Turner will not be disciplined by MLB for return to field
"Major League Baseball has closed the book on Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner's controversial return to the field during the World Series victory celebration, even though he'd been removed from the game or did isolates when his Corona virus test came back positive, the commissioner says in a statement today. While Turner's not been exonerated, he won't face punishment. Rob Manfred says Turner's taken responsibility for leaving the clubhouse to celebrate with his teammates, many of whom had urged him to join him for the photos also says the league should have assigned a security guard to monitor him. The Dodgers portion of the joint statement appears to excuse Turner's conduct because of his achievements on the field his popularity. Turner himself did apologize in the statement for going back out onto the field.
Turner will not be disciplined by MLB for return to field
"Turner played a big role in helping the Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay rays you're on this road to win a World Series you know you gotta beat the best to be the best the third baseman was taken out in the seventh inning of game six after he was told he tested positive the Dodgers won they celebrated Turner went on the field took off his mask and posed for a photograph with teammates Major League Baseball says they aren't exonerating him but teammates actively encourage Turner to celebrate Dodgers employees also didn't stop him commissioner rob Manfred also said Turner apologized and accepted responsibility I'm a Donahue
Los Angeles Dodgers' Justin Turner pulled mid-game during World Series win after positive Covid-19 test
"Win three one, win the series and six, but being completely overshadowed one of the grandest franchises in sports winning the World Series Championship after three decade plus drought is being overshadowed by one player having to leave the game doing a positive corona virus tests and that is just turner but that is also so twenty twenty Jeff Passan is with us this morning Jeff have little more details on what went on that allowed Turner to be on the field for the post game celebration. Hasn't been nothing really allowed him to be on the field. He just chose to be field and nobody was going to drag off after he won the world series. He essentially said I'm going out there and nothing's GonNa stop me I want to pose with the trophy I wanna be with my teammates I want to choose celebrate like somebody WHO's won the world series for the first time and nothing was gonNA stop him and the fallout from that we're GONNA see over the next couple of days hopefully there. Are No other positive corona virus tests on the Los Angeles dodgers. But you know that all remains to be seen as does how they're going to get back to Los Angeles. When they're going to go back, there are a lot of questions still jeff. I don't put this on Justin Turner nor do I put this on the dodgers but how big of an indictment is this on the MLB? They're the ones that pulled him from the game in a there's the one that told him he needs to quarantine. When we see these Leagues Have Championship Games. There are people in the League office who were their security from league offices are there where where is the MLB and all this? Well I think the security tried to stop him from going on there but he you know this is a guy who's covert positive. So is security going to put their hands on him or are they GONNA to? Contract the virus themselves probably not, but they they didn't stop it from going out there and they did remove them and I. Think Rob Manfred got some questions answer about how that happened about what protocols were in place and why they weren't followed. Let me ask you this Jeff Obviously La in second biggest market for Major, League baseball outside of New York in the Yankees Major League Baseball don't want the headline story to be about covert the day after the second biggest market had just won the championship. Course not but I think regardless of weather. Justin Turner went onto the field or not it was going to be pretty interesting part of the story I. Think the fact that he did go back out there makes it a much bigger story now because there are questions, why did he go back out there? How did he go back out there? Who allowed him back out there? How did they not stop it? Jeff what are what are you hearing around the league this early morning about his teammates embracing the fact that he was able to join them for big celebration. GonNa go on up checks message here that I got from general manager. It's A super spreader event on live. TV. Welcome to twenty twenty. And I'M GONNA PULL UP A. Dm I got from an active player isn't here. Now it's nice, but essentially it's What the F. is going on. And that's kind of a thought around baseball and yet. You guys were players let let's put you in that same situation you gotten cut. Seven years ago, and this organization gave you a chance you blossom into an all-star to guy who gets MVP vote someone who's made fifty million dollars somebody who's a leader in the clubhouse and is seen as one of the voices and wants to celebrate this thing that he has worked so hard to celebrate. Would you have gone back out there As a teammate I'm okay with it I don't know if it was me dead had tested positive. I. Don't know because it would had to have happened in the moment and I would have probably responded reacted to my teammates, my coaches in people around me if they was embracing situation most likely I would have joined. But if Jay Wheel for instance is tested positive and he's my teammate I'm. Come on man we me. Yeah this is so subjective Jeff because I'm different I would have wanted to celebrate with my teammates. I just would've wore masks I would have done it differently but. turnage Justin Justin Turner did wear a mask out originally, but there were a couple of instances where cameras got him. He was talking to his wife taking pictures with her gave her a kiss mask was off and he was sitting down on the field for the team picture. To his left was the championship trophy to his right was Dave Roberts the dodgers manager who ten years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin. Lymphoma. So He's a cancer survivor. He's the person who has a pre existing condition and Justin Turner daybreak spoke for mascots at that point now Dave Roberts told Fox later on I think it was something to the effect that I didn't touch him. but you know he was he was in the same vicinity wasn't for fifteen minutes wasn't close contact defined by CDC but the optics on it as Andrew Freedom and the president of baseball operations says not good.

