Facebook pledges to invest $1 billion in news after Australia standoff ends

"Facebook is defending its stance in australia saying that it has invested six hundred million dollars just since two thousand eighteen to support the news industry globally and it plans to spend at least a billion dollars or more over the next three years going forward quoting facebook's nick clegg the assertions repeated widely in recent days that facebook steals or takes original journalism for its own benefit always were and remain false. We neither take nor ask for the content for which we were being asked to pay a potentially exorbitant price. In fact newslink's are a small part of the experience. Most users have on facebook fewer than one post in every twenty-five five in your news feed will contain a link to a new story and many user say they would like to see even less news and political content. As tim burners lee the inventor of the world wide web warned. The australian law could make the internet as we know it unworkable. Arguing that it quote risks breaching a fundamental principle of the web by requiring payment for linking between certain content online and quote. Facebook is more than willing to partner with news. Publishers absolutely recognized quality. Journalism is at the heart of how open societies function informing and empowering citizens and holding the powerful to account.

Should Ekholm Be the Bruins' Top Trade Target This Season?

"I will give you the floor to explain why Mattias ekholm is a great fit. Just thought I agree with you on pretty much most of these points. Yeah. I mean, I think you look at it even obviously the brand see some depth right now because you know, we could be in a situation where when the Bruins resume play on Thursday if Crews Lake is a barrel on healthy, you know, you could be a situation where you're another body away from a guy like, you know, Nick Woolf for Cooper's a cord jacket Sean getting calls up to be pressed juice. Service like this so not ideal from the government's perspective. But even if this whole left side was completely healthy when you had loads on Grizzly kinds of oral. I still think the proactive move for this team is to still acquire a proven top floor guy just to shore up that defense just turned it as overall security like one. There's the health risk, which you know, we remember what it was a few years ago in the Bruins played the song is in the playoffs and it was you know, Tommy Crofts and Joe Morrow and those guys like that was that was you know, garlic McEvoy. Yeah. We're trying to give it was, you know, averaging 23 minutes of ice-time mean that's the worst case scenario in terms of injuries. But also you just run the risk of you know, going into the playoffs and it's you know solid as low as on as looked, you know as promising as a moral has been you still running a whole bunch of risk, if you roll those guys out expecting them to kind of, you know, not deal with the bumps along the road with that comes with playing heavy minutes and a playoff setting against tough teams like the capitals or off. No Penguins Flyers. If you get past that, you know, the the lightning, you know, all these teams that are going to you know, bring it to you. So I think would you rather keep this defense which has been great like you can I think you can you can admit that. It's defense has exceeded expectations and they've been very good. We'll also acknowledging and being cognizant of the fact that if you want to go all in this year, you need more stability back there. So I think a guy like at home makes perfect sense of your the Bruins. I mean, he's thirty years old big body which looks like a lot of Bruins fans, right? Just thought you know, he's six four. Yeah 6 for 2:15, but he's not just also like a I wrote that he's not like a guy like maybe Brenden Dillon who the the capitals acquired last year whose, you know, six four big guy, but he's kind of a stay-at-home option. I mean not Combs a skilled defenseman back there. He's one of the best over the last couple of years at generating 5 and 5 offense, which you need like you suck. Which I didn't it's funny. I was reading your column. I didn't realize he was that high up with 515 offense until I read that that

Huawei unveils flagship foldable smartphone for China market

"Have another foldable phone. This one from wall way. Sarah tells all about it all right away. The made x. two which now holds the screen inside like the samsung galaxy. Fold rather than wrapping around the outside when you close it while we added a second six point. Four or five inch led ninety. Heard screen to the made to for you to use. It is folded. The inside foldable screen is eight inches. Twenty four by twenty display and the company says the mate x has less of an internal gap so it folds flatter than the galaxy full. So they're obviously making comparisons there. The screen folds into a waterdrop shape at the hinge when closed to prevent chrissy and and also breaking the made two launches but the android ten based. Em ui eleven. No google services but while we says it will be. One of the first device is upgraded to harmony os. That's always us in april. The made extra comes to china on february twenty fifth for seventy thousand nine hundred ninety nine one which is about two thousand seven hundred eighty five. Us dollars the announcement was conducted in mandarin nod. In english as is as it was in previous announcements and facts while we may run out of parts in q to even one if us trade restrictions do remain in place. Nick asia reported last week. That always told suppliers smartphone component orders would-be sixty percent lower than last year. Yes on the one hand we we see wah wah moving over to samsung's form factor On the other hand they are touting unimproved hinge that they say well. We've moved there because we've made it better but outside this is obviously targeted only domestically in china and We it's a question of even how many they could make to sell in china. Trevor have you been paying attention to this. Yeah i mean. I think if you're running out of chips the navy a good strategy would be to put out a phone. That's this expensive. You know you're not gonna sell now. Granted they they've probably been working on this for years but like that's going to help like how many people are going to spend twenty eight hundred dollars on a folding fund but it puts wall in a position where they're innovating on this new form factor. And personally. I think that the the full actually works really well. Because you don't have that sort of lopsided gap that you do in other foldables while way is playing out the clock here. They're they're hoping they can find a way out of this and they just wanna keep making models. They sold off on her but they do not want to sell off while way itself which would be the only other way out of this but if the. Us doesn't budge. Which doesn't look like it's going to. I'm not sure how long they can go. Obviously not longer than q two if things stay exactly the way they are now. Well the the foldable itself looks pretty nice guy. I didn't watch the entire announcement again in mandarin but the subtitles. I can follow along pretty well but it does look at least you know when someone standing on stage telling you about specs. It looks to be very nice When it's you know when it's when it's being used in tablet form You got a nice little eight inch screen when you've when it's when it's folded but you can still use it as a phone kind of block easy but i think for anyone who's like yeah but i have multiple devices and one that makes sense. It does seem pretty sturdy. One thing i did like about it was that they said that it was waited on one side and it reminded me a lot of the e-readers in adel put more weight on. What side because it's a more natural way to hold the device when you're holding it open so i think that's something that hopefully other foldables will adopt. Because they're sort even because they're trying to distribute the parts evenly across the

Wolves fire Saunders, hire Finch as new coach

"We've got a head coaching change in the nba. The timber wolves have fired head coach. Saunders but i. I had a game to play brian. Sanders was coaching against the guy. He replaced tom sibito of the new york knicks. Having a great season there is game. Went down to the wire. Karl anthony towns had shot in the post to try and take the lead with thirty seconds left over his former teammate. Taj gibson but it rimmed out on a rim in madison square garden. Where the ball. Just capterra women out on sunday and that was ryan saunders. Final quarter as head. Coach of the minnesota timberwolves took over for his late father. Flip saunders in twenty nineteen thirty four year old had a string of injuries to deal with and played many many close games and the timber wolves already have saunders replacement chris finch who was a raptors assistant coach. This season has been given a multi year deal by the minnesota timberwolves to coach them full time. It's a rare move to pluck an assistant from another team. Mid season to take over job just doesn't happen very often. Usually the team that fires a head coach just moves their assistant over for a while at the very least when the full job search can be done until the full job search can be done in the off season but they had been looking at chris finch for a long time in fact he interviewed in twenty nineteen when ryan saunders was eventually given the job and finch like his good friend raptors head coach. Nick nurse coached abroad for a longtime uk. Germany and belgium then moved to the g. league and then was assistant in the nba for a decade. And he's an offensive specialist who worked with james harden in zion. Now he'll have the chance to work with karl. Anthony towns anthony edwards.

Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev Meet for the Title

"The crusade for the men's singles crown comes to an end tomorrow. And when the undisputed king of rod laver arena novak djokovic takes on russian number-one neil medvedev the world number one djokovic. Gunning for a history-making ninth championship in melbourne. While the russian authors seeking his twenty first consecutive win and first major title to preview the match. I'm joined by not edwards and commentator. Nick mcardle nick at the start of in fact two weeks before this we had you on the show podcast and you picked this matchup is that what led you to make that cole way back. Then let's say lucked out. Let's be honest that wasn't necessarily total. Total fluke made many wrong picks before but coming in you know we talk about the twenty one matches in a row for osaka. It's twenty in a row for daniil. Medvedev the non includes a win over novak djokovic close twenty twenty i think medvedev has really come into his own as someone expects himself not only to go deep. Atp events which we've seen the last couple of years but now to really do at at the grand slam so the drop laid out for him. I think he's played to each match to the level now. Can he bring an eight time. Grand slam australian open champ. Seventeen time major winner novak djokovic. Can he meet that level in a final thoughts really eighty s. What i love most is after medvedev bates itsy pass in that semi final is that he said stride away. All the pressure is on novak. He just load him up because he's plight fonsi before and never lost and it sorta. But i love how he just playfully. Put that out there and look. I think he'll come at. He'll show you'll be a little bit nervous. But i think he's just going to swing freely and that backhands i mean. Gosh they both have terrific backhands. But it's going to be like jock itch playing a twenty five year old vision of himself. It's going to be such an interesting match. I really count. Wait for the all similar. It can not just in court croff necessarily but as personalities both very eloquent and sort of personable somewhat chiming in front of the camera but they do have this white line fever as we know totally. I love those points that you've made and i think medvedeva's become more comfortable without. We sought the us open a couple years ago in the crowd. Really got against him and he used that as fuel which i think djokovic has have that in the past that in the past for sure for sure for jovic against rafa roger. He's felt that too. I really think that it is an opportunity for medvedev lake. Nona saying just swing for the fences and the scary thing is when he swings for the fences. Oftentimes the ball goes in. And i really think he's going to use that experience of beating novak in london last year at the atp finals. He'll really be geared up by that. Yeah i think so too. And i'm really looking forward to. I think the one area that novak can probably try to exploit daniels is that netplay. He's not very good. Let's let's be honest when it comes to netplay so if he can drawer him in a little bit and maybe draw that out. I think that puts pressure on daniel. Bit amid gets off to a flying start is going to be hard to stop.

Nick Cannon Tests Positive For Coronavirus

"We know that. Nick cannon tested positive for covid and missed. I believe the first half of the mass singer recording so he will not be hosting the masked singer season five at the start. You will be joining it at some point but he will not be there at the start. Is it surprising that in his stead. They didn't put craig robinson. And they went with dc. Nash right. I mean because that's the thing is that oh well part of the massing family in the universe. Whatever we're calling it. We're gonna yeah. He's right there. We're going to bring him in. It's gonna be you know. The perfect fit the fact familiar with the set familiar with the set up familiar with can from you know what i mean like. There's a level of familiarity that would totally make sense so the fact that they didn't make that decision. Yeah i think is maybe a little bit of the canary in coal about how they feel about his performance. But if i don't know. I mean look let's say let's say it comes back for a season two one. Do you think they would replace him or to do you think they should replace him. No i think ultimately it's something to get used to with craig. I think that. I mean craig clearly is more of a singer than a dancer. He's clearly had moments in last couple of offices where he say he say. I had the time of my life. He saying when everyone was dancing. The last performance dancing so like. He's clearly a better singer. He's not a dancer but also we got to decide. Do we want to host to be doing splits in being able to like you know break dancing. What are we trying. What does the hosts half to be a good dancer. Because i don't think that's the case. So i think ultimately craig will fit in better and better because i also think that you know nick cannon to this for four seasons and i thought he was dog but now i kind of like realizing that. He's actually better than i. Give him credit for after looking at other work. So i don't think that it's over for him and i don't think they're going to go out of their way to get someone new. I think craig has job security. I think so too honestly for all of them give them another shot right like if the orcas willing to give the show and other shot. Yeah give them another shots. Whenever like again. I love craig robinson. So you're not going to get a no from me. Their dog all right. So do you want to talk about now. In order the people who went out from like sixth all the way to. I think that's a good idea. Okay so we'll talk about so super six is we're at if there's any performances that stood out to you can talk about them if there's any comments you have. We can talk about them there. Okay sorry i think my brain just like completely zoned out. Did you say so. We're we're for six or do you want to start at the very very beginning owned. We've talked about everyone on portal super six right so we don't need to relitigate everything from the beginning. I wanna thank you. But i want to look up. Who is eliminated early. Just so i remember. Oh yeah never mind. I know i know. I used to bill mcknight. I my god. I can't like yeah. This cast list like looks that i don't know if it does. I don't know i just. I was a cast than massing. Here's the thing. So masked singer season four happened in the preseason. We got a question of. Do you think it's going to be a bigger celebrity. Cast than before. Because of the pandemic and i said heck yeah. I said it's going be the biggest thing they've ever done. And ultimately that was not to be the case it was definitely a lower calibre was the weakest cast of the four seasons as far as notoriety goes but then you look at mass dancer they nailed it. I don't want to spoil people on placements on anything for the massacre uk. But i will tell you that. Neil was on the masked singer uk. Why can't we get neo on the master. Us that's my. You're so not happy at. They came home sir he was on the messenger. Uk closer to the us. Why was he in the uk. That's my question. I know but this is like a thing in the uk or something like that. There's a reason those whatever. I don't know all right so the thing the thing is though so i'm looking at season four. For example i would say that season four of the masked singer and the mass dancer are probably somewhat on par. Although it's interesting people like brian mcknight and jordin sparks. I would love to have seen on the masked singer and others like a party. That's frustrated that they were on the masked singer or dancer unsmashed singer. But i mean brian mcknight like literally said i wouldn't have done the massingir because everybody would have known who. I was a little bit of a kind of like seal vibes. You know what. I mean. So i i. I respect that decision and jordin sparks. It felt very much like this is a purposeful decision that i'm making to a dance version of the show because i'm sure she was approached for massing or previously so but anyway okay all right. Yeah you wanna go in order so the super six. The hammerhead gets eliminated. Doen't oh what did you think of rapid fire rapid fire. Oh that's when they just hit them with all the questions right back. I don't know twenty seconds or something like that to ask as many questions as possible. I didn't so i just felt like it was a whirlwind and then they would ask something dumb like. Do you miss your family like no. I don't miss my family. what do you. What kind of question is that. It's a waste of a question. If these people are playing twenty questions they would make terrible choices for the first like this. Is your chance to narrow down between the people that an even even even if you ask a question and their responses like a little bit cagey or playful. At least you asked a smart question. Yeah the one about the missing. You're like do you miss your kids know exactly. No one is going to say. Even if they don't miss their kids no one is going to say no. But how does that help you narrow it down does it. Is it because because the thing is is that i can't remember exactly who it was four but i'm pretty sure they knew whether or not the person had kids. Because that's another thing is that maybe you're trying to clarify whether or not they have kids at all fine. But yeah as such as saddam. This should saddam. The only good thing that came out of it was the fact. That when craig robinson when i and then the little fire pyrotechnics off in the back. Also song word up how to song. Rapid fire did not have a song demand that their segment next time has a song rep firm. That's something in the background. But i didn't have any I don't know like pit bull or something. You need the pit bull song. The disney of like a fire song. Ivo feel like all pit bulls songs are about fire. All my god mars. Small bowel bump bump bump bump like rapid fireball. Something like that. I don't

Senators kill legislation aimed at increasing diversity within Virginia’s elite public high schools

