"With enormous wisdom and experience and a great ad maker and he went to film school But yes so. We had a great team a great creative team. I had seven production teams. All of whom got used to getting close calls for me in the middle of the night their time thing. I've ever really good idea. I'm sending you a script can have this in the morning. I had one idea that. I sent the steve. Steve also steve schmidt on the lincoln project founder was on on this podcast. And you remember this. It was In the first debate i think was the first debate biden brings up the Injecting the disinfectant and then trump goes I was being sarcastic and and you know that. And if you look at that footage boy is he not being sarcastic. So not sarcastic. So i wanted you guys to do that. One which show show saying. I was being sarcastic and then show him ending on. What's her face. Dr archer brooks looking like. She wanted to go all. I could hear in her head. Her internal monologue was come. Sweet death deliver me from this world. Yeah you you wrote a book With kaya that title everything. Trump touches turns to shit. Was it close enough. Everything trump touches dies. Oh that yes. I always joke about that. Is that you know i the first time i said it. It was flippant. It was sort of like a throwaway halloween. Unfortunately for some people has become like an iron law of american politics. Was that mean. Every single one of these people who who believes they're the exception and the end gets screwed. Oh i see what you're saying. Because i was going to the literal dies with now up to fifty thousand. Unfortunately i mean unfortunately is a scale problem that i i. I did not intend it to apply the country at large and noncombatants in this political war. When did you write a wendy. Start shutting drop it. I wrote everything dies in two thousand seventeen. So you didn't okay. I just wanted to cover a the second. My second book running against the devil. "And loving that's a reflection on you vladimir putin has dogs. okay now. I believe he would cut a dog's head off and send it to you in the mail just as soon look at you and he literally cents puppies the foreign leaders as a gift which shows his socio pathy but the fact that he even knows just for pictures sake. It looks good. Be seen rolling on the ground laughing and kissing dogs shows just how trivial shallow at absolutely devoid of human understanding. The trump's are the biden's now have two german shepherds champ and major champions twelve and he got to be the vp's dog in the white house and now he's going back as the president's job history history. That's history right there. That has never happened. His new brother major will be experiencing the white house for the first time. They are both rescue. Dogs rescue dog both. I thought they were both but maybe not. that's fine. i thought only major was. And i love like of course they had to get the democrats would not allow their like. If we don't get to have sanctimoniously on about rescuing animals. Got to be a message here in a way to be smog and put people down and shame people okay. We'll get the us. And as far as i'm concerned any animal you get and you give a home is being saved so i just think it's so perfect that after four years of a family that basically murders animals for fun and has no authentic love each other has not provided leadership or mentorship to people and has only shown what a self serving monarchy can become and how devoid people can be when their only outlet to animals is hunting them. The biden's are going to reignite the loss fires of affection in this country for a lot of people leading by example and by just being themselves. I like to imagine champ and major finding trump's pajamas and peeing on them and taking huge german shepherds shits in his dentures drawer. I wish trump would have to sit with biden as the new president with champion major in the room. Low key growling and trump trying. Not to shit his pants. I for one already feel more and more comfortable safer. And i just have a deep seated relief knowing there's going to be dogs who you can clearly see are deeply loved and those dogs love them back just google the biden's major and champ and try not to feel happy and excited for the near future. "All right so this is the part of the show julius to find a so. There's that moment that's happening. Because of or in spite of are piece of shit president the diarrhea toilet republicans and the corona gracie culture war. That fox news and facebook are responsible for. She hates doing it. And even though we supposedly won the election and just got comma harrison. The white house. And she's the so there. Is that for the next motherfucking decade. It's gonna be a long and grinding two months waiting for trump to actually leave so we still need mamiya to find the small rays of light shining through each pile of pu destruction. The republicans leave in their wake. So tell us mammy al. What is your so there. Is that for the second historical week. All hooky well sticking with my animal theme which you know. I love to always come back. This week was pretty easy. Not since joe joe and key when the presidency has this segment been a week ago. Yes not since. Joe joe and kiki won the presidency a week ago. Has the segment been in any capacity easy or an anyway fun to do. It's basically been the equivalent of going to the dentist having to wait for the doctor to see you. And when he does he has bad breath and you have bad breath and you're in a room of bad breath and all of your teeth. Cavities and then you get veneers and then you have dry mouth forever and your lipstick to your teeth and your mouth turns into trump's mouth and then you die or something such as but this week was different. You know it really has had me in my feelings and looking inward you know a lot of times. People judge people on whether or not they have kids or family or are alone and can't seem to grow up and even though they're at an age where they should really not be living like a reclusive art student. They are maybe they haven't made it and most likely will die alone in a field but sometimes we judge people if they don't have any pets. Haven't you met someone. And and they're like i've never even had a pet and you're like what the fuck the matter with you now. I am all of these people. I realized i am judge jury. I am the judge. And i'm the convicted. If someone is of a certain age doesn't have kids or family to speak of or even a partner. I think all sad. And i continue plucking the hairs out of my face and smoking and looking in the mirror at the person i'm saying awsat about and then meet people who have never had a pet and i think what is the matter with them and then there's trump the irony here is that on paper. Trump is normal. He has kids. A wife ex-wives job a family and yet doesn't have any pets and apparently when he was married to ivana who had like little rich dogs. She said about him in her book that donald wasn't donald wasn't a dog person meaning. He isn't a pet or animal person at all shocking court. Okay like wow think about it. Just think about this. We haven't seen a dog in the white house at all. In the last four years we have not seen a dog or a pet anything in the fucking white house. we haven't even seen barron. We haven't seen anything just like little in q. Exactly it's fourteen feet tall anyways so he wouldn't count. That's right now. All of this swirled around in my head and it really put me myself him the world and the biden's into perspective when you think about for the last four years we haven't even seen a sign of affection we haven't seen love vulnerability compassion for one second coming out of this white house and ironically even if it's fake or just visual something that we can look at that translates immediately to people that we think is like love or affection our pets or kids but when faction between people and say what you will about nancy and ronald but at least you got the field they were in love they were in love and it showed but when the kids even turn out to be ruthless hog like their dad. You're left looking for pets. And there have been none to be seen for a million miles not even from any of the trump kids hanging on their walls. The only animals that were in the trump orbit were murdered mercilessly by dawn and eric who no matter how many animals they kill could not make their dicks any bigger or their father loved them. Dogs cats turtles anything. There's nothing with the trump's their lack of care and love for anything but money has been apparent and stunning for the last four years and was never magnified more at least to me. By the fact that this week you couldn't go online and type in joe biden and not see a picture of his new rescue dog major and his dog champ. Okay the biden's upbringing dogs back to the white house. Dogs equal affection. Loyalty love compassion. Caring annoying thirst buck etry. Fine co-dependency gary moore phasing blah blah blah on you allergy which is all. Just love right. Biden is the exact opposite of trump and yet again this is where will this is why we can't judge. We can't judge just got to keep everything in perspective because again huge family but pets trump huge family. No pets and yet still not. One member of that family could convey any other feeling then greed to save their lives. I am so excited to see dogs back in the white house pets denote a soft spot. In a person they show a level of caring for something less powerful than yourself but also that could be turned and weaponized and if it isn't love.

