"So we've taken a lot more breath we take in these big deep breaths. We've been told that that's the key debris then deeply through your nose and out through your mouth. And he makes a real argument for breathing in a lot more slowly and only through your nose. Do not out through your mouth. so i'm not. I'm just summing up like this whole book of of research and data and all of this take it what you will but for me. It has really mattered. I have been laying in bed and focusing on my breathing. I have been you know when. I've taken a walk really noticing how i'm breathing. My chest gets really tight when i get anxious. And so in order to take in more air. I do use my mouth primarily when i am feeling anxious. I've tried in the last week or to really stop. That and i almost felt like i was kind of a panic attack in a store yesterday because i was forcing myself to not open my mouth into only breathe through my nose while i was having some stress. I don't know if it worked or didn't but it is making me very mindful of the way that i'm breathing and also he just makes the history of it interesting like i thought. Evolution part of it was fascinating. And so yeah. I don't know if i made a good case for breath by james nestor. But it's not as boring as it sounds to read a whole book about your nose. First of all the sounds absolutely fascinating. I have been thinking about breathing a lot lately as well. Because i've been having a little bit of anxiety and i'd like you said i get a racing heart in my chest and i also play a lot of sports and i feel like i'm more out of breath and others around me even though objectively. I'm in really good shape. So this is fascinating. I never knew you weren't supposed to breathe through your mouth. And this sounds like an audiobook that i should listen to to. These should because it's also changed. The shape of our teeth like our ancestors did not have crooked teeth when our skulls were wider and win their breath wasn't going through their mouth as much human skulls. Teeth were straighter now. Breathing through in and out of our mouth and also the way we eat and also because our skulls have gotten narrower which is crowded things in its. I just thought it was so interesting and the the sports piece is huge. A whole section on athletes. Who trained trained themselves to not breathe it all through their mouth and like how would extended their running times. They were making like personal records. There's been a few different experts over the years. Some of this old like from older olympics and stuff like that who trained athletes specifically in their breathing slower so not panting and through their nose and how it has changed their sports performance. So if that's something that's of interest to you then you'll like that section. I thought the whole thing was interesting. Actually absolutely i have a tennis match on wednesday. And i am going to try this out for sure. It also sounds like..

Berlin-Tel Aviv 2036 Olympics Would Be ‘a Mark of Reconciliation’

"Come to the promised. Podcast brought to you on t. Lv one the voice of the city. That was just proposed as a possible venue for the twenty thirty six olympics which will be the thirty sixth modern olympics now that the international olympic committee just decided that the thirty fifth olympiad in twenty thirty two will be in brisbane australia. The twenty thirty six games are now for bid. The proposal was floated. in last. week's berliner morgenpost in a column written by franck koale ski a lead organizer of the two thousand and eighteen european track and field championships in berlin and ricard ming. The president of the german olympic association. The two men began by observing. What maybe obvious that berlin could not host the twenty thirty six games because berlin hosted the nineteen thirty six weeks which were by then german. Chancellor adolf hitler and held in stadiums festooned with swastikas. You may remember. There was some unpleasantness back. Then so berlin is out or is it. Kurowski wrote quote so why not send a completely new strong signal of peace and reconciliation in twenty thirty six a signal that does not hide from history but takes up the responsibility that comes from it. It would be such a signal. If and israel apply together more precisely berlin and tel aviv with the sailing and surfing competitions on the eastern mediterranean but also with other sports such as beach volleyball in israel's lively metropolis as a clear signal of how responsibility arises from

