Pete Erickson: Will AI Create the Smart Home of the Future?
"If you look at google. Amazon rolled out similar technology with making suggestions for the consumer about. Hey we've noticed the following behavior or the following pattern. Do you want to automate that. Would you like that just happened and if we can do in that way we believe that's much better way to be able to interact with the consumer in a way that shouldn't alarm them should concern them. They won't get nervous about Those things happening so And machine learning we think are going to continue to move forward and ashley push us or bite significantly on the smart smart home in the future The other thing is that things are things are becoming more connected. Not less connected. We'll just continue to see that everything that that comes out has some connection and even not for control. It's for monitor. i wanna understand. What is the energy consumption of these devices. Sure can be living more more ecologically by having those things only operate during these times of the day that could help the power grid could help my energy savings help. The energy cost savings alone. Eric what are the things that those that these devices could do and then having nadal running in the background to to live the best i possibly can on saving. Conserving were possible to To also help planet so those are all things that we think are are certainly on their way incoming today while i certainly can appreciate especially the the efficiency i think our homes are Are incredibly inefficient. The way that we're running them today And and look forward to How ai machine learning can really just help. Help us create The most efficient way we can live in a reduced usage and Actually improve experience at the end of the day. And i think that's one of the things i i i hear coming out of this talk. Is that really. It's about improving our experience. The experience in our homes or even possibly where we work in terms of like our lighting our our Our surroundings the sounds that are surrounding us. our ability to interact and control. And you know it's it's funny. I always go back to the Kinda the text messaging a revolution. That happened When we went from using our voice to to a synchronous texting a lot of people couldn't imagine that that would actually happen that that voice calls would one day be you know would would not be the primary way that we would communicate and i think the same thing is going to happen with our home is just the way that we interact and communicate with our home's gonna change. We can't imagine right now not going to odile or opening up an app and then controlling that app. But but we're not. I think already there. It just hasn't ruled out yet on on on a broad basis but it certainly it's exciting. I think that The the home of the future is a is a place that does lend itself to just a better experience overall and What i really appreciate. What you said is a healthier
Pete Erickson: Analyzing the Room for Conversational Assistants in Daily Life
"Certainly see a day when you will invite a conversational assistant as a third party to the conversation and allow them to Capture data capture biometric data capture information. That is sensitive and also highly relevant to doing verification so the conversation can flow freely between the two humans without putting the cognitive load on the customer service agent who's attempting to maintain a relationship and a positive call experience as opposed to like collecting the nuts and bolts You know there's still a large number of consumers that prefer to do banking in person or on the phone Very large. I think larger than most anticipate expect. And so you know. There's still a lot of opportunity to add intelligence into that conversation and leverage the technology a voice to bring it full circle and And so. I think that there's certainly some some benefits there. What erica is to. Bank of america is huge. It's certainly the trend. That banks are if not applying practically implementing like thinking about spending a lot of time thinking there. 'cause there's a lot of opportunity to improve mobile experience especially when you think about adaptability. There's there's a lot of value there but But yeah we'll see we'll see we'll see how much investments going to pour into the space Over the next few years i think the customer servicing and those types of use cases probably be the majority of the investment over the next two to three years. And then we'll see certainly agree with you there. I think. I think i think the customer service the whole that whole industry is is teeming with teaming with opportunity in the in the boys tech industry and there is a lot of focus in that market both from the major players but then also allow third party platforms and developers and folks as service the call centers bases you know stay tuned for a lot of innovation in those areas.