"Bush in the popular election. Jot down a couple of boats. My background day. Why don't even have the electoral college. Now you're going to see real. Change is likely leading in the polls. Now where did you hear that box news. This is all bush's fault. Reagan was the best president. If i could vote for bill clinton again i would. We're screwed. This is our new segment where we talked to a real life. Republican why because republicans are different than us and we think it's hilarious. This actually isn't a new segment. It's an old segment that we just renamed. It used to be called julie's on her period and wants to yell at someone on november third. She does still get her period. Actually nothing changed and nothing will but it's much easier to pretend to be open minded now that we have a little bit of power back and if we win the to georgia's senate season. January democrats are going to become the most obnoxiously fake open minded people on the planet but until then republicans are still the most obnoxious people and god damn are they obnoxious steady diet of fox news and facebook have turned half this country into a bunch of raving ignorant nationalist assholes and they're not even a white which is why eight former republican operatives got together and founded the lincoln project a political action committee dedicated to defeating donald trump and ending trump is You know the lincoln project. They're the ones who made all those crazy over. The top ryan murphy esque attack ads. That were all over social media if you're not on social media mom i'm talking to you immediately. Google the lincoln project best ads and get ready to laugh. These mother fuckers are shady queens and the ads are beyond seven they are shady weeds and out of the eight founders. The shadiest aka the funniest by far is rick wilson. Rick wilson is a republican strategists and commentator who you've seen a million times on msnbc and bill maher the man devours trump and everyone in his rotted administration on the regular and he does it with ease. If it doesn't work out with the lincoln project he should consider going on. Rupaul's drag race because gir- trick. Wilson could read those queens seriously. Now i consider myself an aficionado of anti repartee and this man is one of the best bucking period. Which is why shit. One thousand bricks when he agreed to come on are stupid ass podcast to tell our listeners. About how hilariously. Gross republicans are without further fucking and do. We are super excited to finally talk to rick wilson. Hey rick shocked by language. I've heard so far we trigger you. I feel i feel as if i need to save space silently. Hold my wife pillow for while. So you guys formed the lincoln project to get trump out so morris the hot question. Everyone's on everyone's mind is now that he's out. What's your mission moving forward. We established the lincoln project in december of nineteen. We wouldn't aditorial for the new york times and it said we're going to go after trump and trumpism and his enablers so we've killed the big zombie. Let's say but there are a lot more zombies wandering the countryside. And if we don't go after them. Those little fuckers are gonna keep biting people and spreading this nationalist populism and this racially inflicted authoritarianism and all of the things that made up trumpism. There will be out there still. But you know guys like tom. Cotton and josh hawley and marco rubio and ted cruz. They'll try to run up to the car. Wash and buff out the shitting of trump and say these ideas are really good. It's his truck was a flawed messenger. Well our response to that is go. Fuck yourselves tampa florida. And so we're going to continue to go after those folks for a while now and we also believe that you know as for the remainder of this year that the georgia races are enormously important. Because if if you look at these a jon. Ossoff and reverend warnock they're not running against david purdue and killing laughlin. Dave kelly floor are like a bucket of melted ice cream. They mean nothing. And they're sort of sticky in there and there could be grotesque when the sun comes out. But they're running against mitch. Mcconnell yes right okay. And and mitch. Mcconnell is is the guy on the ballot for real. And so if you have mitch mcconnell with control of the senate. He's going to train wreck. Joe biden from the first day. He's going to go after him. And prevent covert relief. He's gonna prevent pre existing condition protections he's gonna prevent economic relief. That we desperately need is gonna prevent police reform which we desperately need so the whole bag of fuck you that mitch. Mcconnell has in store depends on this georgia race and the most delicious outcome in a lotta ways is if we win both those seats and look. It's going to be a hard race. i'm not gonna. I'm not gonna bullshit you. These are hard seats in a red state. Georgia pulled it off her by this year. It is not a blue state please. Everybody remember that atlanta blue part rest of the state not so much but if we pull those off comma harris is mitch mcconnell's boss and he is thus her bitch she's the tiebreaking vote on a million things. And don't get our ops going. I will say hell even by wofford. It's going i mean doesn't it isn't exciting. Though wreck wreck the thought of kama harris topping him. Describe the feeling it gives you. You know i hesitate to say that. I think of the words erection and mitch common but if i may quote here yes please do so right. That's yeah it's it's beyond it's beyond okay. So we're gonna we're gonna get to. What the lincoln project is doing in terms of georgia but in terms of trump is what can really be done without getting fox news on board there. The cancer that s- brainwashing the country without taking over their content. How do you really stop this train. That's just like off and that's a front that a lot of groups are ours. Included are really looking at for the future because look we. Don't look at this yes. We looked at this as an electoral fight every cycle but there's also a longer strategic argue. You have to travel here. You cannot continue with an isolated hermetically sealed bubble of bullshit generated by fox where people who are. Let's just generically described them. Sixty five plus likely voters sitting in their homes watching nine or ten hours of this shit every goddamn day and seeing the same messages echoed again on their facebook groups. And i can't tell you the number of times we've sat in a focus group of the last five years and someone says i believe extra. Why ludicrous thing. Donald trump said was not true. Yes it is no. It's not. I saw it on facebook. Where did you see that facebook. Oh patriotic patriots for palin eagle forum. Nine thousand dollars. Wow i feel like. We've gotten messages from them. In fact i got one..

It's just the two of them they don't give a fuck and trump has refused to let joe biden have access to the classified intelligence briefings. He's never going to concede he was such a desperate thirst bucket for the second term that he literally this is a fact filed to run again in twenty twenty on the day of his inauguration in two thousand seventeen january. No because that's when the aging stop that he kind of probably looks so good because he went backwards in time. Yeah meanwhile the rest of us for some reason during the pandemic five thousand pounds. I'm never looked older. I aged more than i've aged in my whole life in the last year. Yeah this year has been wiser. The only comfort we have is knowing yeah. Eighteen year olds are like. Why do i look forward to. And it's like sorry about south road. I had my own my god. I mean so. Now we got some pictures for the drug den bulletin board yes kathleen rooney go on. Who is one of our original. fourteen listeners. Finally sent her picture. We have literally known this bitch for years. Okay and we're finally going to have her on the board. I'm not sure i knew. She is like a like a chef or sous chef or owned a restaurant or cook or whatever's going on she. She cooks for a living. So what i looked like in college for sure. I thought that was me a little bit. Michael Steele, former RNC chairman: 'Donald Trump is the biggest block to the American Dream'

"Michael steele. Welcome back to the podcast. It would not be election day without you here. I'm going to ask you the same question. I always ask you but instead of at the end of doing it at the beginning. Are you still a republican. Absolutely yes even more. So and why. Because i really appreciated the number of republicans who have served inside the administration who recently left the administration to come out and say that this is not us. This is not what republicanism is is not what conservatism is. They agreed to stand with us in the center of the town square to declare our independence of trumpism and our resiliency in fight against it. And i appreciate that. Because i know it's not easy. It's not an easy thing for them to do. So tells me that there is a vibrancy left inside the party. And i think that we will find more and more of that vibrancy in the weeks and months ahead now. Those means won't be a fight. There will be a fight. Trumpism does not leave his host that easily and we know that i've called for political. Ima and i think the party's gonna need one and very happy to administer it so obviously i ask you that question all the time this time. I've asked the question because you've joined the lincoln project which has become you know a hero to people within the democratic party and certainly a lot of people who don't like the president because it has been unsparing in its criticism to put it lightly. So let's talk about the lincoln project and why you decided to go from. Being part of the establishment of the republican party is a former chairman of the republican national committee to joining an outfit. That's doing everything to defeat the standard bearer of the party right now president trump. It wasn't as hard transition as well may think because if you follow any part of my political career in the dc area you realize establishment was not something you would use to describe me out your very own newspaper and i have had bills battles so for me. It wasn't that big a move. Because i've always argued against a lot of the very things that checked off a lot of the then tea party. Now trump kind of conservatism. Because it's not really borne out of anything anchored to some of the core. Things at the party's articulate. And he says this really annoyed annoyance with the system the way it is and so a lot of us have always come spoken to that and saw how it would ravage. The base in many respects transition was not that hard for me to move off of it but it was made even easier. By the fact i watched how family in different the party was to its own existence. How profoundly indifferent it was to its own value system and how profoundly indifferent it was to the men and women who have served honorably and well from president to the door knocker on a campaign carrying that banner raising high that gop flag only to have it pissed on by donald trump and those who enabled him inside the party so for me that moment joining the pirate ship as we like to call it over at the lincoln project was easy because it was hanging out with kindred spirit who understood what this fight was about. This is more than just. Oh trump trump is bad for america. This was there's a lot of stuff that's going on right now. In america that is bad for america and we wanted to show that and speak to it and the party labels did matters. So a susan collins and lindsey graham. We're going to get just as much of a hit as donald trump or stephen miller. So it's important to understand what this is about and certainly what it is not about it is about first and foremost country has always been that and will always be that. And as i think. Steve smith and read jalen and rick wilson and others have noted when we get beyond this cycle which we hope will will result in the election of joe biden then we will begin to dismantle the deconstruction of the administrative state. That was put in place by steve bannon and and ryan's pre-bus on behalf of this president and maybe bury it in salt the earth with it where it's buried so that we don't have to go down this road again and yet here. We are at a moment where the president still has a fifty fifty shot of being re elected president of the united states. I mean from your vantage point just as a political tactician what would it say to you about where we are as a country and who we are as people if president trump is reelected. And that's the core point. I'm glad you raised because at the end of the day. All of the mac nation politics aside this ultimatum about how people see themselves and how people see their future in how people regard the values and the principles in the ideals of a fledgling nation. We are still a fledgling nation. You considered a great nation of the world who've been around so five six times seven times as long as we have who've weather storms far worse than we weathered but you know we have that hit me yet. Knowing that history we still fall into some of those same troops in most same. Trappings and his does speaker lot. Jonathan about how we see ourselves. We have in some respect be combination of victims and we are so angry at other that we've been project back on cells victimhood meaning while i can't because of them i don't get because of them my son and my children won't because of them. Well okay. let's start with that. That's not what this country about. There's not one slave or immigrant who's come to the shores. Who said that. Well i can't because the native americans

