"That let me bring the rest of the crew back in here for that and so interesting to see a guy like sabin who do have okay. We have jeff. Saturday and kimberly more. And you know if you look at a guy like that. It's a championship kind of warning right. We've had to cha well. We've had more than two but two of the champions that have been declared this year. We have alabama winning the championship back in january. Milwaukee doing it last night. A champion yourself. Jeff how would you put into words. What what jaanus. And that crew are experiencing as they wake up this morning absolutely remarkable. I mean listen. What janas did you play in your best. The biggest moment. it just doesn't happen that often. I mean what a special moment for him to literally put the team on his back and carry them to victory the way he did and you seem with the trophies. You see the joy. I think my favorite part about him is. He thanked everybody. I mean he talked about listening. I couldn't have gotten here by myself. Thank his family. His friends is coach. Is like he gets it right. He's one of those guys who understands. This isn't just me getting us here. This is all the people who have sacrificed his mom who he said. Continuously work to keep him playing and being able to. You know to to chase his dream. That's the part that i love. So much right as he understands in context how big this is not just about this one championship but that everybody around him gets to celebrate. I absolutely love agreeing. and kimberly. While the sport that you cover primarily is football no one knows a story or how to capture it better than you do. And the story of jaanus. This kid from athens greece coming here. And doing this in milwaukee. It's a remarkable story. One hundred percent greenie as the daughter of immigrants the way he talked about his upbringing. That resonated with me cheaply when you see these struggles that the obstacles that your parents go through to to put you in a better situation. There's nothing sweeter than that and that picture of him crying on the bench that broke me because that was beautiful. One time his mother was selling things street. that's how he described it now. He's an nba champion on top of the world congratulations. Nobody thinks we're getting up with us. And this conversation continues. I take their next on. Espn hey this is bomani jones. What's your favorite podcast. Let me tell you why that'll be number two after you listen to three times a week. I'm going to challenge you to keep up with me as i discuss. "Gatorade is there to help you. Fuel it because greatness starts with g hyping. Your champions called the bucks. Tom brady and the tampa. Bay buccaneers for at the white house yesterday. Tb twelve dropped. Some jokes on the president. Listen not a lot of people think that we could have won. In fact i think about forty percent of people still. Don't think we won. I understand that. Mr president had a game in chicago where i forgot would down. It was a lost track of one down in twenty one years of playing and they started calling me sleep. Tom would they do that to me. All right so that was brady yesterday. Which was very interesting. And it's just it's funny. I let me just ask that question very quickly. Why what's face kimberly. Is he funny or not. Is twenty twenty one. Tom brady funny. of course he's funny. This is literally greedy. We have been waiting to see for twenty one years and soak it up greenie. There's no question about it. This is funny do you think. Do you think tom brady is genuinely funny. He's funny but he's also rates right he also sometimes when when you've got a little bit of money a little bit of success jokes talk a little bit funnier right. Got all those rings jokes. A little bit funnier. Everything's not everything he's been saying. A tweeting is hilarious. Right i get it. But i'm like man with all that success. Right look what. He's married to little money in the pocket. You might have some people right now. These jokes tweets forum. You never know though. Chris rock famously. Said money will turn a bald spot into a part. That's how that goes but let me let me cut jeff saturday right down to the quick. Who's funnier tom. Brady your buddy peyton manning. Oh main komo komo liz. You've seen him on saturday night live. He crushes them. Go against my boy. Come on man. And i was. I was cheating the answer to anything with. Jeff is always peyton manning and the meantime. I much more interesting than dan. Something that brady said in an interview with jim gray. We're getting just a little bit of a glimpse this morning as to what motivates brady so remember last month with brady said that he was stunned to learn that. An unnamed other team decided to stick with its corn quarterback rather than to come after him. Tom brady he said i was thinking. You're sticking with that guy. He still won't say which team it was but he did say this to jim gray. He said there's private things for me. That are going to remain motivational. They know who they are. It's fine everyone has a choice to choose. I think what you realize. There's not as many smart people as you think. And then listen to this. He goes on to say. That's the reality. I think it'd be a no brainer if you said. Hey you've got a chance to get wayne gretzky on your team. You got a chance to have michael jordan on your team. We don't need him. no thanks. We're good. That was in an interview with jim gray and so many things about that that i find fascinating jeff. I think a lot of us have put brady in the conversation with the michael. Jordan's wayne gretzky's. I'm not sure i've ever heard him put himself in that conversation. What do you think of that jeff..