I don't trust myself I, treat myself like a ticking time bomb a fragile person who can't be alone. I treat others as my lifeline doing whatever I can to please them so that they will take care of me. Huge because of course, you can't handle yourself. Yeah. So I really when I'm like being. So that's GonNa blow a lot of. Wingers off. My intention. I. Just. Can't relate to that like a deep down feeling I can't handle who I am or I can't handle life. I'm too overwhelmed. All merge amy whatever somebody even if it's a bad person in my life, I'll just be like justice. And my therapist would say. That if probably comes from the instinct, child has to please their parents because they know that they are their survival is dependent. Like I have a very I can really identify like all of this is coming from I would say my child self who feels small and incapable and I do have apparent self who? Comes in and is like no we can handle this. We're grown ASS woman and I've got you know. But yeah. So when you're in your child self a Lotta Times, it's you're still trying to. or I'll speak for myself. I'm still trying to please everyone. kind of as a way of being like I need you. I need you to take care of me. What am I doing with the guy that I perceived to be boosted up? Why was it so threatening to me that he was unstable because I need him. Because if he's not stable, how can he take care of me? I didn't even know that I was thinking that was like this guy needs to take care of me. I might think he's unsafe, but that means even by not attacking me I suppose that's keeping me safe but my safety is still in his possession you're giving that's the key to all of this is. That's what I mean. Is it square? So How old are you? I. I would say thirty four now. Okay. Yeah you moved decade. McKay you're saying this is the key is that it is so empowering because otherwise you are giving other people full power Valerie, full power to torture. You. got. Goes back to our point. It's not taking abuse. It's realizing where the abuses coming from and it's coming from. UNCONSCIOUS, unexplored beliefs like I need other people to like me is a is a big one or it matters if he thinks I, smell. Does it I know you think it does because we've been it's been reinforced to instagram and comment or whatever. But way before that. Yeah. But why Valentine's did you get in your desk? That seems like real one for you I went to such a hippie. So I think everybody had to give you one I feel. So nostalgic and cousy when I think of those Valentine's we my mom I would be. On the edge, they were torn out of a sheet. Out of a sheet, often like the one sheet ones the ones that there were like cheap ones. Tariff like stamps. Those ridges yes. I'm with you. I was picturing like an intentional. Border. which better I know the world is I mean? These are. I I. It's hard to get in touch when people are like everything's on fire when you're at the airport and there's like a massage place and they're like a Vino Volos when you're like 'cause nick and I were walking aggressive Vullo and I was like I know the economy's this is a while ago we're going to I. know the economy is going through a thing right now but that's a sushi place at the airport that looks pretty good. And people are in it. You know what I mean. Of course that's dumb on an investigative. There's a lot of people that aren't at the airport that aren't evenings. But the the jokes, the jokes stands joke stand. This aggression won't stand gates COMEDIANS and parked cars. And one of them sometimes sipping coffee. Okay. I'm almost done with this Who would you be without the thought? At ease strong, safe connected. self-assured steady, peaceful, grounded, light, joyful contended self-rule for. Self reliant yeah. So the turnaround is there were two. I won't fall into major depression and have another attack. I didn't fall into a major depression and have any panic tugs meaning that's in the past. That's not now that's gone nuts paper. It. Didn't exist like why you've heard me tell the story of this so much and I just admitted that every time I tell this story I get a little bit flushed and re traumatized and. And sweaty. So I'm doing that to myself I. Think it's like when you go when I go on twitter and you're sort of subconsciously looking for a negative comments said, we want to lick nine volt battery just to know that we're here. Yes. Like any means necessary the egos just like don't think you are at home here. Don't think you are everything go thank you are one with everything I'll do anything I can to make you feel separate even to the point of torturing him because the ego wants exists so much and it doesn't exist unless. It's separate. That's right. So it's it's only interested separation. You might divorce for example, is like, of course I reheated that over and over and over again it was it was your identity and everybody can relate to this everybody. Knows that person mine was at Church? When we tell give our testimonies there was one girl Linda Linda would always mill Kerr testimony from what I where I was sitting and she loved that Oh, yeah, would always sit in the corner in mind socked it was like I was born into a Christian homes how you hated it. Didn't get to tell a good story and Linda, would cross her legs and just be like. Nineteen eighty two and like with the story of some accident or whatever it was and I was like Linda. I've watched you tell this fifty times but that's what we're all doing what I was doing. In fact what I didn't like about Lyndon that moment was at my ego didn't have a good story to be like have you heard the way of the Samurai Well let me tell you. It's no joke and if you wrong them on their land, they will hunt you. You know what I mean would've loved to be able to do that. You should have done that anyway. Jim Alber. Oh. So the last turn around. And I know this isn't necessarily exactly what the turnarounds for but I think it works sometimes I just turn them into affirmations. So the last one I have is.