Bloomberg Comes Up Big with $100M Cash Infusion in Florida

"So this was another big story from over the weekend was the announcement by Mike Bloomberg that he's going to spend at least one hundred, million dollars in the state of Florida to help Joe Biden win the state. This Washington Post story says that Bloomberg made the decision last week after seeing those numbers on Florida in seeing that Oh may be Biden's a little underperforming there. It's a little closer than we thought official. Voting starts on September twenty fourth in Florida. So the need to inject real capital in that state quickly is an urgent need. This is Bloomberg Adviser Kevin Cheeky he continues Mike believes that by investing in Florida, it will allow campaign resources in other democratic resources to be used in other states in particular the state of Pennsylvania. So there was always this fear of, Oh, where's Bloomberg's money? He got to speak at the convention, but he's not gonNA fork any over even after he said, he made this promise to keep his campaign employed in put all this money into help be trump. Personally, I was really never worried by didn't didn't really come after Mike to personally at least for too long also because they were both from New York I'm sure trump gave Bloomberg his fair share of grief during the couple of terms that Mike was the mayor of New York. City. You can tell when Bloomberg speaks whenever he goes on TV his ads were also pretty devastating, but you can just feel the vitriol contempt for Donald Trump Mike. Bloomberg is obviously a big money guy. You know he's a billionaire but even he trust Joe Biden more than Donald Trump So that should really be a warning to everyone and as Rick. Wilson always says Mike Bloomberg has more money in his couch cushions than Donald Trump has at all I think alluding to the fact that Donald Donaldson, shady loans, and he's probably not even a billionaire really when you get down to went off topic but thank goodness that is a breath of fresh air some good news for Joe Biden on the money side to with an even better August and by the way, the Biden campaign pointed out that since Calvin Coolidge in nineteen, twenty four, no Republican has won if they don't win Florida. And this year, it really is all about Florida because of trump doesn't get that one he's got to pick up a couple from either Minnesota Wisconsin Michigan Pennsylvania Arizona in those are looking shaky I mean that's really really generous because he's behind in all of them. So He needs Florida to have any chance and that's a little note to yourself if you're watching. On election night tour as the votes come in the days after in the mail. Well, we're GONNA know pretty quickly because Florida starts counting there's early. So we'll know on election night mostly with the vote is going to be. So a Florida starts going Biden were going to be in really good shape. That's when you know. Okay we might have this one.

"From trump comp and Democrats from themselves Rick Wilson. Good Morning. Good morning you used to run campaigns for the Republicans what went through your mind as you heard that Ad. Is it a good ad. Well look I mean th Donald Trump is a guy who presents sort of fantasy image of himself all the time and who presents a sort of of alternate it's set of facts all the time so advertising reflects his disconnection from from the ground. Truth you have been described. I want to get into the ground the truth and and and how he thinks about himself in a moment but you have been described by. Some people is kind of like a spy who came in from the cold. Somebody who is Working for the other side knowing what he knows and bringing the information with him in some sort of Elaborate suitcase there are Democrats. Who might be suspicious? That the guy who who spent decades battling Democrats now wants to help them defeat. Donald Trump Juror. What should be the right way? That party looks at you today. We'll look I am and look if if the thing was this is happening on the other foot I would trust but verify and I think at this point my bone a few days of someone someone who is a conservative critic of Donald Trump If they're not established in the minds of folks now I don't know what else to do I've burned down a multimillion dollar our business. I gave up thirty years of friendships. Relationships You know a history with folks in inside my own party I've had to suffer through Basically now four straight years of death threats to my wife and my children And and it doesn't bother me personally come at me all day long. I'm in the arena But these people are a different breed of cat and their behavior. Haven is so hideous and so threatening constantly that you know Again if people don't think I've been through the through the ringer now to prove that I'm GonNa Oppose Donald. Donald trump no matter what my own ideological priors and preferences would be well. I don't know how how I don't know how to convince him. As the guy who wrote everything trump touches dies is and now running against the devil. You know I'm trying to show Democrats the machine that I helped build. Why would you do that? Why would you put yourself as you say through the ringer because Donald Trump represents an enormous threat? Not only to the idea of America itself but to the world and I don't put to a point went on this one I say that Donald Trump is a corrupt and corrupting figure. He is a corrosive figure and he. He is tearing down Americans institutions. He's tearing down the the the belief in the rule of law. He is rapidly and he will be exonerated by the Senate soon. He will have established a degree of executive power in the United States that the founders would have been utterly shocked by where the President President is unaccountable to the law to Congress and where the president can commit any crime that he chooses as long as he holds office and get away with it that he can that he can have executive discretion to a degree that that detonates the traditional constitutional balance of power our in the US. So these are things that I find As proximate threats to America that go beyond yet whether or what. You're getting the right judges on the bench. And whether or not you're you're you're owning the LIBS and I think these are matters that have to be addressed by hi folks who come campaigns with a cold eyed and bloody minded approach I do not run campaigns or work on campaigns or make TV ads because I want to feel good about them. I want to get to the goal line. I WANNA win. You WanNa win too often. Democrats and by by the way moral victories in politics aren't and so I want to help. The Democrats understand the ways that the Republicans will trick them the ways that trump will trick them and how to avoid these very simple traps. What happened to the party that you supported for all these years the GOP it was eaten from the inside out and there are a couple of factors that that a that obtained one of them is the rise of Fox? It's news in the. US allowed a narrow channel of of of Grievance Mongering Television to convince basically basically about forty percent of the American electorate that George Soros and Hillary Clinton and the evil liberals were all coming to make them stop having Christmas and and have forced gay marriages and Sharia Law and to pick your poison of the week. They always have some sort of you know scary. Oh God the the the the Boogeyman is coming to take away your your your traditional values And that Fox was sort of the the virus that kept spreading and for a long time as conservatives. I thought oh well this is great. We have finally got some. You know way to get our message suggest that punches back but it became less and less of a news organization and more and more into this narrow cast. I angry xenophobic frame that that defined patriotism as you know white middle class midwestern one in America has always been a proposition nation. It's always been a place. Where if you came here from from Nepal or if you came? I'm here from Belgium. Or if you came here from Brazil you had an opportunity to become an American and there is a kind of definitional nature. shorted to the the emergent Republican Party. That is very much unwelcoming to people from other countries and very much And it will redound back eventually to you know Americans are. Are you know white midwestern middle class. Do you still consider yourself Republican You know there's no Republican Party Per Se sure there is. I mean look. It's trump's Republican party. It is a look. I'm a AH I may trench anthropologist of the GOP. I've been around it for more than half of my adult life. In fact I was raised in it as a kid. So Oh what existed as a Republican Party it would be like if if someone bought the rights to the Ed Soul Car Company now and put out edsels. They're not insoles. They have the same nameplate but they're not the same thing. How do people in the pilot people in the party? Now you talked about what's going to happen in the house when it comes to impeachment in the Senate how our our people in the party reacting to what you say when you say that there is no Republican Party or the Party has sold sold down the river just to win. Well look they. They point two two things they say. Well trump's giving US executive orders that we like and we're we're doing this and that with executive orders because legislatively trump is a disaster astor and they know it He hasn't accomplished any of the promises that he set out to. There's no border wall. It's a fence that falls down. There's no repeal of obamacare. That's still allow there in the in the wild And the spending he is engaged in Makes makes as I like to joke. You know. He's spending like drunken socialist sailors. It's a combination of of deficit. Spending unfunded tax cuts that are coming due in about a year And and at a massive amount of continued borrowing from the Federal Reserve. So the economy's on this sugar high but they point to the economy of the stock market's up and it's great. Well you know anybody. Anybody can go on a credit card bench. Call me crazy but when I entered politics conservative economic sky. I was kind of convinced that that fiscal school probity was part of the package but no longer And they and they point to judges which you know Mitch McConnell and literally Oh the Federal Society have have put through about one hundred and fifty plus judges at this point seven of changes. Yeah they're conservative judges for the Federal Bench. And that's and that's all fine and good But I have a sense of caution about what I call judicial fetishism which the left us to engage in this country and they added long successful run of getting you know fairly liberal judges on the court from the seventies to the nineties and they were they thought of the Courts as their sort of you know final arbiter of policies. They couldn't pass in Congress or couldn't get through the presidency. I am cautious about judicial fetishism. Because again again as a conservative I was. I want judges who will rule on fundamental constitutional merit and rule on the law not interpreting the law as for my ideological priors. I mean and that there's there are a few holy grail items that conservatives want out of the Judges Roe v V Wade Roe V. Wade is the biggest and and you know just as just as from from a purely sort of conservative libertarian ish perspective The idea that government is going to allow something is different than the idea that government is going to forbid something saying they're looking for a ban judicially established on abortion. I think there are there and while I am pro-life life well I am quite pro-life. I am always cautious about deploying the power of the state In the in the individual Joel lives of of citizens. What you'd like to what you'd like to deployed is your inside knowledge in terms of how to defeat if not the party then certainly the president you would think if you stand ANPAC from a distance and and listened to everything that you've just said you would think that the Democrats are ripe to win this election? What are the the the? They're absolutely poised to lose it. I was GonNa say what are the big mistakes. They're making this surly on in the camp. Well there's there are several big mistakes and the the fundamental predicates of of this book like a lot of things. Campaigns pains are are simple but hard and the first pillar of of this is. You've got to make this race it's a referendum on Donald Trump. This not about policy. It is not about health care or climate change or guns or anything else that makes up. The Democratic Party is sort of policy wishlist. None of it doesn't none of it matters on the best day ever talking about policy is is is a chance for for Republican ad guys and Republican message guys that still surround trump. He's a lot of competent people in the campaign apparatus they're not all boobs and and these Weirdos just like he has in the White House if you don't make it a referendum on trump you will lose you will not motivate your base you will allow the Republicans to caricature you as has crazy left wing socialist in insane people and you will give them the tools to cut off your head. The second mistake they're making is that.

