"Well, Tyler here we are in our thirties, isn't or both homeowners, and I would like to just really say how much it means to me that when you walked in my house, you appreciated, the Fritsch will. Of course it was guys. I haven't, I haven't told them about the fridge animal. I'm just jealous of your eyes machine because my fridge the ice. Maker is broken. And so now I have to buy ice in a bag and I put it in the freezer, and it's like I'm embarrassing people are trying to like make ice with my and I'm like oh, that's broken right now. But it's been broken for two years. So I'm like I can't say it's been it's broken right now. It's like it's been come ownership is like you have to take responsibility for the shit that goes wrong in, like actually do something, and I am not doing any of those can ease into it. I will tell you a fun fact about fridges and then a promise we're going to stop talking about for guys. But Hello now we're not thirties a fridge the ice machine on the fridge is the number one thing to break. And the reason why is because if you're ice machine is connected to your freezer, unit every time you're opening and shutting the freezer door a little bit of heat. Enters your fridge. So a little bit of moisture enters, which is a little bit of water so Refrees in places the break your ice machine. So if you wanna get a fridge, which has an ice machine that doesn't break, you have to get it separate from your freezer. Some accents does. I mean, I opened my freezer lot because you know have a handler top of ice cream problem in. So I what I do is. I don't commit to one pint of ice cream I get one out. I sit down have some well, but I keep the door open until it buzzes in. That's my personal. Primer is machine shirt. It's my personal time for me to push the button to stop the beeping switch out to a new flavor. So tell at might be so that's probably. So you're free. You wanna fridge that allows you to have portion control. Well, this does kinda does when you worth breaking the ice maker. It does it when you were what has your fridge is a great conversationalist, because it knows how to break the ice third. Thank you. That was at a growing up was your house said, no shoes house. It was on house yet. Okay. That's how I know you grew up in chaos. I know a lot of the that's the real indicate I didn't I didn't start taking my shoes off until I went and lived in Japan. What Happens to Donated Blood?

"Jerry Lewis v. Wave seditious incur Kobe also Amy wine-house, Johnny cash and more disgrace them rock and roll true crime podcast stories about musicians getting away with murder behaving. Very badly is available now posted by me. Jake Brennan, you can listen to disgrace. Then the I heart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to brain stuff from how stuff works. Hey, brain stuff, Lauren Vogel bomb. Here. This episode talks about blood donation. So if that's the kind of thing that makes you go on and skip it, okay? Every two seconds in the United States someone somewhere needs a blood transfusion. And let's face it. Money of us. Don't consider giving blood until there's a major disaster where donations are needed. But just one donation has the potential to save up to three lives. On average. When you donate blood, you provide about one pint that's about half liter of whole blood, which is called a unit of blood and for reference that's about sixteen ounces or the size of a large coffee. But in the US alone. There's a need for almost thirty six thousand units of blood every day. So it's excellent for those who can donate to do. So, but have you ever wondered what actually happens after your blood is drawn for donation where does it go, and how is the process tracked for safety and security? We'll break it down step one is collection. When you donate blood. It's collected a special bag, and luckily, if you test tubes that were developed with an antiquated prevent the blood from clotting each bag and test tube is assigned the same unique ID number to ensure that the collected blood can be properly tracked in eventually labeled then the blood is placed on ice before it sent to the lab for testing. Next the bags and test. Tubes of blood are packaged in boxes specially made to keep blood at the right temperature until it can reach laboratories for step to processing the test tube. Samples are sent off to the lab for testing to be sure the blood is safe and to determine the blood type in the US, the FDA regulates blood testing collection and blood components through center for biologics evaluation and research while that blood is being tested, a blood processing center, verifies receipt of the whole blood sort of like tracking package from post office through delivery. The bloods, ideas checked in at every step of the way. Next, the units of whole blood or separated into specific components. The separation process, which is called component therapy is accomplished by spinning the blood and a centrifuge the heavy red cells fall to the bottom and the blood is divided into trance fusible components red cells platelets and plasma the plasma might even be processed further. For instance, plasma can be separated into crow precipitate called crow for short, which helps control the risk of bleeding by helping blood clot. The red blood cells plasma and platelets are then heat sealed in bags to ensure they remain sterile and the components are stored while they wait for their test results plasma in cryan contain proteins that are pretty stable. So they can be frozen for up to a year negative twenty seven degrees Fahrenheit, that's negative thirty three celsius. Red cells are more delicate and have to be refrigerated, but can be