Thinking that he needed to get a sweep tag on a guy who was you know thirty feet away from him and? It just before I bring in our next guest when I first joined NFL network. Chris I. Think I've told you the story. Okay The Commissioner at the time? Pete rose. Newest Commissioner. The time Paul Tagliabue invited me to. Green Bay for. The. Two Thousand and three season opener. And I went there and I knew he was a long time. You know he went to Georgetown and he's a DC guy and it was a season ticket holder for the. Washington at the time other than football team team and I asked him I said, are you still a fan now that you're the commissioner and he goes no no no longer he goes I. Say. So you root for any team and he said, no I root for the team that's losing. Meaning, he wants the best possible. Game To. Unfold. And I imagine that would be the answer of my next guest certainly in light of what we solve the week. Joining us from the world. Series is the commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred. How are you commissioner? I'm good rich. How are you doing just fine I don't know if you just heard the story I told about Paul Tagliabue that he'd roots the team that's losing because he wants for a close game I imagine you could not even envisioned the way a game for could could finish up. Over. I I always do for the team that's behind in the series I think long series like the great seven game series we had in the NFC S. and L. She s are good for the sport. and you know Tampa was behind the series Saturday night but it was a great finish to the ball game. I mean just phenomenal baseball game all the way around I know what's so how do you are you? You're in the stadium or you watching it in the stadium yet like everybody else? Yeah. I, actually I visited all the division series sites saw at least one game in each of the division series rounds, and then came back down here for the beginning of the world series. I've done it all the Games and here until we're done I. Again I. I'm just wondering what what is it like for you to see something like that unfolded in front of you. The rest of the country is going crazy over right well, you know I, it was really interesting I was in the ballpark with a couple of the guys that work with me and. Between. The three of us we watch all the time a ton of baseball in over the years have seen a ton of baseball and I'm not sure I've seen a more unique and exciting and to a baseball game ever I mean I it was just. Just. All the things that happened. Is Series of events that seem impossible you know I know and again I know you're you're in charge of the sport so but you know talking to you like you're a fan because you are one of those as well. I mean just the story Brett Phillips to the fact that he didn't hit two hundred for either team including the team put him at the. Plate All season long put him at the plate in the biggest at bat of his life. He didn't even play in the LCS round. He's out there You know as a defensive replacement essentially on this roster and he's put in that spot and he puts one into play, and then all sorts of craziness breaks out like that. You can't. You can't script. Tell. Script it and just the pure emotion of what happened if you watch Bratton himself I, mean. the play unfolded. I mean I it. That's show of emotion is what sport is about I. Think it's worn things that makes baseball. So Great Just, the pure joy of winning such an unlikely. Or achieving such an unlikely victory was really fun to watch. All Right Rob Manfred Major League Baseball Commissioner here on the rich Eisen show prior to game six after an exhilarating weekend of the world series If I told you back in June that you'd be in this position one day potentially not to definitely away from handing out the trophy. In a bubble in Texas you would have said what? We designed for. Yeah I would if you told me That we would finish up in a bubble and and that's the way we're were gonNA finish I would have accepted that result very happily You know we entered the season with a lot of trepidation rich renewal is going to be a massive challenge but we're really lucky in some respects but was also a lot of hard work and sacrifice power players qualifications you know my staff the experts at work through this that allowed us to get through this and You know I do think it's important the game that we have a twenty twenty, one series champion I'm you're you're about to have one BUT Did you think it might not happen at some point? In time where we were really concerned about our ability to pull it off yet percents rich I. Mean you don't after the after the second outbreak we had the marlins and then the cardinals. were. Really concerned about where we were in a lot of people stepped up Tony Clark help this made the protocols, not only stiffer but really worked with us in terms of making sure the players were hearing to them I think that the staff at the club Got Much more aggressive and we were able to to to hold it together Rob Manfred Baseball Commissioner here on the rich Eisen show last time you and I spoke in person was at the Super Bowl I saw you prior to kick off of that game, and now here we are year about to complete your season the NFL is in the middle of the season. Those are the two sports that did not bubble up of you in the NFL had conversations at all about getting through season not bubbled up has there been any sort of dove tailing protocols and. There's been a Lotta conversation. Among the four major professional sports, the PGA tour about you know what works what doesn't work I know it goes back to before any of US started playing I mean obviously are situations were very different some of the sports were in a position where the the bubble kind of setup was workable. We looked really hard at it and just decided because of facilities and the amount. Of, time involved that we couldn't make it work but we've tried to be generous in terms of sharing our learning with other sports and the other sports are certainly been generous with us. Well, how been generous with the NFL again that they're. They're week seven like I'm sure your your colleague and friend Roger Goodell would sign a piece of paper that he would be giving out the Lombardi trophy. And I would be having this conversation with them two days before Super Sunday I'm sure he would sign that right now what what conversations have you.

