"And you study published by the American Heart Association found perhaps somewhat surprisingly, that drinking a few cups of black coffee was associate ID with the decreased risk of heart failure. The study's lead author said that coffee and caffeine are often considered by the general population to be bad for the heart. Because people associate them with palpitations and high blood pressure, But consistent relationship between increasing caffeine consumption and decreasing heart failure turns that assumption on its head. Remember that one cup of coffee or anything for that matter is just eight ounces, and you can negate the health benefits of coffee pretty quickly if you were suddenly adding too much cream. Or too much sugar. So go ahead.

Kyle larson in the five car. Everybody knows he is the guy to beat in the dirt anywhere. He goes in any kind of car and the second guy. Christopher bell in the twenty car also very good in the dirt and the third guy will take a look at is tyler rhetoric in the car so we have zero stats to pump at you today. Because this is nascar's very first cup race in the dirt in the modern era with that being said folks. "Long been fascinated guava leaf tea now. There's another study that shows that raw honey can do the same thing teaspoon tablespoon a teaspoon of raw honey right not the kind that you get from the bear right but with the honeycomb in it like you know like you went to the farmers market and you get the local honey because you want the raw honey that comes ought not processed got on the senate and things like that number one it you with your allergies But number two. It's hard for your body to digest it and you can actually make it through the night. I have some patients who do the guava with the honey and they think that is kind of like the killer the killer supplement for them and so that actually worked out quite well from a from a blood sugar standpoint to be clear. If you're diabetic or your kito or paleo obviously you can't do the hunting park but you can do the guadalete t part now. I will also tell you that as a wolf krono types on a late in the night krono type. My intermittent fasting is actually delayed so minor investing my feeding time starts at two and goes till ten. Okay i'm doing an eight hour feed writing so as a as a Yes right before bed. You can take it about thirty minutes before bed. You only have one cup of it. because you'll have to be if you have too many times so yes right before. The third thing is much more interesting than the first two. The third one has to do with your core body temperature. So what's interesting is when you fall asleep at around ten thirty at night your core body temperature goes off a cliff and goes down down down and your core body temperature drops by almost a full degree centigrade by the time. You're at the base of your core body temperature. That's actually quite cold. And so what's interesting is around between two and three in the morning. There's an uptick in your temperature. And your temperatures slowly starts to rise because your body's supposed to be waking up because of the sun and things like that so this time period is a time where you're arousal threshold is particularly low very easy to wake up during this particular period of time..

Does Exercise Really Affect Metabolism?

"Often people say in the past. It's been a bit of a common belief that if you exercise you'll speed up your metabolism. That one hundred percent depends on what type of exercise and what. Your metabolism is adapted to do in the first place. So fuel preferences has your body got before you exercised what fuel preference have you instigated during exercise which is based on the top of exercise. And then what you do after the exercise as well so There's so many layers but let's let's just digging a little bit where. The exercise helps or hinders white loss for example metabolism. If we're talking about calories in calories out and simply if i ate less i will lose white. And if i exercise than exercises a great way to lose weight and eight less move more theory has been around a really really long gone and it doesn't work for a lot of paypal and in the general population. It's not working at all that general theory or that general recommendation in government guidelines. So let's think about what happens to a seventy kilogram famous approximately in thirty minutes of exercise. Approximately one hundred calories of bent so if they just going for a gentle walk in a chat thirty minutes. Moderate exercise approximately two hundred calories a bun and thirty minutes. Vigorous exercise approximately three to three fifty calories. Abun now if we look at the food intake one apple one hundred calories. One egg seventy five calories grams of chicken breasts. One hundred and seventy calories one cup of milk so if you got a lot i after you walk one hundred and fifty calories so let's say it was two weeks then pretty much all of these as around one hundred one. Hundred and fifty calories is an apple. Two eggs hundred grams of chicken breast or a cup of milk. He's all going to pretty much main. That you've got a walked for an hour thirty minutes to forty five minutes of walking just to have that one little snack so if you walk and then you did snack then you balance that but this is not about calories. I want to say everything that just said. He's completely relevant and wrong. Because this is not about calories in calories out that was an example of why the eight less move more does not work well in terms of trying to burn the fact that you have stored on your

The Sexual Fantasies Episode

"In twenty fifteen sadly before my time But we as you like ten okay but basically we just wanted to take a fresh look. At the topic and address it again kind of looking at some facets that weren't really addressed in our first episode and just kind of continuing the conversation about what i think is just a really central topic right so i. I felt strongly about doing this. Because i feel like fantasies are really central to people lives especially on long-term sex lives. I feel like this comes up so often. They concern about fantasizing all for my religious patience and may not religious patients most couples who have been having sex for more than. Let's say two years or three years ago to hit this one way or the other either because they should be fantasizing. 