"Adults find TV ads to be trustworthy. So Neil recently has done TV ad and I still think you're going to be doing TV ads for the rest of the year, yes? I'm struggling to get inventory right now. So I'm spending the money, but they're not spending it. In other words, I'm giving the money to the companies who get you TV ad placements, but they're unable to spend the money right now. But that through a wrench in my model. So I'll see what happens over the next few months. That was due to the U.S. Afghanistan pullout. It took up a lot of the news time, which totally deserves it. But that caused a lot of the people who are paying for ad spots previously to not get the airtime that they quote unquote were promised. So a lot of the channels are making up for it. Yep. And so I guess when you think about, I'm just going to go interview style here. So what have you found with your initial ads in terms of adult performance? When you look at the older demographics, especially 50 plus, what we've seen is they have this belief that if you're on TV or a big company and in most cases, you're a trustworthy company. Whether that's true or not, you know, that's up for debate, but from what we surveyed from what we've talked to, that's what a lot of people feel at least within our market. And we found that even though TV ads are expensive, in a lot of cases for direct consumer companies, they're just a little bit more expensive than Facebook. They're not drastically more. What we found is just people believe if you're on TV or really massive company and you've done well and you're doing a lot of amazing things. Yeah, there's a trust element that's established when meals on a CNBC, for example, or let's say you're on Bloomberg, right? I guess there's a same company. But when you're on those channels, it's legit. And then the other thing I'll say to you is this meal's talking about demographic 50 plus, but adults are also technically 21 plus at least in the United States, right? You can be looking at OTT advertising, which is over the top advertising, which means advertising that's delivered to viewers, well, over to Internet, through streaming videos, or different devices, Roku, I believe, Roku, Hulu, all those, right? You can end up buying ads on them because Hulu and a lot of those quote unquote streaming services have commercials. Yep. So yeah, I mean, it's worth taking a look at it, depending on what you're selling. Your product or service are you selling is worth testing? Because at the end of the day, everyone's hating Facebook right now. Everyone's hitting Google. I believe 40% of all venture capital dollars go directly into Facebook and Google. So you got to think in a scenario for marketers, marketers understand how to zig when others are Zac ing, right? So that is it for today, go to marketing school to IO slash live. That's Liv, live it happening, November 7th to the 9th outdoors in Miami. It's going to be great. So go there to register and we'll catch you later. And so you warm often channels than we've ever had before people are all over the place and they need to get to them quick us. So that's a challenge at roku the way we're trying to handle these things is we've really started to invest into a crm. And so all go. But before i got here we have channels. You know what they call multichannel marketing. We did that. Everyone's trying to do that and everyone's trying to do on me channel marketing but the way we're focusing about is really trying to now and get the power about platform out and one of my roles here at here. The brains of what we do is all this manual curation and execution that needs to happen. So that's what we're we're focused today for the channel. Let's talk a little bit about roku I think most listeners. Wherever they are in the world have probably experienced roku at some point in time but your business is pretty vast like as i was researching for this conversation. I mean you got the devices but you got the operating system itself and they've got a content but like how. How do you think about the business. And how would you define what roku is doing today. Rea- the number one streaming platform in america and in canada and business has to core offerings quickly. Tell you about them and how we have all of those kind of working together like you said it's devices right before the right devices than we have. Tv's these these devices on tv's really offer. An easy way to watch tv will most uses that. This is what they used to get to the net fixes who's disney's and and the roku channel the tv's however people know us for devices but with the number one in three tv's in the us powered by rogue who we partner with multiple manufacturers like tcl and high sense to do that and then the second paul about a business is the problem business and that's made up hold. Three pillars is advertising right. That is what we do at cole. And then we've got a content partnerships like the streaming providers. I just mentioned and then of course the roku channel and all of that works together and is really how we on a ties of the business then as we drive a little deeper into the platform. Business and roku channel. How do describe what roku channel is for listeners. And what makes it unique or special. The rookie channel is an ad supported. Channel that is on the roku platform but is not only on the roku peplum..

It's a really really complicated place to be right now to be a marketa it not only. Do you need the traditional side of marketing. But you really need to be technology forward and data the line. I think i think of them in three buckets like the way i look at these. Three levers are just kind of poke into a minute. And i looked at them in every job that i've had but it's just gotten much worse. Not only is is in enough growth to be had but you'll losing resource is having to just become more and more efficient and those three things i tend to focus on. Everything is moving so foster and humans can't keep up with it. I mean you need to be able to mock it and deliver personalized experiences at i. Cool at the speed over tick-tock swipe if you get to the consumer that quickly especially five years from now the relevance of you being around is just is just going to get northern and then with talking about like things like ticked off. The media. Landscape is so fragmented right. Keep her on instagram. In their own take talkin will watching. Tv they're watching multiple devices. Xbox Is Coming to Your TV Without a Console
"There's been a lot of video game news lately but some the caught my years was that microsoft is looking to bring its xbox game pass service directly to television. That's correct the xbox game pass ultimate subscription service which you can of like microsoft's answer to video games as what net is to movies and tv. It costs fourteen ninety nine a month and currently gets you more than one hundred games on. Pc's and android tablets and phones all without an xbox console now microsoft says it wants to make the service available on more screens including working with tv's and the company is working with tv makers to embed an xbox experience to internet connected devices so basically if you have a tv and a good internet connection you can bypass the three hundred to five hundred dollars. You might spend on a console and have all your games stored in the cloud. This would certainly seem a great way to expand the xbox audience brett. I mean not. Everyone wants a console and right now not everybody can get the new console. They want because they just aren't enough out there. By the way cloud gaming could be the future games as google and amazon. Both app services running now and playstation has playstation. Now service that lets you stream games on. Pc's in addition to its game consoles amazon. Let you stream on. Pc's max amazon fire tv and on smartphones and google stadia streams games two. Tv's it uses google chromecast but it also streams games to various tablets and devices so. It's not a giant leap for a tv to have an app or a bit of software bill inside to do this. Yeah absolutely and it's interesting too because they're gonna also introduced a couple other ways you can Play xbox games. Microsoft said it's also building devices to connect just for streaming game so almost feels like a roku or chromecast but just for your xbox and it's also going to have browser gaming so you can play games on google chrome safari microsoft edge in the next few weeks. We're likely get more news from and xbox before e three in the summer game fester over because there's an xbox in but does the showcase coming up so keep listening in the days ahead as we'll break that down for you

Google vs. Roku Over the YouTube TV App
"Either listeners. It's brett molina here. Welcome back to talking tech by co host. Mike snyder is off today now. I thought one of the benefits of switching from cable to streaming was. We'd avoid a lot of these carriage deals you're about you know the case where you see an ad maybe for your carrier from channel saying you're gonna lose this channel by the end of the month. Let your cable provider no familiar with all that messaging will it seems like that kind of stuff has carried over now into the streaming world and the latest example of this is roku versus google roku has warned users of its devices who are also subscribes to youtube tv that they might lose access to the app citing quote unfair terms and quote from google according to a copy of the email that was obtained by usa today which you can read about tech usa today dot com the company behind the popular media streaming players told users that recent oceans with google to continue to carry youtube tv broke down because roku cannot accept what they call google's terms as we believe they could harm our users The email also says it roku is committed to reaching a deal so that they can keep youtube tv on the players. Now of course. Google has responded to this day in in their statement. They say they're disappointed that they chose that roku has chosen to make these kind of claims while they continue to go and that they are trying the best they can to offer a deal that benefits the viewers of tv as well as everyone that owns a roku Now this isn't the first time we've heard with roku hosting other apps as you recall when hbo max launched in may twenty twenty. It wasn't on the platform for quite a while. I think it was several months. Wasn't until december of that year ahead of the