"But I think he put the game and this he's not unique to this but he was putting it ahead of what this is really all about with the protests, props to the players who were not putting it ahead of right not going to go along with it right? Brodie. Van Wagon and he comes off he comes off well, like imagine if he had been on that Hot Mike, say a man Look I get it or rob I know where he's coming from. This is some bs but we just got you know what I mean like. Look bad. But it shows that he really it seems like he really gets what the players are talking about and what this whole protest is about. And I'm just rob I, don't know where you're at on this but I've said it before and now to me, this is just the latest Straw or the latest example. Of why I just think rob Manfred is in over his head. As the Commissioner of Major League Baseball I mean it just seems to be misstep after misstep after misstep and you know you can go back to the Astros cheating scandal. And I think his. I get it given the players immunity and I get it. You don't want to vacate the title, but to me that was the only. Answer to this situation because people always want justice and that's why the other. Opponents of the Astros a lot of the fans are so upset because there's a sense, the justice was not served a N. If you had taken away the championship readings in the championship from the Astros that would have been a roundabout way of punishing the players even as they continue to have their individual immunity. I thought that was a misstep I thought calling the championship trumpy. hunk of. Metal. I I guess I get it. I mean you're trying to be liberal but come on you belittle the very thing no way play for the the history and the legacy, and it's more than just a trophy of course. But still that was a misstep I mean I think not going into bubbles was the missed bubbles not bubble I get that but bubbles was a misstep, the seven inning doubleheaders even after you're already played nine at least. One Nine inning doubleheader you know I just think it's been issue after issue with Rob Manfred and then major league baseball attendants has declined every year under his watch and I don't know what they can do with him or will do with him or whatever. But to me rob this is just the latest example of how I think rob Manfred is in over his head and this is a time with the pandemic with all the racial strife. With the challenges that. All sports are facing pretty much outside of football the NFL. They need a powerhouse. To be there commissioner and I just I just haven't seen any evidence that Manfred up to the challenge I'm not as down on him as you are I think a lot of times. The other commissioners don't have to fight with the most powerful union in in the country and maybe the world which puts the baseball commissioner add a little bit of a disadvantage it just it is what it is. It's not as easy to maneuver around because the players won't stand for it. They're going to have a voice and everything has to run through them in order to to make it work. So I just think he's at a disadvant-, today's thing dom that there's no excuse for that but I've seen Roger Goodell do way more gaffes and just the way that the NFL's handled stuff you want to..
MLB commissioner confident league will get through season
"What happened with the Marlins in Philadelphia was just a reminder of how fragile this season is. So here we are. You know if Major League Baseball is a boxer, they just keep taking body blows. And it's some point. Yeah, it's just going to become too much. You think Keith Overman just report a little while ago that MLB is reached out to their broadcast partners and basically told him you need to prepare alternate programming for the week ahead, So yeah, very discouraging, and I got to tell you there's there's a lot of frustration at the team level with people feeling like that, while for the most part There are a lot of players trying to make it work front office is trying to make it work that in some cases that behavior just did not change in a way that was going to best protect all the players. They thought it was a Hail Mary All along, you know the thought was is that there could be some positive tests. And if there was that there could be some isolation. But for example, the major league Baseball testing has been every other day. Well, what happens if a player is infected? The day after he gets tested, and then he's around his teammates. The lag in the test results, which Sean do little. The national spoke to right off the bat where there was concerned that you know with the results just don't come back fast enough to do the isolation in the contact tracing that would be necessary to hold it down Those air reasons why, at the outset of this thing, there was a lot of skepticism that they could actually make it

Miami Marlins Outbreak Wreaks Havoc on M.L.B. Schedule
"Major league baseball season got underway last week. But so far it's been rough. More than half of the act of Miami Marlins players and several coaches from the team have tested positive for the Corona virus. As a result, Marlins games have been postponed through at least Sunday. But despite concerns over additional outbreaks, Major League Baseball officials have so far balked at the idea of canceling this truncated season altogether. Here's MLB commissioner Rob Manfred discussing the Marlin situation on ESPN on Monday. I don't put this in the nightmare category. I mean, obviously, we don't want any player. To get exposed. It's not a positive thing, but I don't see it as a nightmare. We built the protocols to allow us to continue to play. That's why we have the expanded rosters. That's why we have the pool off additional players. And we think we can keep people safe and continue to play. I've got J. McManus with me. Now she's the director of the Maris Center for Sports Communication and a sports columnist for the New York Daily News, Jane Great to have you with us. Oh, thanks for having me it. Rob Manfred, who We just heard MLB commissioner. There sounded pretty confident at least that he was going to be able to keep his player safe. But the Marlin situation sounds quite alarming. Tell us, you know how things have developed since the first cases were identified on the team. The proof is in front of him hasn't been able to keep his players safe. So the question is, what do they do now? The way that this developed was after a game in Sun on Sunday, where the Marlins were playing the Phillies before that game player had had tested positive for the Corona virus and the team of wanted to play that game anyway. And so I went ahead and played and of course, that Opens the door to exposure not just to the Marlins players, but also to the to the Phillies. And to anybody who's been working in that clubhouse. And so what you have, then is you know one test, turning into multiple tests in an outbreak and a team one of the 30 teams not being able to play going forward and quarantined in Philadelphia. Until they can figure out how to move this season forward
MLB Postpones Miami Marlins Games Through Sunday Due To COVID-19 Outbreak; Philadelphia Phillies Will Not Play Until Friday
