"Pay nba parker. I'm a producer here at the cut. But before this humble brag i was a film professor. And i obsessed about every minute beautiful and infuriating thing in film and television to be fair. I still do so. I was recently watching. The netflix. miniseries the queen's gambit because as a former chess club kid. I expected it to be my jam. So i was overjoyed and then befuddled to see the character. Joe lean the protagonists childhood. Bff from the orphanage and black girl. Savior extraordinaire whose entire purpose is to be labeled as difficult while sacrificing huge parts of herself so that the porcelain white girl can play chess and it felt all too familiar to me. It reminded me of this film. I loved as a kid called a little princess dealer. Decent thought i would die till i heard you talk about the magic. I grew up faithfully watching the one thousand nine hundred five version of a little princess by alphonso croissant about a rich orphaned white girl who ends up being a servant all girls school and spencer evenings in the attic with the orphan servant. A little black girl who shares in her daydreams in fantasies but unlike the queen's gambit for this cold where he comes from in a little princess both girls free themselves together and truly become princesses in lace and curls allow to grow up sisters. But still there is this disconnect. The black girls still feels like the friend on the sidelines. Even if she's spunky and nothing awful or bad happens to her. This was the case with a lot of the movies. I grew up on. They all had interruptions of the sweet black sidekick there was also lavender the best friend matilda. It's much better than being out there. And jesse in the babysitters club really an idea might be brilliant. And the most classic example for black kids of the ninety s was a grown man. Lavar burton as star trek. The next generation sweet brainy sidekick jordi la forge computer as we increased our power levels. Was there any counterreaction. Affirmative him but listen. I'm not here to complain. I'm just sort of navigating my way. Through this trope. It is not entirely a bad thing at all as a brainy spunky little black kid i loved these characters. I mean. I needed them. One of the first things. I noticed about the next generation is that they have shorty fords. I remember as a little girl. I had like a brown suede hip band. And i used to put it over my eyes. So i could be jordan forge. George soros outspoken introverted. He makes amazing friends. Went the android on this. And i was like. This guy is still gave the nerve babies though cool that is none other than the actress. Zelda harris. When she was ten years old she played one of these classic sidekick characters jesse the only black babysitter in the baby sitters club. I did not grow up reading the baby sitters club books. I read every single one of those books. Jesse was a dancer who always related to her kids. She learned sign language for one of the kids. She babysat and taught dance. Moves and the film adaptation of the baby sitters club was totally formative for me growing up. Zelda definitely plays the sidekick the supporting role to a host of white girls but she also stole scenes left and right dropping like flies. She kinda had to that was what she was given to work with. Not just in the sitters club but in every role she dishes for. I would be bassey token friend but not necessarily get to read for the lead over and over again. Zelda would hit this wall. She knew her potential by casting directors saw her as the bouncy token friend it starts to wear on you as a kid because you have the power nation. You're working in an industry that can make anything happen. You got competence muppets. Cgi and all this stuff going on who still getting very consistent. Message that you're here to support and so okay Yeah the cameras going to be. Set up right here. You're gonna stand on the side. I'm not sure if you're gonna be in this shot. Whoa having mechanic realization was intense. This realization was extra intense for zelda. Because she knew it didn't have to be this way. She started her acting career in the leading role. Her very first film was spike. Lee's crooked where she starred as troy maybe other people with mommy and scream and yell at you can't do. It wasn't all inclusive set with women and people of color where she had the starring role in black and brown film.

Jaylen Brown Scores Career High 42 Points in Blowout Over Grizzlies

"Jaylen brown man. What a first half incredible twenty six points ends up with forty two career high. I mean what he's able to do it. We know what he's able to do and transition. But i love when he's going in half court set down the middle slicing through defenders. I mean that's the jail that makes you wait a minute. This guy can really really be. Explosive can be dangerous. Sort of you know reach that plateau. When you're like wait a minute not can stop this because jaylen brown Efficient on his own newly irregular shooting night. He's not bad when it comes to shooting anywhere between forty to fifty percent. Let's say right. It's very worrying to see jalen go blowback for. So when he's really on. He's really on and for jason tatum. The sort of nolan. Do his thing and i don't mean that as in like he's allowed this to happen. But you know what i mean like to see those to sort of blend together both go away from behind the arc. The chemistry obviously looked great. Everyone was in the full. He was also being a playmaker as well. Looking for guys gang guys open looks. I mean it was. It wasn't it was great. It was great battle. Is that what you wanna even jaylen brown. Yeah it was the memphis grizzlies. Yeah john moran didn't play. i mean the same digits. Beat the the the the brooklyn nets when cares. Lavar was really cooking. You know. And i thought that that was a that was a good display. What they can do lease defensively and obviously knew. The celtics were favored his one. But i just thought the celtics bitten. They didn't let up you. Don't typically we give big lead in the come right back then of course in the second half no. It was solid

Breaking Down Tonights NBA Draft: The Players, The Picks, and Virtual Fashion

"Mike schmidts. Thank you for joining me mandy day that you work towards every single year has finally arrived. Yeah i feel like this is our our super bowl and we've been waiting for this forever. I we thought it was going to be in june. And then maybe october and now here in november so you know i think teams and myself are very excited to get this one of the books. Mike schmidts is an nba draft analyst for espn. And he's been traveling the world scouting nba prospects for nearly a decade. I love the nba. draft personally. I went to the draft at the garden. Growing up in new york as a sad knicks fan and i still love the draft. Which tells you something about my own personal pathologies. The weirdness of this draft mike. You said it. This is going to be held in a way that has never been seen before. It's going to be entirely remote adam. Silver the commissioner. Mark tatum the deputy commissioner. They're going to be reading out. Picks live from espn studios in bristol. Where you are right now. So tell me what it's been like for teams and for players to go through this whole draft process in the midst of a global pandemic. It's been very very challenging for teams and players alike from the team side. They're used to having march madness the nba draft. Combine tournaments like portsmouth invitational. Which is where you see. You know a jimmy butler and some of these seniors pop up. They're able to have their individual workouts one on one workouts team workouts. I really have these guys in their building and this pre-draft process that just simply hasn't been the case so think you have teams kind of relying on a lot of these zoom calls right. We've all been kind of zoom jail more or less for the last few months You know they're relying on film. They're relying on intel and then from the players perspective. I think they just want to finally hear their name called. I mean this is the moment that they've been waiting for their entire lives. And so i feel a lot of these kids just having to have this. Push back and push back in push-back. They've each had very different circumstances. I mean some guys are like in the gym working out with nba players. Every day. some are with you know their brother and their cousin and some empty. Jim just one on getting workout. Since so it's been very strange. I guess the thing. I think of when i think about what might be lost in this iteration of the draft like are they going to be suits mike. Are we gonna get like nba draft fashion. That we've been blessed by in the past. Oh we're getting it it's coming it's coming virtually you're not gonna see that same strut the same level of excitement that we generally get in barklays within walking up on the stage but from everything i've seen out on social media everything i've heard. I think the suit game is still going to be strong. Yeah i just want if one of those guys wanna go retro and bring back like the seventeen but in suit. I just wanna make sure. The camera frame contains all seventeen of those budgets. We're gonna do everything we can to get that done. I hope we really really highlight the fashion. Because that that might steal the night to be honest i want to take a deep dive into the top three players in the draft to start here because the three of them. You've been talking about relentlessly for months. Now lamelo ball. James wiseman anthony edwards. They're all still in play for the number one overall pick which belongs of course to the minnesota timberwolves and i want to start with lamelo because we know as the brother lonzo the son of lavar and he chose to play overseas australia instead of going to the college game but for the uninitiated ear. What is lamelo offered to whichever team does end up selecting him tonight. I think he's the best prospect in the draft. Honestly i think if he played at duke kentucky enter any big name college program and he didn't have some of the questions about kind of the circus that has surrounded him at times in his life. I think he would be the runaway number. One pick in terms of his game. I mean he's a big point guard. Six seven close to six foot. Eight is one of the youngest players in the draft. Who was a late bloomer. So i think people remember him as the young you know twelve year old looking kid bomb and half court shots but he's really grown into his frame as great size has the ball on a string as a ball handler. He's incredibly shifty and smooth and his playmaking is ridiculous. The way he sees the game is really really special.