kept for up to forty two days as long as they're held at forty two degrees Fahrenheit that six degrees celsius platelets must be used within five days and are stored at room temperature in agitators that rock them back and forth until they're transfused into a patient. Through all of this. The blood processing center is still tracking the donation including manufacturing data. What centrifuge was used to separate the blood? And what time the work was performed once they get an okay on the blood tests from the lab, the components are ready to be deployed they print labels with information, including the blood type and expiration dates, which they then affixed to the bags if the blood is deemed unsafe during the testing, it's tagged with discard labeled complete the tracking cycle when a hospital or treatment center places in order for blood or plasma components are shipped off in temperature safe boxes when they arrived, the medical staff, double checks them for safety. And finally, they're ready to be transfused into the patient who needs them the entire donation to shipping process can take up to three days, which doesn't seem like a long time. In till there's a major disaster or blood shortage. The American Red Cross says blood supply usually keep up with demand because only about three percent of people eligible to donate actually do. That's why it's such a boon to donate if you can especially if you're a universal donor with type O-negative blood. This can be transfused into any patient with any blood type the American Red Cross estimates about forty five percent of people in the US have typo blood. But the overwhelming majority of those people are positive, which is lucky for them because it means that donated components are more likely to match their common type. But it also means that just seven percent of people are type O-negative that universal donor. "Material podcast episode two hundred minus five I think we should start doing a countdown because it's exciting. We are episode two hundred minus five and I am Andy Annette go. Hi, I'm thorns ion. I like your idea Andy counting down to the very big episode, which we are supposed to be planning. But you know, I think as long as we just talk about what we want to manifest for that episode. I think it will just come into fruition because that's how things work right manifest them. I decided that I'm definitely going to manifest another cake. I am definitely gonna. That's definitely going to buy cake. Okay. All right. I will. Yes. I will put that on my calendar to eat cake this week. I'll prepare myself. I will eat nothing but veggies leading up to it. So that I can just go to town on that cake because let me tell you there's nothing better than sitting in front of the TV and just taking a fork and digging into the cake and just it's just the best feeling in the it's one of my favorite feelings in the world, a good yellowcake with a really really rich. Like, I'm talking about like a bakery style birthday cake. And none of that look at sort of like a shortcake with a creep. No. Well, it's sort of a cranberry take on. No, give me like a good yellowcake chocolate fun. Good chocolate as my. With a high fat high cream content like frosting with piping all around. And I think the last time I used this podcast by myself a cake. That's when I realized that the only done it like three or four times and like the first couple of times like it's hard to like real again. I have no no one in the house to share the cake with at some point. It's like well, look that edges are starting to get a little crusty. So if I don't eat like this whole third of a cake over the next four hours is just gonna go bed. But that's then I real, but the next cake, I realized that this kind of cake freezes really really well. And let me tell you before I had no idea that I had the ability to simply put slices of beautiful birthday cake in the freezer and then over the next month month and a half anytime. I wanted a rich wonderful dessert that makes me happy again, given that I don't buy cookies. I don't buy snacky junk food for the. House. But there is knowing that six times over the next month and a half. If I want a slice of cake. I can just take this this vacuum sealed pouch that I feel this thing in so next vacuum sealing. I was going to ask how you keep it fresh in there because I just do the aluminum foil thing, and I put a whole foods cake in there. And I mean, let me tell you all whole foods cake is the just feel like ten percent less bad about it. It's like say a Costco cake, which is just like pure one hundred percent sugar. And it's it's all icicle in there. Now, this is this is this is a this is a point that I made to myself years ago when I stab wished my like sugary junk food horrible food in the house protocol might my decision was that we're not going to buy like the the the hood ice cream half gallon like once a week because the stop. It's it's no good be having that much ice cream, of course of the week. And if really I just want to have this really indulgent sort of experience with scream what if I buy one pint of Ben and Jerry's flavor, I really really like. And that's that. I also actually take the take my biggest lie kitchen knife while it's frozen. And I sliced it in half send that I've been vacuum seal each half. So basically, so the the the rest of can go further. Yeah. Oh, no, no. That's that's that's another show. But see. But with the cake the secret is you put in the freezer as is. Okay. And that gets it like, nice and hall, nice and hard, and then we take it out and you slice it. And then you put in the vacuum sealer like the frosty woke it all Schmidt up and it'll be beautiful..

