Apple Warns of An "Imperfect Fit"

"We're gonna kick it off with some apple news as we usually do and this one is was a bit of a concern for people around ipad pro and the new i. Pepperoni twelve point nine inch ipad pro because that ipad pro is a little bit ever so slightly fatter than the previous version just the tiniest doodo raca and the reason being is because it's a new display technology. So he got you know. They've got a fancy display in a twelve point. Nine this by the way does not affect the eleven edge. So they're goofing around. Led's as you know and trying to improve the display bisness fatness consequences when people start to stress out because apple said that the previous generation keyboard case. They call it. The magic keyboard was not going to work with the new ipad. appropriate said spent whatever i spent. I don't know three hundred bucks or whatever. It was for the magic keyboard. And i gotta get another one of those two. I'm showing four forty nine in canada. It's probably three forty nine in the us on the keyboard case where twelve point nine so people. Listen i say saying. Get the new to appoint ninety then. I gotta get the new keyboard as well. That was a kind of the line after the event. So it's going to be a big expenditure you're gonna be to jesus into this thing By time is said and done. You may have been hoping you're gonna anyway. We have new news here that there are a few articles written on it and it was your usual planned obsolescence conversation. It was your usual here. We go again as far as apple's concern here we go here. We don't channel but it turns out apples. I guess they're they're trying to alleviate some of your stress by saying oh you know what we know. These products aren't out there yet. But you can still use it.