"I would also love to talk to you about you co-founded Luba and my little by. Dot, and that's a startup for educational voice experiences which gets excited just talking about it. So tell me more about Lavar. Live by first shortfall lauren voice in battle. Re Edit the second Ohio because us like a antibioticum in eastern Europe that is called Bar with one single. Oh so we went ahead and just edit the second. Oh This is like real focused on educational voice APPS and. Experiences for kids as. I have two kids on my own and my two co founders also have kids. And in early twenty twenty, there was an attack challenge by Amazon so we teamed up. With altria three of us and we came up with the idea for live Bouba and live about an educational voice experience where kids can compete against classmates from school when the are at home. So we came up with this idea even before corona hit. But the even better idea. Now, a kitsap sitting at home was closed and lockdown happening. So teachers can use our system at questions and quizzes for classes. Am The wild sitting at home can use our skill s or ski lists like the first ever. Life Moody Play Skill where you can play against your classmates Alexa Alexa device. To stay in the lobby and wait for the players to join, and then you can challenge your classmates, only your classmates and so you know who are playing against and then you get five questions that are. Teach out. Enters into our system and you win the round when you're answering the most questions correctly the shortest amount of time. I. Love that. That sounds like a lot of fun. So you get a little bit alerting. Competition in their and game game of buying it, which always makes it more fun education. I think we many of us believe and I have two kids. Myself is a place where it definitely needs to be reinvested and I love when I hear about technology reinventing education and I think voice has such a powerful of log conversation many conversations with Julie Daniel Davis about this. Voice in education and the opportunities there Nadan just I love it because not only. Is Re using tack to reinvent education but voices the different medium. There are kids who maybe they struggle with reading. But Craig are really good or label what they hear things they understand and so I love the idea yes you get the lecture from the teacher but using voices systems, the way of augment that type of learning even if you don't struggle with it, it's a different type of learning when you hear it and speak than when you read and so it Augmentin. Completes the education and outside of the classroom. Now, if I can use voices away to learn, it's a great unlock for education. So great job. Thanks.

Kanye West Says He Wants Taylor Swift's Masters Returned to Her

"West. Conney. Let's I don't know if he's listening to crystals nightcap the chances are point zero, zero, zero, one percent, but he's out here. What we need him to do I don't know if he's all talk right now I'm really hoping he'll walk the walk but today he tweeted something that I have personally been hoping that he would tweet for the past few years. So he tweeted that he is going to personally see it that Taylor swift gets her masters back from Scooter Braun. He says Scooter Braun is a close family friend and that he believes Taylor should own her masters. So either Connie seeing my tweets or he's listening to our podcast or he seeing the swift that are attacking him on twitter or he's just. A good guy. No I do think he's a good guy. You guys know that I've been. Back and forth with Connie, it's been really hard to be a a loyal fan to him because of his past. But as of recent watching his interviews and stuff I feel like. What he saying makes sense I admire his passion and his perseverance. I think he is a genius I think sometimes geniuses. Think, way ahead of their time and I think that's where Connie's been stuck at because he did address the whole him wearing a make America. Great again, make America great again hat and He said that with that whole thing, he was just trying to show that just because you're I'm black just because you're black doesn't mean that you have to be a Democrat or follow the status quo like he wants to show that he can do whatever he wanted to do, and in that he did hurt people. He didn't really acknowledge that or apologize for hurting his fans that way and that was years ago. That was four years ago however I do understand and see where he's coming from in that aspect and now that he's saying that he wants. To help Taylor swift with her masters. Dare I say that I'm becoming a Connie Stan again like dare I he's also been tweeting about drake lot and Not. Going to lie. It does make him look a little bitter like it makes him look kind of like a hater. And I think. Maybe it's just because drake hasn't been responding publicly and I've been saying that like one here. Drake's going to say but drinking say nothing drake. He's a man of very little words drake. He'll put it all in his music. You know he told US exactly how he felt about too cautious with his latest song, which is called laugh now cry later right And I think the same is going to happen with this situation I. think that we're going to go new song from Drake and he's going to be subliminally addressing these things. Because It's just hard to stay silent for so long when you are. In the middle of. The biggest artists. Twitter outbursts, thoughts. This is what kind of an episode but not really again, I don't want to discredit him because I feel like he's saying facts saying what's true and I've said this and I started tweeting. A few days ago or was it weeks ago? So I just really WANNA. See what Drake's going to say I am happy that Kanye got his twitter back definitely gives us something to talk to and look forward to I'm happy that he's tweeting positively about Taylor Swift I'm happy that he's scooter bronze family friend. You know what I think about Scooter Braun. I think he's awful. I really. Think he's off for. I, think that he likes to play the victim I think that he likes to play innocent He knows that he has Justin Bieber on his back. He knows that he has day when Lavar. That's got his back and I just think it's really wrong what he did to Taylor buying her masters when. He knew that she couldn't do it herself I think it was really wrong i. think it was dirty that he was posting stuff on his social media saying you know high bought Taylor swift or his friend posted that like imagine his friend posted ella when your friend buys Taylor swift and it was like the article of him buying her masters and then Scooter Braun reposted that I thought that was very tasteless and kind of like rubbing it in Taylor's face and. Do, I think Kanye West is going to persuade Braun to give Taylor her masters no I I don't think that Scooter Braun is. An undercover narcissist

Residential building giant posts surprising 3rd-quarter profits

"Going to start today with homebuilding Lenore corpse third quarter profits came in solidly higher than Wall Street was expecting I know shares are down a little bit but. I don't know Jason I mean Lavar gross margins are improving and the low interest rate environment certainly helps. Yeah it's absolutely helping and I mean we we've certainly seen signs that the housing market is not not only stable but really flourishing, which is kind of interesting to try to square in this in this. Time but but hey, that's that's housing right? It's it's one of those things that everybody needs. These results I was really impressed earnings were up thirty three percent on relatively flat revenue I. Mean Anytime you have a company that can do that I mean you got at least take note and try to figure out what they're doing to see if they can't. Keep on doing it. If you look at the numbers that deliveries of thirteen thousand, eight, hundred, forty tunes that was up just two percent they new orders. Of a little bit better than fifteen, thousand, five, hundred homes that was up sixteen percent. Dollar value of six point, three, billion dollars was up twenty percent and also a strong backlog backlog dollar value of close to eight billion dollars up four percent, and so all in all, what we're seeing what management noted is that the fundamentals in the housing market are very strong in that supported, of course, by record low interest rates. As, well, as a relatively undersupply, relatively continued undersupply of new and existing homes. You know anecdotally I will say like we're in the middle of refinancing our home here and you know what comes with refinancing a home as you get the appraisal to make sure that the value the home is, is there so that the bank and can? Crunch the numbers correctly in in certainly if it seems like valuations in our area are continuing to go up and I would imagine. They're seeing seeing that in a lot of places and then it'll be really interesting to see here as. The pandemic continues as companies start to reassess how they. are handling their workforce I. Mean If more folks start fleeing big cities for suburbia that absolutely has the potential to continue pushing up the demand for for these homes, which ultimately pushes up the prices put pushes up the. Performance for companies like Lenore, in being the largest home builder out there by revenue I mean certainly this another quarter of excellent.

