Census Bureau to miss year-end deadline to turn in population count

"To be the start of turning this year's census results into political power. But the Census Bureau announced the results will not be ready until early 2021. That delay will have big implications on how many electoral college votes and seats in Congress each state gets for the next decade. NPR's Hansi Lo Wang covers all things census related. He joins us from New York to explain what this means. Good morning, Hanzee. Hi, Leela. So this delay was confirmed to you by a source last night. Can you break down? Why this is so significant? What was supposed to happen today was new state population counts from the census. We're supposed to be reported to the president by the Commerce secretary who oversees a Census Bureau. These are the numbers used to determine each state share of seats in the House of Representatives. As well as electoral college votes for the next 10 years. But a loss is today's the last day to report those numbers. But this year, the Census Bureau is missing this reporting deadline. For the first time since I was put in place more than 40 years ago. There's no penalty for missing this legal deadline, but that does further complicate an already messy census process. So

New York Bans Most Evictions as Tenants Struggle to Pay Rent

"New York State is extending a ban on evictions as millions of Americans struggle to pay their rent during the Corona virus pandemic. MPR's Hanzee Lo Wang reports. The moratorium on residential evictions has been pushed back until the spring. The new policy requires tenants in New York state to send in a form to their landlord or court to declare that they either have lost income have seen their living expenses increase haven't been able to find enough work or cannot afford to move. Your governor Andrew Cuomo says the latest ban on evictions last until May. 1st. We want to protect tenants. We wanna make it simple. We don't want people evicted. We don't want them to have to go to court to fight the eviction. But we want to make sure they're not committing fraud, either, so they will make representations that will be legally enforceable. Some landlords and other property owners in New York state or behind on mortgage payments can submit a form about their own financial hardship to protect their credit rating and lessen their risk of

Woman in Riverside, California, brags on Facebook that she got a COVID vaccine

"From a riverside woman that's getting a lot of attention. She is not a frontline medical worker, but she has received her first dose two fighters vaccine. She posted a photo on her vaccination card or rather of it, And when a friend asked, how did she get the shot? The woman said a family connection. It was a big deal. Redlands Community Hospital. In a statement read, Lind's said that it administered vaccines to its health care workers and had several doses left over and I have to be used within a certain time period. It didn't sound like they had thought too much about contingency plans, because I mean how much effort would it take to call the local police station and fired Apartment to see how many of those guys are available. Just in case they have extra doses. Or any other patients who are in the hospital who happened to be above a certain age. David Lowe is a senior associate dean for research at the UC Riverside School of Medicine. There have been examples before of staffers who don't interact with patients getting vaccinated. This woman, though, reportedly works for Disney. Lo said. There's still not a lot of clear guidance of how to go through the vaccination process. It's basically left to the institutions that are lucky enough to get shipments.

