"Not quite there something here's Ray in response to what you said. You know, I understand what you're saying about BYU quarterbacks, and there are people who say you know Texas Tech. The air raid offense in college, the Houston type quarterback that That never translates to the NFL. And then there's my homes, you know, And I just, uh I understand the odds are not good, but they're not good on any of these top quarterbacks. It's more likely than not that the first picks are going to bust or just be average, but What is it like? Would you say that Zach Wilson has shown glimpses of something more like something special. I don't know how Andy Reid identified Patrick Mahomes was That special guy, But I do believe now that he is going to be an all timer. Are there glimpses that you see with with Zach Wilson that compare to some of those grates when they were coming out? Well, I wouldn't put him on the same on the same plane as as my home's. Um, I mean, when I was when I started looking at my homes before the draft I didn't see I didn't. I saw very little Texas Tech during that season, and it wasn't much reason to follow because the team wasn't that good. But I kept hearing about Mahomes, Mahomes, Mahomes. And so I started looking at him and I said, Man, this this guy's mean he's he is truly gifted. I mean, you just watched him play and you said, this guy's got really special gifts on it kind of jumped off the screen at you. So I became. I became a real believer in Patrick Mahomes. I guess probably before a lot of other people. Um and it didn't. It didn't really surprise me that Andy was his aggressive as he was and trading up to get him. Ah, because you know, Andy's whole career has been built on quarterbacks and recognizing talented quarterbacks and being able to develop quarterbacks. I mean, he did it with far of certainly did it with Donovan here. Um, He's good at that. That's what he does. And I'm sure he saw in Mahomes the same kind of Just amazing arms are not not not not even strength, but, um, a facility to be able to throw the ball from all sorts of angles with a lot of accuracy, and but not do it in a reckless way. Um, and I think and he just saw miss a man If I get my hands on this guy, you know, I'm set for the next 12 years. It's the idea of shaping throws like people. People think about arm strength being just the ability to zip a throw in. But there are some guys who can actually Like control the flight of the ball as it's going through the air to their got, you know, like shape of throw over or shape a throw past Aaron Rodgers, right?.

"And one of the state's power grid failed millions of Texans during last week's winter storms. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick says he thinks he knows the answer. There was too much Reliance. Seattle Mariners CEO Kevin Mather under fire for comments, releases statement
"Go badly for that team. Generally it does otherwise. That would not be talking about that team. Because they never do anything right. They never do anything good. So if I'm talking about the Mariners, and I'm talking about their president and their CEO, Kevin Mather. He probably did something really stupid. And then he and they are probably about to get wrecked for it. And if I'm talking about the president and the CEO, talking to the Bellevue Breakfast, Rotary Club It's gonna go horribly for everybody, and that's pretty much the result of him running his yap to the Rotarians earlier this month. You see, he was speaking to the breakfast Rotary Club on February 5th. Those comments became public yesterday and immediately went viral. So why is that? It's because, he said, the quiet part out loud and said so on pretty much every single topic imaginable. Like you know, the speech to the Rotary Club where nobody ever says anything noteworthy? You know what's an all timer when you've got a guy like that, having to issue a statement, which includes the following line, and I quote I've been on the phone most of the day today, apologizing to the many people I have insulted, hurt or disappointed in speaking at a recent online event. Unquote at a boy Ste. Hot champ. How the hell could anything that happens at the Rotary Club go so horribly that you have to spend a day apologizing to all the people they even salted and hurt or disappointed. I mean, how dumb would you have to be? How bad would that speech have to be to warrant an apology like that? A statement like that from the CEO of an MLB team answer. Really, really dumb. And a really horrible speech. The hell was this guy thinking anyway? Clearly he wasn't my man's mouth was simply on autopilot. Check out what he said about that stuff about the fact that he admitted there was no way that he was going to call it their top prospects last season. Not because they weren't good enough, but because the team wanted to manipulate this service time if our major league team had had a Cupid outbreak. Or, you know injuries and we had to call people up from the taxi squad. We were a little short on players because there was no chance you were going to see these young players at T Mobile part. We weren't going to put him on the 40 man roster. We weren't going to start the service time clock. There were all kinds of reasons that if we would have had injury problems or a covert outbreak You might have seen my big tummy out there in left field. You would not have seen our young players are prospects playing in T Mobile Park. Check this dude out. I'm gonna gloss over the fact that a grown ass man An adult just used the phrase my big tummy. In public. I mean, normally, that'd be one of the more offensive things in a speech like that doesn't even crack the top 10 here. Honestly, the fact that he's openly admitting to being happy to putting a lesser version of his own team on the field in order to manipulate service time isn't even the most egregious a fence from this dope. I mean, we already know that goes on. We already know that a bunch of major league teams do that. But this moron is the only one admitting it in public and going on record with it. Except he wasn't done. He had more. Like saying that Kyle Seager is quote overpaid and that this would be his last year with the team. Like that's