"Actually going to start. Inside the home with the latest results from restoration hardware holdings the fourth quarter capped an absolutely fantastic year for this company profits and revenue were both higher than expected strong demand for the high end furniture and rh management expects revenue for the current quarter to grow significantly and not a surprise that shares of our. Hr up a little bit this morning up a little bit after being up plenty Going into today and things other than a little blip down for just about everything a year ago You know it's it's just been been great. Although so for the for the year of revenues were only eight percent And and basically the stock has doubled from where it was a year ago. Or a little bit. More than you're if you're telling you like charts for exactly a year ago. They all look amazing. So you have to back up to two february to get a fair comparison. There are about double the where they were in february. And it's mostly a margin growth story Rather than you know the top line top line only up eight percent but margins have just improved dramatically. And they're up The gross margins up five hundred and forty basis points and the justed margins up seven hundred fifty basis points that are just making about fifty percent more on every sale and the sales are up a little bit sales. Look like they're going to keep moving up And and i think Warren buffett very happy shareholder having bought into this About a year and a half ago and has done triple his money.
RH Profits With Travel Spending Shifted to High-End Home Decor
"The company formerly known as restoration hardware. Honey Monster second quarter profits much higher than expected strong overall sales. And shares of RH are up more than twenty, two percent today in the stock sitting in all time high. Are you just kind of interesting because a lot of what we're talking about right now is people will look at revenue growth look at dooms growth in the quarter or all of these different companies and are each only increased revenue less than a percent. But the really impressive thing was like you said, Christie increase in their gross margin, they're operating margin and. They're not march and their earnings per share. So I think it's kind of a different look than a different response than we've been seeing a lot for these high growth tech stocks. This is more of a company that showing they have a lot of pricing power and they are growing in a less a way that we haven't seen very a lot recently. Yeah RH is. For anyone who's ever been in the restoration hardware you it's one of those stores you walk in. It's like. Well, it's it's clearly nice stuff. It's quality merchandise. Some of it is exceptionally pricey, but I think this. This probably goes along with the narrative. In the same direction as the narrative that we've seen in the last six months with companies like wayfair and Home Depot and Lowe's where. More people are looking around the homes that they are trapped in and saying all right I'm if I'm not going to go on a vacation I'm gonNA spend money improving this place that I live in. Yeah and that was called out in the share holder letter for this quarter, they talk about the elevated level of spending in the home. So yet the booming real estate activity accelerated shift for moving to your home. A lot of people are leaving the city's moving to the suburbs and then taken homebuilding trying to renovate to make sure their workplace is the best place they can have possible and because you're talking about it, I did spend a good chunk of my morning on the restoration hardware look book website, and I now want to buy a five thousand dollar couch. Well I'll be look I'd like to buy A. New Couch. It costs five thousand dollars in. That's why I'm just gonNa stick with couch that I have. The last check what's on craigslist for one hundred dollars? For the growth that this stock has seen and look, we've seen a lot of stocks you mentioned Zoom Zoom in this category, even with the recent drop over the past week or so Tesla, which started out the year at around eighty five dollars a share is still. Around I don't know this morning before the market opened it was close to three ninety. Restoration hardware is up roughly five times in value. Since late March, I, Know Cherry picking the bottom, but it's a reminder that it's not just the. Sexy tech companies that can have these kinds of returns. where I'm going with this Maria, is that for all of this growth restoration hardware and I can't call it h I'm sorry. This company still seven and a half billion dollar company. This is not huge. Do you think? This is still an acquisition target because it seems like sort of thing in the same way that people have said about wayfair despite wayfair growth. You know someone could still come in and make them an offer. Restoration hardware is. Not a very big company and it appears to be very well run, and as you said, they're really doing good things with their margins. I think it's a possibility. So wayfair is about twenty four, billion dollars right now I? Think it has a niche within the luxury market and that's what in their earnings call. They also talk about how they. Have elevated their shift to a luxury brand with luxury market with luxury margins at a higher pace than they anticipated and so I think that if you're looking to expand into this niche, it would be a really interesting acquisition target for them. They do in their letter also talk about all of their long-term growth plans and some of them are kind of lofty they're planning. To Open hotels, they have a luxury yacht called the h three that is available for charter in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. So they have pretty lofty goals of what they want to be. So I wonder if they don't think they want to be acquired but I think if I was a company looking to grow into that luxury niche, this would be something I'd be considering.