"Tonight. Meanwhile, Major League Baseball Is facing some serious issues with the virus outbreak that is sick and half of the Miami Marlins team They league has suspended the bottom season through Sunday. The Philadelphia Phillies will be sidelined by the pandemic until Friday. Morpher maybe sees Todd and commissioner Rob Manfred feels confident baseball will be okay despite the fact that half the Marlins team is infected with covert 19. But MLB insider Jeff Passan on SportsCenter says the season just started. You've still got eight weeks of the season left. You've still got trips up and down the East Coast, the West Coast pass and says This is not The Marlins problem to think that this is going to be unique to only one club. Honestly, I think is frankly naive. Yankeesmanager Aaron Boone just wants to stay the course. If you're gonna have success on the baseball field this year is you're gonna have to be able to deal with the curve balls that Khun likely come on a daily and weekly basis. "We are here tonight. Commissioner Rob Manfred on the stand, joining me or my two witnesses testifying against rob Manfred I would like to turn it over to court for your opening. "Points every Sunday. So they're at the top of my list, my top ten. PODEVIN TODAY I saw Patrick Beverley had this tweet yesterday day before he said Hooper say what you want of King. James said he's open. Were all hoping nothing personal? Listen. If you go look at the history of the NBA of course Lebron James. Should have the most say and I don't think it's surprising. Lebron's actually. been fairly quiet over the last week. Because I think Lebron is allowing me to have a voice. He's allowing Dwight Howard to have an opinion. He's allowing all the other players to have their opinions. During as we see the protests going on, Lebron's moving back and I think working behind the scenes with Adam silver to ensure players heard players get opinions, but I do think Adam and Lebron have a special relationship very similar to Michael Jordan. And David Stern I think when you get as popular as Michael Magic Bird or especially the Braun you have so much value to the league's bottom line that you are asked to have a an I think Lebron, accommodated silver, and I think Lebron's the perfect perfect player for silver that he's for the players, voices and opinions. But Lebron basketball. We're getting it. It's the heard. Hi, guys Katie Lowes here. Actress, mom and host of the parenting podcast Katie's. "Casper. DOT, com terms and conditions apply so yesterday. As joy as noted a Kyle Shanahan signed a six year extension. To be the head coach of the San, Francisco Forty niners. Fell, in love with Sean mcvay a few years ago and I said time out. He's not the best offensive coach in his division. I think it's Kyle. Shanahan I think Sean. McVeigh's great, but I think Shannon has a chance to be all timer, and so we thought today if we looked at. Coach and quarterback. What is the Best Combo? Where does the coach elevate is their symmetry? Do they work together, or is it just a great quarterback carrying a coach? That doesn't get him. Here's our top ten here, Milberg? Tad I would say Marie and cliff. Kingsbury now you're GonNa Roll Your eyes on this, but do you realize last year? They went up. Eight and a half points a game together. They, they improved eight and a half points. A game and Cairo was the offensive rookie of the year, so clearly that Kingsbury worked. It also should be noted they were good team. When the offensive line didn't unravel in the seven games, they played for two or fewer sacks Arizona five and two in the toughest division football, so it worked its young, but it absolutely worked there at ten number. Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll. I think Russell Wilson's carrying this relationship. I will put it in the top ten. Because in the last five years, Russell Wilson has led the NFL and touchdown passes, but I don't think they've given him a post. Marshawn Lynch, always the right support behind him the right support in front of him He's elevated tight ends, but the minute they traded Jimmy Graham. And got rid of Max. Unger I thought it was disrespectful. The offensive line's never been the same I think. Russell is overwhelmingly carried this relationship, but they make a top ten list number I think the Shawn Watson and Bill O'Brien work together better than anybody will give him credit for in the last two years, when to Shawn's not been sacked or sacked one or fewer times, they're ten and together. They WANNA playoff game last year now. Bill O'Brien got limitations. He thinks he's a general manager and a coach, but I think they actually work well together. I think Phil Bryant good offense coach I think he's patient. They've won playoff games together. They're twenty four and thirteen together. O'Brien's mistakes are that he's not as good with personnel, but he's given to Shawn Watson world-class wide receivers. At least we'll see the Shaun Hopkins. Move how that works, but I think these guys actually work better together than people think. Number seven jared Goff Goffin Sean mcvay. In the last three years they have one nine plus games in every year. Consistency is very hard in the NFL by the way in the last three years. They've average twenty nine points a game. That is third highest in the NFL. most of the issues have become interior offensive line issues, and let's be honest. I'll give McVeigh credit here. He dealt with that Todd Gurley mass where they paid them too early. and. He didn't WANNA call him out, but Gurley was. Kind of you know. The Not really connecting with the team. They couldn't depend on him. He had to work with a backup running back situation, so mcvay stock has been sold I. Still think he's really really good, and I think the rams will be nine one team this year number six Lamar John Harbaugh now. They were first inrushing last year I. Give Harbaugh a lot of credit. For putting his arms around Lamar. WHO's not being paid anything now and accumulating talent I don't think John's A. In elite offensive coach I think he's I think he's really an elite human. Who understands the gifts of Lamar? Jackson, but I think this is a relationship that continues to grow. They've been disappointing in the last two years in the post season I still think they're kind of trying to figure out each other, but I put him at six. Number five I don't get those who doubt Brady and Bruce Arians I listen. Arians has won. Another Super Bowl? Tom Got six Arians won a couple as an assistant. Bruce Arians Wins Games and he makes quarterbacks better. He did it with a young Big Ben. He did it with a young Andrew Luck. And Tampa last year with James Winston and people you got to remember. They were I in the NFL last year in passing. With Jameis Winston now a lot of turnovers, but they had a mess at right tackle. Didn't have much of a running game and Jameson turnover pro, so Tampa was first in the NFL last year in passing now. They're going to get Tom's efficiency and Tom's experience, so I think this is a reputable, redeemable and very productive. Number four Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo Garoppolos way better than anybody wants to admit Kyle Shanahan. Record in San Francisco, without Jimmy G. Not great with them. It's twenty one thousand six. They were also second in the NFL. Last year in points per game now the reason that's note worthy as they lost both tackle. they had wide receivers banged up. They had to insert Emmanuel Sanders at wide receiver during the middle of the season. It did not go without bumps. They had a lot of injuries upfront, they're they're pro bowl. fullback got hurt and yet here was kyle hero was Garoppolo in their first year together being about the only team that you watch on, TV and think could go toe to toe the Kansas City or a Baltimore. Number three drew brees and Sean Payton now. It is not quite as dynamic as it was three years ago. It's the longest running Combo in the NFL working together since two thousand six. They have been together so long. It's just unheard of in the NFL. Here's the other thing. They have been a top ten offense every year. They've worked together including number one six times now. Their offense of line is very good now. It was not nearly as good about four years ago. so that's really impressive. Six Times number one offense in the NFL. Number two I think