In addition to the bonuses, he'll average about 10 million over the life of the contract. Yeah. There you go. Nick Saban

"Think. I think i think we if you're here here. Goes the sec card being played. If you're in the sec and your competitive in the sec you can. You can get a national championship. And i use clemson as a as an example clemson won a national championship. I believe in nineteen eighty-one it immediately went on it. Spent many many years in the wilderness and it finally built self back through recruiting through expansion through a better facilities and ultimately and finally knocked off. Florida state florida state owned the from for almost its entire existence with a little bit of a little bit of leeway being given to miami where they went back and forth for a while and i can't remember but i think miami came in the acc. After after florida. State's reign of terror had begun I think most of miami's big big success was before the acc so it can happen and and it's certainly not impossible. That's if you're if you're competing from the mid to the top of the sec. Right now you are ultimately Going to be a national championship territory. Let's continue an Gary is up next in new jersey. Gary thanks good afternoon. High paul Thank you for having me and My my comments are about a tornado head coach saving on and i remember watching the sec program about how The owl The auburn university kids got together and all sudden. There was no animosity between. There was no rivalry. It was completely at that. Point gone is all about being people from the united states from the state alabama getting together working hard together coming together and trying to create a means to an end to help people and help people and their need. And i think you know when listening to coach and what he was talking about it was more than just football it was more than just it was about humanity and i. That's what the world right now in our country. I think we need to draw on that. I think we need to look at. That is a finer perspective and more internal perspective as a people all throughout the united states. Right now so we can come in the same fashion as the state alabama did ten years ago and if people from to bitter rivalries such as roll tide war eagle can get together and help each other and time need than we need to also can do that as as a country here in the united states. It's bigger than football. It's about us as human beings you know just so glad that you had coach on today and listen to him and And i just thank you so much for having him today to put everything in perspective in that way. Because that's what i got from the interview kyrie. Thank you very much. And i wanted to say something about that Because i distinctly remember. It was the next day or the day. It was a friday. The tornado happened on wednesday and janecek. Who was the head coach at auburn at the time. loaded Almost his entire team into buses and and they came up to community. Outside of birmingham birmingham was was hit. pratt city which is just north of birmingham was was almost wiped out and unfortunately for them they did not get a lot of attention Pleasant grove another community. That was hit very hard. And i believe chizik brought to team to pleasant grove. I may be off on that. It's been ten years but not a lot was ever made out of that. But but i will recommend for any of you young folks who are curious about this period and we're not old enough. Espn did a one hour documentary entitled roll tide war eagle that that spent about half of it was on the tornado. It was. It was a combination of the infamous. Harvey updike tumorous corner tree poisoning event. And then it was. It was merged into the tornado which which showed how the communities of college football in alabama came together. It was an extraordinary film and it and it was. It was interesting because we were interviewed. By the producers of that the the two executive producers were joe tessa tour and bruce feldman and they kept asking us. When did you know the the world had gotten normal again much like the pandemic and it was when alabama auburn fans started calling in screaming that when one day it just happened and it took a long time because the state was numb. And i know so. Many terrible things have happened since then include even in even in that state with the tornadoes a few weeks ago but this was a defining moment. And you have to remember. And i know many of you do but some you. Newcomers would made it so so terrifying. Is that there. Were there was live coverage of it. This was not a tornado. That just happened It was it was. It was forecast for two days and i remember the day before talking to our meteorology people and they said this. This could be the worst ever. I mean there was no doubt and then that morning saw a tornado came through which which may have it got people Go home you couldn't. You couldn't get down the highway in alabama in birmingham because it had been blocked so a lot of people didn't go to work that day or couldn't get to work and by the time. The tornado came and the point being as everyone was watching the coverage and listening to it. It looked as if the tornado was about to take out brian. Any stadium that's how tuscaloosa became so entwined In this in barely missed and obviously you could see it outside of the football office window. We'll take a break..

"Was headed to pro day at alabama at in a said more of them. There's a lot of talk about the wear and tear on alabama players playing fifteen games a year. And he said you know there. Is that something you'd have to take into account and it's a lot more games than others play and you know if you do that for years. She do that five years. You're kind of the body can only take so many hits and It's it's i know they'll be a lot of discussion about it and i appreciate you. Let me say what i i wanted to say. Thank you so much. Thank you very much. Let me check in next with todd. Who is in mississippi Todd thank you good afternoon. Thank you paul Ancient listener first-time caller. Thank you You're going to have a guest. You alluded to having against on just to discuss sienna else question. I may have some premature questions but Is has there been any discussion about the sec office being somewhat like a clearing house for And for accountability or anything for the schools in the conference. And my second question is do you as a as a network if y'all contemplated having to pay i l to various interviews you do on a daily basis who on I couldn't answer the the network question. And i'm not being difficult on that. I have no earthly idea. I really don't and i don't mean to you. I mean we're we're we. We work here. We don't we don't. We're not informed i understand. I'm sure that there is a big corporation. And that's the reason. I'm answering if that way because you know we there's only so much i know. My guess is the conference would have some some supervision but ultimately it's an nc double a. Call so they would be the governing body of it and they would have the final the final say. I don't think our conference could look at one way and the ncwa another so. I think i think there has to be a universal rule. Well thank you very much. Thank you very much as far as you one thing. We don't do Generally you know. I think i can speak to this as is pay for interviews that that is just not how we operate and and i don't i don't know anyone now i say i don't know anyone There's there's a. There's a whole new world developing out there where you have media companies who gain meteorites but you know just for example when someone might coach save comes on here You know they were. We were cooperative organization. And you know we can't. When i worked in in other mediums. I would i would interview someone occasionally when i worked at a newspaper and they would say well. What am i getting paid for this interview. And the answer is always the same. Nothing you know. You're doing it because you feel like it's important to to have your voice heard. And i don't know of a case now. We all have relationships. Have you know you mean the the business side of this industry do not know very much about. I read about it all the time known. There's a lot of money in it. let's get to more calls and aaron is in california aaron. Thanks good afternoon Paul how are you doing great question for you. i'm a big time longtime missouri. Fan.