cool. I guess I'm not saying the Seeker has been lighting the world on fire. But maybe you don't hop on a zoom call with the Bellevue Rotary Club and put one of your key players on blast like that. And he wasn't done not by a long shot because he had some thoughts that he wanted to get off his chest about the second ranked prospect in the organization, Julio Rodriguez. Julio Rodriguez has got a personality bigger than all of you combined. He is he is loud he is his English is not tremendous. Good Take, bro. Good. Take Got a huge personality bigger than all of you. But his English is not tremendous. Yeah, I'm sure that's not the first time you've said that and I guarantee it won't be the last. But first he had more than you want to say about Rodriguez, because why merely irritate Why merely irritate one of your best prospects when you can go in on him and really piss him off. Everybody, says 2021. He won't be here till 2022 or 2023. Fantastic kid. Really big on social media. He loves toe. Get out in front. He loves the Mariners. That's a tremendous approach. Right? Everybody says we'll be calling this guy this year. The hell we will maybe next year. And you know what? Maybe even the year after that. Make sure we keep on sucking before he gets here. Why bring him up? You might help us. I love that he chases that with quote. Ah, fantastic kid. Really big on social

The Neurobiology of Peak Performance with Steven Kotler
"So early in the book. Stephen writes that the only thing more difficult than the emotional. Toil of pursuing true excellence is the emotional toil of not pursuing excellence. I thought that was a really striking idea. Sort of starter interview. I asked stephen torn pack that for me. It's not a new idea. Abraham maslow's psychologist in the fifty s by sang. Whatever a person can be they must be humans evolved to go after sort of to rise to their full potential to tap into their full capability and there are significant consequences. If you don't use the system for how it's designed and and that sounds weird. They're eight major causes depression two of them genetics trauma get the most attention on genetics. Alone will never caused depression or anxiety and trauma as a general release to most radic growth not stress. The store on the other six categories are what happens when you fail the optimize intrinsic motivation. The way it's been designed to be optimized and things along those lines to breakdown in saves system that allows us to tackle high hard goals which were built to do. if we don't it starts breaking down on us for with significant consequences. When i read that what i thought and i'm curious what you think about this as okay pursuing true. Sounds like something for the very few like that. Is that is sort of like your olympic athlete. Your see over major company. But i guess what you're saying is this. This is something that needs to be universal. So how how does somebody who you know. Just kind of normal life integrate. The idea of two excellent into their own life an interesting question. I think most of us have singer to that. We do. Maybe falls in the hobby category for us. Prove that for that matter that we would love to be great at. I haven't met too many people who don't have one or two things like that on this essentially the system is built for that and and the handle that capacity. It's interesting on the more important point though is in this is a point. I make throughout the book. Which is the book is about people who are really interested in tackling high hard goals. Right what would we might call through excellence. But it doesn't matter because people form has nothing more or less than getting our biology work for us rather than gets a so. If you want to have an easier time at work on monday to make better decisions on tuesday you want to be a little more productive on wednesday. Maybe some creative problem solving on thursday. Take your pick the same tools that allow us to achieve. pure excellence. Chur excellence are of the same tools that we can use to improve our performance at any level. That's the only toolkit there is which is our biology. You talk about how you came into this world of looking at extreme performance and you use the term extreme innovation and it started out. Interestingly enough wasn't a lab it was in the world of extreme sports and he were journalists covering it so just to get us kind of in your head and how you were called to do this type of work. How did you arrive to the place you are today. I became a journalist in the early nineteen ninety s journalists astounding career. Because you get to kind of exploit your curiosities right anything. You're super passionate about their You you could write about. And i was super passionate about psychology and neuro science predominantly neuroscience fascinated with how humans work and neuroscience seemed to unlock a level of of kind of human mechanism. It was super interesting to me on the other side. I was obsessed with action. Sports adventure sports rock climbing surfing skiing. Snowboarding in the like and this was the early nineteen nineties. These sports were just kind of nascent activities. The gravity games just starting the x. games had just been launched and there weren't a whole lot of writers who knew much about the sports and i did. I was super curious. So i was lucky. Enough to basically spend the better portion of a decade chasing athletes around mountains across oceans. And as you pointed out the nineteen nineties is often considered the great era impossible in action. Sports were more impossible. Feats meaning things that were believe. Never going to happen. Never been done never going to be done. Were just being done. They were being iterating upon and this caught my attention for all the obvious reasons like it. Just it didn't make any sense. Waves that had been twenty five feet at. That was the max we could serve some. They were one hundred feet tall. Like everything was happening Like that across across the board in all these sports so it begged an explanation but more important was that there was a real every man effort to what was going on the the athletes. I knew who are sort of reinventing. The limits of human possibility. They had difficult childhoods came from broken. Homes it very little education the deb. A lot of money is let drugs and alcohol. There was a lot of risk taking. And you know. I knew from the narrow size of the psychology that normally when those things show up in a population you have bad consequences. People go to jail. People die young. What they don't do is reinvent. The limits of human performance over and over and over again and. That's exactly what. I was seeing so that was sort of where this started for me. I wanted to understand what i was looking at

