"Warmer yesterday island they're set to be on somebody Nibley and Yacob Poos both given press conference today, and they both talked a lot about the weather and about by the face of course, but also on the writers and how clothing choices are going to be. Now, they've put that bad apparently Nibley was on RAI television Italian television yesterday gigging up close the respective wives are he says, they're on the phone all the time Napoleon and Mrs Niebler Mrs Food here's a keen cyclist. Now she is. She's a keep fit fanatic showing up anyway. Should we dive straight into the questions Daniel before we do just? We've been trying to get up there on the mark cavendish situation. There isn't one is the short answer, but he died on the start list for a scallop race on Wednesday. Yes. I was sort of reiterate was said yesterday the stage it would be speculation to suggest he might meant with his interviews as a few people today close Tim connected with him. Some the it was just a case of him being very emotional yesterday. Possibly not meaning that he had the firm intention to retire but we we mentioned yesterday that things are moving at Bahrain McLaren staff changes, rider changes right as being contracts being renewed not. I think it's been offending tense few days as far as decisions or communicating decisions to the people they will affect whether mark has been told in the last few days. There's no place fame I do not know hey, guys. So my question is I'm a fan of other sports like NBA NFL in the sports. People are always talking about putting asterisks in twenty twenty season because there are no fans in the stands as bubble championship, etc. So I question is think that we will look back in the future at the twenty twenty and boots asterisks on the results for example of the A lot of riders leave the race because of Kobe or if the last stage of the style, the on the end. The Agnello artem. thanks a lot for your coverage. I'm looking for for these answer. Thank you lots of questions from Portugal from Diogo, Lopez? Not about his country's great success of this jogos concerned the promise. If he's concerned that the Joao Almeida holds on the, he wouldn't get the recognition that victory would deserve will to his great credit. His question wasn't as quite quite as one eyed as he seemed to have a wider concern of high will look back on the results Assira and I think most of them I'm thinking. Philippe at the World Championship you know Paul. Get. The Tour de France the woman asterisk against those result. Certainly, what happens to the remains to be seen? Of course we're speaking the rest of the Cova test today we'll hear moment from one. End and who I spoke today the U. Movies, MMA veteran I think in column always spoken and with some pre punchy comments by the Geo and covert will hear from him in a moment. But what what's your thought for your thoughts on that Daniel as we the Jira would depend who was forced to leave if it's only Simon. Yates. We we don't really know to what extent he was affected by and his performance was affected by Kobe symptoms. I'm may very well be that he wasn't going that well anyway. So it would take more riders Mogi see contenders to be eliminated. From the rights force already pose that question fortunately over under fortunately as far as we're concerned, cycling has a rich history of of results being caveated and richest what it does doesn't it and does you know you can go back through the animals of clean and the should be Australia's not just by winners. But by a lot of has happened in bike racing in stage racing in particular and simply not and you know that creates some embarrassment when when we talk about it years later and it creates difficulty in evaluating and comparing Reuters and eras, but and we've learned to live without having. Not, we'll be the case with everything that's happened this year I mean I anything the integrity of the competitions thus far has been maintained I. Agree. Am I guess the other aspect too is course we still talk about eighty four Jiro don't way which lost some climbs and there was suspicion of Francesco Moser getting some help in the time trial from helicopter he got in a helicopter no, not quite as part. But. We still talk about that. You know decades on 'em as being a kind of soft win for Moser so I wouldn't say there's an asterisk against his victory, but it's still a talking. Soft. Winds well who I mean he. Is Not beyond a recent ninety-six. He was a very dominant winner and there was no question again. ASTERISKS upon asterisk here because of course, he later confessed to doping by the time again, weather affected on stage and dominated. Let's take. A closer race and had the you know the the somebody else one perhaps, there would be more of a quite school of thought the had the had the fun time travel settimio maintained kilometers longer Yano recruited one too I think may be a better example. We'll one that no one really talks about is the two thousand, Thirteen Jiro with nearly one was quite bodily weather affected. In the last week, it was a whole stage that was struck off there and also climbs on another day I seem to remember and even two thousand and nineteen told France and there's this. There is a question mark over or who I didn't think it was I. didn't think people would say that it was soft and but the result might have been changed by what happened on the. Two days in the outs and a lot depends on the winner and and you know, Bernal. If he doesn't go on to another one, it might be looked increasingly operation in a way which seems unfair but it didn't win a stage of course. So it was a false kathy of less convincing wins even though at the time, he seemed like the most deserving winner as we discussed this remaining in thirty years time the. Page. For the Twenty Twenty Jared Tanya will say and I'm wondering whether you know this was in the first line. This'll be this was the covid Jiro or will you know this pandemic will go on for so long they will be self evident that this was a race that took place in that period will be desensitized to what this period in history has meant and has been or made the wins it but goes on to a story than glittering career as a grunter winner and then it will be seen in a different loyalty I mentioned this to justify emden today the schrader at..

