"When people ask me commuter linked link creator. Yes so we do the a weekly vogue business newsletter unlinked in they were testing product last year. They wanted it to come from people rather than Like any republication our brand. Which actually now that i think of it might be part of the creator. Mindset but Yes so it comes from from my personal linked did every week. You're to publish like the most read stories from the week with a little bit more context and just plugs for both business events and things like that and So yeah the thinking as you know how can we have opened the audience. And you'd lincoln. I think it's a good bill. It kind of gets laughed out a bit. I don't know if it's done anything on the brand of four brands like there's any sort of presence there but for publications and especially trades like like we are. It's a good place it shouldn't be overlooked. I will say that With lemme we've been on all of the platforms that were not on tiktok. But we've been on twitter and instagram podcasts. In youtube for for a long time now in lincoln is the one that's growing the fastest for us linked. Didn't for whatever reason i know. They figured something out. I think that a lot of yeah. I do agree with you that there was a really good. I'll have to find it really good blog post about how someone was criticizing the lincoln ecosystem and what it feels like just doesn't going back to that word. Genuine authentic. there's a lot of weird stuff going on there or like white is linked to need to have stories. Is it probably a very fair question. But i don't know. I feel like there's something there and i think it might be a little overlooked and i think we discovered that your lincoln creator i'll take it. I label is the newsletters. Is that working Like is there a benefit there as opposed to kind of building up your own newsletter on. You know male chimpanzee clavier or one of those other tools. Yeah that's a good question. I think it has really like top of the funnel reach i. you know. i'll ultimately as a subscription and membership east of publisher. We are wanting to get people to come in and become a vote business member. And you know i don't know if it i wouldn't be able to say whether or not that's you know we've seen that drive a ton of traction there but i think it's awareness building you know. "Like way we're in a world where anyone conservative like build that attention so fast and instant in some cases very deservedly so they're bringing something that people happen to really want at that particular moment in time and so there might be something like that with with partnerships with sponsorships with thinking of brands as a platform for kind of creators and influencers and people who are able to kind of like for whatever period of time create a little bit of a gravity. Well around what they're doing and somehow connect those two things in a way that feels genuine. That's the other part. That's that i think is hard is how do you. How does it not feel like just shilling some product if you're one of these creators of right. Yeah i think that's a lot this can can go wrong And i think as quickly as that you earn that attention you can can lose it to the next person when when people's when whims and trends change and all of that and so does feel very it feels like all of this is in on the grand scheme here to stay. I don't think any brand should overlook it or think that there are above it. Because i think that that would be misguided but at the same time unlike the case by case basis it does also feel very fleeting and that sentence and so i don't know i think it's you know any sort of brand partnership there is that risk of okay people will realize like a now they're paid especially if you're doing really authentic and organic product reviews I was going to try to not say the authentic but it came out. But you know you're just doing that. Like unpaid nature of the security of your friends if you're recommending products to them and all of a sudden have a brand that's paying you to recommend their products you know that's really dicey territory and i think that's something that you know. Instagram influencers have cut like really learned. Already how to deal with. And the tiktok raiders will be the next to do so but I think that it just it just comes down to that. It factor of when a partnership works really really work. And it's worth trying and thinking outside the box and doing things that might have been outside of the brand's comfort zones. And i think on the on the creator side. It's i think there is a little bit of a an easier. I don't know if you've built up a big fan base. I think you'll you'll have a lot of runway to kind of experiment with those things and and Work with your audience to to make sure it. Does he know come from a place where it doesn't feel like he just sold out but i don't know it does feel like you know tiktok can build it all and it can also take it away. Do you think of yourself as a creator. Absolutely not i could not. I couldn't make a tiktok. Like i go in that all the time and i've never i've never post anything it's very. It's very weird. You know feeling of dissidents But yeah i was starting to feel good about my instagram following and then asked to tiktok came along. No i don't think anyone cares anymore but y- more creator right smith. We'll have to find his His secret tiktok. I don't know why don't they create has to be necessarily tiktok in the publishing world. We've talked about this. A bunch too with kind of what's going on with with sub stack and a lot of Various journalist and people kind of going independent. I kind of feel like it's all part of the same movement. I think you're right. I think that is a really good point on subst Subject where you have this like scattering of editorial talent..