"Piccolo to you on a tuesday and so much. Today we will spend a lot of time today remembering this day ten years ago april. Twenty seven two thousand eleven. Where were you. When a vicious deadly tornado came through tuscaloosa alabama. And we'll talk to someone who has forever been affected by that. Nick sabin coming up here in just a few minutes. let's get some headlines and they are positive for a change. How about a full stadium for the beginning of the college football season in charlotte georgia and clemson will take on each other at the mayo. The excuse me the mayo. Classic number one they couldn't they smash the mail trophy a couple years ago at the end of the game everybody expects a sell out and that would be a sign of the times is We are moving away from speculating on whether we'll have a football season talking about normal football season and that is straight ahead of us. Meanwhile south carolina excited about if season first season under new coach. Shane beamer and he said today that the quarterback seems like it's settling down on Young mr cody will hear more about that. A little bit later on but He's pretty much named him. The starting quarterback did you see some of the clips from yesterday. W- there is a new coach at lsu and she's a comedian in her spare time. Kim mulkey joining the party. Three time national champion doing coach imitations doing everything and look at this Gino's at the top of the heap with eleven national championships. Pat summitt of force eight in there and there is kim mulkey and tara vanderveer wanted this year with three. Nobody has won titles at multiple schools. They hired coach to do exactly that may well on capitol hill always a topic that you want to hear about on this show to members of the house of added new elements to the albemarle and that is something that we will hear more about later in the program. I mentioned at the top. Two thousand and eleven. Where were you. You may very well have been listening to this program as The tuscaloosa tornado came within a mile of our studio will remember that moment as we talked to many of you thinking back on awful time in in history but turned out to unify people in such something. We'll talk to nick sabin about coming up here in just a minute. Not mentioned coach will join us just in a few minutes about ten minutes from now. He will join us from lucia. And we'll also talk about the situation with steve burke which reported in the country for usa today and brodie miller from the athletic. He covers the tigers. And when you talk about the tigers these days there's usually a lot to talk about. We'll take your phone calls as well at eight five five two four two seven two eight five eight five two four two seven two eight five. Let's start with my friend. Ron in kentucky ron. Thank you good afternoon to you. I got that correctly. Ron you there. Thank you thank you. Ron good afternoon. Ron hey paul hey there well okay compared to a lot of people. What is your assessment of kentucky football power for this coming season. Extremely upbeat ron. I think last year was was. It was an aberration. And i think coach has been building for many years. We've we've discussed over over time. And i i'm not predicting they'll make a run at the second position but i but i think they have a chance to To make a run at florida the schedule to me is favorable. Florida and lsu in back to back weeks at home tennessee at home to game that last year. Pretty much ruined tennessee season vanderbilt. You can figure that one out for yourself. New mexico state louisville. The end of the season looks very promising. There's a chance the cats could win the final four games The tough games are obviously florida. Lsu and georgia and they're all within a three week periods a matter of surviving that three weeks and winning the games you have to win. That means a game at home against missouri in a game on the twenty eighth at south carolina. If you can take care of those. I think the cats have a chance for a really good season. I think there's a lot of optimism in this state and certainly the coach has got about building this team. And the right kind of way you know that that is. That's exactly right and that's not easy to do because unfortunately a lot of coaches have to cut corners. And i don't mean illegal things but you know getting transfers and you know. Jc juku however they have to do it but but mark stoops has done it the right way he built it from the ground up and i think that's one reason why he is going to be a kentucky for a long time. But i can't tell you. Paul and i've talked with you over the years several times right. What's your program aims to people who are partially disabled. it's kind of a lifeline. In a way run. I i wanna thank you for saying that but but i also wanna say this to you. We're not see your name on the board. I light up and i. I'm not going to ask you to discuss it. Because we discussed it in the past and i have a sense that you've been through a difficult time and we all know people that have and it means so much to all of us that that you're still able to to give us a ring and share your thoughts and and i want you to continue to be strong. Thank you so much. Thank you ron. yeah Runs got been through a very tough time known a long time for him to make that call. is quite extraordinary We appreciate it from the bottom of our heart. James is up next james. Gerrad all how you doing today james. I'm well thank you. Well good tell me. When they opened up the stadium are those people are going to be vaccinated. Or how are we going to do that. You know James s decision that we are going to make the stadiums will open and those who are vaccinated will have a certain feeling and those who aren't will believe whatever they want believe. Okay well that sounds good What do you think about this Business of expanding the numbers. Have you heard anything on that. No the numbers. Jerseys understanding is that tom brady has come out against expanding at least his position and he wants to stop at twelve. Don't you think that The numbers being what they are. Health officials recognize who who For for example if you wearing a fifty. They know that it's the center. And it's a sixty. It's a guard. And if it's in the seventies it's a tackle so if you have somebody that has something outside of those parameters and surely they won't mix in with receivers but what if we extend it to the point to where it doesn't make a difference. How are they gonna know who's supposed to be downfield. And who's not based on the girth. Good question i don't know the answer james But it's certainly something to consider okay. Well that's just. I mean we have enough issues with a alabama fans and auburn fans or anything calling in thinking that they're they're team is Under a microscope and we can't do anything that's right and the official says. well you were holding. Are you down downfield or you were clinton or that was a targeting fail i mean. Do we need anything else to Put our officials at a disadvantage james. Nick Saban Gets Direct With Reporter After Bryce Young Comment