'cause it makes sex more interesting and it allows their sex life to take all kinds of different directions. Also i feel like people have so much trouble with this so from novel. Just i get this idea like. Oh my god i feel guilty that somehow thinking about somebody besides my spouse and from my religious patients i hear oh my god is a major issues with the fact that i'm thinking about my spouse so i can start talking about the fact. Why don't think it's a problem from a moral and ethical perspective. But say something from the you know helen piece. I don't sure So there's a passage in the talmud in dr that says that the man is not allowed to drink from one cup while placing his eye while looking at another cup and obviously it means not allowed to have sex with his wife. while thinking about another woman You don't like the metaphor here from context context says both of them are his wives. So there you go. It's clear almost august. it's basically explicit. So that seems to say exactly that this type of scenario is a problem. But here's the big but it seems that if you actually look at it more closely and you look at what the commentators say I don't think that it relates to the type of fantasy that you're talking about. There's good evidence that at least for many commentators in means that a person is not supposed to be using their wife as standing for the woman they really wanna be having sex with. And i think you see that already. A little bit in the language of etain enough should not be placing his eye which really means like focusing on desiring. Different woman does not just mean sort of fantasizing but maybe helpful. So i i can quote some sources that make that point but maybe it'd be helpful by kevin for you to address that reality like why is it not cheating on your husband or on your wife to be thinking of someone else so i know i've probably made this point in other episodes but i think the most important thing for people to realize is that when you're thinking about somebody else you're thinking about a fictional person even if you're thinking about a real person it's a fictional person because that may be a real person that you have seen on television or have seen at you know you're at a workplace meeting or something so they're real a certain level but the fans you have about having sex with them does not include the fact that you come home every day to them. They don't do the dishes when they say they're going to do the dishes. They don't pick up their socks that they're dropping on the floor right. You have taken this element of this person. And you've distilled it down to the pieces of the person and the elements of the person that turn you on or that will turn you on and that is why. It's not really a real person that you're having sex with it's a fantasy of even if it is. That's why i laugh a little bit when somebody's like if i have a fantasy about a fictional character. Everybody you're having a fantasy about is a fictional character. Even if it's somebody that you kind of know socially again you have just turned them into this fantasy character for you to have sex with them. That's number one number. Two is also for sure before you are making the decision to have sex with this person who is in the room with you and so if you have a fantasy character in her head. It's because you're using that person you're using that person in order to have sex with this person right so who's getting used right. It's a fantasy character not the person you're actually having sex with at the moment and i think that becomes really really important lesson for people. I had this one patient once not that long ago. Who was just so good because it was so distilled where she. She started crying when we start talking about. I asked her if she thought about other people and she was having sex and she said she does but she feels terribly guilty about it. And i said well. Why do you feel guilty bench. Then i think my husband must also be thinking about other women and that makes me feel terrible. And i was like okay. It makes me feel terrible because you think you should only be thing beg you and you should be the only thing that ever turns him on and so she sort of nodding through her tears. I knew she had this. You know grown up daughter. I said your daughter. She's in a relationship. Now do you want for the rest of her life to only be thinking about one man and she sort of looked at me and she started laughing she was like not really and i said and her boyfriend you want if she gets married. You want her husband's only be thinking about her for the rest of his life. You should only be thinking about her as the only that turns him on. Is this young woman. And she's well. Oh my god. I think you'd be a sociopath. If that was the case and i was like yeah you think so. It was so much easier for her to see this with her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend we had these kind of crazy romanticised views. That as soon as you sort of put them under a microscope do not make any sense at all. So i think we like our little kind at ourselves and say like this is really unrealistic. Your erotic brain likes new things. It doesn't like repetition. Repetition is not erotic right road. Familiar tents erotic. So how do you bring the new win to your relationship and you wanna have a good sexual relation with this person for you. Know thirty years forty years of best and easiest way to do that is to use fantasy so like a big fantasies and i i really feel like people need to like lighten up on themselves a little bit now. I will say my only caveat if there is somebody that you know and you keep fantasizing about the same person again and again and again and you're not feeling good about your relationship that's already a different story and that's a problem but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about most people who are thinking about a movie star or like an idea of somebody you know or a a baseball player. Whatever teacher so what if somebody you know. See someone at work. It's really turned on and come some. Let's say a man comes home and has sex with his wife and doesn't like once keep his eyes closed while he's having sex with his wife so he doesn't he could be thinking of this person and not his wife. He's still choosing to have sex with his white he's married and this other woman is married to like. Sometimes we're not making that choice. Actively those are the circumstances where stuck in our. Let's a funny way to put something like okay. Some saint you. If there's a problem in your relationship this seems like an ongoing problem has to be addressed. But let's let me refrain that like he sees this woman he gets really dot and he uses that in order to have great sex with his wife. That's amazing like what difference does it make. If he's you know if the vision he hasn't his is you know twenty minutes. Twenty seconds before orgasm is sort of blurring between this woman and his wife. It's great now. Those pleasurable feelings have now connected with his wife right if he's constantly fantasizing about this woman and he's having issues with stock which is what you said. This is where stuck with. is that language. Like i feel like that's where the change us abc and stop saying this is what you're stuck with. This is what you're you're using it roddick energy that you pick up from other parts of your life and you're bringing back into your marriage and i think that's much more sort of positive way to look at it. Is sarah looking horrified. I law. i'm. I'm just wondering if we brought in the conversation a little bit