"And so yeah. I mean even though i personally wasn't renamed by principal. I mean i've i've always had to deal with being called the wrong name. You feel like there's been a shift in the las maybe like decade or two where Like this maybe it's coinciding with like this surgeon as number identity be more prominent in our pop culture books in their inner movies near film tv. Where people are are now like. 'cause i remember as a kid. There were friends who had asian names as early taking on english names just to either defeat in or just as part of their identity and it seems that there has been like an inversion of that lately. That people are more. I guess For lack of a better word proud or have our pride in their cultural identities. I mean have you seen that shift in your world as well as a book writer i have. Actually there have been several picture bucks that come out recently. I think starting several years ago with the name jar. Which is about a young korean girl who you know immigrants. The united states and her classmates think her name's too hard to say and they put all these names onto a jarred want her to pick one but she ultimately decides that she's going to stick with her you know original true name And then more recently. Your name is a song. Your you know and other picture books like that. I think it's great that we're sort of reclaiming our names because they tie us to our heritage and there's such a huge part of our identity which is not to say that you can't rename yourself. I mean if you feel like your name doesn't suit you and by all means renamed yourself take power over that but it's completely different when someone else does to you. Definitely i wanna talk about the chinese that you write in your book. The mandarin you spell out a lot of the phonetics phrases and as someone who does not speak chinese. Read chinese not familiar with mandarin at all. It was a really interesting experience to me. 'cause like half of half of the things that may lawns mom would say. I'm like i have no idea what she's actually saying. I'm relying on the translations but As an asian american. I'm like that's probably not one hundred percent the translation of what the actual phrasing is and i'm just thinking about the young readers who are reading this book who kind of have to like rely on context clues and that's really something that's a new development. I think in children's books because a lot of the times Publishers will say you have to italicized the word you have to have a glossary and your book doesn't really have a glossary other than like the prophetic sayings that may longs mom gives so many forward like was four word. What stadium. yeah. My dad loves using those. Is it really. It's just it's the way they learn like originally from a confucian poems teachings right like they're like more role idioms that parents used as shorthand for like. Don't do that. I love that you had those in there also had the glossy ends like this is what the absolutely mean this is. What the mommies when they when she says. These forward on idioms yeah. I think that meant a lot to me to include them in painting because milanez is going up in bilingual household. Much the same way. I did and so i. The readers perhaps confusion about reading some of them not understanding what they mean. Kind of mirrors. milan's own confusion. I think in the book. you'll see that. Sometimes she just goes really frustrated with her mom and she's like just say what you mean. I don't know what this means because it's marvin said they're based on these old stories or you know it's shorthand for for these cultural touchstones. I guess that she has no idea about an. I didn't either as a kid. So And i wanted to include those. Because you know it's sort of more realistic. I think of a bilingual. How did you have to ask your parents for more. More of those I'm guessing that you didn't know all of them at the top of your head. I didn't. I didn't see my parents have gone now. I would've loved to have asked them but there are some wonderful books. That are all just about these chinese idioms and rather from and i had a ball looking through that and just try to figure out there once. They're sorted by animals. Or you know. Idioms about planned it idioms about money and it was really fun to sort of you. Puzzle it to wants attorney drama especially the trains period drama. They speak exclusively in these idioms. Thousands i don't sound so difficult because it's you're processing what they're saying but are they really saying this. It's just a lot of mine game tricks that i feel like. Adm's is something that i have never really grasped even as an adult. I struggle with boasts like english idioms and creamy deums. Because it's just like when you're growing up here and your parents don't speak english or english fluently. You go to school. And they're saying all these any ems and you're like. I don't know what that means. I have zero contacts for this. Like no one has said these things to me like growing up and then the same thing with my korean idioms like my career and family. I don't know what that means. But i'm guessing that this is what you're saying and that brings me to the point with logan because there's a scene where logan and may line they're talking about like what their mom says. What would both our moms say. And they're like. Oh i guess moms have the same language because it matter what idiom there spewing. It's pretty much saying that exact same thing Exact same message of. Don't do this. Yeah i found that fascinating. Actually there are idioms different languages and on the surface. The literal translation is really really different. But the meaning of it is the same you know. I think the one that logan in milan are talking about. You're referencing is in chinese literally. It means treats alright means like with what is it can't remember now but it's something about not being a boat anymore right. Like trae isn't a boat and it's just kinda like it is what it is. You can't change it anymore. And logan mom says like it is what it is. And that's you know her idiom. All parenting is exactly exactly. We all try to use the same things on our kids to get them to behave. O i wanna bring about one of the heart of the book is Milan's relationship with their grandfather and i- thousand other things that i also really related to because like my grandfather was also a veteran woodward war two not the vietnam war and like i didn't know about historic until very late and i hear of them from my mom and i thought it was just really. It's such a we talk about this a lot. Where a lot of times are immigrant parents. Don't wanna talk about where they came from because either hard or because they don't think it's interesting. They don't think it's needed right. You don't even know about our homeland year here. Now you learn about your current homeland rate and but then you know our parents grandparents are getting older. We don't ask them. They'll stories disappear. And i love that. That was also a central theme in your story as well as milan kind of getting past insecurities about asking her grandfather about something that she's not sure he wants to talk about.

