers were Ford long before Stewart Haas aim before Penske racing. So it's like I feel a little bit bad that they're not helping them a little bit more to bring that me. I don't I don't expect them to give them the best of the best. Forgive him. At least enough to where all of a sudden if we're talking about six teams or seven teams, they ought to at least number eight, right? Not saying you need to go in there and make rouse Fenway, your number one priority. No. But but could they be doing more is that a is Jeffs is that a logical question that you know, or a legitimate question? Jeff is you could Ford be doing more to help this company? That is a legendary company and has an owner who. Has invested so much in the sport. And like just Jeff said has has led that company for so long could the manufacturer be doing? And I go way back when we talk about Joe, Jack. I look at Jack Rowell's just like I look at the wood brothers. They have been so loyal to the blue oval. I really hope that they can find it to help them get back to where they can be competitive because I mean, the, you know, they definitely helped would brothers and Blaney you know, when they needed it. So I'd like to see something, you know. Come out in two thousand nineteen that will give Jack and opportunity once again to lift you say when he walks in that garage area because he definitely deserves it when we come back time for gas and go stay with.

"Lead. Three for the lead. Advantage here. Eighteen puts. Eighteen into the wall to hear. About that. If you don't like that kind of race in don't even watch. So that was the first race in our fortune NBC's half looking back and kind of forget how great a finish. That was. And for Kyle Larson. The fact that he would go the rest of the year without a wins is unbelievable. I don't think we thought that was going to be possible as this young man made a name for himself in shown what kind of talent that was just incredible racing by two drivers there. I'm still amazed. They call Larson didn't spend that car even go through all of that that he stayed in the gas and got it. Correct. And the job that both of them did just wanting that win so bad. But. A number of drivers that we thought were going to win this year number of Danny and Jimmy Johnson long streaks of winning a race every year and had that snapped. And you can say now they're on this list that you don't want to be a part of. But everybody goes through it. No, you do not want to be a part of it. And you mentioned it shocked at collars didn't win. I was shocked that Jimmy Johnson. Didn't win Ricky Stenhouse, I won't say I was shocked. But I thought he had a chance and Denny maze. Never missed out as entire career. So I definitely lost that bed. The question now, though is who do you think will bounce back the soonest? I'm not sure if I have an answer other than I think Jimmy Johnson is gonna come out strong two thousand nineteen I think he's gonna be the first one that wins off this list for the simple fact that I've been part of winless Jeff Gordon's first winless season. Unfortunately, it was with me in two thousand eight we went winless after a great two thousand seven and I remember during that two thousand eight year. It was like drowing, right? You just could never you didn't know which way was up. You can never get any air week after week after week at a disappointment. And it. Took the off season to stop. And really remember that you have a great job working in. Nascar's the coolest thing in the world. I have a superstar racecar driver. Let's just kind of get the pieces together we came out in two thousand nine we won at Texas. I look at Jimmy Johnson the same what he has no idea. What it's like to go winless. He's never done it. So now that he has now that the emotion of the crew chief changed all that kind of behind him. We saw them in Bahrain driving an f one car spending time this family. He just reminds me of that that big name that maybe just need a little time to take a breath, and I expect Jimmy Johnson the comeback in two thousand nineteen funds ablaze and once he wins. Then Kyle Denny Hamlin. A we don't want to be on this list. We're going to have to win to think, Jamie. I out of those Jimmy Jimmy. Thank you. I have to look at somebody. This won the Daytona five hundred nothing Dinnie out of that group has the best chance of winning the Daytona five hundred again, the Gibbs cars are always strong there. Dinnie understands that draft as good as anybody in getting himself in a position by the end of those races. Does good a job, but the dry. On that list. There's going to try the hardest is no doubt going to be Ricky stand out understanding that the Daytona five hundred is within his reach of of winning a race. He's not gonna know. Exactly. I think that the rules pack is going to play to their favorite probably at rouse benway. And I think his teammate be of good one therefore him with Ron Newman coming over there. But I think that Denny Hamlin says himself up as the man to to win early on predictions. So hard out here in the officers, the whiteboard and Parker Kluger back in January of this year wrote down what sixteen drivers we're gonna make the playoffs and I only had eleven right? He had fourteen credit..

"Uh with our citizenry and uh and it's in many ways has a chief that and so uh that's a great satisfaction you know i wish it had happened earlier we should happen while we were plane but uh it has uh certainly come about in many ways well all right so um uh let's say maybe get to the tail end of your a tornado career because uh obviously under new coach came in seventy six so in a row newman obviously having a led the team for quite some time and ironically the guy i'll miller who was the coach of the team that beat you in 73 in the in the final uh and uh you know and you know different sensibilities uh the league obviously growing by leaps and bounds and then you wind up a finding yourself in a an expansion team in houston has a combat well luckily go back to a little bit i had a really good year and seventy seven oh i'm so somewhere in the top 10 on member what was but again it was the were were playing against hawaii uh uh and i don't i i don't know exactly what the riff was between ron newman if there was any uh and lamar i in many ways wish ron who's willing to uh empty willing to stay uh and i probably could have found out what the reasons were but you know as a player that's really not your job you just you know whoever the coaches you do what you can and uh.