The Sodder Family Tragedy: 75 Years Later

"Local officials could explain what had happened and help them understand how they'd lost their house and their five children. But jenny and george were deeply dissatisfied. When the coroner's inquest was conducted it ruled that the fire had been caused by faulty wiring. But this didn't make any sense. Because jenny and george knew for a fact that the lights had been working that night so it seemed impossible that an electrical problem had sparked the blaze. They were also confused by the latter that had gone missing on the night of the fire. They could have used it to rescue the children trapped upstairs. If they'd been able to locate it later. Someone found a ladder. Sixty five feet away from the house in a ditch. The solders never learned why it was moved. Or who had done it without the latter georgia and his sons had tried to use their to coal trucks to climb into the house and rescued the trap children. But lo and behold neither truck would start even though both had been working perfectly the day before and that wasn't all a witness claimed that he saw a man taking a block and tackle from the scene of the fire for context. This is a system of hooks and ropes. That can be used to remove an engine from a car. The thief was later found to be a local man named lonnie johnson as it turned out stealing the block and tackle wasn't the only crime. Lonnie johnson committed that night. Lonnie also admitted to cutting the sada's phone line just thirty minutes before the blaze broke out at this point. It wasn't much of a stretch for jenny. And george to believe that someone may be lonnie had intentionally burned down their house after all lonnie was skulking around their property committing vandalism and theft if he was capable of that arson didn't seem like too far a leap. The problem was they couldn't prove anything. Sure lonnie confessed that he wanted to rob the house but that didn't mean he'd lit the flames. The sada's couldn't even prove the fire had been set on purpose but tips kept pouring in and they seemingly confirmed george. Jenny suspicions for instance. A bus driver came forward saying he driven past a solder home late on christmas eve. He claimed that as he went by he saw someone throwing quote balls of fire onto the roof. If the bus driver was to be believed someone had intentionally set the solder house. Flame perhaps using a molotov cocktail or another explosive. If true this meant that their children hadn't died in a tragic accident they'd been murdered. The surviving solders were still grappling with the possibilities. When they returned to the site turned memorial a few months later it a somber moment for the family a chance to grieve and remember the source of their pain but two year old baby. Sylvia was too young to understand what had happened or why her older siblings had disappeared. Blissfully unaware she played in the yard until she found something that was decidedly. Not a toy it was in olive. Green hard cylindrical rubber object after examining it george determined it was an explosive device and napalm pineapple bomb to be exact if it was indeed an explosive that would explain the balls of fire. The bus driver had seen being thrown onto the roof and it was consistent with the loud thump and rolling. Sound that jenny up in the middle of the night in short lonnie johnson's suspicious behavior. The napalm bomb and the lack of human remains made the saunders. Sure of two things one. The fire was set intentionally and two. They weren't getting the full story about their missing five children. Jenny conducted a series of informal experiments in her wood-burning stove hoping to understand why her sons and daughters had turned to ash all of her tests left bones behind which gave her an odd sense of hope. It meant that her children couldn't have died in the fire. They might still be alive somewhere but with the stakes so high she couldn't only rely on her own amateur investigation. She took things a bit farther to confirm her suspicions. Jenny consulted with an employee at a crematorium after all who would know better

So get you our first question. Everyone gets it better. Skin your estimate for us. Ooh okay. how far do you want to go back. This is your your resume your skin. You tell me oh my gosh okay. Well i'm going to start where it all started back at home town. Buffet in newark california. Where i was dancing. I was the the the host like in the be costume. That be is still like my spirit animal. I feel like i got like my best. Dance moves from being in that hot huge costume. Because all my inhibitions went away and i just had the time of my life and i got paid to just stand there and dance around in fun little kid. I had lots of jobs. I've been working. Ever since. I could get my work permit. Lots of jobs at the mall. And that kind of thing. And then. When i when i was in college i worked two jobs anyway. Flash like my professional career post college. I essentially stopped a woman named harry cole who was the editor in chief of ebony and she eventually conceded and let me be her intern. My very first job in be industry was as an intern at ebony magazine and i sort of worked my way up to beauty and style editor there than i jumped over to conde nast and i worked as the beauty writer and editor at glamour magazine than i was promoted to senior beauty editor. And that's when. I got the big call. That sort of changed my life i from ebay chan who was then the beauty and health director at team vogue and so when she called me about this coveted position that she was leaving and thought i would be a great fit for it. I freaked out. And i just thought i am not worthy. I'm not wearing the god. I don't know if i'm ready. And you know to be the director of a department. I was only twenty five years old. And i had just been promoted where i was so i told her like you know i just you call me six months from now a year from now i would feel better about going after this job but like at this in this climate and the recession. I just got promoted. I don't wanna be labeled this. Ungrateful millennial entitled brad and then they find out that the job and i don't get the job that i'm like blacklisted. So i just was too afraid. And i said i said no. And then lo and behold even worked her magic and next thing you know. I got the call to interview properly or her position. In by that point my boss had given her blessing so there was just sort of a clear path and i got that job. I became the beauty and health director at teen vogue at twenty five and then at twenty nine became the editor of team folks. So amy ashley was the founding editor of teen vogue. She moved on and i was promoted. And then i decided to take a leap of faith in. I think two thousand eighteen. I took a leap of faith. After i felt like i had accomplished everything on my bucket list and more at teen vogue i just i had my heart set on new goals and i started my own business and i wrote a book called more than enough which came out in june of two thousand eighteen just last year. I can't believe it's been a year and the sky's the limit all the things that now. I'm just doing so many things that i feel like. Now i am essentially the editor in chief of my own life.