"We've we've talked about this on a show with alden wicker recently into marketplaces like depop threat up and posh mark and so on and i'm curious do you sense that. These fashion brands have an eye on that. What are they thinking about. Because that's just gonna be happening independently as well. But i think that that generation is looking at at their purchasing behavior and completely different way definitely and i think this idea of like influence sir Shopping in just you know buying something because of my conditions and social media is going to. I think you know coming to a peak and just explode even more. Because you've seen it happen so organically on tiktok over the past year that in a way that i think instagram likes to think it did. But it's it's truly like could you speak to that a little more. Just explain like what's going on there for people who are not following shortly so and tiktok. It's obviously very tailored to everyone's You know what your personalized interests are. Algorithm is really just the engine that makes it so appealing and addicting and a big trend on tiktok is just to show off interior designed to show off morning routines and so and even you know there's a whole tiktok trend to say like things i bought on amazon that they cannot. I can't live without and so it's basically just you know product pushing in to my and i'm having it done my due diligence of reporting you're but i think for the most part these are not paid The brands themselves are basically playing. Catch up and i think The skin care brand. Sarah is a really interesting case. Study last year because this is a drugstore Skin care brand. That's been around forever and they've just seen sales explode last year. I think sales for a quote me directly on this. But i think it was like sales up eighty percent or something in a quarter because one of their cleansers went viral on tiktok. And there's this like suite of products that have become like if you are a skincare Fan or someone interested on on social media and you just know these core products that have become really popular on tiktok. Everyone has them and a lot of times. They are really affordable products. Your things you can get walgreens..

"It's just very consolidating market and ella mentioned carrying are just while more physician to win and have the resources to do so than anyone brand on its own and even the you know the mini. I guess you could say conglomerates Here in the us capri in tapestry. But i think it's You know just in terms of you know dui return to those like really big flagship formats in is that like the right investment. I do think that brands will start to reconsider that. Because it is just just like resource sack that i think that have been caught like brand about add to kind of rain and in a little bit. Have you been following it all. What's kind of stitch fixes growth over the past few months So the past few months. It's not not as much. I think i'm trying to think of. It seems like they've been they've been kind of like Growing quite a lot just in in the past few months I mean maybe it's kind of there's a little bit of a delay in terms of how they're reporting as a public company works but it's been interesting to think of kind of in the different tiers. I think stitch fix is a pretty unique company in the sense of their business. Model compared to the rest of the industry is pretty unique being the subscription format and. I was curious if that was something that you had studied at all and where you think that might go going forward. Yes so i think. I i remember earlier on in the pandemic i think fixed took a bit of a hit and there were struggling quite a bit earlier and i'm sure it had to do with people kind of reconsidering like what i what they need in terms of expenses and You know just going out clothes like going outside. And obviously i think you look at the the rental Startups as well..

Us and we are in the middle of fashion month. What what is your you know. This is an area that personally. I don't pay as much attention to. I'm curious i know about it. I've never attended the big shows. But what's going on this year. What are what are people doing. Yes oh really. There's not the in person shows on the season. Of course it's a really interesting time to look back as well because it was this time. Last year that Paris fashion week. Basically got stopped short. Because of the pandemic people started to fight back to their home countries and editors were disbanding as it became clear that the pandemic i think was moving from china to italy and all about is a year ago. Becoming What We Already Are

"Good morning happy thanksgiving plenty to be thankful for rural alive and kickin which is good. So today i wanted to talk about the the buddhis- original statement all beings the wisdom and virtue of the awaken one to the snus but because of our upside down views failed to see it. We talked about buddhism. We talk about saying we talk about all kinds of religions and ultimately it comes down to this this moment in time but maybe more important than that is a relationship to quite often You know as slight. Yeah go to practice this things so that these things will happen but is very difficult for us to actually swallow own existence this the whole existence of of having a whole you know usually we play our own criteria on it. You know like one. I will become Walt what. I have what i haven't A lives in competitive in comparison with other people's lives all criteria. We add add over the top