Fresh update on "manny" discussed on Mike Gallagher Podcast

"This past weekend, I met a family from Rock Hill South Carolina who went to Greenville to see our production of Annie that I'm currently participating in and we've got two more weekends to go. They don't really have a meat and greet after the show, but people who are coming to the show know that if you go around to the side of the theater there where that big walkway is as the actor we all come out, obviously the actors come out after the performance and there are people who are waiting and love to meet people and say hi and take pictures. And there was this excited family from Rock Hill, who was a grandparents, their kids, and then two grandchildren, 6 of them, and we had the nicest visit. They've been listening to me. In Rock Hill for years. This is a long time Mike Gallagher show affiliate. And the co owner of wrhi radio is a guy named Manny Kimmel, Manning Kimmel the fourth, Manning Kimmel the fourth is the grandson of a historic figure and on this Pearl Harbor day, we thought it would be pretty neat to share the story of the Kimmel family and what they've been spending many lifetimes trying to wrong that they've attempted to write. Let's welcome on our guest line, Manning Kimmel, the fourth, he's the grandson of admiral husband Kimmel, who is the naval commander. He was the commander in chief of the Pacific fleet on September December of 1941. Manning, it's great to have you on the Mike Gallagher show. How are you sure? Well, I'm fine. Mike has been hard to believe. 7 years since you were here in Rock Hill, South Carolina, to help us celebrate our 70th anniversary, and I had the chance to pull you off the microphone and take you into my office and show you a bunch of memorabilia from Pearl Harbor and I think that was the first time you ever do about the connection between myself and this historic incident that happened in our country's history. I'll never forget that visit and I remember learning about your grandfather, so tell the world about your grandfather. Tell everyone about husband Kimmel, who he was and what happened to him after Pearl Harbor. He was the commander in chief of the U.S. fleet at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 with its Japanese attack. And of course, the right after the attack, the immediate indication was we have to put blame on somebody. So we'll put it on admiral Kimmel and his army counterpart general Walter short. History, however, has proven all that to have been absolutely incorrect. They were alleged to have been derelict in their duty by the Roberts commission, which was a Supreme Court associate justice who went out there two weeks after the attack. And what do they see? Nothing but carnage and sunken ships and what have you. And of course they branded Kimmel and short being derelict in their duty. However, and to make a long story short, they were able to hear 9 investigations. Investigations which came up with absolutely no evidence at all that Kimball in short were derelict in their duty. And in fact, the only one in 1944 the naval board of inquiry, which was the best of the best of the navy, judging one of their peers, admiral Kimmel, found out that she wanted to go away from the duty. And in fact, that the critical enabled intelligence, which should have been shared with Kimball in short, was never sent to them. Well, that has spurred a whole bunch of activity by the Kimmel family trying to get this stain of dereliction of beauty, removed from admiral Kimmel, because he was never charged with anything. In fact, he was as my dad used to say tricked into retirement. But that stain of dereliction of duty has hung around his neck. And so what we were trying to do over all these years is to get the navy to treat admiral Kimmel, the exact same way that they treated all the other flag in general officers after World War II when the officer personnel act of 1947 was passed. This was a way that Congress wanted to thank all of their military officers for their service in World War II and retire them at their highest wartime rank. Hundreds and hundreds of names were sent over all of them approved, but two names were obviously missing from a list. Kimmel and short. Wow. So what we're trying to do possibly is to get that corrected. We're not looking for any back pay we're not looking for a parade down Main Street. It's just a matter of honor for the camel family. And that's where we're kind of stuck right now because our efforts are within the bureaucracy. The office of the Secretary of Defense has had our application in their office for over one year and has done nothing with it. And so we're trying to use our political connections to stir the pot down there. Ask them why they haven't passed this on. Well, I was talking to a friend of mine this morning about your story and he was researching it as well because it really is a fascinating story because now the grandchildren of admiral Kimmel, you being one of them are fighting this fight. Your dad has passed, right? His sons have both passed away both navy vets. They're no longer with us. So now you guys are carrying the torch and doing your best. My friend looked it up, and he said, the Kimmel family actually petitioned and hash petitioned over the years numerous presidents, including Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan and he said they both turned you down. Well, I don't think they ever formally the commander in chief has never seen this. I don't care what president has been. Democrat or Republican. The actual commander chief has not seen this. I see. Including all of this. A fellow by the name of Joe Biden. You remember him? I do. Was a United States senator from my home state of Delaware, and he co authored a congressional resolution along with senator strom Thurman Ted Kennedy and John spratt from South Carolina. That passed the United States testing the president to direct this injustice. So here we are 20 years later trying to get that resolution in front of the man who authored it, Joe Biden. And I think if we could get it on his desk, he would probably say, why hasn't this been taken care of?.