Philadelphia Eagles might actually have more leverage than you think in Carson Wentz negotiations
"Gardner. Great answer rapist. Tremendous answer right there. I mean, John, this idea of drafting a quarterback. I know you kind of push back at me sometimes on it, But isn't it something? If the Eagles Have to at least consider They have to know what you think. I don't consider it that that Jalen hurts from now until 2030 is going to be a top 10 quarterback, and we know that Yeah, I guess. Uh, I hate the idea. I think we are, man. The optics look weird. I mean, they, d O I I recognize that horrendous optics and also I don't think you've got enough to go on with with Jalen hurts, and I think you'll continue to grow. He is. He's got the right mentality to grow into this position. Give him a chance. Give him a year. I If you're going to draft a quarterback don't do it in the first round, you know, maybe I would like to see them bring in an old head veteran and maybe a late round rookie. If you're going to go that route, but Wasting a topic just because you're at number six. Well, you don't know it's late, but you don't know what's wasted. I mean, the guy could be really good. I mean, that's the idea, checking some one of the top 10. Sure, but I don't trust them to evaluate that properly. I say. With the way we draft trade back is often as humanly possible to get as many pixels you can because we need to build with rookie deals across the board with our money problems, and with Our age problems are personnel problems. We have more holes than then you can fill in a draft. That's for sure. And we don't have any money to spend on free agency. You have to trade back. Don't even think about going the quarterback route. They're not going to be evaluated properly this year, and I'm not completely thrilled about the crop. So now I could be way off base there. There are a lot of people who didn't foresee the Patrick Mahomes just chair beauty of his game. When he was coming out. The Eagles were one of them. And this was brought up yesterday, Howie Roseman said Back in 2016 the reason he traded up to draft Carson Wentz is because he had foreseen that there was no talent on the horizon in the next year or two in the quarterback crop. Well, Did. Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes were in the next quarter. I don't know. They said. No talent. I don't really remember. But I assume he would have indicated. I remember him saying something along the lines was of Carson Wentz is the best thing coming along this highway for quite some time enough. I I se you stick and try to develop what you've got. Get it, Get a veteran backup trade back Get lineman linemen and some skilled scums skill. Guys on the defense is one other thing in all this. I would strongly encourage everybody to consider. Which is how it's smart for the Eagles to at least floats. Two teams in the NFL. The concept that they might draft a quarterback is it can increase the Eagles leverage if they want to trade down. So just just recognize that chatter about the Eagles. Taking a quarterback doesn't necessarily mean they're even considering it. It could be a ploy to try to get a team to jump from
Protests Persist In Myanmar Even As The Military Tightens Its Grip On Power
"Saying they'll hand over authority to whomever wins. What they're not saying, though, is when that election will happen. Huge protests are still happening across me and marred by day and by night when police come to neighborhood searching for protesters to arrest Residents turn out banging pots and pans. Many people just want their democracy back. But Myanmar's ethnic minorities say this uprising needs to go much further as the world's Patrick win reports When Stella Naw was a little girl going to school in the hilly northern part of Myanmar, she learned all about the greatness of the Burmese, the country's dominant ethnic group. She learned about their ancient kings, how they built Golden temples and had mighty armies. That was fine. But what about her ethnic group, the kitchen with more than a million people, mostly living in the mountains? Well, the textbooks didn't say much about them at all about the kitchen people with about two lines. We were just learning as we were learning about some people who were extinct, already not totally extinct, the school, said. The kitchen where farmers who like to do this neat dance Stella says that was about it. We were nothing more than some cute people with not much history. This is how the country's military rulers who are all ethnically Burmese tend to see minorities as people who should just assimilate. Get out of the way. But in Myanmar more than a third of all people are minorities groups such as the Sean Kitchen Corin kn mon, wiry, kind Chen Rohingya. It is a very diverse place yet the army has been trying to colonize their indigenous lands for decades. Often brutally even blasting villages with fighter jets. I asked Elena, who is now a political writer and activist how her people the kitchen tend to feel about the army. Disgust, fear they feel disgust set off the military for all the human rights abuses that they have committed against the community members. Two weeks ago, when the general sees total power in a coup rolling tanks through major cities, including the Heartland where most Burmese people live, Stella gnaw and other minorities were like Yeah, looks familiar. I even have someone asking me how do you feel to lose their freedom? All of us sudden, like I never felt like we had the freedom to begin where, right? Myanmar is now in the throes of a huge uprising at people's uprising, with doctors and students and factory