ten to ten to get us confused about what life is The old teaches they. They tend to tell us. Basically everything's okay all you know so. That's the first thing intrinsic pa. Everything's okay you know why. Why make any more work than than the life that you already live in and then others I'm more concerned with method. You know so. Many people will get confused over those two. Things seem to to be jokes poems to one another you know ultimately in our own life it comes down. you know. he's the. Are you satisfied with the life that you have is this okay. I mean if you satisfied. There's not an awful lot of work that needs to be done. No matter how deep or shallow you feel your understanding. Is you know if you feel that this is complete and is not an awful lot to be taken care of and you can appreciate the the life the life that you have doesn't doesn't matter about the the whole tra paktika all of the buddhist teachings all of his n teach and they really don't mean an awful lot because that just additions or descriptions of the life that we have all movement towards the life that we already have this point in time This morning i was thinking about. You know i was thinking about this. And i was looking at a call on to to sort of illustrate the because it'll get it gives us you know slightly different sort of perspective on life so this is from the the gate lewis gate soon. Apricots and Cucamelons

"Going to start out with what's for dinner with to like really wacky things I write these are wacky. What's for dinner items? And the first one is unripe apricots. Yes I wish everybody could see the face that C. L. is making right now unripe. Apricots are almost as interesting as ripe apricot. I would say I look forward to them even more. You can do things with them. That are unexpected and unexpectedly delicious. Anybody who has an apricot tree knows that when that green fruit forms if forms in great abundance I mean the branches get so heavy they practically pull down to the ground so you have to get in there and prune out some of that fruit remove some of that fruit in order for the tree to be able to ripen. What's left and then you've got all these green apricots and you're thinking. Well what do I do? It seems like such a horrible waste and there are two things that you can do with them. That are very tasty. The first is that you can make a really good pickle out of a green apricot. I advise you to cut the apricot and half I dig out that seed and then do the pickle. You don't have to but it makes it easier to eat. Once you've finished pickling but the real reason I love unripe. Apricots is because you can make the most delicious. Looker out of them. I can't even. It tastes vaguely like apricots. But it's not fully developed with the sweetness if you've ever had you may shoe. Which is the Japanese liqueur. Made from unripe plums that particular plum is very closely related to the Apricot? And that's the best description of this flavor that I can give you. I look forward to making it every year and I tell you it's just it. I'm speechless that good. Well well regain your voice for a minute because I have a question and that is how big are these apricots when you take them off the tree house. Big AN UNRIPE APRICOT. Are we talking about? We are talking about between an inch an inch and a half and what you do. Is You take a needle and you poke holes in each apricot and I know that sounds like a lot of work but it is absolutely worth it and then you stick it in a jar with vodka and you let it sit there for you know I forget six weeks or something and then you it off and you combine it with a just a very little bit of simple Syrup and it is refreshing alcoholic sweet tart delicious on its own used as a cocktail mixer. I will bring you some the next time I see you. And it's a precious liquid. So that tells you how much I love. You absolutely can hardly wait. Now Tell me could you do the same with unripe peaches because I know a lot of people who have peach trees that need their fruit thinned for the same reason you probably could? I'm sure the flavor would be a little bit different and I don't know I've never done it with peaches. I don't have access to unripe peaches but I do know that peach leaves. I've made peach leaf wine and liquor before they give you a nice almond flavor. So I think it's worth trying now. I have to find somebody with a peach tree and recommend that their fruit needs thinning. Oh and by the way. I'll take the fruit. I'll dispose of that for you. No EXTRA CHARGE. Well in terms of Wacky. Let's talk about the Cuba Mellon because this is an heirloom vegetable. I guess you'd call it. Yeah that is so cute and it is so sweet as well. I am by sweet. I mean charming in the way that it grows not Sweden flavor the Q. It's also called Mexican. Sour Gherkins or mouse melons or miniature watermelons Mexican sour cucumber. There's a million names but basically they look like teeny tiny watermelons. And if you've got kids you've got to grow this. Vine because kids are charmed by these little cooper melons and they taste like cucumbers. They're a wonderful cocktail garnish. They are cute in a salad. You can pickle them any number of ways that you can use coupon Mellon. I Love Cuba melons and the first time I had them. I did not realize that they were related to a wild edible so tell me the genus and species of the Mellon Molo three escape okay. So mellow three is the genus and MOLO THREE OF PENDULUM. A slightly different species is the creeping cucumber that you can