"I did actually mean to I meant to mention your your your podcast at some point in because. I really enjoyed your recent one with Pete Kanye and Marcel Kissel 'em on retirement on the subject retirement. It's great. Listen if anybody wants to hear. 'em It's clear that can you not always the easiest guy for us interview 'em, but you clearly know him very well and a great report with him and he really opened up to you and I thought you're you know you got the best of him and it's a great listen. A lot of your podcasts have been great. But that's enough of that. Let's move on. Breakfast bars you'll find it on all all your podcast Apps M. Yes. So listen we're going to here in this part from one of our audio diaries, Joe Dombroski writing for you E. team emerets and a good friend of yours in. He is yeah. I Joined Team Sky Twenty, thirteen with Joe and we've spent many many years racing together both on on action and then at team sky and we both changed teams Yeah, he still lives still is a niece and I lived just down the road. We've spent countless days and hours riding our bikes together. I mean guess what you were contemporaries. Were there is at the Jira we're going to hear from him soon he thought we know that he's been unwell is at a couple of really rupee days. way struggled to finish and but. Having, been through so much with him knowing him so well been. Tracking each other for so many years. Am Is it strange for you to think of him off their writing the Jira while you're at home there in Vermont? no magazine kind of come to terms that a lot of my friends are still still off racing and I. You know for some reason early on in Joe's career, he'd really fell in love with Italy I. Think it probably started when he won the Baby Giro in twenty twelve he beat Fob Yaro and I was actually there helping him. At that race and I actually caught a stomach bug and had to drop out on. I. Think it was the tornado climb stage that he won but Yeah. I. I caught a stomach bug was out of the race and thankfully joe still in Italy racing but it just it just dawned on me Harun him sending his his audio file that. You know riders have so few chances at at grand tours and Joe's coming off twenty, twenty, a twenty nineteen. He had a phenomenal Jiro I think he was ten or maybe eleventh or twelfth. And he really was expecting this year to kind of climb the ladder in have another big opportunity at the Jiro. Obviously, things were changed due to Cova but. He did start the show and had highest. And it just crazy to realize that something as small as a stomach bug you know that's one one year and one grand tour that. You know the JOE's knock can have an opportunity to go for for G C in that you look at any cyclist career I know this probably better than most at this point is you know can end at any point and the fact that you know that's one one race that does not going to be able to go for G C you know could ultimately be one last year hopefully can recover and come back in the third week and maybe go for a stage win or help help McNulty. Somebody. Else that struck me today watching the coverage Rob Hush talked a little bit about that teams and that's eighteen. Emirates kinda history and writers have been through that last system and he he mentioned if. It sealed Lampre team and when you look at them now what they've become. Almost, impossible to marry that with at the old lampre team who were always kind of serial underperformers or very, very Italian team. Am who didn't really punch much of a whole latterly am as you eat team Emirates nine were not particularly this year they're real powerhouse. You know they've they've won stages here that got lots of talented young writers by the melting among them and Yeah. Just that that disconnect between the alarm preteen Mo, the modern US remember it's struck me today but let's hear from Joe. Here's Joe Dombrowski. Good morning from the morning of the second time trial here at the Jiro were stage fourteen great stage win again and for us from Diego yesterday. Reduced Bunch Sprint You know actually borough was controlling in the race and I think they thought they had a good chance but. I also think that the climbs were probably a little bit harder than maybe what everyone expected and in the end, it was a pretty small group of. Really more I would say, Gee, see type guys that were in front and. You know someone like Diego that can make it over is for sure one of the fastest out of a group like that and Mick McNulty gave him I. Think a good lead out in the last kilometer and. Use, able to win the stage. So it's it's good for us Today we've got a time time-trial. You know a t in the middle of the race like this for a lot of guys. Is a bit more of an easy day You know if If you can. Win The t t or do a great ride. Then it's something different or if you're running for juicy then of course it's you know one hundred percent effort but also a lot of guys look to this as kind of a day to take it a bit easier me personally for me it'll be. You know a chance to recover a bit. Said my last update I picked up some kind of stomach bug after the first day in this week's been quite a struggle for me We actually I was talking with the. Team. Doctor before. The chess. NAUTICA. stage. Yesterday And we weren't sure if I was GONNA start or not because it was really. An and to be honest, the fact that I finish the stage was already a surprise it was looking doubtful but I'm hoping that. yesterday I was able to take it. It'd be easier, and then also today in the t t the plan is to just kind of take it a bit easier and. I'm hoping that I'm able to kind of bounce back from that and have a good final week It's just been. You know anytime you get a sort of stomach virus it can really be pretty draining Yeah looking forward and Then tomorrow is the last day before the rest day there's been. Speculation about whether the fact that Whether and or cove it could have an impact on the final week You know if the final week is raised at all or if potentially. Some of the climbs before summit finishes or removed And whether that would impact the tactics of the teams I think you know where it quite a. To be now, stage fourteen in the juicy is actually very tight. In terms of time I mean I can't remember a grand tour where. It's been so tight this late in the race. And I think. Some of that is owed to the fact that you know we did AETNA. And that was really the only summit finish the race we also finished at. Roca Rosso but. It's not such a hard finish I. Mean I think? In Front in the G C group, there's probably twenty five of us. Going into the last kilometer. So it's not particularly selective and other than that. It's been just a T- There's been a lot to break up the race and it's kind of a waiting this final week tomorrow staged vol. There's some climbs before. I don't see any teams that are..