It would be to boost their brand and to feed their egos and that's not what we now well I. Mean Looks Steve Cohen has an ego to man by the way and it's fine and he wants to but he's also real mets fan but also wants to win it. Every a-rod always has been a mess fannings always said he's loved the mets that I I'm just saying that I I don't want them either, but I'm not going to sit here and tell you that they would want to win a world seuss with the mets. Of course they would I want Steve Cohen because he's got the deep pockets and he'll spend the money and you know what? He Ain't getting any younger and you know what are you gonNa you can't take all the money to the grave right you so. The government's taken half of it. So you might as well figure it out in this probably has a lot to do with what's going on with the mets right now and selling it. Sure. So I, I would just say that I'm with you in lockstep with who I'd like to have as an owner, but I'm not going to sit here and disparage. A Rod and J. Lo from picking that data wouldn't want to win. Of course, they would the last thing that J. Lo and a rod one is the last place team. Well, the last thing that they want to be on the back page of the paper being called cheapskates because they're not putting any money into the team. That that I will agree with but I do the motivation matters to me it does like the motivation to win the motivation why they want the team matters to me as a fan and I I really believe that Steve Cohen at his fourteen billion dollar net worth wants to buy this team not because it's a great investment but because he loves the mets and the Era Jaylo thing was just like it's an opportunistic thing is what it is. And then they're throwing this other stuff and I think, oh, it's my father's favorite baseball team and they used to watch them as a kid like I don't by any chance stuff well, I don't know about any of that. All I know is that. The wilpon and cats families have the right to sell to whoever they want to sell to, and what is the cleanest? What is the best deal? Where's the most money coming from? That's how I would be looking at it if I were selling it the fact that now all of a sudden out of the clear blue comes the politics side of it and the leverage side of it and the guilt. Side of it. I'm sorry I I get I don't want to hear any of that I. Just what I WanNa hear is who the mets are selling into. They have the right to sell it to anybody and they want they have the right to make as much money as they possibly can, and that would be a right for anybody who is selling any professional sports team for that matter. So That's where the ponds and cats is ABC decided that they were GonNa, go with Steve Cohen they are. They are in negotiations with him. They are working through the language and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear something before you know either this month is over or the month of October over. Yeah. And if you are like new to town even better way to get to know your entire neighborhood and then there's also the actual location at the red. So we've parted with EKO trust and they have resolutely on eighth southeast eighth end Salmon The red is actually a community A space and we've actually turned it into a concentration so now we're going out and where provide meals? You can hold up to easily. You know. Close two thousand pounds of food if not if we also get dry goods another thousand pounds of dry goods in that space as well so it's very accessible. It's in the middle of like right between downtown Beaverton Gresham so it's accessible. There is maxine and three. It goes right by But and there's a parking lot so there's no real excuse why can't get food But it's just one of those situations if you came to any of those locations like starting Joan will be doing it every Monday. Wednesday Friday from twelve one income in. Get your meal and then head on out. We three meals per person because we know that. Sometimes you can't be there every day so joining sure that you're loaded up with enough food to last couple of days at sell amazing. How many meals do you think you guys are preparing each day? You guys are in there so on average. We're we're trying to prepare about two hundred meals. Sometimes we get over sometimes. We're a little bit under But our goal is about two hundred meals..

