"And I don't think this is not a knock on any of those guys. But they're up here now. And does this look any different? Doesn't look any different. No. And that's Yeah. I mean, and bone He's coming up to replace Kingery effectively 100. Well, Yeah, I mean, What they won't say publicly is this cannery is now utility player. That they've give because you're paying signora so much. He's going to get the bulk of the starts at second. Girardi loves Roman coin and hazily was a very high draft pick. I like easily a lot. I don't know how that fits in the equation are going to get more opportunities because of the age and all that. Yeah, but this this is them. Sort of giving up on him is an everyday guy. Yeah. 15 games into this season. It's his third year in the majors. Not good. No, it's not good. And they came a six year deal. Yeah, I mean, that's here's another. So you went premature on Kingery and you held out too long on On Real Muto tried to get that thing done. Yeah, they just the judgment. Is just to skew everywhere. You look with the front office and we talked about. We talked about this either last night. Or last time we did a crossover. I thought they all should've gone. I thought it should have been Gabe and MacPhail and Klentak and clean it out and just get some fresh ideas in there. And I still to this day don't know why Middleton Felt the need to keep those guys despite the fact that they so badly want to capture still here. You had a fundamental disagreement there. But so why isn't every wise in their full change? I don't get it. Yeah. And here's the other thing, too. If you're going to make that change and pull the lever from slow build with the kids, too. We're going to win now. Then go over the tax. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, go over the tax goal in. That's what you chose to do. You gave up everything to go all in for certain window. This is the window and you didn't take it. This is the year where they absolutely should be in the play offs with the kind of money that they're spending with some of the guys with their best players being hot like this team should be in the plan. Oh, yeah. Look, you saw you saw the fillies and the Sixers Want to AMP it up. And you know the instead of going from the slow baked to the microwave, and and this is what you get. As a result, like the fliers were the team. To the point where it cost Ron Hextall his job. But now you're seeing the fruits of his labor where they took it Super slow. And boom. I mean, these guys had the time to sort of blossom. They didn't trade. They didn't make some crazy signings and all that, and they're the team. Now that looks most likely to win a championship first. Yeah, we have that. That evergreen debate that we always have. I mean, the Eagles are always in the mix because of the nature of the beast, sport and all that, But, yeah, I mean, there's no question that it looks now like it's It's not looking good for you. The Phillies or the Sixers know they feel oddly similar. The very much very much so many so well, Look, we'll do a lot of that. There's a lot to get into with this Phillies team in some of the moves that were made and Here's the beauty you get. You get Jacob to Graham tonight. Just that's going to turn things around When you get you gotta face the ground. Yeah, well, you know, deGrom has that same kind of Noah thing where the Mets never give him runs never gets any help. No. So maybe we get lucky. Like Spencer Howard doesn't totally bomb And Real. Muto and Harper stay hot and we still just because it's to Graham and they did. The Mets. Just hate to Graham. This is what it's come to, You know, that's it. Yeah, like 15 contingency plans for this thing to work. It's gets swept by the Orioles. They lost 108 games last year by any what is happening here. Unbelievable. Phillies fever. Yeah, It's a mess. Right, man. Yeah. So I'll be listening to you on the way home. I decided yet. Thanks, man. So Ah, let's see. "But the other things that go into this, by the way, just on top of being happy for decal on the fact he gets to do this, like it's one. It's important to do it. While Dick Allen is still with us, like That's part of this year because you see guys like I remember the one thing that will always stick with me. There's a guy's name's Jerry Kramer and he was alignment for the Packers, and he got into the Hall of Fame about three years ago. And he had passed, like 10 years before he got into the whole thing. What does that do for anybody? You know what I mean? If you're going to honor a guy do while they're still living, like find somebody that is still no that that person is older. I don't know what the age or rather, the health of Dick Allen is so I don't want to make you think there's anything wrong that I know about? As far as I know, he's fine. But He's 78 years old. So honor him, You know, like, why wait so long to shame. It takes this long to do it. But you should