work per person. Strike everyday people standing up the tanks and riot cops and rarely has the whole country. All the racial groups been united United in anger at the military. For Stella. Naw, it feels pivotal, like okay, now, maybe we're all on the same page. This is an opportunity, maybe to help them understand a bit, but also, we can really hope and expect too much because they are so focused on releasing freeing often Sergi Aung San Suu cheat the most popular political leader in the country ever. Especially among the Burmese majority. She's backed by the US and for the past five years on sense, UCI has shared power with the Army until the coup That was the status quo. What many minorities are now telling their Burmese brothers and sisters is let's fight for a real democracy because that status quo For many, it was miserable. It's a village on fire the village once home to Rohingya Muslims following an army purge about three years ago. The army has violently driven more than one million Rohingya out of the country. Years. Nay Sandlin, a Rohingya activist, You know military is the one who committed the genocide against the Rohingya. So we have no reason to support this military coup. But he does say that for his people. The coup doesn't change much. Many already live under an apartheid like system. For example, most Rohingya can't vote. And, yes, he says, some Rohingya refugees did enjoy seeing on Sans Souci get ousted after all on San Souci did go to The Hague in 2019 to defend the army against charges of genocide. Niece. Unwin says that celebrating was just a knee jerk reaction. We informed them. This is not the right way to enjoy detention off society. We have to support the public movement, even if we don't want to support heart or the whole party. They take the long view. He says that the army will never change its ways. But maybe in the future elected officials might begin to stick up for the Romanian. So now in refugee camps, you can hear this growing in survivors of genocide, beating pots and pans in solidarity with Burmese protesters. Nation. Lin is even seeing Burmese people who never stood up for the Rohingya saying Sorry we should have done something they realized their cruelty off this military. And they have the sympathy for us. But like Stella, non, he knows racism won't just go away overnight. This racism is deeply rooted in the country, so it will take a lot of time to change. Only they don't have time. This mass resistance is happening now. And Stellan Aw says it needs to become a more inclusive fight, not just for democracy, but to get the army off. Minorities backs once and for all. That's what brings kitchen people out on the streets in her hometown machina. You see fewer protest signs about Aung San Souci, and more that say, Abolish the Constitution basically overhaul the entire system. But this is how security forces responded to that. Over the weekend, Paul getting a boat, a barrage of rubber bullet, Maybe some real bullets seemingly fired in the air. No confirmed casualties That's from a Facebook live stream. But the army keeps blocking the Internet nationwide, in part to keep the world from seeing these crackdowns. What's clear is that resistance is becoming very dangerous for everyone. That's why Stella Naw says the only solution is to stick together, so we need to work together for this country to work and not become a failed nation, which is already on the way Myanmar's minority groups know quite well, she says that this army will not back down easily. For the world. I'm Patrick Win. Francis Cyber Security Agency says several French entities have been breached in a hacking campaign. They say the G R U
Remembering Boston's Pioneering State Representative, Doris Bunte
"Boston has lost another pioneering legend. Doris bundy died yesterday of cancer at her home. She was eighty-seven bundy was the first black woman elected to the state house of representatives and the first black woman to run the boston housing authority. She was also a mentor. And a friend to many including marie saint floor herself. A former massachusetts state representative now a principal at saint floor communications. Murray thanks for joining us. Welcome to radio boston. Good to be with you to you. Marie you lost a friend and mentor. I'm sorry for your loss. How are you. i'm i'm i'm fine. I think that all of us who are women who were legislators lost the an amazing mentor in an amazing leader today and You know we know comes but when it comes you really feel it and you have regrets that you've stayed as connected as you'd like to have stayed connected in so yeah it's it's a sad day but i'm happy to be able to celebrate her life and i thank her family for sharing her with us all these years. When did you first meet her. And can you tell us a little bit about door. Spongy so i have to tell you. I was eleven years old when i first saw a bar. Doris bundy on television. Now i'll explain. And i think she had just eventually just become state right back in the old days. You only had one. Tv in the house and so you are watching whatever your parents were watching at that time and you here was this woman who was going in to become a state representative in this in in massachusetts as she grew up right in audit. You know she. She had been living in orchard park. I went to saint patrick's so was right down the street. Rama where i went to school every day. There was a sub shop at dudley. That used to walk so you knew you knew the area. So he was this woman who was essentially you know in in places that you identified walked. Who is now going to be in the in the halls of power mistake and she was this tall she was poised in. That was my first introduction. On then i became a state rep and i became a state rep and what i love about her. I did not respond the as an adult. And she reached out on my. I remember when i was running. Decided to run for office. There were a number of people. I spoke with and she offered her wisdom. I remembered when life got rough in the legislature. And i needed questions in that was seeking direction. She's a person that you pick up the phone and you could talk to. And she would share her wisdom. That that's how i remember her. And