Actually at the heritage pages of the official website. While it's letting the tour to tell you that. But if you go to your website and sages boring you can you can click on heritage and you know all about the little towns we're going through and you'll find out that some of the comments here on television I was going to say. They've been borrowed from from somebody. Right the Guy Working on the. Social Vinnie is a little hilltop medieval town. A medieval fort behind us. Very attractive peyot yellowstone which wind with. Twinned with Bill Ricky, and. Very similar. Oh well. Rick remember some of the jury I'm not going to sing that. But. Now he's very pleasant and Well, we have three lovely nights in Laura Show and Haven't really updated listeners on my culinary exploits but I think the Goldeneye from fork belongs to lower shallow the moment because over a couple of days had a very, very nice starter, which was I smoked macro with the Little Beetroot Crisp and I and a solid, very fresh vinaigrette, and then last night's main course was for me the best of the tool so far grilled octopus on A. While they called it a caviar aubergine coriander and now I wouldn't accept curry. I wouldn't put aubergine and Corey under together. But it went perfectly and the octopus was very well cooked I. Think Francois. You gave a thumbs up as well. Yeah. We're the same and. The the thing about this when when he's not well cooked, it is kind of. rubbery or you know and but these were he was melting. You know I in the mouth was really really sweet and. Your was was amazingly cooked and. Very very delicate. I mean no real Wrigley I love octopus could I could eat you know creatures with tentacles a all day and it's one of these one of the best time to go I'm we. Introduce las here Francois but we had red wine with our a light red wine with our seafood. I mean as a connoisseur. Offended me lost here but I've I've grown to like. Yeah. Yeah. Because some of the some of the. Seafood you can get is is is very meaty and anti-sihanouk little bit sweet and we actually last night we had. Two bottles of Margot. Margarita is partially wind. Three. Forty Poverty Expanded Grit we had dinner with on TV crew and from America who are making A. Behind. The scenes film with E F. If, you enjoyed the movie star Netflix series. Then they're seeking to do something similar with the F. on a seems to be going well for them in service unusual year. So that south thing. Interest. Yes. Was By for Morgan connoisseur under the the two connoisseurs in listened to the podcast was gone by muscle up here. Of course, the roles of the Morgan almost a stage on with the site cling indeed. Well, we're heading inland again, quite a strange tour and we've come all the way. East to West from the the southern part of the Alps to the appearance as and then the transfer. Now the race goes back across said, it's like a you ban it isn't. Going to Paris, kind of zigzagging across fronts. But. We're kind of we came across the some of the Massey Sandra and we're going back across the northern part and the massive stone trolleys massive as seclusion the name anyway stage eleven from Chateau loyal. To. One hundred and sixty six point, five kilometers an I mind to attack with Matthew leading new of group home after you've being on the attack every day since Tibo Pino tumbled out with Latin or the news like the new. News But I notice doubt there. I think it's led a news matthew ladder knuth of Groupama STJ. Then it was on new off the road on his own a very powerful group did try to go across at Oliver Nelson Steffen. Kuehn. Yes. Even Tom Fanatic Michael Google and Lucas posts like were Catholic Lucas Postal Burger. From him later and. They tried to go across the Peleton fancy letting US group that strong go across, and so they chased it down leaving ladder news out on his own ladder because there's some guys who're looking for nickname see by his friends teammates ladder but it say is is a lot of it's got a bigger engine that you will. Comfort there. was. Skoda. I'm sorry about that. That's good. Really. Kind of. The. Hand. Practice. Though for a car, we might be in scored quite quickly but that. I think the lower at puttering along in front of the broom wagon on I insist. The. News you know is is giving the. La Body rise like a scholar, right? Wow. But. That wasn't the last we heard of Pasta's Burger or Pasta Burger in the stage because after the news being caught forty, three kilometers from in Postal Burger went on the attack seven kilometers from the finish. We'll find out a little bit about why he did that he was mocked by Cusp Ash, clean and Bob? Of Decoding quickstep. So that was another really powerful. Group up the road and they looked okay. But they won't. They clearly weren't GonNa stay away just at the bottom of the final hail African pulled off and left you goes postal bug A. to it. But they were caught pretty much two kilometers to hang on to Columbus, and then in the sprint the first. eye-catching move was being be hotels guys coming to the front. Very strongly that from Kevin Razor looking for he's sprint at Berlin behind wrong gibbons look good as well. But perhaps went a bit too early and then it was the big gums came to the Front Sam Bennett looking for his second stage win in a row. But