Dollywood with Amber Davis

"Impossible to talk about dollywood without mentioning dolly parton then in are both big fans. She is a prolific songwriter. I think a lot of people would be shocked to know all the songs that she's written for other entertainers on her own. She sold more than one hundred million albums worldwide. We could honestly do a show several podcasts. Just don't hurt. She butts alone. She's amazing businesswoman and humanitarian her literacy program. Which all three of my kids have taken advantage of dali pardons imagination library which is a part of the dollywood foundation males one book per month to each and roll child from the time of their birth until they enter kindergarten. Currently over sixteen hundred. Local communities provide the imagination library to almost eight hundred fifty thousand children each live across the us canada uk. Australia and ireland. It's amazing she also helped to find one of the covid nineteen vaccines so i mean i could go on and on about dali yes. We absolutely could. Let's bring it back to the theme park. Dollywood was opened in one thousand nine hundred eighty six and one of the really interesting things about this. Is that for all its growth and offering of thrill rides. The park still retains a lot of history in roots. The park now known as dollywood has gone by several other names throughout the years and it still pays homage to the older parts. There are four years in the modern park river town junction. The village country fair in craftsman. Bali dollywood offers a fully functional. Gristmill where you can get incredible cinnamon bread and rolls and a fully functional chapel. That was actually named after the doctor. That delivered dolly truly. This is a part where you can ride some incredible thrill rides and get a glimpse back in time. So talk more about dollywood with us. We welcome amber. Davis publicist for dollywood amber. Welcome to the show. Thanks so much for having me and we really appreciate you coming on chatting with us. So robin our both. We're going to confess it. Where such huge fans of dolly. So can you talk about what her influence in the park. Looks like it could be major things or just simple touch here and there. Just give us a break. Yeah absolutely. I mean who doesn't love dali if you know anything else are dolly. We claim. She has a national treasure every believes she's just about as genuine as they come. We do see dolly from time to time so it's neat that the park not only bears her name. But there's there's things around that just remind you of who she is and what she means to a community here and at large but start dollywood really was her vision and so it's her. Her name is on it. She has the managing partners who know the theme. Park world but dolly. She really started this park to bring more people to the area to create jobs. And she's done both of those things so just the very welcoming nature of the park in a. We've were proud. Always tell people. Were the friendliest park. We won that award so many times that they actually retired at so now have the best park experience award from the golden ticket amusement today awards dolly wants us to be welcoming into you. See that and just the. The charm of the park itself are host week. We actually call our employees hosts because people who come our guest and so everyone who works there were hosting you so it again. In the culture in the nature of of who we are dollywood. You're going to see There's there's actually if you want to come for the dalai factor. You're gonna find dolly. There's a whole museums. Actually a fantastic museum chasing rainbows. It has things one of the things. We like to joke about dolly. Never throw anything away whether it's warehouse in nashville or if it's at dollywood we've got our hands on just really neat things. I mean her birth certificate and a replica of the coat of many colors. Actually it's a replica. Because you know. Intrigue fashion was continued to be handed down so that code is is longtime because it was down the many more kids after dolly but Her mom made another one for on us to put on display. So you're gonna see the coat of many colors. You're going to see movies threats and costumes from her movies. You're going to see you know dresses. Steve warranty to award ceremonies. You're going to see her awards museums. Fantastic there's also a replica of her. We like to call it the tennessee mountain home. So if you don't know dolly was one of or is one of twelve children so she grew in a very small home and so we need to put that in the context of walking through this house credible. You're like how limped year. The beginnings replica of the home. In what i mean by replicated. Her brother built it. Her mother decorated it. So it's not the home. She grew up in. But it is true to representations of of dali's. You're gonna say you know things like that in the park. There's there's there's smaller things like a popular. Eatery is drive in will read is actually a nod to the very first place. Dolly parton had a hamburger so easter eggs. You know the pines theater another location. That people don't know but that's where she had her first concert. So there's lots of things throughout the park that it's not in your face dali if you want that there are different areas. Not the whole. It's not all dolly all the time. So there's there's a lot but you have to kind of know where you're looking. Yeah i remember go into dollywood way back might have been the early nineties and then just recently. My daughter's chorale group went for to sing at dollywood. And i was shocked at all of the roller coasters. I mean there are rides galore. Can you talk a little bit. About what kinds of rides and attractions are dollywood. Mentioned some of it but talk about more than rides and stuff. Yeah you know. A lot of people don't realize that jolly win actually is a fantastic coaster park. You know a lot of people Thinking oh it's it's probably small little entertainment park actually does quite a few of the the big name coasters that the coaster enthusiasts talking about so yet we have our parking one hundred sixty acres. And we've got eight bay coasters so we've got lightning rod which you know we love and we're very proud to to reintroduce this year. I had lots of work in the off. Season practically brand new track thunderhead. That's a wooden coaster while eagle was the first wing coaster in the state So we liked to go. After unique rides we have fire chaser. Express which is a considered a family coaster. The reason is considered family is because it has a very low height requirements. Thirty nine inches. My actually two little boys and both of them were writing. Fire taser express when they were three. So you know on a coaster is kinda crazy but it's a fun unique ride. It launched as you out of the station forward but then by the time you're ending the ride you get launched backward. So that's it's a dual launch coaster. So that's a lot of fun so we we look for a lot of the The rides that are unique or that offer something that people haven't experienced