Parnas attorney asks William Barr to recuse himself from investigation

"The attorney general in on whatever was going on there in the Ukraine I have never spoken to attorney general bar. You're about this investigation ever. I have been circumspect. Careful exceedingly careful. Not only that Parnasse knows that. I told a several times that I would make sure I would never go to the attorney general with it so I wouldn't compromise it. That's really on Fox News tonight making his own case while his has indicted one time. Buddy is doing the same Lev Parnassus attorney today requested that. Attorney General William Bar recused himself take himself out of the federal campaign finance case against Parnis. He's also calling for the appointment of a special prosecutor. Claiming prosecutors have refused to meet with him and receive receive information on the president. Giuliani and the other significant players here is a reminder of what parnes told Rachel Matto about the role all that Bill Barr played. Do you know if Mr Giuliani was ever in contact with Mr Bar specifically about the fact that he was trying to get Ukraine to announce these investigation into Joe Biden. Absolutely Mr Bar knew about that. Mr Bar known everything. The difference between white trump so powerful now. He wasn't as powerful in sixteen seventeen. He became the powerful when he got William Bar. That gets your attention as they say and with us for more tonight Maya wildly former assistant. US Attorney for the Southern District of New York now with the new school here in New York. And Rick Wilson Longtime Republican strategists co-founder of the Lincoln Project A SUPERPAC created created by conservatives with the aim of defeating trump and trump ISM. His new book goes a long way toward that very ideal running against the devil. A plot to save America got from trump and Democrats from themselves. We welcome you both tonight. Maya Wiley in normal times would love to have a lock accenture. Deal with the Fed's New York. Would there be an investigation. Launched as in. Do you hear what this guy is saying about people at the highest levels of of our government. That's a hard question to answer quite honestly Brian. And here's what I mean by that. I don't think there's any question that William Bar has earned earned himself and impeachment inquiry. So that's clear and that starts from his misrepresenting the muller pro report before. It's it's released knowing that Robert Mueller have some issues with the way he's handling it that goes to the fact that he himself has personally flown around the globe helping helping to kind of try to stir up some of the dirt that Donald Trump wants all kinds of reasons that we could list about. Why William Barr himself deserves some scrutiny? In some oversight that's very different from saying in in different world where Donald Trump was not president accident love. parnassus would be would have some kind of cooperation agreement. Or where William Sorry was not attorney general and that's because we just don't know enough about all all the evidence that the US Attorney's office has if your in the US Attorney's office and someone just doesn't have anything to offer you if they cooperate great. Meaning you don't believe they're telling the truth or you have so much evidence that you don't believe they can add to the evidence that you have or both you would have a legitimate reason not to enter into a cooperation agreement with someone and left Parnasse. We should remember eleventh. PARNIS is has some of his assertions and the Rachel maddow interview have documents. Those are documents the. US Attorney's office had and enabled him to share their other allegations allegations that he makes that. He says he believes but he doesn't necessarily offer any directed specific knowledge to suggest just that he could offer anything more substantive so. I think we have to separate out whether there's huge issues of public trust with William Bar and there's it's a question about whether I think the. US Attorney for the Southern District. Berman should cues with regard to Rudy Giuliani because he is the one who recommended Rudy Giuliani for US attorney spot with Donald Trump and appearance of conflict or appearance of impropriety. It is enough to recuse because we have to have the public believing in the institutions. But I don't want to go so far as to say that just by definition because left Parnassus is saying. He should have a cooperation agreement. He should have a cooperation agreement. Rick Wilson at a more basic societal level. When you think about it ah in the last seven to ten days we have come to know a landscaper from Connecticut? Who pardoned the double negative left? Parnis said he has never never seen him not drunk and now the European guy in the Maga- hat with a Belgian ip address. How is it that we we come to meet these characters? Surrounding in the orbit of the President of the United States there are some mystical gravitational force surrounding Donald Trump that attracts the worst griff tres scales scumbags roadside hobos incipient serial killers weirdos. These guys are attracted to him. Because they're like the d the D and E and F level operatives in this world and for whatever reason they feel empowered and it's pretty easy you show up at the trump hotel if you can afford the twenty two dollar cocktails. You're in the club. And so that's why we see guys like hide showing up and that's why you see all these all these other sort of oddball characters always surrounding trump and and and it's also because you know most of the people that that are in this rudy PARNIS orbit in particular. You know they come out of this eastern European whatever version of of of Hustle. Oh they're running is always inflected with whatever the sort of post-soviet corruption vibe and it seems to be very much definitional additional trump's orbit rick starting with you I want you and my answer the same question and I hate that. It's an a negative vein about the impeachment in trial. What are you girding for or resigned to girding for Mitch McConnell to choke this thing out as quickly as he can? There's no other option for McConnell right now if the dam breaks on any vote and the reason he didn't go for an immediate dismissal. Vote obviously as everyone else's covered was that he knows was if he loses one. It shakes the idea that he can control this process completely. So he's going to be very careful. He's going to move as quickly as he possibly can. He's going to try to make this as Dulles he can. Which I think is why as as clean with chain you earlier? He thought he thought he's GonNa win. By moving into the night. I think there's enormous public interest in this but on the optimistic side there will always be more information coming and these senators are not blind to the fact that trump lies to them all the time and that every time. They think they've gotten to the bottom of something with trump. There's worse things below it so I think you're going to see some skepticism building especially as the outside outside coverage continues to roll on in terms of both the story and the other revelations about Ukraine situation I can offer you my upwards of thirty seconds before I have to take our first break. I agree with

"Are afraid of donald trump. Right they still think he is a animated piece of excrement they do not love this guy they are afraid of him and the few of us who are willing to call bs on him speak openly and speak publicly stand against him. You know we may be the last priest Riests of dying religion but we're going to try to uphold it as long as we can. He has broken the Republican Party. It doesn't believe in anything fiscal discipline out the window. Limiting eating the size of government out the window all these things that he these guys all said were vital to them. It followed the constitution. Ted Cruz used to set himself on fire. If you didn't follow the Constitution Susan and now he's like whatev. It doesn't matter at all to them anymore and so they have let themselves be so debased and so utterly uncompromised that they think we're the aliens they think we're the outliers they think we're the wrong ones but I'm sorry you gotta call it like it really is and they have given themselves over to a cult. It's interesting that you say this because I do appreciate that you have not switched sides or anything. You know it's not like you've gone like no. I'm now a democrat. You're saying look. I'm still conservative. I don't think Donald Trump represents our values. This book is interesting because you say running against the devil plots to save America from trump. Interestingly enough you say and Democrats from themselves so then tell me what that means. What advice do you think you could possibly give Democrats? Even though you wouldn't exist in a world where you would normally vote for them so for thirty years me guys like me built a very smart very sophisticated system to wreck the hell out of Democratic candidates and we did it all over the country until donald trump came along long. There was a period of about twenty years where we took almost two thousand seats away from the Democrats across the country in state legislatures Congress in the Senate. We took over control of thirty eight state governments and legislatures over that time. We did it by being better at the root politics at politics. We did it by being willing to do things that were very very tough by running ads. That were very tough and made people will lose their minds right and we did it by running. Candidates fit with their states and districts. So I hope to like the Republican Government Vermont Four Times that is not an easy task but our guy wasn't a perfect Republican. He wasn't a super hard right evangelical southerner he he was a guy who fit Vermont and it worked and the Democrats tend to have this thing of ideological homogeneous nece. They want everybody to be the same policy perspective. Whether oh you're in San Francisco or whether you're in Virginia or the or an Alabama and so we were able to put candidates out there who were not. They didn't fit every single ideological school test lights. But we won a lot of seats that way. So are you saying if I'm understanding correctly are you then saying that. Republicans have always played to win. Yeah now and Democrats play to be rights. Democrats played a winning argument. I played a winning election. I don't care how good to the finish line except for breaking the law and occasionally you get breaking the law adjacent but I wanNA make sure that you get to the goal line and sometimes that means not saying what's on your mind sometimes that means saying. Oh well look doc are polling tells us Medicare for all scares the crap out of suburban women. But let's talk about Medicare for all because. Why would we need suburban women? This is the Democrats fall into these traps that they built for themselves selves. So then how would you how would you how would you. What would what would you say? Democrats are night where you go like these people are running and at some point one of them is going to be shared with Donald Trump. At some point. They're going to have to try to fight for those one hundred thousand votes. That swung the Electoral College. We've seen that. It's not a numbers game. It's an electoral college. Absolutely how would you then say with one of those people title. Hey this is how you can win while still maintaining your democratic venues right first off win the game before you try to start declaring victory conditions and start saying I'm going to X Y and Z. Ideological promises are a trap. When you promise people something and build a plan policy in modern campaigns that's an invitation nation for me to put my nerds to work and look at your six hundred page healthcare plan and fined ten things that scare the crap out of people and then I make ads about them? And then you run for the hills and you'll no you don't understand why people suddenly can't can't they say things to you that you know aren't quite true about your reis and deeper in the weeds with the three things. A Democrat has to do in this election that define where the fight is the electoral college with you. Love it or hate. It is the only game in town. That's the only game there is see. You GotTa fight in Wisconsin and Florida and Pennsylvania and Ohio in Arizona's and a handful of states. The election is over in California. I know how they're going to. I know how Mississippi is GonNa vote. Those things are done. You GotTa fight where the fight that you've got to put the resources resources because they will not have as much money as donald trump unless it's Mike Bloomberg and then he has more money than God. You've got to put it into the states that matter and then you've got target in the states even more finally and they will target the Democrats are smart they will be targeting those suburban women who writes the GOP. They'll be targeting. Those Obama trump voters. uh-huh there'll be targeting those Bernie trump voters. They'll be going after narrow slices because this is a game of small numbers. It's not a game of big numbers. The most important thing though is the ref the election it has to be a referendum on Donald Trump. It's not about policy. It's not about your healthcare plan. Your climate change all those are important and they're lovely but it's a referendum on Donald trump all re elections are reference on the incumbent. So then if if I say we're going to have to wrap up soon but essentially what you're saying sounds really interesting because I I remember seeing this when I observe Donald Trump during the election I said and I mean some people treated me like an idiot for saying that I said on TV. The one advantage is that he's playing TV. Yeah so when he says build a wall all it translates into whatever people wanna hear about immigration. He doesn't give you the specifics about h one visas. He doesn't specifics. About what immigration numbers will policies. He he just gives you ideas that were his whole policy fit on a trucker Hat Yai rights. And you're exactly right because what he did was play player. Reality TV character for fifteen years and Americans thought Oh this guy is smart. Decisive grinded negotiator and so he just kept playing that role. So do you think than Democrats. Maybe even if not now need to get better at playing TV they. This is a reality TV game. They need to be practicing that game. It's not a debating society democratic socialist Wisconsin since it's a reality. TV Show and trump is the master of the game. They have a narrow path to victory. And I hope that this helps them try to achieve that fairly narrow path. I'll tell you this. I wish I could disagree with you but I agree with a lot of what you're saying. Thank you so much for being really.