"Well today was all about mark hair. She wasn't really until Sunday web and it was a stage that we thought was going to be one for a big breakaway. Am Thomas again was writer people were talking about? The. Matter took in the morning. thinking, you might be there. Obviously CCC trying to send someone up front maybe democracy but I mean Well, you know, Greg. Was No, which we've seen unfortunately well, his yeah I mean there was a big breakaway of big riders 'em, but they were never allowed too much time and we saw a lot of work on the Front from borough handscroll and CCC. And we sort of assumed that Boron score working for pizza gone especially after his disappointment of being relegated the previous day for using his head to move while Von Arts. Lots of debate and discussion about I. Think. It was the right decision You can't use your head play and. Even, as an obstacle, a selfie stick in your way I don't I, really don't think that was a factor in SA- gone using his head to try and move on our way. Yeah. Let's deal with that first before we move onto today stage because. One team manager I spoke to today suggested Saigon should have been disqualified from the tour entirely for that and. When you think back to the incident a few years ago with Mark Cavendish. Were kicked out of the tour. I think that may be would have been a bit too strong. Sagan, can hide woven are. Mean of an art is a very skillful. By kind loving somebody. We didn't really touch on I suppose last night was. Watching. The anyone's ridden a bike. Watches. An the speed they were going. Somebody makes contact with you. The. Just the ability to stay upright in that scenario is is quite is quite impressive and you an it's obviously a fantastic by handler. A lesser bike handler may well have not moment crash in the handlebars very close together sedan was kind of coming up. Behind them and not. Just the it was a you know handlebars. Together and Yeah, it was it was a dangerous maneuver. You know we shouldn't really judge these things by their outcomes because. You know. It could have caused a terrible crash. And on a lesser. Crime if you want to call it. May. Also caused a terrible crush. We can't really judge these things by the outcome is the maneuver itself and I think salons was very, very dangerous. While I think the Assumption Sega make. She's everyone's who's gifted a by kind lord here is. Not Necessarily van? Yeah clearly is but I mean. Just. Just, the UH. The whole. Premise of whether or not you should move your head in a sprint and really. There's no excuse for that. So. But. It was interesting to hear as a team manager suggests that again could have been kicked out of the race rather than just relegated for that move. Today. Perhaps. He did feel like he wanted to make amends I. Mean He did win or get some points the finish line. To sort of narrow, the gap a little bit on on San or at least. Not the gap open up anymore but. Whether or not they were confident Saddam would get over that final climb. To the finish, I don't know look to bit much. We'll read when climbing Mont Direst Lucas Postal Burger who've was very visible again, they didn't work and he'll be able to tell us what thinking I mean in the end Mac Shagman got was up there and it was a good stage for him and he's writing better and I don't know whether he was plan B or plan today and I think anybody could really be Hershey. Hershberg shocked Mun road pre well, probably given where he's coming from with a broken collarbone they suffered before the race probably quite happy Yeah. The the the last cycling race I I. SO obviously for lockdown, whispering needs and and I got locked down the day after Peres and and Chapman at that time of the season was absolutely brilliant and you tell what? What? The modern potential worldwide force he could be even in the grand? Tour. I mean like many many riders crashed. Coming into the Tour de France with the nervousness of. The. Release the freed brutal. It's been fortunate for for him to have ridden the tour in half of the tour. We still probably feeling the pain from user carbon a fracture. As you say, look much better today a didn't finish far. We kind of hoping. The third week because he's an incredible talent is A. Great all-rounder and my impression to to answer a question was that the plan at least in the in the finale was all for Shagman pro pretty much more than for. Sagen. Because let's face it. Now with the deficit is is got towards Bennett it'll be super halt for Sega and. You shines in in ops to to make up for lost time. So I want combat personally on the sprint on yesterday sprint because as I said yesterday, I don't like to to you have endless discussions about you know a referee in every sport and my rural as always been that you know I is I suppose Comey Sarah's no more despite the night. Do they have more documents to analyze more videos more more were tested testimonies to to to study and in the Indian the decision they made or pause probably the right one Mark Harsha though I mean. Not Not, just today and not just the parodies but in nieces well. He's been one of the most consistent writers to get up there to try and win a stage and it happened for him. Finally I suppose today he's very impressive looking writer am. Iran he looks very once again the way I mean he was way for ninety kilometers and the weekend today it was a it was thirty thousand sequences still quite a long way to go and with some strong chases and how by having teammates behind no doubt. That a great job to set them up for the attack once he got away. I don't know whether he's a good time trial must I must admit but he looks very aero bite phrase quite narrow handlebars and I've thought. Sunday on today and he's looked good and not in not you know once he's once he's away in. Time trying to finish. He looks very, very strong indeed, and then I don't really know what kind of writer he could become. AM He's right bill to be get on the climbs good in the longer climbs we obviously saw on.

