"He's coming off of this breakout rookie year for the For the Yankees. He's gonna fitting great. Solve the issues at first base. No, they get him four years after that. It reminds me of Matt Camp. Like the Rockies didn't get rocky killer Matt Camp. They got, uh, you know. Matt Camp, plus a few L bees minus about 50 points off of his batting average. Matt Camp. So the thing that the Broncos do where they signed a guy two years too late. Rockies do it, like five years too late. Hey, we're rooting for him, right? Colorado guy. I hope he makes the club. It's not like Josh Point is has first based on lock right? Who knows? Being home? Certainly. And isn't that just so not just that the Rockies or picking up great bird. When he has virtually no value. When his career has gone sharply downhill since that initial call up from the Yankees. But you know that the Rockies air also doing this. Because they legitimately think that some Rockies fans will be like, Oh, You know, I'm it's upset about Nolan are not. Oh, getting traded, but great bird. He's from Colorado, right? Yeah. Not gonna work. But if you're keeping track at home if you're playing the Colorado Rockies free, aging home addition game That is now too. On minor league free agents. The Rockies have signed still one of only five teams in major league baseball that is not signed anybody to a major league contract, which is awesome. They've signed Greg Bird. And they've signed Pudge Rodriguez is kid. That's it. That's the list. But they acquired Austin got Amber and I already forgot the names of the other three guys at the Rockies got from the Cardinals. It doesn't matter because they're not going to be up with the team. L 2023 if at all. So At least there's somebody if he ends up making the team Worth rooting for. So here's to hoping great bird. As a career resurgence back home in Colorado. 5 to 29872 when we come back another Colorado guy, Phillip Lindsay, Had some comments about last season. Obviously not what he or the Broncos envisioned, and he let it be known. He was not thrilled with the role he had last year. He vows to do better. Tell you what, he said. Coming up after we Ah, what we got here. Dan Patrick's above the noise. I believe. That our king I'm Dan Patrick, and this is above the noise. Not long ago, we had player coaches in professional sports like Bill Russell and Lenny Wilkins in the NBA. Pete Rose in baseball, But now we appeared to be on the era.

"The way that Jeff Bright Ege when about his relationship with Nolan are nado in the two years following The signing of the extension. Where no one are not. Oh, Was promised that this team would continue to try and win. At 2017 and 2018. We're not Out, likes This was going to be a team built. To win now and built to win in the future, and the Rockies then went out in the next two off seasons and did nothing. They added Matt Kemp. Not good Matt Camp. Like overweight. Batting to 20 Matt Camp. That's it. That's what they've done. They've done nothing else besides slash payroll. And not found anyone to replace the guys. They've gotten rid of. And then, when no one voiced his frustrations. Jeff Bright age would not comment on it would not answer his calls. Would not give the level of courtesy. Forget to a franchise player. Forget to unravel it, too. An employee. Think about your jobs. Hey, if you were as disgruntled as the Rockies claim that Nolan are not awas And how much they wanted out. Wouldn't The higher ups at your company. At least reach out. At least try to hear your concerns. Try to mend fences. By all accounts, Jeff Bright Ege. Didn't do any of.

"Well, I don't know if we could be surprised. In fact, Was there any doubt That movie. Betts was going to be a Dodger for the rest of his career. And maybe saying the rest of his career is a little bit strong. At this point, Mookie Betts is still very much a young man. He's 27 years old. But he will be a If he plays out his entire deal, just like what we did with Patrick Mahomes. If he plays out his entire deal, he will be 40 When he's back on the market. 13 years, $392 million that Mookie Betts has received. From the L. A Dodgers. He will be You know the Rockies The Rockies just finally got Matt Kemp. He just finally got Matt camp and now the next Matt camp. Is is Signing up long term with the Dodgers. And what I mean by Matt can't Mookie Betts might be better than Matt Camp. When all is said and done. You might be better than in Now, I mean, Dodger fans feel free to weigh in here. But what I mean by that is Iraqis finally got one of the Rockies killers. Away from the Dodgers and onto their team, and now here's the next one. In addition to Max Muncy and Cody Bellenger Like I don't know if there's any conversation right now, with division realignment. But as an aside this has nothing to do with Mookie Betts Signing. This is just what pop pop into my head. I I think we need Thio. Consider Some division realignment in baseball. You know, and I'm just spitballing here. So allow me to maybe we move. Um I don't know. "Right now, If you're A grizzled veteran of this show. You know what we do at this time We try to reset the conversation a little bit. Let's you know get you caught up. If you weren't joining us the last couple of hours. It is time for Wednesday edition of what's driving the show. A CZ. You're driving home. Here are the three stories that are driving drive time sports. All righty. Let's start with back camp talking about being old and story number one. Trying to figure out why people think 35 is