then she modeled a lot of the things that i think some of us tried to do. I'm once we were in office. What kind of modeling murray. So for me. Dr is modeled. What it meant onto work across the divides weather. It's across racial lines She she she modeled. That i mean you saw that in her work in the legislature. You saw that in her work in the boston housing authority. She was willing to listen. I mean the leadership of the boston housing authority. While she was there was predominantly white. She was she had a clear vision about what she wanted to elevate the rights of people of color in that space but she again She would probably she would call them on formidable adversaries but she was up to the challenge and she was willing to sit listen and work through it one of the things. I never observed due to demonize. That's not was not her style. She was firm to knew what she wanted to go and she left the table always with the door open that i learned from her. I really did. I get this sense marie that she was really tough. Steely she came to boston. According to the globe in nineteen fifty-three three with ninety eight cents to her name at one point. She really locked horns with boston. Mayor kevin white when she was at the boston housing authority. He was a formidable opponent. And in the end through the courts. She won her dispute with him about her leadership at the boston housing authority. She helped integrate Boston public housing. Did you see her as a as a tough woman. And did she model that for other black women leaders coming up behind her as well to me she was. She was smart and she was donations. And what. I appreciate about her that she stood in her power so yeah kevin white could have had his point of view. She had hers two and she believes she was right and she acted on it. Issue was not boastful. She just acted in did what she believed So yeah i think she was a formidable opponent but she but she worked to build consensus so she was acting with the support of those on She was representing so. Unfortunately i you know. I you know a mayor while at the time did not respect that she was tough event. She'd smile. I mean. I remember for me. Remember a smile you know and particularly when she wanted to probe you on something further because she knew there was more there and you could see it so she. She's she's not she she. You might misjudge because you look at or height and you then you see that. She's a woman and it would be to your detriment if you misjudge the staleness of her character on our intellect in her tenacity

South slammed by winter storm, millions left without power in Texas
"O'Dowd. This is here and now much of the country is in the path of a major winter storm today that is icing over roads, closing airports and causing rolling power outages for millions of Americans. Oklahoma City plunged to a record low six degrees below zero this morning. The last time I got even close to that cold was more than a century ago, Alana Roach to a reporter at the Texas Tribune woke up to an unfamiliar scene here. She is with her four year old daughter, Remmy and 17 month old son, Patrick. We are in Austin, Texas, on Welcome this morning to see what outside Ram Snow. Yeah. What do you want to do in it today? No angels and I'm Valley. No man's Yeah. How beautiful is our backyard? And that scared? It may look good. It may look beautiful, but it's also dangerous. Joining us now is Mark Elliott, a meteorologist and storms specialist at the Weather Channel based in Atlanta. Mark busy day Thanks for making time for us. Absolutely. You're not kidding. And then first let's focus in on Texas because we do not hear about snow and cold like that very often. How unprecedented have the conditions been in Texas? I mean, by all measures. This is just an incredible weather pattern that led to some incredible weather. That's really not done yet. I mean, as an example, you're just hearing from that family in the Austin area. They're gonna have single digit low temperatures when they wake up tomorrow morning, which is on Lee happened eight times in the long Recorded history of the Austin area. I mean, this is an impressive cold air outbreak by all measures and to see the snow across Texas. Very impressive as well. San Antonio officially had six inches of snow from this storm. Wow. Well, this has been going on for a few days because there was recently that terrible pile up around Fort Worth where nine people died on and now looks like every county in Texas is under a state of emergency. And we're seeing millions of people there who don't have power because of the burden on the power grid. It's just so great. So how dangerous is a storm like this? Yeah, I think it's a little bit under appreciated. How? How stress the body can get over When underneath these extreme cold conditions, You have to take all kinds of precautions. I mean, everyone was saying, you know, don't go traveling unless you absolutely have to, and I think most people are listening to that. But, you know, have blankets in the trunk of your car. In case you do get stuck somewhere Know where those extra blankets are in your house. In case you're you know, you lose power for an extended period of time. It is not a comfortable thing to go through. We'll put it that way, Right. And when windshields are that low in a place like Texas, where it doesn't happen very often, it might be worth it. For people to know. Like, what does it feel like? And how dangerous how long can you be exposed to that kind of weather? You know, and single digit temperatures like we are forecasting into central, even portions of southern Texas along with wind chills. That will be even colder than that when you could get frostbite outside in a matter of minutes, So, yes, it's fun, right? Do you have the kid? There's a fun side to this novelty of snow in Texas. But you do need to protect your skin. You need to make sure that you're Getting breaks and getting warmed up because you can really get hurt if you're out there too long. Yeah, And it is not just Texas. As we said neighboring Oklahoma. They've gone days now without getting above 20 F and even Seattle has gotten about a foot of snow. So how widespread is this system across the