because right now it sounds like both of you are talking just about fantasizing about another person or like imagine character or whatever. I'm also wondering your thoughts about just fantasizing in general like maybe fantasizing like during the workday about having a new type of sex with your spouse or you know just kind of like having fantasies about sex like no not while you're having sex so i'm amazed that because why would that be a problem like in other words i feel like the only thing comes up in my mind is problem is the one fantasies are great every fantasy. All the time is great. The only one that people seem to have a lot of problems with our when involves thinking about some of the other than your partner. I don't know though. I mean i feel like there's during the course any kind of sex no but during the day if some of these getting turned on by somebody you know people probably feel guilty through right. I'm well also. I mean this might be coming from my own misinformation. But isn't there an idea of like here. Haram kind of just like negative idea of like fantasizing about sex maybe wall you're learning or like or maybe just in general a we're not supposed to being thoughts are looking for is in our hearts. The laughter here who right so the ramoche divided into two categories. One is to have really plan to do a sin like to plan to commit adultery like a very intentional. So that's put that aside the other one. Is you know men having sexual thoughts which can lead to seminal emission know to masturbation or actually sitting in a worse way. I was once teaching this text out. The problem about here haram in a married man. Whatever ran looking at a woman sexually and the student The guy was teaching it to any sets be. "Okay so there's so much but you gotta remember. This is only happening in four cities in the entire world so the majority of trainers will have fomo. The majority of trainers will not be able to take part in this. So i so it's not like i have to worry too much about unknown see shiny only being available to ticket holders. I can't get the fucking ticket anyway. Because i'm not in new zealand. You know what i mean. It's like i. I don't know i just you. You've got the community being very upset because they think niantic is jumping the gun here and being irresponsible with covid when it comes to that i definitely see it. I definitely see where people can think that. But you have to remember. We are trying to get out there and have normalcy. All these events were created with the the city themselves and of course will you know are are pushed to promote all local safety and and health measures. We want you to play so surveillance that there's gonna be rewards for being socially distant. How the fuck that will come about. I just don't want to see something like this. Replace like a safari zone or something. You know what. I mean like this. This just seems so limited like only four cities like it would be different if they came out with this event and he said okay in twenty cities or fifty cities across the world. You know but four cities. This is a very very small amount of trainers that are going to be able to take part in. This which ultimately means is going to be a very small amount of trainers that. Have a shot shiny unknown. See so yeah. I don't know. We'll have to see i don't i you know if you're from one of those four cities or we'll be playing. Let us know how it goes and let us know how you know people in your you know outside of your immediate area that you may have you know contact with but don't play a can't play in the area what they thought about it. Because you know. I it's it's not going to affect me because there's nowhere around me that is possible to even play so is what it is all right last bit of news for this For this episode. This is a big one. Pokemon home is finally integrated with pokemon. Go this is pretty exciting. So while niantic hasn't put out a blog post yet which is kind of interesting. We do have a bit of information from pokemon dot com as well as some details that were dug up in the code by polka minors. So let's first look at pokemon on dot com this article kind of explains the go transporter and the go. Transporter is what is used to transport pokemon from go to home and it uses energy that will ultimately replenish over time. We've kind of had hints towards this and talked about this before. Now there's two features that we do know about. That are very very exciting. I to celebrate the release of home and go integration the first. Poke him on that. "I mean i'm slightly far behind. But i can make it happen. Yeah i mean it's if you have a good team. I mean i who knows maybe the charm enter will be the spice that you need a you know. What are you using that as your counter browser. Yes are you. Yes oh ancon okay. That's a good point so now you have to good counters. Okay okay interesting interesting. Because i would even consider not leading with charm. Ender am trying to catch your opponent out there on a hard switch lock with they. They switch in two cot near bronze. Or then you bring in the charmaine during just fucking chop them down with. Yeah well that. That's the one thing i called last week and it's definitely been true. That little cup is all about the fast moves. I mean like sometimes there's nothing you could do like if you if you're having dino that gets switch locked into their cottigny three fast moves your fucking toast you're done. It's like fast moves play a huge role in the little cup. I just i've been having a with it. It's going to be interesting to see how the meta develops before. It goes away and like you were saying adam you see those same. Poke him on as because there's been no time to develop the meta so people go to poke they see the top five. Those are the ones i'm using. Yeah exactly if this little cup was a month or two long there would definitely you start to see things. Get a little bit more diverse. A little bit more spicy people taking a little bit more risk. You know as the as it gets developed over time. But i think just because it's such a short window that yeah of course you can see the go-to because people wanna you know. Wanna be a safe as they possibly can be. But i've just been having a fucking blast with it. I'm really enjoying it. Okay another Another little bit of news here. This is an interesting one so Niantic on the blog announced a x. P. rebalancing tests that was going to be coming to the game for select trainers. Of course those trainers are in australia and new zealand. So they are the ones that were guinea pigs for our pokey coin testing and that went on for like months and at a nowhere. Niantic was like all right. The testing is done. It went away and it reverted back to the old system. And all like the the ozzie. Kiwis were like what the fuck where. What do you mean. Just all this testing and we're reverting back to the way it was so the pokey coin tesco's away and with xp being the next mechanic on the testing block This one seems to be a little bit more comprehensive than the poco tests which will probably have a greater impact on those players that are part of the test on their daily the daily gameplay so check this out self. Scientists have put together table to show the updated x. p. values so check out some of the most significant changes that have been documented already from self science. The Cultural and Ecological Implications of the Salep Orchid Trade

