Laser Communication: How Shorter Wavelengths Means Greater Bandwidth

"Now bringing you stories behind the ideas that shape our future today sending a map of Mars to Earth might take nine years with current radio systems but as little as nine weeks with laser communications. Here's Glen Jackson Payload Manager. For the laser communications relay demo had Nasr's Goddard Space, Flight Center to explain why optical communication systems are more efficient. The wavelength of light is much smaller than the wavelength of radio frequencies and the small the wavelengths, the more information you can condense in a small period of time. So we get. Greater Bandwidth with optical communication as the wavelength get smaller, this technology would allow us to move large amounts of data and high definition video. In shorter amounts of time, we could communicate with rovers or astronauts on Mars, actually seeing and hearing more of their adventures on the Red Planet and laser communication systems on earth could provide high bandwidth in remote areas,

Marijuana in California: How the state's legalization of weed has not destroyed the black market

"For decades, pot farmers have hauled their weed on this winding, remote road. A lot of it grown on family farms like Casey O'Neil's. They've been here since the seventies. He's he has just 45 marijuana plants. He calls them his ladies and their tucked between his rose of vegetables all the canvas in this row Strawberry Valley. Good show. O'Neill, who spent time in jail for cultivating marijuana before it was legal, was one of the first to get a license after Prop 64 past. I grow cannabis because I really love it. I like to consume it. I like to be around it. It's something that Provides my being and consciousness with tremendous love and support. But his being in consciousness is getting strangled by red tape and a laundry list of requirements that don't make sense to growers like weighing marijuana leaves. Which is the part of the plan. You don't smoke and can't get you high. I must take all of the leaf that comes off the plant. I must weigh it. I must record the weight and I must put it in a locked compost facility, so it's just side. Big brother. The worry with believes that it's his hand smoke, believe. Why does it matter? Exactly Then there's the cost of operating legally a major reason, O'Neill says. Farmers he knows have decided to keep growing and selling marijuana illegally. For most people out here, the opportunity to participate does not exist the barriers to entry or too high. Costs are too high. The skill sets are too low. The flip side of it is, people are not going to jail for cannabis. And what's the cost to you? So when you factor in consulting fees You know, I just did a back of the napkin calculation. And over the last 34 years, I'm well over 50,000 into it $50,000 for white permits for permits for consulting $2500 a year for the Waterboard discharge permit. It's $750 a year for the pond permit. It's 1350 application fee to the county, plus another 6 75 when they actually give you the permit annually. Farm, this tiny for the smallest farm that there is, and that's one of the problems. Is that what does that do Your profits? What profits you not make any money right now? So where's the money being made in California? Turns out in the very place legalization was supposed to destroy the black market, which often operates out of storefronts like this in strip malls around the state. Susan listen, shops don't have to pay for state and local permits and conceal marijuana much cheaper because they don't charge customers marijuana taxes, which could reach as high as 45%. So it's cheaper and easier to buy pot on the black market, which is three times larger than the legal one. Unlike other industries, we have this kind of in the shadows unspoken about competitors, right and So it's like it's not like California's fully raging, fully legal really were building to fully regulated state, but we're not. We're certainly not there yet

Red Light Cameras Activated At Lindbergh & 70th Street In Southwest Philadelphia

"Because now the so called speed cameras air up. Here's the danger of progressives with this they use the Roosevelt Boulevard. To start the red light camera movement. Meaning that there are now nine red light cameras there, But there are multiple red light cameras all over the area. Probably more than 20 or so something like that. I get stopped in New Jersey. The idea was we look a dish. You got a highway coming from City Grant and the boulevard? How many years ago? Did they start with the red light camera there and all the nonsense associated with it. Then after that, it spread well, we need more so I tried not to travel to read the Red light camera Bermuda Triangle of the Roosevelt Boulevard. If you're going 56 you're going to get a ticket. Now you've been on the Roosevelt Boulevard. People trying to You know, make time, it said or a 56. I think a lot of people could be doing that. What they do next, though. You'll hear when we need speed cameras over here, too, not just the Roosevelt Boulevard may take a year. Revenue. Revenue Revenue control revenue revenue revenue. There is a red light camera. At Market Street, Really? It's broad street headed south at City Hall in Philadelphia. Market and brought brought a market right there. CITY all if you turn headed south And I've seen so many people that get caught because you think you're going to get through the light. Then there's a jam up there and you got a red light camera tickets. It's outrageous. $100 ticket or it used to be. It might even be more now It's the speed camera. All this nanny state stuff. Go on to the guys. Well, you have to be a maniac to be against this stuff were just protecting. You were making a lot of revenue along the way for other progressive causes, But we're just protecting you. You should never get caught with this. Now You know how often it could happen with weather conditions. Being in a situation with a light. You got somebody on your bumper behind you. You feel you have to go through. It ought to be up to cops to make judgment on this and yet We're living in a city here in Philadelphia, where you see all kinds of illegal, outrageous behavior Go on, and nothing is done about it. It comes back to the same thing with the protesters and all the stuff that we talked about around that. So this idea of speed cameras now let's have them all over the place. I think we have too many cameras already. I get it. The usage in solving crimes occasionally and all that. But how far do we want to go? How much intrusion do you want? How many cameras do you want? Eyeballing you around the clock. That's always what the debate is. It's it's enough already. Speed cameras and always using the Roosevelt

Mexico Caves Reveal Ancient Ochre Mining

"Sometimes, discoveries seem so simple. You know basically we've found a bunch of holes in the ground that's Edward Reinhard he's an archaeologist and geologist at McMaster University in Ontario Canada, but you know ultimately very important holes in the ground reinhard on colleagues believe they've found some of the first clear evidence of mining activity in a system of caves in Kintana ru on the peninsula the fine dates back to between ten and twelve thousand years ago. These are some very early people that have come and migrated to the Americas via the during straight. But getting to what remains of these miners and the tools they laugh is a challenge like cave divers you got to be so careful you don't get lost. These caves systems in Mexico, which were once dry are now completely filled with water. Thanks to a warming climate and sea levels that rose over time winding passageways are narrow and dark, and the walls are made of unforgiving limestone porous and with sharp edges. Reinhard says the water that filled the caves has preserved everything. It's basically almost like you know somebody working at a factory, they turn the lights off and they went away and nobody ever came back when divers started telling reinhard about what they were seeing inside the cave. He decided to go for a dive himself. He found concentrations of charcoal meaning that the people who walked here thousands of years ago probably used fire to light their way and there are stone. Cairns which Reinhardt believes the people built as navigation markers. Also says lots of tools remain and they were made from the stalagmites that hung from the cave ceiling breaking off and then using use hammer. So you can see the percussion marks where they were banging up the you know breaking up the stone on the bottom. The discovery is in the journal Science advances. So what were these ancient people mining and prospecting for there is a little bit of sediment still on the wall of. The pit. So I grabbed a vial and my sampled island, grab some of the sediment and underwater the red light gets attenuated. So Look Kinda Brown I was thinking well, maybe it's ochre you know is thinking about that but it's like well, looks Kinda creepy of that's what it is but then I got got out of the cave into the sunlight and it was just like this spectacular bright bright red. So then I knew. What they were after ochre it's among the earliest known pigments employed by humans and it's got many uses for sunscreen to preserve animal skins and burials and ceremonies, and people still use it even today in artwork. It was you know it's a prominent in used Gio material if you will through time for your end and dates data usage for thousands of years prior to around the world.

