Breland Talks Country, Hip Hop And Protests
"The music video for the hit song. My truck starts off like mini country music videos, country star Sam honey with a wide brimmed hat walks through a cloud of dust. Yoke and drank my leg. Come you. Can Take Mama and Yuka small. Schools these horns you can say you hate me you. Down to my truck. Then a young black man appears wire brimmed glasses and a huge grand shoves him out of the frame. Out. At the start of this year, he was just a recent college graduate trying to break into music then truck up and the song hit number one on spotify viral fifty chart back in February. The music video now has over twenty four million views and counting religious music defies definition. He's country trap hip hop aren be and so much more, and he joins us now from his home in Nashville to reflect on his music and his life as part of our series on how artists are reimagining and reflecting the current moment in their work. Thanks so much for being here. Thank you for having such a glowing introduction to bring you with me everywhere now. Oh Yeah I'll do it. So you're a recent college Grad, writing songs trying to break down the doors of the music business, and then all of a sudden you're going viral with this country song what what was it that actually got you to try your hand at Country Music Just. Always trying to do things that I think can can push the boundaries. I don't like to feel stagnant. So this was kind of came about kind of a challenge show in the studio with with some friends of mine, and we were kind of talking about the new wave of. Country Crossover records that had been that have been coming out like Old Town road and I was just like I feel like I can make a song like that and it would be pretty dope and they were like Nah man you can't make like that and I was like, okay challenge accepted so. Just started. Working on it and was able to come up with something. I guess that that stuck with people you've mentioned other artists like a little gnaws, of course, with Old Town road We also know though about the massive debate over what country is and who country belongs to. What is country to? country to me is a genre of music that is really just defined by strong songwriting and storytelling I think anyone can can make it. I think anyone can you know their based country music stars who are from? Other countries you know between. Fine and have been there some others, and then it really just comes down to the music and then whether or not people accept you I want to deepen that a little bit though because the New York Times reports that my truck isn't really picking up steam on traditional country music stations which are known to be pretty conservative. Do you even about that? I mean it would be it would be nice to have gotten more country radio support I. Think like Sirius Xm, the highways played it a lot. But in terms of traditional country radio, I don't think we got any spends I was hoping when I put Sam Hi on the remixed that would have probably validated it a little bit but it wasn't quite enough and I I understand it though because if you listen to country radio, it's. Tends to be wide dudes over forty so. For me to be a twenty five year old black dude. I, have a song, eight hundred weights and like hip hop production on it like it would've been a lot different than what was currently being played. My thing is if all of these country music fans are these a lot of them who are under thirty for example, are also listening to like drake and Migos, and even like our day and those cat, why do they have to leave the genre to get their fix of like bars and like hard beats like I feel like? Especially, with after after my truck came out I, realized that audience needs music and I know how to make it and I can I kinda stand in my in my own lane and help carve out a sub genre of music that speaks to the millennial modern country fan
Takeoff, member of Migos, is accused of rape in lawsuit
"Takeoff from Migas has been a accused of raping an unknown unnamed woman in a at a party in June and Los Angeles. Now, this lawsuit says she was invited by their D. J. He was staring at her the whole time. She didn't like it, she told the deejay walked away, went upstairs to the DJs room and laid in his bed. The deejay and takeoff exchange. Words, then take off walked into the room. It happened immediately after she sought medical care at a nearby hospital for sad quote, observed visible evidence of rape. On the LAPD has on open investigation going. They did not comment any further. But, uh, I mean, she went to the hospital read afterwards, she's filing a lawsuit. It's literally two months after it happened, Not maybe a little over a month since it's happened, So it's not like she waited it so it doesn't look good. They're going right away for medical treatment. Is that going I know that that's really leans towards her argument. You watch law and order s view as much as I do, And that's what they always say. Well, why didn't you go get help right away. She's she did. Yeah, There's a lot of graphic details about it. I don't want to go too far into it. But if you want to read the full report, it's on our Facebook page. As you know, four fans So
Matt Dillahunty & Scott Clifton: Christian Husband and Atheist Wife
"Let's try Josh in Tennessee. Area There Josh. Hi, this is Josh. You're almost got mad. How are you josh? Hi. I'm. Just wanted I. Actually my life wanted me to call in she's. She's an atheist. I'm. I'm a Christian and so you know. so she's she's. She's really on top of her. Bible, knowledge and And so we're always kind of you know. She's trying to prove God and I'm trying to prove that it's it's the. So her. Yeah I just I just kind of I kind of feel like there's so many. Different personal experiences with with God. that that kind of Kind proves that. That he does exist and Even, we can't see him. But we can certainly. Feel that he is, he's around and in my opinion. How would your wife respond to that she? Basically. Just says that. You got to prove it. and. You mentioned you mentioned personal experiences. You mentioned personal experiences with God I'm wondering if you could give an example of a personal experience with God, and how you know that it's a personal experience of God, because there are people who claim personal experiences with all kinds of gods and with alien abductions and other. How do we know that because you've experienced something that you think is an experience with God that you're right? Prayer and just going kinda going through the motions. Basically, it's you know when obviously everyone has their hard times and everyone has has good times, and I'll let me fallen on hard times. Read you know we. Just. My personal