Paperbark Maple: The Perfect Tree For Small Spots

"I found a plant. That i've known for a long time. I know younger ones of it. But i was. I was in a different situation last weekend. And i came across a more mature paperbark. Maple now i i. I have a client friend who has one that somebody teen feet. This one would be twenty twenty two feet now. That last four feet is not just in i. it's in width. Also paperbark maple is well named it has Bark like sycamore in the sense of peeling off. it's different colors as such and it's it's a bi colored plant even without considering the leaves. The leaf is a try type leaf for little little center stem and three leaflets. On each the twigs then are a well. I don't know dark. Brown glossy Anywhere for the first two possibly three years. then they start to what's called exploit. The bark literally peels off and within the fourth and fifth year. The the pretty brown is on out on the newer tips and it's then just simply shedding its outer skin and as it sheds at outer skin it makes it attractive darn near all year round. I i walked around the corner on a fairly sizable building. And the guy said. That's that that is a paperwork maple. He's how'd you know from from sixty feet. I could tell because the bark. I said then i have to look at the buds just to be sure but Quite a remarkable treat twenty to thirty feet it makes a wonderful vents small tree for smaller properties and so on and then of course interesting in its exfoliating season as well as a light shade now. Maples says the the norway maple in particular is known to kill lawns. it has a tremendous amount of routes. They're fairly close to the surface and they they will cause the area around them to be barren of grass anyhow Quite easily this tree. As i have seen them in the past and it fair sites and the one i'm talking about seeing the date has oh i don't know eight and a half nine inch trunk diameter at about twenty two feet or so so it's it is not even starting to kill the grass wonderful small trie for small lawns. And you're always talking about looking for ways to have a four season plant. Absolutely is a four season planet is now the the fall color is not the very greatest hits. It's an orangey. it's attractive enough by all means but it's not like a sugar maple that flames or looks like flame in the forest. But it's still very very pretty and then it has nice looking structure and then the the papery bark is from the ground right on up through the top except for the first two years of the foliage or of of the bark on the twigs. And that's that cinnamon dark brown Just absolutely an attractive tree for small spots.

"Starting with the Friday weather, which at least is warming up a little bit, Steve? Yeah, it looks like we might hit 30 today and 26 for low overnight So no more single digits and teens and windshield seem to be under control as well this morning. But the big story is going to be the snow. The National Weather Service is just put out a note this morning, suggesting that of wide swath of the Chicago area will see six plus inches of snow. From this storm. That sort of goes along with the in house models that we have in our weather center that show maybe 78 maybe even nine inches in some places from the storm that starts tomorrow afternoon and continues through Sunday afternoon. A Winter storm watch already posted starting tomorrow.

Pilot Holiday Gift Ideas: The iPad

"Why don't we. Why don't we start at the top end of the price range and and i say that You know we we. I'm looking at my list here. And i have about ten things on here and Probably the most expensive thing and probably in my opinion The the most useful thing that we have on on the list here is an ipad You know we talked about paper vs plastic on previous podcast on whether The the way to go as paper charts or plastic chair or or electronic flight bag if you will and Obviously we go with the f. b. Which is that's that's that's the wave of the future Pad is necessary so there are lots of different options with ipads memory size Cellular cellular versus non cellular. And what i will say about. That is If you are looking to purchase an ipad you definitely want to buy one with cellular capability and the reason is an ipad with cellular capability has a gps chip built into it and That way as you're using your ipad In the airplane you'll have your position your position will always be displayed now. You you don't have to activate the The cellular service on the ipad. So you're not. You're not having to pay a monthly subscription to that but you definitely want to buy an ipad. That has the cellular capability. And it's usually another hundred and thirty dollars extra for that particular ipad in so i think i was confused even early on. I'm kind of tech guy the the value of that additional chip you really instead of buying a third party external card that would provide that. Gps information you're getting that built into the ipad. So if i don't have a gps source by chance than the ipad will give it to me and you don't ever have to turn on the sailor services what you're saying correct that's exactly right. And and the occasional time where you might be at an airport that's may be out in the middle of nowhere and you don't have wifi capability You can very simply Get cellular service. You're going to pay for it. You're going to have to put a credit card in it. You may have to commit to twenty dollars for a given month but it's always nice to have that backup. I do activate the cellular service on my ipad And I i don't use it a whole lot because most of the time i am on wi fi but there are where you're out Somewhere and you don't have wifi available and you you'll want to file a flight plan or or or or or whatever Check the weather. It is nice to have that ability. But again you don't have to activate it so you don't have to pay the monthly fee. And as i'm sure varies by carrier. But i think mine's ten dollars device so if you turn it on its ten dollars you can turn it on and off pretty frequently if you wanna twos. Well you're just going to be hit with that ten dollar so maybe you don't fly much in the winter turn it off. Turn it on the summertime It's great so let's talk about size and size so screen size and memory size probably a personal preference thing. I wish the there was almost something in between the mini and the the eleven incher. Right eleven inches. Just a little too big for the board pad for me. Kinda thing the minis great. I have an old mini. It's time to upgrade my new to the newer mini for sure Because it's running slow. But i like many in the cockpit and i carry my larger ipad. My fly bag is a backup Any thoughts or suggestions there. Yeah i i it it's definitely personal preference though. The one thing that i do like about them many is It is it does mount easily on the oak In in our one seventy two it fits right between the two Handles actually and it fits really nice on the yoke I'm not a mount it type person. I usually just keep the ipad in my lap. I've i've never really used kneeboard. I most of the applicants that i gave check rides to use knee boards and they use them very effectively. It's it's just something that Forty years ago. When i was learning to fly it just wasn't a part of the The norm for people using the board so It's just something. I never really adapted to but my i have the eleven inch. Ipad pro I think the super-duper ipad the twelve point nine inch or whatever it is. I think it's just a little bit too too big too bulky I said i kind of wish. There was one between the mini and the eleven inch because maybe about an I don't know a tween ipad with would be would be nice You know. I i do find that. The older people like the bigger ones. The younger people liked the smaller ones. And that probably has something to do with the vision but You know are obviously able to pinch out to make make the the things bigger I would say the with. The ipad mini To me reading text Isn't as as you know. I don't like it near as much As i do in my eleven inch ipad so it is a personal preference and just keep in mind I think most people are not going to buy an ipad and and dedicated strictly to aviation. You're going to use it for other things. You're gonna find all kinds of other uses for it if you don't have an ipad already but It's a great device And as far as the other size. It's you know the the memory. How much memory you have on your ipad is is Is something to look at. And of course the more memory the more expensive so there are economics involved in this