"It is here everything that the last month has been leading up to the middle of the show segments three and four. We've been going through the best of the best. We started from the team level. Then we went to the divisional level. Then we went to the playoffs and here we are in the world series. Sit is the nineteen seventy six reds representing the National League in the Nineteen Ninety Eight Yankees representing the American League. It is the big red machine versus the Yankees Dynasty of the late nineties. Santa I thought the best way to break this down. I've kind of been going game by game in regards to who would start. Who would play? But I wanted to look at a positional match up here between the reds and the Yankees. And how do they break down? How to first baseman compare second baseman ultimately go through the rotation and the bullpen. So we can discuss who. Who would win a series in regards to these two teams? So let's jump right into it here. At first base going around horn the reds run out. Tony Perez. He hits to sixty that year. Nineteen home runs ninety. Rbi's at first base the Yankees they had Tino Martinez at twenty eight and one. Twenty three hitting two eighty so an advantage there to the New York Yankees and Tino Martinez right off the bat when it comes to first base Tony Perez had a heck of a career. Don't get me wrong. Really Good Ball player. But in regards to these specific matchups. He's GonNa fall just short. Let's see next up. Second Baseman. Joe Morgan he hit three twenty with twenty seven and one eleven going over to Chuck knob block for the Yankees to sixty five seventeen. Sixty four advantage Joe Morgan and the Cincinnati reds. So we got one to one match up there in the lineup. Pete rose at third base. He'll obviously get the nod. He hit three twenty three only ten homers and sixty three. Rbi's over Scott Brosius who had three hundred one thousand nine hundred ninety eight. But it's Pete Rose it's advantage reds next up. We got the shortstop Dave concepcion to eighty one nine and sixty nine for the reds in Derek. Jeeter number two for the Yankees Hidden. Three twenty four with Nineteen eighty-four advantage New York Yankees. Derek Jeeter were tied up again at two in regards to the the lineup catching here Johnny Bench for the reds. He hit two thirty four. This year was sixteen and seventy four but johnny bench in his prime arguably one of the best catchers if not the best catcher of all time matching up against Posada who to sixty eight with seventeen dinger's this year. You gotta go advantage. Johnny Bench numbers are comparable. Possibly favor Posada the individual and the type of player. He is Johnny Bench advantage. Cincinnati reds. Go into left field. George Foster hit three zero six twenty nine in one twenty-one for the Cincinnati reds strong year that one outlast Chad Curtis Suid to forty three with ten fifty six so another advantage for the Cincinnati reds to take the overall league going to Centerfield Cesar Gear. Amino for the reds here three. Oh seven not a power guy a little bit more of a speed..

"Are putting in long hours around the clock to best serve our community so the next time you're in schmucks tell them thanks and that you appreciate them let them know how much we appreciate their efforts because we will all get through this together. One of my favorite people in the business of Baseball Chris Welch former Major League pitcher and now longtime analyst with the Cincinnati reds. He also runs a website. That will not only teach you about the rules. But bring you in. It's interactive is well. Chris is always I miss CNN. It's great talking to you but Hopefully we'll see each other in person fairly soon. How you doing? I'm doing great Danny. You know we were. We were scheduled to to meet up on opening day in Cincinnati. The parade the cardinals and everything else. It's it's one of the big match ups that I always love on the reds played cardinals because I get a couple of teams that I really like and get the hang around us so Thanks for having me on today. You got misplaced golf with the on opening day and I really miss seeing what this rivalry have been like in twenty twenty and maybe we'll still. We'll have that chance. But what were your expectations for the reds coming into the season? Wow very high expectations you know the ransack thank The Front office says took a bucket thereafter and said Hey. We don't think that we're going to have a better starting pitching rotation in the next few years than we do right here in two thousand so the winner of Two Thousand Nineteen Two thousand twenty one. They decided to go for a lot of money. More than one hundred and sixty million dollars in free agents They made some trades. They decided to bolster their offense. A little bit. Bring in guys like Mike Nicasio to to get already pretty decent team over the edge and I think that was part of it then. I think the other part of that. They see the window of Joey votto being a high quality caliber possibly MVP type player beginning to close enclosed quickly. So you want also take advantage of that so I think everybody in. Cincinnati had great expectations for this Auckland. What did that line of look like Especially towards the tail into spring. When you're playing your regulars and you're seeing Mustafa's Kosta Janos Suarez veto some of the others. I know there's some injuries mixed in there. But you didn't have the full complement. But what was it looking like as you're heading towards That Opening Day. Matchup with the cardinals. You know the interesting part of the lineup is at the very top for me. Because res- went. They signed their first ever Japanese. Free agent Akiyama who's left handed hitter not a big power guy but he was always very good on base percentage player over Japan and I think that that the reds thought his skill set would play pretty well as rates in the same way. It'd probably platoon little bit. Maybe with a young player name. Nick Zell Dick. You gotTa look at him. Last year. He came into camp injured with a shoulder into that. You know he should be ready to go right now so. I think that that would be the top end of the lineup. Joey bottle would probably be in the number two spot. And then from there it would be this learning Mustafa's past the however. David Bell wanted to play the lefty righty matchups and I think the good thing for the Red Sox fans standpoint is that they've got some firepower. They would have some threats in that lineup as far as power hitters. All the way down to the you know. Probably the number seven spot in the eight spot Freddie Galvez. Who's going to take over shortstop on an everyday basis the guy that switch hitter you can expect fifteen or twenty out of him so. I think that there was a lot of excitement to go along with good pitching that they were going to see some homeroom ball set to what would rotation look like a you know. When you think about some of the the big names that you have coming back and guys that really Kinda reclaim their careers in Cincinnati. I thought you're pitching was going to be really improved this year. You know the pitching is going to be improved because you have veteran status pitchers who are now reaching their peak age wise. These guys are thirty five years old. They're twenty nine twenty eight twenty seven one and one a. whether it's sunny gray or or Trevor Bauer no Trevor Bauer. I'm a steal. You know so you know. Casino was was the at the start opening day starter last year. Trevor Trevor Bowers on board obviously sunny grey had he got some cy young award boats and so I think those top three or guys that they really think going to be They would keep the red some have any kind of losing streaks which is always a real problem on ballclub doesn't Excel Wade. Miley was signed as a free agent. left hair first time at a. Red Square takes him. That is very exciting. And he kinda you go one through one through five in that rotation and now you're looking at is the some of the guys who were in the rotation last year the year before our Tom Alley for instance pitch pretty well. Times LAST YEAR. For the reds. Probably looking at going to triple a long time for that kind of depth that they came into spring training. You know looking to cut pitchers off their roster rather than at pitchers to the rotation. How I'd would it have this year? And hopefully we'll we'll find out but to not see Marty Brennaman in the radio booth in a Cincinnati reds game. How how odd would that have been Chris? I think even more odd for you would be not to see him in the media dining room because a lot of people don't know this. I think the best forty events in my day sitting with having because this Guy Holds Court. He has great stage presence. He loves you and gets on you all the time. Get BILLIONAIRE IN. Turn a little bit you know. Sometimes they hurt. But that's the beauty of it though. It is the beauty of it and the guys completely unhinged out what he's not on the air when he's the air is one of the best officials ever caused a terrific reds fans are going to really. Miss Him. I think. Because it's you know little by little the fabric of the game is changing and when you lose icons like Marty Brennan Menendez in the Radio Boots. You know you just don't have you. Don't have the comfort a turning the radio on and hearing that that old leather shoes that fits so well kind of voice things move on certain late but they're they're certainly going to be a big void. I want to get to your site here in just a moment but a final question about the reds David Bell and his long history with his family with the reds and the city of Cincinnati. What would it mean on a personal level David Bell to win in Cincinnati and to do it with the reds? What what do you think that would mean to him and for the city and the fan base? I think it would mean everything for him. Obviously I mean he's always been a guy even going back to the days when Dusty Baker was managing. Jesse told me one time he goes. You know who's going to succeed me as manager David Bell that time David Bell is managing the double eighteen for the reds. In the meantime he had moved on came to the bench coach. The cardinals he. He's well respected his father. Buddy Bell is in the Reds Front Office document. Everything plagued the front office operative coach and so on So the Bell family very well entrenched Cincinnati. It would be a lot. I mean Cincinnati's allow like Saint Louis. You really proud of your own when they do something fun and great and I think that that's how they would appreciate it bill. The one thing that I would recommend. You didn't ask this question but I I think the one thing David Bell you learn as a manager is you have to sometimes follow your own instincts a little more than you think you do Everybody can manage with the stat sheet. Anybody can manage now with all the analytics that the science apartments and the data departments are giving to the manager. But I WANNA see him. Take that one step forward where he begins to manage people a an and situations in putting guys situation or they can succeed by using his gut feel a little bit because he's got a great sense of baseball where he knows the game. He's got a great sense of being leader.

