Drug Addiction In America

"Woken to Mentally Yours Metro could ikaes weekly podcast about all things mental health. Today we're talking to Dave. Marlon, he was the CEO of crossroads of Southern Nevada, which was the largest addiction and Rehab Center in the area, the psychotherapist drug and alcohol counselor, and he basically knows everything about addiction and mental health issues in the US and beyond. Making me talking tim today about how the pandemic has been affected addiction issues to get help if you're struggling and how to recognize if you might have a problem with drugs or alcohol. Bruce Dave. Thanks so much for joining us on mental yours and welcome from across the pond. My first question was basically because obviously as I mentioned, we're in London. You're in the US, it such different situation in terms of addiction, mental health, and obviously the pandemic to get started. Could you give kind of a brief overview of the reality of addiction in the US? How serious the problem is that how widespread is a? The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation calls addiction the number one health problem in the US. If we look at the the number of prescription opiates that are consumed in the entire world The United States consumes more than eighty percent of them. We. have. You know we've always had an alcohol problem for a percentage of our population. we we developed enough and phetamine mean and a cocaine problem over the last. Twenty years, and in the last five, six years Oh actually even a little longer. An opiate problem has has become. Our most serious addiction challenge. Kind of the most common addiction issue that you see people coming into your center with. It it's interesting. I've run Iran the largest treatment center in Las. Vegas of. Gene. Years. And now as a private center and they're absolutely opiates or over my last three, four years, they're opiates was the number one drug of choice that clients had presented to solutions recovery without the opiate use disorder their primary. Primary substance. Now I work at an indigent facility in in downtown. Las Vegas where. More than half of our clients are homeless. And what's interesting is with this demographic, there's a much higher methamphetamine use. Would say my number one. Substance of for clients is nothin vitamin with opiates and alcohol running for a close second place. That's really interesting I. Think What was interesting that you said kind of opiates have been coming up over the lost six years because for me, it's felt like the coverage has been really recent like only in the last couple of years, we taught it to the opioid crisis this being a sudden kind of unexpected issue but you're saying it's been building for a long time. It has. Interestingly, fourteen years ago I was running the largest health insurance company in the state. And I remember in my last. My last year or two I remember looking at pharmacy reports and we were all scratching our heads saying what is this Oxycontin and why did it not show up two years ago and now I remember when across the ten million dollar mark at the Insurance Company for monthly use so it really begins began spiking. Thirteen fourteen years ago. It became. Newsworthy in fashionable. Six seven years ago, and now we're a were still squarely in an opiate epidemic.

Breonna Taylor settlement is among largest payouts linked to a police shooting

"Gorman. If you wanna listen to it. Let's start with the settlements in Louisville with Briana Taylor's family a couple different things to run through of the next few minutes. Earlier this week, the Louisville metro government announced a $12 million settlement package with family of Briana Taylor. Of course, was 26 year old black woman who was shot in her own home by police officers serving a no knock warrant in March. The settlement also includes a Siri's of police reforms. Some of the reforms are changes to the approval process for an execution of search warrants. The hiring of social workers at the department a commitment to increase drug and alcohol testing of officers involved in any shooting, encouraging officers to perform at least two paid hours a week of community service in the communities they serve. And housing credits for officers toe live in certain low income parts of the city. And Felix, You took a look at the settlement. What stood out to you? Well, I think two things one. It was a record breaking settlement in and of itself. The $12 million payout. Briana Taylor's family's attorney, Benjamin Crump, represents George Floyd's family and multiple others in these situations, he said. It himself is the most money it's ever been paid for. A police involved shooting involving anyone, so that's significant itself. But Briana Taylor's mother, I said I think said it best. This is just the beginning the reform package they put together that was interesting that they the mirror who's got a vote of no confidence the other night. Apparently, you know, insisted that that was going to be part of the settlement agreement from the day one, which was good because they announced it together. It's not just about the money, but it's about the reform, which in one of these cases That's what is the driving factor, not necessarily the money. So you mentioned the key ones that are involved in this. It's interesting because we talked about the social worker aspect of Policing before because of a policy that sheriff Bob Altieri put in place here in Pinellas County, where he wanted social workers to go out to these mental health calls first on their own, try and de escalate them. And then if there's trouble than calling the police, which was You and I both thought that was a bad idea in this particular reform. Does that frothy area was that Holloway? That help earlier think that was. Yeah, I think it was cheap and also got a theory. But it's a same Pete initiative. So anyway, sorry about that. But in anyone what they will do in this case is social workers will go with The police officers on these calls or meet them out at the call, not endanger themselves. So it's kind of being that's what we thought should happen is that that's the more responsible, appropriate way to do it rather than just sending people out on their own. And then you know if the situation escalates. You got a problem on your hands. Yeah, exactly. Do you don't have time to wait for an officer to show up or say like, Hey, wait around the corner while I go talk to this person suicidal and walked in the bathroom of the gun. You know, and then ends up ends up shooting an unarmed social worker, and the other thing That's interesting is that we talked about the no knock warrants. They enacted a law in Louisville already doing away with down, But then they went one step further. Just like now, this is sheriff quality areas policy, which was the more hierarchy in terms of getting the warrant. So The way it used to work here in Fort is like you would have the detective's whether it's robbery homicide. Narcotics. Those are the ones that usually get the most warrants. They would review the case they would take their warrant to the state attorney's office. State attorney would review it and then they would be the ones to say Okay, you can go ahead and go to a judge. Well, what they done in Louisville and Penelas is that they built in another law of letter layer. Inside the department level, so supervisors will have to sign off on the warrants before they can Goth to get approval from prosecutors or the judges or accountability exactly within the department, So you don't have Because we've read the the warrants and the stories about what happened in Briana Taylor's case, and they were so thin in the connections they were trying to make Tio, the main suspect. They've lived on the other side of town, and the tenuous nature of it was the fact that she paid this guy's phone bill was an ex boyfriend of hers and also had his shoes delivered an Amazon package delivered and they immediately made the jump that that was somehow Drug trafficking activities, so that should be reviewed at a much higher level, and that's something I think I encourage. I think you'll see a lot more departments doing that. And like I said Florida, we have that additional level of the prosecutors by think it should go down one level more in order for the police involved to say, like hold on a second. Let's review this before. You go to a prosecutor with us because I got put into situations a lot of times where the detectives would get a thumbs down from a prosecutor on the case, and then they call another prosecutor in the prosecutor would say, Oh, no, This is perfectly fine. And so you have those sites of mixed messaging on stuff and that could get very dicey because not only if you go from one prosecutor, another And for example, I said, No, you don't have enough for a warrant, And then they go to another prosecutor that they're friends with. And they say, you know, they can approve the warrant that tire up to me, then you know, on Well at that point, So that's the thing the problem that they have with that so interesting reforms that they're going to do and the one I like the most. I think the most interesting is giving them the housing credits to move into. The neighborhoods that they are patrolling. So I want to see the follow up on that to see

