"And you know, does not like ostentatious displays of emotion vote for me when we finally get to the moon and the the frame opens up into an I max frame, and I do recommend seeing this film in that. Format. If you can can manage it, there is a real congruity between Armstrong's emotional state and the silence of that place so that that's where it really does come together for me emotionally. You know, as you get the sense that this is the sort of state of bliss that that Armstrong has been yearning for the entire movie, and I have an opposite reaction to you. Stephen, I leaned into this film got closer. I could feel myself kind of reaching forward in my seat to plumb the depths of what was going on inside him. I think that's what the same thing happened to me for him in drive and not in the nice guys, which it was just so much bigger. And so there isn't officiency to this film in terms of exposition, there's a lot to explain and once we get up in the air, there's not a lot that is explained to you. So bells go off. It's a twenty twelve error, and part of your brain is going to hell. How does that mean? But a larger part of your brain is no, I get it. Not good. It's context clues, right? Get it from how they react to it. If he says it's a such and such a Larmer and they say on the ground, they say, well, that's okay. It's probably just a fluke. Then you sort of go with it. If you've come to have faith in the authority of the people on the ground than you, they don't need to explain to you specifically what it is, and it's very different from Apollo thirteen where I think they went through a lot which is also one of my favorite movies. They want you to understand where the guys are in the ship in the vehicle so that you can understand why. Well, the oxygen ran out here, so we went over there. This film is I think you're right the opposite of that. It isn't so concerned about that even though you see so much of the preparation and the science. And one of the things that frustrates me is they put in the trailer, this shot of Kyle Chandler, like writing moon and underlining it which makes it looks so stupid. There's a reason he's drawing that that you get in the film. That comes from sort of them trying to explain to each other. Just how massive this task is. I think them accepting that shot of him underlining the word moon was a big mistake like you could have opened the trailer with the a larger chunk of that scene where you putting the blackboards together. Right? That would have been also, yes, I do think Clervoy doesn't does a lovely job in this movie and still has to kind of match Ryan goslings more interior performance and you have a lot of her face does a lot of work in this movie. She definitely provides some of the emotional center that I found myself yearning for. Right. And I think she's doing something smart with he had the option with the special effects technology up today to show us this process this moonshot from any angle. He wanted to any kept us inside that cockpit. We occasionally got some outside shots, but a lot of the time he was just recreating archival footage that we've seen over and over and over again recreating it expertly. But that. It does something that makes it familiar that casts it in, you could say, sort of nostalgia or you could say, he's trying to keep it from being space opera. He's doing everything he can to humanize and minimize and make it. So you appreciate the accomplishment there. I do think nostalgia is something that you have to reckon with in any of these sort of space movies. And when Chris mentioned Josh singer, Josh singer also goes all the way back to writing for the west wing has screen credits on the post about light and spotlight. I think there is a through line in terms of him writing. What people think of as kind of the pillars of American. You know, iconography the good doing president, the investigative, press the moon landing, and there's a kind of you do have to watch out..

"I'm I'm a mo- for me. Right. Yeah. All these guys what is show forty years later, I could still name the starting lineup, right? So how can I not go with the sixteenth to one longshot and the white shadow? All right. Well, listen, I'm gonna. I'm I. I have a similar take on why I'm taking Friday night lights, which by the way, the greatest pilot, I think ever made the greatest one hour pilot out of anything forget about sports movies or shows also the fact that it was a drama on network television. I think only like lost really compares for me in terms of putting it together now you that would be on Netflix HBO. That would be that would not be on NBC, but here's what I would say. Parlay kid seventy-two odds, Kyle, Chandler, Connie Britton tower kitsch Jesse. Plemmons even Minka Kelly. Not not not easy to look at it and she dated Derrick jeeter. But these are people who no matter what they do. I'm watching their next series like we stuck with Kyle Chandler for a bloodline. I even watched Nashville Connie Britton. Tell. Which I love. I think this is this. This is a testament to the great acting and the great scripts. And I would go Friday night lights, seventy-two. I really enjoyed it Tate. Which one are you taking? Eastbound and down. No doubt about it. I I had Myrtle Beach pelicans tickets as a kid. So I went to all those games when I was younger back when they had Rafael for calls their starting shortstop back in the day, and that's where they, they filmed all this stuff with Guinea power. So Myrtle Beach pelicans and eastbound down Shelby North Carolina, it. It's a beautiful show. Have you ever have you ever watched the white shadow you? You might not have ever seen it right. Bill Simmons may me he Yeah, had to. yeah, you couldn't. You couldn't accept it was part of the day. To go watch all of watched white shadow. Yes. Varsity blues head.