"Back in a little bit of Elvis music right there course they yes you know much fun it is talk about that but Hey let's say hi to Mike is Mike wants talks more sports might die yet let's got here on the board you want to maybe talk Reds and you want to talk about Joe burrow and I guess the possibility him coming here to Cincinnati which one you will start off with I'll probably bring with the rug out of but do you think Joe burrows gonna be a new franchise quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals technology think of small hand really matter and thirty day they're going to want more than seven games or less well I don't have a crystal ball here now I got magic tea leaves because I'm just cooking Amman up below honey in there so I have some the sip on but as far as the bangles go and and this deal about his hands being small there is another story it was put out I haven't had actually had a chance to go through it I definitely think Joe burrow has an opportunity to be a hell of a good quarterback is you get to be a franchise quarterback well you know there's a lot that goes into it because I don't care if you're Tom Brady or Rodgers stall Boker Terry Bradshaw if you don't have an offense of line blocking for you don't matter who in the hell your health bar you can throw the football or what have you you're not going to succeed so that's number one you got to have a live now number two you got to have some pass receivers number one that are afraid to go across the middle the can actually catch the ball instead of running some forty yard dash should for three or whatever you see it catch my drift so if you don't have those two piece of the puzzle it don't matter how good or how much talent you got em all right wrong no no no that's definitely right so you know so there's going to have to be some more piece of the puzzle but do if you want to ask me do I think Joe over its got to be drafted number one and be right here in Cincinnati I don't know because there could be a lot of horse trading going on at team like the Bengals that made you know so much new talent and a lot of different spots a lot of people are speculating that it might be advantageous if they got blown away on a deal to a trade the number one draft pick because they still have a good opportunity to pick a top notch quarterback maybe not necessary Joe burrow because the part one hang around but you know Miami Dolphins supposedly they've got the three number one draft picks that they might be willing to to work out but that must mean that they think pretty highly Joe burrow I can't wait like skyline all right here while I put question better at eighty seven went above or under why well I would say right now it's it's a little early I'd say right now the smart bet would be to say under but I think if the things fall right the Reds have an opportunity definitely compete for the the pennant in the division and you know it's going to be definitely a a a tough division it always is you know Saint Louise got lot of talent this year you can't you know sell the the cubs and no more Milwaukee down the river they've got an awful lot of town of Pittsburgh might be a team that might not compete but there's so much talent they're in they tend to beat up on each other but I think that the main thing is let's see how the pitching staff comes together and see if we can get some more guys that are a little banged up and beat up and see if we can get about their spring training and that's why I got a list of these preseason games in and see what the cowboy because he always does a real good job analyzing the team so that's kind of like my and I haven't followed it real closely right now I've been busy doing some other stuff with all the political stuff but does that make sense to you about the Reds nah you know just forget all that political you know it just looked on thinking that a baby you know okay well why don't we all love walking the red bangles in the we're so happy to have you guys Hey listen I appreciate the call and have a commentary called talksport's anytime let me say hi to day because I'm not sure Dan is a first time caller Danny is says here you want to talk about the Roger stone book you're through think stay for take my call any go go Richards we've we rooted for your Cincinnati Reds here Oklahoma since the red machine days only but the Reds fans are all over the country no question about that we are the nation's station and home in the sense that a Reds and proud of it here he should be I before I wonder if your question about Roger stone since you know we have this you know pending you know possible situation with corona you know spreading throughout our country but if for you know have have we entered into a frog in the president did the right thing and whenever he you know stopped all flights out of the China when he did but what about now that we have of the situation on South Korea you know since it's really spiked there in Italy have we really decrease the number of flights that have the that still flying to the US from like South Korea and Italy well you know I that I have and you know the R. X. for around here I I don't know if he's talked about that broach that subject because that's all the kind of like new breaking stuff Jay Ratliff United saw on with Mike McConnell every morning you know like I think he's on like four times he's R. AV H. ften expert I could maybe reach out to him but it's gonna be troubling because if you have all these other countries that it's apparently spreading too big time and we are having international travel even though I think Donald Trump did the right thing up put in a a curtail on the travel from China and course he got criticized up and down the radio dial by the Democrats are left and right now they're kind of you know taking it back a little bit I guess maybe the fake news media is not it's gonna be real interesting because if this thing keeps spreading and spreading what he had to shut down the borders of one hundred percent never goes you know all your tourism business and what effect the airlines of course the stock markets are already gone in the tank so there's a lot of ramifications that's why this thing's gonna be thought out but it's got to be attacked and I thought Donald Trump said that he the Chinese leader was cooperating in a and B. in asset but then people saying that there still be real secretive I don't know so I don't know which one of those two is true right now okay well you know speaking of the southern border have you noticed that the Democrats from there either interviewed or even probably more importantly with these recent Democrat debates have you heard they they never expressed any concerns with but the drugs that pour no no no they don't express no concern what about all the violence comes in from south of the border yeah and not not withstanding even the disease like you were you know talking with the last caller I mean they either they should be vetted for diseases you know the ones that are allowed actually now you know what this corona I'll tell you one other last thing about the crew and before I ask you about stone and that is I really think this hello are you a brand new virus just out of the blue attitude just pop up out of nowhere and and I think the timing of awful shift back because you know when when Donald Trump he campaigned on you know even you know evening up the the playing field with China and from these other countries like Mexico and I and I know the Chinese hated that you know the Chinese government that he all he wanted to do which she has done is just you know make the the rich you know art but they're trading practices on a level playing field and I cannot help but wonder you know if this I mean again if this virus existed from the beginning of time one down twenty twenty well there's art here maybe I guess kinda hanging around I'm not gonna put words in your mouth of that supposedly there's there's some sort of bio weapon tree place in that same area China where this a corona virus his I guess originated from are are you indicating that you could there be something going on to something the skate like some the conspiracy people are talking about in that might really be how this thing got these started as opposed to the the food that the people have been used to eating there and suppose I've heard some doctors say that this is like a strain often has been around for a long time yeah hi I just got it in it very well I'm not saying I mean who who really knows but I just I just think the timing is a little suspect and you know despite their eating habits will they've they've they've had those sort of eating eating haven't seen on that part of the world for as you know for for years and years right right and so where does this thing just coming now all of a sudden you know even if it naturally occurs in nature and it has for the millennial why now why you shouldn't give down twenty twenty because look what happened to the stock market because of you know people see known companies you know the trading you know they they have fears of the vehicle be a big slowdown and so you know in fact one of the or the vin list one the prominent Democrat said here's another angle we can use yeah Hey Danny I got to your brakes on a push on hold but let's do it we have taken a little short.