experience I've. You know there's there's You Know God is always proven himself to. You. Know to help me. In the end. So any struggle that had. been really me down completely but I've always. Came out better on the other side yeah. So I understand what you believe happened when I was Africa's. How can we know that's what happened like? You think that God has helped you God spoke to you and you've had some experience God's help you in trying times. How do we show that that's true? Not just you think that God has helped you in those trying to. Well, it's I guess. It's. You. Get that feeling I. Don't know you ever heard of. God bombs like Kinda like the. migos! was bumped channels. You just kind of just get that overwhelming feeling that he's there and yes, so for the record I'm a former Southern Baptist who was going to be a preacher, and who has stood in church, and while praising and singing I've had God bumps goosebumps. EUPHORIA BEEN ECSTATIC convinced that I was in the presence of Holy Spirit. But that's what I was convinced at the. And when investigating and it turns out that I can't demonstrate that that was true. There's no good reason to think it was true. So a couple of occasions here of asked you. How would you know that this is true? And you just keep coming back with the you're convinced. I mean how could all all? It's got jumping because he may have a different take on this but Hawkins. Scott and I know that when you experience God, you're actually experienced God, and not just saying you're experiencing go. I guess that's based on on. You know it's a I would say we you have the. Believe in the Bible and I consider the Bible history, but it's. Don't did all the way from From the old Old Testament New Testament sold. It's basically basically history book. and. you know a lot of the things that? Happened in the Bible reaching kind of some. You can use in our personal experiences and. And I and I do I. Do know that my wife. I obviously pointed out the scriptures that are you know are bad and stuff like that and I get all that you know what about the ones that aren't true like when you go to genesis and the order of events in creation, don't match up with what science says. The order of events would be. Doesn't that Kinda show that that's not accurate. I'm I san as far as you know but we really don't long. What really happened in the beginning? So I mean, but we know there was never a time where there was one man and one woman whose names we knew who were. The originators and progenitor of the entire human species. We know that's not true. Well, we don't. Do, go ahead Scott? Yes. Sure so a Josh a couple of things. Stood out in in what you said. Was that You know based on your experiences? Whenever you've had a hard time, it was God that lifted you up again. Are you familiar with? Confirmation bias this this this biased that we do where we kinda count hits and ignore the MRS, when it comes to interpreting data in light of what we already believe like like. If you're driving on the road and you have this, you have this belief that Asians are bad drivers right anytime. Somebody cuts you off and they happen to be Asian you'RE GONNA. GonNa go see see I, told you. Asians were bad drivers, but you're exploring the hundreds of times. Somebody cuts you off and they're not Asian or the hundreds of times. Somebody doesn't cut you off and they are Asian do. Do you know that that concept where we we kinda? Pick out what fits with our previously existing worldview when we ignore the rest. On my idea I mean I i. See what you're saying that. You know yeah, so. Do you think it's? Possible that the your doing that. I mean when you say that every time you've had a hard time in life God lifted you up again. Is it possible that you're remembering all the times that maybe you prayed and you felt like that prayer was answered, but you're forgetting the hundreds more times when you're having a hard time and God didn't answer you, and maybe maybe you explain that away. Away by saying God works in mysterious ways or got has a lot of people to take care of or God wanted me to learn a lesson from this, but doesn't it seem like we live in a world? That's indistinguishable from God, not existing at all. Would you be saying the same thing if you were a refugee family in in Saudi, Arabia or You see what I'm saying.

How close were they to kind of final form of migos when you encountered them you know what i mean like how far along the development where they came your way where the whole wire in tight was already recorded separately song like three songs their whole rise. People both think that there aren't these complicated stories anymore. People think that artists get one shot and then it's over now but there are stories like again like old school story the ups and downs and moments when it didn't i think it was going to happen. Let's talk about the song for saudi for a second letter for saturday still aw that song people didn't know what to think of it at first the sheer repetition the sheer energy and it became unstoppable applicable drake jumped on it. How did the drake drake seen them at the birthday bash. Your birthday banned drug ran into us at the birthday bash which is <hes>. You know a new york summer jam so i wanna seven nine atlanta birthday bashes like the big concert of summer. Everybody come and i think tank was bringing them out that day. If i'm not mistaken and brought them out but <hes> oh we had just put out wire in which the first mix tape that was put out when we sign a guys right and a tape. It only been out four days. That's when music you should drop on tuesday. We we dropped on that tuesday. Birthday bashes saturday and drake walk right up to me. It was like a coach's show group. He met him listening for the last four days and he quoted a lyric off wanted songs. It wasn't one assault that was out. You know it was like another song. He quoted who's like shays numbers. You know what i'm saying and then like a week later he reached out it was i i wanna jump on one and records and that was actually sent them to records. Yeah you know at the time we listened to records and wasn't even thinking what about him jumping oversight for the sake in another record like this directly watch and he said the barsebaeck besides coach. I think you made the point that when drake you jumped on and adopted that triplet flow that was a big moment for sound. It was such a big moment at that moment when i think that rap pattern that caters chase him up because dr been a big artists that he was shit. He's the biggest right with him coming in in adopting that flow right. I watched the whole rap culture. Take decades to a point. I i'm not even gonna like me. Peewee was getting a little angry..