"Even the Metro Rail is down this year by five percents. Yeah. Maybe down five percent, but we have more people living here capital metro says they have more people writing, but the percentage based on the population of the city may be down. But basically, they added a bunch of new bus stops eliminated ones that were not very productive. But they added a bunch of new bus stops affective yesterday. I I'm very confused by this we've grown and based on those percentages ridership has down. Why don't they try to become smaller more efficient, leaner and meaner versus spending more and trying to expand? When the interest clearly is waning. It's called cap remapping and went into effect yesterday. A major overhaul of the bus service across the city capital. Metro says this. Should simplify the routes make it more reliable and up the frequency. The agency has added one hundred intent new bus stops and cut seventeen during the transition period street teams will be stationed at bus stops, helping people navigate the changes. Plus, there were shuttle pickup rides writers who maybe didn't get the memo, for example, if you're on the wrong streets wrong corner waiting for the Boston. We know some things are different this morning and they've added some new shades at several of these new bus stops. And if you're a writer in you're hoping that the bus is on time because you don't want to be sitting there in the heat. They've got the new shade. Instead of making sure the buses are on time. They had some awnings to protect you from that ain't got a new app new website that you can easily plug it where you are. And where you want to go. And then it'll tell you which bus to get on. I don't understand the the decision making here. People are clearly still electing to use the cars that we've all paid way too much money for and they wanna use those for the convenience to option has to be better for me the better option. "Scrutiny as metro precedes with its are the work bus separately. Look we've been long circumspect in terms of the banks to attain accreditation in such short timeframe. So actively would employees they were to receive a are be approval and hates to this year. That's they would have done as effectively within eighteen months. I see my BG another bang recently. Secured such approve of security are the approve in eighty month. Timeframe it must be in line stuff to did you. Use those IRA be models went under National Australia Bank ownership for many years, and you know, I've been through with without Bank as well. As other challenger banks are currently preparing for the process, and the level of detail and me that the PR eight puts a Bank under to ensure that comfortable with awarding I or be credit station is pretty substantive. You know, I don't get the strong sense to engagement with metro Bank over the last couple of years financial management is particularly strong points. I think eight months I'm bishops for anybody about context. Let me go to Nick for a very final quick word on this one of the strength. Things about metro in about Vernon hill. Actually over the past decades is how his cool support of investors seem to love him so much. They stunned by him. Give him extra capital win. Every once it has that cult being punctured now somewhat remains to be seen seventy so far. I haven't had any reports of any massive sudden changes in the shell debase. But kind of depends how much face people have in Mr. hills vision of that whole old school customer service branch based model slowing growth is bad. The Capitol Hill is bad, but they all still growing they'll still by most accounts pretty popular with customers. So to an extent it's always been a pretty divisive stock. I think battles probably going to continue for while yet. The bull by battle is probably gonna escalate if anything Nick, thanks very much. And also, thank you to Joan in Dublin. Let's move onto our second topic. And a look back at Davos, David you were there all last week. You're looking pretty bushy tailed this morning. You've got over the kind of partying and long days. What were your highlights? Well, I think it's hard to pick out a highlight. Because this was my first Davos, but everybody that told me it was the gloomiest for some time. Indeed, it sort of fell to actual vaber not known for his sort of tub. Thumping optimism to say that everybody was being too gloomy. The Brexit would probably be okay. That would probably be a US China trade deal and the markets were overreacting to the various geopolitical tensions. And indeed that was kind of the overarching mood of bankers almost irritated. If you like filling the markets were out of step with the fundamentals as you say excavated now, the chairman of UBS, formerly head of the Bundesbank is hardly a man prone to optimism. But he. He represented that cabal of people who have frustrated with an overreactive market. That's right. And I mean, I suppose the sort of silver lining, if you like is the last year, which was a much more upbeat Davos the mood there proved to be wrong. Indeed. There was sort of two big predictions one that Saudi Arabia would open up and come into the international fold creating tons of business international banks and second that Emmanuel Macron would be the savior of European banking and year later both of those predictions look to have been wrong. Yeah. I think devils has a record of when it's up to mystic you can be pretty sure it's gonna be a horrible year. I'm not sure whether the reverse applies will have to wait C S. But thank you for the update, David. So let's move onto a third and final topic and catch up with Barclays Carolina. And Jane, your tag, teaming in the legal case has been brought by the series fruit office against four former directors of the Bank, and this is of course, over the two thousand and eight capital raising when the were alleged inducements paid to the Qatari investors who pumped billions of pounds into the Bank and helped save it and see off the threat of UK government, capital injections slash nationalization. Caroline, tell us about the background to this in a bit more detail. What exactly all the allegations against these people? What do they do? And how do they will come about say?.