Apple Launches a New Remote
"What upgrades did we get with this new apple. Tv four k remote will. This was a long overdue. Refresh the change the color first and foremost it's now a much easier to find silver kind of like the older apple remote new directional pad as opposed to just relying solely on gestures which let the old or most recent apple tv remote had others new power button and siri. Button of the front of the remote is now relegated to the side. Got it so. I know you have a chance to use it. This was just announced yesterday in the presentation. But what are your early impressions of this thing. As before long overdue the original apple tv herbs sign up the original apple tv but the most recent apple tv remote had a bevy of issues for a lot of people. It's was very slippery it's small. It was easy to lose inside a couch. I don't know a as you mentioned. I haven't had a chance to use yet. This could still be all those things but on the surface. It looks like it's a lot easier to use especially because it has the directional pad as opposed to just using a track pad and the fact that it has the power button for turning on the tv is also easier. You could do that before on the apple. tv but now there's a dedicated button it just a step easier as opposed to having to find the right button on the original right colleague. David katz myer says that the remote control is the biggest upgrade to this apple tv. Four k box In terms of size you mentioned it was easy to lose that original controller like Impression that the upgrades. The changes were improvements. Made this new one will solve some of those annoying issues. It looks like it's a little bigger. Which should be easier to hold in also easier to find in the fact that it's the aluminum looking silver all around supposed to just on the back with but the previous from are having it all black front or largely black front mid easier lose. This hopefully will be more noticeable. I do wish however the they put in that you w one chip than the ultra wideband ship. So you could find. It was the same way you can find air tax. Wish they did. That doesn't seem like at least right now. It's in
Free Streaming Service Breaks Into Original Content
"Is streaming service out there. That's making moves as of late and if you don't mind watching a few ads here and there you don't have to pay for its content. Either that service is to be. Do you be i which was bought last year by fox for a cool four hundred and forty million. The sale brought around twenty thousand additional titles to the platform and marked. Fox's first foray into the streaming wars to these offerings range from tyler perry films to the nineteen ninety classic ghost so a bit of a mixed bag there as of this writing one of the most popular titles on the app was the two thousand adam sandler movie little nicky nineties. Kids rejoice when the sale of to fox was finalized last march company executives. Were clear they had no plans to produce original content. The verge reported at the time. Don't think of it. As a competitor disney plus netflix's apple tv plus or hulu verge wrote noting that all four of those platforms regularly stream their own content. Well how quickly. Things change bloomberg reported last week that to be is in talks with advertisers about funding yup original tv shows and movies. That didn't take long did it. The move comes after a record. Twenty twenty for the platform which saw usage numbers jumped fifty eight percent. Those growth numbers are pretty attractive to advertisers. To be will make three hundred million in ad revenue this fiscal year according to bloomberg and fox. Cfo steve tomsic said that revenue could grow to one billion dollars in coming years. The nudge for two to explore. Original content may have come from a close competitor. The roku channel which streams free movie shows and live news partnering with outside networks announced. The premiere of its first original series. This month roku got it start building software for smart. Tv's but his leaning into the success of its streaming service roku over fifty million active accounts by the end of twenty twenty according to deadline in the world of streaming services. Much attention is paid to. Well paid services like netflix and users of that platform repeatedly site the lack of ads as its most attractive feature according to emarketer with a free ad supported streaming market growing by leaps and bounds. The question is which of these. Two contenders will emerge victorious. Is there room for both online. Someone go get the popcorn
Microsoft may make its xCloud service available on a browser
"Do you play xbox games on your web browser microsoft maybe working on making its ex cloud game streaming service even more accessible writer chang. This is your daily charge here. Talk with us about x. Cloud gaming expert offering zola's so what is the latest with ex cloud. So right now myself is testing the streaming platform on web browsers report game outset company. Employees are currently testing it. And this comes before the big public preview the expectation for that is sometime in the spring where everybody else is going to be able to play the browser and for our listeners. Who aren't hardcore gamers. What exactly is cloud. Ex code is microsoft's streaming service. It's it's like the netflix video games. You pay a monthly subscription and games are available of via the xbox game pass and that could be streamed to your android device. It's a ciccio like having an xbox in the cloud ryan what games are we talking about these sort of current titles as it sort of back catalogue of older titles is anything is basically a free for all. It's a very wide range. Aid comes so you have. All the microsoft owned properties which includes of course like halo Bethesda games like fallout. So you have those games And also a lot of the newer games What the brand new ones and medium that's available and that's an xbox series access. Gabe came out. And you can play it on there. So you have those you have the bigger titles those you have any titles. You have odor games so we too wide range of what's available on the xbox xbox game pass got end in terms of the devices you know. There's the browser that we're talking about today you mentioned android. What about iphones ipads will. This is where the news of the web browser is the big news. This will allow ex class. Actually play on ipads and iphones will. What happened was win. Marks off tried to get x. Cloud approved by apple For the app store Apple said well since this includes two hundred games. Do you need to submit every game to be reviewed and of course that's a that's a paid especially since they switch out games every every mother's new games that come in and new games at go out so instead a string of Indicates amazon. Luna which will talk about embiid They're doing their service via web browser. And that sort of sparked. The idea of marks off of mike up began working on that. So yes this will allow people with iphones and ipads to play to stream games of the x. Cloud and of course people general that have a laptop heavy Chromebook have a would have any sort of windows. Device will be able to stream xbox games to it as long as they have a subscription got in so give me a brief state of the game streaming world. You mentioned amazon. Luna is obviously google stadia. What's what's been going on with the various cloud gaming services out there so let's with the big ones stadia stadium is going through a bit of a bit of a tough time. At the beginning of the month dugal said that they are shutting down their in house developers. So right now. Google is not making any games for stadia. They did say though last week that they are going to have a hundred four games. Come out for stadia. Twenty twenty one in general though it still hasn't caught on So there's not a lot of excitement for it as much as it was with. Google first announced it that people have tried and it's just not capturing every everyone then like i mentioned amazon luna. That's right now. And the early access phase people could sign up board. And they maybe picked to try it out if echoed x. Claude is the net flicks for video games. Amazon is appropriately. The amazon prime video of video games in that. There is the for the monthly subscription. Seven dollars you will get access to a certain number of games. Then if you want you can pay a couple bucks more and you'll get another you'll get you'll get access to another catalog like. Ub sauce games. So that's how they're gonna do it to where everybody's going to be able to sort of pick choose what they want. But they're sort of base line of games that are going to be available for the monthly fee de force that is for. Pc gamers wanna take their pc games and play it on a their their phone tablets or black or laptop if they don't have a gaming laptop that had a stumble row stumble last year when it launch because they invidia put out all these games available for streaming. But they didn't tell the publishers so the allergies publishers kept just pull their games from the g force now So it took a while for them to serve sort everything out now the services going