"Take those steps in and do something professionally with your career to actually. Contribute to the world of conservation, which brings us to the topic of Salad, and if anyone listening has heard of salad at all is probably as an ingredient, which is interesting. Because often times I hear people saying, Vanilla is the only culinary viable orchid on the planet, which is not true. So let's talk about sal up what is it? What is it used for, and where does it come from? When Salad Salad? Actually, it's not only an arcade ashamed Larkin it's like a big group of four kids. If you go through literature, you can find more than thirty five species. SLEAFORD Silane it's also depending on when a whether you are what exactly two different species or group species in Greece different one in Turkey or other countries. So when we talk about the If we see all the countries together faced in weekend, say that the most common once belonged to Janet like or he's like that filariasis also mccown. And infected, maybe it's off races when. So what's smoke one between solid core kids as their root system they most often have obeyed Bob's or? Huber's along one that look like little fingers. If. You see those on the rises. So this is actually a a salad porchet and being driven is coming through the dried and ground Cuba's that's what you get the. Fowler and the Susan Shelley Different. If you see, for example, in Greece, they like days they're just washed with water and dry. But if you go to Durkin also boy in either walking on me, it depends on very Jim. So that's what's giving you the final product of salad father. In what is sell generally used in? I mean, if someone's looking to see if it's an ingredient, what kind of food are they looking at generally or is it a lot just like the orchids that gives us it If you look at it as any greeted Bailey actually there are a lot of things you can find it most often is the traditional beverage. Back. The. Actually it's not always clear product that sometimes makes the cornstarch. Bob Is the one that you make the beverage hot beverage also techie you can find the acid thickening ingredient for they additional ice cream called on the. One that stick you on. an increase is also used or traditional ice cream, but this call, Kai Mikey by this mixed with mustard powder. The one that comes from the must be healthy. So this is more I don't mind. And less. But issue see that he starts Suzanne Masters you can not a fine sapping the most stains places even as an ingredient or bombs. So. Mrs I leave. I much. Boy. While an okay. So these are all terrestrial orchids for anyone that's not familiar with the Genera, and when you talk about harvesting routes, that immediately brings to mind issues that we have with harvesting plants here in North America for instance, panics and high dressed us. Those are two plants that are highly sought after further routes, but the very act of pulling up a plant. By. Its roots kills it right. So this is where you can kind of see the connection with conservation. If you're harvesting the roots of a plant, you're you're taking its life away from it right and so that's where you start to come into issues with biodiversity endangerment with a lot of these orchids correct yet because the production of Saleh Pro Juarez, the use of the entire. Plans. So basically in the overwhelming majority of aces harvesting salad means the destruction of the orchestras selves. Now to make one kilo solid requires a by two and a half thousand plans. To the half thousand individuals, Wallin kilo. Of. Salam powder ouch. Yeah. That's a lot of orchids. Now, if you think about one cup of sal but of the equivalent to Cappuccino or something but drinking salad beverage. you need five grams for that. So if you do the math works as Iran thirteen plans for a single cup of salad drink. Does a pretty expensive kind of process in terms of of orchids. and. There are certain people told you know taking one of the to chew birds and putting the other back but all this is all this is just talk really because the amount of work required harvesting these things it's very hard were, and that's one of the reasons why are studied we found a lot of people that actually stopped elected. Elected Saleh. But It's a bypass were talking about something between. Ten. In Turkey and the launch ed very variable. The amount of used something between twenty and AC tones in a single year. Yeah. And that I remember talk from Professor Cramps Zeke, he mentioned that every year and thirteen one, hundred, twenty, million arcades are being kids in order to produce missile of the year. So it's like a tremendous amount of individuals and as able say that it is like you're actually bringing up a whole mountain that say a huge number. Yeah and again, we wouldn't be talking about conservation here. If this was something that was produced agriculturally, right these are all being taken from the wild they're harvested and those numbers are mind blowing I had no idea what we were getting into when. We started talking about this just in terms of quantity and like you said, it's not just the fact that they're pulling these plants out of the ground and them for this it's your digging the whole time you're also disrupting habitats and that's something I never see talked about when it comes to harvesting foraging anything like that is the fact that if you're digging things up your

How Joe Pavelski chose between Stars, Lightning after leaving Sharks

"Many years with the San Jose Sharks, Joe Pavelski last summer was an unrestricted free agent. He visited two teams in free agency. Tampa Bay and Dallas. Podolski, of course, signed with the stars, but he knows the lightning well. No, they're deep teams. They have good team, speed and skill on, you know they have some good defense and a great goalie over there, So there's their team that has something to prove, as well and You know, that's what I think it would make a good measure. With players like Pavelski and Corey Perry, Jamie Benn stars have a nice mix of veterans and young, rising stars. Now this is the first Cup final for Dallas in 20 years, actually it back to back years, 1999 and 2000. Tampa Bay lost to Chicago in 2015 in the Cup final and then was so close to getting there but heartbreak for the Lightning in the Eastern Conference finals in 2016 against Pittsburgh in 2018 against Washington. They lead those Siri's three games to two. They were a game away from the Stanley Cup final on Lito let it get away, and they lost both Siri's In seven games.