"Wants to reward is consistency over a cycle. And so they don't wanna punch gets hot to kinda nip a birth knockout one of their powerhouse teams. They really want artifices for the tv package. Right you don't want in. They don't want team. Canada or sweden switzerland missing the olympics. Because that would be not great for the olympic package. Four this event we saw scotland go from sending the winner of its national championship to a selection process going forward. You're probably going to see the number of teams who win their way to world's be greatly outnumbered by teams who were selected by committee. In fact when you consider the process in the us and switzerland really the only two countries where conceivably anyone in that country could go to worlds. You're basically down to just canada and japan so jonathan did covid nineteen in the situation where now we have no season leading up to a world championship. That's a glorified. Olympic qualifier to determine more than half of the available olympic spots. Did that situation expedite the professionalization of curling. Maybe i think. I don't know if it's gonna come down to a straight up selection by committee process. I think what we saw. Is that when people have to sit down and make us election. They're going to select off order of merit points and to be honest today. The only way a teen could accumulate. An order of merit points to qualify for world's in most countries is if they're funded able to play a full season so by full season. I mean they're paid to train full time. They're paid to kind of Go on tour and play ten to thirteen events a year and that's simply not possible for someone with a job. I think that what. I think the bigger question an issue that's gonna come down. The pipe is what happens in.

Micro Four Thirds: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

"So this is an interesting decision for me. And i've gone over the pros and cons and let's start with why. I like microphone thirds in the first place. Now we've covered this extensively. I'm just gonna do a bullet list of top of mind. Things that really jumped out at me when i pickup a microphone thirds camera and the first thing that i think of these days. Is this fantastic lens. Catalog that you get with microphone thirds. I mean my gosh. You can get everything from an ultra super telephoto that you can handhold right to an ultra compact prime lens. That is barely bigger than the camera body itself. And i can find just the right thing that i want in the microphone thirds mount. And it's interesting. When i look at the lenses that i have for microphone third. They do fall into these two categories. I have my big lenses. My favorite big lands is the olympics. Forty two one fifty two eight pro. I just absolutely love that lands. I think it is a fantastic design the performances wonderful. And if you put the matched two x tele converter on it you go from eighty to three hundred which is really one sixty six hundred in field view equivalency all that and i cannot tell losing a pixel worth a quality by using the wwre so i mean in the big lens category for me. That is my sweet spot but there are other optics. And i actually put my seventy five millimeter. F one eight in the big lance Category because it is especially when you have the metal the matched metal lens hood on it. It's a heavy lands. It's relatively big lens and it's a sweet lands

"The early make especially the the shop. Makings been a more hit and miss but Perhaps with a couple of slams under their belt and time on the surface that will improve the quality of the event to and we will talk about that more later in this preview just like the men's world championship teams who finish in the top. Six in qualify for playoffs will also secure a spot at the beijing olympics. If there is one of the top six in they make the playoffs they will not add. They will not take the seventh place team is china is already in as the host so top. Six teams qualify have to make the playoffs to qualify for beijing. If you finished seventh in china's playoffs you're still going to the olympic qualification event. So anyone who does not make the playoffs at this event will head to the oh. Qe which is currently scheduled for december fifth through tenth. and there they will be joined by qualifiers from the open intrigue pre olympic qualifier which is currently scheduled for october. Twenty third through thirtieth jonathan. Do you want to get into the teams. Yes i do. We're going go alphabetical order. I have decided which means that we will start with canada. Canada has one women's world seventeen times the last time coming in two thousand eighteen. Which was jennifer jones in north bay by winning her second consecutive scotties carry anderson does in fact get to get her first chance to participate in worlds by the time. Women's world rolls around. This team will be very used to the calgary bubble. In addition to winning the scotties. All four team members played in the mixed doubles championships with anderson sweding and burchard qualifying for playoffs. They are also scheduled to play in the two grand slams that we mentioned. Is there such a thing as too much time in the bubble jonathan. I i don't think it matters for team. I understand 'cause got gaps in between right so it kinda works out well for them. They kind of go in get some time out. Go back in. Get some time out so i think it has an impact on them but with quarantine rules in manitoba. I don't think they were able to go home. "olympics" Discussed on Why It Matters