"And if you have a gambling problem called 100 gambler By the way, I don't know how much of the I guess maybe depends on what happened to the baseball season. But how much of a basketball you're gonna watch? Boyd. For this net jazz game they have now put not cardboard cutouts, Joe. They have put fate. Fans who are watching the game via must be zoom. On the scoreboards, so it looks as if they're our fans watching the game. I see. It's creative. It's creative. What I'm skeptical about is these people aren't really watching a net Jazz preseason game. I mean, you really get a bunch of people toe get excited. Put themselves on camera watching jazz like you know me. I'm crazy. I'm watching it, but I'm not going to give you much of an emotional reaction based on what happens in the game. I'm not going to cheer a bull for Ah, scrimmage between the Nets and jazz. They do have a bunch of faces up there, So it's it's different, but they're trying to figure things out all these by the way, who was how happy was Ed with the eyes? I think that's what he was smiling about that there was no fans in the stands. Because you know what? That would have been like if the fans would have for that game. I could tell you right now. Well, Joe, not only that, Okay, because you're right. No, I think I don't think that's why it was laughing. It was laughing because he thinks in his mind. He made a great pitch and I was going to hit it. That's why I was laughing, okay? I'm not defending him. I'm blind. I mean, I get it right. I already I don't like him because he's not good, like I don't like him in terms of baseball may clarify he's only facility, including yesterday. Two days ago, he's only giving up 16 home runs in the ninth inning. Between last year and this year. It's all over the world. 16 member the ones against the Reds give up like three days. Unbelievable. All I'm saying is, I'm not gonna crush him for a smile. Only the fact that you hope the home run but to go back earlier the opening day Remember how we walk Freddie Freeman. If there were fans in the stands, he would have heard the audible groan. Yeah, he never got to hear right? And who knows? If something a small like that affects him. You know what I mean? Well, So it's not just the booing when he stinks. It's that the groans that the Met fans have become so good at I understand. I know. Two groans. Yes, we do. Very well. We do. Let's get to your calls. Chris Moore is coming up at six o'clock tonight. Manny is in West orange. A Manny Manny, How are you? Hey, Joe, in heaven. Thank you so much for taking my call. No problem. What's up, Manny? I got two questions for you guys. First of all, could you have post the full show on the podcast That or the radio dot com at You have to ask Ernie. He's the decider and all of these important matters highly. I work here. All right. Thanks. One more thing. What do you guys think The chances are of getting through the MLB? I don't feel good about it. I got to tell you that I don't know about it if I had to put a percentage on her right now, eh? 50 50? Yeah, It's probably a little bit below that. At this point. I wouldn't have said that on Sunday. I think I would have been more like 70 30 feeling good about the chances, but It doesn't feel good right now for being realistic, And I wonder, you know, one thing we've always said about the NFL's with that, on their side was time and the ability to watch like they can watch baseball. Try this basketball. Try this hockey. Try this. Would they pivot from their plan to something different, and I'm not suggesting ah, full bubble like the MBA. But would they go radical and say one thing that could really help us is to cut down on the travel in a big way and Don't don't kill me for saying this, Jill. I'm not saying I wanted but maybe taking the a F. C east in the NFC East and combining them for the season so that you don't have that kind of travel. I don't know, but I love it. But, you know, look, it's what you said to me about extra innings. I'll say the same thing to you, even though I don't love it either. It's a weird year, and it's not permanent, and it's just things to try to get through the year. Thiss year is, you know everything's possible? Yes, Scott is in Teterboro. Hey, Scott Scott. How really Great, at least of late July. Ned Wendy has only has one blown safe. That's a good way to look at. And the Mets really a game out of first place game I got I got. I got a quick comment. Question for you guys. My comment is I listened to it years. You've made a great point about 1991 because I'm still going YouTube bonkers of baseball. The Mets were right at the top late July right now and the Yankees lead or not. We're ah, over 500 You know, think that with them because that was a number. That was three years flight, and we always laugh about the Yankees. They're rebuilding something like three years past three year rebuilding 13 16 wasn't anything flat? No. 85 wins. But like my question, wouldn't you guys are saying 50 50 that they could shut season down? What? Wouldn't you love this If they're going if they have to shut it down, probably, you know. The best thing to do is regroup. Now, the next season guns ablaze and get these two more teams these expansion team, so we all have to see nearly getting more and also trying to do with hockey. Did And go back to the two divisions in each in each conference but lied so you'd have the Mets. And Pirates and cardinals come together again, and you had two divisions of eight so the Mets could play those rivalries again. Instead of playing. Those teams like the man says, no reason you should only see the cardinal's comes. You know what? Scott Scott? He here's the thing. So for you for me to a degree, certainly for Joe. We remember the Mets and the Pirates as rivals yet the Cardinals the Cubs Most people don't Most people don't. It's not gonna like that appeal that may draw you in. It's not gonna work for anybody under the age of 35. Don't remember that his rival, so I don't think there's much of a motivation to do something like that. We knew that baseball was going to face a lot of tests. We knew that going in. The question was always going to be, what are they going to do when they face these tests? And to me, it's not just give up. It's not just all right. This didn't work. That's it because an outbreak on the Miami Marlins Joe it's socks, but it's not surprising. And if major league baseball surprised by this, they have no idea what they're doing. I'm sorry you had to know something like this would happen. So what's the plan? The plan all along? I thought was all right. You've got these deep rosters, the satellite locations with other players and you're going to replenish it. But they just postpone this Marlon Oriole game. I don't know if they're gonna play tomorrow. I would doubt it at this point that they're gonna play any time tomorrow. You think I'm gonna play Yankee stating that game to Yankee Stadium, right? If I had to predict, I'd say if the Phillies tests come back clean. I think they'll try to play tomorrow night in Yankee Stadium. How many fillies would have to test positive for TB? No game. Um, I.