"So the metro series is really known for these corridors that you explorer, and you kind of clear room by room, and you encounter creatures are humans, and I went on a mission where head to go down in this bunker to collect this map. So that we could look for this outpost. So we could get water because obviously if you're stuck in a desert, you need water, and of course, in this bunker, there are lots and lots of cobwebs and cobwebs being lots of spiders, and these aren't just little spiders, which by the way, when you hold your lighter up which burns away the cobwebs which is another like metro staple. Fill the spiders crawl on your hand. And like if freaked me out so much, and I was just like you'll get off. Probably just feel them. Crawling will. Yeah. Those are the little ones. Trust me, this spiders, get real big. Did you totally selling me on this? I had I just thought metro was just your run of the mill shooter. But the things you're talking about the corridors and survival elements and the hood, Mike. Oh, right. Yeah. Here's the big thing. I think people don't know about metro that. They've heard about it. They've seen him screen shots or trailer on there like like you. Oh, it's just another shooter. It's not so much deeper than that. And that's why I really love this franchise. I think it has a very specific point of view in a very specific gameplay style. What I love about what they're doing for exodus is that they're taking that. And they're saying, hey, we want to make this a little bit more approachable to people who prefer a more action based shooter experience. But we're not losing. What makes the metro franchise metro were still putting in these really scary demons. These really scary beasts were putting in this viral elements, but we're. Also, bringing in more human enemies and human factions to kind of create more of an expanded narrative to keep people interested from a story perspective. So I'm I'm pumped for this game. It looks beautiful. They have announced a bunch of special editions over the last week or two they announced the new metro bundles if you never played metro Twenty-three three or metro last light, you can play them those are, of course, the remade from the deluxe excuse me metro redux, which came out a believe last year or the year before and they're all bundled together. In the Xbox One bundles they've partnered with XBox for the marketing of this game. But highly recommend the metro franchise and the certainly has me pumped to play metro exodus when it comes out in February. I believe have ury twenty-second is the day. Metro names. I thought they moved off that they did they originally with the twenty second and other up to the fifteenth metro fact excluding fifteenth, that's like a post online say game you can play with your significant other can gather other. Let's go to the wasteland go so injury are there a single missions. Or do you have side missions or how does that were oath? Okay. The way the my demo played is that there's an icon on the map. That's like this is where you need to get to. And then you'll play through a mission. There's cut scenes there's objectives. And you will see other things on the map to where like on who is your kind of BFF love interest in the game will help you out on some missions like, for example, she pointed out to me this abandoned oil tanker this giant ship. And she's like, hey, if you go over there, you know, you'll probably find some good gear. Like hint hint. You wanna go explore that thing over there? And check out what they've got. Maybe they've got a special gun or a special attachment for your gun or an upgrade for your your gas max or compass or what have you and she'll help you out from afar because she's a sniper..

"I mean, the Tampa Bay Lightning a mantra as we talked about earlier, Donnie and the Toronto Maple Leafs or you know, a really good team. Although, you know, historically, the I know that just the other night. The Bruins seem to find a way to beat the leaf. So I was thinking of but there I mean, this is a really strong team. And you know, again, I I've been saying. We'd do NHL live back in the day. The playoffs about injuries and matchups. Right. It's about how healthy are. And who you're gonna play because some teams just matchup blow against others sold on the ruins just have to get healthy. And you know, a big circle around number seventy through three Charlie McEvoy because he's a guy that's really can drive that team. If he gets back totally healthy just back in a lot of that concussion problem. He's got to stay healthy. And I'll just thinking as you were saying that that if the season were to end and you're probably looking at Toronto finishing in second Boston third in division. And that would be the match up of the first round Boston Toronto. And if Boston's healthy, and they've had Toronto's number they could find themselves in the second round of the playoffs again and knows what kind of run you can make EJ we made them, wait. But I think we gave our audience more than enough. Yeah. Well, hey, thank you, not so pleasure to be with it. We'll be watching on television pitch to management. I think that six two four showed really good, really. I wanna work on. I'm gonna talk to somebody today, and I'm gonna make vitamin. Yeah. You better. All right. All right. Take care. All right. That's the great EJ Radic NHL now four to six eastern Monday through Friday again eight you'll network four games tonight. We talked about the Golden Knights here out east to take on me Allender. So they'll play the islanders tonight. Devils on Friday Rangers for an afternoon game on Sunday all of the call of that game is the Golden Knights beginning to warm up and the islanders three games above NHL five hundred after losing that shootout game to Pittsburgh speaking to Pittsburgh, they'll in Chicago to take on the Blackhawks you just heard EJ talk about Chicago h straight losses penguins. Now, three games above NHL five hundred flyers in Calgary to take on the flames flames or a team that no one's talking about. They're getting great goaltending. No matter who seems to be in there, but their offense is just been absolutely spectacular. So the flames nine games over NHL five hundred plano's to the flyers stars the ducks. It's an interesting game pretty much the same records. Duck sixteen eleven and five all the stars are sixteen eleven three two really good stories to playoff teams if the season were to end today that should be a fun one late. At ten o'clock. We'll do this again tomorrow. If we didn't get to your tweets today. We'll definitely get to you tomorrow. Trying to get back to a little bit of a rhythm here. After a couple of days off coming up Friday. We'll of course, have our top five of the week say up for the weekend. But still we've got games to recap. And then we got a ton of games on Thursday. Which is always a busy night in the National Hockey League's we'll be back with you again tomorrow.