"Sis Cpi twenty-five as I twenty five and thank you signs in sport now. I mentioned that I went to McLaren them. A contact contact center yesterday to meet up with Rod Ailing Worth 'em he has taken over Bari Morita. They will have vein. You look at the next year and you name you. Luke and new writers Vincenza Niba around whom the team was really built in their early. UH early years. The first few years and he's moved on became Landa looks to be their main guy for G C and he will go to France as the leader Roy made it very clear that he won't have any internal competition for that while polls has gone there as well. And if got mark cavendish of course and You know one or two other impressive. Rightists monthly March didn't have a great year very exciting talent as well even Garcia Spanish writer who you know Luke Saville Filippo Ghana. He were talking about quite begging strapping and looks like he's got a lot of potential in the classics basics. So interesting to hear how. He's settling into his new job. Shall we hear from him now here is talking about signing mark common dish rush and losing Rohan. Dennis I think a Lotta people. All I'm vicious may be scared to push it to the limits schedule the bolt on the table and go and and it's a little bit like count is join this for next year. My point of view is you know. There's a hell of a lot of speculation speculation around you know he's finished everything else but you you you you you look at the facts and you think well no the. There's nothing to say he cannot win. You know I do want to do is. He may be a point where he won't win anymore. But there's one thing official damn well try. He's going to try for gas wig joyful gus wife he does win again. And he's a prolific again. He's only thirty. Four well experienced oldies. Love experience you know. It'd be a shame if we hadn't taken we don't Kucha Tight Campbell and that's for me is is about the But then again beep. If you have to send up to all say didn't quite work out premium we tried and I'll I'll I'll give anybody who are who so to you. slugged is off because of that. You know it's like who are trying hard here is it has a field to be. I mean he's somebody go back to our guests. Well fifteen ears was so now. Does it. Feel to be reunited. Lightness happen happen quite late. To be honest it wasn't like the bottom line. It wasn't the first thing we were thinking. Because just you know there was a lot going off with the team and so happened. Why I I think the him joining the team is if it's really well with McLaren you know? He's being unimpressive. Become time for a long time and some of the projects done in the past so that all works. Well you know I think marks that point where you know. It'll be a big story. If we can turn it around. You know which would be great firs. I think he knows he He's going to get the simple and just backing. You know what it is so yeah. We're super excited to be honest here. Will you be pushing him again now. I Won't be coaching. But you know he's like anything. I Oh you know. My background is coaching and not performance. So you know cost the whole team. I'm going to be. I WANNA be over the coaches. We got four fall four full-time coaches and I'll be all over them. In terms of performance plans. And what we're doing so it'd be very active Stephen around them guys are the risks. Sort of mentioned them there and taking on on Mark He's not a difficult difficult couple of years he's had it will have 'em are there was something to think about quite carefully before well. There's always racism. Waste isn't with everybody and suddenly when he's been sick for a couple of years or a good year in a bit. You know an had all the issues if you lie. Can somebody somebody who was a prolific winner and then lose. Confidence is always a question and you have to question. I mean we we. We sat down as a management group in said county win again and I was like like I think he can win again and if it was no don't think he can win again. I don't think he would've been here. This certainly isn't a meal ticket. I'll be really strong with him and set up and and to be fair to hate me. He's like I don't want it to be Milton. I want to work hard. I'm very I do think he's got over the illness I think he's in a completely different mind space now now in his career you know. And that's where I'm sort of saying he's experienced. He's not old is still you manually before and I think he's still got a good head of what was it. Felt like for you. Even led the team into a ratio. Don't if you're going to Australia to the third and under yeah Yeah why do you think it will feel for you to go from being the the someone who was in the background teams them. mm-hmm all crawl very important figure. You weren't you did tend to be in the background. How do you think it will feel free to be in the foreground to be the the main man in different? I think you know and you know if a moment I was one of the myself personally was one of the things I really did consider was was purposely at never mind talking to people.