forage for and very restricted parts of this country. You find it mostly in Florida a little bit. Maybe in Texas Louisiana Alabama and it looks almost exactly like the Kuka melon. It doesn't have the quite the pretty variegation on it. But it's very similar in flavor and in growth habit and I didn't realize until just now when you said mouse melon that it was a close relative of this forage -able plant so I love that. I learned something excellent excellent. Well I I WANNA give people a little clue about planting this because this in many parts of the country you see. You are planting this now but if you haven't planted yet and you think oh. I'm going to have to wait till next year. No you aren't. You can go ahead and plant this. In fact being a heat loving plant it's could not to put seeds in the ground too early so you can still have time to grow this plant the vines get to be about five or six feet tall so very good in a small for a small trellis or how where we grow them. Is We have a fence to keep the Bundy's out of a certain section of our vegetable garden we call it the bunny been and we grow Q. Milnes on the outside of the bunny been and as I say. The little tiny yellow flowers are just adorable and the vines are at the right height so that children can pick those little cucumber like fruits and they look like miniature watermelons and you'll just have so much fun with this plant

Conflicting accounts sowed confusion about Lincoln Memorial incident

"Lincoln Memorial. And if those of you who have some insight on it. I would invite you to lead the conversation because this this is another example, I think of where the national news media sometimes jumps on a story without doing all the research that they need to do. Now. I am not an expert in this story. But I have spent much of the day trying to listen to a variety of reports and try to figure out what the heck went on here. Perilously? On friday. There was the the annual March for life in Washington DC, which is a big anti abortion rally. And there were a lot of young people involved in the March in including young people from Catholic high schools around the country, including a Catholic high school in. In kentucky. Covington Catholic high school, which I'm told is a suburb, and if you ever flown in Cincinnati, I think the airport for Cincinnati technically in Kentucky. It's right on the Kentucky Ohio line. So anyway. As the story broke over the weekend. There was the indignation because the first video snippets that everyone saw was a group of students from this Catholic highschool in come in Covington Kentucky. Who were face to face with a native American. A gentleman who was pounding on a drum and it looked like a pretty ugly scene. Many of the students were wearing make America. Great again hat. You know, the red Trump hats mega so called mega hats. And it sort of that little snapshot or that video snippet in the minds of many people just. Stuck out and really encapsulated appear demised what they are concerned about. And that is intolerant. Young people wearing make America again, make America great again hats. It's a matter of fact, a congressman from Kentucky whose name is John Yarmuth. He wrote I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of teenagers wearing mega hats until we can figure out what is going on. They saved. They seem to be poisoning. Young minds. He has a second bite in which he says the conduct. We saw in this video is beyond Paul, but it didn't happen in a vacuum. This is a direct result of the ratio racist hatred displayed daily by the president of the United States who sadly some steak for role model. Now these were. These were emails that came out yesterday on Sunday say say, I think that this this video went viral on. On saturday. And it shows a teenager who appeared to be smirking smiling standing very close to within the, you know, what would you consider to be the personal space of this gentleman from Michigan who is a native American who was simply banging on a on his drum and. This. This appalled. Many people. They went to quick quick judgment. Again. This fellow. Representative yarmuth. The president's fans seem more upset by. Later in the day. He kind of retracted it he said the president's fans seem four more upset by my quote, parentheses obvious close parentheses joke about banning hats than they were. When the president said, literally the same thing about banning actual human beings. Go figure then he has a quote from Donald Trump. And then he goes on to say, and if there was any question, I'm a passionate supporter of the first amendment. I will always defend the right to wear maga- hats, just not the un-american policies they represent so as the day went on this guy backtracked. He represents the third congressional district in Kentucky. Which is the the the congressional district next to Covington Kentucky. The congressman from that district. He was a democrat is a Republican named Tom Massie. Said his discomfort with the initial narrative was why he initially withheld judgement. He praised the students for their restraint. He goes, the owner will intolerance students have Covington Catholic school came to DC to advocate for the born. And to learn about our nation's capital, what they got was a brutal lesson in the unjust court, ah public opinion and social media mobs, this member of the house goes on to say of now watched over an hour of other videos from four different cameras of the incident in front of the Lincoln Memorial. I urge everyone to watch the