"Into the Reds plans now and going forward does he fit into their plans now and going forward more on that I have my favorite five favorite UC basketball players and five favorite Xavier musketeers of all time we'll talk about that a little bit later on in the show seventy one years ago tomorrow was the opening of the Cincinnati gardens it is my Val every year to remember the Cincinnati gardens we will share stories as part of the off the beaten path topic coming up in the eight o'clock hour I have moments and memories and stories about the Cincinnati gardens on the blog right now also the national media on the bangles and a listener last week who caught the UC Memphis game on seven hundred WLW from Venezuela all of that in blog form take a look at it so what's new Reds raids early and often and then we'll get into some college basketball the seven o'clock hour the off the beaten path topic in the eight o'clock hour but if you like talk and read to this would be the time to do it and I was it was it declines on Monday in fort Wright I was at the end K. U. coaches show take it in the show and talk in sports and in in a Reds fan said to me he said Hey should I be optimistic about the raids this year and I said heck yeah if you look at me and said that's what you told me last year Eddie I kind of paused for a second he says that's what you told me the year before if I remember in the year before that in my first response was well and then I kind of pause and I thought about I said well I have told him that for the last number of years they've had six consecutive losing seasons since there was a real sense of excitement in a legitimate chance to play winning baseball yeah I go back to last year and I remember how we felt about this point it the the national media had made the Reds one of the the the buzz teams in baseball remember people teams were laid out nothing was being done in free agency and the rates have gone out and brought in we can camp in warding got rid of Homer Bailey and they traded for Sonny gray and they traded for Tanner Roark in there was excitement and then they started the season one eight but this feels different does it not now I know my my my rule of thumb every year at the start of the season is it can't be optimistic at the start of the season wife to be a fan of any team Reds Bengals you name the team I always said if you can't be optimistic at the start when your team has even won or lost or even played why would you put the energy in the investment emotionally financially into rooting for that team I N. yet I will admit over the last six seasons it has been difficult we've had to for lack of better phrasing we've had to suspend reality because I I think in our in our hurts deep down we looked at this team the previous years we thought man there is no there or we did this well you know if this goes right in this goes right in this goes right in this guy has a career and this guy has a career year maybe even that guy has a career then there might be a chance we had to create reasons what we what we had to make up reasons are head to be excited we had a trick or mine it alternately as it played out the raids were a losing team for each of the last six seasons but this time around this offseason bringing us to this point on the verge of spring training games opening tomorrow does not this fuel differently is there not a different vibe I know there is one for Joey Votto is talk with Jeremy row from fox nineteen to win a chance to catch up with Joe yesterday listen to what Joe he said about the difference from previous years to this year you know some years you.

"Throwing those rock you and as up because usually whatever I'm thinking about that comes comes up pretty quickly and he will answer them and I don't know I just I never tried to get into his head but I'm so glad he's around so I can ask him as fascinating player. I'm sure I will ever cover and you know. Everybody hopes that there is more left in them. That was last year. You know the two thousand eighteen you could say oh. Is this the anomaly. Or is this the start of a gradual decline and the hope was it was an anomaly and and then two thousand nineteen. You're like Oh maybe it wasn't a gradual decline it was a it was a more precipitous decline. And and maybe this is the final answer sir or maybe it's already been answered and many of us don't want to see it so I think two thousand twenty will certainly be pretty telling for for Joey votto in the future of Joey votto. I'm always curious. About how skills will translate from Japan and Akiyama was a great on bass guy there. He had pretty good power there. A to Howard. Those skills expected to translate how to the reds. Hope they'll translate and what is his defensive reputation the defensive reputation. I'm I'm going to start with that one because that's the one that's most you know. I have people saying. Oh He's not what he wants was and the balls you know someone told me yesterday. Today is just not the same over there. You know they they all they never have to go back on balls because there's not a it's the same kind of power but I mean they're still guys who hit forty. Some home runs. It's just not every guy I'm interested to see how it goes. The one saving grace is that he will be playing. Eighty one games at great American ballpark. You Know Shinsu Chew Played Center field at Great American Ballpark and two thousand thirteen could kill them. And and so if he's playing some center if he's he's playing some right he shouldn't kill them and maybe just GonNa be like the he's going to be next to some guys who aren't the prettiest so rank frank better well going for an analogy. But I didn't want to you know that's what I was thinking about is that you've days have outfield. That's Akiyama Castanos winker. It's not exactly the ideal defensive unit. He looks really good. He's relatively the best outfielder in that outfield Southfield. By far the best outfielder in that outfield by far regardless of the reds of said since the beginning with documents they want him they feel comfortable trouble with him playing all three spots and he's a veteran guy. He's done that in Japan. He would move over with Samurai Japan to to play right because of a different center fielder he was not that guy who had to Centerfield and why would would go for and they feel like he has that ability to be a good defender. There are other people are saying. He's no longer the center fielder that he wants. Was You know yes. He won the gold glove again. But that's sixteen league you know that's like being the best defender winning the Central Road Glove and so it is a little bit different. It's again it's it's one of those things let's see how it translates. Nobody knows him real. Well I talked to the people in Japan. I've talked to say he's pretty good. He's never going to hurt you mentally and he's he's Never GonNa hurt you effort wise. Those things are not a question He's got good speed not great speed. I'm guessing we don't have stackhouse but nick castanos stack has speed was Improv. was like impressive to me. He's not going to be as fast measured by that. I think as NIC Castalanos Janos which is kind of surprising. But he's a guy who's apparently takes really good routes and do does all those little things right now they don't Oh care about him getting having power they think he'll get some homers just because again where he plays that depends of course also on the ball. What Ball we have this year here? They just want him to be on base for Win Nick Cast Janos and Mike Stock S and Aristotle Keno or anybody else the other guys they can hit the ball out of the park they just want to run homers instead of Solo homers. The one outfielder whose defense I think everybody agrees is is quite good as Michael Lorenzen who I okay. I actually Kinda worried that the plans to use him in a to a role last year might be Kinda might stop because he was too valuable as a pitcher that he was actually actually a really a very good reliever had in some ways His best year last year but In September he was frequently used in both roles sometimes sometimes in the same game pitcher Centerfield or pitcher in a corner outfield or pitcher and pinch runner and I think we all sort of dream of a future baseball where. There's a lot more more than we think it'd be really fun and a potentially strategically rich. You have seen a is a small but definite version of this now now play out for a year. Is it fun. Do you get used to it like is it. Does it give you a little jolt when when he jogs out to center field and is there a future our baseball where this is more common. Do you think I think there can be. And if this team's off season gone differently. I think there's a possibility it could have been this year. You know if we have the twenty six man thing now with Limits on how many pitchers well if you get him enough starts in. You're not going to hurt yourself. Whatever the the actual wording that comes down is I'm not sure? Have you guys seen it yet. I don't know that I've seen. I saw like one draft raft of what they have to do. You mean the three batter the three battle or the not be classified as a two way to be classified as a two way player. I have not seen I also haven't seen seen I don't know if they've even approved the final wording on three batter minimum yet. But there's also I think there has not been total clarity on whether that would apply apply fully for like a walk Mahachi swap if it would be considerable that someone like Lorenzen could play position in between batters or if it would have to be three full batters and all that sort of thing would be three consecutive could come in from one go to center field for three and then come back in for two of that counts three and all of that sort of stuff. Yeah but also like also the roster because if you're limiting and you're in this game now where as soon as you say everybody has eight pitchers are amen. Poll Penn you. You know the the thought like how can we get fourteen and Mike Lorenzo. You can get fourteen. Because if they had gotten fewer outfielders fielders say they instead of spending their money. There's like one way you know. There's one version that this off season Coulda come where they spent their money on. IOS IOS MONEY GRONDAHL Sack Wheeler and Didi Gregorius. All guys they had interest in well. Then you're still throwing out this outfield. Then maybe you can see a guy like lorenzen getting twenty starts or or whatever you need to get him classified as a two-way guy and maybe not even or maybe even as as a position player or whatnot. So I don't know I just think on a different offseason in a different universe you know your alternate reality. There could have been away to use him to manipulate that that the roster so I'm confused by that and I'm I dance your question guy. Every time he comes in it's still great and and he is a really good defender. He's an amazing athlete. The only guy I've seen. There's probably the only athlete on this team. That's been better. I I don't know Billy Hamilton Salvin athlete too but like our oldest Chapman there's that similarity there was a game several years ago when Aroldis Chapman for some reason was running the bases this and went is at Wrigley Field and went I third and it was just like the most amazing thing I've seen because the guy is just in somersaulting hallway different those zone man born back the back issues on that one but yeah no I mean this guy. Lorenzen is just this unbelievable athlete right and so there is still some excitement to seeing him. Do that and come in the game to pinch hit Pinch Ron especially 'cause dude can fly. Well I was going to ask you about a keynote but has noted he is basically a big question mark so I guess I won't make you turn him into an answer because maybe no one can and yet yet but it's easy he award you know his two months were more valuable than Four months of PUIG right share and when he was setting records his first few weeks in the majors and then it kind of went away. But Yeah I mean he had that game where he had an exit velocity of like one ten on a homer and then a hundred undermine our throw from the outfield. And you know I think some of that that uh other the the fielding part and some of those other things that he's able to do or overshadowed by by that you know that that month where every other thing thrown to him was in the seats you know is funny. I did a story because he had almost the exact same I intro to the big leagues as Reese Hoskins. Yeah and I talked to reach hoskins about it and I think because the phillies were here like right. I didn't read at the end of August. Like right when he kind of went in to the tank and did what reese hoskins did his first year and so the the you know the parallels it at if I were Erie and then when you they both had just that that second month like nosedive and those were so similar so it's It's kind of an interesting parallels those two and then I was just going to mention Suarez because to me he was sort of the face of the peak homerun year not to disparage him him as a player because he is an excellent player regardless of the Paul but because of the ball in part he became the monster and hit forty. Nine home runs which even now. Well every time I look at it. Just it gives me a little shock to see that on his stat line and he was not really a better hitter than he had been the season before when he was already very very good he just hit a lot more homers as many players did and so he just had shoulder surgery last week because he hurt himself in a pool. Do we know how he hurt himself. In a pool and is that if directed to lean involved was he dunking was or is that expected affected to linger into the season and potentially hurt that power. They they believe that he should be ready. Pretty early in the season now When when I talked to nick crawl? It was as I guess Tuesday because that was he had he had surgery the same day that Castanos his press conference Afri- SAR believe. That was Tuesday so that you know that it's still relatively early. But they they're hopeful full that he's back pretty early and again so much so that they're not thinking about Nixon's l. and the infield. It'll probably be Mike stock us over there for a little bit you. You can throw in some of their bench guys kyle farmer. A Josh van meter may be a platoon of the two at second base Until Suarez gets back and then Miss Dacas goes goes back to second pace so yeah but like you like you were saying about Suarez and that jumping out at you. The one that got me is not the raw number but the fact that he we set the record for the most homers by Venezuelan in the season so he had more homers in a season and again. This is not to denigrate a hineous whereas Chris I think it's a really good player. But he had more homers in a season than Miguel Cabrera are under scholar. Aga or Magli Ordonio. I mean you know you just kind of blows the mind and that is emblematic of juice ball. So we're not getting the seventy home runs of the juice player addition but the fact that we're getting the guy like a Ohio swerves forty nine and more than more just more than Miguel Cabrera ever hit right. Yeah all right well. We have always ended these things before. I knew what to expect to note that Jose laziest had eleven which might be even more outrageous. Worst Freddie Galvez at twenty three. Yeah all right. Well transplant here before so he knows that we are putting on the spot here as usual. This is just for fun. Don't Take Vegas or anything but mental like when we end these things with team win total predictions and I think they understand the spirit in which those predictions are offered namely that we all know nothing and base for Lindsay. Lindsay Adler Yes Linda hers is great at least was last year even if you had predicted the reds true talent last year you still would have been off by nine Windsor. Zor something. Probably so that just goes to show how impossible task this is but all of that said how many wins for the Cincinnati reds. I guess the good news is.