"This is even the good news is they you know, during their window. They they maxed out they Stanley Cup. So that's a great news. The bad news is now that you know, they're better their top players of either read of the guys that were part of that. It'd be they're tired and traded or you know, getting older and can't shoulder that load anymore. It's just simply that and they they need to, you know, find some new pieces. I mean, you look again, the Ross is dotted all he's Astra's for young players. I mean, you four four rookies that have played in games for them this year Corey Crawford came back, and you know, he's had some moments where he's played very well. But I mean, I think they're asking Corey Crawford do way more than he can. So people will say, okay. What do you do next you break it down? Well, okay. Look at the core guys. Cain taes key Seabrook. And maybe what they had Crawford of that group. I mean Canaan as make about ten million dollars each difficult to trade them. I think came has more value at this point than TS. Don't think he's a real interesting one because he doesn't make against the cap is about five point four. I think so there's not a ton of cap space eats up there, but he just thirty five. And so, you know, you'd have to test where you think if you know, you're a team that's out there. Kenny, come in and be helpful depending on the raw have. But but boy, a wealth of experience those skates. Well, I think that there'd be a lot of interest in Duncan Keith. And then Brent Seabrook who's in a situation where it probably I mean, I think it would be near impossible to move on unless it was one of those deals where you made a lot of the money, and you gave the team something as well to take them. And you know, these guys also you gotta remember they've got some kind of they probably have some kind of no move or no trade perception in their individual contracts. And you know, Corey Crawford is, you know, one other guy that going walking strange, but you know, there might be teams that would be. Philadelphia. If they can't get off the prosecute maybe they'd be interested to Corey Crawford. So, but what do you get for guys that are, you know, in the second half of their career and are paid very well. I don't know if you've got a ton of return. So I don't know if that really answered in rushing for the Blackhawks in terms of getting better, but there's certainly some challenges there right now. I don't think there was bad as you'd never kind of as bad as you are whether in an eight game losing streak, but certainly they're not the the Blackhawks that we've seen here's path. All right. Finally, Jake says Bruins finding a way to win three in a row despite all their injuries. You think that they can make a run in the playoffs when they get guys like Berge, Ron and Charo back. Sure. Sure. I absolutely can. I mean, this is going to be an opportunity to see some younger players and has been an opportunity to put some people in different situations. I mean, they've got such a great, you know, core group there when you think of, you know, Berge, Ron and char just really professionals, really quality people and quality players. And you know, when they got those guys back to some of the younger guys, they have they're they're they're going to be a team that's going to be challenged the play against that. Especially if you know, they keep those younger defencemen, you know, healthy, and you get your walk and loop to harass playing really, well, I mean that those things will all be factors for what the problem is that they're gonna division where there's a couple of monsters..

"So, you know, for me, those are two that are way way overdue, but I don't know the politics it is. And I don't know, you know, guys, get a certain payout or something. Or you know, they I I don't know how it worked. I would say that make it happen because it's wrong over do. And it just the longer it goes. I mean, you know, you saw big cats number retard what the Rangers recently that was long overdue in my mind. So hopefully, they'll get it. At at some point. Because those are to someone who grew up and watched all those games and watch those teams I could tell you right now. Those teams would not have won the Stanley Cups without the participation of those two guys. And listen, I know you don't wanna get overboard with retired numbers. But at the same time if you're going to eventually, do it do it while the guy's still alive do it while the fan base so can relate to him. And that was the problem with Vic Hatfield, right? I mean, it was great with the Rangers was a great ceremony. But what percentage of the fan base right now was alive when he played. Yeah. You know, that's that's the problem that they did it with Hallam baton and Bathgate to just that you you put in a situation where it doesn't resonate as much, and it's unfortunate. And we'll, you know to be honest with you. It's been a long time since John and Ken Ken Morrow plan to the New York. It's been a long time. So I don't even know how much it will resonate now. But the reality is it's overdue in my view ause, and it should be done. And. That's all I can say I've been, you know, I'm pretty outspoken on that. I mean, I it's the Kenmore. I think is amazing because there's a guy works for the team his entire career still working for them. Yeah. I I don't get it. And listen to the ranger fans coming up to me all the time the gresh nerves number should be retired. And and all that I listen, there's always there's always going to be those those those those fans that flip out a line of demarcation. So where you know. Listen, it's for the fan. I mean like, right. Get a test for the fan. Like if anybody who grew up like, I watch those islanders teams. I'd be hard pressed, you know, somebody would have to have a very high standard to say those are numbers that shouldn't be retarded, especially in maros case because of his service to the franchise, yes. For such a long period of time. No question Shep wants to vent about his Blackhawks said, Chicago, ugly stats since six two and to start twenty two games. Three sixteen in three Cain six goals. Three in his last sixteen. Hawks have been down to nothing or worse in first period. Eight of last eleven games earn just two points last eleven how do we stop the insanity? Happy holidays. He spent holidays holidays because that's the days that he's in. Listen, I know that they're going in a different direction fire in the I they shouldn't be this bad. Should they? I mean, there's there's still a lot of talent on that team. Well, sometimes when things go bad they go back. You know, the the coaching change hasn't really been the answer is I I don't think most anybody thought that was really the reason why they were struggling right? I mean, Joel minutes such as successful coach for a long time. I mean, I mean, let's face it there..