he was beaten by Caleb Ewan who won his fifth Tour de France stage and the second this race after his victory and see strong he was ahead of Saigon. Double nudged while Van art and was later disqualified for that move irregular sprinting. So although it was you in Saigon Sam Bennett. Bennett Vinyl moved up to second and third respectively, and that's had a significant impact on the Green Jersey because Ben is now well clear again, sixty eight points clear. But Richard, as you made the point sugamo probably finished the tool without too much trouble I remember Marcel Kissel was nailed onto the Green Jersey a few years ago and then helps he I think he crashed and he he pulled an Saigon if nothing else he will finished tour I'm. Your. That's what does for sprinters isn't that this is the mountains. But it's a blow to to his transit because I think. Some Bennett will older sprinters to you know get to Paris to sprint and witnesses sprint the bunch sprint there. So yes, going to be more interesting than we thought in the first place no change over all premiums rock still in the of course, Benue are causing a four who is not really mentioned for a few days is still in the Polka Dot Jersey that may change more not sure certainly by the weekend that could change and a couple of writers are out Greg Greg Muga Postal Burgers teammate and Hans cry has abandoned due to illness. We saw him on the TV screen not looking the best and he pulled out all the rice and Of Steiner is out having crashed with twenty nine kilometers to go. So Astana down a mountain man. "In a few weeks time he also won in Rome on the phone and then last year he was probably expecting to get a chance at the de Franz but was told right at the start of the season. No No. No tour and that left of Walters I guess a bit of Consolation Prize, I, mean, imagine waiting. Will tell the story in kilometer zero tomorrow morning sprinting for quick is a different level beast sprinting even in Boron SCO because they expect victories and kilometer zero tomorrow. We'll kind of tell the story of of the pressure building on on a rider as you know the winners don't come immediately the question when Moore I one come and we've seen that in this story because on day one in niece he was you. So really you know once again, symbolically this is is is grand for philosopher Bennett just on then a little bit of history He's Sean, Kelly and reverse really because Sean Kelly was the man from carry on shore who made Belgium his second home and really fit in Flanders and live there a number of years when he was a professional and some Bennett with born in West Flanders because he's Dad Michael. "Dot Co. don't You k today? Then tomorrow on our JEETER. We'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT. Mario Cipollini at the the light and shade of of CIPOLLINI and in today's episode going to be looking at as his early years up to his pump really am when he was the dominant sprinter in the world but Lila. Maybe you can take all the way. Back to the origins of Meyer Cipollini word. The Lion King Spring from well. Yeah the nicknames. The Lion King and Super Mario. They were to come much later. Just Super Mario. I mean he'd been brilliant computer games cycling wouldn't they clearly it'd be. He'd have been leading out year. I want archery Tae Mario Laming True Mary. Cipollini was born on March twenty second nineteen sixty seven in Luca. His brother Chat today was Eight years older than him and was also a professional cyclist from nineteen. Seventy eight to nine hundred ninety. Mario was napalm borne. Did you know this? And I didn't I didn't until today and I I haven't found an explanation for it. I was born in Belfour in front. That's right yeah I was going to ask you about that but I thought that was lorry driver whether that had anything to do that. No probably not Ashley piece the piece it together. Well one of the mysteries anyway. Marriott was a junior world champion in the team. Time trial on the road in one thousand nine hundred five and he turned professional for the Dow Tongo team in one thousand nine hundred and nine and that was the only season. The seasons at the two brothers wrote together also on that team with the reigning world champion Maria phoned and a future jira winner Franco kilt. Yolly CIPOLLINI's I probably witness came all at once. The Gino Di Puglia in eight thousand nine hundred ninety one thousand three stages in a row and a month later he got his first jared Italia stage win at the first attempt or in the first year they took part in stage twelve in MIATA and in one thousand nine hundred followed with two stage win so he was off to a flyer in terms of winning. Sprint finishes Daniel but was always destined to be a professional rider. Did his brothers interesting in the sport make inevitable that he would follow in this in the wheel tracks so to speak. I think he would send say yes. Napalm Amsoil as you said Shehzad was a decent pro and when a few things but N- Jerusalem Melia was probably the biggest win but Mario used to go and watch chase at I says and Tele famous story about and they always used to go up the coast from where they live near. Luca onto the roof Manta Raymond. Watch Samra and CIPOLLINI's birthday often fell actually on some raimo and one year how Cipollini