"For many sports, the Olympics is the apex of what they can achieve as athletes, and it's a chance for the world to see incredible incredible athletes out there on the world stage. My name is Julius boy, cough and I. Teach Political Science at Pacific University, Oregon. Professor boy cough has written four books about the Olympics and as it turns out. He's also a former member of the US men's Olympic soccer team. and. That is really why the Olympics have stuck around and Ben so successful. Were it not for the athletes? We wouldn't really have the Olympic Games of course the money shuffle has become a big part of that. We can talk about that later, but for athletes in lesser known sports, sake curling in the Winter Olympics or maybe equestrian or something like that in the Summer Olympics, this is their one chance to make big. Now I think we have to remember that. The Olympics the Olympic Games themselves are a value or ideal driven event. I'm Katherine Moon and I am a professor of political. Science at Wellesley College I study issues related to eastasia particularly the Koreas and I love to talk about culture and values in international politics. As much as we say, it is about pure athleticism and fairer competition. It really was an is about ideals, human, being the human spirit to strive for excellence, and to do once best, and to be proud to be wist others who are excellent in their fields. And I think that's what drives people to go to the Olympics and to watch the Olympics. It's changed my life completely. Cultures and values together. Research big. So. It's July and we were supposed to start watching the summer Olympics in about a week, so what the heck happened! Yeah. The Olympics got corona virus and. They had to push back for a year. When you look back at that moment, there were calls to cancel the Olympics. There were calls to postpone the Olympics and the members of the International Olympic Committee seemed determined to press ahead with the games this at a time when other sports were shutting down, world soccer was shutting down various sports leagues around the world, and yet the International Olympic Committee felt like they needed to press ahead and the real reason why the. International Olympic Committee finally acted was because Canada basically said they were going to do a de facto boycott. If the Games were held in twenty twenty, they were soon followed by. The National Olympic Committees from Australia Portugal Germany, and when that all happened the International Olympic Committee had no choice but to postpone, and that's exactly what they did so now. They're slated for July twenty twenty one. To move has finally been confirmed. The signs are all over Tokyo symbols of what was supposed to be the Japanese revival. A comeback crushed at least for now. We're talking about it. Doesn't it seven years in the making millions of dollars. Two hundred countries at eleven thousand athletes. You can't just pick another date on the calendar. The Olympic Games have only been canceled three times. The first time was in nineteen sixteen during World War One. The second and third time we're in one, thousand, nine, hundred, forty and nineteen, forty, four, due to World War Two. It's still unclear whether the twenty twenty games will become forth historic cancellation. The current plan is to begin them on July Twenty Fourth Two thousand twenty one. But. Many experts are skeptical of this time line, arguing that there is no guarantee that the corona virus will be fully under control in a year. Still the struggle to preserve the twenty twenty games shows just how invested host countries become an success. What's at stake for Japan as the situation plays out. Well Japan has plunged a lot of money and prestige and human capital into making the Games happen if we think back to when they were originally bidding on the Olympics, they said that the entire escapade would cost seven point three billion dollars, but by the time this summer rolled around, they had spent some twenty eight billion dollars, according to an audit by the Japanese government, and so that's four times what they had originally planned postponing means adding anywhere from two to six billion dollars. Those are the best guesses that we have now. So what's at stake for Japan is they've already spent way more money than they expected and now they might not even get the Olympics to actually

"olympics" Discussed on Why It Matters

"I'll be the first to admit that I am not a huge sports fan. I don't follow the NBA and I tend to wander away from the TV during Football Games, but I do love to watch the Olympics, and that's because it's actually super cool to see whole nations rallying behind one team. It becomes something more than a game. It becomes this uniting cultural moment. It's like a global holiday, and so with a little bit of extra couch time on my hands I was very ready to tune into this summer's Tokyo Olympics the perfect distraction. But the July twenty twenty Olympic. Games aren't going to be held this month. They've been postponed by a full year. This decision wasn't made lightly. And in fact, Japan is working around the clock to try to figure out how to keep their games. Despite a global pandemic, it's part of a long story for decades. Just like their athletes. Countries have competed fiercely to host the Games despite mounting evidence that they usually represent a significant financial loss, and that made us ask why, if not money, what's the games offer that so special and worth so much effort I'm Gabrielle Sierra and this is why it matters today, the Olympics soft power and the deep running politics of the World Games. For many sports, the Olympics is the apex of what they can achieve as athletes, and it's a chance for the world to see incredible incredible athletes out there on the world stage.