old. Like I say when I was first coming up, you know, 35 year olds were at the prime of their career. You just don't just don't lose bass Pete. Just from from one year to the next, you know, gradually gradually happens And like I said, I still think I could play baseball at a high level. That is Rocky's Outfielder. Matt Camp, probably more of a D. H. Rocky's outfielder Matt Camp today. Talking about how he's not done yet. He doesn't feel old and he still has a lot to give. To this Rocky's team of voice that he's Happy to be And I, and you know what? I think that he's he's right to a certain extent, 35 is not ancient in the game of baseball, especially if all you're really being asked to do is hit. He could still swinging the bat. 35 is not completely over the hill. I'm looking again at Matt Kemp staff. Especially over the last few years. One. See what Steve left L a And there is some validity to claims he made today like Look 2018 I was an All Star 2019. I got hurt. Why is everybody throwing dirt on me? But you do look at the bigger picture over the last five years, and Matt Kemp's numbers are trending down. Doesn't mean he's John doesn't mean he's over the hill. But since he's gotten into his thirties, and we know that's a magic number and a lot of sports with a lot of different positions, he hasn't been the player was in L. A. And I guess that's.

"Once a year. It's not. It's only July 1st, but I feel like we Bring up Bobby Bunny is contract. All the time. But today is Bob. Even the day he gets paid $1.19 million. And It's a long running joke with with the Mets, because obviously wasn't a good free agent signing and they continue to pay him and everything. It's actually worked out quite nicely for both sides. Cause the Mets got some immediate relief when they're going through all their troubles with the Ponzi scheme and all that kind of stuff that they got caught up in and then Bobby Bania gets toe. Make $1.19 million every July 1st. And I got to say with a cz. Muchas we beat the Bobby Bania Day thing over the head all every single year. And make a big old fuss about it. It is. I'm shocked that we don't see Maur contracts work that way. Like Not the bio contracts. I mean, literally like the normal contracts. That guy's sign. Like you see what's happening with Bobby Bania. How would you not get your agent to give you that kind of a deal? We always talk about like Bobby Bunny has been retired for 20 years or whatever it's been, and he's still getting paid a $1,000,000.1.19 million every single year. I mean, that's true planning. But all of these No. And it doesn't work it everything you can't do it in football. Right because Nonguaranteed contracts, and I'm sure NFL teams will be able Tio take advantage of that, but in the sports with guaranteed contracts I mean, think about the foresight it would take. From a player. To say. I'm not going to get paid $30 million Take Nolan are Renato, for example. Dolinar notto, making roughly $30 million a year. So, he says, instead of paying me $30 million a year For the next 10 years. I'm going, kid get paid. And I'm not great at math. But I'll take it. I'll take it down to 20 year. So there's if my math is correct. That's $100 million that he's lopping off. The contract over the 10 years. And he's like I would like you. To pay me the rest. Over my post playing career, because probably Nolan, aren't I was going to be close. Done with his career, maybe gets a couple of years past this contract. And then, of course, there's the whole what if he opts out and science? Another long term deal somewhere else, But Nolan are now is not going to have a ton of baseball left in him. After a decade. Certainly not a lot of baseball, high level baseball to where he would be paid a lot of money. On a contract. Now, I'm sure there might be rules against it and stuff. But I just don't understand why, with how creative and four thinking And Also the outside the box thinking like Spencer didn't witty, converting, trying to convert his entire contract into Bitcoin. I just trying to come up with these Ways to try and get a deal like Bob even came because it was a buyout in it. It was a separate arrangement, and I don't know if It would jive with the Ciba and things like that, But I don't know why players There's there's gotta be at least one or two players that push for something like this right probably has to be collectively bargained. But we haven't even heard of anyone that's even tried. Anyone that's brought it up is like you know what I think I would like a Bobby Bania type contract. Somebody's gotta figure. Somebody's got it. Have thought of this. Right? I mean, we talk about it every single year. Good on Bobby Bania. $1.19 million richer today. If you want to get in touch with the show, you could text in at 5 to 29872 That's 5 to 2 x T R A. You could also call in To that number. You'll hear from Jeff. Bright age here in the next segment. As he had some comments when it comes to Ian Desmond. Also Matt Camp, what kind of an impact he can make? On the Colorado Rockies. Also talked about How they're communicating. With the governor and public health officials and Mayor Handcock to try and Navigate all of this. Now, baseball players reported today. So the Rockies are showing up. To Coors Field, But that doesn't mean that tomorrow. They're going to be able to Governor Polish yesterday. Of course, shutting down bars now fear a bar that serves food. You're okay. If you don't serve any food, you gotta Close up. So anyway, that's beside the