"And that is literally like a way to describe Lo fi hip hop is like dusty grooves or something like that. This is always been the most interesting thing about hypothesis that it it sounds intentionally created to sound old. It's made in a way that makes it sound like it's not even produce well on top of that. Oftentimes producers will add in organic. Sounds like rain or Birdsong. Which makes it feel. Like someone's bedroom window is left open while recording and this is true in a time when home recording technology is the best. It's ever been right. Vicennium billy can produce a number one record from their bedrooms but listening to understand that. It's Jay Bilas combination of samples planes in slightly out of time with a lot of hits that then inspires so many future Lo fi producers and creates this whole aesthetic interesting yet stands in opposition to the kind of Anna Nick Chamber. That so much pop. Production exists in where every sound is like shrink wrapped and devoid of any blemish or rough edges. This Lo fi style is kind of leaning in and even adding in those rough edges in case you don't have enough of them the exactly okay. So now I feel like I have a clear idea of kind of the musical building blocks of this. Lo Fi sound but unanswered question for me is why when I go on to spotify. Check out this playlist M. I just assaulted by like anime characters. What is that about them? Pretend I don't know anything about anime because I don't if you search for Lo fi on any streaming service. It seems you get it. All of these branded anime characters often studying giving clue supposed to do and actually this is an important part of history. People come to low fi in many ways. That's for sure but something happens on television around the time that Dila is hitting the peak of his career as a producer that dramatically widens the audience for his style of production and it's connected to that anime artwork dylan his peers like Mad Lib and Japanese. Lo Fi producer new job as start making their way onto the popular TV program. Adult swim known for its enemy shows. Did you watch it also? Oh Yeah you kidding. Space Ghost coast to coast. Yes May Dragon Ball No no none. Robot chicken definitely in a profile from two thousand eighteen vice noted that this enemy looked that we're getting is at least in part due to the fact that adult swim was acquiring a handful of popular anime shows already using beats from these producers. So the sound that starts. Philip Chunks of empty airtime between shows and become synonymous with the programming. They start to use that sound as commercial bumpers. It made the sound recognizable to millions of American teens. Here's a sample of an adult swim. Bumper off kids out of the pool.