"Plenty of baseball news to get into on a Monday including big signings by the Cincinnati reds while he big signing that's on top of other signings they've made throughout the offseason the busy offseason in Cincinnati reds history will take a look at the central how that division looks like plus a lot of other news to get into throughout the world of baseball. We are running towards spring training. Starting really exciting. And hopefully we can get this astros astros cheating scandal behind us and move on from it but I would be mistaken. Remiss add in other adjectives if we did not start the show with the tragic news of yesterday Shocked the sports world that shocked the world in general the passing of Oscar winning NBA Mvp Future Hall of Famer Los Angeles Laker wonderful father. Kobe Bryant at the age of forty. One I'm sure you've heard the story don't need to go through the details but I wanted to spend the first part of this show today remembering what Kobe Bryant was who he his and just discussing this for a little bit because it's important and so Often in sports we escape things that are going wrong with the world. They don't matter here. I don't have to talk about them here. I don't need to talk talk impeachment trial or politics or the economy or the stock market. Here I don't need to talk about real things here. Just a ball. A Bat runs victories. Losses things that matter yes but truly at the end of the day. They don't yet when something like this happens. The real world collides with the sports world extremely tragic way and it saddens dances and reminds us of the things that truly matter life like our loved ones our family. If you're a parent your son or daughter if your son or daughter your parents your girlfriend. Your boyfriend your significant other and I think what happened. Yesterday reminds reminds us all to hug the ones next to us. Show them that we love them. Remind them how much they are law because we never know when it all all comes to an end because Kobe Bryant a guy with so much potential in front of him even though you felt like you already showed all. His potential in the sport of basketball is no longer with us and I'd never really understood celebrity deaths and why people truly born person they had had never met never talked to never shaken. Their hands were hung them and I never really understood those and and why people grieved those deaths until yesterday. 'cause my mom always used to tell me a story about when she found out about how. Princess Diana's death and how that was the same day she found out she was pregnant with me. And that I would eventually Ashley becoming into this world and on that same day. She tried to inform my grandmother that you know I was GonNa make get into this world that I was going to be thing. She was going to be a grandmother that that's what the news was supposed to be and yet she couldn't get it out because before she could even say anything they were in tears over the news of Princess. Diana's death tragic death and when my mom told me that story I never really understood it really. I thought isn't your life a little more important than somebody else's but yesterday I understood it fully because when somebody somebody that has so much impact on so many people that matter to you so many people that you have watched so many people that you've grown with when when that person connects us in a way that is undeniable crumble up a piece of paper shoot it at a trash can yell Kobe. When he defines a generation of sport when he defines generation of culture? It hurts because it feels like everybody. Everybody lost a piece of something and there was no time to prepare for it. There was no story that he's getting sick. There was no age that now he's an old. There was no lead up. There was nothing this came out of absolutely nowhere and it came in the middle of what felt like was going to be an amazing next ten to fifteen years of Kobe Bryant. It came in the midst of him producing one of my favorite sports analytic. Show detail it came in the midst after dear basketball and him winning an Oscar Oscar him and his daughter on TV and you clearly saw Kobe. Developing into this man to this role model to this person that Wanna be this person that slave away and dedicated himself to a craft and yet was able to let go and move on and transition in becomes something even more to define culture and win something like that was taking away and I saw the reaction from everybody and I could feel it. Group could really feel it and felt like a true loss to me and I'd finally understood why my mother and my grandmother held each other crying over the death of a person they never do because yesterday and all I could do was just cry because it was touching it was awful. It was tearjerking because it didn't need to the happen senseless pointless tragic but I want us to remember what Kobe Bryant wants. A cultural icon. He was a legend a creative savant. Both on the basketball floor in his life. I mean you can see the creativity on the court as well as in his his creative adventures. You could see the way. He got off a shot the way he made. It looks smooth the way he could shimmy shake spin and still deliver a jumper without you. Blocking it was the same way in life he could shimmy shaken spin around five languages. Shimmy shaken spin a movie script. A detail right. Those things connect and Kobe showed US something. So special that the unbelievable dedication into a craft the unbelievable dedication to an art the Mamba Mentality the unbelievable focus on achieving something on driving to be great at to getting up every day in working at your craft and not asking for somebody to hand it to you. Were expecting it to be handed to you but working for it and outworking your competition showing up the gym two hours early making king sure your workout or your grind or whatever you do to get better is somebody else's full day you're warm up. Is Their full day just out. Working People just being unbelievably dedicated to something in showing that is extremely important but also showing the ability to move on the ability to let go the ability to transition the ability to understand when you've failed when it's time to move on and unfortunately it's time for the world to let go of Kobe. Bryant taken from US far too soon and I can only imagine what else he would have accomplished in his life. And it's sad that this has happened to unbelievable tragedy. It's a tragedy that I will remember forever where I was when I found out. It's a tragedy. I'll tell my kids about and I'll also tell my kids. Every good thing that Kobe Bryant did everything he inspired fired me to be everything. He inspired people around the world to be Kobe. Bryant should be and will be across sports baseball soccer. Her basketball everything should be remembered forever. And it's unfortunate that this all had to happen but it's important to realize that an event like this shows us. The power of sports shows us that one person one one shot one frame of mind one saying can be repeated and believed in by people across the world that one game it can be seen by millions by hundreds and thousands of fathers and sons and mothers and daughters and people can connect over those moments and not only do. They remember member watching Kobe but they remember watching Koby with their dad. They remember watching Kobe with their brother. They remember watching Koby decided to go out and take a few extra shots. Were they remember Kobe talking about his dedication at work and deciding to get up a little early that morning and do a.