point. Jeff Bright it you'll hear from Jeff Bright Ege. And just a little bit. Both Philip Lindsay And Garrett Bolles took to social media today. To make statements about what types of players they're going to be. This season. We'll get into that as well. Today's Canada Day. Happy Birthday, Canada. And apparently, the NHL is Giving Canada a birthday present by not by not just giving them one Making them one host city. Both Both host cities. Ed Minton and Toronto reportedly will be the two host cities when the NHL resumes at the end of the month. And we had thought we had long thought about badminton. Because thie premiere Of Ed Minton was doing everything he can. He was lobbying Justin Trudeau and the government to allow badminton to be one of the host cities and you talk to people in NHL circles and they said, you know Edmund 10. If the government of Canada lightens up a little bit. And allows players Tio Cross. Into Canada from the United States and allow them to beer and cut down on the time they have to be quarantined. That Edmund tonight would be the Canadian city that got it. But as many of you pointed out when we were having that discussion initially You looked at a city like Toronto. On the eastern side of the continent. As a bigger city, and maybe A better city tohave it and then we had this. So was Edmund in Vegas. Then who's Vegas? Toronto, and now it looks like it's Ed Minton. And Toronto..

"Molten America dot com. They'll take you right through the process. Those good folks, take care of you every day and any day when it comes to molt. Well, here we are dodgers reg today. Four ten first pitch less than an hour away last night. Of course, Richhill just completely mesmerized the reds, Anthony desk, Squatty let's just say had a number of unfortunate pitches last night. And it it led to a route sixty nothing dodgers lead the west reds are looking up at the rest of the at the rest of the National League central division. And where does that end? I don't know. But it certainly it certainly is a problem for the reds right here. Right now, maybe their fortunes change today on the mound for the reds today is Tyler Malley. He is an unfortunate Owen, five so far in the two thousand nineteen season year as decent it's under four rented. Some bad luck strikes at a of guys doesn't walk a lot of guys. But it's just not been there this season so far for Tyler Molly. Who knows? Maybe it is there today. He'll be opposed by Walker. Bueller? Maybe in some way, shape or form, we can find out during the course of the broadcast. If Walker bueller is anyway related to ferris bueller. And let's just hope right here that Walker. Buehler has a day off against your Cincinnati Reds. Right. Enough of that enough of that. It's interesting. We're the reds are right now. They're, they're dead. The dead last in the National League central division. The trade deadline is still a couple of months away. Whereas Alex would nobody knows he's going to begin throwing this coming week at an Arizona. So in essence. Spring training is beginning for Alex would right now. And if you just do the math, if you just take out, you know what it takes pitcher to go from first day of throwing to ready for the season. It's about five weeks. So I suppose you could look at Alex would say right now. Alex, would at this point is probably if he's backed by July fourth in any way, shape or form. I think that's that's optimistic. He's been battling back issues. Just when you think that he's been able to get over those other back issue. The thing is that trade that the reds made with the dodgers back in December, it's becoming more evident that the dodgers wanted to unload salary. And that's what they did with guys in contract years. Yes, he will pay Kwete and Matt camp and Alex wood, the reds, basically Audio's Kemp. Several teams are helping pay his salary. So it wasn't that big a deal to dine on. But as you get closer to the deadline and is not hitting. That's a problem because he's not helping you and he's not helping the fact that there may be a team out there that might be interested in him at the deadline say with would if he's not back in his back. Isn't any good? Then he can't help you either. Certainly to win games here and certainly to attract. Some interest from some other teams and I suppose that's something to worry about down the road initially right now is win ballgames your seven and a half out of I you don't want it slipped to eight and a half nine AM get get wins now and put it in the other conversation. Now, one thing that has been interesting in this season is the call up of Nixon's L. There are those who believe he should have never been sent down in the first place. I'm not going to rehash super twos. And what it means for arbitration, and the back end of his current contractors time with the reds. I mean that's been rehashed over and over and over again. And frankly he was hurt in the latter stages spring training. But he's here now. And so what should we expect? Dan's in bro. Bosque's a great friend of this show. He does the yearly zips protected projections and his projections on seller fascinating. But I wanted to get an up the from sins from Szymborska what he thinks now that sends Ella's here. What we can legitimately expect from him. It's all it's impor- ski on my show here a couple of weeks ago, and we got into that conversation. Realistically, what can can we expect given his track record? In the minor leagues leading up to this. This is what Zampa is in Boise had to say he had