"It's the morning show that no one knows no one is talking about is talking about data entry way to start old welcome today fifteen of the last ninety days orange welcome to the first Tuesday of the rest of your life welcome to the loneliest room in the Hollis House my lady my wife my Rachel Hollis she's not a year she's on an airplane and that means that you're stuck with me for a Tuesday morning version of the star of the morning the morning show that literally no one is talking about David David you're gonNA say literally a lot I probably am welcome to this Sir morning extravaganza from the color coordinated studios started morning show I am here Rachel Hollis flies ooh Chicago Illinois Chicago Illinois is where she is flying today she is going to be speaking on stage later today and then we'll be on an airplane where she is then flying to San Diego where she will be on another stage speaking she has two events to speak on this week she has one more event two weeks from now in Canada and then she is done speaking on the stages of other human beings who she's excited I'm excited for all of the work that she's done but also for that season of life to be finished I got a new watch isn't that crazy people at Garmin not an ad they sent me a Dang watch they're smart they knew I'd tell people about this darn watch it's great I gotTa Tell You you it actually just tells you how far you go so the united to run with your phone in your hand so I'm excited about that we're in the middle of the last ninety days Alan Jr I don't know if you're familiar with this but last ninety days is the idea of US committing to a set of habits that allow us to end the year strong as we might normally we start a year and the way that we are trying to close out this year is in community all of you and us together doing our thing around this thing called the five to thrive where we're getting up an hour early or drinking literally all of the water we're giving up one category of food just to show her suvs that we can keep a promise to ourself we're moving our body for thirty minutes and we are starting our day with gratitude speaking of sound off one to sound got three four who has done their start today journal Practice Listen Waking Up doing this exercise jury in what for me has been a harder couple of weeks worth of time in the aftermath of some unexpected loss has been transformative it's always been in a practice that has been so so important in my life but I don't know that I totally appreciated how important it might be on the days when I was ESPEC- elite motivation challenged or was especially distracted by the UN fortunate unexpected things that showed up in life focusing on gratitude every morning even in the midst of times when you do not feel grateful necessarily changes the way that your brain is thinking about life and is in your every moment walking through life in search of things that you can be grateful for so I really really encourage you the journal but please do the practice you are going to go through a time where unexpected things show up and disrupt your life and you can stay connected to this practice where you are focused on gratitude to start your day it will change the way that you think about your day this week on the last ninety days challenge in the last night as challenge. Listen if you're wondering what's this challenge I just kind of explained it but it's a totally free community challenge if you WANNA be part of it you can join literally at anytime just go to the House Co dot com forward slash last nine zero days we are happy to have you at any time we have tried to go week by week into an individual themes so that we can work through the end of topics that will allow us to make it through the twelve thirteen weeks worth of this challenge in as a community do it strong with a ton of momentum and the notion all the other things and the thing that we're talking about this week is the idea of quitting on yourself why do we quit on ourselves what might it mean to choose to not put on ourselves and what's what do we have to think about it due to understand a little bit of why we do what we do when it comes to quitting so I would just like take a minute since it's just me by myself and dive into you a little bit of a conversation around quitting that for me was an important way for me to kind of unpack why do the things I do whenever struggle in my life when I wrote my book I was trying to explain how I was getting in my own way but is it enough just to explain hey I did this thing and then I started doing this other thing I had to understand why I did it so that in understanding why I did it I might be able to who at the root cause effect the reasons why I was doing that thing quitting is one of those things right so I think if you're a person who's ever struggled with staying on track or if as you are in this challenge you anticipate that you may in fact at some point in challenge struggle with the idea of being tempted to or giving into quitting understanding why we quit I think is an important first step to potentially changing how we have normally just accepted quitting as a thing that we do so I read this article was talking about New Year's resolutions the crazy stat is that forty percent of people that live in the United States of America making New Year's solution every single year and only eight percent of those people actually follow through and complete the thing that