"How. You're starting to make me near starting to influence me. Maybe it is better as an Olympic sport as an Olympic style thing, because that's what the Olympics does. It says we don't have one competition. We have track and we have swimming, and we have multiple competitions in each of those east sports isn't a sport. It's multiple sports. Maybe there needs to be an e sports Olympics. It's maybe shouldn't be part of the normal Olympics. But but but that that's scale that you're talking about. The only thing that similar to it are the Olympics and things like the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, etc. But now you have the other issue of how do you divide teams. Because right now, each word is run by like its own little Eastham conduct. Then for over once you have things that are based our franchise system, but then for counter strike teams that are a little more distributed. In some cases, when you'd have national, you'd have national committees for the sports Olympics that would pull the plug just like you do for hockey and swimming and everything like your overhead. It does not currently exist. You know, it's a lot of stuff that has to would have to be built and that is a question of, would it be worth it for Eastport? Do I do like the idea of an ovum picks of sports? I think that's where I met. It's not a World Cup. You can have a World Cup for CS go. You can have a World Cup the of the international already, right? You know, like that that exists, but maybe there should be like every four years ago during v athletes in what to ply, their game of of a favor. And it shouldn't be part of the international Olympics because it has different needs..

"They're not career ending in that same fence what there is a whole conversation. Behead. Some folks in our chat room are having this conversation right now, but whether e sports is in fact an Olympic sport, right? You don't have auto racing in the Olympics because not trying to step on auto racing fans toes, but it doesn't fit the definition of of of the physical sport that the Olympics has decided to put out. There. So I can see an argument along those lines to say, hey, it's a great competition. It's a great sport. It's not an Olympic sport that would be fine. But that's not what Bach was say. We can have that discussion, but that's no, he was saying the problem was, these are killer games. And honestly, I mean, legal legends arena, valor, baby class Royal the only ones even close to that and they're not. And they're, they're fantasy. So. Yeah, it's very hard to have a real world equivalence to that sort of match. You could make kind of some are comparisons and possibly come up with some sort of real world fantasy playground. That would be very expensive to Kenner, which would be really fun, but also still not an Olympic sport. 'cause I very highly technical, but I, I don't know if I'm a former internationally petted Bassey and I chase the Olympics for many, many years. I also look at games. I've been appointing on them for most of my life. I don't know if I want these two together. I think that eastwards world is growing, just fine. Hunt zone doesn't need the scene. And if it's such a complicated, mainly force has reached its own legitimacy does not need the approval, these other bodies. And while I think that may be what the Olympics risks is pushing exports into making a decision that is good for east sports, not so good for. The Olympics, right? You can argue and I think I think you you do sorta hit on the head like it's not obvious that these belong in the Olympics and east sports is doing fine on its own. A World Cup of east sports makes perfect sense, right. A world championship of east ports are, if not a World Cup makes perfect sense. In some ways, to my mind, it makes more sense than including it in even the Asian Games is certainly if not the Olympics. Because again, we don't. We don't have poker in the Olympics. So should we have hearth stone in the Olympics. And every sports has its own mega event. How do you know something like the international alongside something like Yvo, he's are different crowds with different time requirements for matches with different obligations in so like international, you're feeling these stadiums endlessly is huge lines. How do you for most events like that together? How do you manage a hotel? How do you get everybody who's game city on the scale of this is so huge for each individual resort? How can you mostly like six of these events together at once..