"That if you came here the magic of this country in the power of our Constitution and our system of laws and our and our welcoming society. We've abandoned that as a party. It's gone now. The basic messages from a shit hole. You're not welcome if you're from Norway and you've got blonde hair and blue allies come on down. The message is if you helped us as a translator or interpreter during the war. Screw you but if if you look like a trump's Aaron wet dream come on over it's an astoundingly overt racial appeal. I know for a fact. It's a dead end but it's got an appeal right now to people who've grown up in this grievance culture that Fox and trump creative yeah I remember looking at if my memory service right George W. Bush got. I think in the High Thirties. Thirty seven thirty seven thirty eight and I remember Romney if you look at his numbers and if he'd gotten to thirty percent would have beaten Obama he got something like twenty seven twenty eight and then trump wins on immigration and is going to run in in two thousand and twenty on building the wall and Immigration and here come the caravans I've let the listeners know. Shrugging my shoulders here. I eh even know how to formulate the question. He's caught in a bit of advice on the one hand. He's got this this demo at his base that that have discovered that anti immigration sentiment is a great way to disguise an awful lot of them are actual God damn racists. It's a great way to discuss it. Because the fundamental thing is the they coming over the border are not like us and they can never be us because there's a genetic or racial she'll difference with them to us and we've got to preserve the white race again. This is primarily these sixty plus high school educated males now. The problem for the Democrats is an awful lot of those guys are union voters in dying rust belt states in Pennsylvania. Ohio Wisconsin Michigan Iowa Minnesota and those guys for years Republicans like me help steal them away day and we hope still them away by doing things like being the tough party on foreign powers on terrorism. We were the tough guys. The the Democrats are going to sell out to the commies in the terrorists. We did it on guns. We did it on the things that have upset and troubled these guys for a long time. The changing economy and so trump has a narrow base that requires more and more they have to chase the dragon all the time on this. They have to give them more and more lurid conspiracies more more crazy promises and more and more evil characters to blame because now it's not good enough that there's random Still casting noise of people coming over the border it has to be caravans and then the care of its have to be. Ms Thirteen Caravans. And then they have to be Mr Caravans carrying a bowl la and then they have to be carrying airing terrorists all the drama and all the the reading with these people. There's a dopamine fix those folks get from this and the downside of it is is for trump. A lot of other people find repulsive a lot of those suburban women we talked about earlier find repulsive and rightly so so you write everything. Trump touches dies. I want to ask you how far that extends particularly to places one is legal and one is political whole. Does that mean that the office of the presidency. The norms of the office of the presidency in our understanding of executive power in the executive branch ranch is dying will die and will be forever changed and does that extend to the Party and the party be saved or as one of your fellow fellow. Lincoln project founders said. Does it need to be burned to the ground. Well first let me answer the executive power question because I'm old enough to remember when Republicans pulled their hair out when Brooke Obama used executive orders. It was an unconstitutional affront. It was pure evil. That was King Obama. The first it was all this drama. I'm old enough to remember state's rights and and because of that there are two two potential outcomes one. Is you end up with trump creating so much power than the second term he continues to abuse it in so many ways and we basically basically ended up and I don't mean to put to find a point on this with trump dynasty. Were they will abuse as much power as they need in that office to continue to hold that office the second outcome which Republicans can't seem to get their head around. Is that some day a a president. OCASIO Cortez sits down and says well the things they've done were so evil and so wrong and so bad for so long and I know that that we should probably have votes about this in Congress. But I've got to fix this and I've got to use executive power and when when the shoe is on firmly on the other foot I predict my former party members will lose their damn minds but the abuse of power as Jenny Holzer once said comes as no surprise. And it's tempting. It's a temptation that's hard for anybody to resist. And if you're a Democratic president down the line don't you think to yourself well as long as I can hold my people the Senate screw them. I'm GonNa do what I want it. Power is very tempting that way and I I fear for the country in either of those two directions so I hope you'll take this in a positive way as one hack to another The problem is not going to be solved by Hacks I think you can be be directionally. Important Gimme two three four as many you can think of names of Republicans who you think can lead you back to the promise. Land people that maybe do. We don't know about you know what there's a there's a kid in Texas name Heath Mayo out of nowhere did founded this principles. I don't have a damn dime but he just said I can't do this. I can't live my life this way. I can't call myself a conservative and engage in things that are statist. This just kidding. Benny Belvedere runs a Republican climate. Change Group and cares about the environment cares about the natural world. And it's the least popular popular. Damn thing you can do right now. There's no traction to it at all terms of the Republican Party itself but there are not a lot of heroes in this in this thing right now and and they're not a lot of people elected who have found that moment where their courage could overcome the terror her of trump and his base and where their fear of losing office was less than their fear of losing their country to see anyone in the Senate right now that has any promise. Hope Springs Eternal For Mitt Romney who should recognize the great power. He holds in his hands. But he's such a modest character in so many ways they don't think he'd he does but the Senate right now has become a profoundly disappointing experience because they're the ones who supposedly were the holders of this vast institutional power and this vast institutional dignity and Mitch McConnell wants to hold his majority and we'll do whatever it takes to keep donald trump sending out those emails to. Let's keep his people in money. So you're the general consultant political guru for Cory Gardner and now you've got to answer honestly sure what's your strategy for getting reacted embrace trump or pushed trump away with trump. Away it's Denver and boulder suburbs sixty five percent of the vote in Colorado GonNa come out of those suburb suburbs and those are the suburbs that in twelve fourteen and sixteen consistently moving toward Democrats. There's there's not enough red hat. bubba vote in in outside of those areas if the Democrat rolls it up especially Hickenlooper if he rolls it up he doesn't have to play much outside of the the eleven counties that surround those two Metros to win so how would you. How would you tell him to vote on impeachment? I'm I told to vote in favor of impeachment and but I would or on trial right but I would tell but I think the first thing I would tell them to do is to have a shit fit about the trial to go out there and say I want to support this president but I must as a as an American citizen as a senator. See All the evidence it has been withheld from us. And that's not fair to you Mr President and then when the trump people say to yourself then he says okay I have to do it. Sorry Look Martha mcsally Susan Collins. None of these people are looking at the register states anymore. I mean look even Joni irks I eat at Thom Tillis even thom Tillis and Thom Tillis had better keep his. I very closely on the numbers of Hispanic voters in North North Carolina. Because that number is changing by the minute and they are becoming a powerful force including out in western North Carolina and talk more Davis Davis Day. He's running against Mark Meadows urine tough Republican district. But Man. There's a whole lot of Hispanics in that district now a whole lot. What and being able to to turn those folks up and turn those folks out could be a game changer? But Look Corey situation in Colorado man. It's tough he's a good candidate. I will give this. He's got hustle. He works hard but he's also been very fortunate the last couple of times and he's going to need need to have something to bring people in Colorado. That isn't like I'm GonNa try to do an infrastructure bill because they're going to care about this care about trump and they're going to see him and a thick and looper smart. The Democrats are smart. They will be pounding corey hard on a whole spectrum of things about trump that play in Colorado auto including immigration. So you said if the Democrats are smart in Colorado who gives us what you can on your new book that Second Emma coming out soon. How do the Democrats beat trump part of the Democrats need to do and there are two gigantic lessons and look part of this? This book is to give them another indictment of trump and I if everything trump touches dies was tough on trump this is scorched earth nuclear fire into a pool of acid than some lava lava. Go on top of it. The second part of it is the two big fundamental rules I is this election is over in thirty five states. We know California's all for new GonNa vote. We know Massachusetts vote. I Know Alabama and Mississippi are gonNA vote. I know Texas is GonNa vote and those aren't stretch. Tate's we know that thirty five states. There are fifteen states that are in the general pool and maybe six of those that really are going to be where the race gets decided hunt. Where the game is fight where the fight is? If I see the Democratic nominee doing rallies and California they deserve to be slapped upside the head for malpractice. If they're doing anything except raising money in California New York or Massachusetts they're out of their damn minds they. They need to be playing in the suburbs in the swing states. They need to be spending all day. Every day and Pennsylvania and Ohio and Michigan and in Wisconsin and Minnesota and North Carolina and Virginia. which by the way is trending blue very swiftly? But it ain't done yet it ain't over yet they. They need to play in that place. They need to play in Arizona. They need to get out there and they need to play in my home state of Florida. which is the the Earth Swing state the ultimate price twenty nine Electoral Electoral College? which is the big fish in the whole game and Democrats have a terrible problem in Florida? It's that the Republican Party there which I am proud at the time. I was proud to help build it..