was maybe seven or eight and he was there with these Dodd Rivaldo and they watch the Tongo pass and Chattanooga Boston. Mario turned to his dad and said I promise. I will win milan-san Raymond Foye one day so the was all was already sort of planted at that point and by all accounts is pretty hyperactive kid. I'm allegedly age. Sixty case mums fear. Five hundred until your first spin around the family sort of plot. The family ranch in Sanju study comfortable. I don't think that did you think that's even plausible. That story as I said. Very very hyperactive. Some was the manager of the GIST team. Piero Piero only came out of the House one day and with a contract for his brother Chaser and he remembered that Mario such handful the the family tied into an olive tree with a rope to to stop moving plausible any well. That's possible but when he got aboard his when he goes bike he was. He was quite something He won I mean a staggering number of rice in the the majority of races took part in junior and even you know as he sort of got close to become a professional. I think in in the loss in his last year or two before it did become a professional Legend has it that I would say to other items in the Peleton while you win as much as you can now because my brother's coming and he's GonNa win everything and at that point. You know people weren't only talking about Cipollini as a sprinter. I mean you mentioned that heat. He had great pedigree as a junior in time. Charles and team time trials Use The world champion Jeannie world champion. So Yeah a bit of a bit of a phenomenon by all accounts. It's interesting Donna. Looking back at his early wins. Because I have in my mind's eye C. Cipollini as this kind of muscle by very imposing character with a quite impressive physique and of course Unmodern or a recent sprint. Who's been similar in in Luke's if nothing else is Marcel Kissel but actually am when I was looking out their respective Stotts kittles bigger than CIPOLLINI. Cipollini wasn't actually. That big emmy wasn't not heavy. He was toll and but he was actually quite lean on and in those early years he was quite gangly. The other thing they have in common is having both been very strong. Time trialists as younger writers before becoming sprinters. And I guess that they were similar. 'em Or kipling became Sim- similar in style. A kettle in in you know being good Going from the front and really taking on From quite a long way being a very strong sprinter an Hartman to get around once he was in front and when he did start He was regarded as just a very very talented young writer. But people had no real inkling. It would become the personality that he did. There was a bit of a bit of flourish about him but he he started when he stays in Jira very early.

"Last year he was really quite harsh on on himself and drew attention to the mistakes he felt he'd made in those <hes> in those stages which not many sprinters tend to do. They tend to sort of <hes> you know. Try and keep that mistakes hidden under wraps. Perhaps for fear of giving the opposition a bit of an advantage or or just not to attract further criticism but you mentioned the the the stream of rided in the past who had the undisputed fastest man in the world tag. There isn't really a sprinter <hes> that could lay claim to that. There's quite a broad base of very good sprinters but no kind of one outstanding right at one outstanding sprinter who really really could have said for a couple of years that he was on the planet with marcel kissel the subject of our first kilometer zero of this wealth ice on you're not racing here of course because he it has announced his retirement but he'd kick off his <hes> grandeur sprinting career with victory in the twenty eleven welter so we spoke to a few of his former teammates and also his former team boss patrick lefevere about kittle episode. He's on the feed now. Two zero r. v. to say marcel is code who <hes> now before we move on. Let's just hear a quick word from the runner up today with tones of tricks sigfredo and he's in no doubt that sam bennett is in a very rich vein going forward. I think in the end i have to be happier. I think it's clear already in the being monk tudor banisters the fastest sprinter at the moment and we did a great job with the team <hes> john brought me really really well into last kilometer sprint benetton just faster than everybody. I think <hes> so i'm a bit disappointed that i couldn't finish off the great leader john but in the end i think i have to be also realistic and see that bennett as the fastest <hes> so we may be have to hope he is one day in the worst position than than normally the speed was just very high it was expected it would be a very hectic finish and <hes> with all excuse we have a great great guy to bring us to the last kilometer but i lost him about one and a half to go but suddenly i found the job on the right side inside the last kilometre on he went fool and i was a great great lead out. I i did what i could but then it was fuster shirt shoot that i don't think podcast team car the back of the tax lease indeed interrupt this latest installment of our wealth coverage to tell you that tonight's episode is sponsored by harry's it has to be me endorsing this product because the people harry's.