"This time tell me what are you seeing with clients calling you and of course you manage Manny Manny portfolios and plans what is the response been with clients calling regarding this global corona virus issue and their concerns regarding the markets and their investments what well I think it's just that there's a general concern out there with what's going on obviously if you watch TV you go on the internet you're inundated with what's happening and and we're well aware of it and and we're making and taking steps accordingly but most people are calling for reassurance right they want to know where they are they want to know that we are making adjustments as necessary and that that's what we're seeing the virus obviously not just infecting people but also infecting the markets for instance the week of February twenty fourth of twenty twenty you look at the first couple trading days of the week your download over a thousand points in the Dow and then a minus eight hundred and sixty point day and then the slide has continued and just an example of what fears can do to the market place and yet depending on what happens I mean you're you're approaching with just those numbers approaching a a correction phase yeah in a correction is just that so that they'll say on the news a few white C. N. B. C. a correction is just the stock market going down a ten percent or more so that that's what a correction means but the put it into a little perspective we gotta remember that toward the end of twenty eighteen the market was down twenty percent from its highs so again there is concerned with the virus and the long term implications but we're still a little ways from where it was in November how do you separate and again it is you know pretty much well known that corrections occur that stock markets have ebbs and flows and typically this cycle is one seven to eight years that you see these sporty substantial fluctuations in the market and we're in overtime meaning that we have not had that correction post the two thousand eight financial crash and then the rebound from that so if you look at the calendar before this whole coronavirus mess in the first quarter of twenty twenty before this we were really in overtime for a correction anywhere you are knocking on ten plus years so what do you what what do you say when you try to analyze where we deal for a correction even before we have this external corona catalyst but I would say this so there's no real set calendar to when the market's gonna go up or down but you're right statistically historically there are ebbs and flows but I will tell you what's a little different about this market and and you're right it's it's pretty much gone up since two thousand eight when we had that bad correction but what's different about this market for late in the cycle the economy is relatively healthy right before the corona virus hat think about all the numbers that are coming out and being reported regarding the economy they're all good so just because the cycle had has lasted this long doesn't necessarily mean it has to go down if folks have questions and I know that there are a lot of people that are listening to this program today that might have some questions regarding how long does this last what we don't know but there are positions you can take and there are ways to ride out the storm and I know that one of the core principles that you utilize at Harwood is and we've talked about this on this program for years is maximizing the upside but minimizing strategically the downside well you got it I mean we we always start with a plan and you've heard us say that before but but that is the important thing we always start with a plan and we build your investments knowing these things can happen right these things are gonna happen and they're going to continue to happen so the important thing is at the beginning get things to where they should go and I'll just give you a simple measure which you could look at is if you take a hundred minus your age now this is a conservative way to look at it but if you take a hundred minus your age that's the percentage you should have in the stock market so if you're sixty years old you should only have about forty percent of your portfolio on the market that is a good rule of thumb obviously that if folks have questions listeners to the program today and again we recommend highly always that you contact Harwood to get the complete planning review to get a second opinion so in this time we're seeing this fluctuation sort of a potential black swan event here as they call it an unexpected calamity unexpected event that causes markets to react very negatively if you're listening to the program today and you would like to get the Harwood eyes on your current portfolio get their eyes on your investment strategy to get their opinions as well so I'm hoping that you know it doesn't take an event like this for you to get a complete planning review it it shouldn't but I know that this tends to emotionally move people even more folks you're welcome.

"Solution to the problem when it gets emotional I Oklahoma. I didn't know your family was capable of emotions so it was shot stared at Devon's Zini lots for five. I Know Jeff needs when Vanessa. Tony and Manny Manny at least name me laugh like the next day when I thought about it was like his emotions like sponge to any motion. No because Mamie labs are but who is really sad like and then. After he laughed I was I kept trying not to chronic. Chronic have crying and I was like I gotta go just go home and just be by myself so I if you cut to now having the best time ever yeah yeah so far. It's knowing I talked to him every day and it's it's overwhelming right but I've never seen him post so much coach now because he has nothing else that he stuck in the house. So yeah so I know Jen is going to go see my brother in February going to be there in March. So that'll be fun. It's GonNa be good what I'm happy. It's a great opportunity for that opportunity and we'll see maybe we'll follow them out there. Who knows? Oh I'm here today. We're going to do something a little different. This is is going to be fun. Yeah we're going to turn the show over to to her again rock. They're gonNA give us these random topics that they have picked. So we'll just give you one word and then you guys have to create a conversation out of that word. Let me give you a topic. Pick the holy Roman Empire the holy. No rummage talk. Are you ready. Okay Mexican Eric. It gives them the first word. I fifteen compensation Eric firemen talk talk. Okay what's your favorite fire station in San Diego. What my walking going thank you know? What is the fire station? Information and San Diego is one in the middle of Hillcrest. Because you see those guys working out in the windows and hum bucking smoking literally because they just got in from like fighting fire and now they're working out in sweated. Okay now. I want to go to there there. You Go. There's a Jack in the box and Mitchell Portland next door. Shut up you know when I was growing up here in San Diego down in Chile Vista. When I was in elementary getting eating out like sixth grade there was a fire station right down the street from us and I remember just seeing the firemen coming in and out working out like you said and being unlike six going? Yep I'm gay. I guess that's hot. There's like two trucks that like workout at like Murray like lake so I used to take my dog and literally but I wouldn't put on a Bra like I'd be wearing like of my. Ah Sunglasses probably haven't even brush my teeth. I mean literally and I'm taking my dog through the park and they're there because they run the the the by the lake because I think it's like five miles like two trucks show up a different times while I'm there and then ring. Oh my dog would want to walk by them because he liked. I love what I normally I would like it but not when I like. I'm like trying to hurry up and exercise him. I'm trying to get back to work. I unshaved my legs and I'm wearing shorts trying to find you a man. Yes so my point is so I think my would have to be like the two. There's two houses next next to lake. Murray do there's like on one side of the lake and the other one is on the other so they that's why they both out backdraft the movie Baldwin. Billy was you can go. Can't you still do it. It was I was GonNa just see that these have the backdrop anymore like all. The kids are like what I was like. What is that back door? What's what are the? Ob Fireman Mike. Honestly I've well. They're all hot. I think it's like a prerequisite for being one of those two things of the firemen or a or a lifeguard but this might thing about firemen right now is my son in law is about to be one..