"Welcome to words matter with Katie. Barlow and Joe Lockhart welcome to words matter. I'm Katie Barlow. Our goal is to promote objective reality as a wise man once said had everyone is entitled to their own opinion not their own facts. Words have power and words have consequences. Our guest today is a political strategist media consultant and bestselling author based in Florida who who has produced political commercials for governors. US Senate candidates and super PACs. Rick Wilson has written for the daily beast politico the New York Daily News Medium and is the author of the New York Times Bestseller. Everything trump touches dies his next book running against the devil level. A plot to save America from trump and Democrats from themselves will be published on January fourteenth twenty twenty he is also one of the founders of the Lincoln Project a super PAC that quote will be dedicated to defeating president trump and trumpism at the ballot box and to elect those patriots kids who will hold the line. Rick Wilson. Welcome to words matter. Thank you so much for having me now before we get to your last book or your next book or even impeachment. Let's talk about the Lincoln Project. What is it who is involved and without giving away the secret sauce? Here tell us as much as you can of the strategy for achieving its goal. There's nothing more dangerous in politics than people who will put country before party. And who knew all the tricks and and between Steve Schmidt John Weaver Myself regaling and the other folks that are involved in this project. We have been to the Rodeo a few times in American politics and all of thus have a principled conservative opposition Donald Trump and all of us have a deep concern that if people don't stand up and not Donald Trump to account but hold the party that has devoted itself now to enabling him as almost its entire mission to account. Then we're GONNA slip into something that doesn't resemble America we're going to have a country that becomes essentially With one party in service to the personality cult around Donald Trump and then the trump dynasty following him and so the Lincoln project was founded to Hark back to some of the more fundamental and profound values that shaped The the conservatism of all the folks that are involved and to reflect on some of the things we have lost as a party in a country and also to bring a skill set together from a bunch of folks who again have been. We have very much into the Rodeo. And while Donald Trump's fans like to imagine he invented politics and that just happened and yesterday the long arc of Republican gains from the essentially from the end of the Bill Clinton era Until trump didn't come because of of you know screaming talk show hosts on Fox and talk radio it came a lot of it because of their smart technical folks like us who went out and did the lifting elect elect folks from Dogcatcher up to present. So we're going to put some of those skills to work this year and we we hope that Donald Trump will not enjoy the results. So who is your target target voter. Well we look. We have a lot of different targets sets in this in this operation. We're not trying to stay in some cliche lane of. Oh we're only gonNA talk to never trumpers. We're going to talk to a lot of different folks. We're GONNA try to motivate Republicans to remember who they should be able to do. The right thing in some places. We're going to try to make sure that that folks who ordinarily feel like they're politically safe in. The era of trump are going to be held to account. We're GONNA make sure that we apply all the tools and the technology and the targeting systems that are are available to a smart modern Super Pac to both disrupting donald trump's reelection prospects and in that regard by the way especially in the vital college dates where a very small number of voters made the difference in two thousand twenty or twenty sixteen gives me and we're going to make a difference again in two thousand twenty we're going to be targeting very tightly and we're going to be looking at how we hold people to account who should be doing their jobs as representatives of their state or their district but who are not so rick there's in this room a lot of rodeos that have been attended so let me give you a sense of what I see a year. Chaz Oh and chas fifty three percent of Republicans say Donald Trump is a better president than Abe Lincoln. How do you beat that? You know there is a certain degree to which the hardest core of trumpism is lost. Those folks aren't Republicans anymore they they are members of a cult. It's option rikio. The Japanese suicide cult. It's David Koresh. They are drinking the KOOL aid. They will never believe that. Donald Trump is not this historic figure of pure perfect light. WHO has come down from heaven? Disservice all is the second coming of the Lord Those folks are never going to change and we're not really trying to talk to those people. There is a vast squishy middle in this country. Still there were a lot of people in sixteen who were soft Republicans and independents especially in the swing states. And as we all know in Wisconsin and Michigan and Pennsylvania and Ohio and Florida. Who Said you you know? I can't stand her. He may be crazy but why not have a little fun with it. Those folks are still in the win now and those folks are actually responsible for the Democrats retaking control the house in eighteen. Because they're disaffected Republicans their independence their softies who you know for a lot of reasons and the the the long history of Hillary Clinton being made into the perfect demon for the Republican Party is one that we could spend a whole show on but those folks had a very long long degree of preprogrammed hate for Hillary and even with trump's flaws like I can't go with her. I just can't do it. They don't have that now so those people will be in the win with those people are moving. They are not hard voters. Look the Republican party still says. Oh It's eighty percent or ninety percent really the numbers a little bit lower than that it. Somewhere in the sixties and seventies is that still very high for any candidate. But it's not a hundred percent is because of the famous shy Tory Effect People WanNa admit their Republicans anymore. They're telling pollsters their independence now so that shrinkage of the Republican party particularly with women poorly educated voters suburban voters presents a very rich target set for us to talk to and twenty twenty. You mentioned Hillary being the perfect demon. So will you be as enthusiastic about the mission whether it's Joe Biden Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Elizabeth Warren as the Democratic nominee. Look there are degrees to which it's easier to make a case on the electoral college map APP for Joe Biden than it is for Bernie Sanders. I'm not even sure we're going to have Elizabeth Warren to worry about at that point. But look we're GONNA in a play that as it lays we're GONNA see how that works out. We are not trying to tell Democrats how to pick their nominee. We're not trying to tell them how to run their campaigns except to do them smarter and better veteran win. We're certainly not trying to give them some lecture on on how to change their ideological take on the world. We're not that's just not our job. Our job is to defeat. Donald Trump. We believe many hands to the Capstan here. Many hands make light loads. And we're GONNA do everything we can to to see to it that Donald Trump is not reelected and and and look the Democrats stuff to do a lot of this work on their own. They stuff to make the left on their own and find the nominee that isn't going to blow out and win six states on the coast of the US and lose everywhere else and that is a challenge right now in terms of some of the chemistry. That's out there in the field. You who have assembled a really high powered group of directors of this. I know from campaigns. I'd done I'd never wanted to see you or Steve or reader or John on on the other side I wanna ask you about two groups of people term and tell me of you think how would you appeal to them. The first is Republican women. Forty forty two percent of people in the CNN. Poll out recently approve of the job. The president's doing excuse me forty two percent of white women white women. How do you appeal? Appeal to them. And secondly evangelical. You've run campaigns where it was completely dependent on getting those people out to vote and they weren't always reliable Republican voters but they become that. What's your appeal? If any to them I think evangelical in the trump demo look the it's always been underestimated about the a number of progressive evangelical out. There it is a meaningful fraction of the of that group but of Republican evangelicals who have decided that trump is their golden calf. And they're going to ride this thing. Because of this ongoing sense of cultural and religious grievance and this imagined persecution although the majority majority or at least a plurality in this country in terms of religious groups. They feel very much as if they're every decision as the apocalypse apocalypse coming to visit upon them and they feel like trump is going to be the only thing to save them. He may be a devil but he's going to be the devil that that that saves them this once so I think hard evangelical Republicans are largely lost. We've tried to talk to them in the past. We tried that in sixteen and you explain to them that Donald trump is a hormone her her and a guy who screws porn stars and pays women for Sex and is a serial adulterer and a liar gambler and runs casinos. If that guy's name was did we miss any of the Ten Commandments. There you know at work. I don't think he actually killed Fred. But you know you never. But he could and we'd be processing right right exactly Arthur Avenue. Especially we've we've seen that they have have reached a very strange moral inflection point. And I don't know that they're reachable and I don't really I don't care all all that much to try to have a theological argument with folks that are stuck on trying to use worldly means to achieve their religious. Just ends in this. I don't think is necessarily going to be electorally productive however I do think there are many people of faith in this country who may have voted for Donald Donald Trump and yet have started to have regrets based on things like Charlottesville based on things like children put in cages Those don't strike strike me and I don I know that a lot of other Christians as particularly meritorious values so we may be talking to some folks about the way that the hand hand trump in governance is not reflective of the best values that they claim to a spouse as for suburban women. I think there are two major sure areas in that. And we're going to dig in much deeper on this thing because look while all of us have various talents. The thing that all of us have been very good about in our careers uses relying on the numbers the data the polling the research the analytics. So we're going to be looking at in these targeted states. How do you talk? What are the groups of suburban urban? We know generically and anecdotally what they're doing but we needed to learn a lot more about where they're going to go in twenty twenty. What motivates them to stand? Stand against trump. What motivates them to stay home? What motivates them to vote democratic? There are a whole spectrum of responses we can get the lead to their correct political outcomes for us but but there will be a lot of study of that and I will say this just generically and thirty thousand foot view one.