"Right war cried approach and motivation. Is everything here those two stages. He won in the netherlands jiro. Do you have any memories of those days. Oh yeah i have <hes> look so easy every time like really nail it with a legal but he did his own thing and rome one from far behind so so that was always his dranked because he could find find himself also without the little train also when it was hectic here he found the gap kissel allow beginning to open up his sprint. He hits the big job and goes. I think what struck me in my limited dealings dealings with marcel kissel the most was his civility some we'll talk about has charisma and but that implies something a bit loftier and grandchildren they're on no-doubt he he does have charisma to but he always seemed to me through respectful and polite i saw other jiro when it started in belfast in two thousand fourteen and he won both road stages there in belfast and dublin it was raining and cold and pretty miserable and kissel would be sasha ushered into these press rooms to give his press conferences and you could see his decency in the way that he treated the volunteers naylor local people who are working on the race and after his infused finished the way that he would stop for photographs and autographs despite it being cold and wet he seemed to have all the time in the world for people and also someone who took his responsibilities as a professional cyclist moreover a german professional cyclist very seriously. I went into him in cop where stage two of this year's vuelta finish a few years ago just after he joined quickstep ah we sat down to do the interview he into an apple and immediately apologized because he knew that i was doing the podcast and so he insisted on his apple to the site to finish it later she did an interview by some of the behind the scenes lobbying he done with john danton cole to get german television by the tour de france the conversations and meetings with executives there after they boycotted the tour following the yahel eric doping scandal on the t. mobile doping scandals and so i i really think that leaves the sport as a writer if cycling germany how many has regained some luster some credibility and respect i think it was a lot to get not so much what did on the bike but the way that he conducts himself and communicate indicate the dolphin sprinting is unique discipline in cycling really because the accolade of the best sprinter in the world is a bit like the heavyweight boxing in crowns in boxing there several hours held by different organizations and so at any one time several people claim to be the best and it similar in cycling because because the sprinters can win at the zero in the welte but it's really only at the tour of france when they all go head-to-head in their best form that we get to see who is the best sprinter every now and again somebody comes along to unify those titles if you like and stand head and shoulders above the rest in the last two to three decades mario approach alenia <unk> comedy show two names immediately spring to mind when i'm considering the undisputed fastest man in the world title for a couple of years in twenty not sixteen and twenty seventeen marshall kittle could probably of made a justifiable claim to that title.