always when you've got somebody for their accomplishments. You want to honor them is an organization if you wait Too long. You might miss the opportunity to really make it right. And so I'm glad the Phillies air doing this at a point where they can get it right. And that's a great thing to see. His number should be retired with the Phillies and then what it opens up beyond that. Which is nice. Is that now you're looking at other guys in the Phillies system in the in the Phillies franchise history that haven't had their numbers retired because they're not in the Hall of Fame but now can have their numbers. Retired like that is a bad rule. You know, it's just if your whole standard is based on people outside of your organization and outside of the city coming together and saying This person is worthy of having their number retired or not. That's a mistake because We know the players better than anybody, right? Like people in the city who watched them every day who followed them every day who still think about those players and talk about those players? They're the people who know And so that's what you honor locally, right? It's all about the local fans and what those players meant to the franchise. Even if they're not all fame player like we talked about chase ugly all the time. And Chase Utley is a guy that people have their kids named after Chase Utley. Their pets are named after Chase Utley. If you're going to tell me the Chase Utley doesn't deserve his number to be retired as a filly. Then I would tell you that you've never seen chase suddenly in your life and you have no idea what you're talking about, Like it's insulting. Honestly, it's insulting to chase Utley. And what he did is a player in this city of what he meant to this city. To say that he doesn't deserve to have his number retired. It is patently ridiculous, and it's great that now the Phillies have advance to that point where Utley can get his number retired where Jimmy Rollins can get his number, retired Ryan Howard Cole Hamels, if they want to do with any of those guys and those will be debates that we have, surely over the coming weeks and months of which guys deserved to get it from the O a team and whatever but It's nice that those discussions can be had no, and it's not just well. We made this rule based on a Hall of Fame vote. Which Hall of Fame votes always bother me, anyway, The process is bad. The people they keep out is not sensical. I just I hate that. So it's nice to see that Dick Allen is getting the proper justice here, and his number is getting retired, and he gets to see it. It's it's a nice thing. And so I'm happy for Dick Allen. And his family and and the people that have been working to get attention for him in his career for a long time. Congratulations to all of them. It's a great step hopefully gets in the Hall of Fame this year, we'll see. But With that being said, if you want to join the show to 1559 to 94 94. "My only reservation about al boom and I think it's in him and I think it will come eventually is the ability to consistently get the ball into gaps. And drive the ball and as a corner infielder, whether he's playing third base, which I know that's where the fillies want him today or first days of Reese. Austin's continues to struggle. I just I'm not absolutely sold on his ability over 162 games to be a 30 homerun type guy, but I think he's a good player from a makeup standpoint. We checked all the boxes and like I said, I think he's an advanced for his age. And the fans will like what they see from him. Okay, well, there's some positivity there. "We have a very interesting pitching matchup this evening, obviously, we have Vince Alaska's for the Phillies. Who is coming off which was his worst outing of the season where allow just three runs on six hits in three and two thirds worked at a very high pitch count in that three one loss to the Detroit back on the final day of April four the season two point seven three ERA that is for Vince Velazquez that is spectacular with a one point two to whip he'll be paired up against miles. Michael Michael us a righty for the the cardinals. Now, he's Michael this is coming off his best outing of the season. Which was a I believe as a win over the nationals of five to one win. I believe he gave up just a run on seven hits four strikeouts. In a walk in six innings pitched. However, he already for the season not spectacular four point seven three looking back at some of his earlier outings for the season. He doesn't go very deep and gives up on an average of about three runs. Those other outings. He had just had one that kind of boosted CRA into the fours. So we'll see how this plays out the Phillies lineup. We'll get to in the next segment, which is they went through their drought. But it certainly appears like they're they're getting out of it. I've heard the many times him relief pitcher doesn't pitch very well. In the first inning Vinnie's been here