Is the GOP more united than ever because of the impeachment probe?

"This irregular channel of diplomacy. It's not as outlandish as it could be. Is that correct. It's not as outlander says it could be. I might be irregular but it certainly not outlandish. There's a phrase that pays. That was one argument. The Republican Council tried to make in that effort to defend the president from impeachment. You can judge its effectiveness for yourself with US tonight to talk about all things. Political veteran journalist Jason Johnson politics editor at the root and Rick Wilson Republican what can strategist soon to be following up on his first book. Everything trump touches dies with his new work running against the devil due out in early. Twenty Twenty Gentlemen. Welcome to you both Rick. The president said tonight Republicans have never been more united. Is that what you saw watching the hearing yesterday. Look I think what I saw watching here. Yesterday was Republicans who were in a state of of edgy panic and they were trying to talk faster and louder in hopes of trying to pass the fact that those two witnesses stood on the sat there and laid out a timeline a calendar additional facts additional witnesses. This is this was not a good day for those folks and no matter how many times Jimbo baggins gets up there and dances around like a crazy little leprechaun. It's not gonNA shake the the fact that the facts are against Donald Trump and the and the timeline is donald trump at the witnesses against donald trump. And this that was day one. They had a bad day on day want. I don't think it's going to get much better as we go forward. Jason the Democrats we with day one in the books we have learned. They can schedule witnesses and conduct question tonight. Yes when will you have confirmation that they evan deed found the right messaging that with all we have lived through with muller color. Four hundred plus pages. This is the story to tell this story. People can understand because at the heart of it is a phone. So this is we're gonNA find over the next couple of days if Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are joe torry if they're good managers if they can set up the lineup properly with the witnesses and I think they did a good job. Look this first day you had two people who as you said. They set the time line. They were very clear. They weren't fuss flustered. They didn't allow Jim Jordan or anybody else to ask them any sort of strange questions that got them off the line And I think the Republicans they weren't unified didn't seem to have a coherent strategy other than do you follow all the conspiracy theories that we know about on read it so I think the Democrats effective very very good job. This is GonNa be a knockout punch situation. That's not what's going to happen. What they need to do is not screw up? Lay out the story because the American public already seems to be in favor of impeachment. They just don't WanNa blow that sort of enthusiasm but let me follow up on that. Do you think this hearsay line of argument is catching on and do you think it has has a time limit on. I don't think here's a works because you've got too many people talking about the same story right. It doesn't look everybody out there who's watching this. The people who are at home my grandmother grandparents everything else like that. They've watch law and order they different sweet hearsay in seems like a credible witness and these people come across as credible until someone blows up until someone someone has that Sam Watterson moment where they get angry on the stage. Everyone watching this right now is when they say well. These people seem credible. We've been hearing about the story. And so far. The Republicans haven't given there's an alternative story to think that this impeachment doesn't make sense and that's really the weakness I saw on Tuesday. Rick I have something for you. This is Nikki Haley tonight on CNN on the topic. Uh of Rudy Giuliani. Was it appropriate based on everything you experience in the world of diplomacy for Rudy Giuliani. The president's personal crystal lawyer someone who had no security clearances to be engaged in what's being described as the shadow diplomacy. I had during my time at the United. The nation's I never saw rudy engaged in that way it is best practice if you have a special envoy to handle certain areas and we do that all the time yeah I think they should've named him the special envoy so that everyone within the administration knew what his role was so instead of former mayor. Of New York's special l'envoi envoy Rudy. Giuliani Rick is that the rosiest possible. Reading of the situation Rudy is in question to what is going on. Do you think was Nikki Haley. I think Nikki's missing one of those profound rules in life. The rats are supposed to jump off of the sinking ship rather than on the a sinking ship. And so tonight. She gambled more credibility away by essentially essentially putting your arms around Rudy Giuliani. A guy who is already being dragged out behind the barn. Because they're done with him. The trump people are trying to cut in loose. The Republicans in Congress are going to try to blame this whole thing. Hang on Rudy when it comes down to it. That's their last-ditch scenario and so now she's basically praising Rudy at a moment where his stock has fallen so far with trump personally with with the trump world that it's only a matter of time before he was just a coffee boy volunteer. We barely knew him rudy. Who Jason Ivanovich tomorrow? Tomorrow give us a bit of a preview. We tried to point out the top of the broadcast. We recall ambassadors all the time. Rarely do they say they feel threatened in their personal lives. Rarely does one of the locals say to them. Watch your back when when she's saying I felt threatened. I don't even know why the president was talking about. I mean this is going to be the emotional punch. Got The story I. Now we're hearing people felt threatened. People feel concerned people in the country in the Ukraine. Were like we don't even know what's going on. What's it's dangerous here? And this is where Raju Liani and all these other individuals come into play. It doesn't matter if he was named special envoy. You don't put your ankle breaker on staff right soon. Everyone knew that trump had a lot of people operating in these sort of irregular channels and she speaks to how those irregular channels made regular long-term service. People feel uncomfortable. No and that's going to be the story that Americans take with them over the

Trump can’t win in 2020. But Democrats can lose.

"Our next guest says Donald Trump can't win reelection but the Democrats kratz shirt can lose it so over the weekend some of the President's Republican allies in Congress. There are many wasted no time defending him as pressure builds now over over this impeachment inquiry. I think this whole thing is a sham. I can't believe we're talking about impeaching the president based on an accusation based on hearsay. Look Look Democrats wanted to impeach because Rudy Giuliani talked to a couple of Ukrainians and good luck with that. What do you make of this exchange. Presidents Alinsky says we are almost ready to buy Roy Moore from the United States for defense purposes and president trump replies. I would like you to do us a favor though you just added another word no favor though yesterday in the transcript so that's kind of how that went and with us us for more tonight is Rick Wilson Longtime Florida Man Longtime Republican strategist who is soon following up on his first book. Everything trump touches dies with a new Work Ryan against the devil which is due out in early twenty twenty. It is a thrill to have you as always thank you sir so tonight. I am reminded Sean Spicer danced to Saturday night fever on dancing with the stars and Sebastian Gorka is on board a US government plane with our secretary three of state going to Europe. We saw that selection of trump allies. There's a whole population the people in Washington who think this might be ballgame here. There are a lot of very nervous folks right now and they're thinking that they've tried to hide in the tall grass for a long time they play the Magi game when they have to and they quietly whispered reporters. I'm really concerned. My Brow is furrowed. I'm deeply deeply troubled and they understand that there's a point where you can't can't just keep pretending and we're rapidly reaching the point where you can't just keep pretending and you know what was bill bar doing in Italy. Why are they making. These phone calls to Australia. We want more the details about Ukraine Gorkhas probably in Europe pitching fish oil tablets or whatever it is he does for a living now but these guys are all of the peace there this flotsam watson around trump so many involved in this and I hope they're all tonight pondering second mortgages so they can lawyer up. Can you imagine what it feels like for the Aussies as a lover and appreciator of history there we were side by side on the beaches of Normandy what we want from them now a little information so help us help us blackmail a competitor in a political election the US they're trying to extort foreign powers by using the Awesome Awesome Majesty of the President's Office and the powers of the United States government trying to extreme. It's just it's the lowest level thug behavior. I have a dramatic reading from the twitter account of Jonathan Martin with New York Times. It's about politics and you're political party. The squeeze is on Republicans left in high income congressional districts and states here is college plus Weitz. I just love how demographers instantly reduce entire groups of Americans against forty six percent already for impeach and remove fifty two percent for the inquiry fifty-seven percent believe trump thinks he's above the law just one percent percent fewer believe he abuses the power of his office fifty one percent believe he's committed crimes as president so you start thinking wow the Republicans should be very nervous us then. I look at Rick Wilson. Down and trump can't win reelection but the Democrats can certainly lose it. It's an old problem explain. The Democrats crafts have a great gift for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory unless they have generational candidates who are who are who have phenomenal skills they had to in our lifetime they had Barack Obama and they had Bill Clinton who are both naturally gifted political figures. They understand how to connect with people. They have charisma for days. None none of the current field reaches that level of performance and I think the danger that I've seen coming at the at the Democratic Party for a long time. Now is a lot of them. I'm still believe that this is going to be a referendum about policy. Selections a referendum as all presidents relations are about trump. They are all referendum. All the referendum referendum thought in this election is going to be trump or not trump ex future or wife future. If you want is trump's kicking you in the face until all eternity well well then re elect Donald Trump. If you want to argue about policy your re-electing Donald Trump it's you've got trump hands them right now the opportunity to go after him as a man who is corrupt corrupt who was ineffective and who was who has led this country into a place where the reputation of our president as as as an extortionist and a mercenary when our president tosses tosses out a reference to a civil war right. I think that that is again. This is a way to make a referendum on this man what kind the president in this country other than the unless he's Got Jefferson Davis fantasies wants to go out and have their reputation. Be You know re tweeting and praising somebody nobody who who's threatening a civil war if he doesn't get to operate above the law if he doesn't get to be unaccountable in every way and that this is the kind of thing that trumpism has normalized in our country and it's a great danger. Brian Jeff Flake Consensus Hall of fame furrowed Brow Hall of fame member Concern Concern Face Hall of fame member says to his fellow Republicans is there still time to save your souls others remember flake like as the guy who saved cavanaugh right before skipping town not the best guy to make that argument look I would prefer and there it will be a tremendous first-mover advantage for some seated member of the US Senate right now to make that point and to recognize that Donald Trump will drag every single one of them under and they will drown and die politically if they don't start breaking away. This is the problem that nine hundred seventy three and seventy four caught us in nineteen seventy-three. The Republicans were lockstep on Nixon. If you go back it was all it's a media conspiracy against the president. It's liberal elites against the president well in one thousand nine hundred eighty four the voters of the United States decided that fifty four forty nine Republicans needed to go home forever and that eight members of the Republican Senate needed to go the home forever. This is a political consequence of a corrupt president who abuses power right now donald trump and the thing about Nixon Nixon was not about money. Nixon was not about Personal Game Nixon was in the game because that was his character trump is venal trump wants political power so he can continue can you to enrich himself and his family and this is a category above even Richard Nixon and that takes a lot of doing Rick Wilson a thank you so much this survey serves a pleasure to have you on our