China Economy Grows 4.9% as Rest of World Struggles With Coronavirus

"It's economy grew 4.9% in the latest quarter. It may be the on ly major economy to expand this year, having recovered from the pandemic while the rest of the world deals with continued lockdowns. NPR's Emily Thing has been looking into what China's economic recovery means for the rest of the world. On a recent October afternoon visit Finova's assembly lines in southern Georgia on problems, various machine presses and quality control machines clack away that kind of sounds like a nine inch Nails song. That's Jen Ambrose, one of the engineers Finova, which makes rare earth magnets, the sort that go into the sensors for your car or help operate your iPhone. Finova, like the rest of China is backto work, Construction, manufacturing and automobiles are all booming. And that's good business for the Nova, which mostly cells to North American car plants. Here's Vice President Chirac. There goes me with short hair. You mean elimination time consumer demand is down. But because of the uncertainty about whether there might be a second wave, our clients in North America been stocking up on our components. Back in February, sweetie, it got production going in the middle of China's outbreak. He had to negotiate with dozens of villages to let his workers that have locked down and come back to work. Pressure to keep supplying his multinational clients was huge. You know, it was like a war, our director told us in critical times. If you cannot hold up your end, I'll just find someone else to replace you. Extensive testing and contact tracing have restarted China's economy despite smaller ensuing outbreaks, and so, economists estimate China's yearly GDP growth could be north of 2.5% this year, even as the rest of the world's economy will shrink by at least 4%. Differential will give Chinese companies more market share in greater economic influence from what global steel production dropped. So China share of production can only rise I estimate this year, China will be at 60% of global steel production. This's leasing Trump, the president of a state industry group in June and July, Only China was buying steel because our automobile and construction sectors quickly recovered and because China's economy is recovered earlier in Faster than that of others, including the U. S economy, Its trade surplus this year will widen even more. Michael Herson, China lead at consultancy Eurasia Group says that will exacerbate long running accusations China benefits more from the global economic order the fact that China is back up and running smoothly and in fact, some evidence against that China's actually grabbing market share in export industries will be a cause of concern for US policymakers in particular. Last year, a trade war in a difficult operating environment led some American businesses in China to consider moving some of their supply chains out. But this year, the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai's latest survey found more than 78% of respondents. Has no plans to move operations. What you're seeing now is basically China's stability premium kicking back in in the sense that COS. Now are dealing with a global pandemic and many of the places that they would move production to aren't looking So Rosie right now, China's economic recovery does have its weaknesses. Here's hallway and economics analyst at Beijing. Research from Gavin Cal Dragon Onyx overall is deal on investment from a story and where will have seen what's left behind is mainly the consumption especially for the working people related consumption, meaning there's been growth because China is building bigger factories and warehouses and making more cars. Consumer demand has been weaker. And unlike many countries, including the U. S. China has not given cash payments to its lowest income wage earners, many of whom have not been able to find work after the pandemic That could further throw supply and demand out of sync because the quality will widen again and will weigh down the consumption growth. But for now, China is doing all right. Question is how long it can keep it up. Emily Fang NPR News Joe down China