"Been a heated debate involving what are called governor schools. They are elite schools in Virginia, the serve gifted high school students, But some say there's a lack of diversity among the students. Today, supporters suffered a setback. Legislation aimed at increasing diversity at the governor's schools in Virginia has failed, with a Senate committee voting to table it indefinitely. It called for modifying the current test based admissions system at the schools with a goal of increasing access for historically underserved groups, including black and Latino students. It's similar to what's happening in Fairfax County, where the county is being sued for overhauling the admissions process at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Some opponents of the change say would lower educational standards. That's something Senator Ghazala Hashemi takes issue with. That is simply not the case, and it is offensive to make that argument. Nick I. Nelly w. T o P news,

How 2,000 Years Of Monetary History Led Us To Bitcoin, With Nik Bhatia

"All right nick. Welcome to the breakdown. How you doing. I'm doing great. Thank you so much for having me. This should be superfund so as we were just discussing following your writing forever. I loved seeing it. Come together in kind of the the full length form In what i wanted to do today is actually kind of go back through history. And i think what layered money does so well is it gives people the context understand this rather than kind of just being like. Here's why bitcoin is awesome. Bitcoin is amazing. Let's actually dig into the history of money that got us here. And so what. I thought would be really fun. Today is actually walk. The listeners through some of that history of money starting way back at the beginning But before that. I guess like start with defining the kind of the central term here the central concept of layered money since the name of the book. It's obviously a really important concept. What is layered money. Actually meet layered. Money is a new framework. And so what i did was i took this idea of assets and liabilities and in our monetary system the way that the way that the system works is that financial institutions have assets and liabilities. They have relationships with each other and through these relationships come. Monetary instruments and monitoring instruments. Because they are within these relationships between financial institutions there is a natural hierarchy there and so the hierarchy of monetary instruments is not something that is common commonly discussed at term. So my goal with layered money was to bring that to the forefront in instead of talking about liabilities talking about a pyramid of money in which there is a hierarchy and at top of the pyramid are certain financial instruments or commodities and certain financial institutions. Right below them using those assets as the base for a whole monetary system and so the idea for layer money actually came directly from a paper in academia called the inherent hierarchy of money by a economics. Professor merlin. And what he wrote was fat. Money is inherently hierarchy go and he provided this academic framework for this and he had a three layered system gold government currency and deposits so a three layer system and i found that paper so fascinating in. So what i did was. I actually tried to trace the roots of that paper. That paper didn't have a historical context. It was about the hierarchy of sheets in the financial system. What i did with layered money is. I tried to trace the roots of that paper and i ended up starting the story about eight hundred years ago in renaissance florence To describe how. I saw this evolution occurred so i wanna get into florence but you actually start the book even farther back. You kind of pull the earliest experiments with coinage kind of set it in historical context. So let's talk about in the sort of ad era. I guess those early experiments with money with coinage What were the important kind of steps on the journey to get to where we get in that in that kind of renaissance that early period. What were the important parts of the earliest phases that you're looking at. So the transition between gold and gold coins is what identified as the first important transition so before gold coins gold was used golden. Silver were used as mediums of exchange. But it was in the form of non standardized fars jewelry etc these days gold and silver items but not necessarily uniform in their measure in weight. So the coin. The coin did was it. Changed this idea that we can to measure or gold and silver. Every time we transacted with each other. Because now the coin that i that you recognized you have acquired that i recognize. I know how much your coin as you know how much mike ways and so we can change We can exchange a lot quicker than if we didn't have the coin so that was very important advance in that happened for the first time. Several hundred years before a renaissance florence in actually in ancient libya which is in modern day turkey so after the after we start getting gold coins then we actually see the greek in the roman empire's us coins To admit coins and to use these coins in order to expand their empires and exert their influence over their subjects and what we saw the roman empire was really example devaluation so this idea that a government can come in mint coin but then the next year put less gold. Silver in the coin and progressively keep cheapening the currency But tried to really get away with this idea that the currency that the issue this year is the same as the currency that they issued ten years ago which had twice as much silver or golden and so the manipulation of currency at through government started to happen as well Along the signed before we get into the rasul's

This is a new hope the possibilities are endless blank canvas money draft picks Capital. Theoretically the Patriots could do a lot of different things some of which could be very exciting and interesting and I can't think of one thing that would just throw a wet blanket all over over all over that any more than bringing back Cam Newton. Yeah John, it's it's weird. I I started hearing the chatter on all the Sports Talk radio station a week and I'm like what the hell is going on? Like it's basically like Cam Newton's become it's similar to some of the debates that you hear in politics like where they just like Stoke fear in people to generate interest in their shows and things like that. It's like, ooh now Cam Newton's the boogeyman that like who they might be bringing Cam Newton back just to get people to react like people people need to settle down and this is why you suck. Had to be SJ this why you listen to this podcast because you know things like how last offseason when everybody was going nuts about Saddam was a guy in Cherry stem is going to be this and Jerry system is going to be that and he's going to be the next guy. You know, what did I tell you from January of last year over a year ago. I told you that he was not be the starter that there was going to be some sort of Veteran competition. So, you know, welcome to coming here where you where you get well informed you don't have to worry about the hysteria. You just get straight facts and and what's going on. So here's where we are. We Cam Newton and this is something that I've been talking about since the end of his Patriots season, which is it's always been a possibly that Cam Newton could come back here. It all depends on what happens with the market and who they end up with the quarterback and this and that but for anyone to suggest the Cam Newton month Is going to be re-signed being the definite number one. That's what we want starter here next year. That's not going to happen. It just it just isn't in and here's why. We've also sort of touched on this but just to sort of reinforce the point. I think what happened this past season is the Patriots realized and and look we've talked about it that there wasn't really a plan back to check understood that there weren't enough chairs for the quarterbacks and somebody was going to be left could have been Jameis Winston could have been Cam Newton could have been Andy Dalton could have been anybody. It happened to be Cam Newton and they said they'd make it work. It did not work and what I think John what happened was and actually I know this happened the Patriots realized after the Cam Newton experiment that not every quarterback can work in the system and that's not to say Cam Newton still not capable of playing good football. I think that he is do I think it could be better with a better Supporting Cast absolutely I do and do I think God Part of the problem last year. Yes, but at its basis in this scheme, you need a quarterback who sees the totality of what's going on in the field. You need someone who's going to win before the snap. You need somebody who's going to see something on the defense say that's this is about to be a bad play here. We're checking to this and Cam Newton outside of you know, he might he might have alerted a few plays here and there but not even close to what we've seen in and look I'm not going to compare him to Tom Brady. Nobody's going to be Tom Brady, but The Baseline Jimmy Garoppolo would have been a lot better. Jarrett Stidham probably would have been a lot better in terms of what he could even when Jarrett Stidham got in John. We saw things like Palm Coast him would change things that the line that's the Baseline in this offense. And that's where it starts. The number one tenant in this offense is don't run any bad place when the quarterback is incapable of doing that for whatever reason that's that's strike. Number one strike. Number two is understanding after the snap. What's going to happen? What is the defense going to do? What is that going to mean in in reaction time? Like if I see the if I see the free safety all of a sudden rotate from too deep to single single life safety. I should know like that who's going to be open, but great. Let me ask you real quick. Cuz everything you're saying makes perfect sense, but did you need a year of did the Patriots need a year of Cam Newton to know that he wasn't that guy? Is it did you think he was that guy walking through the door? Is there anybody really smart Personnel people out there who thought? Oh can't might be able to adapt to this Patriots dial offense. It didn't seem sensible fit. Anyway. This is a guy who's always had accuracy problems who who plays a totally different style of ball. I mean, I don't know why you would have brought him in the first place. If your idea was to offer a patriot style offense

Brian Austin Green Celebrates Valentine’s Day with 'Amazing, Considerate, Loving' Sharna Burgess