"Dick hall maybe still the uh he's probably athletic director now but he was the soccer coach for thing was greenhill if i recall greenhill academy uh all of us had to have extra revenue beyond what we were being paid uh and that was a carryover really from the early seventies and you know to the all my teammates credit they all understood that was the deal you know we're here not just to win games are also here to win people were not here just to make money were give an inch this is about giving an opportunity uh to play and to see america and to and several those people obviously have become citizens and uh been very good contributors and bobby moffitt to really good example uh and uh that was just the air and and i give ron newman credit for this because as i think i mentioned to you earlier he was very adamant uh and very strong uh in what the guidelines in the rules were and so we all understood that if someone from the front office called us and said can you make an appearance at jefferson elementary school um you know right after practice on tuesday uh it was yes ma'am yes sir was we're going to go do it uh and did you get anything absolutely not that was just part of the adventure and the venture and the vision and uh with very few exceptions in there were a and there were few but particularly among the old the the older guys who who'd been there around for awhile uh uh getting can cooper in and uh bobby moffitt in a roy turner and those guys they all totally understood what this was about yes it's about playing good soccer entertaining soccer winning soccer but it's also about winning a region of america that is focused on totally different world of football for the most part and uh not to ever eliminate and the purpose and to this day i don't ever want to hurt american football i just wanna get world football on an equal status um with.

"And they one in seventy one one in the championship but uh it was also that we we had to um bring soccer to the rest of the community and so every single player on the team i think without exception uh spent time in kind of civic activities going to schools doing uh exit an little exhibitions uh and the media was a simple sometimes i went down to walk side walks a hatschi which is south of dallas and not quite an hour and uh went into school and i just held up by uh a soccer ball said uh you know you know this is uh this is a soccer ball because they had never seen a soccer ball they then you football basketball baseball but they never really knew what a soccer ball was and we did that in great part and one of our guys who you've talked to in the past bobby moffitt bobby saw his vision as all of west texas and so i'm i'm bob he did a fabulous job over the years of vix of exposing west texas uh which is a very dry um unpopulated part of the state but he went to lubbock he went to apollini went to a number of uh cities that the rest of us never went to uh and he too helps plant the seeds of a bringing soccer to the youth uh vat community and i think all of us were really focused on uh getting the kids to smile getting the kids to realize there was another way in which they could participate in athletics beyond the obvious ones that they were aware of from national tv and all that stuff and so i really do think that the phrase for us was kind of soccer missionaries and that was uh emphasized by uh ron newman at a level um that none of us were when none of us wanted to fight ron physically i can say that to an rajistan that high energy got we have to go uh the phrase was anytime anywhere and so we all did anytime anywhere uh activities and events all over the dallasfort worth area and for some like bobby moffitt sometimes even out to west texas so it was a uh kind of a dual.

"Uh we had good goalkeeper who was a basketball player in six three and could go up in the air and get the ball and uh and that certainly helped but uh uh that is how i got exposed to ron newman who is in the coach of uh the dallas tornado in ultimately was the gentleman who uh a few years later ended up picking me in the first round uh of the very first uh nasl draft uh and 19 seventy two uh lamar hunt was such a brilliant visionary he felt like if we're going to american i soccer we needed to add some of the very same structures that uh other sports hadn't draft who's one of those and uh uh so he added that and uh again i was fortunate 1970s tell even though i was not playing in the dallasarea during my college career uh the atlanta chiefs uh had already scouted me and i had a number of teams that were looking at uh me at the time but uh an doused took me in the first round and uh wron was the one who made that uh selection and he's the one who would seem me score a few goals against his dallas tornado in those uh little uh semi intensive a practice elements that we did with the the pro team there uh and so i'm very thankful that he had the confidence um and i think lamar fire hall with that may have also been the first year in which every and any sl team had to have an american on the team so you know sorta early years they brought in.

"You know what were there i had no idea that they were signing players 1213 fourteen a jews uh at those ages um and they would train them soccer but that also train them in blue collar skills uh electricity and plumbers and those kinds of things so that uh they had another way to earn a living beyond the soccer if they didn't make it and and so it was a totally different system than the american academic system and i will say to that i think they're high school competency uh most of the guys that i played within professional soccer never went beyond h heison the what we would call high school but their high schooler who was certainly like a to your college uh they're a high competency academic competency in their high school programs that we didn't have here uh really in the us and so that was another discovery of mine now during our a monthlong visit to england and scotland we also played in ireland uh and uh so ron kind of took us around uh an entertained uh people in britain and to let them know that uh soccer has landed in america and uh here's an example of even even some texans that are actually playing soccer and are adequate enough uh to be able to compete a little bit well okay so there's another ron that sort of comes into the into the mixture to write an and i suspect the first round that you're mentioning a ron griffeth abb was instrumental in what i guess was a serendipitous a scrimmage right i guess you were you're playing against the the the than the then dallas tornado either as as as a scrimmage were were uh maybe on a on a regular sort of a informal basis and and the is that perhaps how you got the attention of what was then the sort of fledgling nasl dallas tornado ron newman experience.