Is Powdered Milk Bad For You?

"Recently a listener posted a question about powdered milk on my facebook page. She was wondering whether it's okay to use dried or powdered milk in place a fresh milk. Powdered milk, of course less expensive than fresh milk. It's relatively nonperishable. It's lightweight and portable, and for those reasons, many people include powdered milk in their emergency food stores. In terms of nutrients like. Protein and potassium dried. Milk is comparable to fresh milk, and like fresh milk dried milk powder is usually fortified with vitamins, a and d. you can add dried milk to breads and other baked goods, soups, sauces, smoothies, or other recipes in order to add extra protein and other nutrients. But if you research this question on the Internet, you will quickly come across some sources, claiming that powdered milk is extremely bad for you because it contains oxidized cholesterol, allegedly the most dangerous type of cholesterol. Some of these websites also claimed that powdered milk is added to all low fat and fat free milk in order to give it more body, and they say that there's no way for you to tell whether or not your milk contains added dry milk, because the passengers are not required to list powdered milk in the ingredient list. I mean pretty scary stuff, right? Well as is typical of the nutrition information that you find online, the claims about powdered milk are a jumble of fact, half truths and outright fallacies, so let's take a closer look at the properties and the potential dangers of powdered milk in order to make dried milk pasteurized milk is I concentrated through evaporation, and then it's usually sprayed into a heated tank, and that causes the remaining water to quickly evaporate leaving behind dried milk solids. Milk can also be freeze dried, and because of the lower processing temperatures freeze dried may actually taste more like fresh milk when it's reconstituted, but this much more expensive process, and therefore it's a lot less common. It is true that packager could add dried milk to fresh milk, and because of the way the FDA labeling regulations define milk. They would not be required to list powdered milk in the ingredient list. However, it is absolutely not true that all skim and low fat milk has dried milk added to it. In fact, you might have to work pretty hard to find some that does have dried milk attitude. I spoke with representatives for half a dozen different brands of milk, including national brands like stony field farms and horizon as well as my local store brand, both the organic as well as the conventional and none of them. Add any dried milk to their fresh milk products. There is a brand that you may have seen called. Skim plus it's marketed as being creamier than regular skim milk, and they create that creamy texture by adding dried milk powder to the fresh milk and sure enough. The dried milk is not listed separately in the ingredient list. However when you add dried milk to fresh milk, it also increases the protein content, so you could always just take a quick look at the nutrition facts label, and if you see milk that contains more than nine grams of protein per one cup serving, they may indeed have added dry milk powder to it and if it doesn't, you can be pretty sure that they didn't. Now while you're checking those nutrition facts labels, you may come across fair life milk. This is a brand of milk that is fifty percent higher in protein than normal milk. However, in this case, it's not because they've added dried milk. Instead Fair life is made by passing fresh milk through a series of specialized filters that remove some of the lactose and then and up concentrating the protein. Okay. So, what's all this about? oxidized cholesterol. oxidized cholesterol is cholesterol that's been sort of roughed up around the edges, and that makes it particularly irritating to your blood vessels to make a long story short that irritation is what triggers the formation of plaques, and that is the beginning of heart disease, and what's worse, oxidized cholesterol molecules can intern oxidizer other cholesterol molecules setting off a sort of chain reaction. And it is also true that in the process of turning fresh milk into a powder, the cholesterol in the milk is likely to get oxidized, but nonfat dried milk is not going to be a significant source of oxidized cholesterol, because nonfat milk contains almost no cholesterol to begin with so i. don't think that you need to go out of your way to avoid nonfat dry milk or products that are made with it. Whole milk is somewhat higher in cholesterol so powdered whole milk would pose more of a concern, but perhaps the biggest concern with

"Saver it or don't buy cake. Elliott of the unbreakable body DOT com Ease slowly may only get your first been. Yea once the lead character in the movie chef said to his son as he dove into a plate of venue as well walking along the streets of New Orleans. That line hit me in the face hard. I'm not even sure what happened for the next few minutes of the movie as that line tumbled over and over again in my head my mind exploring it evaluating it examining it from every angle. I'll seeing things from a whole new vantage point. I experienced as you get a lot of first experiences in life but you only get all of them. Once they're not all majestic in fact most are in your day to day life. If you've noticed that the first time when out on a walk you notice. The trees have changed for the season. The first time you have a real meaningful conversation with a new friend who is becoming a best friend. The first time you meditate. Don't quit after four minutes. And then some are majestic as the first time you stand in front of the mountain range. You've dreamed of forever the first time you realize you're turning dreams into reality. The first time you fall in love with a person with yourself with life those moments life is not life without them. You've day to day existence. And then you have first experiences as AL watts puts it. When discussing polarity quote the are different but inseparable size of the same coin there the pulse and the interval in any vibration and quote first experiences are as much moments themselves as they are the times in between each moment. Same as a wave is as much a crest as it is the trough we notice. I experience is happening. Are you savoring them? I've been known to rush into things. I