"He got the style has everything that a lot of rappers rap about but he's really in it and doing it. You know what i mean. It's a life experience to exactly. You know what i'm saying his voice his voice. I always starts with a voice. When i met jesus i how hard is voice. He played a record for me and i was like who was that on the record. He's i guess me but i really rat on my damn your voices though so just kicking it. I'm fast forward kicking baby when we first started kicking him. When i met him he was younger. 'cause i always just kicking off. Some towns see what you got on your fresh today but his voice texture you know what i'm saying is voice. Tone was dope to me yeah. I think he should wrap man because a lot of these rappers telling your story right. I mean like really telling you a story. I think kind of emblematic of what you do that differentiates you from a major label signing having someone offer soundcloud numbers like it's the exact opposite coming into the game man i got together. We started our whole company on developing talent grabber artists amigos okay and we signed to me goes on to kasama hadn't really hit you on youtube it on a mix tape circuit. They were making noise. You know we we've even able to come in dan and enhance that but every other artists that we signed to after that was brand new artists. You know what i'm saying like wasn't no bidding war on when i was is like really finding it digging it find that diamond and shining diamond up you know what i mean. There's a little bit of <hes> the old motown records person that was well yeah definitely uh not even knowing that we were doing that. You know right the way they ran a company and the way we wanna companies so similar. It's amazing opportunity to see the documentary his view. He just comes out. I just premiered it like last week <hes> but it comes out this fall and is watching that documentary is kind of scary about motown by berry gordy about very he's the grace of all time but this is like a scary her company and that compensation larry yeah you parted ways with young and then you managed edged <hes> gucci men and p gucci. You're close you said like brothers my best friend yeah and that was and again. I'm sure we're skipping ahead a bunch of years but essentially actually that's how you the two of you connected with through gucci and then from what i understand motivator to start this label to start all this was the kind of the discovery of the necas yeah worth yeah of course heard about him but the first real meeting where they call the band at the time was quite well mother's house but but in the basement it was a computer sitting on a chair yeah in a basement had a blanket the booth was in a closet with the blanket in front of and i remember walking in that basement and hear some of the most incredible music i heard ever and i was so excited when i left out of there i mean go in there. I couldn't really show how excited excited that was again. It's a recruitment thing like you recruit some. It's like you can't really show excite. You make them feel but you can't show the excitement but i remember leaving about it in a game e._s._c._d..

"Hey i'm brian hiatt this rolling stone music now. I'm in the studio with coach k and p the co founders. There's of the label quality control what these guys have done in the past. Few years is pretty amazing. Basically from scratch they've started one of the most important labels and all music isic. They started with migas. They want to bring the world. Will yadi little baby city girls and a whole lot more and there's an amazing story behind how it all happened. They also also have a new compilation album coming out right now. Quality control control the streets volume two which has a bunch of established artists as well as some new artists and we're gonna talk about all of that and tell their whole story welcome guys. Thanks for being here but you've heard another think having so there's a lot to talk about. It and i know you told your story a bunch of times hate to make you tell it again but it's a good stories that we're going to do it coach. One thing i saw you say those really interesting is that you were college basketball player over the you said that sports plays a big role in the way that you treat your business when you recruit an artist. It's similar to the way that you might have been recruited to play or your friends might have been recruited you learn from that and they using this kind of paradigm everyday most definitely before music pretty much. I feel i music saved my life. Sports was everything you know play ball on my life college but yeah it's kind of similar like walking in eh sharing some artists than we would just looking at i used to why slight recruiters to recruit me and my friend was kind of a lack of a cold that they had to stand dan by the way they did it. You know it's like you wouldn't do it all in front of everybody's face. You can't alike secretly you find it then. You kind of secretly can go after you know in this business any business once. It seemed like something is warranted. Everybody's coming yeah for sure. I'm going to get to the second because the moment you intersected. Active is the moment that quality control started but because she were artists manager starting with young jesse talking about just briefly about how you encountered easy had got. It all got started. I mean i mean before i met jesus. I work with artists name pastor troy ben we had our time actually the whole story a friend of mine that grew <unk> with play ball he got dropped about hawks and he started label called hindu entertainment and <hes> i came over to a._n._r. And we ended up doing business with pastor troy from that that i started working with troy then when allen decided that was business managers basically came in and said listen this business not making any money uh-huh you know you should shut it down but at that point i was really really serious about music. You know he had a basketball career. He's multimillionaire at big contract so he we went on with his business but for me music was really something i really wanna do so started working with troy and then from there. I used to manage producers right basically hustle hustling. I'll run around to all the damn studios in a city of atlanta with my producer selling their beats and i got a call one day from a friend of mine who at the time was managing dallas awesome studio which was darcy. He's i may need to come up here. You know some young guys had been sitting up in his studio for like a couple of months in a room just spending money you know he brings some of your produces over here. You probably can come in and make some money you know and i thought about it and when i got there are medgyessy and at the time he wasn't even rapping he was actually he was a young entrepreneur..