Nature, or nurtured? A politicised virus-origin hunt

"The origin of the novel Corona Virus Wear and POW. Actually I infected. Human has become more than a scientific question yesterday. President Donald Trump claimed he had seen evidence that the virus came from a laboratory in China will look at exactly where it came from who it came from how it happened. Separately and also scientifically. So we're going to be able to find at my question is. Have you seen anything at this point that gives you a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Urology was the origins virus? Yes that's not what Mr Trump's own intelligence services have suggested they say they've seen no evidence of genetic engineering and that's what scientists are saying so far too but the story is nowhere near complete before the initial outbreak. In a Chinese city of Wuhan. The trail goes cold. There's much more than a blame game at stake here. Finding out exactly how. This latest corona virus made the leap into humans is vital putting a stop to future outbreaks over the last twenty years. Humans have been hit three times by Corona viruses that cools fatalities. Natasha Luder is our health policy editor. The first signs of trouble were in two thousand two. When saws entered human population. The second sign of trouble was in two thousand twelve when mesmerized somewhere in the Middle East and now the question everybody in the Raji and epidemiology wants answered is where exactly Saws Kobe. To the virus that causes coded nineteen came from are the potential origins of this corona virus. Well the main theory is that this virus jumped from an animal probably in the city of Wuhan towards the end of last year another theory. Is that the spillover event as they're called happened somewhere else and the virus actually has been spreading in humans unnoticed for some time and it arrived in the food markets on was simply kind of amplified in the unsanitary conditions that the Wuhan Market was Warren of little shops. The animals are being gutted that kept in cages on top of each other and it sounds really kind of unsanitary. The third theory which is seen as less likely is that it leaked from Lavar trade. That was handling viruses. And why is it so important to address that question specifically the origin question? A number of reasons the most important being that if there's a precursor virus that is circulating currently in an animal now in China it could jump over into humans again and could cause another outbreak if we can find out how this virus jumped over into humans the maybe we can stop these kind of things happening again in the future. Where does the research point so far with the current state of play in terms of an origin most human corona viruses like saws covy to have animal origins both saws original saws on murders that ancestral virus was about that bat virus then transferred into an intermediate animal and then jumped into humans? We already know that there is a bat virus that look similar to size covy too so we have some clues that are pointing in that direction too. Why is the hunt on for an intermediate animal? Why is it so certain? Hasn't come directly from bats. Well it is possible that it came directly from bats but the fact is the humans. Don't have much contact with bats. And so the way that we have had viruses before that have ultimately oath origin tobacconists through an intermediate species with Mas. The Bat virus jumped into camels in the case of Sauce. Kofi we don't know what the intermediate species is this being a lot of speculation people wondering about penguins. We know that it's the virus could transfer into cats. It could be any of a number of animals. You keep saying jumping and transference. How exactly does that happen? I is it changing all the time. And so if you imagine you've got a virus in a bat and every time it reproduces though be an era a genetic mutation and so they changed. Just slowly through random mutation. That's one way but if there are two different viruses in the SAIMAA animal on Bass do carry a number of different current viruses. What happens is the two different viruses can exchange genetic information through something called recombination and recombination allows for kind of big shifts in the way that a virus works and so you can exchange loss of genetic material between two devices will unavoidable questions. Here is the line of inquiry about not having been a complete random event about it being engineered in a lab some conspiracy theorists would suggest scientists have looked at at theory Eliana and they dismissed quite quickly and said it just doesn't like it's been genetically engineered if you were going to genetically engineered virus you would take bits of. Barr says that exist you Bolton together to create something new and that isn't the case this sequences completely novel. It looks like it's the product of some sort of naturally evolutionary process. So we can rule out the genetic engineering but we can't rule out is a laboratory release a tall. There's no doubt that to laboratories in will hand were working with back Corona viruses. But some people have pointed out that with lots of people handling bats in these laboratories. Isn't it possible that the bat virus jump straight from the baton to human who is infected in some kind of laboratory accident and who then carried it into the city of Wuhan Festival? It's very difficult. Proven negative and so one of the concerns about this hypothesis is while it's a completely reasonable question to ask. The question has become quite political. Nasty Way I'm not ready to rule out the possibility of a laboratory origin but I think it has to be one of the less likely options that we are pursuing. If we'RE GONNA get distracted by essentially politicians trying to score points win. Lose sight of the science questions which important public health will permit to be distracted. Though you say people are in these high security labs that is to say these leaks. Don't happen I mean truly they do. Yeah I mean we get leagues all the time. You have leaks from arteries around the world. The math outbreak in Britain came from laboratory. You've had saws escape in China twice. You've had outbreaks in US laboratories. I mean remember the Dod. It managed to send live anthrax in the post to over two hundred countries around the world. I think you need to take a step back Jason. When saws broke out when I broke out when AIDS broke out there. Were PEOPLE READY WITH SERIOUS. These genetically engineered viruses and they all turned out not to be true and so it is a very human thing to speculate that that's swear novel virus comes from but all I can turn back to is science and say while it doesn't look like one. Do you have a sense of science will ever pin this down? We'll we know what the intermediate animal was or or indeed could be or where we might expect to see future corona viruses pop out and be able control that in some way. So I'm not to mistake. I think we will get to all of these questions. One thing we do is we can start looking at blood samples from humans going back into November and figuring out if they have antibodies to saws copay. And that would give us some idea of whether this virus really did start on that focal point of the Wuhan market which it may not have done or were circulating more widely in Wuhan off further beyond what scientists also need to do is interview in detail. The early cases for that. Some cooperation from the Chinese would be very useful. I do have concerns the that the charge nature of the debate is making it more difficult for the Chinese to be supportive open and welcoming to outside scientific inquiry exchange of information between scientists happened before this and it will happen after this. I would guess it would be happening. A little bit more consistently and openly. Were not for the fact that this has become such a political hot potato

"I'm India Lorrie Wilmot. And you're listening to the PODCAST TALKING. Journeys out belonging to blackness. Joining us today is Dr Catherine Sophia Bell. Catherine is associate professor of philosophy at Penn State with research and teaching interests in African American Afrikaner Philosophy African American Studies African Diaspora studies lack feminist philosophy and critical philosophy of race. She's an author. Co Founding Editor of the Journal Critical Philosophy of race a certified Yoga instructor in founding director in owner of La Belle. Be Coaching which Offers Executive Academic coaching workshops and retreats for administrators faculty and Graduate Students. Catherine also offers services specifically under happily unmarried and erotic empowerment that provide individual and Week Group. Coaching workshops and retreats designed to support the social emotional and physical wellbeing of her clients. Thank you for having me Katherine. Let me tell you. I just love the way. You're able to demonstrate for so many folks out there. How one in academic can be multifaceted in dynamic right. Don't sit at a desk. Let's read in on this thing right and then also to how as an African descended person and woman how he can truly embrace and live in your truth when it comes to your personal relationships and partnerships and even with yourself as it is the case with happily unmarried and then I love this and open to the sixty nine ways to embrace ecstasy. Yeah I mean there's more but sixty nine such a fun number and then I'm also my son. Signed his cancer and sign kind of looks like a sixty nine so I like playing with things like Bat. I love that. And so all of this falls under your business tagline philosophical purposeful and practical approaches to La Shelby. The good life. All of that fantastic. I'm so excited to have you here. Because you are such a brilliant scholar and you also have this really great. Entrepreneurial Mindset as well. I think our audience here will just enjoy listening to your journey as to how you've been able to combine these two passions. It seems to me I love it will fall right into our first segment. If you don't mind because I have so many different kinds of questions and thoughts act one call to adventure so for our listening audience. Who may not know you changed your last name from Gyns. Yes to bell and bell spelled with an extra e honor your maternal grandmother and and as I understand your maternal grandmother named herself. And Yeah and you see this active. Changing your name as a way to honor that power and legacies. Yes well first let me say I absolutely love my name. I mean every time I see it written down Catherine Sophia Bell like I get excited at the sight of my own name. So in terms of motivations oftentimes our names are patrilineal right. So many not necessarily all women are given the name of your father in. May Take on the name of their husband and that was my experience. So my initial given name was Catherine Theresa Johnson. My mother wanted the name Catherine after her mother my father wanted to name you theresa and then Johnson was his name. So that was my maiden name I got married in. Nineteen Ninety nine at the age of twenty one between my first and second semesters in Grad School and at that point I changed my last name to guidelines which was the name of the former husband I got legally divorced in twenty seventeen and I'm now berry happily unmarried. And rather than returning somebody that patrilineal name I mate name. I decided to go with a match. Lineal named honor my maternal grandmother so her initial given name was Katherine Smallwood. Which was my great grandmother's last name. Smallwood. But by the time she got the high school she changed her name's Katherine L. B. E. L. L. Now I have no idea how she went about changing it or even if she went through some legal process to do that but my mother got me a copy of her high school yearbook class of Nineteen Fifty two where in that yearbook so by the time. She got her senior in high school. Her name is listed as Catherine Bell. And so there's something really powerful to me about this black woman in the nineteen young black woman in the nineteen fifties by her senior in high school Made her name Kathryn Bell. And that's the name that she's recognized as you know later in life she. She went on to model. She showed up in jet magazine a few times and her name is Catherine Bell knows faces as well. You know that was just a powerful legacy to me and it was important Tap into in connect to that legacy empower naming oneself Have a match lineal name as hopes to patrilineal name. I'm so I changed my name Catherine. I actually dropped the middle name. Interestingly my mother when I was changing my last name she was like. Oh well I never really liked Teresa anyway. That was your father's toys. That would choice so she got a chance to rename me. My Middle Name Sophia. She recommended because she said you're Lhasa. In philosophy us so you can be Sophia. My Mother's middle initial is S. My two daughters have the middle initial s so we were able to share that s middle initial further sophia in the bell It's still sounds the same as the way. My maternal grandmother founded by added the extra e. Just a little bit of self friendship over the meaning of beauty. I think evidence that there was so much thoughtfulness and care. Yeah even your process to say okay. How do I go about changing my name because even when we go through relationships such as marriage? And you're going through the divorce there is a lot of conscious thought around. Do People keep their names Ryan or even when you're getting married forget about even when you're getting divorced but like when you're getting married some people choose to keep their name drop the name in my case I hyphenated. I've even attended a wedding where the husband and the wife decided to both hyphenate their names just so that it would on paper as well as the presentation of this new joined. Family Union Unit. That it wasn't that someone was giving up but they were just more so adding naming oneself is so powerful. I mean I can't help but to even reflect on scene in routes where yes lavar. Burton is as as Coon to Kim. Tae Is being whipped. He ends. It's you know this holder of active submission. That's trying to happen with him being beaten because he refused the naming Tober right and he's like Kota Day trying to be broken. Think about that example. I also think about the example with Muhammed Ali. Right where he's like. You know. Say My name. Say My name right before the destiny's child came out with it up. You know what I mean and so yeah. I'm not GonNa say that that you know the cultural model my mind that I figured I'd put that out there. Once I said it I was like okay. This is GonNa be the connection that comes up celebrities name that too. But that's not quite what I have in mind right. There is something and I think we have more examples of men doing that than or the example of men don't eat more celebrated than examples of women during that but definitely for me like I look forward to dropping the maiden name when I took on the Mary name but I also very much look forward to dropping the Mary name and renaming my for me. It was another beginning for me. Like who am I in this new chapter this new iteration of our life? And how can this naming process a reflection of that kind of a launching point for me for that? So that's been beautiful. Young kids is all about identity. And the all these different phases and stages just you know what does our about us and then our names judge. We're judged by our names whether we're applying for different jobs or positions. I mean their scores and You know them very well. Also but their scores of research studies and the employment field that talked about racial bias and discrimination based on candidates nate. I think that's a fantastic way to pay homage to her legacy. Thank you