smoothly It's actually free but you only get to play an hour for free but If you pay if you pay or you'll get a better access better better fidelity as well as well unlimited time. So that's also available of o'clock eighty. What about sony nintendo some of the other big players in the gaming world. Well sony was the first one to do cloud gaming. What their playstation now That launch back with the playstation four and not early on in the playstation. Four lifetime and sony just has not put any effort into it They release a few games for for its They'll they keep it. Keep it moving. But there's maybe a million or two subscribers which is hardly anything in comparison acts cloud It's just not not their priority at all I don't know if it will be. They'll if sony will change your mind in the future but as of right apple station is just stare sermon. Afterthought as for nintendo. They don't have a netflix type. Service yet The maybe that's the planning they do have a cloud streaming though For hey different reasons. So games like control. That is a very intense graphic game. It is just very beautiful looking and wouldn't it wouldn't attend all has done is dave. Dave reached out to a they partner up with a few publishers and developers and they are allowing these games to stream to the switch. So you still get all the scrape the -delity like you would on an xbox or playstation But you have it on your switch and that prevents the developers from having to create a very a very cut down low graphics low fidelity version of the game that we've seen with some other titles duke maternal win borderlands where they just have to cut out so much where it's doesn't look as great in it's on his memorable so that available but again that is for very different reason than say x. Cloud stadium got and we just went through or still going through the launch of new hardware right with the xbox series acts the ps five taco middleware streaming fits into the future of gaming well in the case of marcus off especially they want you to be connected all the time they want you to when you're at home they want you on your xbox. They wanted they play games. But they want you to look in netflix. Or whatever when you're on the goal they want you to be on the app so you could play games while your way And you're you know if you're at work the what you pull up your browser sake play while you're not working but So that's who marks off once they want you connected all the time and they have like they have the best option for that It gives everybody else. They're trying to find they're trying to get a piece of this because they know that there's a lot of people that wanna play games that maybe do not wanna spend for five hundred dollars on the latest new york so they're trying to find a way to get in there And it's they're. They're all taking their stamps at offering their takes on what the cloud services going to be. So are we ever going to get to a point where we can drop the hardware and the console entirely like you said there are folks out there who may not wanna drop five hundred dollars on a new system bogut appoint were that just completely. Needless completely out of the equation. Everybody's expecting this generation to kind of be the The real he wanted to determine whether we go with or without consoles. It's i still think we're going to need hardware. Future especially the way hardware is being developed with nvidia An md they're still producing this great hardware that that is really going to produce these even more beautiful games a blitz. Cathie Wood Making Stock Picking Popular
"So tracy here's something that i never thought i would see again so i i started following markets in the late nineties The dot com era and something that i never thought i would see again in my career after that ended was the superstar fund manager. Okay why is that. Well the actually totally true. What i mean is more the superstar stock picker because of course back. In the old days there are a lot of like star stock stock pickers fund managers. You know Peter lynch comes to mind some of the other tech investors back then but these days with et fs with online brokerages that make it really easy for individuals to buy stocks on their own. It really sort of seemed to me like that era had gone bright so i suppose there was this idea that the time of stock picking has come and gone and that if you want to make returns in the market you should just poor all your money into something like an s. and p. five hundred. Etf like a vs tax or something like that and just stick with it and don't bother trying to outperform the market because over a longer period of time. Even the best stock pickers had eventually underperformed. Right i think this mantra of don't try to pick stocks. A if you try to pick stocks. You're probably going to underperform the index and be if you come across a mutual fund or a fund manager. Who's good at picking stocks. Oh it's probably just luck it's not going to last too. You know even if even if there is someone who can beat the market. How are you going to know whether it's actually worth putting your money with them until like this idea that everyone should just index Trying to beat the market is kind of a lose lose proposition. It's really been drilled into people's heads. And i think like you know for years. They're really we just haven't had a sort of another new peter lynch or buffet. There's star quantum maybe some bond fund managers who are known but the idea of like someone who is just really associated with a great track record of picking individual stocks. Hasn't been a thing for a while and yet and yet a star stock picker emerges over the horizon. Yeah executive obviously that really That for the first time in a long time there is currently a fund manager a stock picker who is a mess and incredible track record an incredible following. And of course. We're talking about kathy. Would she is the ceo and chief. Investment officer of arc invest and there is a total fascination with our and this family of actively traded. I mean i'm looking at their performance. They have five different semantic portfolios alone. Ch- that have basically doubled over the past year. Which is pretty amazing if you think about it. It's amazing enough for just one stock to double in price like that in just the space of twelve months but to do it across multiple is really remarkable and i think within their actual portfolio. There's a tiny tiny number of stocks that haven't risen recently. And i'm not even sure there are any actually. It's a really amazing. Performance is really sure to actually. I'm looking at the end of twenty twenty for twenty twenty their performance of a r k. Which is the sort of flagship innovation. Etf that arc has was up one hundred fifty two percent for the year Extraordinary returns and if you look at the holdings they're just all of the companies that have absolutely killed it in the real environment. Tesla is the biggest one but other names square. The payments company phenomenal roku huge winner. Zillow spotify tele doc. Which of course had an incredible year. Thanks to the rise of rome medicine and so forth so it is a Just extraordinary number of winners that this There's a fund and the related funds. Love in Lockup
"Love is likely the last word on anyone's mind when they envision prison but for many inmates. It's their first and last thought each day a supportive network of friends and family can help prisoners endure the harsh loneliness on the inside without it. The solitude and emotional stress of prison is only destructive. it isn't just a spiritual aig. Loneliness among inmates has real consequences for prisoners and for society at large. Before i continue please note. I am not a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist but i have done a lot of research for the show. Clinical psychologist army roku pointed out that loneliness increases both criminality and recidivism or the likelihood that an individual will become a repeat offender. If the aim of jail time is to rehabilitate inmates. It's clear that the emotional impact of such confinement can work against that goal. Julian wendy berto an activist for prison reform and a former inmate herself said of her experience at the beginning. You start making friendships. And then they leave and then you start building up new friendships. And then they leave. It's hard to relate to people when everybody's feeling the same loneliness or emptiness or fear in such a crushing environment. It's no wonder that many inmates are desperate to connect with those on the outside a simple reminder that the outside world hasn't completely forgotten about them goes a long way toward bolstering their morale pen pal organizations are the most common ways in meets connect to the outside world. Participants in a program called prisoners. Pen friends reported that the letters made them feel happier less lonely and more hopeful about their futures though many of these pen pal organizations strive to create only casual friendships. Sometimes the letters lead to more intimate connections. The hope for romance is what attracts many inmates to the programs. And it's only natural for prisoners to dream of finding a partner willing to wait for them on the other side
How to get the most out of your Apple Watch