"Hate your mind or even think that it is like the thing that's keeping you from. From Bliss and if you could just get control of it like that's not what this is you Katie. Says she. She doesn't have anything that you don't also have. She just realizes that she has it and it's not about controlling the mind it's about understanding. Exposing a mind. And then it loses its power. Should he share one of mine? Okay. So there if you are interested in this, there's An APP for it, it's just called the work APP and it's a really great way to. Do it. It just takes you through the questions. In conjunction with reading loving would is, yeah is there and I would say, definitely start with loving. What is read the other books leader the starting with. Leading what is helps you understand the work and and really you should start with dianetics. This always sounds like. The ideograms on. So thankfully. Okay, where can you do? So this is I hope somebody can relate to this. Sure. He can. The the belief that I have is I will fall into a major depression or have a panic attack again. Because that happened to me three years ago for a two weeks period but it was so scary and I felt like I had no control over it. So I flip been living for the last three years. Vaguely and fear always that it'll happen. Somebody I saw somebody we asked for questions somebody asked about psychedelics and I was like. We've talked about it a couple of times maybe but you. You took too much. For A to to smallish doses but to many in a small amount of time. Yeah and then you just completely. had. No. Is it Saratoga. Serotonin and dopamine both I think got completely had. So. Talking to you talking to a car with no tires it was just the metal things sparking on the asphalt was so. I think to this day like we've avoided watching stranger things things that are even not some stranger things or in the shadow monster overtakes. Because it did feel very much. Upside down. And I was in the sunken places felt and I hope this like. Doesn't scare anybody who bit maybe even offers solidarity, but it felt so much like I am falling into pure darkness and despair and I'm all alone in here. And I can see pete and other people trying to help me but nothing they do. Can help because they're out there and I'm in here. Terrifying. but I can actually tell the work has helped with this because usually that that was so traumatic that I would be like getting sweaty and anxious even talking about this right now. So. So yeah, it was really scary and then I would have like six hour long panic attacks and And I just like felt like I was. Gone panic was this is too long. The most woody Allen Panic. Panicking People are going to. I'm trained hog the spotlight. Okay. So I will fall into major depression or have panic attack again. Number one is it true? Yes. Prevent an all cats though I think they are. All? CAPS. Can you absolutely? No, it's true. Well, no. Because when you sit with it and you're like, I guess I don't know I can't know anything about the future. It's true. How do you react what happens when you? When you believe I thought. I am terrified I mean, this is real vulnerable. Matt. That's good right. Under the. Physical. I wasn't good. No. Vulnerability. React. When you believe that that I am terrified in crying like a scared child who feels all alone I feel like I can't take care of myself and then I am separate and alone and have no control over what happens to me. Does that thought? Bring you peace or stress the next one the stress. What images do you see? Pastor Future. What physical sensations arises you think? That Fahd and witnesses images. So there's like more it goes more in depth than the APP. I was a latchkey kid. So being home alone waiting for my mom to come home and being afraid that she got into a car accident. having no having a panic attack in San. Francisco and the doctor saying there is nothing they could do for me because I happen. Sitting on my porch I remember sitting on the porch and like feeling not falling feeling. and like no one outside of me do anything or save me. And I feel a contraction in my throat and chest chest sinking feeling in my stomach. So I really think that that part is important to like she says over and over this as a meditation, it's not. There's a way to just like kind of think the answers and be really quick with it and I have done that and it does it doesn't work and you need to write down the reason you read it down is because you want to catch it. Yeah. Like I minor even more absurd. So I'll do one. Briefly mentioned one afterwards but like you have to catch your thought. As. In its nakedness in, it's like complete childish insanity. Yeah and then you have to get really still. Because you're kind of starting, you have to quiet the mind to actually see it clearly I think is a really good way to look at it. Because the mind will start to defend its position of course, it will it'll be I don't mean it like that. That, you you said that I've said. I'm over here. I gotta go. that's why she said sometimes, people will try to give longer answers for the first two questions and she's like they have to be one word because otherwise it becomes. Defending. Your. Position. Yeah. and so sitting in feeling that I think it's really important I'm like I, I I still very much believe in embodiment and being in your body and feeling your feelings and noticing them and the sensations and I don't think this contradicts it I think this question is where you really. And Jack Cornfield would save like feel the feeling in an invited to expand. And you'll see as it expands it. Softens. And it's to sort of a way of looking at the monster underneath bed and realizing it's just it's just a sensation in your body. So then what emotions arise when you believe that thought terror sadness fear anxiety feel disconnected. Disappointed lost. do I love this one? Do any obsessions or addictions begin to appear when you believe that thought?.