"Okay we're gonna stick with marquis I body have gotten all that we want to only one of him moving the rally there's one more thing mark Cavendish welcome back thank you very gracious of you guys I wanted to let you know that I am pretty sure I have the only real stand up for Betsy Ross teacher there there were a number of counterfeiters selling them when I came out of the garage and you could tell they they were just cotton and it was hot and I stayed nice and cool so everything you're telling everybody about the quality of this teacher is right on well I'm glad for that endorsement and I appreciate it and the knock offs it's it's and we're up to over three hundred now and we've dealt with with enough of us a number of them but they keep they keep popping up which is in itself an indication of just how hot and popular the item is our legal team has not stopped chasing these people down and it's just it's it's a may even with all this heat on him even with as much attention has been focused in telling people do not bite knock offs they keep popping up because people all you have to do is go to Google if you can't remember the address to my website or if you haven't heard it let's say you're seeing somebody where his word you got that Rush Limbaugh store what words what around searching on Google I can't say go to Google and Google doesn't return my show as a search result because I am course conservative and I'm not among the favored so all of these knock off site send up being returned and people on aware end up going to them I have gone I've got breathless trying to warn people to stay away from the knock offs when you buy a knockoff none of that is going to the tunnel to towers foundation none of it the fraudsters are keeping it all they're not selling high quality stuff by definition we only sell one kind of fabric tee shirt and we all know everyone that's been made in the country by the way everyone in the color white we all know everyone not all of them been printed yet we own everyone Hey Marc thanks up thanks much okay on to Mr Jay Z. and the NFL because there are people in the sports drive by businesses that are not happy with Mr Izzy yesterday I made I made an observation we played a sound bite of Mr Z. what is joint press conference with Roger Goodell if you miss this the NFL made a deal with JZ JZ is now in charge of music at the NFL including the halftime show the Superbowl every year and there was a joint press conference and there's a lot of people I'm happy with JZ because they thought JZ was on Colin Kaepernick side the JZ was all for the protests of the flag of the national anthem and they were going to keep it up until some team hired Kaepernick and gave him a job yesterday JZ so there was never about cap this was never about Kabataan cap but had a call with a cap what you wouldn't cap talk well I'm not gonna tell you what we talked about but I told cap it's not about him get a job it's about much much more math so today amber Janelle hill they really angry activists who was a journalist at CS at ESPN ended up being fired for all of the anti trump tweets she's not got a a job at the Atlantic and she has written of she just won't stop on a loan on JZ and she gets close to it but then pulls back because these are rich African American billionaire and she doesn't want to get on his bad side but she is not happy without he threw Kaepernick overboard because all these other people thought that all of this was in solidarity with Kaepernick they get Kaepernick a job do allow Kaepernick to continue to protest the flag to protest the cops to continue to a lot Kaepernick to protest America that that's what everybody was focused on and now Jay Z. has done a deal with the NFL taking their money where Kaepernick isn't even a factor so there's a lot of people disappointed a lot of people angry but they're also people very happy here is Michael Eric Dyson well known well the guy is a racist is it is it is it the African American is a professor port Princeton I guess but of course African Americans can't be racists you see because they don't have the power to discriminate against anybody so they can't be risk you can't call them racists but the guy yes and he's angry and these militant and as such he rarely makes much sense so it was on CNN this afternoon talking about all this I'm sorry Georgetown professor I thought he was at Princeton maybe he wasn't Princeton at one time so Breanna killer is the info Babe she said do you think Jay Z. is better positioned to affect