Doug. Peterson? It took me a while to get used to it, but I think Carson Wentz and Doug Peterson the reason I, put them over breeze and Sean Payton is because I. Think went to this point to better quarterback I. Think Doug Peterson has come off the Andy Reid tree and has really really been good He's Nimble. He evolves They've been twenty-seven in fifteen. In the last forty two games by the way the eagles have made the playoffs for three straight years. That's the longest streak in the NFC. whence last four games last year throwing the deck chairs, absolutely remarkable. I thought Peterson and Wentz. Even, during the Super Bowl Year thought the most impressive performance by either one of them was the last month of last season. The schedule was not easy. Head injuries everywhere wide receiver offensive line secondary I think Winston. Peterson undervalued I. Think we. We all know reason Peyton work. We all know Garoppolo and Shanahan I, think Winston. Peterson's best days are ahead number one not real top homes and Andy Reid a plus offensive coach a plus. MAHOMES has ten more touchdowns than the rest of the NFL last two years, and that's missing two games I think Andy Reed's the best schemer. In the NFL, he sent me something here down. Text showed me to plays. He's GonNa. Use against the broncos. Didn't share. It's just in the volt. Let's responsible of you. Yeah, so I think I think this is one of these rare marriages. When you get a great offensive mind, a great offensive player. It doesn't happen very often. It's just the perfect marriage. It feels like breeze. And Peyton like eight years ago where you just knew you're getting twenty nine.

"Pandemic. You shouldn't be touched by it and they say well. You know what about you and people at Fox we we've taken pay cuts. Everybody has taken pay cuts and the state of juicer. Get the exact amount of money to play. Half a season as you would a regular season with no fans in the stands, no parking, no concessions no stadium merchandise. How in the world could you sit there and think you deserve exactly the same amount of pay I do not get it I. Don't understand. I'm not saying the older perfect, but in this situation column where we are, it makes no sense, and there's gotta be some sacrifice when everybody else has sacrificed in this country, a comes off as tone death as being totally oblivion to what's going on out there to really believe you deserved your exact pay. Do you understand what's happening? I? Don't get it. Well. The beverly in the NBA gets it. He sent out a tweet that say hooper say you want a King James wants to who we all open nothing personal business i. don't think he was taking a shot at Lebron. He just I think that's the way the League operates. What your thoughts. I think he's one hundred percent. Right and you know this if Lebron. James decided that he did not want to play in the Mickey. MOUSE CHAMPIONSHIP DOWN IN ORLANDO. The NBA would have a hard time selling to people and getting people and sponsors and the networks interested. If the biggest star decided, he didn't WanNA play. You wouldn't be involved, so Patrick Beverley is right. And I'm not against the other players who have pushed back the Kyrie Irving Group Dwight Howard is some of these other guys I think they have a legitimate point on where they are, and what their consciousness everybody is different. Everybody doesn't react to things the same way so I do get their side there standpoint, but let's just be honest I mean Adam silver when it comes to Lebron James is no more than Pokey Pinocchio and Lebron. James is pull the strings. We know that. By the way. I don't even know what Oh a is it a kind of a very trumpy? News Network Mike Gundy were a T. shirt on a fishing trip. Somebody took a picture and and black players were not happy with it I. Think Gundy's Your Classic College Football Coach and Small Town. He's got too much power tone-deaf. What did you make of the entire day yesterday, which ended with some level of resolution between the player and the coach? I think where we are right now Colin. Social consciousness that's going on. You even see some top basketball recruits who are now going to historically black colleges and universities rather than your mainstream universities, and when you start to find out information about who people are what their real feelings are I, think that that's going to play and have an effect down the road as time goes on, and if you feel like, maybe you, your coach says all right. He's in your living room with your mom, your dad or your guardians, or whatever and it sounds good, but you know deep down. This guy's maybe not. Your your interests or your people's interests and hand. That might not be the right situation for you even though he's at a major school in offer you. A free ride or something or scholarship so I think that you know people are being exposed every day and I think people. Athletes are taking notes you know like the Jerry Jones not being Jerry Jones has a radio show is so vocal television views, but now all this happens in the country, and we haven't heard from Jerry Jones I mean that that's that's say something to, shouldn't it yeah it? It does make me think. I thought about this I. I said Colin Kaepernick's reemergence on the scene and I do think he'll get invited to a team or two I wonder if not more valuable than ever. Dak handed Jerry a life preserver the last time the kneeling her Jerry's business I think it is and I think a Dak had jerry's back on the anthem and I think he's never been more valuable because I think we're going to have a year of some unrest in some politics your thoughts. Yeah, this is a tough spot. And I think for Dak Prescott who who did side with a majority of the players in the original one, but as you know, he's spoken out. He's put out a statement. He's donated a million dollars for some police training, so he's been more vocal and been out. There and I'm GONNA. Tell you call it I. Don't know if he has the opportunity to not neil win. Lead Jerry threaten his players last time it said anybody who would kneel wouldn't be wearing a cowboys uniform i. just don't see that as being. Able to hold up to that this time around. You have Baker Mayfield. Talking about he's going to kneel, and all kinds of players will already committed to it, and you mean to tell me that Dak Prescott given the temperature in this country, and where black people are and what we've been black and Brown people that he's not going to be a part of some sort of protests if his other teammates are I, think that's a slippery slope. I get what you're saying with Jerry. But I'm not so sure that Jerry's going to be able to say well I'll sign decky. Last time. I'm not so sure that Jerry does for sure that Dakhla have his back after especially Colin after he signed a new contract. Yeah, no, it's a very very good point, Kapernick. I. Think I think you'll get invited somewhere. I'm not sure three and a half years off. He can play. You think there's a spot for them. I really do I. think that there's some team that could utilize this guy you remember. When he burst onto, see my no, it's been a while and Wanda war. Ski proclaimed that he could be the greatest quarterback who ever played the game you were member was unbelievable. Yeah, he's not an old guy. Colonies only thirty two Tom Brady's about the start. The season at Forty forty-three Colin Kaepernick if you get. Get them back in and get him back to working out, or whatever can still be a productive quarterback and could still play for somebody I. Really believe that when you think of all the players they've dug up or got out of retirement off some couch to complain the NFL and get a backup paycheck, so I think he can play for the in the NFL. Let's take a shot of look at..