"Hey there listeners. Mike schneider and i'm brett molina and welcome back to talking tech so bread. I'm driving and apple. Watch for some upcoming coverage we've got coming and i found a very helpful story right here on tech that usa today dot com it trittin buyer pal and colleague mark saltzman about some cool tips and tricks with the apple watch. Yeah it's definitely a good story for myself personally. It's very timely. Because a couple of months ago. I bought an apple watch myself. I had held out from buying one for the longest time and then decided with the price going down and they also introduced the model which ended up picking up. It hit that sweet spot of a good price and a lot of really good features. So i figured alright. I'm diving in so i've dive in. I'm still learning about it. And i've learned quite a bit from marks column one of the recommendations that i've added into my bag of tricks is the ability to adjust the onscreen tech size. Which as you get older a very convenient thing to have so the way you do it is when you're on the apple. Watch home screen. You go to settings and then you scroll down to where it says display in brightness once you get there has an for tech size then what you do is just tap the larger or smaller icon until you get a font size that you like so obviously can use it to decrease it increase the brightness of of the screen as well. Yeah i was test driving to before we started recording i increase. The text is a bit and you can also bold it and that really helped me the other ways. It's helped me is just just like your case. It's a good read for someone who maybe just got an apple watch as a holiday gift. It helps you. Learn the parts of the watch. What they're called. I would not have thought the button on the side is called digital crown. So that helped me because when you're getting advice and suggestions and control things to do with the watch you gotta know what that is or you're to be lost right away one tip. I bet i'll use a lot as a functions to help you find your iphone. You can use your watch. It'll ping your phone so kind like some of those remote controls have with. I think roku has a remote control thing that that you can ping it got your watch. You can't find your phone so you swipe up from the bottom of your main clock to open control center and here you'll see a ping icon. Which looks like an iphone ringing. Just tap this and it prompts. Sure i phoned emitted noise and then you make like tracker and find it s someone who also loses phone a lot. That's actually a nice to have to try that out too. So he also points out to other quick ways that you mute the apple watch which will definitely be handy if you're in a in a zoo meeting or you're doing something where you need to kind of keep the apple watch quiet Basically what you can do is swipe up from the bottom. Just like you do on an iphone to open up the control center where you have different functions that you can get to really quickly like a calculator things like that in this case if you open up the control center on the apple watch you'll tap an icon. That looks like a bell. And when you tap that you'll see it turn red with a slash across the middle. That means that it's now in silent mode so you'll still receive haptic notifications like the vibrations. That will you'll feel on your wrist as opposed to beeps that. Come off the watch but it's just a way to kind of silence the phone if you need to. There's also this really cool covered. Immune option where you basically just hold your hand over the watch face for a few
Tips on buying a TV for the Super Bowl
"This is the best time of the year for me. Because it's almost time for the super bowl and my team the kansas city chiefs trying to go back to back and defeat. Tom brady and the tampa bay buccaneers to get their second straight super bowl title as washington. Football team fan. I am in misery right now because we haven't been to a super bowl since i don't know forever but anyway it's also a great time of year to shop for tv. Traditionally the days leading up to the super bowl come just behind black friday and holiday sales of the most tv purchases across the us. That's right it's. It's a good time to upgrade your tv or display and for some more insights. Were lucky enough to have our colleague ryan. Who is the managing editor for electronics. Reviewed. hey ryan thanks for being with us. Thought you might have some advice to share with shoppers. Who might be thinking about getting a new. Tv with the big game coming up this weekend. Hey guys So fun to be here. I am very upset because you're a cheese fan. And i'm a broncos fan and I am now looking down. The spiral of losses for maybe. I don't know the rest of our football lives. Because patrick mahomes is probably gonna pay for twenty years. But that's not what we're here to talk about. I suppose we should talk about it if we might even lose breath you daren't chiefs fans anyway. It is a great time to buy a tv. There are few great times in the year. But why this is such a great time to buy a tv is because there are really good deals as these new. Tv's are coming out. They are trying to get these quote unquote old. Tv's off of shelves or out of their internet stockpiles so they are wheeling and dealing. Somebody's tv's and another good thing about why now is a great time. Particularly after twenty twenty is a lot of the. Tv's in two thousand twenty some of those new features that people look for future-proof tv like two point one hdmi of variable refresh rates for gaming. So you're actually getting a lot of the complete package in a tv. That is you know has an older year date but that really doesn't matter. It's like buying a car at the end of the year. Or you know in january if you can get on the shelves. You're going to get a really good deal on it so one of the biggest questions. It always comes up when you're buying a tv is how big do you go. What advice do you give consumers who are trying to figure out the right size. Tv to buy all the advice. I usually give consumers is if you think it's probably a little too big then you are probably right on the money because i have never talked to somebody who bought you know a fifty five or sixty five inch tv And then we're really upset. About how big. The picture looks and especially now when you can't go to a movie theater. People are loving these bigger screens now. Of course there's an aesthetic. You know thing to balance here whether or not. It's just gonna look too darn big for your living room but other than that again. You're not gonna be upset by having a bigger brighter picture. That's a that's a good answer. That's what i always tell my friends and my wife. Also if you're going to buy a tv don't short out. Can i mean if you can afford. It gets to the point. How much should people spend. I've done a little research on this. And the average person spends under four hundred dollars on the tv. I would like to spend a little bit more when i buy my next one. What would you recommend people. The average person spend ryan. Well you know it really does depend on what you're looking for but again if you're looking for that big punch you don't have to spend a crazy amount of because there are so many new technologies and some really up and coming companies. A lot of people have probably heard about. Tcl's six series tv by now. If you're shopping at all it is sort of the quintessential roku tv that people love to get it. Packs a bunch of performance punch into a very nice price point however if you are looking to get something even bigger and you look into say around that lower price point around four hundred but you know maybe you can go a little bit higher you can get. Tcl's four series which is not quite as good performance wise but it is going to opera four k. It is going to offer hdr which is going to give you that brightness and a wider color gamut and it's going to pop a little bit more and you can get a seventy five inch model of that right now For instance on best buy for six hundred and thirty bucks. Six hundred thirty dollars i mean. Can you imagine we've been around a while. You imagine getting tv that size for like anything less than three grand even five years ago. I'm not. I'm not gonna do the math exactly but it's it's pretty wild. How low it's gotten. It really is incredible And you mentioned best buy. There's an unfortunately in the world. Tv buying we've lost a lot of local tv shops or audio video shops So a lot of people do their buying online. But as we're getting close to the game it seems like you may want to think about going local at this point right. Well you could. I you know i think that is a great point. It'd probably depends on how close you are to a prime shipper if you're going to do it from amazon but one thing to do and i did this recently with a different product purchase. Is you can shop on best buy and then order it to pick up in store. They'll usually do curbside avoids the pandemic issue they can. They will bring it right out to your car and slap it in the back and then you're good to go so i think that's if you're looking to stop right now right before the game. That's probably your best way to go ryan. Thanks again for being with us and for the listeners. Out there working. They find out more info on buying a tv for the super bowl. Yeah we've got Reviews on many of these. Tv's on review dot com. You can also check out our best of tv list and sliver other best of that have Show all the great deals and compare all these. You can kind of you know you. You do your shopping right from home and then hopefully get it right before the