"Your email will be kept confidential and will not be used spam unless we can make some money selling it. Wow that's a really powerful stuff. I mean yeah And then you've got to the core of it you know it's it's definitely a You know something you couldn't do today in today's music scene But it was definitely. It was groundbreaking For the time really ahead of its time and I think the same could be said of the entire record it was. It was a real switch up from form for Trent. It was him dabbling in places. That perhaps he didn't belong but he made space. Yeah definitely and I mean yeah we we. We're not GONNA be able to do a full episode on this But I mean frankly I I wouldn't be able to do it. Theoretical analysis of this. It's it's above my pay grade. It's a a lot of what's going on. Here is just so complex from from theory standpoint. That really leaves me sitting here. Dick and hand scratching my head. I I. I heard a rumor that I'm GonNa now that Queen Guitarist. Brian May who is an actual legitimate astrophysicist? Scientists like he went and got his old degrees. I there's no joke there. He tried to analyze this once and it did. Talk almost went insane. Yeah yeah he got. He got a nosebleed right. Yeah Yeah it was he. He said it was worse than than dark side of the moon when he went full. He he he almost went full dark side. Damn so but I am. So it's it's a. It's a powerful album on many levels Almost dangerously so. Yeah Yeah I can only listen to this One time through if I get into the second track on a second. Listen in one sitting My bowels actually become running Yeah I mean Dan. It's it's it's it's something else. Yeah Yeah it's it's. It's quite a thing. Well Tyler I have Gresham for your or do. Are there any non nine inch nails releases? Walter you've been listening to lately. I WANNA keep it to the theme In this this is something we'd never. I'd never really done we usually when we pick these saw. The you know Ah What we're listening to. We try and stave kind of far away from Knin. But I I cannot not recommend go fights cover a pussy grinder and it is the good a full ammunition artillery mix and It's I'm GonNa go ahead and just step in and say that that's your pick to like that's how good this is and you know it's funny. It's like you're reading my mind Yeah it's I think one of the most illuminating covers have been insulting ever anything. It's just because there was so much to work with. Yeah so You know we're we're both picking it you do. Go listen to it twice Matter of fact I think fuck plate now all right so.