now for three plus years three full seasons and this year. Many times he pitches the way he did in his last outing. You might remember at the trade deadline and twenty seventeen they almost traded him to the Rangers for Joey Galloway. But the Rangers turn that Dale down. Then he's not gonna get any better less. Share cape. Capless motto was be both Kappler. I mean, clan tag has to be both. They can't keep throwing this guy out there. Every five games. She called kill the bullpen. He's going to kill our team. He's never gonna be good. He's never going to reach that promise that potential the sooner they get rid of Vinnie. The better off they'll be, you know, this is what's tough Bob because he's your fifth starter and fifth starters are always going to be works in progress that you know, if you get three if they if you get three and six. Innings you should be happy with that fifth starter, I realized that especially with Velazquez and the lack of attention paid to starting pitching this off season. You know, how this is always going to be a cloud over your head. When you're looking at Velazquez and hoping hoping hoping hoping I remember having this specific question conversation with Pete McKinnon, a two years ago and talking with him about Velazquez and commenting to him how much longer you going to go through this. He works up such a high pitch count. He's always trying for the strikeout. He kills he taxes. Your bullpen all the points that you brought up and he would always interrupt me and say, listen, you're all you're right about all of that. However, he has some of the best stuff on our staff and in if we can teach him to control it he can end up being one of your best three starters in theory. And that's why he's still here about all e costs. Mckenna his job among other things. And at times, the Phillies fans, we get so frustrated at times. You believe they don't even have a pitching coach. And that they don't have to hitting coaches. It's so frustrating they can play so poorly. And tonight, I body. I mean, most people cannot enjoy the game. I believe when Vinnie Velazquez by certainly makes the game on a longer doesn't it? You can always count a three hour fifteen minute plus game when Velasquez starting, but Jerry, I mean now you're discussing aspects of the game of baseball that you know, some fans have been complaining about for some time. Now, nothing's going to change. You know, if you're the Phillies, they'll stick with that same mindset, they're just hoping Velazquez can find it out before that time comes and goes, and they have to figure out what to do with him other than being their fifth starter. Dan, don't go.

"Sola tonight, we're presented by progressive insurance. And there's going to be a lot of conversation about thirteen years about what all of it means. It's been reported this point that it's a thirteen year deal. It has not been signed yet. But it's been agreed upon for three hundred and thirty million dollars for Bryce Harper is I've been saying all night. It means the Phillies become the first team in major league baseball history to add three skill position players in one off season that we're all stars the year before staggering aggressiveness from the Phillies unin deal. That's been on the table for quite a while. Now, something obviously sweetened the deal. And no matter what at this point. We're paying so much attention to the Phillies. I spent the whole break. Look at it. Phillies care me. Mean, I knew Phillies retro gear was good. I didn't know Philly's curry gear was so good. I don't have a favorite baseball team. I don't think it's wrong for me to just decide. Like, Bryce, Harper's got great hair. They're aggressive. You're spending money. I mean, I want to spend money on teams that spend money kind of make sense to me. And I think I think this is going to lead to a lot of wins. So for once in my life, I can support a team that wins a lot of games. Like, this is a pretty good a pretty good strategy and I can buy Harper jersey. And for once it's going to be good for thirteen years. I still got that Khalil Mack. Jersey sitting in my closet, forcing tears returned here. Derek Carr jersey. Derek Carr trade rumor come up I look over. My there's another one gone. I don't have to worry about that. If it become a Phillies fan. And this is where we are. And yeah, anybody anybody out there one a used Manziel Browns jersey, we got him or an Alouette jersey. I mean, we've got all the Menzel jerseys you could possibly want. There's a real conversation about the next thirteen years, and what it means to have a long deal long-term deal like this. But it's not about that. This is Philly. And this is a new Philly, and this Philadelphia Phillies team isn't worried about the end of it. They're worried about the now Jeff passan ESPN major league baseball insider was on the Wilkin show. He said a great check this out. This deal's not about the last five years..