"Last year qube became infamous as a well funded but short lived streaming service. It raised one point. Seven five billion dollars from high profile backers ben shutdown just six months after it launched now people familiar with the matter say the company is in advanced talks to sell its content catalog to roku the leading distributor of streaming services. Here to explain what's going on and how this news fits into a broader story about the streaming industry is our media reporter benjamin mullen. Hey ben thanks for joining me. Hey thanks for having me okay. So we should note that these talks are still going on and they could still fall apart. But i want to start by just understanding why a partnership could be strategic for both sides here. So let's start quickly. It's obviously now so what's in this. It makes sense for you to do this. Because the licenses to the content that was on their service is one of the most valuable things they still have. They have cash on hand that they're planning to pay back to their investors. And i guess the reason why they're doing this is because it's what they still have so it's one of the most valuable remaining assets and how is going to be handling. Its content more broadly. Now that it's shuttered. The company really put a lot of resources into its content big names. They recruited a lot of talent and the trip. Some really out of the box content ideas i imagine. They don't want all that to go to waste. So does that factor into these talks. Yeah they're still trying to figure it out. That's what these talks are about is all the producers who developed programming for qube they want their shows to be viewed by people because they put all this effort into him and qube wants to make money as much as they can from the library that they have and so buyers potentially want to exhibit these shows sell advertising sell subscriptions around them. So you can. You can see why it would make sense for all parties to get. Get to a deal here. Yeah and let's talk more about roku point of view. Why would this be strategic for them. Specifically roku has its own channel called appropriately the roku channel and they sell advertising on this channel and the advertising that they sell on the roku channel. The terms for the advertising deals are really really favorable to them so if they have more original content that they can put in the roku channel. They have a better case to make to advertisers and potentially more advertising revenue and of course their main role right now is as a distributor. That's the position they've been leveraging as they make deals with content producers as we've talked about on the show recently could up partnership with qube help roku convinced more streaming companies to make content available with roku. Well you could envision a situation where they tell. at which owns hbo. You should put your content on the roku channel because look at all this content. we have on their. We have exclusive content so this channels are really valuable. Place for you to be and you'll be alongside some other really good shows and one thing i have questions about. Quip was made specifically for mobile and it really prided itself on its so-called turnstile technology that changes the formatting of the shows depending on which way you're holding your phone but roku is primarily used on actual. So how would that partnership even work. That's a good question. I imagined that a lot of the content that'll be showed on the roku channel or roku if this deal would go through would be in the horizontal aspect ratio. Because most people's tv's are obviously oriented horizontally the vertical component of the shows. I'm not sure how that fits into a traditional roku. Apper your roku viewing device. Got it so questions yet to be answered here and just zooming out. What are these deal. Talks tell us about entertainment. And the strategy behind how content producers and content distributors are trying to navigate the fast changing world. I think what qualities demise showed. Everyone is that it's really a competitive place. There's a lot of streaming services that have launched even the last half year so and qube was obviously unsuccessful in navigating the competition so and roku has built success largely on the back of the growth of streaming because there are huge distributor so roku was accompanying that manage to really seize on the success of streaming and is captured an ever-growing part of that pie and qube. I think you can safely categorize them as a half of the streaming wars. You know they haven't been able to capitalize in the same way that roku has and in this case roku so it like the winners of the streaming moore's may end up absorbing the losers. Yeah yeah in this case. That definitely seems to be what happened all right. That's a reporter. Benjamin mullen ben. Thanks so much for joining me thanks. Amanda

"About this Roku deal then the next day Oh that they're done and Texas you and you're like Oh. Yeah. This'll happen within twenty four hours. So it's a pretty crazy situation given in contrast like Hbo Max in in in their disagreement with Roku Amazon fire basically last Thursday late in the day, there was an us. There was a rumor floating around that NBC Universal was going to be was going to be pulling all of their APPs there. TV anywhere APPs from Roku, unless Roku let peacock onto the service for those of you. Who are wondering? What what, what does NBC universal have will have a lot I mean they have not only their news channels, sports channels, they also have NBC proper. They have Bravo, they have e they have a lot of individual APPs because they own a lot of different channels have USA. They have Sifi all these channels that are on cable and broadcast have individual APPs that you have access to of your cable provider that you can access. If you have Roku, it makes up a pretty good chunk of of channels I mean there's A, good collection of them that being said, it was it was kind of like hot. Well, that's one way to get. Roku. To kind of like move towards getting peacock on. That was the first headline then I think it was Friday morning. There was word that came out that said that there was a deal in place for peacock two-lane on the service, but it completely fell through and now all the any anywhere APPs from NBC universal coming off the service within the next two weeks, which was a surprise because you would think that. There'd be deals in place where they can't just take them off but you know because everybody always talks about like, oh, well, prime video signed a new deal with CBS all access to keep the service on for multiple years. You know it doesn't just come up incidentally that all of them are up at the same exact time because CBS Alexis is its own thing while paramount Viacom said, yes, it is has a lot of different. Also, they have their own CBS anywhere app they have other channels like the paramount network they have MTV. Nickelodeon they have other channels that exist within you know broadcast and cable that have their own anywhere to you don't hear about them being linked at the same time. So then by Friday Friday ad evening, it was announced stats that there was a deal in place but nobody had officially said anything I believe it was like Saturday morning I woke up and I saw on twitter there was a there was a comment from peacock stating that they were so happy that's Roku was joining the fly playing off of their their bird analogies they've used so many times. During the marketing of peacock but they said that and then broke who official comment that said that within the coming within the next couple weeks Roku we're going to be adding peacock to the service, and then what was even crazier was by Monday peacock was already on Roku was already available has we're talking now peacock is available on Roku devices all over the place. So within a matter of days this all took place and seemingly it seems as if the defining was NBC universal, potentially pulling their other serve their other streaming APPs from Roku and that being A. Also, there's word on the street that's their specific NBC universal content that will be licensed so that Roku can use on their individual roku channel, which is not a surprise because that's also what we've heard about Disney plus with Amazon and how I am dbt got certain shows that were part of ABC studios within the corporate umbrella of Disney that ended up at ATV that are licensed by Amazon, that could have potentially grease the wheels for. The deal that potentially needed to happen Disney plus Amazon because. Amazon Disney plus warrant there at the very from the very beginning either with deal, and then suddenly that was something that happened. So let's talk about that first, and then we'll talk about the ramifications for the future of what this means for Hbo Max. This whole situation was pretty crazy I it's so hard to compare different contract negotiations because each side has different, you know in goals. Each each deal is different but there is a lot of correlation there between you know an ad sport business and whatnot between each comebacks in the embassy peacock parts of the platform think having an an apple ready on the platform and probably had a decent amount of of of traffic on through it probably grease the wheels bit because there's something Roku doesn't want the bad press of like Oh. Yeah. Hey, this you know this. Streaming, partner is now non or platform anymore and do the country negotiation like that in a PR setting will look like inches crocus falter ready for them not coming together sooner versus like h Max. issue, Max was never on platform to begin with and you know there's there's that distinction of life or not me to for them to be on here until the deal is ready versus like you know renegotiation where Roku mind just seemed there being. Money hungry or some other type of energy described him for not re re upping the deal I think being on there before definitely helped advantage in think that you know peacock has come out and I think that they want their ads to be of at most five minutes I think coming out with some specifications of how they're doing ads before he really pushed into a corner of like, okay. We'll give him the set of constraints like there's no roof negotiation like they already promise customers and the customers are paying or will be paying or we'll be watching and really kind of stuck in a boat like, Hey, this is the best to do. There's no better negotiations..