"Let's get going with the biggest college football game of the weekend. At least in terms of the sec. And that's the alabama scrimmage and all is tomorrow are going to be on bryce young you would assume he's the man now assuming anything with nick saban. You may be where you mentioned. Bryce being the guy right now how happy are you that he going to play with the ones all right. So that's the way it's going to be. How are you that. He's been able to kind of progress the way he has. Ben and you find. He's more confident now. Well how do you know that. He's progressed away has been. What have you seen that. Be able to make that statement. First of all i mean. I'm happy with his progress. I don't want you to think that. But i just want i don't know where you sorta can just come out and make that statement but i'm happy with his progress. I think he's played well this spring. I think he showed good. Leadership is made progress. I think he understands the offense worked. Hard So you know i can make the statement because i watched them practice every day. But i don't know how much practice you saw. And and there's no truth to the rumor that the reporter is now in the witness protection program lane kiffin watching that from afar. He used to watch it from a distance. Saying this made my day the go-to always en- game day mode. Even with spring practice

Pick <Speech_Male> to thirty second. <Speech_Male> Pick to go <Speech_Male> get kyle traffic at <Speech_Male> the fifth year on his contract. <Speech_Male> Yeah that's the <Speech_Male> big piece of it. There with that <Speech_Male> quarterback get that fifth <Speech_Male> year for <Speech_Male> the team. That drafts <Speech_Male> them. I agree with that. <Speech_Male> I don't agree <Speech_Male> with which quarterback it'll <Speech_Male> be. But i do believe <Speech_Male> they will be a sixth <Speech_Male> at the end of the first <Speech_Male> round or <SpeakerChange> laskey. <Speech_Male> Gimme a bold prediction. <Speech_Male> Well i'm gonna take down around <Speech_Male> with it like a baton <Speech_Male> i'm gonna take. <Speech_Male> The <Speech_Male> steelers are going to go <Speech_Male> back into the first <Speech_Male> round draft <Speech_Male> their quarterback in the <Speech_Male> future. I'm sure <Speech_Music_Male> he's the. I'd <Speech_Music_Male> conversations with <Speech_Music_Male> fisher of <Speech_Music_Male> the talent <Speech_Music_Male> and the intellect <Speech_Music_Male> that callan montasser <Speech_Music_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> stevens taking either <Speech_Music_Male> of those guys for their future. <Speech_Music_Male> I love <Speech_Music_Male> both of those might see. <Speech_Music_Male> Let me come back to you quickly. <Speech_Male> I think this is more important <Speech_Male> than me. Getting a prediction <Speech_Male> in here the steelers <Speech_Male> pick at twenty <Speech_Male> four is twenty <Speech_Male> four too early. <Speech_Male> What dan is talking about <Speech_Male> is twenty four too <Speech_Male> early for the steelers <Speech_Male> to be taking the <Speech_Male> sixth quarterback <SpeakerChange> in <Silence> this draft. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> No absolutely <Speech_Male> not when you <Speech_Male> have a guy like monde <Speech_Male> or davis bill. <Speech_Male> So i know you like greenie. <Speech_Male> And he's there <Speech_Male> again. You're getting <Speech_Male> five years on the contract. <Speech_Male> Take <Speech_Male> the quarterback limb <Speech_Male> free year behind <Speech_Male> ben and then <Speech_Male> the rest is history. <Speech_Male> So they're still <Speech_Male> good value. Your <Speech_Male> other do at thirty to <Speech_Male> pick up an extra pick <Speech_Male> but <SpeakerChange> twenty four <Speech_Male> is perfectly fine. <Speech_Male> Yeah that's one way <Speech_Male> to look at it. You know either <Speech_Male> way depending on how <Speech_Male> you do it and and my prediction <Speech_Male> has been the same if you <Speech_Male> listen to my radio show. "It was curry's ninth straight game with thirty points or more. It's the second longest street by a player. Age thirty three or older in nba history. Only kobe bryant ever had a longer one so careers. Making an mvp case but joel embiid has something to say about that as well when you think about it right now. Do you believe you to league. Mvp you know when he comes stats He knows also been best. Thing is no one more. Can you ask and you look at the last two. Mvp same thing raonic amid those words numbers and the best record in east. You can watch that. Entire interview with stephen a. Sportscenter monday night. Seven eastern i'm fascinated by the backdrop. And i'm always fascinated to hear from the one and only jalen rose so jay. Let's start there joel embiid. Vp who's your mvp. Good morning greenie. So when i think about the mvp race a lot of it has to do with narrative and as a voter. I try to eliminate that as much as possible when i'm trying to pick who's the actual best player that season not necessarily who the best player in the league and while you were tm mea. I've thought about a couple of categories that people tend to vote towards when they vote for this award. First off guys that ms games don't become a part of this conversation. I'll call that coa list. Just think about it. He's one of the best teams in the league. The los angeles clippers. He's one of the best players in the league. he has some of the best stats in the league. However we have conversation kawada does doesn't get.