Just the relationship that everybody I thought they were figure it out, but you know like I said Tom's earned the right to. Explore? He felt like he wanted to continue to play and. In his right, you know I mean you look at all the weapons that Tom has tap I think. He's going to put up numbers, but you also gotTa look at the Division that he went in I mean I. Don't think they're just GonNa Sweep de Division. I think New Orleans. Probably still the favorite. but Tom kind likes it that way he he wants something to prove, and I think drew in those guys, and even the Falcons here I think. It'll give him something to work towards, so we have a year with no TA's will probably have a shortened NFL preseason. Bennett benefit goes to who veteran guys veterans Veterans for veteran coaches. Just like it's tough when you even if you have just a lot of talent if you haven't played together if you haven't been on the same page. Negga be pro bowl players I just think football's totally different. You know rather than star driven like basketball. Thank you have to have the the teams together for sometime and also coaching staff just been on the same page and you know obviously we had that in new. Stidham but my theory is if he was. was as good as everybody keeps telling me they wouldn't WanNa Brady back. I. Mean they were ready to move Jimmy Garoppolo three years ago and instead you know Bella check had to move him. It's nothing against Jarrett Stidham but they've watched him practice for a year to a year and a half, and they still wanted Brady back. What are you hearing? What your guests about stem in ballot? "Throughout the virus. Better than ever. You know how people respond in crisis is a testament to their strength. You just flourishing, thank you, thank you. It's different. Different. great to have you today, I was off yesterday. Does this sort of my Monday join knows I'm all hyped up with coffee and ready to go, so I'm going to take a very unpopular position for the next six seven minutes. I'm going to defend rob, Manfred the commissioner of Baseball, WE'RE! GonNa have baseball. We're going to have baseball out of this stuff. Just you know public throwing stuff out there. What you don't like rob Manfred is I. Don't like the tension between the players and the owners. All that is such an adorable take for you twenty one year old bloggers. Google baseball history. We had a work stoppage in the seventies. In the eighty S. In Nineteen ninety-four. Almost in two thousand two uncle rob wasn't around. Then you blame him for that. There's a reason baseball hired rob Manfred. Who is a Labor lawyer? Because the billionaires and millionaires have been fighting since I was a teenager. Baseball's million issues in rob. Manfred would love to change all of them, but he can't. For Instance College Baseball only offers eleven point seven scholarships a year. College football, eighty five players free ride. College basketball thirteen players free ride baseball. A handful of guys get a free ride. It's partial scholarships. What does it mean the best athletes are like Baker? Mayfield was a great baseball player, so let's Murray so as Johnny Manziel. Guess what they chose football. Free College that Rob Manfred fault are rigid unions. Rob Manfred fault well I. Don't like what he said one day, and I don't like what he said the other. You didn't like him before that. Stop the hypocrisy. You weren't on Manfred Fan of week ago when he said we're getting baseball. You just want to complain about something. Baseball's had negotiation labor strife by entire life. Had Labor strife forever. Rob Manfred would love to get rid of many things in baseball. He can't. It took five years to get the replay solved. The reality with all these sports in America let's take the five biggest sports in America. Everybody wants to blame the Commissioner for your lack of popularity, but all five are exactly as popular as they would be regarding any commissioner. You guys always complain about Gary Bettman. He doesn't promote the sport nobody. I played hockey as a kid. It's not our sport. It's not gonNA be that popular. The most popular sport in America is football, the NFL it should. Should be why it's got history. It's ours we like stuff that's ours. We created football. It's ours it's got history. It's got regulated violence. It fits perfectly on a TV screen. We bet it betting now. Legal in America and also, and this is not a small thing. It may be the biggest thing. It has the most popular and streamlined minor league system. We all watch football on Friday then college football on Saturday, and then the NFL on Sunday and we know the guys. The entered the league. It's the most popular even if you put Gary Bettman running the NFL, it would be the most popular. What's the second most popular now I'll just go with NBA. It may not be, but it's my second sport. It's got history. But, not as good as the NFL it was almost dead in the early seventies. It's our game. It's ours now. It's a little bit international. The NFL is not internationals good for global dollars, but it's minor league system on like football. Now. It's got a G. League and some guys don't play in college, so it's not as good, but it is very fast, but it doesn't have the urgency of football because it's got eighty two regular season games the NFL. You can't missing Sunday NBA. You can miss a month. So it should be number two, but it's got. Stars. And it starts very accessible. I can tweet liberal on. I could talk to the Ron. Then three is baseball. Does NEVA'S MANY STARS Equally or more international again great for the global dollars, but it has no minor league system unlike college basketball. That's got a dying. Minor League. System College basketball. How many are you? Sit Around and watch minor league baseball like nobody. The season is absurdly long one hundred sixty two games for people that say the NBA's to long doublet that's baseball, but it's got massive historical relevance, and let's be honest fall baseball's good, and it's also very popular in big cities, but again with a phone. The pace of play is hard. It's slow. It's long and we're not a slow. We're a caffeinated society. Then let's go to number four hockey. which not ours? No, it's not ours at all. We don't like that the Olympics we root for America. It's not our sport. Canada's better. Europe's better. It