"What was the Valentine's headline about Megan Fox and Machine Gun? Kelly. He Meghan, Our machine gun was wearing some blood of Meghan Kelly Fox. Around his neck in a necklace, right? Because they love each other so much. They're so metal. He wears her blood. She heavy metal. No, honey. He is No, honey. No, honey, He's not. He is rap. He's a rap. He's a wrap party. Okay, He's a rapper artist s O Anyhoo. See what? See? Um, back to the media War That I said, is being fought betwixt the to know every time one of them does something publicly, The other one responds through the media passive aggressively, right? Well, Brian Austin Green has done so and he did so in the form of a 12 Minute Instagram live session on Sunday with Sharna Burgess, His Burgess, Bert Burgess Burgess. His love interest 12 minutes. It's a long time on how they how grateful they are to have found each other. It's 12 minutes talking about there. Is he wearing her blood? No, but he did say the following and I just thought Now listen, I will Nick pick I am not above it. He said the following of her and her character of his new lady in his life. He calls Sharna Burgess and amazing, considerate, loving, kind person. And I just thought like the considerate piece was kind of an interesting choice of words. Like I said, I'm going to nit pick. Considerate is a word that you use to describe a child may be like, Oh, there's such a kind and considerate person. Or it's like a report card word, but I don't hear that word and think that's something you say about the person who you've fallen in love with unless you're trying to say. My ex is inconsiderate on this person is considerate. And you're not wearing the blood of your Yeah, Favorite person. And honestly, maybe it was a little bit of a reaction to the blood. Necklace. I just think you know, these two couples are like living out their population ships their new publish in ships and sort of using it as a vehicle by which to take out their passive aggressive thanks to towards each other. They are definitely they are definitely doing this very performative Lee. Apparently one of the other things that Brian Austin Green said in this 12 minute long instagram live was this could be the start of something amazing. He said. Quote. This could be the year that starts something. This could be the start of something amazing. I said that last year

"Maybe it's a Larry Bird fan. Maybe is a Kevin Faulk fan. I could tell you he's very active in our daily Q&A as he's off. He's all over my case. He's pepper me with questions. All right. Well good job solid job out of Bad Axe thirty-three Gregg. I know you talked about how poured the passing offense was in the sessions that you watched. However, could the reason be our wage? The Box are just so good. Like you said even Ross and Brian are good Duggar a rookie was very good early as well. So how much when you look at this offense the passing game struggles Greg, how much do you credit the defense versus how much you actually look at the offense and go they're just not good certainly a little, you know, Nick I just think that God I certainly had been watching football for for a while. So I like to think that I know the difference and look you have to give the Patriots secondary a ton of credit app i m a r they're spectacular. I mean even like bad accent. I mean DeAngelo Ross and Miles Bryant are two guys that were released. I'm not sure if they're back on the practice squad. I can't remember our thoughts had but two kids who really did a nice job in Camp and made plays and and they were just so deep in the secondary and so yes, they deserve a lot of Chrome. They make things a lot tougher that being said you still should see flashes of big plays in the in the passing game. Those were few and far between much lower than any other training camp. I've been to Across The League, I think also I look at Cam Newton's sort of processing the game and it's on the slow side. And that is one of my big worries with Cam. It has been watching him in the past is you'll watch him on coaches film Nick and you'll say you'll even see the carbs which way it's going be like, okay. Well this guy's going to be open and like, you know, three step drop boom get it out and he's like three step hesitate then get it out. And so we saw a lot of that on the practice field is not very clean because is it because that's just a weakness of his is it that he's trying to learn the offense and it's not quite going quick enough in his head. Is it because he's trying to be too perfect because he's knows there's a dog Pressure on him and that he's got to prove the football world that he's still a starting kind of franchise quarterback, or is it a combination of all those things? Like how do you feel how do you feel about his kind of mental about the game is football IQ and how he reads things when you look back at his past and and what you saw a can yeah, I I I want to say it's all of those things Nick. I just think that way he's a guy and you gotta remember this is a kid who played it Auburn under Gus Malzahn and that is one of the simplest College offenses that you'll ever see everything pretty much dictated for the quarterback. So that's sort of his base. Urban Meyer wasn't whole lot different when cam was originally recruited the University of Florida..

"You've got them at 10 and 6 tell us about it. Yeah, so I went through the internet is a great thing Nick. They have these they have these sites where you can go and sometimes the internet's great thing. That's not so much that is true. Just avoid Twitter so they had Sites where you can predict every single week of the NFL season. So I like to do that just to fool around and see what happens and I came out with 10 and 6 for the Patriots. I actually at one point and you can sort of gauge the standings as you're going. I have them at 4 and 6 at one point. Yeah, and they were a couple of games behind the bills and the AFC East. I think I I think I had them splitting the season series with the bills, but then they reeled off six straight wins another one in the playoffs over the Steelers. They lost to the I think it was the Chiefs game. And so that's where I came out and I and what's funny is that I went back and looked at when the schedule was was released like everybody does I went through the wage schedule and just said, okay just for you know Giggles I'll go through it and I came out with 10:00 and 6 also now I will warn people Nick that I went through my history log. This works General. Com of predicting the Patriots season and I was one game too generous each of the past three years. So that would leave you to you know, 9874 us math Majors instead of the tenants say exactly and and I will say this I think that's significant because I think I think 9:00 and 7. I don't know if the 9 and Samsung is going to get the Patriots into the playoffs even even with the new format. Yeah. I I think the way I went through it. I think the AFC West I think I also had the Raiders were making it. I think they have a little bit of an easier schedule. I think the north has an easier schedule the South will beat beat each other up as normal so they will probably have a nine and Seventeen emerge. It might have a couple of teams right around there the Colts, you know, and what have you so you know, when once I saw that once I saw I had them at 10 and 6 I went back and I said, yep. Let me just see what happens if I do make them 9 and 7. So I changed the week 16 Showdown against the bills to a bills victory that made the bills the AFC East Champion in the Patriots were on the outside looking in very similar to 2008. The last time they did not have Tom Brady as they're starting starting quarterback. So, you know, I think that's an accurate number. I think you know right around anywhere from 11:00 and 5 to 9 and 7. I am not one of these doom-and-gloom guys. Yes, they have issues. But that's negating all the other issues that all the other teams have an office in the coaching advantage. And so, you know, I don't know I mean Nick do you think that that's being too optimistic or do you think that's yeah. I mean, think again, I think the bottom of the barrel for this team is 9 and 7 and that's the premise is always that you're healthy. If healthy, then you'll be better than not right. So if this team is healthy including cam who's one of the most important guys on the team Obvious reasons if they're healthy across the board for most of this season, I don't think 9:00 and 7 is crazy. I don't think 10:00 and 6 is crazy. I think you start to feel a little bit too. Bullish. If you bring up 11 wins, which is what need an 08 when they got hosed and didn't get into the playoffs that year as luck would have it but I don't think 9:00 and 7 is outrageous. I don't think 10:00 and 6 is outrageous..