country? Yeah, A couple of different storms are rotating through what's a a bigger trough of low pressure across, say, the eastern two thirds of the country but then that Trump also extends into the Pacific Northwest. So that's the storm pattern. Storm's coming into the Pacific Northwest, diving very far south into you know, central or even southern Texas and then turning the corner going through the mid south and eventually into the Northeast corridor. So Everybody along that path is seeing ice or snow. Anyone north of that path is in the extreme cold air. And, yes, there is another storm waiting in the wings. So many of the same areas that we've been talking about are going to get snow again for the middle and end of the week, including North Texas. The Dallas area could see significant snow again. Little Rock could see significant snow Memphis could see significant snow. I mean, these are areas that don't get snow every season. So to be talking about it twice in one week is just one more example of how incredible this weather pattern really is. I mean, is it normal? I guess what you've been describing No, it's not normal, actually. So what's causing it all to happen? Yes, So there's there's a loaded question, right? Because weather will always happen and, you know, long term averages are made up of weather extremes on so it's winter. You're going to see winter weather, but you don't see this kind of winter winter weather every year, and a lot of people are like, Oh, it's so cold. You said climate change and global warming. There is a you know, ironic component to that that as the polls warm at different levels, it messes with the polar vortex. I'm sure people have remember hearing about that from a couple years ago as that slows down that strong corridor of wind around the Arctic that keeps that cold air locked up. It gets all kinds of wiggly and wobbly And that happens all the time. That polar vortex is always there. But this is an impressive wobble if you will. So all that Arctic air spilled into the lower latitudes where the U. S is and that cold air is, you know, we're really feeling the impact right now. Marc Elliot, the weather Channel. Thank you so much for your time.
Travel Conditions To Be Aware Of In North Texas
"That he and their operation are this morning and Patrick. Let's dive right into it. Give us an overview of road conditions here in North Texas and what we can expect. Absolutely. Our crews have been busy working around the clock trying to keep the roadways passable. We're using our snowplows motor graters. You can see the smell that's out there. We're also trying to, uh spot street certain areas with icy patches using that sand and salt against watch we could on Lee do so much. We want to reiterate this morning that we want people to stay home if they don't have to be out there today. Patrick is that sand and salt. Is that still the go to substance? Are there other ways to fight ice and snow on overpasses and bridges now? Right now. That Brian that anti Aye, sir, that which prevents the ice trauma bonding on the road surface. That's what we're focused on right now, when it comes to our bridges and our overpasses. If you include last week's ice that caused the big wreck and all of this week, his text not ready for a stretch like that. Let me tell you. We are seeing some unprecedented events. And we have some 453 crew members working right around the clock and I want to tell people if you see our trucks out there do not attempt to pass them slow down and give them room. We're doing the best we can to simply keep the roadways passable. Patrick, Do you see? Patrick Clark is with us right now, with the text. Now, do you see assistance coming from other states in your line of work like we do When we say have power outages due to storms like we're experiencing right now. An encore will call in assistance from other states. Do you see that, too, as well in your line of work. Absolutely. And that could very well be a possibility, because, as I keep saying, we have never seen in Ah, these events or at least not not. Not in a long time. So we made very well rely on assistant. Absolutely. Just kind of an off shoot of what's going on. Patrick, if you don't mind express lanes compared to regular lanes on our interstates. Ah, lot of the express lanes. They don't have Ah pull over area to avoid accidents and stuff. How does Tex dot What do you guys talking about? Since that big accident from last week? Bright with those express lanes that is lie across the Dallas district. We have actually closed those express lanes because that gives us the time for recruits to focus on the main link, but we have made the move. Those tollway's that some people call it. We have closed our experts lanes so we can focus on the main lanes right now. All right, Patrick, I know how busy you are. We could hear your phone going off road quickly. The bottom line is If you don't have to be out in it, don't do it right. Absolutely. If you have to be out there, remember, slow down, even though you're treating the roadways. That's not a task to just, you know, rush by still slow down, drive to

Mini-Episode "Answer me this" Guest predictions: Bears QB - burst 2
"First time podcast. Guest longtime listener mark silverman. Espn one thousand co host of waddle and silvy two to six every day on espn. One thousand. I am going to go and i had a list the other day on the show of seventeen quarterbacks who could be hat or who could be on the move and out of all of those if i have to pick one. I'm going to go jimmy garoppolo. I believe san francisco's in a position. Right now where they have a really good thing going and they want to replace jimi g. since he's been injury prone i think you can get jimmy g. for cheaper than he's been whether he's caught you could sign up for cheaper free agent deal. He may want to go back to new england. Maybe bella jack doesn't want him but ryan pace eastern illinois guy also Fellow good-looking guy. Just like with trubisky could veer that way as well. So i'm going jimmy g. And as a close second maybe gruden gets rid of derek carr and the bears would trade for garrett car but those are my two if you force me to pick one. I'm going with jimmy garoppolo.