nearly nine hundred s when he was healthy for Louisville last year. And I think for the red what they need the case now is players with upside, now, Scott shetler, for instance, should be hitting better than he has. So should week. But the unknown upside is what can bring to the team because you know they started the season off with one hundred sixty two games to outplay everybody by one game. Now they have to outplay the cardinals by by, like eight games in one hundred thirty and so on. So it it's a challenge, and they started the end of March. Well, I mean if you look at it, they love Jesse Winker and Winker has hit the ball. Well this year, he's had some unfortunate luck but he hit the ball. Well, I think a Winker sends Zell plea outfield long-term Irina medium-term gives the red of the best chance to win. And that's what they need to seize right now. The best. Chance to win. We don't know this is sheer conjecture, but in your opinion, over one hundred sixty two games, what would be realistic in terms of numbers from from Nixon since L, I think, since Alcan hit a seven fifty. He I mean he's not gonna have a huge batting average. But if you look at baseball today, nobody has a huge batting average of the league lost up twenty five point, the batting average really from the mid nineties, but even like something that we say, oh, from the seventies, the recent development baseball that that nobody hits for average anymore. You play. Projections coming into the season had up to sixty seven. Batting average, we've actually know PS around seven eighty another period. You've had injury that kind of affected, probably the very short term development just because he didn't have the same star the season everybody else that, but I think that he will be a plus for the team and he has a chance to be a plus plus guy pretty quickly. So this is really going to put you on the spot. But listen, we have you on here because you're not afraid to give opinion but at his zenith at his best in the course of his best years in major league baseball where would you project his war? I think he has some four win seasons in them. I don't know if he's going to have the power or the defensive upside to say be an MVP candidate. I've been I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again. But I think he does have all star potential, and it would probably surprise me more if he never made an all star game than if he did your chats on usually Wednesdays is that when they are. I do Monday chat. People a lot of weird questions because they know that I'm probably three to the average sports writers. No. I, I would say seeing your zips entering the season that you're you weren't surprised by the way. The starting pitching has, has, has comprised itself this year and displayed itself this year. But I would have to think that you're probably a little bit more surprised than what you might have been at the beginning of the season. It's been very, very good, especially Custodio. I think he has established himself now as a legitimate ace starter. I think there was that kind of question around him coming into the season like which was the real Castillo was the guy the first half is struggled of the guy in the second half, he's changed up when it's just, you know, destroying hitter's up there and largely his answer, the question that it was the second half. He's already at like to war for the season's halfway to an all star game already start an author season after seven thirty. I think that development is pretty key for the red. And I would certainly be talking about an extinction that along the lines of Blake's now with the rave to make sure that Castillo is if the Nettie passes, sixty or service. Yeah, I would say that would be business prudent on the part of the ridge, look, we're into may now and it's I think, I think we're past the point of saying, hey, it's early, but as lousy as the reds have hit the ball this year and as good as their starting pitching his been to be within less than double digit deficit of first place. I think and again, I'm going on a limb here and this is going to sound like pollyanna, but it's it really shouldn't be as close as it is for the reds at this point. Realistically, let's just say since oh comes here and there's better offense at a field. And let's just say the pitching starting pitching continues. Could you envision a scenario where this team is, is contending in July and August? I can see a scenario where that happened. I think the trickiest thing isn't so much the number of games behind they are. I think the largest problem is the number of teams that are competitive in the NFL right now because you see teams like the Padres are no longer rebuilding. They are slowly transitioning as they bring up their top prospect victory envisioning, like the Phillies and Braves the year ago into contending mood and there are a lot of teams that can win the wild card, and there are a lot of good teams in the NFL sanctuary. There's no Marlin in the NL until there's no other giant team in the NFL thankful it is a tough competitive division. So the reds probably had to be better than they would if they were in the AL. Thank you can't arrange that can, you know, you have great power, there's no way. If I had great power, there'd be a lot of things that would be different. So you buddy, you and may damage boards. "That's coming up in a few minutes. So. We were just talking about the Lakers. Right. And just kind of how weird the process has been right. It's just been