Oh Sara it's into. You GotTa Watch this on Netflix. It's been out for a while. It's so good quick. How little I didn't know that. That aimed existed. Yes in fact. It's the only thing that exists for many people now like that is what they're interested in and I now know that it's it's it's like a figure from our youth like a Madonna or Michael Jackson except the one missing ingredient is content like they. They do everything they were people screaming like the they make money. They have this art incredibly ardent following. They don't have a talent that they exhibit. And they don't. They don't make any arch royal but its performance. Give me some their life is there are right the skippy of the SKIP. The detritus of making a record or a film. Just go straight to the adoration of celebrity. You pay will show up. That's the exchange. It's like my old saying that my life is my art like my wife is a Fart. Okay loved the love to. I still have the PHILLY got a lot of people. Have Tattoos factor. Get the Tadpole get it. Just can't wear I think face. Yeah I think you're facing your forehead and then the last two on the top of your feet. I think that wouldn't be a painful thing. I'd chicken feet for the first time the other night. I never had chicken feet before. I'm doing a finger for for all the podcasts out. There listening. I'm I'm wiggling my finger to give you the simulation of an ad second. It does kind of look like that's sort of what it's like. You know what I mean because I love what I do and it's like if you don't love what you do and for me that's inciting conflict physical you know. Heavy heavy casualty conflict around the world. If that weren't how I made my money how. I put food on my table that I might feel differently. Great place for you go off. Let's one of your famous tirades rate. Interestingly I almost never have tirades when it comes to planning and executing I love what I do. I love what I do. It's your happy place. And you're drinking white wine and I was like a cell drink wine and I drank white wine with you for the whole time. Got Off the plane and threw up for an hour in the airport. Yes I had I roofing you and I feel like I did not with you. At the time was dirt it was yes it was what I call the dream. Dart which is a roof. I mean it's essentially roofing all and and I wanted to apologize to you and I'm a great time really a great time talking and it was wonderful but then I threw up into one of those plastic bags that you get if you go to like the Hudson News. It has like pictures of magazines. Printed on magazine covers so yeah. It was big a practical choice. Yeah it was like a it was a it was like a Julia Roberts like on the side one of the magazines Vanity Fair and then like a Kate Hudson week where people yeah And then a and then a you know a a frog with top hat for the New Yorker a couple from. Hgtv may or may not be splitting. I'm just recently watching some. Hgtv stuff. And I genuinely think that you guys should go do that show you guys should go make an HDTV's really both have the skill set do then. I can design. Yeah I never thought about. Hey let's do it not shut this off. Can I do? Can I do for warm up for a multi cam? Yeah I'm I mean that's a great idea. I didn't think about that. I wanted to warm up at the when you're taping at a house right like I warm up the the crew and the people who you're going to be helping with their houses. Let's let's do that but but have four cameras. Yeah do the whole thing again. You guys should do an age. Gt nobody hunches up those shows. I mean they could be so much. Funnier and with a live audience maybe we would call it bringing up the house Yeah so I was on your show big mouth. I did one episode of that and I heard that just got an. It's been picked up for three more seasons. Yes yes we are. Show thank you we Regulation thank you. We are It's great it's a very It's very nice to have something that That I have like I make it with my friend. I make with a lot of people but I created with my friend Andrew. Goldberg who I've known since I was in first grade. We've been friends since first grade. And and it's about us in middle school. And we make it with mark and Jen Mark Levin Jen Flack who Andrew. Was there assistant his first job when he came to Grad School? And then it's this lovely thing that you know I make with all these people from my whole life you know and specifically the idea that I make it with Andrew that I we sort of form each other's sense of humor and sensibilities in that like you know seventy five years later that we'd be making a show together is very special. That must be really gratifying. It's not as much like the Brady Bunch as I would have thought a little different. It's a little different. I mean I see a lot of influences. Yeah we have a lot of well there is. I'm trying to think there was some great brady. There was the episode where Peter Rates Voices Changing Right So we sort of have a little bit of that but then like this Fuck Monster Near. Who's WHO's also screaming in his ear that he should fuck stepsister We do have an episode this year. Where Andrew they go on a trip to Florida to like his grandfather's house for Passover and he sees his cousin and he re and he's wanting wants to make out with his cousin. The thing really want to ask you about the most. I'm not sure fake should or can but I'm going to is Do you have a girlfriend right now. I do have a girl for Yes she's really lovely ex-girlfriends yes and they're here right now out everybody Yeah I think it has three. Yeah I do have I have a girlfriend and you do not so my ex girlfriend grace chance. Of course Cindy Brady Cindy Brady Tom. Down BRAND SOURCE AND MR T. So Ms as when I'm with her body cured. Yeah that's what I called. Her faulk is so deeply at all. yeah we It's good I don't think I've said that publicly really a scoop do you guys I know I don't have a girlfriend right now. No No. I'm I'm off the dating scene since the year. Two thousand you trying to become the next bachelor so he doesn't Wanna be perceived as dating anyone having nowhere married. It's different to be married than to have a girlfriend I think. So yes and yes. And you want a date in Roberts from the Upright Citizens Brigade yes and I. I will agree to be the bachelor. Only if my choices are and woodworking partners and they and their doesn't have to be on a romance or physical effects. Do you find that in that space. You you have. You have chemistry with people in the woodworking space. Oh Hell Yeah. Do you have like a dating APP? For woodworkers Not I'm sure there is one I on one the hammer for there's the hammer. The mortis inten of course GRINDR. Which is yeah grandma right? Now that gives a grinder. You know they don't credit as a woodworking timber. I am be are taking timbo different for guys named Tim Timbers. Kimbrough's now I I'm trying to. I've never done woodworking. Have you ever been on a dating site? You have. What one that one? That's kind of for people in the bill. Yo- speak its name any other ones. No no that was a lot of people's Yeah I actually met my girlfriend in on that. I'm one of those same people I know have done that. It's completed kitchen as Mary took that she met on really. Yeah it's it really. It opened up. It opens up just who you can meet. The stigma is so gone from what it and there wasn't. Even I remember early early two thousands when I was in New York dating of couple friends Ron and do what you do but like I. It wasn't it wasn't everybody doing it now. It's completely changed and it's you know it allows you to open up your circles if you at 'em like I don't know what it's like for kids but as an adult on it. I'm like it was it. It served its purpose for me. So you're now able to date outside the. Yeah I mean I I've will. I'm now super into those sort of clowning world. I have made my way through the you know the the French I am. Yes I was a pig circus clown school together. Yes Bill Irwin would just hurl insults at me. He was flirting that Sir. That's nice that you say that it started. The time did not feel that way. It was because I I made the mistake when I met him of saying that. Um My blue heaven was the movie was that it was rick. Moranis is in Steve Martin's movie and he got he got very upset but and I was like I love you in that movie I do. Actually I really do. Love Him in that movie. He's GonNa get dancey touchy down. It's terrifying only flies off the handle. Any any packs himself into a small box. Yeah feels passive aggressive about. Yeah Yeah and I've really taken to sort of French clowning. I find that humor the funniest French French clubs. When you go to I go to Cirque du Soleil for the inbetween skits. You know where there's like a perverted old Frenchman. And he sort of says slightly racist things to people. I find that so funny really right up my alley chef's kiss. Yes exactly so bags dating APPs. Nick do you think like if your life were completely different everything? One hundred percent different I'm trying to this neck. I know there's confusing because there's too but do you think you would ever have called me neck. Oh Okay Nikko. Nikko Calming Little Little Mickey. Do think that you would have ever gone dating APP like if dating around when you're single well having never Like I landed. I'm sorry I'm GonNa be earnest for a second having landed in the love of my life twenty years ago before our lives were taken over by smartphones It's hard to fathom because All of dating that I did per se which was very little was because I'm so buried in the world of live theater and that and whatnot and learn and EUCHRE club And so a I. That was my social circle and it was large enough And rich enough that I was always able pursue relationships within theater so I mean in my life before you and I met. I think officially went on maybe three dates in my life. Because I never you know if I was looking for a relationship I would consider the three hundred people I knew and the community and say Oh Leeann just broke up with somebody. Hey do you WanNa Leeann rhymes yeah? We didn't work out. Ps So if I had always I still feel like. There's something cold about those dating apps where you know. I just think well I WANNA meet people but as as a gateway so that you can meet people as Nick has pointed out expands the circle of possibility of like. Oh here's someone who lives a mile away that I never would have run into right through this and then like in the dating apps that in like the theater because I think most of the most of us you do meet the people in your world but the older you get. If you're still dating the fewer people in that circle you know will put up with your tirades right and so you have to get outside of that circle. People don't know tirades in your bio. Oh is that listed as money or attributes Yeah like I love food. I love to travel. I love to fly off the fucking handle at the most inconsistent things you can't you can't predict what's GonNa Make GonNa make me lose my fucking Shit But what's crazy? Is that ironically. Like this woman was from different completely different world than than mine and we never would've met otherwise but then we started dating She hired assassin. She is a voluntary assessable. Oh no no no. It's it's a fair very fair question and a and a good distinction make. She kills for sports. I just had a feeling is an assassin crazy Makes Sense you know. No so. She she It was in New Jersey New York and But when we she came to my place in La. She's was like this looks familiar and realized that she her one of her best friends lived down the block for me in La and had en- she had basically been staying with her friend whenever she came to La for like six years. So like this weird thing of literally within a mile away and never would have met man so then you know and I think also depending on how you behave inside of those kind of in the APPS that like you know you can sort of get to know people in a in a sort of interesting way of you know communicating back and forth before you need whereas in a bar or or amongst unless you met someone through who is a friend or in your group of friends and it sort of gives you a chance to get to know people. That's good bypass the sort of theater of the first dates that are awkward. And like so. What what do you do? Yeah I had a Jew we order some APPS. Yeah get to the point where you feel like you could ask them out. Even you can bypass that. Yeah exactly and you can sort of sniff out through some conversations whether you think you might actually be someone that you might be fit to go out and spend time on a date because also like the older. You get the busier you are. You just have less time to sort of like be like sure. I'll check that out and and also I think you know I am a you know. I'm an open person but also a have my like tirades. Let's be honest. His.