"Thinks it's going to be mack jones. It doesn't really matter for the purposes of this which one they take the moment they do. It's sort of like when you drive a car off of lock the minute you buy it. Its value decreases. Exponentially the minute. They take a quarterback. I have to believe the price. Jimmy garoppolo drops enormously and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of him. Bill loves him. And i think that is fairly well documented so field that remains to me a very real possibility in all of this that with the quarterback that bill eventually comes out of this thing with is jimmy g. Tailgates what do you think. I'm not so sure about that. Greeny and i'll just say this. If the forty niners wanted to maximize the value of jimmy garoppolo would've traded them two weeks before free agency got going because think about the suitors they would have had available at that time chicago washington new england all those teams at the time. Not only did not have a new quarterback plan in place but had more roster flexibility in terms of cap space. I hear you people out there. You can always find the cap space if you want to make it but the forty niners wait until just after free agencies i way was over when all these teams that made all these plans and done their cap projections based off the players. They had acquired in washington. I'm ryan fitzpatrick and chicago. Signed andy dalton patriots. Brought back cam newton. I'm not so sure that jimmy garoppolo is anywhere other than forty niner at the start of this season. Because i you're right in the sense that the minute they draft a mac jones maybe jimmy jeez valued appreciate but it could go right back up if he plays how they expect him to play if they expect him to play pretty well this year well enough that they can make a playoff run a year from now they could have value in a jimmy. Garoppolo trade and obvious transition plan to wherever they take three. Take back jones. I think he star for them week. One which is part of that. Go ahead mike teague go pelley exception which is at. Unfortunately i lived this. A quarterback goes down in training camp with ryan. Tannehill went down. In two thousand seventeen we had to get jay cutler out of retirement. Sam bradford was trade for a massive premium when teddy bridgewater got hurt. So if you go with a trading. Can't jimmy garoppolo. At whichever quarterback they take there is a compelling exception to an aug trade. So you could be dealing from a position of strength in august all right. So dan orlovsky let me circle all the way back to the beginning because we only put it up there briefly but if we can chrissy let let's put that back up there with the odds having shifted to justin fields so field all of a sudden yesterday out of nowhere. Justin fields becomes the favourite. At caesar's sportsbook by william hill to be the third pick.

"Last night, Alabama wrapped up the college football season beating Ohio State the national championship game 52 to 24 behind one of the transcendent performances we've ever seen. In the national championship game from wide receiver Devante Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner had 12 catches 215 yards and three touchdowns. Nick Saban becomes the first to win national titles in three different decades, seven titles overall for saving in his coaching career, six in the last 12 years alone. How to break up Nick Saban's monopoly at Alabama to improve college football

"Today headline How to break up savings monopoly in Alabama to save college football. And the opening line of the piece said. Is this what we want college football to be? Saving, winning it all at least every other year, mixed in with an occasional title for Clemson or Ohio State and half the country west of Kansas, having little reason to tune in. I mentioned last night's ratings all time low in the college football playoff era. Least watched national championship game of the playoff era 27% off last year's numbers. There is a there is a fatigue. To dominance. For whatever reason. This is like clockwork when when a team wins. It is really good year after year after year. Some get tired of it. The dynasty that dominates turns into fatigue. Um If you don't like Alabama, winning naturally, and the fact is, as I mentioned earlier, Nick Saban has more national championships than the 129 FBS coaches combined. Think of that. For a second. He's got seven. That's more than all the active coaches if he added of altogether that seems impossible. They've won six of the last 12. Alabama's one half the BCS and college football playoff championships.

The tied their six national championship over the last twelve seasons the sorta span to win six titles in the ap poll era and ask for the head coach. He won his seventh national championship passing bear bryant for the most in major college football history. "Because he's looks a little bigger and stronger and he Has that same kind of leaser beam passing ability he can diagnose plays quickly he can make adjustments on the fly. He can do all those things and he does it with a certain kind of like gunslinger thing that is infectious for the team. I believe he does it with his brett. Farve and aaron rodgers had a baby. But like rogers is. You can't really point something that mahomes rogers can't do that. Those two guys can do physically things on the field. No one else who ever lived can do consistently like them and rodgers on a very good packers team there. Peaking at the right time the defense has come together. He has offensive weapons not like mahomes but he's got weapons. Davante adams is no joke. But he's got for a guy with a bye in the first round and who does who doesn't have to go to new orleans. If it gets that far they'll have to go to the frozen tundra boy. You have some rough sledding to get to a super bowl. aaron rodgers will have to be a rams defense that is as talented any defense in the league and playing well and then potentially a box or saints team and then potentially achieve the super bowl for a team with the first row bible. That's rough sledding. Meantime dan orlovsky on get up this morning. I was watching it with drinking my coffee. Watching get up and dan orlovsky came in and did a lot of brilliant stuff on the air. "If i just said join me on the goodyear hotline that would be ridiculous. This is cova days. Ladies and gentleman. So i'm in new york and my producer. Raj is in la and alabama just wanted sixth national title in a dozen years. They win the championship of college football on average once every other year just when it looked like look i know urban meyer and this one and that look bottom line is davos sweeney was the guy and clemson was the program that over the last half decade made. It seem like The nick sabin arizona over the alabama's ariza over. Maybe it's a new era. Where they're like co captains right but they ain't heads and shoulders above everyone else anymore. Clemson oh their head and shoulders over everyone. All right just like that just like like this. You're that that's me snapping into a microphone just like that alabama's and again and they went bell to bell. They went wire-to-wire. Lot of talk people arguing on first about asterisks. You know what's interesting about this year. Twenty twenty and the