change in this role the NFL music director that if he didn't have this deal with them of course JZ is saying that like Jesse Jackson Jesse Jackson will go out in protests al Sharpton without protest you're doing wrong we gonna call you to account then when those corporations of those businesses would come to the table and say what can we do to make things better then you've got to have a blueprint you got a plan Colin Kaepernick's protest is extremely necessary taking a knee is extremely necessary now what's the follow up you need me to translate this what what do you think you just said Mr certainly let me to even take a flyer on this what is no I'm not he is praising Jay Z. as a shakedown artist in the same vein as Jesse Jackson and al Sharpton that's why he's in praising him he said Jay Z. has learned his lesson he learned well like the Reverend Jackson like guy like al Sharpton go out in protest and your bring these companies to the table he didn't say I'd be shaken down they give your money to go away and that's what JZ is done here Kaepernick's front test that was necessary taking in the very necessary but that then and this is now Kaepernick was useful for awhile but now JZ is rendered Kaepernick unnecessary now before we get to the Janelle hill story in the Atlantic there's one more a bright bart story former ESPN personality Jamelle hill has accused the owner of the New England.

"Course. But it's like it'll be a monthly show. I one we'll come later this week and I've listened to episode one in it's fantastic. I haven't listened to on yet. I'm going to listen to on my way home from London today, very much looking forward to it because the challenge we set Tolman care wall to make the, the, the business of bicycles and equipment and the technical side of the sport work in audio without people being able to see the equipment being talked about. And I, I think from. Mode of the discussions that we've had I'm confident that they've cracked it. Well, I mentioned this new podcast rose, and Orla while I was at the women's too. When I initially mentioned that they both shoot their heads and said doesn't sound like something. I'll be interested in, when I then explained the approach, they were taking they both ended up saying, yeah, that does sound interesting because it's very much about human stories, as well as the people as well behind the bikes in the equipment, and the some fascinating stuff in there about e bikes. There's a an interview with rob Hayles who is really his his career in bikes. But also, he now has workshop where he repairs carbon bikes, as well as many other things, including wedding rings. But that's that's really good. Really interesting role on a subject that he really knows an awful a by, so it's, it's really good. I thought it commended, give service cool. We'll be out on Friday. It will. No, let's look ahead again to the front some teams in high. Hi there shaping up. I think there are many if any teams who've really confirmed, their lineups you movies Ma and have a more or less confirmed their lineup. But if you refer to the website, pro cycling star switch, we do a lot there long less on their their some teams have confirmed, just a few writers, and one of the big questions is team dimension data. Mark Cavendish and whether he will make the team trying to add to his thirty stage wins at turn of France. What's the latest on that Donyo related says that no one really knows, including come Nash? He wrote the tour of India over the weekend. It was four stages long couple sprint stages in didn't really feature. The were there were couple of nasty climbs towards the end of those stages. So they were they were quite selective comedy student as a really compete in sprint finishes, his team Giacomo Nate solo when the final stage which finished in a sprint. And company hasn't had the best season these coming back from Epstein Barr virus trying to regain some fitness trying to regain full and trying to regain some of the racing sharpness. He lost through a long period of absence. What the end of loss in particular, and it hasn't quite clicked yet, and obviously, hasn't quite clicked for dimension data, which, you know, maybe improves his position. His outlook makes them more likely to pick him. But Doug right in the money to that will only pick combination. I'm sure if he thinks he can pull something out in one sprint finishes. Maybe the first stage may be. His first stage win could be could be one, the yellow jersey Lionel if you were Doug writer, would you.