"Right so three favorite memories from the first year of our relationship chip courtship relationship. Oh okay the first is uh-huh that did not encounter that in the first year on Fortune The first is the first day I met you I. I was one of the craziest days of my life. Because you'd been set up as as this exciting person. Ah Koy not seen I had not seen will and grace and so. I wasn't familiar with you but you came in and you looked amazing in your and I had even just seen very few people in real life. Who dressed sharply as you do and you just looked great and you had crazy fashion shoes on that had like six inch platforms were read a wooden platforms? Yeah Oh yeah. There were would winning lawyer when heels and fun and so there was this aura around. You know I had worked with great people Dylan Chicago and with like people from film and TV at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago so I had been around and like experience. SORT DWARF DIFFERENT forms of mastery and like movie stars and Whatnot but to this day perhaps could think of like David. Hyde appears comes to mind. I get there are very few people. If any who exhibited the craft that you shat out in the very first I read through like I was immediately besotted with you as an actor. You as I said to you when you eventually were called to consider to audition for Young Frankenstein on Broadway that Mel Brooks was producing. I said you are like a Mel Brooks movie overview like you are you. Are you seem to have your like an encyclopedia of Vaudevillian faces. Takes timings and that is always always apparent whether you're doing because you're a consummate artist you you don't show up at the first read through of a play without having prepared like you're ready ready to present the play you know you're not like I'm doing some play with a bunch of jerks like you know you don't blow anything off and so from the moment I met you. I just before I even knew that I was going to fall in love with you. I was like Holy Shit. I have a new hero. What is nicer than it held up? I mean you still just never met anybody. That's the thing the the this is the tip for the listener. I always thought if you're talented. Look when I was a kid I really loved Eddie Murphy and his comedy and I've you've equated that kind of talent I was like man if you're as good as Eddie Murphy. You just show up you price smoke a joint and then you like. Hey guys. Here's some bullshit I was thinking about. And and they laugh their asses off and give you a million dollars and you go buy another corvette but that's a fallacy. That's stupid you. The the people who succeed the the most have that talent but also treat it responsibly and work as hard as they can to package and present their talent in as effective as possible. And you still do that and I have learned a always I love having you around around setting that example for me So that's one memory number two. I guess would be my introduction to you your style and lifestyle which would mean like walking into your apartment for the first time time that eventually would become our apartment again was everything you do should be in a museum or magazine and so that apartment had such an incredibly charming sort of Chinese vintage store slash Chinese feel I guess and Wasser Aus what they call. It was about to say And I was going to spell it to go ahead and spell it. C. H. I. N. O.. I S. E. R.. Shin was I was very nice. We Love we love words here and we often get into conversations conversations about how I pronounce them wrong But again you know to walk into someone's is living space that is so charming and cozy and Attractive just again I. I uh I had been to cool apartments and I'd seen houses you know that I was like. Oh that's cool but this was just such a cut above But so far above that. I still didn't get it that you were attainable or like available to me that I could remotely be in your league. I was like look at how my hero lives. That's crazy no wonder. She knows her lines the way she does. And then I guess the third memory that springs to mind mind is not the fourth of July at the Hollywood bowl and we went to see Glen Campbell and It was just a beautiful. You know the most diligent night under the stars listening to Glen Campbell and then the Hollywood symphony the La Symphony played some John Phillips Sousa and there were fireworks and you asked me to beat her boyfriend in your ear. Yeah and you bought me that American. An Eagle Blanket because I was cold and crying and whimpering yeah and you wrapped in that American Eagle blanket and restored my manhood and now here we lie in our bed love. Wow you believe crazy Jonah. podcast thanks for those nice compliments. Really sweet sweet. Thanks for giving me 'cause So that was the beginning of our love. Two thousand almost twenty years where we're past the nineteen year mark or into the twentieth beginning of the twentieth. We'll be twenty years and I think April so we Matt Holy Shit. You look really good. Thanks thanks You know you. You'd think a couple that have enjoyed each other for twenty years. They would say things like well. Were holding up okay and we are but you don't give me cause to say that for some reason you look better than you did when I met you. That's that's really nice. Thank you as a human so that helps. That's a good beauty tip so then I was like I said that right. After we met was I started the third season of will and grace. A lot of things happened. But I met I. I got nominated for an emmy for the first time and Nick went with me to the EMMYS and I one which was crazy so that was kind of a thing. My mom was there Do an amazing navy blue dress with what I've learned is called plunging neckline line plunging. Justin fit me at all was falling off. My right Boob is out all night from talking. Talk them all right and then so a lot was going on. And I'm saying that by way of saying that Nick went from living in somebody's basement with dirt floor to going with his new girlfriend. The emmys and you know things like that so it was like a little bit of a different lifestyle mhm venture to say it was it was like if it was a bugs bunny cartoon you like threw me in the door of J. crew and and Barney's and I winded through and Barney's or in the same category. Those are the two places he took me. I guess for casual and And more formal wear and I- world winded through and came out the other end like dressed in a Tuxedo With smoke coming out my ears because of the price of socks. Yeah that's a whole new world and Then I did will and grace until two thousand six and you worked as an actor so the good thing the good thing about let me ask this question four. How did you avoid hoping would get to the good thing about him? From the time that say we met until you got parks in Iraq you worked sporadically as an actor but not consistently. How did you avoid avoid falling into the trap that all other actors fall into except for you of being annoying and complaining about not getting on its actors are unbearable? You're not one of those types of people you don't fall into the unbearable categories. So how did you avoid Loyd that well when I first got to give you a clue. Okay I was going there when I first when I first got to L. A. and sort of quickly was thrown into the business and I was lucky enough to have like an agent and in a manager manager so I was getting auditions in meetings and I quickly learned to my dismay. How should he? The town is and the businesses and now superficial everything. Everything is because in Chicago Theater. I would get work. Just on the merits of my people would see you WanNa play and say oh we should cast him as the jackass in our play and so forth and work would get work then in Hollywood. You'd go into these meetings in the late nineties. Imagine where the Internet had not taken over and people would say like like they look at your list of theater credits and say The what is this. This is a Chinese menu was who's Shakespeare and and they would say. Do you have anything on tape like you know. And you're like not have some bullshit or like a commercial or music video now and so I basically was immediately rendered a sort of immediately emasculated where people were like. Is your worthless until you get some work and in order to get work you have to get an agent hard to get arrested and I said this is horrible and all my friends were doing what you said. Everybody was just like getting together and commiserating like. Did you get an audition. Did you get a callback. This is so hard. Let's get drunk and I said okay. I can see this is going nowhere. So I'm GonNa shoe this whole scene. I'm not gonNA chase this fame and like Hollywood. I'm going to make money as a carpenter Instead of like the chase everything that I see in the trades and so focused on building things I've started building decks and porch. I like cabins and people's yards and stuff and that quickly led me to become obsessed with woodworking in Pasadena Asa Dina. There are these houses by the Green Green Brothers That are incredible examples of of craftsmen working both furniture and timber framed houses and just suddenly My years of scenery building tool use and house framing all sort of coalesced into into An epiphany where I said oh I am obsessed with wood and making it into stuff so I started in my woodshop and that Make building furniture. There was just an incredible subsidiary. Part of my life so that I could go to an audition that more often than not would end in rejection and like would would could easily lead to depression but instead of wallowing and that I would then go to my shop and just be okay with life. But that's just one ingredient. The thing is you were the biggest ingredient because I had a happy life and I was being supportive of you. I was taking care of like you know whatever I needed to at home while you were kind of thing. And like between that and occasional collecting work and woodworking. I thought I had that. My life had peaked. More than I ever dreamed. It would like like to be the main guest star on like an hour drama or to have a nice part sundance movie. Those were really exciting citing to me at the time and they paid well And so I I was over the moon you know I didn't. I guess I never had had any any crazy ambitions like I got a win an Oscar or got to you now have to play an astronaut..