"Bateman brother played by Kyle Chandler, who's kind of a cool older dude with a car. The kind of better than you are older brother character is in town sets up a murder mystery night, and he's either fake kidnapped or real kidnapped. They're not sure, and it's not clear what's real and what's pretend I was a little bit hesitant to watch this because I was a bit turned off by Jason Bateman in the New York Times, interview with the arrested development cast about Jeffrey tambor behavior on the arrest of developments that and things like that. So it was good. I took a little while took a break. I took a break. I still am not necessarily seeking him out, but I, I enjoyed it more. Or for Rachel mcadams than anybody else? What do you think Stephen? Yeah, to me the headline from this movie is that Rachel mcadams is so funny. I have always liked her. She has like an immediately likable face. I didn't necessarily think of her as a great comic actor and she is so so funny in this. She has a line reading Laden's movie. I wanna give away Lang late in the movie where she simply in forwards recites something that has happened, just says, just acknowledges that something has happened and I- yelped I laughed so hard. She's really, really great this. This is just a very good natured movie. I paused it about halfway through to grab drink water or something and was shocked that like fifty minutes had passed. I thought we were twenty minutes in its twisty and fun and funny. It's not major, but it's, but it's I laughed a lot. Yeah. Yeah, I don't want oversell it, but I went into this thing and was legit surprise. Because I was expecting a horrible bosses or office Christmas party. You know where the mode is raunchy with a sneer where film doesn't particularly like these characters. So it doesn't care if you like these characters. This film is completely behind Rachel mcadams and Jason Bateman. They want you to like them. They make them empathetic, and they also make them trivia nerds, which means that this film can be as loaded with pop culture, references as it is, and it doesn't feel like it's punch-up doesn't feel like a writer's room, kind of, let's throw in some jokes, some references all of that comes organically from these characters. Very smart thing is also incredibly well cast. I mean, when I reviewed it, I called it a cast of charming ringers because you know, you put Sharon Horgan and a movie, what am I going to do? I'm only human helpless, helpless helpless. There is a runner involving glass tabletops here as random works, so well, yeah, that's there's a bullet removal back alley bulletin ruble scene, which is more about their relations. Ships than what is actually going on. It's it's grounded in character. It is structured and it uses the comedy that blocker does to slightly of ironic deescalation where something chaotic is happening and in the foreground they're having a very mundane practical conversation or they're they're doing anti humor where they're kind of pushing a premise and then that interrogating that premise like we talked about that works for me so well. So between these two game, I'd is the one I would recommend in a heartbeat. Yeah. One of the things I also appreciated about game night is the easy way to go with a couple in a situation like this or the more I would say more cliche way to go is that the guy is super competitive, and the woman is kinda like, oh, Honey, why do you keep you know? Why do you keep involving our friends or learn to meet in the middle? We nobody. Nobody likes anymore because you know, it's a sort of have the more driven dude and the more kind of laid back wife who kind of tolerates it a very kind of home improvement, sort of dynamic between. Clean them, and that's not the dynamic between them all. I love the fact that they're kind of both really driven about games and about competition and that they both really see that as an important part of their relationship. I gotta tell you, I heard somebody saying Twitter recently, we used to say that Jesse Plemmons was the poor man's Matt, Damon. And now maybe we have to say, Matt, Damon is the people in this. He's been in Fargo. He's been in, you know, Friday night lights..

"Nba finals the first man trailer ryan gosling claire foy you have what's his face from friday night lights kyle chandler he's in the movie watts of recognizable faces this movie looks fucking incredible amazing it looks great i'm excited for it i don't wanna get too hype for it i don't wanna do that to myself jeff i know you're already talked yourself into best actor best director best picture yeah sweep at the oscars but who knows what we'll get into in the later part of the year but it's nice to see the trailer on this looked awesome she's l gosling back together again don't sleep on supporting i feel like there's a lot of room in this movie for a good best supporting actor role looked awesome i thought special effects are going to be way better than they were when apollo eleven came out i don't know i'm just excited all run in plus we saw a little glimpse of the apollo one fire in the trailer which is brutal and it looks like they're gonna show that to which they never really talk about like feel like in space culture in movies they only really ever talk about apollo eleven and like end of list like what other jimmy politics sorry but the tanks one is paul thirteen that's when i was meant before but like in apollo lor or space travel lauren movies that feel like as far as the actual missions go they only talk about author teen and apollo eleven and neck that's it there's a lot of other shit going on don't they they breed briefly touch an apollo wondering apollo thirteen because that's the only movie thing i can think of don't they show like very quickly and that's it i don't think they actually show the scene did they i don't remember i'm just i mean i'm agreeing i like it's one of those things you just don't see i guess this is a good example because i can't even remember but now i'm very excited for it somebody tweeted at us because we mentioned recently a story that came out were damian chazelle said this is.