"Simmons or maybe Jake four check core needs a shake-up. Well, like waiting to Vince isn't a final year was the. Oh, right. So it looks like the Chuck Fletcher is gonna sit down with them if they're going to have a conversation to figure out what the plan is going to be for Winston, Wayne Simmons. You know, if if they can't come to some kind of agreement, and if the flyers don't want to give them a term of the money that he's looking for, you know, perhaps, you know, he gets moved. I think it'd probably make some sense depending upon what the offers are for me, you know, I look back and as much as I really like James van lean sake as a player, I do wonder why there was a push for them to why there was a push to sign van Rivas like bring it back to Philly instead of just responding Simmons. It seems like he's kind of more of a fit there for them. Then then maybe are is a low JV ours. Guys score goals. They came off a great year. Lashes going a lot of goals, and you know, unfortunately, Miami got injured at the start of the season as missed all the time. But they'll have to figure that one out. I think they've got to solve the goaltender situation. I just don't think Carter heart is is. Answer at this point in time. I think he needs to really develop spent couple years in the H L. I mean. Yeah. 'cause you're call them up and couldn't catch lightning in a bottle of shore. I mean, anything is possible we've seen it happen sports. But I think it's more likely that he'd be better served by having a full development in the American Hockey League. And and going out and getting someone that can that can step in and be their goal headed for the next four or five years while they still have Jerusalem or check and and some of the, you know, older players on their roster. So it says it's going to be a challenge for Chuck. The good news is he mentioned coming in. Ronnie Hextall did do a nice job. And the fact that a nice job and scouting and developing. They've got good young players that are on their team now that are on the way to their team. So it'll be up to management there. Philadelphia to to kind of figure out what direction they want to go in with Chuck Fletcher at the helm. And like I said, I think job one is to figure out that goaltending thing and have somebody in there. If a Brodsky is available. I think you've got to try to go out and get them. Here's a question from Ricky if the islanders make the playoffs with they play at the Coliseum fulltime. That is a good question because I was thinking about that the other day, I think they played their last eleven games at the Coliseum this year. And I'm not one hundred percent sure of that. But I think that's the case there. Let's let at home games. And I get the sense based on that that they would have to succeed that ice would be the ice that they would play on in the playoffs. Now again, I have not a hundred percent sure. That by any means, I know the Barclay center is a place. I do a lot of concert business then. Yeah. You know, the Nassau Coliseum or the, you know, the NYC whatever they're calling me live. There you go. I think that the ice the, you know, the the the link or the building availibility might be better there. But that's one of those things I'll probably have to check on it. When I get a firm answer report back to you, Don and Ricky specifically asks you EJ will they retire tamales twenty-seven God, I wish they would. I mean, come on. I mean, you know, I I. Think two numbers that they they should retire there. That are way overdue is John Tonelli's twenty seven and Kenny morals number six. I mean, Kenny Moro still works for the team. He spent his whole life as an islander. He came to the demand Lindsay, a member of of a team that won four Stanley Cups. One of those big guys on that group. But he was also an American sports legend for being part of the nineteen eighty Olympic team. And he's mega said he spent his entire life as an islander in their scouting department..