An Interview with Jamie Bell of 'Skin'
"His popcorn where I tell you what's happening at the movies and I'm going to tell you about a movie called skin. Today you already know about a movie called rocket man. They both starred my guest Jamie Bow. I don't know when you have time your new father again. GotTa hang out with your kid true. <hes> I'm not working right now. Okay so it's all good. It's all good now. We can see by this with skin in the poster and this is a true story. I knew nothing about the story you know when I whenever the script the first time time you know as a movie that <hes> <hes> with with everything that was going on the news it was quite an century was a movie that felt very urgent yeah exactly and I felt like it. It Sean a light on something that <hes> I think ordinarily we could choose to ignore and I think any kind of normalization of this is dangerous. <hes> there's obviously a redemptive element to this and no as the phone kind of tying things up in a nice boat because life isn't like that right but we'll tell us a little bit though for those people that don't that you're playing somebody who decides basically the PAT. He took as a white supremacist is not the way he should go and how basically you get rid of that. I really love how literally he tries to get rid of that ink that stuff on his. Let's get to do it but it's a way to dramatize what he's doing what he's ripping off. I mean like the Brian wine was a career <hes> Neo Nazi that worries when when we first meet him he's completely linked up from that to <hes> and he's the way the journey the characters very much one of an unconscious man who comes to an awakening <hes> <hes> he he realizes the choices he has made a bad ones. He meets this woman who changes his life forever. She has these beautiful goes. He becomes obsessed with and he tries to get himself fat which for a lot of people who try and do that has a lot of very grave consequences but it's difficult. I think for these people to leave the ideology so strong <hes> there's almost kind of <hes> this <hes> almost an addictive quality to to to the to the families that they're in into these groups that are in most of these people are very very wayward within get involved with this <hes>. Suddenly you belong should they have. They have a <hes>. They feel like that. There's a pat on the back and there's a kind of a good job. <hes> <hes> said by somebody so <hes> yeah this. Is this the real hero the stories this guy called Daryl Lamont Jenkins. He worked for the one people's project. He is literally the people out in the street opposing these people and he can spot the good in some of these people in with an amazing sense of compassion reach out to them and and and say you know I can get you out of this if you're willing and he does US and through two years of Surgery Brian is given a gift. It's all removed from his face and and he has the potential to change his life and start again. Well we watch the movie and we can by watching the movie and watching your performance and watching how it's done put ourselves in that position kid but it's hard in the beginning with it hard for you when they said. Would you play this guy he I think so I was kind of a kind of moral see-saw for me. I like the first time I talked to the real. Brian was the dish Charlottesville for example. I remember ending that conversation with him and calling the director immediately after thinking <hes>. I don't think this is a good idea. I think this is some uh-huh feels the wrong time to tell the story <hes> also filmmaker by the way is Israeli filmmaker <hes> <hes> his yeah exactly his family went through the atrocities of the Holocaust. I'm so for him to want to tell the story and have that unique sense of compassionate <hes> that extension of kindness. I thought it was quite interesting. <hes> uh-huh and again you know when I would walk around <hes> the small town of Kingston was shot this film it would have been covered in tattoos and human nature is to usually ignore the monster next they don't. WanNa look at things that are challenging in any way or scary yeah. They look and I feel like that if we do that as a culture that's dangerous because we can radically normalize. These kinds of people and I think that's very dangerous so hopefully this film. If nothing else is going to wake up call we don't see him in a really good light in the beginning. No no no no and we're basically seeing somebody where you do. WanNa look away not just because of the tattoos you WanNa look away because you're thinking this is reprehensible bowl. What's your he's a character. In initially who is completely detached from <hes> empathy he's detached from compassionate and love from kindness <hes> he's. He's literally I think he's Com- completely lost touch with his ideology even means he's in a drunken stupor most of the time <hes> and he's he's indoctrinated by these people. I mean the the ideology that this group follow is based in kind of Viking Odin mythology which is about bloodlines and just complete nonsense so <hes> sure it was about that character finding something in this <hes> Julie Character Daniel McDonald placed finding some sense of stability and finding that there are these chasms of empathy Kathy that he has and tenderness and <hes> and suddenly that coming to the surface is a family that is kind of ready made for him knocked his family and he begins to see a bigger world through them and she's really good. She's an incredible downtown yeah yeah. That's quite remarkable. You see that through this movie I mean the performances are all spectacular that people are giving especially when you see veer for Migo Goer Bill camp or people play that people you really don't yeah I mean I gotta say especially with some like very much of that was kind of unscripted and she really just turned up and we didn't have much prep time with her at all and she just came in doing this wonderful. Three dimensional fully realized character that was really a scary to all of us the places she was phenomenal whenever I felt like literally terrified and I was meant to be the one that was scary which is