chewed dark chocolate. My Name's Moxy and this is your brain on facts. Use It up where it out make it do were do without my grandmother would say. I thought that was clever saying from her side of the family but it was actually a slogan from World War Two encouraging the public to use fewer resources so more could be diverted to the war effort. We're all getting a taste of that as we're hunker down unable to shop at the spur of the moment and much more limited in our choices when we do thankfully we do have precedent to fall back on after all people are still alive today it through the Great Depression children. The roaring twenties came to an abrupt stop with the Stock Market Crash of Nineteen Twenty nine which saw billions of dollars evaporated into thin air. The crash wasn't the sole cause of the Great Depression. There were things like the dust bowl wherein incorrect farming methods turned the fertile American planes into a desert but the crash did act to accelerate the global economic collapse by nineteen thirty three. Nearly half of America's banks failed and thirty percent of the workforce was unemployed. You had to make the most of what you had and you had to get good at that fast to women. Help struggling homemakers to be able to feed their families. Eleanor Roosevelt an aunt. Sammy beginning in nineteen twenty. Six and Sammy had a popular weekday. Radio show called housekeepers chat about cooking and other domestic concerns as well as chitchatting about whatever else was going on at the time and Sammy was very popular especially in rural areas. Thousands of people wrote into her for recipes by nineteen thirty to one hundred and ninety four stations broadcast aunt. Sammy show and she published aunt. Sammy's radio recipes. Parenthetically the Great Depression Cookbook. It would be the first cookbook published in Braille. Interestingly enough though I struggle to think of how difficult it would be to cook on wood or old timey gas stove without good eyesight on Sammy's recipes. Were meant to be simple healthy and easy to cook. She's even credited with helping Broccoli. Find widespread acceptance prior to which it was only found in insular Italian neighborhoods and Sammie helped many wives and mothers through the Great Depression but once that was over then country was back on its feet. People lost interest. The show was cancelled sometime in the nineteen forties. Though sources don't agree when exactly. There's one other fact about aunt Sammy. That's worth mentioning. She didn't exist in the latter half of the twentieth. The Department of Agriculture Bureau of Home Economics created a wife for uncle. Sam The on creatively named Aunt Sammy. The character was voiced by different women at each individual radio station that way the listener would hear an accent similar to their own and feel more connected to aunt Sammy. Three women worked behind the scenes at the USDA to prepare the script each week that all the regional aunt. Sammy's would use fanny Walker. Contested Recipes Josephine. Harmful wrote the chatty portions of the show and Ruth Fan demine coordinated all of the Menus and recipes. The other woman who guided homemakers through was the very real first lady. Eleanor Roosevelt. When Franklin Roosevelt entered the White House in Nineteen thirty three? A record number of people were hungry but being president is not without its perks and the first family eight well even extravagantly while people stood inbred lines. Eleanor Roosevelt. Who didn't know how to cook realized that the way she and the president ate in the White House had the potential to influence and even help the nation through the depression. She hired an acquaintance. Henrietta Nesbitt whose husband was out of work to be the new White House housekeeper housekeeper at that time more like how we use the term homemaker today and not as we use a euphemism for cleaning lady. Nesbitt and Roosevelt retooled the entire kitchen installing modern appliances and coaxing the skeptical White House staff to use them. This was the first kitchen in America and it wasn't even sanitary recalled. Nesbitt in her memoir. Meanwhile Eleanor turn to home economists for menus that would balance nutrition and economy the healthiest recipes in the world wouldn't help people if they couldn't afford the ingredients what's more she resolved to serve these humble dishes in the White House. Her efforts were covered by national newspapers and followed closely by housewives. There was a catch. These nutritious economic meals were awful. The first kitchen was turning out some of the most unpalatable meals in modern memory. The president himself was usually the test subject for these new dishes and he obligingly choked them down. Things like deviled eggs with tomato sauce and prune pudding in place of lavish dishes. The White House table was the stage for things like Spaghetti with boiled carrots. Cold jellied billion and bread and butter sandwiches served so much mutton that being grown sheep which is cheaper than lamb. Because it's much tougher that it became a joke throughout Washington. The first lady experimented with foods like milk corno a mix of dried milk powder and cornmeal developed by Cornell University milk. Porno could be eaten as a gruel like dish or worked into recipes. I was not brave enough to research. What those recipes might be. The bland meals became so notorious that visitors to the White House would eat before they went nutrition. Not Taste was paramount in the time of soup. Kitchens and bread lines and eleanor. Roosevelt was trying to use her table as a way of encouraging and inspiring other Americans to get through this uniquely challenging historical moment. It was just as well they got used to eating a limited range of food because FDR's presidency also included World War Two and the Roosevelt's eight rationed food just like everyone else Roosevelt's White House eight modestly in an act of culinary solidarity with the people who were suffering. Jane's Eagle men. The CO author of a square meal told The New York Times. Here's a sampling of menu items. The first family and the public general might have enjoyed in massive bunny ears spaghetti with carrots and white sauce. The sauce was basically just milk. Meatless loaf made with peace oatmeal peanuts. Rice and or cottage cheese. Whatever you could get your hands on Mulligan's stew any animal. You could kill or find dead with whatever