"Slash friends. Hi, I'm Ana Marie Cox and welcome to with friends like these the show where we talk about the differences between us without letting them divide us. This week's guest is come to symbolize that project. Rick Wilson, former Republican current never Trumper and provocateur he is back after an extended hiatus from this show do some slight previews here. We talk a bit. No. Can we talk a lot about the impending doom that we both feel? We also talk about what you can do about that sense of impending doom. He answers my question about how he wound up voting in the Florida election, but I will do a minor spoiler here until you it wasn't a very satisfying answer. Yeah. I think that'll look in any case Rick is back in he promised. He won't be gone for as long as he was again. Here is Rick Wilson, Rick. It has been a long time. It has been a minute. Yes. And I was going to start off with a joke about how we don't have anything to talk about. But. What time is too short to joke around. I have a long list of things to talk to you about. Then I'm going to go with I kind of insight that only you can offer our listeners, which is are you still talking to Republicans on the hill. I'm still talking to Republicans on the hill. Absolutely. Tell me what is happening. Like explained to me. So a lot fewer guys in the house these days because a lot of the people that I spoke to before either retired or lost because they were the the remaining sane people. So we've got we're now down to the sort of like cleanest and Lurlene caucus in the house for you know, the rest the red state guys on the Senate side. I will tell you insight from a senior Senate staffer that that I got this morning a guy who's who's who's who's boss is up in twenty twenty and it was publicly miserable right now because he is being forced to, you know, live in fear of a primary if he says one word against Trump, or if he says, we've got to stop the shutdown, but their numbers are showing how bad it is the senate's own. Pollster for the Senate caucus is telling them how bad this is. They know this is a losing proposition. They know their clock is running out. And they know they're gonna. Own this in twenty twenty. It's just it's a perfect example of the misery that Donald Trump inflicts on these people because they have no moral courage to get away from it. And I can't think of tour words to say. But I guess I'm hoping to get from you like vicariously maybe from talking to people on the hill. My mind is kind of frozen by this like. I like everyone else. I I guess I'm waiting for Tony Romo to explain. What's going to happen next? You know, I mean. We can go down a rabbit hole of metaphors to about missed calls and whatnot. But I really feel like no one really knows how this is going to end. There is no in game. And the thing I keep on thinking to myself is like what the fuck is Trump thinking? And then I really remember he's not thinking like, correct? This is all a you know, an endless sort of spasm of Trump. This look we often ascribed at Trump's some sort of plot or scheme in his head. It's all impulsive, it's all in the moment. It's all how do I, you know, detonate one crisis to get into the next crisis. How do I keep the ball up in the air one more day? How do I how do I keep my ass is on fire? Can I run fast enough to put it out or can I run fast enough where it doesn't hurt? And so everything is always about these short term. It's all to the next tribal council on the survivor or the next moment of table flipping on the housewives. It's always this drama. He wants to create and he's he's getting what he wants in some ways right now. Now, even though it's bad for him. Even though it's bad for the country. Even though it's bad for his party. He's getting what he wants. He doesn't wanna talk about Robert Muller and Rudy Giuliani. Going completely Bonker palooza off the rails. He wants to talk about Nancy Pelosi won't let him speak in the house of representatives. He wants to talk about the Covington kids he wants to talk about anything..

"There's a bigger, never Trump movement out there. There's just a huge courage deficit in this country, and we've got a lot of profiles in Washington and these guys that call you and call me all the time and say, oh my God, I can't believe I just had to stand behind that at sorry at who had an event. Well, there are you saying that on TV drawn to us. Hi, I'm Ana, Marie? Cox and welcome to with friends like these. The show where we talk about the differences between us without letting them divide us this week is a return to listener questions. Those are questions submitted by you, the listener to our Email address, which is with friends like pod at g mail dot com. We will be hearing from Alex who has a question about the aftermath of Trump's election in the classroom. That is the second segment, the first segment. Well, Rick Wilson is back. I always kind of bought of Rick. Wilson is someone that I discovered. He's like my never-trumper, but apparently I have to share him with the rest of the world now because his book is coming out, everything Trump touches dies. A Republican strategist gets real about the worst president ever. It's a great read. It's a fun read. It didn't make me bang my head against my desk little. And I'm gonna talk to him about why coming right up Rick Wilson. So I read your book. Okay, I'm glad. And. We're, we have some things to talk about. I'm going to keep this. What I'm saying to you right now in the edit because on hold myself accountable that there's some things I want to talk to you about that are not going to be the most fun things you've ever talked about. But let's start with the fun stuff. I guess my first question for you just about the specifically, is this the book he would have predicted you'd right when if someone told you three years ago, hey, you're going to have a book out. Eighteen. Absolutely not. You know, in two big areas. First off, they know that it would be a bonfire of the inanities about Donald Trump and about how how wrecked my party is become. And the other thing I wouldn't have expected to write was a book where I kind of, you know, did a pretty rigorous self-assessment on a lot of the things we did and I did. And in the terms of of, you know, building up a demographic in this country that was primed and ready for Donald Trump to to kidnap them and run away with them. Yeah. I think that listeners to this program are probably gonna find that part even more satisfying than your many colorful descriptions of Trump's character and physical being. And maybe that's also what I would love to get more of a preview from from you, which is this, did this did prompt some soul-searching and I, you know, we, we knew each other pretty well. And I do feel like I know you well enough that you're not someone that does a whole lot of sober soul-searching, let's say, look, I knew your quick witted and I, I know that you know late at night couple bourbons any. We could probably talk meaning of life. But this gave you a chance to really like do some of that cold sauce over the middle. I wrote this book and yeah, you know what people are the false modesty is the worst kind. It's I'm funny, I'm witty. I'm cutting as hell. You know, I burn down Donald Trump in twenty seven different ways that most people hadn't even thought of..

"Thai it's out of ricomex wasn't tooth friends like these the show where we have some uncomfortable conversations and talk through our differences this week is our monthly checkin with republican raconteur and die hard never trumper rick wilson he is a bomb thrower of sorts himself and we talk some about bombs and nukes and buttons and whose is biggest uh and then continuing in that uplifting trend we're gonna have a conversation with saatchi coal whose writer for buzzfeed she wrote a piece about logan paul who is i will commend you if you do not know the rest of the sentence uh but he is a youtube personality who is in the news this week because of a distasteful video that he posted we'll be talking about that and more in the second segment but coming up first walls so my friend master of the dark arts from what the fuck is happening what's happening right now is your seeing inside of the trumpworld a should show meltdown uh ed that comes from two men with enormous egos finally colliding and as i put it to some of the yesterday this is like two rats in a sack given a tear each other apart and and for bannon the reason the reason bannon's sticking with trump is a purely venal reason he's got to keep the business model breitbart alive and what does that mean that means shoveling out a metric ship ton every day of blue bait for the breitbart audience um and and for the trump audience were those people they need to hear every day that their waging war against a hated mainstream media and the rhinos in the establishment blablabla but you know bannon's clearly uh as this.