"And nobody would die every bite forgetting it cuts your mouth just every bite fresh new. Oh my gosh. I would love that would be the first thing I did it final estimate if you Remember. Match. You hear a car running. We're in a car. Parked in a car because we're hiding from our child. She's. came. Today. And that's boring. I just bought myself. Yeah? I. Wanted to be in this car with you. Right. Now, our child doesn't exist because she's not in our perception in this room and. You're so good. That's why so Rhonda sorry have a shot of Whiskey Pete. Rammed. Home. But nobody's mad at me for. The one guy is Ramnah says that's why you don't want to give it up. That's the dark night of the soul. As you realize that waking up is losing the highs and lows. It's losing the the story of how dare you fucking say that to me to jump ahead. One of the things that I did the work on I listened to her on Russell Brand's podcast, which was just excellent. Katie listened to Katie Byron Katie on Russell's podcast. And first of all is very just impressed with how Great Russell is I people are GonNa Laugh but I was like going to try and learn from him. He he's he is just as adrenalizing Ontai, think and Think I just have to say thank to get into. What do you think but he still manages to do like a very clear. Anyway. I don't want to beat myself up, but I was impressed with that. Was Really Cute and why do I bring it up? So Tired I. Know he she on on on that podcast was saying that like? Listen to this and tell me listeners everybody town me Weirdos if there's doesn't light up your ego, if you don't know what your ego is about to light it up I bet. If someone if This morning. I said to you Valerie you smell shit. I'm tired snow in that Yogurt Shit like a guy who only to yogurt and the shit and it's in the sun and that's what you smell like. Kim, this specific. Just like shit is like well, definitely I know I don't, but then Yogurt Dixon involved. An Extra Pungent Gilbert is disgusting to begin with Yeah I don't eat yogurt or should. I don't like frozen yogurt they should have called it something else I. You are the queen of my life. Yogurt award that sounds like Alan Rickman swallowed something wrong. You're. Go into. The giant. From your girl. Hungry just like A. Are used to. Get The word yogurt out my desert I don't care if you made it with yogurt also made with is called Horse Cliff jiggled treat. Gert Girls. Don't even start with Gobert. Yogurt on the go great ellen. Degeneres. That just like I, can't I just opened a yogurt I'd love to go out I'm in for the night. Yogurt. Is. So good and all angles you could get it Gobert I now Gobert. One is it sounds like what you say in the bedroom, I'm GONNA, go? Curtain. That's where I go with Gogo. That's why there's an argument to be made clean comedy. Certainly I love dirty county but Allen. She knows Gogarty. SORTA sounds like like it's cheap does just say it sounds like a sex move. She was like Yeah It's funny that yogurt was always to go thing. Yeah. The concept of it is funny. The name is funny too but she she's like say the name and people will laugh they don't even know that they're laughing because the name is just silly and then Onto. That's the that's the generous genius. So so if I said, something mean to you this morning get forget it was that. And then the next day I walk in and I'm just happy and Val. And your still replaying and projecting onto me the guy that said, you smell like yogurt, shit? Your insane. Yes. That's what she would say. This is what sticky this is fun. Everyone listening including me when I first heard that was like, Hey, don't strip me of justice Sir or my right to hold onto that story and go fuck you you say selection that's what our whole society is. Fuck you is that I feel like yogurts. and. She's saying I don't care. She's basically do you WanNa be right or do you want to be free? And Ramdas adds to that. You have a you think you want to be free but the first step to wanting to to waking up and becoming free is admitting that you do not. You in quotes you have no interest in being free. You free. means. Hayes. Shit next morning. Hey Pete, good morning because you're not you have no past you have no future. You are in love with the moment and you're enthralled and you're locked in and your in connection. Ego She. was making this point, which is just a theory real thing that for some reason really wants to be like an object. So tries to become like a real boy like Pinocchio. All these versions and attractions. And it can't. Dumb, ASS, fool's errand and that's what