"I mean, he wouldn't be so disappointed about Michigan that year in interview. If he'd been told were your your in line for place in the tour de France, he's gonna have to scrap for a place in the two of the front just at heart and everybody out. And of course, the tool Peterson GAM will be the number one. When it comes to any stages to a likely to finish in a sprint Trisha, really unfortunate position for for Bennett. But what can you do other than what he said he was going to get head down and try and get some results whenever he has the opportunity. I think napalm you mentioned Saigon there and the the gift and the curse with Saigon is that he. Effectively like three writers lot of the time. You know, you sent him to race and he's your sprinter. He's your punch and his your breakaway specialist, and that doesn't leave a lot of space for for example, seconds sprinter. It just wouldn't make sense to send some Bennett to the Toyota frauds and from sponsors point here in from team manages point of view that the beauty the great value of Saigon is the he does cover all of those roles in in any given race. So therefore, you can send your other sprinter or one of your the sprints somewhere else and other worlds to another world till right, but often or most of the time other worlds rice, he's less prestigious and from from the sponsors from boar hunts point, he's working out perfectly and have some benefit because you know, he's gonna win races win five to ten or even more races this year. But. Not not necessarily going to align with his personal ambitions. And. Yeah, I think have been opportunities helping discussions thoughts about him. Maybe leaving the team. I think astronomer interested at seven point. And there's a lot of the wealth without a sprinter without a good sprinter that we'd gladly take him. But yeah, you had him there about the equipment as well. And this is something that's cropping up more and more when you talk to sprinters in particular, and I've had conversations sprinters in the last couple of years really emphasize importance now of the bike in particular, and, you know, without sounding like an odd material because because it's not because I didn't know the first thing about bikes really am. I did I did a quick tally of the bunch prints one by Reid is on specialized bikes last year. So that's quickstep writers for borough, and they wouldn't seventy three. Bunch prince lost year between those two team. Well, yeah, you didn't have to read too far between the lines of what Mark Cavendish was saying earlier this year about how he he's equipment couldn't compete with with the best in in the peleton and it. Now, he couldn't compete with Sagan on on an even fifteen wasn't big and the implication wars and baby. Ana he'll cement. The thing that I both have in common core winding specialized bike, so. Yeah, there's definitely something in not deciding. Podcast is supported by sciences. Sports science and sports fueled by science..

"Crash has been cleared to the right shoulder. Thank you. Peter KCBS news time eight fifteen. Is it for sports news right now here Steve stand the cycling world was rocked on Monday. With the news that former cyclist and longtime tour to FRANZ TV analyst Paul Sherwin died suddenly on Sunday of a heart attack at the age of sixty two Sherwin seventy five year old play-by-play voice. Phil Liggett had announced the last thirty three tour de France racist together, and you could safely say they were one of the most popular play by play an analyst television duos in American TV history. They've really were remarkable. It's a niche sport. Of course, bike racing is not the NFL. But here Paul Sherwin help call arrays, you just understood what was going on now going clear and two sprinters were very attentive and soul that move one of them. Peter saga who's writing here with a green jersey on his back and Mark Cavendish? Just kind of brings chills to me to hear the voice. We're joined now by Jason gave great Wall Street Journal sports columnists, and Jason you you wrote a piece about the passing of Paul Sherwin talking to Phil Liggett, it seems. Inconceivable that the tour de France will be telecast next summer without Paul Sherwin. Yeah, they all fail and Paul have been not just the voice of the tour de France. But a way for people to get into the sport of cycling. I mean, they really were a bathroom just for the sport. And there was there's no job like it. In sports broadcasters. Imagine three week bike race. The stages are four to five hours long on the air. It's almost like doing a telephone every day for a month, and it required incredible. Endurance. But also, obviously this remarkable relationship between the two man born thirty miles apart in northwest England, I've just had an incredible relationship, which is unparalleled in sports. And with my partner Steve here who has done major league baseball broadcasts. These guys not only did the broadcast together, they traveled all the way around France together. One driving the other reading the map. You know, I didn't come up with by other people have said that the tour France is like having a Super Bowl every single day for twenty one days, and it really is like that inside this travelling circus, and you have to finish the stage you have to get into your car, and you have to drive up time hundreds of kilometers. So the next stage travel together, Paul always feel always navigate it. They always the hotel had a glass of wine coffee in the morning. It just you know, there's you know, there's so many things about their partnership, which are special. But I think the fact that they lived in such close quarters worked such I had to travel all the time very really really ache. Can you think of any other broadcasting tandem that has those qualities not just being great on the air, but traveling together and sharing love of wine and coffee and and entertaining audiences for hours and hours in single days? Colleague into this. I mean, they're probably happen. Some broadcasting channel that were closed off the air as well and traveled for years. I just think with the sport of cycling, it's such a strange because as you know, it, it's a somewhat complicated sports. Explain it you can just sorta sit down and say, well, this guy who's not actually winning stages winning the race technically in the person up the road isn't gonna actually win. There's a lot of translation that has to happen. So it requires is incredibly unique skill set to both. Appease, the people who know the sport love the sport. Forever. Coming into it for the first time since this story heard from so many people who are Paul who you really didn't have much of a connection for bike racing. Hearing talk about the race and the French countryside of the history of you know, these guys would spend ten minutes talking about a five hundred year old church in the countryside as the Palatine path. Jason thanks for taking the time with us this morning. We understand Jason pulled off to the side of the road. Jason gave from the Wall Street Journal, great stuff. Great stuff. A very nice piece if you can find it online, title cycling's, Phil says goodbye to cycling's Paul the passing way too young the age of sixty two apparently of a heart attack of Paul Sherwin the noted bicycle racing broadcaster. KCBS first for traffic. Let's get back to our roads right now. Peter Scofield's in for Kim Wunderle this morning in San Jose to eighty southbound.