championships of the twenty twenty season. Now in two thousand twenty one. What happened who won. Because the lakers were favored by the public to win the championship and wire-to-wire there were the best team in the nba. No one took him seven games and they won the championship. Alabama was favored and wire-to-wire they the best team in college football destroyed. The sec had a very tough schedule. Beat the hell outta everyone and got crowned national champions in a route the los angeles dodgers who've been knocking on the championship door for years. Now got even better. Had an enormous budget huge market team playing with analytics. Playing money ball with money were heavily favored to win and they did. They won the world series. I don't know. I mean. I know this was a very trying year but in sports. There's no asterisk championships here. The teams the traditional powerhouses. Who were also supposed to win. This year did just that. they'll surprising. Outcomes dodgers lakers alabama. It's chalk chalk. Nick sabin meantime seven national titles six with alabama passes paul bear bryant on the all time list and you win the national championship game over ohio state just in fields of a highest data. Just put it on clemson. The previous week threw six touchdown passes over four hundred yards of offense from justin field alabama. Whip them fifty two to twenty four. That's at some coaching there. And by the way. I know college. Coaching is much to do about recruiting. Okay that's part of the job. Strict description well knicks. I'll someone else had the meyer all that talent or dabbled sweeney at all that then. Yeah sure of course. Yeah mix save. It's better recruiting two. Yes nick sabin. What do you think coach. Congratulations on your championship. And what do you think about this. Strange covid season high told his team in the very beginning. We're going to have a lot of disruptions that the team that handles the disruptions the best has the team that's going to have the best chance to be successful in the end and this team really did it and if you talk to the players they actually say that a lot of the disruptions and a lot of the things that we weren't able to do whether we're spring practice or summer or whatever. It was actually made the team closer and we became a better team because of some of the disruptions which i was actually surprised to hear but certainly they demonstrate that and the way they compete and play. Adversity can absolutely be a bonding experience. You can see this in boxing latouche championship fighters in a vicious brutal. Fight a grudge match but at the end of the fight they hug it out because you not only go through it against someone you go through with them right and this adversity can do that. It can bring teams closer together. It can destroy teams to but if the team has character and leadership it can bring them closer together. That's what happened with. Alabama max kellerman show. Espn radio is presented by progressive insurance. Make it easy to bundle your home and car. Insurance aaron rodgers to me is the. Mvp season is the best season he's ever had like. That doesn't have a space in my brain. Jared goff is the most important player in the nfc playoffs. Richard be any credibly. Difficult challenge for green bay. The thing about jared goff. Sam darnold the thing about a lot of quarterbacks office jumped darnold. He's better. But the thing about quarterbacks like i still don't know if enough years go by and you still don't know you know. Well what about ryan tannehill. Yes. there are exceptions. But i wouldn't take that too. I wouldn't take those exceptions to the bank. I wouldn't bet on him. I would bet that if you don't know you know like for example after four or five years. Did you know about aaron rodgers. Gave brett farve. Aaron rodgers the ball and half decade into aaron rodgers career to wait a while it hold that clip for a while. There was no like i wonder. If there's aaron rodgers guys going to pan out no you about rogers. Goth is what he is. He is a solid average. Starting quarterback maybe a tick above average. He has the ability to play very well. Especially if you use play action. He is not a superstar quarterback but who aaron rodgers. Sure is aaron rodgers. You know. I believe mahomes is the best i've ever seen. But he replaced aaron rodgers on my list and i can't really prove it with mahomes in other words anything mahomes can do. She's another you know, we got the we have to find out what when I can walk in and out of the kitchen, you know, because she's there in that area. So we gotta get our schedules coordinated, but but you're right just you know, as far as the dog See, you know, the National Association of Basketball Coaches is our governing body, you know for all of our divisions all divisions of college basketball and we're very proud of the association and I'm I'm very proud to be on the board of directors of that. I've been on that now for for a while and and now that you mentioned Craig being on new executive director and he's doing as you said so well a tremendous job of like us and supporting us, you know, we have great leadership and you know take anything away from Jim Haney, you know, but Craig is jumping in now and Baton has been passed to him and and we're proud to be a part of it together and I want a few committees. Actually. I'm on I'm co-chair myself and Frank Martin from South Carolina. We co-chair the racial reconciliation committee, which is a very important job that was created after the George Floyd murder and I was asked to share that and I was wow, you know, it was really blown away that I was asked to do it and but we've taken initiatives, you know, we've been fighting for certain things with them. Organization to help you know us to you know, bring about change to make a difference, you know in our society and through basketball, you know, whether that's the elimination of trying to take on elimination of old SAT and ACT test standardized test, you know, we're doing things when we were heavily involved with other coaches as well with voter registration, you know, some different things that have come up, you know come down and I have been a part of you know, something as anchor coaches for another initiative. That was his his baby in his brainchild is called a John McLendon minority leadership under the name that you guys, you know know who and and Bob you probably you probably knew, you know, coach McLendon. I wish I did know I didn't yeah. Oh totally well aware of. Yes, just the legendary faith. And and so we're we're you know, we have that's a coach driven initiative. You know, we're all coaches. We have Patrick Ewing. We have Coach K. We have Dabo swinney's Nick Saban football basketball. What channel is the one he and I have kind of been the anchor coaches, but it's been he's driven. It has been his idea. And that's something that we're bringing about having minorities more minorities women and men wage being having exposure and access and opportunity on athletic campuses to become Future Leaders, you know, we've talked about how do we get more? You know black people African Americans minorities in leadership positions. Well, this is one of the ways that we can try to do that to help diversify athletic departments.