Do you think I don't know actually but I WANNA do it. I'll just over in a new. Oreo real confident on the inside. Just in case it. Don't look good on the outside. What if I just came over did it for you? Chiens chance to steps. Yeah no but I mean I would do it soon I think but I just want. I want to meet somebody that I explain it to. And they're like yes. I could do that. Yeah confident that you can do it. I don't want to do it now. You're not going to be what you want. I rather go to Quinn in Florida. Yeah I know that she can. She doesn't WanNa cut mayor. Well that's another thing too like if someone doesn't want to do it then. I feel like they're not confident in doing it. Either you know you want somebody to be like yes I got you. Yeah because she did the Bob. Yeah so she scared to do that. To loosen scares she was just like mad. I was like cutting on my hair off this. You throw back. Cut My shit too long. It is no she was like. Couldn't appointed uncut it in Through the points on US Q. And it grew fast so we'll speaking of cutting things off and cutting ties. Have you heard you probably haven't but I'm going to explain it to you. Have you heard what's been going on with the call? Her Daddy podcast with Barstool sports on my gosh okay. So here's some piping hot tea for you really quick. So call her daddy. Podcast is like one of the biggest podcasts. That barstool has these two young girls in Manhattan and they pretty much just talk about all of their sexcapades that they have they share with each other. You don't I mean it's just like it's girl talk pretty much while. Apparently they weren't happy with their current employment situation that they weren't making enough money and they wanted to renegotiate their deal this that and the other while one of the Girls Sophie Sophia her. She's I guess dating this like big executive at HBO. And I guess he was shopping. The show around while they were under contract with Barstool sports and apparently got them a deal with HBO so then they went back to Barstool and like lied and said No. We're not shopping the show around like we're happy we're fine where the set me other and apparently dave out not and he. He's been talking about it too. He hijacked they're looking podcast and their social media pages. He's been posting on the call her daddy instagram and like put out a podcast on the call. Her Daddy You know podcasts on itunes on like spotify and like all that shit explaining what's going on Gosh But long story short. They pretty much lied to bar. Solar shopping there show around while they were under contract and Dave was like while. We DON'T WANNA lose you guys as a show. What you did was shitty but we will. We WanNa you know. Come to terms with what would it is that you ought. He was he. They were making five hundred thousand dollars each to do this podcast and they were saying that they weren't making enough money bitch. You're making a half a million dollars to sit here and talk shit and you're upset and you WANNA fuck another deal like ungrateful. I don't think I'll ever see that much money in a year. In my entire live scene you know what I'm saying and like one of the girls I guess was doing like a majority of the work and the other one was just coming in and like talking. You know so but but but she's still wanted to do a fifty fifty deal with other girl was like wait a minute. When we're done you get to go home to your boyfriend. I'm sitting here. Editing videos and Mike doing stuff on social media like all that like background deserves. It should be like a seventy thirty split. Not fucking right fifty fifty. So apparently they're the one girl is Alex is still trying to get back in with Barstool and I think Sophia like out. I don't know it's a big fucking mess. But it's like I found out there making a half a million dollars and they're still about their sexcapades. Let let the people talk. What are you guys? I say won T to say plenty of his day. I'll do the podcast and a in a bikini top next time. Give me one hundred thousand dollars for that crazy. Mostly like female viewers. Listen to this or yeah and guys too. 'cause girls are talking about you. Know true interesting brains. Yeah Brain Star. I might just send barstool this video to see. Maybe we'll pick US up. They need some fiery Latina's in their lives good headliner. Barstool hires Puerto Rican sisters. Hey We're in Florida. We know the deal. I love it while Yeah I had to tell you that story but thank you for helping me out with this. I was having some fucking really bad day yesterday. So thank you for hopping on with me and making this fun and easy and Yeah we'll have to do this again soon. We will thank you all for watching if you don't already follow the podcast. "But I think it's particularly notable about low five is that it exists in this Internet driven subculture. That is hugely popular along with other affiliated. Jonah's Cynth- wave and vapor wave. Lots of people are listening to it But it's simple tenuously exists outside of the billboard chart structure. I think part of the reason. Why is that? This is wildly popular music that is composed almost to be ignored today. I want to break down the LO FI sound into its component parts. And try to understand. Where did Lo fi hip hop come from? How did it find its audience and finally I WANNA look at how this genre challenges are? Core understanding of what popularity in music even means Okay that's all. Yeah we're going to a lot but it's GonNa be really fun. We get to listen to. Some ferries soothing music in the process. First things first where did the LO fi sound originate among the edge of my seat? So if you ask me. "They're super cute. Though Yeah Kristin Cavalry was the host and it sounds like this too hot. To handle show is kind of similar Paradise Hotel Couple up and like maybe the last couple standing gets this money but from the trailer that I watched. You cannot kiss or have any sort of like sexual touching or intercourse on this dating shell. It's like wait. How're we supposed to participate in this dating show? I guess it's like a bunch of people that are addicted to dating APPs or whatever and net flex and the producers put them on the show to kind of curb the appetite on just like the physical connection and get them in there and actually get an emotional connection which obviously is the most important part. But it's like Y'all twenty two three twenty four twenty five whatever logger. I'm sure these people are in that age range and we want to have sex knows like I don't know how this is going to go but it's been number one trending on Netflix's for a while so I might have to dive into that this weekend really want Paradise Hotel to come back and another episode or another season of the circle. If you haven't watched a circle yet check out. It's pretty pretty good. As far as things coming up Let me think here are still waiting on my diy at home paint and SIP. Not until the fifteenth. Which sucks but I did. Buy A two pack of easels which is exciting. Those came and I think Matenaer just GonNa do that like every weekend. Paint a picture maybe decorate the studio a little bit more with our art which is Kinda cool So that's exciting waiting for those we're GONNA REDO OUR DECK. Which is so so exciting. We've been living and our place for two years now and haven't really touched. I mean we have the grill out there. But that's it so him and I are going to be decked out in masks and gloves GONNA head over. I think to like Home Depot this weekend to see if we can find something. Don't judge me okay like I'm doing everything I can to stay safe. I just want to be able to look at the furniture before I order it. I'd rather do. I'd rather do that in person than order it online. Maybe we could do is go to Fred. Meyer and says so we can use a grocery trip and still look at some patio furniture. If that makes you feel a little bit better. But that's what's on the way for us. That's what's happening this weekend for me but yeah just super super soaps to get this podcast rolling. I really appreciate guys listening and watching again. If you haven't had that subscribe button. Go ahead and do that. Liked the video like the post comments and That was fucking scary. Fucking birds just flew by A. "You know. We've got Washington Oregon California and from what I've heard and from what I've seen. The three governors have signed some sort of like west coast packed. Where we're all GONNA open at the same time. I feel like we've been doing a really good job about you. Know flattening the curve and taking every you know. Preventative measure that we can to help. Slow the spread And flatten the curve. Everybody talks about out here on the west coast because things are I mean. Don't get me wrong. There's thousands of cases there's hundreds of deaths in Oregon and California there thousands of deaths in Washington state because Seattle was such a hot spot for a while. But since the beginning of this I feel like things have definitely tapered off which is awesome. But it's still kind of sketchy. Weird guys like yeah you know. How were practising social distancing? We're doing everything we can to make sure that we don't get the virus but it's like were staying inside protecting ourselves from the virus that the virus is still going to be out there when we go back into society at a normal at a normal rate. So I've heard the term What is it her immunity getting thrown around a little bit so minute? I'm GONNA research that a little bit more. I don't WanNa talk about it without really knowing. Exactly what that means But I've heard and read some stuff and it's pretty interesting so hopefully in the next episode. We can dive into that a little bit more. But I would love to see the city of Portland and and just you know other cities around the country. Open up especially summertimes coming around. That's everyone's favorite. You know favorite time to like all and spend time with friends and family. That isn't necessarily in your nuclear unit that you're being able to see right now during quarantine so yeah. I mean we live for the is out here in Portland. Especially because like Oh. What's really the only time we get any sunshine and you know? The weather's great so you can go to different places like the coast or wine tasting which we're going to get into some things that I'm missing the most and that's definitely one of them but I still think as members of society. Yes you know our hopefully the people that are representing the the places that we live in our keeping our best interests in mind but at the same time. You gotTA protect ourselves to sell if you are venturing out if you are planning on doing some traveling just protect yourself you know what I like. Be Smart Practice. Good hygiene like what we should should have been doing from the beginning. I don't understand why that's such a big thing but people are gross You know where mass wear gloves bring if you can you know your own kind of like hand soap or hand sanitizer can fucking find any but yeah you have to kind of look at look after yourself because there's so many people that aren't taking the seriously which they still aren't. I don't understand like almost sixty days into this craziness and people still think it's joke So yeah reopening of of citizens states. I think that's something to look forward to. As long as we are being smart and doing what we need to do. Some things that I am missing most right now definitely wine tasting. I literally live in the Willamette Valley. If any of you have ever been to the West Coast or to Oregon in general you know it is absolutely beautiful out here and Portland is literally like forty five minutes either way to some of the best wineries and vineyards in the Willamette valley which is so wild. And I've definitely taken advantage of that While I've lived out here so I'm definitely missing that I'm missing just restaurants and happy hour..