"Album from bind snails. That is it's out of the regular. You know the halo the standard Halos But it's still a very important album for its time and we wanted to address it. It is two thousand nine strobe light and I want to jump right in here by saying this may be transparent album. Oh Yeah You know this isn't one that's kind of you know some fans say that there's a that there's a concept through the whole thing I stand by the that there is no concept whatsoever that the songs are not connected in any way. It's really a big departure from trends normal work or you know usual body of work. I I'm I'M GONNA go ahead and pointedly disagree with you. I've always been under the assumption that they're running. Narrative through line was actually written from the perspective of one Mr Kanye West tracing his life and his inevitable descent into Kardashian madness interesting I mean I I mean just looking at the titles you could you know you know. I guess you could see that where you know they start You know there's the the second track everybody's doing it by Chris. Martin Jay Z and Bono. Where maybe he's kind of getting. Oh everyone's doing the Kardashians like they're so popular And then the re this rhythm is infected. You know maybe it's starting to infection starting to seep in Yeah and then slide to the dark side You know these. Yeah Yeah Then you know. The next eighth track Even closer with Justin Timberlake and James Maynard Keenan Maynard. James Keenan of me will yes. That's it if I'd say his name correctly that isn't inspired pairing. If ever I've heard one. Oh Yeah it's a beautiful track it's You know as a it's not like I said it's not a big You know it's not an album that I'm really key motion connected to but there are a few songs like even closer that just you know. They're just amazing. Some of the best things that Trevor Dunn Um Yeah I I think this this is honestly in a in a very hidden away. Some of his most cerebral work. is the. It's deeply challenging from from a content level. There's there's there's a I don't feel like the tongue in cheek here. This is This is art in its purest form. This is the definition of art. Yes yeah Especially clap traps cracked slab or KLEPTOCRATS. Laugh is amazing. Did the did the deeper messages about the effects of Reaganomics in that one are really just it. Impossible to miss but impossible not to feel Yeah I it it I tear up I am GONNA. I'm GONNA say it. I'm thirty one year old man and I tear up when I hear that. Yeah when that Song plays I I pour one out from my dad. And he's he's still alive. Still poor one out surprenant Do you have a favorite track on here I think my favorite I mean. Obviously the one that got most airplay is pussy grinder with Sheryl Crow but I think my favorite is probably feels like being dead again You know there's certain internal Tim. Burton esque parts of my soul. That that really speaks to Yeah I mean obviously pussy grinder with Derrick Rose. The the big single that everybody knows And that's a great song but I mean my just every time I hear triscuit. It just it ties it you know. I. Don't you know? I said that it wasn't right concept but it just ties the album together at the end. Yeah maybe maybe not from a narrative standpoint but definitely It you know I in sort of a spiritual way. Yeah it brings a tremendous amount of finality. It's It's definitely a period rather than ellipses. Yeah so Brian did you want to read the the press release that I came out with the album. Yeah Yeah so At at the time of the release this text was on the On the website really Selling it very well..

"Album packaging websites thumb drives distributed at live performances and real world meetings to hide clues to find the next bit of the story and board the line between the real world and the world of years zero the album's content it was a direct response to what resonated was seeing in the world two thousand six corrupt religious groups greedy politicians and a pacified population he said what's it about well. It takes place fifteen years in the future. Things are not good if you imagine a world where greed and power continued to run their likely course you'll have an idea of the backdrop drop the world has reached the breaking point politically spiritually and ecologically written from various perspectives of the people in the World Years Zero examines various viewpoints set against instant pending moment of truth. This record is more of a sound collage than recent efforts from me. A lot of it was improvised. It's not just music probably probably too long but it felt like the right thing to do was to paint the complete picture it will sound different after a few listens you can think about it and it will reveal more to you than you. Were expecting expecting you can dance to a lot of it. You can fuck to a lot of it. Maybe all of it depending on what you're into the writing process began while on tour promoting with tea and Rittner wanting to try something he had not done before for the first time in my life I wanted to break away from the idea of opening up my journal and transferring that into song lyrics and I really thought about what was at the forefront of my concern and the state that I'm at right now at the age that I'm at just the state of being an American citizen a lot of concern. I have about the direction the country's headed in and kind of the erosion of freedoms that seems like we're experiencing and the way we treat the world and our own citizens felt like something I needed to comment comment on music was written and recorded in hotel rooms and the back of tour buses. These locations restricted the tools that dresner could draw from prisoner said that I didn't have guitars around because it was too much of a hassle. It was another creative limitation. If I was in my studio I would have done things away. I normally do them but not having the ability to do that. That forced me into trying some things that were fun to afford to release prisoner called year zero shift in direction in that it doesn't sound like with teeth. He also said that when he finishes a new album he has to go to battle with the people whose job it is to figure out how to sell the record. The only time.