"So an Anaheim is a tremendous story. Right. I mean, I I. I had maybe Randy Carlyle, pegged is maybe getting let go, you know, gets locked getting older Perry hurt, you know, their goaltending situation, and, you know, watching him against the devils the other night, the that's a very good hockey team. They're not they're not awesome by any stretch but much better than I thought they were going to be at the beginning of the season. And I I think Randy and Edmond and Anaheim deserve a lot of credit for for hanging in there and plan the kind of hockey they're playing or we got some good veterans there. They have a culture of success. Right. You know that weighs into it. And you know, you think about some of the guys on the team outside of the gets. But like out of Henrico, the really good pro you've got someone like that Andrew cog Leon, and it was a really good pro you got some young veterans on events like Josh Manson. He's a good pro. And you know, Brandon menteur is kind of found his way the in the league. And there's another guy that you know, good professional. So that's the kind of team thing they have going there. I still worry. They go up a lot of shots there forward or not really fast. Their defense is missing, you know, camp salaries been out for a while he won't be back until. January. That's the big miss not having back in and they've played a lot of kids this year. I'm only a look at you know, their their roster players this year. I mean, they've played like nine or ten rookies have gotten a chance to play games this year in the league. I mean, that's a lot of young players to work into your team. So they found ways to win kind kinda begins in goal with John Gibson has been great nine twenty five. Save percentage. Ryan Miller was really good. And now he's hurts. We're going to be out six weeks. They went out and picked up Chad Johnson off waivers from Saint Louis. So they're gonna hope that Chad Johnson could come in. And do the same kind of work that Ryan Miller did is you know in limited action, but John gives a he's a top five goal in this league. "He missed the first twenty games through that suspension that P V related suspension. So he makes such a world of difference. He brings so much energy them on the ice off. The I everybody is slotted better on defense. When they is there you can play against your best players. They played all situations. So that's a huge difference for them to have him back in the lineup. Mark andre. It's kind of you know, settled into his game. Now, he's playing a lot. That's my only concern. He's played twenty eight of their he's played in twenty eight of their thirty two games. So far this season when they've turned him out, sue bad. It's been tough spots. And all of them has not responded. Well, and he played much better last year. But he has been put into situations. Second of back to back from the team wasn't playing well on the road against tough team. So I think that they will look at some point to get flurries some rest during the season when they finish this little four game road trip through the east and Columbus, which was the New York area in Columbus. They will play twenty two road games and fourteen home games. The whole schedule will pick up and that might be an opportunity for a little rest for Marc Andre Fleury at some point. But you know, that team is playing much better. Now, I think they've they've shook off some of the things that bothered me in the year and some of the hangover of get into a final, and and the kind of embracing the team that they are now with some of the new players like Apache, ready who's. Kind of found his way playing with. Yeah. Cody, Alex, talk, Alex talk is a really good player to he missed some time early in the year. So they're really well. Coach good thing. Even I think, you're right. I think they're going to be in the mix in the Pacific Pacific is heating up. Now, we talked about how much it was a struggle like Calgary's plant way better there. Seven to one of their last ten San Jose is the last couple of games seems to be out of their way. Again, Anaheim's finding ways to win Edmonton is red hot on your hitch eight two and one hundred inch crock it'd be is playing well. So the Pacific Division is starting to heat up. And you gotta start getting wins. Because you're gonna get left by going to bring up the Pacific in relation to the metro. But you're right things are beginning to change Vegas playing better. That was a huge win for Edmonton last night. Jack Michael's our buddy, the play by play voice on the radio side. For Edmonton reminded us on Twitter today that they're only four points out of the top spot of the conference believe it or not on this little tooth there on its seven two in one and four straight win..

"For the season. Yeah. And I think he's thirteen in three or eleven in three since replacing that's starting analysts and a lot of that, you know, they're winning. They're scoring a ton of goals, and they're gonna get Stroman back to their their deep on the blue line mcdonagh's having a fabulous season for them. I listen Nashville still really good Winnipeg is really good. But to me right now, Tampa is one with a bullet. Yeah. Right now. I agree with you completely. They've won seven in a row. They just blew out the avalanche on Saturday night. Which is a team that's one of the top teams league. And they just hammer them finding ways to win another nights. And you know, it just they've been right now, they are just you know, they are the best team in the league. There's no question and it looks like vastly. That's he'll be back. They sent pass quell down back to the minors. And looks like I talk to there. Damp, but tell me the about is looks like he's ready to go. Now. It'd be curious I'll be interested. The he's gonna play in their game Thursday night against Toronto. I mean, that's a really that's one of those ones just circle on your counter right now because the leaves are playing well, and certainly, you know, this might be a match up. We see we're on the playoffs. But they just got there just loaded. You gotta give a lot of credit to alma re and the scouting staff there. You know, Steve argument for setting it up, and then for Alvar in his group because you know, think about, you know, some of the players like Brayton point wasn't a first overall pick of you know, Yanni gourd was was just kind of gripping around. I mean, he was somebody that they found and they liked they brought him in Matthew Joseph this year as a kid there's a rookie, and he can just absolutely fly. You know, Anthony sorelle he's been a helpful player for them. Let me all these young players that they've drafted and developed in part of their group. I mean, here's a kid. You know, Eric Saranac they've brought in from watch from the kings. And he's getting the play like fifteen sixteen seventeen minutes at night now and he's been in. Effective player for them. I mean that's got traded for. But that goes back to the scouting staff identify players to bring in so. Yeah, trough was a great traffic. And he wasn't a first overall pick either. Stamkos wasn't on Edmund was a high pick. But just everything they've done. There is been really really really really smart and well done, and you know, we'll see what happens in spring because you know, of course, I sure at this time they were playing very well too. And it just it didn't work out. But I I like their group right now in the fact that mcdonagh now is is having a full season. Now, he's totally you know, he came in their last year on it. You know, you watch them with the Rangers dinged up. He hasn't you know, he was a captain the Rangers traded to happy. He's got to settle into that situation there. And I don't think he was quite as best. He has a summer to get settled to get healthy. And he's been playing some great hockey anything about a plus nineteen going into action tomorrow night against Geronimo. So you know, this team is loaded right now. And if they can say how they're going to be hard to be now it's going to be a hell of a game tomorrow. Between Toronto and Tampa. And would be a hell of a best of seven series. If we can see it in the playoffs Vegas is finally coming around and they've won eight of their last ten their swing and through the east here, probably catching the islanders devils and Rangers at the right time. So they can keep this winning going, and that's been their problem right there seven and eleven on the road this year. But now they've got thirty five points there in a wide open Pacific Division. I would not be surprised if you know when we talk next week Vegas is back up among the leaders in the Pacific Division. It looks like they've got it figured out there. Yeah. Well, nature coming back. Yeah. Bonus for right..