"Outward apparently loved his time in Cincinnati. And that's a guy who I think. Obviously he's not going to a say Noda more millions of dollars from somebody else To come back to Cincinnati but I think the idea of him kind of some unfinished business there. I think he'd be very interesting. Asian coming back on a one year deal with certainly round out The best reds rotation since at least two thousand thirteen Back when the Johnny Cueto. Mla Toes and Bronson Arroyo Royo And one of the better ones in the National League so yeah I. I could certainly see them doing that. And I think that's something that they will address if for no other reason that there are. I'm not even sure I'm trying to think I'm not sure there's been a deeper pool of really good. Starting quality. Starting pitching teaching options on the market is our this winter And I think the reds will certainly try to do their best capitalize on that. Yeah there's a ton of them and one name that throws up for me is another former red sox or gallic report solo. Just the guy's going to go and then throw one hundred. Eighty two hundred innings obviously didn't have the best end of the year last year. But you got you could definitely benefit from guy. I jame shields report sell those names. You hear all time that can throw two hundred innings and just help out someone's hurt help out if you're just waiting for someone to you get called up and there's a lot of like in between things that there are serviceable guys that you need to eat innings. That aren't that bad on the CAP. Oh Yeah for sure that was ten Aurora for around the perfect. It was great I loved him. I thought he was perfect. Yeah he was these. The the quintessential number three number. Four Starter Taghi. No He's going to give you a six and a half innings or six the third innings averaging time out there Yeah you need that that that that saves you bullpen. That is time for younger guys I think that's absolutely something that they will look into. A heck you get tired for tears and twenty million Do that why not go do that. And then Bauer and discover off the off the payroll after this year and suddenly Rox Rox till hair. You've never through starter behind guest you grade for twenty twenty one and he helps you out an extra as well so yeah. I think the red. You're going to be opportunistic about that. I I mean. There's there's so many good pitchers out there. This particular offseason minute the reds they're gonNA walk away with somebody I don't think dedicate a lot of payroll to l. but they're gonNA walk away with somebody out there for sure all right so we cannot not ask about The Bauer trade are other coves. Covers the Amarillo. Emmerdale of sod Pu poodles and covers Taylor Trammell. So he'll want us to ask about this. But what were your thoughts on the Trevor Bauer. So I've got I've got to put my out reflective goggles on this for a minute So we've talked about data Gorey's talked about yes. migraine doll The last reds free agent contract of note that they gave out was Ryan Ludwick for two years and eighteen million dollars in two thousand twelve before that it was Francisco. Cordero I think two thousand seven four years in forty six million dollars and that's the biggest Asian contract they've ever given out so it has since for the better part of a decade and a half the idea that the redskin ever address any of their major needs. Free Agency has been nonexistent. Like we haven't even written about a free Target for them in six years because they just haven't done now they've expressed very often this particular winter. How important twenty twenty years and how they are willing to jump back into the free agent market which is a whole new territory for them and for us so when I saw that they traded told you about their top prospect futures gaining women? Vp from twenty eighteen. I think at the time number thirteen over all and it'll be pipeline for one and a half years. Trevor Bauer when the rotation was already the best rotation they put together together in a decade. I was like what the hell are you doing. Why why because at the time that you would do to address your roster sure to get better as traits? Why Trade you best guy for somebody who seems almost redundant to what your best aspect is? It's one trade. They could pull off or something they really needed so at the time I hated it. Absolutely despise the deal in which they would a trade journal for a guy who would have been around for longer than Bauer or who is cheaper than our all the the aspects of the old small market trade only Cincinnati reds. That's it if the reds actually are willing to begin to address roster issues by spinning in Free Agency that to me looks a lot better on paper Because okay trade all the prospects if you can go outside Nice to replace him. That's just not something red's ever did did ever before Trials Guy who is as tools as could possibly be They signed him. It was the second pick. I think it was a supplementary first-round Pick Nick in two thousand sixteen they saved about a million and a half bucks on Nixon's when they took him second overall through all of that money. Detailed Your Mel signed for three and a half million dollars Goodbye out of a scholarship to Georgia tech where he was particularly also gonNA play football. Standout running back stayed out athlete. Guy Approved by university Georgia Livable's football as well Just one of the tools. These athletes that red hat in their system in a long long time giving up on him where they did I was I was really really frustrated. Frustrated he was going through a swing. Change you look at his numbers at Aa this year. They really weren't that good as I mentioned earlier. In the PODCAST. The the Double Environment Office Environment Emmett Chattanooga's really was not getting all this year. Especially for lefthanded hitters. So that kind of played into his numbers really being down. It seemed like a soul low on him to me and got a guy. It's only there for a year and a half half which was a season in twenty nine team with the reds. Weren't going anywhere. It really puts a lot of their eggs in the basket for for the twenty twenty season season. I think Bauer has the chance to be a very good bounce. Back candidates specially heading into free agency after this year the reds bringing in cal- boaty. You could tell the bowers guy that they had interested in for a long time before this and this all kind of seems to be kind of coming together in a perfect storm knock on wood for how good Bauer could could be next year But trails guy who I still have very very high hopes for. I think he's going to continue to evolve and improve as he gets more and more used to that swing change changed. But he's the guy who I still look up in the rescue out and sign every outfielder. They possibly could want to make me forget about Taylor's from L. That still doesn't diminish the fact that I think he's very very good impactful player For whether it's the padres or somebody else down the road. I think he's kind of guy that just did really still burns. Think about the redskins enough on him. Yeah for sure. I'm pretty much of the opinion that of your so. I hate that You know he they had to do the away with Trammell but you know maybe maybe it works out in the end but finishing out with the bullpen Just a few quick couple questions Amir Amir Garrett pretty solid season over your thoughts on his season I did he make enough of a jump to be. You know the setup guy And just your thoughts awesome his season as a whole. Yeah his was up and down for sure you know he was a guy who we all got severely snubbed by not being on the All star team. His first half half was just brilliant guy who excuse me he was a guy who was saint. John's phenomenal athlete. The reds ethic drafted him. Wait and sign up for a seven figure bonus knowing that he's going to continue play college basketball but a guy that won't be patient on crack every single possible top WANNA prospect list crack top fifty by couple As a starting with the miners and near the reds at that point in time during when he started on the rebuild really had a big group of guys who we thought was going to be the rotation the future And all who were very very highly riddick is Brandon Finnegan cody read Robert Stevenson and Garrett was a big big part of that as well None of those guys panned out as starters But you saw from Stevenson a little bit last year and certainly from Garin That the way Derrick Johnson implements his is pitching philosophy. It's not euro relief pitcher. You need these three pitches. Learn them and throw them in this mix. It is throw your best patient though. It is often as you think you need to and Amir Garrett slider is absolutely one of the best wipeout pitches in all of baseball. Aw and you really saw focus on throwing that last year and when he is. He's almost untouchable. It's not quite Josh. Heydrich but it's very every similar from the left side and he's a guy while I'm extremely high on I think he's kind of found his niche back there I certainly think he's got the chops to be one of the better elected setup and all the National League for for Twenty Twenty and going forward hopefully and Last question for you do the reds go out and bring in a guy you know another guy to work in the seventh through ninth inning. I think so yeah is quote unquote closer. Although I think it would preferred I use it more as that high leverage guy than the quote unquote ninth inning Guy So he's there. Michael Lorenzen extremely interesting guy. Especially now the fact that the twenty-sixth roster twenty-six rolls into play and the provision for having a the two way player. He's a guy who I think is just going to continue to improve the Boldon open I I think those three. You've got a pretty solid back in Mentioned Robert Stevenson. He kind of broke out in a relief last year as well. I think those four lucrative Luke sims you get a pretty good mix there that said The reds love playing great American ballpark. You have to Love guys can come in and get it ground ball and they had that Jerry use the last two years A guy who can come in. Is somebody guiding first base and you need a big out or try go play A. He's just announced. Grab all machine A guy like Brennan Kessler. I think would be a really good fit in that role but I think the reds will sign another veteran interest to bring in for that back into the bullpen. They lost you're accused of mid year last year David Hernandez well both of whom had great twenty eighteen seasons not not so much twenty nineteen but also guys that you'll fill that veteran role in the bullpen. I think you'll see the rents. Go Out and get a guy like that Kim jumps out to me. You might be a little extensive than that. went to what is spent for a guy who doesn't profile his eighth-inning Guy But someone in that that is absolutely what What the reds are contrary targeted this winter?.