doesn't have very marketable stars. It's got long regular season like the NBA not as long, but it's not very good on television. It's not very good on television. Now it's fast, it's fun. It's got regulated violence, but all these leagues in America are controlled by television. It's not very appealing on television and again it's not ours and it is also. It's very international now. Let's go to number five soccer. Soccer's Super International. It's really not ours. It's got no history the new kid on the block. We don't really bad soccer. At least I don't know anybody that. Bet Soccer, and Oh, by the way there's a lot of upside to it, but at least hockey's got some history. I watched hockey in the seventies puck. It's gotten bad. It's the most international, and it's the one sport that not even ours. They call it. They call it football. They took our football over there or maybe we took it from. There's either way. NFL NBA Baseball Hockey MLS. They're all in the order they should be in. Football's number one because it is totally ours, it is totally domestic. It's got the most popular streamline system. It's the best on TV and we bet at the most. It's been that way for thirty years regardless of the Commissioner. You're all banging on rob. Manfred there's a reason Major League Baseball's executive office is filled with Labor lawyers. Because, they're labor fight every twelve years in his lead, and I know what you're saying. Rob Manfred. He just doesn't promote doesn't HAP-. There are great strata baseball. It's history. It's unbelievable in the postseason. It's big in major cities New York. BOSTON PHILLY LA FAD Chicago at Great San Francisco Dallas Atlanta. It's great. But a lot of things just banging his head up against the wall like the last nine commissioners. Here's Rob Manfred. I'm not confident. I think there's real risk and as long as there's no dialogue that real risk is going to continue. It's just as disaster for our game. Absolutely no question about it. It shouldn't be happening. And it's important that we find a way to get past.

"Because I would much rather hang out with someone that could teach me something and I promise you about sports. Teach me something, but it's not about fame. And I think famous awesome. I mean meaning that if someone's famous, it's cool when I did bolers and I was doing the same with the Rock. By the way second episode of the third season if you haven't seen it. The first time we mentioned that Joe. That's pretty good thing I think. I, mean you know oh? Wait I have Sandra. Day So. I enjoyed it. But you think I'm GONNA. Not if the rock was playing nose tackle, you think I'd say. He was good when he wasn't. But. It's what people do, and also the owners don't do themselves any favors. But. What is the consequence of this? The players never told now. It's natural with children and politics. Whatever it is, you go to the point of resistance. If Jonas wanted to take day he's the opposite doesn't WanNa take days off, but let's say that they didn't have a formal. Schedule, you could take them off. Just don't abuse it. What's going to happen? Then ones that want to take the days off grid take take take until they say oh enough and then they stop. Right as if you're getting over on someone what you do, keep teeth taken. The risk gets slapped with the ruler. Exactly. SLATS NAPPIES or slapsys players. No one I was watching. Literally so much ESPN one. I didn't hear one person. Say One thing. About the players. No one said you know. What happens to the fans, and that's what everyone's lose sight of. The fans. have to be feeling disc I feel disconnected. When NFL players. Had Off. Season jobs. It. Was I relate to this guy? Yeah, he might make the hall of fame. He's famous. He's got more money than me, but you know something. That's Bradshaw, but Mike Webster John Called Yeah I. Know the Lyman. steelers. They. off-season type jobs maybe used cars, even beyond ballers. The Lyman got a job. Selling used cars, and that might be a little anachronistic a little out of time. But it wasn't that long ago, so now it didn't feel like they hit the lottery and more complaining the whole time. And I know it's not that simple. I know that the players have been exploited in the past. I know that. It's like hitting the lottery, so they should. They should have a lot of cool things. But if we stacked up and let me ask Jonas 'cause, he follows a media as much as anyone. We're straight out of Vegas. If you, said I wanNA take every word that's been said in the last year on the national airwaves were players expressing their gratitude that they can play game and have generational wealth. Because you might say rj earned at that good. Best, pool shearer in the world does add generational wealth best dart thrower, best hacky sack player. There's all kinds of sports all kinds of skills. You can't make a living at chess, which isn't a sport, but if you're the fifteenth best chess player in the world, you're teaching somewhere between tournaments. And the Fifteenth Best Football Player has. A couple of hundred million Yup and I'm not saying they don't deserve because they're earning it, but they're earning. It caused a relationship with the owners, and they're working together to have this amazing dream. But my question is. What percentage of time are you here in gratitude? And love of the fans. And what percentage are you hearing? Complaints Out God. I would say eighty twenty complaints being eighty. That's that's you're. You're being nice dinner. Stay! Invited to Brady Quinn's. So That's interesting, so you do a show on the week on Sundays right with. Does he, does he? Critique the players in any any kind of fair he does absolutely does yeah, he's because he also. He's calling game. He's calling. College Football Games and he's covering college football, but he's also doing NFL Games, and although he has relationships with guys still to this day, he's not afraid to say if if somebody makes a mistake or if somebody's not playing well to be critical of them, but he's not a hot take artist, in which you could be offended by it, and still I've heard. That's what I do, but I heard. I've heard stories that somebody may have heard something, and we'll reach out and say. What was that about? You know like players do hear everything so now. How long was Brady in the League? Seven years I think