Building Great Habits with James Clear

"From the Ramsey network. This is the entree leadership podcast where we help. Oh business leaders grow themselves their teams and their prophets. I'm your host Alex shed and today's guest has a plan for you to grow a plan for you to improve a plan for you to move forward award in two thousand twenty and get this. It's a plan that actually works. That's because author and thought leader. James Clear is one of the world's leading authorities on the topic of habits and he says that real lasting change in your life doesn't start with what you do it starts with who you are. You're true behavior. Changes really identity change and what I mean by that is once you start to look at yourself in a new way in in the sense that once you start to ascribe a new identity to yourself. You're not even really pursuing behavior change anymore. You're just acting in alignment with the type of person. You already see yourself to be. You know it's one thing say on the type of person who wants this but something very different on the tenth person who is this so you like the goal is not to run a marathon. Goal is to become a runner goals not to write a book. The goal is to become a writer. And once you start to believe in those identities these more deeply I'm a writer. I'm a runner. I am the type of person who doesn't Miss Workouts. I think that's ultimately what we're really trying to get to. And the reason that I think this ties so closely with your habits is that your habits are how you embody a particular identity. So whenever you make your bed you embody body the identity of someone who was clean organized. Whenever you sit down and write one sentence you embody the identity of someone who was a writer if you study biology on Tuesday night right for twenty minutes you embodied the identity of someone who is studious and the first time that you do things? It doesn't necessarily change the way that you lucky yourself but you can imagine that every action you take is like vote for the type of person you wish to become so the more that you repeat those behaviors the more you cast cast votes for being a certain type of person and so early on. Yeah writing that first sentence or doing that I push up. No that doesn't radically transform a look yourself but as the votes pile on in that body of evidence builds up now we have something to root this new identity in something to base the belief on this is very different than what people people say when it's like fake it till you make it or something like that and I don't necessarily have anything wrong with vacancy. Make it just asking to believe something positive by yourself but we have a word for beliefs. That don't have evidence right. We call a delusion like at some point. Your brain doesn't like this mismatch between I keep saying that I'm an early riser. But I press news news every day or I keep saying that. I'm healthy person but I'm not going to the gym. And so my argument is to let the behavior lead the way. Let the behavior reinforce the belief and if you cast snuff votes and show up enough times then you actually have every reason in the world to believe in this new aspect of your identity and I think that's ultimately the reason why as the year kicks off off the question to ask ourselves is not what gold I want to achieve or what needs resolution should I sat. But who's the type of person that could achieve the things that I want to achieve a common news solutions as I wanNA lose weight while you may realize the type of person that can lose. Thirty pounds is the type of person who doesn't Miss Workouts and so now this year we have some different look at actually. What we're trying to do is to build the habit of becoming the person who doesn't Miss Workouts and letting the results fall naturally and so I I think the shift is a slight one but also a very meaningful one from focusing on the outcome to focusing on your desired identity? That's almost it's a little bit counter cultural because I think it can be super exciting to start focusing on the outcome especially here in January right. Everyone is marketing desired outcomes to us so so what is the first step. Is it sitting down and writing these things down or is it talking to someone about it. What is the first step in identifying what it is that you want to become and then what what do you do after that? Yeah it's a great question. We live in a very results oriented society so we're surrounded by results all the time you know you're never gonna see a news story. That's like manny. Manny eats chicken and salad for lunch. Today it's only going to be a story when it's like man loses one hundred pounds. It's become result six months later two years later that we hear hear about it and I think whether it's because that's how the news cycle runs or that's what were inundated by on social media. We tend to overvalue results for that reason. And I don't I don't mean to dismiss it like. The world is very results driven but we tend to put the result on a pedestal and overlook the process behind it the outcomes of our actions are highly visible and easy to view and the process behind those actions is often invisible difficult to view. I think because it's often hidden we undervalue value the importance of the process but Tanzer question. Where does the start ultimately? What we're hoping to do is to live a life? That's like in alignment with our values. Use whatever that happens to mean for you and so it can be useful to ask yourself what are my principles when core values and so on but sometimes that line of questioning is difficult because is it's a very big vague question and so occasionally what I recommend is that people start just by asking all right. I'm not quite sure what the core value should be or I don't even really know. Like how my core value of growth or of Grit or of compassion connects with my daily actions. But I do know what kind of results I want. People do tend to know I want to double my income or I want to get six back apps or I want to reduce stress. And so that's fine. We can start with that ask yourself. What does the the outcome I want? And then the next line of questioning is who is the type of person that could achieve that outcome so the type of person reduces stressful. It might be the type of person who meditates weights every day The type of person who writes a bestselling book well. It might be the kind of person who writes every day and so now rather than we can kind of put the result on the shelf and focused more on reinforcing that identity. You're picking up that lifestyle and those habits that reinforce the identity of someone who could achieve those results aren't GonNa GonNa try to predict the future but we're going to focus more on. What is their daily life? Look like were those daily habits look like and less on when can I hit this ideal outcome it. It seems like you're bringing these things can be. Maybe a little bit at the`real and feel like they're out of our control because their destinations and you're bringing it more into what we we can actually control today. Is that fair to say. Yeah I think that is fair to say. Ultimately your outcomes in life are influenced by multiple factors one one of them is luck and randomness and uncertainty in the actions of other people and none of those things are under your control but the other meaningful part of the equation are or your daily habits and decisions and that is under your control. And so I think if we're focused just on what we can control first of all. It's the only reasonable approach doesn't make sense the waste a lot of time thinking about things that are outside of your circle of control but secondly it gets us to ask maybe a deeper question or a different question which is is what am I doing now that actually impacts the results that I have and what you find. Is that the way that you collaborate in your results. Their luck and randomness randomness are also collaborating in it. But the thing that you bring is that your habits are that main portion and so I think we actually could like maybe simplify this to just saying the results that you experience in life are often lagging measure of your habits so your bank accounts lagging measure of your financial habits. Your physical fitness is a lagging measure of your training and eating habits. Your knowledge is lagging measure of your reading learning abbots. Even the clutter on your desk asker in your bedroom is like a lagging measure of your cleaning habits and so I think as a shortcuts not to dismiss the role of uncertainty or chance or luck but to say that if we want to have a shortcut and focus on what we can control. I think for pretty much any domain. We could say gather results. I'm getting here. They're lagging measure the habits that I have and those are under control. And so that's what I should be focused on improving.