"This was supposed to be the year right while he's finally one is cop. And you know, you had the off season of just celebrating. You know, what the whole team's picked up. They eventually got back on track. And now or where they should be in first place. But you know, he's going to have another could easily could score seventy this year. So. Realm. No, so listen, eight ninety four's probably out of reach for him. But if he wants to continue to play I would think that we can at the end of next year he'll be over seven hundred. So I think ADL one is has to be insights. Right. I think it's it's not out of the question. I mean, obviously, it always depends upon how healthy is. And and what is approaches, and you know, it was made for they continue to have good teams there. I mean, I don't see any reason why, you know, who's nets off isn't gonna continue to be, you know, he's playing with Backstrom in recent times again, but you know, three years from now, I think is getting because that's still going to be a really good player. So yeah, it'll be interesting to watch. I mean, I just shake my head. I made note of it on our show on the NHL now show like a couple of weeks ago that like oh, by the way, if you haven't been paying attention. So Michigan is like, you know, scoring goals again, like just like normal. You know because it gets it. You know, it's like so commonplace now, and then he gets the hat trick against the red wing. On Tuesday night, and kind of crazy gold. They've got a couple of good bounces and they had one really nice to on one. Just a rocket off the off the kind of inside of the elbow of the crockery arm of Jonathan Bernier. You couldn't get a much better shot than that. And yeah, he's got twenty five goals this year. And I mean, he's just playing great. He's one of these guys. I mean, you shake your head because he's thirty three years old. I mean, he seems to be better. Now remember a couple years ago? Don, I mean, they had those couple years in the early two thousand ten eleven twelve there that area where he was getting thirty to thirty eight now, and then he kind of picked it up again. And even a couple of years back. He had a thirty three goals seasons. Sixty and seventy I mean, you know, he almost hit fifty last year and he's on pace to break fifty this year. There's not many guys get better as they get older. So I like I say, wow, he's having a terrific season. Probably too much to dream fifty and fifty because he's five goals off that pace still. I think that's the that's something we may never see again. But I feel. Feel better about it than I would have five years ago. Right. It's incredible blood war for sure then you know, rant in an is fifty points and thirty one game. So he's well on his way to a you know, one hundred twenty points season there. So we're starting to see things we just haven't seen in a long time member doing those NHL live shows, you know, we'd be lucky if we had one guy hit fifty goals, and sometimes we'd have no fifty goal scores. And now you're seeing could be multiple fifty goals scores could see seventy again from Ovechkin surly on pace to do that if he stays healthy. But it's been fun to watch. There's no question about it to me. Jay, there's Tampa and everybody else, and I know that it's early and a lot of things can happen. But things have happened the Tampa, right? Stamkos off to the slow start. He's now on fire with a hattrick against the Rangers. They've been playing with the backup goaltender that was the second star of the week. What does he fourteen and was he fourteen was eleven three..

"Who's it going to be? That's a great question. I mean, I would say it would be Columbus. But with the the idea, you're right. I mean, I think that I mean Borowski and Pinera non coming back. I mean, I I'm I'm comfortable saying that I mean, I could be wrong. But guys sawing narrowness talk a lot about wanted to test the market, and he I think, you know, truth be told if we were given that truth serum he probably has a couple of cities they really has the desire to plan. So, you know, I think he's gonna be out and the Brosse these goalies, I believe, you know, they are. What the word on this? They're sensitive a little bit. And you know, I think that relationship with him in John Twitter is is tricky. And I think it's made more difficult by the fact that that Bob, and you know in the final year of his contract. And I think he's he wouldn't be thinking about his future as well. And so I get defensive those guys are going to leave. And so that makes you wonder what they're gonna do. I mean, if I was in Columbus, and we had this conversation on Ryan, and I have been hesitant to, you know, I it's very very difficult. I've it hasn't to say I will. I would definitely do this. Right. Wait and see. I think I'd really start thinking about trading those two guys. I haven't seen anything from thirty games. That makes me think that the calmness. Blue jackets are going to they're going to be able to go on a long run and won the Stanley Cup. So I would really you don't try to see what the offers aren't always depends on the offers. But I think I would move those guys. But that said, I would say they're probably the third ghost team because they've got you know, they've got a really good group undefended there led by Jones. Warranty. And they've got some good a forward outside of the outside of Pinero. Good young forwards that can still kinda grind it out and make it hard for you. So the sixty four thousand dollar question is who would be interested in of LeBron's though, there could be two different camps. There could be the camp of we want to trade for Brodsky. And then sign him or the team that says I just wanna rental because I just think he's a better goaltender the what we have. And I believe that having him for the rest of this year guarantees a playoff spot and a possible playoff run. So do do you see those suitors out there? Well, I mean, I think Philadelphia would probably love to get him back. You know, and they've got a a whole host of really talented young prospects in your system that they could maybe trade one of them. I mean, they have a new general manager. Now, let's under pressure to to make something happen. Probably. I mean, he was born with the idea that you know, to be a little bit more out there. You know, the reports are that Trump has talked to a lot of teams Chuck Fletcher. So I mean, Philadelphia's one spot now that's why the division. So that's a tricky one. And would that be a rental or would that be that they would want to sign? Oh, I think they would I would try to sign them. I mean, let's face it. You know, they have Carter heart in the job at Kara heart is really like, you know, three years away for being a you four years away from being every day goal. I mean, it would take the pressure off to we can just plan the American Hockey League have a whole a couple of seasons in the American League. And then see where they're at. I mean, it really would depend upon what the boss you want to write..