One first hour heard a lot from Rams fans a little later in the in the hour. We're gonna hear more lines a loaded with Rams fans unveiling the pain today Pearl off. I mean, the most pain we heard was Ross Tucker complaining about all media room lay out for lunch. That was that was tough radio. That was really heartening. I'm not sure who is tougher to be around when they haven't had a full meal you or Ross Tucker because if you're not well fed you could be a little surly yourself. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Atlanta. I don't know if you guys noticed, but I it was there were some desperate food situation. When we are on the road. We get in about two hours before the show. And if the food is in there within an hour the first day Monday, you guys remember what happened with catering? I will never forget this. Yeah, there's come till nine some of the stuff that we had to fight through Seton that not having omelettes onset early. And that's what we expect. It was a disastrous start to the week. There's no doubt about that. I mean, I, oh, I couldn't think of it's it's just as disastrous as Tom Brady. Throwing an interception on the first play the Super Bowl. Or his first throw of the Super Bowl. I mean, it was that catastrophic. I gotta tell you though, I stayed extra day in Atlanta. I came home Sunday show. Many people came up to me and talked about various guests on our show last week. It was incredible. What what was did any guest question? Stand up more than others of the Dan Patrick show last week us. Well, yeah, there's that. But it wasn't just just Kyla berry. I know you're talking about it was a lot of Cam Jordan saquon Barkley. There's so many guys got a lot of reaction to shec- people. Just love the interviews. We had last week. And then there was Kyla Murray. We are going to talk about the column our interview last week and bring back some audio. From that interview. Let's talk about last night. Where were you guys set up for the game? What's your strategy? I'll go last. But what's fritzy I'll start with you? What was your strategy your back home? Did you go party? Did you bunk bunker down with some many hotdogs what you do? I would've loved the there with my wife, and my daughter up the road to a friend's house to watch the first half who are the Super Bowl they had a Super Bowl pointed. But thankfully, I had a nice chair in front of a big TV trying to avoid a whole lot of chatting. I said hi to everybody when I first got there. So then I can kind of be antisocial just focus on the game. While it was going on. You have a choice to not go to the party. I did. But I had blown it off a few other times. And in speaking with my wife, she said let why don't we go for the first half may or may not stay for the, you know, the halftime show. And then she promised me we'd get backed by the second half. So I could sit at my laptop and watch the game in the privacy, everyone homework on guests and all that kind of thing. So I worked on nicely. Got some food said hi to some friends and by by the start of the third quarter. I was home. And it was it was quite lovely. I went into. An isolation chamber in the bedroom and headroom. Yeah. So the bedroom. That's probably I'm not a huge TV you're dealing with. No, I had a small TV, but the distractions downstairs with the kids I did not want to risk it. Not the issue was I had made a huge Chile two kinds of meat. No big deal. And I had to eat that in the bedroom, which my wife was upset. I'm like at Super Bowl. We all have to do things adjustable with adjust. Yeah. I did the same actually not in the in the bedroom..