"The bump in of the tweets on CBS sports network. Were they pull their own tweets once that we've missed? I'm looking at it right now on the monitor goodstuff. Welcome back. Welcome back last get through one eight hundred six three six eight six eight six. Obviously, when I say to you, call the program. I've done my best to screen out dopes but people get loose now. It's possible to get through hawk to get on the air. It does happen that guy in Saint Louis who said, it'd be asked me anything as anything we had that guy quote. Manny manny. Manny says dope. Who's been calling the show since that seventeen drafted he keeps changing his name and he keeps trying to make that point. Hey Rome, Rome. Hey, rome. We want that back. You want that back. You want that back when you said that John Lynch worked the bears man. I know you've been trying to call and by the way he's already gotten through with that. And we addressed it before, but he keeps changing his name and his city, he wakes me change producers, so we can get through it make that point. My man, you've got this whole twisted. Why are you so caught up and how I criticised your draft? You should be a lot more into the fact the UT at a chance to draft a once in a generational talent and didn't you're so focused on Yemen. Remember what Rome said after we made that pick. And we made that deal. Got this twisted. Manny. Bitter enough Manny focused on the wrong thing, bro. The thing being you've got Trubisky when you could add Mahomes, I'd focus on that. That's where you're Irish should be. But don't worry haka last, maybe another year here, and then somebody else will come through and screen the call, and you have a chance to kind of get over on him, too, and then might take will be the same you're focused on the wrong thing dude. The thing being you coulda had a once in a generational player, but you didn't. And you don't. So my point is call anybody can get through now a couple of days back. I dropped the eighty fifth edition of the Jim Rome podcast. This week's episode is the pride of Isla vista and sack town, both. He can claim both as his towns and even though he just turned forty he's still is and always will be the California kid. I'm talking, of course about hall of Famer your riot favor. Now, he was one of the guys with the lighter weight divisions on the map years ago. Back in twenty sixteen. He retired after a beat Brad Pickett in Sacramento was quick to walk off in his hometown won the fight called it a day. Great story, but nearly three years later as a forty year old again, who just became a dad for the first time you riot is putting the gloves back on. He's heading back to the cage, for a hometown fight next month against Ricky Simone, every time I go in there. It's, it's the best. And so it is a one off opportunity, but it's not necessarily a weren't off jury. So I decided, and I've been thinking about this for a while. I always stayed with it that you saw to drug cooling, just to make sure that I have the ability to jump at the at the drop of a hat, if I needed to something I knew was coming. I wanted to get some things out of the way you know, the baby, of course, getting myself established outside before I add anything, but I needed that little edge to push me over, and I think the birthday a fight my hometown, the current lay of the land, at the at the weight classes and you opportunities coming into our sport with ESPN partnerships and it's just an exciting time to be. Evolved. If you wait too long, there's no coming out of retirement. Now is the time, and otherwise gonna pass you see you wonder why that guys had so much excess inside and outside the octagon listen to them. And you heard him say it now is the time he response to that question. I said to him, is it a one off? He said it's a one off in terms of the fight, but not in terms of journey necessarily so that comeback fight is against Ricky Simone. It goes down. Exactly one month from today July thirteenth in Sacramento. Make sure you look for that. You also heard you riots say that even though he's been retired. He's already he's always stayed within the EU Sada testing program, just in case he ever wanted to come back the way he is right now. Now, top of that he had some pretty choice comments. And he's pretty upfront with his disdain for drug cheats. He's got no time for it or for them. It makes me sick to my stomach that I think about these guys that are cheating, the system that if done it and got caught in no whatever tell me about what they're what they're doing it. Because they understand about my upbringing my moral code and everything that goes along with it. When you're cheating like that. First one thing needs to happen. You have to make a decision that you're gonna cheat everyone else you're going against two. You have to have an internal belief or at least an inkling that you don't have enough as, as a human being that you need more. And then you have to be willing to just say, okay, I'm gonna light everyone. I'm gonna cheat people have going against I could possibly putting people are physical harm. And top of that, just dealing, you know, you're still other people's opportunities. This is why people love the California kid damn good fighter. Exciting fighter real dude. Speaking of immensely, popular fighters who we have not seen in a minute. I want to get to his thoughts on Conor McGregor and where he's at. And if you riot thinks that Connor still has the motivation to get back in the cage and get back and pay the price and to train, and grind after stacking cash with the Floyd fight after getting soundly beaten by Habib last October after making all that money on his liquor. Does he still have that edge, you Ryan says he does what Carter is actually a really grounded person? I I've got a lot of respect for him the way he is committed to his family and his friends is country. That's what they're saying. He was leaving Ireland tested that a little bit. But the reason why people are fighters and you could talk about Mike Tyson or Jones junior, or some of the great throughout throughout not because of the money, you don't spend massive amounts of your time and energy is young kid or. Up and comer barely eating quality food, bunk up for rent and all this other stuff because this big dream of money. I mean it might be part of the equation. So people are motivated by different things. But at the end of the day, there's still a part of Connor, I believe that wants to prove that he's a bad MO fo and I think the best with that a little bit. That's what you get the best Connor. You're ri- remember, Dana white soul, TMZ, Karna will find twenty nine nineteen nine so we'll see you ride definitely thinks to Connor is still really motivated. Still has that