And so what do you know, he's watching college football on a laptop and no one place he series. No one is in this place. And I'm going, are you kidding me? P roses said you're watching college football. He's down. It was like half glasses on and Milas in there. Oh my God. This is like some walking in does act. Like, I don't know. And I clearly have just like Gideon silent killer. Look, and I do like how could I beat him? And so I was like I was looking at the phone if they were charging one hundred bucks a photo. That's ridiculous. Well, all money goes to him and. Gambling money. And that's how it keeps us residents. Young. The rent. Yeah. He began was one hundred bucks, y'all. He keeps his residency. I think that's what I attach. I'm just waiting on like Pete's picks. As like a Twitter page is like these are Pete Rose's picks for the day. If he wouldn't arrive, we we gotta cut that we're going to do that. Now, we're gonna we're gonna make a Twitter exceeds picks. Get a livestream twitch. So anyway, we so I walk over to. Hey, pete. You know, the guy kind of stands up like kind of protecting. Hey, you're gonna get a picture that was like AP minor league pitcher in the Phillies organization, just wanted introduce, myself, and ios ios. Come on over. No one's in this place. Komo read them talk to. And I was like I gotta be honest, my dad's a huge fan. You know, you might get an autograph somehow, someway, and I was like I'm not really looking to pay a hundred bucks. I know it goes to. I know it goes to you like, I'm not dumb like I I'm used to this. I know how this works. And he goes he has is not just go pick up a photo. If anyone tells you anything say still told you go out and photo brought it back to them. And the oh, so you're in the Phillies organization. Here's what level react was like I was triple last season. He goes. Yeah. How was your ear? I said, I think it was pretty good. He goes what were your numbers? I was like started telling him. He's looking at me the jaw like kinda dropped he goes. And you didn't get fucking called up. The Phillies are so fucked up right now God start dying. I started dying because this is Pete Rose. Yeah. Thinking like. Want to swear? But those aren't his exact words Pete's Pete Rose, and it wouldn't if anyone were to meet him like everyone's like, yeah. I wouldn't put a pass him to say that you know, and say about what? And it's just crazy to me because we started talking. We started talking about hitting you know, throw fastball change curve slider. And I was like, but I'm I'm a fastball changeup guy. I really wanted to throw my change open. He goes, I'll be honest not is the toughest piss you asked anyone in pro baseball major league baseball. Former current, you know, doesn't matter who you talk to that is the toughest push him baseball. If you gotta get change up in the ios. A sounds like you got your wits about you. And I was like that. So he gave me some some advice, and I'm gonna keep that to myself. I'm just gonna not spoil that. 'cause I don't want anyone else to use it. Then it's yours. But like it was amazing. Just sitting there we talked for like thirty forty five minutes, and he signed a little photo for my dad. I brought it back to them..

"Potential thirty five million dollar a dollar a year deal with a guy who could be sliding into some sort of a mediocre talent or mediocre numbers. It's just to me. It's it's sort of crazy to think that you're going to put this much money into to one potentially two guys. And I just think not only I think the Phillies aren't going to get it. Because I think there's other factors Machado potentially returning to the dodgers. And and like I mentioned before Harper going to the cubs. I just think it may not be the best move finance going forward. Quick untimely comment here not about this Klay. Thompson has broken the NBA record for the most threes in a single game. Ten in the first half early in the early in the second half. Unreal. Okay. Yes. Look, you mentioned three very good players there. It's and it's. Do we have to pay Hoskins thirty five million dollars a year right now? No. But you mentioned that Bryce Harper is proven. And the bigger fact here is the free agency works, and you know, that guys get paid when they hit free agency, especially when they changed teams through free agency. It's the nature of the game. And it's what you have to do if you want to acquire top talent like Harper Machado. And you know, what gimme all three. And thank God Hoskins is going to be cheap for another couple of years. So we can afford it that works for me. I don't I don't I'm not going to say no to Bryce Harper. Just because Hoskins is in the lineup. You know, this is this Phillies team that has the same aggressive feel as that didn't twenty twenty seven when they looked ready to make big moves in hopes of World Series berths. They look ready. They look eager and they have money to spend plus the relationship with that put them in the driver's seat. Here the Phillies want to announce to the rest of baseball that there are team to be reckoned with. And I believe that they'll sign one if not both of these guys in pursuit of their of major league baseball relevance and World Series berth. Ninety seconds. On what what did they make that were huge free agent splashes in two thousand and seven that over the edge of the I mean, I'm not that playoffs. I'm not saying specifically just free agent signings..