And yeah, we have in the morning and we went for breakfast. I said, what's what we can do like going to organize going to organize your now? Then I call my friend. And I wanted to organize your just for. For us and maybe for life, and then maybe for nine people and they're going to call his wife. Giovanni has his wife with him and the time I was also together my wife. And I called my friend and he told me like, I have special offer for you, and I say, what kind of offer, like you have big bold like Christie now for a very good price for you and is much better than the small I said. Okay. And how many rooms. It's for twenty people are something like that. I said, okay, let's doing. Are you going to call my familiar and everybody from Slovakia, friends. Then I. Make to calm them from Slovakia. We organized flies for, I think twelve people from Slovakia and they went in Monte-Carlo day after in the morning and just started our holiday tree before four days. And and you had an accident on the boat, you not your teeth? Yeah. Yeah, never need the thing and nobody knows they do not. Them, but that must not send quite serious. I mean was involved. How did it happen? Oh, well, all holidays, alcohol, but it was more about accident than jacuzzi on the boat. And you know the grill around Cousy and I stepped on the grill and real felt inside and my legs of stock in in that hall. And after I just, yeah, crash on the top of the Jack woozy angle thing. So those are those folks teeth you go there. Yeah. Very real. Also signs that Cousy. Hi, Heidi. Get on with Mark Cavendish now because I know that the, you know you kind of you were friends you made up, but higher relations with him that, yeah, I made him also this into the France, but he's still angry. Yeah. Well, I did everything I didn't do that. What's happened in purpose, but in the end after all the analysis than you can see just accident. And also from his side, he went from the back then. Then when I can do I told him, sorry. If I fell also down than the what is going to be better for him better feeling or I don't know. I just try to survive a nice day on the bicycle. I finish the stage and just happened what happened and the live is cutting. For him was I saw this year than he still angry some pizza gone. Why said at the end there but his relation with Mark candidate seems broken diner, I, I was quite not surprised because we knew this. There seemed to be quite sinus on his part. At the he feels he's apologized and that he wasn't the if he hadn't moved his album in the way that he did that he would come down to the incident and but he didn't labor that point. And it seemed to me more a feeling of sadness has relation Emaar communists broken down. So there are lots more of the father was quite interesting and especially insight into the days a spans. "I s c p twenty five scientists sports come. I'll be loading up with scientists, sport products tomorrow. I suspect that will not be enough. So. No, you know still still be good on. You'll probably get might get to seventy miles and set of say, fourteen. To hear about this, sport jails and bars, and so on, and you're gonna make per episode about your ROY tomorrow. They'll be no new recording allied anywhere near it. And anyway, I'm really looking forward to. She can tell 'em we've got a long Peterson gone to play in a moment. But before we do any talks about his relationship with Mark Cavendish in this interview and Mark Cavendish news, maybe Daniel. Well, we're waiting waiting an announcement from cabinet, but we think it's been a bit of a shock turn of events the, namely that he is going to renew his contract with dimension data few weeks ago podcast that there was no chance to the happening, but we've never pretended that we everything. But at that point it did seem inconceivable rich because it's any secret that the relationship between Doug Roida who is the team principal dimension data on comedies wasn't great at the end of the fronts, and communist was was unhappy with with various things off to that. Subsequent to that, we found out the would still suffering with Epstein Barr virus which already suffered from in two thousand two dozen seventeen. And there were a couple of other options. It seemed like on the table there was talk of there with Bahrain. Morita communists was gonna come on board with McLaren. I'm read what kind of entertainment Clarinex beyond being a Formula. One team. What was that? Would dynamic era dynamic persists and experts in all of that kind of thing? No. Paste, but do they have any? How else do they? I mean how they make money. Good question. They make cars, don't they? I mean, they make cars, they sell as well. McLaren cars, racing cars. I mean, clearly