"May have seen her once at something somewhere over the years but but she's part of like she she was in the class ahead of me. Okay so yeah too old for you you. You don't like older women. Williams trying to say dear listener is that I'm eleven and a half years older than nick. Get Clarence Jokes All right so I know I saw one place that you lived in after we had started. actually dating for real because you had rented a little house with your brother. Albert outlived mounts Nick's younger brother. Matt lived out here for a little while year or two couple years and you guys had rented a House that you slept in total of one night. I happened to now for a fact and because you are pulling that same gag on me that you pulled with your landlady where you're like. Oh It's pretty nice here I guess Uh Don't mind if a do so your landlady I have at least that in common and I saw that place I remember it because the floor was slanted not a good good. I'd said what a eight or nine now more twelve degree I was gonna say that was my first. I think I was GONNA say fourteen degrees. Yeah it would have been degree. Slant rain would've safely cascaded down the floor. I mean it was. It wasn't just like I think the floors there's a little crooked. It was like Whoa the rent a great deal and I got broken it. Not when you're there because you're only there for one night but it got broken into and Maoists is there was at work and someone broken stole his. He had big TV and entertainment system and I had a whole set the tools all my carpenter tools. They still so that house. Where was that was that Korea tune or a pork so those were and were you had domestic life all right so then the locations of my sadness Sedillo work mark? You worked as an actor a little bit for those three years yeah maintained my sag insurance like I. I worked enough that I was was making probably a third of my living as an actor and I was getting my teeth taken care of dental. How many teeth do you have? Because you're still getting those teeth. Taken care of talks seven half Sousse every years. I have only a couple teeth that are fake teeth so you do have quite a bit of extensive dollar tangent realized that have been going on since the late ninety S. So we've got. Let's it's twenty two years. La was because I had a molar of twenty six. And I was like man. Chicago's goes great. I can just have a Burrito and a pack of cigarettes and a and like four pints of beer a day and I could afford that as a theatre actor this is where I'm living like a king and then and then in a back lower molar I just had a it just turned into a crater and and I could fit in entire pepper corn in it which is handy. If you're hiking we I mean if you need to pack spices on a long walk but it became alarming. I suddenly adulthood set in and I learn about things like medical insurance dental and so forth and I knew I had done the sundance movie in ninety six with Ben Affleck. Jeremy Davies directed by Mark Kellington bragging. Rachel vise amy low kane and others. Well the hits just keep on coming and and That Sean Indiana and everyone there like the director and the producer said You gotTA move to La. You've got a great mug. Doug put up some finger quotes. You've got a great mug. You're GONNA do terrific and I so I went home and said well you guys moving to La. I've got a great mug and but that was really. The one of the main reasons was to cash in my dental insurance and get my tooth fixed. Well I wish I gotta wish you would've told that story in Letterman. I think about saving for Letterman. That's what we always sir. We have a great story about our teeth. Save it for Letterman. We'll tell you what Dave who still has a show. Did you ever heard of athletic the older. As he still has a show but you have to need no introduction to be on it. I'm not sure how many people there are who sit that bill Still loving them and give you run for your money in the beer department. Not many who you can all right so in two thousand you play. Tell us about it. Will you know at the end of this was truly a bleak period and we were aware that we're drinking too much in fact when pat started dating courtney he quit drinking because it it was a clear problem and and so he gave up drinking which was an has stuck with it which I really admire And I said Said you know L. A. is not a great theater town like Chicago or New York. Chicago's little sister In the theater theater department but nonetheless that's what I built my life upon doing theater and so I just to save myself self. I need to find a play to do or I'm going to end up failing and probably moving home to Chicago and so I told all my friends. I need to find a play and these champion casting. Directors Nicole are boost. Oh enjoy Dixon said. Hey We know of a play. This cool company called the evidence room I think they're just called evidence room which I always found disagreeable so I I will obstinately call them. The evidence awesome but they This guy named Bharti. Lorenzo was producing. This play called the Berlin circle and they said You you know you might find this to be a great incentive. We have Megan Mullaly from the hit new TV. Show will and grace. And I said I live in dirt basement with no television so I have not seen the program and frankly I'm a theater snob from Chicago so I'm not interested in working with TV. V Lady I perform works of Literature on the stage and stay this crazy wrongheadedness. It's like a defense defense mechanism especially in Chicago to give yourself permission not to move to La or New York. You looked down at both of them but I auditioned auditioned for the role and it was an East German soldier who had monologue comparing his Phallus to his anus. So of course I got the part art was perfect for it and and we met. Yeah that's where we met two thousand doing this play her. I see the plane and that's when everything turned around for the worst or the batter very much for the better doc. That's when I mean I- i- confidently think that It actually saved my life because I I was drinking too much and and Smoking two packs a day using Intoxicants toxicants to mask the pain of perceived failure. He Nick Guess Switz- just around the corner The grocery store well that too but Valentine's Day Valentine's Day I love making love on Valentine's Day because it is a day. "For an audition for the College Dance Department and while I was hanging out in the hallway during her audition I ran into a couple of theater students and I can't remember how in the world I happen to strike up a conversation with them. They must have said. Hey Kid you can't be hanging out here or something but it came out. Ah since and I said what do you mean. What does that mean and they said we? We studied theater acting in plays and I said well then. What can you get a job doing that? And they said yeah in Chicago for example or places like New York or London you can be paid to perform plays and that was my helen. Keller moment rose like like Oh and I went home and said Mom and Dad. I'm going to audition to be a theater student. You can get paid to do plays in Chicago and I mean it blew. It was such an epiphany and I gave the did it. I went and had audition and write an essay to get into this theater conservatory where they only take sixteen actors a year and looking back at how terrible it all must have been. Because I'd never done this kind of audition addition before. How did she get in she? I here's here's my guests to think about it was it was very much a regional theatre training program. So there's a lot of shakespeare their training you to go to like Illinois Shakespeare or to do more pageant based or presentational theatre styles and so when you're doing shows like that you need talent and and good actors to cast Aston the roles but you also need a few guys to carry the good looking people off stage on Palanquins and in Horse Carts and whatnot. You know if you're doing the three musketeers. You need a couple of thugs so I think I slipped and through that sort of loophole. Did you have any kind of like movement audition audition or singing or anything like that. No I mean I do think I was asked about that. And I said that I was really interested in their sword fighting department their movement department really coordinated and Good with movement and dare I say the dots and he was a fight choreographer and it's done a lot of that kind of thing but yeah. I always thought that you could have been should have pedal on more of a dance. Dance background if you'd really wanted to over. That's not me and I just started a band within the last few years for full dancing I made a joke a few years ago. Like I'm going to be a dancer. Ha Harvey laughed. Well guess what. I'm a dancer. So you never know your true calling but back to you you go to. The you. Buy In champaign Urbana. Is it wrong of me to say that. I don't like the name Champagne Champagne or the name or banner for towns specially Bandeau. I mean people get to likely was a tribe right. Wasn't that a no thing. He was more four. Oh Oh then. I don't like him. I don't know I'm thinking of Champlain. Champlain there's a lake champlain. Champagne I'm not. I don't understand why it's the name of Italian her Bana as a really sure not cute. That's like it's like town of town. Oh Yeah City yeah city turn Setina Sunny Way. I just needed to lodge a formal complaint you know and I have to say While while we're on at many of the Residents of the town college shampoo banana for perhaps because they feel better similar version but also hyphenated in it. I thought it was two different towns. It is because it's a little twin town but confusingly. It's it's known as Champaign Urbana but the college is called Old University of Illinois at her Bana Champagne so they don't they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground attitude to know how to grow delicious sweetcorn corn but God get your town. Okay all right well. I'm glad that we got those things off chests all right so you actually graduated -aduated from college owes today's hot take. I did graduate. I took a year off because we toured a Kabuki show Oh yes attack about. Let's talk about this. Nick was a member of a Kabuki Theatre Company in college. This is what I'm talking about with his ability to express himself physically. And you were on a tour for a year. We'll know that we toured weird Japan as part of the school year because our professor and director shows of Saito Sensei was getting ready to retire so so in a celebratory way of his career of adapting Shakespeare in Greek dramas to traditional Japanese Kabuki theatre style l.. There was this tour to Japan of our show and it was nineteen ninety one the first to hungry. Sorry am I right well. Yes or the first Gulf War had started sadly and so some producers said hey this anti instinct dance to war antiwar. I'd say this is an anti war against war. Were is over if you want. That's Yoko Gone John from our bed in podcast. We've come full circle. So some producers picked up the show and and we did a professional production in a great regional theater outside of Philadelphia called the People's light and theatre company in malvern Pennsylvania. We did it there for six months. We did it in Philadelphia proper then we toured. We took it to Hungary and the island of Cyprus and we were supposed to play in Transylvania for some reason big cancelled because of sesame. Vampires some Takata off too many vampires and so. We took a year off to do like a professional year of this Kabuki play which was called Kabuki Achilles and it was an adaptation of the Iliad and it Wa- It was a beautiful play. It was anti war stories of Achilles and Hector and it ended with a Kelly sang to hector basically glee. Why have I just killed you? You are as I were the same brothers. Why are we fighting? People like that and people were moved by it and and since this is partly my podcast I just want I just want to insert makes me think of these. Tom Waits lyrics that I love so much from his Song Day after tomorrow talking about both sides in a war how does God tell me. How does God choose one? Both sides are praying to the same. God how does God choose who's prayers prayers to see refuse who spins the wheel and who rolls the dice when it comes to war just makes no sense. I'm I'm MM firmly antiwar a dead horse there buddy got it and guide unlike war all right. That's part of what makes you you okay so Loud and proud focus All right so I need to know this is for me. We might even cut this out. Although this'll be the one thing that can want keep When we were on our first time to go to a restaurant and sit across from each other there and it was at that place on Franklin? That isn't there anymore. What was it called that Italian place? We got like Pizza Brad. We sat by the front window in the middle. Anyway we did it goodies. Gatti's like it used to become Spaghetti's but then they changed. It closed closed We were sitting at a table and we were talking about our past relationships and I was saying that I was open to manner women and I think you wanted to like get on board with that and so you told me a story about an interaction. You had with a male of the species as and when you're in Hungary and then since then you've recanted that statement. Please tell me real story okay. And when we were in Hungary we are you. Sure sure it was me when we're hungry. We had like a a mixture with this other theater company from Hungary and we saw production. They did they were like a street theater company. It was very hippy. And and they did a production of Romeo and Juliet but out on the street and it was actually really cool. They use no profit good part except here about their production of Romeo and Juliet. So get this last. Stop editing you so so. The Guy who has think played Romeo was was very was a very beautiful guy and and caring and the whole thing a bit of drunken puck and Dahlia. Ah We all after seeing their production which was ripping Lee. Good picture this. No the one detail that I will include is when I believe it's one tilt. Oh No no I'm cutting you off get back to the story so we all went like hung out and had a big wine party and there may have been some. Hashish is Wellington listening and we were hanging out in the park area called Avenue Avenue of heroes. I believe share incredible and Budapest and and he and I had a very friendly evening that was kind of flirtatious and and sweet and I'm not sure if he was gay or not. I don't think so. No passes were made but but I had a girlfriend in our show another actress in our Kabuki show and she was like dancing a lot with the the sort of Nick Offerman of their company sort of swore the hot guy. Well now the just the the bigger more war bruiser welcomes their guy and And so you know it was is pretty harmless but it was. I think it was sort of to answer the question. That was the closest I ever came to sort of being attracted to a guy but nothing really went down and I mean and that sort of answered the question where I was like. This is really nice and fun. And this guy's definitely beautiful but but I'm not I'm not thinking about getting up on his joint okay. So can I just tell you that at that table at Bernie knees or whatever the fuck. That place was call. Well I swear to God you tell me that Hungarian guy went down. You know bet. There's no way training get in the conversation. Asian fast talking about the women absolutely like when we first were going out. You seem so exotic you seem like something off of like a a Grecian urn like you seem like a creature of legend and so I absolutely would expect that I would have the embellished things to try and impress you as one does but I would never have made such a claim. Okay well thank. Memory is tricky. Go all right. Well I am glad that we had a public reexamination of that because I have been waiting store. Nineteen years to the bottom of that story and winning for podcast. Maybe a nineteen years. We'll have a podcast and then I can like spring it on them and it worked. I feel better. I feel like a weight has been lifted. Not that there's anything wrong with it but plenty gay as it is does without having actually had a guy hungering guy go down on you in the garden outside of Wild Party while you're traveling traveling with your Kabuki theatre company. Thank you. You're welcome appreciate.