they have sent set as a resolution which is bonkers but we're not going to have that kind of statistic inside of this group because we're going to spend time understanding why People on a challenge so when you dive into the detail of y people make these resolutions star these challenges commit to doing hard things and then falling off the why is to me a super important thing so the first why is we can't change our behaviour without changing our thinking right we can't change their behavior without changing our thinking if we say we're going to do something but don't change the way we think about doing some something we're not going to actually do something and so we have to start by fundamentally changing the way that we think about the challenge I see someone say read power having power of habit is an amazing book and we'll fundamentally changed the way you think about embracing habits and how you have to change your mindset to actually make habits happened for real motivation is all mental like I know there are some people that wake up and are more motivated but honestly I'm GonNa Argue that they have just hacked their mindset in a way that engineers they're being for being motivated in a way that other people who have not yet hacked their mindset have not when it comes to exercise when it comes to writing a book when it comes to drinking the water when it comes to I'm doing a thing you know you should do you have to just tell yourself to do it even when you don't WanNa do it because it's what you know you need need to do and it doesn't make it easier necessarily until you get into such a algorithm in such a habit that it just becomes the thing that you do it becomes the person that you are but motivation is mental there is this thing it's called a Cratia I don't even know how to say it but I am reading this article I saw this crazy it's the state of mind in which someone acts against their better judgement through weakness of will a Cratia it's like a vocabulary day here in the start today morning show but we fail to act on the things that we know that we should because of some kind of weakness and the weakness in like why we aren't actually acting is usually because the benefits of what we are committing to are delayed they don't happen immediately and because they aren't immediate they are things that we become impatient in patient with and that impatience gives us the option of opting out and you have to resist atttempt station if you WANNA adopt some successful exercise if you want to read a book if you want to drink the water if you WANNA do whatever it is you have to adopt a mindset that believes with one hundred percents certainty that it's not a chore that it's not some punishment that it's not some like thing that you are putting on your back and having to struggle your way through you have to see the benefits to your overall mental and physical health so that you can see the ready to reach for it as a privilege as a gift the ability for you to get up and move your body every day is a deft and you have to see it as that it doesn't mean that you're going to see results on day one but if you can flip your mindset into believing thing that the thing that you are choosing to do is for you and that doing it is a privilege it will change the way that you think about the thing the idea of mind over matter it's real the idea of mind over matter Israel I I think about like the point in my longest runs where I feel I can maybe stopping right I get I'm running I'm on the roads I'm crushing it's great and then I start to think about how my legs are tired are to think about and I was reading this article it was in psychology today it was talking about the way that this guy was describing his running journey and I totally relate to it and he was saying look when he started to think about the end of his run reaching the end of his run was equated to reaching the end of his pain and that was the the he started to focus on that was the thing he started to think about more than anything else I love you guys have a fantastic I love you when you change your focus to the end of the run okay I'll see a little bit change your focus to the end of the run when you change your focus to the alleviation of the discomfort that you had been previously choosing for the benefits that it would produce you start thinking about how little you can withstand it for a long period of time and your brain starts thinking different I wrote this book number one look at this it's a freaking book on paper there are words printed inside of this book but when I was in writing this book it was hard because I at the beginning I was like I'm going to go do this I'm gonNA write about all the is things that are harder than I've ever tried to like right I'm going to spend time doing something I've never done before and then I got to this place where I started thinking about out how hard it was how much I wanted to get to the end and every time I focused on the end instead of persevering through the difficulty of writing this book I was tempted to quit because it felt like it was so there was so much left to do it like it was going to be such a hard thing felt like it felt like it was overwhelming and so the idea that like I could handle a certain amount of pain in writing this I can handle a certain amount of pain when I'm running on the roads is a thing that if you believe it will become true and so the ability for us.