anyone remotely. Close to the basketball world has felt that it just feels like the process has either been non existent or just out of order or just strange in any way, shape or form, Andy, and it conversely, you look at the way the dodgers conduct their business, and it rarely feels like even if you disagree with some of the moves you understand that least their position though, when they make the moves is that a fair way to describe it. I feel like you have more confidence in the decisions that they're making if nothing else and like some of the decisions they've made like when they when they traded UCLA league. And Matt camp in that big, you know, salary moving deal to Cincinnati. It felt like they were setting up for something big. And that big thing never really happened. I mean the closest thing you'd call. It was AJ Pollock. But I think for most for most fans that's not what they were looking for and some fans, I know that was considered underwhelming. But by. Enlarge the moves this brain trust is made feels trustable like you you feel like their decisions being made by smart people who've got you know, they've got a reason that got a path that they're going down. Yeah. I mean, look Andrew Friedman got the Tampa Bay bleeping raise on a shoestring budget to the World Series. Right. That's that's all you needed to know. And look just because the man has money to work with now doesn't necessarily mean he's going to strike gold. Because that hasn't always been the case in baseball like we've seen guys who've worked on shoestring budgets, and then they go on to other teams general managers that are that is and it hasn't worked out. They haven't been able to replicate or duplicate their success that they had in the smaller market. So it's not always going to be the case. Perhaps. That's honestly, why Billy bean has never left the Oakland A's, right? Like, some people feel that despite having a chance he could have been the Red Sox general manager he could have been THEO Epstein, basically, if he wanted to be, and you know, Theo's been able to duplicate that now in two places with the reds. Socks and the cubs. So I just think that Andrew Friedman and just kind of the way the dodgers do business needs to be commended more in in this particular situation. But with the Lakers, I just hope that they just get this over with and higher Theron Lou because I also feel like money Williams is going to be a mistake money Williams, not necessarily from all the discussions..

"Correct. But I mean the net. This is all on genie. Now, you've got an opportunity to reset. And instead, you're kind of hanging onto Pelinka. And you're not you're gonna let him make the coaching. Search. You're not bringing anybody in order of the way. It's being done is night. The right hire basketball, unless if it works, then you gotta go. Oh my God. What did she know that we didn't know if it doesn't work, then it's all her, right? But it's a lot like when LeBron came here. And then they signed all those guys that couldn't shoot and everybody including some of us like me were saying what the hell of doing? And then it ended up coming to fruition like Rex. Yeah. A lot of foretelling second-guessed. We I guess right. You know, first of all game two World Series against the Astros Puig out of position on an Alex bregman line drive should have been in the right position. He wasn't ready for the pitch. You gotta late jump. Here's out of position shaded too far towards center field. Right. You know, what he cost them game too? And that's sort of a microcosm of of what we has done. He makes exciting place, but he often and this is straight from anti McCullough ignores the positioning card distributed dodger defenders before games, according to six people familiar with the situation he on several occasions ripped up the card in front of the outfield. Coach, George Lombard and left the pieces on the ground. This is just a main Kirk. I said earlier that if you're going to do this. You can do it you. But you better be a great player. If you're not a great player. They're not gonna put up with your nobody's got more credibility in that dodger locker room than Justin Turner. Justin Turner, said this the frustrating part is that if Puig was good and played good. Then we would be really really really a good team. So everyone wanted him to be that good player. He didn't see it that way. He just thought as he was just going to show up and do whatever he wants. The best player you ever played with your best teammate in terms of talent in terms of talent. And the best player ever who Randy moss? Okay. So he's perfect perfect. Actually said this week would take plays off. That's exactly the knock on unready mon-. So at what point do you say, oh my God. "Hour reds last night. What on the road played the Padres and lost sixty to pay no attention to preseason exhibition. Baseball a final scores. They mean little here's what I I watched this game last night. I was flipping around. I was watching this watch little Murray state game last night. Joey Votto gotta hit last night. But you could tell bottles not statistically having a great spring. But you can tell by looking at what he's doing that Bado is playing with things he's playing with his worry. How he grips the bat. He's play with his swaying. He's playing with his time between pitches. He's I never really worry about Joey Votto in the spring. I know we got off to that clunker a start a couple of years ago. But I know what he's doing. He knows what he's doing more