"The big toki bond the game these soco hand bowl, the twenty three seconds, this is resented, the chief refereeing officer he was speaking back in January, about the production of. But he was asked to clarify the Hamble said this, when the totally out of the body above the shoulder should be penalized, if the vendors making the body big in order to block the bowl, it is not it's different if the defenders challenging playing the bowl and rebounds, but if he's looking to block across or a shot on goal and the player is trying to spread his body than it is a Hamble that was the two given to referees, back in January upon the introduction of having taken that into account. Was it a penalty crave? Yes. But I think the, the gray area for people to Kim off of the body, I on the arm is so extended the effect that codifies. Kick in, you know, I think he was trying to point some the point. Unfortunately, the arm so far extended. Give us a percentage Ali on for that. Wall's wasn't. Drip percent. It's, it's a penalty, yet, you can't you can't be doing this and the Armagh there inside eighteen yard box. It hits your on. We have what do you think is going to have it's going to be a penalty and people say, well back in deal day back into new day, Mahan to point, this was a handful twenty years ago fifty years ago now and he'll be handle for years to comas. It's a Hamble. Well, it was a lot of debate online stadiums ju you the same way. What is much when it first happened? We've seen oversee the replace. And everybody says he's his out these buddy, I than eighties and under the current laws that time Bose. In some ways you see is harsh, but it's Hamble under the current laws Stevie of chillier. I'm not gonna see one I'm going to tell you the had it not been given. I would not have been crying Lipold, then gun Palley screaming. Amble ambled. Come on. I can honestly styling sale you that if I'm being given I wouldn't have been crying about it. I mean it's the law, and I was so confused. And you know, it's come off chess and Hayes arm. I thought that not men. It wasn't a penalty. But seemingly, this name was it, you spoke about their says it's a penalty so I'm a little confused with the rules, all know but for me Hannemann, given our problem that was Roberta resented that guy. Whoever us Stevie? Van Dyke Alison oversee looking back and comparing livable's final twelve months ago. And they have made some difference of. Up. So Lutely phenomenal set. Two minutes ago said you know, he s e had to make some saves, but he never looked Enin was going to be how mean it didn't fit. Wrong is distribution was was fantastic. And he just looked so calm. Alicia. Zoe could smoke a cigar while he's in goals and his pollen from him. Van dyke. Yeah. The one I thought Sean had actually done them in the penalty box. And he changed Ghia amid the challenge and give a calm away. I'm in the children have been nothing short of a nominal. No question. If it was the golden we've talked started. Oh, sorry. But we've talked about it to the You know. know I'm not seeing Alison accidentally flash game. But I don't know what it looked like for you guys there. But each look such massive physical presence goal. Than up the other end. Yeah. He looks messy presence. He would everything that is why when he had to push it round the post he pushed it round the post he might good decisions. He might good decisions on the bowl as well. And that's will carry us didn't do all Shia. He's around guy was excellent. Good saves good decisions, and also comfortable on the ball and just that little bit of presence about him. Played the Kamov in the end, but there was one distribution by Alison on a half, volley to Mohammed Saleh on the right hand side that created a counter attack for Liverpool that just gives you an idea what he can give you similar to whether there's those for Manta city,.

"Ninety nine in AA and AAA combined and it's weighted runs created plus of one seventy. Three is top twenty in the minors AJ are you adding him right now? I am. I am because I think this is the type of player who can give you two solid week. Coming in. And that's basically all we're looking right now all those left in the regular season. So I think this is a guy who wants he gets the call is going to be in the lineup every day. And certainly, you know, when you're you're, you're looking at money players. You see on the lineup immediately think, oh, they're not in the lineup, are have they been called up and like, you know. So that was it was almost like a false alarm when everyone's like, oh, he's, he's got the flu. But yeah, I'm looking for dis. We'll get McCall prior to September first because that means that they're gonna play every day agreed when he's here to plays in the right park, it accentuates power. And I've, this is one of my favorite prospects watch this guy play a few times in person, and he's got an all field approach all field powers. Well, I love the prospects like that. JD Martinez is the guy always out there as one who has tremendous opposite field power. I think he could do maybe not quite to that level, but he's he's balanced there. I definitely would be adding him Jacob mix of the Padres a one eighty four era in ten. Starts combined between double and triple had a bad 2017 as rebound nicely and the Padres having cleared out the rotation recently from from some waiver waiver cuts. They've opened up spots for some rookies like Brett Kennedy, but Knicks is the one who I think is pretty interesting. Are you adding him. I'm not adding him. And the reason is, is it again, like I said, pitching is a lot more scary for be in terms of when we're talking about a guy coming up, I don't know whether or not there's a book on him with, you know, depends we face is, do they know him or the players on the team is a younger team. You have to really analyze that sort of thing. You know, we've had a lot of situations this year, especially with the reds earlier this season and the cardinals where these these younger players are coming up and they have really strong, I starts and then suddenly, no, no, they, they do not do that a second start. So you're really gambling on just they're not being a book on the met first time out. I'm not taking the chance at this stage of the season. I think that the Petco park thing is going to drive a lot of people to add next. Now I've been taking out some pickups on him taking some chairs and NL only leagues the deep league's just speculative throwing darts beyond that. I can't go much further. The k. rate isn't there. So I agree with the age. I think that this is somebody to watch, but I want the name in there because I think he could be an interesting guy in a couple of weeks. Padres have done a pretty decent job with getting some of those young pitchers set up right away. Let's get to the weekend schedule here, and we've got a great question on Twitter to t- us up here AJ. So we're going to do the schedule a little bit differently. The question was there's plenty of innings left before I hit my limit. Can you highlight a streamer type of pitcher that stands out for each day when previewing the weekend? So AJ you and I will each throw a streaming candidate for each of the days as we go and we'll start with Thursday. Thursday, the game start at one. Oh, five. So hopefully you got your lineup set already, but the ESPN plus game. It is Rangers at Yankees. It's REO Gerardo at j a happ. Actually, it would be j. hap, but I'm calling him Jay half for now making his second start for the Yankees. Coming back from the. The hand foot and mouth disease coming back from the deal. Apparently he should be fine for this one and hap-. I liked the matchup here. As a matter of fact, he'd be one of the ones I'd throw out there as a potential matchups candidate for this game could pitch well like Lance Lynn did in the Chicago game. We didn't even get to that one. But does he stand out to you or to somebody else..