"Take presented by the cash shop. Go Down Right now use code barstool. Free Ten dollars to the ASPCA today is Friday October sixteenth and Nick Saban's got the cocoa cocoa got to coach. Some probably got it from one of his his cream pies that eats every morning. Okay now. Weather I took a right turn where my brain was is this am I freaking out a little bit to be like Nick Sabin can't get the cocoa got Nick Sabin is an impenetrable force of all diseases and fun It might just be him when it's been more time recruiting. This gives them valuable time around his phone. He's just misteri coach on the sidelines for him yet or maybe put the scissor lift like the high school coaches. have him down there Brian Kelly would do assist lift Notre Dame up so That was kind of the big story nick. Saban's got the cocoa I guarantee that they're at least six Alabama fans have signed up for waiting lists to donate their lungs to Nick Sabin if it comes to that easily also get Steve Sarkisian now coaching on Saturday night which should be hilarious. If Alabama loses does account is it is this a coach K. thing does Nick Sabin not get this on his record do do when we when we do the playoff committee can we say well, that one loss not nick Sabin, I wasn't count on ironically think yes I think Nick Sabin we'll get in front of. The press and say exactly that be like, Hey, guess what that wasn't my team Della Steve Circasians team and did you see him at Washington USC? Exactly? Is there a possibility of the hugh freeze game like? A hospital and saw hospital room in the stadium. I would imagine I know Nick Sabin. Technically I can't have any contact with the team but I would imagine he's going to be coaching somehow someway somehow some way he's going to be coaching on Saturday night he's probably got the greatest like in in the ultimate twists he's got the greatest technology ever in his a- Batman Cave in his in his house I mean they sits there with all the TV's and he's ready to. Go. So it says that you can't have any technological contact with the team, but could he start like a big ass bonfire outside the stadium incense smoke signals up into the air or maybe maybe a Tornado Siren? Yes. Goes off Morse Code Tornado. Siren. Why not show I do think that like Nick Sabin is definitely like he's worth seven points and yet game. So if they lose by fewer than seven points then I would say this does not count as loss yeah I'd agree. So we have NFL week six, we have no Thursday night football kind of weird I agree with what you said on Wednesday show pf Thi this the way the schedule is working out the surprise football like Monday night, we have another double Monday night. I'm kind of digging that we just have football in random places. It's like looking under the cushions of your couch and finding a football. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Like going into some sweatpants that you haven't worn since last fall thought twelve dollars in sweatpants bills, chiefs exactly. It's Kinda. Cool. I liked the double Monday night games. We do have arch manning playing tonight Oh. Yeah. Archie grandson which further. On. ESPN to walk fuels are take that. Archie. Manning. Is The shadow commissioner canceled Thursday night football. His grandson now gets the spotlight ought to himself and prime time Yup also in Manning News Peyton manning had little picture come out. He's on the beach had six pack. Did you see that no Peyton manning expect? Well, it's funny. You say that because our very own billy football spotted that he's got the cone. Nipples. Means, possible hgh is very own Omaha beach down this week for nipples between Peyton manning and Cardi, B. Yes. Well, NIP are nipples having a moment they are I mean on aggregate they make one perfectly sized nipple. Just. The Nipple Week Way. Let's not shame Cardi B. for Nipples who is when I look at those Nipples I see I saw I didn't look because I'm respectful. I was forced to look somebody showed me screengrabs I look away. I. See Beauty I. See life coming from those nipples. She's got a kid. She breastfeeds Cardi B. by the way. Like we already knew that she was the coolest but the way she handled it being like players fuck up. Like whoops didn't mean that was my fire fest if we can jump to it early I'm just gonNA say Cardi, B. Being back with offset. That's tough for me. Yeah. You need another one. She's got to do I I'm pressed on Carter I need you are you're on Cardi? Bill. Can you give us your update on. peyton manning's nipples billy. Just eating some Swedish fish during the show. It's you mean is ABC? Did you just walk out? Oh, you got hanks food. Got It. You say his APP you said that there was something about as nipples no. Yeah. You said something about. Fishing the Mike. I think his wife definitely yeah. This is his fertility medicine. Oh okay. So he's ovulating. Ways multiple nipples like a pig Oh. Okay. I like. HGH specialist. What else we have he looks pretty low body fat yeah. Yeah. He was not looking like a beast that one picture I thought that was a tie well, tiny piece it's. It's also funny that billy assumes that that professional athletes treat like most people treat smoking dope like they get to retire from their jobs now can finally smoke weed and not be drug tested. It's like Peyton manning quits. He's like now I can finally take hgh and reap all the benefits now that I'm no longer. Take. Yes. All right. So what else we got? Oh, the falcons have the cocoa as well. No they don't. SCHEFTER Really fucked it up. What happened? "Hope you have a good time watching the draft and we appreciate your time as always okay. Dan Thank you take care. That's that's nick. Saban Alabama head coach. Jan just to recap Nick Sabin told us Ten minutes ago he has never sent an email. In this life he has also never sent a text and receives both he just started receiving emails. He's received tax and then he calls the person people are quite bothered by this. Well I like when somebody calls me every time. We'll there times when I don't want to hear from people but it's nice to get a phone call occasionally because my kids once again. I can text them and they'll respond. I call them. They don't answer. This is like saying though you still have dial up or you still flip phone. This is like Angela slip from people are either calling bs or trouble by Nick. Saban saying he does not send anything interesting not know how to respond to it or does he think it's more polite to return the email with phone call. I got the impression he wasn't sure how to actually do the sending of