great eight but it was it was a hardship I think for all of us. We all knew what was in the headlines. We all knew the kind of will that we were living in and and now important this was to portray these people the way they are and I think what about this menu playing. What was your relationship with him complicated <hes> purely because of the things he's done you know I i.? I'm someone who finds forgiveness quite difficult to come by. You know <hes>. I really liked to hold people accountable for their actions. <HES> I go meet with them. He's in the witness protection program and I spent like a week just kind of chatting to him and mostly talking about <hes> with them about stuff that wasn't in the script his childhood and <hes> you know <hes> what it's early life was like <hes> he's the other thing about him as if if you didn't know that he wants look like that. I mean ee you would have no idea that he was once covered in from I mean he has been given a gift. He's been given a new lease on life but he's an extremely paranoid person. He lives in constant fear. He's he lives in constant reckoning and that that's what he has to atone for for the things. He's <hes> things he's done. The great thing that you literally do and that we see in this is that we see somebody removed food than ink and then we wonder that gone you could take it away goes but what has to come away has to come from here and from here as well. That's only proven through action. That's only proven to <hes> but I think certainly right now. I think it's worthwhile question to ask how much compassionate we have and how far does that go and in the hope and this movie for me is that there really is <hes> the kindness of strangers people like. Dr Lamont Jenkins who might call to pleasants phone is solely responsible for getting mad at this movement you know <hes> the the money and the funds that were provided for surgery provided by an anonymous donor <hes> you know if anything that's the hope of the the move me is that there are there are human beings out there willing to extend this compassion and to say I'll. I'll extend myself if you do but you do that as an actor right when you're putting on somebody's skin no matter what part you're playing whether there's any disguise into what do what made you do this. I mean I know Billy Elliot. It is the beginning and Billy Elliot is a lot like you yeah well. He that movie exactly like me yeah. I mean anything. All of this show the old. You said yes sure it was a time when a film set for me that movie <hes> I remember being very overwhelming like God circus really did come to town and now the cameras pointing at me and this is very extreme and just really trusting got like I had no idea what I was doing this film and the decision to make this <hes> was one about really challenging myself and seeing <hes>. Is it possible to completely transform myself to degree. I'd never done before for <hes> and it was still challenging. Thing that is one of the most challenging things for me was was not holding the character in any form of judgement. That's what they always say like. ECON judge yes you difficult the circumstances of course <hes> it was important that I met him and introduced myself and everything else but then also just that that level of detachment that the character has and the reason I bring up Billy Elliot in addition to being such a seminal thing for you and what was happening to you is that you're bringing brought. Brought up this way you you've got a sister who's a dancer. You know this is. This is so much like you and yet. There's all these cameras around. I'm sure you're saying what what what my way through that movie for the first time you know but I think also me. I'd never met my father before <hes> the relationship that billy has with his father in that film is very challenging. Certainly this is a character who certainly lacked male presents a male role model and that guidance and that leadership that is looking for Elton John when he saw Billy Elliot and Ken wept he was weeping when I met him when supposedly easy in the movie version before he writes the kid when you're a kid yes exactly he's weeping. He's weeping because he his own a father <hes> he's he's passed but <hes> <hes> as if you've seen we have very good relations with his own sexuality and everything else and I think the most heartbreaking thing for him was that he never showed up to one of the show's not one so I think when Billy's father tons up into that film and tons up for his son and ED performing with the Royal Ballet School I think that really destroyed him but you know that the looking up to people in having examples and they're so crucial crucial is so important you know <hes> in this instance maybe Brian his life would have done it differently. What happens now after you meet l.. Well John Again and you're playing burnt-out movie. It's like really weird. I don't know what the next connection is very strange because obviously did the musical <hes>. Lee Hall who wrote wrote the musical euro rocket man. There's a kind of cosmic tethers to this <music> <hes> and I love that as top in it which is again antithesis to this character is such a loving supportive accepting human being and such a loyal oil friend <hes> it was really nice after doing this which is quite an unpleasant experience <hes> <hes> to play a character like that. That was just someone who so I'm lovely. So is that made you have years and years of therapy are have you been living sort of relatively normal life. I mean I would. I hope relatively normal. It seems relatively normal to me. <hes> you know I mean I think it's all relative experience but I think you know works for me is a real form of therapy. Get to play some characters from lots of different places in different walks of life and <hes> <hes> that to me is very interesting. I get to meet all the people that I'm playing most of the time with US revolutionary <hes> he's he's long since passed. Even people P turn. I did a phone call. Film Stars don't die in Liverpool with Annette Benning. He was around. He was extremely useful. Extremely love the guy to hang out with.