veggies you could manage or anything. That would keep hungry. They for a few hours without killing you like sawdust. It was reportedly created by the massive homeless population during the depression. Where people in homeless or migrant worker camps would pool their resources so that everyone could eat none of my sources mentioned where the name Mulligan might have come from. We do know the name origin of another STU. Hoover Stu Herbert Hoover had been elected just in time for the crash. But Unlike the Roosevelt's he continued to live the good life in the White House. Shantytowns BECAME HOOVER. Villes and the soup from soup. Kitchens became hoover stu the weirdest one of all and this report is opinion was peanut butter in baked. Onions was a whole onion hollowed out stuffed with peanut butter and baked. Just because we have two things on hand doesn't mean we should eat them at the same time as Eagle men succinctly put it. Peanut butter has nothing to say to a baked onion. Some recipes sound like they shouldn't work but surprisingly do like mock Apple Pie. Apples weren't readily available. But Americans weren't willing to give up their conic Apple Pie. The apples in mock apple pie were actually Ritz crackers and it worked. If you're not already familiar with Youtuber Emmy made in Japan. I'll link her hard time series in the show notes and on the website. She all kinds of dishes from times of deprivation including hot water pie grapefruit. Peel steak toast soup. And even the Haitian dirt cookies which you can hear more about in episode number ninety four. My name is mud while we can be grateful that recipes like ketchup soup and peanut butter and mayonnaise. Sandwiches are behind us. Some food created during the depression is still with us. Meatloaf is a comfort food classic and shaping food into loaves go to during the Great Depression. The same goes for casseroles which were a good way to use up odds and ends or to mask less palatable ingredients the depression also gave us the mother of all comfort. Food Kraft Macaroni and cheese or kraft dinner for my friends up. North in Nineteen thirty seven craft heard about a salesman from the tender Roni. Macaroni Company of Saint Louis. He's so good you're probably instead of making ground meat out of it you can do like a meatball or something or Turkey ball. Yeah yeah or like a really fun Burger. I love that. Like sometimes they'll name it something like Bouchette and then you taste it. And you're like they should've just called it tomato garlic. I like that really delivers on the shuttle flavor. Absolutely it does and four ounces. One hundred sixty calories eight grams of fat for smart points to for to that is excellent. All right next up. We have hunts chilly kit. Just add meat. Ready in twenty minutes. So it's brought to you by. Hunts the people make ketchup? You know the people who make the the other ketchup. And it's a chilly kit. So this is a little bit. It's a smart thing you it's ready in twenty minutes you everything you need. Except for the ground meat of choice we decided to make it with extra lean ground beef and as it is without the beef or any of the meat. Three quarters of a cup is one hundred calories no fat and three smart points as package so it has like the little tomato the sauce and the beans. So we're GONNA try it already semi seasoning. I think That everything I've rhythm Kinda tastes like catcher. I was GONNA say days like they're less good ketchup. I kind of was I. Wish hines me this. What did hunt do before they did? They just automatically become tiniest competition or they have something else besides the ketchup tomato people. Yeah think they do a lot of tomato? This is not an this is not the. It's good but it's not great. It's a little like sour acidic facing. I think it might be good for kids for effort forever not forever viral with that. Yeah I don't know anyway. Let's move on next one. I'm kind of excited about because I saw this as I went up to the kitchen. And the back. They were prepping. It see cuisine smart indulgences Tortilla crusted. Wild Alaska pollock. I would say Alaskan but it's called the Alaska pollock. I guess and the thing is I think seek was in listened to us or took our idea and ran with it but basically we have made a Tortilla in crusted chicken. This is a Tortilla incrusted. Pollock which I didn't realize anyone ever called anything pollick. I thought pollock was just like fake crab the other white meat even the other whitefish before you tasted the story with C. Cuisine. They're the ones that made the salmon that we didn't like didn't they? Make one thing we liked and one thing we know I think this is like their redemption. I love it. You know what I like about it. It's like soap crispy and crunchy so it's Each belay has two hundred and forty calories. Six grams of fat seven smartphones. That's really tasty. That's like the best fish on the planet it is. It does taste like a fish. Stick to air. Fox did we airfreight or BEGA. How do we do it? I bet we have tortilla crested wild Alaska Pollack with smart ingredients. Oh Yeah do you see all the different things that goes on the cross. Yeah we named him so they are Yellow Corn Black Bean Jalapeno Chili tomato lime cumin Cilantro. Paprika they did not dial it in. I want more of that. It's Great Roy. Wheels aren't turning when the cameras. There are no cameras but when when the audio wasn't rolling I'll be eating more about if we had cameras rolling. Do you think we would do our little dance. In the beginning of the episode with the Music Lisa kind of has like a like a ninety s like Humpty Hump kind of thing. I don't have it. I don't know what you're no. No you did this did that. Jamie Jamie Shuffle. Bought my head your head. Okay all right. We should have cameras rolling. Okay moving on. This is an exciting product for a knife. I WANNA cut these. This is fun because I grew up as a white castle fan. I'm a New Yorker. My Dad and I like if we were sometimes alone on father's Day I don't know why we would be but a couple of years I remember. We went to white castle father's day when was like seven. I don't know where my mom and my siblings were. But we were there now. They're making Vegan White Castle. Black beans sliders stats are incredible but little little side. Note here about me. Because I'm from the West Coast. I've never been to white castle. The only white castle I know of is the frozen white castle.