"And in verse to you might notice says talking and laughing and what not actually from a tv songs structure was meant to be a rhythmic jigsaw puzzle in the verse that leads to the feeling of release when he got to the chorus when choosing sound sir instrumentation or what tampers vilnius we are thinking about if there's something that feels electron occur unfamiliar to juxtaposed something that feels acoustic then sonic lee familiar to avoid everything sounding like science fiction and then that led to nick whose to piano would anchor in would have the kind of firmness the kind of foundation that could hold the chorus together feels like okay i can x hail for second but doesn't sound triumph that because you've given up the fight so i've been resisting resisting resist syria k on amid a dive in going to say if this is where i am this is where i am to me when i listened to aids i feel connected emotionally to this story and huge plant fate is the halley's delivered to the courts may two getting it twice in the second term was the best one than than we didn't go back in and say okay me microbes tune that note leave it the way it is those him saying it's primarily chant might failings to kill but this course is excellent and not to be discarded for his voice cracked two whatever that a lot of what i get from music is that humanity is the imperfections is the the sole feeling.

"By the way piling everyone seems to be as swiftly put me with these little tricks it was me alone myself permission to examine periods of my life that i had consciously chose not to think about very much in immerse myself in it in a kind of would if the path i am currently on wasn't really the right one and i just went hard left the other way would have my true nature is being denied deals could have dangerous to think about that but i dared to allow myself to kinda deep dive into what that might be like the place where i already all my spanish processed out myself the difficult part of the song was trying to place the verse vogel once the right approach be recorded a couple of times trying to find the right process in love that was to deal with deliveries while where the emphasis is pegged at me hit record i'm gonna just talk which feels kind of natural drop it in and see how it sits over the music part of it is considering what the role of the verse vogel is in terms of the narrative of story you know it was written in a cut up style that wasn't necessarily linear sell wasn't store you had to listen to every bet what if we kinda made it overheard back many of the stop by thorne driving jewell listen to this there but it's not in the way and if you don't want to eat can ignore it like it's a tv set left on while you're doing something else.

"Again the half being in studio in creating was torturous highpressure selfimposed in the work my heart is but it i don't enjoy the act of doing it a few years later the fragile now i'm in the throes of addiction and membranes not working in his best and i'm scared so that record took forever was two and a half years working on an album because of fear i wasn't embracing the process of creating those trying to get through it the pivot for me to play so getting clean which is when i met atticus then i was scared if i could do it sober no because it's not i didn't know and you told yourself enough you'd validated terrible behavior by all i need i'm an artist you know and that's what these guys did in the kind of bullshit but uh you know to my amazement that's women feel like a common came into my own and like i could embraced the process of doing 'cause i was present in me ended up having fun in studio so back to this tracked lovers mm trip we use a bit is having monophyletic sequencers that don't loop in time so it's and fear four rather than having a sixteen sip sequencer have it ten steps it's the same pattern but it's starting at a different spot which makes it sound completely different as it sits over that drum lip it adds complexity that still feels musical and also like to wit rhythmically anchored that drum loop into something it just felt like a good foundation of it could sustain for a while with the vogel brief asthma all laughed.

"That was meant to be kind of serpentine blake just going to play an purposely kind of not having any of four borrowed eight bar thing that was played single line a number of times i was trying to remember what i'd done the time before but not intensely delayed stand that no for three hits or two and may not explaining him atticus my intention to see what happen then when i came back in the room after he'd ranging aegis left him sit on top of each other so they got off because i wasn't playing the same way ooh but it's on a cool the rate cut a dreamlike hallucinatory feel like someone slowly spun me around in a much sure where where i am ooh and didn't sound overly dissonant on one and the whole song to feel seductive but uneasily seductive i'd love to take credit for them to denounce just his arrangements pulled out on there is a tactile kind have the humanity has been left and and i feel that it is an expiration of humanity in one way or another i think some people think payroll meticulous in studio we're not really win inspiration hits and you get that thing that feels exciting let's as fast as we can see where that leads until goes away now this plenty of time to bring out the it sucks hammer widow must not over think things at the beginning of a creative flow did you have a different process back before you to start working heather was different when you are on your own we've been doing this so long now that this feels like it always has been this way but both free hey machinery is a lack of understanding how to make a record and that came with its own set of inexperience and intimidation and broken was kind of the same way downward spiral there was a lot of fear involved because on meter record the people liked and will i ever be able to do that.