"But if you thinking about breakaways getting into a breakaway toward France is a bit like buying lottery ticket the chance, any writer, however, have a good. They are in that situation. I pulling off a breakway when the told what is at two hundred to three hundred two on and is communist, she's chance of winning sprint the toward FRANZ winning the first brand in Brussels, which let's face it, if you won that, that would be enough MO. Than enough and is it better than three hundred twenty probably is the, the thing about the breakway. I mean, no one goes in them. I mean even last year, you know, you wouldn't have seen dimension data riders coming in certainly in until the racist kind of settled down a little bit. They've got no one in that no one in that perspective lineup that's going to know. No. When it gets harder. Two white until probably after lap launch. Be good opportunities to share for guys like Ben king. Yeah. I mean, I, I think it hinges on comedy health on presume, the team been monitoring not just a result, since the Vigna high, he's been writing highways been recovering health is like an if, if he is healthy. And you could imagine that he still you know, that, that it could just be a top waiting to be turned on. And if the circumstances are right the, you know, the tour although there all these Spence's air, we were remembered by two twenty thirteen thirty. And if you recall in Corsica, this huge crash that to a low of and David Miller, ended up second in the bunch sprint was second or third on the bunch sprint albeit wanna think by Marcel Kissel wasn't an he was, but he was about the only sprint third left. I'm not suggesting that, you know, so many similar could happen, or we want to top, and you just never know and some of these sprinters might be boxed in or taken, I or not there and common dish with the skills e. Has in those situations there might be a chance. And if he's there, he's the sort writer, chance, do you think that waiting to see how he does in British championships in Norfolk of the weekend? I'm not sure not show. He even knows exactly what the time line is. I'm when the choices can be made. I think Steve Cummings is in a similar position dimension data. He didn't finish the dolphin. I was hoping to put in a good performance of the definite and to write his last toward France didn't happen. He fell out by pull out their owner, so. You know there's a lot of uncertainty. And I think the one thing you can't say with with not team with comedy. He's not there isn't anyone obvious waiting in the wings, young rider whose, whose position he would be taking who's opportunity candidate would be taking. It was thrown in. So you know, I still think that he has a decent chance of being selected. Kospi's is supported.

"Who already is a friend of the podcast. What else did we learn from game? Welcome in particular about the two of Florida. I thought Nikki Terpstra look good in unfamiliar colors oversee no longer part of the the quickstep blue. He's writing for Direct Energy. Have you been following Nikki tipsters coach climatize ation diorite energy on their their videos? They are on on YouTube. It's bit. Live you ever seen the film out? Someone someone having curled on Santa's sack them having to live as a Hume as a human being having grown up personnel. F-? You mean, he's struggling to adapt. From Dutch to French. Yes. No, not linguistically. Yeah. From fairly rural. Chris I got the impression. Still get the impression Reggie rural environment on the coin, inC, and happy. Go lucky kind of atmosphere. Coining quickstep team bus to an altogether. More sort of downbeat thinking he could just change turn. The Dutch flag on it side Walla. Yeah. Interesting, isn't it? I mean turps a lot writers left quits F. And then thinking Marcel Kissel and others have been not really produced the goods Terpstra just looks like the writer he was quick stat. And and he's I'm quite contain ranked the team up with them, and they have I drank potatoes fifth in government is very comforting on class in the couple classics. Go down is always very prominently races. And one result would make the spring for them witness. So I'm I definitely wouldn't right tub. Strove, you know, he's got two big shots left. The turf lawn is empire buying. I think he's very much contender for for either of them. Yeah. You went with about fifteen kilometers to go on Sunday the run into wave again, very difficult running that because it's pretty much one row. It isn't it straight away into the outskirts of town, then there was a move with the story. And Sebastian Langeveldt, Jack Bauer and the NBA vis mirada who Richie said impressed. You today with Aaron numbers weren't they? It was grown doll Youngson in not phone moving for a while that looked like it might go to the finish. But that put to coining quickstep under of pressure. They had to really turn turn the pace on and that intern meant video, and he was left to his own devices. So in a way that helped Kristoff in the final in the finish on your. I see what else did we learn confirmation Oliver NAS, and is in tremendous form, and you know, maybe doesn't have this team support with Flanders being that much harder. More selective. I think he's a real threat because he's fast finishes on. We're talking. We were talking law in our team sky special. We've just released by the importance of having fast writer to win these races. I think for many years he'd written. Himself off as a as a finisher as a sprinter and got into his head. He couldn't sprint. I think he found himself in a position to have to try a couple of times they spring and is realized as a lot quicker than he. So remember thought I totes off the game fable about about how he's just in confidence in his finishing. Now. He's quite willing to wait in a group. Like he was in game available government and think he's got a chance and third