The Running Back's Struggle

The Running Back's Struggle

"Josh last time we had ESPN. It was to talk about fullbacks today. We're talking about running backs in our way through the backfield man just like Aaron Donald Josh firms. Meyer writes about football for five thirty eight Josh late last week. The Rams announced in a shocking move that they were releasing running back. Todd Gurley. This was a remarkable turn of events Given that girlie one offensive player of the year in twenty seven teen thoroughly. He was discussed by some people as an MVP candidate in two thousand eighteen on route to the Super Bowl led the league in rushing touchdowns that year. The ten the five untouched. To the end zone touchdown todd Gurley and on top of that. He's only twenty five years old. What happened my goodness twenty five year? Old running backs are already aging out. The first thing that happened to him was he has arthritic me. So at the end of the two thousand eighteen season he had to be replaced and spelled by Anderson Mentally played a little bit in the Super Bowl but he was just entirely ineffective. Fortunately that ineffectiveness carried over into the twenty nine thousand nine season and inbetween. He was given an extension that made him one of the highest. Pay running backs in the league. So this season couple that knee with his expense the caps situation in a loss Angeles and he just became a casualty and I think he is kind of an exemplar for everything. That's going on with running backs in the NFL. It's this idea of short and careers injury proneness and loss of effectiveness and therefore being cut or getting lower pay on the day that he was released. Espn stats and Info. Put out an number that I found fascinating in two thousand fifteen year. That Gurley was drafted. Twenty two backs were drafted. Not a single one of them. Josh is still on the team that selected them. What do you make of that goes to this idea of running backs? Having really short shelf life season for running back usually occur in one of their first two seasons at least in terms of productivity in terms of touches. You wear them down so quickly in this league. Though it's one of the toughest position on on the body and so I think the League as we've seen so far this year they still are kind of have a predilection overpay for the very good running backs are the ones that just had a good season but on by and large I think across the league. You're seeing people being really risk averse and moving on from running backs after a couple of seasons. When did you notice that that some teams not all and we'll get to some teams that have continued to pay running backs winded some teams for start to realize that they had been overvaluing the position and wanted to invest elsewhere. It's hard to trace it back specifically to a particular team but I know that People in twitter sphere and analytics the NFL analytics of talked about the replace ability of the running back position for quite a few years. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the first on board to kind of spend money at the position but spread that money out over multiple players to kind of make the injury risks inherent in the position kind of spread across multiple sets of legs. The Baltimore Ravens are also one of the ones that the forefront of really just paying the absolute minimum that they have to at that position and actually getting pretty good production out of you mentioned that the analytics community was sort of early on this trend. What did they find? What did the data tell us about running backs really two things? Were most important about running the football. The results of run plays are primarily determined by run walking and defenders in the box. The defense and not who's carrying the ball because of that the finding is the inferences. They're running backs are interchangeable and investing a lot of resources whether it's the draft or whether it's free agency just doesn't make a lot of sense is also can be pinned on the changing nature of football itself. By and large. The data tells us that passing more passing. Early is more efficient right absolutely absolutely. I mean it's not even close in terms of the average value of a planet passing versus running on early downs. Then you still have to get into this idea. Of How much does it matter to the mentality of the team? How much does it matter to keep the defense on their toes? How much do you have to do to keep them honest? And so there's no question about how much teams should passing as a percentage of plays but is probably a case. They should be passing more than now. So are there any situations in which running the football is more advantageous absolutely? I absolutely you need to be able to run well at the goal line on Short yardage. If you have a running quarterback like Baltimore had last season definitely scrambling in design runs for quarterback are extremely efficient. Jackson will keep it on the read option expense at the thirty Lamar Jackson. Ted Pa Touch Lavar captain with the spin. This print Emma score. We saw what happened with Baltimore last year. They say hadn't run into that. Tennessee buds buzzsaw in the playoffs. They probably would have made it to the superbowl in my opinion. So there's definitely something to be said for the analytics and say stop running entirely and if you are going to do it do it with deception. Right off of play action. Get the other team guessing. About what your actual formation means and so they lose half a step in responding to what you're doing those are the kind of the things analytics pushes for not not whether or not you should be one hundred percent run or a hundred percent. You mentioned that Tennessee buzzsaw that beat the Baltimore. Ravens upset them. I think a lot of people point to that team to Derrick Henry and say see having a unique generational running back does matter. Look they upset. You Know New England in Baltimore. What would you say to that? I mean he got a twelve point. Five million franchise tag out of that performance. The back end of that year so I understand their point. They're looking at what just happened. They're looking at how he's being rewarded. No saying obviously matters but they beat another rushing team it the problem that I think the face the Ravens and we saw it with Kansas City. And how they didn't share. This same problem was that if you're built around the run whether it's by the quarterback or running it up the middle an wide zone like ravens did last season if you fall behind against a team that is also a ground and pound team in trying to control the clock and control the pace and you put yourself in a position where you have to come back. And you're not used to doing it or you don't have a quarterback quarterback that perhaps his is known for that type of play. You get what happened in in in Baltimore that night Jackson under pressure always lose ball stemming interception Jedi for the titans come up with another turnover hennessy. Titans are shocking the ravens whereas with the city chiefs they fell behind early three straight times but ended up winning the Super Bowl because they have a pass attack higher variants. You could make up ground easier with the passing game that you can with the run. When everything's working great rushing is the first thing you should try. And if you're good at it you should do it as long as you can but when it fails it fails pretty spectacularly and you need to be able to pass and in fact at the NFL level we ever parody is so prevalent that you really should just start out passing at that point because everyone's trying to run and everyone's trying to stop the run so the chiefs are sort of the analytics darling in this scenario because you know they passed their way to the Super Bowl. Josh they also have Patrick Mahomes right. So if you're a team with an average quarterback do you still think it's better to take a pass first approach in every NFL GAME? Even with a mediocre quarterback we find that they are better and teams are better and more efficient passing the ball and in sometimes. It's even more apparent when you have kind of an average or slightly above average quarterback because the defense and the defensive coordinator is almost sure you're going to not rely on them right. They're gonNA say well he's kind of crap you know. They're probably going to run out us all day long. And try and be safe with the ball so to the extent that you can put a mediocre quarterback in good positions like. Perhaps Tennessee did last year. Then you can take quarterback that had been floundering for years like Ryan Tannehill in. Turn him in to one of the best quarterbacks in the league the number one running back by the end of the season a guy that some people thought could have been the super bowl. Mvp was undrafted Damian Williams who is set to make just over a couple million dollars next year. How much does finance or the market factor in to know what we think about running backs today? I think you know if you're a casual fan. And you see everyone else. Basically on the team. Except for the punter and kicker getting more than on average than these running backs. I think it's beginning to percolate that. They're probably not the most important piece on the offense anymore. Things about analytics. Is that unlike baseball? Where like things got more boring? When analytics became involved when analytics can evolved in Football. Become more exciting. We want more passing. We want to go for it on fourth down. We want to know more so I one of the good things about all of this is that you see more aggressive more exciting football when it's played in the way that evidence seems to suggest it should