Oh Oh then.

"Oh you mean like like arm like keeping like they're leaving for a week having someone come yeah of course i definitely would say that's a better option assuming you know the person's pests ending his your dogs and his natural environment any trainer will deal with this at some point is some dogs when they're in like on new boarding situation they're in a new environment new people new noises new place like all these things are new i know you guys seen that so they may not eat for the first couple of days because there's nerve like it's kinda like boot camp when i was in marine corps boot camp like you know guys are just doing weird shit they would never do they're like i'm just laying low trying to figure out how all the this new system not used to works so dogs can do the same thing some dogs are completely fine with it but i would say yes in general it would be better to have a known person come over and do pet sitting so the dogs and their environment nothing's really changing that much the routine they're getting up in the morning they're going in their backyard so oh my answer would be yes in general i would say it's better for your dog to do an in home sitting then like a exterior boarding somewhere sean yeah i get asked us a lot from a training aspect of course if you have someone that is with the collar it's gonna be more beneficial because the dog is actually be using the collar while you're boarding or you're out of town you know i get asked all the time about boarding dogs that i trained and of course the clients would like to board with us because they know that their dog's going to be using the collar and use the training throughout the process versus going to take your dog to a boarding facility picks up bad habits you know and you know also like nick said strange environment hadn't forgot the whole thing works it's basically a fifty first dates thing you know all over again and then had to give back situated back at home they're happy to be there so they might be acting a little out of whack there so then you have course having someone come to your home.