edge was still grind now fight that I know is not going to happen. But it's getting a lot of run is twenty five year old Justin Bieber against fifty six old Tom Cruise in case you missed it earlier this week. The beefs randomly tweeted out that he wanted to fight mave, J V math. But I've got no idea who's got the edge here. But you riot favorite show is held us was cage side one dominant cruise night fought. I've also seen him work with scored a little bit. And he's got some decent little jabs and whatnot people forget cruise was an actual wrestler meeting. He compete competed probably for years. So crews seems like he might be better mental physical shape in my opinion. But beavers got that. Unbelievable, self belief. I almost feel like it's a wreck. Versus striker and age in so believe age of the side of Bieber self belief is about equal. It could be a dog. Fight man. Whoever land their big punch, or get your big take down a breakdown of a hypothetical flight between the twenty five year old pop star in a five foot, six Hollywood legend twice that age. You can't you just can't. Also, you're right. I had some pretty interesting thoughts on the latest champ champ, Henry, pseudo. In fact, he made news with what he said about that along with Dominick Cruz, Cody Garbrandt say, who called out favor after winning the bantamweight title was was all those other guys on Saturday night. We got into it. You're right. I had a thoughtful response. And while many were claiming or clowning the double champ for calling himself. The greatest combat athlete of all time. You're ri- was not offended by that. He had high praise for the Olympic gold medalist. So a good conversation with the California kid on f eighty five also make sure you check out the podcast for an Isla vista story that he told me. And one of the first things they ask me to do was to build a sign to announce weddings and birthdays and things like that at the community center because that's what it's for. And so I built the sign and April Fools coming up. And I got a little nudging from people that I worked with the put some alleged on the sign just why not nobody's preceding thing before. So on on April Fools day about seven years ago. I there's there's a town next to us Morrison Colorado who has a very heavy police presence. They they run a lot of speed traps. And right when you get through Morrison to Indian hills. There's my sign than I put on the sign of Indian hills annexed by Morrison slowdown. And nobody ever seen anything like that on that signed. It was they're used to. I mean they were used to like John and Mary's fiftieth anniversary. Okay. Yes, they they just they they had no idea and the response I got was unbelievable from the Morrison police department from the county officials. Wow. Everybody wanted to know what was going on in Indian health. And it was just a really funny day. You know, I I tried to hold county in about this is great. And I just started throwing things on the board because it was fun to make people laugh and think your started, you know, some of your things are funny. I mean, like programmers. Do it beta get it, right? What a great day to go outside and look at your phone. Okay. Yes. I try to have a lot of fun with it. I really do. Tell you my favorite. It's yes. Please dogs can't run MRI machines but cat scam. Absolutely of one of my favorites. Put up cows have because they lacked toes. Now, tell me about speaking of cows, tell me about the vegan in the steak, right? Okay. So this happened in twenty four t and it was an innocent enough sign. I put up a turning bagan would be a big mistake, you know, MIS SE DSP K. And if you look at it, holy it's you know, if you're vegan you just miss a a nice state, you would without an ice visa state and some vegan restaurant on to the community. And they they saw the sign and told over and engineer the they they used the letter. So we're on the board and they turn the sign into turning. Megan is awesome. Oh, did they just? Even really laugh, but but they stole the rest of the letters. And then they made a point about telling people more stealing the letters because these crimes don't go unpunished and then in the same day they had hoped fence, and they taken pictures with cows in. We're still not too far off from where we live in posted that also, and when the when the ranks of those pictures, they called the police who it turned into a bigger thing than they should have it, and they they didn't want to give us our letters back right away. But there was an intermediary that finally met them at some location and may gave us my leather. Call now, we know you mentioned letters and sign now, we all know, I know, but this is not like a high tech LED sign here. No, no, this is very low typing letters that. I place them in the slides every day never every time. I put a sign up and how big is the sign. It's probably three by three by four maybe four now. So so have you ever thought about getting a high tech sign people have offered even buy me one? But I think part of the novelty is is the fact that I put those letters. So. There there when when it's been band license of in the past people have offered, hey, let's get a better high-tech, son. And. I want to go that way too. I'm low tech became command to attack. "Ramp sort of open lines here on a Tuesday night. We very rarely do this. We very rarely do this. And I'd like to know if you like the idea or not we do some nice, we get real serious. And and that's what that's the bread and butter of nightside. But let's see what people wanna talk about it over to you. Manny Manny in framingham. Manny. To me favorite, rob. Let's put Manny on hold because they think he's got the the radio little too close. Little too close. We'll get back to Manny. That's no problem. Let's go to Karen an act and Karen and act, and how are you tonight? I'm okay, Dan. How are you doing great doing great? I think we've survived the storm. I I have no question about that. But I guess what? I would. Say is I'm really noticing a lack of civility in the population. I mean, I was I was out on the road today on for ninety five and watching people zipping along it was clearly getting bad, but they're still going sixty five seventy miles an hour. Crowding the Powell zipping in front of somebody else in order to get past the Powell, and I'm like, excuse me. What is wrong with you people just because you're driving a big SUV? Does not mean that you're going to be able to stop when you want to. Here's the deal. I think that a lot of folks who have, you know, the the bigger vehicles and have the vehicles that are equipped with whatever it is four wheel drive, or whatever I think that they feel I can handle this. And they don't realize that there are other people