'Green Book' suffers from Hollywood's Common 'Magical Negro' Problem
"I know we talked about green book Schorr did. But the Oscars are this Sunday. And this will be might win best picture Lord. No Roma please let Roma win. I think we have to talk about it. Because there's one scene that I cannot get out of my mind. Okay. Which one so it's the scene were Tony Villalonga. Who is the Italian American guy from the Bronx who's been hired to drive. Don, Shirley, this black musician, two gigs. Okay. So it's a scene where Tony saves dawn from a bunch of unruly racist at a bar. I mean, I can imagine. What bothered you about that? But why bother you? This scene is meant to teach the audience that the guys that are beating up Don are the real racists. And Tony is kind of like a milk toast racist. He's not that bad of a racist. He's only ever called Don a couple of names behind his back and kind to face and the whole movie up into this point has given you the impression that Tony doesn't like black people. But the moment the movie takes you into the scene in the bar. You understand actually these are the real racist because they're capable of physical violence against someone just because they're black and Tony he's not really a bad guy after all a little bit of needing. He needs a little bit of coaxing. But you know, what he's actually on the right side of things, and you can bring him back over to the right side to the good side of history. And it's inferior eating it's infuriating Wesley. The idea that racism is only bad if it escalates into physical violence, and that's the tiny little microaggressions things that dehumanize. Is and demoralize and stereotype aren't actually really bad types of racism after all, so maybe they get a pass. Right. It feels like a very sanitize seen about racial mix that's designed specifically to make audiences fill better about themselves, and is amazing that you're bringing this up on the weekend of the Academy Awards. Yes. These same Academy Awards in which green book is nominated for five Oscars and is likely to win two or three including picture. Yeah. And you know, it's in company with movies like star is born in the favorite and vice about Dick Cheney, and of course, black klansman and Black Panther, right? Boy, if green book does win it'll be a really good company with the best picture winners of the last thirty years specifically when it comes to films about race, right? I just think America is obsessed with this sort of racial healing fantasy where there is a work that like being near. A black person can do to rehabilitate prejudice people and all that rubbing up against yelling at friction tension touching. Hugging. Driving will bring him to the light. Right. It's its own trope. Yeah. Right. What other films in the past have done this? What are you thinking about? I don't know. I mean, if we're just staying in the in the thirty year window, something like Forrest Gump. Ninety four win best picture ninety five the story of the very simple man name. Forrest Gump mom, always said life was lack of box chocolates sits on a bench and start just talking to anybody who sits down next to him about his his life. Never know what you're going to get. He winds up befriending. This other guy named Bubba Goodall. Bubba good day. You can catch pounds. Shrimp. Shrimp is the fruit of deceit. You can vote ball broad bike it so both have the same IQ. But the point is that force is the person on the journey and a person like Bubba is another step along the way. So one of which puts them on campus when George Wallace's denouncing the integration of university of Alabama. Right. And part of that sequence when Vivian Malone was one of the new black students drops her notebook on the way inside the school, the visual effects, people make it. So that forced picks up the notebook enhance it to Vivian. And it's just weird to me. Like, you realize like that like the movies about forest, not Vivian who? I would say has a much more interesting American story to tell. I country is all about and it isn't the forest gets made a better person because of black people. But it is the forest gets to look scans or not even see a lot of the problems in this country, all of which are shoulder by Jenny who played by Robin rate who is near some Black Panthers who do nothing when she's beaten up by her white piece boyfriend, the racial politics. This movie are crazy anyway, all the politics in this movie to be fair are crazy, but they all sort of benefit for his Gump the fantasy here, of course, if you're good enough and simple enough, America's racial problems can be hailed give this movie a best picture Oscar. Okay. I mean, what else crash best picture winner a two thousand six Lord. A movie. So frightening. The Geno worth refuses to watch it facts facts, only, basically, it's one of these race and racism are driving. Everybody in Los Angeles out of their minds, the Persians the Mexicans the white people the black people, but the thing that really takes me out. His you have all of these different people of different races all being nasty to each other because of race, but guess who the redeemed characters are in this movie. Oh my God. I don't even want to know, Sandra. Bullock, of course, like the second biggest racist in the movie, she gets carjacked, by ludicrous and Lorenzo Tate. Maybe I'm Alexis really tough. My think it'd be best. If you just went upstairs random, wait for them to break in. I just had a gun pointed in my favorite lower. Your voice was my fault. Because I knew it was going to happen. But the white person's he's two black men walking towards her. And she turns and walks in the other direction. She's a racist. Right. Well, I. Got scared, and I didn't say anything attend seconds later. I had a gun in my face. Now. I am telling you you're a Migo in. There is going to sell are key to one of his homes and miss time. It'd be really fucking great. If you acted like you actually gave us shit. And then what happens? She falls down the steps on a lot of pain killers or something. And decides at her Mexican-made Maria is her new best friend. I assume area wants to go home. But you know, we don't know 'cause movies out about Maria. It's about Sandra Bullock, but the real star that movie is Matt Dillon racists cop. Matt Dillon feels up Tandy Newton at a traffic doesn't like black people, but certainly put his hands all over a black woman. So she gets into a horrible car crash cars on fire cast who comes in to save the day. Hear me permissible be your. To get an extinguisher. Good that fire. Best supporting actor nomination for that gentleman. Okay. I'll get you out not Dylan approves he's not a racist because he's capable of saving some black person's life. Even after he's violated it and then driving miss daisy. Of this sort of problem. And it wins. Best picture nineteen ninety came out in eighty nine huge hit. Yeah. Better movie than you think. Actually, because I think it understands the thing that you and I are talking about right? There is something inherently impossible about black people and white people being friends at least, according to the way, the country is set up to like have both those friends be equal in the friendship. So it is a story of this old Jewish woman. Daisy were them. Sorry. This old named daisy were than related I hope. hope Not. not. Our son bully hires Hoke Morgan Freeman to drive her. And home nowhere else.