". So going into last week, , what was the status quo of the standoff between Hbo Max Peacock on the Streamer side and then Roku and fire TV on the devices I'd. . So it was a rollback to May, , which was when if you're Max launched was surprise honestly all of us that HP the Roku Fire TV, , we're not going to have the HBO AD and. . That's still the case today <hes>. . You know it's been said launch. . Max's not been on either of those two devices against super popular like you said, , Roku TV, , they're really the least expensive streamers out there and you could you know so many people have them on TV's on on the street devices themselves. . So and then peacock which debuted nationwide in July also didn't have HBO Max <hes> and didn't have. . Sorry. . Didn't have a Roku or fire TV. . So again both those major services both <hes> you know had a lot of hype leading up to them in both kind of like. . You know they're not on these super popular devices. . So last Friday <hes> that changed and Roku peacocks deal. So . finally, , Roku owners can watch peacock <hes> just like everybody else right. . So what are the I'm sure that you it's been similar for you like me I've even people that work at c net with us have message to me occasionally and been like w why can't I watch the streaming service? ? On my Roku or on fire, , you have you been getting a lot of reader reaction to the fact that. . We had readers were really like I think a lot of years that are in the know are Kinda like <unk> at this point like they're they're they're they. . They know that it's an issue in the they do complain about especially when they hear about new stuff on on either service potentially but we had a discussion internally about the editor's choice award, , which is something that we give to products. . We really like currently our editor's choice product is a roku streaming stare. . and. We're . like is worth polling this this this award, , you know give them a little bit of time still especially going into the fall season, , but you know it's a big issue offer us evaluating these products so yet again it was it was a surprise. . People are still kind of mystify that these massive services from the media companies they can't agree to deal to just get the basic APP on their devices. . So also, , can you talk a little bit about? ? What are people missing out on Hbo Max Peacock in addition to being new services especially with Max been a little confusing for people to understand any way. . It doesn't help if you can't watch these services on like the most popular things that people watch the but give people sense. You . know what are they missing out on if they are Roku or fire TV users, , what are they missing by not having a up until last week not having access to both HBO Maxine PGA While I. . Think Big Picture. . You're missing more <hes> on peacock the Max at least in the beginning because. . If. You're . a Roku or a fire TV user. . You can get the regular HBO APP still. . So you can watch <hes> you know all the shows that are on HBO succession, , which just one. . In the EMMYS did really well, , all those hbo things there on both Max and regular HBO. . The things that you're missing on MACs are primarily friends <hes>, , which obviously is is the big marquee feature there and those Hbo, , Max. . Originals. . So that's on there. . If you're if you're Roku or five TV subscriber, , you can't watch those my kids really like the elmo show on for example. . Like he gets up at elmo goes and does a late night show. . It's called the not. . So late show with ELMO and <hes>. . You know we watch that on our apple TV you know the one time we don't use Roku our house right off because you can't you can't watch it on the Roku. . With peacock I think their catalog is a is a little bit less compelling overall <hes>. . You know it's a less expensive service. . It's free. . But. . Again, , you're missing a lot of their back catalogue ABC has or NBC. Sorry . <unk> NBC shows. . <hes> law and order Svu as well as a parks and recreation thirty rock big names like that. . You can stream on peacock and you can't get those on other services however <hes>, , for example, , those are both of those <hes> comedies thirty rock in. . Parts of the wreck are on Hulu. . Hulu Subscriber, , obviously, , you got Hulu APP on your fire TV or Roku. . So you're not missing quite as much I think <hes> if you're a again a Roku Amazon Rtd user with peacock. . So you know it's it's it's it's very complicated, , and then these services have different tiers right so at the end of the day, , it's it's hard to Parse it all and you can get a Lotta these shows on different services. If . you look around

"Graham here with a question when the last time you bought yourself a new. Year after year. You know I've been amazed at the falling prices of sets that would garner seven hundred dollars two thousand dollars just a few years ago, and I just picked up a new forty three inch, T. C. L. set with roku built in for two hundred and twenty nine dollars. Two hundred and twenty nine dollars for a display that offers four K. HD, resolution and HDR. But forget about the acronyms I'm just amazed at what you can get now for two hundred bucks. I bought the TV for a non traditional reason to use it as a giant computer monitor to watch videos that I have edited on my laptop on my little sixteen inch laptop. So I paid fifteen dollars for a ten foot HD my cord. That's the Court of course that connects the TV to other devices and I connected it to my apple macbook pro. It went directly to the TV. I didn't have to spring for an additional twenty five to fifty dollars for a separate. Roku streaming player right so I saved money. The footage looks so great at forty three inches I had to wonder why anybody would go out and spend big bucks on a computer monitor a quick look on Amazon in a forty three inch LG monitor is upwards of six hundred bucks wow. So the other thing once I sit up the TV. I never had to plug in antenna cable box or anything defined oodles of programming. All I needed was a WIFI signal. roku screen name and Password and suddenly I had five hundred APPs available on the platform. A lot of them wanted money from me, but there was many that didn't there was so much free stuff I couldn't believe it. I mean I come from a generation that's used to connecting things to the TV whether that be streaming box whether that be an antenna whether that be a cable box. I mean this is amazing. I can act the nothing. <hes> so the APPS. There's the usual Pandora Hulu Amazon Prime Video Netflix's s on and on two big ones missing Hbo Max in NBC's Peacock. Financial negotiations, and then there's the roku channel which is a homegrown collection that supported movies and TV shows mostly on the older side. Batman bewitched movies like the perfect storm, dogs and cats. Crimson tide. And live news channels and these are really good from ABC. NBC and CBS. Accord cutters dream no cable needed. All you need is Wifi and you get more stuff than you'd ever Wanna see without connecting anything. So how cool is that? The picture quality I would rate as a ten for a two hundred dollar TV or five on the overall scale. If you're comparing it to the best of breed leads a fifty inch led from Samsung cost eight hundred dollars for the TCL set. You'll have to sit right in front of it. Turn the lights on low and not be on the sides and that way the pitcher will look its best for a savings of six hundred dollars I can do that.