email. I think that that's probably the case I. I don't think he wants to adjust to modern life where you're sending out text all the time and his instagram and his facebook and all of those just. He's what sixty eight years of age? And if he hasn't learned now feel like he unless he's trying to stay in touch with recruits or his players. You know that that's a convenient way of saying. Hey just checking in making sure you're okay because you know I'm I'm the king of very very limited dialogue returning text message. You'll get a thumbs up or the letter. K that is true. Yes yes point but I saw comedian. A few years ago says said that every person eventually gives up on modern technology. They learn nothing else sir. Aj All right. I'm good whatever I've learned so far and beers at Nick Saban. I wonder if he has a person text back for him if he needs to. Not Designated Texter. Yeah like Jerry. Jones has guy does his glasses when he's in the box but that was his son who did his glasses. I think inheritance. Yeah got to do something in that job yes mclovin. It's funny you say like phone calls. Everyone says phone calls are out. People will not talk on the phone. They will only well. I'm talking about my kids. It's nice to get a phone call from my kids. I don't need it that often but like I have one daughter who facetime me all the time and you know. It's great that she does it. It's just you know I. I don't want to be on camera even though it's on just don't want to do it. And then what I do is I put it up to my ear occasionally and I'm on facetime so she'll go dad. I can look in your ear and I'm GonNa go facetime stuff. Yes todd. What about texting from one room to another when you WANNA get up in the middle of something kind of lazy as it gets when you're letting your kid notes dinnertime and they're in? The baseball wasn't but I've done that if they're upstairs and they might not here and then I'll just check so I don't want to walk up the steps but it's not like they're next store like the room twelve feet away. I got to go in there and say Dinner yes I still do. The keep saying their name but just get progressively louder a hundred and fifty times until someone. Here's Karen Karen Karen here. Instead I could just walk into the other room but instead I just yelled name like just go get him. My youngest daughter has the hearing of a dog like unbelievable unbelievable. She can hear all the things that she shouldn't here except for when I call her to do something. And I can't like Molly Amol Moser Molly a molecule and then you realize and then I'd say to my wife. I thought she had great hearing she goes. She's great selective hearing. I could be whispering something about her and then she'll I heard that you can't hear me call her dinner. What'd you say all right? We'll take a break last call phone calls here and what's in store tomorrow? What we learned. I think that's it's enough and by the way. Did you guys see that we have some spaghetti cooking air in the man cave? Did you see the sauce the Sunday gravy? We have a pasta contest that I created yesterday where I said two guys in the bag I brought up a conversation about Sunday gravy and how my mother in Law God rest your soul made absolute delicious under gravy? So Alan the guy goes I great Sunday gravy and then Marvin whose dad is Italian. Says my dad. My father-in-law makes unbelievable Sunday grave and then robbed the injured goes. Oh Man I can. I make Sunday gravy so I said to pauline this. I'm GonNa have these guys make our lunch here and under the under her under the disguise of this competition so I knew well yes it is well yes it is all right. We'll take a break and back after this on the Dan..

"Stories, the home to some of the best features, investigations, character portraits from across the SP n I Mike Philbrick your host for the double truck stories. Podcast. Remember subscriber double truck stories podcast on the ESPN app apple podcast, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Glares shouts. I rolls and the occasional dressing-down of his team to the media and not to mention more than a few national championships. That's the amount of Nick Sabin that most people get to see. But as these fourteen stories will tell you this far more deaths than humanity than meets the eye stick around after the story for my conversation with ESPN senior writer, Kevin van Valkenburgh as we talk about how famously hard coach has been a great person right under our noses. Now we present Nick Sabin is more than a scowl by Kevin van Valkenburgh. Nick Sabin is more than a scowl. The most powerful man in college football raises a skeptical eyebrow when he, here's the question. His glare feels like it could crack one of the crystal trophies in his office. Two seconds of silence passes. It feels like two minutes. What is something Nick? Sabin thinks people get wrong about Nick Saban. Finally, a hint of a smile creeps across his face. He removes his reading glasses and folds his hands in front of his Chan interlocking his fingers. One of the things that bothered me a little through the years is I don't think the perception that people have of me as a coach is really truly who I am as a person Sabin says, I'm always portrayed as the tough grinding working hard guy, and I think those things are true, but there is more than that, and I don't think people realize that after winning two hundred eighteen games and six national championships after spending more than a decade as the men, everyone in the sport is both chasing and trying to emulate. It would be easy to assume Sabin at sixty six years old does not see flaws in his own methods but ask him if there is anything he wishes he could change about himself, animals it for a full beat. I always pray that I won't get angry. He says, because most of the time when I get angry. Or emotional. I don't make good decisions. Sometimes I appear to be angry as a coach, but I'm not really angry people don't remember what you say. They remember how you made them feel. I think I've gotten a little better at that, but there is definitely room for improvement. The more questions you ask the more it's apparent that yes, there are things that people get wrong about Nick Sabin. Yes, there are the requisite tales of Sabin snarling a player for missing a block or at an assistant coach for what he believes was a boneheaded play call. But those might be the least interesting tales. Anyone can tell about Alabama's, mercurial coach, the best Nick Sabin stories like the fourteen that follow do more than eliminate..