important. The other thing that struck me about that game last night Sonny gray Saudi great two innings to hits strikes out three. No walks burst outing of the spring. You could not ask for anything better from Sonny gray goes to goes to which means next outing. You hope he goes three which means next outing. You hope he goes four, which means you hope he's ready by opening day thought he play pitched well Amir Garrett threw the ball. Well, now Garrett was a little little wild with someone who's pitches or a couple that were up one of the dirt. But he throws an inning of scoreless. Hitless baseball thought he threw the ball very well and even for his rough spring as he's had Cody read through well last night in any two strikeouts. No walks by far his best outing of the spring. So even though the final score read six to the guys that most probably will be in the mix for a spot. On the twenty five man roster. I thought acquitted themselves well from pitching standpoint and Matt Kemp Matt camp. This is a guy I continue to sail be shocked if he's on the opening day roster. But danged if he doesn't have another to hit game he ever effortless. Swing on a double but easily beat out the beat the throw in the second base to for three for Matt Kemp last night guy sitting three thirty eight on the spring. So honestly, not bad not bad

"There was an angels player who would get hurt because he'd go for the wall. No genetics. This was Jim Edmonds. Matt camp the same day, you were talking about how like Gary we used to say, Gary Anderson, low first base, he loves would say, no, he doesn't. Yeah. He just runs really. I was thinking more along the line. Of Matt camp. And yeah, now, this is a real argument. Those guys you want your your outfielders going full speed after every ball. I don't know. I don't either. No, I don't go after every single Bob making an effort towards it. You still searching your d war numbers over there. If you want to go into it, even Yossi who's a great defensive player, and everyone's mind. All right. I'll be the first one to say because you guys won't I'm gonna miss you help week. I'm gonna I'm gonna miss the biggest star on the team. Yeah. And people are going to say, no, no, he's unpredictable. You couldn't would go over twenty has missed year. Yeah. I like to point was a value play. I don't know what he got an arbitration, but probably eleven to thirteen million dollars. I thought he was a steal at that price. And no, I think that the dodgers they may in fact, be a better team with HA Pollock. But he came off a year where he batted two sixty seven twenty three homers, sixty three RBI's. He also has a tendency to get hurt. He's never had a six hundred at bats season part of that is because he no most of that. Because he's gotten hurt. He's never had a six hundred bat season. But no, I'll miss him. Yeah. I think a lot of advance are going to miss this poker tournament. That's well in that. I made the final table twice. Yeah. I I made the second to last table the first time and the last table second time get anything for Megan. Gigantic hundred eighteen inch TV hundred eighteen inch eighteen inches. That's bigger than my eighty. Yeah. No. It's it's much bigger. Wow. I've I've a much bigger TV than it's in your living room. Now, I put it up for the neighbors, and they all pull their cars up and watch Dr. Come on over. I'm showing a movie tonight everybody pulls their car up. I find it watch Mohegan rhapsody over the weekend. It's great. Yeah. I mean, Molly there's there should be an investigation if that guy doesn't win. And by the way, I think that after I watched it, I think a lot of people did this. I went back on YouTube and watch the actual Live Aid the twenty one minutes at Live Aid, the Queen did right portrayed in the end of that movie that ranks up there like that rock and Roll Hall of fame tribute press does with a why make them be the greatest twenty minutes of rock performance. I've that that was the actual recording from Live Aid. Yeah. I downloaded on my right? They actually took out one song did then the end the real Live Aid. They played crazy little thing called love. And in the movie they played hammer to fall they start with rhapsody played hammer to fall then played. We are the champions at the end. And then Freddie, Mercury did that cool thing where he did the opera back and forth. You know, but it is Rami Molly should win best actor on. Oh, yeah. Dude. I in the only other time I felt like this is when I was watching Jamie, FOX play Ray Charles ever many years ago. That was where I thought like oh my God. I'm watching the Charles. I thought I was watching Freddie Mercury. And at the end of it, if you if you go and watch the real Live Aid, which is on YouTube, right? "Tori, did you see the story about Mike trout and Bryce Harper ending over the Phillies? No. I said I mean what what is that? There was no breaking news sounder now. I mean, come on. There is now there reports out there right now that Philly is trying to get Bryce Harper this year and in twenty twenty one they're going after Mike trout who apparently according to Jon Heyman of the MLB. Now, we're loves back east. He loves that that. Yeah, corridor that's his hometown right jerseys from jersey. Yeah. And that the angels will offer a will likely offer. You know, the that the angels aren't as likely to offer the extension now because maybe trout's not as interested in extending with them that this all of a sudden throws a wrench in everything. If I'm the dodgers like what