"You know, they feel will be in the playoffs. And by the way, also shutout out to James Jones, who very wisely sort of let it I don't know if he let it leak, I'm you know, all of our reporters did a good job. Finding an buddy James would say certain teams would say that. He let it leak that. He was interested in trading Reza, maybe even to the Lakers, which would get other teams sort of to bump up. There is reporting this weekend that Robert server didn't want to deal with the Lakers and all who knows sort of Migo younger new bay. I think Kelly Oubre exit a good player. Yeah. We'll have to see what happens this summer though, because he's going to want some money and entitled could even move this season. Yeah. Absolutely. All right. Let's get to the Philadelphia situation 'cause Keith Pompeii from the Philadelphia Inquirer reporting that Sixers ownership is split on what to do with former number one pick Marquel. Folks, apparently, some within the organization or most worried about full blooming into the star. They thought he was on draft night on a different team. So then. Want to give up on him yet? But if they do decide to trade Foltz, they're asking price is a first round pick. Kevin. Which would you be on? If you were there for an office. You've spent a ton of time in Philadelphia. So you are very familiar with personnel. These splits aren't unusual of teams brasses the supreme court there. Concurring opinions dissenting. Opinions dash no scandal. I think right now they need to do is assign. What is the value of Marquel? Full to the franchise. You have to forget about. He was our number one pick. That is a sunk cost us a player on their roster with some developmental issues who has great potential, and I think the question is, you know, like the other twenty nine teams the question is would we take Foltz with the draft pick that we would be surrendering. So if you're the Phoenix Suns, and you have the bucks pick. Now, it's probably going to be conveyed this year. But maybe next year it's a twenty three twenty four. Would you take Mark helpful everything, you know, about him his contract, which is a rookie deal with a pick would get Mike you an inferior player. And I think there are some of these younger teams now bursts. Round pick. No, no, only in the sense that I think a lot of the teams that'd be candidates revolts who by definition right now are lousy probably more thirty first thirty second thirty third thirty fourth pick. But I think getting serious about assessing his value to the franchises imperative before much more time on and that's what's going on there. They have to come to agreement. Was that adventure? You be on. If you were making this decision. I wouldn't do it. I I had a story last week in a guy named Ben who's oh who had the same element that folks had and basically imagine playing basketball and losing feeling in your shooting on that's essentially what happened to them ouzo is not an NBA anymore. He's he's still playing for Nigeria's national team is finding success. He's he's finding ways to get better. He wants to talk to Marco, maybe he's talked already. I think that the Sixers need to figure out whatever he did. Because it was successful. And bring it to this kid is a kid this young player. They got time. You know, try try to rehab them, and perhaps giving up on them could be a mistake. And I think the way you say that about this. On cost. I do think that's important to remember. I have a friend who would buy something to eat, and it would cost decent amount. Right. And then it would be crappy or spoiled, and they would be like, oh, I gotta eat it. Anyway, anyways, been a lot of money, then you're also spending money and giving yourself with stomach ache. It's the same idea. You can't just force yourself because you spent that first round that number one overall pick that being said, I do worry about the cost to the franchise..