"Then we tried to get Machado in July that didn't happen. Now. We have this lady on bell situation that we keep looking for. And that's not happening. There's just this feeling that everything is going to fall into place in the Phillies building and building. And we're gonna we're perfectly live for Machado and end Bryce Harper. And it's just not gonna work out for the Phillies. There's too many other factors. There's too many things and a guy like Harper's spent all this time on the nationals sky wants to win now and this Phillies team even with him isn't ready to do that. There's just no doubt about it. So to me, that's probably the one of the biggest reasons the fact, the Phillies aren't ready and even by adding these guys they won't be ready to win RLS address us first. Points. Yes. Lebron James did not come to the Philadelphia. Seventy sixers. He decided he wanted to be a movie star and build his brand quite Leonard was not a free agent. He was traded to another team. Leon bell is not insured to anyone yet. I can see one of those three the others points. Chris. I don't know what that means regardless. So with their four-games two one win over the dodgers. The Boston Red Sox. Make the case is one of the best teams in baseball history. Right. And now we got to free agency providing teams of a chance to narrow the gap between them in the Red Sox November third players at the chance to start signing with other teams and free agency in this year's crop. Like, you said, it looks really interesting. It looks like it's going to be one that is really hotly contested that brings us to the Phillies. This is a team with deep. Pockets giant ambitions and only sixty eight point nine million dollars committed to their twenty nineteen payroll. You say we can't have nice things. I remember a lot of nice things that have come to the Philadelphia Phillies and free agency. I don't think you can argue with that this. If we're talking about the big the big four sports teams in Philadelphia, and I will even concede the flyers in that group against my wishes the Phillies have been the team that did the best job of bringing in premier talent. Last summer. We heard that there across down brothers the seventy Sixers for star hunting and make no mistakes. The Sixers the Phillies are star-hunting as well only. They have the resources to succeed where the Sixers fell short the Phillies are team on the rise. And the first season new skipper, Gabe Kappler. They were certainly up and downs. No one's going to argue that. But at the end of the day, they looked looked like a team that was a year ahead of where we thought they were and that they're going to be ready to compete earlier than expected. You mentioned this. You're right. They faltered down the stretch the second half. We'll really the second half of the second half was kind of brutal. But I would argue that was really the lack of all that held them back. And I'm confident that the deal has. You know, this team has their eyes on offense stars like Harper Machado or both them to cure that problem. Sure their payroll is low, but are you willing to potentially put together sixty plus million combined free of these guys on a yearly basis? We already saw the issues that Machado had in Los Angeles this year in the postseason, whether it's his talk about not being a hustle guy or the dirty play that happened in the NFC s with the brewers first baseman. It seems like that's an attitude that may not fly with a guy like Kappler who's already had his run ins with a player. Like Jubal Herrera who was prone to do some of those lack of hustling plays that we saw from Chato in the postseason, and Chris I don't want to continue to disparage the flyers in two thousand two they made that huge trade for Tonia Monte who was way past as prime. We can't get that the flight risk grab the flyers were always willing to spend money under Ed Snider, they just spend it in the wrong ways every single time and never got a goalie..