Medicare for all studies

"Am Benjamin Day. F- Names Stephanie. Nakajima and this is Medicare for all the PODCAST for everybody who needs healthcare except for Harvey Weinstein Harvey Weinstein. Oh I can't imagine why you're leaving about it not that cruel. Actually because he doesn't need it any way because he's going to be in prison. I mean I feel like I should say there are a lot of people locked up right now. Who Don't belong there and offer the prison abolition movement But at least let's get Weinstein in there before we yes. He'll have his health care. Although there are major issues with prison healthcare that will not go down that rabbit while now right because there's too much that has happened this week in the world of Medicare for all Especially this Nevada debates. Now you watch this shit in real time It was saucy. What did you? What was your initial takeaway? I watched it later. But it was a bloodbath. Elizabeth Warren with on fire in addition to being on fire Elizabeth. Warren actually shockingly looked at the health plans of some of her opponents. Who Do not support Medicare for all It's amazing how little this actually happened. So let's hear he dubs throwing down with people to teach and Amy Klobuchar at the same time so I took a look at the plans that are opposed to boost judge. There are four expenses that families pay premiums deductibles Co pays and uncovered medical expenses. Moroder judge says he will put a cap only on the premiums and that means families are going to pick up the rest of the cost amy. I looked online at your plan. It's two paragraphs families are suffering and they need plan. You can't simply stand here and trash an idea to give healthcare coverage to everyone without having realistic plan of your own. And if you're not going to own up to the fact that you don't have a plan or the plan is gonNA leave people without healthcare coverage full coverage. Then you need to say so sick. Burn seventy what did you think about? I mean we'll we'll get back to the church but let's focus on amy. Clovis for now what did you think of that epoch? Takedown you know. She was basically just doing the moderator's job here. She says that she support universal healthcare on her website and then to prove it she links to one of her tweets on a rural hospital funding. Bill that's not quite the same as universal healthcare for all in Springfield. That's like evidence of her universal health and the rest of the paragraph says that she believes the quickest way to get to universal. Healthcare is through a public option. That expands Medicare or Medicaid or. Maybe she hasn't decided yet. I feel like can we please stop dragging Bernie for not publishing a financing plan when Lavar doesn't even know which programs? Yeah and Warren later says that this is basically a P- posted note. That's like insert your health plan here and that is legit true She says Kosher has absolutely nothing about her plan. It's not a plan. It's just a I support public option and I think in fact their mostly running on not Medicare for all right. We don't even know what their plans have been because there have been no questions at the debate so far about either boot `age or club. Char's proposals because the media is so obsessed with the question of cost as if that's like the only thing that matters about a healthcare plan and we end up ignoring other crucial considerations like how many people would be covered. And how would access be affected And I think that this is like twenty sixteen all over again when Hillary Clinton skated on on a paper Thin Plan. That got absolutely zero scrutiny. I actually wrote an article in common dreams back in March of two thousand sixteen called the disappearance of Hillary Clinton's healthcare platform and I went through all of the health big national health reporters who basically did not support Medicare for all and we're backing the Clinton plan and none of them in any of their articles actually said what is in Hillary Clinton's plan. It was kind of a collection of weird incremental reforms. None of them were spelled out. Obviously there is no cost analysis. It didn't say how many people would be covered And again she wanted to claim the moral high ground of I support universal healthcare but had no plan actually get there same thing with Amy Klobuchar and the New York Times endorsement of Hillary Clinton that year actually they cited specifically her healthcare plan. As being one of the reasons they were endorsing her and they said specifically that it was a realistic plan. Even though it wasn't a plan at all and they don't know what's in it. Yeah and you know I in a way. I'm proud because the Medicare for movement has so dominated this debate that it's all that anyone really talks about so Kudos to us. But if you want to attack Medicare for all you actually have to have some scrutiny of your plan right. Yeah I want to see you in the next debate. The moderate candidates challenged on whether or not their plans can actually get us to universal coverage because they're claiming they're claiming that universal health care is absolutely goal and that we all share the goal of universal health. Care and I want to see if their plans are going to get us there. What are the odds that the moderator asks questions? We should start a petition gambling pool so we skipped over Buddha chick but let's take him next as sort of a separate issue. I'm GONNA play a quick clip here. It is a plan to solve the problem. Make sure there is no such thing as an uninsured American and doesn't without kicking anybody off the plan that they have this idea that the union members don't know what's good for them is the exact kind of condescension and arrogance that makes people skeptical the policies. We've been putting forward here. We have a plan that the majority of Americans support. Wow that was a lot of righteous outrage Ben. What do you think yeah? So He's referring to his plan here of course And the interesting thing to me. Is that Buddha churches entire line in this is that Medicare for all his divisive right even. Though it has strong majority supported the entire population like almost all Democrats Support. It divides the elites and everybody right exactly divides people making money off the Healthcare System. And those who are being screwed by the healthcare system but he and the reason that he saying his plan is not devicive is because he's mostly pushing a public option And the public option tends to poll higher than Medicare for all. And that's because it doesn't. It's kind of A. It's like a very vanilla reform like a very slight improvements You get like another insurance plan to choose from to buy Obviously that doesn't change things for most people But it's less you know there's less uncertainty it pulls well what he doesn't talk about and we have new polling on this now is that his plan doesn't just involve a public option. It involves enrollment and retroactive enrollment into the public option. So if you're uninsured and you go to the hospital for example you will be retroactively enrolled in a public option plan and then build for it you then have to pay for it afterwards. So Again this is in the same theme of like. We're not actually looking at these plans. The other candidates have come up with and whether they work. Or whether they're totally like batch it crazy So shockingly morning consoles actually ran a poll basking people. I do support a public option plan but then do you support a public option. Plan with retroactive enrollment. Which is the plan. And they found that again. There is pretty strong support for public option. Initially but once you include retroactive enrollment like the Belichick plan does the support drops to twenty four percent right. Well so that is I'd say more divisive than right. Exactly so yeah. I'm liking that. We're finally looking at the alternative zero to Medicare for all and how bad they are. Imagine being billed for several months of premiums all at once a year or a year And you know if you're in that situation it's probably because you were having trouble keeping up with your payments in the first place so I don't think it's going to be that popular with people Struggling his poll says the the premium. You pays up to eight point five percent of your income. So that's going to be a big chunk of change to get surprised build by the government at the end of the year. And that's basically what it is surprised building instead of like a collective health insurance plan that we all are participating