in. What was he third lost week somewhere Milan? Raimo hearing me last time, Raymond. I'm third in camp. So yeah. And you know, I think we've spent many times when riders go into one day racist big one day races with that confidence. And with that willingness and ability to white then it makes them doubly dangerous. Cycling team on the back of the tax lease PK race radio. The two of the FRANZ to remind us to tell you that. "Podcasting 's buffalo napalm waiting for this. Joining us on the hotline from a secret location in Europe on on the lukewarm line. Isn't it? Why why lukewarm? Just denote crackly. Yeah. All right. I thought frame fees. Stick. Style up. You've been bite race and energized by the lack of Indo cycling in this week's podcast, all computers, cycling, computer cycling. What outdoor cycling on grass and mart and nano? No a big fan of that know why? Oh cyclocross. Yes. No. We we found another cyclocross lost. Message donyell. How could I forget, no, I'm a big fan of cyclocross not an active fan. But I'm not an atheist either. Lauren. Non promised to sing cyclocross fon. Anyway, from your running perspective, if you have analyzed sort of how many mic's per kilometer, they running at speed running your impressed by that fact that carrying a bike and relatively again, it's a bit like trunk cycling in the sense that I fully acknowledge an a big advocate of the benefits that combining road writer. And in fact, I got quite excited. Unlike meets geic sightsee quite excited when I heard that then IX, Steve always going to be dedicating more time to cross this winter because I think not we'll do his writing in the classics the world of good. And I think he'll have a bumper classic season. What was it like to be back up by race the weekend there? You're challenged me are was Draymond pumping. Where you off the walls with alignment rates. I was rich Somerset, I go to the stall. Unfortunately off our light. We'll have knowledge I wanted to get there. Because it was the weather conditions are being while they were patchy last week there were couple of landslides which caused the organizers to change the routes a couple of times the star Tunsil messed around with. And we'll have the strange former in the challenge Majorca where we talked about it lost. We didn't we where they sort of Buffy arrangement. You didn't you never who's writing on which well, you know, which team they're riding for. But you never know which ride this team is going to pick on a given day which adds element of surprise. So I showed up in the morning, not really not really. Aware of who was going to be writing. But you know, some big names there Don Martin was there. Emma book Leonard one one of the Honda of the four legs of the challenge me. Okay. The previous day and indeed Rhode very well again on Saturday. He certainly wanted to form writers meal. Valverde was the world champion. So yeah, it was a pretty pretty decent failed. Many spectators very very low key sort of a fan was being stopped by Torres saying what the hell's going on here, and they were slightly incredulous when I told them some of the best bike ride is in the in the world were present. I'm going to be racing that day, it's incredibly low key. What she looked like. Like a club race really in contrast to Argentina to someone where certainly in the final stage, there were huge crowds, and I really enjoyed watching through the sun one. But we'll hear about all of that. And I think we'll also hear from some people like to show and Marcel Kissel, go off the Mark at that. We can Lionel de of China, please do there's a lot to recap this week Loja racing going on we start with the cyclocross world championships and Bowen, sir in Denmark, the top three in the men's race were as expected the only question with which order they would finish in and the answer to that question was match your vendor poll, the Netherlands got the better of two Belgians while art and tune air who finished in silver and bronze positions it was van depose first world title since two thousand and fifteen breaking van outs. Run of three to be fair, though, Richard you watch the women's rate which I mean the men's race was a it was a contest. Formula to you. Larry. Formats malady. Are you joining and formality? In English this week. Anyway, anyway, Sana Khan one for the third year in a row for Belgium. She beat the Dutch women Lucinda brand and Marianne boss into third, Richard. "He's almost going morals schools realize quite big engine and he's doing less sprint training now needing more volume. But that just sort of shows how the art of sprinting from physiological point of view from training point of view, still very much evolving. Still sort of trying new things everyone is yes. Yeah. It's it's it's it's a lot of fun. Hurry, the simple way to put. A lot of fun. But in some ways the Bisi rules acquired simple. Yeah. It's interesting. The he hands China there, but we're doing things a little bit differently. But look with the sprint says, it really is about being fresh the mole recovered and fresh sprint series, the foster they are. But it's the parties point with start to lose fitness unless that's what we're trying to do is coaches to keep the insurance and the sprint. So just finally carrying on Marcel if there's warn keychain significant change he will be making on the you will be making two thousand nineteen what is it? That's a hard question on K change. It's not the kind of thing you really want to be putting aside we have made some changes and. Watch watch the results. Well, Kevin Poulsen houses a big job on his hands doesn't. Hey with Marcel Kissel who is coming off a really mean. Caleb you and had had a bad season loss. You're one of the start of the year. And then went mumps amongst with winning and wanna get to Britain. But it was it was a pure year for him as he said to you Daniel a wasted year. But Kittles