"The reds hi everybody check corgan along with jerry schimmel and producer engineer jesse thomas rockies for the first time this season have a four game losing streak so they certainly wanna turn that over the next couple of days starting with tonight actually solutely jack and they're back on the road with evatt success or nineteen and thirteen away from course field this year's tied for the second most wins on the road in the national league so they're very comfortable on the road they were a team that had a good start to their home stand but not a great finish to it and hoping to kind of pick up the pieces after a day off yesterday get back on that winning track the reds are exciting excited here tonight because anthony disclosure fani one of their young pitching prospects is finally going to be back pitching in a regular season game for the first time in a couple of seasons about that late to september i think it was two thousand sixteen that he lasts pitch and that was from in relief so yeah activated from the disabled list today had his rehab starts he had four those and then miners and it's the guy that the red really like he had two different injuries that last couple of years the elbow strain as well as you leak strain and he's back there tonight we're not sure what the pitch count might be in terms of limitations for him but i think the reds are very excited about having this guy back on the mound and the rockies feel excited in their own right because kyle freeland who has been as consistent as anybody gets the call for colorado i think you make an argument jackie's been the most consistent pitcher from day one with the rockies there have been some great performances with beddis gray and some other but they've been little up and down this guy's been pretty steady along the way he said his last time amount was probably the worst out and he got the win in that game so i think the rockies feel very good about their lefty there denver native on the.

"Certainly these are two of them moving onto the next big story it's a big story in new york it's about to shift over to cincinnati and actually to los angeles because matt harvey who was designated for assignment by the mets and then subsequently traded to the reds will start tonight in los angeles for the reds so they're really not wasting anytime seeing what what they have a matt harvey it's not as if the reds are needing to be careful with any of this their record is terrible and it doesn't look like they're getting out of that anytime soon so the interim manager jim riggleman said that harvey pitch a couple of innings maybe go four but he will be little bit limited because of his lack of recent just game appearances so it's been a volatile time for him in in new york i know spoke to the media and i think that he is putting that all to rest after his one time talking to the media about his years in new york so i don't know richard i mean i guess this is you know like a wide not situation i do feel like matt harvey has the potential to go on and have a major league career in in some capacity but i don't feel like he's gonna write himself this year with this team going out on the major league stage i feel like he's gonna have to go to like one of these like ranches in the off season with some pitching guru that nobody knows his name and reinvent himself and try to be able to get outs doing other things i know you kind of feel like he just has to i don't know maybe refined some pitches that he's doesn't seem to wanna throw anymore i think he's got a star but looking himself in the mirror this is the hundred and fifth start of his career he's twenty nine years old he's got a sixty are a over his last forty four appearances that's that's where you start looking at mirror in on it feels like this is a crossroads of sorts but it felt like it was a crossroads of sorts when he gets mickey callaway his manager dave island is.

"But two penalties for the start they might have ended up liverpool getting a point of this if you had the the buy your gold so you know he has to look at this and say to sell bouquet if we go they play against big teams in good teams improper teams in the champions league if we can do what we did in the fox half a to half they can play against antibiotic there 'cause they eta we had a great start lane there were breaking up the play and then it will look in dangerous on the break they can do that against any team in the champions league but they're gonna do for to offs because you're not going to build you locally we were against a real would rather a vassal walter centeno the edgy of barks and defending league trojan so is the as they way we know he's step right and it's hard to think that he's going to change especially when he's getting these results anyway as it's not going to change by what we're saying is that that version of mind to say not in the first half and i and ii i'll say exactly what's tvs it can compete against anybody that version on monday night at can that one in the second half no chance that one in the first half that knows there are strains okay we're we're gonna defend we're going to defend well we're gonna put local in areas that they don't want to be from their we're going to create turnovers and from there we're gonna attack and when we attack we're going to commit those numbers are we gonna take chances it's one thing to tactically be defensive it's another thing to be conservative and when you're conservative you limit yourself you limit europe opportunities going forward you lose momentum and then you lose the ability to have possession on the other side of the field and because you do that you allow other teams to grow into the game and liverpool again made a competitive for me meant to see not first half excellent secondhalf on necessarily dramatic to i'm luca.

"Exactly that because they are the most fun reds but i'd go back into reds history a little bit there's a few years ago the reds made the the johnny cueto trade with the royals and they got what i thought was a pretty strong return in in brennan finnigan john lam and cody read to get three pretty good young pitchers for a rental i thought was a good move for the reds but of course none of the return picks of really panned out to this point so how much how much trust is still in the return on the reds i didn't know that finnegan is coming back from injuries and read has struggled to throw strikes so how much hope is still there and if not that to what extent of the pictures been passed up by other guys who have risen through the system lake louise seo well i mean we've custody ago would rise pass a lot of people you'll finnigan they're still belief that he can start he's in the rotation more or less right now and if not i think the fall back with were were finnigan there is i don't think anybody doubts that he could be a great seventy senate guy if that's what happens if he if he can't start and cody read the you know the stuff is still there with reed it's it's never been below the shoulders and i think there's a lot of questions how he he can handle success and failure more importantly omni just has not handled it well to this point but again the stuff there maybe if he comes out of the bullpen as just there to be crazy guy out of the bullpen there's some value there but that's more than they were gonna get from johnny cueto at the end of two thousand fifteen season and you know that was one of those instant winner traits rose like oh the road the reds to really well the royals obviously did well in return is you know johnny cueto served a purpose and a long weird ride with his time in the royals so it's one of those were you look at it and it's like maybe they didn't get the superstars maybe they didn't if this this overwhelming win but i still think it's a net positive i i can't see words not in that positive i'm that same.

"Reds exactly right i who he he's not the quarterback of the future the giant so and davis webb who you're like if you're going to do this you say okay let's get a look at him he was an active so it just all around was just a ridiculous decision to do and how they went about doing it and now it just seems like he may need to burn the thing down yeah that seems to be the only i'd say outcome in this that makes any sense because footballwise all these decisions are are interesting but if the lack of decisive leadership that's really the glaring error in all of this and that's the mirrors coming out and saying we wish wedeman bore volvo it's your job to be involved in around for these decisions to happen ben makah do obviously is grossly mismanaged a lot of things coming out around all of this but top to bottom the inconsistency the way too transparent nature of this and ultimately them undermining themselves has been embarrassing for a franchise that you expect to be better and again according to chris mortensen adam schefter that firing of been mac at which a giants hardly ever do ever do anything like that in season could come as early as today but he almost get the feeling guys they're doing that to sort of see they can distract us from how what you just talked about how poorly this was handled with the manning situation look if you wanna look to the future that's fine that's understandable he is going to be thirty seven in january years in his fourteen th season but the way this sort of thing was propped up they want him to go out and be the show pony to keep his streak alive we had steve young on on oreo ally i said i wanna told the stick it now i want to me to do that it don't say you didn't know because there's no way ben macular was on a short rope any way oh yeah there's no way he did this on his own he wasn't just give a hey guys just so you know i'm going to do this and i hope you're okay with it that's not the way were and mike i heard you play it on your show just just where we are in this situation and you knew he was going to be asked it but how ally handled being.