"So toward the end of the song she's just like you know I've asked you a hundred times the claim saw I feel like that person and that where was that woman who she was never in right because again racism I'm just GonNa say the movies didn't want Jennifer Lopez they wanted some Latin leading you know what I mean it didn't matter who it was they wanted some Latin lady who wasn't even leading cause you never got brushed now she wanted her to be Italian they wanted to be non quote nondescript unquote but in the videos that self I would have loved to have seen and somebody murdered screenplay for that percents because I think what we want from Jennifer Lopez I think we went from any star is some sign now you have a life but of realness not keeping it real nice but like authenticity and there was nothing authentically Jennifer Lopez about any of like the cell where where's being there I know I know I know you feel well Goth icon film I've seen it recently again and holds up I mean even in a movie like g which is supposed to have blake ruined her career dealers and you've got to bring up Geely because okay so there are like five these people top of their head will say it's the worst movie ever made I haven't seen it but I heard it's pretty bad I see you know Hudson Hawk with Bruce Willis Ichitaro hornby and doesn't often glitter with Mariah Carey glitter with Mariah bad actually none of these movies is that bad hip hopper not that bad stop right there then anyway go on dearly also not that bad but it doesn't matter because it was dead on arrival she and Ben Affleck were in this relationship at the time anyway I would we say Yes to that movie of our Jennifer Lopez to of course but she needed some sort of person to lake come in do a rewrite on her character to me the character have a world to belong but she had been affleck though were high on their own supply because they could not stop doing things together and I think that they were both gassing each other up and like telling each other things that weren't true about the other person yes we should do this movie together Babe yes you should be in my music video for identifying the block which is the most raging thing to me I think they just back up why he does not deserve her he does not deserve to caress her booty I thought back then I still think it today no it's the truth thank you pastor.