VAR Gives Chelsea the Blues

"Interesting way do we stop for today's game because obviously massive result for Manchester United but it feels like a match that was defined by those decisions looking table. Five points on the ninth and seventy arsenal as everybody. Back into the mix is for where we start. Just go over a few things quickly. Chelsea one one in six in the League manager having a brief please exacly the goalkeeper again. Well they copy understaffed that again. We'll talk about the reasons not plan. You may say definitely has You know gives you the confidence. Go Cuban behind you and really copier was way over his left for the false goal. Checks cut score struggle scoring. And all the good play on the English officiate in Var is just an absolute utter shambles on talk without you say the afterward this because it did win. The point through them chronic. Let's start with the Harry. Maguire one McGuire off the game said basically he could see by try was falling on him so he put his leg up to stop him falling on a guy who set off given some story to make it to make it sound reasonable decision. They made the truth. Does he kicked caught by. Its Way and a painful position and I don't understand the controversy because it's straightforward any normal human being anybody who's entity football should see that surveyed cow then. He's not given as a joke. Mate rarely the head of the p. g. m. oil an England. The referees should fall on has sold off the back of vest season alone onto the Taylor was at referee that Raffray game when hung homeland son was sent off. That was he missed that one as well but it was officiated by Var. It was very similar. Motion Offi win because as a dispiriting. Navarre is the crux of the matter. Here because antenna Taylor said it. Before as the on field official the game should be refereed by the onfield official. He was in a game he was with instant. Harpen five yards from the monitor from the very thing. That might really doesn't want the referees to go and look because it's taken up too much time it was five yards from the Monitor. It can poke the Cross and then a concession decision between the cows I mean as frightened the stubbornness and ignorance of these officials in England. Just a quick poll from the boys. Frank Red card view on Harry Maguire. Yes of course. I have nothing to say more than what the Guy said you know? I've been a defender and you you ego works when when in fact somebody pushes you and you get out and the funding start to to laugh at you and you have a reaction. And that's exactly what McGuire. He was upset but it goes but surely pushed him and the and when he saw me kicked him stretch his leg and he's a straight red card. We go a little bit. Further than Craig is going is the guy who washed the war. Don't understand football in never played football. If he would have played football it would have understand that it was a clear foul from McGuire. Read one hundred percent I think Russia is on and it was his decision in the first half as well which was real bizarre. One when William Yellow Car took Puno Fernandez on dropped the shoulder. Tony little step over went to the byline clear. Foul and the referee gave will end the yellow card for diving and it was almost an and the boys are absolutely right and Craig's absolutely spots on it. That was the perfect chance for Anthony. Taylor who's a couple of yards away from the monitor just to go and double check just freeze on sanity. If you like just to double check the situation it was a definite kick out higher. Guan Yu exactly what he was doing and it was. I think it's I think it's clear everyone. That was a clear red card. What about the disallowed goal in the second half that we saw? Chelsea thought they made the breakthrough dawn thing thought the again the guy is sitting there in Vr. And the and the decision when it's when it's fast and furious all young girls of it and it was very easy to spot and I don't know what the solution is because these are easy decisions. Sometimes I feel as you should have a next pro. You know in your room but it doesn't really make any sense saying I'm calling myself because the guys inveigh Autzen. I would see quite clearly see that Fred was the first one that pushed asprilla Quetta. He then falls into into Brandon Williams and then everyone assumes up Brandon Williams is being fouled but the first foul and the first push came from from Frank de agree. I totally agree. I think the guy in the wars wearing the Manchester t shirt in. Because if you don't WanNa see McGuire you cannot avoid seeing what Fred did. Fred pushed spirit. Who didn't have anything to do? But Pushing William so it's nonsense of course nature desk grace eight because I was. I'm a former Jesse. Players have people who are GONNA say he wants to defend Chelsea. None of which you did. Well they were courageous APPREC-. They did a good pressure pressing on my on. Chelsea deplete very well that game but the ref give them the game. The Ref the guy in of all the revenue done look at the Monitor but the Guy Lavar give them begin in this way. Like with sat here for guys discussing the same incident and it's rare where everybody agrees so wholeheartedly about it. Sometimes you could say well I could. Maybe see what the officials saw here but on this occasion and it's not anti united buyers or anything like that it just seem well day the officials you have to accept we brought br vow was brought in so the decisions that were that. Were wrong the maiden such. It's not decision would be fixed. We get VR and somebody looking at that monitor. Still can't see it. There's nowhere else to go and this is. This is what was stolen. And we've seen a lot of people crying vars ruining the Game Games gone. But this isn't vast phone if you're showing an official what we've all seen and he comes to that conclusion as that's nothing to do with David. Technology is to do with human interpretation. This is a simple debate. Whether you're wearing a red shirt of mandated as a foreigner a Bushel of jealousy. This is this is not. This is an impartial debate. Because it's so simplistic and the decisions. No when we were watching the Zuma goal I think we all say they're going to chop off because that's what it lake no that the reason technology here's is for people like us and people like the referee and people that support the whole when the effect of CD something as technology goes Bot and goes. Oh Ho. Let's clarify. There's something else in there and as soon as we saw push we all went. Well he's pushed anti is going is going to give the goal. Yeah and when he doesn't flabbergasted let me go back to your point or colleague made us not here and I'm not having to go with a discussion with VR and looking at monitors six months ago and Preto. An jokingly said we have to get used to looking at monitors referee and looking at replays. Now for what the hell was it talking about here but as it turns out the saw the job the saw think when it comes to understanding as an AFO that was right. Yeah these primarily griff rhys who by the way no it'd be seen at the two thousand eighteen World Cup because they were good enough cannot even luke a replay and give a sensible decision. That's a worry and the so-called dancers league in the world governing in France. They are worse than that. So it's a big forum. I think reference the afternoon out to understand football and the tricks of the players. Okay away from officials way from von. Let's talk about the significant this significance of this result Song Chelsea. Yeah because as you mentioned Kappa dropped again batch y starting when he just looks completely out of form as you're at least gave you a little something when he came off the bench. Justice called the government. We Chelsea goalkeeper is crystal clear. That Frank Lampard has a beef with CAPA-. I believe I understand. He wants he doesn't like him. I'm not as it doesn't seem as a goalkeeper. It doesn't think is good enough and he wants a moat. The Chelsea worried that if she held a fortune on this guy and hence the massive. So there's a fight going on what literally speaking as a fight between lobbing the ball that moment so when you do that then because clearly. It's so tight that you're gonNA have to play your best players. I mean she may finish in the top five. Or so yeah. It's it's Monday so when you make that fight with the bald as it seems to be winning because when you're not winning games you put yourself under more pressure on. That's an interest will cape what was going to come back and today then I'm not saying that's why be loss but he's a clear fi on with the ball that jail if they don't want to financial laws and he signed these road. That's fine when you winning games regular then not moment. Hammond and I talked to be creek. What an argument about whether y plays as you replace a was well the truck by the door by Schwab hustled a goal knauss two games and because he stand he's GonNa start him false quick said to me that is mental. If you want to get in the top four and you play your best. Yeah no I argued still will argue about it but what you cannot argue about. Its when you're putting somebody like Caballero and ahead of kappa. The difference between by Schwab is minimal in my opinion but the difference between Caballero and Carepa is a car and you saw in the forest goal show is a hundred percent all the B. B. Stable. Not play the best people got it done. Frank Lampard twentieth fats. During wrong he is content. There was a number things than I did. The kappa one's a bizarre one. Because the guys are right. It doesn't fancy kept. The middleman is obviously a check who's think sporting director or performance coach. I think one of the very highest level. So he's obviously in favor of capital because he finds Zuma's Gawky thinks he's really good despite a record fee for him so that's where that's where the dilemmas coming from on the pitch tonight thought competition with Suppo the best part but Chelsea was so imbalanced down the left hand. Side Reese James. Spent it right back enough. Liquid applied at left back and every time they went down the left inside cutting back on his right foot and you know. Lonzo is sitting on the bench tonight. So it's easy. In hindsight brothel. There was a guy. Maybe you could have bought one for more balanced and does your rude. Botch y wants a massive debate. Why because of his legs and what you can offer 'em behind is a midfield player. You'd WanNa play Giroud all day long. Because he's a good presence holds the ball really well and you bring these Midfield Plaza into the game. Meanwhile voiced. We've got to give credit. You GotTa sign for Bridge you win. No matter what the officials or whatever happens you got the job done and you all very much rate champions. They go and the race teams ray so say And they're one of them It's not a great Jason. Black has to be said in Chelsea showing cracks. The interesting thing is we've we've been very critical of has been critical socio the front paws. GonNa if he doesn't get this team from that position they were in over the