"The watching last night with their zone as bad as Zona is if I'm Kansas City, I call about Patrick Peterson because now all of a sudden if I get Patrick Peterson, if I get, you know, Eric berry back. Okay. Now at least the back end of my defense is pretty solid. Pretty respectable. Exactly. Now, all of a sudden I got a little bit more well rounded team. Yeah, I would be what if I can get Patrick Peterson and I am the chiefs man, I'd I'd certainly make make a run on I, I would certainly investigate that as well because you're, you're right. That concern is the defense, and especially the back end, they have some admirable front, seven guys, but four, Justin Houston. Chris Jones is a beasts in the middle. You know, the middle linebacker play. But yeah, I worry about them being able to match up against teams like we saw in the patriots big moments that they have enough guys that can go one on one and make a stop and their corner play is below average. And I mean, Arizona's gotta be thinking like, come on. It's they're the worst team in football. Let's rebuild its. You're getting towards the end of Patrick Peterson's prime. He's probably even on the downslope he is on the downslope just two degrees still awesome, but I would I would try to get something to build your team just twenty eight, right. I mean, that's action. No, it's not ancient, but like getting for four year. Exactly. Right. And your Kansas City and you got Mahomes in his prime with that rookie contract and you're in the Super Bowl window right now? They're in. It don't don't don't wait for three years from now when you're about to windows about the clothes and then go, let's make a move and then you go, oh, man, we only got one year here left in the window. You know, make it now do it. Another thing I thought of with Jared Goff and we love to have that rush to your great or your bad. Yes. And Jared Goff we did a disservice, you know, Jeff Fisher doesn't do offense. Well, no, he does not Sean McVay. Big McVay does offense extremely well, right? You get the right and you know this as a former quarterback the the right system, if Mahomes is playing in buffalo, we're not marveling at Patrick Mahomes. No, it's exactly right. I mean the the two Josh's who are. Rookie quarterback this year. Don't expect anything special from that. There's no way they got no chance to succeed. I don't care who you are playing behind those offense aligns, you know, lack of really top end talent at the wide receiver position. You know, just there's too much to overcome. It's they're young. They're gonna make mistakes. I see big potential for both of them certainly, but don't look at their stat line and try to judge them off that because that's not fair talking to Christians joining us on loan from Bleacher report. Also pro football talk live with Mike Florio. Bill Belichick was asked about Khalil Mack, and could you, you know, 'cause clue max similar to learn show in paraphrasing, thea and belching. I wouldn't compare anybody to our stay lower Steeler. So your dad of obviously played with LT, how much did you know about LT growing up? How old were you at the time? I mean, I was one of those kids that when I was like four years old, anybody would tell you. I knew every name in every number on every guy on the team. I was kind of the football. Always kid like. So when I was four or five, six years old, I was very aware that Lawrence Taylor was the best player on the giants and the best player in the NFL baby. He didn't babysit you He did did not. not your dad's. There's some great stories you babysitting..

"Probably won't get in football shape till next year. This is Dan Patrick. Well, we did it well, yeah, we all did it. I did it more than everybody else, but we all did it. Yeah, breaking news. Let's not make this about us. It's about you, the listener and the viewer. We won the Marconi award the highest award you could win in this business. So second time we've been able to win it and humbled by it, and congratulations to all involve, particularly those behind the scenes who do this every single day and do it unselfishly. And of course, the danettes is well. So wonderful night last night, watching football, all of a sudden I get taxed and says you one. And then I realized that I didn't show up again for this award. And this started a couple years ago. Now this is the national association of broadcasters and the Marconi award is the highest award you can win. And I didn't think I was going to win, but you know, it's great to be nominated whenever I show up. I don't win, no matter what it is. I don't win. And at the time we were tied on our budget. And they didn't want me to take a couple of days off, so I didn't go and then we won. So what was that six years ago? Yeah, thought there and then got nominated to other times didn't win and then got nominated this year again. And I said to paulie, do we have a backup plan? If I, if I win, I just don't want him to think. I don't care because I probably care more than I need to and I should. And I said, you know, we need somebody to accept the award. And I mentioned that maybe one of my students in Orlando where where where this was held, the awards ceremony, the damn Patrick school sportscasting may be one of those guys could throw on us, you know, tie and Glover there and accept it. So paulie goes, I got an idea. Yeah, polling. So at the NBA awards down in Orlando, they have like performers, radio performers, guys who have women have very hits Nick fraud as a friend of the show, and he won American idol about five years ago. He was down there performing. So we reached out the Friday Onny and said, hey, if we win, would you run up stage and accept the award? Now we were trying. To clear this with the people at the NABC Marconi awards. Never got a hold of him. So I gave we gave Nick the green light to run up on stage hoping he wouldn't get tackled by security and he went up there for us and he, we don't have the results of the speech, but the American idol winner picked up throw force. And today's is friends with Nick Friday. High school? Yeah. And he reached out to him and said, look, if you go up there, here's a couple of things to say. I don't know what he said, but you know, we're waiting to maybe hear from Nick. Yes. The I team has learned that we have not been able to reach Friday on because he was out celebrating with our award all night. That's sorta premier radio parties. Those more Marconi parties, famous crazy. Yeah, crazy Vanity. Fair party. Yeah, I get it. It's the same. Like just like the and you know the Oscars, just a radio version of that. All right. Well, it was great night and certainly reflective of all the great work here that we've done over the years and certainly the other guys on, you know, the danettes as well. L. so my thanks and basically Brian secret. Oh, no. Now I'm just that your speech that would have been my speed you think today on LA radio, he's lamenting is another Marconi loss? No, because he's such a nice guy. You can't help, but like Ryan Seacrest even if you don't want to like him when you're around him and I was around him when I was at the Olympics, you can't help it like, and I don't think he's lamenting last. I looked Seacrest doing well. It's still very, very well very well. Yes taught Now Sean Hannity. Delilah demanded a recount that's not very good spor. No, it's not. It's not. I think Hannity was involved in some other things last night..