in the road who might not be able to. Okay. Well, I've been I won't tell you. How old I am. But I'll tell you. I've been driving in the snow for sixty years. You sound like you're about fifty. So. Wow, aging. Well, Karen age. I m h. Fairly. Well, but short form is is that breaks even antilock brakes so needs to be able to catch traction in order to stop and four wheel drive is all very nice and heavy cars are all very nice. But I can't tell you how many times I've been driving to work because I was a nurse. And I was expected to be there to all of this nastiness, and I'm taking my little sedan. And I'm going past SUV's that are stuck on the side of the road. But the civility isn't just in the way, we drive it's also something as basic as people giving up their seats on the bus people to somebody who's infirm people who. Opening doors or not opening doors trying to be a little gracious. I was at a ceremony at a school. I graduation ceremony at a school. And here's a choir seen the national anthem, and our people are like, oh, yeah. Maybe I should stand. Through. Yeah. It's like Hello. Pardon me. I I totally agree with that everything is said, and I think you're right. I mean, the idea I don't ride the T very often. But you're right. You will see the bigs strong strapping young people oftentimes, we'll sit there and to be some elderly person who could use ability to sit down, and it's not even it's not there. I don't think it's taught in school. I also think in terms of your event at the national anthem. I think that whoever's running in event like that has the obligation to bring the audience under control. And they they what they didn't say. And what they should have said is please writes for the national because I didn't even really. Yeah. We were you know, he's a few measures. Then before I'm going, oh, that's the national anthem. Holy. For example. If you go to a Red Sox game or a major sporting event, they'll always say, ladies, gentlemen, you know, we ask you to rise. For the NASA. And they give people a few seconds to get up and most when you look at most crowds at sporting events. They're extremely respectful extra. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. And and while they should be. I mean, we we have a very privileged we live in a very privileged society. I the best in the world. Karen? There's no doubt in my mind. The best in the world. And we take worked at a food pantry. I spent the first few hours of my day at the pew at a food pantry. And I think so. Because we had twice her usual number of people. And I'm sure it was because people were trying to get provisions and before they before the snow, but Acton is a is a really nice townie. No acted very well. Yeah. Was the food pantry enact? And it was it wasn't the food pantry. This was another child close by town ideas. Still is that there are people here who need help. And it's wonderful that that is being done by private individuals. Obviously government has to test to take up the slack. But it's much more personal. And it's it's much more. I think it's it's so much more significant as opposed to someone getting something mailed, and they take to the grocery store is there's there's a give and take there. And I suspect you probably have inspired a lot of people. I what you've done over the years who might have been in a position where they needed some help that when they turned around a year or so later they were back on. On their feet. I'll bet you some of those people are also now who food pantry volunteers. Well, I don't know. I I see a fair number of retirees there people who are, you know, some people who retired a little early like in their fifties. Or some people retired a little later. I would say that in this particular pantry most of the folks that are working there are either getting their volunteer hours for school or folks that have that don't have fulltime work anymore. I know when I was between jobs, I was going in and volunteering help keep my head on straight because I was really saying. Wow. You know, you know, you're right. You're not working, but you know, your your life could be a whole lot worse. Absolutely. And and not only that. But you contributing even though you might not be be be paid for it as you have in your career as a nurse. You're contributing to the to the community, and you contributing to others who are in need care. We need more people like you is simple as that. And I'm so glad you called because this is a subject that I might not have touched upon ordinarily. It's not your traditional talk show subject, and maybe some people will react to what you have to say. Well, another because I was listening to the gentleman who was. Late fifties early sixties and was going over to. To the middle of the Middle East. Yes. That's kind of a sergeant sergeant Joe pull him. He was. I guess last week and just an amazing guy. What that brought to mind is. We're very fortunate here in Massachusetts that each town has a Representative of for veterans affairs. They there are all kinds of benefits that are available for veterans that I mean, you don't have to be career military in order to get. I think I think those are some of the most important physicians in any community and have a Representative for veterans. There's also a great a great website called that that I'm a member of veterans helping veterans. And so there's this wonderful wonderful opportunities that that that people can get involved in to help to help others. All great points. Karen, I'm up on my ten thirty break. So I gotta let you go. I don't know if I've had you before. But I want to have you back as a caller because you you've raised some really great great points on. It's nice talking to you, Dan. You have a good evening to care. That's an excellent call. Thanks very much. You know, I don't know that we would have gotten that call on another night. So this is the sort of call. I'm looking for tonight different show tonight. Okay. We'll be back at the politics of it tomorrow night. Six one seven two five four ten thirty triple eight nine thousand nine hundred thirty if you've never called a radio program never called this program feel free. "Brain. It's good for depression. It's a great supplement. Very safe are ubiquonol. We have a sixty milligram. I we have one hundred and twenty milligram. I take two hundred and twenty milligram every morning with breakfast because I'm turning sixty five and I want a young heart. But also gives me energy. The last thing on special this morning is our vision formulas are macula formulas. It's important. They're important products. It turns out watch good for the is is good for the brain. Which may shoulder sense in the world. I never thought of dislike ten fifteen years ago. But