other videos before passing judgment. Would you have remained that composed at that age under those circumstances? So essentially, the the full story is that this group of high school students after they participated in the March for life. Parents were to reunite and meet their buses near the Lincoln Memorial. And while they were there. There was a group of what's called black. Hebrew, israelites. Now, look if Washington there's all sorts of small splinter groups now, the the black Hebrew Israelites are called racist and becoming more militant by a source. No other none other than the southern poverty Law Center. So they called the black supremacist wing of the Hebrew Israelite movement spreading, and it's Milnes growing increasingly of its leaders are growing increasingly militant now this group apparently were heckling the kids with the from Kentucky a many of them had mega hats on a good sampling of the group had the red easily identifiable maga- hats, the native American gentlemen. His name is Mr. Phillips happens to be a veteran of the Vietnam war. Actually said that he interceded that he walked wanted to stand between the groups and beat his drum and use that as basically a noise, which would drown out the language that was going back and forth. And there might have been some language from the students towards the black. Hebrew, israelites. They the black Hebrew Israelites were utilizing language that I heard on the tapes that I watched that we're very anti-gay and very very vitriolic. So the the story goes out and who's to blame, but these kids and now it turns out that the kids actually the only sin. The only thing they did that was wrong in the minds of some was wearing a make America great aware in make America. Great again, hats and that encapsulated in the. Minds of some including a congressman from Kentucky everything that they thought that is that's wrong with the country. This was a rush to judgment. And by the way, the media jumped on the rush to judgment, including CNN. Now, there are other media members who are now apologizing for their rush to judgment. One journalist. Julie Irwin Zimmerman rights, I failed the Covington Catholic test next time. There's a viral story. I'll wait for more facts to emerge, and there are others. So my question to you is if you have seen this video if you are familiar with this story, what does it say about our news media? They are very quick very quick to rush to judgement and in this day and age again of the twenty four hour news cycle individual goes up and people respond to it very quickly. We're have the media where the people in the media who will actually take a step back and say, let's get the whole story where had they gone six one seven two five four ten thirty triple eight nine two nine ten thirty. And the do these students these high school students in specifically this one high school junior who was singled out do they deserve an apology. I think they do. I doesn't appear to me that they did anything wrong in this

"They cooked it and they wind up with about one to three weight percent water, right? So I said, oh, cool. There's water right there in the sand dunes Mars. You know. Now, of course, there. Also water ice all over Mars. So water is going to be a lot easier on Mars than the moon, that's for sure. Nice. But the the answer you guys technologists wanted to design something where they could easily dig into a sand. Dune, cook it in boiling water out. So we just recently will working on a simulant that will produce one to three weight percent water out of the same chemistry mineralogy of rotten s on Mars, I. So that's a very specific similar. You look at the moon in the night sky. You see the dark areas. You see those bright areas. Well, those dark areas are just basaltic lava flows. I mean, the same stuff that's on the news right now coming out of the granite Hawaii, right? Yeah, same stuff is that's those dark areas on the moon. All right. And so a lot of iron, a lot of magnesium on the moon, something called a titanium and a mineral called ilmenite. So you know, everybody knows about titanium. You know that stuff strong. You see it advertise on TV. Well, if you want to do a process to mind the dark air. Of the moon or the Mari regions. Those lava flows. Now you're gonna need a different simulant. Then you would say for the polar regions where NY you're talking about the bride areas of the moon. So you know, you look at the the bright airs moon, and that's not lava at all. That's it's a felt Spa-, thick mineral call the north site. So a lot of calcium and aluminum as the the basaltic were mostly iron magnesium and things like that. So the stimulant businesses kind of tricky because sometimes Nasr's really interested in the moon for a while. And so we'll see we'll we'll think about moon stimulants and then sometimes NASA interested in Mars for awhile and so we have to come up with Marcia Milnes. Right? And there's there's not just one simulant for the moon and one simulant from ours. There's all sorts of similar for all sorts of processes. And so that's one of the things we do at the Astra materials. You know, we have the mar- scientists that are actually doing the experiments right now on curiosity, right in our building. And so I worked with them to find out, well, what is that chemistry and what is the mineralogy. How can we find stuff like that here in the United States and make it available to articulate just so it's it's pretty fun project. It's a great mix of science and engineering. Yeah..