so? He was that long, okay? that's interesting. All I know is this. Espn Fox Julia hire former coaches, but they probably are you know they? You know a guy like man gene, one of my favorite and you know analysts. But. It's really it the Zach Lowe's of the world. The guys didn't really come from the sport but analytics. They don't get hired very much because they don't have names before they start right and to me if you have. Three people on the piano and one leg loves the players. The other one loves loves the players and the other one triple them. There's no other side. And we can debate. Oh, is it safer in the bubble? Blah Blah Blah. The thing that I find offensive. And we're take get. See what's trending? I find it offensive. That the dialoque from players is. Just not worth the money. I mean it I promise you. They had eighty percent of their salary yet to be paid. There'd be no debate about this. It's the last little bit of the money Ain't worth it and you know if the fans don't get a NBA champion, no my problem. How could they be thinking? That this is becoming such a thing in the NBA is by far the most player friendly there is. And Adam Silver, who apparently was so deliberative? He was contemplating demon. Think to pull the players to see if they agreed with this plan. I know yeah. I thought it was a done deal. Rj just on Friday and now all of a sudden all these players. Maybe we don't WANNA play be sure to catch live editions of.

"If you had your druthers, it would be all done there. And you'd be wrapped up and getting like crazy coming off of that. I think there's a positive and negative. Right. I mean, I think that positive of you know, a flurry of activity when you own a week in December when it's your off season. That's a really great thing. The second thing it does is it puts it behind you all the stories about who signing not signing. They're done and you can move on getting ready for the season in looking forward to who's going to be good and how the clubs are gonna play. Rob Manfred here on the rich Eisen show the Commissioner of baseball. The question of the schedule with the Mets Noah Syndergaard, not happy about it. Did you hear about it from the Mets about playing night game? And then having a a home opener early in the afternoon in one of the players having to take a drug test to keep the team held up for an hour. Yeah. Look, I mean, obviously. We liked to be sensitive to travel concerns are players play a really tough schedule right hundred sixty two times and now one hundred and eighty seven days, but the fact that a matter is one of the keys to a really strong drug program. Which is what we have is a lack of predictability if player. No if players now, they're not going to be tested on a game day when they have to travel afterward that weakness in the program. So while I don't love the inconvenience. I'm really sympathetic to what some of the Mets player said, I think the larger issue is that we have a drug program that is completely unpredictable in terms of when you're going to be tested, and that's a good thing. Okay. You my my Red Sox friend, Chris Brockman over? There is probably this is born out of the record that the Red Sox currently have right there. What's the record right now to six? Okay. That starting the season on the road for World Series champion is something that obviously you can't prevent right because the schedules done before the season's over right, then I get that. Right. Chris. Yes. Okay. So on behalf of right SOX fans. What what about the idea about creating a schedule after the season's over? Well, we have an obligation under the collective bargaining agreement to give a scheduled to the players association in July to give them an opportunity to comment on it. And, you know, get it in place. Secondly, the clubs like to sell against it. Right. They don't they don't wanna wait until you know, who the World Series champ is, and you know, it's interesting everybody looks at our schedule. And they say, oh, you know, you should do this. You should do that. While you know, another consideration right is Boston is a cold weather. City. They started on the road where it was warmer, and they will open at home where hopefully they've had another week and a half four to to heat up. So you know, there's just a lot of considerations. Go into who start to wear so it's climate change. Chris I understand part of my point. Is that other sports the NFL and the NBA in particular have done a great job making the opening night of the season with their respective champions, a big event, and I think baseball could take this look at them and use it as an opportunity to do the same. Yeah. I think that I think from a practical perspective to start building a stage, Royal once, you know, who wins the World Series. Just don't have enough time to do it. You know, you remember it's twenty four hundred thirty games as opposed to, you know, much more limited football. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. I mean, it's just a more complicated process. And from a timing perspective. Probably not workable rob Manfred here on the rich Eisen show. We Alex bregman show studio, and he was awesome. Yes. Awesome. And if thing that I really enjoyed about him in meeting him is he's like, you know, young players. We want to sell this game. We want to get out there have, you know, I've you sense that from of the younger players that they're yeah. They're ready to roll. We have a younger group of players. They're really appealing from talent level..

Why was he threatened if you let? Yeah. I don't know. I just. Me and rob Manfred until rob Manfred puts into computerize the strike zones. I'm never going to keep hounding him. So since you've got baseball on top of the mind here, Fred I do want to play for folks in Chicago. I know maybe cubs fans are not as apt to mystic as they once were about Bryce Harper signing with the cubs. But I think White Sox fans are maybe a little more energized about his free agency. And if they're in the mix than they were perhaps as recently as a couple months back. Why also heard that Michael kopeks said he'd be more than happy to give up his number. Eighty people are dropping are leaving breadcrumbs bread crumbs left. And right, and Fred when you need journalism to be done these days who do you turn to there's only one place. Yeah.