"And let's say, if beats if it beats Nate and Connor, but doesn't do two million. Is it a failure. Did they have everything that was built failure in a way because pay per view is harder at the moment. Also, there's, you know, there's if it doesn't beat Nate. Connor. Is that a fit because you can. You can argue that Nate is more popular than hubby. Men expectations were here coming down here we will see. Okay, Edgar ass. What's next Valentina after her fight was called off this weekend Shevchenko you want Johanna and Valentin. I think that's also the fight to maisy and I wouldn't have said the same thing. If this had gone off. A guy who's name is m. may numbers. I wanted to hear your thoughts on t. j. dillashaw wanting to move down to one twenty five and fight for the belt there. Don't you think that he should not pick on the smaller man and challenge for that second Bill that away class above. So he saying why go down everybody should want to go up away class because he wants to make history. He wants to get the two bills and one forty five is probably a little too big. I liked the idea when it was him stopping Dimitrius Johnson's run and breaking that record. I don't love the idea now that's who tow just just one the built. Now who does division if we're not gonna do a media rematch for Dimitrius Johnson, which I don't see why you wouldn't, but if we're not, okay, maybe there's not a lot of guys that make sense. There's pet is fighting for Migo in in October. You know, there's a couple of guys, but there's nothing. Sows owes don't know who you're talking twenty five, but at one thirty five, there's an enormous amount of guys. There's Marla Mariah. There's half, oh, sons, out crews, tons of options. So I feel like it's the right time for it. But yeah, I understand why TJ doing it. And if I'm pseudo, I wanna be moving up. The fight is the blueprint. There was everything for DC to gain and everything for St., beta lose, lose that fight. He goes back to his way classy. Still the king steep a loss. He's got nothing for by its nature though. Do you have a problem with somebody wanting to go down? I don't. I don't problem because of the situation, there's always something to gain for the person coming up. I understand. Let me let me take that opportunity. So if he can make it and forty five would actually be harder on completely okay with that. Yeah, g. c. asks while may be of, sorry. Well, it may change now you'll see two to twenty eight out of the way, but do you feel the lack of promo? We talked about this. Okay. Do you think the. Romo will be affected by designs debut no, and the massive massive promo budget that they are putting behind it. Do you think that will take away from twenty nine? So I'm fascinated to see how the strikeforce that Bill to prevent that is headlined by ROY versus gig guard on September twenty ninth which is rapidly approaching holy smokes. That's the first show in his own. I'm very curious to see how that does, but I don't think that will affect it at all. Okay. Too. Quick technical questions about the show. Yes, it shows from Joe Dittmar the the show has been noticeably shorter? Yes, it's moving to SPN. Is that a company decision or personal choice? That group decision? I'm happy because I'm happy to address stuff because we are an open book that is a group decision, but I will argue that it actually isn't all that much shorter because you may recall if you're a longtime fan of the show and not just a new, you may recall that the show for the longest time used to go from one to four thirty eastern, which three and a half hours. Correct. And that was the standard. And then once we did a deal with Twitter, we added an. Extra hour, and then we going little long along than those kind of folks that and guests fifteen guests, blah, blah, blah. But that was the after our right Trump at the show itself was typically one to four thirty today. I think we wrapped at like four twenty. So it's the same show. And then if you add this show which is usually thirty to forty minutes, you're getting your game same four hours..

"Yeah, mid pack, not bad for sixty three year, old guy, you know or or whatever is. So, yeah, you know, but the thing with. With the survey, it makes you wonder, oh the NASCAR, you know, kind of make this happen. I don't think that's the case necessarily, but and I don't know what they would do with a bunch of people said, yeah, watch because Bill Elliott, then you know, what would you do with that? It's not like you can like make a make like former stars come out of retirement selling Martin's going to be there next week or something like that. Martin could. Let's be honest could I believe he could probably literally in the garage, just like, hey, guys, you need buddy. No, I got. I got the new Feddie walk you woman Feddie Feddie while wa. the kids listen to migos migos. But maybe maybe courage is NASCAR if they get a little bit of a boost from that or some good survey results from Bill Elliott racing, maybe that encourages them to go to Cup drivers at our thing. You retiring her are retiring, you know your Casey canes, and you know you're Jeff Gordon's and guys like that. And maybe they try to encourage them to go run some lower series, which is what they should do if they can't, you know, don't wanna race in the Cup series anymore. Wanna let her schedule stand the look what it's unfairly at Sadler man, like re re juvenile his career. Yeah, totally did totally did. And then that truck race, man. You know, leave it to that track in most board. I guess it's called leave it to that track because it's not the first time this has happened happened would chase Elliott a couple of years ago and you know coming. It happened with Cole Custer. I think last year did. That's right because of the didn't have the fight there. Yeah, the fight afterwards. I mean, these guys go into that last fricking cornerman is one of the best corners in all of NASCAR, Amy series because stuff always happens there on the final lap and it was you knew was coming like only watch the replay of it when they're like, all great finish. And I was like, I'm not gonna read anymore. I'm just gonna just gonna watch replay and you could tell it was coming that you're killing going for his first win Gregson trying to Vance to next round of the playoffs Gregson was gaining and gaining. I didn't know at the time that Gregson of dominated latter part of the race up until that point and sure enough last corner, boom, they're done in here. Justin Haley, win in the whole damn thing. I mean, obviously, we'll talk about the fireworks here in a minute, but for Haley Haley said after the race, he said this, this was the race they needed to win because if you look at the schedule for the trucks, they got fourteen weeks off and there. Two weeks off teeth. They got three weeks off than there in Talladega, really. So he said, he said that this is the one we had a win because we haven't been good on the mile and a half, and then Talladega data's a crap shoot. Yeah, exactly. So I mean for him to win that and then go on like he doesn't have to worry about anything until martinsville October twenty six, which is one of the two round of six racists, holy crap. So they're second round starts almost a month from that. Wilson, here's what it goes. So they have to off weekends their net back onto the thirteenth and three off weekends Talladega October twelfth than an off weekend and martinsville off weekend ISM the Phoenix free those at home and then the final four. Wow. That's. You wanna talk about the marketing department of scheduling department for the truck series is got terrible to need to like it's okay to have off weeks..