"So here's how it works big. I'm gonna run a couple of stories by you, you tell all of us at this is anything or not something worthy of our time worthy of a discussion. Or if it's crap we all move on. Is this anything the ladies on the view actually discuss the conspiracy theory that president Donald J Trump travels with a Melania Trump body double this? What there's a conspiracy theory out there that there's a Malania body double like a stunt double and the president actually traveled with bat. This is insane. Check out the response that Melania's rep I gave and this is pretty good the fake Malania online. Conspiracy theory is back. Some people think that the first lady is using an impostor to stand in for her. Look at the photos that are being posted. My that one does not look like sorry. I wasn't going to go along with this. But that one in that picture doesn't. Now, you will now it's a different shaped face Malania is not a very tall statuesque woman and the one that we saw she looks kinda short short. She loves wearing. But she's she's like. Yeah. Toe-to-toe with. Is it does it catches on? Because when there's a rumor like this, a means all over the place, I think catches on because there's an element of truth to the idea that she doesn't want to spend time with. Coming up next on the view, Alex Jones. Now, they're is rep actually replied to this line of discussion on the view hammer. This went beyond the petty mean girls spirit that we've grown accustomed to on the view. Let me read solid Milanez rep said that their discussion, quote wind beyond the petty mean girls spirit that we've grown accustomed to is that not the best response ever. The first lady is accustomed to mean, girls stuff. This is where we're at in two thousand this is Ron one of the things. Trump tweeted about today. The fake news photo shopped pictures of Malania, then propelled conspiracy theories that it's actually not her by my side in Alabama and other places they are only getting more deranged with time that was Donald Trump's response to this whole thing, and it's pretty goofy. I can't believe they're having a series discussion of lapenne. But then again, it's on the view. So it's pretty much par for the course, that's kind of what they do is this anything Lori Laughlin, and Felicity Huffman who were arrested by the feds as part of this big college. Missions cheating scandal. Laurie. Of course was aunt Becky on full house, Felicity Huffman was on desperate housewives. It is married to William H Macy. It's tricky to ban them altogether is crazy that a great Joyce using training. We asked you asked whether the way they almost because I don't think. Jeffrey now is that we are going to return to we're going to seek some opinions from people in the sport over the next week. Certainly I mean briefly on that they're always being calculating writers having their from on Qatif, injuring they've written as if they've had power meters. You know, the just a certain style of writing suppose, and it leads onto, you know, one of the points you made at the turn of fronts. This year was the the course is secondary to the basic fact of grunter enter franchising is the claimer don't generally win. It's an exceptional year when claimer wins a grand tour is generally had time trial win grant. This course looks like one design for well. In particular, a group of French writers. Wh what's your reaction to the course? And how does it compared to previous years? I think I think it's because it's the perfect consumption. And stuff on conform is very classical. We're going to get him. Yeah. He's also very famous and traditional classic trying. We're going to do. In Sunday Chen, or the all all this is familiar to going to a gun. Familiar, and so that's the all school for something. And in the same time where you know, there's the tenants center shorter stages specially in the mountains. So that's nice and also the disbalances critter is really looking for what three twelve more mountain stages in those are in the message salt Hasso he said himself that he thought strike the right balance between the false Nazis. So in this way. Yeah. The the state is in the specially look at plaza. Seniors not become a classic. Thanks to predominates is obviously mountain likes very much. Remember that used to spend his holidays there when he was young. Maybe that's the emotional psyching loving, the boy, you know, choosing to go back there intriguing. The stages to set the stage to such a general in the but you some others. You say the finish is obviously not to hold thing. It's also looks like predom- because he doesn't like to time trials. He always said he wasn't Greg fan of Charles. So so he's he's still is true to his his desire to to have fewer time trials and in the tour as we've seen in the best, even when you just talk trial. You seem don't really have time win the tour. So will it affect outcome, Missouri? Raise this year to be on this as you say we have home about where the diversion left with people will finishing floors. What we're Warren doggy when a stage, he's the French Rogers. I think is if you really look at the cost it's another one for teams guys, and it probably from so two nine saints on the basis of the cost on the Friday would be from our. But I think again the team to beat the one probably doesn't like the cost would be with. So it's all time trialing there for we carry on looking head to the the Tertre fronts next year. Tomorrow, we've got special treat coming for people. Something a little bit different cover Churchill and Kira mcvitie who've been keeping export diaries for us this year for friends of the podcast. And by the way, the final installment of s bar will be released next week. And it's really good. But they also went off to the red hook criterion. The thinks we'll criterium in Milan recently. And they've produced an episode that we've called the cycling podcast new brakes, and it's captured some of the the flavor of the atmosphere of red hook and Milanez are seen the some of you will be familiar with another's will not be familiar with the fact hole..