"Sign up bonus. All right. We're back. Gregory tell me why hearts are going to be broken in Philadelphia. This winter why are the Phillies gonna miss out on Bryce Harper and Manny Machado? Well, here's the fake. I think it's because everybody actually get some sort of foregone conclusion. Everybody has the Phillies as betting favorites to land. Not just Bryce Harper. But also Manny Machado even money odds to get Bryce Harper. At least they were as earlier today, and they were plus one fifty to land Machado easily the best odds of anybody for both guys. And here's the thing. The reason why they're not going to get either of them because the Phillies have bigger problems than just their line-up, plus Philadelphia as fans we're just not allowed to have nice things. It's just how this works. It'd be great. If it would work out where we would get two of the bigger names and free agency, arguably the two biggest depending on what happens with Clayton Kershaw. You're talking about two guys who anywhere in your lineup can solidify what you're putting together with a team that competed basically all year until September collapse. But let's be honest for some reason these big name guys don't come to Philadelphia. Let's take a look we had the year and a half to two year watch for LeBron James now that turn out has house, Los Angeles treating you. Then there was the collide Leonard sweepstakes didn't win that one either..

"We did not see coming. Let's start there. We'll start the Phillies. Why not? I guess it's kind of general that the Phillies are in the position they are in. That's something a lot of us to Nazi coming. No. And they, they had tied the reds for the most losses last years. And so you know, like what we saw it common in that they did it the right way. They brought kids up. They let them, they put them in a learning environment. They let him suffer and fail and succeed in all those things. And you knew it was gonna turn a corner at some point. I mean, they they had a plan, but I don't know, you know, they won the injured. Dave already surpassed are about to surpass last year's when total, which they didn't get to until September last year obviously. So yeah. And you know, with the thing, I don't know if there's one thing that surprised me after we seen them long enough, you're no longer surprise, but the way that pitching's held up and when you have a bunch of young guys, you think, okay, those boys are gonna hit a wall. Those voice have not hit a wall Nola and pa- Vada and Velazquez pitching better than ever in into in heaven. Jake Arrieta. At the top, I'm sure sets tone in terms of work ethic and they're fun team to watch in. You know, like just set the numbers aside when you watch Nick Williams and Reese Hoskins and Mikhail Franko and those guys they, these are guys that think they belong. And I, you know, that pose well, I do. I still think than Washington nationals are gonna win the National League east every time you watch the Phillies or Braves, yearly, certainly less Europe. Yeah, absolutely. The, it's I think the most fascinating division race going down the stretch because there's there's no bad story to come out of that if national storm back, that's a great story in its own weird way. And of course, if the Phillies are win winning, that's pretty great story too. But shout out to Pat Nick, six months ago. I was talking to Pat Nisha in the Phillies clubhouse in spring training. And he said, quote, last year was kind of messy, but I feel like we're way of headed way ahead of where Houston was in twenty fifteen. He was on that Astros club in twenty fifteen that stormed to the wildcard. He said, quote, I know they have the money to add if we start winning and the analyst isn't that great this year. So Nisha knew he knew way before any of us that this Phillies team could be something special, but richer. Let's talk about some other revelations. How about the Pittsburgh Pirates? Right? I mean, that's definitely a revelation that was a club that was roundly dismissed at the beginning of the year for having traded Garrett. Cole, having traded Andrew mccutchen to their franchise faces loan, behold, and even was easy to dismiss them even after their great run at the start of the season because they quickly fell back down to earth. I think they lost thirty one of forty five at one point, but then they kinda put themselves back in that very cumbersome, complicated complex, an wildcard, picture and loan and made a deal for Chris Archana that, yeah, to go from forty and forty eight now to be to have one of the best records in baseball since then. And you know, like the idea that they all season would disaster that they trade Garrett Cole, they traded Andrew mccutchen. And the whole thing's going to hell that just that was a good narrative I made for good talking points on sports radio and all that..