"It's the morning show that no one knows no one is talking about is talking about They did they probably the best way to start to age just told us we will show you you're live to some of your followers this psalm it's what happens with all social media as like build up a following and then we will only give you access to three percent of it if you would like the rest please pay US money it's crazy instagram why would you withhold the star today morning show from everyone it is I've gone through this I've been on the Internet making content for women for Gosh like twelve years so I have been through this process many times before if you do work if you have a business or you work in social media all the kids to not get upset because us is the nature of the beast if you want to go on social platforms with organic reaches as high as it can be I would suggest you check out tick Tock and nxt in which have the highest organic retried now but normally that's real honor instagram we would have about five thousand people watching this live and right now we have about two thousand so instagram you're the worst we're happy to have all of you that are here but I just feel the other people now wish it probably needs in their lie there wishing but believed they don't have it so here we are everyone did you notice the Rachel's wearing a vintage Tom Petty t shirts before doesn't matter we should show it off every single time that you're because it's awesome one of my favorite things are vintage concert tease I have three of them now and like as in like they are original not inexpensive fleetwood Mac I've got Tom Petty and then my two best friends got me Reba mcintire which is everything that you want it to be a Reba mcentire concerts he from the eighties is everything that you want it to be and I'll show it off your at some point when put it into outfit I had it altered so that it is a muscle you had you had a concert T. altered exit was it was super big on me and I wanted to actually all right fair but you know what else I altered the rock workout tank top that I really loved you with kept wearing the yellow often I wanted it but they only had it in immense extra-large I'm five to you guys and I was like you know what I'm getting I'm getting it and then did I pay more than the shirt cost to have it altered to fit my tiny body so I could work out it didn't feel strong like the rock you did you know I did sized tank top you're going out to the home jam you gotTa Giresse Pass my niece will next time I'll take some scissors and I can him the bottom of a tank top I am good at hemming here's a question that asked Dave this is sort of a related to what we're talking about not really just go with me this question I asked even I think it's a valuable question for any of you who are watching this live or listening to it on podcast to ask yourself what what is what are the moments in your life where you feel content most happy like your best moments are this so mine I've known this for a very long time and I built my life around trying to incorporate these moments my most blitz I out thing that I can possibly do in my life is very simple having coffee with Dave looking over a view and if that view as of Water X. Okay so having coffee with Dave looking out overview is my favorite thing in me I universe there's nothing that I love more than sipping some coffee looking at some water next to my love talking out life right here's the thing you asked him what mine was in real in real time it didn't involve anybody else because mind getting like I actually really really enjoyed oy running by myself 'cause it's just like man my my ability to process things and just like connect with like nothingness really but I didn't want to hurt your feelings because honestly next to you with coffee and I want to leave everyone I know and be on the road eh it doesn't matter what it is it matters that you know what it is that you spend some time contemplating what that looks like for you because if you know it is you can set up your life around that idea so for instance when we when we moved here we have a most beautiful guard we live in Texas so country in our bedroom had like these two tiny windows over what would essentially be like this beautiful land we had bought these eight acres of Texas oh country and the our house is amazing I love this place the only real like construction we did on the house was we knocked out the back wall which the bedroom was so great but because I knew that this is my greatest thing in life I was like I want a wall of glass and into comfy chair setup in front of this wall of glass where we are GonNa sit on Saturday and Sunday morning coffee together one of the greatest things in life we were with John Max so last week and he was saying one of his favorite things in life is a a long delicious dinner with people he loves and it doesn't matter it is but I would challenge you to think of what is just your most like it shouldn't be something that's hard to pull off right it'd be something that you can easily access and then challenge yourself how many times can you incorporate that into a week by the way that like us we had this conversation against the backdrop of something that was not great this weekend we had to go to a memorial for a brother-in-law and so Rachel intentionally found a place that we could rent that would afford US having this moment to have our coffee so that we can have the silver lining in the midst of a thing that was a gray cloud yeah and so that was that's a good point so we picked a place that ended up being a little bit further from where his his funeral was because I had found an airbnb that overlook the water they live on the Oregon coast and I found a airbnb that overlooks the water and I thought you know what this weekend is going to be so awful and so hard but I could ground myself that morning in this and we did we sat on the sofa before the sun even rose so we were looking at the moonlight over the water on drink coffee for hours and just like I don't even know that we talk that much it was just like sitting there in that before we went into this really hard day so what that's worth I think it's a question that that people don't often ask themselves it is very easy to make sure your life is filled with joy as it looks to you if you know what that is important to being intentional about the identifying it so the can actually engineer your life to produce it that was the whole