"A half million dollars by his former business partner Alan Foster according to a report foster calls lavar quote would a liar who fraudulently utilized big baller brand and ball sports group to fund his personal lifestyle Lavar Ball family parted ways with foster after suing him for for fraud when money allegedly went missing earlier this year so Shannon. What do you make of all this concerning but I really hope it's not true because it'd be a horrible look for the family? there are plenty of people myself included that doesn't have like some of the things lombards yeah some of the things that he's done but there are plenty of people out there that doesn't like or haven't like some of the things I've said or done and by the way you have expressed that to Lavar him exact you absolutely right skip but this would be disappointing and considering that Lonzo is suing Allen Foster. This sounds like it might be retaliation. Maybe because it was reported that you know Lonzo sadness lawsuit that he was GonNa do I guess when he sued foster foster would disseminate damaging information about it but given Alan Foster's background and what he was incarcerated for it he kind of loses some of the benefit of the doubt he does given his history that he defrauded seventy people vote over four million dollars spent time in jail. sentenced to seven years served five got in trouble on while Pirot went back for another four months gives me it just seems it's just hard by the way he pled guilty to one count of mail fraud and two counts of money laundering so he pled guilty not too though right go ahead so it kind of makes it hard to believe to take him at his word that he but I'm willing to let hey I'm GonNa let it Lee out yeah but I just really hope is not true on the bars fault and Lavar says what I didn't know he had this kind of background but I thought they were friends. You know he got a new IMF from the neighborhood. Normally where I grew up at we friends. I'll see for a long time hill one or two things happen. You went to prison. You went to the military. Those did really two options option being from that neighborhood I get it you know it's not like Compton is a small area but if you know somebody you know skip I just I just really hope that that this is not true for the bar in the bars instance because it would it'd be terrible that he took money from his sons but I was never one of those that believe that Lonzo was was thriving because the Lebar Lonzo was driving because Lonzo is very very talented. Lamelo is going to thrive because lamelo talented yeah because La Barca mark do what he said he was doing he would have Liangelo in the NBA Lonzo's in the NBA of Lonzo talented Lamelo is going to be in the NBA. 'CAUSE LAMELO is talented talented. Liangelo is not in the NBA because the NBA dove do not believe he's talented enough is simple as that yeah but for me from the bottom of my heart in all honesty I've had my disagreements with Lebar but I really really hope that this isn't true not one house. Allen Foster is a legend I. I hope it's true I agree before I answer genie's question. I'm going to do a quick step back here. It's always something the thing with ball in the family and this is not to minimize the seriousness of these accusations and investigations but there's this little part of me made that sometimes wonders if this is all scripted for the sake of the reality TV show that it's all just Kardashian esque. You know like like it's all made up. It can't can't really keep happening this way and it's like the end of this in the world. I'm viewing right now would be that it would play out on judge Judy show it's like she would she would be final one too. Yeah I watch it yeah. I talk too much of Judge Judy small plane so thousands wouldn't she set the all time raise yeah. She tried this case Joe do show me the paper so given all that I have no idea who's lying and telling the truth because somebody's lying somebody's telling the brick and it was somewhat amusing that Allen Foster is actually using accusing Lavar of stealing. You could consider his own money right because he he did have the purse strings. I know it's he's sharing them with Lonzo right but accused of stealing Lonzo's money well. I guess that's how you could say but is it is all Lonzo's many or some of it Lavar money that would that would really out of one that had the money I kinda like didn't you started and we use your name you Lavar and Lonzo we use the ball neighbor kind kind of mom when he got the ball so to speak rolling. I agree thank you for bringing up Lonzo because again say this for the hundred time on the show without Lonzo ball we would have never heard of Lavar Ball Lonzo's ability GR- put Lavar on the map correct and he became a household name from here to China to Lithuania yes because of Lonzo and then Lavar outsized personality -ality is charisma and he is he's wildly entertaining and always enjoy having on the show even though it just hurts my soul to watch what he's done to Lonzo by by the painting bigger and bigger target on his back which brings me to my conclusion all this the one person in all this I feel sorry for or is Lonzo ball because think about what he's going through he he thinks in the back of his mind I've finally escaped. I'm getting a fresh start way down in New Orleans. They're having their first few practices. We're GONNA talk about video telephones released and he's free so to speak of his father. Even though the love will never die but but he's he's got a fresh start we both think he's starting to show signs of becoming his own man and then all of suddenly years I soon last night wait a minute. Is it possible my dad's stole my money right possible. He siphoned some offer rezone. Use The lawsuit. The funny part of it was that he was using it to acquire assets in Ethiopia says ah what's his name Allan Allan boss. That's what he alleges that he was using some of the funds to acquire assets in Ethiopia and then he went to calling me telling I mean then Allan Poe's tell about all the stuff that I you know I was giving Lonzo money in college and you know solely Sweet Sixteen Jerseys and but skip I I don't. I don't really watch ball in the family but I saw this clip. We'll Lonzo said I'm own man and I'm in charge of a UH future he did and he said he told the Lamelo you take charge of your future. Did that's not an accident that he said that he said that for reason. That's not scripted. You know that's real. I think you're right now. The one kid who's got the best shot the easiest path hat is the youngest one because he sees where all the pitfalls are riled the minefield lays he can look at all the mistakes that were made with Lonzo in how Lonzo alerts the nominee to go down there. I only do that. I'M GONNA take Lonzo took a ride. I'm GonNa take yes Lonzo took a right now. I'm going straight ahead. Yes you absolutely it becomes easier because you see the mistakes that was made before. You and you don't have to make those same mistakes but all that aside. I just hope none of this is true. I really do skip this would be this would be horrible. Look that Lebron was stealing money from his own son. That'd be a terrible loop. I I mean and lawns. Labar said he didn't know this look skip got homeboys and they've done some things like I'm not look. If you've gone to jail for stealing you know for stealing money or why the bankruptcy you might do security but you can't be in charge of the money beat around nowhere near the money you can work security. You'll hip wake in to your point. Lavar says he had no idea he'd been to preserve right when when they will emit friends and family so maybe they were taken taken advantage there. There's no guarantee I mean that's not to say that he could have gone to prison and turned his life around. There's a lot of scheming and conniving inch crew out here that have not gone to prison bet steel end up going to prove this so I don't want people to think well just because he went to prison doesn't mean he he couldn't change his life and turned his life because he could have in there. There are a lot of stories out here of guys and gals that have gone to prison and turn their life around. I got oh. I don't want people to think that's not what I'm saying yeah by the way the. La Times did report the FBI is invaded. Excuse me investigating Austin Austin yeah so no not his claim. Oh yes in four weeks ago okay so they're already involved in again. Dan Is he trying to deflect blame bright. I Dunno Lonzo say I just want my money. I won't buy one point five billion all that Lavar hear what you're saying that you know I'm breathing okay then and I got a job in the NBA but I still want my one point five million because I want my money I earned it and I want it back yeah and if you can't give Begi going to jail this lawsuit is alleging far more than just one point five and you just want him to focus on a fresh start that we were looking for the six. NFL writers analysts ranked the NFL rookies through four weeks of play. There were two notable emissions funds from the top ten cardinals. QB cuyler Murray and giants quarterback Daniel Jones raiders running back. Josh Jacobs had the top spot and governments. She was the only quarterback in the top ten so shannon. Do you agree with Kyle Jones missing out on the top ten yeah I have no problem whatsoever with Colin Murray being left off skipped top ten. He has not been a difference maker this season so ten players have been better than Collar Murray one thousand percents there such a thing. I don't know if you can get better than a hundred percent but there is something better than a hundred percent probably say one thousand rookies have been better. There's only fifty hundred player so I don't know about how do I know him better than him skip so I stopped abruptly meeting skip. I don't know if anybody knows is uni but Calamar has been really bad in the first three quarters. did you know they played four games. The old all three and one and in those first three quarters of those four games the cardinals with Calum Murray at quarterback scored two touchdowns in in the first three quarters of four ballgames. Yeah that's what caliber has his resume. He has zero twenty six and two touchdowns in the first three quarters and you like and that's impactful worst yard for a temp first three-quarters. There's five point six skip it that good and interesting that not no. It's not your turn yet. Daniel Jones has been difference maker he should be on the list just boys first game alone he might have had the best birth gameboy rookie quarterback in NFL history to touchdown throw in three eight hundred yards two touchdowns running and the game winner now yeah it took an act of Congress and a handle formed win the gay but that's not the here note there to go hand of Janus but we've seen him be a difference maker this entered they've won two games. They're not winning that game. Allows allows their quarterback and they get down by eighteen as a matter of fact. I don't think he loves everyone again so he should be on the list just for that alone but Calamari not being it on this list. I have absolutely no problem because he doesn't deserve to be on the list and you know it..