the hell are you doing here? Like you. Gotta get something done. Yeah. You've got to get to what you've what you've really done is you've subtracted. Yes. Yelp Wigan Matt camp. And you've added a reliever Joe Kelly. This is there's not a lot to excite Najjar fans. No. And we all assumed it was because they were gonna make a play for Bryce Harper. Yeah. And increasingly they're not even being mentioned in these conversations about price. So Jeff passan came. On with me, whatever it was like a week or two ago. And he straight up told me like forget the dodgers and Bryce Harper. That's not happening. And what he said to me was they were going to push back a year and try to go after Nolan our not, oh, which. Yeah. That sounds great. But it is great but Nolan or not splits outside of cores are not great. Okay. He's at two sixty three guy. Batting average only four seventeen slugging percentage. Okay. Right. It's not great. He's a great. He's a gold glove third baseman, regardless. But he is not the same player outside of course, field offensively. Well, it you're stating see I assume that if they do not. Get Harper, and I wouldn't count them out. I mean, there's always like a mystery team. Right, right. There's always some mystery team. And Scott Boris has got his Forty-six page. Summit's summary of exactly what Bryce Harper escape. Right. We know Bryce Harper wants to be here. I I just don't get the sensor going to do it. I have a feeling they're gonna wind up signing. AJ? Pollock. I I do too Thirty-one-year-old. JJ Pollick is cool. But it's not necessarily. It's not Bryce Harper. Right. It's not getting everyone excited. I I would say this winning the off season is never necessarily is never a good thing in baseball. I don't think. No. But I think that when you have a team as good as the dodgers already. And then you can add a talent like that. I think that that's a little different. Because usually these teams that win the offseason are not good teams to begin with. Well, the the one thing I'll say is we live in a town now where we've got guys like Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald and Jared Goff in LeBron James. The dodgers have traded away their biggest most recognizable star import yet because you could say Puig made fundamental mistakes. And he would he would miss the cut off man, and he would be too aggressive on the. But you know, what he was always always fun and exciting to lie. He did the Beto aerobic thing by Instagram. Ing his dentist appointment reason. Oh, did he really have? But only Cincinnati fans are enjoying that now. Yeah. No, no, more dodger fans. Yeah. Yes. See so we're not part of that. We're not part of the Instagram. You know, yes. He'll pre holding a basket full of puppies. Right. Like, a powerful a kitten, and he would do all these goofy aids. Cute funny things, and it was awesome. And now there is no there's nothing. Yeah. I tell you. I just think it's inexcusable for the dodgers. And they're at about one hundred and fifty seven million on the books for his next year. Which is where you think payroll was is it top five still, no. It's probably closer to the middle of the pack and you're allowed to go to to await without hitting luxury tax, right? There's no excuse for the dodgers not spending every last one of those dollars man, especially because they're they're TV deal restrict seventy percent of the damn city from watching their damn games..

Non roster invitees coming to spring training with the reds here in just a couple of weeks. Nixon Zale among them. But the the red still deed a top of the rotation pitcher desperately now I follow Anthony Castro. Vents religiously on the MLB dot com website in the MLB network. Great baseball writer, Ohio guy. So he keeps it keeps his mind focused on Ohio. And I wanted to get him on to talk about just his thoughts on what the what the reds are up to. And I figured well if he's got some time this afternoon. Why not? So let's welcome in a guy who is rooted in Ohio. He is the Ohio guy at MLB dot com. And that is their cheap baseball writer. Anthony, Castro bits. Anthony. Thank you so much for joining us. Good afternoon. Absolutely. Somebody's gotta be the Buckeye guy has taken any trip up and down. I seventy one. Yeah. Yeah. I told you before we went on the air today. I I read your story in the wake of that trade the reds pulled off with the dodgers about three weeks ago. Yes, we will. Matt Cam, Alex would all coming here from the dodgers. I got the feeling after reading your story that you felt there was another shoe that was about to drop. So I guess the question to you is do you think the reds are are done. No. I don't think they're done. I don't think you make a move of that magnitude, and you go back to the Santa Roark deal where they took on the money that deal, but but really in the in the trade with the dodgers who's kind of a a war financially. But obviously it really upped the ante former twenty nineteen because you would as pending create. So that seems to signal that they, you know, feeling frisky between nineteen and I don't look at the roster right now and feel totally I particularly in that division. Right now, you know. There's more comment winter talking about having some, particularly I'm picturing, and you know, we really haven't seen much allocation of dollars so far. Jio was really the big expenditure. Yeah. Wave thing I'm expected, or I don't know what exactly. But I haven't spectrum. I'll tell you what the fan base down. Here is thinking, or at least