"So there's another one designate one glass of drinking water each day. I love this one. I do this myself. I have a hydro flask. I carry around constantly. It's thirty two ounces. The only place I drink water out of. House. I do have one Cup when I'm home. It's my shoe Cup and minds the saints. Think alike. I don't know. What about my kids hasn't learned from daddy on how to do this? My house is like back to Mel Gibson movie signs glasses of water everywhere. You know, the girl this water tastes funky, and they end up with all these cups go that that is part of my house. Reduce reduce the number of times you need to wash up use the same one all day. Don't use running water for food to thaw. That takes a lot of planning ahead of time. No, the think ahead, you know, take it out of the freezer put it in the refrigerator. I'm always on the fence about something that's frozen that you just put in the sink provided. It's covered because I do a lot of vacuum sealing. So but most of the time I'll put it in the refrigerator, let it thaw out and then bring it out to room temperature, then start cooking it. But now I understand I have to do it with water couple times a month myself. It takes the life happens. Sometimes you gotta pull something out of the freezer and get it thought. So you can get something for your hungry kids. But I will tell you this don't use hot water when thawing I know, it sounds.

And when I was first discovering how to turn things read in a natural way. I had never noticed beet juice because who drinks speeches. I don't, but there was in the juice. And a large bowl you're going to combine the Honey the oil and the applesauce beat pure. Ray or the juice in eggs. So basically, all of your wet ingredients you're going to gradually add in your flour. And then mixed thoroughly until everything is combined nicely. Let them cool on Iraq now for the frosting, while they're cooling, you can just frost the plain Greek yogurt wants the cake is completely cooled. You don't want to put it on there when it's still warm or you can take the Greek yogurt and mixed together. A little dollop of creamy peanut butter and a small amount of Honey can just kinda squeeze a little bit of Honey in there and just mix it to see what kind of consistency you want and that kind of gives it a little extra flavor now when you're enjoying your own red velvet cake your dog can join in on the tasty fund as well. And they will appreciate you. I promise. No, another fun treat that uses the heart shaped ice tray. That I mentioned earlier is probably the easiest treat you will ever make. It's like a homemade less expensive version of frosty paws that you can buy at the store, and all you need is the plain Greek yogurt, which you may already have if made the red velvet cake and then creamy all natural peanut butter and then the ice tray. And that's it. Now any one of those soft candy mold trays will do the trick. So if you're into making chocolates candy for yourself, you can use one of those soft. Pliable candy molds that will be fine. Your first going to drop a small amount of peanut butter into each mold. And that amount will depend on. How big your molds are just kind of line the bottom with a little scoop of peanut butter, then drop in your yogurt into each mold. Just enough to fill scrape off the top with your spoon and make sure each one is even then you'll pop it into the freezer for about four hours or until they're hard pop them out of the tray. And you've got festive frozen treats, you can even drizzle. A little bit of natural Honey.

"Anyway thought it was the most hilarious idea that these police officers with dealing with just six incidents extreme violence in extreme volumes policing is a job the takes a heavy toll what's expected of them in many senses psychologically too much one cup friend he dealt with rape case as many and murder i asked what do you do in he said i take a week off and i stay my flat and i drank for weaken the got back onto utopia again while some police struggle others thrive amid the criminality we heard the police minister accused his own officers of corruption last year a top police officer in charge of fyrom licensing was convicted of selling more than two thousand confiscated guns to criminals and gangs those sorts of things are going on all the time so you you have this mixture of guide one desk transhall crimes and the guy at the other one sending those things on and during the time that mug you'll fahed spent with the police she sold their role changing officers were redeployed from detective work to riot policing the pulling away the takes of services is a disaster and they know it you know unless you have people giving intelligence around who's dealing which drugs wear in his paying guns n' yukon catch them yukon prosecute the case it so that conference thick counter the jobs a first expert witness has given us brief portraits of what this disaster means personally the 12yearold victims of brutal violence the police officer overwhelmed and driven to drink citizens living in fear that if we put all these portrait's together what's the bigger picture.