billion Joan terrible. Anyway, I, it seems as not deal with too many obstacles to that deal happening, not least the communist comes with a sizable on terrar- Bernie OI. So rental row foul dog the he's in the management dimension died. So that was one of the obstacles that were others. And so from almost prosecute point of view, the thing that was gonna make my sense walls for him to stay at dimension data, and he has always had an excellent relationship with the sponsor dommage days of the company itself. And I think that was probably decisive in the end, obviously there he's health issues to to Soltau over the next couple of months. He's been in the gym along in the last month or so. So he can't do a lot of aerobics, but he's very, very motivated and to get healthy again and and to prove a lot of people wrong who've been rising. He certainly believes the this life in the old dog yet. And he can compete very high level in in sprint in France. When I was a short lived return to an orange jersey in one thousand nine hundred nine, the yellow jersey turn gold. It was a subtle change, but in two thousand and ten, there was a more radical departure as adopted red leaders, jersey Pauline spot by the rate in the Spanish flag and to differentiate it from the tour to France and partly inspired by the national football team. "The time trial stage of the threat of France that will that will settle this year's tour to record our third press conference where we listen to your questions that you've phoned in and try to answer them as best we can. So let's just crack on with that. Shall we have the first question, dear Richard Lionel Daniel greetings from India. My name is Cindy attritional and I'm a longtime this podcast, really enjoy your cycling incites, but a bigger fan of non cycling Bantu really, I have a question about Chris from how do you comment on who is capable of Vinnie or at least featuring in of consecutive Trent. Average pro, he gets completely rundown. Even completing one is it that he's physiologically a freak of nature or our team sky masters in managing his and their team's efforts within the tours. I find it extremely contrasting when we hear from other pros of how hard it is to make the time cut every day for the twenty one days. Thanks a lot for your regular podcasts and keep the band going on the vine fluent she has guys. Well, thank you. Sundeep for your question that saying I call we've ever heard from India, so it's great to know that people are listening. There is talking about Chris room. Does that count non cycling related Vannatter. Can this? Well, Sunday phone is question before. I think before we the race hit the Pyrenees on the race, ran away with Chris from as we speak from his fourth. He's not going to win his fourth grand tour in a rule. But the question is still valid. When some writers, you know, talk about the toll grand through it takes on them and you know, in particular, we've been talking about trying to double up with the Jiro and the tour. And the question cer- certainly valid, Tom Demere on of course, second Jiro and certainly still in contention here the tour. But there's this quite low of writers here who have written Jiro and the to an unusual number this year few. The key domestiques I mean, pulls team sky chant Haga team, son, web, I think more than normal. I think partly because of an extra weeks recovery between the two races. And, but also another another thing I was looking just the race days. All these guys have done 'em from didn't race very much told before the Tom to moolah. And if you compare their race days with the other writers who are having to write a much filler program, they've raised fewer days than a lot of the lesser writers. Yeah, I think the guys are the top of the are the real outlaws in the school on they. They are by definition physical freaks. They are the best of the best. But that just because rided in the group Atto in amounting stages are working extremely hard to make the time cut the margins pretty small, forty four thirty five to forty five minutes over one hundred fifty to two hundred kilometers these small mountains and. That's not, you know how the sport operates. The is the talk are the absolute best, but the guys who are just about making in a still, whoa, cloth athletes. And I think we saw from the stage that was the attack tool for the matures Mark Cavendish was eliminated. Was it the day before you know, look look grown on stage, I think, but on whichever day the attack was the guys in the group petro were in quicker than the winner of the attack. So that kind of puts into context how good these, right at all on the weld stories and films with the most compelling characters wells, finest explosive.