point I love that point it's a great one we are weak three days give us a heart or a thumbs up if you are doing last night as challenge with us Oh if you're not familiar it is our community-wide totally free challenge to live the last ninety days of the year as intently we tend to start the first thirty if you are not already signed up dude it is free the emails are bomb you get an email every week from us with what the theme is this week and then some tools to help you take a deeper dive you can sign up at the Hollis Co dot com forward slash last ninety days ask nine zero days the email that came out this morning was is all about this idea of not quitting on yourself there it was a great video that came out of Rachel's coaching there was a great podcast episode that talked about this topic so there are resources they are free resources and the email if you didn't see it open your email and check it out if you are like what email you talking about just go sign up it's completely free and each week you're going to get thing that helps you process a thing why why on week three would we wanNA talk about not quitting on yourself because as the first line of the email suggests the new car smell of this challenge is wearing off like hey I'm Hashtag last ninety days look at how awesome this is it so now it's just it's just work you have to stay dedicated to it and so we thought why not spend a week talking about why we quit on ourselves the cycle the quitting on yourself what it means to push through and not put on yourself so we're going to get into it all week long Canadian thanksgiving happy Thanksgiving Canadians Canadian oh man idea arshile ground for Canadians someone's who said I quit on chocolate hold on this is good I quit on chocolate for thirty days it three times and didn't even realize it until hours later okay couple of things on that number one I went to dinner last week with one of our partners that we work with on some business the staff who's like such an incredible support of the thing he's doing last ninety days and we sit down and I was dying really wanted chips in Guatemala at this great Mexican restaurant and so it was like hey ordered chips in walk in when I get there and eat them so I get there and he and I both start eating chips o'clock and then he's on like is fourth chip and then all of a sudden he's like no because the thing that he gave up for last ninety was fried food and he's so disappointed himself he's like I have not eaten this how am I sitting with you and I make my girlfriend is GonNa Freak out whatever the thing is it actually is hard to give up something so you can accidentally eat during a mean like you can accidentally have chocolate it's mixed into something in not being conscious of it so giving up a category food means that you have to be really intentional intentional about the bites you take like giving up alcohol for thirty days is super hard but I also knew something a Lotta y'all did it which was I'm not accidentally going to drink alcohol like you have to be intentional about like making a cocktail versus if you gave up sugar which a lot of Gals in our office gave up sugar sugar's in everything so it's a really hard one to give out so I just want you to be graceful with yourself if you did that but also even if intentionally did it let's say you're like you had a hard day and you're like screw this man I'm eating the chocolate that's okay none of us are perfect and this is not a challenge is to live every day you know perfect doing it all this is a challenge to get back up you did something great start again by the again the number one reason why I have given up on things that I was committed to the number one reason it is not even close to the number two three four or five years is that my brain when I make a small mistake decides to throw everything out the window because if I'm already off the wagon let's just go ahead and roll the wagon into the ditch light it on fire and let it burn harder a thumbs up if that's you and so you have to in like in racing this grace realize that hey ninety days is a long time you are if you do make a mistake but if you do don't let that small mistake turned into something thing that gives you then the permission to completely give up on yourself get rid of any of the discipline any of like don't do that I've done it plenty of times and then I find itself like back even further behind where I even started the challenge so have have a have a little bit of grace if you fall off and then get right back on yeah it's okay I'm a hundred percent if you haven't started here's the thing if you listen to this you're like I didn't even start that ninety day challenge come onboard for you it's like a seventy five days Alan you can start today power let's let's roll there's no there's no reason to not start it even if you haven't yet come on in Yeah Waterston yeah oh my gosh I had such a good thing in our care remember oh I remember what it was speaking of giving things up I I wanNA talk about it because it was a super big deal for me I gave up alcohol for last night he days and then had the most horrible thing happen that absolutely would normally have led me to drinking alcohol so we lost our brother-in-law but like I lost a brother gave known this man since I was three years old like this was beyond not that people aren't close with brother-in-law's but this was beyond just my sister's husband and when it happens a wanted to drink and then I got through that first night and I was like okay you're fine and then going into town this weekend I had traveled to to San Diego to Atlanta to Oregon it was really intense three days of travel to pull off making there for the funeral and compounded with all my family's there which let's be honest sometimes families need a handle your family right and then compounded with the place that we were at we used to live when I was little and so there were all of these people who knew me when I was a baby but I didn't know them and so I'm already very emotional and it's super hard and then people are like do you remember me and I'm like no I know you're a lot and we finished the super holiday and I wanted to drink I literally said today and having a drink like I don't even care I'm having a drink I gotta be honest in a world where you are always my accountability person I was like go ahead have a drink geico sign on this day there's so many triggers if you wanna have a drink have a drink.