"That is Nick Waterhouse and his band playing pushing too hard, one of the rare cover performances of Nick Waterhouse. So this new album, which is your fourth you recorded at, at this famous old l a recording studio with the great name, electro, vox. Yeah, what's special about it? And why was that just part of the seamless Nick Waterhouse oldness thing, it has a really nice room that is, like, the, the golden ratio for how a live band should sound in an exciting way in my opinion, the thing about that room is, it's kind of like the last golden era Hollywood room where there were tons of, and they're all gone now. And it's a very simple thing. It's like I, I kinda described it as like the carpenters Cup like with the holy grail where you look in and it's not it doesn't look like much. And then you like you just hear the reverberation and you realize you don't have to mess around with very much. So there's this history in this sentimental attachment. But you think it's the real deal you can hear the sound. It's like you know what's the difference between a like real vanillin fake vanilla ice cream? You just know. Yeah. And there's a certain sympathy that's needed for me to do my thing. But my thing is also not like a fetish it's more just like listen. We're going to have twelve people playing at once we need running pre-empts, and we need a running tape machine and it's actually pretty straightforward. And nowadays, there's a lot more production that goes into, like, what would be set up as the antithetical to my work tape machine and you literally mean to tape mission? Yes, it sounds really nice. So the whole recording process making the record is all analog for you. Yeah. We ended up doing we had to bounce some stuff in protocols at the very end. But we cut everything to tape. And that's really, yeah. But that's also. Recording tape you can cut. Yes. It's much easier than you think blade. I know I used to see it done. But, but does that does that slow you down? No makes it faster. That's why I like it. My thing is almost like, I, I don't now recording analogue again is not a fetish, it's not a time machine thing. It's like the difference between deciding to paint and take photos and the texture is what is part of my expression. And when something gets that really great magic, little harmonic distortion that occurs when you record something on tape, and it's all it's multiple sounds being compressed to one place. That's something that like. It's not gonna happen much longer. It's really hard to, to keep doing it that way like the supplies of all the equipment and the people who can run at are running out. So if somebody when you're playing your song before we were talking, and they just let's say to turn on the radio, then and they heard that, and they just absolutely assumed as I believe anyone would unless they happen to know. You sure like oh, that's a song from fifty sixty fifty years ago, or whatever whatever they would think, is that completely fine with you that it is to the typical listener indistinguishable from an old piece of music. Yeah, that's fine with me. Do you know, like I was just given a novel from nineteen Eighty-three as a gift and I'm reading in and I love how I'm just in it. And I'm not thinking of it as nineteen Eighty-three really. Whatever people want to do with my music as product is fine. But I can't control it. So I've, I've released that knowing your audience is made up of I mean, are they people who just like, either your music, or music of the air, that you're so influenced by or the people who also listen to hip hop, and ambient music? Oh, those I definitely have more those. What's funny? Is there is like a global sort of, like ultra vintage retro scene. And I find that most of them, don't like me because I'm not a thin enough to the period. That's funny, because I mean at the end of the day, I'm a singer song, and think you're restoration hardware, rather than the, the thing. Now, they want you to sing a certain type of notes or so out stuff really, I don't really have the chops to impress those types like stitch counters is what, what we. That's what that's what they're called in the, the military reenactment world. Well, it's certainly that world. It's not I think sometimes I disappoint them. But the, the really imaginative ones from the pack. What song will you play as we leave say goodbye? Let's do wherever she goes, she's wanted that feels good. Does she wanted? Some. Some. Come. Never. It is. Russian. He has. Man. Ego. That was Nick Waterhouse and.