"It's waiting for tonight and it isn't just that the song was catchy it was that the song basically eight the planet that's on with inescapable this song comes out follow nineteen ninety nine and some point it became the song for the end of the world rates because Y. Two K. was about to happen and I felt like people were kind of like they were torn like on the one hand we've got this print song that pretty much tells us what to do when the ball drops and parts over time well the difference between one thousand nine nine the print song and waiting for tonight was Jennifer Lopez was doing the optimists version Prince God us like a slightly right right right right you better hunker down and Taylor was like a Papa Mali and tomorrow at least it was one of the peak Jaylo moments too from a first record and she announced herself to be this recording artist it was clear that this woman was going to be eh at the center of American culture in a way that no other Latina had ever been at four right yes I think one of the reasons didn't have prefer us who is a wonderful actress Seyran why can't jumped zero fearless she was not gonNA compromise anything about Rosie Perez the movie right and I don't know what Jennifer Lopez would say her compromises were but I felt like part of becoming famous no matter who you are means figuring out how to play the game of yes becoming and stay maintaining the thing that you've earned at any cost right and by the time she becomes famous there's no Latin infrastructure in the movies for somebody who isn't white to become famous in lake to lake have parts that ex- explore the Latin experience in this country now so what happens she becomes like this Sydney party kind of person who goes first and just like we're sending party who had no black people to act with for like a decade and a half really she's frequently white adjacent yes and plots that really anybody could do and that had nothing to do with who she is as Jennifer Lopez or even as a Latina in a Hollywood movie so I just feel like the movies never figured her out and I think it took her a long time to figure out how to be in the movies rate she does Selena then she does out of sight plays a federal marshal one of many cops by the way the Jennifer look this is what they do when you're a non white actor in the movies they make you a cop so she played he's out of sight law enforcement professional monster in law my favorite jailer movie I thought she was so funny in that movie it's true she's still essentially plays why did you as in person who's trying to impress her mother-in-law Jane Fonda but the two of them have such great slapstick physical comedy abilities about Jane Fonda but I'd never seen Jaylo there's a deftness too which is able to control her face and her movements and it's not just like a ditzy clumsy person like she's actually funny in the way she's like giving side is playing all these pranks on Jane Fonda you know it's really I don't like movies were two wonderful women have to fight but they don't fight the home move I know but it just I didn't enjoy okay but but it is one of those romantic comedies that she made the wedding planner is one of them maid in Manhattan two of those movies where hits but it's her highest grossing movie until what probably is going to be hustlers so I wonder what would have happened if the movies had figured out sooner the truth is the woman made about two movies a year for a long time seen working she really working hard she's working on another movie right now what I'm actually trying to get it is this idea that Jennifer Lopez clearly had the makings of what it took to be a movie star but she never got an independence day she never got you know I am legend I am legend you and I both love I mean I'm not saying she literally is going to be an independence day or I am legend although hey everybody there's fought all these Dang remakes listen do that one but it's true what you're saying though is that she never had a movie that was built to showcase her for what she is really good at we never really got to see Jaylo fully BJ low in the movies in movie life is happening to her like she's like a woman who's like finds herself pregnant and then the level of man phones yourself married to a man who beats her she's got kill him at the end she just kind of seems to drift and all these various plot points but then you get the music videos and you see this woman who is she knows exactly where she is in space and time she's not tripping over things she doesn't have to fight with anybody sleep she's paying her own bills her life is not