"Like okay, if you're if you're planning that, Kobe nineteen is what the cause everything and okay, like our new are Beta that was our Beta launch. Now we're revamping like. Does he not know? Know that there is a potential resurgence and nineteen cases. Is He not realized that? We're still dealing with the pandemic in that? Things are not going to be normal for a while. Does he not realize that sports as we know them or not? Happening that the NBA is still is basically stuck to his stay in a in Disneyworld, basically in confinement for their mini season, he not know that the world is not going back to normal, and so by the arguments like okay well, you know things are going back. Back normal. That's not true. It's just just isn't and there's something more fundamental than just a pandemic. You know like tiktok still booming plank. They're doing great. You know snapchat still strong instagram's look at content youtube still going like there's something fundamentally more than your hinted than than just being the covenant everyone with Covid nineteen everyone like I understand maybe at the beginning of your launch that there was some issues there, but even Hbo Max. They've had some issues, but they've actually turned out pretty decent for a launch. At. Some point, the buck stops with you and you gotta own it, and he is not owning it. Let's just concerning because it's like okay. You can't keep passing the buck and you can also understand your circumstances of like. Is this something that's going to happen the collectively? The United States is going to deal with for a for a while. It just doesn't seem like. Like it's clicking for Mrs. Just like okay, we'll Cova nineteen happened in March and we're you know we're finally getting out of that. It's like dude. That's not happening. That's concerning that you know somebody who stuck in their ways so stuck in this one motive operation in not being able to to pivot, and that's concerning as as if I was an investor of viewing the. That's concerning I want somebody who yes. The steadfast push forward that go through hard times, but also needs to be adoptable and realize okay like we also need to pivot and I appreciate. His stiff steadfastness in is unwavering belief inquiries current direction by at some point you need to sit back and really evaluate in pivot, and even on his Co. chrome cast stuff airplane like he he wasn't wanting to do. That wasn't willing to accept to change, and that's sad, because I feel like it was just necessary need to just. I'm losing faith in him. That's all it's sad because I thought they really have potential. And then jumping over each max, each bill Max Has Greenland, assume adult animated series called Tenure Tom. They also have landed psychological role the ancestor. Who is the creator of love is blind over it Netflix's has inked overall deal with hp Max, and then some Hayek is actually into first look deal with Hbo Max as well and then last, but not least scoop, which was originally meant to be a theatrical release. They moved to a PD od release instead and when that came out. Had you know it had some success? We don't know how successful because it hasn't come up in any conversations with any executives. Executives, but it was successful enough. They announced the physical release, which is some time in I believe the middle of July end of July and then just this past week. They actually announced that scoop is actually going to be heading to Hbo Max a month prior to the physical release. Now what this basically says is, they acknowledged that anybody who going to buy the film digitally probably already bought it, but there's still people who could potentially be interested in the film. Film prior to the film releasing on disk so this way he put on Hbo, Max, and if gives them another piece of content out there that people would potentially seek out specifically to watch now. Put this in comparison is very similar to what Disney did with onward, except onward was originally in theaters, had a small theatrical run before the shutdown happened, and then after that they put it on Disney plus within a month. I think it was less than a month. Month from the time and actually released in theaters, so it was very very quick. It's not the same thing as frozen or stars rise of Skywalker, because both of those projects were just released a little bit earlier than they originally had planned releasing on the service, but the best comparison is onward, and anward did probably on. We're could have potentially scoop could have done potentially as well as onward if it was in theaters, because onward didn't blow box office records or Or anything like that, but it did well. Screw could have done well as well and so it's very comparable in the situation, but it does show. That's warner brothers. If if this does anything, it just shows that they're not against the idea of putting content on the service very very quickly. Not Typically you'd have a physical disk and up on HBO like within three three months after the physical release. Then after that. Then when it's on HBO, it would be available. Available obviously on Hbo Max's well, that obviously could change because this shows that there's a potential that they could still find before it even heads to fiscal release, which pushes that idea that streaming is the future, but also tries to get people to check out the service specifically for these individual projects. Yeah, I'm actually pretty happy about this and I don't see why. Some parties are upset that they're moving some content just going straight to the streaming service in having an. An exclusive. They're a little bit before he goes to DVD and stuff like that I understand why people have that complaint but real happy about this. You said that you've seen this in just really quick digression. How was it? How'd you like it? It was a good film, so I think they did a great job. Just the given the circumstances we can see that outside of like really really high profile. Animated films are going to draw a huge huge crowd. They're. They're just not going to be successful and theat in the theaters going in the immediate future, just because people are hesitant about going to the theaters, we know that the theaters are going to start to reopen in July for a lot of the different companies and things like that, but the real question is how many people are actually GonNa be going to the theaters. How many people are actually going to be okay with seeing the film I personally want to see. Certain films that are coming soon I don't necessarily have a huge problem, but then again I don't know how each year is going to address these social distancing rules and things like that, so I acknowledged that this film could have been really well and set. You know could have been a huge thing for one brothers as far as sending up additional movies in the future. I think that. That this is a good route to go because there's nothing to say that. If they keep the budget within a reasonable amount, they couldn't do these movies on Hbo Max's exclusives, either so we'll just leave it at that. I'll say it was a good movie and I would strongly suggest checking out even if you're not a hardcore hanna-barbera fan all right so with that being, said we. We don't have any other news news Sweden have one little topic to discuss. It's not really a little topic, and this could go a lot of different directions, but specifically there's an article the pop up on core cutter news talking about how Google could be interested in buying Roku, all this is not necessarily new news. This is not necessarily anything nothing. That immediately happened over the past week. Week has prompted this. This could have just been an article that they were re bringing up to just rediscuss this exact same topic. I thought it was an interesting topic. Because of some things that have been happening recently, so recently Google has there's been some plans for a new chrome cast device that have leaked that allow a device to be plugged into the actual television. Have A. A remote have Google assistant on the remote and actually allow you to use an interface rather than just being able to cast things to the television. When Google had android TV initially did not do great, they decided to go the route of using phones as an actual controller rather than including a controller. Obviously, we've seen how that has worked. While people still chrome cast things, it's not A. A question of whether you can or can't. Most APPs allow you to chrome cast origins in.