"I mean he he's he's a great player who joined a great team and made them greater i think from day to day he doesn't get heat and the brian it's it's three hundred nine popular lebron gets heat because if you criticise kevin love you're not going to get that many clicks you're not but if you your critical of lebron not nurturing jr smith you know during the time out then people are going to tune in for that they want to know what you're saying about lebron and if you're negative with lebron even more clicks hey let me let me hear what you have to say what's your take on all of this yeah fritzy i'd rather be durant regard as nice as the accolades are and everything like that for me it just dealing with the criticism that would farm beat me up more than anyone saying anything praiseworthy and it just seems a lot less stressful it'd be durant and be great and not like have it all on you nothing like playoff hockey after consecutive home wins the capitals one win away from their first ever stanley cup in franchise history game five stanley cup final tomorrow eight eastern on in bc i we'll take a break here i had celebrity sighting over the weekend these celebrity when i knowledge the celebrity did not acknowledge me which was awkward but also i got a movie review for you the movie game night jason bateman and kyle chandler's in that whose my girlfriend that she doesn't know she's my girlfriend is in their h mcadams.

"Project i was not a fan of her and thawra thought issues miscast didn't have the type of chemistry needed but as an actress i think she's a fantastic astra actress her take on saturday night live a couple of weeks ago no i've just been see her commercials as of late money anyway the other one i know shannon is gonna love this one is jason bateman rachel mechanims and of course kyle chandler coach taylor in game no i saw the trailer for this one i was at another movie and i wanted it to be funny and i didn't it seemed like it fell at flat uh i don't know what he's think is probably the best hope that we can have is that they do have a they have a sense of what is right and what is wrong and they know that they're being cared for in that the people are helping them are good was it in the package that the six younger siblings have been split between to foster homes ye i don't love it let's take a listening because i think it i think it is but i'm not sure if we got to that point the loving these kids are and so appreciative some of them had never really in a toothbrush before things that we just take for granted that's the mayor so much should these kids the older and younger siblings have not yet reunited they communicate using skype in the short term the attorneys say the older children's simply want to go to the beach the mountains and the movies but longer term they want to attend college and pursue careers i just want you to understand just what special individuals they are they all have their own aspirations and their own interests and now they may have an opportunity to address those which was really exciting that's what that's pretty amazing couple had one of the good things to is that they have each other yet you've got to go a long way i if nothing else there's some strengthen the numbers perhaps that if there's thirteen of them than they can rely on the twelve others each of them can rely in twelve other people to help them through what is going to be and it just even the next two years is going to.

"Movies in all things streaming podcast thanks for joining us so you've been seeing some movies with the what she jail my fear anything that i need to go see in theaters this week uh there's a lot especially leading up to askar's all black panther but has yes nobody hair sending up and sorry in were busy were gobert who go steve i love centers voters hall i made out i keep hearing the crowds to die down i tell dealing with a come to my house social service projects now molly wave screwy y'all let's start with game night okay so this is the new khamis drink jason bateman enrichment adams to host these game nights and one night they're going to be doing this kind of murder mystery style with his brother played by couch handler when the actors that come over are not really actors and actually connect couch and the shark or so is this kind of race to for your weight is actually a game oral has a serious and i have to tell you it was far funnier and far smarter than i went in thinking it would be it's one of those movies like horrible bosses or the hangover or rough night where it starts off innocent an ask elites from bad to worse 'cause you're thinking okay like i've seen these moves a foreign it's a simple premise but it's quite clever so the thing about jason bateman is i i have learned just over the years and specifically watching him on arrested development he is a very f smart funny actor rights and he too from me i feel like he always plays of ride of the same character were he's kinda nononsense he those ticked off about something any place that again here not as much of a jerk as normally as but it from me was really the other actors he was kyle chandler it was jesse plemmons you know there's a variety of drut rachel maddow adams dramatic actors in it if illich make this movie work blue while because they're not mugging for the camera other and our aar character so business on hortatory for a movie like this but they're kind is playing the truth of the situation verses playing it as a cop killer than mixed funding.