"Metro prime three had just come out that year i think and so i played the primes first because coming from the world of first person shooters i was like this is going to be my way in you know so i think that was a good place to start for me specifically but whenever people are like where should i start with metro and i'm like well it really depends on what john ray you personally like if you're a person who really likes to d pot farmers you'll probably like super metro the best or you might even want to start with the three d s one that's new the metro to remake because it has modern mechanics and modern save state abilities and might jive better with you if you're younger but if you like first person shooters maybe you'll like metro prime i don't know those games are really long and hard which is kind of a thing about metro aid is that you have to be like well remember what games are old and you just send a really long time jumping very very carefully onto different little platforms and just really going over and over certain little platforms over and over again good fine prime to be that difficult so it's interesting didn't that's high but i went back and tried to replay it recently and i was like i don't know these these are rough i think too there's some really long sections that they all kind run together for me now but i was i was finding i haven't i haven't played all of price started with prime a couple years ago we're talking with stephen to toe about it a lot and was finding trade fan yes huge metro fan and that was funny that it was i i thought that game is just wonderful and if anybody listening to this hasn't played it you they lash it i guess hopefully they'll come to switch in there's just there are some moments i think are beautiful i think maybe we talked i think i.

"Seconds left in the game so montreal cruises there uh pittsburgh you can be concerned about the not being a playoff team i've heard rumblings that there is concern as his in the play out in they're go to the playoffs they just have too much talent and you see when they needed a win they got it last night against the divisional opponent you know they fall behind but they get the job done and they end up getting goals from unsuspecting places right uh simone ends up getting his second national hockey league goal a day gets a goal for them and then the big goal came um gansel gets his tally midway through the third period to get to do a put it away so pittsburgh adjust to town that a team you have crosby have malki in you have castle and what you have let tang when he's healthy i'm not saying pittsburgh can when a cop but that's what would scare me up on the rangers that will scare move on the doubles that a pittsburgh team that for a lot of the years been hovering under of that line of making the playoffs they're gonna be a playoff team in their go to replace somebody that is a playoff team and now pittsburgh is a playoff team replacing the rangers the second wild so that's kind of scary philadelphia's making it hard on everybody as well secondconsecutive game in which they win in overtime and the second consecutive game in which can at key ends up being the goal score travis gets hit the powerplay goal second consecutive game in which he's been able to steal a point for philadelphia's they win in detroit three two two ottawa's ship is sinking the blues took advantage of a last night with a three to nothing victory over the sends the blues trying to really keep up with the jones's they're out west and tarasenko gets his 21st of the season schenn may be one of the biggest acquisitions in the offseason for any team anywhere gets his twentieth of the year as the ball of the st louis blues control as its hutton that gets the 25 save performance in the shut out tampa bay wins over nashville ford of three possible stanley cup final preview we'll have to wait and see stam coast.

"The release he's that king misconduct pod with john macgregor i am down mcgregor thanks for joining us here on a wednesday slow games to go over and the big story here in new york and a lot of people to listen to this podcast arranger fans or our fans of teams of the metropolitan division not a great night for the metro rangers lose devils losing avalanche she's be the blue jackets lose carolina loses but they lost to another metro team pittsburgh philadelphia did win so wasn't a complete washout for the metropolitan teams but there are a couple of teams in the metro where i think the fan base bases in a bit of a panic mode and i think the ranger fan is starting to get a little bit nervous now you do have the excuse of the injuries crowder is a major forward shatin kirk is a major defense minister actually offensively you play the last six games without kevin hayes which explains why the penalty kill has given up seven powerplay goals in the last thirteen shorthanded because he is a penalty killer for you and you're going up against some pretty good teams out west words dicey to begin with no matter how good you are so there are some built excuses while the ranges of lost three in a row there's some built in excuses why this team seems to be healthy a bit of trouble here with one game left before the allstar break in san jose against the sharks and you make the case of the four teams they're playing out west the sharks were the best of them so they've got a tall order in the best of days and they hope to get kevin hayes back on thursday we'll see he skated before the game yesterday didn't look 100 percent i'll probably get a chance to practice today may be skate before the game on thursday but the chances of being a hundred percent are probably slim and i would not be surprised with rangers decide with the week off after the san jose game get him back to one hundred percent although the points are pretty important and the rangers desperately need the because as of right now they are outside of the playoffs now they do have a game in hand on pittsburgh so it's not the end of the world but you got to start finding.