glance there were one hundred eighty eight thousand active last ninety days challenge people like we are a community this is a movement we are trying to finish this year off strong as a group Y'all so we are on day nine and we're working on this five to thrive if you're in it you know what it is if you don't know go over to the Holocaust dot com forward slash last nine zero days it's a totally free completely free challenge we're just trying to finish the year as strong as we possibly can you can join at anytime we a who were excited about things that are happening and this week we have a theme each week we're going to have a theme this week our theme is habits and so i WanNa talk to you about habits I've talked about a book that I love on habits I love it so much Charles Duke wrote the book called Power of habit I use some quotes from his book in my book I am excited I am soon I think going to be on his podcast he soon is going to be on our podcast he is a smart dude on all things habits if you have not read power of habit when people ask me Dave what's the what's the I book what's the first book that you read if you were trying to start your personal development journey what's the first book if I'm in a relationship with someone who doesn't really I think they are into growing the first book that I would read is power of habit the second book that I read is Mindset by Carol Black the first two books that I would read there is another book on habits that I spent a little time reading through this week as we're talking about habits that we have read previously that I will dry your attention to it's like the masters course of habit work a little bit thicker a book it's a little more scientific books it's the seven habits of highly effective people by Steven Covey and it is there are get says seven things that if you were to just like master these seven things you would be a more effective person it's taken from years and years years of research on what effective people have done and there are the first two habits that I think would be useful use of our time today to just spend a second on so that if you don't end up reading the book for whatever reason you might at least understand I believe to be two things that are particularly relevant for us as we are walking through day nine op challenge that we are hoping to finish strong as we start the first habit that Stephen Covey talks about in his book is the idea of being proactive being Proactiv there are two kinds of people in this in this world in on the planet there are people who are reactive and there are people who are proactive. live so reactive people tend to focus the way that it's described in the book there are two circles there is the Sir of concern that's the bigger circle out here these are the things that we cannot control and there is the circle of influence inside of that The things that we can control K. reactive people tend to spend their time focusing on the circle of concern the bigger of the circles and the things that happened in that circle are things like other people's opinions things like other people's mistakes things like the weather things like the economy things like politics but also things like what people think you okay so that bigger circle the circle of concern those are things that you as a human being listening to this cast right now as a human being listened to this livestream right now you cannot control you think somewhere in your brain you're thinking focusing on these things or worrying about these things or doing something about these things will change the amount of control you have of these things but you cannot control those things okay so that first circle circle concern those are things you can control the circle of influence that circle inside that circle is the stuff that you can Dan Control so that is your habits that is your attitude that is the things that you can learn that is the enthusiasm you bring to something that is the education that you acquire those are the things that you can control okay and the important thing in the difference meaning reactive person and a proactive person is that life shows up for both of these people in the same way right hard days come good days come things that are easy to achieve things are challenging to achieve life comes at these people the same way defrost life differently though the reactive person focuses on the things that they cannot control and complains about those things as if that's going to help them in any way in their life they tend to focus on their environment or outside purses and those focuses on the external the environment are outside forces affect their mood affect their performance right when you give all of your power to the things that you cannot control you are now out of control and are at the mercy of now your environment or those outside forces make you feel that is reactive that is reactive don't take they don't take action they don't take ownership of the things that they can control and that's the difference in the person that focuses as a more the person on that inner circle the circle of influence they focus exclusively or try their best to focus exclusively on the things that they can control go into a situation knowing that there are so many things that they can't control but they can't control they wait the way they react to the they can't control that just that in what we are trying to accomplish today and for the next eighty one days we'll be a game changer there will be every single day of the rest of this challenge things that you can't control and the sooner you can except that you can't control the things but can control the way that you react to things the more likely you are to be successful in this challenge here's an example you're at work you go to work you put on your work shirt you get to work you do a project at work the project fails the reactive person will give you every reason why the project were they didn't get great direction from their boss they didn't have great support from their team the economy showed up and disrupted the way they could sell their product all of the journal things that by the way we're outside of their control they will blame for why the project at work didn't actually work the proactive person asks a different set of questions this didn't work how could it have been done better how could I have a approached the situation of having a boss that doesn't give great direction how could I have approached having a team that doesn't have the competency to do the work well how could I have I prepared myself differently for the way that the economy was gonNA make selling my product harder they're reacting in say that is proactive and not reactive right you are walking through a challenge right now where that example object fails at work is going to happen this weekend for you in this challenge it's going to be