So they come around. And they'll do the most is in front of you. It's very fun. Let's do a lot of fun. I don't eat brunch. You don't eat brunch. I think it's just more of like an ambiance thing. Like you go out with friends. I love the concept of it. But you don't actually eat the food. I don't eat at that time anyway because if the of interval eating, but also when we go out, I will do it. I'll turn the clock around. Yeah. And do it for Easter or those kind of. But it kind of wrecks my day, really. It's up to you how things go. The ball is in your court. Okay. We had so much to catch up on besides merch, which I'm still. So just about what else would you want to talk about? I wanted to talk about camp hosts because I'm so excited when we got me to Johnny really coming up and you know, we also we're going to have to make schedule for you guys of the show for the next two weeks because camp is coming up Labor Day weekend and Mercer Shana so moving and Claudius, you gotta prove -partment right in the nicotine time. Oh my God, totally the waited any longer. And you know, it's so annoying. Apparently the board sent me a note to weeks ago just to swap out one of my reference letters and I never got it. So we thought up, we're like, hey, was this approved that? She's like, did you see my note from two weeks ago? So I could have been approved two weeks ago and there would have been so much better for like furniture shopping. I'm so overwhelmed. This apartment is double the size of my apartment, and I'm not really taking. Anything with me for my current apartment and like for, and I went furniture shopping and like I'm here like I'm choking cloudy. I was there and I'm, I feel like you are at least someone who enjoys decor. You watch you chip in Joe and like you have an eye for home decor. And I do not. And I was I was up to here. I feel your pain, but I also think you're more than a quipped you went on, but I'm I fucking there's nothing in this world. I hate more than anything for furniture. There's this strip of just furniture. They've a Macy's Bloomingdale's alad. It's a lot of work. It's like a full day and we went and it was like somewhat successful. It's just like it's not amazing stores. Then to Saturday, we went to the parameter design center. Did you do that was the thing that really center more like a highway, but they had a west elm restoration hardware outlet, even though it's not the same everything just as like a period state on it, and they literally take five dollars off. You buy it with the saints. You buy with that literature. Like shits year, I a skid Mark on a couch and it was still like fifteen grand. I fucking hate restoration hardware. I can't even begin to talk about it. And if I wanted someone tells navy, couch them out like an again, it's cool. It's cool. Okay, ready. I saw an exact copy of Bob's. Okay. Everyone copied said, and all the feedback I've heard is that it's such poor quality and like you said on it for like a month and it's done, I'm fucking done with restauration hardware. So they had a west down their style, like all there, there's a low to the ground me to dressers like I don't get it totally and then from there, but I'm so glad I waited on my God. No, you shall. "Dot com Caitlyn and I, was on the line and need some help restoring old bath tell us what's going on. My husband and I moved into our nineteen seventeen from house about a year ago and, our main bathroom only has that cloth tub and we would like shower? In it so I was wondering if you had any tips on, restoring the, cloth tab and installing A shower kit so you wanna keep the tub right you don't wanna put a separate shower use wanna basically Plum up shower head. Into that correct since. As a cloth with, tob if you disconnect the plumbing kneeing that out of. The house because the best way to refinish. That resurfaced that is to send it out to a company that does that because if you do it in. The house itself they can come in with acids then they can the old finish and they can add a new finish and then they can bring heat lights and bacon on but I've found. That it doesn't work nearly as well as basically sending out to a place to set up to reanalysis tub and then you're, gonna have one that really lasts for long haul and after that installing a shower kit. To that is pretty much a plumbing project lots of places like restoration hardware have kits Were you can find them online where you. Could basically Plum, the pipe that comes up in the arcs over for the shower. Head and you need a circular shower curtain Shower bar above it for curtain and all that's easy. But. The, hard part is getting the. Tub reenacted. Okay and how costly is. Rian Anoling it's probably not as expensive, as by new. And of course you started like we all did with just would fencing but the last decade has really been the decade of vinyl, fencing in that particular industry it's got Of advantages doesn't it well it's come a long way since the first pieces we saw a now it's it's good because you can get stuff especially at the pro, level, that's really heavy fencing, that will really stand up to even Gus a win like. Seventy five miles per hour then kids and dogs and slamming gates while, that good stuff I don't know how it does with a baseball but we'll find out, about that Now there are different levels of vinyl fencing I guess we could probably. Put them in? The budget and the high end sort of category the budget what are you. Giving up when you when you go, for the budget level of. Vinyl fence well it's it's a thinner material it's got a little more spacing in into the detail probably, isn't as good, as the high end you know the fitting together. The parts are not going to be as tight as. The more expensive pro one will be what about yellowing I know that. Tends to be an issue with, certain grades of vinyl fencing is it really the more you spend the less it will yellow they have a process. With his to lay is on it in the outside layer on a, good, fences a titanium oxide and that's the part that keeps it from. Yellowing so? If, offense has that it's it's not gonna yellow the other thing that bothers, me sometimes the shininess drive down the road, you can still see that, Chinese but they've come up with some that almost have a buffet exterior on, them now and it's come a. Long way we're talking to TV's Roger cook from this old. House about vinyl fencing Roger urban installation houses differ, from sort of the standard would Fence install pretty much. The same it's panels and posts that, go in together but some. Of them have post that you have to fill with concrete to make structural especially if it's a gate, you have to, go do extra work on that part of it. But they just snap together the woodwind slide together these. One snapped and what about maintenance any sort of cleaning tips anything you. Have to do it can mildew, get vinyl anything vinyl can get mildew on it but that's simply little Clorox bleach in spray it on and wash. It off and it should take care of it but other than that, it, should be you know what they say vinyl is. Final Roger cook from TV's. This old house thanks so much for. Stopping by the money pit in my pleasure, you can catch the current season of this old house and ask this old house on, PBS for local listings and, a step-by-step video on vinyl fencing and other projects visit this old, house dot com and this old house is brought.