"Was that the services great? It's well worth to fifteen dollars the issue. Issue, is that a just immoral originals which we know is coming, and you can't really blame them for it. Because of the current situation with the pandemic, but overall. It seemed like it was a very positive situation. They said they liked it. They appreciated that there was a wide range of content one of the really interesting things to come out of it. Which I think I mentioned last week. Week was one of the most popular series. The the of the originals was actually the looney tunes shorts were very very popular across multiple demographics, not just kids, and then the Elmo show was actually very highly ranked up there, too, at number two, and then that one was kind of going back and forth with love life, which is obviously not meant for kids, all which means love life is. Is Very popular amongst adults because the kids are going to be watching the other content, but when it comes to like the branching between looney tunes, shorts makes perfect sense to be more popular than a show specifically geared towards kids or show that specifically geared towards adults because it crosses into both of those demographics. So that was great. I I I've watched looney tunes shorts. They're great. They're basically. Basically taking the looney tunes back to the classic versions that we all grew up with and all no, no matter how old we are, because they all they've. They've always existed now. The counter to this entire argument is the investment analysts their review of it, and basically the consensus seemingly amongst all of the analysts. Is that it? It's not going great. It's failed, or it will fail because of. Of current situations or they say well, it's maybe not going to fail, but it all depends on whether or not they land Roku, Amazon, and now we just talked about the real quick Amazon so negative re bring that up, but I will say as far as the analysts go. I agree with them in the sense of it does not look great on paper for the launch one of the. The things I think a lot of analysts. They put a lot of stockings. Obviously numbers, which makes sense you look at Sensor Tower, the the APP downloads and things like that and the APP. Downloads were extremely low four H. Max. However, one of the things that I failed to see mentioned it a lot of different articles of talking about how low the numbers were was actually the fact that. Now was immediately converted into Hbo Max for HBO. Now subscribers, so if you subscribe to HBO now you woke up to an update took place on HBO now. which now just re skinned it teach feel Max and added that additional content in that's what happens so like all of the existing HBO now customers which I believe. Don't quote me on this by believe. It's about fifteen million customers. They're using HBO now. They immediately woke up and had the new version of HBO MAC. So it's not like that's changing because they're already paying the same amount of money and there's no. No reason not to just immediately convert them over obviously down the line. They WANNA. Get everybody who's on HBO now. To be on HBO MAC, so why not just re skin each now and move it over to Hbo Mex- that Makes Sense. The other problem is the numbers going back to the numbers of downloads had eighty thousand. Put it in comparison. Everybody of course was compared to Qube while when qube launched, Qube had three, hundred thousand, or they had a million within a week, and those are huge numbers when you compare it to Hbo Max Yes. It's obviously true. True, but the other thing is those numbers. Don't include numbers related to people viewing them on devices, not phones or APP.

"None of those are as easy to use or as well. Thought out as Roku, and as you're looking at TV's look for the Roku built in. Because if you ready to dump your cable or satellite subscription and go to war cost television. You're going to find that the transition is the smoothest and easiest if you go to Roku versus any of the other platforms that are available now at some point people will come up with other great platform, a lot of people like the Amazon fire stick for TV, the Amazon fire system built into a TV, and it is a very workable system. But again, my preference is for the Roku you'll have to make your own decision. The changes coming this year. With streaming products is Disney having specialized programming. Available to you. If you're really into the Disney stuff and ESPN finally making a clean break with the cable and satellite providers and offering standalone ESPN, if you choose not to be with satellite or cable, so satellite and cable, you're going to find or going to push their prices up heavily on people who remain incumbents doing business watching TV the old way with cable or satellite. So you should really think about the turn. It is available to.

"Buy a new one if you need to the one in the TV is pretty it's there, and that's it. So I prefer the external for that reason. But sometimes that might mean using rebuts one for the TV one for the Roku box, but most of us now have universal remotes. It means you'd have to program the universal remote to operate the Roku box as well as TV and the audio system and everything else, which is what I do. But it is another step of complexity, but we're all geeks on this bus. Are we not I know I am. So let's see oh, my Kayce on the chat room. He's reviewing a t. L TV with Roku and Roku wireless speakers. Which he says are interesting and twisted, Mr. said does that mean, not great? And he said, no, no, no it is there. It's interesting. It's an interesting technology. Basically have these two little speakers. So I'll translate what Scott is saying. Got lost. All right about right. We had everybody running in here. I was out getting a Cup of coffee all back. Okay. I okay. I will definitely I learned my lesson and reboot every time. Twisted mister had asked about you know, what I like Sonos better than my Conrad Johnson. Dinadi auto. System, which is like, holy man. That's that's just great. I mean, that's that's a serious system. You got there. What is it? Dino, Conrad Johnson, benchmark Conrad Johnson, preempt probably benchmark amplifier, shoe sub woofer. That's a true audio file system right there. And so no Sonos is not going to sound as good. But you know, you're not gonna be able to put that kind of system in every room stream two different rooms. And and have the whole house. Audio wireless audio that's Ono's provides. So they do two different things. I would..

And yeah, and it's not a coincidence when I walked into Cosco I knew I was going to buy anyway, but that's the first TV you see? Right, right. When you walk in the interest in this case was a big ole TCL TV with Roko yet we put a lot of us TCL with a lot of work in making that happen. Did you did you realize again, when you building this company years ago, you were one day going to have to go wrangle with Costco and WalMart, and I seem you're going to Bentonville and making trips like that explaining why they ought to put you stuff, put your stuff in prime slots like that. Oh, yeah. I mean, I've been selling, I mean, rookie who's been selling retail products from the beginning. And so getting distribution, you know, flying out to retailers than talking to buyers as standard operating procedure in our business. I think a lot of folks I talked to probably are not used as sort of how do I deal the retail channel and why do I have to deal with the retail channel? I cannot just sell stuff my on my on my own my website. It's the well. You know when we started selling rookies actually, we sold them online only the originally, sorry, the rookies deflects players are the rookie products were in retail. But we decided we'll start with Netflix online only and then flipped when we turn on retail a couple of years later, they had a dramatic. I mean, sales really picked up retails. You sell a lot of products in WalMart. Retails Portman, you're comfortable sort of going out and making the case, and there's people who really relished that sort of me personally. Yeah, personally, I don't do that. You get someone else. Okay, story. We have sales teams, you know, in nearly as of course I used to do it and and it wasn't the favorite part of my job, but I I know how to do it. So it was an important thing to do. But these days, you know, there's a thousand employees at Roku and we have experts call on this companies. I'm in, of course you know, big strategic relationships like with WalMart. I spend time on that. I meet with them in Bentonville. I know you were skeptical of podcasting when you walked in and said, this is a nice room for a podcast, but it isn't real business and we actually make money here through advertising..