problems seem to cause problems with his team Kittle was in the new team and was marquee signing for catoon opposite and was put in position to to win and perform well, but but just didn't seem to have it and the job I would think to to turn things around to into Patrick lefavor the to curbing train campaign. Hayes still maintains kid'll is the best in the world of all the sprinters. But but said the Katiza basically just assumed the dropping him into the team would lead to results and LeFevre said that wasn't how it worked when? Kittle was with that. They kept the pressure on him. They may impressed on him. He had to deliver. If we're were going to dedicate the team's resources to getting into the line. And you know, I think that's whether or not in a contusion may dispute, but because he clearly in not only to the knock at the results, but he never looked happy. Really the tour is completely outsource and he had already had a bad few months, but it's interesting. They obviously signed him massive signing for them. And they think we've signed the best in the world and that we need to do. And I think that probably a lot more to it. Indeed line. I think there was some confusion and a few misconceptions star lost year about one of the the problem was with Kissel in cotija a few people pointed the finger at the lead out train. And when that really wasn't issue this. She was the Kissel was no inform was not particularly fit when he started the season and never got fit. And that's been a bit of a recurring theme or something had a couple of seasons. When issues early on in the season have blighted him them for the rest of the season. So we someone who needs to really hit the ground running needs to have a mental straight away. And then he's he's very very difficult to to be. It's going to be interesting to to see how he gets on this year with a few changes every nobles come in mostly was a great German sprinter in his day. He's gonna be working alongside Kevin Poulsen Catania opposite. And then as far as you and is concerned. I mean, he's he's going to get. A bit of about about his afire. I think the Toda FRANZ lost year. Mitchelson Scott didn't make war. I think they would probably knowledge was that mistake of of announcing the previous December that he was going to ride the Toyota France, and and whether he rested on his laurels in the spring. He certainly didn't have ticket. Good results in the spring. Didn't win a lot of races..

"We've launched explore which we wouldn't have been able to do without having the funds to do. So so, yeah, hopefully, people can see that we are turning friends of the puck cost money into more coverage of types of cycling, hashtag content at Donyell your fresh from Bora Hans grow higher. The Hans grow a gang where where where are they are? They in the middle of training camp. How did you find them? Yes. Rich. So yesterday, I was in Panama in my orca as we said of the episode today. There are few training comes happening. You're in the moment, it's not as popular at destination as it used to be with leading teams Degnan cow pie ever on the Spanish mainland, south of Valencia sort of stoneless thunder a little bit. But they're all three teams three. Well, teams here at the moment. Contusion bor- and lotto pseudo red lotto and yesterday, bore a hundred grower gathered the international press, it was mainly German precisely four press conference, and we didn't know what this was going to be about. But they unveiled to contract extensions and one with the gymnast champion, PASCAL Ackermann and a second one with a memoir book, man. Yeah. This signals kind of re reaffirms the direction the borough hunts girl. Or trying to go in to become more and more of a German team a team that self identifies as German have pizza as well. But book Mun and come on very much well front and center of their plans for the next couple of years book money's gonna talk it the general classification and sort of France next year, he was twelve welter. Remember the end of two thousand eighteen and Ackerman, and he really burst onto onto the scene with a lot of sprint wins in two thousand eighteen he looks increasingly as he's there their main pure sprinter in the next couple of years, and he's going to ride the Jiro next year, which is a slightly. It's a slightly contentious decision as far as some people will be concerned because or of course, have another sprint. Sam Bennett who won three stages at the Jiro in two thousand eighteen but he is now. Looks. He's not going to do the JIRA in two thousand nineteen. Well, indeed Daniel, I mean, not Kerman was quite a breakthrough year for twenty four years old signed up to the end of twenty twenty one which is a long time. And as you say pure sprints or he's he's one of big races reading the grand tour yet, and he's clearly being groomed by Bora handscroll is I don't know the successor to Erik Zabel or or somebody are Marcel Kissel, or, you know, Andre gripe. The great tradition of sprint season. In Germany, the German team will certainly will help him as well. So shall we hear your conversation with some Bennett, who's always very, very honest. And well, certainly, this is a very interesting interview. Well, well, rich, we we started off the interview with somebody started off touching on last year or two thousand eighteen and and what he's learned from that. And particularly some changes he's made to his approach to training. And yeah, I think you hit some quite interesting tidbits about that. But then the incident pivots slightly about halfway through and it takes on a completely different tone, and you'll see your hair, why suppose I kind of figured out that I shouldn't train like enormous printer because I have a bigger engine taught. So I have to do the big hours I need to train and I need. Some hard training for the best for me about five or six weeks zoom, plus thirty.