"Organ touched by a social media don't put cost now onto a topic. We've all been cheering over for the past year. At least it's a year since me too. And most of the world has been dissecting and critiquing masculinity ever since we've been thinking about masculinity and the male fightback masculinity and sex. Masculinity inquiry identity. And of course masculinity and violence. But what about masculinity? And the responses to me too, we have from people moving this conversation forward and find out whether this watershed moment actually means something in lives of people all over the world. But firstly wanting to look at how did we get here where joined in the studio by Rachel Porter's been watching this story closely stones, we need to run down Rachel remind us how to be get here. Well, the origins, what the time line. So the metoo movement was actually created by blah advocate, a Newt worker Toronto Burke in two thousand six. The movement has always been from the beginning about the survivors of sex. Violence particulars and women of color. Then on October, the fifth, two thousand seventeen in New York Times published a report against Hollywood mogul. Harvey Weinstein, ravine claims of rape or sexual harassment of dozens of women. In the wake of this actress Eliza Milano helped popularize the term with with the tweet urging people to write me too. If they've been sexually harassed or salted that is when things exploded. So yeah. And after that, it just went viral and did things just noble within a few days of Eliza Milanez tweet, Facebook reported that forty five percent of users in the US at least one friend who had posted me to on their time line this time line included but was not limited to high profile posts from several Americans. Lefties included including Jennifer, Lawrence Imma Thurman, and of course rose McGowan. There was also another movement called time's up, which was against sexual harassment and was founded on January first, two thousand eighteen of the back of this by Hollywood celebrities in response to the. Weinstein effect and me too as a February two thousand eighteen. It has raised twenty million dollars for its legal defense fund and gathered over two hundred volunteer lawyers. Pretty amazing. Again, this isn't just America. Is it? No, no, no. It went global trend in at least eighty five countries everywhere from Japan, South Korea, Kenya, Russia, Vietnam, and Sweden. Just to name a few. Many countries created their own versions of the metoo phrase, so Spain. It became your tambien in France. It became exposure pig in Italy. It other that. Initially, it was that time when it wasn't just the movie industry join. So either the breadth of the campaign covered incidents across loads of other industries bought medicine, academia fashion, the military finance church, and of course politics and the man himself Trump the meaty movement hasn't been without its controversies. They has it. Well, there have been instances of things like we had Catherine do nerve denouncing the metoo campaign. The actress is among nine thousand nine Frenchwoman who signed a letter in Lamont and Jemaine Greer used win djing in reference to the metoo movement. She's lost her way. There isn't to be. You could say that some people might say that. Very quickly around the same time in a count of a woman state with comedian as Eason. Sorry was published. This is incredibly divisive and resulted in opinions being split amongst many people, men and women and created an interesting discussion around a very, very complicated area. Interestingly Toronto, Burke who I mentioned earlier also went on to tell the Atlantic that me too is now too broad and has strayed too far from its original intent, and this doesn't just affect women, right? Absolutely. Not as a result of me too. Many men are coming forward to talk about their stories. The most high profile case so far has been Kevin Spacey, of course, not all the alleged perpetrators of men in this kind of situations. Only very recently Asia Gento who's previously accused AVI Weinstein of sexual assault has now herself allegations of sexual assault against which is very quickly created a very complex narrative for many people who are struggling to understand it, but. Let's put all this into context. These are just small examples of a huge movement over an entire year. And overall, this movement has been really, really positive. It's been amazing fact, it's now about how things will evolve and whether this weather it retains momentum. Thanks so much. That was Rachel porter in the studio..