"Got mellow which I hated and this is what smart people do they're like, you know, what doesn't work mistake out. They didn't try to convince everybody they were smart. They didn't try to grab onto their mistake. They're like listen. It didn't work. We try to bring in Carmelo it. Didn't work. Even Derek jeeter struck out a lot they're not paralyzed by making a mistake. They take risks. And I think they've worked really well. And I think they're going to be a good matchup for Golden State. I don't think they'll beat them. But I think they've re-engineered this team. And I love him, Colin, right, Colin wrong. Be sure to catch live editions of the heard weekdays at noon eastern, nine AM Pacific. Something happened this weekend story broke and for many people. They will say, yeah. I told you the guy was allowed mouth, blah, blah, blah, big baller brand. It's been discovered got ripped off by a business associate and lavar ball can't find one point five million. He got scammed. He is not a man that has one hundred one point five million just give away in a business. It's a fledgling business. I it's been a bad last six months for lavar ball in the big baller. Brand lavar ball was loud in the loudest guy at the bar is generally not the smarter. Guy in the bar, but lavar had some good qualities. I think he's a good dad. I think he loves his family. The problem with lavar is he didn't have a ton of substance beyond the loud. I'm okay with Lao. Charles Barkley was loud, and Dion Sanders was loud. There's a lot allowed guys. Manny ramirez. Made a lot of noise. I'm okay with loud. The kardashians. Make a lot of noise. But they're brilliant behind the scenes. They have connected with the best retailers. TV producers in Hollywood a gronk, by the way is loud. But he saved every penny became incredibly coach -able and evolved as a football player for a lot of people today. It's an I told you so with lavar ball, I feel bad. I think it's sad. He got taken. He's a victim here. He is. He's a victim of somebody who allegedly scammed him out of one point five million dollars. Which if you're starting a business that doesn't mean anything for a Dita's at an mean, anything for under armor. But for a man starting a business that's the beginning. And that's the end of the business. Some of it has been the loudness Lonzo. Oh, balls on the trade block. He's hurt. Again. Lamelo, how the China theft is Aster. But for those who were never fans, it's an I told you so moment to me, it's an American scam. And I feel bad for anybody who ever gets caught up in that and gets hoodwinked and snookered by that. And so I feel bad for lavar ball today. I do. Yeah. I mean, it's a situation where somebody took advantage of of someone else in it happens all the times. Nice lose of death -letes famous people get scammed all the time. And it's it's unfortunate that people were rooting against lavar ball kind of rooting for him to fail. And I know I don't think this means is failure. I mean, this is a family operation to begin with. It's just you're right. Like, he lawns those victim in this case. The families got taken advantage of by someone whom it stinks Lydon's scannon. Yeah. By the way, that they created a show called American greed Jeter watch that show and a lot of smart people got taken to the back. The smart people get taken advantage of all the time however, much money. It is really really doesn't matter. It's it's the principle of it. But. Yeah. I mean, you really should be rooting for him to succeed. He's going against the grain and and creating their their brands so the people that rooted against our fail number made sense to me anyway..

"Out. My podcast lavar Burton reads, I, I love. Love doing this podcast. Because I'm a storyteller. I mean, that's how I see myself and I, I enjoy storytelling in all of its potential forms. And for me, sitting with text reading aloud is such a pure form of storytelling because it's all about the imagination. It's engaging a listener in in their imagination, painting a picture, creating a mood that. That's really transformative. It really. It really can be. So lavar Burton reads where I read a short story and every episode wherever you get your podcasts. My last question. What's the impact that you want to have on the world. I want to leave here knowing that I did everything I could to champion. A human rights. In my view literacy is a human right? And. And I will. I will go to my grave believing that my life will have been worthwhile. If I was able to successfully communicate that idea and encourage and inspire. People become literate to actually enjoy. The freedom that literacy brings. VAR, thank you so much on the show. It's hard enough to work once as an actor, let alone over and over and over and let alone in a way where everything comes together to be so Optimus dick and empowering absolutely beautiful. And in no way, shape or form of prize that he's had. The level of during success in an industry that churns burns in his always looking for the next thing. It's because he's had that ability to look inward to have the self awareness to know where his bliss lies and know what the passion is and to use his words to do the things that make him feel life. And I hope that you guys heard the things that he talks about. I hope that you will feel your life in the way that he has not that you follow in his exact foot, but you do the Mira time. "No call. Okay. No, asks magic has been feel pretty good about himself for the last few weeks going all the way back to his press. Like you think I'm worried about this. I played against Larry Bird to getting the deal with LeBron James Dunn to sitting there and saying Jimmy Kimmel, I would call Jew before I called lavar ball. He he's making it very clear like don't even start even don't even start. That might actually be the explanation of Michael Beasley. He's like, yeah, sign Michael Beasley, double middle fingers. What do you think you think this rosters too crazy, fine. I found the craziest free agent out there and I just brought him in for no particular reason. What do you think of that a magic frigging Johnson, how do you like now? Yeah. I love that magic didn't even play around with that. It's like, no, I didn't call lavar. I would've called you before I call. You know, Limbaugh. It's interesting though because a year ago being asked that same question, obviously, magic wouldn't have called lavar, but the tone and the content of his answer Smith, but it would have been different last year this time last year when Lonzo was still, you know the transcendent face of the organism. What would it have been last year? What would he have said that would have been different might a laugh, but he would just he wouldn't have been dismissive towards the concept of lavar station with the Lakers like he would not have been as outwardly dismissive of like dude, seriously. Kidding me? Like who. No, really? I'm gonna call him. I've dated. I love invoked not that Magic Johnson has ever lacked for personal competence. So I think the magic is probably on the shortlist of most confident humans on earth, right fully can say with right release, so he's earned the right to feel that way, but it even even by Magic Johnson standards, it does feel like in the last couple of weeks or so. He's kind of had his just out even by like, yeah, guys, I'm Jay Johnson. I got this. Watch what I'm going to put together. No, yeah. I'm gonna make it. So it doesn't make any sense to the rest of you, but this stuff is going to come together. This is what happens when you get the greatest player on the planet, like the most powerful athlete in North American sports to join your team. Yeah, boost the confidence level a little bit. You wouldn't lack into begin one, man, Michael Beasley. Thank you. Keep coming back to this. What is Michael Beasley? What's crazier by the way, like what's crazier statement, lavar pudding Lonzo in the same sentence as magic and LeBron in terms of you don't need to coach him, just give them the keys. And then he was thinking, get out of his way or the the narrative that he still keeps pushing of all three boys playing on the lake. Funny. You say that in both the narrative about all three of them playing together and the fact that you don't need to coach, we've gotten to the point where like, yeah, whatever. Like we, we move it used to be, you know, slamming the brakes. Let's stop. Let's chew on lavar for a couple of segments in all of his comments would resonate throughout the NBA universe and we'd go over and over and over it. Is it bad for lonzo's of adverse careers, bad for the Lakers at cetera, et cetera. And now it's just like, whatever. All right. Next, we've gotten to the point where lavar almost can't say anything crazy enough. Enough to get us to stop and actually discuss it as a real. Well. It's like, you know, I mean, we're both parents in any parent will relate to this at some point. You learn how to tune out your kids when they're acting out and it's not like serious acting out and acting out. You have to pay attention to. But there's other times like, you know what you wanna scream yourself into. I'm gonna go watch TV. That that's magic right now..

"Be what we see here yeah but i'm most excited i think to hear what lavar would say after he got traded after lonzo got traded that's the only time i'd be interested in hearing what lavar had to say yeah that would be i mean it would just be hysterical it yeah it would just be stupid and then yeah i hard me wants to know what happens to lonzo in lavar because really you know what's there have been rumors about him going to you know charlotte orlando has been a spy he goes to one of those two cities like does he become a relevant i don't know you know it depends on how good of a player becomes right i mean he's a bad basketball fit will lebron he really is i mean that's what sort of weird about this team is that you know the guys they've brought in after i'm like but you'd have to think lebron was you know it's not like lebrons going hey you guys got lance i can't stand him why don't you tell me this like that couldn't have happened right the way so this is this is huge though this is huge i mean we can sit here and we can do all of this stuff where it's like we crush so many of these offices and so many these teams in owners never getting a free agent and dallas is always one of those two right you know when they get the andre jordan which to me i don't i don't what is their love affair with that dude i mean three years later as leagues change and it's almost like hubin trying to do something where it's like i told you i would get him and you go and by the way the dumbest rumor of the week has to be andre jordan into the warriors because he was friends with the rant dream on i mean does anybody have a calculator can even would he'd make the full mid level i mean what would even be yeah so hey you wanna make one five or twenty million muno those say tax though in texas we've light does so who waiting or do you want to bet on that i i just think dinner let's bet big fancy dinner and then if when i win you can take me to shake shack okay all right okay all right so if you win you win we'll go ever were you want yeah because i will well what i want to see him go there you know they're going to obviously would've title with him or without him won't really matter then people after the fact if you like you know what whites really matured and his year there he kind of figured out how to be like a real professional and the title change mmediately yeah i actually read a thing where it was vail brings his championship pedigree okay i read that i was like a real thing my favorite thing that i've read in the last few weeks rudy in i i should probably try to get it word for word maybe i'll find the lincoln and show you a little bit earlier and i didn't really want to.