"The. Book fried passionate and patterns re of college football lives. Here is the Paul finebaum show our one pint cast. Hey, everybody. Welcome into the five Bom show. No, I'm not Paul von ball. I have a lot more hair. And he does I'm Ryan McGee sitting in for Paul today. And I don't know if you all heard, but a there's basketball tournament started today, and I understand it's a really big deal. It's that it's the college something it's like March March mayhem or March wacky nece some like that. Anyway, we're gonna talk about that. Because there are teams from the southeastern conference in action, including this or not here. No coach, no problem. Right. LSU has defeated the BULLDOGS of Yale. They will move on to the second round. Of course, if you've listened to this show or any show, then you know, there's not a head coach there. There's your final score LSU won by five Yale could not have shot the ball worse in the first half. And LSU enjoyed a pretty sizable lead Yale came back for one hundred boisterous crowd down in Jacksonville. And for what also under? Stand the stars of LSU, and they're not full-time head coach at the podium in Jacksonville as we speak into the shooter's making it tough for those guys get to the pain, the second half came out and gave up some easy baskets. But I I give the credit. They're good team. They play a lot of confidence a lot of poise and they made some big shots. They needed to. But we were able to make some free throws down the stretch to enable us to win the game. We got some stops that we needed down the stretch. But we're really really happy to have to win thoughts here. Just reminder, no video on cellphones photos or cool. Let's get some questions for the players. I and we'll get those guys out of here. We'll spend a little more time with the head coach. We'll start here on the right side. And you next her. Jerry Carino from the report press as what was like for you your tournament. Dave, you had it live up to maybe what you dreams your expectations were coming in those pretty tough Haro team that you know, who didn't let up in. They were very very competitive in. You know, that's something you're gonna see throughout the whole March, man. Second row in the left. And then you next, sir. This is for any of you guys after having such a close game against Florida, go the other way, how nice was it for you guys bounce back in crunch time and stave off that push. Jeez. How's Florida game dingo excuse me, the way we wanted to go? But as a team we were able to grow from it and pretty much learn we had to make free throws coach and everything's just fall into place. I. In the oil. Yes, sir. Mazuz that came a little closer than you had hoped. What can you learn from that game that you can take to move on on Saturday and hopefully going forward, I mean, just control you can toll on the temple on both sides of the floor on as as far as the home the whole team, you know, just plain our best going out and playing hard as we can. Go LSU with a five point win over Yale. Like, I told you head into the the brief comments there from the podium that looked like it was going to be a blow out in the first half. LSU certainly showed no signs of any hangover or any distraction because of what all has been going on down there in the headlines Yale played as bad as they can play in the first half, obviously played much better in the second half. But LSU hangs on for that win. They will play the winner of the Belmont, Maryland. Game course Belmont just played their way into that game..

He starts drunkenly bragging, he has a big mouth charge genuinely bragging, his coworkers that how he had been paid two hundred pounds by one of their co workers to impersonate him and give bloods in his place. Oh, no good old Kelly. You can't keep his fucking mouth Shelly Kelly bragging Bragg Bragg. God bless you. And then at the same time. Yeah. You're the one pint and he won't shut his fucking mouth. "Give it away give the milk away for free you silly cow. Hold onto it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you got to go to the parquet factory. And I'm looking to see if there's any kind of contact contact form raise contact us. The parquet factory is going to have a giant industrial strength churn in there somewhere you have to stunt. You gotta Kong flip all the fuck the way over that fucking dang. You gotta get people. Be scared. He's gonna fall in and become butter. But you don't because you're abilities and got to be slippery in there. They'll say oh shit. Go in the park factory with your own butter in your pocket. Spread it on the fourth floor slip break, your skull. Then park as going to have to do a settlement for you. And give you million dollars at the end of the day. You can say that's a sort of sponsorship, you go or do spread out some of that competitive brand X butter and then spread out some Parque butter. See how easy it is to do it on the brand expert because it's slippery at all. And then try to do park on and right? This butter is the slavery assed. Yeah. For sure. That's good. We're done my friend, and I are on vacation in Ireland for the holidays an old man at a bar if they've written here pub, I guess because they're an Ireland like, yeah, we get it. That was an auto, correct? By Irish, giggle Irish clip. You'll be tried to type. Can't you're closer to him. Swat knows the newspaper. I'm trying to get him. But he was just sit around all the bar. Just sit around a beer over Dr table which to Samari Christmas. We were about to leave. What do we do planning on drinking the beers could start, but we don't know for supposed to buy him and his friends around. Now. How do we leave this pub without seeming like ungrateful tourists from gifted a Guinness in Galloway? Amp this to amp this shit up. I have only had around bought for me once at a bar. I've only seen it done once and it was at my ten year high school reunion. So