recently, it's come to light. It makes sense. Sighted people people had vision about ninety percent of your information comes from your vision, unless you're listening to the radio that would be your hearing. But normally in a day by day basis. Ninety percent of your information is coming through your vision. In fact, one the eye. Doctor looks inside your eye with that little sculptor actually looking to actually looking at a party of brain the optic nerve, which connects tobacco the idea brain is actually a protrusion directly out of your brain. So it turns out the nutrients very shame. Nutrient started good for your eyes are good for your brain. And that goes without exception. I'll car with a LA vitamin E vitamin c. Right down the line, zinc selenium. So if you take these vision formulas, they narrowed an aging brain now, why do I say that? Custody absorption of some of these things declines with age. We don't know why. For instance, there's a pigment and vegetables and certain foods called Luton. And the research shows you need about ten milligrams a day to address the health of aging is secure vision health to help protect efficient, otherwise they're more likely to develop cataracts, glaucoma age related macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of blindness and aging people UV Itis, which is responsible for about twenty percent of all cases of blindness and aging people, you'll be Odyssey's inflammation in front of the I h will innomax legit generations damage in the back of the day. Could both lead the blinds. So Latino helps prevent both of those. What they found is people even on a really healthy diet, a really healthy diet spinach, broccoli what a salad egg yolk shoulder. Good stuff that contains looting. They only get about two and a half milligrams absorbed every day into their bloodstream, whereas you actually need about ten milligrams. So what it becomes really important, in fact, downright responsible to take a lateen supplement after the age of fifty. There's Manny Manny Manny human clinical trials. Showing that when you give Luccin to aging people versus placebo versus no looting versus a fake pill. The health of their is improve the anatomy of their is is made younger, and as the health of their eyes on the anatomy of their eyes, improves care fishing gets a little clearer effect. They found that older people with myopia nearsightedness and it wearing glasses. It improves benefited glasses and improves their best corrected vision..

"One was your final Manchester City jumped back into second place Liverpool still four points out ahead. And I think that's kind of what you I would say this to all Liverpool fans that you do have to remind yourself. I know that that's a gut wrenching loss because of the a the way that it went down. And we'll talk about some of the specifics of that. And be I know you disagreed with this when I said to you before the game. But I truly believe that if Liverpool had won today. And maybe even if they had gotten a draw the league, it was over that they had that they could have essentially wrapped up the league in my mind today on January third. Yeah. And they have not right now, they have not, and they have allowed Manchester City some life, and you know, so I can understand obviously, why a Liverpool fan would be, you know, pretty crushed at kind of missing out on that opportunity. But. You have to remind yourself is. Manchester City included there's not a club in that league. That would not trade places with Liverpool right now. No obstinately. And and that's the way to look at it. I guess it's just you're so wrapped up in the. As a fine you start. I couldn't look beyond people were telling me, oh, we've got this good rolling games. After city. We've got you know, where were we should pick a points, etc. Etc. And I'm like, yeah. But we've just lost the city. You know, I was so focused on this game. I mean from halftime against because because the game was was such a a wash your already thinking ahead and. Yeah. It's just it just feels so flat now, and like I said in the context of the game. It was a little bit over him back. I actually I actually thought Liverpool. They weathered the early storm of city, particularly well, say storm sit he didn't create a tone early on. Although I thought they started the brighter the two teams and then Liverpool high by chance that incredible manage where it hits the poorest comes back. Johnstone's rattles. It off Edwardson on it. Somehow doesn't cross the line. And then I think city dominated probably the last ten to twelve minutes of the half and score. And then you're worried because city commode the traps hot in the in the second half. And then you get a brilliant acquaint brilliant equaliser on you're like, oh here we go. This is what we've been seen from Liverpool, and it just never really kicked on as good. As Saez goal was. I couldn't believe the acres. He found himself in. I'm like is anyone getting across inaugurum is an excellent Ron to kinda pull Trent Alexander Arnold away. I'm looking at Manny Manny doesn't get back on his nowhere near getting back to covert. And I'm just. Yeah. Especially to we talk all the time about American football. People always say a game of inches game. Ventures at such a cliche. Has that ever applied more to anything than this Liverpool? Manchester City match today when you talk about I mean inches. That's not even doing Justice centimeters millimeters away from scoring that goal. Like, you talked about the Johnstone's Edison. I think it was in. I Liverpool would've had deservedly had the lead. And I think that it would be interesting to see ho ho city would've reacted now. Haunted city react to the equalizing goal excellently. And I think the death principles of we talked about before it, no really did come to the fore. I you can talk about the tactical. Approach of city, which I thought was very good. They kept the two fullbacks of Liverpool occupied on Starling against Robertson, really gave Robertson something to do going. The other way he wasn't allowed to marauder forward as much as he would have liked that was really good from pep Guardiola. And I thought you know, there were good innovations by bolt managers in the game. But the real thing was that city. A did not allow Liverpool the intensity day grabbed and sees the intensity straight off the early opening tackle by furniture, new on Robertson was a case in point. He's gone right through. He's a heavy, touch and he's gone right through. And he's left America on Fernan Dina was excellent hundred. He was really great. He reminded me Roy Keane in that game. Not as hyper as he dominated that game. He drove city forward. He won't. He won the the ball back in several occasions. I'm with broke up play..