a a great majority of the fans down here. At least the ones I talked to. They don't expect Matt Kemp to be on this roster come opening day for a lot of reasons not the least of which the guy just can't play defense anymore. Do you expect Matt camp to be on this roster on opening day? Or could you see him being flipped to another team? I don't know. I don't I don't know. I think it made sense for them to acquire term and the around that they did with a lot of money trading. Both ways. That was the way to make that deal work and the dodgers had this scenario a year ago where they acquired companies similar kind of transaction with the Braves. And they weren't able to find a taker for him prior to opening day, and then he turned up, you know. So out there. I don't know that you can count on that happening again at twenty. But you know, if I see him it's kind of a secondary piece more of a bench guy. But yeah, it's not like you're going to bring it up for the defensive substitution late in the game. And it's more impact. The playing time is obviously more complicated in the National League. But you know, I wanted to suspect that they would I would hope they wouldn't. I would hope they wouldn't his playing time come at the expense of Matt cancer. I I'm sorry. I wouldn't I would hope that he would play in front of com. So. Yeah. The opening ideas. But I just don't have as much of a market campus statue, well, they still need a center fielder. I mean, they don't have a bona fide center fielder. They say chevalier could play center field any probably could. But if you go kept lap shetler center Puig, and right, you're taking a big hit defensively from what you had last year. And you still get Jesse waker off the bench into the lineup. So let's say for the moment that you're advising the race or your the reds general manager. Do you go after in free agency, a bonafide center fielder before you go after perhaps a free agent starting pitcher? How would you play it? My club. I'm still going after one or free agent starter. And you know, I I.

"Also is Bryce Harper now going to the dodgers the dodgers made a big trade early. Today sending Matt camp yacht sale pleated and those are two guys at the dodger fans love that camp left. And then came back. He's a fan favorite and yacht sale. Puig a very popular player. There's a four pack of dodgers sent to the reds in what looks to be a payroll dump. Is that payroll dump the reason why they're going out to get Bryce Harper? I'll say this again at the top of the hour for a new audience. I would do anything to get Bryce Harper.

How deadline dominoes will fall following Machado deal

"Two hours, before the first pitch we. Go every Saturday. During the baseball, season we do it down on the. Farm reports and so were hitting them all and we're going to, cherry pick a couple of guys out clubbing yes Brendan Rogers we will talk about him We're going to hit all of the farm clubs and just to, a little half way were report essentially a midseason update on a few of, the guys that are down in the farm system and maybe some of these. Guys met Rogers going to be one of them we're going to. See, when they, expand the rosters to forty And is that ever going to go away Talks about it a lot last season The number got done with that that that won't, happen until the next collective bargaining agreement which. I believe is in twenty twenty one I get them confused with the NFL and the NBA NHL all the. Time to. The CBS's roll around here all right let's close the book on what has happened though in the, National League West and the, biggest story not only in the, division not only in the National League but in major league baseball and what could be probably one of the biggest traits that we have seen Midseason leading up to a trade deadline in, many years and that is, all star shortstop Manny Machado going, over to the dodgers egos get prospects and they weren't even really the absolute top prospects of the dodgers I think LA really made out, very very well ESPN's Tim Kirk and, talked about it, says, the dodgers pretty good and got better I think he's. A, huge difference maker I think he makes them the team to beat now in the nationally. The dodgers were pretty guard good anyway Kirk chin ads though that. The dodgers need to add to their pitching staff now whether, it's a starting rotation or in the bullpen they are. Going to need help, there Machado's, not the guy that's going to get them, over the top Machado is, a, guy that when the playoffs to roll around he's the guy that's gonna win. The game for. You he and Matt camp Justin Turner but to have a guy in the lineup let's go to get four five six ABC's, potentially in a playoff game and, the dodgers a play in game they are, wildcard Gabay, are looking at a seven game series and have a guy like Manny Machado in the lineup and was defense to. Boot that's pretty good adding one guy. When you're two games up doesn't mean you're going to sprint away from, everybody but it could happen. We watch, it happen with, the, Bax but this is the dodgers competence that they're going. To, make the playoffs and they needed that one more piece that one more bat to really. Put him over the top they were in the World Series last. Year three zero three seven one three eight five eight five, so that puts a rap on a five prospects from. The dodgers off the, Orioles the, dodgers look pretty darn good don't they coming, up for you we are, going, to go down on the farm and we will do that and we will. Talk about rotate.