that was that even escalated even more because I got some got even more skin in the game. Here the party who did buy the drinks did go around making sure everybody did get their drink, which is maybe a new way of doing this. That is I don't know you could consider successful. What is the etiquette here for a round of Bruce game? All right. Here's what needs to have like bars to start carrying incrementally larger glasses. So it's like, okay. You sent over like one pint I'm gonna send back one point one pint of beer. Okay. Right. So it's like an investment. So it's like I bought you around. Oh, it paid off. Right. My investment paid off. And now, I'm getting a return on the beer that. But if it doesn't come back you like, oh, well, another bad stock. I didn't. I didn't choose well on that you go you take your mug or pint glass of beer up to the bar. And you say, hi, I'm I have and I'm going to be back later. Can you put a lid on it and put it behind the counter for me? And then I'll be back later to please save this for me in and put a lid on it or something, and I'll doesn't get stinky that doesn't get skunked, and I'll come back later and drink it. Help in getting a beer back to this old, man. Yeah. That's the question. It is I feel like a round is such a selfless act when you buy around if there's like thirty people in the bar. You're not expecting twenty nine other people to then do rounds that would be that would take first of all that would take four and a half days. And no one would survive it. That's a no one says no one says like drinks are on me. And then you do it for me. It's not a fucking massage circle that you're doing on opening night of your community theater production. It's you know, it's a pub. This is a very pay it forward kind of thing where like maybe next Christmas. You're at a bar. Prince pub imprint sees and you buy around for a table, and you say merry Christmas, and somewhere that will man feels the warmth is heart. Oh, no. It's a heart attack. I mean, the other thing here is you're about to leave..

So then they started was funny how they brought. They marketed Dennis Harter show are some side of the scaredy to which is not what it is. It's just ridi ri- I remember coming across the script. It was the first thing. The second in the well. An American project that I did because it was filmed and found Couve. America lutely. Supposed to be many. I think David kind of got a little has been trying to work in Maine for years. You know, he kind of got up. There gives writing nobody go. Because he wasn't work from home. Brickley wry sardonic. Funny as hell. Script. I remember readers. That's where the writers have gone. That's where they wear the hidings as the fifties. It was like just the dialogue was just so. Just gonna kick out of every syllable of it. Yeah. Had you been touched with him and all these years? Trying to kind of availabilities and things. I thought as he was doing his TV thing book to be honest. Like as I say, I was kinda, I didn't read from film. Yeah, I didn't trust TV in the sense that a lot of the time it was just second rate film. That's what it was, and then it starts to change. And then it ultimately changed. I think it has really changed, but I do still think that those. Danger of getting fast and loose with the writing in TV's. It's so difficult to sustain a long TV series and almost up its nature. You know, how do you stay original series after series. So this was a limited thing. This kind of it's based on this statement, king books, which of which star three with this particular character in them. So I said, okay, happy days. I don't have. I don't have to sign up for six or seven years or something because I'm too old. I don't one pint of dates be, oh, that wasn't picked up before the milch thing, which I just thought it was going to be really grace money, the money it was called and I really enjoyed doing that by it when it wasn't picked up disappointed and another way I was kind of saying, okay, you know, dodge bullets. Seriously, like it's too long for me. It's. Turns into six or seven years, which the first two might be great, but who knows? Yeah, ballot or four. And then where are you at better? I mean, you know, the thing is you're, you're saying the potential is here for that. Yeah. But then when everybody feeds that they have it figured out the biggest problem with people's when they they need to have figured out. That's when they start out some questions white. Why? Why do we need here? Could we not just do that for a little bit for deterement? We don't actually need that. I mean, I saw that in theaters, those particular guy starts theater with he amazing things and Dublin with them. You know, the the people type stuff. He brought fantastically allergy when I before I went full time, I was doing full shows in front Tarzan hundred people for ten week extensions because this guy had settled this organization that he wrote plays for people who live in the suburbs. Nobody writes about this overs. They write about s- inner city. Heart Shaw's in there and they, they used to write about the country people, but most people live in the summers, and this guy was a time of. You know, unemployment and stuff as bad timing armed at time in the eighties, and he wrote all these plays at spoke directly to that where hilariously funny, hugely entertaining, very TI. And then he went down on the side of spreading all these complimentary tickets into dole offices into social welfare places. And Pete, we commonly would never go to eater and they saw their own is reflected Innis and it became a fantastic sort of a movement, you know. But I remember at one stage, the arts council tried to get involved and they say, why did you let us help you? And you can do bigger and better projects, and that happened for a year. And then the second year they started questioning the model. Why are you giving away these tickets?.