"That's that's quite all right as far as like he's not been in the league not fresh fresh rookie or something like that are quasi rookie like reese hoskins is but tim ries hoskins they got cesar hernandez is playing really well i mean they got a lot of players who've been kind of toiling around in that phillies phillies team it's not very good now finally they got their pitching pitching figured out with noah in i mean they have been till ask is who's throws of those absolute bullets i mean velazquez came over in that deal from the from the astros for ken giles on the really making a push for the playoffs so there's been definitely a lot of a lot of good trades going on when it comes to the phillies and now they're trying to transition from ryan howard jimmy rollins chase utley led phillies team to a younger team where you have now obviously reese hoskins we'll herrera trying to think of more obviously they got the thing is they did get some get some veteran talent and there's well of carl's got carlos santana from the from the indians right yeah from the indians last year and i know he's holding down at first base for them with hoskins playing out in left field is they're both hidden really well guy gazi aaron altea air farro behind the plate i mean all these guys kind of just you know just hitting the ball in the cover off the ball all over the place so the unlike the fact of your phillies fan you weren't expecting to be good maybe more year way we're always these teams that are your way that are maybe like okay they're actually going to be good this year they're they're already seven games over five hundred they just sweat the giants in four games and that's not really saying much but that's what happened i mean they've won twenty two and fifteen the what's nothing wrong with that nothing wrong at all at that the only problem is you seek out to see if the historian it they got us sustain it with these young players.

"Ability seriously in so gathering information from from all possible sources including our efforts in our department was part of the process in in those major signings was going to be the softball question i know to softball question but when i've talked to phillies people before under the the sort of newer regime one of the things that's come up time and time and time again is just how much of a family feel the front office feels like a hold of the the organization is just warm and accommodating and i dunno loving even just across the board supportive and you think of how you might picture like a analytical i front office for some other baseball organization you think you know unfeeling robots like you do but the phillies seemed to have built just this network of really strong relationship so the softball question builds on that but essentially has has this been your experience when you were coming in did you expect to receive the sort of support and familial feel that it sounds like you and pretty much everyone else's received yeah so you know growing up phillies fan e kind of there's a sense that there's a like a family field to the phillies organization and joining the the front office i kind of figured i'd find out the real story but a but it's true it's a fantastic group of people you know beyond just baseball perations but throughout the front office in it's something that is really important that we're going to maintain people think about it keep it in mind during hiring processes to make sure that this is someone that fits culturally in will be another positive source of energy in the front office also that my my very first day my boss got friedman took me around the baseball perations department introduced me to everybody in so we kind of walked around here all the way down the hall is where andy macphail the president is in we got down his office and he was on the phone so didn't meet him then.

"Hello and welcome to episode one thousand two hundred six of the fact of the baseball guess band grabs baseball podcast at that brought to you by aarp transport is i am of celebrate and restaurant is always been lindberg of ringer then i missed thursday in baseball what's happening yet you and i were just talking before we hit record about how quickly you can feel disconnected from baseball if you don't follow it for a day and it happens to be a day when they're a lot of games and things happen especially if your job is to write about those things then it can very quickly feel like you are out of touch well some things happened yesterday we're about to talk to philadelphia phillies employee and friend of ours crin landry formerly offend graphs and many other sites she now works for the phillies front office and we will ask her about that transition from writing to working for a team the felice themselves are coming off pretty good game jake arrieta pitched seven shutout innings the phillies won seven nothing that's the latest in phillies land otherwise i think all the teams that were supposed to win one yesterday which has been a rarity the season i feel the red sox are sixteen and two while the reds are three and fifteen so yes i there's the sense it's not entirely true but like we came into the season thing okay we have these contenders in than we have these teams are not even thinking about winning and it's like if gone to the extremes like all of them have just kind of on in one direction or the other where it's been like almost immediately apparent who's supposed to be a contender and who's just like we don't we don't care about the season so i know that's not the braves of hidden the phillies are playing really well in the tigers aren't as terrible as expected them to be yet but i mean my god the reds have been miserable the red sox are they can't lose their hitting the crap out of the ball.