the way the work people realize. Like you know what? I mean. Realized I'm starting to say realized because of. That but. I would. Say. Lease. From Russell and what what does that make you think? We'll make I. Think. It's slipping away in this very moment would always. So. Much. No. Just just turn turn on under the weight we. Okay. So I. Had It's flipping what what did you know what's happening to you right now you're thinking about how it's slipping away and all we need to do is retrace. Got It. Okay. So that's Originally what my resistant to Katie was remember you would read it and and I was like, I, don't think this is for me because I feel like my work in therapy and just over the last several years. Has Been about like like giving using my voice and trusting that that my body has reactions and lose reactions are correct. My feelings are crack correct and they matter in my. Thoughts and opinions are worth voicing and like in standing up for myself using my voice I. Think there's a time. When you agree there is a time for that. It can help with your mental health I totally agree and I think it's I. I was just saying. To a friend today like. An actually she added she's like I think it's important to. Have a step where you learn to really respect those.

"That's gonna like he'll complete great about it. I think I think the mystery is really interesting. And it's enough for me today. Sam I don't know. Sometimes I catch myself going that sounds like wishful thinking the idea that it is a game. And we're going to keep we're going to keep going around and round until we learned something. Right. But then I also there's other times. I don't really care. I'm at a point where I'm like, I don't really care if my brain can make sense of it. I like to say Pete, isn't enlightened. But I am there's something behind my brain. That just goes like look at Pete Demi trying to put words to something that's speak a ball and trying to get their hands around something, that's grabble. And that's all part of it. That's all part of the dance. It's all part of the play. But behind it is something that is so unconcerned with that. Yeah. And my elemental essence doesn't care that I have days where reincarnation sounds like probable and days where it doesn't. I'm not in the business. I used to be of converting my intellect. Sure, I enjoy using my intellect, but he is such a fucking wayward undulating fluctuating changing. It's so what I'm saying is like when pe- was fifteen he was so sure he was that. And when he was twenty five you associate was that he thought fifteen was wrong. And now, I'm thirty nine and I'm so sure on this. They're never right. But what is consistent? It's like we were saying about your career. There's an essence there's a basic awareness behind it all that it just kind of going like look at the fucking show. This this life is chef it's fine. But it's not the fucking point. I'll be here. When when you're ready be here. I think the only thing that can that. I the only reason I'm even constantly thinking about it is because I think of it as like this weird great riddle that it's like there might be an answer. And maybe someone will figure it out. But the second one does figured out all of life is just gonna blink out of existence. But I don't think that that's reasonable or any sort of. I don't know what that's based on. It's just like I don't think about it most of the time. But anytime anyone asks me about them. It's kind of like what let me put all the pieces of this puzzle together and solve it. What's the right answer? But then I'm like, it doesn't matter. And I don't think about it. Why am I trying to solve it in this moment? Yeah. I think that's part of it. I do like to imagine God like up in some weird white space. They think they're gonna get it and get it. Yeah. God is run funches. Right. Of course in this. He's going to walk the USA. I'm in. No you had one either. Go for it. Go for it right now. That's it. That's that confident. I've got the Pete in me. Man, Pete barely has beaten him too. But I'm glad we talked about. Well, I love that. God chat, we happy. Bingo. Good. I love talking to you to talking to you everything you want to promote here at the end. I just got a motorcycle. I do a podcast called punch-up. The jam we. Yeah. New podcast. We basically talk about hit songs. Just go line by line through lyrics. Go like are these lyrics insane. And they more often than not are. Yeah. And then at the end of every episode we have like we do a punch up of it. Which is under the conceit that since the song is crazy..