"That drunk that is his snippet of the illuminates scouten way the we've up goal engaged informed the key of the song he's than cut together school poli rhythmic drum loop the rhythm generated by hitting that saying an arranged in a way that is much better than it was when i walked out of the room the different mindsets different hats one as to where in this environment one of them is the kind of subconscious follow the media's eyes closed another one that's radically different is the editorial what socked what was good what's the piece that fits with that i love having him do that part because i can stay in the other mode of not trying to analyse exactly what's going on and still stay subconscious in a way it keeps this momentum going that neither of us are bogged down too much in aren't skill sets complement each other so it's him arranging stuff i just couldn't bang into things the next thing that happened was tuning kicked drum to knell sit with that just a anchor it that was what got us sane all right that's the foundation of one part of the track cleanup's can the verse sell at see where that leads us so the rhythmic loop led to the tune kick from which felt like a base how 'bout an imprecise unsure guitar that feels a little exploratory in a little apprehensive who and just kind of did a circular sending descending line of guitars around it.

"There's manufactured in full attack it makes these weird little boxes that do variety of things but one that we liked is uh illuminate scott it's like a cigar box with the mental played on the top with some thick guitar strings kind of sticking out to to clarify if you can tell from their description the luminous garden is not a traditional musical instrument i thought a national studio before we started recording the interview and i didn't really know what i was looking at there aren't any notes to be played on it it's more of a conceptual sound manipulator i'll put a link on the song litter website so you can see what it looks like the censure what happens is by tapping on that metal tall that gets picked up by mike which feeds through a delay in a river absurd written that can create a loop with credit thought let's make it sound like fingers tapping on a table nervous something that adds an anxiety i'm in the throes of addiction so we were doing things like dropping keys and pencils and hitting it with a hammer banging the table rule hard that it sitting on did you see what comes out in trying to make a kind of accidental capturing this little bits we'll be recording the output of that in protocols what atticus will do then is cut together two or three loops i'll usually leave for the twenty minutes a takes for that process to happen thoughts on its a and come in and suddenly there of weird tone happening.

"In the summer and nothing now not wanting to do something but unable to stop myself so that was where the lyrics to place and that would end up being the verses a slipped out of time again leaving all of you behind i i free through turn to the place where i already in a volleys dan if i just really looked allowed myself of these words the verse which was the denial phase in the chorus was going to be the release and succumbing to whatever it is a blueprint of the shape of the song but i had no idea was gonna sound like i am it is who else where we originally started with bring to life a score for this thing that's out of trends head we know really well in were close friends which is the foundation of our musical relationship with that kind of familiarity i can say hey here's these words that might be terrible and i think it's about this i can share that with him with medium amount of skin on fire feeling now now that i couldn't do assimilated know that while i had the lyric sheet which i would look at and study and then we start to piece together what might be the best tool kit to bring this to life reaction to talk about it a here's the setting of the saw sometimes a literal place or visual revived that we could both have our own versions of what that is visually in our heads and it helps us choose arrangement choose what type of instruments how can we achieve that how can we score that scene of recreate the vocabulary of sound that would be right for that because what we've learned a long time ago was too many options lead to paralysis so it needed that setting and i know it that feeling is of being sucked into something in that environment the me instinctively can reach for things that we may not have reached out if we hadn't talked about in this case he was saying was tread luminous garden and said that up.
